Compare And Contrast Jefferson And Colby s Survey
At their core, both ordnance Thomas Jefferson s Land ordnance of 1785 and Thomas Colby s survey
of Ireland were attempts at surveying and quantifying absolute space with the aim of eventually
transforming it into abstract space. In Jefferson s case, the land was surveyed so that settlers and
prospectors could purchase farmland west of the Appalachian Mountains, north of the Ohio River and
East of the Mississippi River. This was done as a method of raising revenue as Congress didn t yet
possess the power to use taxation as a source of revenue. It was also carried out to minimize disputes
over land borders and to give landowners a concrete idea of the land that they owned. In Colby s
survey s case, it was used as way of similarly as a way of taking ... Show more content on

Unlike Jefferson s survey however, it was also carried out with the intent of planning and mapping the
land out militarily. This was a deterrent to potential Irish rebels following the O Neill s rebellions and
the murder of Richard Bartlett and other cartographers. In terms of methods of organisation and
measurement, Colby s survey employed concrete triangulation posts placed on the placed on the
summits of many Irish peaks and mountains, many of which can still be seen to this day. Another tool
developed for the survey was powerful Drummond or Limelight which produced a very intense, white
light which could be seen for miles once lit. Due to these developments, the maps finalized in 1846 at
a scale of six inches to one mile were a world first in terms of accuracy and increased detail for urban
areas. Jefferson s survey, which took place almost forty years earlier, used an arguably more primitive
yet organized method of organizing lands into tessellating squares of thirty six square miles called
townships. These

Tulane Scholarship
My parents have always encouraged me to strive to be my best self. They ve always wanted me to
attend college so that I could follow my dream of going to medical school to become a physician. This
scholarship would not only help pay for college expenses, but encourage me to succeed.
I plan to attend Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Out of the six schools I applied to I was
accepted to all and offered scholarships to all but one. I chose Tulane because of its academic rigor
and great location. I m not set on a major yet, but it will most likely be neuroscience, biochemistry, or
cell and molecular biology. It is also extremely possible that I will double major in two of my three
choices. As for minors, I want to study French, political

Norm Violation Essay
I believe what Garfinkel means in background assumptions is how we commonly go throughout the
day and the order we do things in. In my norm violation I am going to not follow the order my culture
eats dinner in. The norm violation I decided to do is ordering dessert first at a restaurant. This is a norm
violation because you are suppose to order your appetizer first, then your entree and lastly your
dessert. I decided that Fender s Diner would be an excellent place to do my experiment. I dine here a
good bit and usually order their salads so this will be different for me. Fenders Diner is a locally
owned restaurant known for its 1950 s Rock n Roll American theme. On a Sunday after church lets out
is when I decided to do to do my ethnomethodology experiment. I also brought my sister who is
known for her sweet tooth. As we sit down at our table our slightly overweight waiter immediately
greets us. We order chocolate milkshakes and our waiter smiles and says, Wait! No lemon water this
time? This is the first reaction we received. It made me feel a little nervous because if he is already
reacting to our drinks, how is he going to react to the rest of the dinner. After we receive our
milkshakes we ordered our ice cream brownie delux. Our waiter laughs and asks if that would be all. I
explain to him that we would still like an entree but that we want our dessert first. We then order a
burger and some fries. He then warns us that we may start looking like him if we keep this up this diet.
This made me uncomfortable because I was unsure how to respond ... Show more content on

Herman Melville s Moby-Dick
In 1851, after reading information from Owen Chase s diary and selecting information from his own
experience, Herman Melville wrote Moby Dick, a story about a one legged captain in search of the
whale responsible for devouring his leg, which is considered one of the greatest novels in American
literature. Herman Melville, born on August 1, 1819, admired every aspect of literature from a young
age. Having lost his father when he was only 13, he was forced to go to work to provide for his family.
Writing wasn t a priority for the young Melville but it was definitely inspirational to him. Herman was
influenced by many authors such as: William Shakespeare, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe,
Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and more. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Romantics believed that natural law was determined by God, not humans or science. After crash
landing on Ducie Island, first mate Owen Chase and Captain George Pollard had a conflicting
discussion on death. With Chase finding a cave full of skeletons, Pollard believed the men were
destined to die on the island as all other men having landed on the island before them appeared to have
done. Pollard believed that if the men continued to sail, it would lead to imminent death for the crew.
Chase disagreed and believed that they must try to return to Nantucket. Chase believed God didn t just
plant the men on a random island to die, but obviously had a plan in mind for them. Chase didn t
accept the opinion that just because the men were on that island, they were destined for death. Just
because former men had died on the island didn t mean they would, Captain Pollard was using human
reasoning rather than believing God had a specific set of plans in place for these men. Another
Romantic idea was that pleasure could come from the less organized and irrational things in life as
well as the organized and rational. Romanticists felt that things that weren t considered to be
functional, idealistic, and enjoyable, may indeed be just as or more pleasurable than things that were
considered functional, idealistic, and enjoyable. Whaling was considered a dangerous, time
consuming, mess of a job during

The Contribution of the Labelling Theory to Our Understanding of Crime and Deviancy
We can call a label, or define it as; a mark, name, or even badge.
Something is only deviant, or becomes deviant because someone has been successful in labelling it as,
deviancy is ambiguous, definitions differ from society to society or even culture to culture.
Calling something deviant is a reaction to a type of behaviour.
The labelling theory is very complex, it asks why some people committing crimes are named deviant
but others are not.
Labelling theorists believe when you label offenders as criminals, yobs, this has negative
consequences, deepening and worsening the criminal behaviour.
There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A strength of labelling theory approach to deviance is that it not only concentrates on the social
reaction to deviance committed by individuals, as well as concentrating on the interaction processes
leading to the labelling, these being two important elements of the theory.
The effects on the Individual of labelling are especially important.
Having being labelled, as a deviant, the individual according to Becker, then will accept the label, and
for example turn to the life of crime, possibly with the help of a deviant subculture, feeling they have
no other alternative.
The last part of the labelling theory is, deviant career , this being when the labelled criminal evolves
into a complete, absolute deviant.
Kai T Erikson (1966) also highlights the way social reaction affects the individual, he supports and
reinforces what Becker suggests, he further suggests that deviance in a society is essential, and is
beneficial for creating a boundary between good and evil.
Furthermore there are a number of policy implications to do with the labelling theory, a vast majority
of them are impractical, such as the emphasis on rehabilitation, in helping the offenders be
rehabilitated from the label, although negatively some will not agree to participate in this.
Another implication is that criminal law

Symbolism In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour
There are many phrases in the English language that, when analyzed, don t make sense at all. For
example, the kiss of death is one of these phrases. Typically we think of a kiss as something nice, a
way of affection from a partner, a parent, grandparent, or even friend. So pairing this joyful word with
something that so many people dread is admittedly an odd choice. Used as a marking of fate, a kiss of
death is a concept that seems very taboo, but really this comparison of light and dark has been used
more often than we may think. In Kate Chopin s short story, The Story of an Hour , she utilizes
imagery by using language that is often self contradictory. With her combination of dark and cheerful
imagery, Chopin creates a very uneasy mood throughout the story that helps to reflect Mrs. Mallard s
emotional conflict with her physical surroundings.
After Mr. Mallards announced death, Chopin used the sky as a type of symbolic imagery. In a state of
suspension, Mrs. Mallard stood at the open window, looking out at the scenery in front of her house.
As she looked out the window, she saw that There were patches of blue sky showing here and there
through the clouds that had met and piled one above the other, (Chopin 1). In this example, Chopin
uses her imagery to reflect the stress that is being lifted from Mrs. Mallard. Over the course of her
marriage, Louise Mallard had been suppressing these feelings of entrapment, causing them to build on
themselves like the heavy weight

Undocuscholar Coalition Reflection
One of the speakers that I was able to connect to was the SSU UndocuScholar Coalition, I m also an
undocumented student and I was able to share my experiences with these speakers. I can speak for
myself, when I first came to SSU, I experienced some discrimination because I m an undocumented
student, and because I m brown. It sounds ridiculous that these things still happen, specially here at
Sonoma State University. At some point I felt like dropping out because of how I was treated, but I
told myself I m better than them, and I m going to prove them wrong. It s not an easy journey to
college for undocumented students, specially for first generation students, who have never been
exposed to this type of environment. Not just in education but we also struggle with having some type
of representation on this country. Specially now with the new president we have, we don t feel safe

Disengagement Theory Is The First Formal Theory Of Aging
Disengagement theory is the first formal theory of aging. It was first proposed in 1961 by Elaine
Cumming and William Hendry. They both were researchers from the University of Chicago. The two
developed their theory in their book Growing Old: The Process of Disengagement. In the book they
criticized the implicit theory that people can adjust, be satisfied, and happy in old age. They can also
be physically involved and remain active throughout their lives. Cumming and Henry argued that
normal aging involves a natural and inevitable mutual and inevitable mutual withdrawal or
disengagement, resulting in decreasing interaction between an aging person and others in the social
system he belongs to. Because of the inevitability of death, the society and the individual mutually
server their ties in advance so that the death of the individual will not be disruptive to the social
system. The disengagement theory results in decreasing interaction between aging person and social
system. Disagreement occurs when the individual becomes aware of the shortness of life and the
amount of time left. The individual wants to disengage by reducing the number of roles the individual
plays. One of the most controversial things about this theory would be that the idea of disengagement
was a universal meaning. Universal means it happens everywhere and in all historical areas.
Inevitable, means that it happens sometimes to everyone. Lastly, intrinsic is cause by biological
factors rather than

are the best results the company can expect? (employee prospective and company perspective are

(suggestion: ongoing activities and in the time proximal to the performance review) It is important to
make time for pre appraisal activities to make sure that the benefits are at max potential. It will hurt
the chances of maximizing gains for both the company and the employee if the following activities are
not done beforehand. The most important thing when it comes to being ready for the performance
appraisal is being well prepared. The manager needs to make sure that he sets aside enough time to
perform the pre appraisal activities. These activities include establishing a time for the appraisal and
relating it to the employee, making sure to lay out all new and old goals for the employee, giving the
employee an advance copy of the review, collecting the employee s review of themselves, and
collecting all notes taken that may validate your points and emphasize your decisions as well as the
last performance appraisal. It is important to make sure that the employee has enough time to prepare
for the appraisal. This allows for quality feedback from them and will also lead to quality questions. In
order to make it the most beneficial appraisal possible, then both sides need to be well prepared. Goals
and expectations will be completely understood if both parties have an idea of what s expected of
them. The employee can have questions ready for things that they may not understand. There may be
instances where they can ask for additional training in areas

Islamic Law And Islamic Banking
Forty years ago, the Islamic banking industry was created, on a modest scale, to fill a gap in a banking
system that was not listening to the fervent Muslim believers. Morocco has been following the same
development in offering Islamic finance services to its citizens through Islamic windows in
conventional banks. In parallel to this development of the Islamic financial industry in Morocco, it
seems very crucial to evaluate critically based on Maliki law school the previous experience of Islamic
windows in conventional banks. Taking into considerations, the differences between schools in the
interpretation and implementation of Islamic law in economy life, the objective of this paper was to
critically analysis the practice of Islamic banks in Morocco. This paper aimed at analyzing the
characteristics of different schools of Islamic law and how this would affect Islamic banking. The final
aim of this paper was to highlight the importance of jurisprudence/ new interpretations in developing
Islamic banking. Qualitative methodology based on semi directive interviewees was the main
approach for this paper. Three levels of gaps have been found out. These gaps are related respectively

Definition Of Clinical Governance And Accountability
Introduction:
Within this assignment, the definition of clinical governance and accountability will be explored and
discussed using a literature search. A case example will be used and briefly discuss the accountability
of the nurse and other health professionals of professional standards, local polices and law.
Confidentiality has been maintained within the use of the case example.
A literature search was carried out for clinical governance using the British Nursing Index (BNI).
Results originated from 9,616 when Clinical Governance was inputted. Results reduced significantly
when definition of clinical governance was inputted to 1,278 into the BNI titles were read, before
articles were chosen for abstracts to be read. After abstracts were read, if appropriate the full articles
were read (see appendices 1). Clinical governance was first introduced by the World Health
Organisation (WHO) (Som, 2009) . Som, (2004) definition of clinical governance focuses on
Managing systems to improve outcomes of health care service delivery, the WHO (1998) definition
also focuses on improving health care services but additionally focuses on professional performance,
resource allocation risk management and patient satisfaction. Department of Health (DoH) (1998) has
described clinical governance as a framework which focuses on accountability of health care services
to improve services. Scally and Donaldson (1998) used the same definition in 1998. A contemporary

Use Of Baculoviruses As Expression Vectors
Abstract:
Abstract for general audience:
Introduction:
The first research article explaining the use of baculoviruses as expression vectors in insect cells was
published in the early eighties (Smith et al., 1983). Baculovirus based expression systems have been
used for more than twenty years. During the last two decades, the baculovirus expression system has
improved tremendously, from its humble origin in the early 1960s. However, the robust system for the
expression of proteins is yet to be exhausted (Granados et al., 1994).
Baculoviruses are present in invertebrates (moths and mosquitos) and they have a genome which
consists of covalently closed circular supercoiled double stranded DNA which contains approximately
between 80 to 180kbp (van Oers and Vlak, 2007). Autographa californica multiple
nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) is isolated from the Alfalfa looper and is the most used species of
baculoviruses for protein expression and it relies on the lepidopteran species spodopterra frugiperda
(Sf) as a host cell (Fraser, 1986).
The wild type of AcMNPV baculovirus exhibits an occluded and a lytic life cycle that works
independently in the three phases (early, late and very late) of virus replication in the host cell. The
early phase is subdivided to immediate early gene and delayed early gene. In the early phase, viral
synthesis occurs within the first 6 hours. The host cell gene expression is ceased to allow viral DNA
replication to initiate and this phase includes

The Juche Ideology of North Korea Essay
Ideology can be looked at different perspectives of the way people think about it. Some people think
that ideology is bad, while some people think it is good. Ideology takes a very harmful way in
Christianity; Pope Francis explains to Christians that ideology drives away the church and the people.
In his perspective of mind, ideology is a serious illness. (Dolan) In some other places such as North
Korea, ideology is a dangerous belief system. North Koreans Ideology is most commonly referred as
Juche, this ideology is harmful to people because most people would like to praise people who do
good things, but in North Korea people have to pray to a dictator who is capable of killing, torturing,
and murdering his own people.

Kim Il Sung created this dangerous belief system so that North Koreans would always obey him.
Before Dictatorship North Korea was an independent nation, it was a colony full of Christians. Kim Il
Sung noticed how Christians worshipped the Japanese ruler who ruled Korea. When North Korea
declared as a country, Kim Il Sung changed the form of Christianity and he declared himself as a God
so that North Korea will always praise and pray him. Christians revolted against this, so Kim Il Sung
annihilated most of them because he did not want his own people suspecting him of Juche and put lots
of people in concentration camps and they still reside there. (Juche Religion) Juche originated from
Marxism Leninism. Marxism Leninism was created by Karl Marx, some of the main points in this
ideology are that a communist party should be able to perform and play major roles in society. Some
other beliefs in Marxism Leninism are that modern capitalism should turn into imperialism.
(Piskunov) North Korea gained inspiration from Marxism Leninism, which is why this ideology is one
of the main ideologies that Juche originated. Some other ideologies that Juche originated were
Confucianism. Confucianism was developed in China by a man named Kong Qiu (Confucius). Kong

Black History Month
Black history is remembering African Americans and their roles they contributed to the U.S. society. It
was in those times that people for color fought for equality. We recognized them for their
accomplishments, achievements, and diversity of African Americans. In my opinion, people use the
premise of black history as only remembering people whom fought for civil rights, not the black
scientists, doctors, etc. whom made a difference in America. It was started as Negro history week by
Carter G. Woodson in 1926, then in 1976 President Ford officially recognized February as Black
History Month. But it does concerns me that our people of color are being memorialized once a month
and not spoked along with all American history throughout the year.

Ali And The Decline Of The Ottoman Empire
Following the death of Suleyman I in 1566, the Ottoman empire began a period of decline led by a
succession of poor sultans. The palace government broke up into numerous, corrupt factions, and
problems with theft led to financial losses. While coinage was losing value and causing inflation, the
once advanced empire fell behind technologically. Selim III came to power in 1789 with hopes of
reviving the Ottoman army, but fell short when the older janissary troops resisted and overthrew him.
At the same time, nationalist feelings, inspired by the now free Greece and self ruled Serbia, were
stirring among the Ottoman people. As Europeans were expanding their territory through 20th and

Russia hoped to gain access to the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, and twice Persia was forced to

between India and Russia. In 1857, despite resistance, Persia was forced to give up all claims to
Afghanistan. Persia as a nation lacked the funds to develop its abundant resources. In order to raise
capital and increase their economic standing, the Persian rulers began granting concessions, which
allowed businesses to purchase the right to operate in a certain place or to develop a certain product, to
Western businesses. The willingness of the leaders to sell concessions and the refusal of the people to
allow Western influence in their countries created tensions. In one such instance, Jamal al Din al
Afghani staged a tobacco boycott to protest Nasir al Din s selling of a concession to a British company
to export Persian tobacco. The boycott was effective, and leaders were forced to cancel the
concession. However, growing unrest as a result created proved uncontrollable. In 1907, Russian and
Britain had taken over the country and divided it into their own spheres of influence. The economic
control exercised over Persia thereafter is similar to the economic imperialism that many European

Clergy Church Economy
Imagine a state or a region where there are only Jesuit Priest and Sisters and let s call it Clergy Land.
Jesuit Priests and Sisters are bonded by the three vows, namely, vows of poverty, vows of celibacy and
vows of obedience. Under these vows they cannot own material, they can t have bank account, they
don t have any personal belongings and they are provided with limited amount of money to spend by
their seniors. In the first instance it seems the economy of clergy land will be a nascent market where
fixed sum of money will circulate in the economy. The economy will be more of socialist economy as
everyone has equal share of wealth. As every individual has the same fixed sum of money the buying
power of every individual will be limited. Trade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People from all over the world will come down to clergy land to get the blessings of Father s and
Sister s. This will be the main driver of economy of clergy land. The example of Holy city, Vatican, is
the right analogy to the clergy land. Parents will send their kids to study at clergy land, people from all
over the world will come down to clergy land to get blessings. The clergy land will be financially
supported by a variety of sources, including donations from Catholic individuals, entry fees to be paid
to visit the churches and investments made by the clergies to construct churches and educational
institutions. This will substantially change the economy of the clergy land. The economy which
seemed so dull and nascent, in turn will flourish and prosper. As they will have surplus money to
spend, they will expand and build educational institution all across which will attract students from
other place to spend money and study in their guidance. As clergies under the vows of poverty won t
have option to spend the surplus amount but to channelize the money to non budgetary fund which is
used directly for charity, disaster relief, and aid to churches in developing nations. The money will be

Having a baby shower is supposed to have some because people will buy the baby whatever they think
is needed. In reality the parents are still spending more. Some help is better than no help at all. Most
help get their help from government assistance programs like WIC (women, infants, and children)
which is designed to help provided nutrition for low income pregnant women. Thousands of dollars go
into having a baby and more as the child gets old. One thing you can t run out of is diapers, this is a
huge impact on the cost of having a baby because the baby will frequently get changed. The cost of
disposable diapers alone is $2,400 for one year that s why some people will use cloth diapers because
they are reusable and much cheaper. The cost of cloth diapers starts off at $600 of course you have to
wash them the cost of laundry soap is way cheaper than rebuying disposable diapers. On average a
family can save $2,000 in diapers alone if they switch to cloth

The Physical State Of Reverend Dimmesdale
The physical state of Reverend Dimmesdale mirrors the deterioration of Dimmesdale s mental and
moral state because of the guilt related to a lack of public confession. Because of Dimmesdale s
connection with the Puritan Church and his unconfessed sin, his mental health deteriorates to the point
of delusion. In order to lessen the guilt caused by his sin, Dimmesdale often practices nightlong fasts
and vigils. Those fasts and vigils fail to lessen his guilt because they constitute a private confession.
Because of the lack of public confession Dimmesdale starts to believe that he lives a lie; Dimmesdale
symbolizes a moral compass for the Puritan community but is an unpunished adulterer. Dimmesdale
and the Puritans believe that to the untrue man, the whole universe is false (Hawthorne 133).
Hawthorne means that untrue men, such as Dimmesdale, create a fake reality in which those untrue
men live in. Since Dimmesdale is an untrue man, his perception of what is real and what is false starts
to slip, and he begins having visions of his bastard daughter pointing her finger at the clergyman s
own breast and because Dimmesdale creates a false reality, his visions and hallucinations combine
with actual reality (Hawthorne 132). The guilt from Dimmesdale s false life grows to the point that his
[delusions] were, in one sense, the truest and most substantial things which the poor minister now
dealt with (Hawthorne 133). When there is no peril of discovery , an attempt to publically

Cause And Effect Of School Shootings
High school shootings have been occurring all over the country. All incidents leading to one or more
deaths: Jonesboro, Fayetteville, Edinboro, Pearl, Moses Lake, Grayson, Olivehurst, Bethel, West
Paducah, and many more. It will never happen to me, you could say, well, it could.y Behind school
shootings students spend one hundred and eighty days per year at school, they spend so much time
getting an education, but is the environment they re in actually safe? There are many causes of school
shootings and so they are effects.
The reality of the situation is that there are many numbers of reasons that a school shooting may
happen. There have been 142 school shootings in the United States since 2013, as indicated by a
record made by Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
There are many reasons we need to use for the reasons for school shootings however the most
prevalent one is harassing. According to nobullying.com, ¨Over 77 percent of students have been
bullied verbally, mentally, and physically. Each day about 160,000 students miss school because of
bullying or because of their fear of being bullied.¨ According to nveee.org, ¨86% of students said,
other kids picking on them, making fun of them or bullying them causes teenagers to turn to lethal
violence in schools.¨ When a student gets harassed or bullied it adds anger inside of them and hate.
The feeling of being picked on and having this negative attention can make a child act out or feel
hatred and somehow want a way to let the anger out. They could also have it all stuffed inside with all
of these horrible thoughts and one day decide to explode which could result in a horrible outcome.
Emotional wellness issues have been frequently shown another big cause of these shootings. Most
school shooters were mentally sick or demonstrated side effects of psychological wellness issues. An
opportunity for mental and psychiatric help could help stop these shootings. According to
newyorker.com, ¨, from 2011 and 2013, more people believe that mass shootings result from a failure
of the mental health system than from easy access to guns. Eighty per cent of the population believes
that mental illness is at least partially to

Veterinary Medicine Case Study
Introduction
Diagnosis of diseases in the veterinary field by using tissue/cell culture or antibodies, are adopted by
various techniques such as neutralization (Borchers et al., 2005; Taniguchi et al., 2000), Enzyme
Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) (Langedijk, et al., 2001), Agar Gel Immunodiffusion (Alvarez
et al., 2010) and Complement Fixation Test (CFT) (Hartley et al., 2005; Adone et al., 2008). In the
past few years ago onwards, the veterinary diagnosticians has been incorporated new molecular
techniques such as the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Western blot and improved older
techniques through the use of recombinant antigens, monoclonal antibodies and synthetic peptides

Molecular techniques also provide opportunities to improve antigens that are used to induce
polyclonal or monoclonal antibody production, select monoclonal antibodies that recognise specific
target epitopes and purify antisera for specific diagnostic purposes (Svobodova et al., 2013). Use of
synthetic peptides (those produced by connecting amino acids together in a specified sequence) for
use as positive controls in these assays provides an opportunity to include a specific positive control
without the risks involved in producing killed agents (Langedijk, et al., 2001). Recently, the use of
transgenic plants to express veterinary pathogen proteins has been shown to be an effective method of
producing large amounts of recombinant proteins without the use of animal origin materials (such as
foetal bovine serum or eggs) (Khandelwal et al., 2004, 28). These techniques have been predominantly
applied to the development or improvement of ELISAs and can be used to create highly sensitive

Personal Worldview Inventory. A “Worldview” Is The Term
Personal Worldview Inventory
A worldview is the term use to describe a complete way of viewing the world around you. Worldview
differs from person to person and can be determined by religion (Grand Canyon University [GCU],
2015) or by family customs; therefore, individual s worldview is something that was not developed
over night. It is something the person has learned and believed to be true their whole life which direct
the way they think, see the world around them and make decisions. With the different view and
mindsets of individuals, it is complicated to make everyone happy and this can create tension between
science and religion. The purpose of this paper is to write on a personal worldview inventory,

Pluralism
The understanding of the concept Pluralism is when different people from different class, religions,
race, culture, organizations, etc., are living together in a society and they continue to practice their
different traditions or interest, rather than just one group or culture determining how things go.
Pluralism recognized the fact that different religious or cultures have equal right to voice their ideas or
opinions. No one particular religion or worldview is privileged over others, therefore the truth is
beyond the ability of one group to capture.
Scientism
Scientism is the belief that the best or only way to have knowledge of reality is be means of sciences
(Moreland and Craig, 2003, pp. 246 350). In other word, scientism is calming that the only way to
gain knowledge is through science, therefore every other knowledge that is not form science is either
opinion or false. There is no thought that science has made a different in the society, but that does not
make science the only way to knowledge. There are some inadequacies of scientism, it should be
noted that moral, ethical, and religious claims all involved normative claims about the way the world
ought to be (Grand Canyon University [GCU], 2015).
Postmodernism

Marine parks such as SeaWorld hold many sea animals prisoner to confined concrete tanks with little

SeaWorld and it s abuse on Tilikum (a killer whale). Similarly, Lolita, an orca whale at Miami

to this matter by making a Free Lolita poster with the celebrity, Adriana de Moura testifying for Lolita
as well. The poster displays Adriana in a small white bathtub with bold print above stating, Could you

The ad claims Lolita lives alone in a tiny tank with chemically tested water and is being neglected.
This would appeal to an emotional audience invoking sadness and pity for Lolita enough to donate to
her release. Pathos could have been displayed better by showing a picture of Lolita in her small tank

Automobile Dependency and the Working Poor Essay
Automobile Dependency and the Working Poor David Shipler briefly mentions in The Working Poor
that lack of access to a car is one of the factors that make finding and holding a job difficult. A person
in need of a job may be unable to afford a car, since car ownership is so expensive, but they may need
a car because of urban sprawl and inadequate public transit networks. But just how serious is the
burden of car ownership, and how exactly does under funded public transit and urban sprawl
contribute to the need to take on this burden? The costs of car ownership concern motorists greatly, so
it isn t difficult to find information. AAA releases an annual brochure and report called Your Driving
Costs. Their 2004 brochure reports a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Retail establishments and big box retailers sprang up to support new residential growth, but their
employee base of unskilled workers was still largely based within the inner cities, making commutes
longer and more expensive. As jobs and people left the cities, many urban transit networks found
themselves going out of business. Many that survived were publicly acquired and heavily subsidized.
As a result, owning a car has become critical to the ability to seek, acquire and hold a job. For
example, a recent report by Washington think tank the Brookings Institution states that 32 percent of
Baltimore residents do not have cars. An Abell Foundation report says this endangers the ability of
these residents to get and keep a job. According to Brookings fellow Margy Waller, people with a car
are more likely to work, work more hours, and have a higher level of income. The Brookings
Institution proposes lowering the barriers to car ownership in order to help more Baltimoreans become
productive citizens. These barriers are high in Maryland, especially in Baltimore City, making car
access more difficult to achieve than it is on average. However, it is not clear whether car ownership is
a pathway to or a symptom of success. The Brookings Institution believes that it is the former, but the
truth is probably more complex. There is a strong movement for better public

The Cause Of Nathaniel Bacon s Rebellion
Nathaniel Bacon and his men, comprised of indentured servants, black slaves, and frontiersmen, ran
through the streets of Jamestown, plundering the plantation homes of gentry and eventually burning
Jamestown to the ground. This group was a testament to the rebellious potential of the plantation labor
force, namely indentured servants. Plantation owners had grown wary of indentured servants and due
to the hard labor, few free workers were willing to work on plantations, leaving no viable labor source
for the gentry to generate wealth. Over time, as slaves from Africa gradually replaced indentured
servants, the upper class instituted discriminatory laws prevent slaves from uprising. Thus, the upper
class did not intentionally propagate prejudice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earlier in the century, the legal difference between a slave and a servant was unclear. But now the law
began to make sharp distinctions between the two largely on the basis of race... This quote clearly
shows a shift in the legal definition of a slave to specifically the black race, making the black race
synonymous with slavery and inferiority. Although unintentional on part of the upper class, these laws
enculturated racism into colonial life, creating a class rift between whites and blacks. However, the
incorporation of prejudice and racism developed only after the slave trade was established. Racism
was not a prevalent social norm before American slavery. It was the potential combination of poor
whites and blacks that caused the most fear. If there had been the natural racial repugnance...control
would have been easier. This quote shows the low bar of prejudice in the early colonial times, as white
and blacks had rebelled together. Additionally, in the Old World, slavery was not a new concept, but it
had never been applied solely to the black population. Servants and poor whites were always at the
bottom rung of the social ladder in England; they were not naturally better than the black population.
However, in the colonies, servants and poor whites were unquestionably in a higher class than the
black population, a position of

Some unexpected results may have resulted in human error when determining absorbance versus time.
When using the GENESYS spectrophotometer, our group did not keep the proteins in the ice buckets

The Holistic Approach Of Education
The conceptual map, figure: 2.2 provides the summary of this discretion in a schematic form.
The Holistic Approach in Education Holistic education stands clear that learners, need a wide range of
skills to transform their lives, and that of others around them. Certainly educating children is not a
matter of flooding the market needs and fulfillment. According to Singh (2007), in the progressive
changing world, learners need the capability to deal with the indeterminable future. In point of fact, a
conventional wisdom pinpoints that a holistic education approach tackles all aspects of human
challenges (p. 107) in life. Then, he went on to ask, whether an education, support learners to create
capability, a useful key factor for the reconstruction of any country. The education system, scarcely
provides learners for instance, with skills for commendable eating habit. That, in turn leads to the
other question, of how often the education offers learners with the knowledge of avoiding the
consumption of alcohol, tobacco, or drug that may ruin their health (Singh, 2007). A few
aforementioned examples represent a segment of problems among others that children face daily, but
not offered in their learning process. Schools should not create receivers of fresh ideas, as a substitute,
instead support learners to ask questions in their learning process. Singh (2007) continues to argue that
education should support learners in the creation of strong body and mind for thinking,

Abuse of vulnerable adults
PRINCIPLES OF SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTION IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
Within the care sector there are many individuals who rely and depend on the help and support of
others such as nurses, social workers and support workers. When this level of trust and responsibility
exists it is important that these individuals are able to feel safe and confident and not at risk to abuse.
It is therefore our responsibility as carers to ensure there are safeguarding procedures in place to
protect all individuals from any form of abuse at all times. In order to effectively safeguard against
abuse within health and social care settings it is first important to identify types of abuse so as to see

This could be an individual missing meals or medication because staff fail to realise these needs have
not been met. In situations where staffing levels are insufficient this type of abuse is more likely to
arise as staff may be unable to cover the work load depriving individuals of care or support. It is also
essential to maintain high levels of staff communication to ensure information such as medicinal
requirements or hygiene routines are carried out, particularly with individuals who may have
communication difficulties or are non verbal. If an individual is displaying signs of poor hygiene, dirty
clothes or other visual indications that they are not being properly supported it is important to
investigate why and ensure this is not due to staff negligence. Discriminatory Discriminatory abuse
can be any form of abuse that has arisen from prejudice towards a person s beliefs, race, sexuality,
gender, disability, age etc. This is a very personal form of abuse and can be avoided by staff working
as a team and being aware of any personal problems/differences or conflicts of interest. It is important

Cardiovascular Disease, Atherosclerosis Essay
One source of great mortality and morbidity in Europe and North America is the cardiovascular
disease, Atherosclerosis. It is recognized as a chronic inflammatory disease of the intermediate and
large arteries characterized by the thickening of the arterial wall and is the primary cause of coronary
and cerebrovascular heart disease (Wilson, 2005). It accounts for 4.35 million deaths in Europe and
35% death in the UK each year. Mortality rate are generally higher in men than pre menopausal
woman. Past the menopause, a woman s risk is similar to a man s (George and Johnston, 2010).

Macrophage which is now foam like accumulates on the blood vessel to form visible fatty streak
which then undergoes apoptosis. The plaque continues to grow and hardens narrowing the arteries.
This ruptures and causes a blood clot which limits the flow of oxygen rich blood to the body causing a
heart attack, stroke or even death. Factors that are known to predispose to atherosclerosis are physical
inactivity, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, cigarette smoking and hypertension which increase the
chances by two fold by damaging the vascular endothelium. Experimental studies have just shown that
excess blood levels of iron can lead to atherosclerosis (Guyton and Hall, 2011).
2.0 Molecular and Cell based therapies
Presently, the treatment strategies used are risk factor modification, conventional pharmacology and
surgical revascularization. These strategies have hitherto not been of enormous solution as the disease
progression still result in recurrent symptoms. This has now led to the exploitation of advances in
comprehending the vascular biology of atherogenesis to introduce novel cell and molecular based
therapies. The application of immunomodulation, lipid lowering agents like statins, gene transfer,
antisense technology and so on has resulted in new therapeutic strategies to interrupt cell proliferation
and disorder of the vessel wall. In this essay, immunomudulation and lipid lowering agent shall be
discussed.

In the most recent years, domestic sales of wine has declined constantly. The wine consumption is
becoming more occasional. This is partially due to an aggressive anti alcohol campaign and driving
restrictions set by the local government, but also facilitated by a lack of marketing strategy: the wine
market is loosing touch with the youth (the average age of wine drinker is gone up from 35 to 55) and
young people are getting more keen to beer or alcohol pops.
Lowered domestic sales may result in a greater emphasis on exports, however the recent trend showed
how French exports continue to loose market share to the New World (see diagram below).
Global Trade Atlas Global Trade Information Source 2004
Considering France international reputation and image, it is useful to analyse its strengths and
weaknesses, taking into consideration the important differences existing between standard and
premium market.
Strengths: France remain quality leader in the premium market; its international image express
Sophistication, Tradition and Charm.
Weaknesses: There are many weak points to be addressed . The puzzling classification and labeling,
the unreliable quality, the rigid appellation d origine controlee which dictates strict rules on methods
of production (see more details on par.6.4) . Its international image is often seen as

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Jefferson And Colby s Survey At their core, both ordnance Thomas Jefferson s Land ordnance of 1785 and Thomas Colby s survey of Ireland were attempts at surveying and quantifying absolute space with the aim of eventually transforming it into abstract space. In Jefferson s case, the land was surveyed so that settlers and prospectors could purchase farmland west of the Appalachian Mountains, north of the Ohio River and East of the Mississippi River. This was done as a method of raising revenue as Congress didn t yet possess the power to use taxation as a source of revenue. It was also carried out to minimize disputes over land borders and to give landowners a concrete idea of the land that they owned. In Colby s survey s case, it was used as way of similarly as a way of taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike Jefferson s survey however, it was also carried out with the intent of planning and mapping the land out militarily. This was a deterrent to potential Irish rebels following the O Neill s rebellions and the murder of Richard Bartlett and other cartographers. In terms of methods of organisation and measurement, Colby s survey employed concrete triangulation posts placed on the placed on the summits of many Irish peaks and mountains, many of which can still be seen to this day. Another tool developed for the survey was powerful Drummond or Limelight which produced a very intense, white light which could be seen for miles once lit. Due to these developments, the maps finalized in 1846 at a scale of six inches to one mile were a world first in terms of accuracy and increased detail for urban areas. Jefferson s survey, which took place almost forty years earlier, used an arguably more primitive yet organized method of organizing lands into tessellating squares of thirty six square miles called townships. They ve always wanted me to attend college so that I could follow my dream of going to medical school to become a physician. This scholarship would not only help pay for college expenses, but encourage me to succeed. I plan to attend Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Out of the six schools I applied to I was accepted to all and offered scholarships to all but one. I chose Tulane because of its academic rigor and great location. I m not set on a major yet, but it will most likely be neuroscience, biochemistry, or cell and molecular biology. It is also extremely possible that I will double major in two of my three choices. • 4. Norm Violation Essay I believe what Garfinkel means in background assumptions is how we commonly go throughout the day and the order we do things in. In my norm violation I am going to not follow the order my culture eats dinner in. The norm violation I decided to do is ordering dessert first at a restaurant. This is a norm violation because you are suppose to order your appetizer first, then your entree and lastly your dessert. I decided that Fender s Diner would be an excellent place to do my experiment. I dine here a good bit and usually order their salads so this will be different for me. Fenders Diner is a locally owned restaurant known for its 1950 s Rock n Roll American theme. On a Sunday after church lets out is when I decided to do to do my ethnomethodology experiment. I also brought my sister who is known for her sweet tooth. As we sit down at our table our slightly overweight waiter immediately greets us. Herman Melville s Moby-Dick In 1851, after reading information from Owen Chase s diary and selecting information from his own experience, Herman Melville wrote Moby Dick, a story about a one legged captain in search of the whale responsible for devouring his leg, which is considered one of the greatest novels in American literature. Herman Melville, born on August 1, 1819, admired every aspect of literature from a young age. Having lost his father when he was only 13, he was forced to go to work to provide for his family. After crash landing on Ducie Island, first mate Owen Chase and Captain George Pollard had a conflicting discussion on death. With Chase finding a cave full of skeletons, Pollard believed the men were destined to die on the island as all other men having landed on the island before them appeared to have done. Pollard believed that if the men continued to sail, it would lead to imminent death for the crew. Chase disagreed and believed that they must try to return to Nantucket. Chase believed God didn t just plant the men on a random island to die, but obviously had a plan in mind for them. Chase didn t accept the opinion that just because the men were on that island, they were destined for death. Just because former men had died on the island didn t mean they would, Captain Pollard was using human reasoning rather than believing God had a specific set of plans in place for these men. Another Romantic idea was that pleasure could come from the less organized and irrational things in life as well as the organized and rational. The Contribution of the Labelling Theory to Our Understanding of Crime and Deviancy We can call a label, or define it as; a mark, name, or even badge. Something is only deviant, or becomes deviant because someone has been successful in labelling it as, deviancy is ambiguous, definitions differ from society to society or even culture to culture. Calling something deviant is a reaction to a type of behaviour. The labelling theory is very complex, it asks why some people committing crimes are named deviant but others are not. Labelling theorists believe when you label offenders as criminals, yobs, this has negative consequences, deepening and worsening the criminal behaviour. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A strength of labelling theory approach to deviance is that it not only concentrates on the social reaction to deviance committed by individuals, as well as concentrating on the interaction processes leading to the labelling, these being two important elements of the theory. The effects on the Individual of labelling are especially important. Having being labelled, as a deviant, the individual according to Becker, then will accept the label, and for example turn to the life of crime, possibly with the help of a deviant subculture, feeling they have no other alternative. The last part of the labelling theory is, deviant career , this being when the labelled criminal evolves into a complete, absolute deviant. Kai T Erikson (1966) also highlights the way social reaction affects the individual, he supports and reinforces what Becker suggests, he further suggests that deviance in a society is essential, and is beneficial for creating a boundary between good and evil. Furthermore there are a number of policy implications to do with the labelling theory, a vast majority of them are impractical, such as the emphasis on rehabilitation, in helping the offenders be rehabilitated from the label, although negatively some will not agree to participate in this. Another implication is that criminal law

  • 8. Symbolism In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour There are many phrases in the English language that, when analyzed, don t make sense at all. For example, the kiss of death is one of these phrases. Typically we think of a kiss as something nice, a way of affection from a partner, a parent, grandparent, or even friend. So pairing this joyful word with something that so many people dread is admittedly an odd choice. Used as a marking of fate, a kiss of death is a concept that seems very taboo, but really this comparison of light and dark has been used more often than we may think. In Kate Chopin s short story, The Story of an Hour , she utilizes imagery by using language that is often self contradictory. With her combination of dark and cheerful imagery, Chopin creates a very uneasy mood throughout the story that helps to reflect Mrs. Mallard s emotional conflict with her physical surroundings. After Mr. Mallards announced death, Chopin used the sky as a type of symbolic imagery. In a state of suspension, Mrs. Mallard stood at the open window, looking out at the scenery in front of her house. As she looked out the window, she saw that There were patches of blue sky showing here and there through the clouds that had met and piled one above the other, (Chopin 1). In this example, Chopin uses her imagery to reflect the stress that is being lifted from Mrs. Mallard. Over the course of her marriage, Louise Mallard had been suppressing these feelings of entrapment, causing them to build on themselves like the heavy weight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Disengagement Theory Is The First Formal Theory Of Aging Disengagement theory is the first formal theory of aging. It was first proposed in 1961 by Elaine Cumming and William Hendry. They both were researchers from the University of Chicago. The two developed their theory in their book Growing Old: The Process of Disengagement. In the book they criticized the implicit theory that people can adjust, be satisfied, and happy in old age. They can also be physically involved and remain active throughout their lives. Cumming and Henry argued that normal aging involves a natural and inevitable mutual and inevitable mutual withdrawal or disengagement, resulting in decreasing interaction between an aging person and others in the social system he belongs to. Because of the inevitability of death, the society and the individual mutually server their ties in advance so that the death of the individual will not be disruptive to the social system. The disengagement theory results in decreasing interaction between aging person and social system. Disagreement occurs when the individual becomes aware of the shortness of life and the amount of time left. The individual wants to disengage by reducing the number of roles the individual plays. One of the most controversial things about this theory would be that the idea of disengagement was a universal meaning. Universal means it happens everywhere and in all historical areas. • 19. Use Of Baculoviruses As Expression Vectors Abstract: Abstract for general audience: Introduction: The first research article explaining the use of baculoviruses as expression vectors in insect cells was published in the early eighties (Smith et al., 1983). Baculovirus based expression systems have been used for more than twenty years. During the last two decades, the baculovirus expression system has improved tremendously, from its humble origin in the early 1960s. However, the robust system for the expression of proteins is yet to be exhausted (Granados et al., 1994). Baculoviruses are present in invertebrates (moths and mosquitos) and they have a genome which consists of covalently closed circular supercoiled double stranded DNA which contains approximately between 80 to 180kbp (van Oers and Vlak, 2007). Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) is isolated from the Alfalfa looper and is the most used species of baculoviruses for protein expression and it relies on the lepidopteran species spodopterra frugiperda (Sf) as a host cell (Fraser, 1986). The wild type of AcMNPV baculovirus exhibits an occluded and a lytic life cycle that works independently in the three phases (early, late and very late) of virus replication in the host cell. The early phase is subdivided to immediate early gene and delayed early gene. In the early phase, viral synthesis occurs within the first 6 hours. The host cell gene expression is ceased to allow viral DNA replication to initiate and this phase includes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Physical State Of Reverend Dimmesdale The physical state of Reverend Dimmesdale mirrors the deterioration of Dimmesdale s mental and moral state because of the guilt related to a lack of public confession. Because of Dimmesdale s connection with the Puritan Church and his unconfessed sin, his mental health deteriorates to the point of delusion. In order to lessen the guilt caused by his sin, Dimmesdale often practices nightlong fasts and vigils. Those fasts and vigils fail to lessen his guilt because they constitute a private confession. Because of the lack of public confession Dimmesdale starts to believe that he lives a lie; Dimmesdale symbolizes a moral compass for the Puritan community but is an unpunished adulterer. Dimmesdale and the Puritans believe that to the untrue man, the whole universe is false (Hawthorne 133). Hawthorne means that untrue men, such as Dimmesdale, create a fake reality in which those untrue men live in. Since Dimmesdale is an untrue man, his perception of what is real and what is false starts to slip, and he begins having visions of his bastard daughter pointing her finger at the clergyman s own breast and because Dimmesdale creates a false reality, his visions and hallucinations combine with actual reality (Hawthorne 132). There are many causes of school shootings and so they are effects. The reality of the situation is that there are many numbers of reasons that a school shooting may happen. There have been 142 school shootings in the United States since 2013, as indicated by a record made by Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. There are many reasons we need to use for the reasons for school shootings however the most prevalent one is harassing. According to nobullying.com, ¨Over 77 percent of students have been bullied verbally, mentally, and physically. Each day about 160,000 students miss school because of bullying or because of their fear of being bullied.¨ According to nveee.org, ¨86% of students said, other kids picking on them, making fun of them or bullying them causes teenagers to turn to lethal violence in schools.¨ When a student gets harassed or bullied it adds anger inside of them and hate. The feeling of being picked on and having this negative attention can make a child act out or feel hatred and somehow want a way to let the anger out. They could also have it all stuffed inside with all of these horrible thoughts and one day decide to explode which could result in a horrible outcome. Emotional wellness issues have been frequently shown another big cause of these shootings. Most school shooters were mentally sick or demonstrated side effects of psychological wellness issues. An opportunity for mental and psychiatric help could help stop these shootings. According to newyorker.com, ¨, from 2011 and 2013, more people believe that mass shootings result from a failure of the mental health system than from easy access to guns. A person in need of a job may be unable to afford a car, since car ownership is so expensive, but they may need a car because of urban sprawl and inadequate public transit networks. But just how serious is the burden of car ownership, and how exactly does under funded public transit and urban sprawl contribute to the need to take on this burden? As jobs and people left the cities, many urban transit networks found themselves going out of business. Many that survived were publicly acquired and heavily subsidized. As a result, owning a car has become critical to the ability to seek, acquire and hold a job. For example, a recent report by Washington think tank the Brookings Institution states that 32 percent of Baltimore residents do not have cars. An Abell Foundation report says this endangers the ability of these residents to get and keep a job. According to Brookings fellow Margy Waller, people with a car are more likely to work, work more hours, and have a higher level of income. The Brookings Institution proposes lowering the barriers to car ownership in order to help more Baltimoreans become productive citizens. These barriers are high in Maryland, especially in Baltimore City, making car access more difficult to achieve than it is on average. Plantation owners had grown wary of indentured servants and due to the hard labor, few free workers were willing to work on plantations, leaving no viable labor source for the gentry to generate wealth. Although unintentional on part of the upper class, these laws enculturated racism into colonial life, creating a class rift between whites and blacks. However, the incorporation of prejudice and racism developed only after the slave trade was established. Racism was not a prevalent social norm before American slavery. The Holistic Approach in Education Holistic education stands clear that learners, need a wide range of skills to transform their lives, and that of others around them. Certainly educating children is not a matter of flooding the market needs and fulfillment. According to Singh (2007), in the progressive changing world, learners need the capability to deal with the indeterminable future. In point of fact, a conventional wisdom pinpoints that a holistic education approach tackles all aspects of human challenges (p. 107) in life. Then, he went on to ask, whether an education, support learners to create capability, a useful key factor for the reconstruction of any country. The education system, scarcely provides learners for instance, with skills for commendable eating habit. That, in turn leads to the other question, of how often the education offers learners with the knowledge of avoiding the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, or drug that may ruin their health (Singh, 2007). A few aforementioned examples represent a segment of problems among others that children face daily, but not offered in their learning process.
