A Brush with Aids
A violent epidemic rapidly spreading across the world, the AIDS virus has forced doctors and
healthcare professionals alike to take extensive measures when handling anything possibly
contaminated. Furthermore, the Halsey Health Products line of sharps disposal containers are a
necessity for hospitals across the country making up an annual market demand of 109 million
containers sold. Dealing with such a potentially dangerous threat of infection the strength and
reliability of sharps containers must surpass any federal standards and should be able to withstand
all conditions. In addition, the integrity of this product is a key factor for the Halsey Corporation
as it comprises a significant share of the targeted $900 million in sales.... Show more content on

This is the easiest choice of action for her to take for the short term, however may produce drastic
consequences as time passes and Halsey continues the distribution of faulty products. It may result
with a damaged reputation and future for the company and the termination of her employment as
the senior management learns of her decision to take no action. In addition, it may result with
further infection of HIV to healthcare workers. The option to speak with other people within
Halsey is frowned upon as her manager Phil sees no impending threat of a faulty product.
Although Phil is known to lack a strong independent opinion, he is positioned in the company
directly above our character. In the end, this senior market manager is forced to take full action or
take no action to reach a safe resolution for her, her company, and the Halsey customers across the
country.
After a full review of the situation I ve concluded the cost to create new molds along with the
values of built up inventory accounts for less than 1% of Halsey s annual sales target of $900
million. This is a minute expense to resolve a problem that could potentially produce a drastic
outcome for Halsey and threaten the integrity of the products they sell. Disregarding such an
extreme defect should be viewed as a corporate crime by contributing to the contamination of
customers when the problem has been documented through complaints. The fortune 500

My Writing Portfolio
Writing Portfolio Reflection Over the course of the last four months, I have developed
numerous writing skills each week from our classes daily Khan Academy lessons, and I have
learned new, strong verbs to incorporate into my english papers. I have also recognized who I
am as a writer and what my securities are as an author. My experience thus far in Mrs. Lahiti s
language arts course has been very successful for I have grown as an author. In this reflective essayI
will explain my strengths and weaknesses as an english writer, and give textual backup to prove
how I have grown. I would consider myself a good writer, but getting thoughts from my head to
paperhas always been a difficult and long process for me. So when given an in class essay
assignment, such as the identity of Marjane Satrapi, it s likely not my best work. In the
Persepolis essay, I misspelled a couple of easy words such as rebelled, against, and toward. I
always feel rushed when given a timed assignment and suffer the consequences of making a few
too many stupid mistakes. I have also struggled with thesis statements. For example, in the same
Persepolis essay my thesis statement was Marji was daring. The problem with this sentence is that
I didn t elaborate the three main traits of Marji s identity, I only named one. I think if I was given

difficult events of my life. I described the struggles I have faced as an injured athlete and what I
have overcame in the last couple years. I used the five senses to embellish more details of taste,

The Setting Of The Novel We Were Liars
In the novel We Were Liars , the setting takes place on an island called Beechwood Island in
Massachusetts. Beechwood is a owned by Cadence Sinclair s grandparents Harris Sinclair and
Tipper Taft who unfortunately dies early on in the novel. Harris and Tipper have lots of money
and were able to build four different buildings for each aunt to live in (along with their partners
and children) and a staff building for their workers. All the families travel out to Beechwood every
summer and the Liars, Cadence, Johnny, Gat, and Mirren, are all cousins and at the age of fifteen.
They name their summers by their ages so for instance, the novelmainly takes place in summer
seventeen with flashbacks to summer fifteen from Cadence. The setting is very important
because Beechwood is where all the kids practically grow up and where conflicts take place. You
would think that Beechwood island is a happy place where memories are made and where
everyone has fun, but the island is not. It sets an eerie and unpleasant mood for the story because of
all the secrets and rough family matters that occur during summer seventeen. Beechwood island is
the setting of the novel that gives off an eerie mood that affects the Liar s summers.
Although there are a couple of main characters in the novel, We Were Liars , the one that stands out
the would be the most important main character, Cadence Sinclair. The novel is in first person and
is narrated through Cadence s perspective. This gives readers a

The Theme Of Perspective In The Restaurant At The End Of...
The book The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams follows the theme of
perspective. All throughout the book, the main characters toy with the fact of just how large the
universe is, and that their lives are pretty obsolete. As first shown in Chapter 10, the Total
Perspective Vortex, a torture device, shows The Universe, the whole infinite Universe. The infinite
suns, the infinite distances between them and yourself an invisible dot on an invisible dot,
infinitely small . This machine shows yourself compared to the entire universe and just how tiny
we really are. Another way this theme is portrayed is by the way people react to supposed big
things . The protagonists find themselves at Milliways, the restaurant at the end

The Chechen Wars
From Western audiences, Chechnya whether as an autonomous oblast, a sovereign state, or a
war zone has never received much consideration. Just one of dozens of ethnic groups within
Russia who have declared since the end of the Soviet Union their right to self rule and self
determination, the Chechens struggle for independence was drowned out in the cacophony of
calls for independence during the 1990s. However, in a world so greatly affected by the events of
September 11, 2001 and given the role of Chechen separatist groups in bombings of Russian
apartment buildings in 1999 (which killed more than 300) and the hostage taking of a Russian
theater in 2002 (which resulted in the deaths of 130 Russians and 30 rebels), the rhetoric of... Show

Yet, the repression of the forced deportation of nearly one million Chechens in the last week of
February 1944 is considered to be the most salient to the common sense of distrust held by
Chechens of Moscow s rule (Nikolaev Malashenko, 2004; Tishkov, 2004; Jaimoukha, 2005;
Gammer, 2006). Thousands are thought to have died during the forced relocation to the Central
Asian Soviet Socialist Republics (SSRs) and the eventual repatriation to Chechnya from 1957 to
1960 resulted in even further alienation as ethnic Russians who had taken control of the homesteads
and farms of Chechen deportees resisted their return violently (Tishkov, 2004). Valery Tishkov, a
renowned Russian ethnographer, explains, The theme of deportation and its untold suffering
dominated Chechen political discourse...and later [was the topic of] youth pop songs....People
began to believe that to end any continuing discrimination against them, the Chechens had to
assume control over the republic, (2004, p. 32). The culmination of hundreds of years of common
suffering, the forced deportation and repatriation resonates today as primary source of Chechen
defiance of Russian rule. The political and economic liberalization of Gorbachev s glasnost and

Biography Of Frederick Douglas s Role Models For Business...
Success is, in many ways, a branch of perspective, and yet societal norms seem to dictate what
many view as success. Through my personal experience, and through the reading of Frederick
Douglas I believe that the idea of personal success in correlation with perspective is a subject
worthy of debate. Dissecting the difference of what many view as success and what may
actually be success is essential for growth personally, and for people collectively. For example;
currently many in our society view success as the acquisition of a copious monetary status,
usually preceded, or followed by recognition for actions, ideas, etc... whether or not one views
these actions or ideas worthy of widespread recognition(IE, success of socialites who may have
not actually contributed to their own success). Many would believe that figures such as Paris
Hilton, and Kim Kardashian, who are viewed as successful women, are successful based on who
they are, instead of what they ve done, while others believe these women are role models for
business and personal marketing in the 21st century. I myself believe that success is not based
on how any group views you, but on how you view yourself, and measure your own success;
based on where you started in life, your goals, and your level of pride in your actions. It is my
sentiment that we should discuss the topic of what success means to the individual, and not to the
collective. A discussion of this perspective, I subscribe would allow for all people to

Speech On Video Games
Since the first video games were developed in the 1950 the gaming industry haven t looked back
since. Throughout the century video games has gone through a huge development where the entire
planet spend more than 3 billion hours a week playing video games. In the speech Online
Harassment and Cyber Mobs Anita Sarkeesian, who is a female gamer, talks about the stereotypes
of gaming. The type of people who don t think women should be a part of the gamer world. A
world, which is dominated by men and where online harassment of the other genderis something we

Many gamers felt that the accusations made against them were unfair and therefore we need to
see it from two sides, Saarkeesian side and the gamer s side. From a gamers point of view many
people will argue that Sarkeesian s journalistic integrity isn t so reliable and here is why: At the
beginning of the speech Sarkeesian tells us about how she always used to play games since she
was 10 years old, but this isn t entirely true. Because Sarkeesian actually admit during an interview
with a professor called Melanie that she don t play videogames at all. But then again Sarkeesian
talks to an audience, who is already taking her side of the story, so her integrity isn t on the line
here. Its therefore important to take the context into

Biblical Allegory In The Edenian
In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for
many cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a
symbiotic way (Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music
today. Sara Bareilles is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success
with her 2007 song (I m not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest
was released in 2013, and features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that
contains heavy biblical connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of
Adam and Evein Genesis 2 and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music
continues to be influenced by the Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent
example of the way biblical allegory can be used to retell stories from the Bible through music,
however it also shows how popular culture provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as
well. In this essay, I will first explore the world in the text through an in depth analysis of the
biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how it conveys the traditional story from
Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind the text; discussing how Eden is
inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made within the song differ from the
interpretation of the traditional biblical text.

Essay about Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach
Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21st 1685. He is the son of Johann Ambrosius. For
many years, members of the Bach family had held positions such as organists, town
instrumentalists, or Cantors.
When Bach was eight years old he went to the old Latin Grammar School. He was taught reading
and writing, Latin grammar, and a great deal of scripture, both in Latin and German. The boys in
the school formed the choir of the St. Georgenkirche. This also gave Bach an opportunity to sing in
the regular services, as well as in the nearby villages. He has an uncommonly fine treble voice.
During this period Bach attended the Gymnasium of Ohrdruf, which had become one of the most

By now Bach had high ideals for the church music of Germany. He began organizing the rather
poor facilities of Muhlhausen; he started by making a large collection of the best German music
available, including some of his own. The first result of these efforts was his cantata Gott ist
mein Konig . This, incidentally, was the only one of Bach s cantatas to be published during his
lifetime. This success gave Bach the hope to put in a long and detailed report, proposing a
complete renovation and improvement of the organ. The council agreed to carry the proposals out,
and Bach was given the job as supervising the work, for not only now was he a brilliant player, but
he became an expert on constructing organs.
The court orchestra consisted of twenty two players. Bach s function was mainly a violinist,
however he also played harpsichord. Bach, on occasion, wrote some of the music that was played.
During this period he wrote strictly for the organ, and he was rapidly becoming known throughout
the country. As time went on, people were coming to see him far and wide.
During the later years of his life Bach gradually withdrew inwards, producing some of the most
profound statements of the baroque musical form. Bach s creative energy was conserved for the
highest flights of musical expression: the Mass in b

The Top Five Coffee Shops Essay
Any Top List is always subjective, in my opinion. There will probably be people in my town of

However, I think that these three independent coffee shops, which are all quite different, are
exceptionally good. Beasley s Southern Bistro Beasley s Southern Bistro, located at 2203

menu and added some unique sandwiches (including a lobster sub) and, of course, various types
of coffees. My husband and I were frequent visitors to the Beasley s on South Roan and have

Stephen Curry s Influence On Basketball

in his sport. 6 3 , 200 pound Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry, 28, has thoroughly changed
the sport of basketball over the course of his professional basketball career in three major ways.
First, his mastery of the three point shot has proven that the three pointer is on the rise as it pertains
to basketballshots. Second, his play has shown how people of average builds can be dominate in
the sport of basketball. Third, his success has proven that professional basketball is operated
differently than the days when monsters like Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird once controlled
the area underneath the basket; basketball is now played from behind a curved arc on the

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Saves Lives!
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) can be used by the untrained bystander, even if they
have never seen or used the machine before. This machine has both voice and visual instructions;
therefore, there is no reason to be intimidated. If you see a person suddenly collapse, pass out, or
find someone unconscious, having a general knowledge of how an AED machine functions, could
save their life. Before starting AED or any life saving measure, confirm that the person is unable to
respond by shouting, shaking, or pinching on top of their shoulders. If they are unresponsive
immediately call or have a bystander call 911, locate, and retrieve the AED machine. This machine
must be used within minutes of cardiac arrestonset to be effective; therefore, time is of the
essence! Try to ascertain how long the victim has been unconscious. Determine whether they are
breathing, and if they have a pulse. If the victim is breathing they will have a pulse; if they are
not breathing or pulse is absent or irregular, prepare to use the AED once it arrives at the scene.
Roll the person on their back, and begin doing 2 minutes of CPR (30 chest compressions). Once
the AED machine is at the scene, make sure the person isn t lying in or near water. If they are
they will need to be moved to a dry area. It is imperative to stay clear of any type of wetness when
delivering shocks water will conduct electricity. Turn on the AED power supply (some power up

The Ratio Of A Case
Q1. In any court case the judgement given will contain the reason that a decision has been made,
this is known as the ratio decidendi. The ratio decidendi in a case is the binding part of the
Judge s decision and is to be relied upon in future. In almost all cases the Judge will also make
further comment or explanation as to their decision, this is not always based on current law nor
will it relate to the facts of the case and is usually part of an opinion. These additional comments
that do not form part of the ratio decidendi are know as obiter dictum. The ratio decidendi is the

A Raisin In The Sun Mood Analysis
The A Raisin in the Sun scene described between Walter and Travis yields insights into Walter s
nature: Walter desires purely that which is best for his son, which in turn fulfils his primary

It is through this sequence that he instills the belief that whatever his son becomes, will be a

superior life for Travis, almost independently, with no exterior aid. When Travis relays his desire
to become a bus driver to Walter, Walter quickly responds with, ...Man, that ain t nothing to

successful. He feels vicariously whatever success or failure

The Medici Influence and the Italian Renaissance Essay
A post Middle Age Italy was afflicted by medieval wars and the bubonic plague. A change was
needed to restore the vision of what Italy could become. This change was found within one
family: the Medici s, who helped to return the glory and influence to Florence. The Medici s saw
the value in contributing to the advancement of the greatest minds of the period. This was evident
in their patronage of leading Artists such as Michelangelo and of renowned Teachers such as
Galileo. The sphere of influence the Medici s enjoyed also extended to the political arena, which
happened to be heavily influenced by the Catholic Church at the time. The Medici s were able to
capitalize on the power of the Church and through this influence and the use of... Show more

(Medici) In the Florentine republic, where economic power was almost synonymous with
political power, achieving this financial feat made way for social distinction. (The Medici) With
Giovanni s death in 1429, there were those who tried to capitalize on the opportunity to displace
the Medici family from its place in the social and political landscape of the time. One such
opportunity was taken with the help of a wealthy rival, the Albizzi family, who put in motion a
plot to have Giovanni s son, Cosimo de Medici, arrested on accusations of treason and banished
to Venice. This did not happen without consequences. With Cosimo s exile he took with him a
large source of Florentine capital, the Medici Bank. The Pope intervened and restored the
Medici s to power. Thus began Cosimo s restoration of Florentine pride and the support of great
artists that many admire today. An example of the Medici support to artists involves The Dome of
Santa Maria del Fiore. The dome of the chapel was built so large that no architect knew how to
complete the rooftop structure and was a humiliating point in Florentine history. A contest to see
who could develop a solution to complete the dome was won by a Florentine engineer named
Brunelleschi, who felt he had found the solution. With the successful completion of the chapel,
support from Cosimo de Medici and the holy consecration performed by the Pope, a great structure
was once again a source of pride to the Florentines and the

Post New Deal, the Tennessee Parksystem continued to thrive as more parks were transferred to
the State from federal agencies. Tennessee was slowly becoming a recreational destination to
those seeking water related activities. Tennessee had another park resurgence from 1971 to 1980
when it added sixteen State Parks and has continued to grow over the last two decades (TDEC
2017). The New Deal ideology of preserving Tennessee s natural landscapewhile providing public
recreation is still a main goal of the park system.
New Deal Era State Park Examples
Below are descriptions of three New Deal Era state parks that represent a variety of state parks
TVA and the CCC were involved with. While some of them were designated as a state park
during the great depression, others were deeded or leased to the state in the late 1940s and 1950s.

Political Differences Between Football And Football
Politics doesn t belong in football is what I heard my Dad say as a Jeremy Corbyn banner was
raised in the kop. I watch football to get away from Politics is a comment I saw in /r/soccer and
that got me thinking, isn t football the worst place to come to get away from politics.
I want to start with my overall point. Politics and Football are intricately intertwined. Politics often
manifests itself through Football, whilst Football has also been used for political propaganda. One
of the ways this is achieved is through local and national identities becoming associated and
represented by Football clubs. This brings us to the first example of politics being intertwined with
Football with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The club not only has become enriched with a political background, but in fact their biggest rivalry
and possibly the biggest rivalry in the world has its political roots. El Clasico is a rivalry defined by
distance, the distance between what the two clubs stand for and represent. With Madrid
representing Spanish nationalism and Barcelona representing Catalan nationalism.
During the Franco regime Catalans saw Madrid as a tool Franco would use to humiliate the city
in another domain. The example most cited in the book Barça was the 1943 Copa Del Rey.
Barça held a 3 0 lead going into the second leg, with a few controversial decisions. The home
fans who would boo the officials would be labeled in the media as enemies of the Spanish stat .

Importance Of Interlanguageization
Interlanguage Generalizations and Reasons for Their Use
Learning a new language is a complex process. It involves not only learning vocabulary, structures,
pronunciation, but also learning to use them all accurately and at the right moment. On one hand,
different researchers have demonstrated that the acquisition of the different language structures
seem to take place in a determined order. Nevertheless, some researchers have pointed this process
doesn t happen in a straightforward fashion. As stated by Long (1990:659) it follows a U shaped
course development. It means the learner may be successful at using certain structures occasionally
and fail some other times. Therefore, numerous times, the learner will face situations in which he ...

Selinker (1972: 214) states that three sets of observable data from meaningful performances are
needed to establish relevant interlanguage identification: (1) utterances in the learner s native
language (NL) produced by the learner; (2) IL utterances produced by the learner; and (3) TL
utterances produced by native speakers of that TL. (Selinker, 1972: 214) It is also critical to know
the context in which the utterance took place, plus: the learner s age, how his L1 works, his
schooling level, how much L2 availability he has, plus his psychological, personal and emotional
developmental stages. All of those aspects among many others that can affect his language learning
ann production process. Without this information, attempts to analyse isolated sentences can be
done, but the results of such attempts lack validity, since two people can produce the same
utterance but their reasons to choose it may vary.
In order to analyse the sentences part of our study, it is paramount to take into account the five
central processes Selinker accounts for the different erroneous utterances a learner produce within
his interlanguage; and which may become fossilized affecting the learner for a lifetime. Selinker
(1972) classifies those process as:
Language transfer.
Transfer of training.
Strategies of second language learning.
Strategies of second language communication.

According to Harper, the most obvious characteristic of histrionic patients is their use of denial or
dissociative mental operations, which can rewrite history to conform to a more favorable
presentation of events, discarding negative and conflictual experiences and feelings in the process
(2004). Another common symptom displayed among those with HPD is being overly concerned
with physical appearance and frequently shows self dramatizations, theatrical behavior, and
exaggerated emotions. Those diagnosed with HPD tend to shift emotions rapidly, constantly seek
reassurance, are excessively sensitive to criticism or disapproval as well as consider relationships to
be more intimate than they really are. Without being aware of it, persons with HPD often act out a
roll in their relationships with others. They may seek to control their partner through emotional
manipulation or seductiveness on one level, whereas displaying a marked dependency on them at
another level (Bornstein, 1998). A person with HPD may avoid a social encounter when he/she
knows that they might be upstaged by another individual out of fear of not being the center of

preservation that reflects their need for attention and approval (Rasmussen, 2005). In addition, they

The purpose of this study is to produce succinic acid from glycerol residue through anaerobic
fermentation process. The study of reaction parameters (pH, temperature and mass substrate) was
performed by using expert design software in glycerol recovery process. One factor at one time
(OFAT) method was performed as preliminary studies for selection of parameters range and
subsequently determine its optimum condition using response surface methodology (RSM). The
concentration of glyceroland succinic acid were determined using HPLC analysis. The FTIR
spectrometry was applied to examine the adsorption of organic element. Statistical optimization
(Respond Surface design Methodology) showed that optimal conditions were at pH, 2, temperature
35 0C and substrate 110.36 gram. At this optimum, 159.312 g/L was recovery of glycerol was
obtained. Succinic acid was produced via fermentationprocess by using Escherichia coli type k 12
under 19.67 g/L initial glycerol concentration, 200 rpm rotation speed and at temperature 37 0C.
The work resulted 0.66983 g/L succinic acid been produced. The study also investigated succinic
acid production from commercial glycerol and its resulted about 0.73337 g/L. Overall, this

The cities of Macon and Savannah were good teammates in 1840. Cotton was shipped from Macon
and made its way along the Ocmulgee River using a steamboat to then take a small trip north in the
Ocean to Savannah s large port. With Savannah being the largest city in the state, the construction
of the Central of Georgia Railway was encouraged. This railway would connect the two cities,
Macon and Savannah, and greatly help to increase the speed of the transportation of cotton and
recourses from inland to sea. This would also put Savannah more on the map when discussing
important worldwide ports. One thing was made clear in the life of politics and that was that white

How Fashion Grew Into A Very Important And Valuable Idea
Throughout the 15th, 16th, and 17th century, the concept of fashion grew into a very important
and valuable idea. Between the years of 1450 and 1648, men s upper and lower class fashion
and women s upper and lower class fashion was drastically improved by modern technology and
culture. If you were any sort of noble figure, you would have always looked completely put
together no matter where you were going. No matter what class you were in, you desired to look
your best even though there was a vast difference in what each class wore. Lower classmen opted
for clothingthat was easy to move and work in, while upper classmen opted for big, costume like
clothing. This was a result of new, modern technology.
Upper class fashion was definitely the most voluminous, and heavy style of the three classes. For
men s, women s, and children s outfits there were multiple layers, with many different colors, and a
large amount of accessories. Contrasting fabrics, slashes, embroidery, applied trims, and other
forms of surface ornamentation became prominent. (Romanova) For men, the outfits always started
with a simple dress shirt similar to dress shirts men wear today, but without the collar. Instead of
a fold over collar, there was a drawstring that was tied to form a large ruffle around the neck. Over
this dress shirt you would find a doublet. A doublet is a tight jacket like vest that was meant to
make the man look slimmer. It was hip or waist length. Next was the jerkin. A jerkin was a

To A Mouse, By John Steinbeck
One of the generalities most often noted about Americans is that we are a restless, a dissatisfied, a
searching people, (Steinbeck America Americans) John Steinbeck stated this when discussing the
topic of the American dream. He believes that numerous Americans are chasing after a dream that is
nearly impossible to reach. John Steinbeckexpresses his belief on the American dream through a
general negative attitude toward the American dream and the failed dreams of his characters.
The book shares the same negative views about dreams with the poem To a Mouse, by Robert Burns
. The poem tells the story of a mouse who has planned for survival through the winter, but his
plans were ruined by a farmer who was plowing his field leaving the mouse frightened and fearing
for the future. The seventh stanza includes these lines The best laid schemes of mice and men, go
oft astray, and leave us nought but grief and pain to rend our day (Burns To a Mouse ). This quote
illustrates the fact that both the plans of mice and men will fail leaving them unhappy. The author
Robert burns shows in To a Mouse his negative opinion directed towards achieving dreams.
Steinbeck shares the same negative opinions about the dream in his essay, America Americans: Is
the American dream even possible? , he shows a general negative attitude towards the topic of the

The Rocking Horse Research Paper
My favorite toy when I was littler than I am now was a brown and white rocking horse. I wasn t
born to see it be given as a gift but for my baby shower my great grandparents had giving my
parents a rocking horse for me. I would be on the horse constantly I couldn t run around because it
was just a rocking horseso I would sit on it next to the tv and watch my shows. This love for
horses connected with cowboys so I began to wear cowboy boots everyday I d wear them to
school, when we would go shopping and even just around the house I would wear them.
My siblings and I would go over to my great grandparents house on weekdays, I would always bring
the rocking horse there. My grandpa was a oakie so we would always watch his black and white
cowboy shows, while watching these shows I would be on the horse rocking back and forward.
During these cowboy shenanigans our favorite snack to eat was my great grandma s homemade
cornbread with a glass of milk, the cornbread would smell sweet and feel warm. In the backyard of
the house was my great grandpa s shed, when he would weld or do who knows what, I d be right by
him on my rocking horse. As all these days passed the fun on my rocking horse was beginning to
come to an end and I was getting bigger, being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

my great grandparents house and gave my grandpa the biggest hug ever and told him thankyou a

Modernization Of The Hawaiian Islands
The state of Hawaii, also known collectively as the Hawaiian Islands, has a long history regarding
its development. From migration, to the development of producing goods as a way of bartering, to
an eventual governed society, the modernization of Hawaii has an illustrious history. The people
who impacted this and were part of creating a globalized look at Hawaiiplayed a part into
modernization the state. This paper will illustrate the modernization of this land and its
westernization throughout the years.
The modern origins of these islands start not from the migration of the Asian people from other
various islands, but with the discovery by an Englishmen named Captain Cook. With his ship,
The Resolution, as well as The Discovery; Cook stumbles upon the islands of Kauai and Oahu on
January 18, 1778. The exchange of goods amongst the native Hawaiians showed promise, but this
barter and friendly spirit did not last; as on his second visit to the islands in 1779 was unfortunate
timing which led to his death . Following Cook s death there was a period of migration to the
Hawaiian Islands which started when some of the crew from Cook s ships decided to stay behind.
The movement of trade to the Hawaiian Islands created a rift between the native people, and the
foreigners. As fur trade in China became such a big industry, Hawaii became stopping ground or
port for these trade ships. This eventually led to an increase in the amount of foreigners, making up
majority of the

My Career As An Information Technology Professional
My career as an Information Technology professional has spanned 25 years at two companies
(three years at the first, and the rest with my current employer). In those 25 years, I have
reported to many people. They have all formally held the title of Manager, but very few of them
have been worthy of being called a Leader. By definition, a leader provides leadership. But then
leadership itself, I suppose, is open for interpretation. Some would say a leader is one who
simply gives orders and then verifies those orders have been completed. Others would say a leader
is akin to the Oracle, sitting on their mountain, waiting for their followers to come and ask for
pearls of wisdom, which are then handed out only to the worthy. I have... Show more content on

The Colonel demands new socks and shoes for his men and threatens to contact the War
Department to report the lack of support from the Quartermaster. He emerges victorious, and his
men are provided for. His decisive action makes his men more effective soldiers, raises their
morale, and demonstrates that their leader is there for them. Lastly, Colonel Shaw makes sure
his men have the proper training needed to do their jobs. During rifle practice, Shaw observed
one of his soldiers hitting every target dead on, but at a relaxed pace. He commands the soldier
to reload and shoot faster, even putting the soldier under stress by firing a pistol close to his
head while he s reloading. When questioned as to why he was being so hard on the soldier, Shaw
stated that he was preparing him for battle: It s my job to get these men ready, and I will. And he
does. Time after time, Colonel Shaw fights on behalf of his men. He observes, seeks counsel, is
decisive, and takes bold risks in doing what is right and rejecting what is expedient. These are
qualities which speak to his strength of character and elevate him beyond his rank or
responsibility in the eyes of those he commands. He does not manage or direct ... he leads. And it

Meenakandasamy s Poem
Touch is the mostelementary of all sensations which a human being has bestowed with; even
when in a meditationa religious man closes his eyes, ears and nose, it is the sense of touch which
keeps him connectedwith this world. This feeling of touch is perhaps he first of senses and no one
can get rid of it.The same feeling of touch is thought to be a taboo when it tries to transgress
thecompartmentalization of caste. Kandasamy describes it beautifully in her poem Touch. Kamala

Once again after long years of search I came into contact with the power of honest poetry when I

Meena s poetic mode ranges from the meditative to sensuous where the metaphysical subtlety of

The Pharmaceutical Industry And Society
Abstract
The dependency of profits to promote sales to please shareholders and research and development of
new products seem to be the mindset of the pharmaceutical industry. It is without question that the
pharmaceutical companies only care about making a profit more than they do to help the people of
the United States. Pharmaceutical companies and doctors that represent them are only acting in
their own best interest; patients are the ones who are suffering the most. With that, new information
being produced it is not always being fully disclosed in the fine print, or the other option to the
drugs they take, this just only helps fuel business s.

Main concern of Pharmaceutical Industry Marketing and priorities of the pharmaceutical industry
have been a dilemma for years. Scare mongering has been increased on the importance of drugs
(Shah, 2010). For example, executives at Mylan, a pharmaceutical company that owns Epipen,
reportedly reaped in nearly three hundred million in compensation from 2011 to 2015 (Tuttle,
2016). Heather Bresch, the CEO of Mylan, was accused of jacking up the price by 600%; her
response was to blame the broken health system , Obamacare, and the rise of high deductible
health insurance plan. But should this be the case to do these to millions of families who can
barely afford something that take thirty dollars to make and jack the price up to seven hundred
dollars? We live in a greedy nation that is only there to take from one another. When people see this
you can only think of how the pharmaceuticals being an industry it basically prioritizes that revenue
comes before the needs and cures to the human society.

encouraged that the states to be required to purchase these Epipen s to fight life threatening
allergic reactions. It so happens to be that the CEO of Mylan, mother was on the National School

Why Teens Join Gangs
Many people wonder why teens would think of joining a gang. There are many different of teens
who join and they join for many different reasons; some of them include wanting power or having
status, looking for friendship or a family, peer pressure and wanting money and other materialistic
items.
Some teenagers join gangs because of family involvement. In many situations family members
already in gangs often recruit other family members. If a teenagers family is not in a gang and they
still join they might be seeking a family. Young teens who grow up without family support would
see the gang more like their second family because of all the support and attention they are
receiving that they never had before. Some even get involved with gangs because they are not
getting any attention from parents. Joining a gang provides negative attention; even though it is the
wrong kind of attention, the teens still see it as attention and to some teens any kind of attention is
better than none.
Teenagers would also join for respect. If a kid has low self esteem and don t feel good ... Show more

Many think they are going to become gang famous. Lots of youths join gangs to make fast
money. Young people who are not financially stable yet because of reasons such as struggling to
find a job or trying to help their parents would consider getting into a gang because it is fast and
easy money that can help support themselves and their family. Financially disadvantaged young
people would also rather look for a fast way to earn money. In the gang life they can participate in
things like one drug deal and make enough money to get materialistic items such as clothes and
sneakers than actually having a real job that would take a full months earnings. The appeal of
obtaining money fast can be overwhelming for children and gangs are involved in drugs and other
criminal activities that give children opportunities to get money

The Destruction Of American Society In The 19th Century
Society is a structure that besieges every individual. Its daunting presence is inescapable.
Throughout the 19th century, the American people were trapped in a rapidly industrializing nation
flooded with corruption and greed. A few crucial advancements did result from this tumult, such as
the invention of the lightbulb and the integration of women into the working class. However, these
advancements, while substantial, did little to make up for the distressing state American society
was in. Pollution prowled the streets, and crime levels were colossal. Big businesses would stop at
nothing to gain power and profits. Shortly following the close of the 19th centurywas the Great
Depression; a time of immeasurable poverty and suffering. In Eric... Show more content on

Many immigrants and rural inhabitants fled to urban areas in search of any job that would
provide them with a salary. Finding a job was onerous, as there were too few jobs available to
fulfil the demands of the growing population. Cities became flooded with the unemployed.
Likewise, as more and more companies failed, thousands of families lost their only source of
income. Due to economic constraints, layoffs and wage cuts became routine. It seemed as if
employment was always temporary; it provided a brief glimpse of relief before it was snatched
away by the claws of society. Eventually, even Burnham, a man with a reputation for being an
honorable employer, had to join the trend and let many of his employees go. When the Chicago
World s Fair officially closed, over ten thousand jobs disappeared. Burnham knew that, The
dismissed men... faced homelessness and poverty; their families confronted the real prospect of
starvation (Larson 155). Within the last several centuries, American society had evolved in such
a way that a job was necessary for survival. Money provided all the basic needs. Because farming
was difficult in crowded and polluted cities, nearly all people relied on their wages to provide
food for their families. In addition to food, money provided housing, clothing, and education.
Without salary, families were faced with a survival burden. They struggled to pay the bills they
owed, and place food upon the table. The prospect of starvation was extremely present, yet there
was little meaningful effort to improve these conditions. Workers continued to be paid minimal
wages, and get laid off. The employers knew what lay ahead for their newly unemployed workers,
but they made little effort to change their fates. The government did not provide much support to its
poverty struck citizens. Consequently, all of society suffered. In the midst of

during unforgiving weathers, however, they survived. Being capable to endure such conditions
would get hold of true intelligence. Maroo and her people were intelligent because they could
hunt, they had a culture, and most of all the capability of crafting. Overall, a Maroo and her
people weren t some cave people who ran around banging on their chest, they showed signs of

important reason Maroo and her people were intelligent is that they could build. For example,
Maroo and her people lived such a hard time, and they had certain ways of having fun like
playing the drum. Maroo and her people didn t buy their drums from the stores, they build them.

Hormonal Differences Between Antidepressants And Pregnancy
Antidepressants and Pregnancy
Almost all women experience some type of depression during pregnancy. Depression is more
than just feeling blue or down in the dumps for a few days. It s a serious illness that involves the
brain. Depression makes you feel sad and lonely for a number of days, and could become a serious
problem. These feelings can be mild to severe. Depression is the most common problem during
pregnancy. Due to the potential birth defects, developmental issues, and negative effects on the
health of both mother and child. Hormonal changes cause the depression women experience during
pregnancy. The use of antidepressants by pregnant women should be highly restricted in the United
States. It can really hurt the child more than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The antidepressants actually affect the mother as well as the child. Given that the benefits of
antidepressants overall, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors including paroxetine specifically,
during pregnancy is questionable at best, any increase in risk small or large is too high, said Dr.
BГ©rard. (Daigle par. 3) Researches have actually found that everything the mother takes passes
through the placenta, giving more risks to the medicine affecting the child in the womb. The
placenta is a flattened circular organ in the uterus of pregnant women that nourishes and
maintaining the fetus through the umbilical cord. That s why a mother will need to watch their
own diet and what they take, it could really affect their child s future, and their own. All of the
medications you take during pregnancy can affect you and your child. You have to be careful of
what you put in your mouth while you re carrying a child. Some research associates use of
citalopram, fluoxetine and sertraline with a rare but serious newborn lung problem (persistent
pulmonary hypertension of the newborn) when taken during the last half of pregnancy. (Mayo
Staff Clinic par. 1) Other possible risks of more rare birth defects are being studied further. A
decision to use antidepressants during pregnancy is based on the balance between risks and
benefits. Overall, the risk of birth

Comparing The Afterlife In Greek Mythology And Christianity
Introduction to the Greek mythology in the 21st century, not many religions believe in the afterlife.
The religions that believed in the existence of the afterlife were Christians, Islamic, and a few
pagan systems. Greek mythology and Christianity both believe in the same afterlife but have
different names for it. This Greek mythologyparallels the afterlife of Christianity because they
believe in God and believe that when they die they will go to heaven or hell.
The certainty that an indispensable part of one s self endures after the decease of the physical body
is called the afterlife. The belief in extinction after death is in contrast with the conviction in the
afterlife, which many perceive as supernatural. In Christian religion they believe that human can be
reborn into the same world with different identify they will begin an new cycle all over again for
them (Gray 14). They believe that this rebirth and death continues until the individual gains access
to the spiritual dominion. According to the biblical aspect of life after death, the demise of an

while Christians believe that punishment in hell would be where people burn for all

John Wilson Quotes
Many readers infer that John Wilson is a homeless man in the short story, Zebra, by Chaim
Potok, but this claim has been proven otherwise throughout the story. This quote proves that
John Wilson is, in fact, not homeless: The sender was John Wilson, with a return address in
Virginia (Potok 60). The reader can assume from this quote that John Wilson does occupy a
home due to the fact that there was a return address labeled on the envelope. In the story, Zebra
also realizes that John Wilson is not a hobo because he notices the return address in Virginia on
the large brown envelope. This quote is another piece of evidence that displays that John Wilson
does have a home: I leave it near his name for a few hours, and then I take it to my studio

Reducing Student Athletes Proposal To Cut Men s Team
I, Nathan Addison, a student athlete at Upper New England University stand in opposition to the
president s proposal to cut men teams. It s essential for myself and others student athletes to be
academically proficient in the classrooms, before competing outside in our sport. I understand that
Title IX protects against discrimination, but cutting the men s team isn t a great solution to create
equal opportunity for men and women sports. By cutting men s teams, the budget will be
increased. Nothing states in Title IX or even in the policies that UNEU should reduce or cut men s

That might be difficult to achieve on certain occasions, but it should be taken into consideration
by the athletic department. Athletes will still be able to partake in their sport but have a focus on
maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If the president cut these teams, then that means enrollment will
decrease. An award should not be taken away from those who worked hard as opposed to those
who put forth less effort. It is important that women at UNEU have their portion to be recognized
for athletics. If the president wants to cut five teams, I would look at this as discrimination against
males. Males who will have their dream tarnished at the college level might protest to avoid this
proposal from happening. Our UNEU fans who have a passion for their favorite sports might not
fill the seating capacity and lose interest by not showing up to games. The solution should not be to
cut teams because equal opportunity already

September 11, 2001 sparked many different feelings into the hearts of Americans. People sprang

  • 2. A Brush with Aids A violent epidemic rapidly spreading across the world, the AIDS virus has forced doctors and healthcare professionals alike to take extensive measures when handling anything possibly contaminated. Furthermore, the Halsey Health Products line of sharps disposal containers are a necessity for hospitals across the country making up an annual market demand of 109 million containers sold. Dealing with such a potentially dangerous threat of infection the strength and reliability of sharps containers must surpass any federal standards and should be able to withstand all conditions. In addition, the integrity of this product is a key factor for the Halsey Corporation as it comprises a significant share of the targeted $900 million in sales.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the easiest choice of action for her to take for the short term, however may produce drastic consequences as time passes and Halsey continues the distribution of faulty products. It may result with a damaged reputation and future for the company and the termination of her employment as the senior management learns of her decision to take no action. In addition, it may result with further infection of HIV to healthcare workers. The option to speak with other people within Halsey is frowned upon as her manager Phil sees no impending threat of a faulty product. Although Phil is known to lack a strong independent opinion, he is positioned in the company directly above our character. In the end, this senior market manager is forced to take full action or take no action to reach a safe resolution for her, her company, and the Halsey customers across the country. After a full review of the situation I ve concluded the cost to create new molds along with the values of built up inventory accounts for less than 1% of Halsey s annual sales target of $900 million. This is a minute expense to resolve a problem that could potentially produce a drastic outcome for Halsey and threaten the integrity of the products they sell. Disregarding such an extreme defect should be viewed as a corporate crime by contributing to the contamination of customers when the problem has been documented through complaints. • 3. My Writing Portfolio Writing Portfolio Reflection Over the course of the last four months, I have developed numerous writing skills each week from our classes daily Khan Academy lessons, and I have learned new, strong verbs to incorporate into my english papers. I have also recognized who I am as a writer and what my securities are as an author. My experience thus far in Mrs. Lahiti s language arts course has been very successful for I have grown as an author. In this reflective essayI will explain my strengths and weaknesses as an english writer, and give textual backup to prove how I have grown. I would consider myself a good writer, but getting thoughts from my head to paperhas always been a difficult and long process for me. So when given an in class essay assignment, such as the identity of Marjane Satrapi, it s likely not my best work. In the Persepolis essay, I misspelled a couple of easy words such as rebelled, against, and toward. I always feel rushed when given a timed assignment and suffer the consequences of making a few too many stupid mistakes. I have also struggled with thesis statements. For example, in the same Persepolis essay my thesis statement was Marji was daring. The problem with this sentence is that I didn t elaborate the three main traits of Marji s identity, I only named one. I think if I was given more than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used the five senses to embellish more details of taste, smell, touch, hear, and see and used an interesting title named Two Flights of Stairs to grab the reader s attention. • 4. The Setting Of The Novel We Were Liars In the novel We Were Liars , the setting takes place on an island called Beechwood Island in Massachusetts. Beechwood is a owned by Cadence Sinclair s grandparents Harris Sinclair and Tipper Taft who unfortunately dies early on in the novel. Harris and Tipper have lots of money and were able to build four different buildings for each aunt to live in (along with their partners and children) and a staff building for their workers. All the families travel out to Beechwood every summer and the Liars, Cadence, Johnny, Gat, and Mirren, are all cousins and at the age of fifteen. They name their summers by their ages so for instance, the novelmainly takes place in summer seventeen with flashbacks to summer fifteen from Cadence. The setting is very important because Beechwood is where all the kids practically grow up and where conflicts take place. You would think that Beechwood island is a happy place where memories are made and where everyone has fun, but the island is not. It sets an eerie and unpleasant mood for the story because of all the secrets and rough family matters that occur during summer seventeen. Beechwood island is the setting of the novel that gives off an eerie mood that affects the Liar s summers. Although there are a couple of main characters in the novel, We Were Liars , the one that stands out the would be the most important main character, Cadence Sinclair. The novel is in first person and is narrated through Cadence s perspective. This gives readers a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Theme Of Perspective In The Restaurant At The End Of... The book The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams follows the theme of perspective. All throughout the book, the main characters toy with the fact of just how large the universe is, and that their lives are pretty obsolete. As first shown in Chapter 10, the Total Perspective Vortex, a torture device, shows The Universe, the whole infinite Universe. The infinite suns, the infinite distances between them and yourself an invisible dot on an invisible dot, infinitely small . This machine shows yourself compared to the entire universe and just how tiny we really are. Another way this theme is portrayed is by the way people react to supposed big things . • 6. The Chechen Wars From Western audiences, Chechnya whether as an autonomous oblast, a sovereign state, or a war zone has never received much consideration. Just one of dozens of ethnic groups within Russia who have declared since the end of the Soviet Union their right to self rule and self determination, the Chechens struggle for independence was drowned out in the cacophony of calls for independence during the 1990s. However, in a world so greatly affected by the events of September 11, 2001 and given the role of Chechen separatist groups in bombings of Russian apartment buildings in 1999 (which killed more than 300) and the hostage taking of a Russian theater in 2002 (which resulted in the deaths of 130 Russians and 30 rebels), the rhetoric of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, the repression of the forced deportation of nearly one million Chechens in the last week of February 1944 is considered to be the most salient to the common sense of distrust held by Chechens of Moscow s rule (Nikolaev Malashenko, 2004; Tishkov, 2004; Jaimoukha, 2005; Gammer, 2006). Thousands are thought to have died during the forced relocation to the Central Asian Soviet Socialist Republics (SSRs) and the eventual repatriation to Chechnya from 1957 to 1960 resulted in even further alienation as ethnic Russians who had taken control of the homesteads and farms of Chechen deportees resisted their return violently (Tishkov, 2004). Valery Tishkov, a renowned Russian ethnographer, explains, The theme of deportation and its untold suffering dominated Chechen political discourse...and later [was the topic of] youth pop songs....People began to believe that to end any continuing discrimination against them, the Chechens had to assume control over the republic, (2004, p. 32). The culmination of hundreds of years of common suffering, the forced deportation and repatriation resonates today as primary source of Chechen defiance of Russian rule. The political and economic liberalization of Gorbachev s glasnost and perestroika allowed ethnic nationalism to emerge as a great mobilizing power...[while] the granting every Soviet ethno nation its own state was viewed as natural, desirable, and democratic in the eyes radical democrats in Moscow at the ... • 7. Biography Of Frederick Douglas s Role Models For Business... Success is, in many ways, a branch of perspective, and yet societal norms seem to dictate what many view as success. Through my personal experience, and through the reading of Frederick Douglas I believe that the idea of personal success in correlation with perspective is a subject worthy of debate. Dissecting the difference of what many view as success and what may actually be success is essential for growth personally, and for people collectively. For example; currently many in our society view success as the acquisition of a copious monetary status, usually preceded, or followed by recognition for actions, ideas, etc... whether or not one views these actions or ideas worthy of widespread recognition(IE, success of socialites who may have not actually contributed to their own success). Many would believe that figures such as Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian, who are viewed as successful women, are successful based on who they are, instead of what they ve done, while others believe these women are role models for business and personal marketing in the 21st century. I myself believe that success is not based on how any group views you, but on how you view yourself, and measure your own success; based on where you started in life, your goals, and your level of pride in your actions. It is my sentiment that we should discuss the topic of what success means to the individual, and not to the collective. A discussion of this perspective, I subscribe would allow for all people to ... Throughout the century video games has gone through a huge development where the entire planet spend more than 3 billion hours a week playing video games. In the speech Online Harassment and Cyber Mobs Anita Sarkeesian, who is a female gamer, talks about the stereotypes of gaming. The type of people who don t think women should be a part of the gamer world. A world, which is dominated by men and where online harassment of the other genderis something we see everyday. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many gamers felt that the accusations made against them were unfair and therefore we need to see it from two sides, Saarkeesian side and the gamer s side. From a gamers point of view many people will argue that Sarkeesian s journalistic integrity isn t so reliable and here is why: At the beginning of the speech Sarkeesian tells us about how she always used to play games since she was 10 years old, but this isn t entirely true. Because Sarkeesian actually admit during an interview with a professor called Melanie that she don t play videogames at all. But then again Sarkeesian talks to an audience, who is already taking her side of the story, so her integrity isn t on the line here. Its therefore important to take the context into ... • 11. Biblical Allegory In The Edenian In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for many cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a symbiotic way (Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music today. Sara Bareilles is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success with her 2007 song (I m not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest was released in 2013, and features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that contains heavy biblical connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of Adam and Evein Genesis 2 and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music continues to be influenced by the Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent example of the way biblical allegory can be used to retell stories from the Bible through music, however it also shows how popular culture provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as well. In this essay, I will first explore the world in the text through an in depth analysis of the biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how it conveys the traditional story from Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind the text; discussing how Eden is inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made within the song differ from the interpretation of the traditional biblical text. ... When the passage opens, it tells that Aronnax is debating with the other crew members, and he believes there is more to the pole than just ice. This illustrates that Professor Aronnax is a very curious ,yet simplistic person. In the first place, Professor Aronnax is a very optimistic person throughout the story. • 15. Essay about Johann Sebastian Bach Johann Sebastian Bach Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21st 1685. He is the son of Johann Ambrosius. For many years, members of the Bach family had held positions such as organists, town instrumentalists, or Cantors. When Bach was eight years old he went to the old Latin Grammar School. He was taught reading and writing, Latin grammar, and a great deal of scripture, both in Latin and German. The boys in the school formed the choir of the St. Georgenkirche. This also gave Bach an opportunity to sing in the regular services, as well as in the nearby villages. He has an uncommonly fine treble voice. By now Bach had high ideals for the church music of Germany. He began organizing the rather poor facilities of Muhlhausen; he started by making a large collection of the best German music available, including some of his own. The first result of these efforts was his cantata Gott ist mein Konig . This, incidentally, was the only one of Bach s cantatas to be published during his lifetime. This success gave Bach the hope to put in a long and detailed report, proposing a complete renovation and improvement of the organ. The council agreed to carry the proposals out, and Bach was given the job as supervising the work, for not only now was he a brilliant player, but he became an expert on constructing organs. The court orchestra consisted of twenty two players. Bach s function was mainly a violinist, however he also played harpsichord. Bach, on occasion, wrote some of the music that was played. During this period he wrote strictly for the organ, and he was rapidly becoming known throughout the country. As time went on, people were coming to see him far and wide. During the later years of his life Bach gradually withdrew inwards, producing some of the most profound statements of the baroque musical form. Beasley s Southern Bistro Beasley s Southern Bistro, located at 2203 McKinley Road in Johnson City (locals will remember the building as the old Klopman Mills), moved from its location on South Roan Street. The old Beasley s was known for its home cooking, which it still offers; however, they have also expanded the menu and added some unique sandwiches (including a lobster sub) and, of course, various types of coffees. My husband and I were frequent visitors to the Beasley s on South Roan and have followed them to their new place. I loved their regular coffeeat the old location. I adore their vanilla cappuccino at the new location. There is nothing better than Eggs Benedict for breakfast and a large cup of cappuccino. You can order other flavors and lattes, as well. In addition, when you first walk into the old Klopman Mills, you will notice that it is being turned into a large building full of dozens of spaces for offices or small retail establishments. (Medici) In the Florentine republic, where economic power was almost synonymous with political power, achieving this financial feat made way for social distinction. (The Medici) With Giovanni s death in 1429, there were those who tried to capitalize on the opportunity to displace the Medici family from its place in the social and political landscape of the time. One such opportunity was taken with the help of a wealthy rival, the Albizzi family, who put in motion a plot to have Giovanni s son, Cosimo de Medici, arrested on accusations of treason and banished to Venice. This did not happen without consequences. With Cosimo s exile he took with him a large source of Florentine capital, the Medici Bank. The Pope intervened and restored the Medici s to power. Thus began Cosimo s restoration of Florentine pride and the support of great artists that many admire today. An example of the Medici support to artists involves The Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore. The dome of the chapel was built so large that no architect knew how to complete the rooftop structure and was a humiliating point in Florentine history. A contest to see who could develop a solution to complete the dome was won by a Florentine engineer named Brunelleschi, who felt he had found the solution. With the successful completion of the chapel, support from Cosimo de Medici and the holy consecration performed by the Pope, a great structure was once again a source of pride to the Florentines and the ... Between the years of 1450 and 1648, men s upper and lower class fashion and women s upper and lower class fashion was drastically improved by modern technology and culture. If you were any sort of noble figure, you would have always looked completely put together no matter where you were going. No matter what class you were in, you desired to look your best even though there was a vast difference in what each class wore. Lower classmen opted for clothingthat was easy to move and work in, while upper classmen opted for big, costume like clothing. This was a result of new, modern technology.
