Water Should Be Clean And Safe For Consumption
Introduction
Water is a crucial part of life; the human body is made up of 75 percent water, (Pandey, 2005). It
is one of the most pivotal nutrients in the human body due to its functions like carrying nutrients in
and out of cells in living creatures. Water is also essential in the removal of waste products from
the body and also in the regulation of body temperature in warm blooded organisms, (Pandey,
2005). Research has revealed that human beings can live without food for a month, but they cannot
last more than seven days without water; if the body loses more than ten to fifteen percent of
water, it can be fatal and lead to death, (Pandey, 2005). Due to the vital nature of this resource,
water should be clean and safe for consumption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As such sanitation and hygiene contribute immensely to the burden of health such countries.
Countries with such vulnerabilities with respect to lack of clean and safe water are predisposed to
water related diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and diarrhea, this is from a United Nations report
which also stated that these diseases have a potential to stifle growth, (Pandey, 2005). Research
reports on the impact of water related illnesses reveal that thousands of outbreaks occurs and are
mostly due to bacterial parasitic and virus microorganism; these outbreaks occur mainly due to the
consumption of untreated water.
The world health organization in the year 1996 estimated that every eight seconds, a person would
die due to illness that emanates from drinking unsafe water; this means that over five million
people die of such illnesses annually which is a very high number considering the advances made
with respect to water pollution control. An important portion of the health burden caused by water
related diseases can be attributed to the way water resources are managed and developed; some of
the resources being cited include dams and irrigation schemes. These resources increase incidences
of Malaria, schistosomiasis, Japanese encephalitis in areas they have been established, (Pandey,
2005). Drinking and bathing in dirty water are by far the most common means through

Stereotypes Of African American Music In The 20th Century
Up until the 20th century music in North America showed a clear distinction between race and
social class. The music from then has since evolved into many diverse forms and backgrounds of
origin. The most significant impact on music concerning race in the 20th century was African
Americans and the musical traditions, they brought to the music world adapted through the life of
slavery. Before the time era of the 20th century began, bluesmusic was spreading very rapidly
throughout. Blues is a vocal and instrumental musical form which evolved from African American
spirituals, shouts, work songs and chants. (Twentieth century music, n.d.) Blues was a way for
people to sing about their hardships as a way of venting. The origins of Jazzduring... Show more

Symbolism In Lot Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Lot of the Lottery
Brittney Hale
ENGL 1302
Ms. Mary Elle Young
10 03 17
Shirley Jackson s The Lottery , is a story that is filled with symbolism. The author uses symbolism
to help her represent the human race as cruel no matter how righteous he or she may see
themselves, or how perfect their way of life may seem to be. The story is very effective in making
the reader question the unnecessary nature humans express, especially when it comes to tradition or
violent behavior. Jackson effectively expresses her beliefs concerning mankind s true nature that is
commonly masked behind tradition. The author portrays how inhumane and cruel people can be
when it comes to their values and everyday life. Jackson presents the theme of this short story with a
major use of symbolism. Symbolism is shown throughout the setting of The Lottery, objects,
contestant s names and numbers.
The author makes it well known to the reader that the black box is the central theme of the
passage. The box symbolizes, at first, that something more ominous is to come. Jackson s choice
of the color black is a perfect example for the story, it symbolizes death and complete darkness. A
town person s fate lies in the hands of this inanimate object. The black box is an excellent
representation of the sacrifice the citizens are willing to give to keep up with traditions. The
author not only used the color of the box to symbolize what was happening in the town, but also
the condition of the box. The no longer completely black but splintered box portrays the decaying
of the original religious ideals the lottery (Jackson 230) was founded upon. Even though the
citizens felt uneasy about the box, and would even keep their distance from the stool with the
black box on it (thoughtco). They do not question the origin of the black box, but they accept it as
a way of life.
The names of the character play a significant role in developing the story. Quite a few of the
names are more obvious than others, such as Delacroix, which translates as of the cross . Others,
such as Adams, make the reader think more in depth about them. One of the main characters, Mrs.
Delacroix, appears often in the story. She is a companion of Tessie, the

Lessons learned and breaches in data protection act.
In this section I will give a list of the lessons I learned from the book the Cuckoo s Egg by
Clifford Stoll in relation to the subjects that I am currently. Also I will identify any breaches to the
Irish data protection act that could be pointed out from the book.
No network is secure
In our networking classes this is a lesson that has been reminded to us over and over again by our
trendy and very intelligent lecturer. As shown throughout the book the hackers are able to access
various systems, like telephone systems and satellites to access the network across the world. Then
they illegal gain access by using default user names and passwords.
The illustration [1] below shows how the hackers got access through different networks that were
connected.
The data protection act states that access to wireless networks should be controlled by the data
controllers and that they should have encryption and the appropriate securities in place

Petroleum as Vital to Human Existence as Water From the development of the Industrial Revolution
to the Information Age we live in today our civilization has been able to progress with the help of
the Industrial Revolution s basic necessity known as petroleum. This resource is so valuable that it
has been the reason of 6 global conflicts and the creation of a trillion dollar industry. James Buchan
a Financial Times correspondent stated, A century ago, petroleum what we call oil was just an
obscure commodity; today it is almost as vital to human existence as water. The uses petroleum

In order to keep up with demand, the United States has been forced to rely on importing 80% of
its crude oil. This niche was filled from the creation of OPEC who uses price gouges to create an
economic boom in their country, through unifying and controlling the industry. This economic
boom produced by OPEC amounts to an annual 730 billion (U.S.) dollars. In order to fully
understand the magnitude of power this organization has, we can compare their annual income to
every country s GDP. After doing this we notice that OPEC would be the 20th wealthiest nation
trumping 167 countries in the process. This fact is mind boggling because when we talk about
GDP we are talking about the value of all the finished goods and services produced within a
country. When we talk about OPEC we are talking about a single product which is crude oil. This
is worrisome for many reasons, first and foremost being that countries who are not members of the
organization don t want one organization controlling and monopolizing such a valuable resource.
The effects of monopolizing a single product is the power of setting a single price that everyone
else needs to follow. This is why America and other non OPEC countries deal with gouging oil
prices. The reasoning for OPEC doing this is clear from ridiculous profit margins to political
influence. The power that OPEC holds was never more prevalent than in the 1973 embargo on the
U.S. and European nations over the Arab Israeli War. The

Radioactive Elements Lab Report
In this report will be show my knowledge about radioactive.
Radioactive elements have unstable nuclei. There unstable nuclei give off radiation when the
nuclei start to break down(decay). The 3 types of radiation are Alpha, Beta and Gamma. An
Alpha particle (О±) is a helium nucleus that is a combination of two protons and two neutrons.
This type of radiation is found in heavy elements. The charge of Alpha is positive 2. The mass is
4 atoms. Alpha particle can be stopped by thin paper. The ionizing power for this particle is strong
because the charge is positive 2. A Beta particle (ОІ) is a fast moving electron comes from when an
unstable neutron breaks down and turns into a proton with an atomic mass of 1/1800, Beta has a 1
charge. Beta also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

plate to see how much radiation they are exposed to and to stop the Beta particles. Plus they are
use to tell if you have had too much radiation and to warn other people not to go to the same area
or else they will have to much radiation and die. It is impossible to be totally safe from ionizing
radiation because we are exposed to background radiation everyday.
Background Radiation is a low level radiation. There is always background radiation around us,
either from the environment such as rocks(granite), soils, plants and space(cosmic radiation)plus
flying high in planes as there is athiner atmosphere so less absorption, greater radiation and caused
by man made sources of radiation that comes from nuclear power plants, nuclear weapons, nuclear
wastes and x rays.

William Bradford Hardships
William Bradford created a detailed picture in our minds of the hardships the Pilgrims endured,
especially during their adventures on the Mayflower and Speedwell to find new land in hopes of
escaping England s control. Between furious seas, disease stricken passengers, and a cracked
beam on the Mayflower, the hope Pilgrims once had, was almost lost. Only the writings of William
Bradford could allow us to see what grueling torment our ancestors had to overcome.
Some of the many hardships that the sailors and passengers endured included furious storms,
terrible seasickness, abuse from the sailors and crew, dehydration and overall misery. The lack of
drinking water in combination with seasickness and no sanitation quickly grasped the bodies on
board. Drinking only beer, and lots of it, enabled the sailors and crewmembers to no point of
responsible reaction to mending the ship. Centuries ago, beer was so unfiltered that only a cup
would be enough to enable a child. Of course with drunkenness comes irresponsibility, and I m
certain rape was common upon the ship as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the voyage, two ships started off to sea. Speedwell soon would have to return
to land due to too much water intake. This left a damper on the precious time that was wasted
traveling back. Now two months late, the Mayflower is returning to sea with even more passengers
than anticipated. After making it halfway across the Atlantic, a storm ultimately demanded the
surrender of the Mayflower and a harsh wave cracked the main beam holding the ship together.
Religious Pilgrims thought these the were signs from their God, granting them the oppression they
deserved for their un Christian acts on board. Soon enough they would find land. But by the time
they would arrive the winters cruel frost and the overcoming diseases would take the lives of most

Essay About Moving College
One October day during my junior year of high school, I came home to see my parents anxiously
waiting for me behind the kitchen counter. They informed me that my dad had lost his job. My
initial worries, although selfish, surrounded what this change would mean for my college
education. Without an income, the burden of college would fall solely on my shoulders.
Thankfully, seven months later, my dad accepted an offer in a competitive position at a company
on the other side of the state. As soon as he accepted this position, he guaranteed a move in the near
future.

many things I had taken for granted that would shift to memories of the past. I ve had the same

thought a lot about what this move signifies for our family. This change felt like a major step into
the future of our family. It seemed as if my generation started taking over the role that my parent s
generation currently holds. Initially, the biggest difficulty revolved around the fact that I wouldn t
have my own room. My parents would have a guest room that I would stay in whenever I returned

case where fraudsters spend the least and can obtain a hefty reward through manipulating
companies into making payments. Cyber thieves have stolen $2 billion from 12,000 businesses

The Government And Its Infringement On Privacy

Is anyone s private information contained in their cell phone actually private? Are appointments,
bank information, conversations, the user s location or other sensitive personal information truly
confidential? Is there a Big Brother watching? There is no definitive answer to any of these
questions. From the beginning of time to now, privacy has become more and more scarce. Through
new developments in technology, it is hard to believe that someone is not watching your move at

Americans are subject to invasion of privacy by the government through the new wave of social
media and technology, new surveillance technologies and the ongoing war on terrorism.
One of the reasons cell phone privacy has become a controversial issue is due to cell phones and
other forms of technology becoming increasingly popular and widespread, especially amongst
American people. As of 2014, in fact, there were over 355 million cell phone subscriptions in the
U.S. according to the Cellular Telecommunications International ( Wireless Communications:
Voice and Data Privacy 1). This number has only increased exponentially as more people are
being attracted to the accessibility of Smartphones in particular. The reason many people are
afraid of their lives being violated, especially by the government, is because in today s society,
someone s entire life is on their cell phone. Every second of every day, that phone tracks where
people are, what people are doing, who people are with, and every other minor detail of life that
one might not want others to know. Eric Zeman from Opposing Viewpoints describes
Smartphones as being both a best friend and worst enemy (132). This is due to the fact that it can
be beneficial, but if it falls into the wrong hands it can be devastating and put one at risk.
Likewise, the government might be the ones trying to access the cell phone, the device with all

In order to make the second stage completely tax free DuPont had to satisfy a number of IRS rules
and regulations. These rules stated that DuPont had to control Conoco immediately before the split

motivated by a valid business purpose. Also DuPont had to get rid of all Conoco stock so it
would not have any control over the company after the deal was completed. Conoco had to be

Texas Concussions
AUSTIN, Texas This week, Texas will launch what state officials say is the nation s largest effort to

The University Interscholastic League, Texas governing body for public high school sports, is
partnering with the O Donnell Brain Institute at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center for the project, from which they hope to gauge whether rules or equipment changes are
improving player safety and what more can be done to protect athletes.

Introducing the payment on piece work basic as an incentive which would increase performance
and productivity. Taylor highlighted the link between financial incentive and the good
performance, he argued that the bonus should be paid to the best workers who can perform well

Taylor s theory underestimated human aspect and they pointed out that the employees are not only

such as job ambition and recognition at work places. The financial incentive is not the main force

In theory, financial incentive, rewarding bonus gets employees more participated, engaged and

Using Simulators For Advance Clinical Research
Using Simulators to Advance Clinical Research
Sheila E. Brooks
Stanbridge College
ABSTRACT Throughout history numerous reports of abuse in clinical trials have surfaced. These
reports shed light not only of emotional abuse but the physical abuse as well. As we will see, some
of the abuse continues today. This abuse has led to public mistrust and scrutiny even to this day.
Clinical research participants are hesitant to enroll in clinical research trails for fear of being
misled or mistreated. Clinical researcher nurses are in the unique position to ensure not only
patient safety but to elicit public trust. However, clinical research nurses do not have formal
educational tools to develop important skills such as critical thinking, communication, or clinical
skills which are necessary to ensure patient safety, to reduce clinical mistakes, and to increase
patient trust. One way to develop such skills is through the use of simulation. Throughout history
simulators have been used in a variety of fields such as the military and aviation. Medical schools
have used simulation to practice skills as well. To date, little research has been done in the use of
simulators in clinical research programs for nurses. The purpose of this paper is address how
simulators can improve critical thinking in research nurses through the use of nursing theory, health
promotion, and community resources. We will

The Battle Of Kapyong During The Korean War
The Battle of Kapyong was initiated by the Chinese and Korean forces that were attempting to
recapture lost territory. Aware of how crucial the land was to their enemy, UN forces dug in to
Kapyong Valley and prepared to cover the South Korean forces that were withdrawing from the
38th Parallel. The Canadians were located in Hill 677, and the Australians on Hill 504. The
Australians bore the brunt of the first attack and were forced to withdraw, overwhelmed by the
vast number of enemy troops. However, the soldiers of 2PPCLI stood their ground, and
prepared to meet the communist assault headfirst. Their defence proved to be a success, and the
last remaining soldiers of the Chinese army retreated with haste. The soldiers of 2PPCLI were
replaced by American reinforcements, allowed to get the rest they dearly deserved. From that
point onwards, little full scale battles took place, instead replaced by smaller skirmishes across
the 38th Parallel. The victory at Kapyong Valley was a turning point in the war; it stabilized the
frontlines, successfully covered the South Korean retreat, and protected Seoul from re occupation.
If it weren t for the Canadian s stand, the Chinese army would have an an excellent position to
make an assault on the South Korean Capital Seoul, and would meet comparatively little
opposition with the South Korean and UN forces weakened from previous battles. At the end of the
war the 2PPCLI and the other units that were defending the valley each received a

in the NCAA Division II championships. Coach Jackson understands the only collecting a set of

Therefore he emphasizes the spiritual in developing the team. Jackson had seven feet plus a former

The most important was to understand that the individuals on the team must transform their view

Internal Contradiction Of Capitalism Analysis
Capitalism is not a rigid, inflexible economic and political system there are many forms of
capitalism around the world. It is illustrated as being different variations of capitalism outside the
United States; there is the Dutch version, the French version, the British version, as well as the
American version. American capitalismimplements free market ideology and that makes the U.S.
stand out among other nations. Other nations do not dwell on privatization and deregulation nearly
as much as the U.S., which is both a major strength and critique of American capitalism. One
critique of American capitalism is the Five Internal Contradiction of Capitalism. These

The answer does not have to be socialism or any other economic policy, but reform is necessary to
save the lives of millions of Americans currently suffering in poverty. The current economic and
political policies are creating class inequality so dramatic that families cannot survive no matter
how hard they work. That is not the American Dream children learn in social studies classes year
after year. Students in the United States grow up learning about the many accomplishments the
country has made over the centuries and that in the United States, the right amount of drive and
determination can guarantee success. Coming out of high school and college, young adults learn
fast that establishing a life in the United States is difficult without reliable resources to aid them in
becoming independent. That is not feasible when the majority of wealth is only available to the
upper class. There is not enough wealth to create opportunities for everyone to thrive and those at
the bottom suffer for just not being fortunate enough. They are not given the same opportunities
and are preyed upon for being gullible and desperate for cash. In reality, it shows that those who are

The Problem Of Addiction Among Teenage Addiction
Eight grade, a time of merely adolescence. It has been recorded that by 8th grade 28% of
adolescents have consumed alcohol, 15% have smoked cigarettes, and 16.5% have used
marijuana. A drug can be defined as a something which alters your mind or body that is not food
something all of these substances have in common. As the years go by there has been a massive
increase in underage consumption of illegal substances. These substances which young people are
using are known for being very addictive, and being taken so young addiction is much more
likely to occur, possibly having more severe consequences. Throughout history, a plethora of
cultures have contributed to this problem of addiction which can be seen within their historical
roots. The collective perception that serious drugs could cure almost anything when used for
medicinal purposes, was a major ignition to the overall issue. As more and more countries began
to desire these various drugs as they became more available, the use of drugs spread rapidly
through what is known today as the global drugtrade. Through expansion of familiar substances
known as coffee, and opium during the earlier centuries, the concept of addiction has evolved
into what our society has become today. Use of drugs or illegal substances has been a recurring
theme over the past centuries. Originally discovered in Yemen, coffee gradually become a favorite
among the people. There were several legends on how exactly coffee came to be, the two

The Desert Is No Place For A Man And Cormac Mccarthy
The desert is no place for a man and Cormac McCarthy makes that perfectly clear from the onset of
Blood Meridian. At first, it s hard to tell which will be more desolate and brutal: the environment or
the men that traverse it. However, McCarthy initially seems to establish that unbridled nature will
triumph over man every time regardless of the circumstance. If natureis God, then man is hopeless
to stand against it. Yet McCarthy makes an important distinction between nature as it exists in
the wild and nature that has been tamed by man. Although a lot of his depiction of nature comes
from the landscape, he uses animals in a telling way to prove a larger point: nature is only so
powerful until it is conquered by men. It is an obvious approach to look at the ways in which the
landscape and the desert environment domineer over the gang of men throughout the novel. Less
obvious, and at the same time, painfully overt, is the role that wild animals take within the
framework of the story. The Judge is quoted as saying that God speaks in stones and trees, the
bones of things (116) and the overall understanding of this message is that god resides in nature;
the force of nature is the force of god.
This force is seen clearly the first time someone in the band is attacked by a bear. The first
compelling part in this scene is the way the men s horses react to the bear. One horse was
described as falling backward and [the Delaware] was trying to turn it, beating it about the head

Religion Affects Daily Life
How does Religion Affect Daily Lives?
The purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticise others. Dalai Lama. Religion is not
something people blindly follow for the hope of reaching heaven. At one point or another in life,
every person encounters the moment where they make the decision of being an active religious
person, a religious person but don t attend church, or don t believe in a superior power. Whether a
person chooses option one, two, or three, each choice brings consequences and a different life
with that choice. People live a different kind of life, with different goals to reach, and what kind of
life a person may want to live. Religion has a profound effect on people s daily lives, and the areas
it affects are work life, family life, and the standards a person holds.
Work Life
It happens to everyone, people are at work (or school) and have a project due on Monday, but
they see the clock ticking closer and closer to 5pm, and have that urge to slip out a few mins
early so they can get ahead of schedule on ordering the wings and pizza and getting good movie
tickets. The consequence of doing this is the person having to choose whether to finish the project
on Saturday, Sunday, or if the person really wants to push it, Monday morning. So what option are
you going to take?
Work Smarter, Not Harder
Full time committed religious people know the regular weekend schedule. Saturday is the day to

Concussions In Football, Footballs And Concussions In The NFL
To entice fans, the NFL implements multiple fantasy football leagues, the NFL Red Zone and
video games such as Madden. This brings a substantial amount of support to the NFL because
they allow the fans to feel like they are a real part of the game and not just part of the audience.
Due to this, the NFL season is made to be one of the most anticipated times of the year for
players, coaches, and especially fans. Sundays are dedicated to football in most American
households. So, it is no surprise that if one player takes a hard hit it is often over looked. In the
2015 football season the total number of reported concussions was 271. This is almost a 32%
increase from the previous year with only 206 reported concussions (Seifert). These numbers do not
account for all the concussions that go unreported and most concussions from this sport go
unreported. Any trauma to the braincan be harmful, but repeated concussions, like those that occur
in the NFL, and concussions without treatment make the symptoms worse. Most NFL players are
suffering but not a lot is being done about it.
News broadcasting stations used to accentuate the violence of the NFL and allowed anyone who
watched their shows to relive the hard hits players took weeks after they happened. [I]n the 1990s,
the ABC network opened its Monday Night Football broadcast with a montage that concluded with
two helmets smashing against each other and bursting into sparks. Turner Network Television

Cryptosporidiosis
Intestinal cryptosporidiosis is one of the most significant diarrheal diseases affecting people around
the world. The condition is caused by the oocyst forming protozoan parasite from the genus
Cryptosporidium that has the propensity to survive in and transmit through source waters, making
it a paramount public health threat.
Although the intestine is a primary target in all cases intestinal cryptosporidiosis, there can be
significant differences in the clinical presentation (depending on the host and parasite population).
The major groups at risk include immunocompetent individuals in developed countries, children in
developing countries, as well as immunocompromised hosts (most notably patients with acquired

It is also known that the CD4 T lymphocytes are indispensable for the resolution of acute and
chronic cryptosporidiosis.
Clinical presentation
Symptoms of cryptosporidiosis develop after a period of time called prepatent period (lasting on
average one week) during which the parasites invade the epithelial cells of the intestine and
proliferate. As a result of this invasion, immunocompetent adults usually present with watery
diarrhea that may in certain cases be profuse, prolonged and mucoid.
Accompanying symptoms are analogous to those in other diarrheal illnesses, including (but not
limited to) nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and low grade fever. Sometimes nonspecific
symptoms occur as well, for example weakness, muscle aches, headache, malaise and anorexia.
Although supportive therapy leads to a resolution of the disease, in as many as 40% of cases there
is a potential of chronic symptoms akin to irritable bowel syndrome. Relapses may follow a period
without a diarrhea that can last between several days and several weeks. Other chronic sequelae
may include fatigue, arthralgia and eye

ABSTRACT
Crime and corruption have become rampant today in our society and countless money is lost each
year due to white collar crime, fraud, and embezzlement.
This paper presents a technique of an ongoing work to combat white collar crime in telephone
transactions by identifying and verifying speakers using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). Results

Often after a long legal battle, the victims are left with a worthless judgement and no recovery.
One solution to avoid white collar crimes and shorten the lengthy time in locating and serving
perpetrators with a judgement is by the use of biometrics techniques for identifying and verifying
individuals. Biometrics are methods for recognizing a user based on his/her unique physiological
and/or behavioural characteristics. These characteristics include fingerprints, speech, face, retina,
iris, hand written signature, hand geometry, wrist veins, etc. Biometric systems are being
commercially developed for a number of financial and securit applications. Many people today
have access to their company s information systems by logging in from home. Also, internet
services and telephone banking are widely used by the corporate and private sectors. Therefore
to protect one s resources or information with a simple password is not reliable and secure in the
world of today. The conventional methods of using keys, access passwords and access cards are
being easily overcome by people with criminal intention.
Voice signals as a unique behavioral characteristics is proposed in this paper for speaker
identification and verification over short distance telephone lines using artificial neural networks.
This will address the white collar crimes over the telephone lines. Speaker identification [1] and

Roman Spectacles
Before taking this course, my perception of Roman spectacles was unfortunately heavily based
upon what I was told by my elders or what I saw in movies like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii.
Taking this course has been the biggest eye opener regarding the truth about what really
happened in Ancient Rome, specifically regarding spectacles. I also feel like I ve learned that I
should not just aimlessly believe what I am told or what I see in movies, because people clearly

they say becomes the truth . One of the biggest misconceptions I learned from this class that I

How could Hollywood lie to me like that?! Films like Gladiator, Hercules and Pompeii all lead
me to believe that arenas contained things like animals, pits that warriors could fall into at
anytime, and even were able to house full armies fighting each other to the death, but instead the
reality was far different. Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial
combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things
like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. Everything
shown in the movies is hyper exaggerated in comparison to what actually occurred because
Hollywood cares more about keeping the viewers interested, and dazzling them with wondrous
images of Ancient Rome, then being accurate. Even things like the armour many of the
gladiators wore was not accurately depicted. In the movies some of them were shirtless and did
not wear helmets, which was definitely not the reality because they generally always wore
helmets, armour and tunics. They would wear these things for protection because, contrary to the
movies, gladiators did not fight to the death. They were actually highly valuable for
entertainment, and cost a lot of money to train, so their lives mattered to the sponsors, therefore
it was rare that they were killed in combat. Finding out this information really has changed my
perspective on all movies regarding Ancient Rome, but specifically the ones that include
gladiatorial combat, because next time I see a new film I will be aware of what is real or fake and
this will force me to make others aware of these inaccuracies as

and be genetically altered. To get paralysed from this type of poliovirus is very rare. THe paralytic

It helps to provide immunity to polio and blocks transmission of the virus. There are two main
types of polio vaccine. The first attempted immunization was made by purifying a specific section
of the blood plasma. This was not ideal or widespread use because the supply of blood plasma was
too much.
IVP(Inactivated polio vaccine): This vaccine is made of a dose of an inactivated (dead)
poliovirus. It is grown in a type of monkey kidney tissue and is inactivated. The vaccine provides
immunity to the bloodstream through antibodies and stops the progression of the virus into the

given to children because they are more at risk and adults are mostly immune and not exposed to
the wild poliovirus. Since it is not a live virus it cannot cause vaccine associated polio paralysis. It
does not protect the intestines as well as OPV and the virus can still multiply inside the intestines.

Prayer Definition Essay
How easy is it to become disheartened or weary about praying? If we re really honest with
ourselves, it s pretty easy at times, especially when our prayers seem to go unanswered. How
about distractions? How easy is it to allow distractions to interrupt your prayers? How frustrating
is it when those unexpected thoughts pop into your head while praying? On average, how long
can you pray before these distractions take effect? If you re fortunate, it may be several minutes
before things we forgot to do or need to do just pop into our mind. We catch ourselves and go
right back into our prayers only to be distracted again, at some later time. Do you think this happens
with every Christian? How about with Billy Graham, R. C. Sproul, Vernon McGee... Show more

Take a moment to think about ten of them. If I asked you, where in the world is the hardest place
to pray, where would you say? The hardest place would be here in the United States. Why?
Awesome question! As Americans, we ve become so caught up in a culture of always doing
something that it s hard to slow down and pray for any length of time. It feels uncomfortable or
feels like we re wasting valuable time. Our society has placed such a high premium on
accomplishments or on being productive that prayer sometimes goes against the grain of our
society. Do we see any accomplishments in prayer? Are we being productive when we pray?
Prayer is nothing more than talking to God, but how many of us feel like it s hopeless or
useless? We pray for healing only to continue in sickness. We ask for victory over sin only to
find defeat. What good does it do to pray? Another problem with the American culture is our
attention span. When we re not working, we re watching television, playing video games,
surfing the Internet(s) or on our smartphones. The next time you go to a restaurant or to the
movie theaters, look around to see how many people are on their phones. Being still and quiet is
not in the American culture. Sin is another thing which keeps us from praying as we ought to. In
William Shakespeare s Hamlet Act III, scene iii, Hamlet sneaks in to kill King Claudius, who
killed his own brother and Hamlet s father. At the end of the scene, Hamlet realized he cannot kill
Claudius and sneaks back out of the room and we hear Claudius say, My words fly up, my
thoughts remain low. Words without thought never to heaven go. Claudius tried to repent for
committing murder, but he couldn t. We see him kneeling in prayer, but he couldn t feel any sense

Fault-Based Divorce
Is it time to move away from fault based divorce?
In this article I will be writing about whether the current divorce law needs reforming. In order to
move away from fault based divorce. If the fault based divorce was to be removed would it reduce
bitterness between the parties. With divorce enquiries reportedly at a 10 year high, pressure is
growing from family law professionals led by family law solicitors association Resolution for
reform of the existing fault based system to enable spouses to divorce within a matter of months,
without the need to attribute blame.
Under current law, the single ground for divorce is the irretrievable breakdown of a marriage but,
for this to be established, there must be reliance by the petitioner ... Show more content on

In the 19th century and for much of the 20th, divorce was a matter of social status it mattered
whether you were divorced or not, and if you were, it was important to demonstrate that you
were the innocent party. All that, I think, has gone. Defended divorces are now effectively
unheard of. Wall was on the Whitehall advisory group that backed no fault divorces in the
Family Law Act 1996, but opponents said it made breaking up too easy and the plans were
scrapped by Tony Blair s Labour government. He said it was unfortunate that the family justice
system had been grafted on to an adversarial common law structure. Thus, however inquisitorial
we try to be, there are some issues of fact, particularly in public law, which have to be decided

Defleur s Open-Systems Model
Since Canada and the United States share a border sometimes the advertisements from America are
viewed on Canadian television. Canadian heavy viewers of U.S. produced television seemed
particularly unconscious of Canadian culture and of television s potential harm to inter personal
relations. These viewers may be either consciously attempting to become more American through
their viewing habits; or, they may be exhibiting the subconscious acculturating effects of U.S.
televisionviewing. From the perspective of an open systems model (DeFleur Ball Rokeach, 1982)
and the implications from the literature, U.S. media domination may be one of the acculturating
agents, along with similar social forces; social contacts and other interpersonal

The Aims and the Results of the Attempts by the Nazi Regime to Transform German Society
When the Nazis came to power in 1933 they began to introduce a set of ideas into the German
society. These ideas were based on the Nazi ideology, which had been outlined by Hitler in his
book Mein Kampf or My Struggle a few years earlier. This essay will examine the Nazis attempts
to integrate their ideological beliefs about youth and about women into the German society. The
essay will also assess the success of this integration.
The Nazis had a number of different aims for the youth and therefore their education needed to be
suitable. The Nazis overall aim was to create a generation of racially pure ... Show more content on

Overall the Nazis aimed to concentrate a large majority of their resources on the conversion of the
youth to Nazi ideology. This was a key aim because the Nazis saw the youth as the future of
Germany and they wanted to have an influence over this generation. Another major aim for the
Nazis was the creation of a national racial community. This idea was known as the
Volksgemeinschaft and was central to the Nazi view of the future.
It wasn t only through youth groups that the youth were indoctrinated to the Nazi regime. The
education system was also completely geared to spreading the Nazi party propaganda. For example
the curriculum was designed around the Nazi ideology. Geography taught the boys map skills
and other skills that would be critical during a war. History taught the Nazi version of History,
which was a contrived version of events, which blamed the Jews for all of Germany s problems in
the past. Even subjects such as Maths were used by the Nazis to further their cause with lesson
concentrating on the angles of ballistics and other such material.
The Nazi views towards women were also presented in the educational system with a girls
education being divided into a number of different lessons each one of which encouraged a life at
home. Examples of these lessons include Hauswirtschaft. This involved domestic science, cooking,
house and garden

Describe The Main Hypothesis Tested In The Study
1.Describe the main hypothesis tested in the study.
The main hypothesis being tested within the study was whether or not the fusiform gyrus was a
Region of Interest (ROI) that specialised in the perception of the human face. This main hypothesis
was confirmed in Part 1 of testing and was thus expanded in Part II and III, in which they
eliminated alternative hypothesis.
2.Explain why this new ROI technique is important for fMRI research.
The Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a functional neuroimaging procedure that
used MRI technology to measure our brains activity through blood flow changes and our voxels.
In past experiments the researcher would have been required to scan images of the entire brain for
each comparison, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Explain one of the alternative accounts of the function of the FFA and how the current study is able
to refute (prove wrong) this account.
Imaging studies in the past have reported that the region of the fusiform gyrus is more active during
face recognition than object viewing, during face matching than location matching and during
viewing normal faces other than scrambled faces or textures. This research was a great beginning,
but it does not establish that this FFA is specifically involved in face recognition, as there is a range
of alternative interpretations of what can activate our brains. These alternative interpretations
include low level feature extraction, visual attention that is greater in faces and recognition of basic
items and recognition of human objects.
To test the first hypothesis the researcher ran an initial test to determine that the Region of Interest
was the fusiform gyrus. Following this he then measured the activity in this specific region to
subjects using four comparison tasks. Each of these tasks tested the alternative accounts that were
previously listed.
Part III tested one of these alternative accounts for faces compared with another human object e.g
hands. In these tests the data that was collected displayed higher intensity reactions in the ROI
when parts of the face were compared to viewing human

I Am A Bachelor Of Science Psychology
I am a Bachelor of Science Psychology major at my university, and my love for behavioral
sciences is so impeccable that I am complex on deciding what area to choose for my future
career. I come from a family with members who suffer from either mental disorder, substance
abuse, or adolescence issues. So it makes my decision even more difficult, because I want to
help the world. However, I am leaning more towards a career in social work because the field is
so diverse. Social work allows you to interact with people of all cultures and hardships. Within this
field there are issues just like every other field in society, it has encouraging trends as well as
problematic trends. The encouraging trends of Psychologyin Social Work are in the schools for one
example. The children in our school system are sometimes troubled, and in the past the focus has
only been on academic struggles and peer pressure. Many adolescents turn to drugs and alcohol to
cope with abuse, bullying, and other mentally draining issues, and unfortunately, sometimes suicide.
Now, these days, the focus has expanded to the student s outside life. This means focusing on
poverty, violence, home life, environment, and cultural issues. I am a true believer in the molding
process begins at home. It is hard for a student to do their best if they are hurting emotionally and
mentally at home. With this amazing shift in focus we are not only helping to develop better
students, we may be saving lives along the way

The parties have a set amount of time to review the recommendations before they are posted
publicly. They have 10 days to notify the Minister of their acceptance of the recommendations. If
both parties accept the recommendations, they are binding. If one or both of the parties does
not indicate acceptance of the recommendations, the Labour Relations Board conducts a vote of
the party or parties that did not accept them. If the recommendations are rejected again after the
vote, the parties can continue negotiating a settlement on their own, or give a 72 hour notice to
strike or lockout. Government pays the costs associated with a DIB. Public Emergency Tribunal
(PET) In the case of an existing, or imminent strike or lockout, the provincial government has the
option to end a dispute by declaring a public emergency and referring the matter to a Public
Emergency Tribunal (PET), which is a form of compulsory arbitration. This is only used when a
dispute may result in damage to health or property (e.g., disruption of health services, water
plant, etc.) or unreasonable hardship is placed on persons not involved in the dispute. A time
period will be set during which the parties can meet on their own or with a government appointed
mediator to reach a settlement. If a settlement cannot be reached on or before the fixed date, the
dispute is referred to the PET. The PET process is initiated and the Minister fixes a deadline by
which the PET must issue a binding award.

WASP Stereotypes Of Southern Italian Immigrants
The United States was and is widely known as a melting pot . Common belief holds that America
welcomed hopeful immigrants from overseas, and provided them with opportunities that would
give them better lives for themselves and their families. While such a statement is technically true
in general, the issues in regards to prejudice and racism, is where the metaphor weakens for
America as a beacon of hope for immigrants. Many people today believe that Americans have
always embraced and encouraged the melting potconcept. However, WASP stereotypes of
immigrants were the driving force behind the quality of treatment received by immigrant groups. It
was the group they hated, which made it difficult for immigrants to be seen as individuals, let...

They even created shrines within their homes for particular Saints, so they could pray properly in
absence of a church. The church and government gave the Southern Italians deep trust issues when
it comes to institutions and people outside of their family and village. The family became the most
important institution in Southern Italy, and this belief carried over with them to The United States.
The WASPs viewed the Southern Italians opposition to religious institutions as disrespectful and
anti religious. In the eyes of WASPs, the Southern Italians antagonistic attitude towards church was
worse than the fact that they were Catholics. A difference in religion was cause for dislike, but an
absence of religious practices, or so they thought, was immoral.
One of the biggest stereotypes depicting Southern Italians as immoral is the idea that they are all
affiliated with the Mafia. This WASP belief was formed based on a .0025% of truth. An extremely
small population of the Southern Italians engaged in organized crime. However, WASPs believed
that all organized crime was run by Italians, and that all Southern Italians were involved or
connected with the crimes in some way. The Italian way of closeness of family and exclusiveness
of anyone who was not family, helped confirm the WASPs theory of intertwined

The Theory Of Intelligence, And Multiple Intelligences Theory
Ever since the inception of Psychology as a scientific field people have wondered of the origins ,
factors of Intelligence. Thinkers from as early as the Greek school of philosophy pondered what
made one man smart ,and another dull. Early england thought that they could correlate the size of a
man s head with his intelligence. Though it was only when psychologists started testing people
using exams aimed at cognitive processes did real scientific theories start to emerge. The question
I began with when starting this project is, What theory of intelligence most accurately models it?
My question came from going over some college board sources over intelligence , wondering about
it s various theories So with a significant amount of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also believed that this general factor transcended all cultural values placed in different skills ,
was linked to genetics. He was not responsible for the introduction of cognitive testing to
psychology ,but he came up with a formula that corrected a coefficient used in analyzing test
results which assured that correlation in scores was correctly displayed. He found that success in
one area of the test usually assured success in most areas. Spearman acknowledged that people
could develop talents outside of those he measured ,but he attributed them to more skill/experience
than innate mental ability. Modern research has uncovered that the G factor is comparable to a
rate, People with higher levels of G learn more with less time , less assistance than those with
lower levels.
Research that supports this theory is that scientists placed various people under a CAT scan
while providing simple stimulation. People predicted to have higher G factors from iq tests
were shown to be faster at responding to simple stimuli. Additionally recreations of the
experiment in various places show that it does in fact transcend the borders of culture.
Additionally there has been for a long time, a direct correlation with iq , success. People with
higher iq s are more likely to make it into higher education, get a impressive career , generally
succeed. For people with lower intelligence the exact inverse was found in addition to being more
likely to commit a crime.

Three Phase Induction Motors
Introduction: The three phase induction motor is considered the mostly used electrical motor in all
the industrial applications. The three phase induction motors are considered good because of their
simplicity, rigidity, cheapness, easily maintained and could be made up with features that are
suitable for most industrial requirements.
What is the Three Phase Motor? This motor (similarly to any other electrical motor) has a stator
and a rotor; the stator s role is to carry a three phase winding (stator winding) which is supplied
from a three phase supply. While the rotor s role is to carry a short circuit winding (rotor winding),
the electromagnetic induction is the way through which the rotor winding gains the voltage and the
power from the stator winding.

Construction of the machine:
As illustrated above, the three phase induction motor consists of two main parts; a) stator which is
the fixed non moving part, b) rotor which is the moving (rotational motion) part fitting into the
stator. the only separation between these two parts is a small gap of air with a distance ranging
from 0.4 mm to 4 mm, this distance depends on the motor s power.

Lessons Learned In The True American
While reading the freshman reader The True American, I discovered that we all could take away
some important lessons from this book. This book is filled with many different lessons we all
could learn, but it just depends on how you comprehend it. The first lesson I believe people can
learn is that even if you get hurt by someone doesn t mean you should wantthem to suffer. I think
this lesson is important because to many people today always wants karma to happen to others,
once they have done something to them. Another lesson I think people can learn from this book is
never change your feelings about yourself and who you are. These lessons are just a couple of the
lessons found in The True American. People always seem to think that because

  • 2. Water Should Be Clean And Safe For Consumption Introduction Water is a crucial part of life; the human body is made up of 75 percent water, (Pandey, 2005). It is one of the most pivotal nutrients in the human body due to its functions like carrying nutrients in and out of cells in living creatures. Water is also essential in the removal of waste products from the body and also in the regulation of body temperature in warm blooded organisms, (Pandey, 2005). Research has revealed that human beings can live without food for a month, but they cannot last more than seven days without water; if the body loses more than ten to fifteen percent of water, it can be fatal and lead to death, (Pandey, 2005). Due to the vital nature of this resource, water should be clean and safe for consumption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As such sanitation and hygiene contribute immensely to the burden of health such countries. Countries with such vulnerabilities with respect to lack of clean and safe water are predisposed to water related diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and diarrhea, this is from a United Nations report which also stated that these diseases have a potential to stifle growth, (Pandey, 2005). Research reports on the impact of water related illnesses reveal that thousands of outbreaks occurs and are mostly due to bacterial parasitic and virus microorganism; these outbreaks occur mainly due to the consumption of untreated water. The world health organization in the year 1996 estimated that every eight seconds, a person would die due to illness that emanates from drinking unsafe water; this means that over five million people die of such illnesses annually which is a very high number considering the advances made with respect to water pollution control. An important portion of the health burden caused by water related diseases can be attributed to the way water resources are managed and developed; some of the resources being cited include dams and irrigation schemes. These resources increase incidences of Malaria, schistosomiasis, Japanese encephalitis in areas they have been established, (Pandey, 2005). Drinking and bathing in dirty water are by far the most common means through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Symbolism In Lot Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson Lot of the Lottery Brittney Hale ENGL 1302 Ms. Mary Elle Young 10 03 17 Shirley Jackson s The Lottery , is a story that is filled with symbolism. The author uses symbolism to help her represent the human race as cruel no matter how righteous he or she may see themselves, or how perfect their way of life may seem to be. The story is very effective in making the reader question the unnecessary nature humans express, especially when it comes to tradition or violent behavior. Jackson effectively expresses her beliefs concerning mankind s true nature that is commonly masked behind tradition. The author portrays how inhumane and cruel people can be when it comes to their values and everyday life. Jackson presents the theme of this short story with a major use of symbolism. Symbolism is shown throughout the setting of The Lottery, objects, contestant s names and numbers. The author makes it well known to the reader that the black box is the central theme of the passage. The box symbolizes, at first, that something more ominous is to come. Jackson s choice of the color black is a perfect example for the story, it symbolizes death and complete darkness. A town person s fate lies in the hands of this inanimate object. The black box is an excellent representation of the sacrifice the citizens are willing to give to keep up with traditions. The author not only used the color of the box to symbolize what was happening in the town, but also the condition of the box. The no longer completely black but splintered box portrays the decaying of the original religious ideals the lottery (Jackson 230) was founded upon. Even though the citizens felt uneasy about the box, and would even keep their distance from the stool with the black box on it (thoughtco). They do not question the origin of the black box, but they accept it as a way of life. The names of the character play a significant role in developing the story. Quite a few of the names are more obvious than others, such as Delacroix, which translates as of the cross . Others, such as Adams, make the reader think more in depth about them. One of the main characters, Mrs. Delacroix, appears often in the story. She is a companion of Tessie, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Petroleum As Vital For Human Existence As Water Austin Kiesewetter Mrs. Ioanna HCC English 3 Petroleum as Vital to Human Existence as Water From the development of the Industrial Revolution to the Information Age we live in today our civilization has been able to progress with the help of the Industrial Revolution s basic necessity known as petroleum. This resource is so valuable that it has been the reason of 6 global conflicts and the creation of a trillion dollar industry. In order to keep up with demand, the United States has been forced to rely on importing 80% of its crude oil. This niche was filled from the creation of OPEC who uses price gouges to create an economic boom in their country, through unifying and controlling the industry. This economic boom produced by OPEC amounts to an annual 730 billion (U.S.) dollars. In order to fully understand the magnitude of power this organization has, we can compare their annual income to every country s GDP. After doing this we notice that OPEC would be the 20th wealthiest nation trumping 167 countries in the process. This fact is mind boggling because when we talk about GDP we are talking about the value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country. When we talk about OPEC we are talking about a single product which is crude oil. This is worrisome for many reasons, first and foremost being that countries who are not members of the organization don t want one organization controlling and monopolizing such a valuable resource. The effects of monopolizing a single product is the power of setting a single price that everyone else needs to follow. This is why America and other non OPEC countries deal with gouging oil prices. The reasoning for OPEC doing this is clear from ridiculous profit margins to political influence. The power that OPEC holds was never more prevalent than in the 1973 embargo on the U.S. and European nations over the Arab Israeli War. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. William Bradford Hardships William Bradford created a detailed picture in our minds of the hardships the Pilgrims endured, especially during their adventures on the Mayflower and Speedwell to find new land in hopes of escaping England s control. Between furious seas, disease stricken passengers, and a cracked beam on the Mayflower, the hope Pilgrims once had, was almost lost. Only the writings of William Bradford could allow us to see what grueling torment our ancestors had to overcome. Some of the many hardships that the sailors and passengers endured included furious storms, terrible seasickness, abuse from the sailors and crew, dehydration and overall misery. The lack of drinking water in combination with seasickness and no sanitation quickly grasped the bodies on board. Drinking only beer, and lots of it, enabled the sailors and crewmembers to no point of responsible reaction to mending the ship. Centuries ago, beer was so unfiltered that only a cup would be enough to enable a child. Of course with drunkenness comes irresponsibility, and I m certain rape was common upon the ship as well. ... After making it halfway across the Atlantic, a storm ultimately demanded the surrender of the Mayflower and a harsh wave cracked the main beam holding the ship together. They informed me that my dad had lost his job. My initial worries, although selfish, surrounded what this change would mean for my college education. Without an income, the burden of college would fall solely on my shoulders. Thankfully, seven months later, my dad accepted an offer in a competitive position at a company on the other side of the state. This change felt like a major step into the future of our family. It seemed as if my generation started taking over the role that my parent s generation currently holds. Initially, the biggest difficulty revolved around the fact that I wouldn t have my own room. Americans are subject to invasion of privacy by the government through the new wave of social media and technology, new surveillance technologies and the ongoing war on terrorism. One of the reasons cell phone privacy has become a controversial issue is due to cell phones and other forms of technology becoming increasingly popular and widespread, especially amongst American people. As of 2014, in fact, there were over 355 million cell phone subscriptions in the U.S. according to the Cellular Telecommunications International ( Wireless Communications: Voice and Data Privacy 1). This number has only increased exponentially as more people are being attracted to the accessibility of Smartphones in particular. The reason many people are afraid of their lives being violated, especially by the government, is because in today s society, someone s entire life is on their cell phone. Every second of every day, that phone tracks where people are, what people are doing, who people are with, and every other minor detail of life that one might not want others to know. Eric Zeman from Opposing Viewpoints describes Smartphones as being both a best friend and worst enemy (132). • 26. The Desert Is No Place For A Man And Cormac Mccarthy The desert is no place for a man and Cormac McCarthy makes that perfectly clear from the onset of Blood Meridian. At first, it s hard to tell which will be more desolate and brutal: the environment or the men that traverse it. However, McCarthy initially seems to establish that unbridled nature will triumph over man every time regardless of the circumstance. If natureis God, then man is hopeless to stand against it. Yet McCarthy makes an important distinction between nature as it exists in the wild and nature that has been tamed by man. Although a lot of his depiction of nature comes from the landscape, he uses animals in a telling way to prove a larger point: nature is only so powerful until it is conquered by men. It is an obvious approach to look at the ways in which the landscape and the desert environment domineer over the gang of men throughout the novel. Less obvious, and at the same time, painfully overt, is the role that wild animals take within the framework of the story. The Judge is quoted as saying that God speaks in stones and trees, the bones of things (116) and the overall understanding of this message is that god resides in nature; the force of nature is the force of god. This force is seen clearly the first time someone in the band is attacked by a bear. The first compelling part in this scene is the way the men s horses react to the bear. Although there were venatores who hunted animals, in gladiatorial combat animals were never used. They also generally fought in flat arenas, with no fancy things like pits to fall into. Gladiatorial combat also typically only occurred man to man. There are two main types of polio vaccine. The first attempted immunization was made by purifying a specific section of the blood plasma. This was not ideal or widespread use because the supply of blood plasma was too much. IVP(Inactivated polio vaccine): This vaccine is made of a dose of an inactivated (dead) poliovirus. It is grown in a type of monkey kidney tissue and is inactivated. The vaccine provides immunity to the bloodstream through antibodies and stops the progression of the virus into the nervous system. A more potent version of this vaccine is used in North America. Generally only given to children because they are more at risk and adults are mostly immune and not exposed to the wild poliovirus. • 38. Prayer Definition Essay How easy is it to become disheartened or weary about praying? If we re really honest with ourselves, it s pretty easy at times, especially when our prayers seem to go unanswered. How about distractions? How easy is it to allow distractions to interrupt your prayers? How frustrating is it when those unexpected thoughts pop into your head while praying? On average, how long can you pray before these distractions take effect? If you re fortunate, it may be several minutes before things we forgot to do or need to do just pop into our mind. We catch ourselves and go right back into our prayers only to be distracted again, at some later time. Do you think this happens with every Christian? How about with Billy Graham, R. C. Sproul, Vernon McGee... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take a moment to think about ten of them. If I asked you, where in the world is the hardest place to pray, where would you say? The hardest place would be here in the United States. Why? Awesome question! As Americans, we ve become so caught up in a culture of always doing something that it s hard to slow down and pray for any length of time. It feels uncomfortable or feels like we re wasting valuable time. Our society has placed such a high premium on accomplishments or on being productive that prayer sometimes goes against the grain of our society. Do we see any accomplishments in prayer? Are we being productive when we pray? Prayer is nothing more than talking to God, but how many of us feel like it s hopeless or useless? We pray for healing only to continue in sickness. We ask for victory over sin only to find defeat. What good does it do to pray? Another problem with the American culture is our attention span. When we re not working, we re watching television, playing video games, surfing the Internet(s) or on our smartphones. The next time you go to a restaurant or to the movie theaters, look around to see how many people are on their phones. Being still and quiet is not in the American culture. Sin is another thing which keeps us from praying as we ought to. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet Act III, scene iii, Hamlet sneaks in to kill King Claudius, who killed his own brother and Hamlet s father. At the end of the scene, Hamlet realized he cannot kill Claudius and sneaks back out of the room and we hear Claudius say, My words fly up, my thoughts remain low. Words without thought never to heaven go. Claudius tried to repent for committing murder, but he couldn t. We see him kneeling in prayer, but he couldn t feel any sense of comfort or mercy from God. It wasn t only through youth groups that the youth were indoctrinated to the Nazi regime. The education system was also completely geared to spreading the Nazi party propaganda. The main hypothesis being tested within the study was whether or not the fusiform gyrus was a Region of Interest (ROI) that specialised in the perception of the human face. This main hypothesis was confirmed in Part 1 of testing and was thus expanded in Part II and III, in which they eliminated alternative hypothesis. 2.Explain why this new ROI technique is important for fMRI research. Explain one of the alternative accounts of the function of the FFA and how the current study is able to refute (prove wrong) this account. Imaging studies in the past have reported that the region of the fusiform gyrus is more active during face recognition than object viewing, during face matching than location matching and during viewing normal faces other than scrambled faces or textures. This research was a great beginning, but it does not establish that this FFA is specifically involved in face recognition, as there is a range of alternative interpretations of what can activate our brains. These alternative interpretations include low level feature extraction, visual attention that is greater in faces and recognition of basic items and recognition of human objects. To test the first hypothesis the researcher ran an initial test to determine that the Region of Interest was the fusiform gyrus. Following this he then measured the activity in this specific region to subjects using four comparison tasks. Each of these tasks tested the alternative accounts that were previously listed. Part III tested one of these alternative accounts for faces compared with another human object e.g hands. In these tests the data that was collected displayed higher intensity reactions in the ROI when parts of the face were compared to viewing human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The encouraging trends of Psychologyin Social Work are in the schools for one example. The children in our school system are sometimes troubled, and in the past the focus has only been on academic struggles and peer pressure. Many adolescents turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with abuse, bullying, and other mentally draining issues, and unfortunately, sometimes suicide. Now, these days, the focus has expanded to the student s outside life. This means focusing on poverty, violence, home life, environment, and cultural issues.
