My Proposed Plan For Life
Holley Lentner Events My Proposed Plan for Life in College While attending the University of North
Florida for my first semester, I have learned several new things about myself, like empathy, through
classes like Honors Colloquium. This class, in particular, has provided me with experiences that will
aid me further along in life, like our service projects. Additionally, through the assignments of this
course I have come to realize the skills and abilities that are in need improvement in order for me to be
successful at the occupation I intend to pursue. My aspiration in life is to earn an honest living by
providing health care to those in need of such attention. With this career path, I believe that I will have
both an exciting and rewarding occupation. Helping those in need by promoting health and preventing
disease is something that I found interesting ever since I was little. For when I was younger, I was in
the hospital quite often for countless reasons, and knowing that I was going to be perfectly okay lead
my impressionable self to gain the utmost respect for those in the healthcare business and eventually
lead me to pursue a career in the field. Ultimately, I feel that this profession will allow for me to
contribute to society and in doing so, I remain confident that I will learn a great deal from an
occupation in health care. For a great man once said, Far and away the best prize that life has to offer

to validate how spending money when makes you happy, makes a lot of sense. The best parts of this
book are the parts that focus on happiness and evaluating if you are using money for its intended
purpose.
Happiness can be describe in many ways. For some they would say spending time with their loved
ones, having a good relationship, having a good job, being able to live in luxury, being able to buy all
their needs, having a good meal, being healthy, having enough money being free from debts and

Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing...
In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more underlying
assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the
asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two
or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price
is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price
is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for
pricing options in cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The
subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods
were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods
are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option
price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can
be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the
same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was
by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation.
The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and
via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in
the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through
straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. ( reference [3] Valuation of Options)
Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The comparison of accuracy and
consistence are presented and suitable method for each situation is discussed.
Then the report briefly goes through some exotic options and implements the numerical solutions with
binomial tree method. These options, includes American option which can be exercised any time

Sixteen Key Chains
Sixteen Key chains Dad, you cannot be serious. Tomorrow is going to be the biggest day of my entire
life. Why are you trying to ruin it! exclaimed sixteen year old Melanie Cartwright. She was referring
to the teenage right to finally become a licensed driver. To her it felt like she had been waiting for this

friends to fail the test the first time around. I m not ruining it, I just think that it would be smart of you

Business Meeting Etiquette
Basic Meeting Etiquette
Abstract Meeting etiquette involves all participants and the leader having respect for each other.
Meetings should be purpose driven and focused. The leader establishes the direction and purpose the
listeners should be prepared to follow along or to provide inputs to that goal. By following etiquette
appropriate for the meeting setting, more resolutions may be accomplished in the allotted time. In a
perfect world, a group synergy may evolve to increase productivity.
Basic Meeting Etiquette
Meetings are a part of managerial function in organizations. Coordination is the orderly
synchronization of all efforts of the organization to achieve the objectives (Haimann 1973, PG 38).
Individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Do not interrupt interaction between group members as long as it is productive. However, direct away
from counterproductive inputs or negativity. The first responsibility is to be organized.
The group Leader, the person scheduling the meeting, and expected to chair the group, should provide
communication in the form of an Email or memo. The contents should state why the meeting is being
held, potential discussion and brief agenda. This correspondence with a few individuals along with
group announcements of what is going on and when the meeting is will give respect to the attendees
and give them time to formulate any inputs that they may have to offer.
The group leader should continue to be an example of business etiquette by being on time for the
meeting. Not only on time, but arrive a little early for the meeting to set up and go over the materials.
To make sure one is well prepared for the meeting before the attendees start arriving. This includes
having all materials, power point presentation as well as all equipment needed for the meeting.
Running around at the last second to get things set up is impolite. Preparedness demonstrates a respect
of others. When a leader is ready and well prepared, the meeting will flow well.
Additional aspects of preparation should include a prepared and perhaps revised written agenda
generated since the initial announcement for the

The Effect Of Organ Harvesting On The Black Market
Opening the door to people being able to buy organs for transplantation if they would not be able to
receive an organ by waiting their turn through the national database, only sets the tone for the
harvesting of organs.
Subsequently, that is why it s never good to leave your drink unattended. All too often people have
been illegally drugged, and kidneys have been stolen in their sleep to satisfy the need of the black
market of organs for transplant. Moreover, an unethical professional, be it a doctor or nurse could
decide not to revive someone based on them being a match for someone that may be waiting to
purchase the first organ that is needed; especially if that person is an organ donor. For years it was said
not to allow the state to put that you re an organ donor on your license for just this reason (Gregory,
2015).
There are websites and videos like the ones below that touch on organ harvesting and human
trafficking to harvest organs on the black market. The unfortunate thing is Amazon has books upon
books on the subject.

The Importance Of Water Resources In Africa
Water is one of the vital resources required by every living organism, yet a large percentage of the
earth s people do not have access to an adequate and constant supply of water. In the developing
world, many rural communities are located in water scarce areas, where there is uneven distribution of
hydrological resources and economic and/or political barriers to pipe and distribute water from the
ground or surface (UN, 2014). People living in developing and under developed countries live with
unsanitary conditions where their everyday survival is the main concern. They are exposed to drought,
famine and death as a result of water borne diseases come from unclean water sources and food
shortage as a result of inability of land to grow crops. The problem of accessing fresh water will be
more costly and difficult and it has become more wide even in developed countries (Rosegrant et al.,
2002). Climate change and a developing water resource interest for agricultural and urban
development are increasing the pressure on water resources and variability of the hydrological regime.
By the year 2020 between 75 and 250 million people will be exposed to highly increased water stress
in Africa, in some regions of the continent, 50% of yield and agricultural production will become
more severely compromised as a result of food shortage (Ammar et al., 2016). Natural disaster,
climate change and dramatic increase of human population, effect on food security, human and animal

Literary Analysis of the Enlightenment Period and...
During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the literary world witnessed the birth of the
Enlightenment and Romantic Periods. There were similarities as well as very notable differences
between the two. There were also two prominent voices that gained notoriety during each of these two
periods. Voltaire is considered to be the pioneer of the power of reason and Rousseau is looked upon
as a legendary figure of Nineteenth Century Romanticism. This analysis will evaluate the two eras,
both writers and a literary piece.
The Enlightenment Era gave way to an age of reasoning. During this time, the writers were regarded
as philosophers. They came up with diverse theories and possessed different points of view. Never the

The focus is now shifted to individualism, emotions, and nature. (James 485)These themes provided
new ideas and different means to interpret and understand the world in a whole new light. Reasoning
was no longer the most important concept that guided society s way of looking at the world.
During the Romantic Era, the individual became more important than in the past. According to J.M.
Cohen, this era encouraged people to look at themselves not as fragments extending from heaven to
the natural world but as inimitable entities eminent in their own authenticity. (Cohen, 7) This idea
indicates that man is a distinct being entitled to explore and express his own feelings and thoughts.
Simply put, examine the man as an individual and not as a unit.
The Romantic Era was a period of that examined emotions and put them into words. Romantics
abandoned the logical traditional Western World thought which believed that intelligence was the
method used to understand the world. However, the Romantics opted to espouse imagination and
feelings as a veritable approach to empathize the world. (James ,488)
Lastly, the Romantic Era blended human emotions with nature. The interfacing of emotion and nature
was emblematic of Romantic poetry, whether it engrossed the idea of bequeathing human emotions to
an innate article like a river or connecting the scenery to the temperament of the writer. (James, 491)

Conflict Resolution Styles Paper
Conflicts can arise to an individual at any time and how a person utilizes conflict resolution strategies
depends on both their conflict style and conflict resolution skills. There are many ways to respond to
conflict situations with some styles involving a considerate or cooperative approach while others
involve either a competitive or passive approach (Hodges 2000). The online tools discussed can be
used to evaluate the conflict resolution styles as they may impact teamwork in different ways.
Individuals have different typical behaviors in conflict situations which is describable along two
dimensions that are assertiveness and cooperativeness. As a team and through the tools, we can
understand how interpersonal group dynamics are affected by conflict handling styles. It is a good tool
to help us make informed decisions about choosing an appropriate style when approaching a conflict

The results never got me with surprise as I consider myself to be both assertive and cooperative which
is part of the collaborative conflict resolution style. I never avoid or ignore the other persons point of
view on a solution as am always ready to work with the other person to find some solution which fully
satisfies the concerns of both persons. The best approach towards this is digging deep into an issue to
identify the underlying concerns of the two individuals and to find an alternative which meets both
sets of concerns. Pairing is of so much concern when focusing on the collaborative conflict resolution
style where both parties should pair to achieve both goals. It aims at breaking the win lose paradigm
and seek the win win (Fisher 2012). If the challenge is such huge, collaborating should be used to

The Life Of Everyday Life In Colonial America
Everyday life in colonial America was made up of large cities, rural settlements, and frontier regions.
Life in colonial America was nothing short of difficult. The large cities were made up of many classes
of people ranging from wealthy to slaves. There were some that had very specific skills as well as
communication skills and others who had nothing. The wealthy people dreamed of what they were
going to do in the future, however the middle class people dreamed but did not plan. They were better
off than the average poor person, but still worked very hard sunrise to sunset. In this paper I will
provide information on what life was like for various aspects and people groups in colonial America.
Slavery in colonial America was a hard way of life. Slaves varied in ages and gender. Slaves were
assigned a task or tasks that had to be completed during the day. The male slaves would participate in
the hard labor such as working on the farm. The female slaves would generally work in the household,
sent on errands or spent most of their time with the house owner. Female slaves were forced into
sexual relationships for reproduction. Reproduction would either be forced between one African slave
and another or between the slave and the house owner. Slaves were also treated like livestock and
being bought, sold and traded among owners. For the enslaved people they had to endure being
separated from their families when captured or when sold at the slave market. Their new

The Tort Of Intrusion On Seclusion
Introduction
The Ontario Court of Appeal recognized the tort of intrusion on seclusion in Jones v Tsige. This
decision provided the foundation for determining damages under the tort. The foundation in Jones was
modified by case law. This multiple case analysis will explore how an Ontario court should calculate
damages, with reference to the following cases: Alberta v Alberta Union of Provincial Employees,
Hopkins v Kay, and Condon v Canada. Taken together, these cases indicate that a damage award in
Ontario should reflect the offensiveness of the invasion of privacy and the harm it caused. These
factors should be balanced against any steps taken by the defendant to rectify the breach. Ultimately,
this assessment should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

concluded that a range is necessary to maintain consistency, predictability, and fairness between one
plaintiff and another .
To determine where a case fits within the range, an Ontario court should consider five factors when
assessing damages:
(1) The nature, incidence and occasion of the defendant s wrongful act, (2) the effect of the wrong on
the plaintiff s health, welfare, social, business or financial position, (3) any relationship, whether
domestic or otherwise, between the parties, (4) any distress, annoyance or embarrassment suffered by
the plaintiff arising from the wrong, and (5) the conduct of the parties, both before and after the
wrong, including any apology or offer of amends made by the defendant.
Sharpe JA did not mention whether this list was exhaustive. Furthermore, aggravated and punitive
damages are neither excluded nor encouraged under the tort, unless the case is exceptional.
Sharpe JA found that the defendant s deliberate and repeated actions arising from a complex domestic
arrangement, and its provocation of strong feelings and animosity in the plaintiff, favoured a higher
award. In contrast, the fact that the plaintiff suffered no

Essay On Robin Hood In Ayn Rand s Atlas Shrugged
Robin Hood is a hero outlaw of English medieval folklore who stole from the rich in order to give to
the poor. In Ayn Rand s landmark novel Atlas Shrugged, Ragnar Danneskjƶld, one of John Galt s first
converts, says he wants to destroy Robin Hood, meaning he wants to destroy the philosophy of Robin
Hood as acted out by the looting government. Danneskjƶld intends to be the man who robs the
thieving poor and gives back to the productive rich (576). The deeper moral meaning of Danneskjƶld s
claim that Robin Hood is the one man he is out to destroy is that it is not right for the intellectually
poor to steal from the intellectually rich so that all can have equal opportunity at commercial success.
In the public minded spirit of Robin Hood, the looters thought that excessive wealth should be
distributed (shared) based on need and not merit. Further, to be a virtuous industrialist Robin Hood
was idealized as virtuous was better than to be a financially successful industrialist. As Jim Taggart
explained to Cherryl Brooks, If a man is unhappy, really, truly unhappy, it means that he is a superior
sort of person (265). Self accomplishment and then self sacrifice for the greater good was thought to
be the noblest life.

broadcast, that the Robin Hood philosophy won t work and isn t as fair and socially responsible as

Eugenics And The History Of Medical Ethics
It is impossible to understand the history of eugenics and its enduring legacies in California outside
the framework of Chicana/o history . Sterilization practices in Puerto Rico and California, pre and post
legal eugenics can be examined through the context of eugenics and the history of medical ethics.
Although steady or increasing rates of sterilization in some cases reflected women s demands for birth
control, the lines between voluntary and coerced were often quite blurred and a case can be made that
negative eugenics were being implemented on a societal level in both countries.1

Years and much unethical conduct in the United States later the Belmont Report established ethical
guidelines for treating patients in 1979. The main three principals are respect for persons, beneficence,
and justice. These categories include things like informed consent, weighing risk to benefit, and
fairness. It also established rules behind informed consent such as all information must be available
and comprehensible to the patient and coercion never being acceptable. This and Principles of
Biomedical Ethics by Beauchamp and Childress, which came out in the same year, marked a major
turning point in the laws regarding ethical medical practices in the United States. However, the
underlying principle of medical ethics had been around since 1780 or so when Hippocrates directed
physicians to help and do no harm .
Puerto Rican birth control regulation gained official support in 1937 when the reason for the
sterilizations moved to being about health reasons instead of economic reasons. However, poor health
is often caused by poverty so these are really one and the same. This movement was also an attempt
by the government to keep the surplus population low. Post partum sterilization was encouraged but
birth control clinics also became increasingly common. Studies were conducted that showed a demand
for permanent sterilization after which the US government openly supported Puerto Rico s efforts.

Judge Haselton s Case Summary
In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this
escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and
wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being
examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the
justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos,
and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was
constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes
the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to
111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several
medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains
dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and
unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court
denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also
denied that reformation was of higher significance than the protection of society because there were
multiple victims affected in a public setting. Audience, Purpose, and Rhetorical Stance There is a

I would explain to Parson that he needs to possess certain management and leadership skills in order
to be eligible for that position. I would say that if he keeps up his production and creates goals to
improve these skills, then he will be able to get the promotion. I would make sure that my tone will

accredited undergraduate schools you can borrow up to $16,500 per year. Graduate students may

Over the course of the Communist Party s ruling history, the economy has fluctuated in its quality.
From Mao Zedong s reign (1949 1978), Chairman Mao focused on the industrialization of communes

immense famine throughout these communes. Since Mao s death in 1976, the Communist Party has
steered away from its communal form of economy and became the world s second largest economy

Republic of China s financial system into becoming increasingly capitalistic. The People s Republic of

China has risen in the ranks of the world s economy, effectively becoming the second fastest growing

An Examination of Cardiovascular Disease
Heart Disease:
An Examination
Heart or cardiovascular disease is an umbrella term utilized for various diseases that can affect one s
heart. As with any disease, there are certain factors that can exacerbate the onset and continuation of
this disease. For this reason, the paper below will analyze heart disease in detail and describe the
specific population that is prone to being affected by this disease, as well as what this population can
do to help alleviate the harmful effects of heart disease. In order to understand heart disease, one must
understand that there are many diseases that relate to this broad term. According to the Mayo Clinic,
Heart disease is a broad term used to describe a range of diseases that affect your heart. The various
diseases that fall under the umbrella of heart disease include diseases of [ 因 blood vessels, such as
coronary artery disease; heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias); heart infections; and heart defects [one
is] born with (congenital heart defects).
Due to the fact that there are so many various diseases connected to heart disease, it is truly quite
difficult to single out one population to be examined. However, what is known about heart disease is
that despite the fact that it can affect just about anyone, older males, especially in the African
American, Native American and Mexican American population are most at risk. The paper will,
therefore, focus on this population.

Satire In A Modest Proposal
The Era of Hard Feelings Satire has been a common theme throughout modern culture, varying from
media, to a person s everyday demeanor or personality. Satire is defined as a way of using humor to
show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, or the weakness and bad qualities of a person,
government, and/or society (Webster s). It has become a natural occurrence in America s way of life,
even all around the world. It eventually evolved into a popular way of communication called sarcasm.
However, satire was not always widely accepted in popular culture. It was often shunned or
misunderstood as a crude outlook on life. For example, an infamous piece titled A Modest Proposal

This is an extremely satirical idea simply because of the fact that it is ridiculing two types of people in
one sentence. The first, being the Irish Catholics, are made fun of quite obviously. The innuendo is
that, prior to the statement, it is suggested that there is a surplus of papist babies born nine months
after Lent, later supported by calling Catholics the principal breeders (Swift 622). This is seen as an
advantage to decrease the amount of Catholics in England, taking the opportunity and selling more
babies, but with a religious background. This idea is supported by the second, more hidden bash of
prejudice Englishmen with a Protestant religious background. The idea that the number of papists
would decrease is presented through Swift while the narrator is in the mindset of an English Protestant
just to make fun and to point out how foolish the idea of it all actually is.
The next example of extreme satire is when the author refers to an outside source. Swift goes on to say
that A very worthy person, a true lover of his country, and whose virtues I highly esteem, was lately
pleased in discoursing on this matter to offer a refinement upon my scheme (Swift 621). This
illustrates that another person is willing to support

External Factors (or External Environment)
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Republic of Korea achieved exceptional economic development.
However, the government focused on regional development rather than infrastructure development
(Hine Chelliah, 2009). Therefore, the rate of infrastructure investment had been decreasing in the
1980s in particular, which drove a lot of traffic bottlenecks in many regions, and high traffic
congestion costs in roads, railways, and seaports. At the beginning of the 1990s, the government
acknowledged the limits to fund the needed construction of infrastructure facilities and felt the need to
mobilize new sources to invest infrastructure (Kim et al., 2011).

The government modified this law again in January 2005. The revised Act established a specialized
agency ( Public Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center ) to provide technical assistance

excessive demand. In October 2009, the MRG program ended, and was replaced by the support
measurement of compensation of base cost, under which the government shares investment risks
within the limit of the government s cost, if the project was conducted as a public project. Therefore,
the changes in toll road PPP projects characteristics can be divided as shown in Table 2 (Hine
Chelliah, 2009; Kim et al., 2011).
Current Status of PPP highways
The first PPP highway is the Incheon International Airport Expressway completed in November 2000.
As of 2015, there are 24 PPP highways in Korea, and 10 of them are operating, 8 projects are under
construction, 3 of them are in the planning stage and the remaining 3 projects are under discussion.
The total investment cost for 24 routes is 41.2 trillion won. The ratio of PPP highways continuously
increased after 2000, and the PPP highways account for 11% (460km) of the total Korean national
highways (4,139km) as of 2015. On the other hand, the PPP projects were developed as solicited PPP
projects, but since 2005, projects were in progress by unsolicited projects.

The Problem Of Teen Pregnancy Rates
Introduction to Nature and Scope of Research
In reviewing the literature of multiple studies and reports, I found that there is significantly more data
and research in regards to the problem of teen pregnancy and the associated problems that are
attributed to adolescent childbearing than there are specific to the effectiveness and efficacy of second
chance homes. Second chance homes help teen mothers and their children comply with welfare reform
requirements under the 1996 law (Housing and Urban Development, 2016). Second chance homes can
also support teen families who are homeless or currently residing in foster care (Housing and Urban
Development, 2016). In addition, research has shown that over 60% of teen parents have experienced
sexual and physical abuse by household member requiring the need for alternative housing options
(Housing and Urban Development, 2016). Assessment of Effectiveness of Current Policy and
Limitations of existing Research
I would find it hard to say that the second chance home policy is effective simply based on the
currently decreasing teen pregnancy rates. Since PRWORA was enacted in 1996, there have been
several major policy changes that could also be affecting the decrease in teen pregnancy. Two
examples would be the U.S. Supreme Court ruling to extend the constitutional right to privacy to a
minor s decision to obtain contraceptives and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010
which gave all insured minors access to free

Pathophysiology Of Pneumonia Research Paper
Pathophysiology and Treatment of Pneumonia Fluid in the lungs, typically caused by an infection of
the lower respiratory tract, is a common complication of pneumonia. Symptoms of pneumonia are
documented as far back as the time of Hippocrates; who lived 460 B.C. to 370 B.C. In 1875, bacteria,
which is now known to cause pneumonia, were found in the lungs of deceased patients, and starting in
1882, work was done to determine the most common bacterial causes; Streptococcus pneumoniae, and
Klebsiella pneumonia. In 1918, pneumonia had become the cause of more deaths than tuberculosis;

Inflammation results from the movement of white blood cells (neutrophils) into the air spaces coming
from the capillaries. The neutrophils phagocytize the invading bacteria which will kill or degrade the
bacteria with the neutrophil s reactive oxygen species, antimicrobial proteins, and enzymes.
Additionally, neutrophils release a chromatin meshwork containing antimicrobial proteins that ensnare
and destroy extracellular bacteria. This mechanism triggers common signs and symptoms of bacterial
and fungal pneumonia such as fever, chills, and fatigue. In addition to the neutrophils and bacteria,
fluid fills the air sacs resulting in impaired oxygen carbon dioxide exchange which leads to oxygen
deprivation and carbon dioxide retention. The individual tendency is to breathe more rapidly in an
attempt to acquire oxygen and expire carbon dioxide. The production of mucus continues to increase
resulting in plugs; further diminishing the effectiveness of gas exchange in the lung. Blood tinged

Disorganization of course material o Class reading assignments did not match Lecture o Lecture
PowerPoints were not provided despite request from several students. It was usually provided a couple

Lack of guidance on how to study the information presented

anatomy, this exercise quickly became futile only because it did not contribute to helping to

lecture focused little or none from the information in the textbook. Lectures mostly presented
anatomical structures and so focus on images were paramount. Therefore, the reading did little to help
understand lecture material if one is not familiar enough with the anatomical structures. While this

What Will The People Read My Essay And Application Find...
When I first sat down to start this essay, I asked myself: What will the people reading my essay and
application find most important? Will it be the fact that I ve got strong experience in several areas of
sports media? Will it be the fact that I attend a top 10 public university in the entire country? Will any
of that even matter?
Personally, I believe the most important factor on why someone should receive a job or an internship
or any other opportunity is passion. Anyone can be a great writer, but is that person willing put in the
work daily, write against deadlines and even sometimes receive criticism for their work? Do they
wake up ready to get better each day? Do they wake up with a smile on their face knowing that they
are in their dream job, doing what they love?
If they don t, I certainly do. I believe that my passion is what sets me apart from other candidates. A
former professor of mine once told me a story about a young man who had talent he had never seen.
Everything came so easily to this young man prior to coming into college. This young man was the

communication plays a part in teamwork. You have to be able to communicate with your group and

you play a team sport it boots your confidence to talk to people. It helps you to speak clearly and be

Rhetorical Analysis Of Politics In The English Language
In George Orwell s Politics in the English Language, the author makes the point that politics are
distorted as a result of improper use of the English language. He breaks the issue down into four main
sources: dying metaphors, verbal false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words. He uses
these points to prove specifically what must be done in order to fix modern English. Orwell does this
through his use of rhetorical devices such as asyndeton and metaphor, which both demonstrate the
idea that he aims to convey.
George Orwell uses asyndeton to prove how unnecessary the employment of specific writing
techniques is when one is trying to get a point across to an audience. Instances of this can be found in
the portion of the essay in which Orwell takes apart the idea of pretentious diction. He uses asyndeton
to list a vast multitude of words phenomenon, element, individual (as noun), objective, categorical,
effective, virtual, basic, primary, promote, constitute, exhibit, exploit, utilize, eliminate, liquidate
which fall under the category of pretentious. The way that the words are listed without any break
between them eventually becomes monotonous. This demonstrates Orwell s idea that pretentious
diction, (Orwell) results in a more blurred understanding of points that are being made. The robotic

Use Of Flashbacks Analysis
Throughout this journal, I will be evaluating this section of the book. To begin, the first concept I will
be evaluating will be why the author uses quite a bit of flashbacks and what the flashbacks are about.
First, the author uses flashbacks for us to get a sense what happened before the crash and what her
personal feelings are. The author uses flashbacks for us because the readers do not know what
happened before the accident and for us to get a sense on why she wants to or maybe does not want to
live. With the help of these we understand why she is feeling and the reason she has these feelings.
Flashbacks also help us feel apart of the story and intrigue us to want to read more. Secondly, another
reason on why the author uses flashbacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She shows us on how she wants to fight and how she does not want to fight to wake up from her

example from the book would be .... adjusts my IV and my monitors with the other. Then she smooths
a lock of hair from my forehead. You hang in there, she tells me (Foreman 22). As one can see from
this quote this shows that Mia can hear what everyone is saying and that she has a chance to live if she
believes in herself to live. Mia still has a chance to fight and she if she will survive to wake up. Lastly,
the final reason that the author uses flashbacks is because she is an extremely talented musician.
Forman uses this a aspect to strive for her to wake up and live. Mia lived in a household where rock
and punk music were normal to listen to. (Forman) Mia was quite unique and different out of her
family because she took a liking to classical music and was extremely skilled at playing the cello. Mia
has succeeded the standards for her age in the cello and she has auditioned for Juilliard in hoping that
she will be one of the best. The author use the flashback to show her growing up playing the cello and

the difficulties of climate and terrain, the guerrilla tactics of inaccessible tribes, and the major
difficulty of commanding a body of men diverse in race and language under conditions to which they
were ill fitted (wsu.edu). Hannibal s forces were now totally inadequate to match the army of Scipio,
who had rushed to the Po River to protect the recently founded Roman colonies of Placentia (modern
Piacenza) and Cremona. The first action between the two armies took place on the plains west of the
Ticino River, and Hannibal s Numidian cavalry prevailed. Scipio was severely wounded, and the
Romans withdrew to Placentia. After manoeuvres failed to lead to a second engagement, the combined
armies of Sempronius Longus and Scipio met Hannibal on the left bank of the Trebia River south of
Placentia and were soundly defeated (December 218). This victory brought both Gauls and Ligurians
to Hannibal s side, and his army was considerably augmented by Celtic recruits. After a severe winter
(in which he contracted an eye infection), he was able to advance in the spring of 217 as far as the
Arno River (wsu.edu). Although two Roman armies were now in the field against him, he was able to
outmanoeuvre that of Gaius Flaminius

Risk Analysis on Investment Decision
Risk Analysis on Investment Decision
Net present value, internal rate of return, and profitability index are measures used to compare two
mutually exclusive capital investment proposals. SAI wants to increase market share and keep up with
technology, which can be done by either expanding their existing Digital Imaging market share or by
entering the Wireless Communication market, (UoP, 2007). Both alternatives have areas of
opportunity as well as potential risks that the company will have to consider. This paper will analyze
the investment risk decisions SAI currently faces with the objectives of increasing its market share and
keeping pace with technology.
An analysis reveals that an expansion into the wireless communication market ... Show more content

Capital risk results directly from money that the company invests. If assets are invested in another
currency, fluctuations in currency value create currency risk. Assets that are not easily sold because
the market is small and takes a long time to sell create liquidity risk. Since SAI s investment is
proposed for the US, the company might also want to borrow money for this project in the US. This is
especially true to mitigate longer term exchange rate risks. Borrowing money in the same country as
the investment reduces the company s net exposure to currency risk (meaning the rate of exchange
between a foreign currency and US currency). They would have assets located domestically and
liabilities located in domestically. The closer those two numbers become, the less exposure SAI has to
currency risk, (Plesko, 2007).
Another way that financial risk can be mitigated is by hedging using the correlations of stocks (Capital
Asset Pricing Model). This is the relationship between return and risk for portfolios. In a portfolio,
two assets are considered to be hedged if they have a negative correlation whereby a loss in one
results in a simultaneous gain in the other. The CAPM is the most popular financial model used to
evaluate returns on portfolios, (Choudhury, 2003).

It is challenging to completely remove bias from one s analysis. By adjusting one s stance

The British And The American Colonies
History 2.1
What Lead to the Fractured Relationship Between the British and the American Colonies Prior to the
Boston Massacre?
Following Britain s success in the Seven Years War and the signing of a Peace with France in 1763
Britain gained control of all territory east of the Mississippi in North America. From all of this there
was a cost; the war left Britain with large military expenses debts and additional expenses of an
enlarged empire. At an attempt to solve this problem, the politicians in Britain decided to exploit the
colonial tax revenues in order to pay off the debts and increased expenses.
Britain began to tighten control in the colonies in 1763 by stooping migration of settlers westward,
this had resulted in expensive and bloody Indian wars, something that the British currently did not
need. It also allowed the British to keep control of a smaller land mass and thus make it easier to keep
an eye on all colonists. Colonial trade was tightened and colonial taxation was increased. Central
power was increased and the power of colonial assemblies decreased.
The British first brought in the Sugar Act. The Act taxed the finer things and more luxurious items
such as wine, silk, and coffee. It was the first attempt from the British to exploit colonial tax revenue
to aid the British need. Opposition from the colonies was immediate. The revenue Act was introduced
the same year meaning the British could tax the colonies to improve the revenue of the Kingdom . The

Speech On Women s Rights
On September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, first lady Hillary Clinton delivered a speech on women s
rights at the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. As Clinton stood in front of an
audience of thousands she proudly stated If there is one message that echoes forth from this
conference, let it be that human rights are women s rights and women s rights are human rights once
and for all. The target of the conference was to inform the audience of government officials, leaders of
organizations and the public on the problems women throughout the world face. Clinton s speech
argued how women were not treated equally and that women s rights should be equal to human rights.
Throughout her speech, Clinton provided harsh examples of the abuse, rape, death and discrimination
women face, to evoke sympathy from the audience. Her overarching goal was to get action among
government officials and motivate women across the world to take control of their lives and not suffer
from these circumstances. Clinton uses a mix of pathos, ethos, logos, and anaphora to deliver a
definition argument on why women s rights are human rights.
The conference was organized to achieve equality and opportunity for women throughout the world.
First lady Clinton was chosen to serve as an honorary chair member of the conference. This provided
her the opportunity to present her argument on women s rights. Around the time of the conference,
Clinton received the international living legacy award and was

Quartering Act Dbq
First, the Stamp Act of 1765 is an act that required the colonists to pay on paper items. This act
angered many colonists and the colonists can not let this pass them. The English passed the Stamp Act
so the colonists can help pay their expenses from the French and Indian War (Colonial Unrest). With
anger, groups like the Sons of Liberties stopped stamped paper being unloaded off decks. Then,
merchants had a plan and agreed not to buy anything from the British. Also, representatives from
different colonies formed the Stamp Act Congress and demanded Parliaments to reverse the act. In
conclusion, Second, the Quartering Act of 1765 was an act which provided places and supplies for
troops and soldiers. The English passed the Quartering Act because it provided protection for the
colonists (Colonial Unrest). It frustrated the colonists because instead of protecting the colony the
colonists felt like the troops were controlling them. Also, It would make the colonies pay for some of

During the Boston Massacre, a mob of colonists in Boston harassed the British soldiers. Captain
Thomas Preston wrote, On this is a general attack was made on the men by a great number of heavy
clubs and snowballs being thrown at them... During the riot, the British troops shot 5 colonists from
the mob. The shots, however, were fired without their Captain s demand. In Captain Thomas Preston s
report he admitted that he did not order the men to fire. He wrote, This might be the case as many of
the mob called out fired, fire, but i assured the men that i gave no such order; that my words were, don
t fire, stop your firing. To this day, no one knew who called out fire . At last, the colonists called a
town meeting to demand the removal of British troops and even argued a trial for the incident of the
shots. The judges agreed to put the soldiers on trial while the colonists were the one who started

Essay on Working Class
This article entitled The Honest Workingman and Workers Control: The Experience of Toronto Skilled
Workers, 1860 1892 written by Gregory S. Kealey looks to better describe the practice of three
Toronto unions from the 1860 s to the early 1890 s and their struggles for their rights and deserved
wages in order to illustrate the strength these types of unions possess. This article recognizes that there
are industries where unions win, and still must rely on skilled labour. Many times people hear the term
industrialization and think that all craft workers get blown away, however this is not exactly the case
as this article demonstrates. Kealey looks at three separate cases in three separate industries to identify
the significant variations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labour unions played a great role in the battle between the capitalist world and the labourers who
wanted their rights to stay intact. In the Toronto moulding department, the union s claim to control
was the central issue being discussed. Many attempts at strikes were mentioned resulting in major
struggles for the working class. Eventually, there industry wide agreements in stove foundries, but
until this the strength of the moulders depended solely on their skill and control of the work process
through their union. The Iron Moulders differed from the Coopers in that they maintained a high level
of workplace control into the twentieth century. This was mainly due to the strength of their
organization, but also relied on the slower introduction of machinery to replace physical workers in
this industry, and therefore the workers had time to perfect their craft before the machines arrived.
(Kealey, 1976) The third, and probably most supportive case given by Kealey is that of the Toronto
printer s industry and union, with their control of the shop floor demonstrating early union power.
These printers had a very strong tradition of craft pride and identified well with their work. It was
obvious that you had to be literate to be involved in printing, and therefore these printing trades were
very exclusive, and to belong you needed to show a great deal of intelligence and knowledge. Because
of this, printers in these

United States and started writing books of her experiences and how she was able to keep her sanity.

Rwanda genocide she decided to become more engaged with forgiveness and faith. Her first task was

The History of Rock and Roll Music Essay
The 1960s were the classic age of rock music. The main sub genres were defined in the 1960s. The
paradigm of rock music as the alternative to commercial pop music was established in the 1960s. Wild
experimentation alloweds rock musicians to explore a range of musical styles that few musicians had
attempted before 1966. Captain Beefheart and the Velvet Underground also created a different kind of
rock music within rock music, a different paradigm within the new paradigm, one that will influence
alternative musicians for decades. More than musical giants like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, humble
musicians like Captain Beefheart, the Velvet Underground and the Red Crayola may be the true heroes
of the 1960s. A black man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They followed his dreams. Dillon had turned rock music into an expression of the ambitions of youth.
Around this time commercial rock music completely changed as it hit the coast of California. This
change came in the form of surf music. The beach boys had taken rock music and put a spin on it with
vocal harmonies. While before rock music was a way of fighting the system California turned it into a
music all about having fun at the beaches and parties. By the 60 s the times were ready for change but
something drastic still needed to happen. England would become a major part of American rock. In
England Mersey beat was born. Mersey beat was rock but with history behind it. From this came
bands like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Yardbirds, The Animals, and many others. The Rolling
stones became the sensation throughout England. They re first record became one of the most
successful singles of the era. The yard birds were the most experimental of them all. Out of the
Yardbirds came three of the best guitarists in history: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimi Page. The
second generation of the 60 s created the Kinks and The Who. Both went on to record concept albums
and rock operas that paraphrased the British operetta at the sound of rock music. Then in the Mid 60 s
The Cream and Led Zeppelin brought change with a louder, harder blues rock mix. Cream had very
long solos and Led Zeppelins fast riffs. This was truly

  • 2. My Proposed Plan For Life Holley Lentner Events My Proposed Plan for Life in College While attending the University of North Florida for my first semester, I have learned several new things about myself, like empathy, through classes like Honors Colloquium. This class, in particular, has provided me with experiences that will aid me further along in life, like our service projects. Additionally, through the assignments of this course I have come to realize the skills and abilities that are in need improvement in order for me to be successful at the occupation I intend to pursue. My aspiration in life is to earn an honest living by providing health care to those in need of such attention. With this career path, I believe that I will have both an exciting and rewarding occupation. Helping those in need by promoting health and preventing disease is something that I found interesting ever since I was little. For when I was younger, I was in the hospital quite often for countless reasons, and knowing that I was going to be perfectly okay lead my impressionable self to gain the utmost respect for those in the healthcare business and eventually lead me to pursue a career in the field. Ultimately, I feel that this profession will allow for me to contribute to society and in doing so, I remain confident that I will learn a great deal from an occupation in health care. • 6. Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing... In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more underlying assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for pricing options in cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation. The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. ( reference [3] Valuation of Options) Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The comparison of accuracy and consistence are presented and suitable method for each situation is discussed. Then the report briefly goes through some exotic options and implements the numerical solutions with binomial tree method. • 12. The Importance Of Water Resources In Africa Water is one of the vital resources required by every living organism, yet a large percentage of the earth s people do not have access to an adequate and constant supply of water. In the developing world, many rural communities are located in water scarce areas, where there is uneven distribution of hydrological resources and economic and/or political barriers to pipe and distribute water from the ground or surface (UN, 2014). People living in developing and under developed countries live with unsanitary conditions where their everyday survival is the main concern. They are exposed to drought, famine and death as a result of water borne diseases come from unclean water sources and food shortage as a result of inability of land to grow crops. The problem of accessing fresh water will be more costly and difficult and it has become more wide even in developed countries (Rosegrant et al., 2002). Climate change and a developing water resource interest for agricultural and urban development are increasing the pressure on water resources and variability of the hydrological regime. By the year 2020 between 75 and 250 million people will be exposed to highly increased water stress in Africa, in some regions of the continent, 50% of yield and agricultural production will become more severely compromised as a result of food shortage (Ammar et al., 2016). There were similarities as well as very notable differences between the two. There were also two prominent voices that gained notoriety during each of these two periods. Voltaire is considered to be the pioneer of the power of reason and Rousseau is looked upon as a legendary figure of Nineteenth Century Romanticism. The focus is now shifted to individualism, emotions, and nature. (James 485)These themes provided new ideas and different means to interpret and understand the world in a whole new light. Reasoning was no longer the most important concept that guided society s way of looking at the world. During the Romantic Era, the individual became more important than in the past. According to J.M. Cohen, this era encouraged people to look at themselves not as fragments extending from heaven to the natural world but as inimitable entities eminent in their own authenticity. (Cohen, 7) This idea indicates that man is a distinct being entitled to explore and express his own feelings and thoughts. Simply put, examine the man as an individual and not as a unit. The Romantic Era was a period of that examined emotions and put them into words. Romantics abandoned the logical traditional Western World thought which believed that intelligence was the method used to understand the world. However, the Romantics opted to espouse imagination and feelings as a veritable approach to empathize the world. (James ,488) Lastly, the Romantic Era blended human emotions with nature. • 22. The Tort Of Intrusion On Seclusion Introduction The Ontario Court of Appeal recognized the tort of intrusion on seclusion in Jones v Tsige. This decision provided the foundation for determining damages under the tort. The foundation in Jones was modified by case law. This multiple case analysis will explore how an Ontario court should calculate damages, with reference to the following cases: Alberta v Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, Hopkins v Kay, and Condon v Canada. Taken together, these cases indicate that a damage award in Ontario should reflect the offensiveness of the invasion of privacy and the harm it caused. The interest protected by the tort is intangible. Therefore, proof that a recognized economic interest was harmed is not required. For this reason, Sharpe JA capped potential damages at $20,000. Sharpe JA is trying to leave room to differentiate between degrees of highly offensive intrusions. He concluded that a range is necessary to maintain consistency, predictability, and fairness between one plaintiff and another . To determine where a case fits within the range, an Ontario court should consider five factors when assessing damages: (1) The nature, incidence and occasion of the defendant s wrongful act, (2) the effect of the wrong on the plaintiff s health, welfare, social, business or financial position, (3) any relationship, whether domestic or otherwise, between the parties, (4) any distress, annoyance or embarrassment suffered by the plaintiff arising from the wrong, and (5) the conduct of the parties, both before and after the wrong, including any apology or offer of amends made by the defendant. Sharpe JA did not mention whether this list was exhaustive. Furthermore, aggravated and punitive damages are neither excluded nor encouraged under the tort, unless the case is exceptional. Sharpe JA found that the defendant s deliberate and repeated actions arising from a complex domestic arrangement, and its provocation of strong feelings and animosity in the plaintiff, favoured a higher award. • 23. Essay On Robin Hood In Ayn Rand s Atlas Shrugged Robin Hood is a hero outlaw of English medieval folklore who stole from the rich in order to give to the poor. In Ayn Rand s landmark novel Atlas Shrugged, Ragnar Danneskjƶld, one of John Galt s first converts, says he wants to destroy Robin Hood, meaning he wants to destroy the philosophy of Robin Hood as acted out by the looting government. Danneskjƶld intends to be the man who robs the thieving poor and gives back to the productive rich (576). The deeper moral meaning of Danneskjƶld s claim that Robin Hood is the one man he is out to destroy is that it is not right for the intellectually poor to steal from the intellectually rich so that all can have equal opportunity at commercial success. In the public minded spirit of Robin Hood, the looters thought that excessive wealth should be distributed (shared) based on need and not merit. Further, to be a virtuous industrialist Robin Hood was idealized as virtuous was better than to be a financially successful industrialist. As Jim Taggart explained to Cherryl Brooks, If a man is unhappy, really, truly unhappy, it means that he is a superior sort of person (265). Sterilization practices in Puerto Rico and California, pre and post legal eugenics can be examined through the context of eugenics and the history of medical ethics. Although steady or increasing rates of sterilization in some cases reflected women s demands for birth control, the lines between voluntary and coerced were often quite blurred and a case can be made that negative eugenics were being implemented on a societal level in both countries.1 It is impossible to talk about eugenics in the United States and Puerto Rico without some context of the history. This and Principles of Biomedical Ethics by Beauchamp and Childress, which came out in the same year, marked a major turning point in the laws regarding ethical medical practices in the United States. However, the underlying principle of medical ethics had been around since 1780 or so when Hippocrates directed physicians to help and do no harm . Puerto Rican birth control regulation gained official support in 1937 when the reason for the sterilizations moved to being about health reasons instead of economic reasons. However, poor health is often caused by poverty so these are really one and the same. This movement was also an attempt by the government to keep the surplus population low. Post partum sterilization was encouraged but birth control clinics also became increasingly common. In the court case being examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos, and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to 111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. It has become a natural occurrence in America s way of life, even all around the world. It eventually evolved into a popular way of communication called sarcasm. This is seen as an advantage to decrease the amount of Catholics in England, taking the opportunity and selling more babies, but with a religious background. This idea is supported by the second, more hidden bash of prejudice Englishmen with a Protestant religious background. The idea that the number of papists would decrease is presented through Swift while the narrator is in the mindset of an English Protestant just to make fun and to point out how foolish the idea of it all actually is. The Problem Of Teen Pregnancy Rates Introduction to Nature and Scope of Research In reviewing the literature of multiple studies and reports, I found that there is significantly more data and research in regards to the problem of teen pregnancy and the associated problems that are attributed to adolescent childbearing than there are specific to the effectiveness and efficacy of second chance homes. Second chance homes help teen mothers and their children comply with welfare reform requirements under the 1996 law (Housing and Urban Development, 2016). Second chance homes can also support teen families who are homeless or currently residing in foster care (Housing and Urban Development, 2016). In addition, research has shown that over 60% of teen parents have experienced sexual and physical abuse by household member requiring the need for alternative housing options (Housing and Urban Development, 2016). Assessment of Effectiveness of Current Policy and Limitations of existing Research I would find it hard to say that the second chance home policy is effective simply based on the currently decreasing teen pregnancy rates. Since PRWORA was enacted in 1996, there have been several major policy changes that could also be affecting the decrease in teen pregnancy. Rhetorical Analysis Of Politics In The English Language In George Orwell s Politics in the English Language, the author makes the point that politics are distorted as a result of improper use of the English language. He breaks the issue down into four main sources: dying metaphors, verbal false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words. He uses these points to prove specifically what must be done in order to fix modern English. Orwell does this through his use of rhetorical devices such as asyndeton and metaphor, which both demonstrate the idea that he aims to convey. George Orwell uses asyndeton to prove how unnecessary the employment of specific writing techniques is when one is trying to get a point across to an audience. Instances of this can be found in the portion of the essay in which Orwell takes apart the idea of pretentious diction. He uses asyndeton to list a vast multitude of words phenomenon, element, individual (as noun), objective, categorical, effective, virtual, basic, primary, promote, constitute, exhibit, exploit, utilize, eliminate, liquidate which fall under the category of pretentious. The way that the words are listed without any break between them eventually becomes monotonous. This demonstrates Orwell s idea that pretentious diction, (Orwell) results in a more blurred understanding of points that are being made. The robotic tone given off by the ... • 40. Use Of Flashbacks Analysis Throughout this journal, I will be evaluating this section of the book. To begin, the first concept I will be evaluating will be why the author uses quite a bit of flashbacks and what the flashbacks are about. First, the author uses flashbacks for us to get a sense what happened before the crash and what her personal feelings are. The author uses flashbacks for us because the readers do not know what happened before the accident and for us to get a sense on why she wants to or maybe does not want to live. With the help of these we understand why she is feeling and the reason she has these feelings. Flashbacks also help us feel apart of the story and intrigue us to want to read more. Secondly, another reason on why the author uses flashbacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She shows us on how she wants to fight and how she does not want to fight to wake up from her coma. The nurses has been trying to give her encouragement and that it is her choice to stay alive. An example from the book would be .... adjusts my IV and my monitors with the other. Then she smooths a lock of hair from my forehead. You hang in there, she tells me (Foreman 22). As one can see from this quote this shows that Mia can hear what everyone is saying and that she has a chance to live if she believes in herself to live. Mia still has a chance to fight and she if she will survive to wake up. Lastly, the final reason that the author uses flashbacks is because she is an extremely talented musician. Forman uses this a aspect to strive for her to wake up and live. Mia lived in a household where rock and punk music were normal to listen to. (Forman) Mia was quite unique and different out of her family because she took a liking to classical music and was extremely skilled at playing the cello. Mia has succeeded the standards for her age in the cello and she has auditioned for Juilliard in hoping that she will be one of the best. The author use the flashback to show her growing up playing the cello and showing the audition for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay on hannibal From the middle of the 3rd century to the middle of the 2nd century BC, Carthage was engaged in a series of wars with Rome (Dorey, P 57). These wars, known as the Punic Wars, ended in the complete defeat of Carthage by Rome. The most prominent figure of the Punic wars was General Hannibal of Pheonician Carthage. During these wars, it s likely that the colonizing expeditions of the Carthaginians were supported by many emigrants from the Phoenician homeland. Hannibal was the son of the great Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca. Finally on the 15th day, after a journey of five months from Cartagena, with 20,000 infantry, 6,000 cavalry, and only a few of the original 38 elephants, Hannibal descended into Italy, having surmounted the difficulties of climate and terrain, the guerrilla tactics of inaccessible tribes, and the major difficulty of commanding a body of men diverse in race and language under conditions to which they were ill fitted (wsu.edu). Hannibal s forces were now totally inadequate to match the army of Scipio, who had rushed to the Po River to protect the recently founded Roman colonies of Placentia (modern Piacenza) and Cremona. The first action between the two armies took place on the plains west of the Ticino River, and Hannibal s Numidian cavalry prevailed. Scipio was severely wounded, and the Romans withdrew to Placentia. After manoeuvres failed to lead to a second engagement, the combined armies of Sempronius Longus and Scipio met Hannibal on the left bank of the Trebia River south of Placentia and were soundly defeated (December 218). This victory brought both Gauls and Ligurians to Hannibal s side, and his army was considerably augmented by Celtic recruits. After a severe winter (in which he contracted an eye infection), he was able to advance in the spring of 217 as far as the Arno River (wsu.edu). • 42. Risk Analysis on Investment Decision Risk Analysis on Investment Decision Net present value, internal rate of return, and profitability index are measures used to compare two mutually exclusive capital investment proposals. SAI wants to increase market share and keep up with technology, which can be done by either expanding their existing Digital Imaging market share or by entering the Wireless Communication market, (UoP, 2007). Both alternatives have areas of opportunity as well as potential risks that the company will have to consider. This paper will analyze the investment risk decisions SAI currently faces with the objectives of increasing its market share and keeping pace with technology. An analysis reveals that an expansion into the wireless communication market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capital risk results directly from money that the company invests. If assets are invested in another currency, fluctuations in currency value create currency risk. Assets that are not easily sold because the market is small and takes a long time to sell create liquidity risk. Since SAI s investment is proposed for the US, the company might also want to borrow money for this project in the US. This is especially true to mitigate longer term exchange rate risks. Borrowing money in the same country as the investment reduces the company s net exposure to currency risk (meaning the rate of exchange between a foreign currency and US currency). They would have assets located domestically and liabilities located in domestically. The closer those two numbers become, the less exposure SAI has to currency risk, (Plesko, 2007). Another way that financial risk can be mitigated is by hedging using the correlations of stocks (Capital Asset Pricing Model). This is the relationship between return and risk for portfolios. In a portfolio, two assets are considered to be hedged if they have a negative correlation whereby a loss in one results in a simultaneous gain in the other. The CAPM is the most popular financial model used to evaluate returns on portfolios, (Choudhury, 2003). Conclusion It is challenging to completely remove bias from one s analysis. • 43. The British And The American Colonies History 2.1 What Lead to the Fractured Relationship Between the British and the American Colonies Prior to the Boston Massacre? Following Britain s success in the Seven Years War and the signing of a Peace with France in 1763 Britain gained control of all territory east of the Mississippi in North America. From all of this there was a cost; the war left Britain with large military expenses debts and additional expenses of an enlarged empire. At an attempt to solve this problem, the politicians in Britain decided to exploit the colonial tax revenues in order to pay off the debts and increased expenses. Britain began to tighten control in the colonies in 1763 by stooping migration of settlers westward, this had resulted in expensive and bloody Indian wars, something that the British currently did not need. It also allowed the British to keep control of a smaller land mass and thus make it easier to keep an eye on all colonists. Colonial trade was tightened and colonial taxation was increased. Central power was increased and the power of colonial assemblies decreased. The British first brought in the Sugar Act. The Act taxed the finer things and more luxurious items such as wine, silk, and coffee. It was the first attempt from the British to exploit colonial tax revenue to aid the British need. Opposition from the colonies was immediate. The revenue Act was introduced the same year meaning the British could tax the colonies to improve the revenue of the Kingdom . The ... Kealey looks to better describe the practice of three Toronto unions from the 1860 s to the early 1890 s and their struggles for their rights and deserved wages in order to illustrate the strength these types of unions possess. This article recognizes that there are industries where unions win, and still must rely on skilled labour. Labour unions played a great role in the battle between the capitalist world and the labourers who wanted their rights to stay intact. In the Toronto moulding department, the union s claim to control was the central issue being discussed. Many attempts at strikes were mentioned resulting in major struggles for the working class. Eventually, there industry wide agreements in stove foundries, but until this the strength of the moulders depended solely on their skill and control of the work process through their union. The Iron Moulders differed from the Coopers in that they maintained a high level of workplace control into the twentieth century. This was mainly due to the strength of their organization, but also relied on the slower introduction of machinery to replace physical workers in this industry, and therefore the workers had time to perfect their craft before the machines arrived. (Kealey, 1976) The third, and probably most supportive case given by Kealey is that of the Toronto printer s industry and union, with their control of the shop floor demonstrating early union power. These printers had a very strong tradition of craft pride and identified well with their work. It was obvious that you had to be literate to be involved in printing, and therefore these printing trades were very exclusive, and to belong you needed to show a great deal of intelligence and knowledge. Because of this, printers in these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
