Two Views of Slavery
Two Views of Slavery During the time prior to the twentieth century our world accepted slavery as a
normal part of life. Aphra Behn and Phillis Wheatley, both female authors born about 100 years apart,
had their own views of slavery and wrote poems and stories about the subject. These women were
physically different, Aphra was a Caucasian, and Phillis was an African American, and their lives were
rather different as well. Aphra was a spy and playwright, who lived the middle class life and Phillis,
was a slave who was taken from her homeland, brought to America, sold into slavery, then later freed.
I believe that both writers views were difficult to figure out, especially by just reading their works.
Phillis was born in Senegal/Gambia and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Behn 180)
Although her description makes Oroonoko seem rather stunning, it is a rather disrespectful description
to the native Negro people. Her description makes it sound like slaves are not equal and due to fact
that Oroonoko was a Prince, they did not put him in the same category as the other slaves and treated
him with decency and respect, almost as if it was a double standard. Her story gets even more
confusing when Oroonoko is kidnapped and sold into slavery himself by the same person that once
helped Oroonoko traffic slaves. After he was captured and enslaved, he is treated humanely by his
captor, which seems rather odd since most other slaves were treated very poorly. He is renamed
Caesar (slaves were renamed at that time), I assume for his strength and nobility. Once at the slave
camp, he is received more like a governor than a slave (Behn 209). He was even given land away from
the other slaves, as if to separate him and treat him more like a king. He then finds his love, Imoinda
living in a cottage with a cute little dog, which paints a very pretty picture, almost like a fairy tale,
which again, is in sharp contrast of most depictions of slave quarters during this time. Caesar has
elaborate feasts prepared in his honor, and it seems that there is, for lack of a better word, a party
atmosphere in the camp. He was also given more freedoms than the slaves he must live with; he is
even allowed to accompany the narrator of the story on a trip

Another benefit of having a multi payer contract is the statutory requirement covering 2 5 fiscal years
(10 USC 2306b). Some of the advantage of using the multi year contract for the company includes
higher profit potential, little control by the government, less financial audit and defined specification.
There are some disadvantages including risk assumption relates to financial and technical
assumptions. The government would have the advantages of risk shifts to contractor, simplifies budget
process, no responsibility of management and defined work specification. One of the disadvantage for
the government is the prices always contain some contingencies. DUI would use this fixed price
proposal because it would mean the contract expands more than one year and funded with annual
appropriation that would be a profit and growth for the

Essay on Women in Egypt
Women in the Hellenistic world
Women in the Hellenistic World Women s lives were improved and expanded in the Hellenistic age
more so than at any other time prior Greek history. Papyri from Egypt and Coele Syria have led to the
discovery of documents on marriage contracts, inscriptions of philanthropy, and the daily lives of the
women in that period. The Hellenistic woman changed in many ways. She became more educated,
more cultured, and she received domestic freedom and her new legal and occupational advancements
and a whole other myriad of news liberations. The ideal of the Classical obedient Greek wife was
turned upside down. She no longer had to be escorted to places outside her home and to issue legal
documents. She also could now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On an epitaph there is inscribed: This dust hides Archedice, daughter of Hippias, the most important
man in Greece in his day. But though her father, husband, brothers, and children were tyrants, her
mind was never carried away into arrogance. (Lefkowitz and Fant, 16) This inscription from the 5th
century BCE shows how some women were remembered for good deeds done and not just their duties
as homemakers. It also recognized the humane side of the Classical Greek woman. Philosophers and
philosophies were developed in the Hellenistic period that allowed women to join schools of thought
that expanded their freedom. Education became available for an array of Greek women in this time. A
little before the Hellenistic age came to be, the ideas of the loosening of social constructs for women
were taking place that led to the foundation of other schools of thought such as that of Epicureanism
and Cynicism. But these ideas came from a couple of the Classical philosophers. One example of this
is a discussion between Plato and Glaucon. The topic of interest to these men was that of the education
of women. The point that was made was that since there are only a couple of distinctions between men
and women, i.e. physical attributes and things like pot making and bread making although really only
social constructs that forced women to be engaged in these services day in and day out that would
have made them better then men at those

Factors Impacting Decision Making And Indecision
Factors Impacting Decision Making and Indecision
Amy Hines
University of Minnesota
Abstract
This is a discussion on the dynamics of decision making and indecision and their impacts. It offers an
overview in decision theory and its evolution through decision frameworks that have been analyzed
and developed to accommodate the ever changing individual and environment. This is a
comprehensive look at the underlying influences on the decision making process. It reaches the span
across different specialties from biological to personality. Within those areas it addresses a variety of
psychological processes, positive and negatives, through to career focused decision theories and
impacts on the individual. The important aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aspects that will be discussed in the following will assess the background of decision theory,
frameworks of decision and action, factors that influence and difficulties when faced with the
indecisiveness. Understanding the decision making frameworks, factors such as genetic makeup,
personality, environmental and emotional impacts that influence our decisions will provide insight on
counseling strategies, preventative or institutional development.
The process an individual goes through to make a decision is a complicated one. Deciphering the
system one needs to look at where the theories started and how they evolved. The expected utility
theory (EU theory) otherwise known as the Decision Theory that is essentially weighing the options
and determine the maximum value (compensatory) under the assumption an individual is a rational
being. The possibility of loss can be compensated by a potential large gain (Busemeyer 2015). It
evolved to add inclusions for rank dependent utility (RDU) to compensate for the violation of the
independence axiom or rule that originated in the EU theory. The independence axiom or contingency
is best understood as the third option that is presented independent to the first two, but does not
influence the order of preference that was established prior to the introduction of the third

History Of The Catatumbo Lightning
People say that lightning doesn t strike the same place twice. Well, it s practically untrue since there is
a place on earth that seems to be like a lightning rod that lures in all the lightning in one place. In
Venezuela, there is a particular spot on a lake that attracts a whopping 1.2 million lightning strikes a
year. It s hard to believe but it s about 28 lightning bolts every minute. This amount of energy is
enough to power more or less a hundred million light bulbs!
This spectacular phenomenon is called the Catatumbo Lightning . Originating from a mass of storm
clouds at a height of more than 1 kilometer above, lightning, strikes on this specific spot, typically
over a bog area where Catatumbo River empties into Lake Maracaibo in the ... Show more content on

There is one instance that lightning strikes ceased to occur from January to March 2010 that
temporarily raised fears of the phenomenon being extinguished permanently but was later found out
that it was drought that caused it. Humidity in a sense may have played a vital role in the occurrence
but scientists lately say that maybe it s the region s wind patterns and unique topography that
contribute to the special phenomenon. They say that when warm winds, trapped by the surrounding
mountains in Lake Maracaibo, collides with cool air coming down from the Andes mountains, they are
forced to condense, thus creating thunderclouds.
A lot of the (lightning) hot spots are tied to features in the terrain slopes of mountain ranges, curved
coastlines, combinations of those, Dr Daniel Cecil from the Global Hydrology and Climate Centre s
lightning team told the BBC.
Having irregularities like that in the terrain can help generate wind patterns and heating or cooling
patterns that would boost the likelihood of thunderstorms.
Considering the incredible amount of lightning strikes, one may wonder if those are some kind of
extra special lightning of sort but according to studies, those lightning bolts is the same with every
kind of lightning that flashes all around the

Pros And Cons Of Conscription Compulsory Military Service
The first European Institution, indeed the first international organisation of states, to formally
recognise conscientious objection to military service was the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council
of Europe.
In September 1965 Amnesty International raised with the Council the question of conscientious
objection in relation to Article 9 (freedom of conscience, thought and religion) of the European
Convention on Human Rights. The Council asked the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public
Law and International Law, Germany, to prepare a study of the situation in the member states, as a
result of which the Consultative Assembly on 26 January 1967 adopted Resolution 337, including the
following basic principles :
Persons liable to conscription for military service who, for reasons of conscience or profound
consviction, arising from religious, ethical, moral, humanitarian, philosophical or similar motives,
refuse to perform armed service shall enjoy a personal right to be released from the obligation to
perform such service. This right shall be regarded as deriving logically from the fundamental rights of
the individual in democratic Rule of Law states which are guaranteed in Article 9 of the European
Convention on Human Rights.
The concept of conscription compulsory military service by all able bodied males on behalf of the
state dates back to mediaeval obligations to monarchs and overlords, and then was formalised as a
permanent institution in the Revolutionary

U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East
For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the
forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two
World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the
response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention
of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration
allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy
was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within
the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat
lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11
attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular
cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons.
And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to
emerge. Is the U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East the cause of insurgency in the region along with
the eventual formation of militant groups such as ISIS? The policies carried out by the United States
consisted of establishing order and democracy in a state while also preventing any

Essay On House Of Representatives
Congress is made up of two chambers, one chamber being the House of Representatives and the other
chamber being the Senate. While both parts of Congress come together to vote on bills and to review
legislation they differ in many parts as well. The House of Representative was founded in 1789 by the
Constitution of the United States . (Charles Van Doren, senate, britannica.com). The House of

Casablanca
Casablanca, (Michael Curtiz, 1942), explores the ideals of love and sacrifice in the context of World
War Two. These themes are propagated by the selfless actions of Rick, a cynical night club owner, and
Ilsa, who must suppress her love for Rick in order to support her husband, Victor Laszlow, an anti
Nazi crusadist. The key scene in which Rick and Ilsa are reunited in the presence of Victor Laszlow
and Captain Louis Renault at Rick s Café emphasizes the tensions which arise from Rick and Ilsa s
obligations to love and sacrifice. Elements of mise en scène, particularly lighting, acting, costume,
make up, and staging, reveal the tensions between Rick and Ilsa, generate different sympathies for
each of the characters, and implicitly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captain Renault s intonations during the scene reveal suspicions concerning Rick and Ilsa. His
suggestive voice which raises questions about their relationship cultivates an awkward tension
between Rick and Laszlow. Two words in particular, extremely jealous, are delivered with high
intonations and connote suspicion. While the other characters politely try to address each other,
Renault bluntly confronts the mysterious situation between Rick and Ilsa. Renault s costume
reinforces theses scenic anxieties. Dressed in a decorated military uniform, he is a looming reminder
of the war. Renault s presence as an officer symbolizes the forces which have complicated the
situation between Rick, Ilsa, and Laszlow. This coincides with the awkward tensions his delivery
creates. Placement of a decorated officer as the central bearer of tension in the scene enforces the
audience s anxieties with the war and generates sympathy for the Allied cause. Rick, Ilsa, and
Laszlow, who all emerge as supporters for the Allied cause, are haunted by Renault and the conflict he
represents. The costume and make up of Rick and Victor Laszlow generates a comparison of their
different roles in the war and complicates the audience s decision to sympathize with either one of
them. Rick is attired in a bright white tuxedo and bowtie. His ensemble is neatly tailored to his body,
producing an air of sophistication and strength which separates him from his

Analysis Of Eric Erikson s Eight Stages Of Identity Theory
Introduction Identity or Self concept is something that evolves or matures right along with us; it
changes from physical concepts to more complex thoughts. (Damon Hart, 1988) Questions like Who
am I? and What is my Purpose? Have perplexed humanities greatest philosophers; the complexity of
these questions has even created a study of purpose; Teleology, the study of purpose. John Locke held
that personal identity is a matter of psychological continuity. He considered the self to be founded on
consciousness and not on the substance of either the soul or the body. (Nimbalkar, 2011) Eric Erikson

as individuals. Children who achieve and are praised for their achievements develop self confidence.
Children who are constantly criticized may develop feelings of inferiority. 5. Identity vs. Role
Confusion Erikson argued that teenagers undergo an identity crisis which they must establish.
Adolescents who struggle to find a purpose to their lives and a separate identity from their parents
may be unable to establish one. 6. Intimacy vs. Isolation After a young person has established his or
her identity, Erikson proposes that a person now is able to establish intimate relationships with others.
Failure to do so can result in long term feelings of isolation. 7. Generativity vs. Stagnation People who
can provide guidance to their children can feel a sense of purpose. Those who cannot resolute this
stage will stagnate and have a difficult time achieving the next stage. 8. Ego Integrity vs. Despair This
stage deals with reflection of the life a person has lived. If the previous stages have been met, then a
person can die content. Those who cannot resolve this stage due to the irresolution of previous ones
can fall into despair as their life seems to have had purpose.

Because the loan is secured by the property, you will get the lowest possible interest rates on loans.
This loan is the best way to get large amounts of money. But in unsecured loans, there is a high risk of
losing your assets provided as collateral, if you fail to make repayments on time. On the other hand,
unsecured gives you a way to get funds without possessions or property. The interest rate on
unsecured loans is slightly higher in comparison but you are free from the fear of losing your property.

Kingston s Speech In No Name Woman
It is not uncommon for individuals to follow the crowd and do something just because it is popular,
especially if it is a group of people who are close the individual. Often the ideals of the group do not
align with the individual s principles but he or she is too timid to voice their unpopular opinion. This
scenario is present during Kingston s childhood. Kingston does not agree with her family s treatment
of her aunt, however, Kingston abides by her family s rules of not speaking or acknowledging the aunt

community with her rapist.

First Muscles perform three types of contractions: concentric, eccentric, and isometric. When

Detroit Riots Essay
The Detroit riots occurred in the summer of 1967. The riot initially started because of race when poor
African Americans got kicked out of their houses. They started living on 12th street in Detroit. The
riot started there because African Americans were fed up with the way that they were being treated.
Many years prior to the riot there were already racial issues. The government made it hard for African
Americans to buy houses in the 1950s. During that time, white people were resisting African
Americans from moving into Detroit. They were gathering outside of houses owned by African
Americans until they would leave. According to Stanford, I was blissfully unaware of the pervasive
racism and resentment that was simmering in my city (28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This was showing even more racial issues even in the law enforcement which is supposed to protect
everyone no just people of their nationality. Riots were happening for the same issues in Cleveland,
Chicago, Omaha, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Since all these riots were occurring far away from
Detroit many Detroiters thought that their city would spare the riots. Sadly, they were wrong.
In July 23, 1967, the Detroit Police department busted a bar with a prominent number of African
Americans. They arrested every person in the bar. More and more people started to gather on 12th
street to watch the proceedings. That is when the rioting started. The crowd began to get more violent
as more people joined.
During the riot, the first fire started at a shoe store on 12th. Officers were starting to line up with
shields standing next to each other to block the rioting from spreading any further. There were
authorities having a meeting to try and stop the riot. They were trying to make peace patrols but the
police officers were blocking them from entering the area of the riot. The police officers were still
trying to take control of the situation but their officers were being injured and the rioters started to
outnumber them by a lot. As the police officers were giving up the firefighters were putting out fires.
There were new fires starting as fast as they were being put out.

Revolutions Of The French Revolution
Revolutions are often characterized under two dominant schools of thought, either the structural or the
cultural viewpoint. The structural approach favors causes that are of inherent forces in the system of
sovereign nations, whilst the cultural view favors individuals actions and ideas as rudimentary to
revolution. Skocpol and Trimberger s essay Revolutions: A Structural Analysis modernizes the ideas
of Karl Marx and reconciles them with the modern revolutions that have occurred to form a new
viewpoint; the structural school of thought. Consequentially, the French Revolution s long list of
factors and participant s carry differing levels of weight in either school of thought, yet the structural
approach is more pronounced in the summation of them all. As an extension of internal strife, the
Haitian Revolution also plays an important role in highlighting this structural overtone of the French
Revolution. The duality between the Haitian revolution s class of slaves and the Third Estate of the
French Revolution proper as well as the reactions they both had to international and internal strife are
best classified under the structural school of thought. This analysis begins with looking at the logical
first aspect of structural analysis; the status of the peasantry.
The aspect of structural theory that is most glaringly obvious in both that of the Third Estate and the
slave revolt of Saint Domingue is the status of the peasantry. As noted by Skocpol and Trimberger,

African Colonialism And Its Effects On Africa
In the 1800 s countries were in search for land to expand their country into, this happened to many
places including Africa. Colonialism was a time when countries took control of another land, which
they then governed through direct or indirect rule depending on the country. During this time, Africa
was most sought after due to its resources and its uninhabited land. Due to this, all colonial powers
scrambled to get their hands on a piece of Africa in order to expand their areas of rule. As a result of
the scramble for Africa the Berlin Conference was held. At this conference representatives from
fourteen countries came together to divide up Africa s land (Africans had no say in the matter,
however). With colonial powers now in control, not everyone was pleased seeing as the governing
country was only using them for natural resources and economic gain, which of course caused
resistance with people refusing to assimilate to the colonial power. Eventually, anti colonial
movements sprung up and they did whatever they could to try and regain their right to self rule. This
ultimately led to boycotts, strikes, the formation of unions and political parties just to regain
independence. Independence was a struggle that happened in many ways, such as violence and
agreement as shown in Swaziland s case. Swaziland has a particularly special story of colonialism,
due to the fact that they started out just asking for some support.
Swaziland s journey toward colonialism started in the

Informative Speech On Corn In Economics
John Morrow Communications 104 Informative Speech Outline 9/21/17 General Purpose: To inform
the class of the influence corn has on America s economics. 1. Main Point # 1 Corn s versatility,
global demand, and profit margin has led the over grown grass to emerge as America s number one
crop. The USDA evaluated corn s crop value to be $76.9 billion in 2011, making it a huge contributor
to the American economic system (National Corn Growers Association, 2017). Research gathered by
Duke University found that the U.S. produced 40% of the world s supply, 10% of which comes from
the small town of Constantine, Michigan while an additional 10% is produced from the surrounding
areas ( U.S and Employment, 2015; Motz, T., 2016). These spikes in corn s global demand have
created an opportunity for farmers and mid western field workers to become involved in the growing
and profitable industry. a. (Sub Point # 1) One major influence on the great increase in the U.S. s corn
production is its great economic benefit for our local and national economies through tax revenue and
employment. Corn is a subsidized crop in the U.S., meaning that American farmers are paid a
guaranteed price by the government, in addition to the profit of their yield, just for growing corn ( U.S
and Employment, 2015). This creates a safety net for American farmers to start farming corn leading
to the emersion of almost 2 million individual or family owned corn farms ( U.S and Employment,
2015). Not only does

Friendship. In Don t Give Up The Fight , Ava s best friend Lindsay tells Ava what to do about her
coach treating her different than the boys on the team. Making Sarah Cry , shows friendship because a
little boy who used to bully Sarah became friends with her from realizing how it felt to be teased and
how Sarah felt when he did those things to her. The texts presents the theme differently by influencing
others, Ava needs someone to influence her while Sarah is the one who influences the little boy.

Germ Theory Of Disease By Robert Koch And Louis Pasteur
Introduction
In the nineteenth century, two famous scientists Robert Koch and Louis Pasteur formally
demonstrated that microorganisms were the cause of many diseases. This proposition has become
known as Germ Theory of Disease . Not that this notion had never been touched before on the
contrary, there have been ancient mentions as old as 36 BC from a roman scholar, Marcus Terentius
Varro, that stated: certain minute creatures, which cannot be seen by the eyes, which float in the air
and enter the body through the mouth and nose, and there cause serious diseases . The concept of
Germ Theory of Disease suffered a major overturn in the twentieth century, when Metchnikoff showed
that microorganisms could also act as beneficial agents and health promoters. Was there then launched
the basis for what we now call probiotics. Thus, today we know we are, one way or the other, vastly
colonized by microorganisms. It is certainly clear that these microorganisms are present forming
heterogeneous and specific communities over large body surfaces. These colonization processes occur
primarily on skin, vagina and the gastrointestinal tract.
Even so, our body has a remarkable ability to protect itself against microbial invasions. Within the
human body resides a salient protection mechanism called immune system prepared to defend the
body against millions of bacteria, viruses, toxins and parasites. However, how does the immune
system enable the body to accept a vast amount of

Jane Eyre Wide Sargasso Sea Essay
Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea haunts the narrative of Jane Eyre through the construction and
recognition of the uncanny. Rhys incorporates the uncanny within her rewriting of Jane Eyre through
the utilization of narrative devices and ambiguous representations of physical spaces. By rewriting
Jane Eyre, Rhys attempts to construct a history that is not only detached from the dominant world
established in Jane Eyre, but grounded within the hauntological realm of the Caribbean. The
hauntological realm in which Rhys constructs, not only provides a degree of agency within a realm of
uncertainty, but establishes a degree of restraint too.
Megan Mericle argued that both Jane Eyre (1847) and Wide Sargasso Sea (1966) suggests the
liberation of their respective female protagonist from the oppressive conventions in which they find
themselves captive (Mericle 2012, 236). While Brontë s Jane Eyre asserts the independence of Jane
Eyre to have derived through her escape from restrictive patriarchal conventions, Rhys Wide Sargasso

Themes Of Gandhi In Hind Swaraj
Many of the themes explored by Gandhi in Hind Swaraj are directly or indirectly influenced by these
texts. I lay no claim to originality. They have been formed after reading several books. For instance,
Gandhi s explanation of colonialism is built upon Tolstoy s Letter to a Hindoo where he argues that it
is not the English who have enslaved the Indians, but the Indians who have enslaved themselves.
Similarly, an uncompromising critique of industrial culture, the hallmark of Gandhian thought, is
derived from Ruskin, Tolstoy and many other writers. Further, Maine s contention, that Indians were
inheritors of a civilization that had representative institutions but destroyed by the new utilitarian state,
was used by Gandhi to point out the superiority of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eastern (mostly Indian) sources include major ancient religious texts, not necessarily Hindu (like Gita,
Tulsidas Ramayana etc.)
On the surface, Hind Swaraj is primarily a critique of modern civilization, a civilization only in name .
Critical commentators like Bhikhu Parekh and Raghavan Iyer perceive it in this way. Hind Swaraj, as
Tridip Suhrud sees it, is philosophically located at a fleeting, tantalizing moment in human history
when, out of the two modes of life and thought that were present simultaneously modern and a
modern (a modern was not anti modern) it was still possible to follow the latter or, in other words, to
conceive life outside the realm of the modern universe. It is this latter mode of thought that forms the
bedrock of Hind Swaraj because Gandhi believed that modern civilization was built upon denial of a
fundamental possibility, that of knowing oneself. By shifting the locus of human endeavor to objects
of bodily comfort,

The Importance Of The Mozart Effect
We live in a world where it is important to have multiple skills and be considered smart.
Many people go out of their way to find programs and activities for themselves and their
offspring to learn new things to excel in their daily routines whether it be for their profession or
academics. Mozart Effect, Brain Gym and Jolly phonics are three of many different methods
used to stimulate the brain, promote learning and teach new skills.
Mozart Effect is a term created for studies that are believed by many that simply listening to
Mozart s music can make you smarter. This is because classical music and our spatial reasoning
pathways in our brain are extremely similar (The Telegraph).
A study done in 1988 by Gordon Shaw and Xiodan Leng showed that nerve cells were
connected to other groups of cells and created precise patterns and rhythms. These results were
turned into sounds and they noticed it resembled the tunes of several music styles (Lerch,
Donna). They joined with other researchers and conducted many studies with different types of
music and tapes and noticed the groups listening to Mozart s music would have a 9 point boost
in their IQ for 10 15 minutes (Lerch, Donna). Since this study, many others conducted their own
studies, some finding positive results and others arguing that it is a false theory. To this day The
Mozart Effect still remains up in the air as to whether it works or not.

Eastern religions and western religions have a vast amount of difference, but there is one common

Social Evil Of Mass Shootings
Mass shootings are one form of evil that has become an increasing part of our society since the 60s.
Although these shootings have happened many times over the years, people still wonder and debate
why they occur. Due to the large number of explanations people have come up with over the years,
there is no one particular cause as to why these mass shootings happen. Rather, it is a group of many
explanations which all contribute to the social evil of a mass shooting.
One of the causal explanations for a mass shooting is mental illness. Many of the recent mass
shootings that have occurred have partially been caused by the unstableness of the person s mind. For
example, James Holmes, the mass shooter who killed twelve people in a movie theater in Aurora,
Colorado was said to have a schizophrenic disorder. Although the disorder does not blur the lines
between right and wrong, it definitely has an impact as to why he was motivated to carry out this
shooting. This mental illness problem also occurred with Columbine shooter, Eric Harris. Harris had a
psychotic disorder and was even made to be a psychopath, according to the FBI report which was
released five years after the shooting. Both shooters had notebooks, in which they expressed their
severe hatred for the world and many humans around them. They also seemed to have an obsession
with fame to some extent and were even a bit insecure about their own self worth. These men had
psychotic disorders, which shifted their thinking and made them think in abnormal ways, causing
them to lose touch with reality. At the same time, mental illness may not be the cause of all mass
shootings. In fact, many people will stereotype mass shooters as being mentally ill even though that
may not be true. This is one fallacy which is seen today within our society after a mass shooting
occurs, and can even be characterized as scapegoating. According to the US Department of Health and
Human Services, only 3 5% of violent acts are carried out by mentally ill people. Also, the mentally ill
are more likely to be victimized and harassed rather than the other way around. In fact, even if a
shooter did have a mental problem, there is a very small chance that they would go to a therapist or

Fabrication Of Pcb And Pcb
FABRICATION OF PCB The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) provides the electrical interconnections
between various components and as well provides mechanical support to the components. The
components are soldered to the PCB. The quality of the soldering directly affects the reliability of the
circuit. The procedure for fabricating the PCB for any general project is described below. 7.1 PCB
MAKING Making of PCBs is as much as an art as a technique. The making of PCB essentially
involves two steps. Preparing the PCB drawing Fabricating the PCB itself from the drawing. 7.2 PCB
DRAWING Making of PCB drawing involves some preliminary considerations such as placement of
components, locating holes, deciding the diameters of various holes, the optimum area that each
component should occupy, the shape and size of pads for the components, track size and spacing, full
space utilization and prevention of overcrowding of components at a particular area etc. There is no
other way to arrive the conclusion than by trial and error. With these details the sketch of the PCB is
made. 7.3 PCB FABRICATION The fabrication of the PCB starts with transferring the PCB drawing
onto a copper clad sheet. For small number of PCBs, a direct photographic transfer of the PCB
drawing from a negative image of the drawing to a photo sensitized copper clad sheet is carried out.
The copper from the unexposed area is latter etched away. For large quantity production, screen

8). The idea of completely reconstructing the historical city centre to its previous splendor was
discarded by van Traa and a new spatial layout designed to separate functions and accommodate
traffic was developed (Groenendijk, 2015, p. 8). Nonetheless, the fire line of the German bombing is
still visible due to the difference between the old, nineteenth century buildings and the new, post war
construction (Groenendijk, 2015, p. 18). The Basic Plan for Reconstruction implemented an efficient
traffic plan on an orthogonal grid and the separation of functions was influenced by modernist urban
planning ides. However, the Basic Plan only governed urban planning in Rotterdam until the 1970s
when criticism of the emptiness, lack of housing, and lack of warmth was overwhelming
(Groenendijk, 2015, p. 19). For example, in the book De binnenstadsbeleving en Rotterdam (The
Inner City Experience and Rotterdam), R. Wenholt criticized the reconstruction of Rotterdam in the
late 1960s stating that the inner city failed at providing a vibrant, varied, convivial, pleasant, intimate

the outdated Basic Plan didn t directly influence its design, by creating a vibrant welcoming public

The And The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf
20th century Modernism searched for authenticity in an ever increasing industrialized world. Feeling
alienated from the previously established norms of the Victorian era, Modernists struggled with the
significance of the individual at a time of technological revolution. That which was true or real was no
longer straight forward; the role of the perception of reality pioneered a wave of artistic endeavors in
response to this rising uncertainty. In literature, rules of writing were actively defied, as Virginia
Woolf did in To the Lighthouse. The novel is written as a stream of consciousness, switching amongst
inner dialogues of the characters as narration, leaving the reader desperately grasping at straws in
order to draw out a plot without a clear sense of time or voice. The mosaic of chronicles seen in To the
Lighthouse emphasizes the isolation of the individual. No one is truly able to understand another, not
completely. These ideas of disillusionment and fragmentation are the backbone of Modernism, and
while some Modernists auspiciously embrace them, Woolf instead questions them. In Virginia Woolf s
To the Lighthouse, Woolf demonstrates three distinct perceptions of truth through her characters, Mrs.
Ramsay, Mr. Ramsay, and Lily Briscoe provoking thought on social tradition, while cherishing human
connection through common emotion.
Mrs. Ramsay dominates the novel from the first page. She acts as glue, physically bringing the
characters together under her roof and

Sappho s Poem, If Not, Winter
Sappho s fragments in, If Not, Winter, are composed of her reflections on the ardent emotions of love
and desire. Sappho continues to ask and search for love, but she becomes consumed with desire. Her
inability to control these emotions causes her to be caught in a battle between love and desire.
Throughout the text, Sappho uses eros to express her desire towards an individual. This causes a
conflict within the word eros because eros is defined as a fluid term in which, desire and love are
synonymous with one another. This implies that love and desire are essentially interchangeable,
however, Sappho does not treat them as such. This distinction becomes solidified by analyzing Sappho
s use of the gods in her poetry, where she correlates love with the goddess Aphrodite, and lust with the
god Eros. By observing Sappho s stylistic formation and diction within fragments 1, 16, and 31, the
distinction between these two opposing forces becomes clear. In this paper I will argue that Sappho
believes love involves an emotional connection that should be reciprocated and she also correlates
love to beauty. In contrast, Sappho classifies desire as egotistical lust, which fulfills a physical need,
where reciprocation is not required. Her distinctions between desire and love leads to a conflict in the
term eros and her internal feelings add complexity and depth to her work. It is important to analyze the
differences between Sappho being in a state of love versus Sappho being in a state

different. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is also a political union, but

Northern Ireland Assembly able to pass their own domestic legislation and a National Assembly for
Wales which can make secondary legislation. But all these were created by and are subordinate to the

This to some, is regarded as a strength, as the constitution can adapt to political developments and
changing circumstances and is, therefore, less likely to contain outdated rules and obligations.
Codified constitutions tend to be less flexible and contain special rigid procedures that must be
followed before any constitutional changes can be introduced. As a result to this, changes are usually
rare. The UK constitution has many sources to it, and how it was created in the first place. The Habeas
Corpus Act of 1679 gives some protection for the citizen against wrongful imprisonment. It enables
anyone who has been confined to demand to be brought before a court for a free trial. The strengths of
the UK constitution is that it is flexible and is easy to update if laws are changed. If it needs to change
in future then it can continue to evolve. It is not entrenched unlike the constitution of the United States
of America. The current system of an uncodified constitution provides a strong and effective
government. There is accountability and supreme authority. Compared to the US Constitution, the rule
of law in the UK is seen as all are equal under the law and the government must respect the laws when
making decisions and taking action. Such a rule is strength to the

  • 2. Two Views of Slavery Two Views of Slavery During the time prior to the twentieth century our world accepted slavery as a normal part of life. Aphra Behn and Phillis Wheatley, both female authors born about 100 years apart, had their own views of slavery and wrote poems and stories about the subject. These women were physically different, Aphra was a Caucasian, and Phillis was an African American, and their lives were rather different as well. Aphra was a spy and playwright, who lived the middle class life and Phillis, was a slave who was taken from her homeland, brought to America, sold into slavery, then later freed. I believe that both writers views were difficult to figure out, especially by just reading their works. Phillis was born in Senegal/Gambia and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Behn 180) Although her description makes Oroonoko seem rather stunning, it is a rather disrespectful description to the native Negro people. Her description makes it sound like slaves are not equal and due to fact that Oroonoko was a Prince, they did not put him in the same category as the other slaves and treated him with decency and respect, almost as if it was a double standard. Her story gets even more confusing when Oroonoko is kidnapped and sold into slavery himself by the same person that once helped Oroonoko traffic slaves. After he was captured and enslaved, he is treated humanely by his captor, which seems rather odd since most other slaves were treated very poorly. He is renamed Caesar (slaves were renamed at that time), I assume for his strength and nobility. Once at the slave camp, he is received more like a governor than a slave (Behn 209). He was even given land away from the other slaves, as if to separate him and treat him more like a king. He then finds his love, Imoinda living in a cottage with a cute little dog, which paints a very pretty picture, almost like a fairy tale, which again, is in sharp contrast of most depictions of slave quarters during this time. Caesar has elaborate feasts prepared in his honor, and it seems that there is, for lack of a better word, a party atmosphere in the camp. He was also given more freedoms than the slaves he must live with; he is even allowed to accompany the narrator of the story on a trip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another benefit of having a multi payer contract is the statutory requirement covering 2 5 fiscal years (10 USC 2306b). Some of the advantage of using the multi year contract for the company includes higher profit potential, little control by the government, less financial audit and defined specification. There are some disadvantages including risk assumption relates to financial and technical assumptions. The government would have the advantages of risk shifts to contractor, simplifies budget process, no responsibility of management and defined work specification. One of the disadvantage for the government is the prices always contain some contingencies. DUI would use this fixed price proposal because it would mean the contract expands more than one year and funded with annual appropriation that would be a profit and growth for the ... • 4. Essay on Women in Egypt Women in the Hellenistic world Women in the Hellenistic World Women s lives were improved and expanded in the Hellenistic age more so than at any other time prior Greek history. Papyri from Egypt and Coele Syria have led to the discovery of documents on marriage contracts, inscriptions of philanthropy, and the daily lives of the women in that period. The Hellenistic woman changed in many ways. She became more educated, more cultured, and she received domestic freedom and her new legal and occupational advancements and a whole other myriad of news liberations. The ideal of the Classical obedient Greek wife was turned upside down. She no longer had to be escorted to places outside her home and to issue legal documents. She also could now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On an epitaph there is inscribed: This dust hides Archedice, daughter of Hippias, the most important man in Greece in his day. But though her father, husband, brothers, and children were tyrants, her mind was never carried away into arrogance. (Lefkowitz and Fant, 16) This inscription from the 5th century BCE shows how some women were remembered for good deeds done and not just their duties as homemakers. It also recognized the humane side of the Classical Greek woman. Philosophers and philosophies were developed in the Hellenistic period that allowed women to join schools of thought that expanded their freedom. Education became available for an array of Greek women in this time. A little before the Hellenistic age came to be, the ideas of the loosening of social constructs for women were taking place that led to the foundation of other schools of thought such as that of Epicureanism and Cynicism. But these ideas came from a couple of the Classical philosophers. One example of this is a discussion between Plato and Glaucon. The topic of interest to these men was that of the education of women. The point that was made was that since there are only a couple of distinctions between men and women, i.e. physical attributes and things like pot making and bread making although really only social constructs that forced women to be engaged in these services day in and day out that would have made them better then men at those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aspects that will be discussed in the following will assess the background of decision theory, frameworks of decision and action, factors that influence and difficulties when faced with the indecisiveness. Understanding the decision making frameworks, factors such as genetic makeup, personality, environmental and emotional impacts that influence our decisions will provide insight on counseling strategies, preventative or institutional development. The process an individual goes through to make a decision is a complicated one. Deciphering the system one needs to look at where the theories started and how they evolved. The expected utility theory (EU theory) otherwise known as the Decision Theory that is essentially weighing the options and determine the maximum value (compensatory) under the assumption an individual is a rational being. The possibility of loss can be compensated by a potential large gain (Busemeyer 2015). It evolved to add inclusions for rank dependent utility (RDU) to compensate for the violation of the independence axiom or rule that originated in the EU theory. The independence axiom or contingency is best understood as the third option that is presented independent to the first two, but does not influence the order of preference that was established prior to the introduction of the third ... • 6. History Of The Catatumbo Lightning People say that lightning doesn t strike the same place twice. Well, it s practically untrue since there is a place on earth that seems to be like a lightning rod that lures in all the lightning in one place. In Venezuela, there is a particular spot on a lake that attracts a whopping 1.2 million lightning strikes a year. It s hard to believe but it s about 28 lightning bolts every minute. This amount of energy is enough to power more or less a hundred million light bulbs! This spectacular phenomenon is called the Catatumbo Lightning . Originating from a mass of storm clouds at a height of more than 1 kilometer above, lightning, strikes on this specific spot, typically over a bog area where Catatumbo River empties into Lake Maracaibo in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is one instance that lightning strikes ceased to occur from January to March 2010 that temporarily raised fears of the phenomenon being extinguished permanently but was later found out that it was drought that caused it. Humidity in a sense may have played a vital role in the occurrence but scientists lately say that maybe it s the region s wind patterns and unique topography that contribute to the special phenomenon. They say that when warm winds, trapped by the surrounding mountains in Lake Maracaibo, collides with cool air coming down from the Andes mountains, they are forced to condense, thus creating thunderclouds. A lot of the (lightning) hot spots are tied to features in the terrain slopes of mountain ranges, curved coastlines, combinations of those, Dr Daniel Cecil from the Global Hydrology and Climate Centre s lightning team told the BBC. Having irregularities like that in the terrain can help generate wind patterns and heating or cooling patterns that would boost the likelihood of thunderstorms. • 7. Pros And Cons Of Conscription Compulsory Military Service The first European Institution, indeed the first international organisation of states, to formally recognise conscientious objection to military service was the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. In September 1965 Amnesty International raised with the Council the question of conscientious objection in relation to Article 9 (freedom of conscience, thought and religion) of the European Convention on Human Rights. The Council asked the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, Germany, to prepare a study of the situation in the member states, as a result of which the Consultative Assembly on 26 January 1967 adopted Resolution 337, including the following basic principles : Persons liable to conscription for military service who, for reasons of conscience or profound consviction, arising from religious, ethical, moral, humanitarian, philosophical or similar motives, refuse to perform armed service shall enjoy a personal right to be released from the obligation to perform such service. This right shall be regarded as deriving logically from the fundamental rights of the individual in democratic Rule of Law states which are guaranteed in Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. • 8. U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11 attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons. And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to emerge. Is the U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East the cause of insurgency in the region along with the eventual formation of militant groups such as ISIS? These themes are propagated by the selfless actions of Rick, a cynical night club owner, and Ilsa, who must suppress her love for Rick in order to support her husband, Victor Laszlow, an anti Nazi crusadist. The key scene in which Rick and Ilsa are reunited in the presence of Victor Laszlow and Captain Louis Renault at Rick s Café emphasizes the tensions which arise from Rick and Ilsa s obligations to love and sacrifice. His suggestive voice which raises questions about their relationship cultivates an awkward tension between Rick and Laszlow. Two words in particular, extremely jealous, are delivered with high intonations and connote suspicion. While the other characters politely try to address each other, Renault bluntly confronts the mysterious situation between Rick and Ilsa. Renault s costume reinforces theses scenic anxieties. Dressed in a decorated military uniform, he is a looming reminder of the war. Renault s presence as an officer symbolizes the forces which have complicated the situation between Rick, Ilsa, and Laszlow. This coincides with the awkward tensions his delivery creates. Placement of a decorated officer as the central bearer of tension in the scene enforces the audience s anxieties with the war and generates sympathy for the Allied cause. Rick, Ilsa, and Laszlow, who all emerge as supporters for the Allied cause, are haunted by Renault and the conflict he represents. The costume and make up of Rick and Victor Laszlow generates a comparison of their different roles in the war and complicates the audience s decision to sympathize with either one of them. The structural approach favors causes that are of inherent forces in the system of sovereign nations, whilst the cultural view favors individuals actions and ideas as rudimentary to revolution. Skocpol and Trimberger s essay Revolutions: A Structural Analysis modernizes the ideas of Karl Marx and reconciles them with the modern revolutions that have occurred to form a new viewpoint; the structural school of thought. Consequentially, the French Revolution s long list of factors and participant s carry differing levels of weight in either school of thought, yet the structural approach is more pronounced in the summation of them all. The duality between the Haitian revolution s class of slaves and the Third Estate of the French Revolution proper as well as the reactions they both had to international and internal strife are best classified under the structural school of thought. Colonialism was a time when countries took control of another land, which they then governed through direct or indirect rule depending on the country. During this time, Africa was most sought after due to its resources and its uninhabited land. Due to this, all colonial powers scrambled to get their hands on a piece of Africa in order to expand their areas of rule. As a result of the scramble for Africa the Berlin Conference was held. At this conference representatives from fourteen countries came together to divide up Africa s land (Africans had no say in the matter, however). With colonial powers now in control, not everyone was pleased seeing as the governing country was only using them for natural resources and economic gain, which of course caused resistance with people refusing to assimilate to the colonial power. Eventually, anti colonial movements sprung up and they did whatever they could to try and regain their right to self rule. This ultimately led to boycotts, strikes, the formation of unions and political parties just to regain independence. • 25. Informative Speech On Corn In Economics John Morrow Communications 104 Informative Speech Outline 9/21/17 General Purpose: To inform the class of the influence corn has on America s economics. 1. Main Point # 1 Corn s versatility, global demand, and profit margin has led the over grown grass to emerge as America s number one crop. The USDA evaluated corn s crop value to be $76.9 billion in 2011, making it a huge contributor to the American economic system (National Corn Growers Association, 2017). Research gathered by Duke University found that the U.S. produced 40% of the world s supply, 10% of which comes from the small town of Constantine, Michigan while an additional 10% is produced from the surrounding areas ( U.S and Employment, 2015; Motz, T., 2016). These spikes in corn s global demand have created an opportunity for farmers and mid western field workers to become involved in the growing and profitable industry. a. (Sub Point # 1) One major influence on the great increase in the U.S. s corn production is its great economic benefit for our local and national economies through tax revenue and employment. Corn is a subsidized crop in the U.S., meaning that American farmers are paid a guaranteed price by the government, in addition to the profit of their yield, just for growing corn ( U.S and Employment, 2015). Germ Theory Of Disease By Robert Koch And Louis Pasteur Introduction In the nineteenth century, two famous scientists Robert Koch and Louis Pasteur formally demonstrated that microorganisms were the cause of many diseases. This proposition has become known as Germ Theory of Disease . Not that this notion had never been touched before on the contrary, there have been ancient mentions as old as 36 BC from a roman scholar, Marcus Terentius Varro, that stated: certain minute creatures, which cannot be seen by the eyes, which float in the air and enter the body through the mouth and nose, and there cause serious diseases . The concept of Germ Theory of Disease suffered a major overturn in the twentieth century, when Metchnikoff showed that microorganisms could also act as beneficial agents and health promoters. Was there then launched the basis for what we now call probiotics. Thus, today we know we are, one way or the other, vastly colonized by microorganisms. It is certainly clear that these microorganisms are present forming heterogeneous and specific communities over large body surfaces. These colonization processes occur primarily on skin, vagina and the gastrointestinal tract. Even so, our body has a remarkable ability to protect itself against microbial invasions. Within the human body resides a salient protection mechanism called immune system prepared to defend the body against millions of bacteria, viruses, toxins and parasites. However, how does the immune system enable the body to accept a vast amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Jane Eyre Wide Sargasso Sea Essay Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea haunts the narrative of Jane Eyre through the construction and recognition of the uncanny. Rhys incorporates the uncanny within her rewriting of Jane Eyre through the utilization of narrative devices and ambiguous representations of physical spaces. By rewriting Jane Eyre, Rhys attempts to construct a history that is not only detached from the dominant world established in Jane Eyre, but grounded within the hauntological realm of the Caribbean. The hauntological realm in which Rhys constructs, not only provides a degree of agency within a realm of uncertainty, but establishes a degree of restraint too. Megan Mericle argued that both Jane Eyre (1847) and Wide Sargasso Sea (1966) suggests the liberation of their respective female protagonist from the oppressive conventions in which they find themselves captive (Mericle 2012, 236). While Brontë s Jane Eyre asserts the independence of Jane Eyre to have derived through her escape from restrictive patriarchal conventions, Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea follows an alternative narrative where it is through repression that Antoinette ... • 29. Themes Of Gandhi In Hind Swaraj Many of the themes explored by Gandhi in Hind Swaraj are directly or indirectly influenced by these texts. I lay no claim to originality. They have been formed after reading several books. For instance, Gandhi s explanation of colonialism is built upon Tolstoy s Letter to a Hindoo where he argues that it is not the English who have enslaved the Indians, but the Indians who have enslaved themselves. Similarly, an uncompromising critique of industrial culture, the hallmark of Gandhian thought, is derived from Ruskin, Tolstoy and many other writers. Further, Maine s contention, that Indians were inheritors of a civilization that had representative institutions but destroyed by the new utilitarian state, was used by Gandhi to point out the superiority of ... Eastern (mostly Indian) sources include major ancient religious texts, not necessarily Hindu (like Gita, Tulsidas Ramayana etc.) On the surface, Hind Swaraj is primarily a critique of modern civilization, a civilization only in name . Critical commentators like Bhikhu Parekh and Raghavan Iyer perceive it in this way. Hind Swaraj, as Tridip Suhrud sees it, is philosophically located at a fleeting, tantalizing moment in human history when, out of the two modes of life and thought that were present simultaneously modern and a modern (a modern was not anti modern) it was still possible to follow the latter or, in other words, to conceive life outside the realm of the modern universe. It is this latter mode of thought that forms the bedrock of Hind Swaraj because Gandhi believed that modern civilization was built upon denial of a fundamental possibility, that of knowing oneself. Many people go out of their way to find programs and activities for themselves and their offspring to learn new things to excel in their daily routines whether it be for their profession or academics. Mozart Effect, Brain Gym and Jolly phonics are three of many different methods used to stimulate the brain, promote learning and teach new skills. Mozart Effect is a term created for studies that are believed by many that simply listening to Mozart s music can make you smarter. This is because classical music and our spatial reasoning pathways in our brain are extremely similar (The Telegraph). A study done in 1988 by Gordon Shaw and Xiodan Leng showed that nerve cells were connected to other groups of cells and created precise patterns and rhythms. These results were turned into sounds and they noticed it resembled the tunes of several music styles (Lerch, Donna). They joined with other researchers and conducted many studies with different types of music and tapes and noticed the groups listening to Mozart s music would have a 9 point boost in their IQ for 10 15 minutes (Lerch, Donna). Since this study, many others conducted their own studies, some finding positive results and others arguing that it is a false theory. To this day The Mozart Effect still remains up in the air as to whether it works or not. To me, this learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Social Evil Of Mass Shootings Mass shootings are one form of evil that has become an increasing part of our society since the 60s. Although these shootings have happened many times over the years, people still wonder and debate why they occur. Due to the large number of explanations people have come up with over the years, there is no one particular cause as to why these mass shootings happen. Rather, it is a group of many explanations which all contribute to the social evil of a mass shooting. One of the causal explanations for a mass shooting is mental illness. Many of the recent mass shootings that have occurred have partially been caused by the unstableness of the person s mind. For example, James Holmes, the mass shooter who killed twelve people in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado was said to have a schizophrenic disorder. Although the disorder does not blur the lines between right and wrong, it definitely has an impact as to why he was motivated to carry out this shooting. This mental illness problem also occurred with Columbine shooter, Eric Harris. Harris had a psychotic disorder and was even made to be a psychopath, according to the FBI report which was released five years after the shooting. Both shooters had notebooks, in which they expressed their severe hatred for the world and many humans around them. They also seemed to have an obsession with fame to some extent and were even a bit insecure about their own self worth. These men had psychotic disorders, which shifted their thinking and made them think in abnormal ways, causing them to lose touch with reality. At the same time, mental illness may not be the cause of all mass shootings. In fact, many people will stereotype mass shooters as being mentally ill even though that may not be true. This is one fallacy which is seen today within our society after a mass shooting occurs, and can even be characterized as scapegoating. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, only 3 5% of violent acts are carried out by mentally ill people. Also, the mentally ill are more likely to be victimized and harassed rather than the other way around. In fact, even if a shooter did have a mental problem, there is a very small chance that they would go to a therapist or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fabrication Of Pcb And Pcb FABRICATION OF PCB The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) provides the electrical interconnections between various components and as well provides mechanical support to the components. The components are soldered to the PCB. The quality of the soldering directly affects the reliability of the circuit. The procedure for fabricating the PCB for any general project is described below. 7.1 PCB MAKING Making of PCBs is as much as an art as a technique. The making of PCB essentially involves two steps. Preparing the PCB drawing Fabricating the PCB itself from the drawing. 7.2 PCB DRAWING Making of PCB drawing involves some preliminary considerations such as placement of components, locating holes, deciding the diameters of various holes, the optimum area that each component should occupy, the shape and size of pads for the components, track size and spacing, full space utilization and prevention of overcrowding of components at a particular area etc. There is no other way to arrive the conclusion than by trial and error. With these details the sketch of the PCB is made. 7.3 PCB FABRICATION The fabrication of the PCB starts with transferring the PCB drawing onto a copper clad sheet. For small number of PCBs, a direct photographic transfer of the PCB drawing from a negative image of the drawing to a photo sensitized copper clad sheet is carried out. The copper from the unexposed area is latter etched away. For large quantity production, screen printing method is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of completely reconstructing the historical city centre to its previous splendor was discarded by van Traa and a new spatial layout designed to separate functions and accommodate traffic was developed (Groenendijk, 2015, p. 8). Nonetheless, the fire line of the German bombing is still visible due to the difference between the old, nineteenth century buildings and the new, post war construction (Groenendijk, 2015, p. 18). The Basic Plan for Reconstruction implemented an efficient traffic plan on an orthogonal grid and the separation of functions was influenced by modernist urban planning ides. However, the Basic Plan only governed urban planning in Rotterdam until the 1970s when criticism of the emptiness, lack of housing, and lack of warmth was overwhelming (Groenendijk, 2015, p. 19). For example, in the book De binnenstadsbeleving en Rotterdam (The Inner City Experience and Rotterdam), R. Wenholt criticized the reconstruction of Rotterdam in the late 1960s stating that the inner city failed at providing a vibrant, varied, convivial, pleasant, intimate city (Meyer, 1999, p.328). • 37. The And The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf 20th century Modernism searched for authenticity in an ever increasing industrialized world. Feeling alienated from the previously established norms of the Victorian era, Modernists struggled with the significance of the individual at a time of technological revolution. That which was true or real was no longer straight forward; the role of the perception of reality pioneered a wave of artistic endeavors in response to this rising uncertainty. In literature, rules of writing were actively defied, as Virginia Woolf did in To the Lighthouse. The novel is written as a stream of consciousness, switching amongst inner dialogues of the characters as narration, leaving the reader desperately grasping at straws in order to draw out a plot without a clear sense of time or voice. The mosaic of chronicles seen in To the Lighthouse emphasizes the isolation of the individual. No one is truly able to understand another, not completely. These ideas of disillusionment and fragmentation are the backbone of Modernism, and while some Modernists auspiciously embrace them, Woolf instead questions them. In Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse, Woolf demonstrates three distinct perceptions of truth through her characters, Mrs. Ramsay, Mr. Ramsay, and Lily Briscoe provoking thought on social tradition, while cherishing human connection through common emotion. Mrs. Ramsay dominates the novel from the first page. She acts as glue, physically bringing the characters together under her roof and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Sappho s Poem, If Not, Winter Sappho s fragments in, If Not, Winter, are composed of her reflections on the ardent emotions of love and desire. Sappho continues to ask and search for love, but she becomes consumed with desire. Her inability to control these emotions causes her to be caught in a battle between love and desire. Throughout the text, Sappho uses eros to express her desire towards an individual. This causes a conflict within the word eros because eros is defined as a fluid term in which, desire and love are synonymous with one another. This implies that love and desire are essentially interchangeable, however, Sappho does not treat them as such. This distinction becomes solidified by analyzing Sappho s use of the gods in her poetry, where she correlates love with the goddess Aphrodite, and lust with the god Eros. By observing Sappho s stylistic formation and diction within fragments 1, 16, and 31, the distinction between these two opposing forces becomes clear. In this paper I will argue that Sappho believes love involves an emotional connection that should be reciprocated and she also correlates love to beauty. In contrast, Sappho classifies desire as egotistical lust, which fulfills a physical need, where reciprocation is not required. Her distinctions between desire and love leads to a conflict in the term eros and her internal feelings add complexity and depth to her work. It is important to analyze the differences between Sappho being in a state of love versus Sappho being in a state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is also a political union, but based on the sovereignty of the national Parliament. The UK now has a Scottish Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly able to pass their own domestic legislation and a National Assembly for Wales which can make secondary legislation. This to some, is regarded as a strength, as the constitution can adapt to political developments and changing circumstances and is, therefore, less likely to contain outdated rules and obligations. Codified constitutions tend to be less flexible and contain special rigid procedures that must be followed before any constitutional changes can be introduced. As a result to this, changes are usually rare. The UK constitution has many sources to it, and how it was created in the first place. The Habeas Corpus Act of 1679 gives some protection for the citizen against wrongful imprisonment. It enables anyone who has been confined to demand to be brought before a court for a free trial. The strengths of the UK constitution is that it is flexible and is easy to update if laws are changed. If it needs to change in future then it can continue to evolve. It is not entrenched unlike the constitution of the United States of America. The current system of an uncodified constitution provides a strong and effective government.
