Synaptic Geotechnical Factors Influencing The Standard...
In fact, several synaptic geotechnical factors influence the standard penetration test results of similar
sand soils. Testing procedures attribute part of these mutations, therefore, normalizing the results to a
standard rod energy ratio usually eliminate such processes quandaries (e.g., Skempton, 1986).
Frequently, changes in test methods, samplers, hammers, and rods lead to corresponding variations in
N values due to the generated energy losses. Numerous researchers (e.g., Daniel et al., 2003 and
Skempton, 1986) suggested a standard dynamic energy about 60% of the hammer potential energy
(475J) to improve such losses as shown below: [1] Where ENTHRU is, the measured dynamic energy
transmitted from the hammer to the drilling rods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overview has revealed that there is no standard quantitative description in the geotechnical
domain utilized to characterize the particle s shape. In other words, since there is no standard
quantitative description employed in the geotechnical domain for the particle s shape, ignorance took
place. Nevertheless, many researchers (e.g., Michell and Soga, 2005; Arasan et al., 2010, and
Rodriguez et al., 2013) agreed to define the particle shape as shown in Figure 1 and Table 2.
Furthermore, Table 3 illustrates some definitions for quantitative descriptors mentioned by many
authors. Santamarina and Cho, 2001 2004; Cho et al., 2006, and Rosé et al., 2008 manifested the
influence of the particle s roundness R on the void ratio range of different sands, as illustrated in
Figure 2a. While Miura et al. 1997 1998 proposed A2D to the correlations of the void ratio range at a
specific given D50, as shown in Figure 2b, also, they pointed out that most of the natural sand samples
have A2D between 300 600. Additionally, Chapuis, 2012, proposed empirical formulas for emax and
emin with the roundness factor of the particles as in Equations 12 13 respectively depending on data
gathered by Youd, 1973, and Krumbein and Sloss, 1963. [12] [13] On the other hand, the problem not

Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi
While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in youth
psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became interested in
clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and Behavior (YPB)
laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college. After learning the
dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social,
developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and
mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research.
For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at
Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted
research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused
on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental
health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a
wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in
the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it
catalyzed my progress as an undergraduate researcher.
Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously

International Relations Between The United States And...
The international relationships between the United States and other nations are of extreme importance.
These relationships effect the economies, security, and continuous development of the global
populace. In a world of many states, international collaboration can be beneficial to all parties
involved. This collaboration allows the various sovereign states to promote peace, negotiate
differences, and apply military power when peaceful resolutions cannot be reached. While the United
States works globally through its own USAID offices, they also make foreign decisions with the
United Nations, NATO, and through various alliances. The efforts pursued through these organizations
assist in the composition of the Foreign Policy for the United States.
The United States Agency for International Development was created by President John Kennedy in
1961 via executive order (USAID, 2015). The website declares that the organization works to end
extreme poverty and to promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing our security and
prosperity by partnering with lands that need assistance. The assisted development has never come
free of charge from the United States. The sanctioned support must provide a gain of some type for
America despite the presidential claim to be aspired by more. According to the history section of
USAID, John Kennedy stated There is no escaping our obligations: our moral obligations as a wise
leader and good neighbor in the interdependent community

New York Vs South Compare And Contrast
New York has been prodigious. You should have tagged along with me. New York is incredibly
different to the South. I have visited so many places. I have visited factories, and other cities. It is just
incredible how different the North and South are. But I truly think that the South is better in many
reasons.
Compared to the South the North is for sure a lot colder. People here told me that the weather that they
get is warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. I truly love the snow but the only problem is
that we couldn t make profit with our plants because the region has rocky hills and most of the land is
infertile. The economy here is by far different. They have industries, shipping, textiles, lumbers, furs,
and mining. They use the

Argument For Moderate Objectivism
An argument for ethical objectivism would be Pojman and Fieser s moderate objectivism. According
to them, a moral claim is objectively true when it describes an objective moral principle. An objective
moral principle is a rule that, if generally followed, would optimally perform the function of serving
human needs and interests by reducing harmful social conflict and promoting beneficial social
cooperation. (Luco, Week 6 Notes p.1)
This is the reconstruction of Pojman and Fieser s Argument for Moderate Objectivism
1. Common human nature: Human nature is relatively similar in the sense that human beings have a
common set of basic needs and interest
2. Functionality Thesis: Moral principles are instituted to perform the function of meeting ... Show

In addition, careful analysis of simple moral principles can also lead to the conclusion that the
functionality thesis is true. Using the example that we should keep our promises to people as a moral
principle, Pojman and Fieser do mention that if a world were to cease obeying it, contracts and
agreements would no longer hold any value. (Luco, Week 6 Notes, p.11) It is not difficult to imagine
that in many societies where transactions and contracts are made daily, from bank loans to bicycle
rentals, without the moral principle of keeping promises and honouring contracts, the individuals who
enter into an agreement would no longer see the need to honour their contracts. As a result, business
would fail and chaos would ensue in the society. Further empirical evidence can be seen from Steven
Pinker s research from A History of Violence was conducted over different time periods and it also
supports the functionality thesis in the sense that people with stronger reasoning abilities do construct
practices and institutions to meet their interest. (Luco, Week 6 Notes, p.

Level Of Exercise Analysis
Focusing on one thing. Your workouts should a variety of exercises, including the following training
components: flexibility, core, balance, agility, quickness, resistance and cardiovascular.
Exercising too hard. Extremely intense exercise is actually less effective than sustaining a moderate
workout for a longer period of time. The proper level of exercise should produce a light sweat and get
your heart beating in your target zone.
Not drinking, or drinking too little. Just because you don t feel thirsty during your workout doesn t
mean you should drink! Don t wait until you re thirsty because at that point you re probably already
dehydrated. Drink water during your workout to stay hydrated.
Not warming up. Start your workout slowly and then gradually increase your intensity. Muscles need

Cool downs should include 5 10 minutes of light cardiovascular training and stretching. This gives
your body a smooth transition from exercise to a state of rest. It also helps lower blood pressure and
minimizes soreness.
Lifting too much weight. Lifting more weight than you can handle will result in injury. If you find
yourself jerking or bouncing to lift weights, you re putting unnecessary stress on your joints and
muscles. This can lead to sprains, muscle spasms and back injuries. Start out light and increase weight
as your strength increases.
Misunderstanding soreness. Many people believe that chemical imbalances (lactic acid, lack of iron,
etc.) cause you to be sore after a workouts. Soreness is actually caused by small tears in the muscle
and connective tissue. This is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and it s very common
after an intense workout.

Interoperability In Healthcare
Introduction
Interoperability is often a word frequently used as a goal to strive for when improving healthcare in
the United States. Encouraging the utilization of health information exchange has been cited as a
potential way to improve efficiency, increase safety, and enhance quality of care. There are numerous
examples of how linking information between multiple data sources leads to a non trivial task. When
two operations are collecting the same data, but are recording information in different formats, it can
be nearly impossible to bridge the information between those systems. Standards are important
because they can facilitate mutual understanding during in regards to communication and health
measures in the context of population health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drugs that a clinician or researcher may view as a single medication are distinguished by a multitude
of various codes. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2965522/ For example, if a
researcher wanted to compare the effect of taking 81 mg/1 aspirin, they would not be able to easily
find the same drug produced by two manufactures solely by looking at the NDC codes. If they were to
look at 81 mg/1 coated tablet aspirin for the distributors Chain Drug Consortium and Preferred
Pharmaceuticals, Inc Aspirin, the respective NDC numbers are 68016 642 12 and 68788 0186 2.
When looking at the patterns in the numbers, there is no simple way to deduce that these drugs are the
same. http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ndc/dsp_searchresult.cfm To combat this, the NIH
combines the NDC codes with their own database, RxNorm, which provides normalized names for
many generic and branded drugs. This database was fortified from a knowledgebase from the
healthcare industry company First Databank.

Differences Between Diurnal And Nocturnal Primates
I chose to write my paper on the differences between diurnal and nocturnal primates. I chose this topic
because I thought it sounded interesting. I also chose it because I have horrible night vision and have
trouble driving at night, so I thought it would be cool to learn how certain primates live in darkness
and how their eyes work. This topic is relevant to biological anthropology because we learned about
all different types of primates throughout the course and their characteristics including: social
behaviors, diets, nocturnal vs. diurnal, and many other aspects of primate life. We didn t get to go into
detail about many of the primates and see the differences in nocturnal versus diurnal. In my paper I
decided to key in on two specific animals, the owl money and brown lemur. I did this because I
wanted to get to know more about each animal and the owl monkey has a very unique story. I also
chose to narrow in on the main difference between all diurnal and nocturnal animals and that is the
eyes. In my paper I will talk about the behavioral differences between the owl monkey and brown
lemur (I will also go into some detail about each of the primates, because I thought they both were
fascinating), the differences in the eyes, and also just some other general facts about diurnal and
nocturnal primates. The first thing I m going to talk about is the differences in the eyes of nocturnal
and diurnal primates. One thing that is very fascinating to me is that many primates

Tokugawa Iemitsu Research Paper
History is an important aspect in the community as it assists people to understand the past and learn
about the growth and development of a civilization or an individual. Studying the historical events
gives an understanding of how this world came to be, including the different cultures of people and
the surroundings. For instance, Shogunate Japan was a significant historic event. This is because for
250 years, the Tokugawa period brought peace and order in Japan, it aided to enrich and preserve
Japan s culture as seen present today. Shoguns were Japan s military leaders who were given the title
by the emperors. For over 200 years, Japan was ruled by a series of Tokugawa shoguns, which began
in 1603 and ended in 1867. During the Tokugawa period, also known as The Edo period, many
cultures and traditions were developed. Men and women from all social classes engaged in the
traditional arts of music, painting, calligraphy and poetic forms called haiku. A famous individual
known for this period is Tokugawa Iemitsu. He was the third Shogun of the Tokugawa dynasty and is
well known for introducing the period of isolation in Japan. Tokugawa Iemitsu is an extremely

Edgar Vilhelm. Aspiring author, playwriter, sound mixer, multi instrumentalist, and multi media artist.
As a self described jack of all trades, master of none , Edgar surely doesn t carry the attitude of master

I think the first story I wrote was a Godzilla knock off, which I called Space Monster. I even made a
sequel for it a little while later lol. Next big writing project I remember was in 4th grade, for science
class. Our teacher told us to write a story about the changes between states of matter, and molecules
moving. The first one ended up being a parody of Star Wars, in which my friends and I turned into
Star Wars characters and went to space to battle aliens who destroyed the sun. When I was in
elementary school, I and some friends of mine took the Space Monster concept and decided to go in
sort of an Ultraman direction with it, by trying to make it into a show and having it be sort of a
monster of the week thing, in which every episode, Space Monster would have to battle new monsters.
I tell you, I was drawing kaiju left and right for that. The stories were really fucking involved as well.
Next, around 5th 6th grade, I began getting into anime. Hence, I started coming up with anime
characters, and demons for them to fight, and such. More recently, I ve shifted the focus onto poetry,
and found my style becoming more aligned with the gritty realists, like Bukowski, Carver, Ginsberg,
and Heston. Poetry isn t any more than a hobby for me self therapy, to put it better. I view it as
language unhinged. I use whatever visuals or words I need to convey exactly how I

This essay proves that graduating students in Ontario should only study literature in a Grade 12

written by Canadian writers. This is because all Ontario students should become familiar with
literature from our province. Three reasons for this are; the need to focus on our own Canadian culture
and despite being surrounded by many other cultures, the need to promote and establish our own
writers is there, as well as the need to encourage younger Canadian authors.

Bouncing Back By Melissa Balmain Analysis
Resilience People have learned to be resilient in order to overcome serious hardships. A person s
resilience can be seen through how they handle bad experiences; to be resilient in the face of
adversity. People who never give up and always fight back even when it gets hard are resilient. Some
believe that resilience is a trait that can be learned. In the article Bouncing Back by Melissa Balmain;
she writes about different people s hardships and how they learned to be resilient because of their
tenacious experiences. Balmain recounts Jennifer Loredo, a master sergeant in the army who was

Many people throughout history have also faced adversity and have been resilient through it. For
example, Tyler Perry; he had a terrible childhood, he was physically and sexually abused as a child,
kicked out of high school, and tried to commit suicide twice in his lifetime. Still, through all his
hardships, he produced and starred in his first theater production, I Know I ve Been Changed, which
failed. Therefore he obtained odd jobs to pay for the production; finally on the seventh run the show
broke through. Through all his hardships he never gave up and today has a successful career as a
writer, director, and actor. Oprah Winfrey also endured a rough childhood because of sexual abuse, she
had a child at fourteen who passed away two weeks after. She continued on to finish high school with
honors and get a scholarship for college. She worked her way up from TV anchor to a creator of her
own network. Scientist Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS and through his colleague, friends,
and family s support he became a great scientist. Through his perseverance Hawking managed many
accomplishments such as his published book on the theories of the Big Bang. Nelson Mandela was
also a person with great resilience who dreamed of racial equality and spent 27 years in prison for it. I

Although the world of the Shaman was much different from the colossal buildings of social and
political order, both the shaman and the graffiti artist appear as the insurgent shadows of creativity in a

capitalist social order. They like the shaman understand their art as ideological statements and

White Supremacism In African Americans
Introduction
Who has the authority to tell anyone they re lesser than a white man? White supremacy is egregious,
and can hurt a whole race. Today the writer is going to write about white supremacy. It was the worst
thing to happen to America, and has consumed a great deal of our history. From Ancient Egypt to
today, 2016, white supremacists have prowled the earth. The height of popularity for this social
phenomenon was during the European colonial expansion, which was in the eighteen hundreds when
many countries started to adopt the idea. Many countries soon after, dropped the idea of slavery, but
then proceeded with racism in various ways. This paper will include discussion of segregation, slavery

a beautiful and calm train ride to several wineries that begins at 10:30 AM, with lunch included. The
first stop is at Charles Krug Winery, a St. Helena AVA, that is one of the oldest wineries in Napa
Valley, founded in 1861 by the Russian immigrant, Charles Krug. Charles Krug is noted as launching
the cider press for winemaking, which is still on display at his winery today. This AVA is covered by
the Western Hills, with less wind, and a warm climate. The summers get very hot ranging in the high

600 feet with the rainfall from 38 to 40 inches each year. The south and west region soils contain
gravel clay soil, with modest water retention and little fertility, whereas, the north and east region soils
are deeper and much more fertile. Their fourth vintage of their limited release Sauvignon Blanc is a

Effects Of Urbanisation On The Hydrology Of A Catchment
Question 1 a) Explain the affects that Urbanisation can have on the hydrology of a catchment. Outline
how SuDs can mitigate these impacts and explain the role and features of the following systems:
Permeable pavements Swale Detention Ponds Urbanisation affects the hydrology of a catchment in
various ways, it causes issues with the natural drainage of the environment by blocking stream
channels and removing trees which help break the momentum of rain. Urbanisation creates a lot of
surfaces that are impermeable which causes water build up, the water picks up pollutants and
chemicals and these are dispersed into streams and rivers. Roads and pavements collect rainwater and
channel it into waterways rather than letting it disperse into the ground, like it would if it had not had
any human intervention. SuDs have been introduced within construction projects now in order mimic
the natural drainage pattern of a specific area, these SuDs that are now being introduced are aiding
urban developments in allowing surface water to be managed well without causing any impact on
other sites. Permeable paving comes in a range of materials, it was designed to allow water through a
surface that would have usually be impermeable, they are generally used on pathways, lawns and
roads that only take light vehicle movements. They essentially reduce surface water run off, which
traps solids and filters some pollutants from the water, they also give urban trees the chance to grow to

Bernard Malamud The Natural Essay
Everyone has a passion in life. Whether it s gardening, teaching, designing clothes, or whatever else it
may be, everybody lives for something. For Roy Hobbs in Bernard Malamud s The Natural, his
passion is baseball. Roy lives, breathes, and loves baseball with all of his heart, mind, and soul. Roy,
wants more than anything to be the greatest baseball player to ever play. The problem with this is life
is not easy. Nothing ever goes exactly as planned. Malamud puts Roy through phenomenal stress and
adversity on his journey to accomplish his goal of being the best. The Natural is easily relatable
because it s not just a baseball book, but a book about the adversities in life, and the willingness one
has to overcome.
Without heroes, we are all plain people and don t know how far we can go (Malamud 154.) This quote
perfectly describes Malamuds intentions when creating the character Roy Hobbs. Malamud grew up in
a time when baseball utterly dominated the sporting world, and Malamud grew up where baseball
players were heros (An Interview with Bernard Malamud). Baseball players were seen as larger ...

exemplifies how Roy should learn from his past, and not act like it didn t happen. It shows that Roy
should be proud that he overcame what he did, but he can t change what happened. And since he can t
change it, all theirs left to do is live on. Iris is telling Roy he should feel almost blessed about what
happened. Roy certainly did suffer. Yet, that suffering led him to meet good people in his life such as

The Effect Of Velocity On A Flat Plate Boundary Layer
Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to measure the magnitude of velocity in a flat plate
boundary layer in which the pressure was constant. A pitot tube located at the top of the test section
that was used to determine the total pressure across the boundary layer. The Pitot tube needed to be
able to more along both horizontal and vertical directions for accurate measurements. Five different
tubes, aligned along the x axis, were placed under the wind tunnel test section to measure the static
pressure. The result of both the static and total pressures is the dynamic pressure.
Theory:
The boundary layer is defined as a thin layer of any fluid adjacent to the solid surface it surrounds.
The characteristics of a boundary layer are basically what define the effects of viscosity. The velocity
of the boundary layer starts from a value of zero at the solid surface and increases until it reaches a
maximum which happens to be the free stream velocity. In other words, theoretically speaking the
boundary layer is infinite, but for measurement purposes the boundary layers ends where the velocity
gradient is 99% of the free stream velocity. The Reynolds number, a unit less ratio of inertial forces to
viscous forces, is used to identify the several inner layers of the boundary layer. Furthermore, as
previously mentioned when a body parallel to the flow, such as a flat plate, is placed in the parallel
direction of a free stream flow, a boundary layer is formed. At the

Inequality In Kathryn Stockett s The Help
Let s stop believing that our differences make us superior or inferior to one another Don Miguel Ruiz.
The novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a controversial and heart wrenching story that depicts the
cruel brutality and inequality that African Americans faced in Jackson, Mississippi during the early
1960 s. In the novel Stockett shows the inequality between races, how Caucasian Americans believed
they were superior, and the bigotry between social classes through the characterization of the main
characters and bringing forth facts from that time setting.
Skeeter, one of the protagonists, is used in the Help as an outlet that is middle class stuck in a high
class society. She is humble due to her maid s wise words and is taught that ... Show more content on

Stockett creates this character to combat the sweetness of the character of Aibileen. Minny is placed in
this story to represent the feeling of hatred within many African Americans and the struggle to
swallow the wrongdoings just because she is told. In the Help, Minny talks back and uses sarcasm to
mask her vulnerability. She originally works for Hilly s mother but once Hilly decides to viciously
place her mother in a nursing home she demands that Minny be her maid instead, which is directly
refused. Hilly uses her high social class power and her racist feelings to blackmail Minny. She spreads
rumors to keep Minny from working anywhere but once Minny is fed up with her shenanigans she
instead bakes her a terrible awful pie . Stockett uses the pie made of feces to target Hilly s racist belief
that African Americans carry diseases. In essence, by feeding Hilly two slices of excrement pie
without her getting sick, Minny illustrates in an extreme way the simple truth that African Americans
do not carry racially specific diseases. Once she agrees to helping Miss Skeeter Minny tells this story
as a way to ensure that they won t get caught. She uses Hilly s evil mindset to come up with the idea
that if Hilly was to find out who was writing this book she could not tell authorities because she would
then be telling on herself. While helping Skeeter Minny works for a woman named Celia,

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven, And The...
In Battle Royal , The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven , and The Things They Carried , all
three authors focus on the actions of the lead characters, and how the past reflects on their behavior
and decisions in the present. These three stories have several things in common: The protagonists are
haunted by someone or something, which causes their struggle with their self identity. To be specific,
the main characters are constantly troubled by a close one that they lost, and also by personal events,
which then results in them being confused and lost on who they should be and how they should
behave in society. Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison talks about a young, ginger colored man, who feels
contradicted on how he should act in a society where people of color are still oppressed, and at the
same time where the word equality is a sensitive expression. The protagonist, who is remained
nameless and invisible throughout the narrative, is the narrator of the whole story and he describes
that, He was an odd old guy, my grandfather, and I am told I take after him (Ellison 1142). This points
out that our young protagonist might have been a modest and timid person, because his grandfather
had been the meekest of men (1142). Just before reaching his last breathe, his grandfather confesses
about being a traitor and a spy in the enemy s country (1142). To the protagonist, It was as though he
had not died at all, his words caused so much anxiety (1143). His

South Afric A Country Found At The Southern Tip Of Africa...
Background Information
South Africa is a country found at the southern tip of Africa that boasts of a relatively rich history.
Dutch traders arrived at the south most tip of present day South Africa in 1652 and built a stopover
point on the path that was used to transport spice between Holland and the Far East, consequently
instituting the town of Cape Town. After the British captured the Cape of Good Hope area in 1806,
many of the Dutch residents fled to the north to institute their own republics in areas taken from the
indigenous African populace (Beck, 2014). The exposition of gemstones and silver stimulated
prosperity and immigration and increased the subjugation of the local population. The Afrikaners
opposed English encroachments but were beaten in the Second South African War (1899 1902);
nonetheless, the English and the Afrikaners, continued to rule over South Africa in 1910 under the
Union of South Africa. Following a whites only referendum, South Africa became a republic in 1961
(Thompson Berat, 2014).
In 1948, the National Party, which was widely Afrikaner dominated, was elected into power and
implemented a protocol of apartheid the individualized growth of the races which highly privileged
the white colored community at the cost of the Africans who ironically represented the majority. The
African National Congress (ANC) led the resistance to apartheid and many top ANC pioneers and
leaders, such as Nelson Mandela, were captured and spent a long time in South

Personality Typology Self Assessment Paper
Personality Typology Self Assessment Kaitlyn C. Aurigemma St. Petersburg College After taking Jung
s typology test I received the personality type INTJ. The introvert score given was a 59 percent,
intuitive 16 percent, thinking 25 percent and judging 56 percent. Based on these scores I took a look at
what my strengths would be. According to the website used to take the test one strength would be that
INTJ s are perfectionist while some may consider this a bit of a weakness, I don t think it s such a bad
thing. INTJ see that there is always room to improve and learn more, especially about things that they
find interesting. Another strength is having the combination of both imagination and reliability, this is
good when it comes to working on projects or coming up with an idea for something, because not only
can you envision what it will be but you can decide realistically if it will work. Butt and Heiss (n.d.)
say that INTJ s are also good at seeing opportunities other people may not. The high introvert score
indicates I am much better at working alone then with the help of others, and normally working on
something until it is completed. When it comes to other strengths, INTJ s will work extremely hard in
relationships and are very good at picking up people s emotions. This is part of the intuitive
dimension. Thinkers are good at making strong decisions based on rational information rather than ...

Essay On Armoured Cars
The Armoured car, an original idea by Leonardo Da Vinci was a goliath in its time. Even though it was
never used a lot it was still a goliath. I believe that Leonardo Da Vinci s armoured car was the most
important because it was the breakthrough in war technology due to its modern use of new weaponry.
Originally the armoured car was a scare tactic to intimidate the enemy with this big new weapon.
Instead, Leonardo designed it to be a complex fortified weapon that will intimidate as well as kill.
Even though it was only a blueprint his invention shaped the way modern warfare by adding death
bigger death machines as well as complex machinery that is portable and efficient.
The use of the modern weaponry with Leonardo s armoured car was the more portable use of cannons.
Back then cannons were usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As described in the body paragraphs above the armoured car was the idea of putting technology,
portability, armour and weaponry together to make an idea for a new war machine. Let s step back to
the reason why it was thought up in the first place. Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, asking for a new
weapon/scare tactic. Leonardo jumped on this idea and came up with the armoured car. In his letter to
the Duke of Milan he wrote, I can make armored cars, safe and unassailable, which will enter the
closed ranks of the enemy with their artillery, and no company of soldiers is so great that it will not
break through them. And behind these our infantry will be able to follow quite unharmed and without
any opposition. Although it was never built the armoured car eventually became classified as a tank
and was the base of the first real tanks. Since he put portability, armour, weaponry, technology
together, and Leonardo Da Vinci s idea, we now have our modern tanks that protect troops across the
world. This is why I believe that the armoured car was the most important invention during the

Summary Of The Article Easter Island By Jared Diamond
In the article by Jared Diamond, many interesting theories are discussed about Easter Island s history
and decline. Diamond makes connections to the environmental challenges we face today and he
compares the catastrophe of Easter Island to our current over consumption of natural resources. While
this article makes for an interesting read, much of it is offered from a single perspective and little
counter evidence is offered. The author writes in a way that could engage a non academic audience
who may not be interested in counter evidence, or proper referencing. The article lacks credibility due
to its narrow scope and conversational diction. At the root of this discussion however, is the notion
that the Rapa Nui people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his arguments, the author uses his own point of view, information from other people s research, and
from historical voyages without offering any proper references. Additionally, the author uses non
academic language to inspire literary imagery in order to make the article more attractive to potential
readers. This article does make for an interesting read, but it is far from accurate. In my opinion, the
author has cherry picked the evidence in order to create a scenario where the blame for the demise of
the ecosystem was places squarely on the native s shoulders which discounts any natural factors that
could have happened. The Rapa Nui were a complex society of people who utilized the land in
innovative ways. Indeed something catastrophic did take place, and I do not know exactly what that
was, but I do not believe it was solely greed and consumption that caused the downfall of an entire
society as the author would have you believe. The author mentions the use of carbon dating, pollen
analysis, archaeology, and paleontology to help develop a time frame of when the island was settled,
and when it encountered problems. This should have been discussed in more detail with proper
referencing in order to strengthen this article. These diciplines are useful and necessary to form a
forensic picture of what the island would have been like, and when it would have started to decline.

Understanding Pro Social Behaviour Among Humans ( Cikara )
The ability for an individual to recognize another s suffering and experience the same emotions to
some extent is common in order to promote pro social behaviour among humans (Cikara, Bruneau,
Van Bavel, Saxe, 2014). This ability to empathize with others begins early on and is motivated by the
need to alleviate the distress in another when they are suffering. As noted by de Waal (2008), empathy
occurs quickly and automatically as a way to respond to the emotional states of others, in turn being a
major part of social interactions, coordinated activity, and cooperation toward shared goals. Thus, de
Waal (2008) discusses the three different levels of empathy, among which are emotional contagion,
sympathetic concern, and empathic perspective taking. Firstly, emotional contagion is simply about
automatic sharing as the individual takes on the emotional state of another even without any
understanding of the other (de Waal, 2008). Next, de Waal (2008) suggests sympathetic concern is
when an individual attempts to understand and reduce distress in the other (i.e. comforting behaviour),
as there is knowledge that the response is about the other. Lastly, empathic perspective taking occurs
when an individual is dependent on imagination and mental state attribution as it is entirely about the
other and separate from the self (de Waal, 2008).
There is much research done to suggest that there are failures in peoples ability to empathize (Cikara

Analyzing Kate Chopin s The Storm

The Storm In the story, The Storm, Kate Chopin tells a reader about what had occurred during a storm
that passed by. The story goes into detail about two main characters, Alcee Laballiere and Calixta, and
the setting. Also, the other characters in the passage were Bibi, Bobinot, and Clarissa. The setting had
took place at store called Friedheimer s, and Calixta s house during a dark, stormy, and dreary day. In

Even though Kate gets into detail of The Storm, she begins the story of Bobinot and Bibi at the
Friedheimer s store during the storm. They decided to stay at the store until the storm had passed. Bibi
is a four year old little boy, and he looked very clever. Also, Bobinot was Bibi s father. They were told
to go to Friedheimer s, a wooden store, to buy shrimp for their dinner. Bobinot explained that this
storm were somber clouds that developed in the west of part, along with a threatening roar of lighting

Comparing Trudeau s Polyethnic Background And Culture
Canada s identity is tremendously challenging to delineate, due to encompassing a vast population of
various cultures, traditions, and values spanning an enormous landmass. From various historical
perspectives, Canadian identity has changed over the course of the last century valuing discrete
ideologies through various time periods. Due to various government policies and acts, as well as
reformed beliefs and ideas regarding large social issues, Canada s identity has shifted and constantly
renewed its identity over the course of the past half century.
Major government policies and acts were headway into creating Canada s modern day identity. The
Immigration Act of 1976 changed Canada s perspective on immigration eligibility, and majorly
contributed towards structuring Canada s polyethnic background and culture. Prime Minister Pierre
Trudeau grew up in an extremely discriminatory climate, and believed that Canada should inherit
collective identity. Trudeau endorsed immigration to built Canada s diverse ethnic culture, and

How Opponents to Gay Marriage Offer Illusory Arguments
How Opponent to Gay Marriage offer Illusory Arguments
The book The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us by Chabris and Simons truly makes a
strong case for how six different types of illusions (or beliefs) truly disserve the human population.
The six common illusions that the book discusses are the illusion of memory, the illusion of
confidence, the illusion of knowledge, the illusion of cause and the illusion of potential. Chabris and
Simon argue that one can see these illusions at work in a range of human interactions and current
events. Sometimes these illusions demonstrate the fallibility of the human mind; sometimes they just
demonstrate the need of human beings to impose meaning or order upon things or events which lack
both.
A current issue that demonstrates several of the six illusions that Chabris and Simons discuss is the
debate over gay marriage. Those who oppose gay marriage often demonstrate an argument which is
full of illusory and shoddy ideas. For example, one of the main arguments against gay marriage is that
allowing homosexuals to marry will destroy the institution of marriage. This demonstrates the illusion
of cause. The illusion of cause arises when we see patterns in randomness, and we are most likely to
see patterns when we think we understand what is causing them (Chabris Simons, p.155). The work of
Stanley Kurtz tried to prove that allowing same sex marriage in Denmark, Norway and Sweden
decreased the rate of heterosexual marriage

  • 2. Synaptic Geotechnical Factors Influencing The Standard... In fact, several synaptic geotechnical factors influence the standard penetration test results of similar sand soils. Testing procedures attribute part of these mutations, therefore, normalizing the results to a standard rod energy ratio usually eliminate such processes quandaries (e.g., Skempton, 1986). Frequently, changes in test methods, samplers, hammers, and rods lead to corresponding variations in N values due to the generated energy losses. Numerous researchers (e.g., Daniel et al., 2003 and Skempton, 1986) suggested a standard dynamic energy about 60% of the hammer potential energy (475J) to improve such losses as shown below: [1] Where ENTHRU is, the measured dynamic energy transmitted from the hammer to the drilling rods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overview has revealed that there is no standard quantitative description in the geotechnical domain utilized to characterize the particle s shape. In other words, since there is no standard quantitative description employed in the geotechnical domain for the particle s shape, ignorance took place. Nevertheless, many researchers (e.g., Michell and Soga, 2005; Arasan et al., 2010, and Rodriguez et al., 2013) agreed to define the particle shape as shown in Figure 1 and Table 2. Furthermore, Table 3 illustrates some definitions for quantitative descriptors mentioned by many authors. Santamarina and Cho, 2001 2004; Cho et al., 2006, and Rosé et al., 2008 manifested the influence of the particle s roundness R on the void ratio range of different sands, as illustrated in Figure 2a. While Miura et al. 1997 1998 proposed A2D to the correlations of the void ratio range at a specific given D50, as shown in Figure 2b, also, they pointed out that most of the natural sand samples have A2D between 300 600. Additionally, Chapuis, 2012, proposed empirical formulas for emax and emin with the roundness factor of the particles as in Equations 12 13 respectively depending on data gathered by Youd, 1973, and Krumbein and Sloss, 1963. • 3. Psychology At The University Of Southern Mississippi While studying psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, I developed an interest in youth psychological health and social well being. As an avid learner, I subsequently became interested in clinical child research and joined Dr. Christopher T. Barry s Youth Personality and Behavior (YPB) laboratory as a volunteer research assistant during my sophomore year of college. After learning the dynamics of working in a research laboratory, and taking courses such as adolescent, social, developmental, and personality psychology, my interest in interpersonal relationships, personality, and mental health solidified. From then on, I sought to expand my experiences in undergraduate research. For example, I participated in my first independent research experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign through the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). I conducted research in the clinical/community division of the psychology department, and my research focused on how juvenile delinquency, ADHD, and perceptions of youth s control in choosing their own mental health service impacted the magnitude of caregiver(s) strain. From my SROP experience, I learned a wealth of information about tabulating data, from coding variables to running statistical analyses in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). SROP was a wonderful experience, and it catalyzed my progress as an undergraduate researcher. Shortly after my SROP experience, I began simultaneously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. International Relations Between The United States And... The international relationships between the United States and other nations are of extreme importance. These relationships effect the economies, security, and continuous development of the global populace. In a world of many states, international collaboration can be beneficial to all parties involved. This collaboration allows the various sovereign states to promote peace, negotiate differences, and apply military power when peaceful resolutions cannot be reached. While the United States works globally through its own USAID offices, they also make foreign decisions with the United Nations, NATO, and through various alliances. The efforts pursued through these organizations assist in the composition of the Foreign Policy for the United States. The United States Agency for International Development was created by President John Kennedy in 1961 via executive order (USAID, 2015). The website declares that the organization works to end extreme poverty and to promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing our security and prosperity by partnering with lands that need assistance. The assisted development has never come free of charge from the United States. The sanctioned support must provide a gain of some type for America despite the presidential claim to be aspired by more. According to the history section of USAID, John Kennedy stated There is no escaping our obligations: our moral obligations as a wise leader and good neighbor in the interdependent community ... I have visited factories, and other cities. It is just incredible how different the North and South are. But I truly think that the South is better in many reasons. Compared to the South the North is for sure a lot colder. People here told me that the weather that they get is warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. I truly love the snow but the only problem is that we couldn t make profit with our plants because the region has rocky hills and most of the land is infertile. The economy here is by far different. • 7. Argument For Moderate Objectivism An argument for ethical objectivism would be Pojman and Fieser s moderate objectivism. According to them, a moral claim is objectively true when it describes an objective moral principle. An objective moral principle is a rule that, if generally followed, would optimally perform the function of serving human needs and interests by reducing harmful social conflict and promoting beneficial social cooperation. (Luco, Week 6 Notes p.1) This is the reconstruction of Pojman and Fieser s Argument for Moderate Objectivism 1. Common human nature: Human nature is relatively similar in the sense that human beings have a common set of basic needs and interest 2. Functionality Thesis: Moral principles are instituted to perform the function of meeting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, careful analysis of simple moral principles can also lead to the conclusion that the functionality thesis is true. Using the example that we should keep our promises to people as a moral principle, Pojman and Fieser do mention that if a world were to cease obeying it, contracts and agreements would no longer hold any value. (Luco, Week 6 Notes, p.11) It is not difficult to imagine that in many societies where transactions and contracts are made daily, from bank loans to bicycle rentals, without the moral principle of keeping promises and honouring contracts, the individuals who enter into an agreement would no longer see the need to honour their contracts. As a result, business would fail and chaos would ensue in the society. Further empirical evidence can be seen from Steven Pinker s research from A History of Violence was conducted over different time periods and it also supports the functionality thesis in the sense that people with stronger reasoning abilities do construct practices and institutions to meet their interest. Encouraging the utilization of health information exchange has been cited as a potential way to improve efficiency, increase safety, and enhance quality of care. • 10. Differences Between Diurnal And Nocturnal Primates I chose to write my paper on the differences between diurnal and nocturnal primates. I chose this topic because I thought it sounded interesting. I also chose it because I have horrible night vision and have trouble driving at night, so I thought it would be cool to learn how certain primates live in darkness and how their eyes work. This topic is relevant to biological anthropology because we learned about all different types of primates throughout the course and their characteristics including: social behaviors, diets, nocturnal vs. diurnal, and many other aspects of primate life. We didn t get to go into detail about many of the primates and see the differences in nocturnal versus diurnal. In my paper I decided to key in on two specific animals, the owl money and brown lemur. I did this because I wanted to get to know more about each animal and the owl monkey has a very unique story. I also chose to narrow in on the main difference between all diurnal and nocturnal animals and that is the eyes. In my paper I will talk about the behavioral differences between the owl monkey and brown lemur (I will also go into some detail about each of the primates, because I thought they both were fascinating), the differences in the eyes, and also just some other general facts about diurnal and nocturnal primates. The first thing I m going to talk about is the differences in the eyes of nocturnal and diurnal primates. One thing that is very fascinating to me is that many primates ... When I was in elementary school, I and some friends of mine took the Space Monster concept and decided to go in sort of an Ultraman direction with it, by trying to make it into a show and having it be sort of a monster of the week thing, in which every episode, Space Monster would have to battle new monsters. I tell you, I was drawing kaiju left and right for that. The stories were really fucking involved as well. Next, around 5th 6th grade, I began getting into anime. Hence, I started coming up with anime characters, and demons for them to fight, and such. More recently, I ve shifted the focus onto poetry, and found my style becoming more aligned with the gritty realists, like Bukowski, Carver, Ginsberg, and Heston. Poetry isn t any more than a hobby for me self therapy, to put it better. I view it as language unhinged. I use whatever visuals or words I need to convey exactly how I ... They like the shaman understand their art as ideological statements and symbolic transformative instruments for initiating social change. • 22. Effects Of Urbanisation On The Hydrology Of A Catchment Question 1 a) Explain the affects that Urbanisation can have on the hydrology of a catchment. Outline how SuDs can mitigate these impacts and explain the role and features of the following systems: Permeable pavements Swale Detention Ponds Urbanisation affects the hydrology of a catchment in various ways, it causes issues with the natural drainage of the environment by blocking stream channels and removing trees which help break the momentum of rain. Urbanisation creates a lot of surfaces that are impermeable which causes water build up, the water picks up pollutants and chemicals and these are dispersed into streams and rivers. Roads and pavements collect rainwater and channel it into waterways rather than letting it disperse into the ground, like it would if it had not had any human intervention. SuDs have been introduced within construction projects now in order mimic the natural drainage pattern of a specific area, these SuDs that are now being introduced are aiding urban developments in allowing surface water to be managed well without causing any impact on other sites. Permeable paving comes in a range of materials, it was designed to allow water through a surface that would have usually be impermeable, they are generally used on pathways, lawns and roads that only take light vehicle movements. They essentially reduce surface water run off, which traps solids and filters some pollutants from the water, they also give urban trees the chance to grow to full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Effect Of Velocity On A Flat Plate Boundary Layer Introduction: The purpose of this experiment was to measure the magnitude of velocity in a flat plate boundary layer in which the pressure was constant. A pitot tube located at the top of the test section that was used to determine the total pressure across the boundary layer. The Pitot tube needed to be able to more along both horizontal and vertical directions for accurate measurements. Five different tubes, aligned along the x axis, were placed under the wind tunnel test section to measure the static pressure. The result of both the static and total pressures is the dynamic pressure. Theory: The boundary layer is defined as a thin layer of any fluid adjacent to the solid surface it surrounds. The characteristics of a boundary layer are basically what define the effects of viscosity. The velocity of the boundary layer starts from a value of zero at the solid surface and increases until it reaches a maximum which happens to be the free stream velocity. In other words, theoretically speaking the boundary layer is infinite, but for measurement purposes the boundary layers ends where the velocity gradient is 99% of the free stream velocity. The Reynolds number, a unit less ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces, is used to identify the several inner layers of the boundary layer. Furthermore, as previously mentioned when a body parallel to the flow, such as a flat plate, is placed in the parallel direction of a free stream flow, a boundary layer is formed. At the ... In Battle Royal , The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven , and The Things They Carried , all three authors focus on the actions of the lead characters, and how the past reflects on their behavior and decisions in the present. These three stories have several things in common: The protagonists are haunted by someone or something, which causes their struggle with their self identity. To be specific, the main characters are constantly troubled by a close one that they lost, and also by personal events, which then results in them being confused and lost on who they should be and how they should behave in society. Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison talks about a young, ginger colored man, who feels contradicted on how he should act in a society where people of color are still oppressed, and at the same time where the word equality is a sensitive expression. The protagonist, who is remained nameless and invisible throughout the narrative, is the narrator of the whole story and he describes that, He was an odd old guy, my grandfather, and I am told I take after him (Ellison 1142). This points out that our young protagonist might have been a modest and timid person, because his grandfather had been the meekest of men (1142). Dutch traders arrived at the south most tip of present day South Africa in 1652 and built a stopover point on the path that was used to transport spice between Holland and the Far East, consequently instituting the town of Cape Town. After the British captured the Cape of Good Hope area in 1806, many of the Dutch residents fled to the north to institute their own republics in areas taken from the indigenous African populace (Beck, 2014). The exposition of gemstones and silver stimulated prosperity and immigration and increased the subjugation of the local population. Understanding Pro Social Behaviour Among Humans ( Cikara ) The ability for an individual to recognize another s suffering and experience the same emotions to some extent is common in order to promote pro social behaviour among humans (Cikara, Bruneau, Van Bavel, Saxe, 2014). This ability to empathize with others begins early on and is motivated by the need to alleviate the distress in another when they are suffering. As noted by de Waal (2008), empathy occurs quickly and automatically as a way to respond to the emotional states of others, in turn being a major part of social interactions, coordinated activity, and cooperation toward shared goals. Thus, de Waal (2008) discusses the three different levels of empathy, among which are emotional contagion, sympathetic concern, and empathic perspective taking. Firstly, emotional contagion is simply about automatic sharing as the individual takes on the emotional state of another even without any understanding of the other (de Waal, 2008). Next, de Waal (2008) suggests sympathetic concern is when an individual attempts to understand and reduce distress in the other (i.e. comforting behaviour), as there is knowledge that the response is about the other. Lastly, empathic perspective taking occurs when an individual is dependent on imagination and mental state attribution as it is entirely about the other and separate from the self (de Waal, 2008). There is much research done to suggest that there are failures in peoples ability to empathize (Cikara et al. 2014; Brown, Bradley, Lang, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Opponents to Gay Marriage Offer Illusory Arguments How Opponent to Gay Marriage offer Illusory Arguments The book The Invisible Gorilla: How Our Intuitions Deceive Us by Chabris and Simons truly makes a strong case for how six different types of illusions (or beliefs) truly disserve the human population. The six common illusions that the book discusses are the illusion of memory, the illusion of confidence, the illusion of knowledge, the illusion of cause and the illusion of potential. Chabris and Simon argue that one can see these illusions at work in a range of human interactions and current events. Sometimes these illusions demonstrate the fallibility of the human mind; sometimes they just demonstrate the need of human beings to impose meaning or order upon things or events which lack both. A current issue that demonstrates several of the six illusions that Chabris and Simons discuss is the debate over gay marriage. Those who oppose gay marriage often demonstrate an argument which is full of illusory and shoddy ideas. For example, one of the main arguments against gay marriage is that allowing homosexuals to marry will destroy the institution of marriage. This demonstrates the illusion of cause. The illusion of cause arises when we see patterns in randomness, and we are most likely to see patterns when we think we understand what is causing them (Chabris Simons, p.155). The work of Stanley Kurtz tried to prove that allowing same sex marriage in Denmark, Norway and Sweden decreased the rate of heterosexual marriage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
