Gristan Und Isolde Analysis
Richard Wagner changed the world s understanding and perception of opera when he composed,
Tristan und Isolde . This opera is based on the romantic legend, Tristan , by Gottfried von Strassburg.
What distinguishes this particular work from anything else of its time is the foundation and meaning
of love and the untraditional love story that unfolds. Wagner does not hesitate to violate the collective
regard for the love of life and, in turn, the life of love. By writing his own libretto, Wagner s opera
symbolizes what perfect love is and the way in which it contributes to eternal life and death. Over the
course of his life, Wagner was regarded as a determined and somewhat controversial individual. His
compositional works are no exception to these characteristics. This is largely due to the fact that his
libretto writing is reflective of his own experiences and feelings. When he had written Tristan und
Isolde , Wagner was coping with drama and complication in his personal life. At this point of his life
he was married to Minna Planner. Their relationship faced some hardship and developed into a rigid
partnership. During this time, Wagner was a very vulnerable being and took comfort in his companion,
Mathilde Wesendonk. Her husband, Otto Wesendock, was a very wealthy banker and a patron of
Wagner s work. He provided Wagner with a small villa to reside in to continue composing and
inventing. Eventually, Mathilde moved in next door to Wagner. As their relationship continued to
flourish, they progressed from a teacher and student dynamic to adulterous lovers. Unfortunately, the
situation resulted in a crisis, exposing their inappropriate relationship in the process. This turn of
events inspired Wagner to write the libretto of Tristan und Isolde as he was left with dissatisfaction
and unfulfilled passion. This turn of events in his life prompted Wagner to stop writing another one of
his most highly regarded pieces, Der Ring des Nibelungen , to begin writing Tristan und Isolde . One
of the more notable pieces of inspiration of his libretto resulted after meeting philosopher, Arthur
Schopenhauer. Many of Schopenhauer s ideas were eye opening and impactful on Wagner s general
perception. His first form

Injectable Drug Abuse
MEMORANDUM
INJECTABLE DRUG ABUSE: GROWING CHALLENGE IN NORTH EASTERN PART OF INDIA
FROM: AE28697
TO: Ministry of development of north east affairs, India
RE: Scenario C Health and harm reduction
DATE: 19 October 2013
Introduction
North east (NE) India is connected to remaining part of India through a constricted passage known as
Siliguri Corridor squeezed between Nepal and Bangladesh (Hussain, 2011). It comprises of seven
sister states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The
region shares more than 4500 km of international border with China, Myanmar, Bangladesh and
Bhutan. The region is presently facing acute problem of drug addicts who operate in groups and prefer
administration through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sources reveal the trans border smuggling routes starting from Khamti (Myanmar) to Noklak and
Mokokchung in Nagaland (India), from Mandalay (Myanmar) via Tamu to Moreh in Manipur (India)
and from Homalin (Myanmar) to Kohima (India) (Dolabhai, 2003).
Recommendations
The present scenario of drug abuse in NE India is very alarming as the future of the states is in ruin.
Three simultaneous actions are recommended to resolve the problem. These are checking the trans
border smuggling of drugs, tackling the existing drug users and deterring fresh case. These can be
implemented through strict vigil, Systematic De addiction and Rehabilitation Programme (SDRP) and
by generating scope for healthy livelihood.
Strict Vigil The very first challenge is to impose strict check at the international borders again drug
trafficking. The second challenge is to increase awareness regarding the adverse effect of drug abuse
through mass campaigning. Young Mizo Association (YMA), a local organization created by the
youths of Mizoram observed that drug abuse cases in the state in decline. Since 2004, 143 drugs
related death case has been reported and by June 2008, the same has come down to only four.
However, harsh punishment method employed by YMA called Supply Reduction Service drew flak
from many quarters including the local media the human rights activists. (Outlook India, 2008)

Constructivism And Realism Paradigm Analysis
The three main paradigms of international relations are liberalism, realism, and constructivism. In
regards to a zombie outbreak, each paradigm will predict a different outcome for survival and
cooperation. A liberal would argue that zombies represent a classic problem of dying and then coming
to life in an undead state and trying to make others to do so as well. Undoubtedly, the zombie dispute
would cross borderlines and affect all states, so the benefits from policy coordination would be
massive. A realist would argue that international politics would not be remarkably affected, at its main,
with the introduction of zombies into the mix of politics. Constructivism argues society is what we
perceive it to be, so zombies are what we make of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More humans will come to one with the zombie way of undead life, as it were, the remaining humans
would feel social pressure to conform and eventually adopt the norms and practices of zombies kind
of like towards the end of Shaun of the Dead. In the end, even humans would adopt zombie
constructed perceptions of right and wrong, and when it s appropriate to grunt in a menacing manner.
Constructivism emphasizes the significance of beliefs, values, norms, and identities in constructing
social reality and ultimately shaping a state s behavior. As one scholar compressed the constructivist
paradigm, anarchy is what states make of it (Wendt 391). Transnational norms, relationships, and
identities are shaped over time as states interact with one another; these identities and norms, in turn,
mutually construct state behavior. As opposed to realists, who argue that anarchy unavoidably leads to
competition for power and conflict, constructivists maintain that the lack of central authority in
worldwide politics has no inherent qualities that enact upon states a specific pattern of behavior.
Therefore, constructivism opens the door to a wide variety of policy responses to a particular
challenge. Applying the constructivist perspective to the fictional zombie apocalypse scenario,
Drezner contends that the existential peril posed by zombies could be the exogenous shock needed to
break down

Evolution Of The Female Professional Statistics
Evolution is something that has occurred since the beginning of time and as the decades go on,
evolution continues to occur throughout various aspects of life. One of these prominent spectrums is
the work place. While women have not always blossomed in the business world, the female
professional statistics have begun and continued to increase as time has. Although there is more
gender equality amongst several companies, the numbers aren t necessarily where they should be.
According to an article by Warner, women make up 50.8% of the population, only 14.6% of those
women hold executive positions in the workplace. Even less are top earners and less than 5% are
Fortune 500 CEO s. The numbers continue to drop for women of color as only 11.9% hold positions at
the manager level (Warner, 2014). And according to the article by Kranc (2014), ...although women
make up 19 percent of director positions within the S P 100, they represent only 8 percent of the
highest paid executives (Kranc, 2014). These numbers provided by Warner are proof that there are still
problems regarding the growth of women in the corporate world, especially when the women are of a
minority background. Fortunately, as will be discussed in this assignment, this gender gap is beginning
to close as women are standing their ground and fighting for the positions and pay that they deserve.

In September 2015, Microsoft faced a lawsuit for gender discrimination. The case was focused on the

Drinking Water Safety Is Not New
A pressing issue in todays society is the growing concern over the accessibility of safe, clean drinking
water. Following a crisis in Flint, Michigan, where public officials ignored dangerous levels of lead in
the city s drinking water and thousands of children were exposed to dangerous levels of lead in their
water. Beyond the obvious issues in Flint, however, there remain many problems surrounding safe
drinking water. Though options to fix these problems exist, it remains challenging to find a solution
that does not ask too much from small city governments that cannot afford these fixes. Further, this
issue is both partisan, and impacts individuals as well with the potential to raise their taxes and make
them shoulder some of the cost to rebuild and improve the infrastructure of their cities. Though the
United States has some of the safest drinking water in the world, the recent crisis in Flint has brought
the issue of drinking water safety to the forefront as many scandals are discovered and calls for
improvement are made. The issue of drinking water safety is not new, however many citizens do not
appreciate the work and money that goes into providing this water. There are many steps that must
take place, and several systems that clean the water and deliver it to them. The most pressing issues
surrounding this are lead contamination from different pipes and sources, and contamination from the
introduction of chemicals to the water before and after treatment centers

Eye Of The Beholder
Striving for the Unachievable
Beauty is an imaginary construct created by society. People in society feel a need to be considered
beautiful because they want to fit in, and be admired. The importance of beauty in society is
prominently portrayed in the Twilight Zone series, episode Eye of the Beholder (1960). This episode
tells the tale of a young woman, Janet, who strives to be accepted in her society because she looks
different than others. Throughout the episode, Janet is trying to change herself to be accepted by
others, yet she is not able to truly conform to the look of her society. The episode works to show how
in society, the gaze of others is so deeply ingrained in people that it causes them to live for others.
This episode begins by explaining Janet s problem: she is ugly and wants to become beautiful. When
Janet is first introduced, she is under a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He comes in to tell her that he will take off the bandages soon, and he hopes that the surgery worked.
He too is viewing her under the gaze of others and viewing her as different because that is how society
views her. Although he has the freedom to choose how he views her, he lives in bad faith because he is
subjective to society. When the doctor leaves the room to talk to the nurse, he realizes that he feels bad
for her. He wants her to be accepted in society, but not how she currently looks. Besides for
demonstrating the gaze of others, he also is living for others by listening to the views of his society
that he appears to disagree with. When he goes back into the room to take off her bandages, the leader
is on the television screen. He talks about how people need to conform. The leader wants all his
citizens to live in bad faith by living how he wants them to live. Not only is Janet subjected to this
gaze, but this gaze is given because of people s need to conform and live how others want them to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Virtualization
Virtualization
What is virtualization?
It is the creation of a virtual version of something. Which includes:
Computer hardware platforms
Operating systems
Storage devices
Computer network resources
It is the creation of a virtual version of a device or resource. It gives a virtual view computing
resources. Its allows you to turn one server into several hosts.
Brief History of Virtualization
When you think about the term Virtualization, the company VMWare most likely will come to mind.
In fact, you may not realise that it actually started back in the early 1960 s. it was pioneered by
companies like General Electric, Bell labs, and International Business Machines (IBM).
Back in the 1960 s IBM had many different types of systems, each ... Show more content on

It involves embedding virtual machine software into the component of a server. It s most commonly
known as hypervisor and virtual monitor are the most common.
It is a rapidly growing technology that is getting popular in server platforms. The simple idea is
putting several small physical servers into one large physical server so the processor can run
effectively.
The hypervisor controls the processor, memory and other components. The hypervisor allows several
different operating systems to run at once on the same machine. The OS running will appear to have
its own processor, memory and other components.
Desktop Virtualization This often is called client virtualization. It is considered a type of client server
computing model which the virtual desktop is stored on a centralized server and not on the machine
being used.
You interact with a virtual desktop in the same way you would with a real computer. A big plus is you
can remotely log in to access your desktop from any location

Simply Suds Research Paper
Lather, sometimes called soapsuds or simply suds is a frothy, white mass of bubbles that results when
a cleansing substance or soap is combined with water. It is widely believed that the more lather a
product generates, the better it is at cleaning. This belief, which is promoted through the marketing of
products is incorrect, however, having become accustomed to copious amounts of lather in our beauty
products, it has become the norm to expect it and to think more highly of products based (sometimes)
solely on how much lather they generate.
Perhaps our love of lather begins in infancy and childhood when we are enticed to our baths by the
presence of lots of white bubbles and spend countless minutes popping and blowing them. Perhaps we
take this childlike wonder and love of bubbles into adulthood because we are apt to wonder just how
clean or hair or skin is if our shampoo, soap or bod wash did not create lots of foam. Many of us go
through life never realizing that lather is not necessary in order to get things clean. More often than
not, lathering agents are added to products for the sole purpose of satisfying the expectations of
consumers. The companies that make our personal care and beauty products ... Show more content on

common and in addition to creating the white bubbles we love to see, also help to make products such

frequently used because they are inexpensive and allow manufacturing companies to make more
money. The risk of cancer, however, is far too serious a consequence for unnecessary

Now we will discuss a brief history of early atomic battery development.
Henry G. J. Moseley, known for developing the Atomic Number and numerous other contributions to
physics and chemistry, created the first known atomic battery in 1913 with his demonstration of the
beta cell. He experimented with a radioactive isotope of the element radium, and the respective
emissions of beta particles, to form the first atomic battery (source 5). This first crude battery saw
minimal success and effectiveness, and it wasn t until 1954 when the Radio Corporation of America
(RCA) began studying atomic batteries for the use of small radio receivers and hearing aids that
atomic batteries became practical and more potential was realized (source 6). Moving forward to the
1980 s, inventor Paul Brown developed an atomic battery that was much more powerful than most
thermal batteries out at the time. Brown used the emission of alpha and beta particles in radioactive
materials to create an extremely powerful magnetic field. As discussed before, these alpha and beta
particles contain kinetic energy to help collide atomic particles. The energy produced from this system
was so rapid and immense that controlling the cell was extremely difficult. This proved to be a
towering roadblock for most scientists to continue research for atomic batteries, until Brown was able
to invent an approach to encompass the uncontrollable magnetic fields. This battery was so powerful

Zodiac Analysis
The Monster Within In Zodiac, written by Robert Graysmith he says, Just because you can t prove it
does not mean it is not true. This premise was completely accurate and disheartening for David
Toschi, the lead detective on the case because he could not uncover concrete evidence to convict
Arthur Leigh Lee Allen. Lee was the prime suspect in the investigation and all signs pointed to him
being Zodiac, which was the main similarity between the publication and motion picture. In addition,
the text contained two prime suspects, but the feature film fixated on one. Graysmith later went to say,
The film ends by hinting that Zodiac may be the man behind you in the theatre (Zodiac). He was
articulating how they should be vigilant at all times because Zodiac could be the person juxtaposed to
them and never know it. People may look ordinary but in reality, everybody is insane, some just
suppress it better than others. Zodiac written by Graysmith had several parallels with the motion
picture directed by David Fincher, but the main similarity was the accusation of Arthur Leigh Allen
being Zodiac. Both the novel and the film focused on Lee being the main suspect considering all signs
pointed to him, even though law enforcement officers did not have sufficient evidence to validate it.
Zodiac allegedly murdered 37 civilians, although only 7 were substantiated to be Zodiac with 2
survivors: Mike Mageau and Bryan Hartnell. However, the cinema and publication both prompted
scrutiny to the deaths of David Faraday, Betty Lou Jensen, Darlene Ferrin, Cecelia Shepard, and Paul
Stine. Each of their unfortunate demises all corresponded to Lee s whereabouts (Zodiac). The timeline
made an impeccable match, but the evidence was not substantial for conviction. Lee was the only
suspect served with a search warrant, after searching Lee s trailer they uncovered incriminating
evidence, but his handwriting did not match Zodiac s (Collins). Lee went through handwriting tests
that the police arranged for him and much to their dismay the handwriting expert determined there
was no correlation from Zodiac s letters to the handwriting submissions Lee presented (Grinell). The
only known sign of the Zodiac logo was on a watch and

grown to become one of the nation s best known smoothie chains, emphasizing the benefits of a
healthy lifestyle and because the company is looking for international expansion opportunities. We
chose Spain as our target country for expansion of our product due to its current economic status and
economic growth forecasts for the future. This combination provides the firm with an opportunity to

creation and expansion of small businesses in Spain as well as support and services to business
owners. Recent government campaigns and initiatives have focused on support for entrepreneurs,
primarily in response to Spain s economic goals for the future. Increasing competitiveness and
promoting innovation were identified as key strategies to maintain, grow and keep Spain s economy

Dropout Age Should Be 18
Dropout Ages Should Be 18
Were you aware that every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States
alone? That s a student every 26 seconds or 7,000 a day. Currently, 20 states have ages 18 as a dropout
age and 30 have it as 16 and 17. All states that have school dropout ages under 18 should be raised to
18 because dropping out will make them earn less money, become less healthy, and increase the
likelihood of going to jail.
The first reason why school dropout age should be raised is because it makes them more likely to be in
jail. In the article, Staying in School: A Proposal for Raising High School Graduation Rates , it states
that school dropout rates have been increasing and have been pushing high schoolers

My College Journey
During my twelve years of school, I have grown accustomed to knowing the people and businesses in
my city, and they knew me. I didn t realize it, but the comfortable environment of knowing my
neighbors was limiting my emotional and social maturity. I did not have a reason to step outside the
box, because I was in a place of comfort. As I embark on to this new college journey, I will face many
challenges that will offer a fresh start, on beginning a new chapter of my life. There will be stumbling
blocks towards transitioning to college life. These blocks involve meeting new people, being self
sufficient, and adapting to my new environment. Although these challenges are difficult, I know there
will be many lessons learned. These lessons will only build me as an individual mentally and socially.
What I have learned during brief time at Xavier is that I am now willing to allow myself to fly in the
winds of life. I say that because, all successful people have had to overcome their uncertainties. For
instance, according to the article 10 Celebs Who Faced Their Fears on HuffPost, actress Sofia Vergara

Similarities Between Julius Caesar And The French Revolution
Ancient Rome and the French Revolution were, although both a long time ago, very different political
atmospheres. As captured by William Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Julius Caesar
was becoming a dictator with only the beloved Marcus Brutus to save the people. While, flash forward
a few thousand years, in the French Revolution, anyone with a high social standing was murdered as
shown by Jacques Louis David s painting, The Death of Marat. The two historical events seem wildly
different except for the killers. Charlotte Corday and Marcus Brutus are comparable via their public
image, murder weapon, and motive. The essential part to any murder is a motive, which both Corday
and Brutus had. Both eliminated their victims for selfless reasons. The only reason Corday killed was
because Marat was seen as a threat to the success of the French Revolution for the good of the people
Corday murdered him. Corday executed because that was what she thought was the right thing to do
with was similar to Brutus. Brutus was a man for the people and would have done anything for them.
Caesar was his friend, however, he still killed him because he believed it was in the best interest of the
Roman people. Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I...loved Rome more (Shakespeare III.ii.21 22).
This line shows Brutus motivation was for the people which is similar to Corday. Despite this
similarity, the murders were still very different. Brutus had the ability to consult with several people
on the repercussions of the murder whereas Corday acted completely alone. This meant that Brutus
was well aware and was able to consult with several people to make sure that the murder was valid
while Corday did not have that. Both factors affected the affairs as a whole once again showing how
similar but, different Corday and Brutus are. Another significant similarity between Brutus and
Corday was their chosen murder weapon. As portrayed in the painting with the knife laying on the
floor it is inferred that that was what Corday used to kill Marat (David). David also painted a stab
wound on the body of Marat to show where exactly the fatal injury was inflicted (David). Both images
give an impression of how the murder took

Statement of Purpose for Graduate Study
Philosophy Doctoral Program at Stanford University
I wouldn t be doing philosophy if I didn t think it progressed, and that we know now more than we did
a century ago. For that reason, I don t view its history as a story of the clash of defensible but
irreconcilable views, from which the most we can expect is a sympathetic understanding of how
things looked to the participants. (Scott Soames) For the value of the history of philosophy . . . lies not
only in the fact that we can learn from our predecessors how to address in different ways the questions
that concern us, but also in the fact that we can learn from them how to ask different questions, or how
to ask our questions differently. (Paul Franks)
These quotes provide different pictures about the history of philosophy. The notion of progress plays a
key role in Soames account. Because we know more now than we did in the past, Soames claims the
history of philosophy should involve a careful analysis of both the achievements and insights that have
allowed the field to progress as well as the missteps which have frustrated this process. Soames would
have history vindicate our current philosophical understanding. Paul Franks, on the other hand, wants
to problematize this straightforward account of how we progressed from the past to the present. He
does this by leaving open the possibility that important questions may cease to be raised and that

Oresteia The Issue of Justice in Aeschylus Eumenides
The concept of justice is manifested through the three plays of Aeschylus Oresteia. The old tradition
of justice, the private blood feud, caused an ungoverned succession of violent acts that spiralled
uncontrollably. Aegisthus, Clytemnestra s lover, is introduced in Agamemnon; he desires vengeance
for the plot contrived by Agamemnon s father (Ag: 1605 1611).1 Neither Agamemnon nor Aegisthus
took part in this plot and yet as the chorus explains (Ag: 755 6)
But ancient Violence longs to breed,
new violence comes
when its fatal hour comes,
The justice system of this period demanded that one avenge the death of a family member, this can be

However, the violent acts of reprisal do not end with Agamemnon. With this act comes a twist within
the traditional system of justice. In The Libation Bearers, Orestes must choose to avenge his father s
murder. The twist comes in that by avenging his father, Orestes will be committing matricide, a crime
revolting to the gods and especially to the Furies. Orestes is placed in a no win situation; he must
avenge his father or else be plagued by (Lib: 285 6)
.................leprous boils that ride the flesh,
their wild teeth gnawing the mother tissue,
Unfortunately, the same fate awaits him if he commits matricide, thereby avenging his father. Orestes
chooses the latter and is besieged by the hounds of mother s hate. (Lib: 1055 6). Through this
sequence of murderous events, Aeschylus demonstrates the complexity and futility of the blood feud
as a system of justice. There are no winners, and the cycle of violence does not end. Thus, this cycle of
vengeance is not justice.
In the Eumenides, Aeschylus manifests a new system of justice for the more civilised times. Orestes,
plagued by the Furies, turns to Apollo (Eum: 88 90)
Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice

Unjust Iraq War Essay
The Iraq war has been a very sensitive and divisive issue in today s society. Although we can not
ignore the cloud around this administration when it comes to potential incentives that going to war
presented, (such as oil for profits and retaliation to Saddam Hussein for the Gulf War and treatment of
President Bush Sr.), I will look beyond these potential motives to explain why the U.S. involvement in
the Iraq War was unjust simply because it doesn t fall into any of the four functions of force authored
by Robert J. Art. The United States ignored the U.N. guidelines for peace, as well as its public protest
against the war, to strike Iraq with an unprovoked attack. A war fought on the premise that this country
had ties to Osama Bin Laden, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The easiest way to prove that was to find the weapons of mass destruction or supported programs.
Leaving aside the fact that many do not accept this interpretation even in principle, the U.S.( Britain,
its primary military ally) needed to demonstrate that Iraq s weapons of mass destruction compatibility
was imminent. They failed to do so, both before and after the war. (276) This strike doesn t fit as a
defense of preemptive, (an attack in hours or days), nor does it fit for defense of preventive, (an attack
in months or years). The U.S. had successfully attacked a harmless country. The next function of force
according to Art is deterrence. This serves to prevent the enemy from doing something that one doesn
t want him to do and that he might otherwise be tempted to do by threatening him with unacceptable
punishment if he does. In essence this is the threat of retaliation for deviating from one s requests. The
effectiveness of the threat depends upon the states credibility for carrying out the threat, and the
United States being the superpower that it is, had all the credibility needed to have the full attention of
the Iraqi leader. This is why Hussein complied with the UN in 2002 with the Security Council
Resolution 1441. This act demanded that Iraq re admit weapons inspectors and comply with previous
resolutions it has ignored since the 1990s. Even after the U.N. inspector Hans Blix reported that there

Essay on Case 20
1. What problems does Robin Hood have? What issues need to be addressed? 2. Do Robin Hood and
the Merrymen need a new mission? new objectives? a new strategy?
In the second year of the insurrection against the Sheriff of Nottingham, the tide of events is turning
against Robin Hood and his men. The revolt, which began as a personal crusade inspired by anger, is
feeling the consequences of not having a long term strategy or plan. In order to be successful, key
changes are necessary for Robin Hood and the Merrymen.
Robin Hood faces a myriad of problems that can potentially influence the changes that are crucial for
Robin s organization, as well as affect the effectiveness of the insurrection. As the CEO of his
organization, Robin has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With no cash inflows, Robin will quickly consume his financial reserves and will not be able to
purchase food, pay his men, or continue to outfit and provision the band. Consequently, this will leave
Robin Hood and his band susceptible to attacks from a Sheriff that is getting stronger, recruiting more
men, and receiving financial backing. Therefore, in order for the revolt to succeed, Robin Hood and
the Merrymen do need to establish a new mission, new objectives, and a new strategy to achieve their
goals.
3. What strategic options does Robin Hood have? Is continuing with the present strategy an option or
is the present strategy obsolete?
The potential strategic options of Robin Hood are to continue on with no major changes, to institute a
fixed transit tax, to pursue geographic expansion, to try to kill the Sheriff, or to accept the barons offer.
While continuing with the present strategy and stealing from the rich to give to the poor is a viable
option, it has more future negative consequences than positive ones. The mere fact that the Merrymen
are growing at such a fast pace suggests that the present strategy is beginning to be obsolete, and
furthermore, travelers are wiser and are avoiding Sherwood Forest altogether. This means that Robin
Hood s and the band s revenue will decrease and they will not be able to continue to operate and keep
the insurrection alive.

Paradox In Romeo And Juliet
The story of Romeo and Juliet is an ironic and cruel story. The characters go through plenty of trouble
because of their love. The characters use literary devices to show the love they have for each other.
Shakespeare use juxtaposition, oxymoron, and/ or paradox as indirect characterization to describe
their complex personalities. Romeo is passionate when it comes to his elaborate feelings; at first,
Romeo just fell in love with Juliet for her beauty, but he overcomes that and loves all of Juliet s
qualities too. Romeo shows his passion for Juliet by using an oxymoron. He describes how amazing
she is compared to a worthless man like him: And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand

When Romeo falls in love with Juliet, he finds out that she is a Capulet and the society will not allow
them to get married: Is she a Capulet?/ O dear account! my life is my foe s debt (1.5.116 117). Romeo
uses a paradox by telling the audience that his life is in his enemy s hands to express his unfortunate
love for Juliet even though she is his enemy. He also tells Juliet that he will do anything for her if it
means being with her: With love s light wings did I o erperch these walls;/ For stony limits cannot
hold love out,/ And what love can do, that dares love attempt,/ Therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me
(2.2.66 69). The wings represent Romeo s love for Juliet and the stony limits are society. Juliet also
tells Romeo that she is willing to do anything for her love with Romeo: Deny thy father and refuse thy
name!/ Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,/ And I ll no longer be a Capulet (2.2.34 36). Since
society will not let them be married because she is a Capulet and Romeo is a Montague, Juliet tells
Romeo she will no longer be a Capulet so they can get married. Because his love for Juliet will allow
him to fight against society, Romeo is an intricate

Essay on The Wife of Bath by Geoffery Chaucer
The Wife of Bath
The Wife of Bath, or Alison, is a worldly woman. Not only has she traveled the world, she has
experienced the world, in the sexual manner. Alison herself states this at the beginning of her tale,
Were there no books at all on the subject, my own experience gives me a perfect right to talk of the
sorrows of marriage . . . I ve married five husbands . . . . (Chaucer 174). The point of Alison s long
winded prologue is to crush the idea that men have a hierarchy of dominance over women. Chaucer
makes this point, and also the point, through Alison s tale, that if women are given what they want,
then they will be obedient and faithful to their men.

At this notion, the Pardoner, another one of Chaucer s characters, asks why he should even wed if his
wife is going to control his body. Alison quickly replies that he should listen to her tale before he
makes judgements about the gift that women have. Now Alison begins her tale.
Alison tells the tale of a knight in King Arthur s Court who rapes a beautiful young maiden out of lust.
The knight is sentenced to be decapitated. However, the queen and other ladies of the court ask Arthur
to give the knight one chance to save himself, and being obedient to the wifely counsel, Arthur agrees.
The knight may live, if within one year he can come back to the court and tell them what women want
most in the world. Alison continues her tale, telling all of the different answers that the knight
receives, such as sex, money, flattery, and even remarriage. Not thinking that any of these answers are
true he continues on. Nearing the end of his journey, the knight spots a group of women dancing in the
woods, but when he gets to where they were they have vanished and all that remains is an ugly old
woman. The old woman ask if she can help and the knight tells of his predicament. The old hag says
that she knows the answer and offers to help only if the knight pledges himself to her. Returning to the
court, the knight gives his answer to the women. The knight replies that what

Carrying a concealed handgun increases the chances of a confrontation and turning lethal injuries For

another man during an argument over text messaging in a movie theater. Most existing CCW permits

Contrary to the claims of the gun lobby, CCW laws do not decrease crime. In fact, these laws may
increase crime. More guns have reduced crime in other states. Crime has gone down everywhere in

Gunpowder Plot Analysis
Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that was published in 1623. The Gunpowder
Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England. The Gunpowder
Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon closer analyzation, the
two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the Gunpowder Plot had on
the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution are themes from the
Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth.
The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England is
bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen, her
first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead by
Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas
Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman
Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The conspirators
wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were out of the
picture.
The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his parliament
members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room that parliament
was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where parliament was to
meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of gunpowder into the rented
room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited. The additional conspiracy
members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose
Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant
(www.historylearningsite.co.uk).
The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. The plot was
discovered, in the official version, through an anonymous letter to Lord Monteagle, a Catholic,
warning him not to attend the State Opening. Whether the letter was genuine or a forgery is uncertain.
In any event, on the 4 November

Gender norm in media and culture
Dozens of action movies are produced every year by Hollywood. Not to mention how widely most
violent scenes such as guns and kills are accepted in most of them. Although most may view them
only as entertainments, it is undeniable that the overexposed ideas of power and dauntless from not
only the movies but our daily media had slowly changed our social norms toward gun and violent.
Over 900 mass shootings, defined as having four or more fatalities in one incident by CNN, has
happened in less than three years since 2013. When in fact, as TV news and newspapers intended to
inform titles like a student opened fire or people are shot dead in a historic black church , almost none
marked out the issue on gender or men in the titles. African Americans, psychotics, Mexicans, and
immigrants are more often to be written in contents of violence, whereas only few articles wrote about
white men, who also build up a big part of our masculinity society. In the past, violence came from
anger in specific reasons; today, violence has become a way to represent our toughness and
masculinity. Not only did our popular culture lead us to a narrower idea of distinct gender behaviors,
such as men to be brave and women to be sensitive, our media provides us even more contents toward
normalizing what should be violent and incorrect.
Our every day mass media has emerged into the most powerful

Sylvia Plath s importance in American history stems from the literary eminence of her writing, and her
works show the rigid conditions of mid twentieth century women. Plath s significance really comes
from the ways in which she opened doors with her writing that prior to her have never been explored
before. She was a feminist martyr who challenged a patriarchal society. She posed questions that no
one else seemed to be asking about the role that I woman plays in society. Her book The Bell Jar,
displayed a protagonist who struggled with basic questions about sex. Questions like, if I decide to

After researching the end of the book, the recognition of connections of all kinds became obvious, the
electrocution of the Rosenbergs and the shock treatment at the end of the book have a metaphorical if
not a realistic kinship. In the end the Rosenbergs just meant death to Sylvia Plath. I couldn t help
wondering what it would be like, being burned alive, all along your nerves. The Bell Jar seems to be a
realistic account of her own suicide attempt while she attended Smith University. Her use of sound,
sensation and her poetic ordering of material all connect to the sensational details of her personal life
or more specifically her death. The dark twist, as strange as it is, is the primary reason why readers

The Effects Of Mining On The Environment And Economy For...
Mining is the process or industry of obtaining coal or other minerals from a mine. A new mining
project, called the Back Forty, is was proposed and is located on the Michigan and Wisconsin border.
This project is said to begin around 2020 and created concern for some people. The Aquila Resources
Inc. is the company behind this proposal, and they said it will invest more than $300 million to extract
gold, zinc, copper and silver along the Menominee River (Bergquist, 2016). The Menominee river is
part of the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The mine will have large effects on the
environment and economy for Lake Michigan and Wisconsin. The next paragraphs will discuss the
positive and negative effects that the Back Forty could create. One side would be for the mine and say
that the economic benefits would outweigh the negative effects on the environment, while the
opposing side would say the opposite.
To begin, those who are for mining would say that the Back Forty will have positive effects on the
economy in places near it. Many people could assume that opening a mine could create more jobs, and
essentially help the economy. One example, from another mine from Hunter Valley, is that mining
provided the major source of energy for industry, transport and economic development, (Cottle, 2013).
This shows that mining can have very good impacts. A specific way the Back Forty can affect
northeastern Wisconsin is it would generate more, than $20 million in new tax revenue

this time he was to see the last of four images that would change his life forever. The last sight he saw

The Pros And Cons Of Cartoons
If a worldwide phenomenon is defined as an occurrence that is reaching throughout the world, then it
would be reasonably logical to conclude that the consumption of animated cartoon shows are indeed, a
worldwide phenomenon. Since 1960s, cartoons have provided numerous generations of children with
a type of entertainment that filled their little minds with fantasy and imagination. Cartoons may have
started out as an entertainment for children. However, the world today sees different genres of

However, since this group of audiences is at the stage of learning more complex knowledge that may
be tedious to infuse into entertainment based animated shows, the scriptwriters would rather leave the
academic teachings to the schools. Instead, cartoons of this genre are evidently focused on delivering
moral values and encouraging friendships and family cohesiveness. Plots for these cartoon shows
might feature the characters going through some distressing troubles or difficulties; however, things
always turn out right in the end. SpongeBob Squarepants , a long run cartoon series from the 90s
featuring SpongeBob the yellow sponge and his starfish best friend Patrick, has been undoubtedly
successful in imparting valuable lessons on friendship and altruism in the minds of teenagers. For
example, SpongeBob has always been portrayed as being very giving and selfless to Patrick who
might sometimes seems brainless and naive; Patrick, on the other hand, though usually emotionless,
becomes very sad when SpongeBob befalls some unfortunate fate, and always attempts to help him at
his best efforts. Cartoons for the young adults may also adopt a more lenient language style,

Alinsky Idea Of Silence
Alinsky states: Large parts of the middle class, the silent majority, must be activated; action and
articulation are one, as are silence and surrender. In my view, the idea of silence constitutes an array or
responses that include but are not limited doing something that does not help the situation, doing the
same thing that has previously not effected desirable change for the same problem or living life as
though nothing is happening. In other words, silence can take many forms. To illustrate, from Nerve
Gas to Mountain Meadows to the killings of Palestinian children in refugee camps to Trump s
presidency, someone who could have done something chose inaction or actions to perpetuate injustice.
This is my perspective is the reticence

In today s world, the role of IT has turned accounting estimated critical in financial reporting and
disclosure. Houghton and Fogarty have said that non accurate or incorrect estimates have often caused
to misstatements in audit report (Gray Manson, 2007).
Audit Risk Model
Audit Risk Assessment can be done by this Audit Risk Model. This model consists of 3 types of risks
i.e., inherent risk, control risk and detection risk. Eventually, audit risk is a product of these 3 types of

Common Sense
M/W 2 3:15 Thomas Paine made no secret for his hatred of the British monarchy. This was partially
due to their absolutism beliefs, the oppression of his countrymen, and the system of government where
the rich got richer and the poor get poorer. He believed that Britain would never have a balanced
government so long as monarchy and hereditary succession stayed in place. When Thomas Paine
immigrated to Philadelphia, several things had strong influences on his writing of Common Sense.
The Intolerable acts as well as the Enlightenment Challenge influenced his writing concerning the
view of parliament and British monarchy (maybe switch this sentence for the next one). After
Parliament had passed The Intolerable Acts, Paine watched the continuation and control the British
Monarchy and Parliament had in America, along with their unnatural behaviors and influence over
government issues, the ideological changes that came from The Enlightenment Challenge . Paine
believed change could and should happen; that America could find economic independence and not
carry any burden of debt if they separated from Britain since their debt was actually Britain s in the
first place. Paine said that there could be no reconciliation; he understood that to become free and
have liberties with an independent government there was no going back, only forward. Paine had a
strong desire to see religious freedom become possible, and for people to have the right to choose and

Senior Class President Research Paper
Good morning class of 2016 , I m Nichaela Hoffman and I am running for Senior Class President.
What I can contribute as senior class president is a reliable person who peers can trust that their voices
will be heard and put into accountability. As president I will make sure our senior year is a year to
remember. My goal is to be a president that my class can come to for advice and for anything they
want to see during their senior year. I m not going to be a president who will promise all theses ideas,
which will end up as broken promises. I plan to have ideas that can actually go into effect. Such as
prom and senior activities. The point of being a class president is being a leader not a dictator. A
person where your class can come to about

  • 2. Gristan Und Isolde Analysis Richard Wagner changed the world s understanding and perception of opera when he composed, Tristan und Isolde . This opera is based on the romantic legend, Tristan , by Gottfried von Strassburg. What distinguishes this particular work from anything else of its time is the foundation and meaning of love and the untraditional love story that unfolds. Wagner does not hesitate to violate the collective regard for the love of life and, in turn, the life of love. By writing his own libretto, Wagner s opera symbolizes what perfect love is and the way in which it contributes to eternal life and death. Over the course of his life, Wagner was regarded as a determined and somewhat controversial individual. His compositional works are no exception to these characteristics. This is largely due to the fact that his libretto writing is reflective of his own experiences and feelings. When he had written Tristan und Isolde , Wagner was coping with drama and complication in his personal life. At this point of his life he was married to Minna Planner. Their relationship faced some hardship and developed into a rigid partnership. During this time, Wagner was a very vulnerable being and took comfort in his companion, Mathilde Wesendonk. Her husband, Otto Wesendock, was a very wealthy banker and a patron of Wagner s work. He provided Wagner with a small villa to reside in to continue composing and inventing. Eventually, Mathilde moved in next door to Wagner. As their relationship continued to flourish, they progressed from a teacher and student dynamic to adulterous lovers. Unfortunately, the situation resulted in a crisis, exposing their inappropriate relationship in the process. This turn of events inspired Wagner to write the libretto of Tristan und Isolde as he was left with dissatisfaction and unfulfilled passion. This turn of events in his life prompted Wagner to stop writing another one of his most highly regarded pieces, Der Ring des Nibelungen , to begin writing Tristan und Isolde . One of the more notable pieces of inspiration of his libretto resulted after meeting philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer. Many of Schopenhauer s ideas were eye opening and impactful on Wagner s general perception. His first form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Recommendations The present scenario of drug abuse in NE India is very alarming as the future of the states is in ruin. Three simultaneous actions are recommended to resolve the problem. These are checking the trans border smuggling of drugs, tackling the existing drug users and deterring fresh case. These can be implemented through strict vigil, Systematic De addiction and Rehabilitation Programme (SDRP) and by generating scope for healthy livelihood. Strict Vigil The very first challenge is to impose strict check at the international borders again drug trafficking. The second challenge is to increase awareness regarding the adverse effect of drug abuse through mass campaigning. • 5. Constructivism And Realism Paradigm Analysis The three main paradigms of international relations are liberalism, realism, and constructivism. In regards to a zombie outbreak, each paradigm will predict a different outcome for survival and cooperation. A liberal would argue that zombies represent a classic problem of dying and then coming to life in an undead state and trying to make others to do so as well. Undoubtedly, the zombie dispute would cross borderlines and affect all states, so the benefits from policy coordination would be massive. A realist would argue that international politics would not be remarkably affected, at its main, with the introduction of zombies into the mix of politics. Constructivism argues society is what we perceive it to be, so zombies are what we make of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More humans will come to one with the zombie way of undead life, as it were, the remaining humans would feel social pressure to conform and eventually adopt the norms and practices of zombies kind of like towards the end of Shaun of the Dead. In the end, even humans would adopt zombie constructed perceptions of right and wrong, and when it s appropriate to grunt in a menacing manner. Constructivism emphasizes the significance of beliefs, values, norms, and identities in constructing social reality and ultimately shaping a state s behavior. As one scholar compressed the constructivist paradigm, anarchy is what states make of it (Wendt 391). Transnational norms, relationships, and identities are shaped over time as states interact with one another; these identities and norms, in turn, mutually construct state behavior. As opposed to realists, who argue that anarchy unavoidably leads to competition for power and conflict, constructivists maintain that the lack of central authority in worldwide politics has no inherent qualities that enact upon states a specific pattern of behavior. Therefore, constructivism opens the door to a wide variety of policy responses to a particular challenge. Applying the constructivist perspective to the fictional zombie apocalypse scenario, Drezner contends that the existential peril posed by zombies could be the exogenous shock needed to break down ... Evolution Of The Female Professional Statistics Evolution is something that has occurred since the beginning of time and as the decades go on, evolution continues to occur throughout various aspects of life. One of these prominent spectrums is the work place. While women have not always blossomed in the business world, the female professional statistics have begun and continued to increase as time has. Although there is more gender equality amongst several companies, the numbers aren t necessarily where they should be. According to an article by Warner, women make up 50.8% of the population, only 14.6% of those women hold executive positions in the workplace. Even less are top earners and less than 5% are Fortune 500 CEO s. The numbers continue to drop for women of color as only 11.9% hold positions at the manager level (Warner, 2014). And according to the article by Kranc (2014), ...although women make up 19 percent of director positions within the S P 100, they represent only 8 percent of the highest paid executives (Kranc, 2014). These numbers provided by Warner are proof that there are still problems regarding the growth of women in the corporate world, especially when the women are of a minority background. • 7. Drinking Water Safety Is Not New A pressing issue in todays society is the growing concern over the accessibility of safe, clean drinking water. Following a crisis in Flint, Michigan, where public officials ignored dangerous levels of lead in the city s drinking water and thousands of children were exposed to dangerous levels of lead in their water. Beyond the obvious issues in Flint, however, there remain many problems surrounding safe drinking water. Though options to fix these problems exist, it remains challenging to find a solution that does not ask too much from small city governments that cannot afford these fixes. Further, this issue is both partisan, and impacts individuals as well with the potential to raise their taxes and make them shoulder some of the cost to rebuild and improve the infrastructure of their cities. Though the United States has some of the safest drinking water in the world, the recent crisis in Flint has brought the issue of drinking water safety to the forefront as many scandals are discovered and calls for improvement are made. The issue of drinking water safety is not new, however many citizens do not appreciate the work and money that goes into providing this water. There are many steps that must take place, and several systems that clean the water and deliver it to them. The most pressing issues surrounding this are lead contamination from different pipes and sources, and contamination from the introduction of chemicals to the water before and after treatment centers ... It is widely believed that the more lather a product generates, the better it is at cleaning. This belief, which is promoted through the marketing of products is incorrect, however, having become accustomed to copious amounts of lather in our beauty products, it has become the norm to expect it and to think more highly of products based (sometimes) solely on how much lather they generate. Perhaps our love of lather begins in infancy and childhood when we are enticed to our baths by the presence of lots of white bubbles and spend countless minutes popping and blowing them. Perhaps we take this childlike wonder and love of bubbles into adulthood because we are apt to wonder just how clean or hair or skin is if our shampoo, soap or bod wash did not create lots of foam. Now we will discuss a brief history of early atomic battery development. Henry G. J. Moseley, known for developing the Atomic Number and numerous other contributions to physics and chemistry, created the first known atomic battery in 1913 with his demonstration of the beta cell. He experimented with a radioactive isotope of the element radium, and the respective emissions of beta particles, to form the first atomic battery (source 5). This first crude battery saw minimal success and effectiveness, and it wasn t until 1954 when the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began studying atomic batteries for the use of small radio receivers and hearing aids that atomic batteries became practical and more potential was realized (source 6). Moving forward to the 1980 s, inventor Paul Brown developed an atomic battery that was much more powerful than most thermal batteries out at the time. Brown used the emission of alpha and beta particles in radioactive materials to create an extremely powerful magnetic field. As discussed before, these alpha and beta particles contain kinetic energy to help collide atomic particles. The energy produced from this system was so rapid and immense that controlling the cell was extremely difficult. This premise was completely accurate and disheartening for David Toschi, the lead detective on the case because he could not uncover concrete evidence to convict Arthur Leigh Lee Allen. Lee was the prime suspect in the investigation and all signs pointed to him being Zodiac, which was the main similarity between the publication and motion picture. In addition, the text contained two prime suspects, but the feature film fixated on one. Graysmith later went to say, The film ends by hinting that Zodiac may be the man behind you in the theatre (Zodiac). He was articulating how they should be vigilant at all times because Zodiac could be the person juxtaposed to them and never know it. People may look ordinary but in reality, everybody is insane, some just suppress it better than others. Zodiac written by Graysmith had several parallels with the motion picture directed by David Fincher, but the main similarity was the accusation of Arthur Leigh Allen being Zodiac. Both the novel and the film focused on Lee being the main suspect considering all signs pointed to him, even though law enforcement officers did not have sufficient evidence to validate it. Zodiac allegedly murdered 37 civilians, although only 7 were substantiated to be Zodiac with 2 survivors: Mike Mageau and Bryan Hartnell. However, the cinema and publication both prompted scrutiny to the deaths of David Faraday, Betty Lou Jensen, Darlene Ferrin, Cecelia Shepard, and Paul Stine. Each of their unfortunate demises all corresponded to Lee s whereabouts (Zodiac). The timeline made an impeccable match, but the evidence was not substantial for conviction. Lee was the only suspect served with a search warrant, after searching Lee s trailer they uncovered incriminating evidence, but his handwriting did not match Zodiac s (Collins). • 21. Similarities Between Julius Caesar And The French Revolution Ancient Rome and the French Revolution were, although both a long time ago, very different political atmospheres. As captured by William Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Julius Caesar was becoming a dictator with only the beloved Marcus Brutus to save the people. While, flash forward a few thousand years, in the French Revolution, anyone with a high social standing was murdered as shown by Jacques Louis David s painting, The Death of Marat. The two historical events seem wildly different except for the killers. Charlotte Corday and Marcus Brutus are comparable via their public image, murder weapon, and motive. The essential part to any murder is a motive, which both Corday and Brutus had. Both eliminated their victims for selfless reasons. The only reason Corday killed was because Marat was seen as a threat to the success of the French Revolution for the good of the people Corday murdered him. Corday executed because that was what she thought was the right thing to do with was similar to Brutus. Brutus was a man for the people and would have done anything for them. Caesar was his friend, however, he still killed him because he believed it was in the best interest of the Roman people. Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I...loved Rome more (Shakespeare III.ii.21 22). This line shows Brutus motivation was for the people which is similar to Corday. Despite this similarity, the murders were still very different. Brutus had the ability to consult with several people on the repercussions of the murder whereas Corday acted completely alone. This meant that Brutus was well aware and was able to consult with several people to make sure that the murder was valid while Corday did not have that. Both factors affected the affairs as a whole once again showing how similar but, different Corday and Brutus are. Another significant similarity between Brutus and Corday was their chosen murder weapon. As portrayed in the painting with the knife laying on the floor it is inferred that that was what Corday used to kill Marat (David). David also painted a stab wound on the body of Marat to show where exactly the fatal injury was inflicted (David). Both images give an impression of how the murder took ... Statement Of Purpose For Graduate Study Conrad Damstra Statement of Purpose for Graduate Study Philosophy Doctoral Program at Stanford University I wouldn t be doing philosophy if I didn t think it progressed, and that we know now more than we did a century ago. For that reason, I don t view its history as a story of the clash of defensible but irreconcilable views, from which the most we can expect is a sympathetic understanding of how things looked to the participants. (Scott Soames) For the value of the history of philosophy . . . lies not only in the fact that we can learn from our predecessors how to address in different ways the questions that concern us, but also in the fact that we can learn from them how to ask different questions, or how to ask our questions differently. (Paul Franks) These quotes provide different pictures about the history of philosophy. The notion of progress plays a key role in Soames account. Because we know more now than we did in the past, Soames claims the history of philosophy should involve a careful analysis of both the achievements and insights that have allowed the field to progress as well as the missteps which have frustrated this process. Soames would have history vindicate our current philosophical understanding. Paul Franks, on the other hand, wants to problematize this straightforward account of how we progressed from the past to the present. He does this by leaving open the possibility that important questions may cease to be raised and that certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The old tradition of justice, the private blood feud, caused an ungoverned succession of violent acts that spiralled uncontrollably. Aegisthus, Clytemnestra s lover, is introduced in Agamemnon; he desires vengeance for the plot contrived by Agamemnon s father (Ag: 1605 1611).1 Neither Agamemnon nor Aegisthus took part in this plot and yet as the chorus explains (Ag: 755 6) But ancient Violence longs to breed, new violence comes when its fatal hour comes, The justice system of this period demanded that one avenge the death of a family member, this can be seen in The Libation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the violent acts of reprisal do not end with Agamemnon. With this act comes a twist within the traditional system of justice. In The Libation Bearers, Orestes must choose to avenge his father s murder. The twist comes in that by avenging his father, Orestes will be committing matricide, a crime revolting to the gods and especially to the Furies. Orestes is placed in a no win situation; he must avenge his father or else be plagued by (Lib: 285 6) .................leprous boils that ride the flesh, their wild teeth gnawing the mother tissue, Unfortunately, the same fate awaits him if he commits matricide, thereby avenging his father. Orestes chooses the latter and is besieged by the hounds of mother s hate. (Lib: 1055 6). Through this sequence of murderous events, Aeschylus demonstrates the complexity and futility of the blood feud as a system of justice. There are no winners, and the cycle of violence does not end. Thus, this cycle of vengeance is not justice. In the Eumenides, Aeschylus manifests a new system of justice for the more civilised times. Orestes, plagued by the Furies, turns to Apollo (Eum: 88 90) Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice know them well. Now learn

Although we can not ignore the cloud around this administration when it comes to potential incentives that going to war presented, (such as oil for profits and retaliation to Saddam Hussein for the Gulf War and treatment of President Bush Sr.), I will look beyond these potential motives to explain why the U.S. involvement in the Iraq War was unjust simply because it doesn t fall into any of the four functions of force authored by Robert J. The easiest way to prove that was to find the weapons of mass destruction or supported programs. Leaving aside the fact that many do not accept this interpretation even in principle, the U.S.( Britain, its primary military ally) needed to demonstrate that Iraq s weapons of mass destruction compatibility was imminent. They failed to do so, both before and after the war. (276) This strike doesn t fit as a defense of preemptive, (an attack in hours or days), nor does it fit for defense of preventive, (an attack in months or years). The U.S. had successfully attacked a harmless country. The next function of force according to Art is deterrence. This serves to prevent the enemy from doing something that one doesn t want him to do and that he might otherwise be tempted to do by threatening him with unacceptable punishment if he does. In essence this is the threat of retaliation for deviating from one s requests. The effectiveness of the threat depends upon the states credibility for carrying out the threat, and the United States being the superpower that it is, had all the credibility needed to have the full attention of the Iraqi leader. This is why Hussein complied with the UN in 2002 with the Security Council Resolution 1441. In the second year of the insurrection against the Sheriff of Nottingham, the tide of events is turning against Robin Hood and his men. The revolt, which began as a personal crusade inspired by anger, is feeling the consequences of not having a long term strategy or plan. Therefore, in order for the revolt to succeed, Robin Hood and the Merrymen do need to establish a new mission, new objectives, and a new strategy to achieve their goals. 3. What strategic options does Robin Hood have? Is continuing with the present strategy an option or is the present strategy obsolete? The potential strategic options of Robin Hood are to continue on with no major changes, to institute a fixed transit tax, to pursue geographic expansion, to try to kill the Sheriff, or to accept the barons offer. While continuing with the present strategy and stealing from the rich to give to the poor is a viable option, it has more future negative consequences than positive ones. The mere fact that the Merrymen are growing at such a fast pace suggests that the present strategy is beginning to be obsolete, and furthermore, travelers are wiser and are avoiding Sherwood Forest altogether. The characters use literary devices to show the love they have for each other. Shakespeare use juxtaposition, oxymoron, and/ or paradox as indirect characterization to describe their complex personalities. Romeo is passionate when it comes to his elaborate feelings; at first, Romeo just fell in love with Juliet for her beauty, but he overcomes that and loves all of Juliet s qualities too. • 32. Gunpowder Plot Analysis Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that was published in 1623. The Gunpowder Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England. The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon closer analyzation, the two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the Gunpowder Plot had on the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution are themes from the Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth. The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England is bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen, her first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead by Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The conspirators wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were out of the picture. The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his parliament members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room that parliament was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where parliament was to meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of gunpowder into the rented room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited. The additional conspiracy members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant (www.historylearningsite.co.uk). The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. Gender Norm Media And Culture Name: Po Chin Wu RIN: 661401218 Course: STSS 1520 Sociology Date: 10/9/2015 Gender norm in media and culture Dozens of action movies are produced every year by Hollywood. Not to mention how widely most violent scenes such as guns and kills are accepted in most of them. Although most may view them only as entertainments, it is undeniable that the overexposed ideas of power and dauntless from not only the movies but our daily media had slowly changed our social norms toward gun and violent. Over 900 mass shootings, defined as having four or more fatalities in one incident by CNN, has happened in less than three years since 2013. When in fact, as TV news and newspapers intended to inform titles like a student opened fire or people are shot dead in a historic black church , almost none marked out the issue on gender or men in the titles. African Americans, psychotics, Mexicans, and immigrants are more often to be written in contents of violence, whereas only few articles wrote about white men, who also build up a big part of our masculinity society. In the past, violence came from anger in specific reasons; today, violence has become a way to represent our toughness and masculinity. Not only did our popular culture lead us to a narrower idea of distinct gender behaviors, such as men to be brave and women to be sensitive, our media provides us even more contents toward normalizing what should be violent and incorrect. One side would be for the mine and say that the economic benefits would outweigh the negative effects on the environment, while the opposing side would say the opposite. To begin, those who are for mining would say that the Back Forty will have positive effects on the economy in places near it. Many people could assume that opening a mine could create more jobs, and essentially help the economy.
