Provocation Of Timbuktu. Paul Auster’S Timbuktu Revolves
Provocation of Timbuktu Paul Auster s Timbuktu revolves around the life of Mr. Bones, the dog of the
belated William Gurevitch Christmas. Timbuktu is a novel that embodies rich language, vivid
imagery, and a sense of being open ended. Seen through the perspective of both Mr. Bones and a
narrator, Auster invokes multiple moments of provocation within his novel through his usage of
religious hints as well as the ideas of death and life. Truly speaking, it is not instruction, but
provocation, that I can receive from another soul. The preceding quote, by Ralph Waldo Emerson,
beautifully summarizes the journey and subsequent lessons learned from the journey that Mr. Bones
embarks upon. Over the duration of the novel, Mr. Bones inhabits a ... Show more content on

The metamorphosis of their relationship leads to the moment of provocation that begins with It wasn t
just that he knew Mr. Bones had a soul. The notion that Mr. Bones, a dog, has a soul is a religious
undertone. This undertone is enhanced as the description progresses with the penultimate question of
Was Mr. Bones an angel trapped in the flesh of a dog? The usage of the words soul , angel , and flesh
seem to allude to the religion of Christianity, bringing to the forefront of the reader s mind images of
Jesus. However, the words are generalized religious jargon, which suggests a sense of being open
ended. Furthermore, religion being left open ended is capitalized upon throughout the novel with
references to a variety of religious beliefs, practices, and origins. The book begins with the Jewish
religion in the forefront, as Willy s parents (thus consequently Willy growing up) are Jews. In the
scene where Willy has a conversation with Santa Claus, Willy makes a direct comparison of Santa to
Satan by rearranging the letters. He continued on with his religious infused train of thought for the
next few pages. Ultimately, the tone shifts from condemning the idea of Santa Claus to trying to
emulate what he stands for. Willy decides to turn himself into a saint. and in doing so, William
Gurevitch concluded his business on this earth, and from his flesh a

How Did Artemis Influence Culture
Artemis: An Influence on Culture
You hear the night wind blowing and see the bright shine of the full moon. Walking carefully with
your bow and arrows in hand, you creep up with the rest of the hunters. Drawing your bow, the wolves
get ready to attack, waiting for your signal. Artemis is the goddess of the moon, prophecy, hunters,
virginity, and healing. She leads her pack of immortal hunters, known as the Hunters of Artemis. The
hunters would travel with Artemis through the woods, protecting wild life and hunting. Through this
they helped keep balance like hunters today do. Greek gods and goddesses have greatly influenced our
culture, especially Artemis.
First, let s go through the history of Artemis. Artemis is the child of Zeus, the king ... Show more

Arthur M. Schlesinger says that Science and technology revolutionize our lives, but memory, tradition,
and myth frame our response. ( Mythology Quotes ) This quote is saying that we use science and
technology to make our lives better, but what we know effects how we accept us. I think this is
backing up the idea that mythology has a great influence on modern culture. We see how Artemis
especially influences culture through her history, allies, enemies, special abilities, and ties to culture.
So, let s go back to our story. You draw your bow, and, shoot. You make your target, a huge monster.
You keep loosing your arrows until it drops dead. You and your hunters go to celebrate the victory. We
see through the Greek myths that tension can be caused by individual differences. This is not only true
for the Greek myths, but it applies to modern life, to our society that we live in. In the myths we saw
that when the tension rose from the individual differences they would fight, and the people with
individual differences would become enemies. These stories can be fun to read, but we need to take
from them that we can t just fight people when the tension rises from differences. We need to settle
our differences, and not become enemies with people. This doesn t mean we have to be best friends
with these people, but they should become our enemies, we need to love everyone, even if they are
different from

The Equal Protection Clause Of The United States Constitution
Introduction The Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution
sanctioned all 50 States to protect all citizens, by requiring that all citizens are treated according to the
Bill of Rights, by protecting the inalienable rights of all its citizens (Fisher, 2013, pg. 3). Although, the
inalienable rights of men are projected differently, both from a Biblical perspective and a Constitution,
Declaration, there are or will be several morals violations among citizens that must be addressed.
Particularly, in this case on Religious Discrimination and Racial Harassment in the Workforce.
Specific Issues Maalick Encountered in the Workplace Specific issues Marshawn DeMur encountered
in his workplace are the company code of ethics violation, hostility in the workplace, racial
harassment and or religious discrimination, safety violations, and misconduct. Most of these are
Human Resource (HR) workplace ethic violations that are reported, perhaps as regular occurrences.
The most common occurrence in the workplace of the priors ise the code of ethics violations. Most
interns who end up becoming subordinate generally experience only the core value of a company prior
to the hiring process.
Hostility in the Workplace

Betty Friedan Women
For years, women have fought to gain the same rights and treatment as men. Those women that have
been fighting to gain equality have been held back and their opportunities have been stripped away
from them due to the simple fact of being women. Feminism is the belief in social, political, and
economic equality of the sexes (Scholz 2013). The feminist movement has been the key factors in
helping women gain equal rights for those who have been underprivileged of their rights and
equivalence that society refuse to give to them. A woman has every right to be treated equally to men
and feminism is accomplishing this slowly. Feminism is not only beneficial to women, it helps both

A feminist is an advocate for equality and recognizes the worth of a woman (Allen, Few, and Lloyd
2009). Betty Friedan was a well known feminist (women s rights activist) a social justice leader and
journalist. Betty Friedan s personal oppressions started during her childhood. Everything that played a
part in her growth and development was because of her mother, Marian Goldstein, who grew hatred
towards her husband s Jewish background because it made them socially unacceptable. Her mothers
anti Semitic Jew attitude was embedded into Friedan at a young age (Antler 1998). The families
Jewish background did not allow for them to attend the country club and it permitted her from joining
a sorority in high school. Because of this, she lost friends in school. Determined to make people
respect her as a woman, she became the editor of her schools paper. She was so focused and brilliant
that she realized that being at the top in her class was the reason she could not find love, so she gave
up school. This decision made room for her to get married and become the one thing she was
determined not to become, which was her mother. She found herself walking closely in her footsteps,
so she used this as one of her motivations to start writing The Feminine Mystique in1963 to show the

Antarctica Is The Third Largest Continent On The World Map
Antarctica is the fifth largest Continent on the world map which covers close to 14.2 million square
kilometres of land space that includes the ice sheets which unfolds onto the sea (Martin, 2013).
Antarctica once used to be part of Gondwana supercontinent until it fragmented itself 70 million years
ago and moved to the South Pole making it isolated from other land areas (Martin, 2013). Antarctica
was once ice free, had temperatures well above freezing point and was also filled with greeneries forty
million years ago during the early Oligocene period (Florindo Siegert, 2008). In the latter half of the
Oligocene towards the Miocene period, temperature in Antarctica started to descend. Factors such as
the height of Antarctica, which is 2800 metres above sea level, the Atmosphere in the Southern
Hemisphere being much thinner with minimal cloud cover that leads to high albedo and the ocean
currant movement around Antarctica has made Antarctica as cold as minus sixty Degrees Celsius for
humans to inhibit living here (Harwood et al., 2006). Scientists have been able to track back on the
climate conditions in Antarctica over the past thirteen million years with the aid of collecting rocks,
soil, animal and plant fossils buried deep down into the ground beyond the thick ice formation that
covers the Antarctic region currently. Scientists concluded that in order to get the geological evidence,
land had to be excavated vertically down towards the earth core (Naish, Powell, Levy,

Persuasive Essay On Online Classes
Most people think highly of online classes; get to work from home, get to work on a flexible schedule,
and anyone can do it. Though no one has heard the cons of taking one. I personally took three
semesters of online classes in high school and had a horrible experience. Because of loose scheduling,
poor communication, and the focus needed, online classes are not suitable for procrastinators. To give
a better understanding, I will summarize my experience with the class. Me, being a procrastinator,
thought to myself: I ll just work on the weekends and if I don t finish the class by the end of the school
year, I can finish within the first few weeks of summer. This was a god awful plan. Unsurprisingly,
close to nothing was accomplished on the weekends. Friends would ask me to hang out every
weekend, and I did every time. Why would I want to work on my class on the weekend when I could
be having fun? I would later regret this decision. On the days I stayed home and could have worked on
the class, I completed nothing. On these days, I would tell myself: I ll just complete what I didn t do
this weekend next weekend. This rarely happened. Thus, the cycle of getting nothing accomplished
started. I disregarded my class for most of the first semester of junior year. With only nine assignments
out of eighty finished after the first semester of the school year, I was immensely behind. I told myself
to get my act together during second semester and grind out these two semesters

Big Fish Movie Analysis
The book Big Fish and its movie adaptation shows the importance of how different factors help to
improve the story. This book tells of the legendary stories of Edward Bloom, narrated by his son,
William. The tales of Edward Bloom seem fictitious and far too amusing to be real. His son is
determined to find the truth in his father s stories in order to understand who his father truly was
behind his fantastic stories. The movie does not fail in its interpretation of the novel, in fact the movie
could very well be even better. The addition of new scenes and the focus on Edward s love life help
the movie tell the story in it s own way, showcasing the brilliance of the art of cinematography.

Motifs are described as a recurring theme that has symbolic significance. Motifs are a powerful
embellishment and provide movies with a traceable pattern or a significant meeting to look for later
on. Finally, motifs capture and emphasize the most important part of a movie or story. The motifs in
Big Fish consisted of the ring that Edward used to catch the fish, the Witch s eye that showed Edward
his death, the fish that Edward caught the day his son was born and the giant. An example of the
Giants significance in the movie Big Fish was when he stated, You think this town is too small for
you? This town is too small for my ambition. The giant in the small city of Ashton represents the big
fish in a little pond analogy and Edward Bloom s ambition. The witches eye that showed Edward
death was a fantastic motif because it portrayed his fearlessness. The eye is the symbol for himself,
and he realizes when he looks into the eye, death doesn t scare him. The witches eye also foreshadows
his future relationship with the witch. Lastly, the eye is a motif for the life he didn t have and it was

Advantages And Disadvantages Of TNT Mineralization
Aerobic TNT biotransformation by bacteria has been exensively researched and leads to the reduction
of 1 or 2 nitro groups. Many studies have proved that many isomers of amino nitro aromatic
compounds such as hydroxyl aminodinitrotoluenes (HADNT), amino dinitrotoluenes (ADNT),
diamino nitrotoluenes (DANT), dinitroaniline (DNA), and polynuclear condensation products like
azoxytoluenes are the aerobic partially reduced products of TNT known to be recalcitrant and
accumulate in the environment without further mineralization (Heiss and Knackmuss 2002, Robertson
and Jjemba 2005, Ziganshin et al. 2010, Moshe et al. 2012, Khan et al. 2013). They present a serious

2013). Previous studies conducted on Phanerochaete chrysosporium proved that the TNT
mineralization to CO2 is approximately at 35% (Fernando et al. 1990), demonstrating that the
evolution of CO2 was a result of oxidation and cleavage of aromatic ring by lignin peroxidase enzyme
(lignolytic activity). However, this activity was inhibited by the accumulation of 4 ADNT (Michels
and Gottschalk 1995) although in another study it was proved that this inhibition was due to the 4
HADNT (Michels and Gottschalk 1995). Both NAD(P)H dependent nitroreductase and lignin
peroxidase enzymes are non specific (Press 2001, Khan et al. 2013) and they are very important in
TNT degradation and removal from contaminated environment. It seems that there is a little
knowledge about the physiology of these enzymes and therefore a deep researches in that area can
significantly contribute to the existing knowledge and improve the current bioremendiation
technologies towards the complete removal of TNT from the

Compare the theatrical techniques and staging in act one of Oleanna and Street Car Named Desire
The two plays Street car named desire and Oleanna are very different plays in their use of theatrical
devices. Tennesse Williams play Street Car Named Desire gives us a long description of the New

despite the appearance of the street that seems falling apart at the fabric of the seems , the colour of
the sky tender blue , even the smell of bananas and coffee making the set described seem more exotic

Oleanna doesn t seem to include stage directions other than the phone ringing and John either
igonoring it or picking it up.
Lighting is also an important theatrical technique used in Street Car Named Desire. It is especially
utillised in Almadova s fim interpretation of the play, as he uses the strong primary coloured lighting
pallette throughout. Stanley and the boys are given strong primary colours, shown by what they wear
and the description of the room often red and blue. This is excluding Mitch who wears checked or soft
colour shirts to highlight his difference to the other men in the play. Whilst Blanche has to hide from
the natural light and cover it with paper laterns, in an attempt to hide from the cruel reality of life. In
Oleanna there is no mention of lighting so again it is up to the audience or director to imagine how the
single room would be lit.
Music and sounds are another theatical technique often used is Street Car Named Desire. The blues
piano is often heard in the background of act one and throughout the play. Linking to the culture of
New Orleans and the political freedom and less disrciminatory nature of the area. There is also the
sound of the train that symbolises Stanley and his power and masculinity . The polka tune that blanche
hears in her head relating to her past and the young boy linking to her happy past, that ends with the
sound of a shot. Much like convesation stops with the phone ringing in

Going Into Diversity I Wasn t For Sure How The Class...
Going into Diversity I wasn t for sure how the class would go. Considering I grew up in a more
northern state and not the deep south, I did not thinking going into this class, people would be as open
minded about the subject as I am. By no means is Missouri, as progressive as say Washington or
California, but I do believe we are a few steps ahead of the south. When I first met my roommates
they, would use terms in conversation that I would never ever use. I was explaining to my friend s
mom about how they would use certain terms. She was clearly astonished, she had not heard those
terms used that since the 1970s. That conversation made me realize how something as simple as an
individual s geographically location can mold and shape how you perceive the world. Not only did my
location change my perception, but what my mother and father taught me morally. My father was in
the Navy and lived overseas in multiple counties. He was the minority, he learned the ways of
different people. Some of his best friends were people he met over there. Both my mother and father
taught, us to accept everyone, don t judge people because of their religion, skin color, or background.
We are all humans, just trying to make it in this world, make it harder on them because they are
different? The third biggest influence is taking the time to learn and research diversity on my own.

Definition Essay On Trust
Trust has multiple definitions, but when I think about trust, always coming through, and being
trustworthy are the first ideas that come to mind. Most importantly, Trust can be defined as someone
you can tell anything to. You can have trust with your family, friends and relatives. People may see
trust differently based on past experiences or events. For example, someone who has trustworthy
friends who tends to keep secret information secret, might view trust positively. But, someone who
has friends that can t keep secrets, and tells everything they hear might view trust in a negative way.
Therefore, I believe that trust had many different view and definitions which are a lot different than
what I would ever have expect creating a never ending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different form of trust that can expand our expectations and deepen our views. The
trust you have with your parents may be very similar for the trust you have with your siblings. As a
young child you mainly only trust your parents, who provides you with food, shelter, clothing and
extra wants. As a child you are helpless, leaving your trust in your parents, to provide you with basic
needs to be healthy, is what I believe the child s first trust instinct is. Next, as you get older and begin
play with your siblings, you start to rely on them to keep you safe. You trust that they will keep you
out of the street, when you are playing in the front yard or not let you get lost in the grocery store
while your parents are shopping. You trust your siblings just as much as your parents to provide you
with safety, fun and needs. Then, you experience trust with your friends. This can be shown by relying
on each other, keeping each other safe and believing that they will be there for you when you need it
most. As you grow older, trust grows to new expectations forcing you to constantly learn. The
different types of trust we experiences teaches us different life lessons that stays with us forever.
Throughout our lives, everyone wants to be trusted and experience trust with someone

Spain And South Korea s Food Culture
Introduction I have chosen the country Spain. I think Spain is very interesting country because it has a
long history and fervent people. Most people think about Spain as football WorldCup, a fighting bull
and Flamenco. However, Spain is very famous with its cuisine. Also known as Spain s food is very
intense and flavorful. In fact, in a previous block, I wrote an essay about compared with Spain and
South Korea s food culture. Food of Spain and Korea deal in common. Both countries have love of the
spicy foods, and rice is a main ingredient. So Korean food is often popular in Spain and also, South
Koreans are also very fond of Spanish food. Actually, I recently worked in a Spanish cuisine
restaurant in Takapuna. I feel like that Spanish food has so fast cooking method and it uses many
ingredients. My friend, who is a Spanish cuisine chef, told me that Spain has a lot of food such as
tapas.
Food is the history of the country. If we learn the foods of other countries, we could learn their history
and traditions. Also food is considered as a very important thing in life. Actually I am very excited
about this opportunity because I will try to get a job in a Spanish cuisine restaurant in the future. So it
is time to research better how to make Spanish food and how to develop the Spanish food recipe.
Spanish food has various types of food, and I think the people live in New Zealand will love Spanish
food because there are so many people from many countries around the world.

Indecision In The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock
In his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, author T.S. Eliot demonstrates that indecision often
leads to feelings of resentment. For example, when one dwells on the possible risks of an action rather
than deciding to take action, he often later resents himself for not at least attempting to do what he
wanted. In Eliot s poem, Prufrock s fear of being misunderstood keeps him from asking a simple
question: If one, settling a pillow by her head Should say: That is not what I meant at all; That is not it,
at all. ... would it have been worth it, after all, (96 99) poses Prufrock. Yes, it would be worth it to ask
the question. Because being misunderstood does not have any physical or lasting consequences,
Prufrock has little to lose by asking the question he so badly wants to ask. ... Show more content on

Prufrock exemplifies this aspect when he begins to blame others for his inability to inquire and thus
starts to resent them. He imagines that the nearby ladies are poking fun at him, keeping him from
asking the question: They will say: But how his hair is growing thin / ...They will say: But how his
arms and legs are thin! (41 44). Prufrock has no proof that the ladies are truly judging him in this way.
However, he resents them because his imagining that they are thinking such things hinders his
confidence and keeps him from making a decision to ask the question. The ladies are surely not giving
Prufrock any compliments, so why not make them take the blame for his impotence? However, while
Prufrock allows the women to have such an effect on his situation, the women are not even thinking
about him. They are only worried with their own affairs as they come and go talking of Michelangelo
(35), not once mentioning J. Alfred Prufrock. Thus, Prufrock s resentment for the women is brought

The Military Of American Army Downsizing
The quick evolving military environment, needs the US Army redouble its efforts to reduce the
uncertainty associated with the downsizing. There are some predominant principles that can guide the
Army s efforts in minimizing the impact of uncertainty during the force reduction. Even with major
political and legislative challenges, keeping balance among the different proportions of readiness is a
goal of US defense policy. During the budgetary preparation, downsizing of the armed forces often
becomes one of the first victims of fiscal reduction. This was true of the years between World War I
and World War II, when the Great Depression made military preparedness a very low national priority.
The Army s downsizing effect put its readiness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By that time, simple questions remained without a steady answer regarding the morale, training,
retention programs, and most important, readiness. Wong (2013) quotes the Army reduction as
follows,
One would be hard pressed to find anyone who would claim that the post Vietnam downsizing,
typified by insensitive dismissals of combat veterans via pink slips accompanied by almost
nonexistent transition assistance, is an example of a well executed reduction in force.
The Army s success in battles becomes a product of its readiness, training, and equipment and of
course its size. In the American history, the success of the first battles was a product of combination of
all the mentioned factors and especially reduction of the military numbers. Due to the public s will and
pressure for downsizing the force after conflicts and increasing the number right before the following
conflicts, the will to repair the damage already done was almost obsolete. In his article, Dunn (2013)
mentions, public reaction to the US first battles served as a catalyst for repairing the state of the Army
. The downsizing routine followed after Cold War period, in order to match the proper rate of forces
on the evolving and complicated environment.

wisdom and learning to be a leader. Difference notwithstanding, there still seems to be some
commonality in all the perspectives behind the definition, which is related to choosing a best of the
best person as their leader. The simple bottom line is that, nobody wants to have a person as his leader
who doesn t have knowledge of the needs and aspirations of his people or who is not blessed with a
certain temperament foe bearing hardships for his people, nor a vision for where they should be or
how they should grow and influence the world around them.
As the founder of tech startup, it is only natural for me to pick a leader who is a true technological
visionary. It was not enough to simply pick someone who created innovative products, or created and
ran a billion dollar company. For me it would have to be someone with the vision to shape the future
and world around him, a person who could see how his works would directly impact the trajectory of
the world and its impact on the human race at large. A true visionary. Therefore, for the purpose of this
assignment I have chosen to perform a study to Elon Musk, the business magnate, engineer and
inventor to name but a few of his accolades. In

Essay about The Spread of Buddhism and Christianity
The Spread of Buddhism and Christianity
Buddhism and Christianity were each founded by one person, and then eventually grew into two of the
largest religions in the world. Each religion had different reasons for the success in the spreading of
each respected belief. Although both faced many hardships, the two religions overcame and prevailed
through their problems and continued to find ways to attract new believers every day.
Buddhism was founded by one man, Siddhartha Guatama. He was born into royalty around 563
B.C.E. in a Kingdom near the border of India and Nepal. He was raised in wealth and luxury, and at
the age of 16, he married a wealth woman and they had a child together. Around the age of 29, he

When, through his Buddhahood, he had cognized this fact, the earth swayed like a woman drunken
with wine, the sky shone bright with the Siddhas who appeared in crowds in all the directions, and the
mighty drums of thunder resounded through the air. Pleasant breezes blew softly, rain fell from a
cloudless sky, flowers and fruits dropped from the trees out of season in an effort, as it were, to show
reverance for him,? (The Global Experience, Ashvaghosha, pg. 79).
Having achieved enlightenment, the Buddha began spreading his knowledge to help others achieve ?
Nirvana?, which means to be released from the reincarnation cycle. He preached that there were 4
Noble Truths: (1) all life is suffering; (2) the source of suffering is desire; (3) to end desiring is to end
suffering; (4) there is an eight fold path to end suffering; to have the right understanding, thought,
speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration. This idea of being released from
suffering attracted many people, and Buddhism soon spread rapidly through Northern India, and then
through Southern India.
However, the popularity of this form of Buddhism (Theravada, as it came to be known, meaning ?way
of the elders?) began to dwindle as only a few people were being able to enlightenment as it was so
difficult. It was mainly monks who were practicing the eight fold path, and they would meditate for
months and years and

Dr. Heidegger s Experiment
Hawthorne creates a delightfully dreary Gothic short story ¨Dr. Heidegger s Experiment¨ through the
use of a dilapidated family estate, heightened emotions from the characters Mr. Medbourne, Colonel
Killigrew, and Mr. Gascoigne, as well as unexplained objects such as the painting of Dr Heidegger s
lost love coming to life.
Hawthorne s short story is set in Heidegger s study, a room that was once magnificent, but when this
story occurs it has cobwebs and layer of dust covering the room. Gothic short stories regularly are set
in dilapidated family mansions, or in this case a study It was a dim, old fashioned chamber, festooned

painting coming to life or the bust of Hippocrates saying forbear, as well as seeing a double reality. Dr.
Heidegger s Experiment is in the Gothic classification because one startling event, characteristic of the
genre, ... the bronze bust of Hippocrates frowns, uttering the command to forbear, this supernatural
incident exhibits the characteristics of a gothic story (Knowlton 2). As Knowlton says, the very fact
that the bust speaks is a classic charistic of Gothic literature therefore justifying Dr. Heidegger s
Experiment placement in the Gothic genre. Another supernatural occurrence in Dr. Heidegger s
Experiment occurs when the picture of the young lady had stepped one foot upon the floor, this does
not happen everyday, and shows the gothic elements of this short story (Hawthorne 1). The double
reality in Dr. Heidegger s Experiment is apparent when ¨the tall mirror is said to have reflected the

Critical Analysis Model
A Critical Analysis of The Kaya Identity:
OLS Estimator Modeling, Variable Specification, Renewable Energy, and Multicollinearity

April 29,2017
Abstract
The following analysis attempts to understand how to best formulate a stochastic model using
empirical data and the proposed Kaya Identity, as well as further explore components of the IPAT
equation that measures human impact on the surrounding ecological system. Using Quarterly Data
from the United States from 1980 2016, an econometric critique and environmental exploration of
datasets, regression functions, and pitfalls of the latter will help further examine previous works on the
use of the Kaya Identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is in turn beneficial to understand the underlying forces at work affecting these numbers.
This can be assisted using scientific models. The fields of study of energy economy and environmental
economy thus play pivotal roles in modeling these equations. Initially proposed by Yoichi Kaya in
1980, the Kaya Identity is an econometric model which proposes to calculate Co2 emissions using 4
variables strongly associated with industry analysis: GDP Per Capita, Energy Intensity, Carbon
Intensity, and Population. More broadly, the intergovernmental panel and sustainable scale project
uses the Kaya Identity alongside a general model to calculate human footprint called IPAT to help
determine correlations amongst governmental policies and subsequent ecological implications. IPAT
structures a more multiplicative equation to encompass all the possible variables to calculate the
degradation of the environment and aggregate human impact on surrounding ecosystems (Waggoner,
2002). Variables include Environmental impacts (resource depletion and waste), effect of population,
affluence and effect of consumption levels, and technology used to transform goods into

Evaluating The American Muscle Car
The American muscle car is one of the most iconic Americana things ever created. The term
Americana means, materials concerning or characteristic of America, its civilization, or its culture;
broadly: things typical of America (Merriam Webster). A few things that are Americana are baseball,
Fourth of July, the Statue of Liberty, and my personal favorite the American Muscle car. Many cars
come to mind when people hear that name, American Muscle car; the names they think about included
the Mustang, the Camaro, and the Challenger. I will be focusing on the Challenger which was one of
the first pony cars, an experiment to give the average American something cool to ride. The criteria I
will be using to evaluate the car will be judging its performance, its safety, and fuel efficiency. The
challenger is a piece of pure muscle, an embodiment of the free American spirit. This car is an
innovation; a marvel of engineering. Its smooth ride rivals none; its speed challenges the competition,
and its power rivals none. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ethics in Physical Therapy
Ethics in Physical Therapy
One of the most rapidly growing occupations in the United States today is Physical Therapy. The
United States Department of Labor has projected 23,000 unfilled physical therapist positions in the
year 2000 and a lack of qualified physical therapists to fill them (www.apta.org). While Physical
Therapy grows rapidly, questions of ethics in this field have also grown in large quantities. Physical
therapy is the treatment of disease through physical means, including light, heat, sound waves,
electricity, magnetic fields, and exercise (www.byu.edu). This means that therapists use many different
forms to treat people, and treating people can be a large challenge because of all the different

They used a technique called the Delphi technique, where a panel of experts was selected and the
experts responded to questionnaires stating their concerns with ethics. The experts narrowed their
concerns down to three categories: patient rights and welfare, professional issues, and business
factors. The experts chose six patient rights and welfare issues, five professional issues, and five
relating to business factors to be the most important.
The first issues addressed, the patients rights and welfare issues, were the primary concern of the
panel of experts. The issues at hand focused on interactions, confidentiality, sexuality, and consensual
issues between doctors and patients. Any interaction between a doctor and patient should be
understood and clear. Sexual activities between doctor and patient should be prohibited, and all
interactions should be ensured as confidential.
The second issues faced were professional ones. These issues dealt primarily with policies and
relations between health professionals. Some issues listed in this category were maintaining clinical
competence, supervising personnel, taking care of the environment, and reporting any misconduct of
others. Therapists should be competent in their work, their personnel should be supervised at all times,
their environment should be sanitary and clean, and they should feel obligated to report and wrong
doing of their peers.
The third and final category discussed was business and

Essay on Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Compnay HISTORY
Henry Ford was an engineer from Detroit, Michigan who had an idea. By 1902, Ford had attempted
several times to produce a gas powered vehicle, but with little capital, he realized that his attempts
were futile. Ford approached a man by the name of Alexander T. Malcomson about the possibility of
manufacturing an automobile. Malcomson, a friend of the family and wealthy coal merchant was
reluctant at first but finally agreed with Ford, and decided to assit Ford financially with his endeavor.
With Malcomsons investment and Ford s engineering skills a partnership was formed and in mid June
of 1903, papers of incorporation for the Ford Motor Company were filed in Dearborn, Michigan.

The Agrarian Revolt Of The 1920
The Agrarian revolt of the 1920 to 1926 in Naranja occurred well before all other regions of Mexico
could gather themselves and demand for such. It was a risky endeavor and it only succeeded because
of the historic precedent that favor the Tarascans of Naranja. From their pre conquistador contact
history to their post Diaz situation, the people of Naranja were pushed towards the front of the queue
of people with grievances toward the Mexican government. Their experiences also built up their moral
and courage to revolt despite the repercussions and the probability of backlash. Then finally, their
leaders, especially Primo Tapia, were uniquely prepared to take up the mantle and lead them to
victory. The people of Naranja, Michoacan were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people of Naranja were also nearly exclusively Indian (indigenous). There was even a common
but unspoken animosity towards mestizos and people of Spanish descent and origin. Fredrich had
mentioned that then and even now, there is the very occurrence of mixing of the Spanish and
indigenous blood in these parts. Like mentioned before most were illiterate in Spanish and they were
very set in their ways traditionally. The Spaniards had also ruled over the people indirectly via an
already established royal hierarchy in the region in the form of a cacique. Hence the people had had
little direct exposure to the Spanish (and later on Mexican) governing forces. The most influential
outsider was without a doubt the local priest. All these accumulated and made the Tarascan people an
isolated people that did not conform to societal expectations of submissiveness to authority or docility
in the presence of oppressive government regimes. Then the economic and social impacts of the
Spanish (or Mexican) government was also a great influencer in their decision to revolt at the time that
they did. During the Diaz era, some brothers were granted land in the area, near the lake. This land
was not given to these brothers with the consent of the people of Naranja, only their corrupt and
incompetent leaders and Porfirio Diaz signed off on the deal. These businessmen developed a very
successful grain hacienda on the land and they employed the

achievements, but which was the greatest? Harriet Tubman s greatest achievement was working as a
nurse for 54th Massachusetts during the Civil War, and was barley recognized and wasn t paid for all
her work as a nurse. Compared to the others, nursing is the greatest achievement. Harriet Tubman
saved more people through nursing than slavery. It is unknown how many people she saved nursing
but she only saved around 40 people from slavery. Obviously, Harriet Tubman wasn t as busy and didn

about the lives, hardships, and obstacles of black men.
Black women, however, have long been relegated to subordinate societal roles in relation to white

these services. Females made up 83.1% of the total. Black females comprised 32.3% of the total of all

Toni Cade Bambara was very aware of the black environment and of black female experiences. In the
foreword to the book Black Women Writers at Work, Tillie Olsen states that black women writers,

The Progressive Era And Political Reform
The Progressive era was a period around 1890 1920, in which the rise of social activism became
apparent as well as political reform. Americans during this time began to move away from rural and
began to colonize cities. Progressive activists at the time sought to eliminate government corruption,
increase regulation in business practices, and address and resolve health issues in the work force.
Journalists known as muckrakers were catalysts of change by informing the public about prominent
issues at the time including, child labor, corruption in government, and unlawful practices acted out by
business men. One of the key contributors to the rise of the progressive era was immigration. From
1800 to 1900, the US received a large influx of in the number of immigrants, fueled by economic
freedom and emancipation from there socially restrictive homeland. It is estimated that a total of more
than 15 million immigrants arrived in the US during this time. A large number of these immigrants
settled in densely populated cities. In 1910, three fourths of New York s City s population was either
immigrants or first generation Americans . The second reason was the rise of the middle class. A
majority of progressivists came from the middle class. One of the motives that drove progressivists
was to give the public direct control over the government; this was accomplished by direct primaries
that would elect candidates for public office. The third primary factor which led to the rise of

Of the three sages the one that I liked the best would be Siddhartha Gautama, also known as the

nirvana is a state of being in which I believe is the key to happiness, a mindset that must be found on

than ten fifteen minutes, you will surely have a heart failure, because the water is that cold, and we are
at an extreme altitude. And the most Ironic thing about this cold river is after we crossed it we have to
bathe before we enter the temple, even if we had bathed in the morning. When we went to the place
we were supposed to bathe, we came to find out that it was a hot spring and this hot spring was ten
feet away from the extremely cold Alaknanda waters, ironic enough, I thought so. After we finished
bathing there was a ritual which we had to perform. We had to get into brand new clothes and we had
to give the clothes were wearing to the more unfortunate people. So after we did that, we went into the
main temple, it was enriched with beautiful colors and sculptures all made since the time the temple
was created. We had gone in and while we were coming outside, we

Fdt4 Task 2 Essay
D: Introduction As a teacher living in a highly religious state, it is important for me to know more
about the main religions in Utah. The two most prevalent, being the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints (LDS) and the Catholic faith. I would like to know more about their beliefs, holidays, and
family traditions. Some of the main beliefs in the LDS culture are Jesus is the Savior of all man, The
Word of Wisdom, and the church was restored by their Prophet Joseph Smith. Some of the main
beliefs for the Catholic faith are the Bible, the different Saints, and baptism. There are many holidays
that are celebrated by both religions. Both Catholics and LDS members celebrate Christmas and
Easter. The LDS faith in Utah has a special state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then told him that he would be the prophet of the new church (Smith, n.d.). Joseph Smith s own
account of that day says,
My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might
know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak,
than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at
this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong) and which I should join. (Smith,n.d.)
He then became the first prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The LDS Church
believes that he translated the gold plates to what is now called the Book of Mormon, the main
scripture for the LDS church (Dirkmaat,2013). It is also believed that he received many revelations
from God. He was persecuted throughout his life and ended up dying a martyr at the age of 38
(McKeever,n.d.).
Holidays in the LDS faith are quite the same as the rest world. The most popular holiday
that they celebrate is Christmas. They believe that Christmas is a time to celebrate and remember
Jesus Christ s birth. Thomas Monson, a prophet of the LDS church states, When we have the spirit of
Christmas, we remember Him whose birth we commemorate at this season of the year. We
contemplate that first Christmas day, foretold by the prophets of old. (Monson, 2008). They believe
that Christmas

An Album About Last Night-Personal Narrative
Confidence. If I got anything out of this album, it would be absolute confidence in myself. There s
nothing worse then someone who is just stuck in a rut of what they call their own life, and doesn t
know how to get the hell up out of their funk, grow a pair, and just move on! Listen to Sleeper Agents
album About Last Night, and trust me, you ll feel more sure of yourself then you ever have before.
Alex Kandel s edgy, yet inspirational, voice instantly lured me in, reminding me of a younger, more
punk rockish Shania Twain. The album starts off with a super upbeat song called Be Brave , which
brought me a subliminal wave of courage that I did not know I could feel, as if I could just get up and
conquer the world. The lyrics But I could be brave in your bed tonight , did a good job setting the
controlling promiscuous tone for what was to come. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was imagining myself driving to my ex boyfriends house with a head full of courage and my gut
filled with rage, banging on the door, and demanding him to literally take it off . Everyone has that
spunk hidden under the layers of shy emotions, but listening to this song certainly brings it out. The
lyrics I came all the way just to see you, indicates the journey we re about to go on through About Last
Night. The track Haunting Me surprised me with its vulnerability. Here I was feeling all confident,
then Alex Kandel reminds us of how its not so easy to actually move on from something you were
once so attached to. This song gives the album a realistic vibe that anyone can easily relate

Oroonoko Sparknotes
For ages, man exemplified their desire to perform inequalities to those weaker than they. From the
oppressor in the congregation, to the monarch and his crown court, it appears that man have a will to
take over and dictate others. Oroonoko, by Aphra Behn, shows us that slavery is immoral, shameful,
disheartening, and worse than death. Liberty is an assured human right. Oroonoko is a controlling
story about the sufferings of a chivalrous, gracious prince named Oroonoko. Through the novel,
Oroonoko is presented to be a heroic prince and a friend to numerous people especially to his fellow
slaves who looked up to him and respected him like he was a special person to them. He is given
command over an army and validates his soldierly and strategical skills by winning his battles and
conquering his enemies. In the beginning of the novel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And after a while not at first he gets some form of respect from other slaves but not right away like
Oroonoko. Slaves viewed Kunte as a brave and courageous man because he ran away twice and got
punished for it and other slaves saw the punishment and how he took the beating and sufferings as a
man he earned his respect from that. Kunte becomes a smart, educated man towards the end and has
some similarities with Oroonoko. Behn goes and talks about how no one has ever produced a braver
man than Oroonoko. He was both courageous and had a brilliant mind as well. Oroonoko s
grandfather who is a king and is such an unpleasant person, he s a horrible no good person he lures
women into his dungeon and sleeps with them. He gives them a choice by either offering them to
sleep with him or die if they don t follow his rules or regulations. He treats them like slaves where that
is unfair, unethical he shows women no respect at all. He has no flaws or errors to him he s like
perfect although he does such horrible things. Whatever he does he doesn t see it at a perspective of
being bad he can do anything he wants and even if it s bad it s

Similarities Between The Tang And Song Dynasty
The historical importance of the term movable type is that it is a printer that can arrange blocks of
individual characters in a frame to make up a page for printing. This was one of the advancements in
the Tang and Song Dynasty. Advancement is gunpowder. Gunpowder leads to the creation of
weapons. The Tang s agriculture also helps them succeed because the new fast ripening rice from
Vietnam can feed the whole population. Also, they promoted trade by guarding the Silk Roads,
relining on ocean trade. Buddhism spread and the Chinese were exposed to Christianity. Also, the
Tang period produced great poets like Li Bo and Tu. During the Song Dynasty, artists were influenced
by Daoism and emphasized the beauty of natural landscapes, used black ink.

They kept the Chinese from high government offices. In addition to that, they restored the Grand

were rebellions, famine, flood, disease, economic problems, and government corruption.
The historical significance of the phrase Marco Polo is that he was a European that traveled to China
so he can visit various Chinese cities on government missions for Kublai Khan. During a war, he was
captured and imprisoned.
The historical significance of the phrase Shinto is that it is a type of religion that was based on respect
for the forces of nature and on the worship of ancestors. Also, worshippers believed in kami which are
divine spirits that lived in nature. Shinto religion was also influenced by the Koreans because they
introduced Buddhism to them. Some Buddhist rituals became Shinto rituals. This made the Japanese

So, the pros and cons of technology in our generation.
It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that.
The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication.
Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to
contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow us to
stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. In my eyes
Youtube is also a source of communication, because it allows us to look things up, like how to videos,
which contain knowledge that would be much harder to obtain ... Show more content on

Virtual bullying is becoming a very big concern for people our age, being the first area to have too
much technology to back up our good times, and bad time. We tend to struggle through emotional
stress a lot more than past generations, so a simple message is able to tare some of us down really
easily.
Video games. Now this one is completely my opinion, and i m not interested in starting an arguement,
but the pros and cons for this one, in my eyes are simply put.
Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a
great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them
back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into a
game, so that no one actually gets harmed.
Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real life
things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank. Games are
great and all but even I m guilty of this one. I d much rather play my Ps4 than get that stack of
homework done, I can always do it later, but then later I ll say the

Essay on Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet
Parental Expectations
Parental expectations are basically the way parents expect their kids to live their lives. The definition
of expectation is the act of expecting; to have a prospect of future good or profit . Parents often expect
their kids to be perfect. By this I mean make all the right decisions, do everything the way the parents
want it to be done, and live up to their parents standards. I don t always agree with a lot of today s
parental expectations because some parents try to benefit themselves instead of the kids. In this essay,
I will describe parental expectations from today and from the play Romeo and Juliet. I will link some
of the examples of expectations to movies, or real life scenarios. ... Show more content on

Kids have dreams of their own, too.
Another situation in society today is that kids are expected to follow in their parents footsteps. Some
parents that own companies expect their children to take over one day without ever asking the child s
thoughts on the idea. An example of this situation is from the movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
. There is an elf named Hermey. Like all other elves in the North Pole, Hermey is expected to make
toys for all the children around the world. There is one problem; Hermey doesn t want to make toys.
Hermey wants to be a dentist. After hearing this, the head elf gets very angry at Hermey. Hermey is
known as a misfit due to his choice and he later runs away to not have to make toys anymore and to
learn more about being a dentist. It is important to always ask your children what they think of certain
things and what they want in life instead of just expecting or assuming what they want without their
consent. Expectations put a lot of pressure on kids and it would just be easier on them to let them
make their own decisions (but still guide them in the right path).
Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet
In the play Romeo and Juliet, the parents expect hatred between both families. Growing up, the
Montagues were always taught to hate the Capulets and the Capulets were always taught to hate the
Montagues. The kids were always told that the other family is a bad family and that they would never

Literary Devices In A Doll s House
Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
In A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen was created during 1800s time period. This play helps shine a light
on the gender roles of the 1800s while also creating a twist that was uncommon for this period. During
this time period, women were left home to oversee the domestic duties, while men went to commuted
to work (Hughes). Men were seen as physically superior but morally inferior to women; which is also
portrayed within this book (Hughes). This play marks the beginning of Henrik Ibsen s realist period,
which he explored the ordinary lives of small town people (Kirszner and Mandell 881). This modern
tragedy helped make Ibsen famous internationally because of the real life story it captured (Kirszner
and Mandell 882). Henrik Ibsen uses an array of literary devices to help keep the reader captivated
from beginning to end. Three of the most prominent literary devices used by Henrik Ibsen are
symbolism, foreshadowing, and an array of themes. These literary devices help transform a basic play
into a complex story of lies and deception.
Symbolism is used a lot within in the play and is a figure of speech that is used when an author wants
to create a certain mood or emotion in a work of literature (What is Symbolism in Literature?).
Majority of A Doll House is filled with symbolism that creates an intense emotion for the reader. The
setting of the play is around Christmas Day and is approaching New Year s Day. This holds a lot of
symbolism

Capitalismism And Environment
In order to answer questions about: if green consumption being able to solve environmental problems,
if purchasing eco friendly products as well as green technology is the answer to global environmental
degradation, and if capitalism is able to save the environment or not, background information certainly
needs to be presented before my personal opinion is contributed.
To introduce capitalism, society, and the environment, I would like to begin with the statement that
humans affect nature, or the natural environment. Pollution and depletion are two ways this happens.
On one side with pollution, the environment becomes contaminated by toxic items. On the other side
with depletion, the environment s natural resources are being exhausted. Even though both are
negative and both are bad for the environment, not one of them is necessarily better to have. To
discuss capitalism, seeking profit and private property is what capitalism strives for. This is essentially
their main desire. In slightly simpler words, it seeks to collect capital, or money. Capitalism affects the
environment in a negative way, but it also causes stratification. The way it does this is by exploiting
workers.
Thinkers who are Ecological Marxists are contemporary thinkers who added onto Karl Marx s theory
original proposed thought processes about capitalism. Ecological Marxist Theory brings to light the
issues between capitalism s means of production and the environment. It explains how capitalism is

Standing Up To The Bully-Personal Narrative
The bitter cold of winter bit Rebecca s nose. She didn t mind though, because it was snowing. This is a
very unusual event, if you have lived in North Carolina for your entire life, like Rebecca. It almost
never snows in North Carolina. The snow stuck to Rebecca s short, chin length hair. The white snow,
stood out brilliantly, because her hair is such a dark brown. Her green eyes squinted, trying to see
Junior Inc. As soon as she could see the tall business building, she rushed to it. Only then did she
realize that all of the buttons on her shirt were in the wrong places. She grumbled, knowing that she is
already too late for work to be able to change them now. She ran to the building, her black cardigan
doing nothing against the cold wind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How could you possibly think that? What did I do that made you think I am completely incapable of

still don t trust me!
He stared at her blankly, seeming to not understand. With tears stinging her eyes, she pushed past him,
and rushed down the hall, into the meeting room. She stared out of the window, and she realized that
the snowfall ended. Great, she thought, a once in a lifetime opportunity wasted.
After being in the meeting room for maybe thirty minutes, Rebecca excused herself, she simply
couldn t focus. She knew that she probably was going to be fired. She pulled out her flip phone, and
pulled it open. She just had to call or talk to someone.
She went to her favorites, and stared at the three names in front of her. Alan, Mom, and Dad. She didn
t want to call her Dad, because she knew that he probably was with her stepmother. She thought about
calling her Mom, but didn t want to. The last time she spoke to her Mom, they had been in a huge
fight. She knew she wanted to tell Alan to his face, but he probably was still working. Then, once

  • 2. Provocation Of Timbuktu. Paul Auster’S Timbuktu Revolves Provocation of Timbuktu Paul Auster s Timbuktu revolves around the life of Mr. Bones, the dog of the belated William Gurevitch Christmas. Timbuktu is a novel that embodies rich language, vivid imagery, and a sense of being open ended. Seen through the perspective of both Mr. Bones and a narrator, Auster invokes multiple moments of provocation within his novel through his usage of religious hints as well as the ideas of death and life. Truly speaking, it is not instruction, but provocation, that I can receive from another soul. The preceding quote, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, beautifully summarizes the journey and subsequent lessons learned from the journey that Mr. Bones embarks upon. Over the duration of the novel, Mr. Bones inhabits a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The metamorphosis of their relationship leads to the moment of provocation that begins with It wasn t just that he knew Mr. Bones had a soul. The notion that Mr. Bones, a dog, has a soul is a religious undertone. This undertone is enhanced as the description progresses with the penultimate question of Was Mr. Bones an angel trapped in the flesh of a dog? The usage of the words soul , angel , and flesh seem to allude to the religion of Christianity, bringing to the forefront of the reader s mind images of Jesus. However, the words are generalized religious jargon, which suggests a sense of being open ended. Furthermore, religion being left open ended is capitalized upon throughout the novel with references to a variety of religious beliefs, practices, and origins. The book begins with the Jewish religion in the forefront, as Willy s parents (thus consequently Willy growing up) are Jews. In the scene where Willy has a conversation with Santa Claus, Willy makes a direct comparison of Santa to Satan by rearranging the letters. He continued on with his religious infused train of thought for the next few pages. Ultimately, the tone shifts from condemning the idea of Santa Claus to trying to emulate what he stands for. Willy decides to turn himself into a saint. and in doing so, William Gurevitch concluded his business on this earth, and from his flesh a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Did Artemis Influence Culture Artemis: An Influence on Culture You hear the night wind blowing and see the bright shine of the full moon. Walking carefully with your bow and arrows in hand, you creep up with the rest of the hunters. Drawing your bow, the wolves get ready to attack, waiting for your signal. Artemis is the goddess of the moon, prophecy, hunters, virginity, and healing. She leads her pack of immortal hunters, known as the Hunters of Artemis. The hunters would travel with Artemis through the woods, protecting wild life and hunting. Through this they helped keep balance like hunters today do. Greek gods and goddesses have greatly influenced our culture, especially Artemis. First, let s go through the history of Artemis. Artemis is the child of Zeus, the king ... ( Mythology Quotes ) This quote is saying that we use science and technology to make our lives better, but what we know effects how we accept us. I think this is backing up the idea that mythology has a great influence on modern culture. We see how Artemis especially influences culture through her history, allies, enemies, special abilities, and ties to culture. So, let s go back to our story. You draw your bow, and, shoot. You make your target, a huge monster. You keep loosing your arrows until it drops dead. You and your hunters go to celebrate the victory. We see through the Greek myths that tension can be caused by individual differences. This is not only true for the Greek myths, but it applies to modern life, to our society that we live in. In the myths we saw that when the tension rose from the individual differences they would fight, and the people with individual differences would become enemies. These stories can be fun to read, but we need to take from them that we can t just fight people when the tension rises from differences. We need to settle our differences, and not become enemies with people. This doesn t mean we have to be best friends with these people, but they should become our enemies, we need to love everyone, even if they are different from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those women that have been fighting to gain equality have been held back and their opportunities have been stripped away from them due to the simple fact of being women. The feminist movement has been the key factors in helping women gain equal rights for those who have been underprivileged of their rights and equivalence that society refuse to give to them. A feminist is an advocate for equality and recognizes the worth of a woman (Allen, Few, and Lloyd 2009). Betty Friedan was a well known feminist (women s rights activist) a social justice leader and journalist. Betty Friedan s personal oppressions started during her childhood. Everything that played a part in her growth and development was because of her mother, Marian Goldstein, who grew hatred towards her husband s Jewish background because it made them socially unacceptable. Her mothers anti Semitic Jew attitude was embedded into Friedan at a young age (Antler 1998). The families Jewish background did not allow for them to attend the country club and it permitted her from joining a sorority in high school. Because of this, she lost friends in school. Determined to make people respect her as a woman, she became the editor of her schools paper. She was so focused and brilliant that she realized that being at the top in her class was the reason she could not find love, so she gave up school. This decision made room for her to get married and become the one thing she was determined not to become, which was her mother. • 6. Antarctica Is The Third Largest Continent On The World Map Antarctica is the fifth largest Continent on the world map which covers close to 14.2 million square kilometres of land space that includes the ice sheets which unfolds onto the sea (Martin, 2013). Antarctica once used to be part of Gondwana supercontinent until it fragmented itself 70 million years ago and moved to the South Pole making it isolated from other land areas (Martin, 2013). Antarctica was once ice free, had temperatures well above freezing point and was also filled with greeneries forty million years ago during the early Oligocene period (Florindo Siegert, 2008). In the latter half of the Oligocene towards the Miocene period, temperature in Antarctica started to descend. Factors such as the height of Antarctica, which is 2800 metres above sea level, the Atmosphere in the Southern Hemisphere being much thinner with minimal cloud cover that leads to high albedo and the ocean currant movement around Antarctica has made Antarctica as cold as minus sixty Degrees Celsius for humans to inhibit living here (Harwood et al., 2006). Scientists have been able to track back on the climate conditions in Antarctica over the past thirteen million years with the aid of collecting rocks, soil, animal and plant fossils buried deep down into the ground beyond the thick ice formation that covers the Antarctic region currently. Scientists concluded that in order to get the geological evidence, land had to be excavated vertically down towards the earth core (Naish, Powell, Levy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Online Classes Most people think highly of online classes; get to work from home, get to work on a flexible schedule, and anyone can do it. Though no one has heard the cons of taking one. I personally took three semesters of online classes in high school and had a horrible experience. Because of loose scheduling, poor communication, and the focus needed, online classes are not suitable for procrastinators. To give a better understanding, I will summarize my experience with the class. Me, being a procrastinator, thought to myself: I ll just work on the weekends and if I don t finish the class by the end of the school year, I can finish within the first few weeks of summer. This was a god awful plan. Unsurprisingly, close to nothing was accomplished on the weekends. Friends would ask me to hang out every weekend, and I did every time. Why would I want to work on my class on the weekend when I could be having fun? I would later regret this decision. On the days I stayed home and could have worked on the class, I completed nothing. On these days, I would tell myself: I ll just complete what I didn t do this weekend next weekend. This rarely happened. Thus, the cycle of getting nothing accomplished started. I disregarded my class for most of the first semester of junior year. With only nine assignments out of eighty finished after the first semester of the school year, I was immensely behind. I told myself to get my act together during second semester and grind out these two semesters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His son is determined to find the truth in his father s stories in order to understand who his father truly was behind his fantastic stories. The movie does not fail in its interpretation of the novel, in fact the movie could very well be even better. An example of the Giants significance in the movie Big Fish was when he stated, You think this town is too small for you? This town is too small for my ambition. The giant in the small city of Ashton represents the big fish in a little pond analogy and Edward Bloom s ambition. The witches eye that showed Edward death was a fantastic motif because it portrayed his fearlessness. The eye is the symbol for himself, and he realizes when he looks into the eye, death doesn t scare him. The witches eye also foreshadows his future relationship with the witch. Stanley and the boys are given strong primary colours, shown by what they wear and the description of the room often red and blue. By no means is Missouri, as progressive as say Washington or California, but I do believe we are a few steps ahead of the south. When I first met my roommates they, would use terms in conversation that I would never ever use. I was explaining to my friend s mom about how they would use certain terms. She was clearly astonished, she had not heard those terms used that since the 1970s. That conversation made me realize how something as simple as an individual s geographically location can mold and shape how you perceive the world. Not only did my location change my perception, but what my mother and father taught me morally. My father was in the Navy and lived overseas in multiple counties. He was the minority, he learned the ways of different people. Some of his best friends were people he met over there. Both my mother and father taught, us to accept everyone, don t judge people because of their religion, skin color, or background. We are all humans, just trying to make it in this world, make it harder on them because they are different? The third biggest influence is taking the time to learn and research diversity on my own. For example, someone who has trustworthy friends who tends to keep secret information secret, might view trust positively. As a child you are helpless, leaving your trust in your parents, to provide you with basic needs to be healthy, is what I believe the child s first trust instinct is. Most people think about Spain as football WorldCup, a fighting bull and Flamenco. However, Spain is very famous with its cuisine. Also known as Spain s food is very intense and flavorful. In fact, in a previous block, I wrote an essay about compared with Spain and South Korea s food culture. Food of Spain and Korea deal in common. Both countries have love of the spicy foods, and rice is a main ingredient. So Korean food is often popular in Spain and also, South Koreans are also very fond of Spanish food. For example, when one dwells on the possible risks of an action rather than deciding to take action, he often later resents himself for not at least attempting to do what he wanted. In Eliot s poem, Prufrock s fear of being misunderstood keeps him from asking a simple question: If one, settling a pillow by her head Should say: That is not what I meant at all; That is not it, at all. ... would it have been worth it, after all, (96 99) poses Prufrock. There are some predominant principles that can guide the Army s efforts in minimizing the impact of uncertainty during the force reduction. Some people may consider a person as their leader who is capable of taking them away from hardships or caring for them, or some people may consider a man steeped in wisdom and learning to be a leader. Difference notwithstanding, there still seems to be some commonality in all the perspectives behind the definition, which is related to choosing a best of the best person as their leader. The simple bottom line is that, nobody wants to have a person as his leader who doesn t have knowledge of the needs and aspirations of his people or who is not blessed with a certain temperament foe bearing hardships for his people, nor a vision for where they should be or how they should grow and influence the world around them. As the founder of tech startup, it is only natural for me to pick a leader who is a true technological visionary. It was not enough to simply pick someone who created innovative products, or created and ran a billion dollar company. For me it would have to be someone with the vision to shape the future and world around him, a person who could see how his works would directly impact the trajectory of the world and its impact on the human race at large. The older furniture in the living room matched the aging and upper class type that is Birling. During the play Sheila is the only concerned and totally serious character to the situation. There are some well linked scenes in the play setting a mood for Sheila with the marriage, her husband to be Gerald. The pink light in the house makes Shila feel more relaxed as the set looks almost like a love scene. During the play, Sheila is the main link between the Inspector and the ... The Inspector is a Catalyst in the character and emotions of Sheila, on impact hitting the house hold with shame. She is the most interested of people asking everyone what exactly they did, just like a second inspector who wants to put together the whole picture for the audience. Other example of this role is like when she spoke to Gerald. What about this girl? Her role is to be the girl that needs to know everything and gets the most upset with the strong concerns with deep emotions(urgently, cutting in) and (slowly, carefully now) as her main role is to connect with the audience. Just like how Momaday relived his ancestor s trails, I had a chance as well. I was lucky enough to be able to go on such a sacred journey that people would pay in thousands of dollars. Badrinath was literally the whole reason we went on this trip. It was known as one of the most holiest, and sacred places to be at. We arrived there later in the Afternoon. After we checked into our hotel, we went and explored the city. And while exploring the city we saw many beautiful temples, and all these lead us to the main temple, the Badrinath Temple. We had to cross over a small walking bridge which went over the Alaknandha River, It went with such force, and if you sit in that water nonstop for more than ten fifteen minutes, you will surely have a heart failure, because the water is that cold, and we are at an extreme altitude. And the most Ironic thing about this cold river is after we crossed it we have to bathe before we enter the temple, even if we had bathed in the morning. When we went to the place we were supposed to bathe, we came to find out that it was a hot spring and this hot spring was ten feet away from the extremely cold Alaknanda waters, ironic enough, I thought so. After we finished bathing there was a ritual which we had to perform. We had to get into brand new clothes and we had to give the clothes were wearing to the more unfortunate people. So after we did that, we went into the main temple, it was enriched with beautiful colors and sculptures all made since the time the temple was created. Joseph Smith s own account of that day says, My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong) and which I should join. The LDS Church believes that he translated the gold plates to what is now called the Book of Mormon, the main scripture for the LDS church (Dirkmaat,2013). It is also believed that he received many revelations from God. He was persecuted throughout his life and ended up dying a martyr at the age of 38 (McKeever,n.d.). From the oppressor in the congregation, to the monarch and his crown court, it appears that man have a will to take over and dictate others. It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that. The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication. Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow us to stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. In my eyes Youtube is also a source of communication, because it allows us to look things up, like how to videos, which contain knowledge that would be much harder to obtain ... Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into a game, so that no one actually gets harmed. Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real life things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank. • 44. Essay on Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet Parental Expectations Parental expectations are basically the way parents expect their kids to live their lives. The definition of expectation is the act of expecting; to have a prospect of future good or profit . Parents often expect their kids to be perfect. By this I mean make all the right decisions, do everything the way the parents want it to be done, and live up to their parents standards. I don t always agree with a lot of today s parental expectations because some parents try to benefit themselves instead of the kids. In this essay, I will describe parental expectations from today and from the play Romeo and Juliet. I will link some of the examples of expectations to movies, or real life scenarios. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kids have dreams of their own, too. Another situation in society today is that kids are expected to follow in their parents footsteps. Some parents that own companies expect their children to take over one day without ever asking the child s thoughts on the idea. An example of this situation is from the movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer . There is an elf named Hermey. Like all other elves in the North Pole, Hermey is expected to make toys for all the children around the world. There is one problem; Hermey doesn t want to make toys. Hermey wants to be a dentist. After hearing this, the head elf gets very angry at Hermey. Hermey is known as a misfit due to his choice and he later runs away to not have to make toys anymore and to learn more about being a dentist. It is important to always ask your children what they think of certain things and what they want in life instead of just expecting or assuming what they want without their consent. Expectations put a lot of pressure on kids and it would just be easier on them to let them make their own decisions (but still guide them in the right path). Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet In the play Romeo and Juliet, the parents expect hatred between both families. • 45. Literary Devices In A Doll s House Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House In A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen was created during 1800s time period. This play helps shine a light on the gender roles of the 1800s while also creating a twist that was uncommon for this period. During this time period, women were left home to oversee the domestic duties, while men went to commuted to work (Hughes). Men were seen as physically superior but morally inferior to women; which is also portrayed within this book (Hughes). This play marks the beginning of Henrik Ibsen s realist period, which he explored the ordinary lives of small town people (Kirszner and Mandell 881). This modern tragedy helped make Ibsen famous internationally because of the real life story it captured (Kirszner and Mandell 882). Henrik Ibsen uses an array of literary devices to help keep the reader captivated from beginning to end. Three of the most prominent literary devices used by Henrik Ibsen are symbolism, foreshadowing, and an array of themes. These literary devices help transform a basic play into a complex story of lies and deception. Symbolism is used a lot within in the play and is a figure of speech that is used when an author wants to create a certain mood or emotion in a work of literature (What is Symbolism in Literature?). Majority of A Doll House is filled with symbolism that creates an intense emotion for the reader. The setting of the play is around Christmas Day and is approaching New Year s Day. • 46. Capitalismism And Environment In order to answer questions about: if green consumption being able to solve environmental problems, if purchasing eco friendly products as well as green technology is the answer to global environmental degradation, and if capitalism is able to save the environment or not, background information certainly needs to be presented before my personal opinion is contributed. To introduce capitalism, society, and the environment, I would like to begin with the statement that humans affect nature, or the natural environment. Pollution and depletion are two ways this happens. On one side with pollution, the environment becomes contaminated by toxic items. On the other side with depletion, the environment s natural resources are being exhausted. Even though both are negative and both are bad for the environment, not one of them is necessarily better to have. To discuss capitalism, seeking profit and private property is what capitalism strives for. This is essentially their main desire. In slightly simpler words, it seeks to collect capital, or money. Capitalism affects the environment in a negative way, but it also causes stratification. The way it does this is by exploiting workers. Thinkers who are Ecological Marxists are contemporary thinkers who added onto Karl Marx s theory original proposed thought processes about capitalism. Ecological Marxist Theory brings to light the issues between capitalism s means of production and the environment. It explains how capitalism is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
