DNA is not a bodily fluid, but is genetic information that can be identified through a bodily fluid.
According to a scholarly journal article, in the Nineteenth century law enforcement agencies began to
collect, organize, analyze and store collections of DNA samples for forensic purposes (big brother).
DNA is extremely useful when nailing a suspect who it has been traced to. The biological evidence
left at a crime scene comes along with a great story that has yet to be told through bodily fluids such
as semen, blood or saliva found at the crime scene. These bodily fluids become key evidence to
solving a case.
There are numerous cases that have been solved based on the findings of DNA through multiple
bodily fluids left at a crime scene. The case that I had chose was E.K MacDaniel, Warden et al.
Petitioners v. Troy Brown, which was a case that dealt with semen taken from a rape kit. Although the
subject of rape could a be a touchy subject for most people, I find cases that deal with such a
horrendous act to be very interesting due to how the case is investigated and the measures it takes to

of Persuasion. Rank s model states that two major strategies are used to achieve the particular goal of
persuasion. These strategies are nicely set into two main schemas; the first method is to exaggerate an
aspect of something, known as intensify. While the second is to discredit it, which is referred to as
downplay. Al Franken, Jeffrey Snyder, Harlan Ellison, and George Will, have all written persuasive
articles about gun control. In reading all of the various articles on gun control by authors, I found

The least persuasive essay out of the four was Harlan Ellison s An Edge in My Voice. Ellison presents
his argument in a style that seems to me is more of a disgruntled rambling about both famous and
infamous people that die from gun shot, than an article about gun control. Ellison spends the first few
pages asking the reader if they cried when a certain person died; he begins with famous people such as
Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, and John Lennon, and then moves on to more obscure
examples. Instead of trying to build an argument, Ellison seemed to be more caught up with anger and
the notion of conspiracies. He does however try to use the intensify technique of Rank s model, to
persuade the reader of the horror of deaths caused by guns and their importance. Although Ellison did
try to persuade his audience in a different manor, I felt it was ineffective at best, due to his repetition
and exaggeration.
From these four articles written by Franken, Snyder, Ellison, and Will I personally found Will s piece
to be the most persuasive with Franken s not far behind. Will s approach was more formal while
Franken s style was more satirical, but I felt both authors were able to incorporate Rank s model and

Introduction
In the book The Net Government of the United States by Donald F. Kettl is an inspiring and at times
radical look at our government and its day to day attributes to our society. The ways in which the
government operates and the agencies it employs are examined through and through. The author
makes many arguments for their failures and against the system itself. This all leads to an opinion and
analysis of a way to fix the system. The power of the government to make decisions should be purely
of their own right and if the American people vote for these people then they are the leaders. There is
no way to accurately fix our system and the theories and conclusions drawn up by Kettl are intriguing,
but there is room for more calculation. The book presented multiple terms and theories that I could
beacon to. The four that presented me with the biggest ideological standpoints are: The Mildred
Paradox, The Mildred Corollary, The Vending Machine Model, and The Tectonic Plates. All of these
sparked an interest with me and helped me shaped my own opinion on this book and the ideas
presented by it.
The Mildred Paradox In the book Kettl defines the Mildred Paradox as the federal government is
doing a lot of service payment but not service provision. That is purely what the modern American
