Six Sigma Notes
Process Improvement
Process improvement is a fundamental to business management. If you run an operation (and all
businesses do, one way or another) you are reliant on two things: * The people you employ, their skills
and capabilities * The processes that you use, the way you do things
So the only ways an operation can perform better are to improve its processes or its people.
Changing processes (the way you do things) is something we all do everyday.
So what is all the Fuss About?
There is a lot of mystique associated with process improvement, lots of jargon and multiple
methodologies but process improvement is very easy. There are only three simple questions that you
need to get your mind around:
1. What is your purpose? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his report he discovered that the products with fewer non conformities (high quality) were the ones
that performed well after delivery to the customer. It was accepted by everyone but the challenge that
came in front of Motorola executives was to develop a solution to tackle this problem.
Mikel Harry having a doctorate from Arizona University worked with Bill Smith in developing a four
phase problem solving approach Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. A few years later Bob
Galvin launched a long term quality program called The Six Sigma Quality Program in Motorola.
Looking at the success of Motorola, many companies like Texas Instruments, Allied Signal etc started
using Six Sigma methodology to bring organization wide improvements.
In 1990 s Jack Welch launched Six Sigma in GE in a big way. He implemented Six Sigma in all areas
and ensured that the entire organization participates in the initiative. He changed the performance
incentives and made them based on individual s ability and enthusiasm to take part in Six Sigma
initiatives. He transformed GE to a state where Six Sigma had become the culture of the organization
and not just a methodology for brining organization wide improvements.
What is Six Sigma ? Definition of Six SigmaSix Sigma is not a mere methodology or a quality tool. It
is a philosophy i.e. a systematic way of thinking to solve quality problems. Six sigma involves

Cole Fluta Characteristics
When things get rough, a leader needs to be there to help a certain individual get through that
problem. I m proud of my talents and personality traits who make me who I am. If I had to pick one
trait that exemplifies Cole Fluta, it would be my ability to be a leader. One of my biggest passions is
baseball. I have always been good and strive to play at the next level. My whole life has always
consisted of baseball, so much to the point that I could not imagine my life without it. Baseball is such
a great game because it teaches you to fail, and how to deal with failure. It is actually known as the
game of failure, considering you fail more times than you succeed. However, most people that play
baseball expect to succeed more times than they

The Role Of Business In The Godfather
The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola introduces the lifestyle of an Italian American mobster family
in New York. This film shows an authentic perspective of mobs in the 40 s and 50 s. We see that
family business is very important in this film. But Michael Corleone put it best, It s not personal, it s
strictly business. This relationship between the Corleone Family and business is what shows up
multiple times throughout the movie. In the movie we see a difference between Vito and his son
Michael Corleone. Vito is the norm for what a superior leader should be. He is caring for his family
and also very strong when it comes to business. He is also a man of his word. On the flip side if you

Essay on A Comparison of Christian and Islamic...
A Comparison of Christian and Islamic Architecture in Spain
By the 6th century a Germanic tribe called the Visigoths, converts to Arian Christianity, had
established themselves as the aristocratic elite. The Christians built many monumental basilica plan
churches. The Santa Maria de Quintanilla de las Vinas, Burgos, Spain and San Juan de Banos de
Cerrato are two such churches that still remain today. In the beginning of the 8th century Islamic
Muslims conquered Spain and ended Visigothic rule. They constructed militaristic and religious
architecture including castles, watchtowers, rock castes, the Great Mosque, and the Red Palace. The
remaining Christians adopted some of the Islamic styles and soon built upon a new style that ended up

The Moors also built atalayas, or watchtowers and rock castles that served as part of the defense
system for the castle. The watchtowers were used as communication devices for castles that were great
distances apart. The watchtowers would signal the castle in case of an enemy attack by using smoke
and mirrors. They built rock castles, or small defense castles high on rocks, using the natural terrain to
the maximum effect. Since the rock castles were small they did not house many soldiers.
Another important Islamic site is situated in Cordoba, southern Spain, along the banks of Guadalquivir
river (the Great River). Cordoba served as the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba. Cordoba houses the
famous Great Mosque or Gran Mezquita, the largest mosque in the Western World. The interior of the
mosque consisted of a mirhab, a niche that separates the qibla wall from the others. The mirhab was
intentionally positioned facing Mecca for the faithful who prayed in that direction.
The mosque can be identified by its elaborate squinch supported domes. The Great Mosque of
Cordoba is one of the finest surviving examples of Umayyad architecture in Spain. The mosque has
marble capitals and columns in the hypostyle prayer hall. A person enters the hall through an open
courtyard called a sahn. Its famous horseshoe arches have an alternated pattern of pale stone and red
brick voussoirs

American Public Policy Chapter 1
Chapter one of American Public Policy, by B. Guy Peters, gives an in depth explanation of what
American public policy is. The definition that Peters gives of Public policy is the sum of government
activities whether pursued directly or through agents, as those activities have an influence on the lives
of citizens (4). This definition of public policy can be categorized into three levels that will make
differences in citizen s lives. The first level is policy choices. This level is when, decisions made by
politicians, civil servants, or other granted authority that are directed toward using public power to
affect the lives of the citizens (4). All of these choices that are made by the president, congressman, or
others can evolve into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first and most fundamental division of our government is federalism or the constitutional
allocation of governmental powers between the federal and state governments (24). Throughout the
years federalism has changed from what it was first described in the constitution. Contemporary
federalism is what is used in our modern government, and with the dilemmas that we have now a more
centralized government has been used, which was not planned when our government was created. The
second division is separation of powers. This division has a major impact on public policies. The
constitution distributes the powers of the federal government among three branches, each capable of
applying checks and balances to the other two (29). These three divisions can either work together,
which makes policymaking smooth and able to get things done, or they can veto each other which
makes policymaking harder and nothing gets done. The third division is subgovernments, or can also
be described as iron triangles. This division has three actors involved the first is interest groups, the
second is congressional committees or subcommittees, and the third is the administrative agency (31
33). These actors work off each other to help get policies implemented. These three division help
compose our public policies in the United States.
Our modern government is large and complicated. Some people do not trust our government, and

Sports Teams With Native American Mascots
Well Known Sports Teams with Native American Mascots Have you thought about the name or
mascot of your favorite sports team like the Chicago Blackhawks, the Washington Redskins, or even a
college team like Florida State Seminoles? These teams and more have been accused of being racist
towards Native Americans and their culture. However, many teams do not intentionally use their
mascots to discriminate against Natives. Instead, they represent Native American Tribes and use
names to respect the history of the tribal nation. Others would say that sports teams are just using
those native titles to gain more fans. Also, natives would argue that professional sports teams are
making fun of their tribes because of the decisions that the team has made about the way that the
native cultures are portrayed. People would say that teams with native mascots have lack of respect
towards Native Americans. However, many professional sports teams that are named after a native
tribe are respectful towards the native heritage in ways such as having a partnership with the tribe,
honoring a leader that the team was named after, and even helping out a tribe. Many areas of the world
have been affected because they were accused of having a racist mascot or team name. In the United
States many teams have respect for Native Americans. Counterpoint: Native American Themed Sports

Postcolonial Literature In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Postcolonial literature was written during the time period when European countries began colonizing
Africa on the premise that the Africans were savages and needed help to become more civilized. The
Europeans believed that they would achieve this by setting up governments similar to their own,
ignoring the ones the African tribes already had set up, and forcefully converting them to Christianity,
much to the Africans dismay. In response, the Africans could not do much to dispel the white people
from their lands, so some wrote postcolonial literature to display their grievances against the whites.
Chinua Achebe s, Things Fall Apart, is a great example. Within this postcolonial literature there are
numerous reasons as to why it is so, like decolonization struggles, appropriation of colonial language,
and colonization. In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe gives multiple examples of decolonization
struggles, or when the Igbo people fought against the white colonization. An early example in the
book would be when contact with Europeans first occurred. In the village of Abame, a white man
came riding on a bicycle (a never before seen object to the Africans). The people of Abame consulted
their gods on what to do with this strange man, and given the answer that he and his kind would cause
destruction, they killed him. Unfortunately, this little act of resistance was tiny compared to the wrath
of the Europeans. After his murder, other white men and their loyal Africans came to the

Social Class Divide As A Report By The Equality And Human...
Social divisions are one of, if not, the main political concerns within out society today. Policies have
been implemented to try and overcome these social issues but as will be discussed and argued in this
essay, it is clear that either current government legislation isn t working, or not enough work is being
done locally and in government to tackle the problem. This essay will discuss the social class divide as
a report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (2010) describes how people living in
poverty and who are looked at as members of the lower social class are targets of prejudice and
injustice in Scotland. I will focus on the inequalities that exist within these socially constructed
groups, such as wealth, health, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another study completed by the Scottish Government helps us to see what kind of people are living in
poverty, and contrary to what most people might assume. Most families that are living in poorer
circumstances contain at least one full time working adult. It has also been shown how families where
parents are unemployed are better off on benefits rather than earning minimum wage. This surely
shows that the current minimum wage is not doing the job it was implemented to do, as families aren t
being able to get by and maintain a good quality of life on these salaries. Supporting the argument that
the living wage being introduced should be a government priority. This would thereby close the gap
between the employed and unemployed in Scotland. Other government policies that are being
introduced are also said to be a cause to rising poverty levels in Scotland. For example, The Guardian
(2015) published an article describing how welfare cuts have put over 700,00 people into poverty
since 2012 in the UK. Scotland is also severely affected as shown by a statement from Nicola
Sturgeon (Left Foot Forward, 2015) discussing how the proposed cut on tax credits will have a
devastating affect on 20% of the most deprived families, losing 8% of their income. This leaves the
impression that rather than poverty being reduced,

Essay On Women In Athenian Religion
Since human civilization, women never had equality with men. Even in 2018, women are still fighting
for their rights. Women s freedom has always depended on the time period that a women was raised,
their culture, their religion and their society that they are apart of. A prime example that illustrates this
is comparing the women that lived in Athens during the classical age and women in North America
before they were given the right to vote.
There are many opinions about how athenian women were treated and respected during the classical
age. One thing that historians agree upon is that women had great power in religion. There were many
priestesses that contributed to the religion. It must be noted that religion was part of athenians

Those who didn t contribute to the religion played a large role as a wife and mother (O Neal 115).
They were not educated on how to read or write (O Neal). This may contribute to one of the reasons
why there were no female writers. Therefore, all information we have dated from the classical age
from Athens was of a man s view. It is agreed upon that the Athenian society was patriarchal.Women
were not allowed to take part in politics: In Athens,[...] women were legal nonentities whom the greek
excluded from any participation in the political or intellectual life of the city. (O Neal 117).
Regardless, women were acknowledged and appreciated when appropriate. For instance, a great leader
that represents women s influence in religion is Chrysis who was a priestess of Athena Polias. She is
known for making the Pythais festival beneficial for athens and Delphi. (Connelly 1). She was then
recognized for her greatness: The city also voted to grant her, as well as all her descendants, an
impressive series of rights and privileges: status as a special representative of athens to Delphi, the
right to consult the oracle, priority of trail, inviolability (asylia),

The Importance Of Checking Bets In Poker
Encountering tough decisions in poker is almost unavoidable, much like in real life, but thankfully, in
poker, a solemn trick helps you overcome some of them, if not all. Not only can you set a price for
yourself to see some other card with the help of a blocking bet in poker, but also overcome the odds of
a big bet from your opponent s end when playing by the river.
Blocking a bet in poker is the best option when your position in the hand is ambiguous. For instance,
consider that you are holding a pair of J and 9 2 2 is the flop that comes your way. You make the call
immediately after betting the call. Your opponent will be pressurized as soon as you make a blocking
bet, considering the fact that must be significantly smaller than the one by which the flop has been
raised (You must also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can easily fool your opponent by calling a rather small blocking bet when a suit s third or a
straight s forth (referred to as a scare card) appears on the turn or by the river. A blocking bet in poker
can come in handy when there s a chance of falling prey to a large bluff. You could always face a bet
big enough if you check, when your pot is driven by two pairs along with a scare card, which happens
to come by the river. The notion of bluffing you would not cross the minds of your opponents if you
manage to call a good enough blocking bet but you could face the heat at this point of the play
provided that you aren t raised in any way.
Making a smaller blocking bet in comparison to the ones made beforehand is a strict nono. It might so
happen that in an attempt scrape through cheaply, your opponent might sniff your intentions and play
possum till he fools you with a huge bluffing bet. Blocking bets seldom backfire, provided that they
aren t too small for the opponent to overlook. Otherwise these bets serve the purpose of retarding the
pace of the game at your opponents end.

Spotlight Movie Essay
The movie Spotlight is about a group of journalist who work at the Boston Globe. The film follows
the journalist as they investigate allegations against John Geoghan, a priest accused of molesting over
80 boys. During their investigation, the team of writers discover that there are over 80 more priests in
Boston who have molested children. The journalists are faced with opposition from the district
attorney s office, various victims, and also local newspapers; who they are competing with to tell the
story first. The Globe ends up publishing a story about the hypocrisy within the catholic church,
exposing many other organizations who protected the illegal activity within the Archdiocese.
There is a scene in the film where Mike, one of the journalist covering the case, returns to The Boston
Globe office to tell his colleagues about public letters he found. The letters, from the Archdiocese
addressed to John Geoghan, describe the crimes Geoghan committed. Instead of publishing the story
and letters immediately, Mike s boss, Robby, wants him to wait. This prompts arguably, the best

Summary Of Sandra Bem s The Lenses Of Gender
In Sandra Bem s The Lenses of Gender (1993), Bem s last focus is on how the concepts of
androcentrism and gender polarization create a gendered identity and form our society s institutions.
The most significant aspect to this piece was if men and women were different, and if so, how to
handle that difference in a society. It is very difficult to read this book as a women in America because
the concept of equality seems so easy to me. Treating everybody with the same respect is a natural
response for me, and to know that in this androcentric country I will not have enough time for my
children is heartbreaking. With that said, in the passage a valuable point is made, Pregnancy is the

Shearing forces acting on the vascular endothelium generated by blood flow causes a release of
calcium and subsequent cNOS (cyclic nitric oxide synthase) activation. Therefore, increases in blood
flow stimulate NO formation (flow dependent NO formation). Nitric oxide then causes independent
vasodilation by inhibiting vasoconstrictor influences of phenylephrine and alters its potency and
contractile effect. (Richard E. Klabunde. 2010) However, it has a short half life of only a few seconds.
In endothelial denuded preparations there was no production of nitric oxide and subsequently no flow
dependent vasodilation occurred. So, without endothelium a response of phenylephrine is not inhibited
and therefore it exhibits a higher potency(lower EC50) and efficacy. f) Account for the response to
acetylcholine in the two preparations. Which receptor(s) mediates the effects of acetylcholine in the
rings with and without endothelium? As shown in the table 2 the EC50 values of acetylcholine,
calculated from the dose response curve, significantly differ from each other. In fact, in endothelium
denuded rings acetylcholine caused no relaxation at all. Moreover, the prolonged exposure to
increasing concentrations had given some constriction. In human and animals 5 sub types of
muscarinic receptors (M1 M5) have been identified. In the particular case of human blood vessels, the
M3 subtype seems to be prevalent on endothelial cells as

Probability Concepts
Probability Concepts Introduction Probability concepts describe how uncertainty can be quantified,
and it measures the possibility or impossibility of occurrence of a given event. Probability is the
chance of a particular outcome, out of a number of times possible outcomes occurring for a certain
event. These concepts help in making inferences about situations and to quantify the uncertainty of
future events. It is, therefore, useful to review basic concepts and laws of probability to understand
how to manage uncertainty. Probability concepts help to interpret probabilities from two way pivot
tales. They are also useful in understanding probability, in statistical analysis, and apply the rules of
probability in the empirical data. Probability concepts Probability presents the intellectual machinery
to deal with uncertainty in business or personal life. With the concept of present value and courteous
evaluation skills, it becomes easy to deal with situations. Probabilities are broadly of two types,
subjective and objective probability. Subjective probability of an event is based on an educated guess,
pure intuition or expert opinion. Subjective probability is not based on statistically verified data, and it
is not extensively used in statistical analysis. According to subjective probability or personalistic
concept, the probability of an event is the degree of belief, or the degree of confidence one places on
the occurrence of an event according to the available

Essay about Thucydides vs Plato

The Peloponnesian War was the turning point in Athenian hegemony in Ancient Greece. It was fought
in 431 B.C. between the Delian League, led by Athens, and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta.
According to Thucydides, Athens imposing hegemonic status and its overwhelming quest for more
power made the Peloponnesian War and Athens s eventual fall from power inevitable. Despite the
Athenians having a far more superior navy and being considerably wealthier, they were defeated and
made subjects of Sparta. In this paper, I will discuss Thucydides and Socrates reasons for why ...

exposed by only attacking and defending the sea were they have an advantage. Pericles finishes of by
saying that Athens possesses all of Sparta s strengths and none of its weaknesses, and Athens must
fight so that future generations will have an Athens that is as good as ever. Pericles was known for
being a powerful speaker and in the end, the Athenians took his advice and war soon followed. A year
after war broke out, Pericles was once again invited to speak, this time at the customary public funeral
for those who had fallen in combat. What follows is arguably the best eulogy in history. For the
families of the fallen soldiers he states that they did not truly die, for famous men have the whole earth
as their memorial...not in any visible form but in people s hearts, [where] their memory abides and
grows. Of Athens he says, Future ages will wonder at us, as the present age wonders at us now.
Pericles is able to remain optimistic of Athens victory and

The Profession of Financial Planners
There are many different definitions for the profession of a financial planner. The services that
financial planners offer usually vary widely. Some financial planners look at every aspect of a client s
life and show the client how he or she can spend and save money more wisely. Other financial
planners show clients where and how to invest money ( Financial planners, 2008). Four of the major
specialty areas of financial planners include major life changes, personal finances, investments, and
business finances ( Financial planning association, 2012). Because there are so many types of
financial planners, the best definition would be anyone who provides financial advice, investment
management, or brokerage deals in exchange for money ( How ... Show more content on

Ultimately, the client is the one making the financial decisions. The financial planner is only there to
offer considerations and advice. Because of the nature of the advice, people looking for a financial
planner should do detailed research to find the right financial planner. If a planner claims he or she has
a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification, the client seeking advice should find where the
planner got the certification and call to see if the planner does in fact have that certification. The same
goes for a planner with a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification. Clients can go to the
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards site and see if that planner is listed ( Financial
planners, 2008). Clients do not want to hire a planner and later realize that the planner had no idea
what he or she was talking about. One should always be careful and thorough in researching a
financial planner.
The first question a potential client should ask is whether or not he or she needs a financial planner. If
a person has always been good at saving, investing, and managing money, he or she may not need a
financial planner. However, if a person has always had money issues or wants to start investing and
has no idea where to start, he or she should probably look into finding a financial planner. Someone
who has issues finding the right ways to spend or save money should find a financial planner who
specializes in personal finances. A person who

Re-Constructive Surgery And Aesthetic Surgery
Aesthetic and Re constructive Surgery
These are two surgical specialties that involve the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the
human body. Re constructive surgery aims to reconstruct a part of the body or improve its functioning
and Aesthetic surgery aims at improving the appearance of it.
Re constructive surgeons use these surgical techniques to manage increasingly complex wounds like
severe burns and to grow additional bone, skin or other tissues. This ranges from very simple
techniques such as primary closure and dressings to more complex skin grafts, tissue expansion and
free flaps. It provides the body with near perfect match in color and texture.
Aesthetic surgery procedures include Breast Reduction Surgery (which helps

How Textiles And Fashion Designers Have Contributed And...
SUSTAINABILITY ESSAY Explore and comment on how textiles and fashion designers have
contributed and approached fundamental issues within ecological design. INTRODUCTION
Ecological design is the sole responsibility of innovation and the creativity of products and objects
that will sustain our society and future societies. It is critical that we change the way sustainable
design is perceived and interpreted, by beginning to develop an understanding of the history and
journey from Green design into Sustainable design as well as looking at the direction in which we
would like it to progress to. This requires a comprehension of what these initial terms mean and how
this relates to their cultural, social and economic context, all of ... Show more content on

Finally, scrutinizing the information to form a conclusive paragraph reevaluating whether future
designers are considering these issues and whether a new sustainable design mentality is evolving.
GREEN, ECOLOGICAL OR SUSTAINABLE Concepts of ecological design are not necessarily new
or modern; it s the nature of re inventing and re visiting that the term is founded upon. But there are
differences between the terms, some more subtle than others. Typically Green design is associated
with getting the environmental message out there to the masses, focusing more on the environmental
issues and looking into plentiful natural resources. The key words being masses and plentiful, instead
of a less is more mentality that starts to be adopted in Ecological design this suggests a substitution of
product to fill that consumerism addiction. Green design became particularly popular in the 1980 s,
due to a foundation built by the environmental movement of the late 60 s and 70 s, which sparked a
growing awareness into environmental issues; it becomes a pinnacle point of where Ecological design
meets the mainstream. In an extract from Ecological Design: A new critique, Pauline Madge (1997,
p.44) informs us that because green encapsulated green politics, current environmental concerns, and
identified them with a specific colour, in an unprecedented way, green design arrived with a ready
made symbolism: green products, green packaging, and numerous books

The Human Of Human Trafficking Essay
Although slavery was abolished in 1865, the practice of it is still very alive today. Human trafficking,
a form of modern slavery, is the buying and selling of people, whether it s for forced labor or
commercial sex. Every year, thousands of adults and children, especially girls, are forced into the
endless trafficking ring. The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million
victims of human trafficking globally ( The Facts ). The human trafficking industry is a worldwide
network that is worth an estimated 150 billion dollars ( The Facts ). Millions of stories about victims
experiences can be found and read. Many of these victims are sucked into the world of human
trafficking because they are immigrants trying to escape to the U.S. and have debts to pay off once
they get there. Trafficking happens everywhere, from big city shopping centers, to small town
massage parlors. People are being captured, sold and transported across the world via various forms of
transportation at all times. With updated technology, it becomes easier and easier to buy and sell these
slaves and with this, the chances of being caught and punished is almost nothing. Many people think
slavery is dead; however, human trafficking is still alive and it needs to be stopped because many
people are being forced into involuntary sex and labor. Normally, human trafficking can be identified
as one of two different kinds of trafficking. The two kinds of trafficking are known as

Research Paper On Competitive Cheer
The world of competitive cheer has been a part of me for literally half of my life. This sport has
molded and instilled in me love, passion, determination, appreciation and loss with every practice and
competition. Every win and every loss happened for a reason. This is fate. This is destiny.
But what is destiny? What does it mean? Destiny is defined as your future or the pre ordained path of
your life. Sometimes you have to lose something to find your destiny. We, as a team, found ours this
past year.
Destiny was always smiling, making everyone laugh and had an enthusiastic spirit. Her smile was
contagious every time she paraded into the gym. She didn t like seeing anyone sad or cheerless.
Destiny was not only a teammate, she was a close friend. She was young, beautiful and taken from the
world too early. At this point, I knew we were more than just a team. We were now a family joined by
tragedy. We no longer thought of just ourselves, but each other. No one wanted to lose anyone else.
It was decided that we would dedicate our entire season to her. The devotion she had for the sport

and to make sure you hit a perfect routine at competitions. You appreciate the wins and hate the losses.
This sport has taught me all of these things. But because of Destiny, I have learned these things in a

I don t take anything for granted. I appreciate my coaches and teachers more because of the time they

Free Verse Techniques Conveying Structure An Analysis of Spring By Edna St. Vincent Millay
Composed in free verse, the poem Spring by Edna St. Vincent Millay contains many poetic elements
that create a feeling of structure throughout. As free verse challenges the conventions of writing, so
too, does St. Vincent Millay s interpretation of Spring challenge societies conventional beliefs
associated with the season. Millay uses various different poetic elements of writing as effective
alternatives to conventional methods of prose such as use of quatrain, and an adherence to metric and
rhyme schemes. Elevating itself from such conventions, Millay s poem incorporates the use of
personification, thought provoking questions, repetition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This assumption is reinforced in the latter part of the poem, when Millay personifies April once more
unsatisfied with the seasons return, stating April Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.
(17 18) By again referring to the season of Spring as April, (1,17) as well as associating the month
with human characteristics and activities such as being an idiot, babbling, and strewing flowers, (18)
the personification of Spring becomes even more clear. From this perspective, just as Spring cannot
appease Millay with beauty or prospect of flowers, one cannot truly mend a broken relationship with
words and gifts alone. The actions of babbling and strewing (18) are associated with ignorance, thus
one can assume Millay is annoyed with the month of Spring, as people who receive flowers are most
likely doing so because they have been annoyed or hurt by their significant other. Just as Spring
continually returns, creating life ignorant of death, an annoying lover returns to a damaged heart,
ignorant to the absence of love. Millay uses free verse elements, more specifically thought provoking
questions, to enhance the overall poetic feeling of Spring . Beginning with the proposal of a question,
To what purpose, April, do you return again? (1) Millay blatantly challenges the reason behind natural
order. Millay again does this when stating, It is

Women in Sports 19th and 20th Century
Jen Pearlstein December 2, 2010 Kin 305 Women in Sports 19th and 20th Century Women s
participation in sports has changed over the centuries. In ancient times, men dominated societies.
Women were viewed as the caretaker, a provider for life. Women who did participate were criticized
and were thought of as threatening. In 18th century America, women were considered inferior to men
because of the belief that women are the weaker sex. A woman s purpose in life was to take care of the
house, children, and husband. When they did want to participate in recreational sport, they need to be
able to negotiate with men and with other women because societies did not make it easy for women to
participate. For example, there was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to the formation of organizations like the national committee on Women s Sports, to provide
rules and standards for athletic participation for women and girls. The AAU, Amateur Athletic Union,
which was under the control of men, took control over women s athletics. This stirred up conflict
amongst physical educators and other leaders like, Lou Henry Hoover, Blanche Thrilling, and Agnes
Wayman who opposed the AAU control and wanted women to govern the organization not men. They
were against it because only women could understand the psychological, motivational, and
physiological need for women. (Costa Guthrie, 91) Lou Henry Hoover was the leader of the National
Amateur Athletic Federation, which was an organization that supported sport for everyone. She
wanted to have a separate Women s division because of the different ideal standards of women s sport;
and so was formed the women s division of the NAAF. This organization set standards for women s
competition and encouraged them to participate in both school and non school events. There still was
a belief that women were too frail physically and mentally to participate in intense competition like
Olympics. However, in 1932, Mildred Babe Didrikson disproved this belief by winning two Olympic
gold medals and one silver medal in track and field. She had also won every golf tournament she
competed in. Her great victories influenced the acceptance of

Hunger Vs Hunger
Indeed, being homeless is dire, but hunger can kill. In the United States, hunger is not as serious as
other countries. Starvation in America is not major, if it exists. An article explains hunger in the
United States, Today more than ever, many people receive food assistance. For most, the need is brief
and serves as a helping hand between jobs or in times of disaster or dire circumstances. For others, the
need is ongoing ( What ). Although hungry people subsist, help for them is available. This article also
explains what hunger typically looks like in America, Being anxious for a meal to be served, rushing
food lines, eating all their food at mealtimes, extreme hunger on Monday mornings, extreme thinness
or puffy, swollen skin, excess absences, hyperactive, irritable, anxious, withdrawn, distressed, . . .
sickness, . . . and lack of food resources ( What ). Starvation and hunger have two different meanings.
Hungry people don t get enough to eat, but starving people are burning more energy than they take in.
Starving people have little to no food all of the time, and are slowly wasting away. Few people, if any,
are starving in America. Malnutrition is a result of being hungry. Malnutrition means someone is not
getting enough proper nutrition. As of 2017, 190.7 million people, or 14.5 percent of the population in
India are malnourished. Undernourishment in children has serious effects. In 2017, 38.4 percent of
India s children population under age five are stunted. On

Private Development and Corporate Funding to Fight Shoreline Erosion
At its simplest, shoreline erosion is the result of the combination of processes, both natural and
manmade, by which shoreline and beaches are damaged or lost. For this discussion, wetlands are also
included. There is an ongoing debate over the best way by which to preserve beaches, shorelines, and
wetlands. Conservation extremists argue that limiting or restricting land use, and restoring damaged
property with tax money represents the most prudent answer to shoreline erosion. Included in this
position is the inherent role of government intervention to preserve America s shoreline. There are
many problems with the conservation position, and many advantages to ... Show more content on

Many, if not most, of our coastal environment concerns stem from population growth pressure
(Rhinehart, 1997). These trends make it clear that the hodgepodge of environmental and zoning laws
throughout the country many at odds with each other are unable to cope with the pressures brought to
bear on America s shoreline resources. Only the consistently well reasoned principles of private
industry can answer the growing needs of shoreline, beach, and water resource management.
There are many wise and sensible voices pointing out the failures and shortcomings of the
conservation movement. Washington State Representative Joyce Mulliken, R Ephrata, has recently
announced the proposal of legislation to repeal shoreline regulations approved by the Washington
Department of Ecology (DOE). The regulations would prohibit the use of all lands within 200 feet of a
shoreline, including commercial development, farming, ranching, and other essential activities. Rep.
Mulliken points out those state s most extreme environmental lobbyists created these rules, without
concern for legitimate business interests. Further, these regulations constitute an unfunded mandate
that would cost millions to local taxpayers. Regulations such as the ones imposed on the people of
Washington State represent a direct threat to the state s farmers, ranchers, dairy producers, and other
agricultural industries. They also constitute a direct threat to private property

There is not a single work along English History that could have been more determinant and
indispensable than Bede s Ecclesiastical History. By describing the story of the English people
through their experience of Christianity he became our intermediary with the world of Anglo Saxon
England and their believes. Therefore, in what follows an attempt will be made to describe the main
contributions of Bede s Ecclesiastical History as a source for early English history.
As a Christian monk and teacher, Bede could not have carried out this English history without
emphasizing the importance of the Christian conversion that took place in England before the VIII
century. It covers both the conversion of the kingdoms and the creation of the ... Show more content

Bede wrote a well organized story, after having contrasted sources and texts and after having
coordinated all the pieces of information that came to his hands. The result was an account of kings
names, kingdoms foundations and legends that constitute a good study of the culture of the time.
Together with this important history account we can find another relevant contribution of Bede s
Ecclesiastical History, it has to do with the chronological system included in his work. Until that
moment there were various dating systems that could create a clear confusion when trying to
determine the exact date of a specific event. So what Bede realised was that all these systems had to
be synchronized and he did it in the already existing system of the Anno Domini. In spite of the fact
that he made some reasonable mistakes in setting dates, this achievement became a very reliable
method of dating.
But all these contributions could not have taken place without all the sources that Bede used in order
to retail this history of the English People. These sources include witnesses who remembered or knew
facts, manuscripts borrowed directly from Rome, several church records including Saints lives and
Papal letters, in short, a wide range of evidences that could give a trustworthy basis to all his accounts.
Still, despite all these true evidences used by Bede, some of the stories that he related were not
entirely true and at the same time, they

The Case Of Medieval Mystic Christina Of Mirabilis
Life or death: what does one choose? Most people would agree to remain alive without much
hesitation. In the case of Medieval Mystic Christina of Mirabilis, Christina also makes the hasty
decision to continue living on Earth hoping to appease God even though her decision ultimately leads
Christina to push her body to terrifying limits. In Elizabeth Alvilda Petroff s anthology titled Medieval
Women s Visionary Literature, Thomas de Cantimpré s The Life of Christina of St. Trond, Called
Christina Mirabilis depicts Christina s miraculous resurrection from the dead during her funeral
procession at church. Before returning to her body on Earth, Christina is given the ultimate choice of
her fate. De Cantimpre describes, either [Christina] [will] remain with [God] now, or return to [her]
body and suffer the punishments of an immortal soul in a mortal body which, however, will remain
unharmed. Thus by the pains [she] will suffer, [she] will deliver all those souls in purgatory whom
[she] pitied (184 185). Striving to please God, Christina fully agrees to his terrifying terms of
physically suffering on Earth so male sinners in hell may be forgiven. God s terms for Christina
Mirabilis to be able to continue living on Earth as a human after she is resurrected come across as
highly discriminatory for the way Christina must take on the sufferings of male sinners even though
she does not commit these sins herself, learn to endure her gift of mystical smells, which intensities

Biblical Allusions In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s One Hundred...
Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez grew up enthralled with tales of magic and fantasy, he
enjoyed them so much so that he would dedicate his life to the creation of stories for others to enjoy.
His passion for storytelling and use of magical realism would lead him to create his career defining
novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude. On the surface it may appear a story that spans the timeline of
the Buendia Clan and their intertwined fates but, through the use of biblical allusions throughout the
novel his simple tale of a family becomes almost a retelling of the bible with a modern twist. Marquez
expertly weaves in references to the unexplored paradise of the Garden of Eden, Satan s temptation

Adam within the Book of Genesis is depicted as a man who cares deeply for the paradise he has been
granted by god and aims to maintain the gift he was endowed. Jose himself takes responsibility to
make sure that the village he creates is one that thrives and remains for many years to come. Both
display respect towards the gift they have been given as well the responsibility to maintain it.
Although the intentions of both Jose and Adam are pure of heart towards the creation of their
paradises they both eventually fall victim to their own devices, a subject that will discussed in the
subsequent paragraph.
Marquez continues his biblical references with the introduction of Melquíades, the gypsy who brings
knowledge to the village of Macondo. He acquires various technologies during his travels and shows
them to Macondo s citizens, whenever he visits during his journey. He enthralls them all on various
occasions with magnifying glasses, alchemy and telescopes, the latter of which leads him to say to a
crowd of onlookers Science has eliminated distance, Melquíades proclaimed (Marquez 4). While it
may appear to the reader that Melquíades is blessing and introduces a necessity in science to Macondo
he sets in motion the downfall of the Buendias as well as the village. The allusion Marquez uses for
Melquíades indicates the nefarious nature of the character himself. God warns Adam of the of the
temptation that would present itself later on.

Throughout the course of the Holocaust there were major rebellions at 3 of the 6 death camps (death
camps were concentration camps that carried out mass killings under the SS). Treblinka, Sobibor and
Auschwitz Birkenau all had major uprising by inmates. Although the methods used by inmates in each
case vary, they all share a common theme: they were caused by desperation from the imminent
presence of death.
The uprising at the Treblinka camp was triggered by a series of German military defeats bringing the
camp closer to liberation by allied forces. The Jewish prisoners knew that if the allies came close to
the camp the SS would liquidate all of the inmates and destroy the camp to hide any evidence of the
atrocities committed within. After careful planning and the discovery and suicide of the original
resistance leader, an escape was made. 300 inmates broke free of the barbed wire fences as resistance
fighters attacked the guards. During the SS lead manhunt that followed, 200 of the 300 escapees ...

help the patient prevent from having the abnormally narrowed arteries again. The stent platform is an
expandable mesh like tube. The polymer coated on the stent has one to more than three layers and take

DAPT had to have long enough time after implanting the stent into arteries to prevent stent
thrombosis.Premature discontinuation of anticoagulation therapy, also known as premature
discontinuation of DAPT, means discontinuation of DAPT for less than three months for sirolimus
eluting stents (SES) and shorter than six months for paclitaxel eluting stents (PES). The outcome of
the premature discontinuation of DAPT can increase the risk of stent thrombosis, myocardial
infarction, and death. Bare metal stents (BMS) do not relate to blood clotting issues after stent
implantation such as stent thrombosis. Therefore, it can be said that BMS do not need anti clotting
therapies. On the contrary, drug eluting stents have been involved with late stent thrombosis. To
prevent this issue, optimal conditions of several factors should be considered. Those factors can be
stent position and expansion, the number of stents, stent size, stent design, patient and lesion, and
premature discontinuation of antiplatelet medicines. Revascularization can be defined that produce the
healthy blood circulation to a body part again under the situation carrying depletion of oxygen to an
organ. The terminology, revascularization, is usually used by surgical

Mr Pitt Case Study
Relevant Facts
Mr. Pitt was arrested on the front yard of his home while mowing the yard. The area being mowed
contained a city owned fire hydrant and a city owned tree. The strip was between the street and the
sidewalk. Other residents sought city permission to remove or alter the trees on the strip. Officers
Scully and Mulder noticed Mr. Pitt mowing this area of land and talking to himself. Officers exited the
cruiser and approached Mr. Pitt from behind. They noticed a weapon belt but no weapon. While Mr.
Pitt mowed, he turned and faced officers. At this time the officers noticed an indistinct object hanging
from the weapon belt. As Mr. Pitt left the mower in compliance with officer s orders, the officers
observed a shining, freshly sharpened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The defendant s mother owned the property, where he removed a gun from his belt and threw it under
a bush as he fled from approaching police. The court found that a public easement gives the right to
the public of freedom of use and should be enjoyed without any infringing action by the owner of the
freeholding land. Marrow at 11. In this case, the interaction occurred on a public easement. The
interaction occurred on the strip between the sidewalk and street. The strip includes a city owned fire
hydrant and a tree that was paid for and owned by the city. It is necessary that a resident seek
permission to cut down any tree. The land is a public easement because it has city owned trees and fire
hydrants. The police officers were on the public easement in the interaction with Mr. Pitt. Mr. Pitt may
argue that, because he takes care of the land and is the owner of the freeholding land, it is not a public
easement. However, the city has access to the land and Mr. Pitt must comply with the public s right to
freedom of use of the easement. The court would find that the interaction between the officers and Mr.
Pitt occurred on a public

Womanhood in Thicker than Water Essay
Womanhood in Thicker than Water
A woman s sexual discovery, or her menstruation, or her domesticity, or the development of her body,
or a realization of an age old philosophy, is perhaps, the catalyst to becoming a conventional woman.
Regardless, civilization may hint to some rite of passage, but is it clear as to what it is that marks this
new title of womanhood? The answer may seem blurred in the complexity of Kathryn Harrison s
character Isabel, in her novel Thicker Than Water. Isabel s transformation #8212;sometimes
overlooked metamorphosis #8212;is thwarted by her lonely search in discovering herself and her
home, while yearning for her mother s love. Isabel s character becomes preoccupied with the idea that
she is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her mother did not breast feed her, did not hold her much, and remained altogether distant. Isabel
recounts one of her mother s earliest rejections, as she watches her mother perform her feminine
rituals in preparation for a date: I knew what heaven it was to hug those legs #8230;and press my face
into the dark sweet trough between her thighs, impenetrable blind, where no one could separate me
from the smell of my mother. She didn t like me to hug her legs #8230;she pried me off impatiently
(33). Isabel was banned from the connection, soon to be replaced by a man (any man), and was forced
to know her own nonexistence in her mother s emotional life. And often it was excused by its physical
repercussions: Many times she had pushed me off her lap complaining that my sitting there would
cause varicose veins (28). Isabel s presence was against her mother s own youth, and femininity. In
essence, Isabel was unauthorized maternal intimacy. And while Isabel wanted some kind of corporeal
interaction with her mother, she did not receive it positively. She did not authorize a particular kind of
intimacy either: molestation. When Isabel was an infant #8212;vulnerable, unable to fight and protest
#8212;her mother violates her with objects. She remembers in a sort of dream sequence, Beats me, or
pinch me. Introduce my genitals which have been so many times deflowered by objects of ordinary
household function #8212;why do I scream when I see a wooden spoon? No one

The second division is separation of powers. This division has a major impact on public policies. The constitution distributes the powers of the federal government among three branches, each capable of applying checks and balances to the other two (29). These three divisions can either work together, which makes policymaking smooth and able to get things done, or they can veto each other which makes policymaking harder and nothing gets done. • 11. Postcolonial Literature In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Postcolonial literature was written during the time period when European countries began colonizing Africa on the premise that the Africans were savages and needed help to become more civilized. The Europeans believed that they would achieve this by setting up governments similar to their own, ignoring the ones the African tribes already had set up, and forcefully converting them to Christianity, much to the Africans dismay. In response, the Africans could not do much to dispel the white people from their lands, so some wrote postcolonial literature to display their grievances against the whites. Chinua Achebe s, Things Fall Apart, is a great example. Within this postcolonial literature there are numerous reasons as to why it is so, like decolonization struggles, appropriation of colonial language, and colonization. In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe gives multiple examples of decolonization struggles, or when the Igbo people fought against the white colonization. An early example in the book would be when contact with Europeans first occurred. In the village of Abame, a white man came riding on a bicycle (a never before seen object to the Africans). The people of Abame consulted their gods on what to do with this strange man, and given the answer that he and his kind would cause destruction, they killed him. Another study completed by the Scottish Government helps us to see what kind of people are living in poverty, and contrary to what most people might assume. Most families that are living in poorer circumstances contain at least one full time working adult. It has also been shown how families where parents are unemployed are better off on benefits rather than earning minimum wage. This surely shows that the current minimum wage is not doing the job it was implemented to do, as families aren t being able to get by and maintain a good quality of life on these salaries. Supporting the argument that the living wage being introduced should be a government priority. This would thereby close the gap between the employed and unemployed in Scotland. Other government policies that are being introduced are also said to be a cause to rising poverty levels in Scotland. For example, The Guardian (2015) published an article describing how welfare cuts have put over 700,00 people into poverty since 2012 in the UK. Scotland is also severely affected as shown by a statement from Nicola Sturgeon (Left Foot Forward, 2015) discussing how the proposed cut on tax credits will have a devastating affect on 20% of the most deprived families, losing 8% of their income. Shearing forces acting on the vascular endothelium generated by blood flow causes a release of calcium and subsequent cNOS (cyclic nitric oxide synthase) activation. Therefore, increases in blood flow stimulate NO formation (flow dependent NO formation). Nitric oxide then causes independent vasodilation by inhibiting vasoconstrictor influences of phenylephrine and alters its potency and contractile effect. (Richard E. Klabunde. 2010) However, it has a short half life of only a few seconds. In endothelial denuded preparations there was no production of nitric oxide and subsequently no flow dependent vasodilation occurred. So, without endothelium a response of phenylephrine is not inhibited and therefore it exhibits a higher potency(lower EC50) and efficacy. f) Account for the response to acetylcholine in the two preparations. Probability Concepts Probability Concepts Introduction Probability concepts describe how uncertainty can be quantified, and it measures the possibility or impossibility of occurrence of a given event. Probability is the chance of a particular outcome, out of a number of times possible outcomes occurring for a certain event. These concepts help in making inferences about situations and to quantify the uncertainty of future events. It is, therefore, useful to review basic concepts and laws of probability to understand how to manage uncertainty. Probability concepts help to interpret probabilities from two way pivot tales. They are also useful in understanding probability, in statistical analysis, and apply the rules of probability in the empirical data. Probability concepts Probability presents the intellectual machinery to deal with uncertainty in business or personal life. With the concept of present value and courteous evaluation skills, it becomes easy to deal with situations. Probabilities are broadly of two types, subjective and objective probability. Subjective probability of an event is based on an educated guess, pure intuition or expert opinion. Subjective probability is not based on statistically verified data, and it is not extensively used in statistical analysis. If a person has always been good at saving, investing, and managing money, he or she may not need a financial planner. However, if a person has always had money issues or wants to start investing and has no idea where to start, he or she should probably look into finding a financial planner. SUSTAINABILITY ESSAY Explore and comment on how textiles and fashion designers have contributed and approached fundamental issues within ecological design. INTRODUCTION Ecological design is the sole responsibility of innovation and the creativity of products and objects that will sustain our society and future societies. It is critical that we change the way sustainable design is perceived and interpreted, by beginning to develop an understanding of the history and journey from Green design into Sustainable design as well as looking at the direction in which we would like it to progress to. GREEN, ECOLOGICAL OR SUSTAINABLE Concepts of ecological design are not necessarily new or modern; it s the nature of re inventing and re visiting that the term is founded upon. But there are differences between the terms, some more subtle than others. Typically Green design is associated with getting the environmental message out there to the masses, focusing more on the environmental issues and looking into plentiful natural resources. The key words being masses and plentiful, instead of a less is more mentality that starts to be adopted in Ecological design this suggests a substitution of product to fill that consumerism addiction. Green design became particularly popular in the 1980 s, due to a foundation built by the environmental movement of the late 60 s and 70 s, which sparked a growing awareness into environmental issues; it becomes a pinnacle point of where Ecological design meets the mainstream. In an extract from Ecological Design: A new critique, Pauline Madge (1997, p.44) informs us that because green encapsulated green politics, current environmental concerns, and identified them with a specific colour, in an unprecedented way, green design arrived with a ready made symbolism: green products, green packaging, and numerous books ... Human trafficking, a form of modern slavery, is the buying and selling of people, whether it s for forced labor or commercial sex. Every year, thousands of adults and children, especially girls, are forced into the endless trafficking ring. The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally ( The Facts ). The human trafficking industry is a worldwide network that is worth an estimated 150 billion dollars ( The Facts ). Millions of stories about victims experiences can be found and read. Many of these victims are sucked into the world of human trafficking because they are immigrants trying to escape to the U.S. and have debts to pay off once they get there. Trafficking happens everywhere, from big city shopping centers, to small town massage parlors. People are being captured, sold and transported across the world via various forms of transportation at all times. With updated technology, it becomes easier and easier to buy and sell these slaves and with this, the chances of being caught and punished is almost nothing. Many people think slavery is dead; however, human trafficking is still alive and it needs to be stopped because many people are being forced into involuntary sex and labor. At this point, I knew we were more than just a team. We were now a family joined by tragedy. We no longer thought of just ourselves, but each other. No one wanted to lose anyone else. Free Verse Techniques Conveying Structure An Analysis of Spring By Edna St. Vincent Millay Composed in free verse, the poem Spring by Edna St. Vincent Millay contains many poetic elements that create a feeling of structure throughout. As free verse challenges the conventions of writing, so too, does St. Vincent Millay s interpretation of Spring challenge societies conventional beliefs associated with the season. This assumption is reinforced in the latter part of the poem, when Millay personifies April once more unsatisfied with the seasons return, stating April Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers. (17 18) By again referring to the season of Spring as April, (1,17) as well as associating the month with human characteristics and activities such as being an idiot, babbling, and strewing flowers, (18) the personification of Spring becomes even more clear. From this perspective, just as Spring cannot appease Millay with beauty or prospect of flowers, one cannot truly mend a broken relationship with words and gifts alone. The actions of babbling and strewing (18) are associated with ignorance, thus one can assume Millay is annoyed with the month of Spring, as people who receive flowers are most likely doing so because they have been annoyed or hurt by their significant other. Just as Spring continually returns, creating life ignorant of death, an annoying lover returns to a damaged heart, ignorant to the absence of love. Millay uses free verse elements, more specifically thought provoking questions, to enhance the overall poetic feeling of Spring . Beginning with the proposal of a question, To what purpose, April, do you return again? (1) Millay blatantly challenges the reason behind natural order. Millay again does this when stating, It is ... In ancient times, men dominated societies. Women were viewed as the caretaker, a provider for life. Women who did participate were criticized and were thought of as threatening. In 18th century America, women were considered inferior to men because of the belief that women are the weaker sex. A woman s purpose in life was to take care of the house, children, and husband. When they did want to participate in recreational sport, they need to be able to negotiate with men and with other women because societies did not make it easy for women to participate. They were against it because only women could understand the psychological, motivational, and physiological need for women. (Costa Guthrie, 91) Lou Henry Hoover was the leader of the National Amateur Athletic Federation, which was an organization that supported sport for everyone. She wanted to have a separate Women s division because of the different ideal standards of women s sport; and so was formed the women s division of the NAAF. An article explains hunger in the United States, Today more than ever, many people receive food assistance. For most, the need is brief and serves as a helping hand between jobs or in times of disaster or dire circumstances. For others, the need is ongoing ( What ). Although hungry people subsist, help for them is available. This article also explains what hunger typically looks like in America, Being anxious for a meal to be served, rushing food lines, eating all their food at mealtimes, extreme hunger on Monday mornings, extreme thinness or puffy, swollen skin, excess absences, hyperactive, irritable, anxious, withdrawn, distressed, . . . sickness, . . . and lack of food resources ( What ). Starvation and hunger have two different meanings. Hungry people don t get enough to eat, but starving people are burning more energy than they take in. Starving people have little to no food all of the time, and are slowly wasting away. Few people, if any, are starving in America. Malnutrition is a result of being hungry. Bede wrote a well organized story, after having contrasted sources and texts and after having coordinated all the pieces of information that came to his hands. The result was an account of kings names, kingdoms foundations and legends that constitute a good study of the culture of the time. Together with this important history account we can find another relevant contribution of Bede s Ecclesiastical History, it has to do with the chronological system included in his work. Until that moment there were various dating systems that could create a clear confusion when trying to determine the exact date of a specific event. So what Bede realised was that all these systems had to be synchronized and he did it in the already existing system of the Anno Domini. In spite of the fact that he made some reasonable mistakes in setting dates, this achievement became a very reliable method of dating. But all these contributions could not have taken place without all the sources that Bede used in order to retail this history of the English People. These sources include witnesses who remembered or knew facts, manuscripts borrowed directly from Rome, several church records including Saints lives and Papal letters, in short, a wide range of evidences that could give a trustworthy basis to all his accounts. In the case of Medieval Mystic Christina of Mirabilis, Christina also makes the hasty decision to continue living on Earth hoping to appease God even though her decision ultimately leads Christina to push her body to terrifying limits. In Elizabeth Alvilda Petroff s anthology titled Medieval Women s Visionary Literature, Thomas de Cantimpré s The Life of Christina of St. Trond, Called Christina Mirabilis depicts Christina s miraculous resurrection from the dead during her funeral procession at church. Before returning to her body on Earth, Christina is given the ultimate choice of her fate. Thus by the pains [she] will suffer, [she] will deliver all those souls in purgatory whom [she] pitied (184 185). Striving to please God, Christina fully agrees to his terrifying terms of physically suffering on Earth so male sinners in hell may be forgiven.
