Postindustrial Societies And Its Impact On The US
The daily life s for postindustrial, industrial and preindustrial societies are all different. Their
descriptions of each might sound familiar but are upgraded each time. Preindustrial is the oldest
society because it is based near the Industrial Revolution. It amazes me how far our societies have
come and how they have impacted the US. If you don t know anything about these societies your
about to. Postindustrial society is where the economic importance is about providing information and
services. In postindustrial societies information and advanced technology are more important than
manufacturing goods. Post industrialization can be found in places like Europe, Japan, even the United
States. A postindustrial society sometimes follows a industrialized

The Central Park Five Is A Documentary By Ken Burns About
The Central Park Five is a documentary by Ken Burns about five young black men who were
wrongfully convicted of a crime they did not commit. This documentary focused on showing how
these boys got convicted, why they got convicted, the effects and response from the public of their
convictions, and their release. For the remaining part of my paper, I am going to show how the
sociological theoretical perspectives, in particular the conflict perspective, explains why the events in
the film happened the way they did. The three major parts of the conflict theory that I am going to be
focusing on relates to how the people with wealth and power has a major influence in society and how
they went about abusing that power that was given to them. I am ... Show more content on

They had already set their mind that these boys committed the crime and used their power to make the
boys tell them what they wanted to hear. They used their power to hold the boys at the police station
until they confessed . The boys did not know of their rights that they had and were detained for a long
period of time until they were made to believe that if they were to confess, they could go home.
Another way that criminal law was used to control the working class in the documentary is with bail.
If someone has money, they can pay for a temporary release from jail. In the film, two boys were able
to be released on bail, but three of the boys families weren t able to come up the money, so they had to
stay in jail. It is clear that if someone is of the working class, it would be difficult for them to come up
with the money because of financial issues. If someone was rich, they would be able to pay the bail or
fine without having to worry about providing food on the table or paying bills. Because of this, it
seems like these criminal laws are set up to benefit those who are wealthy and weed out those that are
poor. Those associated with the lower class are usually associated with crime and violence and
because of that, these criminal laws are targeted towards a group of people who are at a disadvantage.
In The Central Park Five, we can see that wealthy people and the authorities hold most of the power.

Direct and Indirect Methods of Communication with the Gods...
Both directly and indirectly, the Ancient Greeks communicated with their gods through various
methods that ranged from oracles and seers to sacrifice. The oracles of ancient Greece were consulted
on issues ranging from serious community matters to private healing and served as a conduit for
communication between the mortals and the gods. Seers and oracles were an important part of Ancient
Greek divination through which the gods provided with insight of events to come. In addition,
sacrifice at the hearth or public bonfires were used as a means of direct communication with the gods
in order to convey prayers to the heavens.
In terms of indirect communication with the gods, one of the most famous methods was consulting an
oracle. One of the most popular oracles of Ancient Greece was the Oracle of Delphi. People would
journey for days to visit this oracle and hear the wisdom of the gods which she received through a gift
from Apollo, the god of prophecy. Receiving a prophecy was a lengthy process which started with the
oracle bathing in the spring of Castalia and drinking from another nearby stream. A priest would then
determine if Apollo was present by pouring ice water on a goat. If the goat shivered the oracle was
ready to give the prophecy, and if not then Apollo was not present and therefore she was not ready to
deliver a prophecy (Pythia Prophecies, 2014). When she spoke, the pythia would be seated on a tripod
over a small opening in the ground, the opening released gases

Braxton Bragg Research Paper
Braxton Bragg was born on March 22, 1817 in North Carolina (History.com). Bragg did not talk about
his parents but what we do know is that his dad was a contractor and his mom was arrested for killing
a freed slave. Though his parents were not the best, his brother was a politician who helped him get
into the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1833 (History.com). He flourished at the
academy and graduated one year later, he finished fifth out of fifty soldiers. Bragg was affiliated with
the military for the majority of his life, and served in two major wars before the civil war. He served in
the Second Seminole War and the Mexican American War. After returning from the Mexican
American War he was deemed a war hero. He later, in 1849 married Eliza Brooks Ellis who was a
very wealthy lady from Louisiana (Civil War Trust). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Civil War began, he was promoted to major general in the militia. Later on in the war, he
was moved to brigadier general in the Confederate Army and was had power of troops who were

with some of best trained troops in the Confederate Army. Next, Bragg was promoted to major general
and was sent to serve alongside of Albert Sidney Johnston in the war s Western Theater. Bragg s first
actual combat of the Civil War came in April of 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee. Bragg and
the confederates lost this battle, but he was glorified for executing an assault on a Union position
called the Hornets Nest. His partner in fighting, Albert Sidney Johnston died in the fighting on the
same day that Bragg was promoted to full general. After General P.G.T Beauregard s failure to take

Steel Magnolias Character Analysis
The main focus of the 1989 film Steel Magnolias is a relationship between a mother and her daughter
and how that relationship touches and affects the lives of others. The film features some stellar acting.
Sally Field plays the mother M Lynn Eatenton and Julia Roberts is her vivacious daughter, Shelby.
The rest of the Eatenton family are Shelby s younger brothers, Tommy and Jonathan and their father

Banning Written Texts Should Not Baned Books
Until recently, the trend of banning thousands of time honored books was routinely taking place in
public libraries and schools across the country. Presently, many censored books are prevailing on
library shelves and remaining in the hands of students. Without a doubt, banning a book entirely
deprives people of being able to think differently and learn about new topics. However, censoring
books is an exceptional way to allow those who are easily offended to read a written work without
raising an eyebrow. A person will still comprehend the idea of a censored text, while not becoming
insulted by it. Written texts should not be banned because people should be able to choose for
themselves what they wish to read, but written texts should be censored for people who are sensitive
and feel a text is too provocative or offensive for them.
Banning a written text is wrong and unacceptable for numerous reasons. Banning a text limits people s
point of view and keeps them in their comfort zone; people are able to choose for themselves what
they want to read. Limiting society s point of view is a crime; people will forever be narrow minded
and unable to form their own opinions, if this continues. For example, the article Book Banning
Endangers Majority Values, states, Conservative materials on the issue of homosexuality are
disappearing from the collection, or more often, never appearing in the first place (Harvey). Many
books directed from the conservative standpoint, which is

Mao Zedong Leader
Mao Zedong was the most influential Chinese leader of the twentieth century. Mao a Communist
politician and Marxist Ideologist is most renowned for the unification of China and the creator of the
People Republic of China. He governed as Chairman of the Communist Part of China for twenty
seven years. Among his many accomplishment were his military feats, pushing a national self reliance
and spurring China into the modern age. However, Mao s rule was not without its failures. He his
criticized for being a ruthless dictator, responsible for harsh living conditions and the death of
thousands of Chinese people. Never the less Mao had a great impact and is responsible for the nation
and world power that China is today.
Mao s rise to power was an interesting journey, because of his very humble beginnings. He was Born
on December 26, 1893 into a peasant family in Shaoshan in the Hunan province of central China.
From a young age, Mao showed a great intelligence and a desire for knowledge. He attended a local
primary school at the age of eight, but received little education. To satisfy his appetite for learning
Mao was an avid reader. By the time, he thirteen he was working the fields alongside his father, a
grain farmer. Mao rejected the life his father had planned for him. Mao s great ambitions caused
conflicts between him and his father. When he turned eighteen Mao left home for Changsha, the
province capital, to enrolled in a secondary school. During this time, in 1911, revolution was growing
against the monarchy. Mao joined the Revolutionary army and the nationalist party. In 1912, the
monarchy was overthrown and the Republic of china was founded. Mao was caught up in the
movement and the excitement of political and change sweeping the country. He reveled in the bright
new future he saw for himself and his country (Schram, 1983).
Mao became a teacher and upon graduating moved to Beijing where he found work as a library
assistant at the Beijing university. Then with the success of the Russian Revolution, which established
the communist Soviet Union, Mao s interest in the communist party was sparked. During this time, he
began studying Marxism and aligning himself with that ideology. He looked for ways to

With many families in the world starving and/ or dealing with diseases they don t know how to cure,
but with money provided they would be able to get it under control at least a start. Then we have the
people in the states who are more worried about the fact that they don t have the newest iPhone, which
note, is not a life or death necessity. How are we to justify the fact that we are able to spend all the
money we have on unnecessary items and the people in North Korean or parts in Africa can barely or
many not even be able to afford food for the day to survive. As Peter Singer states We cannot dis

So if it is in our power to help the children in Africa who are suffering from starvation or even disease
their country that does not know how to treat yet, we are obligated to help. Some may ask why they

distance should not matter in the sense of being able to help starving kids. When you ask yourself
whether you re in the bind of being able to help starving kids or buying the newest up to date iPhone
the first answer would be to donate, but many people see the relief organizations as a scam and
wonder if they were to donate if the money would really go to the people they said they were going to.
In that case you have to do your research in the organization to be sure they have had a good

Mercedes Benz
During the recession in 1990, Mercedes Benz struggled to adapt to changing markets. The luxury car
market lost money for the first time in history in the 90 s. In 1993, there was a big sales slump in
Mercedes Benz sales. In its search for additional market share, new segments, and new niches
Mercedes started developing a range of new products. One of the most radical and largest of the new
range of products is AAV (all activity vehicles). In order to be competitive in the market, Mercedes
Benz needs to control costs and also meet the customer requirements at the same time. To achieve this
goal, Mercedes Benz adapted target costing. Is Mercedes Benz heading in a right direction with target

From this, engineers determined that chassis quality was important. A fourth table was created to
know the importance index of various function groups by using information from table1 and table 3.
For example, the importance index for chassis is calculated by multiplying each row in table 3 with
the relative percentage of each column of table1 that is (.50 x .41) + (.30 x .32) + (.10 x .18) + (.10 x
.09) = .33. A final table was developed to calculate the target cost index for each functional group. The
target cost index was calculated by dividing each important index (from table 4) with target cost (from
table 2). For example, the importance index for Chassis is .33 and the target cost is 20% so the target
cost index is 1.65. A function group with target cost index ration less than 1 indicates that it is a
candidate for possible cost reduction. That is the ratio of cost to benefit is low. Options available are:
Re evaluating assumptions or importance, reduce cost of existing design by working with supply
partners. In general, 80% of the components and systems are provided by suppliers. So working with
the suppliers for cost reduction is very critical for target costing. Through an iterative process, either
the importance index or the target cost is adjusted to bring the target cost index to the desired level. By
using target costing, Mercedes controlled costs at the

Enzyme Catalysis And Enzyme Inhibition Essay
Enzyme catalysis and enzyme inhibition are two essential biological mechanisms of organisms. In this
experiment, WT AP and MBP AP enzyme are reacted with different concentrations of PNPP substrate
in SpectrovVis time based assays. From the change in absorbance over time data, and the rates of the
reactions are calculated, followed by the determination of the kinetic constants. Then, the MBP AP
assays are repeated with two different concentrations of phosphate inhibitor and the kinetic constants
of the uninhibited enzymes are compared to those of the inhibited enzymes. Results of the experiment
show that the uninhibited WT AP and MBP AP enzymes yielded expected kinetic constants according
to a reference. However, the inhibited enzymes produced kinetics constants that did not resemble a
competitive inhibition, which was expected. Instead, the inhibitor is observed to be a mixed inhibitor.
Introduction Enzymes are biological catalysts. Without them, biological reactions will not proceed in a
reasonable rate. For example, without a series of digestive enzymes, it can take 20 years to digest a
hamburger. Enzyme catalyzed reactions proceed through an ES complex, in which the substrate binds
to the enzyme, gets transformed into the product, and releases into the environment. For a specific
enzyme, only one or a few different substrate molecules can bind in the proper manner and produce a
functional ES complex. The substrate must have a size, shape, and polarity compatible with

Running Estimate for the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Rescue Mission The prisoners of the
Cabanatuan Prison are in grave danger as the US 6th Army is advancing and the Japanese are in full
retrograde; it is with this in mind that we are planning this raid. The prison camp is behind enemy
lines, approximately 30 miles from Guimba, and currently flooded with the withdrawing Japanese
forces. The camp is being used as a transit point as they retreat to the north and east. Daylight hours
are when you find the largest troop concentrations; the current TTP is for Japanese forces to move
during the night. Additionally, a projected force of about 800 Japanese with tanks and heavy weapons
are templated at Cabu. The Terrain leading up to the Camp has vegetation and easily traversable roads;
we have the support of the local population to help us in the recovery efforts. As the US rangers
approach the camp, the last mile will be treacherous because all vegetation has been cleared and the
forecasted moon and light data is not favorable. Once we start to evacuate the US Prisoners we will be
faced with soldiers who have been on reduced rations for the last few years, medical estimates suggest
that we can expect 7 10% (35/500) of the prisoners to be non ambulatory. The remainder will be
debilitated from malnutrition and disease, making their movement slow at best. Friendly forces will

Abortion and the Privacy Amendment Essay
Abortion and the Privacy Amendment
A U.S. citizen s right to privacy was first discussed in an 1890 Harvard Law Review article in which
two Boston lawyers, Louis Brandeis and Samuel Warren, defined it as the right to be let alone. Since
then, the right to privacy has provided the basis for a stream of revolutionary and controversial
constitutional interpretations by courts across the United States, culminating in the U.S. Supreme
Court s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Although decisions have come down in favor of a right to
privacy, they are largely based on a broad and disputed interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

A Rutgers professor summarized the problems deriving from the right to privacy when he wrote, If
human rights such as the right to be let alone are to enjoy the force of law, it seems desirable for the
right to be spelled out carefully. The right to privacy is entirely a judicial interpretation and creation,
meaning that it has little permanence or substance. Only a constitutional amendment can insure that
one s privacy is an undisputed, inalienable right.
So, why isn t this amendment before Congress? The first reason is that many policymakers believe
that the right to privacy is too hard to define, and therefore cannot be worded into an amendment.
However, the current vulnerability of a Fourteenth Amendment based right to privacy justifies an
amendment which states simply that every American citizen possesses the basic right to personal
privacy. If the amendment were a simple declaration of the right s existence, then the definition of
privacy, like freedom of speech, would be left to the interpretation of the Court. This new amendment
would negate Justice Rehnquist s strong position that the Fourteenth Amendment, an Amendment
passed during Reconstruction to give citizenship to

The Positive Implication Of Multinational Corporations
Introduction
The global landscape of business is continually expanding and major companies are crossing borders
in their daily business activities. As these multinational corporations branch into new areas, known as
emerging markets, they will face a plethora of risk, challenges, and opportunities. Branding and
sustainability are two major aspects of a business and emerging markets provide a different landscape
that will require strategic changes and innovative solutions. One of the major ramifications of these
corporations entering emerging markets, is their coherence to the principles of corporate social
responsibility (CSR). Whereas much of the past research on this topic focuses primarily on the risks
and challenges a company faces in such a situation, this paper will focus primarily on the positive
implications of Multinational Corporations (MNCs). This paper will look to answer what CSR efforts
should be taken by MNCs? What are the risk, challenges, and benefits to MNCs and the emerging
market? What are the effects on the MNCs brand when they participate in CSR? How is the nature of
the emerging market important when taking into consideration CSR? Given the stature and resources
that many MNCs have, they have the potential to make a major positive impact on emerging markets
in the realm of ethics, rights, and quality of life.

Have you ever had a friend or family member die of lung cancer, or die of a smoking related death? In
America over 160,000 men and women die each year from lung cancer. That is less than the amount
that have died from breast and colon cancer combined. The leading cause of lung cancer in the United
States is smoking tobacco. With this high amount of deaths, a lot of companies are creating ads to get
the point out. Companies such as the huffington post create ads that are filled with a message. These
messages can be viewed through the symbolism of the ad, the color and position of the ad.

The Impact of a Third Party AmericaĀ“s Two Party Political System
For hundreds of years, the two party system has dominated the American culture, but many people are
confused by what a two party system actually means. Although a two party system is defined as two
parties that are bigger than the rest, third parties have greatly impacted elections for over a hundred
years. Minor parties still continuously voice their opinions in issues, causing other candidates of either
major party to adopt their philosophies. Furthermore, some parties, such as the Reform have actually
been successful in obtaining a position, such as governor. Finally, third party candidates have actually

All of these positions influence the people to consider the presidential minor parties, thus having an
impact on the presidential elections. When a party wins a local office as a minor party, the name of
whatever the minor party is spreads around all the way around the United States. Not only does
winning a local office help the victor, but it also helps the member of the same party who runs for
President. The most recent example of a third party winning an office is the Independent Senator, Jim
Jeffords of Vermont. Jeffords, who was once a Republican, became an Independent because he felt he
no longer supported the policies of George W. Bush s Republican Party. With Jeffords transformation
to the Independent Party, he has promoted the Independent Party over the last three years and
continues to be a prominent figure in the modern Independent world. In terms of governor, Jesse
Ventura was elected as the Reform Party s Governor of Minnesota where he advocated and endorsed
the typical Reform beliefs. Ventura shocked the world with the exception of other minor party
candidates, who believed any party could win with a strong campaign. Ventura has been credited with
being one of the first few people to employ the Internet in a political campaign. The Green party in

The Impact Of Mentoring On Counseling Programs
The Impact of Mentoring on Counselors
There are many different facets to counseling training programs. One of the most interesting parts of
this program is mentoring. This overview of mentorship will incorporate what mentorship is, the
function of the relationship during mentorship, and different roles of mentee and mentors.
Additionally to that, this overview will examine how mentorship is handle in counseling programs,
and when proper mentorship is given to mentee, it can lead further future endeavors which are mentee
becoming mentors or find success in careers. When mentoring relationships are impactful and
successful, it can create this domino or ripple effect of change not only for the student and mentor, but
it can affect his or her future performance as counselors. By applying more ideals from mentoring into
counseling programs, students get a more enriched experience and education while working towards
their goals of becoming counselors.
Looking at Mentorship
What is Mentorship? A mentor is a person whom has greater professional authority. It is a person
whom is several years old than the person that he or she is mentoring. He or she also needs to have

Sebastian Bach Inspiration
Johann Sebastian Bach was an inspiration and influence to those of his time and those today. He was a
German composer who played the violin, organ, harpsichord, and sang. He was, arguably, one of the
greatest composers in western musical history. Bach went through many obstacles in his life to
become successful, and that is why he is such an inspiration to me. Bach was born on March 31, 1865

How The Family Influence In Joyce Carol Oates Where Are...
In Joyce Carol Oates Where are you going, where have you been, family influence is shown to be a
key factor in the molding of a child s character, who they are. Connie, the protagonist of Oates short
story, missed out on this key due to lack in positive family influence. Connie, insecure and vulnerable,
was led straight into the arms of Arnold, because her family belittled her, caused her dual personality
and omitted proper guidance.
First of all, Connie s parents played no role in improving her self image. Connie s mother, having aged
out of her prime, was jealous of her daughter s beauty, criticizing her whenever the opportunity
presented itself. Connie s mother would yell at her younger daughter, Stop gawking at yourself, who
are you? You think you re so pretty? (312). This constant scolding chipped away at Connie s
confidence, leaving her yearning for affirmation, someone to say she is such a pretty girl ... Show

Much like a corrupted computer file, Connie created a new image, one that broke away from the
corrupted indoor Connie, Everything about her had two sides to it, one for home and one for anywhere
that was not home (313). Proving that life could be better, Connie went out shopping or to a movie
often, not because they provided temporary entertainment to kill time, but to watch as boys want her.
One night in midsummer they ran across [to a restaurant], breathless with daring, and right away
someone leaned out a car window and invited them over, but it was just a boy from high school they
didn t like. It made them feel good to be able to ignore him (313). Knowing that someone wanted her
satisfied her need to be praised. However, this left her vulnerable to people who prayed on the
insecurities of others. Arnold Friend was quick to discover the psychological conflict of living a split

Essay On Kodak Vs Fuji
KODAK VS. FUJI: THE BATTLE FOR GLOBAL MARKET SHARE
by Thomas C. Finnerty
Thomas C. Finnerty is a doctoral candidate in the Doctoral of Professional Studies Program, Lubin
School of Business, Pace University, New York. This case was written under the supervision of
Warren J. Keegan, Professor of International Business and Marketing and Director of the Institute for
Global Business Strategy, Lubin School of Business, Pace University, New York, as a basis for class
discussion rather than to illustrate either effective or ineffective handling of a business situation. 2000

Over the last decade, while the U.S. based Eastman Kodak Company was sleeping, the Japanese firm
Fuji Photo Film opened its first film production plant in the U.S., cut prices, marketed aggressively
and stole valuable market share. Kodak maintains that it will not engage in a price war to win
customers back, due to potential profit erosion. The inroads that Fuji has made in the U.S. market will
certainly continue their momentum. They (Kodak) are competing against an extremely determined,
extremely proficient and extremely well financed company in Fuji, says Michael Ellman, who tracks
Kodak for Schroder Company.3 What then, begs the question, is Kodak to do? Many analysts are
demanding that Kodak s CEO George Fisher take drastic action to cut costs, reduce debt and right the
sinking ship.
THE CHANGING CUSTOMER The dynamics within the photo industry have changed dramatically
within the past 15 years. Once upon a time, the film industry within the United States was basically
stable and predictable, with industry leader Eastman Kodak, a US based company headquartered in
Rochester, N.Y., having a commanding share of the industry, hovering between 80 to 90%.4 No
competitors even had a double digit percentage of the amateur photo market and many consumers

The Issues Of The Midwifery And Obstetrics
In recent years, midwifery and obstetrics have become two of the most prominent and primary ways
of care for women of childbearing age in comparison to unassisted births and other documented
methods. Although midwifery is not as prevalent as obstetrics, there is a rise in midwifery today. In
the United States women and their partners are faced with the choice of who should provide care
before, during and after pregnancy. As of today there has been a rise in how many births are attended
by nurse midwives than it was a quarter of a century ago but the number of births attended by an
obstetrician gynecologist (OBGYN) is still significantly higher. Faced with either option, OBGYN or
nurse midwife, women of childbearing age are not adequately informed or are misinformed on their
choices when it comes to each specialty. This paper explores the issue of women being thoroughly
informed on their birth options and on which provider is necessary. This paper also compares the two
professions, midwifery and obstetrics in the realm of pregnancy, pregnancy care and childbirth. This
examination of professional practices for pregnant women points out the limitations of each
obstetrician gynecologists and their attendance in low risk pregnancies and deliveries and suggests the
need for midwives more than ever.
Choices: Midwifery Today
What is choice? Is it making an informed decision based on facts or is it deciding between opposing
factors based on pure emotion? Perhaps it is just

Archetypes In The Amazing Spider Man
In the movie, The Amazing Spider Man, the director uses the archetypes, The Battle of Good vs Evil,
The Hero, The Tyrant, The Warrior, Sidekicks, and The Forest. We as humans, will not find our
confidence in ourselves for a long time because bravery is a hard thing to accomplish and is a difficult
task to do by yourself. This theme is conveyed throughout the entire movie because people need to
step up and face the evil that could await them if they don t find the confidence from what makes the
person the person. Spider Man was shown to be a nerdy high schooler who doesn t make many
friends. He gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains powers that nobody would have ever

He wanted to be the hero and save the people of queens from death. He had nothing else to do with his
powers. Police didn t have the power to kill The Lizard and Spider Man was the only one with the
power needed to take down The Lizard. It took courage and bravery to do something that could get
him killed. Knowing that you could be killed doing something is a frightening thought. Not many
people will make life threatening situations. This theme is conveyed throughout the entire movie
because Spider Man needs to stop the The Lizard from killing more people or causing destruction to
the world. He doesn t stop when it comes to giving up. He keeps trying to save many people. Doing
what you don t want can show courage and confidence in yourself. Spider Man represents The Hero
archetype because he is showing a great amount of courage to fulfill his task. He has to restore balance
throughout New York City. This theme is conveyed throughout all of Spider Man s fights because he
shows that one can accomplish anything, if they try. Giving up should never happen. People need to
put their full extent into everything so they can show that the confidence and bravery help make them

Hip Fractures And The Most Serious Clinical Consequence Of...
Background
Osteoporosis, millions of people suffered worldwide, is a condition where the amount of bone is
declined but its elements remain unchanged, leading to bone fragility and fractures (Garrow, James
and Ralph, 1999). Associated with morbidity and mortality (Holt et al., 2008), hip fractures are
recognized as the most serious clinical consequence of osteoporosis, resulting in an increased
estimated incidence from 1.26 million in 1990 to 2.6 and 4.5 million by the year of 2025 and 2050,
respectively (Gullberg, Johnell and Kanis, 1997). In Europe, the direct expenditure of osteoporotic

of European population, it was expected to rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) proved no evidence between CaD and risk of
hip fracture (Smith et al., 2007; Law et al., 2006), suggesting that the amount recommended above
could not meet the needs for the elderly.
Due to prevalence in postmenopausal women and controversy mentioned above, this critical review
focuses on proving relationship between different level of CaD intake and prevention of hip fracture
via RCTs studies.
Search strategy
Pubmed and Web of Science were used in searching relevant articles with the terms calcium and/or
vitamin D , in conjunction with hip fracture . Titles and abstracts were read to select articles included
relationship between dietary and hip fracture. Non relevant articles such as education and management
of post surgery were discarded. Relevant articles should meet following criteria: a) English, b)
postmenopausal women, c) RCT, d) free of osteoporosis. Most of the chosen articles were only
focused on postmenopausal women, whilst the rest few ones focused on both gender.
Review
Fourteen studies were critically reviewed in order to check whether joint or independent effect of
calcium and vitamin D on hip fracture risk or bone mineral density as a result of effect on prevention
of hip fracture.

The Three Prisoners In The Myth Of The Cave
1. The Myth of the Cave is a parable that examines and tries to explain how one forms their perception
of the world surrounding them. There are three prisoners in the cave and they are bound to one of the
cave falls so that they can only face forward. These men have been imprisoned in the cave since birth
and they have never left the cave. Behind them there is a fire and a raised walkway and the fire
projects the shadows of the objects that pedestrians are carrying. The prisoners believe that the
shadows are reality because these are the only things they have experienced. However, one prisoner is
able to escape and views the real world outside of the cave. At first he is blinded by the fire in the cave
and realizes that the objects on

Nicolae Ceau Research Paper
In the year 1989, a brother was born to Hurricane Gabrielle blowing the door off of a small New
Jersey apartment frame. In 1989 as well, President Nicolae Ceaușescu was executed via capital
punishment. President or, more modernly referred to Dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu was the leader of
Communist Romania for nearly three decades. Similar to Stalin, the majority of Ceaușescu s life
consisted of illegal activity as a minor, ruling Romania to food shortages and despair, and threatening
his people due to his own mishaps and faults. Early on, President Ceaușescu was held liable for
multiple illegal activities. Likewise to Stalin, these crimes would later affect his career and private life.

importantly: tactic. His inhabitants were forced to capitulate against his demands. Imagine one s life

of many Stalin esque properties, such as: civilization threats, starvation, and illegal activity.
Throughout Nicolae Ceaușescu s reign, never did he once try to mend his faults, only deepening and
worsening the damage. Likewise to Stalin, he was a ruthless dictator with a heart frozen and
manipulated beyond repair. Even during death, he chanted a communist hymn. Ceaușescu s last words

Turning Point Of Juno
Analysis of the movie Juno
Plot
The movie follows a sixteen year old teenager named Juno. She often hangs out with her best friend
Leah and a guy named Paulie Bleeker, however after an accident with Bleeker, Juno finds herself
pregnant. At this time Juno knew she had to do something so she went to the nearest Women s Clinic,
but soon she changes her mind and gives it up for adoption instead. With the help from Leah they soon
find an ad in a newspaper, Juno decides to contact them and later she meets up with them. They seem
like the perfect parents but after a dramatic turn she finds out that they may not be what she once
thought. The big turning point for me would be when Mark reveals that he is going to break up with
Vanessa. After this Vanessa gets her heart shattered and Juno wants to help them out. This led to Juno
having to make many difficult decisions, even the whole plot changed from one thing to the other. All
this makes this certain turning point stand out from the rest and that is why in my opinion this is the

She is a sixteen year old girl that acts a lot different compared to the other girls in the film. Even when
she gets pregnant she tries to create an attitude that in turn changes how she acts around her friends
and family. Bleeker however really tries to let the mother do all of the work and he even tries to put
this thing aside as evidenced during one of the running segments. These two are the main characters
since I think the film is mainly about the relationship between both of them. How Juno and Bleeker s
relationship is presented towards the audience takes a turn during the ending sequence in which it is
revealed that both of them had developed feelings towards each other. In the beginning however it s
shown that Bleeker may like Juno in this way but it appears as if he would not have the courage to

Power Struggle In Philippa Gregory s The Lady Of The Rivers
The novel The Lady of the Rivers follows the story of a noblewoman, Jacquetta of Luxembourg,
during the early to mid 1400s. She enters the world of politics at age seventeen when she is married to
the Duke of Bedford. When he dies, she falls in love with and marries a squire, which was not socially
acceptable because he was below her rank. However, she eventually regains her position and becomes
a close friend and advisor of the queen of England, Margaret of Anjou. However, the country begins to
break down as battles between political figures begin. Political and military battles are prominent in
the novel as they are centers of conflict throughout the book. Philippa Gregory s The Lady of the

In the book, the royal army and the Londoners pushed the Kentish men back across the river and then
raised the drawbridge, which effectively locked them out. After this, the king sent pardons to all of the

says, having failed in this battle to gain control of the bridge, the captain of the Kentish militia, Jack
Cade, negotiated a general pardon for his followers (Bohna). Both the novel and the source state that
pardons were sent out to all of the people who had gone against the government and disrupted town

political populace as a sign of weakness, and the people who were so easily pardoned did not seem to
feel as if the king had any authority over

Slavery In Georgia
What is a Georgian? As a Floridian, the first word that pops into my mind (because it was all I heard
my entire life in regards to the peach state) is racist, quickly followed by good ole boy. Having lived
her for over five years, however, I don t think that is a clear description in the least. While I certainly
didn t know the intricate histories that brought Georgia to the place it is now, I found it to be a much
more integrated environment than my rural North Central Florida hometown. From A Town Atlanta to
Savannah, I had never seen so much cultural and racial diversity as I have in Georgia a state that I
previously assumed was predominately full of white good ole boys. I began to wonder what gave
Georgia its reputation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

many fell into tenant farming which soon began to resemble slavery in an eerie way white men owned
the lands, they owned the crops, and black people were allowed to stay there in exchange for working
the land. Essentially they were still very much under the thumb of the white man. If any black men
tried to fight the system, they were lynched or kicked off the land they so desperately needed, and left
desolate and homeless. Post Civil War Georgia proved to be only the slightest improvement over
slaver, and it would take a very long time before it became any

Descriptive Statistics In Table 2
After conducting an analysis of descriptive statistics, as found in Table I, the results reveal that $224.6
million dollars (M=$4.16 million, SD=$2.99 million) was spent across the 54 multimedia rights
agreements during the 2015 2016 school year. The smallest financial payout is $375,000 and belongs
to Northern Illinois, while the largest contract $12,358,087 million, belonging to the University of
Texas. The disparity among institutions becomes more evident when analyzing the multimedia rights
contracts. Of the $224.6 million dollars spent during the 2015 2016 season, $182.3 million was spent
on institutions who compete in one of the Power 5 conferences, meaning that the 31 Power 5
institutions in this study receive 81.2% of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of total spending, IMG is followed by Learfield (sum = $82.3 million), JMI (sum = $11.9

contracts, and only has two institution, which is reflected in their low total payout. However, as
illustrated in Table VI, JMI has a higher average payout than the two larger companies, IMG and
Learfield, (M=$5.93 million, SD= $4.7 million). JMI will see an increase in their average payout
during the 2016 2017 as well as during the 2017 2018 seasons with addition of Clemson who will
make $2.6 million to $7.7 million during the respective seasons. IMG and Learfield are relatively
similar in average payouts, with IMG averaging $4.53 million (SD = $3.52 million) and Learfield
averaging $3.74 million (SD= $1.87 million). IMG and Learfield, both with over 20 contracts a piece
have a far greater range of contract sizes, with IMG controlling both the smallest payout, $375,000,
and the largest payout, $12.36 million. The variables outlined in Table VII were used in an attempt to
explain the effect that numerous factors have on the guaranteed rights fee that a university receives
from a third party rights holder. Those variables were separated into four categories; property related,
football performance, basketball performance, and demand indicators. From there, a Pearson product

  • 2. Postindustrial Societies And Its Impact On The US The daily life s for postindustrial, industrial and preindustrial societies are all different. Their descriptions of each might sound familiar but are upgraded each time. Preindustrial is the oldest society because it is based near the Industrial Revolution. It amazes me how far our societies have come and how they have impacted the US. If you don t know anything about these societies your about to. Postindustrial society is where the economic importance is about providing information and services. In postindustrial societies information and advanced technology are more important than manufacturing goods. Post industrialization can be found in places like Europe, Japan, even the United States. • 3. The Central Park Five Is A Documentary By Ken Burns About The Central Park Five is a documentary by Ken Burns about five young black men who were wrongfully convicted of a crime they did not commit. This documentary focused on showing how these boys got convicted, why they got convicted, the effects and response from the public of their convictions, and their release. For the remaining part of my paper, I am going to show how the sociological theoretical perspectives, in particular the conflict perspective, explains why the events in the film happened the way they did. The three major parts of the conflict theory that I am going to be focusing on relates to how the people with wealth and power has a major influence in society and how they went about abusing that power that was given to them. I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had already set their mind that these boys committed the crime and used their power to make the boys tell them what they wanted to hear. They used their power to hold the boys at the police station until they confessed . The boys did not know of their rights that they had and were detained for a long period of time until they were made to believe that if they were to confess, they could go home. Another way that criminal law was used to control the working class in the documentary is with bail. If someone has money, they can pay for a temporary release from jail. In the film, two boys were able to be released on bail, but three of the boys families weren t able to come up the money, so they had to stay in jail. It is clear that if someone is of the working class, it would be difficult for them to come up with the money because of financial issues. If someone was rich, they would be able to pay the bail or fine without having to worry about providing food on the table or paying bills. Because of this, it seems like these criminal laws are set up to benefit those who are wealthy and weed out those that are poor. Those associated with the lower class are usually associated with crime and violence and because of that, these criminal laws are targeted towards a group of people who are at a disadvantage. In The Central Park Five, we can see that wealthy people and the authorities hold most of the power. The people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Direct and Indirect Methods of Communication with the Gods... Both directly and indirectly, the Ancient Greeks communicated with their gods through various methods that ranged from oracles and seers to sacrifice. The oracles of ancient Greece were consulted on issues ranging from serious community matters to private healing and served as a conduit for communication between the mortals and the gods. Seers and oracles were an important part of Ancient Greek divination through which the gods provided with insight of events to come. In addition, sacrifice at the hearth or public bonfires were used as a means of direct communication with the gods in order to convey prayers to the heavens. In terms of indirect communication with the gods, one of the most famous methods was consulting an oracle. One of the most popular oracles of Ancient Greece was the Oracle of Delphi. People would journey for days to visit this oracle and hear the wisdom of the gods which she received through a gift from Apollo, the god of prophecy. Receiving a prophecy was a lengthy process which started with the oracle bathing in the spring of Castalia and drinking from another nearby stream. A priest would then determine if Apollo was present by pouring ice water on a goat. If the goat shivered the oracle was ready to give the prophecy, and if not then Apollo was not present and therefore she was not ready to deliver a prophecy (Pythia Prophecies, 2014). When she spoke, the pythia would be seated on a tripod over a small opening in the ground, the opening released gases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Braxton Bragg Research Paper Braxton Bragg was born on March 22, 1817 in North Carolina (History.com). Bragg did not talk about his parents but what we do know is that his dad was a contractor and his mom was arrested for killing a freed slave. Though his parents were not the best, his brother was a politician who helped him get into the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1833 (History.com). He flourished at the academy and graduated one year later, he finished fifth out of fifty soldiers. Bragg was affiliated with the military for the majority of his life, and served in two major wars before the civil war. He served in the Second Seminole War and the Mexican American War. After returning from the Mexican American War he was deemed a war hero. He later, in 1849 married Eliza Brooks Ellis who was a very wealthy lady from Louisiana (Civil War Trust). ... Next, Bragg was promoted to major general and was sent to serve alongside of Albert Sidney Johnston in the war s Western Theater. Bragg s first actual combat of the Civil War came in April of 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee. Bragg and the confederates lost this battle, but he was glorified for executing an assault on a Union position called the Hornets Nest. His partner in fighting, Albert Sidney Johnston died in the fighting on the same day that Bragg was promoted to full general. Steel Magnolias Character Analysis The main focus of the 1989 film Steel Magnolias is a relationship between a mother and her daughter and how that relationship touches and affects the lives of others. The film features some stellar acting. Sally Field plays the mother M Lynn Eatenton and Julia Roberts is her vivacious daughter, Shelby. The rest of the Eatenton family are Shelby s younger brothers, Tommy and Jonathan and their father Drum, played by Tom Skerritt. The supporting cast features Shirley MacLaine as Ouiser Boudreaux, the cranky neighbor with Olympia Dukakis as Ouiser s lifelong friend Claree. After her son, Jackson Latcherie Junior s first birthday party, M Lynn and Shelby head to Truvy s to get their hair done. She and M Lynn nonchalantly inform the others that the following day they are going in to the hospital so that M Lynn can give Shelby one of her kidneys. This behavior seemed to suit the definition of mutual pretense. They both knew they could die in surgery but act as if all is well or will soon be well (DeSpelder, 2015, p. 264). • 7. Banning Written Texts Should Not Baned Books Until recently, the trend of banning thousands of time honored books was routinely taking place in public libraries and schools across the country. Presently, many censored books are prevailing on library shelves and remaining in the hands of students. Without a doubt, banning a book entirely deprives people of being able to think differently and learn about new topics. However, censoring books is an exceptional way to allow those who are easily offended to read a written work without raising an eyebrow. A person will still comprehend the idea of a censored text, while not becoming insulted by it. Written texts should not be banned because people should be able to choose for themselves what they wish to read, but written texts should be censored for people who are sensitive and feel a text is too provocative or offensive for them. Banning a written text is wrong and unacceptable for numerous reasons. Banning a text limits people s point of view and keeps them in their comfort zone; people are able to choose for themselves what they want to read. Limiting society s point of view is a crime; people will forever be narrow minded and unable to form their own opinions, if this continues. For example, the article Book Banning Endangers Majority Values, states, Conservative materials on the issue of homosexuality are disappearing from the collection, or more often, never appearing in the first place (Harvey). Mao a Communist politician and Marxist Ideologist is most renowned for the unification of China and the creator of the People Republic of China. He governed as Chairman of the Communist Part of China for twenty seven years. Among his many accomplishment were his military feats, pushing a national self reliance and spurring China into the modern age. However, Mao s rule was not without its failures. He his criticized for being a ruthless dictator, responsible for harsh living conditions and the death of thousands of Chinese people. Never the less Mao had a great impact and is responsible for the nation and world power that China is today. Mao s rise to power was an interesting journey, because of his very humble beginnings. He was Born on December 26, 1893 into a peasant family in Shaoshan in the Hunan province of central China. From a young age, Mao showed a great intelligence and a desire for knowledge. He attended a local primary school at the age of eight, but received little education. To satisfy his appetite for learning Mao was an avid reader. By the time, he thirteen he was working the fields alongside his father, a grain farmer. Mao rejected the life his father had planned for him. Mao s great ambitions caused conflicts between him and his father. When he turned eighteen Mao left home for Changsha, the province capital, to enrolled in a secondary school. During this time, in 1911, revolution was growing against the monarchy. Mao joined the Revolutionary army and the nationalist party. In 1912, the monarchy was overthrown and the Republic of china was founded. Mao was caught up in the movement and the excitement of political and change sweeping the country. He reveled in the bright new future he saw for himself and his country (Schram, 1983). Mao became a teacher and upon graduating moved to Beijing where he found work as a library assistant at the Beijing university. Peter Singer Sacrifice With many families in the world starving and/ or dealing with diseases they don t know how to cure, but with money provided they would be able to get it under control at least a start. Then we have the people in the states who are more worried about the fact that they don t have the newest iPhone, which note, is not a life or death necessity. How are we to justify the fact that we are able to spend all the money we have on unnecessary items and the people in North Korean or parts in Africa can barely or many not even be able to afford food for the day to survive. As Peter Singer states We cannot dis criminate against someone merely because he is far away... When you ask yourself whether you re in the bind of being able to help starving kids or buying the newest up to date iPhone the first answer would be to donate, but many people see the relief organizations as a scam and wonder if they were to donate if the money would really go to the people they said they were going to. • 10. Mercedes Benz During the recession in 1990, Mercedes Benz struggled to adapt to changing markets. The luxury car market lost money for the first time in history in the 90 s. In 1993, there was a big sales slump in Mercedes Benz sales. In its search for additional market share, new segments, and new niches Mercedes started developing a range of new products. One of the most radical and largest of the new range of products is AAV (all activity vehicles). In order to be competitive in the market, Mercedes Benz needs to control costs and also meet the customer requirements at the same time. To achieve this goal, Mercedes Benz adapted target costing. Is Mercedes Benz heading in a right direction with target costing? Should they continue to use it? If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this, engineers determined that chassis quality was important. A fourth table was created to know the importance index of various function groups by using information from table1 and table 3. For example, the importance index for chassis is calculated by multiplying each row in table 3 with the relative percentage of each column of table1 that is (.50 x .41) + (.30 x .32) + (.10 x .18) + (.10 x .09) = .33. A final table was developed to calculate the target cost index for each functional group. The target cost index was calculated by dividing each important index (from table 4) with target cost (from table 2). For example, the importance index for Chassis is .33 and the target cost is 20% so the target cost index is 1.65. A function group with target cost index ration less than 1 indicates that it is a candidate for possible cost reduction. That is the ratio of cost to benefit is low. Options available are: Re evaluating assumptions or importance, reduce cost of existing design by working with supply partners. In general, 80% of the components and systems are provided by suppliers. So working with the suppliers for cost reduction is very critical for target costing. Through an iterative process, either the importance index or the target cost is adjusted to bring the target cost index to the desired level. • 11. Enzyme Catalysis And Enzyme Inhibition Essay Enzyme catalysis and enzyme inhibition are two essential biological mechanisms of organisms. In this experiment, WT AP and MBP AP enzyme are reacted with different concentrations of PNPP substrate in SpectrovVis time based assays. From the change in absorbance over time data, and the rates of the reactions are calculated, followed by the determination of the kinetic constants. Then, the MBP AP assays are repeated with two different concentrations of phosphate inhibitor and the kinetic constants of the uninhibited enzymes are compared to those of the inhibited enzymes. Results of the experiment show that the uninhibited WT AP and MBP AP enzymes yielded expected kinetic constants according to a reference. However, the inhibited enzymes produced kinetics constants that did not resemble a competitive inhibition, which was expected. Instead, the inhibitor is observed to be a mixed inhibitor. Introduction Enzymes are biological catalysts. Without them, biological reactions will not proceed in a reasonable rate. For example, without a series of digestive enzymes, it can take 20 years to digest a hamburger. Enzyme catalyzed reactions proceed through an ES complex, in which the substrate binds to the enzyme, gets transformed into the product, and releases into the environment. For a specific enzyme, only one or a few different substrate molecules can bind in the proper manner and produce a functional ES complex. The substrate must have a size, shape, and polarity compatible with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Cabanatuan Prisoner Of War Rescue Mission Running Estimate for the Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Rescue Mission The prisoners of the Cabanatuan Prison are in grave danger as the US 6th Army is advancing and the Japanese are in full retrograde; it is with this in mind that we are planning this raid. The prison camp is behind enemy lines, approximately 30 miles from Guimba, and currently flooded with the withdrawing Japanese forces. The camp is being used as a transit point as they retreat to the north and east. Daylight hours are when you find the largest troop concentrations; the current TTP is for Japanese forces to move during the night. Additionally, a projected force of about 800 Japanese with tanks and heavy weapons are templated at Cabu. The Terrain leading up to the Camp has vegetation and easily traversable roads; we have the support of the local population to help us in the recovery efforts. As the US rangers approach the camp, the last mile will be treacherous because all vegetation has been cleared and the forecasted moon and light data is not favorable. Once we start to evacuate the US Prisoners we will be faced with soldiers who have been on reduced rations for the last few years, medical estimates suggest that we can expect 7 10% (35/500) of the prisoners to be non ambulatory. The remainder will be debilitated from malnutrition and disease, making their movement slow at best. Abortion and the Privacy Amendment Essay Abortion and the Privacy Amendment A U.S. citizen s right to privacy was first discussed in an 1890 Harvard Law Review article in which two Boston lawyers, Louis Brandeis and Samuel Warren, defined it as the right to be let alone. Since then, the right to privacy has provided the basis for a stream of revolutionary and controversial constitutional interpretations by courts across the United States, culminating in the U.S. Supreme Court s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Although decisions have come down in favor of a right to privacy, they are largely based on a broad and disputed interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment. A Rutgers professor summarized the problems deriving from the right to privacy when he wrote, If human rights such as the right to be let alone are to enjoy the force of law, it seems desirable for the right to be spelled out carefully. The right to privacy is entirely a judicial interpretation and creation, meaning that it has little permanence or substance. Only a constitutional amendment can insure that one s privacy is an undisputed, inalienable right. So, why isn t this amendment before Congress? The first reason is that many policymakers believe that the right to privacy is too hard to define, and therefore cannot be worded into an amendment. However, the current vulnerability of a Fourteenth Amendment based right to privacy justifies an amendment which states simply that every American citizen possesses the basic right to personal privacy. If the amendment were a simple declaration of the right s existence, then the definition of privacy, like freedom of speech, would be left to the interpretation of the Court. This new amendment would negate Justice Rehnquist s strong position that the Fourteenth Amendment, an Amendment passed during Reconstruction to give citizenship to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
