The French Food Waste Bill Essay
Trevino and Nelson define an ethical dilemma as a situation where two or more right values are in
conflict (p. 39). When differing opinions from two separate parties meet often solutions can only
benefit one group, where both cannot be satisfied. A relevant business story with an ethical dilemma is
the french food waste bill, that has come into law earlier this year. This is an illustration of how one
ethical value has overcome another in order for government to deal with the national food waste. In
this report we will be analysing the decisions and actions of the main actors Arash Derambarsh and
Guillaume Garot and how their ethical view s affected the government s actions on edible food waste.
In the early 2000 s, Derambarsh began his law degree and found it increasingly difficult to feed
himself and it was very common for students who had only four hundred euros a month after rent to
find themselves hungry. 2010, Derambarsh started to grow awareness towards hunger in France, so he
started campaigning against the wastage of food in his local area (Froelich, 2015). He now represents
the Paris Commune of Courbevoie and believes that edible food being wasted is, scandalous and
absurd , when there are still hungry citizens in France needing this such as the homeless, poor and
unemployed (Froelich, 2015). Derambarsh often was insulted and abused for having an idealistic
mindset over this ethical dilemma. Although his main focus was helping the people, because

Senior Dance Concert Review
The Senior Dance concert, 9 o clock showing consisted of seven dance pieces. The first piece was
called Heavy Dew , this piece was comprised of a six person group dance. The backdrop was a blue
shading. The sounds in this piece were waterfalls, and rainforest sounds. The movements made me
feel as though the dancers were creatures in a wilderness or a rainforest, it was fast paced. For the first
part of the performance the group of girls are dancing in front of the audience together, then as the
music turns to be more serious and intense, there is just one dancer on the stage. Then, once all the
dancers come back onto the stage, the music starts to soften and slow down again and the lights begin
to dim for the remainder of the performance. The second performance was a solo act given the title of
Love You, Possess Me. The title says it all. This was a very dark piece. The dancer was wearing an all
black lace dress. She gave off an impression of being a black widow. The movements were mostly on
the floor. The music was dim, and made me feel as though I was in a thriller film. The look on the
performer s face made me feel as though she was distant from everyone else, tragic, and apprehensive.
I enjoyed this piece the most out of all of them. The third piece was titled Unclothing The Elephant. It
consisted of seven performers. The music being played appeared to be a violin. All of the performers
were dressed in black and white attire. For majority of the performance the

French entry doors can make the front of your house look very grand and very elegant. However, there
are also drawbacks to having French doors. They tend to be made of a lot of glass, making it easy for
people to peer into your home. Here are a few different types of window film you can apply to your
French doors.
Plain Colored Window Film
The simplest way to cover up your French doors is to apply a solid colored window film to your
doors. A solid colored window film will make it more difficult for people to look through your
windows. From the outside, it will look like you have colored glass on your doors.
On the inside, the light that filters into your house will have a slight colored tint to it. You will still be

Essay On The Klu Klux Klan
The Klu Klux Klan committed many terrible acts during reconstruction. They murdered and tortured
many people of color and any whites who allied with them. I believe that the K.K.K. was able to
commit these acts without punishment for many reasons. One reason is the amount of violence during
the reconstruction period. Another reason is that the government was in a weakened state. Lastly they
could commit these acts by using justifications for their actions. The reconstruction time period was
full of violence, making it much easier for the K.K.K to get away with their actions. The civil war had
just ended and America was in place of chaos when the Klu Klux Klan rose up. The violence was
stemmed the racist views that thrived in the south. In 1886, there was a riot between past black
soldiers and white people. White police even assisted in the violent rampages. Many people, from all
classes, joined the KKK during this time to support white supremacy. The Klan punished newly freed
men for many reasons, including not being cooperative with whites, ... Show more content on

The government being in a state of reconstruction and recovery after Lincoln s death made them
unable to focus on the Klan s actions. The Klan also induced fear from the government by terrorizing
and murdering any southern republicans. An example is when they mercilessly beat a man by the
name of Abram Colby, just to get him to stop being a radical republican. Some of the members of the
KKK were very powerful men in the towns they resided, for example doctors, lawyers, etc. These
were trusted people that easily brought their family and friends into the Klan. The government did not
know which people were involved in the KKK and it would have taken a lot of valuable recourses that
they did not have after the war, to find out. The governments weakened state made it much easier for
the Klan to get away with their violent and unjust

Safe Drinking Water In Bangladesh Essay
Safe drinking water is essential for healthy life, and United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared
safe and clean drinking water as a human right essential to the full enjoyment of life [1]. Moreover,
the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene for health and development has been reflected in the
outcomes of a series of international policy forums [1]. These have also included health and water
oriented conferences, but most importantly in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) adopted by
the General Assembly of the UN in 2000. The UN General Assembly declared the period from 2005 to
2015 as the International Decade for Action, Water for Life [1]. Access to safe drinking water is
important as a health and development issue at national, regional and local levels. Bangladesh, a
developing country from South Asian (SA) region also takes several steps for ensuring sanitation and
safe drinking water facilities among the people. As a result, Bangladesh has made great progress in
this sector. The government also claimed that it has achieved the MDG indicator of ensuring safe
drinking water for 85% people of the country. According to different demographic and health surveys,
the percentage of using improved sources of drinking water is about 98% (reported in the latest two
surveys Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) 2012 13 and Bangladesh Demographic and Health
Survey (BDHS) 2014) [2,3]. But, this achievement statistics are overlooking the shortcomings. The

Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s Ibsen
Henrik Ibsen is a very common and almost an essential person if you where to judge him by his plays.
Ibsen plays are a symbolic representation of how to deal with the reality of social issues. Social issues
can be manipulated and used as a powerful political weapon. During this period writers would
commonly form information in order to gain the attention and support of the public. Henrik Ibsen
understood human nature, he played a crucial role in exploring and illuminating society by uniting
honesty and the reality of life, through his work. Writing as a psychologist, Ibsen could quickly sway
others when it came to understanding his creative work. His relationship with human life formed an
intense social and abstract perspective, which is the essence of art. Ibsen s work as a writer mainly
symbolized a long writing style that reflection on people s need to live in a more advance mental way.
Ibsen wrote about the contradiction between ability and the aspiration between will and possibility.
Ibsen commonly uses a great deal of desperation in his work. Within the darkness of his work the
conflict mainly surrounded humanity and the individual tragedy of one s true self. Ibsen would use
symbols that represented how the social issues within his work would be part of reality. His plays
allowed a combination of the feminist social issues and reality. The subjects were expressed in both

The Minerals and Chemicals within Glass
Majority of glass used in our daily glass from jars, bottles, drinking glass and even windows are called
soda lime glass since it uses soda ashes in its production. Glass in general is mainly made out of sand.
In fact, sand alone can be fused to produce glass but it requires a high temperature which is estimated
about 1700°C for the sand to completely melt. However, to mass produce glass, other chemical and
mineral are added to lower the melting temperature to ease the production.
Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3) also known as soda ash is mixed with sand to produce a product of 75%
silica (SiO2) and 25% sodium oxide (Na2O). This mixture will melt and fuse at a much lower
temperature of 800°C. Unfortunately, the glass produced with this composition is water soluble which
is also known as water glass. This is not suitable for glass bottle since it need to contain water so, to
stabilise the glass, other chemical substance is mixed into the composition such as calcium oxide
(CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO). The chemical mixtures are obtained by the addition of lime stone
which produce a pure and inert glass.
The glass produced is originally colourless and transparent. Addition of different chemicals into the
production of the glass results in different colour like green blue or brown. Most of glass bottle
produced have similar composition of chemicals as their ingredients. The composition of chemicals
are 70% 74% SiO2 (silica) 12% 16% Na2O (sodium oxide) 5% 11% CaO (calcium oxide)

The Travelling Salesman Problem
Travelling Salesman Problem
Institution
Name
Introduction
A salesman is required to visit all the cities with a known distance between every two cities keeping in
mind that the cities have to be visited once. The problem facing the salesman is to determine the
shortest possible route the salesman has to use to visit the towns just once and goes back to the
original city.
The Travelling Salesman Problem first statement was made by a Viennese mathematician Karl
Menger. It brought a connection and relation with the definition of the curve length proposed by
Menger that stated that the stretch of a curves distance can be defined as the lower limit upper bound
of the groups of all numbers that can be contained by taking each group of points of the curve and
producing the shortest length of the polygonal graph. This problem is called the messenger problem.
The Travelling Salesman Problem can be stated as where a network has n cities or nodes, and one of
the nodes (node 1) is the origin and the cost of travelling which include the ... Show more content on

The Analysis Of Financial Statements
The analysis of financial statements is the critical process that is aimed at assessing the present and
past financial position and the results of operations that are carried out in a company. The primary
objective of this analysis is to establish the best possible estimates and predictions about future results
and conditions that the company can reach. It is based on two primary pieces of knowledge, where the
first is the in depth knowledge of the accounting model and the second would be the domain of the
tools used for the financial analysis, which enables the identification and analysis of the relationship
between financial and operational factors. For that reason, the financial analysis is a working tool
widely used by the directors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A viable alternative to solve this problem is based on providing the company the analytical tools
necessary to include indicators of liquidity, solvency, and profitability, but also serve as support for the
process of administrative decisions of the enterprise. A company s financial information will assess the
operation of the business and provide the real financial condition of the entity as well as the efficiency
of the management. The financial statements of a company facilitate efficient and effective decision
making. The financial analysis of a corporation helps assess the financial growth of the enterprise.
Effective decision making leads to proper management of company resources.
BUSINESS ANALYSIS
Unfortunately, the company does not have an efficient financial model that can provide the financial
information needed to measure its economic indicators. Currently, the company only has some
accounting reports, provided by the accounting department of the enterprise, such as purchase and

Romantic Love In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins
North American media is known in many forms to include a romantic subplot between the main
protagonist and a major side character, underneath the main morals and plot the story conveys. These
romances in media, particularly films and novels, are uncreative and dissatisfying. They distract from
major events within the narrative and divert the reader s attention away from the author s message and
morals they are trying to impart. Also, the undermining of female characters is a major issue faced in
the writing of these romances into stories. Many narratives, though, may originally have good
intentions with the insertion of a relationship, but society s glamorisation of romantic love holds them
on a pedestal until they ve turned stale, so in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The romance in a fiction becomes the main question in social outlets and frequent questions like Team
Peeta or Team Gale from The Hunger Games fans arise. As a society we hypersexualise and
romanticise our media, so a story like The Hunger Games theme is ironically missed. This trilogy,
written by Suzanne Collins, revolves around Katniss and her society s yearly ritual to force children to
kill each other in a so called entertaining way, with media coverage. Katniss too, falls in love with a
boy, and they manage to survive a reaping together. The characters are glamorised by the media within
the book, ignoring the deaths of children, as Suzanne Collins tries to hint to real society what the
media does. Immediately, the story took off and the love triangle popularised within the book became
real, and media outlets ask fans the same question, ignoring the ideologies the author provided. The
relationship within this narrative stood for an important point within the plot of the story, negating
previous arguments and not in itself disappointing, yet media distorts it, turning it into a dissatisfying
love triangle. The major fault in media s coverage of these relationships is it falls in line with both
aforementioned faults of romance in novels, how it clouds the author s morals and intentions of
writing, and with this engrossment in a single point, the media doesn t only demean the female
characters, but any character, as the only involvement of characters in discussion is who they are in a
relationship

Selma Book Vs Movie Essay
As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart
of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them
new self respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage they did not know they had . (King) The
conflicts met between the Civil Rights Movement protesters and the white people of the South were
incredibly gruesome. While peace and equality for African Americans was the driving force of the
protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force of the white people. In the March Trilogy
Books, written by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, and in the movie Selma, written by Paul Webb and
directed by Ava DuVernay, we are given a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twenty one children were injured and four young girls lost their lives that day. [Figure 1]
Lewis asked, How could our quest for human dignity spawn such evil? (3:16). Another example that
they both showed in common was the tension portrayed at the time of the first attempt to march across
the Edmond Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Lewis and Hosea Williams led the marchers. As they
were walking across the bridge, Williams asked Lewis, Can you swim? (Lewis and Aydin 3:197) as if
to insinuate that going over the bridge may be what was to come, not knowing what they were to face
at the end of the bridge. Where a crowd of resisters was waiting for them. Even though the marchers
faced violent opposition and met with conflict, they continued their demonstrations. The books and
the movie displayed controversy throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the
bridge, when the marchers were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as
the troopers barged towards them, making this day known as Bloody Sunday , March 7, 1965. When
asked for his comments in the movie by the press after the merciless attack on the marchers, King says
While rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with

Home Depot Present Value Essay
To calculate the present value for Home Depot we must evaluate and understand their 10 k statement.
We were given an interest rate of 8% and to evaluate the capital leases from 2015 2019 and then
calculate the present value (please see excel spreadsheet for more detail). It was determined that the
total present value throughout 2015 2019 is equal to $425.78 (in millions). This is an important figure
and should be closely monitored and reviewed for future decisions, as it could greatly affect the
company s ability to make future payments. If the risk of the company changes the obviously the
present value will change as well. For example, if the interest rate were to change from 8% to 5% the
total present value would increase to $460.69 (in millions). If we were to use the example above with
a 5% interest rate, and a present value of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Net present value and the risk have a strong relation with each other. With inappropriate assessment of
risk, one cannot arrive at a correct or near correct net present value. Net present value of any asset or
investment is the present worth of that asset or investment based on analysis of future returns using
appropriate discounting rate. A risk is an uncertainly attached to the future cash flows
(efinancemanagement.com). A lower risk means an increase in the company s present value and future
values. In the examples provided so far if the interest rate were to stay at 8% the future value of the
company would be $488.62 (in millions) compared to a 5% interest rate and a future value of $587.97
(in millions). That is a difference of $99.35 (in millions) for potential profit when the company is sold.
In present value terms when the rate is 8% the present value is $425.78 (in millions). compared to 5%
and $460.69 (in millions). This proving that lowering the risk lowers the interest rate which then
increases the present value of the company as well as the future value of the

How Did Amelia Bloomer Take A Stand In Women s Rights
Taking a stand in women s rights (Amelia Bloomer) Imagine, you didn t have the right to vote, to get
your own money, or to get a good education just because you weren t a specific gender or color ?
What would you do about it ? Would you just let these things make you who you are, or would you
fight for your rights. More than 70 years ago people weren t treated the way we are now. If you were a

Descriptive Essay About Sea Animals
It was dark outside. Clouds loomed over the skies as I walked into the enormous colorful building.
Blazing rays of LED lights shone through the entrance s translucent windows. Brightness and gleams
engulfed my vision like a wildfire. My eyes blink, trying to focus where I was walking. As I paced
myself through the crowded corridors of the large hallway trying to find my group of friends, I could
see murals of sea animals everywhere and signs directing where each exhibit was. Animated and
overjoyed, I pranced to the first exhibit where the baby sand sharks were. They were extraordinary,
swimming around their tank but sadly not able to leave their confined space. Their tank only allowed
them to swim continuously in circles. Although animals in captivity tend to live longer than animals in
the wild, it is depressing to mull over how they were stripped of their freedom. There was nowhere to
escape when housed in such small enclosures.
While exploring the intriguing domain, I stared wide eyed in the dim rooms, my face was illuminated
by the glowing tanks while fish and other marine life gawked at me. It was as if they wanted me to
join them or aid them to escape their aquatic prison. It was depressing to be so close to them, to be
only separated by glass, but unable to save them. Many animals could have been violently captured
from their homes with no hope of ever being reunited with their true families. The stress of hearing to
kids crying, people clapping, loud music,

fixed regime I the first 24 hours to prevent breakthrough withdrawal symptoms. If the prn doses are
utilised a review of the fixed regimen doses are needed after 24 hours. The doses will need to increase
to take into account the prn utilisation.
Elderly patients
To minimize adverse effects associated with benzodiazepines (e.g. over sedation, confusion, and
ataxia) in the elderly it is important to bear in mind the start low and go slow rule. In general,
recommended to use half the dose of the benzodiazepine.
Patients with liver failure
The metabolism of Diazepam is impaired in liver disease, but it may be used cautiously in mild to
moderate impairment (reduce the dose by 50%).
For patients with severe or acute liver impairment, use lorazepam as an alternative as its metabolism is
not impaired in liver disease.

Without the Belgians, the Congo became financially unstable and lost whatever instruction and
guidance the Belgians thought to give whether it be any degree of education, which was then thrust
onto the Africans to teach themselves, or political stability. While the political stability was not in the
Congo s favor, it was still more beneficial than the leader the Congo had after Lumumba. The loss of
stability led to the Congo being considered lesser than other countries and led to other countries, the
United States of America, for example, shunning the Congolese. The financial instability also led to
the Congo being unable to communicate effectively with other countries the sister countries of Africa
or the countries abroad because the people of the Congo (or Zaire, as it was called under Mobutu, the
outsider that took the place of Lumumba) could not afford to use what little finances they had for
anything apart from basic survival necessities. This was alienating in nature, but exile also proved to

Henry Roe Vs Henry Wade
In 1971, a case was filed by Norma Mccorvey, known more commonly as Jane
Roe, against Henry Wade. Henry Wade was the district attorney of Dallas county from
1951 to 1987. Jane filed a case against him because he enforced a law prohibiting abortion unless it
risks the life of the mother (CNN, 2017). Texas had enacted a criminal abortion statute in 1854
prevent women from getting legal abortions. Since it had been slightly modified once and since
remained the same. It stated that abortions were not permitted unless medical advice was provided to
abort in order to save the life of the mother. It had been challenged several times, but Roe Vs. Wade
was the case that changed the preexisting ban on abortion (Justia,2016).
Jane roe was a single pregnant women that resided in Dallas county. She sought a declaratory
judgment that the Texas criminal abortion statutes were unconstitutional.
Roe claimed that she was unwed and pregnant and wanted to terminate her pregnancy in a safe way
done by trained professionals. She stated that Texan law on abortion was unconstitutional because it
went against her right of personal privacy laid out by the first, fourth, fifth, ninth, and fourteenth
amendments. She also stated that she was suing not only on behalf of herself but all texan women
(Justia, 2016). SHe believed that all women should have the right to chose to abort. She filed this

The Mexican Cartel On A Global Scale
The Mexican Cartel on a Global scale
The Mexican drug cartel is a major actor on the world scene. Even though it is not seen this way by
the general public, those who pay attention know how far their reach is. The Mexican cartel has
expanded. There seems to be no sign of them slowing. They have the perfect storm of money, military
backing, political connections and Public intimidation. Their empire is growing by the minute.
Unfortunately most people have not given these ruthless criminals the attention they deserve. They
have direct impact on people around the world. This paper will explain various aspects the groups and
explain why more light needs to be shed on them To begin, one major point to start with is there is
more than one cartel. Fox news reports that there are somewhere between sixty and eighty small and
medium cartels. Business Insider lists seven major cartels. They go as follows the Juarez cartel, The
knights of Templar, The Gulf, the Tijuana Cartel, The Beltran Leyva Organization and the two most
notorious the Los Zetas and the Sinaloa Cartel. The Los Zetas are known for their cruelty. Murder,
kidnapping, and torture are routine for them. They often use these tactics to intimidate the public. The
Sinaloa cartel, is known for its money and power. They have monopolized drug trafficking in Chicago
and the leader is so powerful he mysteriously escaped prison. Each cartel is different however they all
have the basic goal to gain monetary assets. To expand, Los

Similarities Between Canada And America
When God created the world, he didn t draw a line between Canada and America (Marianne

With that said, it is evident that through history, the United States of America had a drastic influence
on our Canadian values, traditions, and customs contributing to our evolution. Although Canada and
America are divided by a distinct border, they are united by their symbiotic relationship. Without a
doubt, we are closer than ever to our neighbors down South, and their influence on our economy,

United States, it continues to grow. For example, large companies such as Google, Apple, IBM, and

Furthermore, our bond with the United States has seen the development of innovative military
affiliations. For instance, NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) was founded in
1981, and it is a combined organization of the United States and Canada that provides an aerospace

of aerospace security to protect the civilians of North America. Lastly, together as two countries, we

Canada work jointly to develop perspective evolutionary medical treatments and cures to fight against

changing what happened? Did someone or a group of people that could were have been more careful

t say anything? An why did the Japanese choose Pearl Harbor of all place to strike an attack, was their

were all hit by torpedoes. During the attack, many of our pilots noted the brave efforts they put in, in

The US was stunned and enraged by the attack. President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it a day of
infamy. The next day, December 8, 1941, the US declared war on Japan. The Japanese had planned
out this attack well before it occurred. Working hard and discussing how to do it. There had already
been in tension between the US and Japan before this whole thing occurred. They just weren t sure

Essay On Seven Lenses
Seven Lenses Paper A farm that features agritourism was supposed to be visited, and then analyzed
using the Seven lenses that was provided by the client on Moodle. The farm that was visited by the
writer exhibited all aspects of the seven lenses almost perfectly. This paper will list and explain how
the farm that was visited during the summer exhibited the seven lenses. The farm that was visited over
the summer was located in Bethlehem, Connecticut. In 1912 Thomas Marchukaitis arrived from
Lithuania in July, with his wife and children, to avoid being drafted into the Czar s army. Thomas
Marchukaitis originally worked at a brass manufacturing factory in Waterbury, Connecticut, but did
not like the city life. So, in 1915. Marchukaitis quit his job and bought 114 acres of farmland for
$2,500, which became the original March Farms. In the beginning, the farm only produced apples,
vegetables, eggs, and milk. During the farm s peak in 1972, it had 100 cows, 600 chickens, apples,
peaches, cherries, plums, pears, and blueberries. For the ecology and the farm lens, March Farms tries
to be as conscientious to the surrounding environment as much as possible. For instance, they
described the horrors that came with using pesticide. None of their products are sprayed with
pesticides, and when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advantage Of Direct Method
I realized that students must be taught things that they cannot learn on their own at home and that are
the hardest for them, they must learn to speak, and to achieve this goal I think the Direct Method is the
best for several reasons. The Direct Method gets a great response among the beginners who start to
speak a foreign language from the very beginning. Intermediate and advanced students like the
method as well; they appreciate primarily the fact that the DM method helps them transform theory
into practice . To them, the pace of the lesson is very important since it enables them to repeat things
as well as learn a lot of new words and phrases.
The Direct Method is also known as the Oral or Natural method. It s based on the active involvement

There are various situations that can not be dramatized or acted out. Especially with intermediate and
advanced language material, dramatization in various cases becomes impossible, and wastes a lot of
time because some teachers are excessively rigorous in applying the Direct Method and eliminate the
native language completely. This can result in non learning or very little learning. The student s
dissatisfaction in the long run causes and invalidates the classroom situation. In spite of these
objections, the Direct Method has still been used and defended rigorously by various teachers in
different parts of the world. It is true that the Direct Method is superior to the grammar translation
method in many ways. It has brought in to language teaching a clear purpose, and more important, a
technique both of which have been tremendous importance and benefit. We are not now at that point
to reject the Direct Method as a hole, and it is not wise to ignore the advantages which it has
introduced. It is superior to several of the older methods because it has emphasized the importance of
language contact, and it is not only by the Direct Methodists that the idea of learning a foreign
language for communication has been put forward. (king

Environmental Consequences Of Offshore Oil Drilling
Offshore oil drilling is a controversial topic because when oil spills, it does extensive amounts of
damage to the environment. Countries capable of mining oil in the ocean reap the economic benefits
in addition to reducing their dependency on external oil. While it is uncontroversial that offshore
drilling is a massive boon for those countries, the environmental consequences of a spill also affect the
economic welfare of nearby residents. Oil contaminates animals through a process called
biomagnification, where chemicals progressively become more detrimental to the animals the higher
they are on the food chain. When oil spills into the ocean, it impairs the growth of native species and
deteriorates the ecosystem. As a result, the livelihood of people in the tourist industry, fisherman, and
shrimpers is crippled and may take decades to recover. Presuming that a country has a coast it can use
for drilling, excavating oil from depths of up to a mile is nowhere near effortless. In addition to
common oilrig accidents, fires and spills, there are a plethora of problems that oil riggers can
encounter including severe weather storms (like hurricanes) and inexperience in the remote oceans
depths. Oilrigs are being used even deeper in the ocean creating new environmental and engineering
problems. Dr. Joseph A. Pratt of the University of Houston, highlights the problems riggers
encountered when drilling for oil in the Canadian sector of the Beaufort Sea; conditions were

Why I Want To Pursue A Master Of Science Degree
Education is not preparation for life; Education is life for itself.
These are the words of John Dewey, which have led an everlasting impression on my mind. It relates
to the idea of lifelong learning, and the knowledge that education is much more than what lies within
the curriculum. Whenever I pause by to reflect on my ken of knowledge, I feel that how little I have
learnt and that an enormous, unknown and fascinating wealth of knowledge lies before me, yet to be
explored. Education is like an edifice based on strong rudiments and strengthened by the fundamentals
and practical skills acquired during one s lifetime. So my main goal is to design the next generation
innovations in field rather than being just a user of existing technologies and findings. So I intend to
pursue Master of Science degree in Automotive software Engineering at your university as the first
step towards obtaining a PHD.
Nothing is Impossible in Life has always been a motivating force behind all my achievements. I
strongly believe that enjoy what we do and having the passion to pursue, we can ultimately achieve
our destination, no matter how much efforts are needed. My inherent urge and interest to pursue
engineering emanates from an instinctive inclination for Physics and Mathematics since my schooling.
From early childhood, I was very captivated with electronic appliances around me. I would ask my
parents about their principle of working. I always tried to find out what basic elements and

The Bastard Out Of Carolina Analysis
The film The Bastard out of Carolina tells the story of Ruth Anne Boatwright, called Bone (Huston,
1996). Bone is born out of wedlock in the 1950 s, a time when being illegitimate is a serious stigma.
Bone s birth certificate declares her illegitimate, which marks her for life as an outcast. Her mother,
Anney, 15 years old at the time of Bone s birth, soon marries a good, hardworking man named Lyle
and has another daughter. However, Lyle dies in a car accident. Anney then marries Glen, who treats
Bone well at first and takes her out to do fun things. But when her brother dies at birth, Glen begins to
beat her and molest her regularly. Bone s life becomes a living nightmare as she endures constant
sexual and physical abuse. When her aunt spots the abuse, she tells Bone s uncles, who beat Glen
nearly to death. Bone and her mother, however, continue to return to Glen each time Glen promises
not to abuse Bone again. The film ends with Bone freeing herself from Glen, but watching her mother
leave with him. Her mother s last act of love is to give Bone a new birth certificate without the
stigmatizing illegitimate stamped across it. Bone s final words in the film are of love for her ... Show

them or stop protecting them. The family bond between Bone and Glen, formed in the first few years
of Anney and Glen s marriage, is changed but not broken by the abuse (Huston, 2016). Eventually,
Bone does want to be free of the abuse, but she continues to protect Glen, possibly from the common
tendency among children to not want anyone they love to get in trouble . Additionally, she forgives her
mother for abandoning her. Her final words indicate that she perceives the trauma as normal and her
mother s actions of staying with an abusive man as even

A leader is cultivated and groomed to make the best potential shine through the grimmest picture with
decisiveness. A committed leader will prioritize essential needs and wants, allowing focused results to
steer the mission. A leader embodies the Air Force in every aspect and relays those traits to
subordinates through tough love and determination. A firm hold on the task at hand can make or break
the efforts put forth to complete it. My time in the military has shown me that I have a need for order
and discipline. I want to instill this trait into my subordinates and affectively give them the tools to
succeed and complete the mission both home and abroad. I lead from the front and never leave those
willing to strive for betterment. My plan involves completing my degree and obtaining the knowledge
level needed to effectively take care of and train my replacements in true values, pride in ownership
and family values. A stepping stone is that anyone can learn from anyone, even if it s what not to do. I
challenge myself to right all the wrong styles of leadership that I have experienced throughout my
career and be that exception to the policy/good ole boy club members. The Air Force can change with
assistance from those willing to make the change. I have given blood for my countries ideals and
know I will give my every effort to help produce the most capable and experience airmen for the
purpose set by our CINC. I

Anna Karenina Analysis
Anna Karenina is a story told in three locations: the two Russian major cities of Moscow and St.
Petersburg and the rural countryside. Each location holds special connotations that are reflected in
events and characters that live there. Tolstoy, a fan of the countryside himself, uses the lives of Levin
and, to a lesser extent, Kitty to illustrate the moral superiority of the countryside over its more urban
counterparts. On the other end of the spectrum is St. Petersburg, a city of superficiality and
immorality; the negative implications of this location is portrayed through the lives and tragic
downfalls of St. Petersburg natives and inhabitants Anna and Vronsky. Finally, the city of Moscow is
portrayed as an area in between the two extremes. Inferior to the glorious countryside but superior to
the sinful St. Petersburg, Moscow is a romantic city. It is a city of wavering morality and short lived
dreams; it is portrayed through the lives of the Oblonsky family, and to a lesser extent, Anna and
Vronsky s temporary bliss together. The three locations in Anna Karenina the moral countryside,
immoral St. Petersburg, and ambiguous Moscow are vital in developing the novel and its characters by
adding another subtle layer to one s understanding of the text. Anna Karenina s treatment of the
countryside serves to illustrate its moral superiority, as shown with the character of Levin and, to some
extent, his wife Kitty. Straightaway, when the reader first meets Levin, a strong

Symptoms And Treatment Of Phobias
Fear is an aspect of life people deal with every day. Being afraid is part of what makes people human.
Fear that grows with adulthood or causes people to have different conduct is known as a phobia. A
phobia can elicit physical or emotional discomfort when it comes to the fear of an object or situation
that can be treated by therapy or medication in most cases, or untreatable in others. There are four
subtypes of specific phobias known as: blood injection injury, animal, situational, and natural
environment. Sometimes treatment of phobias can be difficult to determine because of the wide range
of phobias that exist. There has not been an adequate amount of research conducted on phobias which
makes it difficult to study or comprehend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A research group stated Specific phobia is one of the most prevalent disorders in the general
population and yet it has received limited attention from researchers in the growing field of
neuroscience (Caseras et al., 2010). The need for understanding phobias is imperative for the people
who are suffering from the symptoms that challenge their daily life. One study has done research on
links between the phobias and neurobiological substrates. The authors state:
Moreover the degree of provoked anxiety by phobia relevant images was strongly associated with
activity in the dorsal ACC and the anterior insula in the SP phobics but not in the BII phobics. These
differences in blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) response could suggest the existence of distinct
neurobiological substrates associated with specific phobia subtypes, challenging the view of specific
phobia as a unitary entity (Caseras et al., 2010).
This study may prove that there could be a cure to phobic reactions if they can find the cause of the
phobia. These studies of the dynamics of the brain could be revolutionary in the world of phobia
diagnosis and treatment of patients.
There are excessive amounts of phobias that have been medically determined. About 4.4% percent of
the adult population in the USA has one or more phobias which will mostly persist for years and
become chronic; complete remissions without

Sierra Leone Civil War Journal Analysis
This journal article examines the important personal experiences of boys who became child soldiers in
the Sierra Leone civil war. Through, the lens of the structuration theory, the authors of the article
examined how these boys were transformed into the armed forces. In addition, the authors discuss
some of the challenges that child soldiers encounter during rehabilitation. The first author s main point
introduces the structuralist theory. Incorporating the ideas of Anthony Giddens the authors emphasize
that structuration rejects the concepts of structure and agency and instead connects these two ideas by
looking at individual interactions in a particular event and location. Using this theoretical framework

Not Guilty In Plato s Apology
In his influential dialogue Apology , Plato employs Socrates pleading not guilty to his allegations in
his trial to argue that the men deemed as wise, are actually not as wise as they appear to be. Searching
further into this text will reveal how Plato intended for Apology to have a deeper meaning. Socrates
questions the wise politicians, the philosophers, and the crafters of their knowledge and wisdom to
discover that they themselves do not comprehend what their work is about. In Apology Socrates states
When I began to talk with him, I could not help thinking, that he was not really wise, although he was
thought wise by many, and still wiser by himself; and thereupon I tried to explain to him that he
thought himself wise, but was not really

Review of Herbert Schlossberg s Book, Idols for...
Writing in the late 1980s, Herbert Schlossberg provides a thorough analysis of current trends in
American culture in his book Idols for Destruction: The Conflict of Christian Faith and American
Culture. Many scholars have examined Western civilization and concluded that we are in its declining
years. Some use analogies of space: rise, zenith, and fall; others use analogies of biology: birth,
maturity, and death. Schlossberg refuses to see all cultures as following these patterns, but rather
attempts to use the concept of judgment, based on the biblical example of the prophets: With their
silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction (Hos. 8:4). If the idols are destroyed, and we
return to worship the true God, we can expect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In dealing with idols of humanity and money, Schlossberg emphasizes the overarching role of envy in
Western societies. Envy is often the cause of what he calls resentiment (a term originating with
Nietzsche) a festering mental condition that wishes injury to someone whose possessions or qualities
are envied. Where a Christian ethic once encouraged an equality of opportunity, which necessarily
produces unequal results, resentiment desires an equality of results. So the gap between the rich and
the poor is seen as an evil in itself, and poverty is redefined from the lack of food or other necessities
to the lack of an affluent lifestyle. When combined with materialism, which implies that wealth can be
the only measure for quality of life, resentiment leads to all sorts of redistributive policies: welfare,
government induced inflation, credit assistance, corporate bailouts, trade regulations, etc. However,
these policies are deceptive, since they never actually help the poor, but instead make them dependent,
while at the same time enriching the people in charge of the redistribution. They have become a legal
form of stealing and one in which the majority of people in Western society gladly participate. Idols of
nature include the material and the immaterial. Materialism claims that matter is all

William Shaw s Pygmalion On The Myth Of Pygmalion And...
At the end of Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion, Eliza finds herself as a new and empowered woman.
Women in the 20th century are looked down upon. This is what happened to Eliza Doolittle. When
Eliza meets a man named Higgins, he makes assumptions about her intelligence based on her speech.
Higgins is wrong and fails to see that Eliza is one of the most intelligent characters in the play. Eliza s
ability to pick up speech and learn is high which is unusual for a woman of her social standing. In
some cases, Eliza is better at picking up speech patterns and learning than Higgins. This is rare based
on the fact that Eliza raised herself with no parental figures and no one to teach her. Eliza s
empowerment comes from the ignorance of the higher classes about the lower classes intelligence.
Bernard Shaw bases his play Pygmalion on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. In the original
Pygmalion myth, a sculptor creates a sculpture named Galatea, the two fall in love. In the first four
acts, we see Shaw follow this structure. A girl transforms from a flower girl to a lady and we get
shown a male lead who seems to fit the part of Pygmalion. The audience would expect the two to get
to together.
Although Shaw follows this pattern, he ends the play in the complete opposite of our expectations.
This heightens Eliza s triumph and could frustrate the audience. With minor changes into the final
scene, Pygmalion can get turned into a romance. Instead, Eliza has asserted her independence and

The Asian Development Bank ( Adb ) For The Reconstruction...
After the World War II, the United States led the European countries to establish the World Bank
(IBRD), which helped the reconstruction of Europe. And in the meanwhile, the United States led
Japan, China and some other Asian countries to establish the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the
reconstruction of Asia after the war. IBRD, ADB and IMF (International Monetary Fund), etc. occupy
the monopolistic and predominant status all around the world for several decades. In the other words,
they dedicate the economic and the political tendency all over the world. However, there are many
problems and unreasonable terms for the debit and credit, investment, financing and so on, which are
related to the political reasons, exist in IBRD, ADB and IMF. These restricts influence the
development of those Third World countries severely. Along with some other reasons and details, in
October 2013, China put forward suggestions to establish Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
(AIIB), a multilateral development organization with 100 billion authorized capital, which supports
the infrastructure development for Asian countries especially, and the headquarter is set up in Beijing,
China. This initiative bring huge competitions among the United States, China and Japan. After
October 2014, the competitions spread and expand, in which some European countries are involved as
well. The establishment of AIIB is not only the economic development and breakthrough, but also

  • 2. The French Food Waste Bill Essay Trevino and Nelson define an ethical dilemma as a situation where two or more right values are in conflict (p. 39). When differing opinions from two separate parties meet often solutions can only benefit one group, where both cannot be satisfied. A relevant business story with an ethical dilemma is the french food waste bill, that has come into law earlier this year. This is an illustration of how one ethical value has overcome another in order for government to deal with the national food waste. In this report we will be analysing the decisions and actions of the main actors Arash Derambarsh and Guillaume Garot and how their ethical view s affected the government s actions on edible food waste. In the early 2000 s, Derambarsh began his law degree and found it increasingly difficult to feed himself and it was very common for students who had only four hundred euros a month after rent to find themselves hungry. 2010, Derambarsh started to grow awareness towards hunger in France, so he started campaigning against the wastage of food in his local area (Froelich, 2015). He now represents the Paris Commune of Courbevoie and believes that edible food being wasted is, scandalous and absurd , when there are still hungry citizens in France needing this such as the homeless, poor and unemployed (Froelich, 2015). Derambarsh often was insulted and abused for having an idealistic mindset over this ethical dilemma. Although his main focus was helping the people, because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Senior Dance Concert Review The Senior Dance concert, 9 o clock showing consisted of seven dance pieces. The first piece was called Heavy Dew , this piece was comprised of a six person group dance. The backdrop was a blue shading. The sounds in this piece were waterfalls, and rainforest sounds. The movements made me feel as though the dancers were creatures in a wilderness or a rainforest, it was fast paced. For the first part of the performance the group of girls are dancing in front of the audience together, then as the music turns to be more serious and intense, there is just one dancer on the stage. Then, once all the dancers come back onto the stage, the music starts to soften and slow down again and the lights begin to dim for the remainder of the performance. The second performance was a solo act given the title of Love You, Possess Me. The title says it all. This was a very dark piece. The dancer was wearing an all black lace dress. She gave off an impression of being a black widow. The movements were mostly on the floor. The music was dim, and made me feel as though I was in a thriller film. The look on the performer s face made me feel as though she was distant from everyone else, tragic, and apprehensive. I enjoyed this piece the most out of all of them. The third piece was titled Unclothing The Elephant. It consisted of seven performers. The music being played appeared to be a violin. All of the performers were dressed in black and white attire. For majority of the performance the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They tend to be made of a lot of glass, making it easy for people to peer into your home. Here are a few different types of window film you can apply to your French doors. Plain Colored Window Film The simplest way to cover up your French doors is to apply a solid colored window film to your doors. A solid colored window film will make it more difficult for people to look through your windows. From the outside, it will look like you have colored glass on your doors. On the inside, the light that filters into your house will have a slight colored tint to it. You will still be able to see out through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On The Klu Klux Klan The Klu Klux Klan committed many terrible acts during reconstruction. They murdered and tortured many people of color and any whites who allied with them. I believe that the K.K.K. was able to commit these acts without punishment for many reasons. One reason is the amount of violence during the reconstruction period. Another reason is that the government was in a weakened state. Lastly they could commit these acts by using justifications for their actions. The reconstruction time period was full of violence, making it much easier for the K.K.K to get away with their actions. The civil war had just ended and America was in place of chaos when the Klu Klux Klan rose up. The violence was stemmed the racist views that thrived in the south. In 1886, there was a riot between past black soldiers and white people. White police even assisted in the violent rampages. Many people, from all classes, joined the KKK during this time to support white supremacy. The Klan punished newly freed men for many reasons, including not being cooperative with whites, ... The Klan also induced fear from the government by terrorizing and murdering any southern republicans. Some of the members of the KKK were very powerful men in the towns they resided, for example doctors, lawyers, etc. These were trusted people that easily brought their family and friends into the Klan. • 6. Safe Drinking Water In Bangladesh Essay Safe drinking water is essential for healthy life, and United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared safe and clean drinking water as a human right essential to the full enjoyment of life [1]. Moreover, the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene for health and development has been reflected in the outcomes of a series of international policy forums [1]. These have also included health and water oriented conferences, but most importantly in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) adopted by the General Assembly of the UN in 2000. The UN General Assembly declared the period from 2005 to 2015 as the International Decade for Action, Water for Life [1]. Access to safe drinking water is important as a health and development issue at national, regional and local levels. Bangladesh, a developing country from South Asian (SA) region also takes several steps for ensuring sanitation and safe drinking water facilities among the people. As a result, Bangladesh has made great progress in this sector. The government also claimed that it has achieved the MDG indicator of ensuring safe drinking water for 85% people of the country. According to different demographic and health surveys, the percentage of using improved sources of drinking water is about 98% (reported in the latest two surveys Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) 2012 13 and Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) 2014) [2,3]. • 7. Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s Ibsen Henrik Ibsen is a very common and almost an essential person if you where to judge him by his plays. Ibsen plays are a symbolic representation of how to deal with the reality of social issues. Social issues can be manipulated and used as a powerful political weapon. During this period writers would commonly form information in order to gain the attention and support of the public. Henrik Ibsen understood human nature, he played a crucial role in exploring and illuminating society by uniting honesty and the reality of life, through his work. Writing as a psychologist, Ibsen could quickly sway others when it came to understanding his creative work. His relationship with human life formed an intense social and abstract perspective, which is the essence of art. Ibsen s work as a writer mainly symbolized a long writing style that reflection on people s need to live in a more advance mental way. • 8. The Minerals and Chemicals within Glass Majority of glass used in our daily glass from jars, bottles, drinking glass and even windows are called soda lime glass since it uses soda ashes in its production. Glass in general is mainly made out of sand. In fact, sand alone can be fused to produce glass but it requires a high temperature which is estimated about 1700°C for the sand to completely melt. However, to mass produce glass, other chemical and mineral are added to lower the melting temperature to ease the production. Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3) also known as soda ash is mixed with sand to produce a product of 75% silica (SiO2) and 25% sodium oxide (Na2O). This mixture will melt and fuse at a much lower temperature of 800°C. Unfortunately, the glass produced with this composition is water soluble which is also known as water glass. This is not suitable for glass bottle since it need to contain water so, to stabilise the glass, other chemical substance is mixed into the composition such as calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO). The chemical mixtures are obtained by the addition of lime stone which produce a pure and inert glass. The glass produced is originally colourless and transparent. Addition of different chemicals into the production of the glass results in different colour like green blue or brown. Most of glass bottle produced have similar composition of chemicals as their ingredients. The composition of chemicals are 70% 74% SiO2 (silica) 12% 16% Na2O (sodium oxide) 5% 11% CaO (calcium oxide) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Travelling Salesman Problem Travelling Salesman Problem Institution Name Introduction A salesman is required to visit all the cities with a known distance between every two cities keeping in mind that the cities have to be visited once. The problem facing the salesman is to determine the shortest possible route the salesman has to use to visit the towns just once and goes back to the original city. The Travelling Salesman Problem first statement was made by a Viennese mathematician Karl Menger. It brought a connection and relation with the definition of the curve length proposed by Menger that stated that the stretch of a curves distance can be defined as the lower limit upper bound of the groups of all numbers that can be contained by taking each group of points of the curve and producing the shortest length of the polygonal graph. This problem is called the messenger problem. • 11. Romantic Love In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins North American media is known in many forms to include a romantic subplot between the main protagonist and a major side character, underneath the main morals and plot the story conveys. These romances in media, particularly films and novels, are uncreative and dissatisfying. They distract from major events within the narrative and divert the reader s attention away from the author s message and morals they are trying to impart. Also, the undermining of female characters is a major issue faced in the writing of these romances into stories. Many narratives, though, may originally have good intentions with the insertion of a relationship, but society s glamorisation of romantic love holds them on a pedestal until they ve turned stale, so in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The romance in a fiction becomes the main question in social outlets and frequent questions like Team Peeta or Team Gale from The Hunger Games fans arise. As a society we hypersexualise and romanticise our media, so a story like The Hunger Games theme is ironically missed. This trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins, revolves around Katniss and her society s yearly ritual to force children to kill each other in a so called entertaining way, with media coverage. Katniss too, falls in love with a boy, and they manage to survive a reaping together. The characters are glamorised by the media within the book, ignoring the deaths of children, as Suzanne Collins tries to hint to real society what the media does. Immediately, the story took off and the love triangle popularised within the book became real, and media outlets ask fans the same question, ignoring the ideologies the author provided. The relationship within this narrative stood for an important point within the plot of the story, negating previous arguments and not in itself disappointing, yet media distorts it, turning it into a dissatisfying love triangle. The major fault in media s coverage of these relationships is it falls in line with both aforementioned faults of romance in novels, how it clouds the author s morals and intentions of writing, and with this engrossment in a single point, the media doesn t only demean the female characters, but any character, as the only involvement of characters in discussion is who they are in a relationship ... It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new self respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage they did not know they had . (King) The conflicts met between the Civil Rights Movement protesters and the white people of the South were incredibly gruesome. While peace and equality for African Americans was the driving force of the protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force of the white people. In the March Trilogy Books, written by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, and in the movie Selma, written by Paul Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, we are given a ... [Figure 1] Lewis asked, How could our quest for human dignity spawn such evil? (3:16). Another example that they both showed in common was the tension portrayed at the time of the first attempt to march across the Edmond Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Lewis and Hosea Williams led the marchers. As they were walking across the bridge, Williams asked Lewis, Can you swim? (Lewis and Aydin 3:197) as if to insinuate that going over the bridge may be what was to come, not knowing what they were to face at the end of the bridge. Where a crowd of resisters was waiting for them. Even though the marchers faced violent opposition and met with conflict, they continued their demonstrations. The books and the movie displayed controversy throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the bridge, when the marchers were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged towards them, making this day known as Bloody Sunday , March 7, 1965. When asked for his comments in the movie by the press after the merciless attack on the marchers, King says While rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with tear gas and batons like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can call themselves blameless, for we all bear a responsibility for our fellow man. • 13. Home Depot Present Value Essay To calculate the present value for Home Depot we must evaluate and understand their 10 k statement. We were given an interest rate of 8% and to evaluate the capital leases from 2015 2019 and then calculate the present value (please see excel spreadsheet for more detail). It was determined that the total present value throughout 2015 2019 is equal to $425.78 (in millions). This is an important figure and should be closely monitored and reviewed for future decisions, as it could greatly affect the company s ability to make future payments. If the risk of the company changes the obviously the present value will change as well. For example, if the interest rate were to change from 8% to 5% the total present value would increase to $460.69 (in millions). If we were to use the example above with a 5% interest rate, and a present value of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Net present value and the risk have a strong relation with each other. With inappropriate assessment of risk, one cannot arrive at a correct or near correct net present value. Net present value of any asset or investment is the present worth of that asset or investment based on analysis of future returns using appropriate discounting rate. A risk is an uncertainly attached to the future cash flows (efinancemanagement.com). A lower risk means an increase in the company s present value and future values. In the examples provided so far if the interest rate were to stay at 8% the future value of the company would be $488.62 (in millions) compared to a 5% interest rate and a future value of $587.97 (in millions). That is a difference of $99.35 (in millions) for potential profit when the company is sold. In present value terms when the rate is 8% the present value is $425.78 (in millions). compared to 5% and $460.69 (in millions). This proving that lowering the risk lowers the interest rate which then increases the present value of the company as well as the future value of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Descriptive Essay About Sea Animals It was dark outside. Clouds loomed over the skies as I walked into the enormous colorful building. Blazing rays of LED lights shone through the entrance s translucent windows. Brightness and gleams engulfed my vision like a wildfire. My eyes blink, trying to focus where I was walking. As I paced myself through the crowded corridors of the large hallway trying to find my group of friends, I could see murals of sea animals everywhere and signs directing where each exhibit was. Animated and overjoyed, I pranced to the first exhibit where the baby sand sharks were. They were extraordinary, swimming around their tank but sadly not able to leave their confined space. Their tank only allowed them to swim continuously in circles. Although animals in captivity tend to live longer than animals in the wild, it is depressing to mull over how they were stripped of their freedom. There was nowhere to escape when housed in such small enclosures. While exploring the intriguing domain, I stared wide eyed in the dim rooms, my face was illuminated by the glowing tanks while fish and other marine life gawked at me. It was as if they wanted me to join them or aid them to escape their aquatic prison. It was depressing to be so close to them, to be only separated by glass, but unable to save them. Many animals could have been violently captured from their homes with no hope of ever being reunited with their true families. The stress of hearing to kids crying, people clapping, loud music, ... • 24. Environmental Consequences Of Offshore Oil Drilling Offshore oil drilling is a controversial topic because when oil spills, it does extensive amounts of damage to the environment. Countries capable of mining oil in the ocean reap the economic benefits in addition to reducing their dependency on external oil. While it is uncontroversial that offshore drilling is a massive boon for those countries, the environmental consequences of a spill also affect the economic welfare of nearby residents. Oil contaminates animals through a process called biomagnification, where chemicals progressively become more detrimental to the animals the higher they are on the food chain. When oil spills into the ocean, it impairs the growth of native species and deteriorates the ecosystem. As a result, the livelihood of people in the tourist industry, fisherman, and shrimpers is crippled and may take decades to recover. Presuming that a country has a coast it can use for drilling, excavating oil from depths of up to a mile is nowhere near effortless. In addition to common oilrig accidents, fires and spills, there are a plethora of problems that oil riggers can encounter including severe weather storms (like hurricanes) and inexperience in the remote oceans depths. Each location holds special connotations that are reflected in events and characters that live there. Tolstoy, a fan of the countryside himself, uses the lives of Levin and, to a lesser extent, Kitty to illustrate the moral superiority of the countryside over its more urban counterparts. On the other end of the spectrum is St. Petersburg, a city of superficiality and immorality; the negative implications of this location is portrayed through the lives and tragic downfalls of St. Petersburg natives and inhabitants Anna and Vronsky. Finally, the city of Moscow is portrayed as an area in between the two extremes. Inferior to the glorious countryside but superior to the sinful St. Petersburg, Moscow is a romantic city. It is a city of wavering morality and short lived dreams; it is portrayed through the lives of the Oblonsky family, and to a lesser extent, Anna and Vronsky s temporary bliss together. The three locations in Anna Karenina the moral countryside, immoral St. Petersburg, and ambiguous Moscow are vital in developing the novel and its characters by adding another subtle layer to one s understanding of the text. Schlossberg refuses to see all cultures as following these patterns, but rather attempts to use the concept of judgment, based on the biblical example of the prophets: With their silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction (Hos. 8:4). If the idols are destroyed, and we return to worship the true God, we can expect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In dealing with idols of humanity and money, Schlossberg emphasizes the overarching role of envy in Western societies. Envy is often the cause of what he calls resentiment (a term originating with Nietzsche) a festering mental condition that wishes injury to someone whose possessions or qualities are envied. Where a Christian ethic once encouraged an equality of opportunity, which necessarily produces unequal results, resentiment desires an equality of results. So the gap between the rich and the poor is seen as an evil in itself, and poverty is redefined from the lack of food or other necessities to the lack of an affluent lifestyle. When combined with materialism, which implies that wealth can be the only measure for quality of life, resentiment leads to all sorts of redistributive policies: welfare, government induced inflation, credit assistance, corporate bailouts, trade regulations, etc. However, these policies are deceptive, since they never actually help the poor, but instead make them dependent, while at the same time enriching the people in charge of the redistribution. Materialism claims that matter is all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. William Shaw s Pygmalion On The Myth Of Pygmalion And... At the end of Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion, Eliza finds herself as a new and empowered woman. Women in the 20th century are looked down upon. This is what happened to Eliza Doolittle. When Eliza meets a man named Higgins, he makes assumptions about her intelligence based on her speech. Higgins is wrong and fails to see that Eliza is one of the most intelligent characters in the play. Eliza s ability to pick up speech and learn is high which is unusual for a woman of her social standing. In some cases, Eliza is better at picking up speech patterns and learning than Higgins. This is rare based on the fact that Eliza raised herself with no parental figures and no one to teach her. Eliza s empowerment comes from the ignorance of the higher classes about the lower classes intelligence. Bernard Shaw bases his play Pygmalion on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. In the original Pygmalion myth, a sculptor creates a sculpture named Galatea, the two fall in love. In the first four acts, we see Shaw follow this structure. A girl transforms from a flower girl to a lady and we get shown a male lead who seems to fit the part of Pygmalion. The audience would expect the two to get to together. Although Shaw follows this pattern, he ends the play in the complete opposite of our expectations. This heightens Eliza s triumph and could frustrate the audience. With minor changes into the final scene, Pygmalion can get turned into a romance. Instead, Eliza has asserted her independence and walks out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
