Online Education And Its Impact On College Students
Throughout the past decade, technology has advanced swiftly and significantly. The effects of such
advancements can be seen from the way that people keep in touch through social media, to the way
that people check out their groceries through self checkout lanes. It is only natural that the spread of
technology would eventually reach the educational level. To keep up with the changing times, online
schooling institutions have entered the educational arena. These institutions have produced many
bright students and college graduates; however, there is an abundance of critics who do not see the
validity of such schools. Contrary to the critics thoughts, online school is a valuable, legitimate option
that prepares students for success while remaining flexible. As online education rises in popularity, the
amount of educated individuals will also grow.
Online education fits in with college students ever changing lives. College students are amongst some
of the busiest people; therefore, it can be a challenge to create a school schedule that fits in with other
responsibilities. A flexible schedule is essential for these students academic success. Online education
provides the flexible schedule that is necessary for students to learn at a time that works for them,
when they are most productive. Having the ability to learn and complete coursework at any time of the
day enhances the educational experience. Furthermore, online schooling is a great option for students
who move often,

From Slow Learner To
Brilliant Brain Surgeon
THINK BIG YOU VE GOT TO UNLEASH YOUR POTENTIAL
Coming from a broken home in Detroit, Michigan, Ben Carson developed a terrible hot temper along
with severe low self esteem at a very young age. He was just another kid trying to survive. His
possibility for a decent future didn t look good. The deck was definitely stacked against him.
Remember though, that in America, it doesn t matter what cards you are dealt, it only matters how you
play the hand, and the Carson family managed to play their hand quite well. Today, Dr. Benjamin S.
Carson, Sr. is the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery of the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore,
Maryland as well as one of the world s top brain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Never again was he to be teased as the stupidest kid.
Hard and long hours of study awarded Carson a scholarship to Yale University. He continued his
studies at the University of Michigan Medical School where he studied neurosurgery. After
graduating, he moved on to Johns Hopkins University where he later worked his way up to Director of
Pediatric Surgery. At age 32, he became the youngest surgeon in the nation to hold that distinguished
title.
Dr. Carson s profession awards him the opportunity to work with the families of children who have
horrible brain tumors or other neurological conditions. He performs over 500 critical operations on
children in dire need each year, which is over triple the average neurosurgeon s caseload.
It was in 1987 that Carson was thrust into the worldwide spotlight. After months of preparation, Dr.
Carson led his team in a grueling operation on the Binder Siamese twins who were both connected at
the back of the head. The operation was successful.
When asked how he stays focused? It s a matter of constantly being in the correct state of mind. The
first thing I do is pray. Then I read from the Bible, the book of Proverbs, which has an enormous
amount of wisdom. Just give me wisdom to know what to do and what not to do, states our humble
physician.
Dr. Carson shares his wisdom in his two outstanding books, Gifted Hands and Think Big. He has also
been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Horatio Alger Award, the

Exploitation and Societal Reorganization
Karl Marx and Mary Wollstonecraft are both philosophers who have observed the relationships
between ruling and ruled classes of people. In Marx s text Capital he discusses how there must exist a
bourgeois class that exploits a class of proletarians in order for capitalism to exist. Mary
Wollstonecraft in her work A Vindication of the Rights of Woman argues that a patriarchal society in
which women are forced to depend on men for every aspect of their lives is exploitation and
detrimental to everyone involved. A concept that is shared between these two works is that a society
that depends on the domination and exploitation of a class will naturally reorganize into a society that
has a balance between classes.
The exploitation of workers by capitalists is necessary for a capitalist society to exist properly. When
viewing the relations between members of a capitalist society as individuals, it can seem that
capitalism is based on freedom and equality. The proletariat class, or those who do not own any means
of production, sell their labor power to the bourgeoisie, or capitalists. The proletariats are free to sell
their labor power to whichever industry they choose, and will be compensated fairly for their work in
the form of wages. This concept of labor power is an integral part of Marx s argument about
capitalism. He explains that labor power is the mental and

Nitric Oxide Response Paper
Nitric Oxide is a gas produced naturally by the body that plays an important role in blood pressure and
circulation and is one of the most potent dilators there is. A growing supplement industry and interest
in resistance training has led to the creation of Pump supplements : nitric oxide supplements marketed
for resistance exercise as a way to increase vascularity and enhance performance in skeletal muscle.
Instead of nitric oxide, the supplements contain arginine, a precursor to NO in the body, and nitrates.
The goal of these supplements is to promote blood flow to muscle by increasing vasodilation and
improving skeletal muscles ability to respond to exercise. Supplement retailers promote claims that
nitric oxide supplements promote recovery rates and enhance endurance performance . Research on
these supplements is limited as they are relatively new, but results on the supplements effectiveness

(2014) may have observed positive effects on performance because it utilized endurance exercise and
continued to exhaustion. The first two studies mentioned used isolation resistance exercises and a
relatively low number of repetitions. Both theorized that had the subjects performed fatigue inducing
resistance exercise or endurance exercise benefits to supplementation might have been seen. Kelly et
al. (2014) noted that in conditions of normoxia they did not observe effects of supplementation on
exercise. Alvares et al. (2012) and Haider and Folland (2014) used a relatively low number of
repetitions and may not have induced hypoxia in subjects during the trials. Trials designed with more
repetitions and aimed at reaching muscle fatigue would be good next steps in studying potential
benefits of nitrate and arginine supplementation for training. Haider and Folland even theorized that
besides an increase in blood delivery to muscle and changes in calcium sensitivity of cross bridges
could be caused by nitrate

Allegory Of A Cave
In Allegory of a Cave , Plato has the reader imagine a cave in which people are confined to only being
able to look at the walls. In this cave, they can see shadows which are the extent to their knowledge of
the outside world. He explains how to them this is their world and what they see and hear is all that
they can know, so he then explains how if one man were to escape he will be able to truly see how
great the world actually is. Moreover, as he returns to the cave everyone else calls him a liar
convinced that their reality is real. This allegory shows how there is a battle between what is truth and
what is fantasy and one has to be able to learn how to decipher between them. When considering

Termite Color
During the lab of testing whether the color of a pen will affect the movement of a termite, it was
discovered that termites are more likely to follow a black and purple pen, rather than a red, blue, or
green pen. It was hypothesized that if a blue, red, black , purple, and green pen were used, then the
termite would follow the black pen because of it s comparable scent of that of pheromones. This was
proven correct based on the data and graph. Also the purple pen had pheromones in it s scent like the
black pen, concluding that only black and purple pens contain pheromones. But, the purple pen
resulted in a much slower travel time from the termite. Approximately 15.83 average seconds were
trimmed off from the black and purple pen. These results can be due to the black and purples
containing properties that the red, blue, and green pens do not. According to Chemistry World, pens
contain pigments...pH modifiers, humectants to retard premature drying, polymeric resins, wetting
agents such as surfactants to control surface properties, biocides to inhibit the fungal and bacterial
growth that lead to fouling, and thickeners or rheology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It wasn t valid due to the improper lighting conditions in the room, the pen ink drying out, and
sometimes the misstart of the stopwatch. The lighting is problematic because it irritates the termites,
making them uncomfortable, and potentially causing them not pick up the scent of the pheromones
and follow the lines. Over time the pen ink drys up causing the pheromone smell to fade away, making
it hard for the termite to pick up the pheromones and traveling slower or less. Lastly, the stopwatch
not being completely accurate can account for missing 2 seconds for the data, table, and graph. In
conclusion, black and purple pens contain the scent pheromones, that attract termites, allowing them
to follow the trail due to their

Dances With Wolves Essay
Dances With Wolves
No matter how you choose to categorize human beings, whether by race or religion, nationality or
gender, the resultant categories will display at least one immutable constant. Each group, no matter
how diverse their beliefs or how dissimilar their behaviors, will contain men of honest and peaceful
natures as well as men of divisive and violent natures. In the film Dances With Wolves, we are
exposed to two distinct categories of people inhabiting post civil war America, the white man and the
Native American. We, most likely, begin the movie with defined ideas as to which group contains
honest, peaceful men and which group contains violent and savage men. We are, however, exposed to
behaviors which are in opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, compassionate, thinking white men are definitely in the minority in this film.
When John begins his Westward move, the crude, maniacal white man makes his reappearance. The
officer who gives John the information about getting to his new post appears to be downright insane
and apparently kills himself. The guide who accompanies John to his post is also no prize. John refers
to him as the foulest man alive (Dances with Wolves). This constant exposure to the violent and crude
men who make up the white race is an effective first step in shifting our sympathies. We want to
distance ourselves from these shameful characters. We don t want to identify with them.
Our first exposure to Indians is a mere suggestion of the expected stereotype. We are shown a skeleton
on the ground with an arrow stuck through it. So far so good. We are accustomed to that image.
Dunbar s guide states that Indians are nothin but thieves and beggars and that you only want to see
them when they are dead (Dances with Wolves). He, of course, is such an exemplary man that it s not
ironic at all to hear him degrading someone else.
From the beginning of the film we are given hints that Dunbar is not like his fellow ugly Americans.
When John and his guide arrive at the deserted Fort, the guide is in a hurry to be away. He is nervous
and uncomfortable and thinks nothing of leaving without accomplishing what he was sent to do.

Sacred Heart College s Year 12 Biology Class
Wednesday 18 February 2015, Sacred Heart College s Year 12 biology class took a field trip to Siren s
Rock , located between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay on Wellington s South Coast. The pattern which
was being investigated across the rocky shore was zonation. Zonation is a community pattern that
occurs along an environmental gradient and is caused by the change in an environmental factor
changing the distribution of species which results in species being present in zones or bands. This
report will focus on the relationship between, and how this affects the zonation pattern on the shore of,
the two species Cellana denticulata; commonly known as the Denticulate Limpet, and Syprachiton
pelliserpentis; the Snakeskin Chiton. Cellana denticulata The first species studied was the Cellana
denticulata. This species is a true limpet from the marine gastropod mollusc group and is the most
commonly found on Siren s Rock. Denticulate limpets have a cone shaped shell which is covered in
ridges to increase the surface area to radiate heat therefore increase cooling for the organism. It grips
to rocks with its fleshy, muscular foot, and also grinds the edge of their shell into the rock so they fit
perfectly together. In order to avoid dessication, the limpets pull down their shell and clamp over a
pocket of water while still submerged so they can retain the water during low tide. C. denticulata are
also homing limpets; this means that they have a specific home mark which they live at and

Positive And Negative Effects Of Cars
Automobiles brought more positive and negative effects than any other invention in the history of
transportation. Although the transportation industry may be revolutionized within the next few
decades, cars stand out as the single most used transportation method. Cars affected not only
American society but all societies in incomparable ways they changed life at home, the economy, the
environment, and even people s love lives. Since their invention, automobiles have changed the way
society functions as well as having greatly impacted America s economy.
J. Frank and Charles Duryea designed the first American automobile in 1893. He sold them at $650
about $16,000 today making them cheap and accessible. Car makers were faced with the dilemma of
balancing the quality of the car and its price. They had to figure out a way to make a car with materials
they could afford to sell for price that would create enough revenue to keep their business afloat. The
car industry grew immensely, and by 1913 the United States produced 485,000 of 600,000 vehicles
produced in the world. By 1920, cars were supremely important to the petroleum industry and became
the biggest customer of the steel industry. The large demand for higher quality cars greatly accelerated
their improvement. In just 20 years, cars had self starters, a closed frame made entirely of steel, a high
compression engine, hydraulic brakes, synchromesh transmissions, and low pressure balloon tires.
These changes made cars look

Use of Customs, Dialect and Social Status
In The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County
Mark Twain s The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County is a short story with the lesson that
what goes around comes around. In this short story, which first appeared in 1856 and his first
successful story, Twain uses local customs of the time, dialect, and examples of social status in his
story to create a realistic view of the region in which the story takes place. The way that the characters
behave is very distinctive. Dialect is also used to give the reader a convincing impression of the

Twain uses local dialect throughout the story. Dialect enhances the story by painting a picture of the
surroundings, giving a deeper understanding of the characters and adding local color. The following
quotes show Twain s main purpose is using dialect, which is to emphasize the rural feel of the story s
setting. On page 1189 the narrator says He was always ready and laying for a chance; there couldn t be
no solit ry thing mentioned but that feller d offer to bet on it, and take ary side you please, as I was just

influence to the wine industry did create many benefits to the consumers but a long with it some
controversies. (Appendix 1)
3) Is Chateau Margaux a luxury brand or a connoisseur s brand? Definitely, a connoisseur s brand
because their high quality wine is treasured by those who really understand wine. These are repeating
customers with high brand loyalty. On the other hand, luxury customers are more likely to switch from
product to product. Luxury customers also buy luxury wine on only special occasion; therefore they
are not repeating customers.
4) Should Chateau Margaux extend the product line?
From our group opinion we think that Chateau Margaux should not extend its product line. Chateau
Margaux is connoisseur brand which has limited brand awareness and limited target group, which is
the strong part that keeps Chateau Margaux stands on top rank wine in consumer mind. Extend the
product line of Chateau Margaux could cause wrong perception among consumers. Moreover the
product quality control for Chateau Margaux is highly strict and limited, so to add more product line
on its regular basis production can cause the average quality of entire product drop down as well.

Sunset Boulevard Essay
A fragment of life in Hollywood is being spread over the screen of the Music Hall in Sunset
Boulevard. Utilizing as the premise of their forthcoming, burning dramatization a shameful
circumstance including a blurred, maturing quiet screen star and a destitute, pessimistic youthful
scriptwriter, Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder (with an aid from D. M. Marshman, Jr.) have
composed an effective story of the aspirations and disappointments that join to make life in the
cardboard city so entrancing to the outside world.
Sunset Boulevard is in no way, shape or form an adjusted story of Hollywood, past or present. Be that
as it may it is such a cunning compound of truth and legend and is so lavishly fragrant of the past, yet
so contemporaneous that it apparently talks with extraordinary power. Sunset Boulevard is that
uncommon mix of impactful composition, master acting, excellent course, and inconspicuously
aesthetic photography which rapidly does magic over a crowd of people and holds it excited to a

Slavery Essay
In the 1700 s and 1800 s, the planter elite class of the American South conspired with both federal and
state governments and other whites to institutionalize slavery in order to protect their economic and
social power and way of life. Their efforts were generally wide spread, simple, blatant and generally
very effective. At the federal level, southerners in the House of Representatives, who were often
controlled and funded by the planter elites, won approval of James Madison s resolution which
declared that Congress ha[s] no authority to interfere in the emancipation of slaves, or in the treatment
of them within any of the States. (Edwards, Henretta, Hinderaker, Self). This resolution ... Show more

This is something they were also very effective at doing. Laws like the Alabama Slave Code of 1852
not only required all whites to patrol plantations so slaves did not escape, they also prohibited slaves
from travelling without their masters, from carrying any kind of weapon, from owning property and
from gathering in groups larger than five (Primary Source Packet). Most any violation of the Code
resulted in branding, whipping or death. These regulations prevented slaves from ever gaining power,
defending themselves or trying to organize or rebel against slavery. They also helped the elites control
poor yeomen whites by giving them jobs, minor government positions and rewards for patrolling and
capturing escaped slaves. The Plantation Slave Roles also incentivized slaves to follow authority even
if it meant hiding their beliefs and emotions or even beating or whipping other slaves (Primary Source
Packet). The Roles effectively helped the planter elites institutionalize slavery with the help of slaves.
The planter elite class relied on slavery in order to protect their economic way of life. They used their
wealth and power to ensure that the northern states and federal government did not interfere with
slavery in the south. The elites similarly used their wealth and power to establish local and state laws
to prevent slaves from gaining power or rebelling, and they also incentivized poor whites to support
slavery by rewarding with money, jobs and minor government positions. All of these actions
effectively institutionalized slavery and preserved the wealth and power of the planter

The 1930 s saw a huge fight for power, among European nation states with Germany rising to pre

Throughout the first four centuries, Christianity began to plant its roots and establish itself as a
legitimate religious presence. However, just as the Christians battled other religious presences over
what are correct teachings and practices, they also were prompted by the Roman Empire to conform or

triggered different responses from the Christians. The persecutions of Christians occurred over a span
of ten Roman Emperors and about three hundred years. Thus, over the years of persecution, numerous

Charles S. Pierce
Charles S. Pierce discusses how logic should be our guide to making our ideas clear. He starts by
defining the differences between clear and obscure conceptions a clear conception being once that will
not be mistaken for another and an obscure one being one that fails to provide such clearness. He also
touches on distinct and confused ideas. A distinct idea would be that which contains nothing obscure
or as Pierce calls it clearness in the first grade. Pierce leads us to analyze the value of clarity he is
referring to mentioning how in some cases it may be too strong or too weak. Descartes, through his
work on self consciousness was led to understand that since not all ideas are true they must then be
clear but never noticed if they only seemed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He calls on how doubt incites action, which leads to belief. In his example of how he would decide
how to pay for his horse car fare referring to how his doubt arises from momentary indecision and his
decision in the end will become a belief he will later use. He uses another example of him waiting in
the railway and analyzing the different routes he could take as how doubt can sometimes be
intentional as well but nevertheless it always leads to belief. Belief is a very strong weapon, which
Pierce, certainly attains much power to in making our ideas clear. Even as he mentions it may take
years to achieve, once achieved it will stick with us. He also brings into attention consciousness,
which can be immediate or mediate. He relates this to music and how we are immediately conscious
of the notes while mediately conscious of the melody just like sensations are like notes and our
thoughts like the melody. We must be aware of the difference between sensations and thoughts in
order to fully understand the concept of belief. He states belief has three properties, it is something we
are aware of, something that settles doubt and it results in a

I Want To Be Miss America Essay
Life is a never ending sequence of problems. Every person has to learn to overcome them throughout
his or her life to better themselves. In the story, I Want to be Miss America, by Julia Alvarez, she tells
the story of how she and her sisters adapted to American style and culture. Her family came from the
Dominican Republic. At a young age, they watched the Miss America Beauty Pageant, which show
portrayed the ideal woman. So, the sisters changed their looks to appear like the women on the show.
It was not until the 1960 s that their previous Dominican style, became the new trend in America. In

Speech On Optimism
Jon Jusufi 8th grade
Sir Winston Churchill once said: A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees
the opportunity in every difficulty.
If I think I cannot do something, after a while I will not be capable of doing it. And vice versa if I truly
believe that I can do something, I will try my best to do it. And this is not only about actions we are
capable of doing or not. Most importantly, it is about what we think we are. If you are an optimist you
love your life and think of yourself and the others around you as great people. If you are a pessimist
you do not really care about who you are and you do not give your life a meaning. Optimism makes us
have dreams. Those dreams eventually turn into goals and to accomplish those goals we get
perseverant, we care about the people around us and we try to live a healthy live.
Optimism leads to perseverance. If we really believe that what we think is right, optimism us protect it

It is in human nature to work and live together with other people and to give a part of ourselves to the
others around us. Optimism is very important here because an optimist tries to make the world a better
place by making the people better people. Optimists help everyone in their community as much as
they can in every possible way. Sometimes people just need to hear some good words and that is what
optimists are great at. You have probably heard the story about the one bad apple that turned all the
good apples bad. Optimism is the exact opposite because one optimist has the power to make all the
people around him or her to see life from a positive point of view. This is one of my favorite things
about optimism because optimists do not only help themselves, they help the world. And by helping
the world they help themselves because the people that you once helped will help you achieve your

Regulatory Changes in Direct-To-Consumer Marketing of...
Direct to consumer (DTC) marketing of pharmaceuticals has grown increasingly in the past decade.
The American public views prescription drug advertising for a wide range of medical conditions,
including high cholesterol, depression, allergies, and erectile dysfunction. The Federal Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) regulates the content of these advertisements. Critics also have taken the
position that the advertisements garner unearned trust from the public, are misleading, and promote
unnecessary use of prescription drugs for common problems associated with aging. Proponents
counter that DTC ads help eliminate stigmas associated with certain medical conditions, give patients
an active role in their health care management, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third and most common type is the product claim ad, which mentions the product and its
indication and includes efficacy or safety claims. (Ventola, Toxic par 3). These types of ads proved to
be confusing and misleading for consumers. As Greene describes in Hidden in Plain Sight , Over the
course of the 1990s, resulting television and radio advertisements took on a surreal, disconnected
quality, exemplified by the division of marketing for Schering Plough s nonsedating antihistamine
Claritin (loratidine): one set of advertisements praised promising new developments in antiallergy
remedies but did not mention Claritin, while others featured the pill and its logo and promised blue
skies without explaining what, in therapeutic terms, that might mean. The FDA reacted to concerns
over confusing DTC prescription drug ads by issuing final guidance in 1999, which relaxed previous
regulations and redefined adequate provision of risks and benefits to include reference to a toll free
number or web site. (Greene, Hidden, par 34). The result of the relaxed regulations was an explosion
of DTC pharmaceutical advertising in broadcast media. DTC rulings would be relaxed yet again in
2004, which saw the removal of the requirement to include complete prescribing information, instead
requiring only a simplified brief summary. Ventola says this change allowed pharmaceutical
companies to present

Basic Order Picking In the most basic order picking method, product is stored in fixed locations on
static shelving or pallet rack. An order picker picks one order at a time following a route up and down
each aisle until the entire order is picked. The order picker will usually use some type of picking cart.
The design of the picking flow should be such that the order picker ends up fairly close to the original
starting point. The picking document should have the picks sorted in the same sequence as the picking
flow. Fast moving product should be stored close to the main cross aisle and additional cross aisles put
in to allow short cuts. Larger bulkier items would be stored towards the end of the pick flow. This
basic order picking method can work well in operations with a small total number of orders and a high
number of picks per order. Operations with low picks per order will find the travel time excessive in
this type of picking and operations with large numbers of orders will find that the congestion from
many pickers working in the same areas slows down the processing. Zone Picking Zone picking is the
order picking version of the assembly line. In zone picking, the picking area is broken up into
individual pick zones. Order pickers are assigned a specific zone, and only pick items within that

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cisc
There has always been an age old debate over the advantages and disadvantages of a Reduced
Instruction Set Computer(RISC) in contrast to its predecessor a Complex Instruction Set
Computer(CISC). These processors differ vastly in structure, methods of execution and usability.
RISC is a Central Processing Unit(CPU) design strategy that uses simpler, smaller instruction sets
resulting in faster performance speeds. It has an assembly language that is designed so that each task
is broken down into very simple instructions that are each executed once per clock cycle. In
comparison CISC is a CPU design strategy based on single instructions, which are capable of
performing multi step operations but unfortunately has a slower clock speed. The majority ... Show

In recent years, it has become very common to hear the words HLL (high level language) in any
computer environment. The only disadvantage with HLL is that computers are not able to understand
it, hence one must transform this language into something a computer can easily read and understand
i.e.) Machine Language. A compiler in CISC and RISC is simply a system software that transforms
HLL into machine code. It also performs diagnostics, for example error detection. RISC (Reduced
Instruction Set Computer) is a Central Processing Unit(CPU) design strategy that has an assembly
language that is designed so that each task is broken down into very simple instructions that are each

general purpose registers which allows any register to be used in any context. Within RISC, HLL
compilers can produce a far more efficient code due to its overall small set of instructions. The
performance of the RISC processors depends mostly on the compiler or programmer as the knowledge
of the compiler plays a major role while converting the CISC code to a RISC code; hence, the quality
of the generated code depends on the

Amanda Dickinson
AC 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
Syer Connolly (1996) describes a team system as a group of people who constitute a system of
interrelated entities and whose members share a common goal. They argue that team members need to
develop awareness of themselves and each other, and of their differences, through giving descriptive
feedback. This allows appreciation of differences, good contact and improved communication. Trust,
respect, team spirit and synergy may then emerge. Consequently this leads to a highly developed
awareness. The notion of a cycle more easily suggests the kind of continuous process that teams go
through and need to revisit as new members ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clarity of purpose increases but plenty of uncertainties persist. Cliques form and there may be conflict
and power struggles. The team needs to be focused on its goals to avoid becoming distracted by
relationships and emotional issues. Compromises may be required to enable progress. The leader
coaches.
Norming stage 3
Agreement and consensus is largely formed among the team, who respond well to facilitation by
leader. Roles and responsibilities are clear and accepted. Big decisions are made by group agreement.
Smaller decisions may be delegated to individuals or small teams within group. Commitment and
unity is strong. The team may engage in fun and social activities. The team discusses and develops its
processes and working style. There is general respect for the leader and some of leadership is more
shared by the team. The leader facilitates and enables.
Performing stage 4
The team is more strategically aware; the team knows clearly why it is doing what it is doing. The
team has a shared vision and is able to stand on its own feet with no interference or participation from
the leader. There is a focus on over achieving goals, and the team makes most of the decisions against
criteria agreed with the leader. The team has a high degree of autonomy. Disagreements occur but now
they are resolved within the team positively and necessary changes to processes and structure are

Analysis Of The Gods Must Be Crazy

achieve positive emotions, engagement in activities, good relationships with others, a sense of
meaning, and identifiable accomplishments in their lives. For starters, the Kalahari people demonstrate
positive emotions by being able to obtain food and water each day. Positive emotions are also felt by

If there weren t any good relationships with others, then the family would have no need to work
together or talk to each other. While the fourth letter of the acronym stands for a sense of meaning.
This is demonstrated through them completing tasks that help feed their family group. One example of
this is shown when the hunters in the group apologize to the deer for having to kill it and telling it that
they must feed their family. They also demonstrate a sense of meaning by showing younger members
of their family group how to get water through means such as squeezing the shavings of a tuba. This is
trying to ensure the survival of their family group not only in the present but in the future as well. The
final letter of the acronym stands for accomplishments in their lives. This is done through setting up a
goal to find water and laying out leaves the day beforehand to collect dew drops the following day. By
planning this out it allows for the people of the Kalahari to accomplish their goal of finding water in
their environment that has a scarce supply of it. Another goal of theirs that is set each day is finding
food. This Is accomplished by hunting and gathering. By being able to kill an animal, collect berries,
find tree roots, or catch bugs it will give these people a sense of accomplishment in their lives. The
biggest goal I believe they are accomplishing is being able to survive. We can see that they are being
able to accomplish this goal because

Essay on Arctic and Alpine Soils
Arctic and Alpine Soils
Proposal
(Ant)arctic (high latitude) and alpine (mountain) areas are affected by relatively similar climates, as
latitude and altitude produce similar meteorologic effects. In these geographic regions where
temperature is at such a pronounced extreme, climate would seem to be the leading factor of soil
development. It is my goal in this research paper to answer the following question: How do the soils
of arctic and alpine areas differ? This idea, taken largely from an abstract by Birkeland (1975), will be
explored through the comparison of the soils of these two geographic regions, and an analysis of the
soil development factors in those environments.

However inaccurate as Dokuchaev s generalization may be, a critique of his proposal provides an
excellent tool to examine and compare the soils of similar Arctic and Alpine regions.
Similarity in Arctic and Alpine Geographic Regions
There are pedologic cases in which one of the five soil forming factors established by Jenny (192?) is
so prominent and effectual that it outweighs the sum of all of the other factors, resulting in the
definition of different soil series almost wholly upon differences in that dominant soil forming factor.
For example, in the Carleton Arboretum, our Soils class found that the differences in soil series were
defined mostly on the basis of parent material. Most groups had a direct correlation between the
distribution of soil types and the distribution of parent materials.
In the case of Arctic and Alpine* soils, it is climate which largely outweighs all of the other soil
forming factors. As previously stated, the intense cold associated with high latitudes and high altitudes
separates Arctic and Alpine areas from other geographic regions of Earth. I believe that upon this basis
Dokuchaev made his analog between horizontal and vertical zonality of soils. Through an examination
of a number of Arctic and Alpine soils and the pedogeneses of such soils, I aim to expand and adjust
his hypothesis, as I feel he did not understand fully the complexity of Alpine

challenges once Britain officially exits the European Union. With the loss of support from Britain,
Germany will be expected to contribute more, which ultimately puts more of an economic strain on
the country. This will force the country to reevaluate the current economic structure and possibly lead
to the redistribution of funds. Germany already makes the largest net contribution to the EU each year

All together, Parameswaran s article is well researched as she refers to a variety of sources as she
transitions from one topic to the next. She cites information from many different sources to support
her overall stance but sometimes uses too many quotations. Although there is not a rule about how
many sources one should use in their academic writing, one can argue that Parameswaran s article is
mostly composed of source information, rather than composing her stance with her own voice.
Because the use of sources is overpowering, her writing becomes overwhelming for readers because
they are not getting the author s point of view on the issue. Parameswaran states that as students learn
about issues of discrimination, they begin to reexamine their values. At times, the reexamination leads
students who belong to dominant groups to feel guilty and accuse people who belong to
underrepresented groups of reverse racism (qtd. in Parameswaran 5). An example of a source
Parameswaran overuses is information from Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, a psychologist and author who
focuses on race in education, and expands on reverse racism. Tautm s book discusses how students
learn about Whites who were and/or are racists. Parameswaran reiterates Tatum s ideas by stating that
most students can name people who hold racist values, but cannot recall any White individuals who

The Theme of Incest in The Duchess of Malfi Essay
One can begin the discussion on the theme of incest in The Duchess of Malfi by understanding the
social conception of incest . Talcott Parsons says it is not so much the prohibition of incest in its
negative aspect(maintaining sexual relations) ...(Instead) Incest is withdrawal from the obligation to
contribute to the formation and maintenance of supra familial bonds on which major economic,
political and religious functions of the society are dependent.

It is due to this threat from the outside that Ferdinand takes up the posture of an incestuous brother
obsessed with the blood and body of his sister, and going to the extent of surreptitiously entering her
room.
Ferdinand s intentions are thus to control the sexuality of his sister and thereby, making her the vessel
of his honour. Whigham here rightly notes that Ferdinand s incest turns itself into a paranoia as he
does not stand satisfied with the duchess marriage within an equal status group but denies her any
form of marriage, or rather, contamination through sexual indulgence. The vulgar extent to which his
abnormality works is best seen when he suggests Count Malateste to his sister as her prospective
husband .Working with the play on his name (mal testes),he hints at the fact that an impotent husband
would not contaminate his sister s blood.
But after Ferdinand gets to know that his sister has realized his fears and has contaminated herself, his
incestuous rage steps up a level. His speech then borders on necrophilia Have her meat serv d up by
bawds and ruffians [4.i.123].
Ferdinand s interest now shifts to the dead body of his sister.
From now on one also sees Ferdinand s paranoia turning itself into lycanthropia. This madness can be

opened the Erie Canal, which connected the five Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. Northern states
like Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ohio also invested large amounts of money to build a network
of canals connecting the Mississippi to the Great Lakes. As a result s, water transportation was much
faster and cheaper. By 1827, wheat from central New York State could be bought for less money in
Savannah, Georgia, than wheat grown in Georgia. This apparently had a great influence upon New
York, stimulating the growth of economy. Such advantages for the North hurt the economies of
Southern states such as Georgia, as its prices were no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The South, like other slave based societies, did not construct urban centers for commerce, finance, and
industry on a scale rival with those found in the North. Southern cities, instead, were small as they
failed to develop diversified economies and rarely engaged in international trade. On the contrary,
southern cities primarily engaged in local trade. They marketed and transported cotton or other
agricultural crops, supplied local planters and farmers with such necessities as agricultural tools, and
produced manufactured goods, such as cotton gins, sold mostly to farmers. Southerners neglect
industry and transportation improvements, like the railroads and canals of New York and
Pennsylvania, due to the over reliance on slave based system. As a result, manufacturing and
transportation lagged far behind in comparison to the North . Despite falling further and further behind
in respect to economic growth, the south still managed to establish an aggressive sense of nationalism
that was entrenched in its belief of its distinguished character and its illusion about oppressing by
enemies (i.e. the North and blacks). The South began to consider itself more and more as the true
guardian of America s heritage. Southern tourists who ventured into the North viewed it as a alien and
remote land and

Dark They Were And Golden Eyed Essay
Why do the words that authors use in their writing help set the overall atmosphere of the story? In the
story, What Do Fish Have to Do With Anything, a young boy named Willie and his cautious mother,
who were abandoned by their father, come across a beggar, and Willie grows curious of his character,
thus leading him to question him. After a series of encounters, Willie learns that the homeless man was
not what he seemed, but a man of wisdom. In the story, Dark They Were, And Golden Eyed by Ray
Bradbury, a party of humans arrive in Mars and try to build their new lives there after an apocalypse
on the Earth. One of the humans, Harry Bittering, is skeptical about Mars and how living there may
not be the best idea. In both Dark They Were, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, after a family has arrived on an unfamiliar environment through a rocket, n the text, it
states, The wind blew, whining. At any moment the Martian air might draw his soul from him, as
marrow comes from a white bone. This means that a party of humans had reached some environment
that was unfamiliar because in the text we learn that the humans had emerged from a rocket that came
from Earth and that they were currently in a Martian setting. Further into the text, when the family is
told that they cannot return to their home, it states, For a long time there was only the sound of the
wind in the late afternoon. Alone, thought Bittering. Only a thousand of us here. No way back. No
way. No way. This text means that the humans who had approached Mars as their new home would be
forever lost there, and this is because in the text we learn that atom bombs hit New York, causing all
the space rockets to explode. This text also means that the silence that was roaming the family was
due to the fact that they were speechless because in the text we learn how that their old and favored
home was gone. This is important because it shows how the author chose to mention that the wind was
whining, how the martian air was threatening, and only the sound of the wind because he wanted to
lay out the mood of foreboding for the readers. Many of the decisions that the author made involving
the mood were to include several minor details that add to the reader s feelings and signal some
upcoming events in the

Greece And The European Union
1 Abstract: Purpose of the Research Tipping point may be defined as the critical point in a situation,
process or system beyond which a significant and often unstoppable effect or change takes place. In
this analysis, tipping point refers to the dilemma Greece faces. What are some of the questions the
Greek crisis in the Eurozone may raise? How did the Greek sovereign debt crisis begin? How will the
Greek crisis evolve? How will the crisis influence the future of European Union member states as well
as the Continent as a whole? How should citizens in European countries understand the crisis? My
research aims to: 1) understand Greece s situation in the Eurozone through an analysis of history and
economy; 2) explain the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.3 The Present Debt Crisis The Past 5 Years (Greece in the Eurozone)
Greece has suffered through a vicious circle of recession over the past five years. The Greek economy
experienced a series of successive setbacks during this period. Since 2010, the Greek economy
contracted more than 20%. The investment level decreased by 86 % as compared to 2008 (IMF,
2013b). The continuous drop in GDP, which in 2011 surpassed the historical maximum for the entire
postwar period, led to a rapid decline in domestic demand. Unemployment more than doubled within
the first three years of austerity reaching 25.4% in August 2012. More than half the population
between 15 24 years of age or 57%, is unemployed (Eurostat, 2012), homelessness increased by 25%
from 2009 to 2011 as suicide rates hit record levels, increasing 25% from 2009 2010 and an additional
40% from 2010 2011 (Reynolds, 2015). In early 2014, unemployment exceeded 28%; youth
unemployment rose to 63%, which led young, educated people to emigrate in large numbers (Visvizi,
2014). Greece s uncertain future remains a troubling predicament on the periphery of the European
Union.

Should We Celebrate Australia Day
Its January 26; what are you doing? Having a barbecue? Pool party? Down at the beach? While
everyone else in Australia is celebrating this day, that is called Australia Day, the original custodians
of our land are taking offence to the day we celebrate Australia Day on. Australia Day should be about
celebrating our wonderful country and having fun. Instead it is causing the indigenous people to
protest. We celebrate Australia Day on the 26 because it is the day a British flag was placed on
Australia. But why is that such an important day to celebrate? Many debates have been done about
whether the day should be changed or not but most of Australia doesn t want to change the day
because they don t see the point and aren t thinking about the indigenous people of our home land.
Celebrating Australia day on the 26 of January is offensive to the indigenous people of Australia.

This is disrespectful to the original owners of the land. They think it is too much effort to change a day
which is disrespecting the aboriginals Australians. Polls prove that 44.12% of people want the day
changed but 49.93% don t want it changed and another 5.95% don t care what happens. That adds up
to 55.88% of people not caring if Australia day is changed or think that it should not be are not taking
into consideration the people who have lived here for thousands of years before we did. Just under
half the percent of Australians do not want the day to change is because they are not considering the
people around them. The thought that some people in Australia aren t thinking about others because
they think changing a date will affect them too much but on that date they celebrate with barbecues
and parties. We have already changed the date before so why is it so hard to change

Some areas of first nations people in canada were Arctic, Subarctic, Northwest Coast, Plateau, Plains,
and the Eastern Woodland. In 1842 there were about 3727 first nations in Lower Canada that the
government knew about but that didn t include the Hunting Indians of the Northern Interior. By 1867
there were thought to be roughly 125,000 first nations including about 10,000 Metis in the west and
2,000 Inuit in the north. The population of the first nations were not stable. The aboriginal

Residential schools were purposely built farther away from first nation civilizations to reduce contact
with the first nations children and their families. Residential schools harmed children by forcing them
to leave their homes, not allowing them to use their native languages, and exposing many of them to
physical and sexual abuse. The residential schools forced the first nation children to speak only
english and french. The residential schools also left a permanent scar on first nations by causing post
traumatic stress Disorder, alcoholism, substance abuse, and even suicide. The parents and families of
the first nations children resisted the Residential schools. The families were forced to go into hiding
from the government officials rounding up the first nations children. When parents told the
government that the schools were abusing their children the government dismissed it as an excuse for
their children not to attend the schools when in fact the children were being abused. Children from the
ages of 7 to 16 were forced to attend the schools and children of all ages were abused. The first nation
children were abused by their very own teachers and administrators. The types of abuse the children
faced were physical and sexual assault, malnourishment, and harsh discipline that would never have
been allowed in normal schools back then. The schools were overcrowded, had poor sanitation,
insufficient heating, and a lack of medical

  • 3. Essay on think big From Slow Learner To Brilliant Brain Surgeon THINK BIG YOU VE GOT TO UNLEASH YOUR POTENTIAL Coming from a broken home in Detroit, Michigan, Ben Carson developed a terrible hot temper along with severe low self esteem at a very young age. He was just another kid trying to survive. His possibility for a decent future didn t look good. The deck was definitely stacked against him. Remember though, that in America, it doesn t matter what cards you are dealt, it only matters how you play the hand, and the Carson family managed to play their hand quite well. Today, Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr. is the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery of the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland as well as one of the world s top brain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Never again was he to be teased as the stupidest kid. Hard and long hours of study awarded Carson a scholarship to Yale University. He continued his studies at the University of Michigan Medical School where he studied neurosurgery. After graduating, he moved on to Johns Hopkins University where he later worked his way up to Director of Pediatric Surgery. At age 32, he became the youngest surgeon in the nation to hold that distinguished title. Dr. Carson s profession awards him the opportunity to work with the families of children who have horrible brain tumors or other neurological conditions. He performs over 500 critical operations on children in dire need each year, which is over triple the average neurosurgeon s caseload. It was in 1987 that Carson was thrust into the worldwide spotlight. After months of preparation, Dr. Carson led his team in a grueling operation on the Binder Siamese twins who were both connected at the back of the head. The operation was successful. When asked how he stays focused? It s a matter of constantly being in the correct state of mind. The first thing I do is pray. Then I read from the Bible, the book of Proverbs, which has an enormous amount of wisdom. Just give me wisdom to know what to do and what not to do, states our humble physician. Dr. Carson shares his wisdom in his two outstanding books, Gifted Hands and Think Big. He has also been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Horatio Alger Award, the ... • 4. Exploitation And Societal Reorganization Of Karl Marx And... Sabrina Gibson Honors Mosaics II Professor Smetona 09 November 2015 Exploitation and Societal Reorganization Karl Marx and Mary Wollstonecraft are both philosophers who have observed the relationships between ruling and ruled classes of people. In Marx s text Capital he discusses how there must exist a bourgeois class that exploits a class of proletarians in order for capitalism to exist. Mary Wollstonecraft in her work A Vindication of the Rights of Woman argues that a patriarchal society in which women are forced to depend on men for every aspect of their lives is exploitation and detrimental to everyone involved. A concept that is shared between these two works is that a society that depends on the domination and exploitation of a class will naturally reorganize into a society that has a balance between classes. The exploitation of workers by capitalists is necessary for a capitalist society to exist properly. When viewing the relations between members of a capitalist society as individuals, it can seem that capitalism is based on freedom and equality. The proletariat class, or those who do not own any means of production, sell their labor power to the bourgeoisie, or capitalists. The proletariats are free to sell their labor power to whichever industry they choose, and will be compensated fairly for their work in the form of wages. This concept of labor power is an integral part of Marx s argument about capitalism. He explains that labor power is the mental and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A growing supplement industry and interest in resistance training has led to the creation of Pump supplements : nitric oxide supplements marketed for resistance exercise as a way to increase vascularity and enhance performance in skeletal muscle. Instead of nitric oxide, the supplements contain arginine, a precursor to NO in the body, and nitrates. The goal of these supplements is to promote blood flow to muscle by increasing vasodilation and improving skeletal muscles ability to respond to exercise. Supplement retailers promote claims that nitric oxide supplements promote recovery rates and enhance endurance performance . In this cave, they can see shadows which are the extent to their knowledge of the outside world. Moreover, as he returns to the cave everyone else calls him a liar convinced that their reality is real. • 7. Termite Color During the lab of testing whether the color of a pen will affect the movement of a termite, it was discovered that termites are more likely to follow a black and purple pen, rather than a red, blue, or green pen. It was hypothesized that if a blue, red, black , purple, and green pen were used, then the termite would follow the black pen because of it s comparable scent of that of pheromones. This was proven correct based on the data and graph. Also the purple pen had pheromones in it s scent like the black pen, concluding that only black and purple pens contain pheromones. But, the purple pen resulted in a much slower travel time from the termite. Approximately 15.83 average seconds were trimmed off from the black and purple pen. These results can be due to the black and purples containing properties that the red, blue, and green pens do not. According to Chemistry World, pens contain pigments...pH modifiers, humectants to retard premature drying, polymeric resins, wetting agents such as surfactants to control surface properties, biocides to inhibit the fungal and bacterial growth that lead to fouling, and thickeners or rheology ... The lighting is problematic because it irritates the termites, making them uncomfortable, and potentially causing them not pick up the scent of the pheromones and follow the lines. Over time the pen ink drys up causing the pheromone smell to fade away, making it hard for the termite to pick up the pheromones and traveling slower or less. Lastly, the stopwatch not being completely accurate can account for missing 2 seconds for the data, table, and graph. In conclusion, black and purple pens contain the scent pheromones, that attract termites, allowing them to follow the trail due to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Dances With Wolves Essay Dances With Wolves No matter how you choose to categorize human beings, whether by race or religion, nationality or gender, the resultant categories will display at least one immutable constant. Each group, no matter how diverse their beliefs or how dissimilar their behaviors, will contain men of honest and peaceful natures as well as men of divisive and violent natures. In the film Dances With Wolves, we are exposed to two distinct categories of people inhabiting post civil war America, the white man and the Native American. We, most likely, begin the movie with defined ideas as to which group contains honest, peaceful men and which group contains violent and savage men. We are, however, exposed to behaviors which are in opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, compassionate, thinking white men are definitely in the minority in this film. When John begins his Westward move, the crude, maniacal white man makes his reappearance. The officer who gives John the information about getting to his new post appears to be downright insane and apparently kills himself. The guide who accompanies John to his post is also no prize. John refers to him as the foulest man alive (Dances with Wolves). This constant exposure to the violent and crude men who make up the white race is an effective first step in shifting our sympathies. We want to distance ourselves from these shameful characters. We don t want to identify with them. Our first exposure to Indians is a mere suggestion of the expected stereotype. We are shown a skeleton on the ground with an arrow stuck through it. So far so good. We are accustomed to that image. Dunbar s guide states that Indians are nothin but thieves and beggars and that you only want to see them when they are dead (Dances with Wolves). He, of course, is such an exemplary man that it s not ironic at all to hear him degrading someone else. From the beginning of the film we are given hints that Dunbar is not like his fellow ugly Americans. When John and his guide arrive at the deserted Fort, the guide is in a hurry to be away. He is nervous and uncomfortable and thinks nothing of leaving without accomplishing what he was sent to do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sacred Heart College s Year 12 Biology Class Wednesday 18 February 2015, Sacred Heart College s Year 12 biology class took a field trip to Siren s Rock , located between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay on Wellington s South Coast. The pattern which was being investigated across the rocky shore was zonation. Zonation is a community pattern that occurs along an environmental gradient and is caused by the change in an environmental factor changing the distribution of species which results in species being present in zones or bands. This report will focus on the relationship between, and how this affects the zonation pattern on the shore of, the two species Cellana denticulata; commonly known as the Denticulate Limpet, and Syprachiton pelliserpentis; the Snakeskin Chiton. Cellana denticulata The first species studied was the Cellana denticulata. This species is a true limpet from the marine gastropod mollusc group and is the most commonly found on Siren s Rock. Denticulate limpets have a cone shaped shell which is covered in ridges to increase the surface area to radiate heat therefore increase cooling for the organism. It grips to rocks with its fleshy, muscular foot, and also grinds the edge of their shell into the rock so they fit perfectly together. In order to avoid dessication, the limpets pull down their shell and clamp over a pocket of water while still submerged so they can retain the water during low tide. Cars affected not only American society but all societies in incomparable ways they changed life at home, the economy, the environment, and even people s love lives. Most any violation of the Code resulted in branding, whipping or death. These regulations prevented slaves from ever gaining power, defending themselves or trying to organize or rebel against slavery. They also helped the elites control poor yeomen whites by giving them jobs, minor government positions and rewards for patrolling and capturing escaped slaves. The Roles effectively helped the planter elites institutionalize slavery with the help of slaves. The planter elite class relied on slavery in order to protect their economic way of life. They used their wealth and power to ensure that the northern states and federal government did not interfere with slavery in the south. The guide, Rob Hall, told the team before the climb that they had to be at the summit no later than two o clock, and if you are not there by then, they must turn back. Around two o clock, a massive storm begins to close in. The team must make it down to the lower camos soon or else it will be almost impossible for any of them to get back alive. Some of the climbers have not made it to to summit yet and go against Rob Hall s judgement, and go the rest of the way themselves. Unfortunately, Jon Krakauer , Rob Hall, and all the other climbers get caught up in the storm. Jon Krakauer by a miracle gets down to the lower level camps and he has been out of supplemental oxygen for a while now. He stumbles upon one of the climbers of his team. His name is Beck Weathers. However, just as the Christians battled other religious presences over what are correct teachings and practices, they also were prompted by the Roman Empire to conform or face consequences. These consequences came in the form of a series of persecutions, which in turn, triggered different responses from the Christians. The persecutions of Christians occurred over a span of ten Roman Emperors and about three hundred years. Then, following a Christian rebellion in Syria, Diocletian had all clergy imprisoned due to this rebellion proving the Christians as a physical threat. Also, the execution of more than two hundred Christians at Nicomedia occurred because of the out lash in Syria. He starts by defining the differences between clear and obscure conceptions a clear conception being once that will not be mistaken for another and an obscure one being one that fails to provide such clearness. He also touches on distinct and confused ideas. A distinct idea would be that which contains nothing obscure or as Pierce calls it clearness in the first grade. He also brings into attention consciousness, which can be immediate or mediate. He relates this to music and how we are immediately conscious of the notes while mediately conscious of the melody just like sensations are like notes and our thoughts like the melody. If I think I cannot do something, after a while I will not be capable of doing it. And vice versa if I truly believe that I can do something, I will try my best to do it. And this is not only about actions we are capable of doing or not. Most importantly, it is about what we think we are. If you are an optimist you love your life and think of yourself and the others around you as great people. If you are a pessimist you do not really care about who you are and you do not give your life a meaning. Optimism makes us have dreams. Those dreams eventually turn into goals and to accomplish those goals we get perseverant, we care about the people around us and we try to live a healthy live. Optimism leads to perseverance. An order picker picks one order at a time following a route up and down each aisle until the entire order is picked. The order picker will usually use some type of picking cart. The design of the picking flow should be such that the order picker ends up fairly close to the original starting point. The picking document should have the picks sorted in the same sequence as the picking flow. Fast moving product should be stored close to the main cross aisle and additional cross aisles put in to allow short cuts. Larger bulkier items would be stored towards the end of the pick flow. This basic order picking method can work well in operations with a small total number of orders and a high number of picks per order. Operations with low picks per order will find the travel time excessive in this type of picking and operations with large numbers of orders will find that the congestion from many pickers working in the same areas slows down the processing. It is my goal in this research paper to answer the following question: How do the soils of arctic and alpine areas differ? Similarity in Arctic and Alpine Geographic Regions There are pedologic cases in which one of the five soil forming factors established by Jenny (192?) is so prominent and effectual that it outweighs the sum of all of the other factors, resulting in the definition of different soil series almost wholly upon differences in that dominant soil forming factor. For example, in the Carleton Arboretum, our Soils class found that the differences in soil series were defined mostly on the basis of parent material. Most groups had a direct correlation between the distribution of soil types and the distribution of parent materials. In the case of Arctic and Alpine* soils, it is climate which largely outweighs all of the other soil forming factors. As previously stated, the intense cold associated with high latitudes and high altitudes separates Arctic and Alpine areas from other geographic regions of Earth. Parameswaran states that as students learn about issues of discrimination, they begin to reexamine their values. At times, the reexamination leads students who belong to dominant groups to feel guilty and accuse people who belong to underrepresented groups of reverse racism (qtd. in Parameswaran 5). An example of a source Parameswaran overuses is information from Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, a psychologist and author who focuses on race in education, and expands on reverse racism. Tautm s book discusses how students learn about Whites who were and/or are racists. Parameswaran reiterates Tatum s ideas by stating that most students can name people who hold racist values, but cannot recall any White individuals who fought against racial prejudice. According to Tatum, this is one reason that White ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Theme of Incest in The Duchess of Malfi Essay One can begin the discussion on the theme of incest in The Duchess of Malfi by understanding the social conception of incest . Talcott Parsons says it is not so much the prohibition of incest in its negative aspect(maintaining sexual relations) ...(Instead) Incest is withdrawal from the obligation to contribute to the formation and maintenance of supra familial bonds on which major economic, political and religious functions of the society are dependent. Ferdinand s incestuous behaviour towards the duchess follows the similar pattern pointed above ,i.e., Ferdinand s aim is not the achievement of sexual relations with his sister. One may like to contest this reading by highlighting Ferdinand s highly erotic language for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is due to this threat from the outside that Ferdinand takes up the posture of an incestuous brother obsessed with the blood and body of his sister, and going to the extent of surreptitiously entering her room. Ferdinand s intentions are thus to control the sexuality of his sister and thereby, making her the vessel of his honour. Whigham here rightly notes that Ferdinand s incest turns itself into a paranoia as he does not stand satisfied with the duchess marriage within an equal status group but denies her any form of marriage, or rather, contamination through sexual indulgence. The vulgar extent to which his abnormality works is best seen when he suggests Count Malateste to his sister as her prospective husband .Working with the play on his name (mal testes),he hints at the fact that an impotent husband would not contaminate his sister s blood. But after Ferdinand gets to know that his sister has realized his fears and has contaminated herself, his incestuous rage steps up a level. His speech then borders on necrophilia Have her meat serv d up by bawds and ruffians [4.i.123]. Ferdinand s interest now shifts to the dead body of his sister. From now on one also sees Ferdinand s paranoia turning itself into lycanthropia. This madness can be read as a result of the clash between Ferdinand s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Workplace Violence Hi Tonnetta, I really enjoyed reading your post. Security in the workplace is a very important topic. Any organization, no matter what kind, can experience workplace violence. Workplace violence often includes behaviors such as physical assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and bullying (Mathis, Jackson, Valentine Meglich, 2017, p. 558). You are correct that workplace violence does not just involve physical harm that one may do to another, it can be in the form of verbal harm. Verbal threats, intimidation and bullying are the most common forms of workplace violence and the least reported. A form of bullying can be through gossip and rumors. Gossip and rumors can be just as dangerous and sinister as a physical assault. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. How Water Transportation Would Be Further Revolutionized... Water transportation would be further revolutionized by the construction of canals. In 1825, New York opened the Erie Canal, which connected the five Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. Northern states like Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ohio also invested large amounts of money to build a network of canals connecting the Mississippi to the Great Lakes. As a result s, water transportation was much faster and cheaper. By 1827, wheat from central New York State could be bought for less money in Savannah, Georgia, than wheat grown in Georgia. This apparently had a great influence upon New York, stimulating the growth of economy. Such advantages for the North hurt the economies of Southern states such as Georgia, as its prices were no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The South, like other slave based societies, did not construct urban centers for commerce, finance, and industry on a scale rival with those found in the North. Southern cities, instead, were small as they failed to develop diversified economies and rarely engaged in international trade. On the contrary, southern cities primarily engaged in local trade. They marketed and transported cotton or other agricultural crops, supplied local planters and farmers with such necessities as agricultural tools, and produced manufactured goods, such as cotton gins, sold mostly to farmers. Southerners neglect industry and transportation improvements, like the railroads and canals of New York and Pennsylvania, due to the over reliance on slave based system. As a result, manufacturing and transportation lagged far behind in comparison to the North . Despite falling further and further behind in respect to economic growth, the south still managed to establish an aggressive sense of nationalism that was entrenched in its belief of its distinguished character and its illusion about oppressing by enemies (i.e. the North and blacks). The South began to consider itself more and more as the true guardian of America s heritage. Southern tourists who ventured into the North viewed it as a alien and remote land and ... • 43. Dark They Were And Golden Eyed Essay Why do the words that authors use in their writing help set the overall atmosphere of the story? In the story, What Do Fish Have to Do With Anything, a young boy named Willie and his cautious mother, who were abandoned by their father, come across a beggar, and Willie grows curious of his character, thus leading him to question him. After a series of encounters, Willie learns that the homeless man was not what he seemed, but a man of wisdom. In the story, Dark They Were, And Golden Eyed by Ray Bradbury, a party of humans arrive in Mars and try to build their new lives there after an apocalypse on the Earth. One of the humans, Harry Bittering, is skeptical about Mars and how living there may not be the best idea. In both Dark They Were, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, after a family has arrived on an unfamiliar environment through a rocket, n the text, it states, The wind blew, whining. At any moment the Martian air might draw his soul from him, as marrow comes from a white bone. This means that a party of humans had reached some environment that was unfamiliar because in the text we learn that the humans had emerged from a rocket that came from Earth and that they were currently in a Martian setting. Further into the text, when the family is told that they cannot return to their home, it states, For a long time there was only the sound of the wind in the late afternoon. Alone, thought Bittering. Only a thousand of us here. No way back. No way. No way. This text means that the humans who had approached Mars as their new home would be forever lost there, and this is because in the text we learn that atom bombs hit New York, causing all the space rockets to explode. This text also means that the silence that was roaming the family was due to the fact that they were speechless because in the text we learn how that their old and favored home was gone. This is important because it shows how the author chose to mention that the wind was whining, how the martian air was threatening, and only the sound of the wind because he wanted to lay out the mood of foreboding for the readers. Many of the decisions that the author made involving the mood were to include several minor details that add to the reader s feelings and signal some upcoming events in the ... The Greek economy experienced a series of successive setbacks during this period. Since 2010, the Greek economy contracted more than 20%. The investment level decreased by 86 % as compared to 2008 (IMF, 2013b). The continuous drop in GDP, which in 2011 surpassed the historical maximum for the entire postwar period, led to a rapid decline in domestic demand. Unemployment more than doubled within the first three years of austerity reaching 25.4% in August 2012. More than half the population between 15 24 years of age or 57%, is unemployed (Eurostat, 2012), homelessness increased by 25% from 2009 to 2011 as suicide rates hit record levels, increasing 25% from 2009 2010 and an additional 40% from 2010 2011 (Reynolds, 2015). In early 2014, unemployment exceeded 28%; youth unemployment rose to 63%, which led young, educated people to emigrate in large numbers (Visvizi, 2014).
