rates of arthritis diagnosis have been steadily increasing in the last 20 years. Based on surveys and
research it was determined that by the end of 1990, it was estimated that almost 40 million people
suffered from arthritis and/or were currently being treated for it (MMWR, 2001). Further studies show
that by the end of 2005, this number had increased by almost 10 million people as reported by the
