A Research On Risk Rate
Risk Rate.
In the initial SIB projects, philanthropic investors have assumed most of the risk of the projects. Little
or no government payment has been required unless the projects meet their performance targets. One
of the main reasons SIBs have spread so rapidly is because of their model and approach. They posses
a money back guarantee structure that has been very attractive to governments. In the long run, it may
be necessary for governments to share more of the failure risk if SIBs are not to reach their full
potential. The pool of capital available and the number of policy areas where it will be possible to
convince investors to take on all of the risk are likely to be limited.

The difference comes from who ultimately pays for outcomes. In a Social Impact Bond, the outcome
payer is the government, while in a Development Impact Bond the outcome payer is a donor. DIBs are
not bonds in the conventional way, since repayment to their investors is dependent on the achievement
of required social performance goals. Unlike social impact bonds, development impact bonds involve
donor agencies as either full or joint funders of outcomes. DIBs are a financial instrument that can
bridge the gap between investors and opportunities, and between financial returns and social benefits.
Development Impact Bonds are mainly based on the model of Social Impact Bonds, first launched in
the UK as a way to shift incentives and accountability to results, transfer performance risk to the
private sector, and increase efficiency in program implementation. The Development Impact Bond
(DIB) is a pioneering new way to encourage private investors to fund international development
projects that is 100% focused on the outcomes achieved. Development impact bonds have a lot of
similarities to impact investing where the results should always be successful, and the risk rate is non
existent. Development impact bonds are not intended to be a solution to all problems in

Literary Techniques In Elie Wiesel s Night
1. Describe the specific setting of the story; consider both time and place. Explain what influence or
impact the setting has on the development of the plot in other words, discuss the ways the story s
setting impacts the events of the novel. The book begins in Lodz, Poland before the Germans invade.
The Germans invaded in September 1939. In May 1940, they establish the ghetto. The once lively
Lodz becomes dark and dismal. Full of starving Jews and malicious Nazis. Riza and her brother s then

We must learn from these horrors. We must learn when people remain silent while others are
persecuted (260). I think this passage is very important to the book and the whole message it states. I
have read Holocaust memoirs in the past and they all say that we cannot forget this tragedy. Because if
we do, it may happen again to another group of people.
This is a very important message about society because it is extremely imperative that a mass
genocide like the Holocaust doesn t happen again. There are many genocides that have happened in
the world and we cannot let ourselves turn our backs or look the other way if something like the
Holocaust occurs again. This a message everyone should know and apply to their lives. So that they
know not to turn their backs on a group of people being persecuted.
6. If you had to summarize the theme of this novel, what would it be? What do you think are the big
ideas about life that the author wants us to take away from our reading? What are the most important
messages the author would would like us to take away from the

Catullus Before Death Do Us Analysis
Until Death Do Us Part After a long and perilous journey from Verona, Catullus had finally arrived at
Rome. As he stood by the entrance to that magnificent and intimidating city, his emotions overtook
him like a tempestuous storm. He had left his family and his filial duties in order to pursue a glorious
career in his vocation and avocation: poetry. For Catullus, the small town of Verona was a cultural
wasteland; it suffered from a paucity of playwrights, poets, and prose writers. Only in Rome, with its
diverse and cultured populace, could he truly fulfill his dreams of becoming one of Latin s greatest
poets. Thus, as he stood by the gates of Rome, he felt a mixture of feelings; excitement and
apprehension at the future lying beyond the entranceway s ivory veneer, and a sense of sadness and
melancholia at the past he was forever abandoning. Catullus had not yet taken two full strides in Rome
before being suddenly accosted by a pulchritudinous young lady. Introducing herself as Lesbia, the
voluptuous woman graciously invited Catullus into her house for a meal. Catullus did not hesitate for
a moment to accept Lesbia s invitation, indeed he had little choice; Lesbia s roseate cheeks and
comely features had already put Catullus under her amorous spell. Once inside Lesbia s capacious

he. Catullus writhed in his chair, desperately seeking someway to break free of his bonds and exact
revenge on his traitorous wife to be. But to no avail. His body was later discovered by a Roman child
on the outskirts of the city. His death remains shrouded in mystery until this

Merlin
Merlin stamped hard on Arthur s foot. George looked appalled. The envelope fell to the floor. Arthur
grabbed Merlin around his neck, pulled him close, and gave him a noogie. Merlin squirmed for all he
was worth, but Arthur grabbed both his arms in one of his and kept rubbing firmly on his head. Merlin
wanted to bite the prince to make him let go, but figured that might be a step too far, especially in
front of witnesses. He tried kicking instead, but Arthur had him in an awkward position. His face was
jammed into Arthur s torso, so he couldn t even voice his protests.
See, he has much to learn about how civilized people conduct their affairs.
George said, As you say, sire, in a rather strangled voice.

Merlin turned his attention to the red, glitter covered envelope. What would the Princess Morgana
possibly have to send to him?
Not caring that he was sitting on the cold tiles of the tiny bathroom, he ripped open the envelope.
Shiny confetti fell out, silver snowflakes, evergreen trees, candy canes, and golden stars. Merlin pulled
out a delicate piece of parchment. Inside a border of holly leaves and red berries, ornate writing
proclaimed:
Her Royal Highness, the Princess Morgana Pendragon, cordially invites you to the annual Camelot
Palace Youth Christmas Party. This year s party will be held Saturday, December 17, at 6:00 pm in the
West Parlour. Formal dress required. Please RSVP to the palace steward by December 15.
Merlin reread the invitation, bemused. How had he gotten invited to a party hosted by the princess?
He had no business attending an event like that. He wouldn t know anybody except for Arthur, and he
doubted the prince would want him to tag along. He d probably pretend to not even know him, the
scrawny little poor boy from nowhere who was still sharing a bed with his mum. Besides, Merlin had
no formal clothes to wear. He really didn t think his worn out button up shirt was going to cut it. Nor
did he have any idea about how to interact with the kinds of hoity toity people who were likely to be
invited to such an event.

Our prosecution team is charging the President of Uganda,...
Our prosecution team is charging the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, with human rights
abuses, corruption and war crimes. The actions of Yoweri Museveni have had a vast negative effect on
Uganda and its neighboring nations. Countless numbers of Ugandans have already suffered under
Museveni s leadership. By the 1980 s Museveni s government began to directly affect the population
by being unable to fund some of the basic utilities that are a necessity to the people of Uganda such as
roads, railways, and power plants. Uganda has the economic potential with its thriving agriculture,

are continuing to abuse their employees because Museveni has given them no fear of repercussion
from the Ugandan government. If human rights into Uganda is going to improve, purging these
companies from Uganda is going to need to be the first step. Uganda has also illegally entered the
Congo on the hunt for natural resources. Uganda invaded into the Congo and was responsible for
killing hundreds of people and the extraction of wealth and resources from the Congo, and therefore,
the Congolese people. Numerous human rights groups have noted that Ugandan forces have blatantly
exploited Congolese wealth for their own benefit and that of their superiors at home. (Nampewo). The
conflict in Uganda has begun to spread to neighboring countries, such as the Congo creating more
conflict just to be able to economically support itself. The more Museveni causes Uganda to suffer, the
more he tries to take from. In the near future, Uganda will be extremely unstable financially and

Nucleophilic Preparation Of 1-Bromobutane Lab Report
Nucleophilic Addition of Bromine Discussion: The goal of this lab is to create 1 bromobutane through
the nucleophilic addition of bromine to 1 butanol. Sulfuric acid is used on this lab to help protonate
the alcohol, thereby transforming it into water thus making a better leaving group. The bromide ion
can then attack and allow for the formation of 1 bromobutane. The reaction starts through a reflux. A
reflux allows for a mixture or compound to be continuously heated and condensed, so that no product
is lost to evaporation, while still providing enough activation energy for the reaction to occur. The
apparatus is simply a round bottom flask attached to a condenser with a continuous flow of water in
and out. In this experiment the reaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The confirmation that 1 bromobutane was the final product obtained was confirmed by a infrared
spectroscopy. The IR spectra produced by the product being tested aligned with the expected
functional groups of 1 bromobutane. A C H stretch, and CH2 bend were observed at 2961.17 cm 1 and
1464.7 cm 1 respectively. The fingerprint region of the the IR spectra of the product being tested also
aligned with the reference IR spectra for 1 bromobutane. However, the peak a 740.cm 1 had a larger
transmittance or amount of light absorbed than expected which may be due to scattering of the sample
and the small presence impurities. However, all the expected wavelength of peaks in the fingerprint
region were approximately the same as the reference IR spectra for 1 bromobutane. Alkyl halide tests
were performed to further confirmed that a halogenated product was produced. Both Sodium iodide
and silver nitrate tests formed precipitate thus confirming a halogenated product. Furthermore, the
sodium iodide reaction with the product occurred much more rapidly than the silver nitrate test,
therefore, it can be assumed that the Sn2 route is preferred because the product has a lack of steric
hinderance. The combination of the IR spectra of the isolated product, which showed the expected
functional of a 1 bromobutane sample, as well as a fingerprint region that

Essay on Matewan and Norma Rae
Matewan and Norma Rae
Theoretically, the characters of both Matewan, and Norma Rae take part in a capitalistic society. In
both situations the people are partaking in a form of labor market, where they are selling their time
and energy. However, the town of Matewan, governed by the Stone Mountain Coal Companies

feudalistic condition. Despite the fact that Norma Rae s small hometown of Alabama bears a great

When new miners arrive in the town of Matewan, they are automatically in debt to the company store
for the equipment need to begin working. Throughout the life of the coal miners they are at the mercy
of the company s scams and whims. Coal mining is a dangerous operation; not only by chance of
mishap, but the coal miners are in great risk of ill health due to the inhalation of coal dust, and the
physical strain of working such a laborious trade. The coal company is insensible to the health
concerns of the miners; individuals are irrelevant to the industrial company, and they are secure on the
knowledge that a fresh supply of young, healthy, able bodied workers will fall into their grasp.
The Stone Mountain Coal Company s monopoly over the resources of Matewan is compounded by the
town s isolation. Matewan, nestled west of the Shenandoah Valley in West Virginia, is not readily
accessible to the outside world; nor is the rest of the world accessible to the citizens of Matewan. The

The Loudest Voice Paley Summary
The Loudest Voice is a short story about the struggles of a girl who faces the battle of an overly
controlling parent. The author, Grace Paley, argues that Shirley should be in control of her own life.
Shirley is invited to narrate a Christmas themed play. This goes against her mom s religious beliefs,
which leads to arguments between Shirley s parents because her father disagrees. Her father argues
that Shirley should have freedom of choice in her actions, while her mother argues that Shirley does
not know what s right yet. In the end, Shirley acts in the play. Ms. Paley shows that Shirley has
freedom of choice, but it comes at a cost. The central theme of the story is Shirley has to decide
whether she chooses change vs. tradition. Shirley s mom is conflicted by the thought of having her
Jewish daughter be anywhere near the school s Christian play. She is a Jewish immigrant who has
worked so hard to get where she is today. Shirley was chosen because she had the loudest voice, but
Shirley s mom does not want her to participate because it will influence her into a Christian mindset.

The Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Patients with...
The Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Patients with Severe Depression or Schizophrenia In
surveys, individuals with both a history of severe depression and a history of physical trauma due to
an accident ranked the pain of mental illness as much worse than that of physical trauma (Isaac 5).
Mental illnesses cause immense suffering and potentially even death; in the year 2000, the suicide rate
of patients suffering from depression was estimated at fifteen percent. This is a testament to the fact
that mental illnesses such as depression and schizophrenia are serious issues, and those suffering from
them deserve the most effective treatment available. Many psychiatrists turn to anti depressants and
talk therapy in attempts to heal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The origin of these skeptical and fearful preconceptions is the imperfect history of the practice. The
most primitive forms of electroconvulsive therapy began in the 1930s, with the injection of various
chemicals into mental health patients, inducing seizures. The first published reports of such treatments
came from Ladislas Meduna, a Hungarian neuropsychiatrist whose experiments sparked the interest of
clinicians worldwide (Fink, Electroconvulsive 1). The first account of actual electroconvulsive therapy
was in 1938 in Italy; neurologist Ugo Cerletti, and his assistant Lucio Bini, applied electrodes on both
temples of the patient, and passed electricity through the brain, causing the patient to have a seizure
(Fink, Electroconvulsive 2). The earliest ECT procedures were administered without anesthesia or
muscle relaxants, and the seizures it induced were brutal, often resulting in fractures and severe
memory loss. However, the success of this experimentation outweighed the trepidation it created, and
the use of ECT progressed, using Cerletti s studies as a foundation and orienting around the use of
electric currents instead of chemicals. Despite its growing popularity and usage, through the 1950s,
the procedure was administered recklessly, still lacking the use of anesthetics or muscle relaxants, and
intensifying negative effects with implementation of a higher, more dangerous level of electrical
current (Electroconvulsive Mayo 4 5). During the

Auditor Independence Essay
Abstract. The article reviewed was Role of Independence in Ethics for SMP Accountants. The key of
the abstract is to emphasize the strength of ethics and moral behavior while conducting the audit (pp.
305 306).
Introduction. The author studied professional ethics and auditor independence at small and medium
firms. The researcher compared ethics with values, and laid emphasis on the credibility as one of the
most important ethics element (p. 306). The concept of auditor independence and ethics has
significantly changed for the last century. There was a drastic move toward the neutrality in reporting.
The main objective of research is to analyze two terms independence of mind and independence in
appearance; and examine perceptions of independent auditors (pp. 307 308). The study is important
because it investigates professional ethics as the key of quality assurance services. The researcher
considered two problems of the study: shifts in regulations affect the auditors behavior, and changes in
settings and culture of businesses (p. 305).
Literature Review. The author used a systematic review of literature in the research. The researcher
examined studies of Gill and Cosseral (1996), The Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants, and
Guidance Note on Independence of Auditors to analyze the word independence in depth. The author
stated that the term might bring a lot of confusion (p. 307). The term should emphasize that the
professional is free from financial relationships.

The Strength Of Paikea In The Film Whale Rider
Good morning/afternoon Mr Tabueto and students.
Today I will talk about the strength of Paikea, the young female protagonist of the movie Whale Rider
. I am going to start at the end film where Paikea, or Pai as she is known, has just saved her ancestral
tribe. As the tribal war canoe is being pushed out to the seas, Pai says in voice over: I am not a prophet
but I know our people will keep going forward with ALL of our strength. These powerful words come
from an 11 year old who has spent her life trying to be accepted as the rightful leader of a male
dominated tribe, despite being born a girl.
Paikea was a counter stereotype since birth. When her father named her Paikea after her tribal ancestor
who, after his boat capsized, rode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is represented with a medium shot to show how she is sneaking around. The camera then slowly
focuses on Pai. She uses a forbidden item for a girl, a taiaha , and practices with it alone while her
grandfather teaches the boys how to use it.
Challenging the boys for leadership has been one of Pai s main goals, and this is shown when she is
riding on her bike and overtakes the boys in a bus. A close up was used to show the determination on
her face as she pedalled. The scene was also symbolic in showing that she no longer needed her
grandfather to ride with her on the bicycle anymore. The music is upbeat, reflecting Pai s growing
confidence, independence and strength.
Another key scene is when Pai dives to the bottom of the sea to collect the whale tooth that Koro
threw into the water for the boys to collect, but none could find. The camera zoomed in on Koro s face
and somber music played to reflect his disappointment with the boys. Later in the movie, Pai goes out
in a boat with her uncle and after a long time underwater, she returns with triumphant not only the
necklace but also a lobster for Koro s diner. The camera zoomed on Pai s smiling face as she playfully
tossed the lobster and whale tooth into the back of the

Abraham Lincoln Bully
Abraham Lincoln made great contributions to government and very rarely used the veto power. Even
through the difficult times during the Civil War, Lincoln was still able to make reasonable decisions
and fix multiple problems without the assistance of the veto to back up his decisions. Lincoln was able
to utilize other tactics in order to justify his actions, which resulted in the support of Congress in most
cases. Along with Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson also greatly aided in
transforming the presidency into the powerful presidency that it is today.
Roosevelt took a different route and used the office position as a bully pulpit in order to shape public
opinion and frame debates on domestic legislation that he proposed to Congress. A bully pulpit is a
public office or position of authority that provides its occupant with an outstanding opportunity to

Carpenter ants make colonies in maple trees.
Alternate Text
Group
Ants won t kill your maple tree directly (Acer spp.), but that doesn t mean that an ant infested maple
tree isn t at some risk. The holes and tunnels left behind by carpenter ants can make tree limbs weaker
and more likely to fall from the tree during windy weather. Holes made by ants may also make the tree
more susceptible to diseases and pathogens that could kill it, even though the ants themselves will not.
The biggest threat of ants in a maple tree, however, is that they will use the tree as a bridge to your
home or other structures.
Why Ants are Present
Ants are known to have a voracious appetite for aphids, and aphids are commonly found in maple
trees. Ants may be swarming your maple simply because it is providing food. Carpenter ants also live
on or near trees for reproductive purposes. Ants don t eat the wood of the tree like termites do. Instead.

The odds are high that the ants and tree will live in harmony and the tree will be fine. If the tree is
touching your home, trim it back so that it is no longer creating a bridge from the tree to your house.
Remove any limbs that are clearly dead or damage to prevent an accident. If you are concerned for the
health of the tree, there are steps you can take to control the ants. If the tree contains aphids as well as
ants, getting rid of the aphids will deter the ants. Aphids can be hosed off the tree with a jet of water
from the garden hose. You can also spray the tree with an insecticidal soap for safe pest control with
no residual effects. To treat the ants directly, apply a systemic tree and shrub pesticide. This type of
pesticide is sprayed around the tree and taken up by its roots to provide insect protection for up to a
year. A systemic pesticide is best for the tree, since it doesn t require that you drill holes into

Why We Need The Military
We must never forget why we have, and why we need our military. Our armed forces exist solely to
ensure our nation is safe, so that each and every one of us can sleep soundly at night, knowing we
have guardians at the gate, said Allen West,a retired Army lieutenant colonel and a former member of
the House of Representatives. He explained America s need for a strong military perfectly in this
quote. The United States depends on their military to protect them from all different kinds of threats
like cyber warfare or terrorist attacks.
In order to see why an increase in military spending is needed, one must look at the damaged
equipment, the need for new and improved equipment and then look at what it would take to defeat
ISIS.
After the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the amount of damaged equipment was immense. The Army
and the Marine Corps lost about 40 percent of their ground equipment from the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The military still needs to replace some of the damaged equipment from the end of the
Iraq war in 2011. Some of the vehicles got blasted by bombs, others got covered up by desert sand,

Navy has been working on, is a laser gun. A laser travels at the speed of light. This would give sailors
better accuracy when they fire instead of guessing how high they have to aim depending on how far
the object is. According to the Navy Times, once in action, the laser weapon only costs about one
dollar per shot (Rathmell,

Body Image in the Media Essay
Body image today is so drastically exaggerated in importance that people, often adolescents, go to the
extremes of trying to be perfect. The media is what I believe makes body image such an important
issue these days. It makes people want to change everything about themselves, their look, their
choices, and their personality. The media are the ones also bringing this on to adolescents because of
all the places they advertise. The adults are also people that I would blame for the cases of young
children causing themselves to hurt for things they shouldn t be caring about. The indicative that
shows that my findings are correct are all the cases that are reported about adolescents and their body
image problems. Places that the media stress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The internet is also making people believe differently about their bodies. It has things posted all the
time describing how a body should be, and with the millions of people who get on the internet
everyday seeing this causes them to believe think differently about their bodies. One thing that these
people who post blogs up don t tell you is that, the adolescents trying to act like these stars end up
getting pregnant or many other things. For instance, teenage girls these days try to be like other girls
on TV and this causes them to be sexually active, and with this occurring nearly 1 in 4 girls ages 14 to
19 acquire a sexually transmitted disease, as Time Magazine describes it. It also says that in African
American girls it s even more likely, 1 in 2 girls obtain a sexually transmitted disease. Sexually
transmitted diseases are also not the only thing that adolescents obtain. The other phenomenon that
occurs because of the media is that teenagers these days try to make their bodies perfect, just like the
bodies of the stars on TV. There are many different ways how they can try to make their bodies
perfect. As the website, MEDIAAWARENESS NETWORKS mentions it, fasting, skipping meals,
excessive exercise, laxative abuse, and self induced vomiting are all considered as unhealthy methods
of maintaining weight. Some of these methods are also under the name of Anorexia. Girls are mainly

Literary Analysis Of The Lion s Bride By Gwen Harwood
Gwen Harwood s poem The Lion s Bride, written 1981 revolves around the time period when women
were objectified as housewives whose only job was to breed and nurture children, as well as care for
their husbands. This poem creates a vivid image about a lion who falls in love with the zookeepers
daughter but fails to recognize her when she greets him on her wedding day, wearing her dress, and
mistakes her for a ghost. In response to this misinterpretation, the lion proceeds to maul the woman
and lies in wait for the zookeeper s daughter to arrive and feed him. The underlining message behind
this poem revolves around a man who believes he is caged by his lover s father in response to the
feelings the father doesn t agree with, and on her wedding day, the lover feels as though he is
destroying the woman because she is marrying someone else.
To ease into her poem, Harwood creates a vivid image for the reader about a zookeeper s daughter
coming daily with their special bowl. This refers to how the lion has the notion that the woman is
forming a relationship with him through their mealtime together. In reference to this, the lion, which is
the man, believes he is caged due to his belief that the zookeeper refuses to accept his feelings towards
his daughter. Contextually, during Harwood s time, women were expected marry men who were of
their social class and who were believed could take care of them. Assuming the man s persona is
drudging and he is seen as filth in relation to depicting him like a lion, the daughter cannot marry or be
seen with him because it may affect or shun her reputation. The poet chooses to include the
connotation of a special bowl instead of explicitly stating how they share a meal together to signify
how the man and woman are forced to hide their feelings until they are alone together at mealtimes.
She leaves no doubt in the reader that the man is feeling this way because she refers to their meal as
their love feast, highlighting how interconnected these two people are with one another. Furthermore,
the man s predicament refers back to Harwood s time in that women were expected to act in a certain
prim manner, and to be a lover to a man in a status below her would taint her reputation

Which Paper Towel Works Best
Which Paper Towel Works Best
When you come to the paper towel aisle in the grocery store do you ever get frustrated and annoyed
by all the brands to choose from? Every brand is telling you that they are the strongest and that their
brand will absorb the fastest. Have you ever actually taken the time to figure out which brand is
indomitable and absorbs the quickest? Well today I will fill you in on this mysterious secret and tell
you not only which brand is not lying to you but also which brand you are getting your money s worth
and if paying that extra dollar is worth the name brand I think that the most expensive paper towel will
be the strongest based on an ice cube suspended over a paper towel over a bowl held by a rubber band.

After that I waited until the entire ice cube melted. This took about two hours or so. Now that the ice
had all melted and absorbed into the paper towel I could see that the ice cube had either broke through
the paper towel, absorbed fully into the paper towel or leaked though in some spots. When I was
finished looking over what had happened, I wrote down the results and everything all of my
observations.
The first brand that I decided to start with was Scott. Scott brand claims to have fast absorbing ridges.
I bought a package of ninety six one ply sheets for a $1.69. I figured out that each sheet costs around
0.018 cents. The paper towel sheets individually are 27.9 by 27.9 centimeters. The Scott brand held up
pretty well with the ice cube. The ice cube did not break through or rip the paper towel. The paper
towel was fully wet and absorbed the entire red ice cube. None of the red water leaked through. I feel
that the Scott brand has passed the test.
The second brand that I tested was Giant Eagles Clean n Tuff . This brand claims to be strong and
absorbent. I paid eighty nine cents for a ninety six 2 ply sheet roll. The sheets had the dimensions of
27.9 by 27.9 centimeters. Each sheet costs around 0.0092 cents. After the ice cube finished melting I
observed what happened and found that the paper towel absorbed the water with no tearing or
dripping through at all.

Analysis Of Scarlet By Marissa Meyer
There are many diverse reasons people set out on a mission or goal, some do it for fame and glory,
some do it for their family or friends, and some set goals to better the world. Scarlet Benoit, from
Scarlet, sought out to find her kidnapped grandmother. In the King of Mazy May, Walt Masters
wanted to warn Loren Hall that his claim was going to get jumped. Farah Ahmedi, from The Other
Side of the Sky, undertook the mission to escape Afghanistan with a prosthetic leg and her mother.
However, as diverse as these goals and characters are, all three had someone helping them or was
helping another.
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is a story about a young girl named Scarlet Benoit setting out on a
treacherous journey to Paris to save her grandmother with the help of a man named Wolf. I ll help you.
(Meyer, page 134) Wolf, a man she met at a dinner, helped Scarlet throughout her journey. On the train
to Paris, where Scarlet s grandmother is said to be, someone got infected with The Plague. As the
author says, Are we jumping? [Scarlet] Yes. [Wolf] (Meyer, page 181). If Wolf hadn t told Scarlett to
jump out of the train she would have been stuck on that train or in quarantine for who knows how
long. Later, after they jumped out of the first train, they spied another train heading for Paris and
decided to jump onto it. then she was falling, the world tumbling around her. [...] her fall stopped with

Taking a Look at Abdominal Pains
Abdominal pains may be caused by a number of serious underlying illnesses that can be diagnosed
and treated. The occurrence of abdominal pains may also be caused by common illnesses such as
indigestion, food allergies or even appendicitis (Golan Tashjian, 2012) . Test done for the 13 year old
female patient may be expected to reflect suspected illness. It would be important to first test for
presence of any infectious agents that may have caused the abdominal pains. The infectious agents
may be the rotavirus which is a common virus that affects children to cause symptoms that include
abdominal pains (Golan Tashjian, 2012). Therefore, it would be important not to overlook the
possibilities of a microbial infection. The suggested treatment for this condition would be use
antibiotics and dietary change(Golan Tashjian, 2012). Another reason that may cause the abdominal
pains may be chronic functional abdominal pain (CFAP). This condition may be present when tests do
not show the occurrence of any infection. Functional abdominal pain is caused by a disorder in the
transmission of pain impulses. This occurs by action of magnification of the stimulation of the
nociceptive impulses from the gastrointestinal tract (Golan Tashjian, 2012). The cause of this
condition may be due to various reasons. Since this condition is not entirely associated with
gastrointestinal tract, it would occur due to a biopsychological disorder (Golan Tashjian, 2012) . The

Participatory Sensing And The New Era Of Technology
After reading and gathering information about this article participatory sensing, my first initial thought
was what is participatory sensing? Participatory sensing is an approach to data collection and
interpretation in which individuals, acting alone or in groups, use their personal mobile devices and
web services to systematically explore interesting aspects of their worlds ranging from health to
culture. There are many authentic forms of participatory sensing, but one in particular is the article
written by Katie Shilton. As Shilton expresses the use of participatory sensing through forms of
privacy, mobile phone, and ubiquitous data collection. Based on these forms of technology about
participatory sensing, how would it improve our lives and our communities, but at what cost, we are
willing to have our privacy be out there in many databases? As we move into the new era of
technology, the thought of our personal information being place into database collection have many
concerns, but few are left untold about the truth of their information. The database is derive from
many information like mobile phone as they are used to analyze the research behind the use of mobile
phones communication. The use of mobile phones is used to collect data for personal or social projects
for the mobile and urban coverage. Moreover, Participatory sensing is meant to enable and encourage
anyone to gather and investigate previously invisible data. An example, through the mobile phone

The Importance Of Heterosexuality
Introduction: Prom, Coercion, Repression, and the Heterosexual Imaginary
There is an omnipotent and elusory force that festers and conspires just beneath the placid surface of
our society protected and intact. It is a force that lingers seemingly undetected in every relation, in
every interaction and in every corner of society that it can fill. This force is manipulative, coercive,
powerful and it structures nearly every aspect of social life. What is this force, you may ask? Well, it is
popularly referred to as Heterosexuality. Indeed, heterosexuality, as an institution, produces and wields
tremendous power over the lives and decisions of social actors. It cuts through every social facet,
safeguards and constructs hierarchies and orders along lines of gender, sexuality, race, and class.
Incontrovertibly, heterosexuality is a fundamental organizing principle of our society maintained
through cultural productions, discursive practices, and heterosexual norms. Moreover, the dominance
of heterosexuality is nourished and privileged through the heterosexual imaginary a way of thinking
that conceals the operation of heterosexuality in structuring gender (across race, class and sexuality)
and closes off any critical analysis of heterosexuality as an organizing institution (Ingraham, 2002, p.
76). Relying on illusory and romanticized abstractions of heterosexuality, the heterosexual imaginary
obfuscates the institutionalized nature of this privileged status. This obfuscation

Existentialism In The Stranger
The novel, The Stranger, written by French author Albert Camus, is a philosophical fiction piece
published in 1942. This book used both Existentialism and Absurdism to promote Meursault s
problem throughout the book. Both of these are related to Modernism, which was the aftermath of the
industrial revolution. Modernism is a philosophical movement that along with cultural trends and
changes arose wide scale and far reaching transformations in western society during the late 19th and
early 20th century (Koofers 1). Modernism was branched into different styles of art but they all had
something in common, a rejection of history and applied ornament; a preference for abstraction; and a
belief that design and technology could transform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the funeral, he was indifferent to the situation, he didn t really mourn for his mother. Another
example, was when Meursault helped Raymond write a letter because he didn t have anything else to
do. Another one was when Meursault just stood there and watched Raymond beat up his girlfriend,
without saying anything and refused to call the cops just because he didn t he didn t like them. A final
example from the first part of the book was before Meursault hit the turning point, he refused a job
offer in Paris because he thought life would still be the same even if he was in a different area. These
brief examples show that Meursault is ignoring the social critique. All of his actions are related to
Clairvoyance, a surrealist art by René Magritte. In the painting, René Magritte predicted the future of
the egg onto a canvas and in The Stranger, Meursault s actions lead us to predict that things weren t
going to go great for him within the end of the first part. Unlike the Existentialist model, the Aristotle
model suggests the opposite by portraying a character who fits the role of a tragic hero and faces a
tragic flaw. A tragic hero is a character that eventually makes the wrong judgment at the climax of the
book that leads the character to his/her own destruction. An Aristotelian model is different from an
Existentialist model because the character goes through a fall in their social status. An example of

Feldman Attachments
In his book Development Across the Life Span Robert Feldman gives the following definition for
attachment, Attachment is the positive emotional bond that develops between a child and a particular,
special individual. (pg.186) Attachments between parents and children are very important. They make
the child to feel secure, loved, and help to ensure that the child s basic needs are met. In an ideal world
all parents and children would develop secure, healthy attachments, unfortunately, this is not always
the case. A theorist named Mary Ainsworth did extensive studies into the different types of
attachments that parents and children form. Through her research, she came up with three different
types of attachment that form between children and parents particularly mothers. This first type is
called the Secure Attachment Pattern. These babies have a healthy attachment to their mothers. ...

contact with their mother and are indifferent to her comings and goings.(Feldman pg.187) The last
type of attachment is the Ambivalent Attachment Pattern. These babies also do not have a secure
attachment to their mothers but they exhibit it in a different way. These babies want to be near there

Theory X, Theory Y
Theory X, Theory Y by Douglas McGregor is a motivation theory. Douglas McGregor is a social
psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and
Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. In his book, The Human Side of
Enterprise, he outlined a new role for managers. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in
reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and
Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Douglas concluded that managers shaped their
behavior towards workers based on either the X or Y views.

Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how
these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management
attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they
expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory,
companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the
human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled,
self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete.
McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization.
Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much
money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. People change
and so do motivators. McGregor states that a satisfied need no longer motivates. This theory has no
evidence to support Theory X or Theory Y. There s no validity in the assumption that managers who
modify their actions or behaviors will lead to more motivated workers (textbook citation p177). It is
part of the manager s job to exercise control and influence, and there are situations in which this

SAMPLE ESSAY ON THEME The Amigo Brothers, written by Piri Thomas, is a story about a special

and are very close to one another. They do almost everything together. They both dream of a future in
which they will be the lightweight champions of the world, and together they help each other train
regularly. Then a time comes when their friendship is threatened because for the first time ever, they

screen while he, Felix, is punching him out. Both boys are unable to stop thinking about protecting the
other because their relationship is so important to them. Here, again Piri uses the boys to testify to the
value of friendship. Finally, the story s theme is relayed through the final actions of the boys. During
the fight, both are focused on winning the match. Each attacks the other with full force. The fight
becomes so violent that the referee has to pull them apart. After cold water is poured on both of them,
they start to come back to reality. When they realize what has happened to them, they rush toward
each other and hug. Afterwards, the bell rings to announce the winner of the fight, but when the
announcer looks around to identify the victor, no one is there. The boys leave the ring arm in arm. The
reason they leave is that they realize that winning is not what is most important to them. What they
really care about is their friendship. Piri finalizes his theme through the ultimate actions of the boys. In
conclusion, the boys choice to leave

created the famous play Hamlet. He created this to help people feel secure with what they believed in,

In my opinion, financial stability is being able to exceed that cost. A person should be able to live
within there means and still save money for later, that is financial stability to me. It means more than
just paying your bills and expenses because what if, one day your whole entire house burns down as
well as all of your beloved belongings? Are you going to be positive that you and your family will be
okay? It all comes down to being prepared for financial curve balls, because you never know what
could happen; life sure does know how to surprise us. I feel like if you re able to get all of your needs
taken care of, still be able to do something s that you want and plan for your future ( put money away
for savings) then you re living right. It may not always be the easiest thing to do or conquer, but it s a
goal most everyone is trying to reach. Having to worry about how you and your family are going to
survive is a stressful and scary feeling that I m sure no one wants to feel.
A good question is how does a person acquire financial stability? In my opinion, one of the main
reasons so many people are financially unstable is because they can afford there lifestyle. If you work
at McDonald s a Mercedes Benz might be slightly out of your reach. I believe that a person that could
acquire financial stability if they were realistic with the lifestyle that they want to live and the amount

Capitalism Authoritarianism And Capitalism
ESSAY ON ANARCHISM AND CAPITALISM BY TARIF AURANGZEB
There have been many political and economic ideologies that have adorned or stained this planet such
as fascism, anarchism, monarchism, collectivism, communism, capitalism, syndicalism,
individualism, socialism, authoritarianism and many hybrid ideologies. The ones we will be talking
about in this essay are capitalism and anarchism. Both have existed and spread the extent of its
influence, with the former rapidly gaining traction during the industrial revolution and becoming the
ideology that rules nearly all the political and economic spheres of life on this planet as of modern
times. They are both freshly adopted ideologies that have come into the limelight just a couple
hundred years ago. The fact of the matter is that anarchism is less defective of an ideology and more
concerned for the welfare of the people.
Capitalism has many defects and limitations to it that are ever so apparent in today s society. One
among them is the income disparities, poverty and lack of workers innovation that ensue as a result of
its competitive nature. This ideology is composed of three main components: wage labour, the private
ownership of the means of production and production for exchange and profit. It is based on the
exploitation of the working class as profits are made by overworking and underpaying workers. Thus
producing surplus value. Which means workers are getting less than they worked for. Not only that,

different men. The uprising of Hughes s poems are the result of their hardships that many people of

What Langston Hughes Powerful Poem I, Too Tells Us About America s Past and Present
David C. Ward, a writer for the Smithsonian and historian, writes the lens of the African American
experience through the eyes of Langston Hughes s poem I, Too. He states that this poem embodies
that history at a particular point in the early 20th century when Jim Crow laws and other racial
segregations were heavily influenced. From the build up of lack of importance becomes a larger notice
of the presence that Langston Hughes brings. Ward brings the title into play when referring to the
secondary relationship that Hughes brings into play. It suddenly shifts the terrain to someone who is
secondary, subordinate, even, inferior. David Ward States. The African American lens that Ward
notices largely in Hughes s writing is that he speaks for the second class, also known as, the ones who
are excluded. The multi dimensional pun in the title are not only close and open the poem, but fill the
drama the poem portrays for the struggle of the African Americans. From moving out of sight, eating
in the kitchen, and then taking their place at the dining room table co equal with the company that is

Should Darfur Genocide Stay Out
Whether or not Darfur should be assisted due to the genocide occurring there is a highly debated
subject, as you must know. However, I believe that the United States should stay out, because we need
the resources, the assets we send over could be used against those in need, and despite it being
horrible, it is not the worst thing going on in Africa. This issue has not caused everyone to go running

The United States, as well as other places, receive resources from not only Darfur specifically, but

one of the first kings mentioned in The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki and portrayed as the jealous, cold
hearted brother of Halfdan. King Frodi and King Halfdan both achieved their leadership due to being
sons of a previous king. We are told the King Frodi envied his brother because he ruled Denmark, so
much so that he gathered a group of men and burned and destroyed everything (Pg. 1) During this
action, King Frodi seized and killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Helgi then used a beggar to trick Queen Olof into going into the woods in the search of treasure.
King Helgi then took her and raped her. This shows how although kings during that time were seen to
be ideal warriors, they were also flawed. Like King Frodi, King Helgi lacked some morals and
eventually suffers the consequences of his actions when his daughter Yrsa who later found out that he
was her father and he had raped her mother, had him attacked. Then there is King Hrolf Kraki who
shows us an example of what was a truly great king. King Hrolf has most of the honorable traits of
that time that allowed him to obtain his leader ship along with his fame. Hrolf was for the most part
successful in his battles due to being able to gather up many noble warriors who were called King
Hrolf s Champions He treated these mean with a certain brotherhood that isn t really shown by the
other kings in the Saga. This appears to be an important trait for him to have during this time and it
works in his favor. As more men heard about how he honored his champions, they were attracted
towards him which allowed him to build a decent sized army of warriors. An example of this
happening is when Svipdag told his king that he was leaving because he wanted to look for a king who
will honour (Pg. 30) him and his brothers more. Although King Hrolf Kraki had many honorable traits
he too was flawed like most people. One mistake

Female Protagonists of Detective Narratives
This essay will focus on female protagonists who are the center and driving force behind a detective
narrative. I will compare and contrast Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs and Lisbeth
Salander from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to explore two women that are progressive in breaking
through traditional gender roles and are successful at portraying a female that goes against the grain.
These women portray unique and progressive ideas about sexuality. Clarice and Lisbeth are two
empowered females that are successful as detectives. Usually, a female in the center of detective film
is misguided or taken advantage of because of the lack over control over their emotions. However,
Clarice and Lisabeth are two examples of women that embrace their femininity in order to get closer
to the killer. This paper will examine Clarice and Lisabeth from a post feminist perspective to prove
that these detectives are progressive in their roles.
Mulvey suggests that women are passive objects on screen that are meant to be enjoyed and looked at
at by the active male. Clarice and Slander can be seen as objects when critiquing it with just Mulveys
theory, however when looked at from a post feminist view it is clear that these women are intelligent
in their roles as detectives, and they use their sexuality to help them excel in their careers. Secondly,
Gates suggests that females as the center in a detective film become masculinized and if they do not
end up in marriage or with love,

Genetic Cloning In Michael Crichton s Jurassic Park
Michael Crichton s novel Jurassic Park, is a science fiction story about bringing dinosaurs back to life
through genetic cloning. Throughout the book there are several references that dinosaurs are actually
birds, not reptiles.
Crichton did his research when writing these books because the science behind everything is correct.
Dr. Henry Wu, the chief geneticist, cloned the DNA from insects in amber, a hard yellow resin of dried
tree sap. Throughout the novel,
Dr. Alan Grant, a paleontologist, is asked to come to John Hammond s island along with other
scientists. Dennis Nedry, a computer programmer, shuts off electricity, and dies why stealing embryos,
leaving no one to turn it back on; the back up generator isn t enough to power the entire security
system. This leaves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first bird is debated to be the Archaeopteryx, discovered in Germany, believed to be 145 million
years old. It resembled a crow sized animal with feathers. If the feathers were not found, it would have
been identified as a small dinosaur. It did however have a wishbone, found in birds, and it had bird
like feet.
Researchers believe that dinosaurs shrunk in size while adapting to new changes in the environment.
Researchers believe birds descended from two legged dinosaurs,
Theropods. The skull itself is believed to have gone from a Velociraptor, to
Archaeopteryx, to modern day chickens and pigeons. Some differences from the
Archaeopteryx and chicken are the size of the brain, eye cavities, and beak. The
Archaeoptreryx had teeth, where as the chicken does not. Dinosaurs started shrinking to enable flight.
In Jurassic Park, they compare the way dinosaurs walk, the size or their arms and legs, the hinged
knee and ankle, the bobbing of the head when they walk, and their toes.
They had to compare them to reptiles because Dr. Wu and to supplement other DNA in to the broken
DNA they discovered for clone. The dinosaurs couldn t see Grant if he

My Family Of The Family Tree
I derive most of my identity from my Mother s side of the family tree, so this autobiography will be a
little lopsided; much like my personality. My maternal grandmother s family came from Sonder
Stenderup of Jutland, Denmark and my maternal grandfather s family is of German descent. The
original family name was Gron, however my great grandfather change the surname to Green in order
to sound more American. My mother s grandparents came from Jutland, Denmark in 1905 and my
grandmother was born in Racine in 1920. The only characteristic I inherited from that side of the
family is my punctuality, my outspokenness, and my ability to drink. I grew up in a three bedroom,
one bathroom house with my mother and four brothers along with a neighborhood full of kids (mostly
boys). I have three older brothers; 10, 9, and 8 years older and one brother who is three years younger
than me. My older brothers all joined the service as they turned of age, therefore it created a split
upbringing for me. Up until I was 8, I was treated as the baby sister and my younger brother and I
were constantly dragged to my older brother s friends houses. My mother worked quite a bit,
therefore, my eldest brother was in charge of the rest of the clan, however, he usually delegated one of
the other two brothers to watch me my younger brother. Which is why I learned to play poker at a very
young age, even though I m still not good at bluffing my opponents. After I turned eleven, all of my

Little or no government payment has been required unless the projects meet their performance targets. One of the main reasons SIBs have spread so rapidly is because of their model and approach. They posses a money back guarantee structure that has been very attractive to governments. In the long run, it may be necessary for governments to share more of the failure risk if SIBs are not to reach their full potential. The pool of capital available and the number of policy areas where it will be possible to convince investors to take on all of the risk are likely to be limited. In a Social Impact Bond, the outcome payer is the government, while in a Development Impact Bond the outcome payer is a donor. DIBs are not bonds in the conventional way, since repayment to their investors is dependent on the achievement of required social performance goals. Unlike social impact bonds, development impact bonds involve donor agencies as either full or joint funders of outcomes. DIBs are a financial instrument that can bridge the gap between investors and opportunities, and between financial returns and social benefits. Development Impact Bonds are mainly based on the model of Social Impact Bonds, first launched in the UK as a way to shift incentives and accountability to results, transfer performance risk to the private sector, and increase efficiency in program implementation. The Development Impact Bond (DIB) is a pioneering new way to encourage private investors to fund international development projects that is 100% focused on the outcomes achieved. As he stood by the entrance to that magnificent and intimidating city, his emotions overtook him like a tempestuous storm. He had left his family and his filial duties in order to pursue a glorious career in his vocation and avocation: poetry. For Catullus, the small town of Verona was a cultural wasteland; it suffered from a paucity of playwrights, poets, and prose writers. Only in Rome, with its diverse and cultured populace, could he truly fulfill his dreams of becoming one of Latin s greatest poets. Thus, as he stood by the gates of Rome, he felt a mixture of feelings; excitement and apprehension at the future lying beyond the entranceway s ivory veneer, and a sense of sadness and melancholia at the past he was forever abandoning. Catullus had not yet taken two full strides in Rome before being suddenly accosted by a pulchritudinous young lady. Introducing herself as Lesbia, the voluptuous woman graciously invited Catullus into her house for a meal. Nucleophilic Preparation Of 1-Bromobutane Lab Report Nucleophilic Addition of Bromine Discussion: The goal of this lab is to create 1 bromobutane through the nucleophilic addition of bromine to 1 butanol. The origin of these skeptical and fearful preconceptions is the imperfect history of the practice. The most primitive forms of electroconvulsive therapy began in the 1930s, with the injection of various chemicals into mental health patients, inducing seizures. The first published reports of such treatments came from Ladislas Meduna, a Hungarian neuropsychiatrist whose experiments sparked the interest of clinicians worldwide (Fink, Electroconvulsive 1). The first account of actual electroconvulsive therapy was in 1938 in Italy; neurologist Ugo Cerletti, and his assistant Lucio Bini, applied electrodes on both temples of the patient, and passed electricity through the brain, causing the patient to have a seizure (Fink, Electroconvulsive 2). The earliest ECT procedures were administered without anesthesia or muscle relaxants, and the seizures it induced were brutal, often resulting in fractures and severe memory loss. However, the success of this experimentation outweighed the trepidation it created, and the use of ECT progressed, using Cerletti s studies as a foundation and orienting around the use of electric currents instead of chemicals. Despite its growing popularity and usage, through the 1950s, the procedure was administered recklessly, still lacking the use of anesthetics or muscle relaxants, and intensifying negative effects with implementation of a higher, more dangerous level of electrical current (Electroconvulsive Mayo 4 5). The key of the abstract is to emphasize the strength of ethics and moral behavior while conducting the audit (pp. 305 306). Introduction. The author studied professional ethics and auditor independence at small and medium firms. The researcher compared ethics with values, and laid emphasis on the credibility as one of the most important ethics element (p. 306). The concept of auditor independence and ethics has significantly changed for the last century. There was a drastic move toward the neutrality in reporting. The main objective of research is to analyze two terms independence of mind and independence in appearance; and examine perceptions of independent auditors (pp. 307 308). The study is important because it investigates professional ethics as the key of quality assurance services. The researcher considered two problems of the study: shifts in regulations affect the auditors behavior, and changes in settings and culture of businesses (p. 305). Literature Review. The author used a systematic review of literature in the research. The researcher examined studies of Gill and Cosseral (1996), The Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants, and Guidance Note on Independence of Auditors to analyze the word independence in depth. He explained America s need for a strong military perfectly in this quote. The United States depends on their military to protect them from all different kinds of threats like cyber warfare or terrorist attacks. • 21. Literary Analysis Of The Lion s Bride By Gwen Harwood Gwen Harwood s poem The Lion s Bride, written 1981 revolves around the time period when women were objectified as housewives whose only job was to breed and nurture children, as well as care for their husbands. This poem creates a vivid image about a lion who falls in love with the zookeepers daughter but fails to recognize her when she greets him on her wedding day, wearing her dress, and mistakes her for a ghost. In response to this misinterpretation, the lion proceeds to maul the woman and lies in wait for the zookeeper s daughter to arrive and feed him. The underlining message behind this poem revolves around a man who believes he is caged by his lover s father in response to the feelings the father doesn t agree with, and on her wedding day, the lover feels as though he is destroying the woman because she is marrying someone else. To ease into her poem, Harwood creates a vivid image for the reader about a zookeeper s daughter coming daily with their special bowl. This refers to how the lion has the notion that the woman is forming a relationship with him through their mealtime together. In reference to this, the lion, which is the man, believes he is caged due to his belief that the zookeeper refuses to accept his feelings towards his daughter. Contextually, during Harwood s time, women were expected marry men who were of their social class and who were believed could take care of them. Assuming the man s persona is drudging and he is seen as filth in relation to depicting him like a lion, the daughter cannot marry or be seen with him because it may affect or shun her reputation. The poet chooses to include the connotation of a special bowl instead of explicitly stating how they share a meal together to signify how the man and woman are forced to hide their feelings until they are alone together at mealtimes. She leaves no doubt in the reader that the man is feeling this way because she refers to their meal as their love feast, highlighting how interconnected these two people are with one another. Furthermore, the man s predicament refers back to Harwood s time in that women were expected to act in a certain prim manner, and to be a lover to a man in a status below her would taint her reputation ... The occurrence of abdominal pains may also be caused by common illnesses such as indigestion, food allergies or even appendicitis (Golan Tashjian, 2012) . Test done for the 13 year old female patient may be expected to reflect suspected illness. It would be important to first test for presence of any infectious agents that may have caused the abdominal pains. The infectious agents may be the rotavirus which is a common virus that affects children to cause symptoms that include abdominal pains (Golan Tashjian, 2012). Therefore, it would be important not to overlook the possibilities of a microbial infection. The suggested treatment for this condition would be use antibiotics and dietary change(Golan Tashjian, 2012). Another reason that may cause the abdominal pains may be chronic functional abdominal pain (CFAP). This condition may be present when tests do not show the occurrence of any infection. Functional abdominal pain is caused by a disorder in the transmission of pain impulses. This occurs by action of magnification of the stimulation of the nociceptive impulses from the gastrointestinal tract (Golan Tashjian, 2012). Participatory sensing is an approach to data collection and interpretation in which individuals, acting alone or in groups, use their personal mobile devices and web services to systematically explore interesting aspects of their worlds ranging from health to culture. There are many authentic forms of participatory sensing, but one in particular is the article written by Katie Shilton. It is a force that lingers seemingly undetected in every relation, in every interaction and in every corner of society that it can fill. This force is manipulative, coercive, powerful and it structures nearly every aspect of social life. What is this force, you may ask? Well, it is popularly referred to as Heterosexuality. Indeed, heterosexuality, as an institution, produces and wields tremendous power over the lives and decisions of social actors. It cuts through every social facet, safeguards and constructs hierarchies and orders along lines of gender, sexuality, race, and class. Incontrovertibly, heterosexuality is a fundamental organizing principle of our society maintained through cultural productions, discursive practices, and heterosexual norms. Moreover, the dominance of heterosexuality is nourished and privileged through the heterosexual imaginary a way of thinking that conceals the operation of heterosexuality in structuring gender (across race, class and sexuality) and closes off any critical analysis of heterosexuality as an organizing institution (Ingraham, 2002, p. 76). This book used both Existentialism and Absurdism to promote Meursault s problem throughout the book. Both of these are related to Modernism, which was the aftermath of the industrial revolution. Modernism is a philosophical movement that along with cultural trends and changes arose wide scale and far reaching transformations in western society during the late 19th and early 20th century (Koofers 1). A final example from the first part of the book was before Meursault hit the turning point, he refused a job offer in Paris because he thought life would still be the same even if he was in a different area. These brief examples show that Meursault is ignoring the social critique. All of his actions are related to Clairvoyance, a surrealist art by René Magritte. In the painting, René Magritte predicted the future of the egg onto a canvas and in The Stranger, Meursault s actions lead us to predict that things weren t going to go great for him within the end of the first part. Unlike the Existentialist model, the Aristotle model suggests the opposite by portraying a character who fits the role of a tragic hero and faces a tragic flaw. Douglas McGregor is a social psychologist and applied two sets of assumptions to the organizational structure called Theory X and Theory Y. His theory is based on managerial views of human beings. He stated that managers should assist subordinates in reaching their full potential, rather than commanding and controlling. Theory X is negative and Theory Y can be stated as the opposite, positive. Theory X and Y call for managers to examine their assumptions about human nature and see how these models lead to managerial practices. These assumptions will be reflected in management attitudes toward employees, the kind and amount of participation they allow, and the outcomes they expect. The strength of McGregor s theory is its significance. When McGregor formulated his theory, companies competed on their ability to mass produce goods. Today, however, paying attention to the human aspect is a requirement if any organization. Without a powerfully motivated, highly skilled, self reliant human resource, organizations do not stand a chance to survive, much less compete. McGregor s theory provides the solution to problems related to the human aspect of an organization. Some of the weaknesses in McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y theory are that there is only so much money that can be offered as motivation and only so much control that can be applied. The ones we will be talking about in this essay are capitalism and anarchism. Both have existed and spread the extent of its influence, with the former rapidly gaining traction during the industrial revolution and becoming the ideology that rules nearly all the political and economic spheres of life on this planet as of modern times. They are both freshly adopted ideologies that have come into the limelight just a couple hundred years ago. The fact of the matter is that anarchism is less defective of an ideology and more concerned for the welfare of the people. Capitalism has many defects and limitations to it that are ever so apparent in today s society. One among them is the income disparities, poverty and lack of workers innovation that ensue as a result of its competitive nature. This ideology is composed of three main components: wage labour, the private ownership of the means of production and production for exchange and profit. An example of this happening is when Svipdag told his king that he was leaving because he wanted to look for a king who will honour (Pg. 30) him and his brothers more. Although King Hrolf Kraki had many honorable traits he too was flawed like most people. One mistake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Female Protagonists of Detective Narratives This essay will focus on female protagonists who are the center and driving force behind a detective narrative. I will compare and contrast Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs and Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to explore two women that are progressive in breaking through traditional gender roles and are successful at portraying a female that goes against the grain. These women portray unique and progressive ideas about sexuality. Clarice and Lisbeth are two empowered females that are successful as detectives. Usually, a female in the center of detective film is misguided or taken advantage of because of the lack over control over their emotions. However, Clarice and Lisabeth are two examples of women that embrace their femininity in order to get closer to the killer. This paper will examine Clarice and Lisabeth from a post feminist perspective to prove that these detectives are progressive in their roles. Mulvey suggests that women are passive objects on screen that are meant to be enjoyed and looked at at by the active male. Clarice and Slander can be seen as objects when critiquing it with just Mulveys theory, however when looked at from a post feminist view it is clear that these women are intelligent in their roles as detectives, and they use their sexuality to help them excel in their careers. Secondly, Gates suggests that females as the center in a detective film become masculinized and if they do not end up in marriage or with love, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the book there are several references that dinosaurs are actually birds, not reptiles. Crichton did his research when writing these books because the science behind everything is correct. Dr. Henry Wu, the chief geneticist, cloned the DNA from insects in amber, a hard yellow resin of dried tree sap. It resembled a crow sized animal with feathers. If the feathers were not found, it would have been identified as a small dinosaur. It did however have a wishbone, found in birds, and it had bird like feet. Researchers believe that dinosaurs shrunk in size while adapting to new changes in the environment. Researchers believe birds descended from two legged dinosaurs, Theropods. The skull itself is believed to have gone from a Velociraptor, to Archaeopteryx, to modern day chickens and pigeons. Some differences from the Archaeopteryx and chicken are the size of the brain, eye cavities, and beak. The Archaeoptreryx had teeth, where as the chicken does not. Dinosaurs started shrinking to enable flight. In Jurassic Park, they compare the way dinosaurs walk, the size or their arms and legs, the hinged knee and ankle, the bobbing of the head when they walk, and their toes. • 42. My Family Of The Family Tree I derive most of my identity from my Mother s side of the family tree, so this autobiography will be a little lopsided; much like my personality. My maternal grandmother s family came from Sonder Stenderup of Jutland, Denmark and my maternal grandfather s family is of German descent. The original family name was Gron, however my great grandfather change the surname to Green in order to sound more American. My mother s grandparents came from Jutland, Denmark in 1905 and my grandmother was born in Racine in 1920. The only characteristic I inherited from that side of the family is my punctuality, my outspokenness, and my ability to drink. I grew up in a three bedroom, one bathroom house with my mother and four brothers along with a neighborhood full of kids (mostly boys). I have three older brothers; 10, 9, and 8 years older and one brother who is three years younger than me. My older brothers all joined the service as they turned of age, therefore it created a split upbringing for me. Up until I was 8, I was treated as the baby sister and my younger brother and I were constantly dragged to my older brother s friends houses. My mother worked quite a bit, therefore, my eldest brother was in charge of the rest of the clan, however, he usually delegated one of the other two brothers to watch me my younger brother. Which is why I learned to play poker at a very young age, even though I m still not good at bluffing my opponents. After I turned eleven, all of my older ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
