A Thrilling and Unusual Love Story by Robert Browning,...
Porphyria s Lover is a thrilling, and rather unusual love story by Robert Browning, given from a
deranged man s perspective. It is the tale of a man who is so infatuated with Porphyria that he decides
to keep her for himself, as if she was a doll or some type of prize. What makes this poem so
interesting is that the only twisted way he feels he can keep her, is by killing her. The poem uniquely
depicts the separation of social classes, feminism, describes how a man overcomes a rather biased
society, and also uses symbolism to represent the Industrial Revolution which was taking place at the
time. In many of his poems, Browning questions the rights and almost seems to mock the ideas of
what women had to be portray in the Victorian era, this is especially present in his poem Porphyria s
Lover . Browning also mentions in the poem what women were meant to be like at the time, yet he
also talks about how some tried to escape from the harsh lifestyle they lived just like Porphyria.
During the Victorian era, the separation of social classes was a major issue for the society. Different
social classes can be (and were by the classes themselves) distinguished by inequalities in such areas
as power, authority, wealth, working and living conditions, life styles, life span, education, religion,
and culture (victorianweb.org). This idea can be captured in Porphyria s Lover in various aspects.
First, Porphyria could be a symbol for the upper class and the speaker a representation of

MARIE CURIE AND THE STUDY OF RADIOACTIVITY
Marie Curie was born, Maria Sklodowska on November 7, 1867. She grew up in Warsaw, Poland. She
would become famous for her research on radioactivity. Marie Curie was the first woman to ever win
a Nobel prize, and the first ever to win two Nobel prizes. She is most famous for the discovery of
Radium and Polonium. Her work not only influenced the development of fundamental science, but
also began a new era in medical research and treatment.
Maria was the last of five children. Her oldest sister died of Typhus, one sister became a teacher and a
brother and a sister both became physicians. Her family was not very rich, but education was ... Show

During Marie s time, the atom was thought to be the smallest particle in existence. At first, Marie and
Pierre Curie believed that perhaps the atom was covered with cosmic rays. Marie tested numerous
elements to find if other ones than Uranium would make the air conduct electricity better.
Pierre was so interested in Marie s work, that he joined forces with her. Her research had revealed that
two uranium ores, pitchblende and chalcolite were much more radioactive that pure uranium. Marie
concluded that the highly radioactive nature of these ores may possibly be due to undiscovered
elements.
In July of 1898, Marie and Pierre Cure discovered Polonium. They named the element after Marie s
birth country, Poland. Chemically, this new element was very similar to bismuth, but it contained
radioactivity, so it must be new. In December of 1898, the Curie s discovered yet another element.
They named this one radium, from the Latin word for ray. The two new elements had completely
different chemical properties, but they both had very strong radioactivity.
It was not easy for Marie and Pierre to convince the science community of their new findings. Marie
succeeded in separating the radium from the barium, but it wasn t easy. She had to treat very large
amounts of pitchblende, but she had plenty of pitchblende to use. (The Curie s

2013 Fiscal And Environmental Analysis
Suncor Investment Report Case Study 2010 2013 Fiscal and Environmental Analysis Written Report
Turner Fenton SS Date of Report: January 17th 2015 Suncor Energy Inc. Alun Stokes Mr. Barrett BBI
2O8 A January 17th 2015 I. COMPANY ANALYSIS Suncor was founded in 1919 in Montreal, and
originally incorporated as Sun Company of Canada, (Subsidiary of Sun Oil). It stayed as such until
1979, at which point the name Suncor came to fruition through the merging of Great Canadian Oil
Sands, and its conventional gas and oil interests. Suncor Energy is an integrated energy company that
specializes in the production of synthetic crude oil from oil sands in Calgary, Alberta.
ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS When looking for investment opportunities, whilst analyzing the
trends in a company s financials may paint a fairly accurate picture of their financial standing, and
allow for prediction in years to come, without first properly addressing environmental factors that
affect the company, one cannot come to an informed decision about where or not to invest. The
predominant categories these fall under being political, social, economic and technological, there are
certain facets that prove more important than others. In terms of Suncor Energy, there is no one most
important factor, as each interconnects with the others to make up that which is the competitive
environment. To begin with, the economic environment affects Suncor, both on a local and global
scale.

Ambivalence About Immigration
Its been no secret that we have a major political divide this past year. At the center of this controversy
has been the issue of refugees and our country s veterans. About 88,000 foreigners arrive in the United
States on a typical day. Most are welcomed at airports and borders, and most do not intend to stay in
the United States. 82,000 nonimmigrant foreigners per day come to the United States as tourists,
business visitors, students, and foreign workers. Another 2,200 arrivals are immigrants and refugees,
persons that the United States has invited to join American society as permanent residents. The other
4,100 are unauthorized or illegal foreigners some enter legally as tourists and then stay in the United
States, but most enter the country unlawfully by eluding border patrol agents or using false documents
to circumvent border inspectors.
Is the daily arrival in the United States of the equivalent of a small city s population something to be
welcomed or something to be feared? There is no single answer, which helps to explain America s
historical ambivalence about immigration. On one hand, the United States celebrates its immigrant
heritage, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

could become a serious threat to internal stability and confidence in the

My Junior Year Research Paper
During my Junior year, one academic challenge I faced was when I let my science partner copied my
homework. My partner was a type of person that would skip class and her grades weren t the
greatness. I thought she was my friend because we would hangout and talk about life. This was a big
thing I faced in my junior year. One day my lab partner didn t show up for three days. When she
finally showed up, I asked her why she decided to skip school. She told me that she had a lot of family
problems going on. I felt really bad for her because she missed a lot of lab reports. So she ask me if I

Mexican Born Dancer And Choreographer Jose Limon
According to the website Biography, Mexican born dancer and choreographer José Limón is
recognized as an important figure in the American modern dance movement of the 1930s 1960s
(Biography). Jose Limon is one of the Ballet dancer sand choreographers in the 1930s. Even though
he is considered to be a Ballet dancer, Limon is well known for performing and choreographing a
great amount of Modern Dance piece. Jose Limon is significant to me because he is the first Modern
Dance choreographer I know, and his representative work the Moor s Pavane impressed me the most
due to the plots and the expressive movements in this piece. After watching the video the Moor s
Pavane, it raised my interest on Jose Limon; it also motivated me to do a deeper research on the
information about Modern Dance. Jose Limon, one of the pioneers of Modern Dance, his Limon
Technique has brought a significant contribution to the field of Modern Dance in the 20th century.
Based on the biography of Jose Limon, he was born on January 12, 1908, in Mexico. Jose Limon is
the eldest of eleven children in his family. The Limon family emigrated from Mexico to Los Angelas,
California in 1915 due to the Mexican Revolution of 1910. After he graduated from High School, he
first attended the art program of UCLA. In 1928, he moved to New York; later, Limon got a chance to

The Influence Of Family Sitcoms In The 1970 s
The family sitcom has always been a form of entertainment that has brought people together, and has
played a pivotal role in American society. Family values often change over time to reflect the issues
being faced by each family member generationally. Media and entertainment are often affected by the
social and political issues of their time. Many of these issues, and the way that these issues have
shaped American values, have often influenced the content of television sitcoms. Although family
sitcoms often reflect the values of real American families, in the 1970s, many television families had
very few flaws, as opposed to the real families of the 1970s. Meanwhile, television families more
accurately represented real families in the 1980s. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the seventies, family values were more conservative and traditional with the popularization of
the nuclear family in the fifties and sixties. The nuclear family was ...built around the nucleus of the
mother and father... (Stanley, 2012). This changed in the 1970s due to the economic and social
struggle inflicted by the Cold War and Vietnam (Stanley, 2012). Family size began to go down
because people could not afford big families anymore. This trend continued into the eighties when,
...the average family size dropped from 3.58 people in 1970 to 3.29 people in 1980... (Suro, 1991).
Because of financial struggle, family size was less of a priority for the average family. Another change
in the 1980s was that marriage was not valued as much as it was in previous years. When a group of
high school seniors were surveyed, there was ...a modest (4% 5%) decline in the late 1980s in the
fraction of female seniors saying that they thought it very likely that they would stay married for a
lifetime to the same person... (Thornton Young Demarco, 2001). Because of the lack of optimism in
the 1970s, young women were not as enthusiastic about marriage as previous generations. Because of
social, political, and economic struggles and advancements, family values changed between these two

The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz
In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the author L. Frank Baum uses colors to represent emotions and
characteristics of the characters and settings in the story. Baum s use of colors not only brought the
characters to life, but also allowed the reader to understand their points of view and motivation in
every scenario. Even children at young ages can comprehend the deep meaning of colors. Infants learn
basic color interpretation such as red objects represent anger while white characters symbolize good.
Baum uses colors to a greater extent when he takes his protagonist Dorothy through the magical land
of Oz. Colors in this novel play a crucial part in separating Dorothy s home life in Kansas from her
adventure through Oz. L. Frank Baum s use of colors in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz symbolize
maturity, loyalty and protection within the characters of the novel. To begin this tale, L. Frank Baum
opens with Dorothy in her hometown Kansas. Dorothy s time in Kansas is surrounded by the color
gray. The unemotional color gray symbolizes subdued, boring and drab (empower yourself with color
psychology). In the novel, Dorothy is an excited child who wants to play and express her creativity. A
setting such as Kansas is not the place for her. In Kansas, everything is subdued because most of the
population is older and more mature than Dorothy is. This brings a feeling of boredom to Dorothy
because relative to her, the rest of the town is very drab or lacking in spirit. Baum brilliantly set an

After collecting the results from the first two experiments, the third experiment was used to eliminate
any doubt in this experiment. Thirty nine undergraduate students, averaging approximately twenty one
years of age were tested. Out of the words listed, there was a stimulus that had nothing to do with the
other listed words. These participants were split into two groups randomly, Survival and Pleasantness.
The procedure of this experiment mirrors the same procedure as the first experiment. Results It was
discovered that the adults in experiment one and three as well as the children in experiment two have a
survival recall advantage. It was also found that those who were put under a survival group had more
false recalled words. By looking at the net accuracy scores, the advantage of true recall under a
survival context is mute by the amount of falsely recalled words. Relevance In my opinion, these
findings are important in knowing how much we can remember in different environments. In a
survival mindset, it becomes a lot easier to remember critical objects for survival, but at the same time
more false words are brought up and recalled. These findings show that it s rather apparent that being
in a survival mode, it does exactly what you would expect it to do, help you survive. Regardless of
your age, you improve your true recall while in a survival

Methods And Reflection Of Major Depressive Disorder
Method and Reflection
While researching about major depressive disorder, we tried to find valid articles that had a great
explanation of the disorder. We were looking for deeper information as to why people have this
disorder, how do they come about having this disorder and how/if people can overcome this common
disorder. There was a great amount of resources through the internet with helpful information. The
internet is a great resource because they even include several experiments to explain their research.
Another method of research was looking through the library to find helpful books that are filled with
information. To prevent any challenges as a group, we would get together and look over what we
needed to accomplish. Then we would evenly divide the work load and send our information to each
other when we were done. If we had any questions about the research or written aspect, we would
reach out to each other via email and help each other.
Discussion
How is it that this disorder could have a negative impact on a person s life?
The negative impact on a person s life with major depression disorder is endless. Unfortunately, there
are no positive impacts that this disorder can offer in an individuals life. Relationships can quickly
waver, work can slowly become a difficult task to complete properly, and self esteem can be strongly
effected in a negative way. All these things which harm an individual with this psychological disorder.

Metrorail Investigation
Today s experience was pretty much a unique one. Probably because it was not done individually but
it was required to be done in groups. It was amazing to do a community investigation and have four
completely different people jump on a Metrorail together. I was amazed of what everyone had to say,
the differences in opinions and the type of discussions that we were having between one another. To
begin with I knew I was going to be one of the few to be excited to hop on the Metrorail and explore
the different areas of Houston which my hypothesis was right. I can still recall how everyone followed
me to the station when they found out I have used the Metrorail before. To be honest I thought it was
pretty funny to the point, I walked around campus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, my group took the Metrorail we got down to stop at the nearest grocery store, Kroger. It
was about a mile away (about 4 5 blocks) from the initial stop. you know many of them comment
about the walking distance, weather, surrounding area, people, taking notes of the smallest objects in
the street. I remember walking to 3 miles just to get groceries so I think 1 mile is pretty good. I mean I
counted like 26 greenspaces which 20 were for new developmental sites and 6 for extra place or parks.
The Metrorail had access to more than 9 spots that can be considered for necessity for an example
Latino learning service. It was quite remarkable how many stores provided services too many to count
like restaurants, food marts, salons, and parking lots (paid). It was good to see the different point of
views between my classmates between myself. I asked a working class citizen why do they use a
Metro. Response I don t want to use my car I mean is a good way to dodge traffic . I asked a low
income person the same question and response was I don t own a house, I don t own a car, I don t own
debt . To me those are two impacting statements. It is true what my mom says your trash is somebody
else s treasure so if you feel like the Metro Rail is trash for somebody else the Metro Rail is a treasure.
just because It did not leave you in front of a grocery store doesn t mean it s not useful. at least you
have a roof to when it is raining, heater during the winters, space for comfort and A/C during the hot
summers. This is a good social experiment for those who think they know everything. It is all about
Priorities I say. how about drawing the line between necessity, services, and entertainment? It is all
about self motivation. is walking ten miles for entertainment is the same thing as walking ten miles for
a necessity? I mean I can go two ways

Investigating The Three Hormones Involved During The...
Identify and discuss the three hormones involved in the regulation of plasma calcium concentrations.
Explain why it is misleading to state that calcitonin lowers the plasma calcium concentration.
Calcium circulates in the plasma in three different forms: ionized calcium, protein bound calcium and
in complexes formed with anions found in the blood. Although ionized calcium accounts for only half
of the circulating levels of calcium, it is essential for several important cell functions, such as
muscular contraction, cellular signalling, exocytosis and bone composition. Therefore, it is necessary
that the concentration of the ion in the blood stream is kept within a considerably strict range.
Besides the dietary calcium intake, the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to its hydrophilic nature, the hormone produces its effects by binding to a surface receptor on
target cells, PTH1R, which is coupled to G protein, triggering the cAMP pathway. By doing that, PTH
exerts rapid effects by stimulating calcium reabsorption in the kidneys, elevating resorption of skeletal
hydroxyapatite by osteoclasts and indirectly increasing intestinal calcium uptake by promoting
calcitriol synthesis in the kidneys by upregulating the activity of cytochrome P450 hydroxylases.
Interestingly, it also stimulates osteoblasts to release RANKL molecules, which indirectly results in an
increased osteoclastic bone resorption. Moreover, PTH secretion induces a higher excretion of
phosphate ions in the urine, recruiting part of the calcium that is bound to anions in the blood.
Another hormone involved in the regulation of calcium levels is calcitriol. Differently from the other
two hormones discussed in this text, vitamin D, as it is also known, is a hydrophobic peptide hormone
and thus acts via its nuclear receptor (VDR) in a slower, steroid like mechanism. By activating its
receptor, this hormone regulates gene promotion via nuclear response elements (VDRE). This way,
vitamin D stimulates the upregulation of calcium transporters in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in
an increase in plasma calcium levels by raising the ion uptake. Moreover, it also induces a higher renal
reabsorption of calcium and promotes bone resorption, increasing

Physical Examination And Laboratory Testing
Introduction to case study
Genitourinary problem in female have a number of symptoms and these symptoms requires clinical
skills to focus on problem history and examination. The context of assessing genitourinary problem is
based on a number issues such as gynaecological background, family history, obstetric history and
sexual history. Having lower pain being experienced in upper urinary track and iliac fossa pain
experienced in ectopic pregnancies are some of the symptoms produced by genitourinary
pathology(Detollenaere, et al., 2015). According to description of 51 years old female, having lower
abdominal pain and 100 degrees temperature and the problem persisting for a while should undertake
genitourinary examination as well as laboratory tests. Therefore, the study reveals genitourinary
problem from examination, findings and treatment framework.
Physical examination and laboratory testing
Physical examination involves assessment of vital signs, temperature, respiratory and pulse rate and
Blood pressure. Generally, physician should observe general appearance of comfort or distress of
patient, apparent state of health, state of hydration, color and nutrition status. Furthermore, it is
important to match the patient s physical appearance with the stated age. Getting to abdominal
inspection and examination, physician should assess abdominal contour, scars, symmetry and
dilatation of the veins. The movement of the abdominal walls in relation to respiration are also

Passover In Jewish Culture
Passover is, without a doubt, one of the most sacred holidays in Jewish culture, and in this reflection
paper, I will take a look at the history of Passover and other important Jewish holy days, then I will go
over how attaining my first Passover affected me. The holy day, know as Passover, has its origins in
Exodus 12, which tells the story of how the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt by the Pharaoh who had
begone to fear them, because of how fast their numbers were increasing. So, after several years of
slavery and oppression, God made Himself known to a man named Moses. God instructs Moses to go
tell the Pharaoh to let God s people go free. The Pharaoh of course refuses. So, God strikes the people
of Egypt with ten different plagues. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the celebrations last for seven or eight days. Many Jewish families clean their houses thoroughly
during this time to remove all traces of leaven. In many Jewish homes, the children can take part in a
special search for any leftover leaven. On the evening right before the Passover begins, Jews have a
special service called a Seder. Seder takes place over a meal with family and friends in the home. The
Seder plate is made up of a lamb shank, a roasted egg, a green vegetable to dip in salt water, some
bitter herbs and horseradish, and a paste of chopped apples, walnuts, and

Tube 2 Lab
Figure 1. Results recorded from experiment. After every 15 seconds for four minutes, the absorbance
was recorded.
Based on these results recorded in Figure 1, it appears that Tube 2, which contained the 10% salt
concentration, would be one of the optimal concentrations due to its high absorbance similar to Tube 3
and Tube 4 and it having a rate of the reaction was significantly faster than the other tubes. However,
taking a deeper look into understanding the information, we can attribute human error to Tube 2. The
reason it is believed that Tube 2 contained human error was because the initial recording started with a
very high absorbance reading and did not have a large change in absorbance.
To determine the optimal concentration, we must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reviewing the data, it can be concluded that our hypothesis was, indeed, true. Though it is
difficult to confirm whether the cuvettes that contained the highest concentration (15% and 10%)
denatured, our team agreed that the higher concentration was less effective due to lower change in
absorbance.
Problems Encountered There were a couple of problems that our group encountered while conducting
this experiment. Since this was our first experiment dealing with enzyme activity, the probability of
human error increased. We found it difficult to go through the procedures with undefined roles for our
team. The other problem that our team encountered was the getting the cuvettes into the
spectrophotometer quickly once the enzyme was introduced to the cuvette.
Solutions to Problems The solutions to our problems are simple. As more experiments are conducted
with similar procedures, human error will decrease. As well as, defining the role of each member of
the team, such as designating one member to create all of the stock solutions, while another prepares
the enzymes and so on. Creating the final solution near the spectrophotometer would solve the
problem of transferring the cuvette faster. The quicker the cuvette is placed, the quicker you can get
accurate absorbance

The Neuman Systems Model And Its Impact On The World Of...
The Neuman Systems Model Ginger Weber University of South Carolina Upstate Abstract The
purpose of this paper is to discuss the impact of the Nueman Systems Model on the world of
healthcare through the use of research done in two studies by Giggliotti (2007) and Bourdeanu, Dee
(2013) and the affect the NSM has had on nursing education as shown by Clark in the Neuman
Systems Model Trustee Group records. This paper uses these examples to represent a large body of
research and educational programs based on the comprehensiveness, validity, and soundness of the
NSM philosophies and concepts. The Neuman Systems Model Fundamentals of Nursing defines
nursing theory as that which differentiates nursing from other disciplines and activities by serving the
purpose of describing, explaining, predicting, and controlling desired outcomes of nursing practices.
(Taylor, Lillis, LeMone, Lynn, 2011,G 14). The focus of this paper will be the Neuman Systems
Model and its impact on the world of nursing. Neuman believed that health was living energy that is
evaluated by the amount of agreement between five variables (physiological, psychological, spiritual,
sociocultural, and developmental) and the dynamics of basic systems. Wellness, assessed by how
much energy was spent on getting, keeping,

in In school suspension as well as Out school suspension. This problem made it impossible for the
students data to be included in the study. A couple of students did not return the consent form. One
student in particular needed multiple copies while the other student just never gave the consent to their
parents. Unscheduled school assemblies served as a problem as well. Since they were unschedule,
they were not taken into consideration when planning the study. The assemblies were also mandatory,
so there was no way to get around not attending. Influential Factors Factors that may have skewed the
findings were wording of a interview questions and grade level mathematics class. Students needed
for the researcher to explain exactly what was meant on interview questions for clarification. This

The Negative History Of Theatrical Makeup
Theatrical Makeup

Introduction
Phillipa Soo, an actress who played the leading lady in Hamilton, once stated, ..You put on your
character when you put on your makeup, when referring to theatre makeup, and she was completely
right. Whether the production is a small high school play or a large Broadway musical, theatrical
makeup is used to enhance features and create characters for the story being told. Theatrical makeup
has a long and intriguing history behind it. Depending on the show being performed, the makeup
could simply outline the features that the actor already possesses or the makeup may be used
dramatically, to create an animal or a paranormal entity. However the makeup is used, the health risks
should be taken into consideration to keep the actors safe from harm. Theatrical makeup is a complex
yet interesting topic because in order to use the makeup, one must understand the history, the different
application styles and the health risks involved.
History
Ancient Stage Makeup
Theatrical makeup was not always as nice and glamorous as the makeup of today. The earliest form of
theatre makeup documented was used by a Greek actor named Thespis, who painted a toxic covering
of white lead and mercuric sulphide on his face in order to stand out from the other actors (Finly, Amy.
History of Theatre Makeup). Most Greek plays were performed without any makeup, but Thespis
wanted to stand out from the crowd. A typical Greek play was put on while the actors used masks to
change character or facial expressions. Although contemporary performances include stage makeup,
the ancient masks from the Greek period remain as symbols of drama.
Similar to the Greeks, the actors from the Qing Dynasty also began by wearing masks to portray
characters, but later turned to makeup and paint. Peking Opera performers studied how the face looks
and the characteristics of the face in order to create the right expressions. They used brightly colored,
swirling designs of black, red, blue and white to express their stories (Cummings, T. History of
Makeup in Theater, 2017). Japanese Kabuki Theatre also utilized bright colors

Aristophanes And Plato Compared To Socrates
Aristophanes describes him as a impatient and narrow mind thinker and he also not consider Socrates
as a teacher but just a normal thinker who tries to convey his ideologies in typical way. Aristophanes
pointed Socrates as evil person who just try to be a great thinker and wanted to give their teachings to
other. Aristophanes describes Socrates very ironically and revealed many controversial facts about him
in his works.
But on the contrary Plato also describes Socrates in a very critical way and also portrayed as a very
disputable way but he also Characterize him as a philosopher who give lot of contributions in the
western philosophy.Plato consider his as a sophist because he was father of western philosophy and
propounded many theories and also gives many doctrines which also known as Doctrine of Socrates
but as same as Aristophanes he describes him as an ironic person who does not believe in God.
Socrates was stirred in so many controversies and had put to death by jury of five hundred member
just because he did not admit his faith in God when he was accused by his fellow. He was sentenced to
death by Athenian court just because he did not believe in the faith of God and he was refuse to
identify God. Poison was given to him to give him death.
These were the depictions which were critically characterized by the Aristophanes and Plato in context
of Socrates disbelief in God s faith.

John Locke, a British Philosopher, Studied the Knowledge...
John Locke (b. 1632, d. 1704) was a British philosopher, Oxford academic and medical researcher.
Locke s monumental An Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1689) is one of the first great
defenses of empiricism and concerns itself with determining the limits of human understanding in
respect to a wide spectrum of topics. It thus tells us in some detail what one can legitimately claim to
know and what one cannot. Locke s association with Anthony Ashley Cooper (later the First Earl of
Shaftesbury) led him to become successively a government official charged with collecting
information about trade and colonies, economic writer, opposition political activist, and finally a
revolutionary whose cause ultimately triumphed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Among Locke s
political works he is most famous for The Second Treatise of Government in which he argues that
sovereignty resides in the people and explains the nature of legitimate government in terms of natural
rights and the social contract. He is also famous for calling for the separation of Church and State in
his Letter Concerning Toleration. Much of Locke s work is characterized by opposition to
authoritarianism. This is apparent both on the level of the individual person and on the level of
institutions such as government and church. For the individual, Locke wants each of us to use reason
to search after truth rather than simply accept the opinion of authorities or be subject to superstition.

Population Report on Individuals with Stroke The purpose of this report is to provide a brief overview
about stroke which includes describing the demographics, characteristics, and challenges of the
disease. Additionally, this report will explain current medical and educational issues, non music
therapy treatment trends, and current effective therapeutic interventions regarding stroke. Near the
end, a specific piece of information will be provided that the author of this report deems important for
music therapists to know.
Demographics, Characteristics, Challenges According to American Stroke Association (ASA), stroke
is a disease that affects the arteries that lead to the brain. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that
carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. As a result, part of the
brain cannot get the blood and oxygen it needs which causes brain cells to die (American Stroke
Association, n.d.). Depending on where the stroke occurs in the brain, the level/type of impairment
differs with the individual. For example, if a stroke occurs in the back of the brain, it is likely that
some disability involving vision will result. Overall, the effects of a stroke depend primarily on the
location of the obstruction and the extent of brain tissue affected (American Stroke Association, n.d.).
Additionally, the type of impairment will differ depending on the side of the brain the stroke occurred.
If the stroke occurred in the right side

Informative Speech About Cats Research Paper

very interesting animals. Aside from cats being a popular choice of pet, they have many fascinating
features and habits. By the time I am through talking, you will know more than you ever thought you
would about cats. To properly inform you about cats, I will talk about their anatomy, their impact on
our world, their variation, and their lifestyle.
Cats have a very interesting anatomy that helps them do many wonderful things. For example, all cats
have whiskers, big ears, and a tail. A cat s whiskers are used for navigation, and can help detect
predators. Cats use their whiskers to feel around and detect the size and texture of an object. ... Show

Cats can hear much better than humans. They hear much better than dogs as well. A cat s hearing is so
good, in fact, that it can even tell the approximate size of what it is hearing. A cat also uses its ears to
maintain balance. There are three fluid filled tubes lined with small hairs in a cat s ear. The fluid
brushes past the small hairs and gives the cat a sense of where it is going.
A cat s tail is used for balance, as well as for communication. A cat will sway its tail back and forth to
balance its body. A cat will also sometimes wrap its tail around something like a tree branch to
stabilize its body. You might wonder how a cat uses its tail for communication. If the cat puffs up its
tail and straightens it, this is communicating fear. If its tail is relaxed, then the cat is relaxed.
Cats have a significant impact in our world. They impact other animals and nature as well. Cats are
not native to the U.S., therefore, they are an unnatural predator to many species. An article by Scott
Loss, Tom Will, and Peter Marra estimated that free ranging domestic cats kill 1.4 to 3.7 billion birds
and 6.9 to 20.7 billion mammals annually. Domestic cats have also caused extinction in a variety of
animals. It is estimated that cats are the top reason for human induced bird mortality. Although it is the

Exploring the Scars of Centuries Human slavery is a phenomenon that has been present since the
times of the Romans and the Greeks. As a common misconception, societies, especially America s
tend to believe that slavery was always black. Throughout a period of enslavement, human beings
have again and again treated slavery and racial hierarchy as an act of the norm embedded in human
behavior, which they use in order to make a clear distinction between them and us to justify such
atrocious and immortal acts. With careful analysis of premature human enslavement, whiteness as
beauty, the west and the rest, disparities between European ethnic groups, the study of anthropology,
white slavery, linguistic movements, popular culture and different political institutions supported by
America s governing law, the creation of the white race is drawn. With emphasis on the role played by
Irish and Black Americans, the support of structural forces and cultural practices taken from historical
examples drawn from the literary works of Harris, Painter, Roediger and Katznelson, slavery
misconceptions, the distinction between races, the formation of the white race and its benefits and the
homogeneity between black and slavery become apparent. Taking the broader history of human
enslavement into account, slavery seen during the time of the Greeks and the Romans shows an
enormous misconception of slavery: slavery was not

Developing The Stormwater Master Plan
Following is a description of the important data and their potential uses in developing the Stormwater
Master Plan:
a) The accuracy and resolution of topographic data that determines the drainage area boundaries,
slopes and flow paths have a significant impact on the quality of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
and flood mapping. The FMC team expects that the high quality topographic data of Freetown,
including the upstream mountainous areas, will be provided by SLRA within a week of the project
inception. A basemap showing ortho rectified aerial imagery will significantly help in ground truthing
and resolving discrepancies in data. Additionally topographic survey will be required to determine the
centerline of existing and proposed storm drain alignment and establish vertical and horizontal
geometric characteristic of the urban storm water drainages and structures, centerlines and cross
sections.
b) Geographic coordinates of significant features on or adjacent to the urban storm water drainages
and structures, including buildings, markets and roads will be required. It is assumed that such GIS
data are readily available to support the development of the Master Plan.
c) Assuming the long term rainfall data are readily available from the Meteorological Office, all
rainfall records from local rain gauges will be compiled. The rainfall data should have a time interval
of one hour or less. The rainfall records will be used as input to the model and to determine the peak

INTRODUCTION OF GROUP Plants are one of the most complex organisms; how they grow is very
complex and it is important to see how they grow to even how they die. We first had to propose a
question and test it to see if it was profound enough to test. Our group decided to see how different

Vinegar is also used in diet control because several doses can provide feeling of fullness and

agent because of its acidic property it can dissolve mineral deposits from glass. Vinegar is a very
useful chemical substance but at the same time a very acidic and corrosive compound (Harris, 2011).

The Effects Of Fertility Transition On Women s Growth...
With the world running out of resources and struggling to sustain the recent boom in world
population, governments around the world have been responding by trying to curb population growth
with population programmes. Fertility Transition is a process whereby a country changes from a high
birth rate to lower birth rate and is measured in terms of number of live births per 1000 women. This
process usually occurs when a country is developing. Countries which are undergoing fertility
transition in recent years have undergone a much more rapid transformation than when the present day
developed economies underwent transition a couple hundred years ago. High fertility is often
associated with poverty as there is a lack of education, healthcare and lack of sustainability within a
country. The reasons which cause a country to experience fertility transition include; the changing of
economy structure or economic growth, investment in education and the provision/subsidisation of
contraception.
Cuba is a government planned economy with poor economic prospects and a low fertility rate of 1.46
in 2014, down from 4.6% in 1963. Following the Cuban revolution, the was a big peak in fertility as
doctors whom over saw abortions left the country and a US embargo led to a big shortage in the
availability of contraception. The newfound communist government provided family planning as well
as allowing pharmacies to sell oral contraceptives and condoms without the need of a prescription.

Antigone And The Adjustment Bureau Summary

Pre AP;5th hour
20 December, 2017
Compare and Contrast Essay Both Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau have similarities and
differences, when analyzing one government and democracy about the both of them! There are many
ways to compare and contrast these two pieces! Although Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau are
completely different, there are many similarities that you can draw from the both of them. Not only
can you relate both of theses pieces together using one motif, you can also relate the same motif to the
real world and to the choices that you make! In Antigone, government and democracy played a huge
role throughout the story! Creon is one that really relates to this motif! In the city of Thebes, the
government was a form of democratic democracy. At the time, Creon was king! Throughout the story,
Creon ruled as a dictator! His everyday choices depended on his governmentative standing! He used
his power over the people in the city when making choices that he thought would be beneficial. He
only listened to himself and he believed that every choice he made was right! Many different
characters in the story tried to offer advice to Creon, when they realized that he was making irrational
decisions, but he chose to ignore them and he continued along his own path. For example,
Tiresias(who is a seer, and knows what s going to happen in the future) tried to warn Creon about
what would happen at the rate Creon was going at! Tiresias tried to offer Creon advice and he told
Creon that he really should take his advice, but Creon took this as an insult. Whenever someone told
Creon what to do, he took it as an insult and he wouldn t listen to anyone, but himself. In the
Adjustment Bureau, government and democracy arises right when the movie begins and is continued
throughout the film. At the beginning of the movie, David was running for Congress! Due to this, he
had to change his lifestyles and he had to be more cautious about the choices that he made. For
example, at the beginning of the movie David s support system was weakened, because he got into a
bar fight that went viral! Due to the fact that he worked for the government, he had very little privacy,
which caused this

Analysis Of David Bezmozgis s An Animal And The Memory
What does it mean to be Jewish? For many, that identification of Judaism is closely aligned with more
than traditional upbringings or religious and cultural observances. The collective meaning behind
being a Jewish person is rooted in memory, and the Holocaust itself is often the crucial link to a shared
Jewish past. It is the central part of that history and identity, connected to a larger narrative of pain,
trauma or even shame. The short story by David Bezmozgis An Animal to the Memory illustrates such
a situation. By making the argument that The Holocaust is completely rooted in the communal Jewish
identity. And while keeping the memory of The Holocaust alive is important, Bezmozgis also makes
the case that there must be a sort of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At school, I kept to myself, glowered in the hallways, and, with the right kind of provocation, punched
people in the face. Mark is expected to feel a certain way about being Jewish, but that label means
something different for him then it means for his parents. Such as when his family is leaving his
grandparents in Vienna at the beginning of the story, his grandfather refuses to go chasing them
around the globe. His reasoning being
Grandfather: There, I ll never have to hear dirty Jew,
Mark s father/ uncle: So Instead you ll hear dirty Russian. Grandfather: Maybe, but you re going to
have to hear both (Bezmozgis, 68)
The Holocaust becomes the center of this. Whether it be at his Hebrew school, where Jewish history
shaped not only the curriculum they learn. But, also as a collective identity shared by a new and
contemporary Jewish generation. While still being connected to the past. This is a struggle for Mark,
who does not even identify himself as Jewish for most of the story, He is continuously challenged with
where to place himself in this new world, as a second generation immigrant to Toronto. For Mark,
being a young Latvian Jew is not easy.
Whether Mark likes it or not, The Holocaust becomes central to how he comes to term with how his
own personal identity, and how it is to be shaped. It later becomes the enforcer of the

The Work And Paintings Of Jacob Lawrence
For my research paper, I will be studying the work and paintings of Jacob Lawrence. Jacob Lawrence
was an American painter and was very highly commended African American artist of the 20 century.
What he is best known for is his Migration Series. He was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on
September 7, 1917. When he was the age of two his mother deposited him and his two younger
siblings in foster care in Philadelphia after his parents divorced. When he was thirteen he went to work
in New York City and there he went to join his mother. He also spent fifteen years teaching as a
professor at the University of Washington. Lawrence was also widely known for producing narrative
collections such as the Migration Series and War Series. Shortly after Lawrence had arrived there, he
was introduced to art when his mother had enrolled him in Utopia Children s Center, which then had
an after school art program. At the age of 16 he dropped out of school and took classes at the Harlem
Art Workshop where it was taught by Charles Ashton and he very often visited the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. In 1937, he won a scholarship to the American Artist School in New York. When he
graduated in 1939 he had received funding from the Works Progress Administration Federal Art

Soapstone is a soft material that is easy to be carved. However the stone breaks very easily due to this
soft nature, This week we are learning how to carve soapstone pendants and jewelry, and we have
already discovered several problems in the carving process. Thus it is so fascinating to see what the
Inuit culture has done with this type of stone.
The Inuit peoples often use this as a sort of way to connect with their past and keep it in their future.
The art often connects to the stories and culture of the Inuit people, such as carvings of spirit birds and
other such items. However in the beginning (the article I found says pre 1830s) these carvings were

Essay about John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln
John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. He served as President
when the country was under war. Abe Lincoln was born in 1806 and grew up in the countryside as a
pioneer. His mother died at a young age and he had a sister. His father married a widow that had three
children and Abe Lincoln liked her very much. Every day he attended school and worked very hard on
his father s farm.
John F. Kennedy was born in 1917 and died in 1963. John grew up in Massachusetts in a very wealthy
and politically powerful family. His father was ambassador for Great Britain and his mother was the
daughter to John F. Fitzgerald, who was a congressman and major of Boston. John Kennedy was ...

So Lincoln became the new candidate, and he pledged to stop anymore spread of slavery. The
Southern thought Lincoln would be the worst thing to ever happen to the U.S. and they viewed him as
a black republican . After the civil war another big issue was the Reconstruction. But he was
assassinated before he could put his plan into effect.
Lincoln s Vice President Andrew Johnson, he took over Lincoln s plan to reconstruct, but he changed
it a little. One difference was that he tried to take the voting privileges away from planters and wealthy
landowners of the South. But, however, the Southerners did like his policies, because he thought that
white men alone must manage the South. The South states agreed to Johnson s terms and they then set
up new governments and elected representatives to Congress. After the Freedman s Bureau and Civil
Rights act was passed, but Johnson vetoed them. But Congress cam back and overrode the presidents
vetoes and the also made the 14th amendment. Johnson was impeached shortly after because he
removed the Secretary of War and he can t do that.
Kennedy was the nominee for the Democratic party, who was running for President. Running against
him was Vice President, Richard M. Nixon, who was on the Republic party. NIxon hoped that
Eisenhower s popularity would help him in the running. But Kennedy won the election by less than
119,000 votes. Two main reasons why Kennedy won, was

Significance Of The Reichstag Fire
How significant was the Reichstag Fire as a mean for Hitler being able to strengthen his control of
Germany between 1933 and 1934?
The 27th of February 1933 The Reichstag burnt down. This event can be considered as one of the most
important events that led Hitler to power. Many Historians argue about how crucial was the Reichstag
Fire for the future of Germany,
One could argue that the Reichstag Fire was vital as a mean for Hitler to strengthen his control of
Germany since it increased anti communism and decreased the Communist vote.Hitler used the
Reichstag fire as evidence that the Communists were plotting against his government (as found in
Lacey and Shepard,63),this increased fear of Communists and therefore increased support of the Nazi
party. In March elections 1933 the Nazis gained 288 seats and became the largest party in the
Reichstag, this is the result of anti communism since the Catholic Center party only collaborated with
the Nazis since in a Communist country, religion is banned (as found in Walsh,159).The Reichstag fire
did not only mean increasing anti communism and more support for Hitler, but also meant less support
for the Communists. In March election 1933 Communists had only

  • 2. A Thrilling and Unusual Love Story by Robert Browning,... Porphyria s Lover is a thrilling, and rather unusual love story by Robert Browning, given from a deranged man s perspective. It is the tale of a man who is so infatuated with Porphyria that he decides to keep her for himself, as if she was a doll or some type of prize. What makes this poem so interesting is that the only twisted way he feels he can keep her, is by killing her. The poem uniquely depicts the separation of social classes, feminism, describes how a man overcomes a rather biased society, and also uses symbolism to represent the Industrial Revolution which was taking place at the time. In many of his poems, Browning questions the rights and almost seems to mock the ideas of what women had to be portray in the Victorian era, this is especially present in his poem Porphyria s Lover . Browning also mentions in the poem what women were meant to be like at the time, yet he also talks about how some tried to escape from the harsh lifestyle they lived just like Porphyria. During the Victorian era, the separation of social classes was a major issue for the society. Different social classes can be (and were by the classes themselves) distinguished by inequalities in such areas as power, authority, wealth, working and living conditions, life styles, life span, education, religion, and culture (victorianweb.org). This idea can be captured in Porphyria s Lover in various aspects. First, Porphyria could be a symbol for the upper class and the speaker a representation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At first, Marie and Pierre Curie believed that perhaps the atom was covered with cosmic rays. Marie tested numerous elements to find if other ones than Uranium would make the air conduct electricity better. Pierre was so interested in Marie s work, that he joined forces with her. Her research had revealed that two uranium ores, pitchblende and chalcolite were much more radioactive that pure uranium. Marie concluded that the highly radioactive nature of these ores may possibly be due to undiscovered elements. In July of 1898, Marie and Pierre Cure discovered Polonium. They named the element after Marie s birth country, Poland. Chemically, this new element was very similar to bismuth, but it contained radioactivity, so it must be new. In December of 1898, the Curie s discovered yet another element. They named this one radium, from the Latin word for ray. The two new elements had completely different chemical properties, but they both had very strong radioactivity. It was not easy for Marie and Pierre to convince the science community of their new findings. Marie succeeded in separating the radium from the barium, but it wasn t easy. At the center of this controversy has been the issue of refugees and our country s veterans. About 88,000 foreigners arrive in the United States on a typical day. Most are welcomed at airports and borders, and most do not intend to stay in the United States. 82,000 nonimmigrant foreigners per day come to the United States as tourists, business visitors, students, and foreign workers. Another 2,200 arrivals are immigrants and refugees, persons that the United States has invited to join American society as permanent residents. The other 4,100 are unauthorized or illegal foreigners some enter legally as tourists and then stay in the United States, but most enter the country unlawfully by eluding border patrol agents or using false documents to circumvent border inspectors. Media and entertainment are often affected by the social and political issues of their time. Many of these issues, and the way that these issues have shaped American values, have often influenced the content of television sitcoms. Baum s use of colors not only brought the characters to life, but also allowed the reader to understand their points of view and motivation in every scenario. Even children at young ages can comprehend the deep meaning of colors. Infants learn basic color interpretation such as red objects represent anger while white characters symbolize good. Baum uses colors to a greater extent when he takes his protagonist Dorothy through the magical land of Oz. Colors in this novel play a crucial part in separating Dorothy s home life in Kansas from her adventure through Oz. L. Frank Baum s use of colors in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz symbolize maturity, loyalty and protection within the characters of the novel. To begin this tale, L. Frank Baum opens with Dorothy in her hometown Kansas. Dorothy s time in Kansas is surrounded by the color gray. The unemotional color gray symbolizes subdued, boring and drab (empower yourself with color psychology). In the novel, Dorothy is an excited child who wants to play and express her creativity. A setting such as Kansas is not the place for her. In Kansas, everything is subdued because most of the population is older and more mature than Dorothy is. Thirty nine undergraduate students, averaging approximately twenty one years of age were tested. Out of the words listed, there was a stimulus that had nothing to do with the other listed words. These participants were split into two groups randomly, Survival and Pleasantness. The procedure of this experiment mirrors the same procedure as the first experiment. Results It was discovered that the adults in experiment one and three as well as the children in experiment two have a survival recall advantage. It was also found that those who were put under a survival group had more false recalled words. By looking at the net accuracy scores, the advantage of true recall under a survival context is mute by the amount of falsely recalled words. Relevance In my opinion, these findings are important in knowing how much we can remember in different environments. In a survival mindset, it becomes a lot easier to remember critical objects for survival, but at the same time more false words are brought up and recalled. The Metrorail had access to more than 9 spots that can be considered for necessity for an example Latino learning service. It was quite remarkable how many stores provided services too many to count like restaurants, food marts, salons, and parking lots (paid). It was good to see the different point of views between my classmates between myself. I asked a working class citizen why do they use a Metro. • 14. Investigating The Three Hormones Involved During The... Identify and discuss the three hormones involved in the regulation of plasma calcium concentrations. Explain why it is misleading to state that calcitonin lowers the plasma calcium concentration. Calcium circulates in the plasma in three different forms: ionized calcium, protein bound calcium and in complexes formed with anions found in the blood. Although ionized calcium accounts for only half of the circulating levels of calcium, it is essential for several important cell functions, such as muscular contraction, cellular signalling, exocytosis and bone composition. Therefore, it is necessary that the concentration of the ion in the blood stream is kept within a considerably strict range. Besides the dietary calcium intake, the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to its hydrophilic nature, the hormone produces its effects by binding to a surface receptor on target cells, PTH1R, which is coupled to G protein, triggering the cAMP pathway. By doing that, PTH exerts rapid effects by stimulating calcium reabsorption in the kidneys, elevating resorption of skeletal hydroxyapatite by osteoclasts and indirectly increasing intestinal calcium uptake by promoting calcitriol synthesis in the kidneys by upregulating the activity of cytochrome P450 hydroxylases. Interestingly, it also stimulates osteoblasts to release RANKL molecules, which indirectly results in an increased osteoclastic bone resorption. Moreover, PTH secretion induces a higher excretion of phosphate ions in the urine, recruiting part of the calcium that is bound to anions in the blood. Another hormone involved in the regulation of calcium levels is calcitriol. Differently from the other two hormones discussed in this text, vitamin D, as it is also known, is a hydrophobic peptide hormone and thus acts via its nuclear receptor (VDR) in a slower, steroid like mechanism. By activating its receptor, this hormone regulates gene promotion via nuclear response elements (VDRE). This way, vitamin D stimulates the upregulation of calcium transporters in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in an increase in plasma calcium levels by raising the ion uptake. Moreover, it also induces a higher renal reabsorption of calcium and promotes bone resorption, increasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Negative History Of Theatrical Makeup Theatrical Makeup Alejandra M. Metcalf Mrs. Cottom Mrs. Daugherty Pioneer Career and Technology Center 18 September, 2017 Introduction Phillipa Soo, an actress who played the leading lady in Hamilton, once stated, ..You put on your character when you put on your makeup, when referring to theatre makeup, and she was completely right. Whether the production is a small high school play or a large Broadway musical, theatrical makeup is used to enhance features and create characters for the story being told. Theatrical makeup has a long and intriguing history behind it. Depending on the show being performed, the makeup could simply outline the features that the actor already possesses or the makeup may be used dramatically, to create an animal or a paranormal entity. However the makeup is used, the health risks should be taken into consideration to keep the actors safe from harm. Theatrical makeup is a complex yet interesting topic because in order to use the makeup, one must understand the history, the different application styles and the health risks involved. History Ancient Stage Makeup Theatrical makeup was not always as nice and glamorous as the makeup of today. The earliest form of theatre makeup documented was used by a Greek actor named Thespis, who painted a toxic covering of white lead and mercuric sulphide on his face in order to stand out from the other actors (Finly, Amy. History of Theatre Makeup). Most Greek plays were performed without any makeup, but Thespis wanted to stand out from the crowd. A typical Greek play was put on while the actors used masks to change character or facial expressions. Although contemporary performances include stage makeup, the ancient masks from the Greek period remain as symbols of drama. Similar to the Greeks, the actors from the Qing Dynasty also began by wearing masks to portray characters, but later turned to makeup and paint. Peking Opera performers studied how the face looks and the characteristics of the face in order to create the right expressions. • 25. John Locke, a British Philosopher, Studied the Knowledge... John Locke (b. 1632, d. 1704) was a British philosopher, Oxford academic and medical researcher. Locke s monumental An Essay Concerning Human Understanding (1689) is one of the first great defenses of empiricism and concerns itself with determining the limits of human understanding in respect to a wide spectrum of topics. It thus tells us in some detail what one can legitimately claim to know and what one cannot. Locke s association with Anthony Ashley Cooper (later the First Earl of Shaftesbury) led him to become successively a government official charged with collecting information about trade and colonies, economic writer, opposition political activist, and finally a revolutionary whose cause ultimately triumphed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Among Locke s political works he is most famous for The Second Treatise of Government in which he argues that sovereignty resides in the people and explains the nature of legitimate government in terms of natural rights and the social contract. He is also famous for calling for the separation of Church and State in his Letter Concerning Toleration. Much of Locke s work is characterized by opposition to authoritarianism. This is apparent both on the level of the individual person and on the level of institutions such as government and church. For the individual, Locke wants each of us to use reason to search after truth rather than simply accept the opinion of authorities or be subject to superstition. He wants us to ... There are three fluid filled tubes lined with small hairs in a cat s ear. The fluid brushes past the small hairs and gives the cat a sense of where it is going. A cat s tail is used for balance, as well as for communication. A cat will sway its tail back and forth to balance its body. A cat will also sometimes wrap its tail around something like a tree branch to stabilize its body. You might wonder how a cat uses its tail for communication. If the cat puffs up its tail and straightens it, this is communicating fear. If its tail is relaxed, then the cat is relaxed. Cats have a significant impact in our world. Throughout a period of enslavement, human beings have again and again treated slavery and racial hierarchy as an act of the norm embedded in human behavior, which they use in order to make a clear distinction between them and us to justify such atrocious and immortal acts. With careful analysis of premature human enslavement, whiteness as beauty, the west and the rest, disparities between European ethnic groups, the study of anthropology, white slavery, linguistic movements, popular culture and different political institutions supported by America s governing law, the creation of the white race is drawn. With emphasis on the role played by Irish and Black Americans, the support of structural forces and cultural practices taken from historical examples drawn from the literary works of Harris, Painter, Roediger and Katznelson, slavery misconceptions, the distinction between races, the formation of the white race and its benefits and the homogeneity between black and slavery become apparent. Antigone And The Adjustment Bureau Summary Faith Morrow Ms. Gottner Pre AP;5th hour 20 December, 2017 Compare and Contrast Essay Both Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau have similarities and differences, when analyzing one government and democracy about the both of them! There are many ways to compare and contrast these two pieces! Although Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau are completely different, there are many similarities that you can draw from the both of them. Not only can you relate both of theses pieces together using one motif, you can also relate the same motif to the real world and to the choices that you make! In Antigone, government and democracy played a huge role throughout the story! Creon is one that really relates to this motif! In the city of Thebes, the government was a form of democratic democracy. At the time, Creon was king! Throughout the story, Creon ruled as a dictator! His everyday choices depended on his governmentative standing! He used his power over the people in the city when making choices that he thought would be beneficial. He only listened to himself and he believed that every choice he made was right! Many different characters in the story tried to offer advice to Creon, when they realized that he was making irrational decisions, but he chose to ignore them and he continued along his own path. For example, Tiresias(who is a seer, and knows what s going to happen in the future) tried to warn Creon about what would happen at the rate Creon was going at! Tiresias tried to offer Creon advice and he told Creon that he really should take his advice, but Creon took this as an insult. Whenever someone told Creon what to do, he took it as an insult and he wouldn t listen to anyone, but himself. In the Adjustment Bureau, government and democracy arises right when the movie begins and is continued throughout the film. At the beginning of the movie, David was running for Congress! Due to this, he had to change his lifestyles and he had to be more cautious about the choices that he made. For example, at the beginning of the movie David s support system was weakened, because he got into a bar fight that went viral!
