Starbucks Case Study Report
Starbucks: The Coffee Shop Company
Darrell Jones, Earnest Workmen, Amanda Anguiano
Brenau University Starbucks: The Coffee Company
The Original Starbucks
This report is on the Starbucks coffee shop company. Starbucks was founded around 45 years ago in
1971. Its first store was located at 2000 Western Avenue in Seattle, Washington until 1976, when it
moved its operations to Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, Seattle, Washington, U.S. where they began
selling espresso coffee in 1986. The three founders Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker
were former students of the University of San Francisco. Their plan was to sell high quality coffee
beans and roasting equipment. They did not know at the onset the company would become so
successful.
In 1987 Howard Schultz took the opportunity to purchase the company from the original owners. He
then set his goals on opening new outlets outside Seattle. By the year 1989, the popularity for
Starbucks increased and Schultz was under pressure to open more stores to cash in on the public
demand. Soon, Starbucks increased its stores to more than 135 outlets and was earning up to 72
million dollars. This was the same year Schultz placed Starbucks ... Show more content on

Schultz sold 12% of the company for 25 million to raise capital for doubling its stores in the next two
year. By 1996 they increased their stores to Tokyo, Japan. In 1998, Starbucks bought U.K. based
company Seattle Coffee Company for 83 million dollars, and moved into the U.K. market. They then
purchased Torrefzione Italia a Seattle s Best coffee for 72 million and opened up an additional 150
stores. In 2007, Starbucks opened its doors in Russia. Starbucks then purchased the Teavana Company
for 620 million dollars. This was Starbucks biggest acquisition to date. In 2013 they went worldwide
with the intentions of opening stores in South Asian and South American

Sundiata Historical Accuracy
The story of Sundiata, well reproduced by the Guinean historian Niane, relates how this king managed
to found the second famous Western African empire, the empire of Mali, in the thirteenth century. This
tale is still very popular in Mali and other surrounding areas, and is especially used as a way to
exacerbate the national pride and identity. The epic of Sundiata helps people to integrate themselves in
an historical ensemble and to get a hold on their history. Historical accuracy might seem necessary for
such a thing to happen. At least, that is what our Western standards would expect to find in an
historical written tale, as if every written historical text was accurate in the first place. This debate fits
within the whole discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a strong importance of castes, like griots, who are somewhat still the keeper of traditions and
history and who used to serve the rulers as reminders of the past to help them take decisions and
orators who relayed the words of the king to the rest of the population, but who are mostly today
musicians. The smith caste is also really important in the tale, there were the first to master the work
of iron. In modern Mali, they are less important, but some old families, like the Keitas, Sundiata s own
family, managed to remain prominent in politics. The actual president of Mali is, for instance, Ibrahim
Boubacar Keïta, comes from the same large Keita family, just like many former presidents. It is just a
further proof that family in the 13th century was just as important as it is today. Indeed, family still
determines one s social status, friendships, activities and to some extent, destiny and in the case of
Sundiata s tale, his destiny was clearly determined because of his father and mother s families. These
families, just like today, were mixed, since one man could have several wives in traditional beliefs and
according to Muslim laws. The gender roles were strict, women were supposed to raise children, cook,
manage the livestock, whereas men handled the structure of the house, relations with other families
and certain food (baobab leaves,

Vitamin D plays an integral role in multiple systems in...
Vitamin D plays an integral role in multiple systems in the human body, from its function in Calcium
and Phosphorus metabolism, to modulation of the immune and reducing the risk of cardiovascular
diseases (Grober et al. 2013). Unfortunately, factors such as diet, geographic position, and skin
pigmentation are contributing to an increase of prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency around the world,
consequently leading to a higher rate of associated illnesses. Namely, Cardiovascular Diseases such as
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Hypertensive Vascular Disease, and Myocardial Infarction have been
shown to be more common in people with lower levels of Vitamin D in their system (Lavie, Lee

2013).Calcitriol inhibits the production of the Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) a hormone which plays a
role in stimulating Calcitriol synthesis in the kidneys (Zittermann 2006). Calcidiol and Calcitriol are
both catabolised to inactive metabolites to also regulate the amount of 1,2(OH)2D (Reid Bolland
2012).
During Vitamin D deficiency, PTH still attempts to maintain a relatively similar concentration of
Calcitriol compared to original levels, which would require an increase in PTH (Grober et al. 2013).
Hence, the better indicator of Vitamin D status and deficiency is Calcidiol (Zittermann 2006).

Benefits of Artificial Reefs Essay
Thesis: When an artificial reef is made many just see trash going into the sea, however there are
positive benefits that come from the making of the reef.
Perhaps the most obvious benefit of an artificial reef is the creation of a new community for aquatic
creatures to live. It is like a developer going out to sea and making a new subdivision out there for
fish. This creation of an artificial reef is the most natural way to protect the marine habitat, by
providing shelter, a source of food, and an area for mating and reproduction for a numerous amount of
creatures. The reason this is so important is because a given area of water can only support so many
marine creatures, none of these creatures can live in mid water where there is ... Show more content

The majority of this revenue is created by the tourism that these reefs create. If you don t know much
about diving here is a figure that will help you, a large percentage of all the tourism industries revenue
is from these people diving. When these sites are created this is exactly what they have in mind,
attracting thousands of divers to these easily accessible sites. These divers come to see these reefs
because the sites are known locations and the organisms growing on and the ecosystem around it is a
beautiful site that is a joy to partake in. As a matter of fact the view is so spectacular that today the
sale of underwater cameras far exceeds the sale of spear guns, which creates even more revenue for
local dive shops. This is why divers travel around the world to get a look at these sites. When these
divers come into town this is where the revenue comes in from anything such as boat tours/charters,
hotel stays, food consumption, and equipment. Many companies have keyed into this market and have
started making their own natural reefs. These companies have used them for everything from
submarine tours to burial sites for the deceased ashes. Don t forget about the fishermen, whom are also
getting wealthy due to the reefs. The fish swarm to these areas now, so the fishermen know exactly
where to fish and fill their boats up. All of these reasons can bring in anywhere from fifty to ninety

First of all,Nikola Tesla had an interesting life filled with inventing and intelligence. When Nikola
Tesla was 19 he started studying electrical engineering and got in an argument with his professor over
design flaws with the DC current.(Gilbert King 2013) The transcript from the source shows that even

industry by using alternate forms and ways to create energy for people. It shows that he wanted to find
other types of energy which would have spread his legacy. It is important to history because he would
have been able to do a lot more with these other types of energies.(Nikola Tesla and renewable

Ulu Maik The Role Of Group Communication In A Group
I always thought that working in groups meant one or two people doing all the work and the rest just
goofing off. But in our group each individual had a specific task that they had to perform to make sure
the group assignment got done. The group consisted of 9 people who are as followed; Christian Clark,
Reilyenne Nahulu, Michel Rivera, Hunter Salavea Timoteo, Kashalynn Vergara, Paola Guadalupe
Gonzalez, Kobee Ledward, Bryje Ahia, and Jeremie Saludares. The analysis covers the importance of

I learned two important things about group communication. Sitting in a circle makes talking easier for
everyone because then you will have clear eye view of who is talking. This helping eliminate any
miscommunication with not knowing who said what and being able to be heard a lot easier with the
open space. The book states An essential task of the meeting facilitator is to orchestrate meaningful
interaction during the meeting so that all group members have the opportunity to share . Having a
circle makes it a lot easier for everyone to be heard by going in a order and taking turns with who will
be talking next making sure not to skip anybody so everyone will be heard. Working in groups takes
much coordination so that everybody will continue to work effectively. The book states To contact
members when questions or issues arise even if you re not in a scheduled meeting . This being a major
part of group communication being able to adjust your time to help out somebody who has a question
or concern. The group Imessage really helped at times like this to help coordinate with who would be
answering the question based off what the question regarded but still including everybody in the
conversation so nobody will be left out and everybody would still be updated with everything that s

Who Decided To Make A Riot Analysis
Assignment 4 Who decided to make a riot one day? Why did they think violence should be the
answer? When it comes down to the people getting our voice heard, brutality should not have been a
thought that came to mind. Riots are irrelevant because of how innocent people are victimized when
they aren t the ones causing the unfair treatment in our society. I wonder why individuals go against
their own people when it s the ones who are in charge of decision making who we should be angry
with. I think that s exactly what the government wants us to do, go against each other so they could
throw us in prison and make billions of dollars off of us. If the people knew what they were doing to
themselves I guarantee they would put an end to it. It seems

Naco Culture Of Fear Essay
When reporting on terrorism, the media function as a double edged sword. They assure terrorists that
their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion against the
arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its violent
underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should minimize the
harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital to a democratic
society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to report the news as it
actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining motives associated with
journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the spectacular, the stirring, and the
controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the story first or get the facts right. Instead,
it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so that profits soar. The goals of terrorists are
not solely confined to winning the attention of the masses. In addition to that, through the media, they
aim to publicize their political causes, inform both friends and foes about the motives for terrorist
deeds, and explain their rationale for resorting to violence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What exactly is the culture of fear and how does it affect the way that the public reacts to acts of
terrorism? One fundamental characteristic within a culture of fear is narrow mindedness. The media
has contributed to this atmosphere of intolerance by over reporting the September 11th attacks.
People cannot think clearly when they are afraid. As numerous studies have shown, fear is the enemy
of reason. It distorts emotions and perceptions, and often leads to poor decisions. For people who have
suffered trauma, fear messages can sometimes trigger uncontrollable flight or fight responses with
dangerous ramifications (Hazen,

Self Identity In Initiation And Borders
Self identity is the understanding a person has of themselves. The more certain we are of our self
identify, the more likely we will stick with our beliefs and values and not conform. While individuals
often feel obligated to conform to the expectations of society, those that are confident can overcome
these pressures, leading to the findings of one s identity. Obtaining confidence is a process individuals
undergo, once achieved an individual can decide to believe in themselves. The stories Initiation and
Borders support the belief that self confident individuals are independent, optimistic, accepting, and
self aware of their abilities. Some may argue that confident individuals conform to the ways of society.
However, it is evident that people with a strong sense of confidence live according to their values and
beliefs rather than conforming. In Borders the manager of the duty free shop, Mel, had told the mother
and her son: justice was a hard thing to get, but that we shouldn t give up (King 55). Granted, the ...

easier if my mother had just said Canadian and been done with it, but I could see she wasn t going to

Correspondingly, in Initiation the author uses heather birds to symbolize freedom and acceptance as
they are all unique. Millicent expresses herself as a heather bird hence, they are free and accept
themselves for who they are. Millicent remains true to her identity: Within Millicent another melody

The Impact Of Arts On American Public Schools
The decline in the presence of fine arts, as well as their funding, in American public schools is
associated with the changing priorities of American politicians, as well as the diverse curriculum that
does not provide the arts a place. Since the relatively recent inception of new educational legislature,
such as NCLB (No Child Left Behind), arts are struggling to find a space in the classroom even
though they are integrated into the mandated curriculum. Whether it be increased focus on test
preparation in core classes, or the view fine arts are disposable sector, the nation continues to grow in
its aversion to the various performing arts. This continuing anti art sentiment has begun to lead to
fiscal consequences for arts programs, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

recognized for academic achievement and four times more likely to participate in a math and science

Eric Darr, President of the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology states that he doesn t

recent press may sway those decisions. Darr states that the two fields are stronger together, rather than

Christianity In America Research Paper
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it
stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Those are the words that are
said every day by students from elementary school to high school. But these words are unfair to many
in America who either do not believe in God or, even if they do, desire a clear separation between
church and state. This author will argue that the phrase Under God does not belong in the Pledge of
Allegiance of the United States of America.

God is a part of American culture? That seems unfair to believers in other parts of the world, and
Religion is only a significant part of everyday life if you believe. This isn t to say that Christianity is
bad, just that non theistic people are not treated fairly. Tradition is important, but sometimes tradition
should be forgotten. Around that time religion has played a significant role in the founding of
America, and even the world. For example: In God we Trust or God Bless America, or even saying Oh
my God. There is no denying that God and religion has played a large role in the formation of
America. Even still, that was back when Christianity was the only thing that people knew. In God we
Trust was put on coins in 1864, and God Bless America was written in 1918, and Oh my God was
used in a letter to Winston Churchill in 1917. That was the past, when there was so much oppression
and hate in America. This could be one of the next steps toward a better and more accepting America.

Pike and Hunting Snakes are unusual topics to be discussed with an approbational tone. They are
fierce and violent animals, but in the poems Pike written by Ted Hughes and Hunting Snake written by
Judith Wright, they are discussed with high regard and acclaim. Both poets observe the beauty and
allure of these animals who have killer instincts and an aggressive nature. In Hughes poem Pike he
uses paradox to highlight the pike s beauty and a sense of threat, in the introductory four stanzas. He
uses highly praising adjectives such as grandeur , gold , emerald and delicacy to portray the beauty,
majesty and fragility of pike. The words emerald and gold seem to illustrate Hughes very high regard

The Death Penalty Is Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Some people think that abolishing the death penalty would cause criminals to commit more capital
crimes. Although to some degree this is true, I believe that if a criminal is going to commit any capital
crime his or her first thought is how can I get away with this? Most criminal may not even think about
getting caught. For me this statement applies to the mentally ill convicts, which is one of the reasons
why I m against the death penalty. Besides the execution of an mentally ill person these are the
reasons why I oppose the death penalty the death penalty is racist, the death penalty is cruel and
unusual punishment, the death penalty is not a deterrent to violent crime, the death penalty condemns
the innocent to die, and the death penalty punishes the poor. The death penalty is a punishment to
execute, which is overseen to someone who is legally convicted of a capital crime. In my opinion the
objective of the death penalty is an eye for an eye for both the justice system and the victim family.
Some people may consider it as a lesson, which ultimately only a person who understands they have
done wrong can learn from that lesson. A mentally ill person doesn t have the mentality to understand
the real world and what is going on around them, because of their symptoms. Yet this system allows
them to represent themselves if they wish too. According to Laura Hallas, When death sentences

following standard dose administration, such as nonlinear saturable pharmacokinetics, patient age (in

Essay on The Romantic Notion of a Film Director
The intention of this essay is to discuss the romantic notion of a film director who has etched their
own cinematic vision into the body of their film work, and whether the theory and practice is dead and
an infringement of the spectator s imagination and is it the spectator who finds meaning in the film. I
will be closely looking at critical material, primarily André Bazin and Roland Barthes and applying
them to several case study films directed by Christopher Nolan including The Following (1998), The
Prestige (2006) and Inception (2010), to examine whether Nolan possesses the qualities of an auteur
and if so, does that imply an ideological view of what the auteur resembles or an artistic one. The term
auteur theory arose in France ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Barthes claims that the author is dead (Barthes, 1977: 208), a theoretical construction that perceives
the director as an idea, whereas, Bazin s principle method establishes cinematic realism.
The romantic idea of the auteur is described by film theoretician, André Bazin, observing the film
form as an idealistic phenomenon. Through the personal factor in artistic creation as a standard
reference, Bazin primarily refers to an essential literary and romantic conception of the artist as
central. He considers the relationship between film aesthetics and reality more important than the
director itself and places cinema above paintings. He described paintings as a similar ethical creation
to film stating a director can be valued according to its measurements and the celebrity of the
signature, the objective quality of the work itself was formerly held in much higher esteem. (Bazin,
1967: 250). Bazin contemplates the historical and social aspects that indeed hinder a director s
retribution to their own personalised film, thus en companying their own ideological judgement upon
the world more so in cinema where the sociological and historical cross currents are countless. (Bazin,
1967: 256)
Critic Roland Barthes, on the other hand, disagrees with the romantic notion and concludes that the
auteur is dead.

Rice and Asian Culture
Rice and Asian Culture
In 1990, the rice is grown around 520 million tons in 112 countries and 95 percent of them were
produced and consumed in Asia (Chang). The rice in Asian culture is not just cereal, but it s part of
their lives. It serves their meal almost everyday on their dining table. Oryza sativa is a species of
monocot plants and known as Asian rice. The grain was spread started from South Asia to Southeast
Asia and East Asia.
South Asia
South Asia is the region that the rice was originated from, although the historical record shows that
China, in 2700 B.C., cultivated rice farm. Among countries in South Asia, India and Bangladesh are
the largest rice production countries (Mohanty 2014). There is largest paddy field cultivation in India.
Paddy field is a land filled with water where deep water rice grows. In India, there are four kinds of
rice are grown: dry or upland rice, rain fed rice, irrigated rice, and deep water rice. Indians like to long
shaped rice, which is, dry and separate when it s cooked unlike East Asian countries. The most
popular rice in India is basmati. The best quality basmati comes from Dehra Dun located in Northern
India. The lower grade rice, patna rice is produced in Bihar located Eastern India near Nepal. Indians
in rural area produced red rice, which has thicker grain and rich nutrition. Plain boiled rice dish is
served in South India and coastal villages. Roasted dry rice mixed with vegetables is made in Bombay

Daughter to Charles Wintour, the editor of the London Evening Standard newspaper, and born into
quite a privileged back ground, it was always expected that she do great things.
However she was always quite rebellious and had a tendency to do things her way. She dropped out of
her London Finishing school and opted for a life typical of the 60 s, a life revolving around clubs.
One of her main sources of inspiration was her father, Charles Wintour. She inherited her management
style as a tough, stern editor from the man who was nicknamed Chilly Charlie . He was a decorated
World War II veteran, and his stern, almost military way of running the Evening Standard were what
she took on to manage at Vogue. People respond well to people who are sure of what they want, (60

She has had to face a number of obstacles however: In 2008 the economy had worsened and she faced
claims that her cover of Gisele Bundchen and LeBron James, had racist connotations. Her other spin
off magazine Vogue Living was suspended indefinitely and an accidental front cover remark between
a feuding pair of celebrities, added to the belief that Wintour had lost her touch.
To counteract these obstacles, she did a number of things, including going out more into the public
media eye, (she appeared on the Late Show with David Lettermen to defend the relevance of fashion
in a tough economy). As well as this, a short film, The September Issue was created, in order to give a

The Causes And Impacts Of The International Space Station
The International Space Station commonly known as the (ISS) is a large spacecraft that orbits around
Earth. This space station serves as a home for the crews of astronauts and cosmonauts. The space
station is also a unique science laboratory. Several nations such as Canada, Japan, the Russian
Federation, the United States, and eleven Member States of the European Space Agency (Belgium,
Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United
Kingdom) worked together to build and use this space station. The space station is made of parts that
were assembled by astronauts, in space itself. NASA is using this space station to learn more about the
living and working conditions in space. These discoveries will help make it possible for them to find
out if it is feasible to send humans farther into space than ever done in the past.
Political:
The International Space Station was first considered in the waning years of the Cold War. A space
station called Mir was prepared to be launched by the Soviet Union, which went into orbit in 1986.
The United States wanted to match its rival.During his 1984 State of the Union address, President
Ronald Regan announced his plans for a U.S led project. Russia was invited to join the space station
by the United States when they decided to expand their international partnership, after the collapse of
the Soviet Union in 1993. Eugene Skolnikoff, professor emeritus of political science at the

Significance Of The Zoot Suit
There are three iconic symbols of the presence of Mexican Americans in the history of the United
States: The role of Mexican Americans in the WWII, the Bracero movement, and the Zoot Suit Riot.
All three moments provide insight on the participation of Hispanics in the construction of the
American society and more importantly, on the way the Mexican American identity has been
constructed and on the ways this community has been considered, in general terms, a group of
domestic aliens. As a consequence, Mexican Americans have been segregated and denied equal
opportunity historically. However, they are here to stay, an Anglos better learn to deal with their

This attire became a symbol of identity of Mexican Americans in the California area and those men
who wanted to contest the life conditions and the social and economic situation of their community.
Wearing the Zoot Suit became a symbol of identity that would later be criminalized. The soot suit
consisted of an oversized suit, a very long jacket and exaggerated pants; with very especial
characteristics. One of the most distinctive accessories was the watch chain hanging from the pants,
between the legs, a symbol of their manhood. The other significant element was the real leather soled
shoes. These two traits were especially shocking for those who did not accept the community: They
were symbols of a more open sexuality and a disregard for the rationing policy that reign in the
country. The zoot suit became a strong political symbol due to the Zoot Suit Riot and the Sleepy
Lagoon murder, two shocking events that derailed the relationships between Anglos and Mexican
Americans. The first one occurred on May 31st, 1943, when a group of youngsters dressed in zoot

Slavery, Racism, And Slavery Essay
Slavery began before racism in North America. To prove this I will provide an analysis of
chronological events that displayed acts of slavery and racism. With that being said, Initially I will be
delving into the earliest implementations of slavery in North America. That being Jamestown Virginia
1619. Secondly, analysing an extract from 1655, where an African man named Anthony Johnson
claimed to own another black individual, John Casor as his property. Subsequently, moving onto
Winthrop D Jordan s essay, The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slavery which will divulge the first
instances of racism to occur in North America. Furthermore, touching on an article regarding
legislators in Maryland, displaying one of the first laws enacted in North America, which were racist
in nature. In contrast, expanding on a court document that was approved by white legislators showing
that black individuals were allowed to own and bequeath property in the late seventeenth century.
Penultimately, delving into the early eighteenth century where racism began to engulf North America.
Lastly, summarizing that, due to the analysis and chronological order of the evidence presented,
slavery began before racism.
The first sign of slavery in North America began in August, of 1619. This was seen when twenty black
men were sold to residents of Jamestown, Virginia by a dutch ship. With this being the case, Edmund

Dumb Ways To Die Essay
Critique on Dumb Ways To Die Target Audience: The target audience for the PSA, Dumb Ways To
Die are kids and young adults. This is because they are trying to get a message across to be safe
around trains to people who don t have common sense like kids and young adults. They are delivering
the message in a humorous way. This suggests that they do not want their target audience to get
scared; kids are more likely to get scared than older adults. If shock techniques are used where they
show realistic graphical content where people die, children would be scared around trains and not
want to go near them. So instead by adding cartoon graphical content or animated cartoons, which are
for kids mostly, then the death scenes do not look as scary as ones aimed at adults. ... Show more

Happy Chang Short Story Essay
My initial reaction to this piece of literature was one of happiness. I love sports and the mostly, the
only stories I love to read have sports tied into them one way or another. The fact that the setting took
place at a baseball game was one that got me interested into the story and grabbed my attention all the
way through. With saying this, I was really confused on how this storied played out. A jealous man
that has had a rough past umpiring a championship game that in the end he doesn t he finish umping?
Very confusing and hard to really know why the author set up and told the story the way he did. When

opened my eyes and made me realize all of the things that I didn t pick up on or were confused about
make since and all tie in to the importance of the story. A big take away from the discussion that I did
not even think about while reading the story the first time was the fact that it was a first person point
of view and that we only get Jacks perspective told us. This made me rethink the story in a way that
questioned if all the things Jack is saying is really the truth or is he just delusional. The question of
Why does Tim always side with Carl on calls that Jack made in which Carl argued came up in class
and it was discussed. I think with realizing that the story is from Jacks perspective really exposes this
question because Tim sided with Carl multiple times in a situation that Lori Chang was supposedly
throwing at their players heads (6,11). Then I wondered why would Jack be trying to protect Lori
Chang and luckily this was also brought up in our discussion. Reading the story, the first time, I didn t

Exile In The Kite Runner
Exile is defined as expulsion from one s native land by authoritative decree. Meaning one cannot go
back to the place in which they were born and raised. Although, Mahmoud Darwish has a different
take on exile saying Exile is more than just a geographical concept. You can be an exile in your
homeland, in you own house, in a room. Exile is also a theme in The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.
The quote relates to the theme of exile in novel because of Hassan s departure from the house causing
Amir to leave his homeland and childhood without him. Ali and Hassan left the house because they
did not feel welcome anymore. After everything Amir did, Ali resolves to tell Baba that him and

room but it is about the memories that take place in and around the room that make it significant.
Since Amir was exiled from the room he was also exiled from the childhood memories that took place
there. The only proof of the events of his childhood was no longer in the room but only in his mind.
Meaning the advice gave about forgetting would be unthinkable. In a changed Afghanistan there was

African American Dream In A Raisin In The Sun
In Lorraine Hansberry play A Raisin in the Sun she brings to light the life as an African American in a
metropolitan area in the nineteen fifties and sixties. At the time, her play brought insight to the African
American plead for freedom to move up in their communities and to have equal opportunity to have
their own American dream. Her understanding of African American family was really shown in this
play with the formation of the family who was struggling with the loss of the father of the house, but
she also showed how opportunity can come from anywhere and the pursuit of each family members
dreams can provide opportunity for a better life, better known as the American dream. The play A
Raisin in the Sun carries a lot of historical framework in the room of an African American household
and the trials that African American families faced. Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun shows how the
Youngers American dream of being a middle class family was earned through finding their identity as
a family, battling housing discrimination, and capitalizing on opportunity, to depict the trial and
tribulations African Americans went through in Chicago in the 1950 s. At the beginning of the play A
Raisin in the Sun the main characters from the play all show that they have dreams for themselves and
all of them deal with how they identify to themselves. These dreams are, for Walter, to be perceived as

MIH Treatment Treatment approaches The available treatment modalities for MIH is extensive but the
decision on which treatment should be used is complex and multi factorial. Factors may include:
condition severity, the patient s dental age, the child/parent s social background and expectations. [1]
Prevention Prevention is of prior importance at an early developmental age as the defective tooth is
more likely to have caries and post eruptive breakdown due to its increased porosity. [1] Appropriate
dietary advice and toothpaste with a fluoride level of at least 1,000 ppm F should be recommended.
[2] For treating spontaneous hypersensitivity, professional applications of fluoride varnish (e.g.

[8] Creamy yellow or whitish creamy defects are less porous and variable in depth [6], and may
respond to microabrasion with 18% hydrochloric acid or 37.5% phosphoric acid and abrasive paste.
[9] [10] Again, this should be undertaken cautiously as microabrasion may result in loss of enamel.
[11] Cavity Design There is still much debate of whether margin extension should include removal of
all defective enamel or only the porous enamel. The former provides sound enamel for bonding but
leads to excessive tooth tissue loss, the latter is less invasive, but the margins may have a high risk of
breakdown due to defective bonding. [1] Yet, it is agreed that adhesive restorations should be used as
opposed to those reliant upon mechanical retention (such as amalgam). [12] Glass ionomer cement
(GIC) restorations. GIC materials have adhesive capabilities with both enamel and dentine, long term
fluoride release and hydrophilicity when there is inadequate moisture control intra orally, during early
post eruptive stages. However GIC s poorer mechanical properties suggest avoidance in stress bearing
areas. In later post eruptive stages GIC may be valuable as sub layer beneath composite restorations.
[1] Composite resin restorations Composite resin material has been shown to have longer term
stability in MIH teeth, with a median survival rate of 5.2 years [13] and a success rate of 74% 100%
[14] [12] during a 4 year follow up period. Self etching adhesive was found to have

On the performance and analysis of DNS security extensions...
On the performance and analysis of DNS security extensions The domain naming server plays a vital
role in the internet as it is needed and is involved in every internet application. DNS now works well
and it is also sometimes mentioned that any new changes added to the present DNS may contribute to
interruption to its functionality and can also contribute towards additional complexity which is
undesirable. Current networks and the future networks relay essentially on DNS and it is important
that the DNS should be a secured one. The DNS can be easily attacked and such an attack can cause
dire consequences so it specifies the importance to use a secured version of DNS to avoid such
consequences. To employ such a version involves more cost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Cost for increasing security to DNS varies depending on the kind of name server used. When the data
is static then PK DNSSEC is suitable and when the data is dynamic, better option would be to
consider SK DNSSEC. Caching resolvers computational cost is large in PK DNSSEC and non
recursive servers computational cost is high in SK DNSSEC [2]. Hybrid approach is used to eliminate
these computational costs. SK DNSEC cryptographic core contributes less to the total cost in
producing symmetric certificates and thus a better performing efficient and fast cryptographic core can
be used to improve the performance. If a new resolver is added or when existing root certificate
becomes invalid then public key cryptography is used by the SK DNS. In these cases root server can
take care of the load caused by valid requests whereas the root server enabled with SK DNSSEC is
sensitive to reject of service attack. Security and performance both can be achieved by using hybrid
approach. It can be used with PK DNSSEC for the top level domain of DNS tree and for SK DNSSEC
for lower level domain of DNS tree. Size of the response packets of DNS are increased by producing
higher network traffic and latency in PK DNSSEC. SK DNSSEC is considered to be a possible
alternative for PK DNSSEC for few of the important reasons like key management is made easy with
SK DNSSEC, smaller response packets which require small memory for caching. [1]

Essay about The Black Death in The Decameron by Boccaccio
The Black Death was an epidemic disease that was also known as the Bubonic Plague. It was one of
the most tragic epidemics that has happened in the world. The Black Death hit England between the
years of 1348 1350. This plague annihilated one third of its original population. Trading ships that
came to England during this time were blamed for the spread of this disease. People believed that
when trading ships left other countries that they would bring in infested rats that carried the disease.
When the rats would come in contact with a person or bit a person is believed to be the reason on why
the deadly virus spread so quickly. Also many thought that the plague was airborne; when they

However, after the Black Death the paintings then turned for the worse. Paintings turned dark and no
one painted to show realism anymore they painted to show peoples fear of death. They also showed
that no one lives a perfect life and death is right around the corner. In the paintings, the people who
were dressed elegantly were exchanged with skeletons with dilapidated clothing. Paintings were
overflowing with tortured souls, death, dying, fire and brimstone. Before the Black Death the
atmosphere of the paintings were very bright and optimistic. The happiness that filled the paintings
before were replaced with images of Hell and Satan (The Effect the Black Death para. 3). The masks
that doctors wore during this time period to save themselves from getting the disease when treating
patients became an important visual art. In Behind the Mask: Plague Doctors they quoted:
The nose [is] half a foot long, shaped like a beak, filled with perfume with only two holes, one on each
side near the nostrils, but that can suffice to breathe and carry along with the air one breathes the

What Is The Abolishment Of Slavery
Plantation owners, or the masters of slaves, between the years of 1738 and 1745, wrote advertisements
to regain the control of slaves who ran away from their owners. These advertisements were
descriptions of how the slave looked like, the way they dressed, if they spoke any English and specific
locations where the slave was seen last. The primary goal of the advertisements was to capture the
slave and return them back to the original owner. If the slave were brought back to the owner, the
person who caught the slave would receive an incentive of some sort such as money or object from the
slave owner. The author or in this case, slave owners, are writing advertisements to get their slaves
back because they paid a large sum of money for their slaves and want their property back. In this time
period, slaves were considered property even though they were living and breathing humans.

Digital Forensic Investigations
The field of digital forensics has become increasingly more important over the last few years as both
the computer and the cellular market has grown. The field of digital forensics is relatively new [16,
17]. Various methodologies have been proposed, yet there is no accepted standard procedure within
the digital forensics community. Several forensic techniques are used with success where others have
failed to prove events beyond doubt. Reasons for this failure include inadequate resources, lack of
sufficient training and shortage of funding. Experts are scarce and expensive [18], while the lack of a
professional association governing the actions of experts has been criticized [18, 17]. Within the
research community there are also inconsistencies in terminology used to describe various processes
[19,20]. The current literature reveals a number of proposed frameworks, models and procedures that
have been put in place in an attempt to formally describe an effective digital forensic investigation
process. In digital forensic investigations, various processes focus on different actions performed, such
as the data extraction, data examination, and data gathering and so on. Others tend to be more
concerned with the analysis of the data extracted from the digital media. ... Show more content on

  • 2. Starbucks Case Study Report Starbucks: The Coffee Shop Company Darrell Jones, Earnest Workmen, Amanda Anguiano Brenau University Starbucks: The Coffee Company The Original Starbucks This report is on the Starbucks coffee shop company. Starbucks was founded around 45 years ago in 1971. Its first store was located at 2000 Western Avenue in Seattle, Washington until 1976, when it moved its operations to Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, Seattle, Washington, U.S. where they began selling espresso coffee in 1986. The three founders Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker were former students of the University of San Francisco. Their plan was to sell high quality coffee beans and roasting equipment. They did not know at the onset the company would become so successful. In 1987 Howard Schultz took the opportunity to purchase the company from the original owners. He then set his goals on opening new outlets outside Seattle. By the year 1989, the popularity for Starbucks increased and Schultz was under pressure to open more stores to cash in on the public demand. Soon, Starbucks increased its stores to more than 135 outlets and was earning up to 72 million dollars. This was the same year Schultz placed Starbucks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schultz sold 12% of the company for 25 million to raise capital for doubling its stores in the next two year. By 1996 they increased their stores to Tokyo, Japan. In 1998, Starbucks bought U.K. based company Seattle Coffee Company for 83 million dollars, and moved into the U.K. market. They then purchased Torrefzione Italia a Seattle s Best coffee for 72 million and opened up an additional 150 stores. In 2007, Starbucks opened its doors in Russia. Starbucks then purchased the Teavana Company for 620 million dollars. This was Starbucks biggest acquisition to date. • 3. Sundiata Historical Accuracy The story of Sundiata, well reproduced by the Guinean historian Niane, relates how this king managed to found the second famous Western African empire, the empire of Mali, in the thirteenth century. This tale is still very popular in Mali and other surrounding areas, and is especially used as a way to exacerbate the national pride and identity. The epic of Sundiata helps people to integrate themselves in an historical ensemble and to get a hold on their history. Historical accuracy might seem necessary for such a thing to happen. At least, that is what our Western standards would expect to find in an historical written tale, as if every written historical text was accurate in the first place. This debate fits within the whole discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a strong importance of castes, like griots, who are somewhat still the keeper of traditions and history and who used to serve the rulers as reminders of the past to help them take decisions and orators who relayed the words of the king to the rest of the population, but who are mostly today musicians. The smith caste is also really important in the tale, there were the first to master the work of iron. In modern Mali, they are less important, but some old families, like the Keitas, Sundiata s own family, managed to remain prominent in politics. The actual president of Mali is, for instance, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, comes from the same large Keita family, just like many former presidents. It is just a further proof that family in the 13th century was just as important as it is today. Indeed, family still determines one s social status, friendships, activities and to some extent, destiny and in the case of Sundiata s tale, his destiny was clearly determined because of his father and mother s families. These families, just like today, were mixed, since one man could have several wives in traditional beliefs and according to Muslim laws. The gender roles were strict, women were supposed to raise children, cook, manage the livestock, whereas men handled the structure of the house, relations with other families and certain food (baobab leaves, ... Vitamin D plays an integral role in multiple systems in the human body, from its function in Calcium and Phosphorus metabolism, to modulation of the immune and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (Grober et al. 2013). Unfortunately, factors such as diet, geographic position, and skin pigmentation are contributing to an increase of prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency around the world, consequently leading to a higher rate of associated illnesses. Namely, Cardiovascular Diseases such as Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Hypertensive Vascular Disease, and Myocardial Infarction have been shown to be more common in people with lower levels of Vitamin D in their system (Lavie, Lee Milani 2011). Vitamin D can often be obtained with two ... Calcidiol and Calcitriol are both catabolised to inactive metabolites to also regulate the amount of 1,2(OH)2D (Reid Bolland 2012). During Vitamin D deficiency, PTH still attempts to maintain a relatively similar concentration of Calcitriol compared to original levels, which would require an increase in PTH (Grober et al. 2013). Hence, the better indicator of Vitamin D status and deficiency is Calcidiol (Zittermann 2006). • 5. Benefits of Artificial Reefs Essay Thesis: When an artificial reef is made many just see trash going into the sea, however there are positive benefits that come from the making of the reef. Perhaps the most obvious benefit of an artificial reef is the creation of a new community for aquatic creatures to live. It is like a developer going out to sea and making a new subdivision out there for fish. This creation of an artificial reef is the most natural way to protect the marine habitat, by providing shelter, a source of food, and an area for mating and reproduction for a numerous amount of creatures. The reason this is so important is because a given area of water can only support so many marine creatures, none of these creatures can live in mid water where there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of this revenue is created by the tourism that these reefs create. If you don t know much about diving here is a figure that will help you, a large percentage of all the tourism industries revenue is from these people diving. When these sites are created this is exactly what they have in mind, attracting thousands of divers to these easily accessible sites. These divers come to see these reefs because the sites are known locations and the organisms growing on and the ecosystem around it is a beautiful site that is a joy to partake in. As a matter of fact the view is so spectacular that today the sale of underwater cameras far exceeds the sale of spear guns, which creates even more revenue for local dive shops. This is why divers travel around the world to get a look at these sites. When these divers come into town this is where the revenue comes in from anything such as boat tours/charters, hotel stays, food consumption, and equipment. • 9. Naco Culture Of Fear Essay When reporting on terrorism, the media function as a double edged sword. They assure terrorists that their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion against the arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its violent underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should minimize the harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital to a democratic society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to report the news as it actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining motives associated with journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the spectacular, the stirring, and the controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the story first or get the facts right. Instead, it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so that profits soar. The goals of terrorists are not solely confined to winning the attention of the masses. In addition to that, through the media, they aim to publicize their political causes, inform both friends and foes about the motives for terrorist deeds, and explain their rationale for resorting to violence ... I will be closely looking at critical material, primarily André Bazin and Roland Barthes and applying them to several case study films directed by Christopher Nolan including The Following (1998), The Prestige (2006) and Inception (2010), to examine whether Nolan possesses the qualities of an auteur and if so, does that imply an ideological view of what the auteur resembles or an artistic one. Barthes claims that the author is dead (Barthes, 1977: 208), a theoretical construction that perceives the director as an idea, whereas, Bazin s principle method establishes cinematic realism. The romantic idea of the auteur is described by film theoretician, André Bazin, observing the film form as an idealistic phenomenon. Through the personal factor in artistic creation as a standard reference, Bazin primarily refers to an essential literary and romantic conception of the artist as central. He considers the relationship between film aesthetics and reality more important than the director itself and places cinema above paintings. He described paintings as a similar ethical creation to film stating a director can be valued according to its measurements and the celebrity of the signature, the objective quality of the work itself was formerly held in much higher esteem. (Bazin, 1967: 250). Bazin contemplates the historical and social aspects that indeed hinder a director s retribution to their own personalised film, thus en companying their own ideological judgement upon the world more so in cinema where the sociological and historical cross currents are countless. (Bazin, 1967: 256) Critic Roland Barthes, on the other hand, disagrees with the romantic notion and concludes that the auteur is dead. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is encouraging the safety points of behaviour because they are two of the main causes of rail related deaths. The PSA encourages public awareness on the dangers of going too close to the edge of railway platforms in railway stations and of ignoring lights and boom gates at railway crossings. Effectiveness: The PSA received 148,085,563 views in five years, suggesting it was highly popular and had video appeal. There was however a criticism that the PSA encourages railway sucides . • 27. Happy Chang Short Story Essay My initial reaction to this piece of literature was one of happiness. I love sports and the mostly, the only stories I love to read have sports tied into them one way or another. The fact that the setting took place at a baseball game was one that got me interested into the story and grabbed my attention all the way through. With saying this, I was really confused on how this storied played out. A jealous man that has had a rough past umpiring a championship game that in the end he doesn t he finish umping? Very confusing and hard to really know why the author set up and told the story the way he did. When they first mentioned Lori Chang on page 7, I smiled because of what they described her as. Part II: Reaction after Class Discussion After the class discussion, I will have to say that I like the story even more than a initially thought. Me liking the story more is mainly due to me understanding the story better than I did the first time I read it. I am just an average reader and the discussion really opened my eyes and made me realize all of the things that I didn t pick up on or were confused about make since and all tie in to the importance of the story. A big take away from the discussion that I did not even think about while reading the story the first time was the fact that it was a first person point of view and that we only get Jacks perspective told us. This made me rethink the story in a way that questioned if all the things Jack is saying is really the truth or is he just delusional. The question of Why does Tim always side with Carl on calls that Jack made in which Carl argued came up in class and it was discussed. I think with realizing that the story is from Jacks perspective really exposes this question because Tim sided with Carl multiple times in a situation that Lori Chang was supposedly throwing at their players heads (6,11). Then I wondered why would Jack be trying to protect Lori Chang and luckily this was also brought up in our discussion. Reading the story, the first time, I didn t pay much attention to Jacks ... Although, Mahmoud Darwish has a different take on exile saying Exile is more than just a geographical concept. You can be an exile in your homeland, in you own house, in a room. Exile is also a theme in The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The quote relates to the theme of exile in novel because of Hassan s departure from the house causing Amir to leave his homeland and childhood without him. African American Dream In A Raisin In The Sun In Lorraine Hansberry play A Raisin in the Sun she brings to light the life as an African American in a metropolitan area in the nineteen fifties and sixties. At the time, her play brought insight to the African American plead for freedom to move up in their communities and to have equal opportunity to have their own American dream. Her understanding of African American family was really shown in this play with the formation of the family who was struggling with the loss of the father of the house, but she also showed how opportunity can come from anywhere and the pursuit of each family members dreams can provide opportunity for a better life, better known as the American dream. The play A Raisin in the Sun carries a lot of historical framework in the room of an African American household and the trials that African American families faced. Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun shows how the Youngers American dream of being a middle class family was earned through finding their identity as a family, battling housing discrimination, and capitalizing on opportunity, to depict the trial and tribulations African Americans went through in Chicago in the 1950 s. At the beginning of the play A Raisin in the Sun the main characters from the play all show that they have dreams for themselves and all of them deal with how they identify to themselves. Factors may include: condition severity, the patient s dental age, the child/parent s social background and expectations. [1] Prevention Prevention is of prior importance at an early developmental age as the defective tooth is more likely to have caries and post eruptive breakdown due to its increased porosity. [1] Appropriate dietary advice and toothpaste with a fluoride level of at least 1,000 ppm F should be recommended. [8] Creamy yellow or whitish creamy defects are less porous and variable in depth [6], and may respond to microabrasion with 18% hydrochloric acid or 37.5% phosphoric acid and abrasive paste. [9] [10] Again, this should be undertaken cautiously as microabrasion may result in loss of enamel. [11] Cavity Design There is still much debate of whether margin extension should include removal of all defective enamel or only the porous enamel. The former provides sound enamel for bonding but leads to excessive tooth tissue loss, the latter is less invasive, but the margins may have a high risk of breakdown due to defective bonding. [1] Yet, it is agreed that adhesive restorations should be used as opposed to those reliant upon mechanical retention (such as amalgam). [12] Glass ionomer cement (GIC) restorations. GIC materials have adhesive capabilities with both enamel and dentine, long term fluoride release and hydrophilicity when there is inadequate moisture control intra orally, during early post eruptive stages. However GIC s poorer mechanical properties suggest avoidance in stress bearing areas. In later post eruptive stages GIC may be valuable as sub layer beneath composite restorations. [1] Composite resin restorations Composite resin material has been shown to have longer term stability in MIH teeth, with a median survival rate of 5.2 years [13] and a success rate of 74% 100% [14] [12] during a 4 year follow up period. • 32. On the performance and analysis of DNS security extensions... On the performance and analysis of DNS security extensions The domain naming server plays a vital role in the internet as it is needed and is involved in every internet application. DNS now works well and it is also sometimes mentioned that any new changes added to the present DNS may contribute to interruption to its functionality and can also contribute towards additional complexity which is undesirable. Current networks and the future networks relay essentially on DNS and it is important that the DNS should be a secured one. The DNS can be easily attacked and such an attack can cause dire consequences so it specifies the importance to use a secured version of DNS to avoid such consequences. To employ such a version involves more cost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cost for increasing security to DNS varies depending on the kind of name server used. When the data is static then PK DNSSEC is suitable and when the data is dynamic, better option would be to consider SK DNSSEC. Caching resolvers computational cost is large in PK DNSSEC and non recursive servers computational cost is high in SK DNSSEC [2]. Hybrid approach is used to eliminate these computational costs. SK DNSEC cryptographic core contributes less to the total cost in producing symmetric certificates and thus a better performing efficient and fast cryptographic core can be used to improve the performance. If a new resolver is added or when existing root certificate becomes invalid then public key cryptography is used by the SK DNS. In these cases root server can take care of the load caused by valid requests whereas the root server enabled with SK DNSSEC is sensitive to reject of service attack. Security and performance both can be achieved by using hybrid approach. It can be used with PK DNSSEC for the top level domain of DNS tree and for SK DNSSEC for lower level domain of DNS tree. Size of the response packets of DNS are increased by producing higher network traffic and latency in PK DNSSEC. SK DNSSEC is considered to be a possible alternative for PK DNSSEC for few of the important reasons like key management is made easy with SK DNSSEC, smaller response packets which require small memory for caching. The field of digital forensics is relatively new [16, 17]. Various methodologies have been proposed, yet there is no accepted standard procedure within the digital forensics community. Several forensic techniques are used with success where others have failed to prove events beyond doubt. Reasons for this failure include inadequate resources, lack of sufficient training and shortage of funding. Experts are scarce and expensive [18], while the lack of a professional association governing the actions of experts has been criticized [18, 17]. Within the research community there are also inconsistencies in terminology used to describe various processes [19,20]. The current literature reveals a number of proposed frameworks, models and procedures that have been put in place in an attempt to formally describe an effective digital forensic investigation process.
