Leningrad Cemetery Winter Of 1941 Analysis
Sharon Olds, in her poem Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 , portrays the dreary and dire
effects of war. As one of the most destructive and longest sieges of history had just begun, the
countless bodies scarred the citizens of Leningrad. In order to convey horror, hopelessness, and
death, Olds utilizes simile extensively, corrupting images with typically hopeful connotation. As
corpses permeate the graveyard, the ability sustain life itself comes into question; Olds warps the
significance of the tree to argue that life is no longer sustainable. Due to the lack of enough
wood for coffins, the disposal of corpses exemplify desperation and require inhumane treatment.
The sheer number of corpses necessitates that many are Bound with rope like the tree s ball of

Unfortunately, the ropes were not the only way that the bodies were dealt with, for there were
others wound in sheets, / Their pale, gauze, tapered shapes / Stiff as cocoons (8 10) . The idea of
the cocoon is magical and hopeful with a romantic root in nature. The metamorphosis of a
grounded caterpillar to a free butterfly parallels that of the hope for the spirits of the dead to
move on, released from their earthly vessels. The hopes for the dead are only met with more
suffering, for they are With no sign of peace, wanting to come back / ... / Even to the icy winter,
and the siege. (16 18). Assuming that their noble deaths in the war keep the souls of the dead
away from hell at the very least, Olds foresees only pain in the afterlife. The souls do not gain
freedom or experience any metamorphosis. Instead, they are trapped in a world of pain far worse
than the pain of living, exemplified through their will to come

Technology s Impact On Transportation Essay
Technology have greatly impacted the transportation field and in effect have completely changed
the way the human race travel, the way goods are shipped and the economy of every developed
nation. Technology in transportation is not something new, technology have continually had in
impact on travel and transportation. This impact can be see ranging from the Viking Longships ,
which were very fast for their times. These Longships facilitated the Vikings expansion and
helped them conquer new lands that were hundreds of miles away from their homes (Vikings:
Vikings at sea). The railroads in the 1800 s also were a new form of technology, and this
technology provided an opportunity for individuals to move farther west to new lands and new
opportunities that they never thought would have existed. In our day and age, technology will
continue to have a massive impact on transportation. Knowing that technology will continue to
have an impact on transportation, this paper will analyze the technological opportunities in the
transportation field and the new opportunities that they will provide in the near future. First, this
paper will examine a new form of rail transportation called Hyperloop. This paper will discuss
how Hyperloop affects product manufacturers and everyday individuals in their daily lives.
Second, this paper will look at a new phase that the Tesla Company is implementing, a phase they
title Master Plan, Part Deux , we will discuss how this new phase might affect the

How Does Rebecca Define Clarity
Clarity Although clarity has many meanings and is most often used as being clear and concise,
it can be much more than that. The person who declares one definition is not always right.
Whether it s what he said, she said, or they said, it does not mean they are exactly right or wrong.
Clarity could be a messy word because it s broad. Rebecca might say that it holds a feeling or
moment and others could say it means to be clear about what you are saying. Many people could
have a different outlook. Rebecca s way of defining clarity is good because she allows more than
a definition of the word but a definition of the idea. Many people go through hard times in life and
in the end we all learn a lesson of some sort, whether that lesson be about

No Jobs In America Today
background This paper is a final essay assignment for SOC 3421W which is Sociology of Work:
Good Jobs, Bad Jobs, No Jobs? . This essay is about No Jobs in America today, and the effects of
a jobless situation on individuals, and my policy recommendations for increasing good jobs,
reducing bad jobs, and eliminating no jobs will be described in this essay. This sample is the
first part of the essay which includes introduction and some parts about the term, causes and
consequences. I have some concerns about grammar in this essay. Especially, I would like to
check whether I have used proper tenses and a/an and the in sentences correctly or not. No Job in
America Today As the economy and technology in today have been developed constantly, the
system of job markets has increased and diversified in various ways. However, even though the
jobs are subdivided more and more, many people still hardly find the jobs which are perfectly fitted
to (fitted to? Or fitted with?) each individual and unemployment situations are occurred in many
different circumstances. Although countless jobs and people who have jobs exist in modern
society, most workers experience frequent unemployment at some point or between jobs during
their working lives. According to Hudson (2002), the unemployment rate in the United States has
stayed at relatively high levels during much of the period since the end of the Second World War.
In this essay, the effects of a jobless situation on individuals which

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age,
Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring
awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123).
Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men
and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first
footnote referenced in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary
piece in reaction to a report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government
investigation that had uncovered the mistreatment of child workers; and to... Show more content on

Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a
meadow (57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference
between a cowslip and a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the
mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were
working in factories or mining for coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of
play time for these employed children was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her
poem; whereas, other problems that these children encountered included exhaustion and facing
hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how tired the children were and how little energy
they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it were merely / To drop down in them and
sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they experienced and its consequences for the
children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall upon our faces, trying to go (69 70).
She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the adolescents experienced each
day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we drag our burden tiring (73).
The adolescent workers were subjected to load noises that made their head ache, our heads, with

Criticism Of The Dead By Margot Norris
Margot Norris criticism is about the silencing of women, I used this one because it helps with
that point of view I want to back up in my own essay as well. Norris argues that the silencing of
women in The Dead proves to make the feminist criticism stronger. She describes in depth the
characters that are silenced and the ways that they are silenced and her view of on the feminist
end of things. She supports that these women are silenced and makes a strong argument about
it. But, overall, she says we read the novel as we choose to. Some readers may see it as different
and some may not. I used two other dissertations as sources because I wanted to get someone
from the educational point of view, a criticism of someone that is similar to mine and talking
about this subject as well. I spared them equally and only used parts of them so far in this
particular prospectus, but I chose Badcock s essay because she explains how women were
treated in Joyce s lifetime. How the background of what I m trying to convey is important. How
Joyce saw women and how that was bled into Gabriel s character. Beckham has the view of
masculinity and how Gabriel s ego is constantly being deflated. The argument that can be made is,
he attempts to use these female characters to boost that ego, yet it doesn t work that way. The
criticism is essentially for Gabriel s ever changing masculinity, but it can be used as an opposing
or for point of view, as well. I want to focus on the masculinity factor and

The Detrimental Effects of Soda and Cola
The Detrimental Effects of Soda
What is your favorite soda? Coke? Do you know what is in soda? Cutting down on soda can lead to
a healthy and better lifestyle. Studies show that soda, though it tastes good, has many negative
effects that outweigh the positive effects. Soda, especially diet, is detrimental to the health of your
body.
My cousin s teacher did an experiment with coke. She put a tooth in coke and left it for at least a
week. The next time they checked the tooth had disintegrated. The coke had eaten away at the
tooth. If this can happen to a tooth imagine what it does to your body.

significant nutritional value? And what happens if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coke s new C2 and Pepsi Edge hope to solve this problem without compromising taste but there
are still many other ingredients in C2 and Edge that can lead to obesity. Tooth Decay is another
problem affecting the US. Both sugar and phosphoric acid from sodas contribute to it and the soft
drink industry admits to it. But the NSDA (National Soft Drink Association) also says that soft
drinks aren t the sole cause of tooth decay.
A lot of sugary foods, from fruit juices to candy and even raisins and other dried fruit, have what
dentists refer to as cariogenic properties, which means they can cause tooth decay. Though other
foods have cariogenic properties soda definitely has the largest percentage of these properties.
A federally funded study of nearly 3,200 Americans 9 to 29 years old conducted between 1971
and 1974 showed a direct link between tooth decay and soft drinks. Numerous other studies have
shown the same link throughout the world, from Sweden to Iraq. Soda has become the number
one choice beverage in the US. The younger you start drinking soda daily the more likely you are
going to develop osteoporosis, tooth decay, and a myriad of other ailments when older. Soda is
okay in moderation but there are many alternatives. (Duyff) Soda is not the only beverage that can
quench your thirst there are a bonanza of other fluids. These are healthier than soda and can help
you stay away from the detrimental beverage,

Essay Prosocial Self-schemas and Behavior
Prosocial Self schemas and Behavior The theoretical question that has been posed in this article
is whether prosocial private self schemas and prosocial private self awareness are predictors of
prosocial behavior. The self schema is believed to play an important role in the regulation of
behavior. It is believed that behavior is influenced by the activation of a schema. This schema is
connected to the perception of self. Little evidence is shown to conclude that self schemas are
independently influencing any type of behavior and it is presumed that both the descriptive
information about the self and the behavioral information are stored independently of each other.
This would infer that the linkages that are between the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The procedure conducted in the first experiment was straightforward. The participants were brought
to a testing room by one of the two experimenters. The experimenters were both women. The
participant would then be told that they would be participating in a series of different games,
puzzles, and questionnaires. The children were told that for their participation they would receive
fifteen tokens that were worth ten cents each. The tokens could be exchanged for a gift certificate
to Baskin Robbins. The children were then told that they could give some of their tokens to the
children that were not in the study but they did not have to if they did not want to.
To manipulate the private self awareness the experimenter used an abbreviated version of the
California Q sort for children. The California Q sort caused the children to focus on their real self
and then again on their ideal self. The Children not in this condition did thinks such as ?Name as
many cars as you can?.
The experimenter informed the participants that she had to leave for a minute. The experimenter
then gave the children a chance to donate some of their tokens in private to those who have none
but you do not have to if you do not want to. This was done for the private self awareness task.
For the private self schema task, the participants were then given a task designed to measure to the
extent at which they had articulated a private self schema in each of

Defining Good and Evil
Good and evil are more connected to each other than what people give them credit for. Good
coexists with evil and there can be no good unless there is also an evil. Something that benefits a
society would be considered good. On the other hand, if it does not benefit a society, it would be
considered evil. The term good and evilcan be associated with whatever a person sets their moral
to be. When a person finds joy in something, they call it good. On the other hand, if it brings
them agony, they call it evil. Good and evil can mean whatever people want you to think they
mean. What is good to one person can be evil to another person. For instance, a soldier that goes to
war for his country will be viewed as a hero. But the wives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I see it as a test to see who is and who is not worthy.
Evil can also mean many just like good. Evil is a selfish person who only cares for himself. Evil
isn t the opposite of good; however, it is more like a virus. It is far too dependent on good. The
only intention evil has is to hurt and destroy everything in its path. Evil can only be defined by
the good it can take from everyone. The point I am trying to make is that without good evil is
absolutely nothing but another word. Many think that evil people are heartless because of the
things they do. It is kind of hard to truly judge someone until you put yourself in their shoes.
Everyone that does something evil does not just do it out of the blue. Something causes them to
just want to be hurtful to other people. Some one that is evil has to have little to no morals.
What is good to some may be evil to someone else, and what is evil to someone could be good in
another person s eyes. With that being said someone who is evil in everyone eyes are a special
kind of person. Not for the fact that they are evil, but because of whatever event happened in their
life to make them evil. Take Ted Bundy for example. Many people thought that he would turn out
to be a great politician and lawyer. Turns out he killed thirty six plus women and was the most
notorious serial killer in American history. He had a rough childhood but all his problems started
when he first fell in love.

Horse Grooming Steps
It is a horse owner s job to care for the horse that includes grooming the animal. Grooming a horse
has many steps and takes many tools. In order to fully groom a horse it s entire body must be
brushed along with the mane and tail. All of these steps take a large amount of time. Brushing a
horse is a dirty job, plan on wearing clothes that can get dirty. The following paragraphs will
explain how to properly groom a horse. THese steps can be completed in another order however this
seems to be the most efficient order.
In order to groom a horse, first the horse must be caught from pasture. A pasture is a grassy
fenced in area where the horse will spend a majority of its time. To catch the horse a halter and
lead rope are needed. A halter is normally... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2004 Election Case Study
The main goal of this article was to evaluate how voters participated on the internet during the 2004
election. Unlike previous years, the 2004 election saw an increase in voter participation amongst
the younger crowd. One of the contributing factors to this increase was the Internet. The internet as
a whole has helped restructure how political campaigns are run and set forth a new objective: to
gain the young vote. The problem was that young voters, when compared to older generations, were
not as active in the presidential campaigns and lacked the motivation to participate. The solution to
this problem was to redefine how the internetconnected with the voters and to encourage
involvement with the campaign itself. The traditional television

Lab Report On Ascorbic Acid
Introduction
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient used for the creation of certain biological
compounds and is naturally found in citrus fruits. 1 Ascorbic acid has a chemical formula of
C¬¬6H8O6 and reacts with Iodine to cause the reaction:2 C6H8O6(aq) + I2(aq) C6H6O6aq)
+2I¬ (aq) + 2H+
To determine the amount of vitamin C an amount of KIO3 solution with a known concentration had
it s iodine freed with the chemicals KI and H2S04, this allowed the iodine to react with the
dissolved vitamin C tablet. This was then titrated against a primary standard of sodium thiosulfate
at a concentration of 0.01102*10 5¬¬M. These chemicals cause the following reactions3:
KIO3(aq) + 5KI(aq) +3H2SO¬4(aq) 3I2(aq) + 3K2SO4(aq) + 3H2O(l)
2Na2S2O3(aq) + I2(aq) 2NaI(aq) + Na2S4O6(aq)
Since the volume of KIO3 solution and so is the molarity we can determine the amount of KIO3
solution that was freed. We can then compare that to the amount of primary standard used to
determine the amount of Ascorbic acid in the solution.
Procedure
The procedure given in the First Year ChemistryLab Manual for Experiment G4 was followed with
the modifications below.
Instead of using a 500mL volumetric flask a 1L volumetric flask was used. This made calculations
that required Liters (L) easier as the numbers could be carried without doing any math. This also
made the experiment more accurate. Even though the absolute uncertainty increased so did the
volume of the container, this meant that

Buzz Instructions Essay
Purpose
The purpose of this report is to determine whether or not The Buzz instructions are practical for
college students wishing to relax from their studies.
Problem
Most college students encounter a stressful period in their college career. There are many factors
that causes pressure, but one thing is true students tend to want to escape from their stress. Rather
than resorting to alcohol, drugs, or simply avoiding the problem, students can turn to something
else that should not only reduce stress, but also still uses their brain without overstimulating it. The
answer is paper airplanes. According to the University of Guelph (n.d.), breaks help reduce stress,
sustain motivation and increase productivity . Additionally, they believe for about every hour
worked, a 10 minute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The participants are students at Iowa State University. The three criteria include: distance, time
aloft, and clarity of instructions.
DISCUSSION Distance
Explanation
Distance is how far the plane traveled to. The distance recorded begins from where the
participant stood to where the airplane landed. One of the two categories The Buzz is known
for, is its distance according to Fold N Fly (n.d.). The site describes it to resemble a fly and fly well
. Since distance is part of The Buzz s character, it is suitable to test how well it can fly. To many
students, any airplane that travels a few feet would be considered a fair distance. It was
determined before the tests that over 5 feet (60 inches) would be deemed as a successful distance.
Data
Each student had two attempts to get a full picture of the airplane s capabilities. Figure 1 represents
a comparative visual of the differing flight distances between participants and their two tests. The
tests were done in a participant s living room.

False Perception Paper
False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an
obvious causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media
to produce predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of
reporting on the relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising
crime rates (dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in
his article on the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I
think single mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology
from the conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). Beginning with an exploration of
the media s interpretation of this relationship, I will also further examine the correct interpretation,
and the policy implications of Cohen s finding. The Media s Interpretation... Show more content on

Sadly, it appears the media bought into an apparent epidemic and began to publish reports, perhaps
driven by confirmation bias or simply failing to conduct enough investigation. The published reports
in the 1990s cited the cause of rising crime rates as the rising amount of black households with
single mothers that were unable to control their children, instill values, etc. (Cohen, 2012). While I
believe it is not that farfetched to assume there is a relationship between family structure and the
youths from those households committing crime, I also believe there are other factors involved
that the media should have

Differing Writing Styles
Do men and women write differently?
Differing writing styles, depending on gender, is an important issue in our society. It begs the
question whether it is a genetic issue or whether it has to do with the level of education of an
individual. I became aware of the issue when posting a discussion piece for my World Civilization
class online. I am able to view other students writing before posting my discussion piece, and I am
also expected to comment on other students observations of a specific topic. I realized when

Popular Mechanics Raymond Carver
The short story Popular Mechanics , a short story by Raymond Carver tells the story of a
husband and a wife fighting for their child. A reader can also find that the story has symbolism in
two major ways. The first example of symbolism exists within the child. The child represents the
downfall of love. The second example of symbolism can be acquainted to the stages of grief. The
reader having these views greatly alters their perception of the story.
When observing the text the reader can come up with a simple summary. Two parents fight over a
child. In the event of the fight the child is put between the parents. Meaning the two parents now
physically fight over the baby by tugging on it. The baby appears to be symbolic of a link between

him, whilst in denial of this fact. When crying she expresses anger towards the man, swearing at
him and mocking him. These emotions are mostly linked with anger. Once this finishes bargaining
begins. She tries to bargain with the husband over the baby s future home, whether it be hers, or
his. This doesn t work. Depression plays a major role within the text, as the entire tone can be
considered depressing. With a dark and gloomy setting, and a family filled of sadness and hate
towards each other. The final stage of the story and grief is acceptance. In the events that occur
acceptance eventually arrives. Though involuntary, acceptance occurs in the end. In this manner,

How Are Culture and Leadership Linked Essay

How are the concepts of culture and leadership linked?
Introduction:
This literature review will make use of four pieces of academic work to discuss how the concept of
culture can intrinsically affect leadership. The literature finds that the link between culture and
leadership is an important, yet complicated relationship. I will begin by discussing and defining
the central concepts of culture and leadership. I will then explain and analyse the significance of
culture upon leadership. Finally I will review Hofstede s cultural framework to assess its
significance and relevance to the topic at hand.

leaders to have, given the globalisation of our modern world (Wharton University, 1999). The idea
of culture being the central idealism as to why leaders act the way they do in certain environments
is linked to Contingency Theory. This theory stipulates that a leader needs to be able to adapt to the
context they face (King and Lawley, 2013).
Hofstede s framework
Geert Hofstede believed that national cultures were potentially homogenous with organisational
cultures, and that national cultures could be quantitatively identified and compared (King and
Lawley, 2013). Hofstede over a four year period carried out 116,000 morale surveys, from 72
countries, using IBM subsidiaries (Kirkman, Lowe and Gibson, 2006) and from his findings
derived a four fold dimensional framework for measuring national cultures. His first dimension,
Power Distance, is the extent to which people within a nation are accepting of the unequal
distribution of power within institutions and organisations (Hofstede, 1980). This dimension also
helps to explain the way in which leaders and subordinates interact and under what pretences (King
and Lawley, 2013). His second dimension is Uncertainty Avoidance, which measures the

The Breaking Point
Everyone has a breaking point. I was close to mine. The walls felt like they were closing in
around me. I was forced to walk in a single file line like a first grader. The only light was from the
small openings in the rigid cement walls. My legs were screeching in pain. I have climbed
hundreds of steps and it was unknown how many more. None of us had been here before. All I
could tell was that we were going up fast and the ground was becoming farther away. The fear of
plummeting to your death was a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I remind myself not to
look down but it was inevitable. I had to look. I would have not continued if it was not for the fact
that you had to go up in order to go down. I knew that even though it was not... Show more content

I was left in my pajamas standing at the door with just the knowledge that breakfast was in an
hour. I had no idea what we were going to do today. This left my mind to wander all of the things
we could do, compiling a list in my head. After breakfast, we left the hotel and used our map to try
and navigate where the subway was. It turns out the subway was only two blocks away, but
thanks to my uncle it took us close to a half hour to get there. If we didn t look like tourists, I don
t know what does. I mean it was clear we didn t speak Spanish, but when you have adults holding
up maps and screaming directions at each other it was pretty clear we were tourists, lost tourists.
We thought getting to the subway was hard, but the real challenge was figuring out which line to
take. Meanwhile, I had no idea where we were going. It was not like I could help much because I
knew a very small amount of Spanish. Fifteen minutes of arguing later, we finally figured out that
we have to take the red line and get off at the sixth stop. The train ride was quiet. The only sound
was the hum of the train s engine. When we got to our stop we got off quickly and climbed up
steps that placed us back into reality. We were once again united with the busy streets of Barcelona.

Life, Liberty, And The Pursuit Of The American Dream
According to historians, the American Dream can be expressed in a plethora of different ways
throughout history. Starting with the Puritans arriving in North America looking for religious
freedom, we now have the current man wanting to strike it rich. We all have our own perspective
on what we believe the current deposition has become. Have our values changed? Certainly! I
believe we have values now which are unnecessary compared to our ancestor s dreams. They
wish for things we take for granted in today s world: religious freedom, freedom of speech,
liberty. The Declaration of Independence lists, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness . This
shows our forefathers were already considering our actions. If they believe we can reach this goal,
we should be able to. Everyone has an equal opportunity to start the process towards their goals in

Many people only focus on reaching their own goals. We need to come together as a whole and
help everyone reach theirs as well. Our success is only reflected from the work effort we put
forth. America has already set forth many rights in order to guide us along the way. All we need
to do after this is be willing to sacrifice our time and many things we love. This sounds like a
large price to pay but it will pay off in the long run. The pride Americans have in their country is
great, but their ambition to find their own pride in themselves is lacking. We need to find the
pride in ourselves in order to think we will achieve the American Dream. If we believe we are
going to achieve our dream then we will achieve them. For centuries, many people have ran to
America to escape from strict leaders, war, and no religious freedom. Some people take advantage
of others and try to take their wealth instead of earning it on their own. Some work hard to get
what they want and to feed their kids, other humans rely on food stamps to get by on

My Personal Advice For The Chesapeake
Dear uncle, life is extremely harsh over here. I am aware that you are considering migrating to
the Chesapeake Colony because of the fantasy you saw on the newspaper. My personal advice for
you is to eliminate this option. I have always listened to you in the past so please take my advice
for this one time. Your expectation is just an imagination. You may be attracted by the geographic
advantages and the resources in the Chesapeake. You may be interested in the Chesapeake because
of the protection, environment, and the access of resources. Although the Chesapeake Bayprovides
numerous benefits, our population has never been stabilized. Every year our population decreases
constantly. With certainty, your mind must been filled with full of questions. I will give you a
good explanation of why Chesapeake is not an option for you and you love ones. There are
countless reasons that should erase your thought of moving here but the main concern is the death
rate. Without a doubt, I will provide you an elaborated explanation about the Chesapeake s
historical background and why the Chesapeake region is not a suitable place to colonize due to its
extreme mortality rate. Presently, I have been in the Chesapeake Bay colony for about six months
and I am blessed that I am still breathing and writing this letter to you. As a business man, I was
attracted by its transportation advantage due to its numerous river systems surrounding the colony.

Why did women face barriers in their education and...
Throughout history, the role of women has often carried a prejudice which has been embedded
within society politically, socially and financially across the world. Although arguably one of the
most liberal countries constitutionally, such chauvinism has indeed occurred within Britain,
particularly during the Victorian Era. This restricted participation for women can be exemplified
clearly in two main areas; education and politics. With universal compulsory education in Britain
only being constitutionally enforced with the 1870 Education Act1, women had little opportunity to
gain any form of coherent education in the early 19 th century; tuition was largely confined to the
upper class, and even then, through instruction of private... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acting as figurehead of the family, it was the man s opinion, and thus, his vote, that represented the
opinions shared by the entirety of the family, including that of his wife. Even so, women still
proved they could be active politically without having the ability to vote; highlighted by their
involvement in the Chartist movement. Throughout the movement, thousands of women joined
chartist societies, and by actively campaigning, gave themselves a political voice and helped

The Cask Of The Amontillado
Excessive Pride God makes some men poets. Some he makes Kings, some he makers beggars.
Richard Connell makes a clear point that not all people are the same. Some people think they re
better than others. This is often seen in literature. There are several short stories that discuss the
topic of excessive pride. Many authors have conveyed the themes that excessive pride is self
destructive, can change your life, and will come back to haunt you. In the short story, The Cask of
the Amontillado, Edgar Allan Poe conveys how excessive pride is self destroying. He shows how
being too proud in something can make you lose your sanity. In the story, Montresor is planning to
kill Fortunato because of how he insulted him. The author states, And the... Show more content on

Connell makes it to where the excessively proud individual gets haunted by his own choices. In
the story, General Zaroff brags about his hunts and how easy it is for him. The author conveys
Simply this: hunting had ceased to be what you call a sporting proposition . It had become too
easy. I always got my quarry. Always. There is no greater bore than perfection(Connell 25).
Zaroff states that hunting has become too easy because he is so perfect at it. He brags about
how great of a hunter he is and that the quarry stands no chance against him. Furthermore, the
author shows how sickeningly proud Zaroff really is. The author illustrates, The weak of the
world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong. I hunt the scum of the Earth sailors
from tramp ships lascars, blacks, Chinese, whites, Mongols a thoroughbred horse or hound is
worth more than a score of them ( Connell 27). Zaroff is so excessively proud in his hunting and
who he is that he thinks he s doing the world a favor by taking out other people. He kills the
scum of the Earth because they are weak and he is strong . He is proud in the fact that he can kill
these people. There was many different ways that Connell showed excessive pride throughout the

A Grand Gothic Torture Chamber in Edgar Allan Poe s Short...
Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Pit and the Pendulum , uses the grand gothic setting of a
torture chamber during the Spanish Inquisition that contains a mysterious pit, symbolizing how
the absence of religion in the narrator s life makes him fear the unknown. Once the narrator
discovers the pit, he is filled with dread at the thought of falling into it: Shaking in every limb, I
groped my way back to the wall; resolving there to perish rather than risk the terrors of the wells,
of which my imagination now pictured many in various positions about the dungeon (Poe 7).
The narrator is a heretic, so he most likely does not accept the idea of life after death. He has
likely imagined various fates. Each pit that he has imagined in the room represents a different
fate, so he fears falling into them. In fact, the narrator fears falling into the pit more than any
other torture inflicted upon him. Poe writes, Neither could I forget what I had read of these pits
that the sudden extinction of life formed no part of their most horrible plan (7). Although the
narrator does not know himself what will happen to him after death, but no doubt he has read
about what happens to heretics after they die according to Christianity: they go to Hell, where
they are tortured for eternity. While his body would die, his soul, the source of his life, would be
trapped forever. If falling into the pit leads to this fate, the narrator would greatly fear it. Later in
the story the pit begins to

Marijuana Prohibition
From the eighteenth century onward in the United States, there has been a temperance movement.
In other words, many people crusaded against what they saw to be the damaging effects of alcohol
on health, personal and professional relationships, and society at large. The temperance movement
gained so much gravity that the production, sale, and consumption of alcohol were actually
prohibited from 1920 to 1933. As we all know, prohibitionof alcohol was a dismal failure, as a
thriving black market continued to produce what many citizens wanted. Marijuana prohibition on
the other hand, was not a direct cause of public outcry. It was made illegal due to political
maneuvering and an attempt to make amends for the fuck ups of prohibition of alcohol.... Show

For a long time, the anti marijuana community s rallying banner has been marijuana s effect on
short term memory. However, hardly any of the factoids on anti drug websites or pamphlets
actually clarifies WHEN the short term memory loss is occurring. For anyone who has smoked
marijuana, they have felt the effects of not being able to remember a train of thought while
under the influence of the substance. However, does marijuana have long term effects on short
term memory? This is much less clear, and if it doesn t, then the DEA doesn t really have a rock
to stand on. What difference does it make if someone has their short term memory impaired
WHILE smoking marijuana? If someone smokes up and forgets to attend a job interview, it is
not the marijuana s problem, but the fact that the user made a poor judgment call. So what is to
be learned from all of this? Is it that since alcohol poses more health risks than marijuana, that it
should once again be banned? Certainly not. I think the lesson to be learned is that prohibition of a
substance that poses few health risks when used in MODERATION is not right for America. Sure,

Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings...
Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there
are some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework
classifying the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict
definitions by discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches
to this topic are different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a
being. There is key similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and
Heidegger are two philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being?
This paper discusses the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle
asks many what questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific
type of animals and how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy
when discussing the differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled
destructible mobile substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can
disintegrate when no soulis in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul
but not a rational soul compared to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal
is a living item that has perception. (413b1 5) These perceptions state that the animals have wants,
desires,

Mary Anne Warren s Argument On The Legal Status Of Abortion
Mary Anne Warren s argument on the legal status of abortion stands on a concrete understanding
and realization of an individual s personhood. Now Mary Anne Warren s unyielding argument on
the basis of personhood is that, If we assume that an entity is a person just because it happens to
belong to our favored biological classification, we stand convicted of speciesism, close cousin to
racism. There are properties that do qualify an entity as a person, but simply being human is not one
of them (124). To first be able to argue why the abortionof a fetus is permissible she needs to give a
clear distinction of what can be established a decisive factor of personhood. To distinguish a line
between a fetus and a human and if abortion is to be morally permissible there needs to be an
understanding of when this cut off between the two officially happens. In an example of the
potential personhood and a right to life Mary Ann Warren uses a hypothetical scenario of a space
explorer who lands on an unknown plant. While on this plant he encounters a race of aliens. Now
since he is on another plant in the presence of these alien beings how should he act towards these
beings. He must first determine if they have the capability of moralityor if it is acceptable to
consume these aliens for food. To determine if these aliens are in fact part of a moral personhood
maybe he can notice works of art, forms of tools, and communication. However, even without
evidence of these things they could

Cyber Defense Concerns On Global Security
Cyber Defense Concerns in Global Security
The cyber domain crosses both physical and logical borders across the globe. No longer is every
aspect of a domain clearly part of a single nation. Occurrences within cyberspace has far reaching
effects. 15 million T Mobile customer s data stolen via Experian server compromise, massive
cyberattacks on Estonia and Georgia networks (2007 and 2008 respectively), and over $1 trillion
reportedly lost due to cybercrime. These are just a few concerns facing global and state level
security demonstrating significant concern and requirement for action. Criminal syndicates as well
as other non state and state actors use cyberspace to conduct illegal activities. In this, a common

The final concern facing global and national security is state sponsored activities. These three
concerns are the leading factors for cyber defense in global security.
Cybercrime is on the rise across the globe as criminal organizations and likeminded actors gain
easy access to skilled professionals and/or affordable commercial/free software. This type of
crime is alluring and extremely lucrative due to low physical risk and very high rewards
(Heickero, 2013). Another aspect of cybercrime is the theft of Intellectual Property (IP) and trade
secrets. A great example of the theft of IP and impact is the study of CISCO versus Huawei
routers and the growing takeover by China due to IP/Trade secret gains (Demchak, 2011). Though,
the severity of IP is difficult to articulate due to the various intangible losses. A McAfee study
shows that such crime plays a significant factor in trade balances, national income, and jobs which
drastically impacts economic security (McAfee, 2014).
States must also deal with cyber espionage, which is one of the most aggressive activities in
cyberspace. Cyber espionage relates to both cybercrime and cyber warfare. Similar to the criminal
theft of IP and trade secrets, cyber espionage is illicit access to confidential information held by
government or other organizations. Such gains are used to support political, religious, commercial,

Dan Glickman at ShoWest Essay
Dan Glickman at ShoWest LAS VEGAS Citing long term trends to offset short term dips, Dan
Glickman, who became president and CEO of the MPAA in September, presented his first state of
the industry address Tuesday at ShoWest 2005. Speaking to a crowded house of exhibitors and
distributors at the Paris hotel in what he dubbed his maiden voyage to the annual convention,
Glickman judged that the industry is healthy. We have had some growth this year not radical
growth, but the trends are positive. According to the MPAA s bookkeepers, U.S. boxoffice for

At the same time, there were slight increases in the costs of trailers and online Internet

at $98 million, down almost 5% from 2003 s record of $102.8 million. While only one out of 10
films recoups its costs during its theatrical release, four out of 10 make money during their full
life cycle. Glickman cited long term trends, though, to buttress his contention that the industry
remains on solid ground. Over the past five years, he noted, boxoffice has climbed more than $1
billion. And though individual admissions have been down the past two years, they have risen
20% an average of 2% a year over the past 10 years. Foreign boxoffice has grown even more
dramatically, he added. Last year, it totaled $15.7 billion, up more than 44% from 2003. As for
moviegoers, they enjoy a relative bargain according to National Association of Theatre Owners
president John Fithian, who joined Glickman at the early morning press conference. Last year, the
average ticket price hit $6.21, up 3% over the 2003 figure of $6.03. Still, Fithian noted, that 3%

Written in England, around 1610 1611, William Shakespeare created the romance play titled The
Tempest. This piece of literature is set entirely on an unnamed island in the Mediterranean Sea
during the Renaissance time period; this type of setting is far from the royal courts and civic
concerns which typically dominate the Shakespearean corpus (Louden 201). In the beginning, the
main character Prospero, the duke of Milan, and his infant daughter were exiled from Milan, put
on a ship, and left to fend for themselves in the dangerous waters of the sea. It was by the power

Jesus conception and birth, while Mark and John introduce us to an older Jesusprophesized by John

The main difference would be the setting of each discourse. The Sermon on the Mount was
conducted on top a hill that overlooked a huge crowd that had gathered to listen to Jesus (Mt 5:1
2). Compared to the more private setting of the Last Supper, in which Jesus is gathered around a
table with his disciples, the Sermon on the Mount renders a public account of Jesus. As a public
figure, Jesus accommodated his teachings that day to refer to the human condition and the law.
He gives the crowd a disclaimer at the very beginning when he mentions that he has not come to
abolish the law, but to fulfill it (Mt 5:17). He then goes on to advise the crowd on how to handle
anger, adultery, divorce, oaths, retaliation, and enemies. In doing so, he relates each subject
back to the law and explains a new point for each and how it fulfills God s overall
commandment. An example of this is when he mentions how the law says that you are to love
your neighbor and hate your enemy, but God commands that you pray for your prosecutors and
love those who hate you (Mt 5:43 45). This further reinforces the point that the kingdom that
Jesus preaches of is not achieved by following the world s rules, but only those of God. This
example also correlates back to the passage in which Jesus washes the disciples feet. He lowers
himself to the position of a servant in order to teach them a lesson of humility and

Max Weber on Society Essay
Max Weber on Society
Max Weber was one of the world s greatest sociologists and wrote a lot about the capitalist world
he lived in. He had a different conception of capitalist society than most of his contemporaries. He
looked at capitalism from all the different aspects that the philosophy was made of. Some of these
aspects are state power, authority, class inequality, imperialism, and bureaucracy. To understand
how Weber thought one must look at each area separately then put them all together in a global
package.
Weber describes history in terms of the constant struggle for power. He bases all significant
historical changes on the power struggle that caused them. Weber describes power as a zero sum
game. That means for one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike rational legal authority, traditional authority is not codified in impersonal rules but is
usually invested in a hereditary line or invested in a particular office by a higher power. Finally,
charismatic authority rests on the appeal of leaders who claim allegiance because of the force of
their extraordinary personalities.
Weber does not feel that the power of a class is a very important issue. Weber feels that classes
are only important, within the struggle for power, when they state they are part of their class in
their actions. Classes, along with status groups, are just passive members in society. Only if a
political party solely represents the class, then it becomes active. This unimportance of classes
shows Weber s feelings that the economic issues within capitalism do not effect authority or the
struggle for power.
Imperialism, in Weber s mind, is not a matter of economics. He states that imperialism more of a
political tool. It is used as a tool of prestige for the elites and way to promote nationalism among
the masses. The idea of imperialism was around before capitalism, so it is natural to Weber to
say that it could not have been created by capitalism. Imperialism did, however, appeal to all
members of the ruling classes. It appeals to the prestige of the old elites and it is the source of
money for the new elites; but the appeal of prestige is the more important factor to Weber.

Racism And Discrimination Coincide With A Lot Of Issues
Maisson Shuman ENC 1102 Dr. Dimock 12/01/2016 Racism and discrimination coincide with a

America is forgoing at this moment of time. Especially with this recent presidential elections.
Many do not realize this type of prejustice also plays a role in sports throughout history and up
until this day. One main issue is religion. I am a Muslim and I am proud to follow the religion of
Islam. Many people judge and have things to say because of the scarf us Muslims choose to
wear on our heads. Many girls who wear head scarfs are discriminated against and nobody seems
to want them on their team. Imagine you love sports, work hard, play games and for the real
competitions somebody tells you are not allowed to wear a piece of clothing on your head. This
is what many Muslim women across the globe have to experience each day. In my opinion these
are the types of things that need more media coverage, even the NFL should speak publicly
about. It is not fair that somebody is discriminated against because of the color of their skin, what
religion they choose to follow, or how the live their life. If somebody wants to and it is their
dream and passion he/she should be allowed to play. Others should stress this argument and do
whatever it takes for this to happen and for hate to be diminished. Athletic rivalry, expert or not, has

Comparison and Contrast
In the name Allah
Professor: Dr.Bahman Amani
Prepared by: Akbar Akbari

Date: May 6th 2010
вќ– Definition: To compare is to show how items are alike. To contrast is to show how items are
different. Thus comparison and contrast involve pointing out the similarities or differences between
two (or more) items.
In deciding what to compare or contrast, you will want to make sure that the items share points in
common. Thus, the items compared are usually the same kind or class of thing, and in comparing
and contrasting them, you essentially establish two or more categories, showing the differences or
similarities between or among them. For example, you can compare two passenger cars a Ford and
a Cadillac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But your readers will probably want to know what the similarity or difference amounts to. You can
write this for a thesis. However, once you ve noted the difference, the readers will see that you ve
merely stated the obvious. Thus comparison and contrast for its own sake is generally pointless, but
both are extremely useful to develop support for a thesis. To support the thesis statement we should
outline central paragraphs.
вќ– Central paragraph organization:
When you have decided whether to concentrate on comparison or contrast, you still must decide
how to do it. You should organize your comparison or contrast by whichever method suits your
material best. There are three different methods of organization of central paragraph: 1) Point by
point or alternating method 2) Block method 3) Mixed method
1) Point by point or alternating method: In this method you explain one characteristic of item A and
then immediately compare it with that of item B and then you go on to compare the two items
point by point. For example when you want to contrast two brands of automobile e. g. Nissan and
Toyota to decide which to buy, you will consider such subtopics (elements) as price, mile per gallon,
length and width, comfort, and maintenance expense. Thus the organizational type will be:

Disadvantages Of Automobiles
Introduction
Ever since mankind was born, the most common activity that any human would perform everyday;
is travelling. Whether it was travelling a very short distance ranging from 1 meter to miles and
miles, mankind would travel in order to acquire the elements needed for survival. For short
travelling distances mankind would walk; in the earlier days human beings walked longer
distances. For longer distances humans would ride on the back of animals to get them to their
destination. Now a days, human beings walk shorter distances in average. And instead of the
difficult rides on the back of an animal, they ride inside a cool machine that would withstand almost
any weather condition to get them to even farther destinations. The machine is ... Show more

Automobiles improved our life a lot because now we can visit our relatives and friends easily
without making any effort. Before automobiles, people used to travel for about 3 months walking
to reach other country under the sun with camels which now can be reached in 12 hours only with
an automobile with cold air conditioner. This is a huge improvement in transportation which will
increase the amount of people who will travel by automobiles. The automobile has affected the
world more than any other invention of its time. It must adapt to whatever is going on in the
world at the time and keep up with future innovations. Each year, cars are becoming quicker,
more luxurious, and more environmentally safe. It is predicted that there will be a billion cars on
the road by 2025 [2]. The invention of the automobile opened up doors to new inventions. It
allowed for people to worry less about making it to dinner on time, and worry more about the
actual dinner. People can travel faster in automobiles and feel more comfortable at the same time.
They will continue to influence every part of economy. Without automobiles, life as we know it
would not be the same, and the changes that they have brought upon the earth can be seen in every

The Goal of Education is the Student Discovering the Power...
I know of no more important goal in education than that the child shall discover the power of his or
her own mind. And I know of no more important source of that discovery for every child, than the
inquiry that lives in continuing exploratory in the classroom. (Lindfors, 1999, p.247)
Kindergarten is the place where children explore real experiences and know how world works.
They start gradually to construct knowledge and transform their curiosities into thoughts and
questions. By wondering to find answers, children find themselves engaged in scientific thinking
aimed to solve everyday problems. This approach needs to be encouraged and developed in an
educational setting where teachers play major role in changing curriculum and organizing
instructions to meet children needs (Poon, Tan Tan, 2009).
Our children, in kindergarten, are exposed to direct instruction method. The problem is that
teachers are not aware that using this method will not lead children to learn science. This method is
no longer appropriate. World has changed, educationhas changed and young children should
master new skills in thinking. They must develop new understanding of modern life and be able
to master new practical issues .Using the direct method restrain kids from exploring world of
science. We must give children chances to develop new skills and become life long learners.
Teachers, who are resisting the change, are ignorant of the fact that what they are doing in

Democracy In America
Virginia was pried on its honest government in the days of Byrd machine. It was describes as
museum of democracy where the government reflected nothing according to the will of the public.
The basic structure was not equal for urban residents, women, minorities and the Republicans. The
power and authority was in the hands of few white men.
The right to vote for electing the members of General assembly was established in 1619 but only to
those, which had a certain amount of property. Black men were not allowed to vote until the 15th
amendment and women until the 19th amendment after the civil war. The voting was dishonest and
there was a lot a corruption.

The last step for getting rid museum of democracy happened in 2008 when the battleground came
to Virginia and Barack Obama won the presidential election over John McCain. The later election
of 2009 and 2010 the republicans were celebrated the victory for the state elections.
The long legacy of the one party system broke in Virginia in 2017. It is the first time that primaries

Party competition in the state:
The strength of the political parties is in flux. The democrats were the dominant party from the
1830 s but the lost control and regained political control by winning the state elections held in
2007 and eight seats were taken in the House of Delegates by the Republican Party. In 2009

Republican Lieutenant Governor and the Attorney General gained six seat in House of Delegates.
Two thirds of the sets were taken over by the Republican caucus in 2011 and the majority of Senate

Out Stealing Horses Analysis
In the novel, Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson, a 67 year old man named Trond who lives in
solitude in Norway reflects back on the summer of 1948 where several significant events changed
his life. It follows his progression of growing up and starting to understand more about the people
and surroundings that revolve around his life and how they ve shaped him into becoming a mature
and wise man. Eventually, he realizes the truth that growing up is inevitable and accepts the fact
that things will never be the same again. In Out Stealing Horses, Petterson uses the motif and
imagery of water to show how Trond s familiarity and interactions with the river reflects his gradual
process of maturing from a innocent boyinto a stronger man. As a young boy, Trond s interactions
with water illustrates his innocence, showing his youthful behavior and preservation of
innocence. Growing up, water has played a huge role in Trond s life; He would often go out,
fishing for trout in the river (15) or riding logs down the river (15). These activities that Trond
engages in reflects Trond s close bond with the river and how it brought out his adventurous and
youthful behavior. The dynamic environment of the river and the never ending flow of water is
symbolic of Trond s constant energetic youth. As a kid, Trond was always outside admiring the
beauty of nature or out stealing horses, and the river provided him the opportunity to do that. In
order to go out stealing horses, Trond had to row across the river (32), in which the river acted
as the path or gateway that led Trond to his next adventure. In addition, the river also represents
Trond s reluctance to change or grow out of his childhood. Trond recalls, I could immerse myself
in water up to my chin and remain the person I was (101). This highlights the idea that the river is
a comfort zone in which Trond is able to submerge himself in and stay youthful. Trond doesn t
want to grow out of his childhood and the river protects his innocence. Even with the current
pounding away and pulling at his body, (101) Trond felt untouched and remained the same person.
This shows how the river maintains Trond s growth into a man and it serves to show that Trond is
the anchor of

Racism And Racism In Othello
Race plays an important role in William Shakespeare s Othello: an intense tragedy of an admired
military general, who is driven to kill his wife and himself out of jealously. Othello is of Black
African descent, which separates him from many in his Venetian world. Throughout the play,
Othello s race is seen as a negative aspect of his character, which is used by the antagonist, Iago, as
a weak point to initiate chaos. The play depicts racismand uses the influence of radicalized
perspective to create a tragedy. Shakespeare created Othelloto be a great leader, a powerful and
noble man, to defy Venetian societal views. He did so effectively through the development of
varied interpersonal relationships, and how racism effects each of them.
When Othello is first introduced into the play, the audience knows that he is a well respected
leader. As the play continues, racist and non racist views become quite evident, which eventually
effect the actions and ways Othello sees himself. Othello s wife, Desdemona, is a young Caucasian
woman, who recognizes Othello for his true self, not his race. She admires the dangers that [he]
had passed (1.3.193. Shakespeare, William. Othello), and his abilities as a valiant leader.
Desdemona knows that her inter racial marriage is not common, or widely approved of, yet she
continues to trumpet to the world (1.3.285. Shakespeare, Othello) her love for him. Her
unwavering devotion to Othello is a critical detail because she stays true to her feelings in a world
where she is surrounded by discrimination towards Othello. Before Iago approaches Desdemona s
father, Brabantio, about their marriage, Othello expresses that [Desdemona s] father loved [him]
(1.3.149. Shakespeare, Othello), and often invited him into their home (1.3.149. Shakespeare,
Othello). These examples of characters from the play and their non racist views of Othello prove
that Othello is a play that illustrates racism, not a play meant to offend and segregate against
people of colour.
Many critics of Othello have suggested that Shakespeare wrote a racist play, and that Shakespeare
himself wanted to convince others that even a black man in Venetian society will eventually revert
to his violent and animal like ways

Luther King Jr
The fight for racial equality between the African American and Caucasian races in Civil Rights
Movement of the 1950s and 1960s was an extraordinary point in history. Two of the leaders of
this movement were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. These two leaders were almost
complete opposites of each other in how they acted. One of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. s famous
speech, I Have a Dream had shown that passion and faith can restore the broken promises of
America and its government. This was most likely due to how Dr. King grew up. Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. had grown up in a balanced, benevolent family with his father and grandfather who
were part of the ministry. Martin Luther King Jr. was able to establish a secure impression on what

message on the other hand was about how such things as passion and faith will do nothing to help

the point. It is very surprising how dissimilar these two men were with how they ended up in

The, Liberals And The Neo Orthodox
Throughout the Church history, details in which to interpret Scripture and the place of it, has
been debated among major groups for centuries. Three major groups that all read and interpret
scripture to a different standard are the Evangelicals, Liberals and the Neo Orthodox. Each group
holds the Scriptures sacred in their own way, but not everyone agrees to the others use. The first
group was the Liberals. The Liberals were by far the most unique of these three groups because
were prepared to disregard standard traditions to get to a more contemporary way of practicing their
faith. One way they did this was in the way they looked at scripture. When reading Scripture, they
did not see it as inspired in the same way that other groups did. Typically, across denominations,
most everyone views scripture with the most authority because it is God s Word and they believe
that the text is directly from God s mouth, but the Liberals didn t see it that way. They believed that
Christianitywas meant to change as time progressed. For example, they believed many of the
statements that are made throughout the Bible, both New and Old Testament, were not meant to be
the standard in which Christians were to be held at today because times have changed and
changes in beliefs are to be made as society and culture changes. The next group was the
Evangelicals. Evangelicals were a group that was predominantly popular in England. Evangelicals
are by far the most traditional, but not in way

Genre Of A Motivational Athlete Tweet
Genre can be defined in many different ways. The word genre is something that can be very
flexible; it s not something that is classified under a rigid definition. Genre is the way you separate
different things into different categories; it s how you classify items based on something that they
have in common. Also, there are many different digital artifacts that can be categorized into many
different genres; basically anything can be put into a genre; my digital artifact, which is a Kobe
Bryant tweet from 2014, can be categorized under the genre of a motivational athlete tweet. A
concise depiction about the tweet is Kobe saying that he wanted to thank the team that traded him
after they told him that they had no use for him on their team, and then he ended up winning five
championships with the Los Angeles Lakersand also go down as one of the best to ever play the
game of basketball. This tweet really stands out to me. It motivates me; just because someone says
that you can t do something doesn t mean that you can t do it, if you put your mind to it and put in
the work you can be as successful as you want. As stated before, this is a motivational athlete tweet,
which is meant to target the audience of either young athletes or people who need some sort of
motivationin their lives. Furthermore, this tweet s intended audience is most likely leaning towards
young aspiring athletes or people who just need some kind of motivation in their life. Kobe Bryant

The Second Language ( L2 ) Learners
The second language(L2) learners often struggle to identify possible grammars in their second
languages. In particular, they fail to form a sentence with an appropriate functional morpheme
(Lardiere, 1998; White, 2003). A functional morpheme refers to a morpheme which performs some
kind of grammatical function, playing a role in lexical change. It consists of the function words in
the language such as definite markers. The inflection of a definite marker, in other words,
definiteness, distinguishes a nominal phrase (NP) between identifiable and non identifiable. That
is, whether or not, a referent is identifiable or previously introduced in the discourse. In addition to
identifiability, definiteness is expected to incorporate other notion,... Show more content on

This paper mostly analyzes the issue of cross linguistic variation of definiteness with sample data
and examples from English and Japanese.
Dryer (2013) classifies definiteness into five categories. The first type is the languages in which
definite article are independent, and are distinct from demonstrative words. This type is used
commonly in Western European, Oceanic and Mesoamerican languages (Dryer, 2013; Schroeder,
2006). English is categorized in this type of languages.
In English, the grammatical element is encoded with regard to a contrast between a definite article
the, and indefinite articles a/an in the language. The type of noun (count versus mass) is also a
factor: indefinite mass nouns and indefinite plural countable nouns can appear without articles, i.e.
as bare nouns. Furthermore, other determiners in English are consist of demonstratives,
possessives, quantifiers, and cardinal numbers, some of which are definite and indefinite. The
distribution of articles in English is presented in (1). Examples involving singular count nouns are
illustrated in (2). Note that these singular count nouns cannot be bare, as illustrated in (2e).

What Is Bfoq And List To Which Characteristics It Applies

Lending Tree Home Loans And Home Loan Lenders
Lending Tree portends to act as an online conciliator between individuals looking for home loans
and home loan lenders. The premise is that by connecting several lenders with the client, or rather
making several lenders aware of a potential customer, that the loan with the best interest rate will
rise to the top of the stack. Lending Tree claims to offer debtconsolidation and to lower one s
monthly interestrates. The company s advertising campaign seems to suggest that Lending Tree
will act as a negotiator for the client, urging banks to compete for your business. While this is
not exactly the case, using the site essentially amounts to shopping around for a better deal
which, of course, is better than buying on impulse. Lending Tree Home Loans takes your
information, including your financial goals, and runs a credit check. At this point the service
submits this information to a number of lenders. This is meant to create the impression that
banks are competing for your business, when in fact the client is only receiving basic service
offers from lenders who have been made aware of her or him by Lending Tree. Many customers
have had the experience of receiving offers from lenders during non business hours within minutes
of submitting their query. This is suspicious, as it seems clear that in these cases Lending Tree has
acted as little more than an advertising service for the lenders. This would mean that Lending Tree
s real clientele are the lending firms, who are

Then, solids and oil contents are removed from the boiled stock to obtain a stock solution and
this stock solution is supplied to a decomposition tank to treat it by enzyme decomposition. In the
aforementioned enzyme decomposition step, enzyme decomposition may be carried out by
adding one or more than two protein decomposing enzyme, fat decomposing enzyme and the like
to the stock solution in the decomposition tank. A preferred decomposing enzyme used in the
decomposition tank is a bacterial protein decomposing enzyme, such as NEOVITALASE
SUPER (which is a trade name manufactured by Towa Koso in Japan). With the use of the
aforementioned enzyme, gelatin and protein are rapidly decomposed in the stock solution, and a
separation operation in a filter can easily be carried out. Enzyme decomposition in the
decomposition tank is carried out by increasing a temperature of the stock solution to about 50В°
60В° C., and keeping it for about 30 minutes to 3 hours, preferably 1 2 hours, and after
decomposition, the temperature is raised to higher than 95В° C. to deactivate the decomposing
enzyme. The stock solution enzyme decomposed as described above is separated into a solid
content and a liquid content and then the separated liquid content is filtered to form a clarified
liquid.

  • 2. Leningrad Cemetery Winter Of 1941 Analysis Sharon Olds, in her poem Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 , portrays the dreary and dire effects of war. As one of the most destructive and longest sieges of history had just begun, the countless bodies scarred the citizens of Leningrad. In order to convey horror, hopelessness, and death, Olds utilizes simile extensively, corrupting images with typically hopeful connotation. As corpses permeate the graveyard, the ability sustain life itself comes into question; Olds warps the significance of the tree to argue that life is no longer sustainable. Due to the lack of enough wood for coffins, the disposal of corpses exemplify desperation and require inhumane treatment. The sheer number of corpses necessitates that many are Bound with rope like the tree s ball of roots / When it waits to be planted (7 8). Literally converting poisonous carbon dioxide into oxygen, a tree preserves life on earth. Ironically, as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, the ropes were not the only way that the bodies were dealt with, for there were others wound in sheets, / Their pale, gauze, tapered shapes / Stiff as cocoons (8 10) . The idea of the cocoon is magical and hopeful with a romantic root in nature. The metamorphosis of a grounded caterpillar to a free butterfly parallels that of the hope for the spirits of the dead to move on, released from their earthly vessels. The hopes for the dead are only met with more suffering, for they are With no sign of peace, wanting to come back / ... / Even to the icy winter, and the siege. (16 18). Assuming that their noble deaths in the war keep the souls of the dead away from hell at the very least, Olds foresees only pain in the afterlife. The souls do not gain freedom or experience any metamorphosis. Instead, they are trapped in a world of pain far worse than the pain of living, exemplified through their will to come ... • 3. Technology s Impact On Transportation Essay Technology have greatly impacted the transportation field and in effect have completely changed the way the human race travel, the way goods are shipped and the economy of every developed nation. Technology in transportation is not something new, technology have continually had in impact on travel and transportation. This impact can be see ranging from the Viking Longships , which were very fast for their times. These Longships facilitated the Vikings expansion and helped them conquer new lands that were hundreds of miles away from their homes (Vikings: Vikings at sea). The railroads in the 1800 s also were a new form of technology, and this technology provided an opportunity for individuals to move farther west to new lands and new opportunities that they never thought would have existed. In our day and age, technology will continue to have a massive impact on transportation. Knowing that technology will continue to have an impact on transportation, this paper will analyze the technological opportunities in the transportation field and the new opportunities that they will provide in the near future. First, this paper will examine a new form of rail transportation called Hyperloop. This paper will discuss how Hyperloop affects product manufacturers and everyday individuals in their daily lives. Second, this paper will look at a new phase that the Tesla Company is implementing, a phase they title Master Plan, Part Deux , we will discuss how this new phase might affect the ... • 4. How Does Rebecca Define Clarity Clarity Although clarity has many meanings and is most often used as being clear and concise, it can be much more than that. The person who declares one definition is not always right. Whether it s what he said, she said, or they said, it does not mean they are exactly right or wrong. Clarity could be a messy word because it s broad. Rebecca might say that it holds a feeling or moment and others could say it means to be clear about what you are saying. Many people could have a different outlook. Rebecca s way of defining clarity is good because she allows more than a definition of the word but a definition of the idea. Many people go through hard times in life and in the end we all learn a lesson of some sort, whether that lesson be about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. No Jobs In America Today background This paper is a final essay assignment for SOC 3421W which is Sociology of Work: Good Jobs, Bad Jobs, No Jobs? . This essay is about No Jobs in America today, and the effects of a jobless situation on individuals, and my policy recommendations for increasing good jobs, reducing bad jobs, and eliminating no jobs will be described in this essay. This sample is the first part of the essay which includes introduction and some parts about the term, causes and consequences. I have some concerns about grammar in this essay. Especially, I would like to check whether I have used proper tenses and a/an and the in sentences correctly or not. No Job in America Today As the economy and technology in today have been developed constantly, the system of job markets has increased and diversified in various ways. However, even though the jobs are subdivided more and more, many people still hardly find the jobs which are perfectly fitted to (fitted to? Or fitted with?) each individual and unemployment situations are occurred in many different circumstances. Although countless jobs and people who have jobs exist in modern society, most workers experience frequent unemployment at some point or between jobs during their working lives. According to Hudson (2002), the unemployment rate in the United States has stayed at relatively high levels during much of the period since the end of the Second World War. In this essay, the effects of a jobless situation on individuals which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age, Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123). Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first footnote referenced in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary piece in reaction to a report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government investigation that had uncovered the mistreatment of child workers; and to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a meadow (57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference between a cowslip and a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were working in factories or mining for coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of play time for these employed children was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her poem; whereas, other problems that these children encountered included exhaustion and facing hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how tired the children were and how little energy they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it were merely / To drop down in them and sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they experienced and its consequences for the children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall upon our faces, trying to go (69 70). She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the adolescents experienced each day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we drag our burden tiring (73). • 7. Criticism Of The Dead By Margot Norris Margot Norris criticism is about the silencing of women, I used this one because it helps with that point of view I want to back up in my own essay as well. Norris argues that the silencing of women in The Dead proves to make the feminist criticism stronger. She describes in depth the characters that are silenced and the ways that they are silenced and her view of on the feminist end of things. She supports that these women are silenced and makes a strong argument about it. But, overall, she says we read the novel as we choose to. Some readers may see it as different and some may not. I used two other dissertations as sources because I wanted to get someone from the educational point of view, a criticism of someone that is similar to mine and talking about this subject as well. I spared them equally and only used parts of them so far in this particular prospectus, but I chose Badcock s essay because she explains how women were treated in Joyce s lifetime. How the background of what I m trying to convey is important. How Joyce saw women and how that was bled into Gabriel s character. Beckham has the view of masculinity and how Gabriel s ego is constantly being deflated. The argument that can be made is, he attempts to use these female characters to boost that ego, yet it doesn t work that way. The criticism is essentially for Gabriel s ever changing masculinity, but it can be used as an opposing or for point of view, as well. I want to focus on the masculinity factor and ... • 8. The Detrimental Effects of Soda and Cola The Detrimental Effects of Soda What is your favorite soda? Coke? Do you know what is in soda? Cutting down on soda can lead to a healthy and better lifestyle. Studies show that soda, though it tastes good, has many negative effects that outweigh the positive effects. Soda, especially diet, is detrimental to the health of your body. My cousin s teacher did an experiment with coke. She put a tooth in coke and left it for at least a week. The next time they checked the tooth had disintegrated. The coke had eaten away at the tooth. If this can happen to a tooth imagine what it does to your body. How healthful are these drinks, which provide a lot of sugars, calories and caffeine but no significant nutritional value? And what happens if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coke s new C2 and Pepsi Edge hope to solve this problem without compromising taste but there are still many other ingredients in C2 and Edge that can lead to obesity. Tooth Decay is another problem affecting the US. Both sugar and phosphoric acid from sodas contribute to it and the soft drink industry admits to it. But the NSDA (National Soft Drink Association) also says that soft drinks aren t the sole cause of tooth decay. A lot of sugary foods, from fruit juices to candy and even raisins and other dried fruit, have what dentists refer to as cariogenic properties, which means they can cause tooth decay. Though other foods have cariogenic properties soda definitely has the largest percentage of these properties. A federally funded study of nearly 3,200 Americans 9 to 29 years old conducted between 1971 and 1974 showed a direct link between tooth decay and soft drinks. Numerous other studies have shown the same link throughout the world, from Sweden to Iraq. Soda has become the number one choice beverage in the US. The younger you start drinking soda daily the more likely you are going to develop osteoporosis, tooth decay, and a myriad of other ailments when older. Soda is okay in moderation but there are many alternatives. (Duyff) Soda is not the only beverage that can quench your thirst there are a bonanza of other fluids. • 9. Essay Prosocial Self-schemas and Behavior Prosocial Self schemas and Behavior The theoretical question that has been posed in this article is whether prosocial private self schemas and prosocial private self awareness are predictors of prosocial behavior. The self schema is believed to play an important role in the regulation of behavior. It is believed that behavior is influenced by the activation of a schema. This schema is connected to the perception of self. Little evidence is shown to conclude that self schemas are independently influencing any type of behavior and it is presumed that both the descriptive information about the self and the behavioral information are stored independently of each other. This would infer that the linkages that are between the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... or ?Is this a nice word?? The procedure conducted in the first experiment was straightforward. The participants were brought to a testing room by one of the two experimenters. The experimenters were both women. The participant would then be told that they would be participating in a series of different games, puzzles, and questionnaires. The children were told that for their participation they would receive fifteen tokens that were worth ten cents each. The tokens could be exchanged for a gift certificate to Baskin Robbins. The children were then told that they could give some of their tokens to the children that were not in the study but they did not have to if they did not want to. To manipulate the private self awareness the experimenter used an abbreviated version of the California Q sort for children. The California Q sort caused the children to focus on their real self and then again on their ideal self. The Children not in this condition did thinks such as ?Name as many cars as you can?. The experimenter informed the participants that she had to leave for a minute. The experimenter then gave the children a chance to donate some of their tokens in private to those who have none but you do not have to if you do not want to. This was done for the private self awareness task. • 10. Defining Good and Evil Good and evil are more connected to each other than what people give them credit for. Good coexists with evil and there can be no good unless there is also an evil. Something that benefits a society would be considered good. On the other hand, if it does not benefit a society, it would be considered evil. The term good and evilcan be associated with whatever a person sets their moral to be. When a person finds joy in something, they call it good. On the other hand, if it brings them agony, they call it evil. Good and evil can mean whatever people want you to think they mean. What is good to one person can be evil to another person. For instance, a soldier that goes to war for his country will be viewed as a hero. But the wives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I see it as a test to see who is and who is not worthy. Evil can also mean many just like good. Evil is a selfish person who only cares for himself. Evil isn t the opposite of good; however, it is more like a virus. It is far too dependent on good. The only intention evil has is to hurt and destroy everything in its path. Evil can only be defined by the good it can take from everyone. The point I am trying to make is that without good evil is absolutely nothing but another word. Many think that evil people are heartless because of the things they do. It is kind of hard to truly judge someone until you put yourself in their shoes. Everyone that does something evil does not just do it out of the blue. Something causes them to just want to be hurtful to other people. Some one that is evil has to have little to no morals. • 12. 2004 Election Case Study The main goal of this article was to evaluate how voters participated on the internet during the 2004 election. Unlike previous years, the 2004 election saw an increase in voter participation amongst the younger crowd. One of the contributing factors to this increase was the Internet. The internet as a whole has helped restructure how political campaigns are run and set forth a new objective: to gain the young vote. The problem was that young voters, when compared to older generations, were not as active in the presidential campaigns and lacked the motivation to participate. The solution to this problem was to redefine how the internetconnected with the voters and to encourage involvement with the campaign itself. The traditional television ... Lab Report On Ascorbic Acid Introduction Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient used for the creation of certain biological compounds and is naturally found in citrus fruits. 1 Ascorbic acid has a chemical formula of C¬¬6H8O6 and reacts with Iodine to cause the reaction:2 C6H8O6(aq) + I2(aq) C6H6O6aq) +2IВ¬ (aq) + 2H+ To determine the amount of vitamin C an amount of KIO3 solution with a known concentration had it s iodine freed with the chemicals KI and H2S04, this allowed the iodine to react with the dissolved vitamin C tablet. This was then titrated against a primary standard of sodium thiosulfate at a concentration of 0.01102*10 5¬¬M. These chemicals cause the following reactions3: KIO3(aq) + 5KI(aq) +3H2SOВ¬4(aq) 3I2(aq) + 3K2SO4(aq) + 3H2O(l) 2Na2S2O3(aq) + I2(aq) 2NaI(aq) + Na2S4O6(aq) Since the volume of KIO3 solution and so is the molarity we can determine the amount of KIO3 solution that was freed. We can then compare that to the amount of primary standard used to determine the amount of Ascorbic acid in the solution. Procedure The procedure given in the First Year ChemistryLab Manual for Experiment G4 was followed with the modifications below. Instead of using a 500mL volumetric flask a 1L volumetric flask was used. This made calculations that required Liters (L) easier as the numbers could be carried without doing any math. False Perception Paper False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an obvious causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media to produce predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of reporting on the relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising crime rates (dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in his article on the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I think single mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology from the conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). Introduction: This literature review will make use of four pieces of academic work to discuss how the concept of culture can intrinsically affect leadership. The literature finds that the link between culture and leadership is an important, yet complicated relationship. I will begin by discussing and defining the central concepts of culture and leadership. I will then explain and analyse the significance of culture upon leadership. Finally I will review Hofstede s cultural framework to assess its significance and relevance to the topic at hand. Culture: To begin, culture is a phenomenon that carries multiple definitions. Indeed, it is not inaccurate to say that cultural sensitivity is the most important trait for leaders to have, given the globalisation of our modern world (Wharton University, 1999). The idea of culture being the central idealism as to why leaders act the way they do in certain environments is linked to Contingency Theory. This theory stipulates that a leader needs to be able to adapt to the context they face (King and Lawley, 2013). Hofstede s framework Geert Hofstede believed that national cultures were potentially homogenous with organisational cultures, and that national cultures could be quantitatively identified and compared (King and Lawley, 2013). Hofstede over a four year period carried out 116,000 morale surveys, from 72 countries, using IBM subsidiaries (Kirkman, Lowe and Gibson, 2006) and from his findings derived a four fold dimensional framework for measuring national cultures. His first dimension, Power Distance, is the extent to which people within a nation are accepting of the unequal distribution of power within institutions and organisations (Hofstede, 1980). This dimension also helps to explain the way in which leaders and subordinates interact and under what pretences (King and Lawley, 2013). His second dimension is Uncertainty Avoidance, which measures the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Pit and the Pendulum , uses the grand gothic setting of a torture chamber during the Spanish Inquisition that contains a mysterious pit, symbolizing how the absence of religion in the narrator s life makes him fear the unknown. Once the narrator discovers the pit, he is filled with dread at the thought of falling into it: Shaking in every limb, I groped my way back to the wall; resolving there to perish rather than risk the terrors of the wells, of which my imagination now pictured many in various positions about the dungeon (Poe 7). The narrator is a heretic, so he most likely does not accept the idea of life after death. He has likely imagined various fates. Each pit that he has imagined in the room represents a different fate, so he fears falling into them. In fact, the narrator fears falling into the pit more than any other torture inflicted upon him. Poe writes, Neither could I forget what I had read of these pits that the sudden extinction of life formed no part of their most horrible plan (7). Although the narrator does not know himself what will happen to him after death, but no doubt he has read about what happens to heretics after they die according to Christianity: they go to Hell, where they are tortured for eternity. While his body would die, his soul, the source of his life, would be trapped forever. If falling into the pit leads to this fate, the narrator would greatly fear it. • 30. Aristotle And Heidegger s Views On What A Human Or Beings... Aristotle and Heidegger have conflicting views on what a human or beings are. Although, there are some similarities to each of their set of ideas. Aristotle has a clear hierarchical framework classifying the differences between humans, animals, and plants. Heidegger opposes this strict definitions by discussing this idea of Dasein which states of being there. Although, their approaches to this topic are different with the types of question one asks and how they theorize about what is a being. There is key similarities that they discuss almost two thousand years apart. Aristotle and Heidegger are two philosophers that have tackled the enormous question, what is it to be a being? This paper discusses the two different approaches to defining this long standing question. Aristotle asks many what questions when talking about what is a living being. He discusses us as a specific type of animals and how it relates to animals, plants and nonliving things. There is an hierarchy when discussing the differences between these things. For instance, all living things can ensouled destructible mobile substances. This means, all living substances can die and their body can disintegrate when no soulis in them. The essential features of being an animal is that it has a soul but not a rational soul compared to a human being. As stated in Arwin and Fine (1996), An animal is a living item that has perception. • 31. Mary Anne Warren s Argument On The Legal Status Of Abortion Mary Anne Warren s argument on the legal status of abortion stands on a concrete understanding and realization of an individual s personhood. Now Mary Anne Warren s unyielding argument on the basis of personhood is that, If we assume that an entity is a person just because it happens to belong to our favored biological classification, we stand convicted of speciesism, close cousin to racism. There are properties that do qualify an entity as a person, but simply being human is not one of them (124). To first be able to argue why the abortionof a fetus is permissible she needs to give a clear distinction of what can be established a decisive factor of personhood. To distinguish a line between a fetus and a human and if abortion is to be morally permissible there needs to be an understanding of when this cut off between the two officially happens. In an example of the potential personhood and a right to life Mary Ann Warren uses a hypothetical scenario of a space explorer who lands on an unknown plant. While on this plant he encounters a race of aliens. Now since he is on another plant in the presence of these alien beings how should he act towards these beings. He must first determine if they have the capability of moralityor if it is acceptable to consume these aliens for food. To determine if these aliens are in fact part of a moral personhood maybe he can notice works of art, forms of tools, and communication. However, even without evidence of these things they could ... The final concern facing global and national security is state sponsored activities. These three concerns are the leading factors for cyber defense in global security. Cybercrime is on the rise across the globe as criminal organizations and likeminded actors gain easy access to skilled professionals and/or affordable commercial/free software. This type of crime is alluring and extremely lucrative due to low physical risk and very high rewards (Heickero, 2013). Another aspect of cybercrime is the theft of Intellectual Property (IP) and trade secrets. A great example of the theft of IP and impact is the study of CISCO versus Huawei routers and the growing takeover by China due to IP/Trade secret gains (Demchak, 2011). Though, the severity of IP is difficult to articulate due to the various intangible losses. A McAfee study shows that such crime plays a significant factor in trade balances, national income, and jobs which drastically impacts economic security (McAfee, 2014). States must also deal with cyber espionage, which is one of the most aggressive activities in cyberspace. Cyber espionage relates to both cybercrime and cyber warfare. Similar to the criminal theft of IP and trade secrets, cyber espionage is illicit access to confidential information held by government or other organizations. Dan Glickman at ShoWest Essay Dan Glickman at ShoWest LAS VEGAS Citing long term trends to offset short term dips, Dan Glickman, who became president and CEO of the MPAA in September, presented his first state of the industry address Tuesday at ShoWest 2005. Speaking to a crowded house of exhibitors and distributors at the Paris hotel in what he dubbed his maiden voyage to the annual convention, Glickman judged that the industry is healthy. We have had some growth this year not radical growth, but the trends are positive. While only one out of 10 films recoups its costs during its theatrical release, four out of 10 make money during their full life cycle. Although they are placed together at the beginning of the New Testament, the gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John differ from one another. Matthew and Luke begin with the accounts of Jesus conception and birth, while Mark and John introduce us to an older Jesusprophesized by John the Baptist. There is also a major difference between the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke versus that of John. The Sermon on the Mount was conducted on top a hill that overlooked a huge crowd that had gathered to listen to Jesus (Mt 5:1 2). Compared to the more private setting of the Last Supper, in which Jesus is gathered around a table with his disciples, the Sermon on the Mount renders a public account of Jesus. As a public figure, Jesus accommodated his teachings that day to refer to the human condition and the law. He gives the crowd a disclaimer at the very beginning when he mentions that he has not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it (Mt 5:17). He then goes on to advise the crowd on how to handle anger, adultery, divorce, oaths, retaliation, and enemies. In doing so, he relates each subject back to the law and explains a new point for each and how it fulfills God s overall commandment. An example of this is when he mentions how the law says that you are to love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but God commands that you pray for your prosecutors and love those who hate you (Mt 5:43 45). This further reinforces the point that the kingdom that Jesus preaches of is not achieved by following the world s rules, but only those of God. This example also correlates back to the passage in which Jesus washes the disciples feet. He lowers himself to the position of a servant in order to teach them a lesson of humility and ... Some of these aspects are state power, authority, class inequality, imperialism, and bureaucracy. Unlike rational legal authority, traditional authority is not codified in impersonal rules but is usually invested in a hereditary line or invested in a particular office by a higher power. Finally, charismatic authority rests on the appeal of leaders who claim allegiance because of the force of their extraordinary personalities. Weber does not feel that the power of a class is a very important issue. Weber feels that classes are only important, within the struggle for power, when they state they are part of their class in their actions. Classes, along with status groups, are just passive members in society. Only if a political party solely represents the class, then it becomes active. This unimportance of classes shows Weber s feelings that the economic issues within capitalism do not effect authority or the struggle for power. Imperialism, in Weber s mind, is not a matter of economics. He states that imperialism more of a political tool. It is used as a tool of prestige for the elites and way to promote nationalism among the masses. The idea of imperialism was around before capitalism, so it is natural to Weber to say that it could not have been created by capitalism. Imperialism did, however, appeal to all members of the ruling classes. It appeals to the prestige of the old elites and it is the source of money for the new elites; but the appeal of prestige is the more important factor to Weber. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is what many Muslim women across the globe have to experience each day. In my opinion these are the types of things that need more media coverage, even the NFL should speak publicly about. It is not fair that somebody is discriminated against because of the color of their skin, what religion they choose to follow, or how the live their life. In deciding what to compare or contrast, you will want to make sure that the items share points in common. Thus, the items compared are usually the same kind or class of thing, and in comparing and contrasting them, you essentially establish two or more categories, showing the differences or similarities between or among them. To support the thesis statement we should outline central paragraphs. вќ– Central paragraph organization: When you have decided whether to concentrate on comparison or contrast, you still must decide how to do it. You should organize your comparison or contrast by whichever method suits your material best. (Lindfors, 1999, p.247) Kindergarten is the place where children explore real experiences and know how world works. They start gradually to construct knowledge and transform their curiosities into thoughts and questions. Out Stealing Horses Analysis In the novel, Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson, a 67 year old man named Trond who lives in solitude in Norway reflects back on the summer of 1948 where several significant events changed his life. It follows his progression of growing up and starting to understand more about the people and surroundings that revolve around his life and how they ve shaped him into becoming a mature and wise man. Eventually, he realizes the truth that growing up is inevitable and accepts the fact that things will never be the same again. In Out Stealing Horses, Petterson uses the motif and imagery of water to show how Trond s familiarity and interactions with the river reflects his gradual process of maturing from a innocent boyinto a stronger man. As a young boy, Trond s interactions with water illustrates his innocence, showing his youthful behavior and preservation of innocence. Growing up, water has played a huge role in Trond s life; He would often go out, fishing for trout in the river (15) or riding logs down the river (15). These activities that Trond engages in reflects Trond s close bond with the river and how it brought out his adventurous and youthful behavior. The dynamic environment of the river and the never ending flow of water is symbolic of Trond s constant energetic youth. As a kid, Trond was always outside admiring the beauty of nature or out stealing horses, and the river provided him the opportunity to do that. In order to go out stealing horses, Trond had to row across the river (32), in which the river acted as the path or gateway that led Trond to his next adventure. In addition, the river also represents Trond s reluctance to change or grow out of his childhood. Trond recalls, I could immerse myself in water up to my chin and remain the person I was (101). This highlights the idea that the river is a comfort zone in which Trond is able to submerge himself in and stay youthful. Trond doesn t want to grow out of his childhood and the river protects his innocence. • 44. Racism And Racism In Othello Race plays an important role in William Shakespeare s Othello: an intense tragedy of an admired military general, who is driven to kill his wife and himself out of jealously. Othello is of Black African descent, which separates him from many in his Venetian world. Throughout the play, Othello s race is seen as a negative aspect of his character, which is used by the antagonist, Iago, as a weak point to initiate chaos. The play depicts racismand uses the influence of radicalized perspective to create a tragedy. Shakespeare created Othelloto be a great leader, a powerful and noble man, to defy Venetian societal views. He did so effectively through the development of varied interpersonal relationships, and how racism effects each of them. When Othello is first introduced into the play, the audience knows that he is a well respected leader. As the play continues, racist and non racist views become quite evident, which eventually effect the actions and ways Othello sees himself. Othello s wife, Desdemona, is a young Caucasian woman, who recognizes Othello for his true self, not his race. She admires the dangers that [he] had passed (1.3.193. Shakespeare, William. Othello), and his abilities as a valiant leader. Desdemona knows that her inter racial marriage is not common, or widely approved of, yet she continues to trumpet to the world (1.3.285. Shakespeare, Othello) her love for him. Her unwavering devotion to Othello is a critical detail because she stays true to her feelings in a world where she is surrounded by discrimination towards Othello. Before Iago approaches Desdemona s father, Brabantio, about their marriage, Othello expresses that [Desdemona s] father loved [him] (1.3.149. Shakespeare, Othello), and often invited him into their home (1.3.149. Shakespeare, Othello). These examples of characters from the play and their non racist views of Othello prove that Othello is a play that illustrates racism, not a play meant to offend and segregate against people of colour. Many critics of Othello have suggested that Shakespeare wrote a racist play, and that Shakespeare himself wanted to convince others that even a black man in Venetian society will eventually revert to his violent and animal like ways ... The Liberals were by far the most unique of these three groups because were prepared to disregard standard traditions to get to a more contemporary way of practicing their faith. One way they did this was in the way they looked at scripture. When reading Scripture, they did not see it as inspired in the same way that other groups did. Typically, across denominations, most everyone views scripture with the most authority because it is God s Word and they believe that the text is directly from God s mouth, but the Liberals didn t see it that way. It consists of the function words in the language such as definite markers. The inflection of a definite marker, in other words, definiteness, distinguishes a nominal phrase (NP) between identifiable and non identifiable. That is, whether or not, a referent is identifiable or previously introduced in the discourse. In addition to identifiability, definiteness is expected to incorporate other notion,... Dryer (2013) classifies definiteness into five categories. The first type is the languages in which definite article are independent, and are distinct from demonstrative words. This type is used commonly in Western European, Oceanic and Mesoamerican languages (Dryer, 2013; Schroeder, 2006). English is categorized in this type of languages. In English, the grammatical element is encoded with regard to a contrast between a definite article the, and indefinite articles a/an in the language. The type of noun (count versus mass) is also a factor: indefinite mass nouns and indefinite plural countable nouns can appear without articles, i.e. as bare nouns. Furthermore, other determiners in English are consist of demonstratives, possessives, quantifiers, and cardinal numbers, some of which are definite and indefinite. The distribution of articles in English is presented in (1). Examples involving singular count nouns are illustrated in (2). Note that these singular count nouns cannot be bare, as illustrated in (2e). • 50. What Is Bfoq And List To Which Characteristics It Applies Leslie Lopez Employment Law HRM320 Week 3 Homework 9/15/2015 1. Define BFOQ and list to which characteristics it applies Bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) requires a person of specific race, gender, national origin, religion or color to be hired for certain positions or roles. These qualifications are considered when employers are making decisions for hiring for a certain role in theatre, motion picture, and television (Moran, 2014). To not be considered discriminatory, the BFOQ must be reasonably necessary to the operation of the business. For example an airplane pilot must have good eye sight since it is integral to carry out the duties of a pilot s job, a religious school might seek out employees who are of that certain ... • 51. Lending Tree Home Loans And Home Loan Lenders Lending Tree portends to act as an online conciliator between individuals looking for home loans and home loan lenders. The premise is that by connecting several lenders with the client, or rather making several lenders aware of a potential customer, that the loan with the best interest rate will rise to the top of the stack. Lending Tree claims to offer debtconsolidation and to lower one s monthly interestrates. The company s advertising campaign seems to suggest that Lending Tree will act as a negotiator for the client, urging banks to compete for your business. While this is not exactly the case, using the site essentially amounts to shopping around for a better deal which, of course, is better than buying on impulse. Lending Tree Home Loans takes your information, including your financial goals, and runs a credit check. At this point the service submits this information to a number of lenders. This is meant to create the impression that banks are competing for your business, when in fact the client is only receiving basic service offers from lenders who have been made aware of her or him by Lending Tree. Many customers have had the experience of receiving offers from lenders during non business hours within minutes of submitting their query. This is suspicious, as it seems clear that in these cases Lending Tree has acted as little more than an advertising service for the lenders. This would mean that Lending Tree s real clientele are the lending firms, who are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. User Interface And Its Usability User Interface and its usability Brief/Introduction User interface means the interaction between a user and a computer system and how well they co operate and understand each other and make it satisfying for the users to use the system. One main function for the user interface usability is to have characteristics. In this main function, there are eight characteristics to user interface usability and they are clear, concise, familiar, responsive, consistent, attractive, efficient and forgiving. Clear The word clear is very important on the user interface. It means that it needs to be easy for the user to use the system and understand what it is. If it s explained too much, the user will have to spend time reading and get bored of it. Another word you can use instead of concise is clarity. One of the good examples of websites that use concise user interface is Google maps. It shows every place clearly and it is efficient to use. https:/ /www.google.co.nz/maps/@ 43.5084463,172.5754581,18z пѓџ I used this website link shown here where I use snip tool to snip the same place and zoom out more and snip again to see what the difference is. This image on the right shows the map of Burnside High School and the places around it and I snipped it in maps version rather than satellite version because it is much easier to see the names and its organized. This image has lots of detailed information on each place and each road has names. This second image is the same place but I zoom out. It shows less detail than the previous image. On the first image of Google maps, it showed Aurora centre which is part of Burnside high school but on the 2nd image there is only school name shown and a little bit more important places around it. This 3rd image of Google maps shown on the right side of this word document is the same place but I zoom out even more than the 2nd image and there is a big difference. Because there are more places, it is not possible to fit all the information in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, solids and oil contents are removed from the boiled stock to obtain a stock solution and this stock solution is supplied to a decomposition tank to treat it by enzyme decomposition. In the aforementioned enzyme decomposition step, enzyme decomposition may be carried out by adding one or more than two protein decomposing enzyme, fat decomposing enzyme and the like to the stock solution in the decomposition tank. A preferred decomposing enzyme used in the decomposition tank is a bacterial protein decomposing enzyme, such as NEOVITALASE SUPER (which is a trade name manufactured by Towa Koso in Japan). With the use of the aforementioned enzyme, gelatin and protein are rapidly decomposed in the stock solution, and a separation operation in a filter can easily be carried out. Enzyme decomposition in the decomposition tank is carried out by increasing a temperature of the stock solution to about 50В° 60В° C., and keeping it for about 30 minutes to 3 hours, preferably 1 2 hours, and after decomposition, the temperature is raised to higher than 95В° C. to deactivate the decomposing enzyme. The stock solution enzyme decomposed as described above is separated into a solid content and a liquid content and then the separated liquid content is filtered to form a clarified liquid. ...
