The Importance of itrogen in the Growth and Development of...
Nitrogen is the most important nutrient required for growth and development of plants. Earth s
atmosphere contains about 78% nitrogen gas but majority of this remains unavailable to the plants. An
important feature of our planet ecosystem is the nitrogen cycle, by which nitrogen is converted into
different several other forms. The process of conversion involves both biological and non biological
processes. Nitrogen cycle consists of nitrogen fixation, assimilation, mineralization, nitrification and
denitrification (Postgate 1998). The process of conversion of molecular nitrogen to ammonia is known
as nitrogen fixation.
Biological nitrogen fixation is the mechanism of reduction of atmospheric nitrogen to a metabolically
active form exclusively by microorganisms. Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) involves the
enzymatic reduction of N2 to ammonia (NH3 ). Conversion of N2 to ammonia is catalyzed by a
metalloenzyme called nitrogenase. Reaction has a high activation energy because molecular N2 is an
unreactive gas with a triple bond between the two N2 atoms. Therefore, N2 reduction requires at least
8 electrons and 16 ATP moles, 4 ATPs per pair of electrons.
N2 + 8H+ + 8e¯ + 16 ATP = 2NH3 + H2 + 16 ADP + 16 P
Three genetically distinct nitrogenase systems have been found in diazotrophs, namely Nif, Vnf and
Anf in which the active site central metals are Mo, V, and Fe, respectively (Zhao et al 2006). The
enzyme contains two components that are named according to their metal

Gender and Discrimination in Sports: Soccer
How many fans do you see supporting women s Soccer teams? Why are women receiving less
acknowledgements for their success towards sports than men? Do you know any girl who is interested
in playing soccer and is not on the team just because she is a girl? Well I do. Such an incidence
happened in one of my best friend s lives. It took place at my high school back in my country,
Ethiopia. My best friend is really interested in soccer. She will give up anything for it. When we were
in high school, she used to play soccer with the boys in her spare time. The boys used to let her play
only on their trainings because she was not part of the team. So one day, they lost a match with
another high school because one of their best defense players got injured. That day, my best friend
decided to ask the coach if she could be on the team. Disbelief was apparent on his face. He laughed at
her really hard and then told the other team members about her question. Everybody started to make
fun of her. Even though they knew she was the best defense player, they prohibited her to be on their
team just because she was a girl. Due to gender and discrimination, women are experiencing
harassment, lacking job opportunities lacking athletic scholarships and also lacking equality with men
in the sports professions. Historically, women have been

Columbine And Sandy Hook Pop Up
When thinking about school shootings names like Columbine and Sandy Hook pop up. Those are the
most tragic by far, however everyone always ask why such a horrible crime happens, but no one has
never stopped and researched why such hate crimes like those happen. Instead people resort to
Channel 2 or Fox 5 for answers, not realizing that their story isn t the full truth. I am truly against
school shootings; looking for answers myself. If there s one thing I ve picked up from the media is
how they portray school shootings with mental illness, but according to Alfred.edu/teen violence says,
They want to get back at those who hurt them or revenge. Many adults always struggled to realize
why things as vigorous as shootings happens; also fail to realize they are the start of something so
tragic. There are several reasons that lead to a school shooting but only five are common. Revenge as
Justin Nutt states, Is pure hatred showed to relieve stress. (Nutt, J. Dec 14). Many articles tend to base
their beliefs over school shootings on revenge, because of the age and choice of a crime. These crimes
are not random; are particularly committed by an older age male seeking to let go of some type of
stress. You can even use the Florida State shooting in 2014 as an example, The FSU shooter was
dealing with emotional and physiological problems. (Rossman, S., Etters, K.) The student was a
former FSU graduate who was attending law school at Texas Tech University; was staying with a

Speech Steve Jobs Speech
At Stanford s 2005 graduation Steve Jobs spoke to some of the brightest young men and women in the
country. Stanford s graduating class of 2005 heard an inspiring and compelling speech split into three
stories from Steve Jobs life. Steve Jobs used metaphors, repetition, and antithesis creating an inspiring
and compelling argument to never give up on finding and doing what you love.
Steve Jobs split his speech into three stories. The first one was about connecting the dots. The whole
story is a metaphor having dots stand in as actions that you have done and will do. He also points to
how it is impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very
clear looking backward 10 years later. This is elaborating on the previous metaphor. This states that
the actions, dots or in Steve Jobs s case the typography class, at the time seemed to have no clear
purpose. However, later on, you can see how it connects to something else that you have or will do.In
Steve Jobs case, the typography class lead to the Macintosh having different fonts. In his second story
he, talked about love and loss, explaining what happened when his own company, Apple, fired him,
only to have it help in. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. In this
metaphor, he has medicine standing in as being fired from Apple, the awful tasting being how it felt,
and him needing it because it helped him. He followed up that metaphor with another one,

Examples Of Political Paralysis In The Gilded Age
Chapter 23: Political Paralysis in the Gilded Age 1869 1896 1. Roscoe Conkling He was a New Yorker
who was in the Senate and House of Representatives. He was the leader of Stalwarts who supported
the spoils system. 2. James G. Blaine He was Speaker of the House, a Senator, a member of the House
of Representative, Secretary of State twice and he ran for president in the election of 1884 but lost to
Grover Cleveland. He was the leader of the half breeds, which were opposing Stalwarts ideas. 3.
Samuel Tilden He was the attorney who prosecuted Tweed, which gained the fame that made him a
presidential candidate for Democrats. He lost in the election in 1876. 4. Gilded Age It was the time

Compromise of 1877 was written to settle the result of the election of 1876 and ended Reconstruction.
Republicans agreed to get rid of troops in the South and give money to build railroads for the South.
Electoral Count Act was formed by 15 men to resolve such dispute and the compromise worked.
David Davis was the one who broke the tie and the Republicans abandoned racial equality. Civil
Rights Cases (1883) made the Civil Rights Act of 1875 unconstitutional and made African American s
life harsher. 5. Great Railroad Strike of 1877 cut wages of railroad workers by 10 percent, so the
workers stopped working. President Hayes sent troops to stop the workers from stop working and
more than 100 people dead. This event was the start of the conflict between workers and owners. The
conflict between the Irish and Chinese in labor caused terrorization of the Chinese. Chinese Exclusion
Act then was passed to restrict Chinese immigration until 1943. 6. James A. Garfield was the
Republican candidate in the election of 1880 and he won. The Republican candidate for vice president
was the notorious Chester A. Arthur. Charles J. Guiteau shot Garfield at the back in a railroad station
and Garfield died. Garfield s death caused politicians to reform spoils system so the Pendleton Act of
1883 came into play. Therefore, politicians turned to big corporations for

Southwest Airline Case Analysis
Southwest Airline s Strategies:
Southwest Airline s successful strategy consists of three complementary qualities which are focus,
divergence and compelling tagline. This short haul airline believes that by focusing on friendly
service, speed and frequent point to point departures, its low pricing is able to compete against car
transportation. While other competitors try to delight customers by investing in meals, airport lounges
and seating selections, Southwest chooses to eliminate or reduces investments in these industry s
competitive factors. As a result, Southwest s low prices are unbeatable making them the preferred
airline in the industry. With a divergence element in Southwest s strategy, it is able to innovate and
stand apart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first source of competitive advantage is its low price tickets. After the terrorist attacks in Sept
2001 where most of the airlines were making losses due to a decline in air travelers, Southwest was
still in a good shape due to its low cost model. Most of the travelers are willing to give up comfort
such as in flight entertainment and fancy seats for a cheaper ticket. Secondly, cost advantage for
Southwest plays a huge part in its competitive advantage. Only Boeing 737s are used and only coach
seats are offered. This leads to the competency of Southwest s crews on 737 which helps to achieve
faster turnaround time on the ground. Company cost of training, maintenance and inventory decreased
significantly as well. The third competitive advantage is the cultural values that are instilled in
Southwest s organization. Employees are placed first and are armed with tremendous information that
assists in understanding the company s mission, customers and competition. Happy employees lead to
satisfied customers through excellent customer services.
Southwest Airline s Strategic Issues:
While Southwest s excellent strategy should be applauded, there are a few strategic issues that can
weaken its position in the face of various potential challenges. The first strategic issue lies in the
challenge of preserving cultural values with Southwest s growth. This Southwest culture was designed

The South Is Seen As A Romanticize Version Of The United...
Mid Term Exam #3 The South is seen as a romanticize version of the United States. A place where
virtue, honor, and strong religious morals were upheld in common society. However, the recurring
themes that the South would have the role of being the ongoing rebel against most national policies
that gave any sign of hindering their way of life, the concept of individualism, yet keeping its own
societal identity. From the Revolutionary War onwards, the South has been developed as the shining
example of what an American should be like. Slavery was a huge attribute of Southern society, though
looked down upon by the world, it was practiced and eagerly defended by political logic and religious
zeal. One argument is made from a Senator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The South has been criticized for practicing the archaic ways of slavery deeming it: barbaric,
inhumane, and out of touch with the changes of the world. The argument continues through George
Fitzhugh s Southern Thought, Labor pays all taxes, but labor in a slave society is property, and men
will take care of their property. In free society, labor is not property, and there is nothing to shield the
laborer from the grinding weight of taxation all of which he pays, because he produces everything
valuable. (Fitzhugh Southern Thought pg. 823) Furthermore, the identity the South identifies itself as
a place of self worth and pride in what your property can produce while enjoying the fruits of their
labors. A land where taxes cannot take away the riches and treasures that are produced in their fruitful
land. The South possessed identity, and with that identity came the sense of individualism. One of the
leading causes of the Civil War was the belief that the South s sense of individualism was in danger
and to be eradicated from the face of the United States. Ironically, during the Civil War the draft was
enacted into Southern conscriptions making it more of mandatory duty to southerners to join the
military. The first general American military draft was enacted by the Confederate government on
April 16, 1862, more than a year before the federal government did the same. The Confederacy took

Arab Spring Protests
The Arab Spring was a Middle Eastern Anomaly that no one could have predicted. There were protests
before the Arab Spring, but none created this domino effect that Tunisia had to the rest of the Arab
countries. The Arab Spring protests were in the right time of both technological advancement, and
economic concern, that Arab society felt unanimously encouraged and desperate enough to share their
grievances on the government. Scott Anderson exclaims his enthusiasm with the Protests when they
began, like most western observers looking at the Middle East with optimism. Unfortunately, that
optimism was gone once the rulers fought back, or people disagreed with the democratic process. For

Barry Sanders Research Paper
Barry Sanders was, if not the best, one of the greatest football running backs in the history of the NFL.
Barry was a hard worker at home, and that is what carried him in the game of football. This, in the
end, is what helped him achieve a legendary status. In general, Barry Sanders was one of the most
versatile football players, but was also a very quiet person on the inside. Many agree that Barry
Sanders was one of the most versatile players to ever play the game of football. When you tackled
him, you could hardly believe that you had tackled him, and when he got by you, you couldn t believe
how he got by you, said a professional NFL defender. This is just some of the things people that he
had played with said about his elusiveness. Another example of Barry s versatility is different. Barry
was often versatile in the relations with other people. With his parents, this was very common, as
Barry would often by angered at his parent one moment, and friendly with them the next. This
example shows the other ways Barry was versatile, not just in football. In ... Show more content on

that Barry Sanders was quiet even on the football field. In the end, many people now see that

Similarities Between Han China And Imperial Rome
Imperial Rome and Han China were two of the biggest empires during the Classical period. They
shared many of the same qualities, yet they had little to no contact with one another. Imperial Rome
and Han China were similar because they used ideologies to control their citizens rather than religion,
and they were different because Han China had an extensive educated bureaucracy as opposed to
Rome s authoritarian government based on military power.
Han China and Imperial Rome used ideologies to shape their society. In Han China, Confucianism
was used as a basis to control its bureaucrats and citizens. This ideology, created by Confucius,
encouraged moral and cultural unity. It encouraged respect towards authority, and set guidelines for
how an individual should act towards people above their social class and people below their social
class. Han rulers created one of the first civil service tests, requiring applicants to have an
understanding of Confucianism and other early writings to become a bureaucrat. This resulted in a ...

The Importance Of Computers In Communication Codes
As motivated above, it is often necessary to be able to reliably send data over noisy or otherwise
unreliable communication channels. We can use error correction codes to help mitigate the
introduction of errors into our data. To do this, we can divide our data into smaller pieces called
messages and map these messages to codewords through a process called encoding. This process will
provide necessary redundancy to correct a certain number of introduced errors during the decoding
process. An (n, k) block code C is an injective map E : Q k 7→ Q n where Q is a set of symbols called
our alphabet. The size of our alphabet, |Q| is denoted as q. In many practical applications q = 2 where
Q = {0, 1}. E(m) = c maps our message m of length k to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

. . , k, a contradiction. Thus, h(x) = 0 and f(x) = g(x). 3 Thus, the added n − k points provide
redundancy in case an error occurs during transmission of our message. We ll write our received word
as c 0 = (y0, y1, . . . , yn−1). Suppose that an error does occur. Theoretically, we could decode the
message by taking all subsets of size k of (y0, y1, . . . , yn−1) and interpolate each of the k numbers in
each subset to determine a polynomial of degree k − 1. We could then find which polynomial occurs
most often. The coefficients of that polynomial would then be taken as the original message [9].
Obviously we cannot perform this decoding procedure due to computational constraints. We would
need to find n k polynomials which is infeasible for even slightly large values of n and k. For this
reason, the original formulation of the codewords was changed. Let our alphabet Q be a finite field
Fpm for some prime p generated by f(x) with primitive element α. We construct for our code a
generator polynomial g(x) whose roots are α, α2 , . . . , αt where t = n − k. In other words g(x) = Y t
i=1 (x − α i ). Again, let p(x) = Pk−1 i=0 mix i . To achieve a systematic Reed Solomon encoding (non
systematic encodings exist, but will not be discussed here), our codeword is defined as c(x) = x t p(x)
− x t p(x)modg(x) (2) Notice that the first term in c(x) yields a (n − k) + k − 1 = n − 1 degree
polynomial where the lowest n − k degree terms have coefficient 0. The

Analysis Of Homer s The Iliad
A truly talented storyteller must be able to craft his or her tale in various ways. A proficient writer can
present the same literary tool in differing forms, and thereby entertain his audience despite the fact
that he may be telling repetitive ideas. Yet, such a writer will connect these ideas in subtle ways, so as
to create a unity in his tale. Homer was a writer who performed this feat throughout the entirety of the
Iliad and showed his unique ability to weave a tale full of similes that both enhanced and unified his
story. Although Homer used a variety of subjects in his similes, and many of them had a common
thread. Homer s unique ability was to create a tale so descriptive that the listener was able to fully
immerse him or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This descriptive simile allowed the listener or reader to truly see Diomedes as a flaming star, which is
free falling to the earth, uncontrollably. Although this simile is rather vague and does not explain the
rage of Diomedes during his day of excellence, Homer let this idea grow.
Soon after, another simile more aptly showed the violent person that Diomedes was on the battlefield
that day. This was done by utilizing a more familiar relationship between the vehicle and the tenor.
Homer mentioned the lion in his description of Diomedes: Now, long ablaze as he was to fight the
Trojans, triple the fury seized him claw mad as a lion (5.150). Lions are commonly related to a certain
untamable ferociousness. Although Homer went on to elaborate on this comparison for several more
lines, the initial impression is enough to depict the ferocity of Diomedes. In Homer s tradition of over
description during his similes, the idea continued up until the line, piling corpse on corpse and in one
furious bound clears the fenced yard so raging Diomedes mauled the Trojans (5.158). His continuation
of the simile, allowed for a more graphic description of Diomedes rage. This finale to his simile
reinforced the idea of Diomedes fury. Later in book five, the idea of a warrior taking on the ferocity of
a lion was used again in reference to Diomedes. As a lion charges cattle, calves and

Lauren Banowsky The Hold Dance Analysis
In the hold by Lauren Banowsky, a contemporary dance incorporated with ballet techniques is
performed in a dark and spacious stage. The dance demonstrates the constant hold from one living its
life to the fullest potential due to dragging the past, with the urge to obtain freedom or a sense of
relief. The choreography being displayed by two female dancers consisted of a negative, intense
energy, constant moving towards the ground, and a dragging type of movement due to the stretchy
dress. Most of the dance moves are considered characteristics of modern dance due to the movements
towards the ground and dancing barefooted. Doris Humphrey s technique of fall and recovery is a
perfect example to the coming of the ground intensively being presented ... Show more content on

There was a repetition of the lyric, I been caught in fire which is meaningful to the dance because the
word fire in this dance can mean death, hell, or sadness. Based on the choreography and costumes the
lyrics helped understood the story line for the dance. The style of music chosen complimented the
choreographic intent of a melancholy type of movement upon the performance. The music affected the
dynamics of the dancer s movements because it allowed a more realistic connection within the dancer.
The music choice benefited the dance because the mini pauses throughout the song allowed the dancer
to structure the performance in a more impacting way. The music style can be related to the Martha
Graham and Doris Humphrey style of music for dancing due to the pace of the music and the type of
movements. In addition, the music would have been more touching if it was sang by a female rather
than a male to have more association with the female dancers feelings. The music is a key element
throughout the performance because it allowed the dancers to dance to the rhythm of the melody and
perform with confidence because of the guidance from the music. Given these points, the rhythm,
melody, and pauses the music brought to the performance was prosperous for the choreographer,
which brought a gloomy mood to the audience with a unique type of music and

Jesus Depicted throughout Time
Many people have asked the question what did Jesus look like, was he tall, short, shaved or bearded.
Did he look different from everyone else? No one truly knows what the savior looks like because there
is nothing in the bible that gives a description of Jesus. But throughout the centuries people have
created images of what the Son of God through the eyes of the people of their time in order to keep the
faith and to educate and reflect how things were. The Roman Christian Art also known as byzantine
Art marks the beginning of religious art and the image of Jesus. Which emerged after Christianity
become the dominate religion in Rome around the 2nd century. One the oldest images of Christ comes
from the mid 3rd century, it is young Jesus as the Good Shepherd from the Catacombs of San Callisto.
In this fresco Jesus is portrayed as a young shepherd holding a sheep on his shoulders. A shepherd
guides and direct his sheep. This has a symbolic meaning, in the bible (John 10:1 21; Luke 15:1 7 and
11 32). Jesus represented as the good Shepard and we are his sheep. It also states that as the shepherd
he will look for the lost sheep (sinners) and rejoice when it is found. The painting explains how Jesus
will help protect and guide you in the right direction. This was a way of telling passages of the bible to
the people who were illiterate. Later on as we enter the early Middle Ages (5th 10th century) the
image of Jesus begins to be depicted in portrait. Christ panacrator is one

Food Security Is A Basic Human Right, Essential For Life
Food security is considered as a basic human right, essential for life. It exists when all people, at all
times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary
needs and food preferences for a healthy and active lifestyle [Food Agricultural Organization (FAO),
1996]. Food insecurity can refer to not having sufficient food; experiencing hunger as a result of
running
out of food and being unable to afford more; eating a poor quality diet as a result of limited food
options;
anxiety about acquiring food; or having to rely on food relief (Rychetnik, Webb, Story, Kat, 2003).
Although the United States population is considered food secure as a whole, with 85.7% being food
secure (Coleman Jensen, Gregory Singh, 2014), pockets of food insecurity have been identified
among
sub populations such as single parent households (34.4%), people at social or geographical
disadvantage (26%), the homeless and the young (Rychetnik, Webb, Story, Kat, 2003; Innes Hughes,
Bowers, King, Chapman, Eden, 2010).
According to National Center for Education Statistics (2013), enrollment of students 18 24 years in

Business Competition in the Current Environment
In the design thinking customer is really important. Every innovation comes from observing the
customers, deep insight about their behaviour could be crucial. So first of all in the companies the
consumer has to be the heart of the organisation. Secondly, the interactions and communication with
the real clients are needed to get to this third point. Thirdly, understanding the customers behaviour,
they are never wrong or right, everything is really meaningful. It is because all those experiences are
allowing us to have deeper understanding of their motivations and needs. With all this useful
information it is possible to come up with all kinds of fascinating insights. Those insights can help to
produce products or services which will help to improve customers lives. To enable businesses to start
adding value and to achieve customer centred innovations and the great way to do that would be
design thinking. It will help to discover consumers indirect and underlying needs and turn them into
demand. To begin with, we can see that it makes sense to do everything from customer centred

Moral Virtue In The Wizard Of Oz
How does one define happiness? For many people, this question makes people think what exactly it
means to be happy. Many philosophers have different views on the definition of happiness, but one
that strikes several scholars is Aristotle s view on happiness. Aristotle believes that happiness is an
activity of the soul in accordance with perfect virtue. This stems to another question, what is virtue?
There are two types of virtues; intellectual and moral. Intellectual virtues engage in your mental
capacity and moral virtues are the balance or imbalance of the morality of a moral decision. To
achieve perfect virtue, moral virtue needs to have a balance, in which a feeling of emotion is rationale,
with not too much or too little of that emotion (Aristotle, 11). Aristotle s view of moral virtue is
evident in several novels and films, but more noticeable in the classic film The Wizard of Oz. In the
film, The Wizard of Oz, many characters experience feelings of emotion where they have too much,
too little, and balanced feeling of emotion. All in all, several characters in the film The Wizard of Oz
apply different feelings of an emotion, such as confidence, compassion, and courage throughout the
story, resulting in showing Aristotle s view of moral virtue as a plausible theory of a path to happiness.
Throughout the film The Wizard of Oz, Aristotle s view on moral virtue is evident in several
characters. These characters include the scarecrow, the tinman, and the lion. In the

Ethical And Scientific Considerations Regarding Animal...
Ethical and Scientific Considerations Regarding Animal Testing and Research According to The
Principles of Humane Experimental Technique, published by William Russell and Rex Burch in 1959,
there are 3 important principles when it comes to animal testing and research. These principles:
reduction, refinement, and replacement are typically known as the 3 R s. Reduction is meant to
minimize the number of animal used in experimental procedures, refinement aims to limit the animal s
exposure to pain, and replacement is designed to use non animal options whenever possible. While the
problem with animal testing is constantly brought to people s attention, the number of animals used
for research is still increasing to this day. It is questionable whether these principles sufficiently reflect
the development in our knowledge about animals and their emotional capabilities, the interest of these
animals, or the harm that corresponds. It also raises serious questions about the success rate of the
predicted outcomes of animal testing. Concerns about human and animal use in research began in the
late 1800s; throughout this time, there was a series of medical experiments performed by the Nazi
German leaders on prisoners during World War II, as well as the Tuskegee syphilis study. Reports of

Jamestown Massacre Analysis
The Jamestown massacre was a huge mass suicide in the United States. The people involved were in
the religious group, led by Jim Jones. Jims Jones was a charismatic leader. This man was very
influential and knew how to persuasive people. His following grew and that made his religious
movement grow. Jim Jones was a strong leader and a charismatic leader. A charismatic leader is a
person that is a hero to others. They have great leadership skills and have a persona that stands out
from others. A charismatic leader can be good or evil. The frightening part is that they can earn a
following quickly because of their persona.
Charisma is just a trait and means to have a vibrant persona. The difference between a charismatic
leader and a normal leader is that a charismatic leader is more charming and is usually more
persuasive than a regular leader.
Jim Jones gave the people what they wanted to hear. He would help them try and find their better self.
That is why he had such a rapid following. Many at the moment thought that the government were not
taking care of them so he made them felt like they were going to be take care of. Also he made them
feel like they had a community that they were not alone. He would manipulate people by using jesus
name. That jesus wanted them to be a certain way or do certain things. His followers are usually
vunerable people. Like for example people with addictions and the elderly. He was so persuasive that

Alcatraz Prison As A Prison
Alcatraz was one of the toughest prisons to escape from with nearly no chance of success. Alcatraz is
22 acres of solid rock and cliffs that was once a military base but after many years as a military base it
was transformed into a prison. This landmark is now managed by the National Park services as it is
now a big tourist attraction for many. The guards that kept Alcatraz in tact were primarily retired
soldiers and police officers. Alcatraz was opened for only 29 years and during the 29 years it was open
there were 36 attempted escapes. Alcatraz was the most impenetrable prison in america at the time.
Alcatraz had set ground rules for the prisoners and if they were to break them there were going to be
consequences to follow their actions. The prisoners were permitted to play softball ,
bandball, volleyball, and bridge. The prisoners were once able to play horseshoes but prisoners would
take the horseshoes and beat each other with them. Alcatraz was known to have a lot of notorious
prisoners that were imprisoned there. Al capone was the most notorious prisoner there but was set free
after countless court hearings.
There were a total of 36 escape attempts during Alcatraz s 29 years of being open as a prison. James
Lucas and Rufus Franklin were the first to have a violent escape attempt as they killed a guard with a
hammer. They both were caught and given life sentences for killing a guard in their escape attempt.

The Four Sectors Of The Police Role In Homeland Security
The four sectors or systems of the police role in homeland security are national security system, safety
system, criminal justice system, and security system. Since the events of September 11, 2001, it has
been recognized that the police are an important part of the anti terrorism effort, working in
cooperation with the military, intelligence agencies, and others in the national defense or national
security system (Cordner, 2016, p.419). In light of their own perceptions and also data gave by the
general population, police can assume the part of first preventers of terrorisms. In accordance with the
traditional view of policing, the police are the gatekeepers at the front end of the criminal justice
system (Cordner, 2016, p.419). The criminal justice system tires to prevent wrongdoings react when
wrongdoing does happen, and make criminal cases of evidence against suspected guilty parties.
Generally, whatever is left of the criminal equity framework relies upon the police, who control the
section point to the framework and largely figure out which guilty parties will be taken care of by
prosecutors, judges, and restorative authorities. The safety system key components in this framework
incorporate fire assurance faculty, crisis medical staff, general wellbeing, doctor s facilities, and crisis
directors. One more framework in which police have a critical influence is the security system. Safety

Gender Stereotypes And The Socialization Process
Gender Stereotypes and the Socialization Process
The pursuit of gender equality is a central element of a vision of sustainability in which every Member
of Society respects others and plays a role that allows you to take advantage of their potential to the
fullest. The broad goal of gender equality is a social goal that education and other social institutions
should contribute. Gender discrimination is embed in the fabric of societies. In many societies, women
bear the main burden of food production and child rearing. Also, women are often excluded from the
family or Community decisions that affect their lives and well being.
The Parents stereotyped by the gender Classified by gender expectations can occur regarding
personality traits (for example, children are aggressive), skills (for example, girls are good for
reading), activities, and roles (for example, men are scientists). While gender equality has increased in
many cultures over the past decades, there has been a parallel growth in adults regarding the adoption
of attitudes that reflect gender equality. Now there is more variation among parents; some have
traditional expectations and others expressing expectations equal to their daughters and sons.
Similarly, some parents can support egalitarian views on certain fields (e.g. occupations) but are still
more traditional concerning other areas (for example, family roles). Finally, parents (especially men)

the social value Daisy encompasses because of her abundance of lovers. Ultimately he wants to swell

Ethical Ethics And Ethical Issues
Ethical issues in organizations are inevitable and are always on the horizon. These ethical concerns
can directly impact the overall health of an organization in both positive and negative aspects. In order
to be prepared for the ethical issues that will arise and to create an organizational competitive
advantage, an intentional focus and effective communication of the code of ethics must be
incorporated as a part of strategic planning. Sherwin (1983) indicates the that the term ethics, refers to
a set of moral norms, principles or values that guide people s behavior (cited in Brunk, 2012, p. 552).
The importance of ethical awareness in organizations can be the difference in weathering an ethical
dilemma successfully or not. Creating a culture of ethicality is both necessary for organizations to
survive and to adapt to the ever changing global business market. The focus of this article will begin
with the importance of ethical awareness. Next, it will convey the significance of the code of ethics in

Mary Wollstonecraft And Virginia Woolf
Throughout all of history women have put up a brave fight to have their rights. Many women use
authorship as a way to fight against discrimination and public stigmas. Three such women are Mary
Wollstonecraft, Jane Austen, and Virginia Woolf. Each of these brave women writes about the need for
a change in society, but each authoress has a different style and sometimes even a different view of
what needs to change, for a woman to gain her independence.
Mary Wollstonecraft has a very bold style and feels that education is what separates women from men.
When she writes she is bold but not without tact. In A Vindication of the rights of Women She wisely
states that A degree of physical superiority cannot...be denied . While this statement may not be true in
all respects today, it stirs up a common ground for the opposing argument to stand on. Wollstonecraft s
belief is that an education is what women need to be on equal grounds with men. In A vindication she
makes it very clear that if women have proper education, they will be more able to contribute to

How were the people convinced so thoroughly about China becoming the world ruler ? The Ming
dynasty, reigning from 1368 to 1644, is one of the greatest empires in the history of China. It was the
time when China had reached its pinnacle of glory by developing the most advanced navigation
technologies, largest and the most powerful military system, defence mechanisms, warfare tactics,
improving trade as well as social relations with the western world by cultural and material exchanges
such as books, literature, silk and porcelain. It was China who invented the paper making methods,

advancements. The Great Wall of China is a marvellous architecture, completed in the Ming dynasty,
which protected China from its northern invaders, especially the Mongols. Other such constructions

Social Media Is Not The Only Reason For The Privacy
Privacy, it is the one thing that we seem to not have enough of. But the question must be asked, Whose
fault is that? The answer is quite simple, ours. Social media is the number one cause of lack of
privacy. It is something about social media that make us loose our sense of reason and place all sorts
of personal information on the Internet for all the world to see. But, social media is not the only reason
for the privacy breech. There are many reasons, and computer hackers are just one. Our email
information is sold, bank loans, mortgages, and the list could go on and on.
Computers are one of the world s greatest inventions, and sadly, one of the worst. Thanks to
computers, there are so many things we can do from the comfort of our own home. We can do our

They have also made us unconcerned, at least up until recently, with our privacy. We all know there

  • 2. The Importance of itrogen in the Growth and Development of... Nitrogen is the most important nutrient required for growth and development of plants. Earth s atmosphere contains about 78% nitrogen gas but majority of this remains unavailable to the plants. An important feature of our planet ecosystem is the nitrogen cycle, by which nitrogen is converted into different several other forms. The process of conversion involves both biological and non biological processes. Nitrogen cycle consists of nitrogen fixation, assimilation, mineralization, nitrification and denitrification (Postgate 1998). The process of conversion of molecular nitrogen to ammonia is known as nitrogen fixation. Biological nitrogen fixation is the mechanism of reduction of atmospheric nitrogen to a metabolically active form exclusively by microorganisms. Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) involves the enzymatic reduction of N2 to ammonia (NH3 ). Conversion of N2 to ammonia is catalyzed by a metalloenzyme called nitrogenase. Rute Tilahun Professor Selina Hammond English 101 Composition 12, November 2015 Gender and Discrimination in Sports: Soccer How many fans do you see supporting women s Soccer teams? Why are women receiving less acknowledgements for their success towards sports than men? Do you know any girl who is interested in playing soccer and is not on the team just because she is a girl? Well I do. Such an incidence happened in one of my best friend s lives. It took place at my high school back in my country, Ethiopia. My best friend is really interested in soccer. She will give up anything for it. When we were in high school, she used to play soccer with the boys in her spare time. The boys used to let her play only on their trainings because she was not part of the team. So one day, they lost a match with another high school because one of their best defense players got injured. That day, my best friend decided to ask the coach if she could be on the team. Disbelief was apparent on his face. He laughed at her really hard and then told the other team members about her question. Everybody started to make fun of her. Even though they knew she was the best defense player, they prohibited her to be on their team just because she was a girl. Due to gender and discrimination, women are experiencing harassment, lacking job opportunities lacking athletic scholarships and also lacking equality with men in the sports professions. Historically, women have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those are the most tragic by far, however everyone always ask why such a horrible crime happens, but no one has never stopped and researched why such hate crimes like those happen. Instead people resort to Channel 2 or Fox 5 for answers, not realizing that their story isn t the full truth. I am truly against school shootings; looking for answers myself. If there s one thing I ve picked up from the media is how they portray school shootings with mental illness, but according to Alfred.edu/teen violence says, They want to get back at those who hurt them or revenge. Many adults always struggled to realize why things as vigorous as shootings happens; also fail to realize they are the start of something so tragic. There are several reasons that lead to a school shooting but only five are common. Revenge as Justin Nutt states, Is pure hatred showed to relieve stress. (Nutt, J. Dec 14). Many articles tend to base their beliefs over school shootings on revenge, because of the age and choice of a crime. These crimes are not random; are particularly committed by an older age male seeking to let go of some type of stress. Stanford s graduating class of 2005 heard an inspiring and compelling speech split into three stories from Steve Jobs life. Steve Jobs used metaphors, repetition, and antithesis creating an inspiring and compelling argument to never give up on finding and doing what you love. Steve Jobs split his speech into three stories. The first one was about connecting the dots. The whole story is a metaphor having dots stand in as actions that you have done and will do. He also points to how it is impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backward 10 years later. This is elaborating on the previous metaphor. This states that the actions, dots or in Steve Jobs s case the typography class, at the time seemed to have no clear purpose. However, later on, you can see how it connects to something else that you have or will do.In Steve Jobs case, the typography class lead to the Macintosh having different fonts. In his second story he, talked about love and loss, explaining what happened when his own company, Apple, fired him, only to have it help in. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. In this metaphor, he has medicine standing in as being fired from Apple, the awful tasting being how it felt, and him needing it because it helped him. While other competitors try to delight customers by investing in meals, airport lounges and seating selections, Southwest chooses to eliminate or reduces investments in these industry s competitive factors. The South has been criticized for practicing the archaic ways of slavery deeming it: barbaric, inhumane, and out of touch with the changes of the world. The argument continues through George Fitzhugh s Southern Thought, Labor pays all taxes, but labor in a slave society is property, and men will take care of their property. In free society, labor is not property, and there is nothing to shield the laborer from the grinding weight of taxation all of which he pays, because he produces everything valuable. A land where taxes cannot take away the riches and treasures that are produced in their fruitful land. The South possessed identity, and with that identity came the sense of individualism. One of the leading causes of the Civil War was the belief that the South s sense of individualism was in danger and to be eradicated from the face of the United States. Ironically, during the Civil War the draft was enacted into Southern conscriptions making it more of mandatory duty to southerners to join the military. Han China and Imperial Rome used ideologies to shape their society. In Han China, Confucianism was used as a basis to control its bureaucrats and citizens. • 14. The Importance Of Computers In Communication Codes As motivated above, it is often necessary to be able to reliably send data over noisy or otherwise unreliable communication channels. We can use error correction codes to help mitigate the introduction of errors into our data. To do this, we can divide our data into smaller pieces called messages and map these messages to codewords through a process called encoding. This process will provide necessary redundancy to correct a certain number of introduced errors during the decoding process. An (n, k) block code C is an injective map E : Q k 7→ Q n where Q is a set of symbols called our alphabet. The size of our alphabet, |Q| is denoted as q. In many practical applications q = 2 where Q = {0, 1}. E(m) = c maps our message m of length k to our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . , k, a contradiction. Thus, h(x) = 0 and f(x) = g(x). 3 Thus, the added n − k points provide redundancy in case an error occurs during transmission of our message. We ll write our received word as c 0 = (y0, y1, . . . , yn−1). Suppose that an error does occur. Theoretically, we could decode the message by taking all subsets of size k of (y0, y1, . . . , yn−1) and interpolate each of the k numbers in each subset to determine a polynomial of degree k − 1. We could then find which polynomial occurs most often. The coefficients of that polynomial would then be taken as the original message [9]. Obviously we cannot perform this decoding procedure due to computational constraints. We would need to find n k polynomials which is infeasible for even slightly large values of n and k. For this reason, the original formulation of the codewords was changed. Let our alphabet Q be a finite field Fpm for some prime p generated by f(x) with primitive element α. We construct for our code a generator polynomial g(x) whose roots are α, α2 , . . . , αt where t = n − k. In other words g(x) = Y t i=1 (x − α i ). Again, let p(x) = Pk−1 i=0 mix i . To achieve a systematic Reed Solomon encoding (non systematic encodings exist, but will not be discussed here), our codeword is defined as c(x) = x t p(x) − x t p(x)modg(x) (2) Notice that the first term in c(x) yields a (n − k) + k − 1 = n − 1 degree polynomial where the lowest n − k degree terms have coefficient 0. Homer was a writer who performed this feat throughout the entirety of the Iliad and showed his unique ability to weave a tale full of similes that both enhanced and unified his story. Although this simile is rather vague and does not explain the rage of Diomedes during his day of excellence, Homer let this idea grow. Soon after, another simile more aptly showed the violent person that Diomedes was on the battlefield that day. This was done by utilizing a more familiar relationship between the vehicle and the tenor. Homer mentioned the lion in his description of Diomedes: Now, long ablaze as he was to fight the Trojans, triple the fury seized him claw mad as a lion (5.150). Lions are commonly related to a certain untamable ferociousness. Although Homer went on to elaborate on this comparison for several more lines, the initial impression is enough to depict the ferocity of Diomedes. In Homer s tradition of over description during his similes, the idea continued up until the line, piling corpse on corpse and in one furious bound clears the fenced yard so raging Diomedes mauled the Trojans (5.158). His continuation of the simile, allowed for a more graphic description of Diomedes rage. This finale to his simile reinforced the idea of Diomedes fury. The choreography being displayed by two female dancers consisted of a negative, intense energy, constant moving towards the ground, and a dragging type of movement due to the stretchy dress. There was a repetition of the lyric, I been caught in fire which is meaningful to the dance because the word fire in this dance can mean death, hell, or sadness. The style of music chosen complimented the choreographic intent of a melancholy type of movement upon the performance. The music affected the dynamics of the dancer s movements because it allowed a more realistic connection within the dancer. The music choice benefited the dance because the mini pauses throughout the song allowed the dancer to structure the performance in a more impacting way. The music style can be related to the Martha Graham and Doris Humphrey style of music for dancing due to the pace of the music and the type of movements. In addition, the music would have been more touching if it was sang by a female rather than a male to have more association with the female dancers feelings. The music is a key element throughout the performance because it allowed the dancers to dance to the rhythm of the melody and perform with confidence because of the guidance from the music. It exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for a healthy and active lifestyle [Food Agricultural Organization (FAO), 1996]. Food insecurity can refer to not having sufficient food; experiencing hunger as a result of running out of food and being unable to afford more; eating a poor quality diet as a result of limited food options; anxiety about acquiring food; or having to rely on food relief (Rychetnik, Webb, Story, Kat, 2003). • 21. Moral Virtue In The Wizard Of Oz How does one define happiness? For many people, this question makes people think what exactly it means to be happy. Many philosophers have different views on the definition of happiness, but one that strikes several scholars is Aristotle s view on happiness. Aristotle believes that happiness is an activity of the soul in accordance with perfect virtue. This stems to another question, what is virtue? There are two types of virtues; intellectual and moral. Intellectual virtues engage in your mental capacity and moral virtues are the balance or imbalance of the morality of a moral decision. To achieve perfect virtue, moral virtue needs to have a balance, in which a feeling of emotion is rationale, with not too much or too little of that emotion (Aristotle, 11). Aristotle s view of moral virtue is evident in several novels and films, but more noticeable in the classic film The Wizard of Oz. In the film, The Wizard of Oz, many characters experience feelings of emotion where they have too much, too little, and balanced feeling of emotion. All in all, several characters in the film The Wizard of Oz apply different feelings of an emotion, such as confidence, compassion, and courage throughout the story, resulting in showing Aristotle s view of moral virtue as a plausible theory of a path to happiness. Ethical and Scientific Considerations Regarding Animal Testing and Research According to The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique, published by William Russell and Rex Burch in 1959, there are 3 important principles when it comes to animal testing and research. These principles: reduction, refinement, and replacement are typically known as the 3 R s. Reduction is meant to minimize the number of animal used in experimental procedures, refinement aims to limit the animal s exposure to pain, and replacement is designed to use non animal options whenever possible. While the problem with animal testing is constantly brought to people s attention, the number of animals used for research is still increasing to this day. It is questionable whether these principles sufficiently reflect the development in our knowledge about animals and their emotional capabilities, the interest of these animals, or the harm that corresponds. It also raises serious questions about the success rate of the predicted outcomes of animal testing.
