1. What is the significance of the orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia, abdominal tenderness,
hematuria, joint pain, and petechiae? What is splinter hemorrhages and what is their significance?
Orthostatic hypotension is the reduction of the systolic pressure of at least 20mmHG or the dropping
of diastolic pressure of at least 10mmHg within three minutes of standing as compared to baseline as
such, the body is often unable compensate for the changes in the blood pressure values (Fournier et

Beck, Glenn, and Joshua Charles. The Original Argument: The Federalists Case for the Constitution,
Adapted for the 21st Century. New York: Threshold Editions, 2011. Print.
398 pages Summary
Instead of the Beck and Charles telling a story of a significant person to make a point the Authors
discussed the original argument for the United States Constitution. The argument was originally
written by the federalists in the late 18th century. These historical documents are commonly referred
to as the federalist papers. Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments discussed in
the federalist papers.
Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking once
the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were being
introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander Hamilton
sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln s main objective as president was also to
preserve the Union. Hamilton wrote, Nothing remains as obvious as the fact that either the new
Constitution will be adopted or the Union will be torn apart. It is therefore necessary to examine the
advantages of the Union, as well as the evils and dangers that would result from its disbanding. (Beck
and Charles 4) Alexander Hamilton (who wrote many of the federalist

American Slavery Essay
Enormous changes swept through nearly every facet of American society in the years between the
American Revolution and the Civil War, and the institution of slavery was no exception to this rule.
Prior to the Revolution, slavery existed in every American colony. The growing population of settlers
was founded on and maintained by notions of inequality, in which indentured servants and slaves
provided the necessary manpower for the development of a largely agricultural economy and the
settlement of an ever diminishing frontier. First and second generation whites began to equate race and
servitude as white indentured servitude waned and black slaves came to represent the primary source
of forced labor in the Americas. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As natural increase and an end to the importation of African slaves stabilized the slave population,
new generations of Creole slaves began to form a distinctive African American culture. At the same
time, most white slaveholders were now fourth or fifth generation masters who lived and worked near
their slaves and took a keen interest in their welfare and affairs. A new felt paternalism both improved
the physical treatment and condition of slaves and served to further restrict and dictate their lives. The
rise of evangelicalism in the 1830s provided Southern whites with a justification for demanding
obedience by focusing on individual piety and salvation in the hereafter; in the North, by contrast, that
new religious fervor became an impetus for social reform and empowered some whites to try to rid the
world of its many evils, including slavery. Slavery underwent significant changes as the country
moved from the colonial to the antebellum era. The American slavery of 1760 1861 was shaped by the
political, economic, and religious changes affecting the nation as a whole; the latter day manifestation
of slavery was both a major departure from and an indisputable product of the earlier institution.
Following the American Revolution, whites subscribed to new egalitarian notions of government and
liberty throughout the United States. By the time of Independence, slavery was an established facet of
American society, but the

The Role Of Education In The New Zealand Government
Assignment 1 Three related pieces of writing
With the New Zealand election looming in just under six weeks, politics has dominated national news,
sparking interest for even a twenty year old university student like myself. Having never voted in an
election, my knowledge of the political system, and the terminology for that matter is far from
adequate. Stepping into the shoes of a politician, this paper has allowed me to examine the two key
ideologies that have shaped the radical reforms in New Zealand politics and more specifically, how
these have influenced the role of education.

Throughout this period, it is arguably mentioned that this was the closest New Zealand had reached to
a fair system. Carpenter (date) manifested this, indicating that for low socioeconomic households, this
was the time theoretically, that they could achieve, as there was well managed equality to the access of
resources across the social strata. Unfortunately, what comes up must always come down, and what
was once a stable society, fell in the wake of the 1940s, forcing tight economic controls and further
weakening the government after several global economic crises (Rashburge, 2013). This was the
downfall of social democracy, resulting in the uprise of the National Party.
One of the most prominent e¬xamples of social democracy was the New Zealand Milk in Schools
Schemes, which was inaugurated by the Labour Government in 1936. The purpose was to provide
school children with free milk to improve the health of young New Zealanders and make use of the
surplus milk (Ministry for Culture and Heritage, 2017). Up until 1967, thousands of children gulped
down their daily ration of milk. Ministry for Culture and Heritage (2017) added that this scheme arose
not from financial inability, but rather from the lack of knowledge of the necessary dietary needs

The Ice Age
From 2002 to 2016, the Ice Age movie franchise, produced by Blue Sky Studios, has capitalized on
events during the Pleistocene Epoch period when massive warming occurred in the earth. Even though
these movies are entertaining, they depict a view of how wildlife, plant life, and the earth s
environment drastically changed, albeit for the worse. For the most part, the release of carbon dioxide
is the causal effect of the death and destruction of the planet as it was known at that time. There has
been an ongoing debate as to the direct reason for the atmosphere s chemical composition, including
the release of harmful gases. The article, Melting of massive ice lid resulted in huge release of carbon
dioxide at the end of the Ice Age, written by Jenny Roberts
(www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160104163203.htm), suggests the melting of sea ice caused

Even though there are unchangeable factors such as the ice age, there are variables such as driving
cars, burning coal, and generating electricity, an illustration of the human footprints, which demands
alteration, if not elimination. People should question their actions, especially, if they want a clean
environment for the baby that is born today.
Ice Age, the franchise, hilariously illustrates the end of the ice age with characters that have realized
that they are, for the most part, one of a kind because their counterparts have become extinct. These
animated shows did not address the reasons for the meltdown, even though they addressed many of
the effects. Interestingly enough, it appears that the earth s warming is caused by the release of carbon
dioxide, and the melting of the sea s ice is a significant culprit of this

Slavery And United States Rights
Slavery and states rights were the most pressing issues in the 1860 presidential election. Republican
candidate Abraham Lincoln won the presidency on the basis of his promise to halt the spread of
slavery (Hillstrom). However, not all African Americans lived in slavery. African Americans that lived
in freed states had to deal with strict laws that limited their conduct and behavior. Children who lived
in northern states were able to receive their education, convicts could serve their sentences, and people
could have been buried in cemeteries but on major thing is that they all had to be segregated. African
Americans that lived in the southern states lived their life in feared of violence and racism. Many
endured mobs lynching, whipped and branded with hot iron. When the Reconstruction period started
many Americans believed that everyone should have the same constitutional rights and experience the
privileges of citizenship. Which resulted from the south to experience the Jim Crow. Jim Crow laws
were a set of ideas, social norms, life ways, role play symbols, sanctions, and devastations created
after the Civil War by white politician s intent on maintaining a system of oppressive control over
African American life and economics (Mzama Asante). Equal rights laws that had been passed during
Reconstruction continued to be replaced with discriminatory Jim Crow laws across the South.
Although Northerners and Republican lawmakers showed little interest in protecting the rights

We Have Too Much Power In A Communist Society
Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word own as, to have power or mastery over, this mean
anyone who owns something, has the power to do what they want with it. We must first ask, who
gives us the power to own something? Is it the government? Is it our peers? Is it ourselves? These are
the questions that must be answered to say who owns anything at all. The correct answer would be
that it is a combination between the three, that we as a society are the ones to say who owns
something.
First and foremost, the type of government plays a major role in deciding how much power an
individual has in owning something. In a capitalist society, anyone can own anything, because it is a
free market. The individuals of this society have all agreed, that paper money has value, and can be
exchanged for goods, property, or anything for that matter. Since this currency is in play, the people
can purchase what they want. The government then keeps track of most expensive items such as car,
land, and buildings. If there is a dispute over ownership, then the government can enforce the law,
allowing the rightful owner to own their property. In a Communist society however, the government is
ruled under a dictatorship. The ideal communist society would be that everyone gets an equal share.
This means that an individual cannot own more than their peer, and nobody gets ... Show more content

In a democratic society, the people get to vote on the laws of the country, saying who can own what
and how much they can own of it. The government would then take the laws that the people voted for,
and enforce them, so everyone can own what is theirs. Without the government enforcing these laws,
then anarchy would ensue, allowing only the strongest to own items, because they can fight for their
property. If the society is not democratic, then the peers have no say into what everyone can own. It is
up to the leaders of the country to say who can own

Alexander Zaslavsky s Rasputin
Alexander Zaslavsky was a doctoral student at Nuffeild College, Oxford University. He was also the
director of international relations at an independent political risk consultancy based in New York
called the Eurasia Group. In his works, he introduces the Rasputin or the dark forces analogy as one
that was very influential while Tsar Nicholas II was in power. Zaslavsky brings attention to the term
camarilla, meaning a little room in Spanish, which describes an advisor (or advisors) to a ruler. He
describes Nicholas II as being perceived as easily influenced and very indecisive monarch, often
surrendering to those strong individuals around him, such as his wife, Empress Alexandra. Zaslavsky
explains that, the forces around the throne ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zaslavsky does clarify that the Tsarina s attachment to mysticism is to be largely blamed on Rasputin s
court admission. Rasputin had persuaded Alexandra and the rest of the royal family to put their trust in
him, as he was able to contain Prince Alexis hemophilic condition, which was very much incurable.
By staying close to the royal family, Rasputin was able to obtain court power, having influence on
appointments concerning both church and governmental hierarchies. Zaslavsky provides examples of
Rasputin s influence on the royal family, such as the removal of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolevich in the
summer of 1915. Rasputin was perceived as able to remove and appoint high officials, all while
managing to stay out of governmental documentation. It does appear that Rasputin did not have any
political motives, and that it was merely the consolidation of personal power and prestige. His primary
motive was to maintain his position through manipulation of appointments. When it came to the First
World War, Rasputin was right beside the Tsarina, advising her as she passed on her influence to
Nicholas II. Zaslavsky asserts

Elimination Reactions
In this lab, the goal is to explore the idea of elimination reactions and investigate ways to synthesizes
alkynes. The product that will be produced is diphenylacetylene and this will be done by starting with
meso stilbene dibromide using elimination reactions. The balanced reaction is:
For an E2 reaction to occur, strong bases should be utilized for this lab since E2 reactions favor well
with strong bases. KOH is a strong base that is also acts as a strong nucleophile. This is because it
contains a hydroxyl group and they are both strong bases and nucleophiles.
Heat will also be applied to encourage the chemicals to go through the elimination reaction. There will
be two ways to apply heat so that the reaction can occur. The first way is through a thermal reaction
process using sand baths to heat the reaction. The other method of heating is to microwave the product

The Ming Dynasty Essay
The Ming Dynasty
The Chinese Empire was large and controlled most of Asia at one point in time. One of the dynasties
that ruled the empire was the Ming Family. Ruling from 1368 1644, almost three hundred years, the
Ming Dynasty impacted Chinese history very much. The purpose of this paper is to tell the history of
the Ming Dynasty s impact on the Chinese Empire, and to explain why the Chinese Empire was in fact
an empire. The Ming Dynasty had created an empire. They had the government, the military, and the
economic system to prove it. At different points in time, The Chinese Empire was the greatest in the
world, for trade, military, and other key factors in a society. The main reason for the creation of the

was also important. He had discarded the belief that
Military life was inferior and developed a militant class. This class ranked higher than any civil

At the height of the Ming Dynasty were the Maritime Expansion, Agricultural Revolution and the
Commercial Revolution. Although the agricultural and commercial revolutions had impact on the
Chinese Empire, the Maritime expansion seemed to give China more power as an empire . The
Maritime Expansion was under the third ruler Yung lo (1403 1424). Yung lo began to sponsor Naval
expansion between 1405 and continued under the leaders who followed him, Hung His (1425) and
Hsuan Le (1426 1435). There are many reasons for the Naval expansion but the Yung lo emperor
expanded trade with other countries and imported exotic goods. Expedition went to East Asia and
Southeast to Asia, Southern India, Ceylon, the Persian Gulf and Africa. Trading from Africa to
Southeast Asia made China the world s greatest commercial Naval power in the world at the time. A
great accomplishment of the Ming Dynasty was the building of the Great Wall. Even though the Great
Wall had been started earlier most of what is seen was either built or repaired by the Ming(see map

Hurricane Katrina And Its Impact On The United States
Hurricane Katrina is considered as one of the worst hurricanes ever recorded in the history of the
United States. It was the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricane ever and the third strongest on record that
had reached the United States (Chambers, 2007). According to Brinkley (2006), the hurricane
occurred on August 29th, 2005, and had a massive physical impact on the land and to the residents of
New Orleans City .Before the hurricane; there was massive destruction of the wetlands besides
construction of canals which increased the erosion rates in the lands. After the floods, much of the city

Moreover, Brinkley (2006) observed that the hurricane indicated a clear defective levee system and
the Orleans City gave a true picture of American government s neglect, prejudice, inequalities and
total dysfunction of its engineering sector especially in the city. This was evident at every stage before
the occurrence of the hurricane and after. There were several failures in the logistics concerning
disaster preparations and management, engineering malfunctions and failures as was revealed after
Hurricane Katrina (Galea Brewin, 2007). The paper tends to highlight the environmental crimes
committed before and after hurricane Katrina. The paper also vividly illustrates the lessons learned
from the disaster and possible ways of improving from the shortfalls. Lastly, it concludes the main
findings of the effects of the Hurricane Katrina.
Environment Crimes before the Hurricane Katrina
For a long time before the human driven developments along the Mississippi Delta, the Delta was well
maintained by the sediments that replenished the wetlands. These sediments helped clear the
accumulation of sands which were brought by erosions (Kessler Parker, 2006). These wetlands and
barrier islands protected the region along the Gulf Coast for thousands of years (Kirk, 2012). Over the
years, the population along the Delta region rose and most people had a negative perception on the
perennial flooding. Levees that were erected on the banks to act as protection soon become

Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell
People of all ages are taught about the importance of having a good first impression look clean, talk
clearly, use good manners. It is especially hammered into young students minds as they prepare to
enter adulthood and begin job interviews. However, what some people do not realize is the true impact
that first impressions have on their decision making ability. Whether it be the impression of a person,
place, or event, the human brain establishes an impression within the first two seconds. This
impression, when trusted, can save someone countless energy that they would spend attempting to
create a seemingly well throughout and thorough decision. The problem is, many times people
overlook their instincts and trust methodical options which take much more time and are not always
reliable sources. Malcolm Gladwell believes that the intuition you gain within the first few seconds of
observation can be just as useful as well thought out and cautiously made decisions. Throughout the
pages of Malcolm Gladwell s Blink, the message of trusting one s instinct is conveyed through the use
of anecdotes, rhetorical questions, and schemes. First, Gladwell integrates thorough anecdotes within
his work to strengthen his message and make it more convincing. For example, Gladwell ... Show

Ultimately, Gladwell conveys his message through asking the question, what would happen if we took
our instincts seriously? (pg. 7). This question challenges the readers to decide if they agree with
Gladwell or if they are still hesitant. It is in this one question that Gladwell solidifies his argument and
leaves his readers with something to think about before continuing farther into the book. All in all,
rhetorical questions are used throughout Gladwell s work to trigger a thought process within the

Crime In The Mid 1990s Essay
In the mid 1990s, after decades of relatively steady increase, crime rates in the United
States began a rapid and surprising decline. Researchers have investigated many possible explanations
for this decline. For instance, Levitt [2004] argues that the decline in crime in the mid 1990s is
explained by increases in the number of police, the size of the prison population, the decreasing crack
epidemic, and the legalization of abortion in the 1970s. Although it may be the case that Levitt s
explanations did in fact contributed to the decline in crime in the mid
1900s, it may also be the case that the exposure of lead is also an important factor that affected these
rates.
There are multiple reasons to expect that a person s lead exposure as a child could affect

Lead has also been associated directly with delinquent, criminal, and aggressive behavior.
Denno [1990] finds that lead poisoning is the most significant predictor of disciplinary problems and
one of the most significant predictors of delinquency, adult criminality, and the number and severity of
offenses. This suggests that there is a significant relationship between the amount of lead in bone,
which is a good measure of past exposure and antisocial, delinquent, and aggressive behaviors. (in this
section I plan to add more, trying to connect the association between crime and lead)

The Importance Of Poverty In Literature
The way things are written can have an effect on the audience drawn in. Most people are used to
generalized, every day vocabulary, as opposed to more complex and intricate words and grammar.
When reading an article, the easier the words are to interpret, the easier the article is to read. However,
this is not always the case. Sometimes, papers are going to be written using more advanced
vocabulary. They may even include data in the form of charts and tables. This is when it gets harder
for a general audience to read and interpret. It may be more accurate and scientific, but is it too
complex for people the comprehend? For example, there is a controversial topic of poverty on the rise.
Some people believe it is due to how one grows up, others believe it is the lack of compensation, and
some even believe it all deals with race. The two articles, What Do We Think Poverty Looks Like? ,
written by Tracie McMillan, and, Poverty, Race, and the Contexts of Achievement: Examining
Education Experiences of Children in the U.S. South , written by Maryah Stela Fram, Julie E. Miller
Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn, reveal thoughts on what contributes to poverty. The difference is, these two
articles are using two very different genres. The scholarly article, written by Maryah Stella Fram, Julie
E. Miller Cribbs, and Lee Van Horn focuses on poverty and what social workers can do to minimize
the effects. The writers of this article chose to focus on an expert audience that have deep knowledge

The Ethical Beliefs Of Judaism And Judaism
Judaism is a way of life for the devout Jew as it has significant abundance of traditions and teachings
associated with it. Its main aim is to form a proper manner between an individual and God, and the
second is the proper manner between two or more people. The core ethical teachings, the
Commandments of the Torah, the Prophetic Vision, the Book of Proverbs and its teachings bestowed
upon it, Wisdom, Righteousness, Purity and Generosity of Spirit are a constant reminder of the Jews
relationship with God.
The Commandments of the Torah Halachah which means the way of life is the foundation of the
Jewish ethical system and the essence of the 613 mitzvot, which include the written and oral Torah.
The Ten Commandments that were given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai is the basis of the covenant
between God and the Jewish people and state the central code of conduct for a devout Jew . These
commandments are split into positive and negative commandments, which highlight how a Jew should
and should not conduct themselves. The positive commandments deal with the relationship and
worship between God and his people of Israel. This can be seen in the commandment, You shall have
no other gods before me The negative commandments are concerned with individuals and their
relationship with the community on what they should not do. An example of this would be, You shall

Billy Collins Passion
Author talks about understanding your passion. What do you think Collins is talking about when he
says you can only discover passion and the passion of those around you? Before I began to discuss
what I feel the author Collins was talking about in his quote, we must define what passion really is.
There were a couple of definitions for passion.
Strong and barely controllable emotion:
Any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate:
Strong enormous feelings desire: love, adore
Strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything.
You hear all the time when people say that they are compassionate about one thing or another, one

How you use your time or don t use your time is going to be the best indication of where your future is
going to take you. Just think about when you work hard at something you become good at it, and
when you become good at doing something, the possibility will be very high that you will become
very passionate about it and enjoy it very much. Collins also stated that you cannot manufacture
passion or motivate people to feel passionate. You can only discover what ignites your passion and the
passions of those around you. (Collins, pg. 109). Now with the good to great companies they did not
say, okay, folks, let s get passionate about what we do. They went in a totally different direction by
only doing the things that folks could get passionate about. And this passion became a very important
part of the Hedgehog concept. An example of this would be the Kimberly Clarke executives who
made the shift to paper based consumer products in large because they thought they could become
more passionate about them. Another example would be Gillette executives who made the choice to

Climbing the academic ladder to tenure is a long process that requires patience, persistence and
dedication. As tenures decline , it is important to think about ways to secure a job in the academia. I
believe that tenure in universities depends on teaching as well as research and publishing. Great
scientists such as Einstein had considerable amount of published papers even before he got the
academia job and PhD. On the other hand, I believe that a high quality teaching professor, who also
focuses on research deserves a tenure position. Landing in a tenure position is very difficult, but

Additionally adhering to the right publishing strategies and guidelines can facilitae the road to tenure

President James Madison Essay
President James Madison
James Madison, (1751 1836), 4th President of the United States of America. Although he served eight
years each as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, as secretary of state, and as president,
Madison s principal contribution to the founding of the United States was as Father of the
Constitution.
Madison s place among the Founding Fathers reveals the essential qualities of his public career.
Jefferson had a superior vision of the potential for life under republican government, a greater capacity
for leadership, and a special gift for the memorable phrase, but Madison had a more subtle and
incisive political sense.

He also attacked Patrick Henry, who did not believe that the Constitution fully protected Virginia and
its people, in dramatic and finally successful debate at the Virginia ratifying convention . Madison and
Jefferson viewed republican government as resting on the virtues of the people, sustained by the self
reliance of an agricultural economy and the benefits of public education, with government itself
remaining mild and responsive to grass roots impulses. This attitude became the foundation of the
Democratic Republican Party, which was fundamentally at odds with Hamilton s concept of a strong
central government.
Madison and Jefferson then seized on widespread public sympathy for France s expansive,
revolutionary exploits to promote republican sentiment in the United States. Madison bitterly opposed
Jay s Treaty, feeling that it made the United States dependent on England and in fact tied America to
the corrupt power politics diplomacy of the Old World. With the final ratification of Jay s Treaty,
Madison felt that a commercial junta that cared very little for the republican character of the nation
had gained control. The war like attitude toward France of President John Adams, administration
alarmed Madison. The XYZ AFFAIR brought the United States and France close to war. During the

Voter Turnout In a democracy citizens are permitted to have a significant amount of influence on
government through the election of government officials. This is known as Direct Democracy, which
means that the citizens play a significant role on the laws and policies of the land. Although the liberty
of voting is available, why is the voter turnout so low? Many other countries have a much larger vote
turnout than the United States. The reason for this varies; some major points would be the

Those who campaign have a hard time reaching out to the young community. Most college students do
not own a television set, therefore are not well aware of current political affairs. In part many young
Americans feel that their vote does not matter, or that whatever they must vote for doesn t interest or
affect them in any way. Older age groups that vote tend to be more educated on politics, because they
tend to be much better educated. Ones views on politics can vary depending on the type of

how one feels towards politics. Parental views on politics influence their children s future views on

Central Idea Driving a manual transmission car is very different from driving an automatic

I. Introduction
Today about 6 million people drive a car in the United States, but the percentage of those people that
drive a manual transmission is significantly less than those who drive automatic. In every country in
Europe, and perhaps in the world, manual cars are a common sight. However, here in the U.S.A.

Transition: Ok so lets pretend we got into a manual car, we adjusted our mirrors, we put on our
seatbelts and now we re ready to go somewhere.
C. To get moving onto the road there are some things that we have to do. a. First off, we have to
release the Emergency Break.
i. Failure to do so might result in damage to the transmission and engine.
b. Next we have to step on the clutch pedal and shift the car to first gear.
c. Then we have to slowly release the clutch and start pressing on the gas pedal.
Transition: Next thing you know you re moving, but your car is starting to roar, time to change gear.
D. Changing gear from 1st to 2nd is much easier than the initial start. a. First, you step on the clutch
pedal. b. Next, you chose your gear. c. Then, you have to press on the gas lightly while releasing the
clutch
i. Note that this has to be done quickly, but not too quickly otherwise the car will give kickback
Transition: Sounds easy right? It took me about a month to fully understand it.
III. Conclusion
From what I ve been through if you ever want to learn to drive stick shift I highly recommend you go

Double Impact Essay
An Analysis of the Movie, Double Impact
The movie opens twenty five years ago in Hong Kong. The parents of two twin babies, Alex and
Chad, had borrowed money from Raymond Zhang and
Nigel Griffith, two lead smugglers. They needed the money in order to build a tunnel between Hong
Kong and the mainland. After the tunnel was built and the money collected, Nigel Griffith and
Raymond Zhang had a gang of hit men massacre Alex and Chad s family. Frank Avery, a friend of the
family, races into the scene and finds the parents already dead. The two babies are in the back seat
with a maid. She takes Alex and flees the scene. Frank sees Chad left behind and takes him and runs.

Alex arrives and head butts Chad. When Chad revives from being knocked unconscious, Frank
convinces the two brothers to help avenge the deaths of their parents.
The setting for this movie is very appropriate. They are in Hong Kong where the laws are not up to par
with the American Style. This allows the corrupt trades of Zhang, Griffith, and Alex to go on hardly
disturbed by the Hong Kong police.
The dominant theme in Double Impact is vengeance and it is seen quite readily once the action gets
rolling. Alex and Chad are out to kill Zhang and Griffith for the massacre of their parents. As the
movie rolls on, Alex becomes suspicious of Chad because he thinks that he is playing around with his
girlfriend Danielle. We see Alex s thoughts of Chad with Danielle as he becomes drunker and his mind
imagines that they are having sex together.
These thoughts enrage Alex and he fights his own brother.
The whole movie was directed and acted very well considering Chad and
Alex are both played by the same person, Jean Claude Van Damme, which justifies the movie s name,
Double Impact. The main character Jean Claude
Van Damme plays more roles than just casting. He is also the fight choreographer and one of the
producers. His talent of kickboxing has come through in his first great achievement where he played

United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter-War Years
United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter War Years
After the First World War many people in the United States wanted to turn their backs on European
and other world affairs. This has been a policy of isolationism. If this term is used to mean having
nothing to do with the outside world, then the USA was clearly not isolationist as it was involved in a
number of important international issues. The term can more accurately be used, however, to mean
refusing to become involved in international disputes and conflicts.

In the First World War over 100, 000 American men were killed. They decided on this policy because
they basically didn t want the same thing to happen. This was confirmed in 1920 when the republican
President Warren Harding came to power. He was totally against getting involved in foreign affairs.
The United States, while refusing to become involved in foreign disputes, was, however, actively
involved in preventing them from beginning. For example in 1921 2 after WW1 the USA helped set
up the Washington Naval Agreement. This was to prevent Britain, Japan, France and Italy from
increasing their navies and having an arms race like the one before 1914. They also had a ten year ban
from producing any new battleships. Also, the US secretary of state, Frank Kellog, helped the
development of the Kellog Briand pact in 1928. It made all the major powers try to avoid waging war
with each other. The USA also took part in the Geneva Peace Conference of 1932 and the World
Economic Conference of 1933. Also, throughout the whole time after WW1 the USA did not object to
immigrants landing on it s shores. All these things strongly suggest that the United States were never
isolationist in the first place.
The Americans also gave economic aid to countries which were in crisis of falling apart or to countries
who they thought would be a treat. At the end of WW1 Germany was left in ruins,

The Music Of The Pop Music Scene
M.I.A. emerged in the Indie pop music scene in 2002. M.I.A., also known as Maya Arulpragasam,
began her career in 2000 as a visual artist and filmmaker. After recording a documentary for the band
Elastica, they suggested she go into the music industry. Rather than just make music, Arulpragasam
wanted to make a statement that would be impacted politically, socially, and culturally. She sings
about third world countries and issues, specifically Sri Lanka in her album Arular. Arulpragasam drew
from the discrimination she experienced while hiding with her family during the Sri Lankan Civil War
and the horror of the massacre of the Tamil people. Arular, pushes important notions about a third
world that has no voice in a first world indie music platform. Arulpragasam issues her mission
statement Pull up the people, pull up the poor , defining war in the simplest of terms: You no like the
people they no like you/Then they go set it off with a big boom (Thornburgh).
Arulpragasam pursued art as a child at various schools, such as the Holy Family Convent, so that she
could work her way up her class. Arulpragasam explains that the darker skinned kids sat at the back by
the poor ones who played out in the street all day long (Hopper). Being a Tamil, she had darker skin,
so she was on the back row. But because of her art skills, she became useful during projects because of
her art skills and was able to break from the discrimination of the backrow.

Essay on The Theme of Knowledge in Gilgamesh and Genesis
Ancient world literature and early civilization stories are mostly centered on human s relationship with
higher beings. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very lives
were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people of biblical
times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences according to
cultural variation but the main structure, ideas, and themes are generally found correlative. It is hard to
believe that one work did not affect the others. The first great heroic epic poem of Gilgamesh and the

In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most
apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and wrong. The
Old Testament states, The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and
desirable for gaining knowledge (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and realize
their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man before he
was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with harlot he notices his abilities have been
greatly suppressed. Enkidu was grown weak, the narrator tells us, for wisdom was in him, and the
thoughts of a man were in his heart. The woman says to him, You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have
become like a god. Why do you want to run wild with the beasts in the hills? She tells him about
strong walled Uruk and the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven, and about
Gilgamesh himself. (Gilgamesh page 15). This suppression is from the gods for his acquisition of
knowledge. Both Eve s nakedness and Enkidu s loss of strength demonstrate the gods propensity to

The Indian Of The New Zealand Wars
The land wars also known as the New Zealand wars was a series of armed conflicts which took place
in New Zealand from 1845 to 1872. This occurred between the British/colonial government and the
indigenous Maori. During Captain Cook s earlier visit, he recommended New Zealand as an ideal area
for Europeans to settle, in particular, the Bay of Islands. The British government at the time payed no
attention to Captain Cooks recommendations. In 1810 the American and European whalers as well as
traders began visiting the Bay of Islands which created a settlement called Kororareka. Russell, which
was the first capital of the country, quickly became the fifth largest settlement in New Zealand filled
with brothels and grog shops. The Ngapuhi tribe which was from the North region of Auckland, were
able to trade with the Local Europeans. Furthermore, because of this the Maori came into contact with
much needed and devastating inter tribal war weapons such as the Musket. Due to this trade amongst
the Maori and Europeans, the Ngapuhi tribe were the first tribe to obtain such weapons. In the 1840s
there was a written agreement between the British crown the monarch, and more than 500 Maori
chiefs. The treaty is made up of 3 articles and was written in 2 versions Maori and English. In the first

Typical Selling Approach And Societal Marketing
TYPICAL SELLING APPROACH AND SOCIETAL MARKETING
INTRODUCTION:
Marketing is usually understood as a bridge between the companies (offering products and services)
and ultimate customer or consumers. Through marketing sales of goods and services take place
between customer and a company in exchange of money. Companies generally use typical or
traditional selling approach for their offerings. Traditionally company gather knowledge of and target
the needs and wants of a particular group of people and then market their products and services to that
targeted group and then through their sales professional sell their goods and services to the people of
targeted group (William, 2011). This is the general practice of all most all the companies and it is
referred to as typical selling.
Typical selling approaches has become absolute now as world is changing at a very fast pace. The
globalization has created a very strong competitive environment. Therefore now companies have
started thinking differently in order to cope up with the competition in the market and corporate
sectors. Companies have started switching to societal marketing approach from typical selling
approach. This helps them to gain not only competitive edge over the other companies offerings but
also provide maximum customer satisfaction and contribution towards the well being of a society.
SOCIETAL MARKETING APPROACH:
The societal marketing approach entails the concept that a business should make the decision about

Vinny Ohh Research Paper
Is becoming a genderless alien possible? Vinny Ohh is a 24 year old male who has undergone 110
cosmetic procedures, he now wants to undergo surgery that would make him genderless. He claims he
wants to become a genderless alien . Vinny Ohh should not be permitted to make surgical changes to
become a genderless alien because the surgery has never been performed before and doctors don t
know how it would affect his body in now and in the long run. Although, it would be interesting to see
if it is a possible procedure, it is highly dangerous. It is a surgery that plastic surgeons have have never
done nor heard of. This procedure has not been done yet, it s a totally new territory (Dr. Simoni). This
is important because it shows that plastic surgeons are unsure about doing the procedure. Most
importantly, plastic surgeons don t know if the procedure is possible. He s now been told by plastic
surgeons that he may never be able to have the operation which would be a world first (Pemberton).
All in all, it may not even be possible for Ohh to get the surgery. ... Show more content on

Genitals have an important purpose to the human body. Such a procedure is highly controversial since
doctors are unsure what affect the removal would have on the body s biochemistry (Dr.Simoni). This
is important because it explains that without genitals he could have serious complications. Secondly,
doctors have never done this procedure so he would be a Guinea pig . This would be a brand new
procedure and if something happens or there are complications, we don t have any idea how to address
them (Dr. Simoni). This is important because if something was to go wrong during or after the surgery
the doctors wouldn t know how to deal with it and he could be left with serious issues. Therefore,
Vinny Ohh should rethink the

African-Caribbean Concert Report
Last week, I went to an African Caribbean Concert located in Lee Hall Auditorium at Florida A M
University. There were so many great performances starting with little girls dancing to African music
and ending with people dancing to the beat of drums. There was a total of ten performances at the
concert and I liked that there was a variety of ways to showcase the talents. Instead of only dancing,
there was poetry, and singing. Out of the ten performances, there were three that really had my
attention throughout the whole performance. These three performances were Excellence Funga Alfia
Wanderlust Journey by Excellence dance studio, the featured performance by the school of dance at

Comparative Essay On Theseus Movie
The movie Immortals borrows some of the myth of Theseus for its plot. A lot of the film seems to be a
modern attempt at creating a Greek myth. Altogether this film fails to follow the myth of Theseus
although it does bring some parts of the myth into it.
There are few similarities between the film and the myth. Rewrites are in abundance in the film. At
least they placed Theseus with his mother for the opening of the tale. In an obvious rewrite in the film,
Theseus finds the Epirus bow in a rock instead of the sword and shoes left by his father. (Hamilton
209)
There is a scene in the movie where Theseus and his motley crew are about to steal a boat for their
travels, which is very unlike the myth for Theseus to take a boat on his ... Show more content on

Yet, like the character in Hamilton, they seem to be inseparable.
While it s nice to see Phaedra s appearance in the film, it s unfortunate because it is almost completely
incorrect. The only thing that is correct about Phaedra character in the film is her being romantically
linked to Theseus. The film doesn t even acknowledge his marriage to Phaedra.
The writer s intention to create a new myth is apparent in this film. There is insufficient reference to
the original myth. They only kept one of the main adventures of Theseus . For the most part there was
very little tying the movie to the myth.
Does this movie start with Theseus story of origins, or does it pertain to his myth at all? In this film
Theseus character is nothing like the actual myth. One can only surmise, the writers have deliberately
played down Theseus origins for the movie s sake. An audience loves an underdog, but would they
identify with the son of a king?
Theseus mother is not a major component in Hamilton s myth. As if his peasant status isn t enough the
film casts his character s mother as a whore and Theseus as a product of rape. If the audiences weren t
on his side now, then Theseus watching his mother s throat sliced in front of him would sure sway
them.
While Hamilton s tale is short, it does not detail much of Theseus upbringing. Hamilton briefly
mentions a grandfather, allowing the writers to take from another myth. The film makes

Worst Of Family Business
In this week s readings, I have learned the significance of leadership when failing, as well as the
process that leads to failing. While reading both stories, one discusses the tensions in Market Basket s
family owned business, and the other talks on Drucker s method to turn individual s strengths in
productivity. Within these texts, they both give insight on how teamwork and leadership affects a
business as a whole. It is shown that without strong management to make the correct decisions,
whether it be a board of executives, a sports team, or a group of college students, the whole thing
team, and brings forth failure. In the article, Market Basket Shows the Best and Worst of Family

My ideology based off what I have read and know within personal experience, giving up is the last
option possible, and sometimes I don t even accept it to be an option. In the circumstances of Market
Basket, there were methods to prevent the downfall from occurring, and still are ways to recover from
their misstep in leadership, they shouldn t give up. When Drucker speaks on the hiring process, when
a team falls short or there is a weakness within a member, they shouldn t give up. Rather, they should
look at the situation at hand and put forth efforts to solve it. But the question is, how do you know
when to give up? The cliche answer is, when it s not fun anymore. Although, things aren t always
going to be fun. I say, the only right time to give up is when one must give up to progress further.
Giving up to progress forward, meaning, if something is holding one back from improving on life,
they must let it go, in order to do better for themselves and the others around

Police Donation In Dallas
In the midst of trouble, there s a whirlwind blowing in favor of law enforcement as communities
struggle and display actions to back police departments in their sworn duties to uphold peace in the
Dallas community. From high profile celebrities of sorts, to everyday neighborhood citizens, the swell
seems to be in favor of protecting innocent, law abiding citizens, and officers of the law, as it always
has been the case in American communities in our history.
In particular, donations that have and are still coming in are going to the families of those five police
officers killed, and others injured several weeks ago, as a result of responding to ambush attacks of a
lone gunman.
One such notable news bit, as reported by the Dallas News, concerns Mark Cuban and two people
who paid $25,000 to watch a Mav s game right alongside of him. This was only a drop in the
proverbial bucket as total contributions from restaurants, lemonade stands, massive outpourings of
financial support and gifts came in from the Dallas area and its many non profits. ... Show more

Make Homemade Baby Food Essay
Making Homemade Baby Food
Making homemade baby food is not difficult. It is economically friendly and healthier than purchasing
commercially prepared food for your baby. Baby food recipes range from puree to recipes
incorporating table food into recipes for baby. It takes less time than you think to create fresh, healthy
baby food. Making homemade food assures you and your baby no preservatives are used and baby is
only getting nutritious and tasty food.
Things to Consider when Making Homemade Baby Food
Before making food for your baby, consult with your pediatrician, especially if this is the first
somewhat solid food the baby will be eating. Your pediatrician will suggest foods to introduce to the
baby and what foods should be eaten at specific ages or signs of maturing. If you choose fruits,
vegetables and meat you like; your pediatrician may suggest better ... Show more content on

If the food is heated in a microwave, stir the food thoroughly to make sure there are not hot spots that
could potentially burn your baby s mouth.
The Baby Food Process
After rice based cereal, your baby will most likely move on to pureed fruits, vegetables and meat.
Until you know what your baby will like, buy small quantities of fruits, vegetables and meat, unless
other family members consume lots of fruits, vegetables and meat. After proper washing cut the fruit
and vegetables in half and either boil, steam or bake them. If they are baked, place those in a baking
dish with enough water to almost cover the dish contents. Vegetables and fruit can be peeled before or
after cooking.
Small vegetables such as corn, peas and lima beans do not need to be halved. Bananas can just be
mashed and not cooked at all unless that is your preference. Frozen peas are much easier to prepare
than fresh peas. If preparing meat, make sure all traces of fat are removed and when cooked, make
sure the meat is well done with no trace of

Reflection Paper On Pastor
INTERVIEW PAPER
I really enjoyed executing this interview. It was a privilege to be able to include my interviewee in my
assignment, as he has been supporting my decision to further my education and proceed with my
calling through Christ. Bill Kidd has been an associate pastor for over 7 years at Bethel Baptist
Church. Pastor Kidd was in school at the same time as myself and we always were able to connect and
relate to each other whenever we got together at meetings or other gatherings. I look up to and respect
his achievement in ministry and I am looking forward to learning from him as I pursue my role in
ministry.
My first question to pastor Bill was that interested me greatly, especially as I compared it to the
personal experience I had with God s call on my life. I asked about his experience with how and why
he was called into ministry. His story was captivating, like myself, his wife felt the tug before he did.
This call seems close to my own as my wife brought it to my attention before I realized what God was
doing. When reflecting on this situation I think about Mark 4:24, And he said to them, Pay attention to
what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to
you.
The second question I inquired about dealt with a dictatorship. This enticed him to confess his past
mistakes he had made regarding this subject. Pastor Bill found out that before he could point fingers
and focus on others, he first had to deal with his

Mexican Cuisine
Mexican cuisine, a style of food that originates in Mexico, is known for its varied flavors, colourful
decoration and variety of spices and ingredients, most of which are native to the country. The cuisine
of Mexico has evolved through thousands of years of blending indigenous cultures, with later foreign
elements added after the 16th century. In November 2010, Mexican cuisine was added by UNESCO to
its lists of the world s intangible cultural heritage The staples of Mexican foods are typically corn and
beans. Corn is used to make masa, dough for tamales, tortillas, gorditas, and many other corn based
foods. Corn also are eaten fresh from the cob, and also can be as an ingredient of a number of dishes.
Aside from that, squash and peppers are also important in Mexican cuisine. Mexican cuisine is

The Spanish conquistadors brought cows, goats, and sheep to the New World, permanently changing
Mexican dietary habits. The Spanish also brought techniques to make cheeses from their homeland,

number of varieties of Mexican cheeses. These are most popular in the country although European
cheeses are made as well. Most cheeses are made with raw (unpasteurized) milk, which has caused
some health issues.Cheeses are made in the home, on small farms or ranches, and by major dairy

Strategy Implementation Process Paper
In everything that we do, we have used some kind of strategy (plan). From driving to the store, which
street to take to get there the fastest, to selecting that perfect item at the high tech store, the newest
digital gadget. It is in our nature to formulate this kind of behavior when we are given a choice. In an
organization it is much harder to accomplish that same behavior because there is more than one
individual in the process, but still possible to do. Strategy is a guide by which an organization moves
from a current state of affairs to a future desired state. In this paper I will explain the strategy
implementation concept of the basic model of strategic management that we can use to make this
happen. Strategy implementation is the process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Finally, I explained the strategy implementation process as I used it to work for me in the Distance

Ethical Behavior in Law Enforcement, Checks and Balances
Introduction
For the past few years, law enforcement in this country has dominated the news. Unfortunately, this
has been mostly in a negative light (e.g., Ferguson, Missouri; Black Lives Matter; etc...). The purpose
of this analysis is not to litigate those issues, rather to address how the police enforce ethical behavior
within their ranks and how the rights of the police are protected. The focus on this case study analysis
will be on a local law enforcement agency. That agency is the Brevard County Sheriff s Office
(BCSO). BCSO employs over 1,000 personnel, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to that, employees could be fired without cause and without some form of due process. Later that
same year, James H. Nance (a well known Melbourne attorney) was Chairman of the Civil Service
Board. He asked for and received an opinion from the Florida Attorney General that Civil Service
Hearings fell under the States Sunshine Law which meant they were declared to be public meetings
open to the public at all times (Florida Office of the Attorney General).
Florida was the second state in the country to enact the formalized Law Enforcement Officer Bill of
Rights as an extra layer of protection for Law Enforcement Officers. Florida State Statute (FSS)
112.532 Law enforcement officers and correctional officers rights establishes the rights law
enforcement officers have when subjected to internal affairs investigations.
The union contract between the Sheriffs Office and the Coastal Florida Police Benevolent Association
gives further rights to employees while being interviewed by internal affairs. Employees may be
represented by up to two individuals from among the following: (1) Association Staff Representatives;
(2) Attorneys; (3) Other representative(s) of their choice. Grievance procedures are also detailed in the
union contract (Law Enforcement Collective Bargaining Agreement).

What Happens When Relationship Building Strategies Do Not...
Relationship Building
When in a leadership position, building relationships is an important aspect. These relationships create
a network that can be used in times of need, creating change, and increase overall confidence between
yourself and your peers, clients, leaders, and subordinates. Throughout this week s reading we learned
about the many relationship building strategies. This journal will outline my relationship building
strategies, both within and outside work situations, and what happens when my strategies do not work.

As a new leader these strategies are ones that I will have to work on before I fully employ them. Two
of these strategies that would work best with me are developing mutual interests with clients and
becoming a collaborator (Gilley, 2006). Developing interests with clients allows me to ask open ended
questions that help to search for common interests. These interests help build rapport, which can help
me develop new ideas or improvements for the organization. Becoming a collaborator includes
tailoring interactions to the audience (Gilley, 2006). I am constantly doing this because not everyone is
going to react the same way, want the same information, or care about the subject. When common
interests are found the relationship and interaction between myself and others will become more
productive or meaningful.
Outside Situations
All of these strategies can be used outside of work as well. This, I believe, is because humans need
interactions and relationships to be happy. One does not have to be cut and dry at all times. It is
finding a balance between professionalism and normalcy. Understanding the common interest between
yourself and those around you, will help to increase the quality of time being spent with others. While
one does not need to be politically savvy around their non work friends, it can improve their thoughts
toward you and your family. Observing your

  • 5. Review On The Original Argument Essay Parker Drowns Mr. Fitzgerald Political Science 28 September 2016 Book review of The Original Argument Bibliography Beck, Glenn, and Joshua Charles. The Original Argument: The Federalists Case for the Constitution, Adapted for the 21st Century. New York: Threshold Editions, 2011. Print. 398 pages Summary Instead of the Beck and Charles telling a story of a significant person to make a point the Authors discussed the original argument for the United States Constitution. The argument was originally written by the federalists in the late 18th century. These historical documents are commonly referred to as the federalist papers. Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments discussed in the federalist papers. Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking once the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were being introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander Hamilton sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln s main objective as president was also to preserve the Union. Hamilton wrote, Nothing remains as obvious as the fact that either the new Constitution will be adopted or the Union will be torn apart. It is therefore necessary to examine the advantages of the Union, as well as the evils and dangers that would result from its disbanding. • 6. American Slavery Essay Enormous changes swept through nearly every facet of American society in the years between the American Revolution and the Civil War, and the institution of slavery was no exception to this rule. Prior to the Revolution, slavery existed in every American colony. The growing population of settlers was founded on and maintained by notions of inequality, in which indentured servants and slaves provided the necessary manpower for the development of a largely agricultural economy and the settlement of an ever diminishing frontier. First and second generation whites began to equate race and servitude as white indentured servitude waned and black slaves came to represent the primary source of forced labor in the Americas. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As natural increase and an end to the importation of African slaves stabilized the slave population, new generations of Creole slaves began to form a distinctive African American culture. At the same time, most white slaveholders were now fourth or fifth generation masters who lived and worked near their slaves and took a keen interest in their welfare and affairs. A new felt paternalism both improved the physical treatment and condition of slaves and served to further restrict and dictate their lives. The rise of evangelicalism in the 1830s provided Southern whites with a justification for demanding obedience by focusing on individual piety and salvation in the hereafter; in the North, by contrast, that new religious fervor became an impetus for social reform and empowered some whites to try to rid the world of its many evils, including slavery. Slavery underwent significant changes as the country moved from the colonial to the antebellum era. The American slavery of 1760 1861 was shaped by the political, economic, and religious changes affecting the nation as a whole; the latter day manifestation of slavery was both a major departure from and an indisputable product of the earlier institution. Following the American Revolution, whites subscribed to new egalitarian notions of government and liberty throughout the United States. By the time of Independence, slavery was an established facet of American society, but the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Education In The New Zealand Government Assignment 1 Three related pieces of writing With the New Zealand election looming in just under six weeks, politics has dominated national news, sparking interest for even a twenty year old university student like myself. Having never voted in an election, my knowledge of the political system, and the terminology for that matter is far from adequate. Stepping into the shoes of a politician, this paper has allowed me to examine the two key ideologies that have shaped the radical reforms in New Zealand politics and more specifically, how these have influenced the role of education. Carpenter (date) manifested this, indicating that for low socioeconomic households, this was the time theoretically, that they could achieve, as there was well managed equality to the access of resources across the social strata. Unfortunately, what comes up must always come down, and what was once a stable society, fell in the wake of the 1940s, forcing tight economic controls and further weakening the government after several global economic crises (Rashburge, 2013). This was the downfall of social democracy, resulting in the uprise of the National Party. One of the most prominent e¬xamples of social democracy was the New Zealand Milk in Schools Schemes, which was inaugurated by the Labour Government in 1936. The purpose was to provide school children with free milk to improve the health of young New Zealanders and make use of the surplus milk (Ministry for Culture and Heritage, 2017). Up until 1967, thousands of children gulped down their daily ration of milk. Ministry for Culture and Heritage (2017) added that this scheme arose not from financial inability, but rather from the lack of knowledge of the necessary dietary needs ... • 8. The Ice Age From 2002 to 2016, the Ice Age movie franchise, produced by Blue Sky Studios, has capitalized on events during the Pleistocene Epoch period when massive warming occurred in the earth. Even though these movies are entertaining, they depict a view of how wildlife, plant life, and the earth s environment drastically changed, albeit for the worse. For the most part, the release of carbon dioxide is the causal effect of the death and destruction of the planet as it was known at that time. There has been an ongoing debate as to the direct reason for the atmosphere s chemical composition, including the release of harmful gases. The article, Melting of massive ice lid resulted in huge release of carbon dioxide at the end of the Ice Age, written by Jenny Roberts (www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160104163203.htm), suggests the melting of sea ice caused the release of large amounts of carbon dioxide rather than the ... Ice Age, the franchise, hilariously illustrates the end of the ice age with characters that have realized that they are, for the most part, one of a kind because their counterparts have become extinct. • 9. Slavery And United States Rights Slavery and states rights were the most pressing issues in the 1860 presidential election. Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln won the presidency on the basis of his promise to halt the spread of slavery (Hillstrom). However, not all African Americans lived in slavery. African Americans that lived in freed states had to deal with strict laws that limited their conduct and behavior. Children who lived in northern states were able to receive their education, convicts could serve their sentences, and people could have been buried in cemeteries but on major thing is that they all had to be segregated. African Americans that lived in the southern states lived their life in feared of violence and racism. Many endured mobs lynching, whipped and branded with hot iron. When the Reconstruction period started many Americans believed that everyone should have the same constitutional rights and experience the privileges of citizenship. Which resulted from the south to experience the Jim Crow. Jim Crow laws were a set of ideas, social norms, life ways, role play symbols, sanctions, and devastations created after the Civil War by white politician s intent on maintaining a system of oppressive control over African American life and economics (Mzama Asante). Equal rights laws that had been passed during Reconstruction continued to be replaced with discriminatory Jim Crow laws across the South. • 12. We Have Too Much Power In A Communist Society Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word own as, to have power or mastery over, this mean anyone who owns something, has the power to do what they want with it. We must first ask, who gives us the power to own something? Is it the government? Is it our peers? Is it ourselves? These are the questions that must be answered to say who owns anything at all. The correct answer would be that it is a combination between the three, that we as a society are the ones to say who owns something. First and foremost, the type of government plays a major role in deciding how much power an individual has in owning something. In a capitalist society, anyone can own anything, because it is a free market. The individuals of this society have all agreed, that paper money has value, and can be exchanged for goods, property, or anything for that matter. Since this currency is in play, the people can purchase what they want. The government then keeps track of most expensive items such as car, land, and buildings. If there is a dispute over ownership, then the government can enforce the law, allowing the rightful owner to own their property. In a Communist society however, the government is ruled under a dictatorship. The ideal communist society would be that everyone gets an equal share. This means that an individual cannot own more than their peer, and nobody gets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a democratic society, the people get to vote on the laws of the country, saying who can own what and how much they can own of it. The government would then take the laws that the people voted for, and enforce them, so everyone can own what is theirs. Without the government enforcing these laws, then anarchy would ensue, allowing only the strongest to own items, because they can fight for their property. If the society is not democratic, then the peers have no say into what everyone can own. It is up to the leaders of the country to say who can own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Alexander Zaslavsky s Rasputin Alexander Zaslavsky was a doctoral student at Nuffeild College, Oxford University. He was also the director of international relations at an independent political risk consultancy based in New York called the Eurasia Group. In his works, he introduces the Rasputin or the dark forces analogy as one that was very influential while Tsar Nicholas II was in power. Zaslavsky brings attention to the term camarilla, meaning a little room in Spanish, which describes an advisor (or advisors) to a ruler. He describes Nicholas II as being perceived as easily influenced and very indecisive monarch, often surrendering to those strong individuals around him, such as his wife, Empress Alexandra. Zaslavsky explains that, the forces around the throne ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zaslavsky does clarify that the Tsarina s attachment to mysticism is to be largely blamed on Rasputin s court admission. Rasputin had persuaded Alexandra and the rest of the royal family to put their trust in him, as he was able to contain Prince Alexis hemophilic condition, which was very much incurable. By staying close to the royal family, Rasputin was able to obtain court power, having influence on appointments concerning both church and governmental hierarchies. Zaslavsky provides examples of Rasputin s influence on the royal family, such as the removal of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolevich in the summer of 1915. Rasputin was perceived as able to remove and appoint high officials, all while managing to stay out of governmental documentation. It does appear that Rasputin did not have any political motives, and that it was merely the consolidation of personal power and prestige. It is especially hammered into young students minds as they prepare to enter adulthood and begin job interviews. However, what some people do not realize is the true impact that first impressions have on their decision making ability. Whether it be the impression of a person, place, or event, the human brain establishes an impression within the first two seconds. This impression, when trusted, can save someone countless energy that they would spend attempting to create a seemingly well throughout and thorough decision. The problem is, many times people overlook their instincts and trust methodical options which take much more time and are not always reliable sources. Malcolm Gladwell believes that the intuition you gain within the first few seconds of observation can be just as useful as well thought out and cautiously made decisions. Throughout the pages of Malcolm Gladwell s Blink, the message of trusting one s instinct is conveyed through the use of anecdotes, rhetorical questions, and schemes. First, Gladwell integrates thorough anecdotes within his work to strengthen his message and make it more convincing. For example, Gladwell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers have investigated many possible explanations for this decline. Although it may be the case that Levitt s explanations did in fact contributed to the decline in crime in the mid 1900s, it may also be the case that the exposure of lead is also an important factor that affected these rates. When Chad revives from being knocked unconscious, Frank convinces the two brothers to help avenge the deaths of their parents. The setting for this movie is very appropriate. They are in Hong Kong where the laws are not up to par with the American Style. This allows the corrupt trades of Zhang, Griffith, and Alex to go on hardly disturbed by the Hong Kong police. The dominant theme in Double Impact is vengeance and it is seen quite readily once the action gets rolling. Alex and Chad are out to kill Zhang and Griffith for the massacre of their parents. As the movie rolls on, Alex becomes suspicious of Chad because he thinks that he is playing around with his girlfriend Danielle. We see Alex s thoughts of Chad with Danielle as he becomes drunker and his mind imagines that they are having sex together. These thoughts enrage Alex and he fights his own brother. The whole movie was directed and acted very well considering Chad and Alex are both played by the same person, Jean Claude Van Damme, which justifies the movie s name, Double Impact. • 34. United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter-War Years United States Isolationist Policy During the Inter War Years After the First World War many people in the United States wanted to turn their backs on European and other world affairs. This has been a policy of isolationism. If this term is used to mean having nothing to do with the outside world, then the USA was clearly not isolationist as it was involved in a number of important international issues. The term can more accurately be used, however, to mean refusing to become involved in international disputes and conflicts. The single most important feature of American isolationism was the decision not to join the League of Nations. America felt that if they did join they would be dragged into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the First World War over 100, 000 American men were killed. They decided on this policy because they basically didn t want the same thing to happen. This was confirmed in 1920 when the republican President Warren Harding came to power. He was totally against getting involved in foreign affairs. The United States, while refusing to become involved in foreign disputes, was, however, actively involved in preventing them from beginning. For example in 1921 2 after WW1 the USA helped set up the Washington Naval Agreement. This was to prevent Britain, Japan, France and Italy from increasing their navies and having an arms race like the one before 1914. They also had a ten year ban from producing any new battleships. Also, the US secretary of state, Frank Kellog, helped the development of the Kellog Briand pact in 1928. It made all the major powers try to avoid waging war with each other. The USA also took part in the Geneva Peace Conference of 1932 and the World Economic Conference of 1933. Also, throughout the whole time after WW1 the USA did not object to immigrants landing on it s shores. All these things strongly suggest that the United States were never isolationist in the first place. The Americans also gave economic aid to countries which were in crisis of falling apart or to countries who they thought would be a treat. At the end of WW1 Germany was left in ruins, ... After recording a documentary for the band Elastica, they suggested she go into the music industry. Rather than just make music, Arulpragasam wanted to make a statement that would be impacted politically, socially, and culturally. She sings about third world countries and issues, specifically Sri Lanka in her album Arular. Arulpragasam drew from the discrimination she experienced while hiding with her family during the Sri Lankan Civil War and the horror of the massacre of the Tamil people. Arular, pushes important notions about a third world that has no voice in a first world indie music platform. Arulpragasam issues her mission statement Pull up the people, pull up the poor , defining war in the simplest of terms: You no like the people they no like you/Then they go set it off with a big boom (Thornburgh). Arulpragasam pursued art as a child at various schools, such as the Holy Family Convent, so that she could work her way up her class. Arulpragasam explains that the darker skinned kids sat at the back by the poor ones who played out in the street all day long (Hopper). Being a Tamil, she had darker skin, so she was on the back row. Ancient civilizations were extremely religious, holding the belief that their very lives were in the hands of their almighty god or goddess. This holds true for both the people of biblical times as well as those of the epic era. However, their stories have some differences according to cultural variation but the main structure, ideas, and themes are generally found correlative. The divine blesses the righteous and punishes the evil man to remind their limitation and worship to the God. In the Book of Genesis, the idea of knowledge emerges throughout punishment. This theme is most apparent when Adam and Eve deceive God by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. When they do this, they are immediately given the ability to discern between right and wrong. The Old Testament states, The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining knowledge (Genesis 3:6). Promptly Adam and Eve gain knowledge and realize their nakedness as punishment from God. Likewise in Gilgamesh, Enkidu, was a wild man before he was seduced by a harlot from Uruk. After his encounter with harlot he notices his abilities have been greatly suppressed. Enkidu was grown weak, the narrator tells us, for wisdom was in him, and the thoughts of a man were in his heart. The woman says to him, You are wise, Enkidu, and now you have become like a god. Why do you want to run wild with the beasts in the hills? She tells him about strong walled Uruk and the blessed temple of Ishtar and of Anu, of love and of heaven, and about Gilgamesh himself. This occurred between the British/colonial government and the indigenous Maori. During Captain Cook s earlier visit, he recommended New Zealand as an ideal area for Europeans to settle, in particular, the Bay of Islands. The British government at the time payed no attention to Captain Cooks recommendations. In 1810 the American and European whalers as well as traders began visiting the Bay of Islands which created a settlement called Kororareka. Russell, which was the first capital of the country, quickly became the fifth largest settlement in New Zealand filled with brothels and grog shops. The Ngapuhi tribe which was from the North region of Auckland, were able to trade with the Local Europeans. Furthermore, because of this the Maori came into contact with much needed and devastating inter tribal war weapons such as the Musket. Altogether this film fails to follow the myth of Theseus although it does bring some parts of the myth into it. There are few similarities between the film and the myth. Rewrites are in abundance in the film. At least they placed Theseus with his mother for the opening of the tale. In an obvious rewrite in the film, Theseus finds the Epirus bow in a rock instead of the sword and shoes left by his father. While it s nice to see Phaedra s appearance in the film, it s unfortunate because it is almost completely incorrect. The only thing that is correct about Phaedra character in the film is her being romantically linked to Theseus. The film doesn t even acknowledge his marriage to Phaedra. The writer s intention to create a new myth is apparent in this film. There is insufficient reference to the original myth. They only kept one of the main adventures of Theseus . For the most part there was very little tying the movie to the myth. Does this movie start with Theseus story of origins, or does it pertain to his myth at all? In this film Theseus character is nothing like the actual myth. One can only surmise, the writers have deliberately played down Theseus origins for the movie s sake. An audience loves an underdog, but would they identify with the son of a king? Theseus mother is not a major component in Hamilton s myth. As if his peasant status isn t enough the film casts his character s mother as a whore and Theseus as a product of rape. If the audiences weren t on his side now, then Theseus watching his mother s throat sliced in front of him would sure sway them. While Hamilton s tale is short, it does not detail much of Theseus upbringing. Hamilton briefly mentions a grandfather, allowing the writers to take from another myth. The film makes ...
