Bilingual Ed Essays
Bilingual Ed BILINGUAL EDUCATION IS BENEFICIAL TO STUDENTS ABILITIES TO
ASSIMILATE IN THE MAINSTREAM CULTURE
English only sink or swim? Yeah right! Instead of English Only Advocates worrying about
bilingual education cost in our school system, why not take advantage of the skills our ethnic
minorities possess to move our economy forward? They are obviously not thinking clearly, because
the benefit of bilinguals, significantly outweigh the bad. To deny our youth the opportunity for
upward mobility and skill to become more marketable in a worldwide capacity is inhumane. They
believe bilinguals threaten to sap our sense of national identity and divide us along ethnic lines.
They also fear that any government recognition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should encourage and support students to the attainment of bilingual or multilingual skills.
They should also consider that students coming from homes where two or more languages are used
will face difficulty in applying while in the school environment. The fact that so few Americans
command any other language than English is largely a result of educational failure and cultural
inadequacies. The American economy will benefit from bilingual education because historically
multilingual personnel are smarter, academic skills are sharper, and their contributions to society
are immeasurable. English is the one language that offers the biggest market, the largest pool of
talent, and the greatest probability of being able to communicate with anyone on the planet.
Bilingual education is a tool for better education that children whose primary language is not
English learn more easily. Industry and Information Technology dance to English lyrics. Students
will have no future in the Information Technology field if they cannot command English as an
effective medium of communication. Г¬Furthermore, good bilingual programs are about more than
learning a language. They should be based on a respect for diversity and multiculturalism, and
parents and community must be essential partners.Г® (Rethinking schools Vol 1. 13, #2.). Over

Essay on Benny Goodman, King of Swing
Benjamin David Goodman was born in Chicago on May 30, 1909, the ninth of twelve children
born to David and Dora Goodman, who both emigrated from Russia but met in America.
David Goodman eked out a minimal living for his family by working for a tailor in a sweatshop. To
help alleviate the family s poverty, the children were urged to work as soon as they were old enough.
For entertainment, David would take his youngest children to Douglas Park on Sundays to hear
free band concerts. It was here that he first heard of the Kehelah Jacob band. Lessons were given
for one quarter at the Kehelah Jacob synagogue. David Goodman enrolled his three youngest sons
with the hopes that one day, their music would lift them out of poverty. It was here... Show more

This led to his first professional gig in 1921 in a vaudeville show at Central Park Theater.
In 1923, at the age of 14, Benny Goodman left school to play with local bands, including Bill
Grimm s riverboat orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke. There is an interesting anecdote about
Benny s first meeting with Bix. One day, Benny received an emergency call from Grimm, asking
him to fill in for Grimm s clarinetist, who was ill. Benny arrived early in the day at the dock
where the boat on which he was to perform was moored. Benny stepped onto the bandstand and
immediately heard a shout to get off there, kid! Stop that fooling around! (Benny Goodman, 1979)
Benny turned to see a fellow about four or five years older, holding a trumpet and staring
disdainfully at Benny. That fellow, Bix Beiderbecke, did not want to hear any explanations from
this young kid in knickers. However, Bill Grimm arrived before any trouble could start and
introduced the boys. The young men hit it off and much fun and great music stemmed from that
first session together.
At that same time, Benny and his high school friends had earned the nickname,
The Wild West Side Mob , not for their behavior, but because of their free, ragged, style of jazz.
While this style made them great jam session musicians, it made it difficult for them to find work.
Hot jazz was not in demand. Nevertheless, Benny s ability to play cool, sweet jazz on demand
ensured that he found plenty of

Sinclair Lewis and Babbitt
Sinclair Lewis and Babbitt
The book under analysis herein is Sinclair Lewis Babbitt. The copy I am using in this research is
published by Harcourt, Brace World, Inc., New York, 1950. The original version was published in
1922, but there is no information in this book regarding what printing or edition it may be. This
edition encompasses thirty four chapters which span 401 pages in length as they are printed here.
One interesting note is that the novel is dedicated to Edith Wharton.
The author of the work, Sinclair Lewis, was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, and holds the
distinction of being the first American ever to be awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. Lewis was
born in the late 19th century and lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we look at specific passages from the novel, it is easy to see the author s contention as
described above. While he does temporarily decide to fight the limiting influences of a material
society that ostracizes individuality opposed to its established norms, Babbitt does revert back to
his unquestioning superficial self once he recognizes that having original thoughts and acting on
them is isolating, unprofitable and even dangerous. Babbitt is supposed to represent the ordinary
human being, the average businessman and upwardly mobile middle class America. However,
Babbitt seems more artifice than genuine human being. Like the ads that sell Americans products,
Babbitt has forged an identity that was imposed on him by the dominant forces of democratic
capitalism, Just as he was an Elk, a Booster, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, just as the
priests of the Presbyterian Church determined his every religious belief, and the senators who
controlled the Republican Part decided in little smoky rooms in Washington what he should think
about disarmament, tariffs, and Germany, so did the large national advertisers fix the surface of his
life, fix what he believed to be his individuality. These standard advertised wares...at first the signs,
then the substitutes, for joy and passion and wisdom (Lewis 95).
However, for all his satire of Babbitt, Lewis, in keeping with his own character, seems somewhat

Analysis On The Company Meridian Energy Limited Essay
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING FOR COMPANIES INTRODUCTION
The Case Study analysis will be based on the company Meridian Energy Limited(MEL). Meridian
is leading manufacturer of renewable electricity and its customers are from all over Australia and
New Zealand. The company is largest electricity generator and is the major contributor to the
government s target of renewable energy generation (Meridian, 2016). The objective of the case
study is to critically analyse the application conceptual framework of accounting and also the
accounting standards that relate to them. The case studies focus will be on the Statement of
changes in Equity. Also the focus will be on the extent of application judgement and estimates that
have been made by MEL and the issues which may arise because of these estimates.
THE NEED TO MONITOR EXTERNAL FINANCIAL REPORTING BY MEL
It is an important function of any organisation to regulate the external financial reporting. The
legislation that governs the external financial reporting is Financial reporting act 2013 (FRA) and
The companies act 1993 (Deegan Samkin, 2013). The Regulation is required to safeguard the
interests of those using the financial information but do not directly participate in the business.
These users may be both primary and secondary. The information provided by the financial
statements are used for making economic decisions by its users (NZASB, 2016a). The regulation of
external financial reporting does not only help the external users

Select One Of The Three Characteristics Of Information...
1.Select one of the three characteristics of information security (CIA) and explain its importance as
related to the development of policy, education, OR technology.
Confidentiality is one of the three characteristics of the C.I.A. model. It establishes those with
sufficient privileges and the need to access the information. Confidentiality is most related to
information privacy. It is extremely important to protect the information of employees, customers,
or patients. No matter what type of organization it is it will disclose confidential information. That
being said, all confidential information is vulnerable to accidental exposure or an intentional hack.
If an unauthorized individual or system views the information, confidentiality is breached.
Confidentiality contains several measures that are applied to protect the confidentiality of
information. These measures include information classification, sure document and data storage,
application of general security policies, education of information custodians and end users.
Confidentiality must be met in the storage, processing, and transmission of data in an organization.
For example, we are going to look at a major recent data breach. On March 8, 2017, the US
department of homeland security sent Equifax and notice to patch a vulnerability in versions of the
Apache Struts software. On March 9, Equifax dispersed the information to applicable personnel.
Although told to apply the patch, Equifax security team did not find

Persuasive Letter Against Animal Cloning
Dear mr. Paul Ryan the speaker of the white house, I ve seen your voting records and your
campaigns from the past years and the current ones and i ve seen that you re helping people with
fundraisers so I m pretty sure that you ll agree with me with not starting to clone and never start
it. I believe it is the most unacceptable idea of how it will affect the people in a really bad way.
Also, I believe that the taxpayer can benefit something else like actually help the people who need
the money. I read an article about animals cloningbefore, and I was surprised how much money it
costs someone to clone, like they re not even sure if the cloned pet will be exactly like the real
one, And I don t believe it s normal because of course they ll add hormones and genes that ll

Descriptive Essay About My Journey
My journey the day I left my home country in search of a better life was not as pleasurable or
exciting as I expected. Although it was not a long flight, the accumulation of unexpected
vicissitudes during the trip made my dream of traveling an absolute nightmare. Not only my
sadness to be leaving my family behind, the uncertainty to fly alone and for the first time, or my
inexperience with the procedures at the airport contributed to this calamity, but even my neighbor
on the planeadded his bit of sand in the affair. All this situation was such traumatic to me that I even
considered never daring to fly again.
The nightmare began long before I even set foot on the plane. To start, I was traveling from the
international airport of Havana, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This event caused an enormous fuss at the airport, and I could feel the heat of my red face boiling
of shame for being the center of attention at that moment. Once the clutter of the corrupt employee
quieted down, I went to check my luggage. Although the line was not so long, it took an eternity for
me to receive assistance, since the only two clerks available at the time for that function had a
lively talk and did not appear to be in any hurry to attend the line of impatient travelers. Finally,
my turn came! The young woman took my documentation with such slow movements that her
arms gave the impression of having five pound weights attached to each hand, and then she
asked me to put my luggage on a digital scale to my side. I did not have much in my suitcase,
only clothes for a week, a couple of family photos, and a small, fluffy, pink bag with my makeup,
body lotions, and my favorite perfume that smelled like the ocean in Hawaii impregnated with the
exotic fragrance of the Plumerias. Since everything was in order with the weight, they tagged my
luggage and put it on the baggage belt while my eyes followed it until it disappeared behind the
curtains.
Throughout the check in process, I tried to show myself steady and calm; I did not want my
relatives there to perceive the pain and sadness reflected in my face for leaving them behind. When

The Myers Briggs Personality Assessment Tool
The Myers Briggs Personality Assessment Tool Background The Myers Briggs Type
IndicatorВ® (MBTIВ®) tool has an extensive and prestigious history, which leads to its
tremendous success today as the world s most commonly used and recognized personality tool.
Katherine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, developed the MBTI tool in the
1940 s. The inspiration to start researching personality type theory began when Katherine first met
the future husband of Isabel, Clarence Myers. Further inspiration came from Carl G. Jung, a
renowned Swiss psychiatrist, whose theory of psychological types proposed that people are
inherently different in terms of who they perceive the world and take in information as a basis for
their decisions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MBTIВ® scores indicate how specific preferences are reported in the questionnaire. The test does
not measure skills or ability but is used as instrument to help understand a person better.
Characteristics of the MBTIВ® include: Managing staff: What are an individual s likely strengths?
For which role is this person best suited? Guiding careers: What kinds of jobs or positions will an
individual find most fulfilling? Improving interpersonal relationship: How can a person best relate
to and communicate with other personality types for maximum understanding? Developing
education and training: What kind of teaching methods should be used to ensure all personality
types profit from the presented information? Coaching and advising people: What can be done to
help individuals understand themselves better and identify their strengths and weaknesses?
Businesses often use this test to identify differences between individuals. These differences in turn,
are the source of misunderstanding, which then leads to miscommunication. There is no doubt that
MBTIВ® is successful as a product, however, Dr. Dean Burnett of the Institute of Psychological
Medicine and Clinical Neuroscience at Cardiff University is critical of the test. He says the test
relies on poor scientific foundations and suspects the test is a self fulfilling phenomenon the more
people take it, the

Abstract
This experiment was performed to determine the melting point ranges of standard substances, urea
cinnamic acid mixtures, and unknown substances. The melting point ranges were measured by
observing the temperatures in which the substances began and completed liquefying in the Stuart
SMP10 Melting Point Apparatus. The melting points ranges of pure naphthalene, urea, cinnamic
acid, sulfanilamide, 4 toluic acid, and anthracene were 82 82, 132 133, 134 135, 164 166,183
184, and 216 219В°C. Melting points were obtained for urea cinnamic acid mixtures. The melting
point ranges of 1:4. 1:1, and 4:1 mixtures of urea cinnamic acid by mass were 103 113, 103 104,
and 107 127В°C respectively. Finally, the melting point ranges for unknown substance A were
around 134 136В°C and the ranges for unknown substance B were around 135 139В°C. Based on
the melting points, the unknown substances were identified as urea and cinnamic acid. Overall, the
results of the experiments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Civilians Vs California
Farmers vs Civilians Envision yourself, about to complete a straightforward, everyday thing such
as washing the dishes, suddenly to your surprise there is no water coming out of the faucet. Well
for the civilians of East Porterville this is their reality. California has always had very lenient and
ineffective groundwater regulations. Today, this has become a major issue, especially with
California s severe drought. The regulation of the aquifer is a necessity because cleanliness is a
basic human right and by not regulating the groundwater and leaving civilians with no working
water, that right is taken away. The right to bathe, wash your hands, and have a working toilet is
simply no more. Furthermore there are scientific statements, proving that excessively pumping
groundwater will lower the water levels, which will likely lead to the land level sinking as well....

With no working water many have substituted, showers for Bird Baths . That includes deciding
whether to use precious water hauled from the local fire stations for the bird baths Mrs Gallegos
says everyone now has instead of showers, or flushing the toilet (Source 2). Using the toilet is
also a everyday dilemma some have resorted to doing their business outside. Sometimes, she
says, nodding towards her youngest child, when she needs to go, I just take her outside (Source
2). Many have not taken showers in months, because of the lack of water. For Angelica Gallegos,
the worst part has been going without a shower for five months (Source 2). The lack of water
has also had a strain on people s pockets, some dive out of town to take proper showers. When it
first went dry, we used to drive to my daughter s house in Visalia about 45 minutes away to have a

Turbulent Flow Trial in Pipe Flow Experiment
For experiment 100 (pipe flow) there were some operational errors that took place during the lab
period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was
there for the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer
as they were both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was
instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer
reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip
from its cap and fall to the table. While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near
the cross trainer with a stopwatch trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling
the safety officer reached out to catch it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table.
Review attached accident report in the appendix for further detail of the accident.
During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density
and viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the
pipe flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty
trials for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. These trial
numbers were short of our goal of finishing all of the trials for both turbulent laminar for that day

Japanese Interpersonal Relationships
The first topic is about a worker s relation towards his or her workmates with consideration of the
working culture and environment. There are three principal factors which affects interpersonal
relationship at workplace, I think; tendency of finding a value in working hard, the hidden but strict
rule of having worship for the boss, and the subjection of women. I will take up each factor.
First of all, I ll describe the effect of Japanese tendency of finding value in working hard. One of
the reason is that Japanese are concerned about how they are perceived by the others. I don t know
the absolute reason but Japanese tend to be a group oriented. In order not to disrupt the atmosphere
at workplace, they pay much attention for their behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Here in Japan from right after the war to recent days, since the family style that the man work
outside and earn money, and the woman keep their house and educate children had been common,
some people still believed that men are good at working and women are not. That causes that
men s forcing women to do indirect and supportive work, such as drawing tea, taking a copy or
being a acceptance. There are two extreme examples. First, in a meeting on business, a company
was suggesting idea to the partner company. At first, a woman of the suggesting company spoke,
but the members of partner company didn t hear anything as if to say that suggestion by the
woman was indifferent. However, the speaker changed from the woman to another man of the
suggesting company, the listeners started to hear keenly with nodding even though he said
completely the same thing as her. The other example is the complaint. A man had a complaint
with a product, so went to a shop. The shop respond to the problem by appearing a responsible
woman at the shop. However, the man didn t know she took in charge of the shop and said the
responsible person must appear! . He took it for granted that the responsible person was a man. As

Meridith s Dream Short Story
Meridith s Dream
I was in an ethereal world, where everything and everyone was light and afloat. A place where
responsibilities and duties were meaningless, because we had all the time in the world to just
float and be free. The weightlessness feeling washed over me like waves over the seashore. I was
immersed in a feeling of mild tranquility. It s amazing how the world can be renewed just by getting
rid of gravity. By defying it. I looked around. It looked fairly ordinary, it was a small street in this
small town. It could have been any other day, any other sunset at 5:00 pm. But at the same time,
it looked extraordinary. The people hovered above the ground, some street signs and cars were
suspended in air too. As a girl was walking her dog, they both strolled on the air as if it were like
the flat grey pavement laying on the ground below. I smiled and sighed, for this was a new
world. A new beginning for someplace that was once the most boring town on the Earth. All of
the sudden, darkness quickly flashed across my field of vision, and I woke up, in my bed. I
looked around. My bed laid on the floor, and so did my lamp and my nightstand next to me.
Everything was in it s proper place. How disappointing. I exhaled, a small little sigh escaping
from my mouth. It was just a dream of course, and it was one I wish I hadn t woken up from.
Crawling out of my bed, I stood to look up at my clock, where it showed it was 9:30. I had slept
for a full 8 hours, but I couldn t shake the feeling of the draining tiredness away. Maybe I should
rest a little more, I thought to myself at first. But at that moment, I had remembered something. It
was my experiment! I suddenly broke out into a smile as I realized what I could do. Today, I
didn t have any work to do, so that meant I could start my experiment. This experiment could get
me one step closer to my dream of defying gravity. In a sudden burst of motivation and excitement,
I ran from my bedroom and sailed down the stairs to my lab, where my newest invention awaited.
After a few months of extensive research, finding materials and tinkering around with things, I had
finally built my anti gravity chamber. It was a long, cylinder shaped tube, with an opening that

Thus investment is everything that remains of production after consumption, government spending,
and exports are subtracted. I is divided into non residential investment (such as factories) and
residential investment (new houses). Net investment deducts depreciation from gross investment.
It is the value of the net increase in the capital stock per year. Investment, as production over a
period of time ( per year ), is not capital. The time dimension of investment makes it a flow. By
contrast, capital is a stock, that is, an accumulation measurable at a point in time (say December
31st). Investment is often modeled as a function of Income and Interest rates, given by the relation I
= f(Y, r). An increase in income encourages higher investment, whereas a higher interest rate may
discourage investment as it becomes more costly to borrow money. Even if a firm chooses to use
its own funds in an investment, the interest rate represents an opportunity cost of investing those
funds rather than loaning them out for interest. Finance Approach In finance, investment = cost of
capital, like buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets
or capital markets, or in fairly liquid real assets, such as gold, real

Whist Muscle Analysis
As a trainer, I have found that clients seeking to improve their flexibility complain about tight
hamstrings more than any other muscle group. Time and time again, clients are consistently
surprised to find that hamstring flexibility can be improved without stretching at all.
Before I can talk about flexibility, we need to define what a tight muscle really is. A very big
flexibility misconception is that muscles need to be physically lengthened and the best way to
lengthen muscles is through stretching. This is simply not true! Muscles already have all the length
they need and attempting to change that length via intense stretching is liable to cause ligament
damage rather than actually increase the range of motion.
Riddle me this: If muscles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Active ROM is the range of motion a person can actively control their hamstring through (think
trying to touch your toes). Passive ROM is the range of motion a hamstring can be moved by an
outside force (like when a partner stretches you out). To test your active ROM, lie on your back
and lift one leg up as high as you can without bending the knee. To test your passive ROM,
perform the same test but have a partner move your leg up and back as far as she can.
Differences of more than an inch or two between active ROM and passive ROM are a very
undesirable trait and come along with a high risk of injury. This essentially means that your brain
is allotting more range of motion than it can actively control. A lack of motor control is an injury
risk; if you were forced into a position in which you had no muscular control (falling for example)
an injury is likely to occur. In my experience, this is most common in females.
If you are in this group, an easy fix is proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching. It
is a mouthful, but it is not as difficult as it sounds. This basically is stretching interspersed with
muscular contractions. Here is how to do

Maya today is the rapid decline of the society depicted by the last stela, an upright stone slab or
column, located around 869 A.D. at Tikal and 909 A.D. in the Mayan World about 1000 years
before Columbus reached the island of El Salvador in 1492. While there is ... Show more content on

The Long Count calendar was calibrated by means to record major events such as those described
from glyphs on stelae. Starting around the 1960 s archaeologists and researchers turn their focus to
the hieroglyphs left behind by the Maya. Due to the increase of study of the hieroglyphs,
researchers hit a turning point in what they mistakenly knew about the Maya. Like J. Eric
Thompson, Carnegie Institution of Washington archaeologist, many early explorers would have
thought that the Mayan society was very peaceful. This declaration was mistaken since at the time
there was little to no understanding of the Mayan hieroglyphs. Today, with the understanding of
most Mayan writing, archaeologists have concluded that the Maya were warrior like people with a
very active community who took place in battles, sacrificial ceremonies, and even

Computer Programming Student Analysis
In my years spent in high school, my favorite class has been computer programming. I took the
class as a sophomore without any previous coding experience. Starting out, I struggled with the
basic concepts and fell behind on projects. I relied heavily on help from my teacher and my
friends, and I even considered dropping the class. Faced with the decision at the semester,
however, I decided to keep trying. As the second semester progressed, I gained greater
understanding of the basics of coding. I became the person that others could receive help from
rather than the one asking for help. By the final quarter of the school year, I was able to code with
speed and accuracy. I was fortunate to win the ComputerProgramming Student of the Year award...

Differences Between Minority And Minority Groups
Abstract
This study explores the relationships between majority and minority groups and their awareness of
blatant and subtle prejudice, by priming either common or dual identity. It was hypothesized that
due to their marginalization, minority groups will be more aware of both subtle and blatant
prejudice and that those primed with dual identity will show a similar heightened awareness. The
results demonstrated that majority groups were more aware of both types of prejudice,
contradicting many previous results in this area. This study was conducted on an Australian
population, making it unique, and possibly explaining the contrary results. However, it has also
been suggested that the social stigma surrounding racism in our society has increased the awareness
by majority groups, as they strive to be politically correct and avoid judgment by their peers.
Another worthy discussion point is the internalization of prejudice by minority groups living in a
majority dominated society.
How Common and Dual Identity Can Influence Majority and Minority Awareness of Subtle and
Blatant Prejudice
In modern society, prejudiced ideas and values are present amongst majority dominated societies
(Banaji Devos, 2005). Minority groups, and individuals with a heightened sense of cultural
affiliation to their ethnicity, have been shown to be more aware of subtle prejudice than majority
groups (Operario Fiske, 2001). Previous research in the area of racial prejudice has also

Negligence And Its Impact On Society
Negligence is a tort that is a major focus point in how people and organizations interact with each
other. How the tort of negligence developed is critical for understanding who is held accountable
when a civil wrong has occurred. Negligence focuses on three basic elements: a duty of care, a
breach of said duty, and causation of damage. The goal of this assessment is to examine the
development of these three elements of negligencetort lawin England, and hopefully explain its
significance in how it affects society. First, a duty of care must be established for a legitimate
negligence claim. The concept of a duty of care is that it demonstrates the defendant (the one
wrongdoer) had some sort of responsibility to take care of the claimant (the wronged party who is
bringing forth the claim). In English law, the landmark case that conceived the idea of
establishing a duty of care was Donoghue v Stevenson (1932 UKHL 100), a case involving a
woman who drank a bottle of ginger beer and found a dead snail in the bottle, thus bringing suit
against the manufacturer. The House of Lords ruled in the claimant s favor, stating the
manufacturer does owe a duty of care to the consumer. Arguably the most integral part of the ruling
in Donoghue is where Lord Atkin states:
You must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can reasonably foresee
would be likely to injure your neighbor. Who, then, in law is my neighbor? The answer seems to
be persons who are so closely and

The Internet has transformed the ways of communicating and learning ways of the prior years.
Electronic mail, also known as ?email,? has existed ever since the Internet was invented, to send
messages from one computer to another. One remarkable invention was the Project Gutenberg of
1971 which is about placing books and documents in a public domain that can be accessed
electronically for free. The Internet is a channel for interaction and collaboration of different

In school, the basic things haven?t changed a lot but due to advanced technology, there have been
many additional resources a student can use. Today, most of the students rely more on the Internet
than on books. However, books are more reliable than the other information found on the Internet.
With just one snap, the Internet gives students variety of information to be analyzed and to have a
better understanding of a certain topic. The way of learning today became more challenging and
appropriate for more advanced minds of the young generations. The Internet has contributed to the
growth of today?s society because it allows students to have new learning resources that are more
interesting and give students the opportunity to gain from others? knowledge and experiences.
Through its development, the Internet provides different benefits that will help the students and
children with their academic standings if it is used correctly at home and in school. According to
the U.S Department of Education, statistics shows that ninety three percent of the schools in the
United States have access to the Internet but the ratio of the students to computers was 5.3 to 1.
Children who are fortunate to have easy access to the Internet often take the opportunity to learn for

Marketing in the Banking Industry
Marketing in the Banking industry
Introduction:
In many ways, the banking industry has functioned more as a private industry offering something
of a public utility. Through this unique role, the industry has dramatically expanded its service and
product offerings over the last several decades. However, even as the industry has evolved, its
marketing strategies have remained somewhat static. The assumption for many in the banking
industry not unlike a public utility is that their services are needed by the public. This, in and of
itself, is a view that has dissuaded many from achieving the type of marketing presence from which
they might otherwise benefit. However, this approach is shifting significantly today as banks
struggle to compete with one another and with their own negative reputations. As the discussion
here will show, more effective marketing is the key to driving new success in an industry in need
of a recovery.
Problem Statement:
Over the last decade, a string of corporate collapses has contributed to a decided downslide in the
reputation of the global banking industry. Scandal, embezzlement and dishonesty marked the
downfall of a number of prominent investment banking firms, helping to compound a sense for
many in the public that bank s are driven by greed and are not to be trusted. This denotes a clear
problem for the banking industry on the whole, which relies on the public s trust and loyalty to
court and maintain customers. Therefore, a great

Is Scout An Important Character In To Kill A Mockingbird
Why is Scout Such an Important Character
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the most recognizable books of all time. Ever since it s July 1960
release date it has been hailed for its genius writing, relatable characters, and narration. The novel is
told through the eyes of Scout, a young girl living in the fictional Alabama town of Maycomb, and
how she develops during an important time in her childhood. Scout s character will affect the story
in many different ways. As the only narrator, all of what you know of Maycomb and its inhabitants
is through her eyes. Her childlike demeanor, strong southern accent, and personality add to the book
s charm and memorability. You will get to see her evolve as a person throughout the entire story.
Scout is not only the most memorable, but the most important.
In To Kill a Mockingbirdthe primary narrator of the story is Scout. All the characters, setting, and
plot are introduced by Scout. You will come to know these characters through her. Why is Scout as
the narrator so important? Simple, you are able to see Scout growing up facing these challenges
internally, instead of externally. Through this story, you understand her emotions and see her
learning about the world. This also demonstrates a major conflict she and her family face. She
ultimately comes to her own conclusions. We have all been kids once, so we can relate to Scout
and her dilemma. During the confrontation with Bob Ewell at the ending of the book, if Jem were

Marxism Crime Deviance
Crime and Deviance This essay will evaluate the Marxist theory that the ruling class in society
decides the law and enforces it, to reflect their own interests. Marxism is a political and social
system based on the ideas of Karl Marx (1818 83). Marxist criminology theories began in the
1970 s. According to Marxists, society is controlled by the ruling capitalist class. They believe
that in a capitalist society, a small group of wealthy people (the bourgeoisie), own the means of
production, such as; factories, businesses, land, etc and that they exploit the working class people
(the proletariat), so that they can enjoy a huge profit and personal gain, either legally or illegally.
Marxists believe that the ruling class therefore decide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their theories, Marxists say that certain types of crime are more likely to be punished
compared to others. Street crimes (brawls, binge drinking, theft, muggings, social unrest and
disorder) are more likely to be pursued than white collar crime (fraud, tax evasion, insider
training and even gambling and prostitution). This is because the capitalist governments who
have run the country are sympathetic to those who are of the same belief and class, but have
just got carried away with their search for wealth. In this society of greed, the working class
have to turn to crime just to stay alive and to obtain the materialistic goods or lifestyle, which is
typical to a capitalistic state, and that general standard of living and attitude to life, is enforced on
them, when living in this type of society. Money and personal gain, and the every man for
himself attitude is what life is like in an unfair, and socially unequal way of life under a capitalist
government. In another example, in their search for high profits, employers may not enforce health
and safety regulations. For example, low paid, sometimes illegal immigrant workers have been
exploited in this manner in recent times, such as the Morecambe Bay incident in ... Marxists would

Analysis of Caius Cassius Character
Analysis of Caius Cassius Character
Caius Cassius plays one of the most important roles in William Shakespeare s play, Julius Caesar ,
which is centred round the assassination of the Roman dictator. The driving force behind the
conspiracy is Cassius though there are others who are unhappy with the state of affairs under the
prevailing system. Yet, they do not take an active part in the design to get rid of powerful Caesar.
So, it is not incorrect to state that the chief protagonist of the assassination plot is no one but Caius
Cassius.
Let me have men about me that are fat;
Sleek headed men, and such as sleep o nights:
Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look;

says, Speak, strike, redress! Am I entreated
To speak and strike? O Rome, I make thee promise,
If the redress will follow, thou receivest
Thy full petition at the hand of Brutus! Act 2.ii.
Though the method employed to convert Brutus is quite unprincipled, it shows, no doubt, the skill
of a practical man to achieve his objective by hook or by crook. Hence, it can be counted as a plus
point in his character. Brutus patriotism and self love impede him from seeing the deep chasm to
which he is pushed by artful manipulation.
Unlike Brutus, Cassius is a far sighted man. He is aware of the capability of Antony and his solid
friendship with Caesar. An important item in his plan is to get rid of Mark Antonyas well, along
with Caesar since he concludes that he is a potential danger to their cause. But this is over ruled by
Brutus on the premise that it will foul their good intention. Brutus reaction to the suggestion is:
Let s be sacrificers, but not butchers, Caius. Act 2 Scene i.
What takes place later fully justifies the stand taken by Cassius with regard to Antony. If Brutus
agreed with Cassius, the conspiracy would have been a complete success.
Brutus permits Antony to make a funeral oration at Caesar s burial. Again Cassius objects to
Antony being allowed to speak for he sees it

Research Motivation
In broad daylight during a hot day in 1982, barefooted and shirtless pirates paddling wooden
canoes, attack an unarmed U.S. commercial ship delivering humanitarian relief in the seaport of
Freetown, Sierra Leone. The shirtless pirates are armed as they swing their grappling hooks and

cigarettes to bribe local African officials for port services. As customary, the U.S. vessel has no
weapons, except a flare gun, which jams when fired at the roving pirates. The pirates are finally
repealed by opposing shoeless and bare chested local natives with poison arrows. A naГЇve 20 year

Computational Scale Out Workloads Applications
Abstract Scale out workloads are applications that are typically executed in a cloud environment
and exhibit high level of request level parallelism. Such workloads benefit from processor
organizations with very high core count since multiple requests can be serviced simultaneously
by threads running on these cores. The characteristics of these workloads indicate that they have
high instruction footprints exceeding the capacities of private caches, operate on large datasets
with limited reuse and have minimal coherence activity due to lesser data sharing. The
characteristics also indicate that the active instruction window can be captured by a Last Level
Cache (LLC) size of 8MB. New processor organizations have been discussed in literature that
tailors the interconnection among cores to match the communication pattern arising out of the
characteristics of scale out workloads. The focus of the current work is to take the approach of
separating a core and LLC bank from a single tile as specified in literature and design a different
interconnection topology for cores and LLC banks to reduce the latency of accessing the LLC to
improve performance. In the current work, four cores and a LLC bank are designed to connect to a
routerforming a star topology and the routers ( 4) are designed to form a 2D flattened butterfly
topology. The current design has been targeted at 8 cores and has been implemented using the

Mr. Williams And The Music Of Music And Film
John Williams once said so much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by
ourselves, so it s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people s memories and
linger it did. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully
understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the
progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his
accomplishments of music and film.
In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant
experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an
agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S. (2005)). The musician
generally improvised playing mostly a variety of popular romantic and melodramatic scores of the
late nineteenth century (such as William Tell Overture, Ride of the Valkyrie, Les Preludes, etc.) as
long as it accompanied the action/scene or enhanced the mood (for dramatic effect). ( From Scene
to Shining Screen: A Short History of Film Music . para. 1 2. (n.d.)). As film grew in popularity and
length, so did the musical accompaniment adding instruments to the ensemble until even some
theaters were housing full orchestras. By the end of the silent era, the industry had completely
shifted from the all purpose improve music of the solo pianist, to exact musical scores written

whether or not it can be developed, whether or not it can be a better predictor of work performance

Within the emotional intelligence paradigm there exists several theories that attempt to better
understand and explain the abilities, skills, and traits associated with emotional and social
intelligence. Researchers have been able to demonstrate the discriminant validity of trait based
approaches to emotional intelligence. Recent research shows that emotional intelligence is a unique
construct that accounts for unique variance when IQ and personality are controlled. Emotional
intelligence has not been around for very long, and evidence continues to develop that shows how
EI represents many traits and abilities that are not fully accounted for by traditional measures of
personality and cognitive intelligence. The traditional intelligence field has not been threatened or
discredited for having several theories. Our knowledge and practical

A Summary On The Workplace Of The United States
In Pedigree, Lauren A. Rivera outlines the manner by which the elite are able to reproduce their
resources and monopolize access to the most prestigious and highest paying jobs in the United
States. Rivera s main argument is that methods by which employers of elite firms characterize
credentials and evaluate qualification for top jobs provides more opportunities for candidates who
come from socioeconomically advantaged backgrounds, while at the same time limiting
opportunities for less privileged applicants. She goes on to highlight how every stage of the
evaluative process, from initial submission of rГ©sumГ©s for evaluation to final selections made
by committees, is systematically correlated with parental income and education. This exclusion of
talented, qualified applicants from less advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds creates a cap for
students in terms of the prestige of jobs and income levels that they can attain. In the chapter
summaries below, I will outline Rivera s arguments regarding elitereproduction and the
methodology by which this process occurs at each phase of the hiring process. Chapter 1: Entering
the Elite
Rivera begins her argument by focusing on the fundamental stepping stone to competing for elite
jobs education. She draws on the literature, and specifically Bourdieu s cultural capital theory, to
claim that parents with advanced educations and affluent economic positions are able to pass on
essential economic, cultural, and social capital that

Crime Rates in America

Crime Rates In America
In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This
perspective is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies
heavily on statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern
society. This data is collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports.
These reports were implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. In
addition these reports record criminal activity, the type of crimes committed, the locations of
criminal trends, the volume of crimes committed, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
These reports are based only on the crimes that have been reported by victims or discovered by
police. In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which
resulted in arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been
reported, have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute
due to lack of evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still
contribute to our society s criminality.
Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white
collar crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape,
Robbery, Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white
collar crimes such as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of
product liabilities, etc. are not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend
to focus more on street crime as apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to
believe contrary to reality. When researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming
disparity which shows that white collar crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form
of financial cost, property lose or damage, and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011).
In researching the topic of crime rates in America, I have learned that crime rates relate to

Helping Father Kleinsorge s Hiroshima
Helping. Caring. Assisting. These are way of how people got through the bombing on
Hiroshima. By helping others people are able to create a hopeful future. In Hiroshima, Father
Kleinsorge shows us that by helping others, you are able to make a positive difference in the
lives of others. Father Kleinsorge is able to demonstrate this by helping the people in the park.
He goes out of his way to fetch water for the wounded (Hersey 51). He traveled through the woods
so that they are not thirsty anymore. Father Kleinsorge also tries to care for the children that are

Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay Lab Report
In order to test the hypothesis that the WRKY75 transcription factor directly regulates FLS2
expression, electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), the CRISPR/Cas9 and microarray
techniques can be implemented. Firstly, an EMSA will be conducted to determine whether
WKRY75 is a transcriptional factor that regulates and binds to pFLS2. The DNAprobe that will be
used is the pFLS2 double stranded DNA sequence, which contains the regulatory element.
WRKY75 will be determined as a binding proteinif we observe band shift, as electrophoresis
separates molecules based on charge and size; therefore, DNA attached to a protein will take longer
to migrate through the gel. If WRKY75 is determined to be a transcriptional factor of pFLS2, we
can implement the CRISPR/Cas9 technique.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This specific DNA sequence can be fed into the Cas9 system, which will proceed to cut out this
sequence from the WRKY gene. Furthermore, this will mutate the endogenous locus by knocking
out the WRKY75 sequence, and the WRKY75 transcriptional factor will not be made. The
control treatment will simply be the unaltered WRKY75 nucleotide sequence. To test how this
affects FLS2 gene expression, we can run a microarray experiment. We can compare a normal
plant cell with an unaltered WRKY gene to the mutated cell with WRKY75 knocked out by
fluorescently labelling them with different colors; therefore, level of FLS2 expression will be
observed by the fluorescence color produced. If the mutated cell shows no expression of FLS2, it
suggests that the WRKY75 transcription factor directly regulates FLS2 expression. However, if
we still observe FLS2 expression in the mutated cell, we can infer that the WRKY75 transcriptional
factor does not directly regulate FLS2 expression, and may serve an indirect regulatory

In this article, Salvador Maldonado Aranda writes about drug trafficking in response to Mexicos

political policies played a part in assisting drug traffickers to thrive in their jobs. He notes that the

However, Mexico is still fighting drug trafficking internally although they hardly have any
resources to properly do this. Chabat comments that drug trafficking is so popular do to the
demand for the drugs in other countries. In the mid 1900 s the Mexican government made way in
cracking down on illegal drugs. They created punishments for the traffickers and signed
agreements to help prohibit drug trafficking in general. Still, drug trafficking in Mexico seems to
be present and a large problem due to the violence it creates.
Jorge Chabat has been a professor of International Studies in Mexico City at the Center for
Research and Teaching on Economics since 1983. He is also an expert not only on national
security but drug trafficking as well. Since Chabat is located in Mexico City and has for a number
of years, this makes him a knowledgeable and credible source regarding problems such as drug

Lascia Ch Io Pianga Analysis Essay
The analysis of the aria Lascia ch io pianga by Haendel according to the thorough bass method,
shows us how the composer refer in this piece to the typical compositional procedures of
baroque music. The aria starts with a pedal (frame, according to Joel Lester s terminology)
followed by a cadence harmonized according the regle de l octave both in ascending and
descending motion (MM. 5 8). The second episode starting at M. 8 consists of a sequence, precisely
a modified sequence, in which the subsequent is slightly modified at the end introducing a new
harmonyon the second beat of M. 12 that leads to a final cadence with a modulation to the original
key. The regle is always working also in the sequence, it is just applied... Show more content on

In Lascia ch io pianga is possible to understand all the harmonies as fifths and sevenths but the
bass line motion not always moves naturally by fifths and fourths. In many cases, through the use
of the double emploi, is has been possible to correct some irregular motions into fifth motion, but
still for some of them it hasn t been possible. Probably the most evident example is the motion by
second occurring between MM. 6 and 7, and between MM. 11 and 12. The fundamental bass
analysis bring into play notes that are supposed, that are not in the score but affect the music as the
roots of a tree feed the last leaf on the highest branch. In this case, we can see how the sense of
motion that we perceive listening to this aria is perfectly explained and justified by the succession
of seventh chord and fifth chord, as the epitome of the arsi tesi feeling in music.
Even in the first two measures, that look really simple in the thorough bass analysis, we can still
discover something that makes this beginning not so obvious. In the first measure the F is
transformed into D with a seventh chord on top, and the accumulation of this seventh with the next
one in the second measure create a sense of instability and a need to resolve. In the next measures
this tension will be released through a succession of 5 chord with two final combinations 7 5 to

Improving Affordability Through Curbing Cost Increases
institutions rarely think of approaches toward this goal. According to the report published by
Lumina Foundation, Putting Colleges on Notice: Crafting Smarter Strategies to Improve
Affordability through Curbing Cost Increases, college leaders are either failing to pay attention,
failing to prioritize, or failing to act on the affordability issue (Fryar and Carlson, 2014, p.3).
Current efforts to improve affordability are halted by the insufficient attention and the lack of
knowledge, evidence, and thoughtful strategy regarding the role of institutional leaders (p.3). In a
2008 survey, the Iron Triangle: College Presidents Talk About Costs, Access and Quality, a report

Institutional leaders, as the entrepreneur for organization culture and value, their perception of the
conflict between cost and quality, and the quality first mindset will shape the organization culture
and influence institution s efforts toward affordability.
As discussed by Fryar (2014), if leaders perceive efforts to improve affordability as threats to the
quality of their institution, efforts toward promoting affordability will be halted. Furthermore,
prioritizing quality let college leaders seek for more stable and dependable financial sources.
Tuition and fees, as one of the controllable and dependable source, will be the first choice for
institution to maintain quality and avoid risk (Fryar, 2014). The dominant ideology that links price
with quality in higher education institutions, or in other words, quality is maintained on the base of
accumulation of tangible resources and the higher the price is, the better the education will be, is
the root problem for the ineffective institutional affordability movements.
Reducing Student Debt Burden Higher debt burden for students may increase their probability to
default on the loans, and high cohort default rates can negatively reflect on institution quality;

Instead of English Only Advocates worrying about bilingual education cost in our school system, why not take advantage of the skills our ethnic minorities possess to move our economy forward? They are obviously not thinking clearly, because the benefit of bilinguals, significantly outweigh the bad. To deny our youth the opportunity for upward mobility and skill to become more marketable in a worldwide capacity is inhumane. They believe bilinguals threaten to sap our sense of national identity and divide us along ethnic lines. They also fear that any government recognition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They should encourage and support students to the attainment of bilingual or multilingual skills. They should also consider that students coming from homes where two or more languages are used will face difficulty in applying while in the school environment. The fact that so few Americans command any other language than English is largely a result of educational failure and cultural inadequacies. The American economy will benefit from bilingual education because historically multilingual personnel are smarter, academic skills are sharper, and their contributions to society are immeasurable. English is the one language that offers the biggest market, the largest pool of talent, and the greatest probability of being able to communicate with anyone on the planet. Bilingual education is a tool for better education that children whose primary language is not English learn more easily. Industry and Information Technology dance to English lyrics. Students will have no future in the Information Technology field if they cannot command English as an effective medium of communication. • 3. Essay on Benny Goodman, King of Swing Benjamin David Goodman was born in Chicago on May 30, 1909, the ninth of twelve children born to David and Dora Goodman, who both emigrated from Russia but met in America. David Goodman eked out a minimal living for his family by working for a tailor in a sweatshop. To help alleviate the family s poverty, the children were urged to work as soon as they were old enough. For entertainment, David would take his youngest children to Douglas Park on Sundays to hear free band concerts. It was here that he first heard of the Kehelah Jacob band. Lessons were given for one quarter at the Kehelah Jacob synagogue. David Goodman enrolled his three youngest sons with the hopes that one day, their music would lift them out of poverty. It was here... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This led to his first professional gig in 1921 in a vaudeville show at Central Park Theater. In 1923, at the age of 14, Benny Goodman left school to play with local bands, including Bill Grimm s riverboat orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke. There is an interesting anecdote about Benny s first meeting with Bix. One day, Benny received an emergency call from Grimm, asking him to fill in for Grimm s clarinetist, who was ill. Benny arrived early in the day at the dock where the boat on which he was to perform was moored. Benny stepped onto the bandstand and immediately heard a shout to get off there, kid! Stop that fooling around! (Benny Goodman, 1979) Benny turned to see a fellow about four or five years older, holding a trumpet and staring disdainfully at Benny. That fellow, Bix Beiderbecke, did not want to hear any explanations from this young kid in knickers. However, Bill Grimm arrived before any trouble could start and introduced the boys. The young men hit it off and much fun and great music stemmed from that first session together. At that same time, Benny and his high school friends had earned the nickname, The Wild West Side Mob , not for their behavior, but because of their free, ragged, style of jazz. While this style made them great jam session musicians, it made it difficult for them to find work. Hot jazz was not in demand. Nevertheless, Benny s ability to play cool, sweet jazz on demand ensured that he found plenty of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The original version was published in 1922, but there is no information in this book regarding what printing or edition it may be. If we look at specific passages from the novel, it is easy to see the author s contention as described above. While he does temporarily decide to fight the limiting influences of a material society that ostracizes individuality opposed to its established norms, Babbitt does revert back to his unquestioning superficial self once he recognizes that having original thoughts and acting on them is isolating, unprofitable and even dangerous. Babbitt is supposed to represent the ordinary human being, the average businessman and upwardly mobile middle class America. However, Babbitt seems more artifice than genuine human being. Like the ads that sell Americans products, Babbitt has forged an identity that was imposed on him by the dominant forces of democratic capitalism, Just as he was an Elk, a Booster, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, just as the priests of the Presbyterian Church determined his every religious belief, and the senators who controlled the Republican Part decided in little smoky rooms in Washington what he should think about disarmament, tariffs, and Germany, so did the large national advertisers fix the surface of his life, fix what he believed to be his individuality. These standard advertised wares...at first the signs, then the substitutes, for joy and passion and wisdom (Lewis 95). Confidentiality is one of the three characteristics of the C.I.A. model. It establishes those with sufficient privileges and the need to access the information. Confidentiality is most related to information privacy. It is extremely important to protect the information of employees, customers, or patients. No matter what type of organization it is it will disclose confidential information. That being said, all confidential information is vulnerable to accidental exposure or an intentional hack. If an unauthorized individual or system views the information, confidentiality is breached. Confidentiality contains several measures that are applied to protect the confidentiality of information. These measures include information classification, sure document and data storage, application of general security policies, education of information custodians and end users. Confidentiality must be met in the storage, processing, and transmission of data in an organization. For example, we are going to look at a major recent data breach. Although the line was not so long, it took an eternity for me to receive assistance, since the only two clerks available at the time for that function had a lively talk and did not appear to be in any hurry to attend the line of impatient travelers. Finally, my turn came! The young woman took my documentation with such slow movements that her arms gave the impression of having five pound weights attached to each hand, and then she asked me to put my luggage on a digital scale to my side. I did not have much in my suitcase, only clothes for a week, a couple of family photos, and a small, fluffy, pink bag with my makeup, body lotions, and my favorite perfume that smelled like the ocean in Hawaii impregnated with the exotic fragrance of the Plumerias. Since everything was in order with the weight, they tagged my luggage and put it on the baggage belt while my eyes followed it until it disappeared behind the curtains. Throughout the check in process, I tried to show myself steady and calm; I did not want my relatives there to perceive the pain and sadness reflected in my face for leaving them behind. Katherine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, developed the MBTI tool in the 1940 s. The inspiration to start researching personality type theory began when Katherine first met the future husband of Isabel, Clarence Myers. Further inspiration came from Carl G. Guiding careers: What kinds of jobs or positions will an individual find most fulfilling? Civilians Vs California Farmers vs Civilians Envision yourself, about to complete a straightforward, everyday thing such as washing the dishes, suddenly to your surprise there is no water coming out of the faucet. Well for the civilians of East Porterville this is their reality. California has always had very lenient and ineffective groundwater regulations. Today, this has become a major issue, especially with California s severe drought. The regulation of the aquifer is a necessity because cleanliness is a basic human right and by not regulating the groundwater and leaving civilians with no working water, that right is taken away. The right to bathe, wash your hands, and have a working toilet is simply no more. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was there for the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer as they were both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip from its cap and fall to the table. While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near the cross trainer with a stopwatch trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling the safety officer reached out to catch it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table. I will take up each factor. First of all, I ll describe the effect of Japanese tendency of finding value in working hard. A place where responsibilities and duties were meaningless, because we had all the time in the world to just float and be free. The weightlessness feeling washed over me like waves over the seashore. I was immersed in a feeling of mild tranquility. It s amazing how the world can be renewed just by getting rid of gravity. By defying it. I looked around. It looked fairly ordinary, it was a small street in this small town. It could have been any other day, any other sunset at 5:00 pm. But at the same time, it looked extraordinary. The people hovered above the ground, some street signs and cars were suspended in air too. As a girl was walking her dog, they both strolled on the air as if it were like the flat grey pavement laying on the ground below. I smiled and sighed, for this was a new world. A new beginning for someplace that was once the most boring town on the Earth. All of the sudden, darkness quickly flashed across my field of vision, and I woke up, in my bed. I looked around. My bed laid on the floor, and so did my lamp and my nightstand next to me. Everything was in it s proper place. How disappointing. I exhaled, a small little sigh escaping from my mouth. It was just a dream of course, and it was one I wish I hadn t woken up from. Crawling out of my bed, I stood to look up at my clock, where it showed it was 9:30. I had slept for a full 8 hours, but I couldn t shake the feeling of the draining tiredness away. Maybe I should rest a little more, I thought to myself at first. But at that moment, I had remembered something. It was my experiment! I suddenly broke out into a smile as I realized what I could do. Today, I didn t have any work to do, so that meant I could start my experiment. This experiment could get me one step closer to my dream of defying gravity. In a sudden burst of motivation and excitement, I ran from my bedroom and sailed down the stairs to my lab, where my newest invention awaited. After a few months of extensive research, finding materials and tinkering around with things, I had finally built my anti gravity chamber. I is divided into non residential investment (such as factories) and residential investment (new houses). Net investment deducts depreciation from gross investment. It is the value of the net increase in the capital stock per year. Investment, as production over a period of time ( per year ), is not capital. The time dimension of investment makes it a flow. By contrast, capital is a stock, that is, an accumulation measurable at a point in time (say December 31st). Investment is often modeled as a function of Income and Interest rates, given by the relation I = f(Y, r). An increase in income encourages higher investment, whereas a higher interest rate may discourage investment as it becomes more costly to borrow money. Even if a firm chooses to use its own funds in an investment, the interest rate represents an opportunity cost of investing those funds rather than loaning them out for interest. Finance Approach In finance, investment = cost of capital, like buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets or capital markets, or in fairly liquid real assets, such as gold, real ... Muscles already have all the length they need and attempting to change that length via intense stretching is liable to cause ligament damage rather than actually increase the range of motion. Riddle me this: If muscles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Active ROM is the range of motion a person can actively control their hamstring through (think trying to touch your toes). Passive ROM is the range of motion a hamstring can be moved by an outside force (like when a partner stretches you out). To test your active ROM, lie on your back and lift one leg up as high as you can without bending the knee. To test your passive ROM, perform the same test but have a partner move your leg up and back as far as she can. Differences of more than an inch or two between active ROM and passive ROM are a very undesirable trait and come along with a high risk of injury. This essentially means that your brain is allotting more range of motion than it can actively control. A lack of motor control is an injury risk; if you were forced into a position in which you had no muscular control (falling for example) an injury is likely to occur. In my experience, this is most common in females. If you are in this group, an easy fix is proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching. It is a mouthful, but it is not as difficult as it sounds. This basically is stretching interspersed with muscular contractions. Here is how to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What one ought to have known is The Great Ancient city of Tikal. Tikal located in present day Guatemala is just one of the sites of the Mayan Civilization. The Mayan Civilization ranges from Mexico to the south in Central America. Embedded in their society were beliefs that evolved around sacrifices to their Gods who were usually past kings. Although archaeologist have worked hard trying to discover more information about the Mayan world, they have just scraped the surface of their history. One of the greatest mysteries of the Maya today is the rapid decline of the society depicted by the last stela, an upright stone slab or column, located around 869 A.D. at Tikal and 909 A.D. in the Mayan World about 1000 years before Columbus reached the island of El Salvador in 1492. • 23. Differences Between Minority And Minority Groups Abstract This study explores the relationships between majority and minority groups and their awareness of blatant and subtle prejudice, by priming either common or dual identity. It was hypothesized that due to their marginalization, minority groups will be more aware of both subtle and blatant prejudice and that those primed with dual identity will show a similar heightened awareness. The results demonstrated that majority groups were more aware of both types of prejudice, contradicting many previous results in this area. This study was conducted on an Australian population, making it unique, and possibly explaining the contrary results. However, it has also been suggested that the social stigma surrounding racism in our society has increased the awareness by majority groups, as they strive to be politically correct and avoid judgment by their peers. Another worthy discussion point is the internalization of prejudice by minority groups living in a majority dominated society. How Common and Dual Identity Can Influence Majority and Minority Awareness of Subtle and Blatant Prejudice In modern society, prejudiced ideas and values are present amongst majority dominated societies (Banaji Devos, 2005). Minority groups, and individuals with a heightened sense of cultural affiliation to their ethnicity, have been shown to be more aware of subtle prejudice than majority groups (Operario Fiske, 2001). • 24. Negligence And Its Impact On Society Negligence is a tort that is a major focus point in how people and organizations interact with each other. How the tort of negligence developed is critical for understanding who is held accountable when a civil wrong has occurred. Negligence focuses on three basic elements: a duty of care, a breach of said duty, and causation of damage. The goal of this assessment is to examine the development of these three elements of negligencetort lawin England, and hopefully explain its significance in how it affects society. First, a duty of care must be established for a legitimate negligence claim. The concept of a duty of care is that it demonstrates the defendant (the one wrongdoer) had some sort of responsibility to take care of the claimant (the wronged party who is bringing forth the claim). In English law, the landmark case that conceived the idea of establishing a duty of care was Donoghue v Stevenson (1932 UKHL 100), a case involving a woman who drank a bottle of ginger beer and found a dead snail in the bottle, thus bringing suit against the manufacturer. The House of Lords ruled in the claimant s favor, stating the manufacturer does owe a duty of care to the consumer. Arguably the most integral part of the ruling in Donoghue is where Lord Atkin states: You must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure your neighbor. Who, then, in law is my neighbor? The answer seems to be persons who are so closely and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Marketing in the Banking Industry Marketing in the Banking industry Introduction: In many ways, the banking industry has functioned more as a private industry offering something of a public utility. Through this unique role, the industry has dramatically expanded its service and product offerings over the last several decades. However, even as the industry has evolved, its marketing strategies have remained somewhat static. The assumption for many in the banking industry not unlike a public utility is that their services are needed by the public. This, in and of itself, is a view that has dissuaded many from achieving the type of marketing presence from which they might otherwise benefit. However, this approach is shifting significantly today as banks struggle to compete with one another and with their own negative reputations. As the discussion here will show, more effective marketing is the key to driving new success in an industry in need of a recovery. Problem Statement: Over the last decade, a string of corporate collapses has contributed to a decided downslide in the reputation of the global banking industry. Scandal, embezzlement and dishonesty marked the downfall of a number of prominent investment banking firms, helping to compound a sense for many in the public that bank s are driven by greed and are not to be trusted. This denotes a clear problem for the banking industry on the whole, which relies on the public s trust and loyalty to court and maintain customers. Therefore, a great ... Marxism is a political and social system based on the ideas of Karl Marx (1818 83). Marxist criminology theories began in the 1970 s. According to Marxists, society is controlled by the ruling capitalist class. They believe that in a capitalist society, a small group of wealthy people (the bourgeoisie), own the means of production, such as; factories, businesses, land, etc and that they exploit the working class people (the proletariat), so that they can enjoy a huge profit and personal gain, either legally or illegally. Street crimes (brawls, binge drinking, theft, muggings, social unrest and disorder) are more likely to be pursued than white collar crime (fraud, tax evasion, insider training and even gambling and prostitution). This is because the capitalist governments who have run the country are sympathetic to those who are of the same belief and class, but have just got carried away with their search for wealth. Though the method employed to convert Brutus is quite unprincipled, it shows, no doubt, the skill of a practical man to achieve his objective by hook or by crook. • 37. Computational Scale Out Workloads Applications Abstract Scale out workloads are applications that are typically executed in a cloud environment and exhibit high level of request level parallelism. Such workloads benefit from processor organizations with very high core count since multiple requests can be serviced simultaneously by threads running on these cores. The characteristics of these workloads indicate that they have high instruction footprints exceeding the capacities of private caches, operate on large datasets with limited reuse and have minimal coherence activity due to lesser data sharing. The characteristics also indicate that the active instruction window can be captured by a Last Level Cache (LLC) size of 8MB. New processor organizations have been discussed in literature that tailors the interconnection among cores to match the communication pattern arising out of the characteristics of scale out workloads. The focus of the current work is to take the approach of separating a core and LLC bank from a single tile as specified in literature and design a different interconnection topology for cores and LLC banks to reduce the latency of accessing the LLC to improve performance. In the current work, four cores and a LLC bank are designed to connect to a routerforming a star topology and the routers ( 4) are designed to form a 2D flattened butterfly topology. Mr. Williams And The Music Of Music And Film John Williams once said so much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people s memories and linger it did. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his accomplishments of music and film. In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S. (2005)). The musician generally improvised playing mostly a variety of popular romantic and melodramatic scores of the late nineteenth century (such as William Tell Overture, Ride of the Valkyrie, Les Preludes, etc.) as long as it accompanied the action/scene or enhanced the mood (for dramatic effect). Emmerling and Daniel Goleman inquire as to what emotional intelligence is, how it differs from other established constructs within psychology, whether or not it can be developed, whether or not it can be a better predictor of work performance than traditional measures of intelligence, whether or not it should be measured at all, and how it relates to ethics. Emotional intelligence has a potential utility in predicting a range of criterion across different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would allow those with a low IQ, but a high level of emotional intelligence to thrive with only average intelligence. This gives individuals the idea that IQ matters very little. Emotional intelligence has begun to challenge the assumptions about what leads to success, and to bring a balanced view to the role of emotion and cognition in determining life outcomes. In order to validate claims of the importance that emotional intelligence and traditional intelligence possess in the prediction of certain criterion, more research is needed. Within the emotional intelligence paradigm there exists several theories that attempt to better understand and explain the abilities, skills, and traits associated with emotional and social intelligence. Researchers have been able to demonstrate the discriminant validity of trait based approaches to emotional intelligence. Recent research shows that emotional intelligence is a unique construct that accounts for unique variance when IQ and personality are controlled. Emotional intelligence has not been around for very long, and evidence continues to develop that shows how EI represents many traits and abilities that are not fully accounted for by traditional measures of personality and cognitive intelligence. The traditional intelligence field has not been threatened or discredited for having several theories. Our knowledge and practical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. A Summary On The Workplace Of The United States In Pedigree, Lauren A. Rivera outlines the manner by which the elite are able to reproduce their resources and monopolize access to the most prestigious and highest paying jobs in the United States. Rivera s main argument is that methods by which employers of elite firms characterize credentials and evaluate qualification for top jobs provides more opportunities for candidates who come from socioeconomically advantaged backgrounds, while at the same time limiting opportunities for less privileged applicants. She goes on to highlight how every stage of the evaluative process, from initial submission of rГ©sumГ©s for evaluation to final selections made by committees, is systematically correlated with parental income and education. This exclusion of talented, qualified applicants from less advantaged socioeconomic backgrounds creates a cap for students in terms of the prestige of jobs and income levels that they can attain. In the chapter summaries below, I will outline Rivera s arguments regarding elitereproduction and the methodology by which this process occurs at each phase of the hiring process. Chapter 1: Entering the Elite Rivera begins her argument by focusing on the fundamental stepping stone to competing for elite jobs education. She draws on the literature, and specifically Bourdieu s cultural capital theory, to claim that parents with advanced educations and affluent economic positions are able to pass on essential economic, cultural, and social capital that ... • 41. Crime Rates in America Crime Rates In America Elliot H. Maysonet CJA/204 08 April 2013 Prof. Ron Alter Crime Rates In America In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This perspective is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies heavily on statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern society. This data is collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports. These reports were implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. In addition these reports record criminal activity, the type of crimes committed, the locations of criminal trends, the volume of crimes committed, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These reports are based only on the crimes that have been reported by victims or discovered by police. In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which resulted in arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been reported, have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute due to lack of evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still contribute to our society s criminality. Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white collar crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape, Robbery, Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white collar crimes such as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of product liabilities, etc. are not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend to focus more on street crime as apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to believe contrary to reality. When researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming disparity which shows that white collar crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form of financial cost, property lose or damage, and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011). In researching the topic of crime rates in America, I have learned that crime rates relate to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay Lab Report In order to test the hypothesis that the WRKY75 transcription factor directly regulates FLS2 expression, electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), the CRISPR/Cas9 and microarray techniques can be implemented. Firstly, an EMSA will be conducted to determine whether WKRY75 is a transcriptional factor that regulates and binds to pFLS2. The DNAprobe that will be used is the pFLS2 double stranded DNA sequence, which contains the regulatory element. WRKY75 will be determined as a binding proteinif we observe band shift, as electrophoresis separates molecules based on charge and size; therefore, DNA attached to a protein will take longer to migrate through the gel. If WRKY75 is determined to be a transcriptional factor of pFLS2, we can implement the CRISPR/Cas9 technique.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This specific DNA sequence can be fed into the Cas9 system, which will proceed to cut out this sequence from the WRKY gene. Furthermore, this will mutate the endogenous locus by knocking out the WRKY75 sequence, and the WRKY75 transcriptional factor will not be made. The control treatment will simply be the unaltered WRKY75 nucleotide sequence. To test how this affects FLS2 gene expression, we can run a microarray experiment. We can compare a normal plant cell with an unaltered WRKY gene to the mutated cell with WRKY75 knocked out by fluorescently labelling them with different colors; therefore, level of FLS2 expression will be observed by the fluorescence color produced. If the mutated cell shows no expression of FLS2, it suggests that the WRKY75 transcription factor directly regulates FLS2 expression. However, if we still observe FLS2 expression in the mutated cell, we can infer that the WRKY75 transcriptional factor does not directly regulate FLS2 expression, and may serve an indirect regulatory ... Lascia Ch Io Pianga Analysis Essay The analysis of the aria Lascia ch io pianga by Haendel according to the thorough bass method, shows us how the composer refer in this piece to the typical compositional procedures of baroque music. The aria starts with a pedal (frame, according to Joel Lester s terminology) followed by a cadence harmonized according the regle de l octave both in ascending and descending motion (MM. 5 8). The second episode starting at M. 8 consists of a sequence, precisely a modified sequence, in which the subsequent is slightly modified at the end introducing a new harmonyon the second beat of M. 12 that leads to a final cadence with a modulation to the original key. The regle is always working also in the sequence, it is just applied... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Lascia ch io pianga is possible to understand all the harmonies as fifths and sevenths but the bass line motion not always moves naturally by fifths and fourths. In many cases, through the use of the double emploi, is has been possible to correct some irregular motions into fifth motion, but still for some of them it hasn t been possible. Probably the most evident example is the motion by second occurring between MM. 6 and 7, and between MM. 11 and 12. The fundamental bass analysis bring into play notes that are supposed, that are not in the score but affect the music as the roots of a tree feed the last leaf on the highest branch. In this case, we can see how the sense of motion that we perceive listening to this aria is perfectly explained and justified by the succession of seventh chord and fifth chord, as the epitome of the arsi tesi feeling in music. Even in the first two measures, that look really simple in the thorough bass analysis, we can still discover something that makes this beginning not so obvious. In the first measure the F is transformed into D with a seventh chord on top, and the accumulation of this seventh with the next one in the second measure create a sense of instability and a need to resolve. In the next measures this tension will be released through a succession of 5 chord with two final combinations 7 5 to close the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the report published by Lumina Foundation, Putting Colleges on Notice: Crafting Smarter Strategies to Improve Affordability through Curbing Cost Increases, college leaders are either failing to pay attention, failing to prioritize, or failing to act on the affordability issue (Fryar and Carlson, 2014, p.3). Current efforts to improve affordability are halted by the insufficient attention and the lack of knowledge, evidence, and thoughtful strategy regarding the role of institutional leaders (p.3). Institutional leaders, as the entrepreneur for organization culture and value, their perception of the conflict between cost and quality, and the quality first mindset will shape the organization culture and influence institution s efforts toward affordability. As discussed by Fryar (2014), if leaders perceive efforts to improve affordability as threats to the quality of their institution, efforts toward promoting affordability will be halted. Furthermore, prioritizing quality let college leaders seek for more stable and dependable financial sources. Tuition and fees, as one of the controllable and dependable source, will be the first choice for institution to maintain quality and avoid risk (Fryar, 2014). The dominant ideology that links price with quality in higher education institutions, or in other words, quality is maintained on the base of accumulation of tangible resources and the higher the price is, the better the education will be, is the root problem for the ineffective institutional affordability movements. Reducing Student Debt Burden Higher debt burden for students may increase their probability to default on the loans, and high cohort default rates can negatively reflect on institution quality; ...
