Edgar Allan Poe Impact
I have made no money. I am as poor now as ever I was in my life, was a quote from Edgar Allan
Poe. This quote can be applied to his career but also to both of his father s David Poe and John
Allen. Both men have left an scaring impact on Edgar s life. Even though, the men have had a
negative impact they have inspired many of his poems and have made him who he is which is
unquestionable. Poe s personality is dark and unhappy which has been blamed accordingly to the
men in his life. The men David Poe and John Allan have impacted his life by abandonment, money,
and not being loyal to him. During Edgar Allan Poes life men have had a negative lasting impact,
more specifically his father David Poe and his biological father John Allen have made

During the 6th centuries Japanese sent aid to Paekche that was the one of three kingdoms of Korea
in the battle with China. Despite of the aid, Packche could not repel China so did Japanese army.
As a result, Japanese took step back from the battle. They returned to Japan with Packche refugees
who brought their own culture. At this time period, Japanese felt threatened from foreign powers
and afraid of losing their own identity so that they had an urgent matter to build a solid state from
separated nations in order to strengthen its national power and its own unique culture. Nihon shoki

The Education Sector On The Global Scale Of South Africa
Philanthropist, anti apartheid revolutionary, and politician who also served as President of South
Africa, Nelson Mandela, the most powerful weapon that one can use to change the world is
education( Mandela n.p). Despite the literacy level gradually raising globally due to advancement
in technology that has made learning easy, fast and efficient. Most of the countries in Africa, Asia
and some states in America still languish in poverty due to high rates of unemployment and low
minimum wages. These unfortunate and deplorable conditions have deterred these areas from

of work, poorly conducted research, wanting reading culture, deplorable states of the libraries,
economic disparities and overall low quality of education shall be addressed. The quality of
research at the college level is mostly dependent on the availability of textbooks. Whether for the
Science or Humanity college students, their research demands many books at ago to compare
opinions of different scholars and how different authors have tackles a given concept (McMillan
3). This helps the learner to conceptualize the principles and ideologies behind different theories.
It is only by understanding the fundamental principles that the learners can be innovative and
develop products that can make the world a better place (Lockheed 22). Furthermore, this deeper
grasp of the concepts is what will enable learners to develop real solutions to the problems that
are facing humanity today like contagious and terminal diseases, food crisis, and economic
recessions and unlock the potential of many economies across the world (McMillan 5). Research
has also offered a platform for young scientists and scholars to stretch their intellectual stamina.
Unfortunately, all this will building castles in the air if the costs of textbooks is not lowered to

Reflection Of Success In College
One of the question on the board I d like to respond to that was very early in the semester is what
does success look like. My original response to this was, There multiple ways to answer this.
Success is being happy, but smiling is a look associated with happiness, but depressed people can
smile and laugh too. So to answer what successactually looks like is someone who show s
continuous genuine happiness. The best way to achieve that status is to have your stress levels at a
minimum. After being in college for the rest of the semester I think for the most part my answer
stays the same. I still believe success is when you are truly happy in the world you live in, but I
can explain this a lot better. Success is when you don t have to worry about things in life
anymore. When you don t have to work to get yourself out of bed in the morning and knowing
what you have to face for the rest of the day. Success is when you can say to yourself, i m glad
that the things that I did in my past lead me to this point I am at now. To the new me that s what
success looks like. It s not an easy thingto obtain but everyone can obtain it as long as the keep an
optimistic view on life and remember to just keep moving forward.
Another question I liked from the board that I jotted down was what works? My initial response
to this was this. Friends partying helps a lot. It s so much relief but you have to keep it at a
balance. Another thing that helped out a lot was teachers who curve or

Jack The Ripper Myths
This is not a book about Jack the Ripper.
That would be an understandable misconception his name is, after all, in the title, and multiple
books claiming to be about the victims or other surrounding topics do indeed end up focusing on
the Ripper himself. The Ripper s identity is, after all, one of the great historical mysteries and the
focus of over one hundred books. This is not one of them.
Although many pages have been devoted to concluding exactly how many women were killed by
Jack the Ripper, the most commonly agreed upon victims make up the so called canonical five:
Mary Ann Polly Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Liz Stride, Catherine Kate Eddowes, and
Mary Jane (or Marie Jeanette) Kelly. These women were found murdered in the

Techniques In Middle Passage
Reading Portfolio
Middle Passage is a novel filled with different techniques such as allusions, foreshadowing, humor,
character transitions, and many other techniques. Charles Johnson, the author of this amazing
novel wanted the readers to acknowledge the past and present events. He connects the past and the
present with many different examples. One example is when the police hit Santos for no reason.
This comparison is made very clear and simple enough for the readers to understand that police
brutality continues to this day. Charles Johnson uses such vibrant words to make the reader feel,
smell, hear everything that was going on in the novel. It s as if this book comes to life throughout
his descriptions, and the techniques used that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Allmuseri believe that what is inside the crate that is being carried in The Republic is the
driving force of the universe. However, Falcon does not care about that, Falcon thrives to become
famous, and to have wealth. He does not care about the people or anything; his desire is to leave a
footprint, a mark in history.
In class we discussed that Falcon treated everyone horrible, and the slaves in the ship took every
breath almost as it would be their last breath.
This is what slavery was all about throughout history not mattering where we were to be found.
Although there really is a difference. Enslaved on a slave ship is much more extreme. The
horrible sleeping conditions, the claustrophobic space, beatings of the slaves for no reason, mal
nutrition. These are the devastating conditions that slaves on a slave ship endured each day of the
passage. In Middle Passage Rutherford Calhoun is a character of deceit, intellect and a
manipulator. However, there is a transition that Rutherford undergoes in the novel. A freed slave

Hemodialysis In Nursing
Transitioning Into Dialysis
Krista M Walter
Western Governors University
End stage renal disease causes a total life change for someone. Hemodialysis is a type of care
people can choose when their kidneys fail. Kidney failure patients have to start limiting their
fluids, start a new renal diet, and attend dialysis usually three days a week for an average of four
hours each visit. A person with kidneyfailure whole lifestyle changes. This is an emotional and
lifestyle transition for anyone starting on dialysis. This article is research on how people transition
into this new life of being on hemodialysis and how to make that transition easier. The purpose of
this qualitative research is how a person can adapt and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers put the data received in the interviews into a conceptual map. In the concept map,
they had two categories, the first one that helps a person move into a healthy transition is the
facilitator factors in transition to dialysis, which include personal factors and social factors. The
second category leads to an unhealthy transition and these are the inhibitor factors. The factors
would include personal factors, social factors, and economic problems that arise. Another part of
the conceptual map shows a turning circle that is a constant battle that people must fight to keep
moving towards a healthy transition into dialysis. Another way the researchers analyzed the data
from this study, was by reporting what the people said about their transition into dialysis. For many
of these people, it was a terrible experience. People also shared how hard this life change was on
them and their families. While others shared how they got through the transition positively, and
how other dialysis patients can do the same. In the interviews, they discussed physical changes,
mental changes, and social changes that all took place during this transition into dialysis. In
conclusion, the authors see that now they have more ways to help someone new coming into
hemodialysis after chronic kidney failure starts. This article and interviews have shared the
struggles of people on

The Theory Of Evolution Within Tennessee Public Schools
On March 13, 1925 the state of Tennessee passed the Butler Act. This law prohibited teaching the
Theory of Evolution in Tennessee public schools. Any teacher who taught a theory that denied
the story of the Divine Creation would be punished by a fine. The American Civil Liberties
Union offered legal defense to any Tennessee teacher who would break the law and fight it in
court. John Thomas Scopes was a teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, and he intentionally taught his
class about the theory of evolution, which led to his arrest and trial. John Thomas Scopes trial
began on July 10, 1925, and I watched as the trial unfolded. The famous Clarence Darrow
defended Scopes and Williams Jennings Bryan was leading the prosecution. Williams Jennings
Bryan had run as the Democratic presidential candidate three times, and he was the fundamentalist
hero. After a few days of the trial, many spectators and reporters flocked to Dayton. I watched as
the Dayton s streets became more and more crowded and I saw many preachers with revival tents,
who taught how the Theory of Evolution went against the Divine Creation of man. The streets had
become a carnival and everyone knew what was going on in Dayton, Tennessee because of the
revolutionary radio. Right outside of the courthouse, there were two chimpanzees dressed in plaid
suits entertaining the public with their antics around the lawn. Not only where their preachers and
reporters, but people on the streets selling hot dogs, lemonade, bibles, and

Research question: What are the factors behind the variations of language use among adults in
Lebanon?

Bhatia, T. Ritchie W. (June 9, 2008). The Handbook of Bilingualism. John Wiley Sons.
This book offers a full guide to understanding the bilingualism phenomenon. It analyses it from a
cognitive perspective, as well as its different types such as code switching and code mixing. This
book will help me analyze my data on the level of the different types and motivations of
bilingualism.
Clyne, M. Kipp, S. (1999). Pluricentric Languages in an Immigrant Context: Spanish, Arabic and
Chinese. Walter de Gruyter.
This book presents a table of comparison of Language use in the home among children and adults,
Egypt and Lebanon groups, followed by an analysis of the table. This table is very useful because
it shows that, when compared to children in Lebanon, the Lebanese adults have a very big
preference for Arabic. This is an indispensable work for any sociolinguistic paper.

This book illustrates the author s perception of her first encounters with Lebanon; Lebanese
people and Lebanese culture at the age of 12, and it is useful because it provides an insight of an
outsider who is analyzing how Lebanese people talk. She describes how Lebanese people shift to

Mcbride s Characters In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
In the book The Color of Water, the author, James McBride not only takes us through his own
journey, but also gives us a perspective on the life of his mother, Ruth. James admiration for his
mom reflects throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her
character experienced as she went through life. Ruth McBride Jordan endured many heartbreaking
hardships throughout her life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and
zestful moments. She grew to be a remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she
became that woman. Separating from her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest
choices she ever made, yet it was best for her, in order to move on and adjust her future for the
better. A main factor in Ruth s life prosperity was her first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who
taught her many important things and, in a sense, changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the
world. The last large impression that altered her life immensely in a way that led her character to
mature, was the death of her beloved Dennis . These elements all highlight a point in this woman s
life that caused a development in her personality.
In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. In those times,
her father, Fishel, was a heartless man with no sense of appreciation or love for his faithful and
obedient Jewish family. In fact, Fishel was so cruel to his three children that Ruth reports having

Negative Effects Of European Exploration
European exploration has been often remarked in history courses as a wonderful period in
history; leading to the discovery of the Americas and many sellable goods. However, when
looking at the effects on the indigenous peoples of the lands that were pillaged; it wasn t
necessarily as wonderful as once thought. European exploration has led to many positive
discoveries and negative results. Whether it was all good or all bad is up to interpretation of the
reader so, in the spirit of choices here are some positive and negative effects of European
exploration. In 1488, Bartholomeu Dias led the Portuguese exploration efforts by reaching the
Cape of Good Hope. Then in 1498, Vasco da Gama was able to sail all of the way to India via travel
around the Cape of Good Hope and into the Indian Ocean. Due to these voyages Europeans were
able to obtain spices and other goods from this region. By opening up trading routes from Europeto
Asia the diet of the average citizen became richer; helping to extend the life expectancy rate. In
addition to trading opportunities opened up with these countries the Europeans used these journeys
to spread Christianity. Whether this is a positive or negative effect is based on every person s
personal preference. Also, due to these explorations the population of the world appeared... Show

Using basic knowledge of geography Christopher Columbus proposed a voyage to Asian trading
posts by traveling west. The Spanish monarchy decidedly financed this mission in hopes of
expanding Spanish influence in the Asian trading community. Thus, in 1492 Columbus set off on

the Americas. This is considered to be a blessing in disguise for the Spanish because, not only

The Influence Of Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Simply put, love is mysterious. As humans have evolved, it arguably remains one of the least
understood concepts in existence. As Helen Fisher quoted Emily Dickinson, Romantic love is an
obsession, it possesses you. You lose your sense of self. The successful neurologists studied the
effects of the human lovefor years and concluded that love propels individuals to often follow
their heart instead of the less spontaneous route that the mind would suggest. One example of the
influence of love is reflected in the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. It narrates
the tragic love story of two star crossed lovers that, despite the short period of time the couple was
acquainted, engaged in love at first sight. As the plot progressed,... Show more content on

Throughout the presentation regarding the brain s peculiar patterns, Helen Fisher noted that no
matter how much people want to ignore and suppress their complicated feelings, love is needed
for existence. In her studies, she explained that she and her partner scanned specific areas of the
brain to examine chemical levels. In short, her experiment observed categories of people in love,
recently dumped, or remained in love for over 20 years. The participants that had chosen love
were proven to show increased levels of dopamine and other hormones that corresponded to
happiness and elation. Surprisingly, the same location of the brain held activity for the recently
dumped participants, however, they felt extreme desperation. In other words, although they
wanted to forget about their dissatisfaction in a ceased relationship, or erase the significant other
from their memory, they were unable to do so because the brain only longed for them more due
to the absence. Helen Fisher perfectly summarized this feeling by quoting, I remember what you
said to me. I am thinking of your love for me. I am torn by your love for me. This contrast
symbolizes the intensity of love, whether it be present or faded, the brain will stay fixed on the
object of your affection. In addition, many people

Imagery In Gary Soto s Small Town With One Road
The poem, Small Town with One Road, by Gary Soto compares the life of the speaker from
when he was a child to the life he has as an adult. The speaker of the poem is a Mexican who
lives in a poor town where many of the people do manual labor to earn their income. At this point
he is grown and has a daughter, but is in a town that reminds him of his childhood. Here, he
describes the happy children in the neighborhood to the hard life he imagines he would have if he
stayed in such a town in his adulthood. Soto uses imagery to further this comparison; he appeals
to the senses to show the carefreeness of childhood, while also using images of hard work to show
the plight of the adults in the town. Overall, Soto s use of imagery is successful... Show more

This implies that they live in the South, and throughout the poem it describes them living in Mexico
. Next, the children are going to pay for their candy with change and not paper money. While
their candy probably does not cost that much, this still implies that the children are not wealthy
enough to have dollar bills that they can go pay and get change back for. Another example of the
children not being wealthy is, Where there s a dog for each hand, Cats, chickens in the yard .
Something that Soto is trying to point out with his use of imagery is that even though the
children do not have much money, they lives are still very good to them. While to adults, having
lots of animals or living on a farm may allude to poverty, to children it means fun and lots of
animals to play with. On the other hand, the imagery in the next half of the poem that Soto uses
about adults is much more serious and sad than the imagery he has used for the children. A first
example is The cotton gin stands tall in the money dream . This visual imagery is in reference to
to picking cotton, or agriculture in general. Agricultural jobs are common among poor Mexican
workers and are probably one of the only ways that many believe they can really earn money. In
this second half of the poem, the author s use of imagery is mainly featured around jobs and
money. A second example of imagery when the speaker is talking to

It might even mean that an officer assigned in one part of the area will have to be reassigned to
the particular problem area. The victims of crime will have a personal and hated viewpoint
towards crime. The victims are significantly impacted by the crime since it actually happened to
them and they have suffered the most physically, financially, and emotionally. Physical or
monetary loss can either be replaced or forgotten, but the emotional stress and burden place
upon the victim cannot be erased. Victims of crime will suffer in different ways. A victim may
suffer a loss from money or possessions, but a severe pain would be an emotional loss. An
emotional loss can cause you to possibly lose sleep, lose confidence, and lose your outlook on
personal safety too. Victims of crime that have emotional effects might suffer by being scared that
it will happen to them again. They will live in constant fear that they will be violated again done
the road. This will then lead to them not feeling safe and secured in their own home or
neighborhood anymore. The crime that they were victimized by will cause them to worry and
eventually lose sleep over it. The victim of crime is impacted personally and deeper than society as
a whole. Although the crime might have happened within a certain area of a city, the real anguish
falls with the victim. The aspect of criminal activity is viewed much differently from the Law
enforcement standpoint. Law

Organization s Value ChainAnalysis
Value Chain analysis evaluates each step business goes through from inception to finality. The goal
is to maximize the value for the total cost. Costco s mission is to provide their members with
quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices. The company s mission, values and
strategies suggest Costco uses a broad enterprise strategy which fits in the societal framework. To
ensure employee motivation, Costco offers them a unique banquet of benefits. This include; paying
health benefits for them, 50% higher wage, employee retention of over 90 percent, and maintaining
employees even during recession periods (Costco, 2010). The Company s strength is its primary
value chains which split into two distinct functions: Demand fulfilment and Demand generation.
Demand fulfilment includes input logistics, operations, and output logistics. Demand generation
involves sales, marketing, and service department which breaks down into sub tiers. Costco s
support activities include HRM, technology development, firm infrastructure and procurement.
Costco s weaknesses are difficult to pinpoint; one weakness is persistent low operating profit
margins. Bigger profits can occur by not paying employee benefits and with demanding higher
returns from their suppliers. The problem would be at what cost? Costco receives cost advantages
from value adding major (brand items) activities. However, it continues to experience a challenge

Antowne Fisher
Antwone Fisher
10/27/2012
Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist, stated the first stage of human development is one of
the most important. Because an infant is entirely dependent upon his or her caregivers, the quality
of care plays an important role in the shaping of the child s personality. In the case of Antowne
Fisher, with his unfortunate circumstance of the death of his father and the incarceration of his
mother, he lacked the care and love only parents can provide. However, once he entered the foster
care system, Mrs. Nellie Strange, a savior of sort and his foster mother, became the tool in his
development through the first stage of Erickson s stages of development. It is evident within the first

Through the use of inconsistent and inappropriate rewards and punishments, Mizz Pickett
introduces in Antwone s life a lack of hope and nothingness. A vivid event, though quite tame in
comparison to the abuse, is one in which the Pickett foster children go trick or treating. Upon
returning with joy every child has during trick or treating, Mizz Pickett demands of them all the
candy they received placed in the box. Then, wiping her hands together first, Mizz Pickett slams
the lid shut on the metal box and slaps on a Master lock. Now, she says...Here it hits me she ain t
gonna let us have none. I ve give ya some uh dis here candy when you deserve some...and not
until (Fisher, p. 54). It goes without saying; there never came a situation where Mizz Pickett felt
the children deserved any of the candy. For Antwone, occurrences such as this would compromise
his sense of initiative over guilt creating fundamental inadequacy; a mark which would have
detrimental effects later in his life. Antwone Fisher s first two years of care from Mrs. Strange
has manifested itself into a vital landmark in his early years of development. More specifically,
Antwone s development of the brain, physically and cognitively provides the concrete evidence to
support Erikson s stages of development. According to Erikson s model, the stages prior school age

The War of the Worlds, by H.G. Wells
Although it was published seventeen years after my death, the novel War of the Worlds by H.G.
Wells is a work of fiction that I would take great pleasure in reading. It would not be because of
the futuristic tales of creatures from Mars that would make it so enjoyable, but instead the major
themes that present themselves in the novel. It would be quite easy to discover that many of my
ideas manifested themselves in Wells work. He drew many of his inspirations and ideas from our
mutual friend, and his mentor, Thomas Henry Huxley. War of the Worlds helped perpetuate my
work in a literary and fictional fashion, something that I greatly appreciate. I am Charles Darwinand

For instance, the Martians have heat ray guns, something that the humans have not fathomed yet.
The Martians use these guns to their fullest power, and destroy everything around them with a
simple zap. In my theory, it is always the more evolved species that comes out victorious. It would
appear, with their seemingly superior intelligence, that the Martians would be the obvious victors.
They seemed to have everything planned out for their journey to Earth, even the fact that gravity
would have a significant effect on them so they developed the tripod machines. In the novel itself,
the Martians are referred as the higher intellectual beings. In chapter eleven, the narrator began to
compare the things to human machines, to ask [himself] for the first time in [his] life how an
ironclad or a steam engine would seem to an intelligent lower animal, inferring that the humans are
the lower intelligent animals.
So, the Martians win because they have been around longer and they are much smarter, right?
Wrong! This is where Wells truly proves his ability as a writer and storyteller. The somewhat
obvious choice to win is thrown through a loop, thus losing the fight. The Martians end up dying
off because they have been exposed to micro organisms, something they have never encountered
before because they have never appeared on Mars or Martian sanitary science

Honor Killings Research Paper
An honor killing is an epitomized murder committed against a woman for actual or perceived
immoral behavior that is deemed to have breached the honor code of a household or community.
It is the perpetrators belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family name or
societal standard. These so called honor codes are the product of condoning deep seated
patriarchal societal and ethnic injustices, where women are compelled to assume all responsibility
for upholding the morality of an entire culture. It is the most extreme case of gender based
violence. Honor killings are the ultimate sanction against women who are deemed to have offended
the collective morality of a group. Typical behaviors or suspicion of actions... Show more content on

Her family scolded her and said that her life was her husband, and nothing more. Gul wanted to

Gul decided to run away from her husband in Pakistan and left for Afghanistan. Gul hoped and

However, Gul had nowhere to go, no one to care for her. The government wanted nothing to do

Atlanta Mascots Case Study
Prior to the organization s move to Washington in 1937 they were formerly known as the Boston

A flat plate solar collector has a dynamic behaviour in response to variations in the intensity of

Improvements to the original frequency weighted balanced truncation by Enns have been described
in cite{Ghafoor2007PFE,SreeramSahlan2012,SreeramSahlanMudaPFE2013}. Schelfhout and
Moor pointed out that many specifications and robustness requirements yield natural frequency
domain weighting functions but in other cases time domain weighting functions are more
appropriate which led to the introduction of time weighted controllability and observability
gramians for the balanced truncation algorithm cite{SchelfhoutMoor1995}. Sreeram had defined
the frequency response error bounds for time weighted balanced truncation
cite{TimeWeightedSreeram2002}. More recently Shaker and Tahavori had introduced time
weighted balanced stochastic truncation cite{TahavoriShaker2012,TahavoriShaker2011}. Cross
gramians matrices contain information regarding both controllability and observability of a system
in a single matrics cite{FernandoNicholson1983,FernandoNicholson1984}. Instead of computing
two separate gramians for controllability and observability, states which are the least controllable
and observable can be identified from a single cross gramian matrics and these states can be
truncated. Model reduction using cross gramians does not involve balancing which is an advantage
since balancing may be ill conditioned for systems with almost uncontrollable and unobservable
states cite{Aldhaheri2006}.

The black signifies yes, and the white no. (Coelho 12). These two rocks are to help Santiago

The Alchemist, they are there to offer guidance whenever he may need them. Santiago first
acquired these rocks from Melchizedek, the King of Salem and the way Santiago received the

If his master is happy, so is Conseil. Ironic to his name, in French conseil actually means counsel,
which means to advise. Most of us who read the book knows that Conseil is basically there to
serve Aronnax, his master, not to advise him. Also if you were wondering, Conseil is a person,
not a dog. Sometimes, Conseils personality is hunours, like when he tries to eat a fish that
supposed stings him out of revenge, even though it tastes horrible But other times, they reveal a
passion that you would not expect to find in a man who sometimes acted like a robot. For
example, his reaction to the cannibal attack on a island that they were temporily stranded on with
the Nautilus due to low tide. While he did compare the savages to monkeys, he also makes some
surprisingly intelligent statements, such as when Aronnax states that savages are bad because they
are cannible and Conseil replied:
One can be a cannibal and a good man, just as one can be a glutton and honest. The one does not
exclude the other. 1
This quote shows that Conseil is very intelligent and is able to see outside the box .
Now of course we can t forget about the Great Captain Nemo, who by far is my most favourite

to take adequate steps to protect their client s data and financial information. This includes
protecting the data again hackers by developing and maintaining.
Thankfully, there are a number of ways to do this, including: encrypting data, securing websites,
securing IT systems and wireless networks, and providing adequate training to all employees
regarding the safe transmission, handling, and disposal of information (Steve Pain, 2007). The
improper disposal of information and the breach of confidentiality have been in the news on a
regular basis. This has ranged from employees improperly throwing out customer files, to laptops
being stolen, to hard drives not being properly wiped or erased. More often than not, it is reported
that these items contained customer social security numbers and financial records.
According to the British Security Industry Association, companies should be learning lessons about
the importance of protecting confidential information. (Steve Pain, 2007, para. 7). In fact,
compliance with the Data Protection Act is imperative and non compliance could result in
prosecution by the Office of Information Commissioner. The best way to ensure that data is being

The Roman engineers were the first in history to discover that proper management of men and
resources could greatly decrease the time it takes to complete a construction project. The
management structure the Romans employed on their many public construction projects was very
simple, but very effective in communicating information through the appropriate channels.
Coupling this management structure with previous experience, the Romans were able to increase
the efficiency of their endless labour force. Given that no scriptures on the topic of project
managementhave been discovered, it is hard to know whether the Romans knew exactly what they
had achieved. However, even though they are more complex, the processes used today can be quite

The next level of men consisted of contractors and foreman that supervised small crews of men.
The foremen had to have a very good understanding of what they were being asked to do and how
to organize their crews to work as efficiently and fast as possible. Foremen were also required to
physically demonstrate to the men being supervised what they were expected to do and probably
administered discipline to men for poor work. Another branch of men , not directly related to
physical work, lead to the engineers. This branch contained the levellers and surveyors. They
worked under the engineer and maintained communication with the contractor but they did not
really fit between either. These men were educated in a variety of subjects but especially math. The
surveyors used simple tools to perform very important elevation calculations and with the engineers
they plotted the paths of the aqueducts. They communicated with the contractor(s) to explain the
path and the slope that the labours were being asked to construct.
The most important people in the construction team were the engineers. Everything that happened
on the project fell to them to deal with. For this reason Vitruvius gives many examples of things that
engineers needed to know and should have studied, including math and some unusual topics such as
philosophy and music (Vitruvius: On Architecture, 2006). The engineers

The Grand Budapest Hotel, By Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson has done it again with his new film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. True to the style of
Anderson movies, The Grand Budapest Hotel is filled with gorgeous color schemes, witty lines,
impeccable scoring, and perfectly symmetrical frames. We even get glimpses of the usual crew that
act in the Anderson franchise, including Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, and Bill Murray. Shot in a
1930 s style movie frame, the story starts out on a snowy white scene in a small European town.
A girl walks to a memorial of a man, sits down by his statue and opens up a book. A voice over
then begins, as well as the main story, which is composed in a flashback recounted by an author
(Tom Wilkinson). The flashback depicts the author traveling to The Grand Budapest Hotelin hopes
of curing his writer s block. There, in the slow crumbling of the hotel, he meets M. Moustafa, the
proprietor of the Grand Budapest. The rest is history, literally. The main part of the movie takes
place in a war ravaged Zabrowka, with communists in control and the Grand Budapest Hotel
struggling to keep its usual amount of affluent customers. We are introduced to the conciergeand
manager of the hotel, M. Gustave, a delightfully flawed character who is charming and lovable yet

Hence no U.S. Gulf policy will satisfy everyone in every respect. That makes it all the more
essential that any adjustment in U.S. policy toward Iraq and Iran be preceded by extensive
consultations with friendly Gulf leaders. Inadequate dialogue and unilateral action have caused
some insecurity in the region and weakened trust in U.S. steadfastness.
When the British withdrew from the Persian Gulf in 1971, the United States became the principal
foreign power in the region. For almost three decades it has pursued the goal of preserving regional
stability, using a variety of means to that end, particularly regarding the northern Gulf powers of
Iraq and Iran.
At first the United States relied on Iran as its chief regional proxy, supporting the shah s regime
in the hope that it would be a source of stability. This policy collapsed in 1979 with the Iranian
Revolution, when Iran switched from staunch ally to implacable foe. During the 1980s, the United
States strove to maintain a de facto balance of power between Iraq and Iran so that neither would
be able to achieve a regional hegemony that might threaten American interests. The United States
provided some help to Iraq during the Iran Iraq War of 1980 88, moved in other ways to counter
the spread of Iranian backed Islamic militancy, and provided with Israeli encouragement some help

picking his wife s second husband for when he dies and buying cemetery plots for the three of

he progressively seems to get worse with each passing day. It is clear that the sympathy he
received encouraged his complaints and led to the self induced illusion that his body was slowly
dying. In the end, they both find out in different ways that George s chest pain had been due to
indigestion and the confusion is cleared up. The entire situation showed George that he was

The Human Gene Therapy
Gene therapy is a technique that uses new genes to treat or prevent disease by replacing or adding
new effective genes. This technique is aimed to allow doctors to treat genetic disorders without the
prescribing drugs or scheduling surgery to correct the disorder. Gene therapy isn t a fully effective
method as of today. It is still undergoing tests. Several of the most common tests include
introducing a new geneinto the body to fight against a disease or disorder, replacing a mutated
gene with a healthy gene, and removing a mutated gene in the body that is not functioning as it
should be. Gene therapy is seen to be a fair treatment to diseases or disorders that have no other
form of cure. It is sometimes used for inherited disorders, certain viral infections, and certain
cancers. But Gene Therapy is not a certain option for treatment as of today. It is still under study
as success rates are low. Genetic disorders affect one out ten people. Symptoms vary with each
disease or disorder as some can appear early in a person s life, while others appear at an older age.
Genetic disorders cannot be prevented as they are passed on through a family s genes and is within
the DNAunlike a regular disease is caused by bacteria or a virus. There are two possible ways a
genetic disordercan be passed on to the offspring, or child. One way is caused by dominant genes in

new design may in the billions of dollars, if one includes the cost of building the manufacturing
facility, and the research and development costs. However, the more chips that are produced of a
given design, the lower the average cost.
Another reason for the significantly drop in price can be the adoption of the demand driven or built

A Report On The Concrete, Fly Ash, Sodium Silicate
KEY WORDS
Geopolymer concrete, Fly ash, Sodium Silicate, Sodium Hydroxide, curing.
INTRODUCTION
In 1978, Davidovits suggested that a binder could be generated by a polymerization process
including a response between soluble fluids and mixes containing aluminium and silicon. The
folios made were termed as geo polymers . Not at all like normal Portland/ pozzolanic
bonds, geopolymers don t frame calcium silicate hydrates (CSHs) for matrix formative and strength
, yet silica and alumina responding with an alkaline solution and creates an alumina silicate gel that
ties the aggregates and gives the strength of concrete ,source materials and antacid fluids/alkaline
fluids are the tow primary constituents of geo polymers, the strengths of which rely on the nature of
the materials and the sorts of fluids.
Materials containing silicon (Si) and aluminum (Al) in indistinct structure, which originate from
characteristic materials or by item materials, could be utilized as source materials for
geopolymers. kaolinite, clay, etc., are incorporated into the common materials bunch though fly
cinder, silica smoke, granulated ground blast slag, rice husk fiery debris, red mud etc., are by
products obtained from various sources. For the production of geo polymers, the decision of source
materials depends majorly on their accessibility and expense, the sort of utilization and the
particular interest of the clients. Fly powder based geo polymers cements give phenomenal building
properties that

Self-Destruction In Macbeth
Mesha Singh
December 9th 2016 Macbeth s Self Destruction *BA BOOM !!
Period 1 Morals , Self control ,emotion: like these make us humane. Morality is essential to
humanity. Self control allows us to resist the greed and power. Emotion makes us feel , feelings are
humane and without them these things would mean nothing, without these things humanity drifts
away from the soul. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth loses his self control, and he makes rash and
quick decisions, like killing his own best friend. Making quick and rash decisions, blinded by greed
and power, leads to one s own self destruction . Power is super important; without power we would
be defenseless and fall prey to the superior. Self control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Morals are the base of our own beliefs and personality . In the play Macbeth it is expressed that
One cried, God bless us! and Amen, the other,/ As they had seen me with these hangman s hands.
/List ning their fear, I could not say Amen, / When they did say God bless us . Methought, I
heard a voice cry, Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep . (2.237 47) . This is so important
he is filled to the top proximity of shame and guilt he can t even say the word Amen fearing god
will punish him for saying such thing out of a disgusting human being. He is torn between on
sleeping and not being able to talk to god to let out all frustrations , he can t talk to his wife
because he fears of his manhood being taunted . He knows he has done something extremely bad
showcasing his morals . The next quote how in Act 4 towards the end of the book how he as
absolutely no care in the world except money I grant him bloody Luxurious, avaricious, false,
deceitful, Sudden, malicious, smacking of every sin That has a name. (4.3.70 73). The part
when Macduff realizes how cruel and greedy macbeth is . For someone to say that it is horrible
to show how you showcase your humane behavior . This is a prime example how he was blinded
and lost everything he doesn t care . What this play really teaches is that being blinded by power is
a mistake most

Comparing Picasso s Guernic The Labyrinth Of Narrative And
Many reviews and analysis reference psychoanalytic theory as a base to establish definitive
meaning of why certain things occur and how they function. Ruthe Stein of San Francisco Gate
makes brief yet notable comparisons of Del Toro s film to Picasso s Guernica. Picasso s famous
painting named after the city of Guernicathat was destroyed in 1937 by Francisco Franco, was a
sacred town of the Basques . (Russell 1). Frank Russell s notes in his book Picasso s Guernica:
The Labyrinth of Narrative and Vision , how the Basques lived in the mountains and they were
adept at guerilla tactics (1). Similar, to the rebellions in Del Toro s Labyrinth that lived within the
mountains and forest. Notably, the initial credits of the filmstated that the

Myth Of Roman Mythology
In many cultures there are flood myths that normally pertain to angered Gods who release their
anger by flooding the world to cleanse whatever caused the anger in the first place. In the Roman
culture, one of the flood myths mentioned states that Jupiter had been angered by the evil that came
with humanity and had wanted to burn the Earth. However, Jupiter had feared by doing so Heaven
would be set ablaze as well and thus, with Neptune s help, flooded the Earth. The hero Deucalion
and his wife Pyrrha had been the only two to survive. Jupiter had recognized their religious lifestyle
had let them live and retracted the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha had then repopulated the world by
throwing stones behind them. In the Murato culture, there is a myth in which a man had been
fishing in a lagoon of the Pastaza river, a crocodile had swallowed the fisherman s bait and the
man killed the crocodile. The mother of crocodiles had been angered by this and had slashed the
water with her tail creating a flood in the area and drowning everybody except for one man who
had climbed up a palm tree. After the flood had subsided the man climbed down from the tree, cut
off a piece of his flesh, planted it in the soil, and had grown a woman. He had then married the
woman and begun to repopulate the world. The two flood myths mentioned above have a few
similarities. The first is that the floods had come from the anger of powerful beings. The first story
mentions that the God Jupiter had been angry

  • 5. Reflection Of Success In College One of the question on the board I d like to respond to that was very early in the semester is what does success look like. My original response to this was, There multiple ways to answer this. Success is being happy, but smiling is a look associated with happiness, but depressed people can smile and laugh too. So to answer what successactually looks like is someone who show s continuous genuine happiness. The best way to achieve that status is to have your stress levels at a minimum. After being in college for the rest of the semester I think for the most part my answer stays the same. I still believe success is when you are truly happy in the world you live in, but I can explain this a lot better. Success is when you don t have to worry about things in life anymore. When you don t have to work to get yourself out of bed in the morning and knowing what you have to face for the rest of the day. Success is when you can say to yourself, i m glad that the things that I did in my past lead me to this point I am at now. To the new me that s what success looks like. It s not an easy thingto obtain but everyone can obtain it as long as the keep an optimistic view on life and remember to just keep moving forward. Another question I liked from the board that I jotted down was what works? My initial response to this was this. Friends partying helps a lot. In the concept map, they had two categories, the first one that helps a person move into a healthy transition is the facilitator factors in transition to dialysis, which include personal factors and social factors. The second category leads to an unhealthy transition and these are the inhibitor factors. The factors would include personal factors, social factors, and economic problems that arise. Another part of the conceptual map shows a turning circle that is a constant battle that people must fight to keep moving towards a healthy transition into dialysis. Another way the researchers analyzed the data from this study, was by reporting what the people said about their transition into dialysis. For many of these people, it was a terrible experience. People also shared how hard this life change was on them and their families. While others shared how they got through the transition positively, and how other dialysis patients can do the same. In the interviews, they discussed physical changes, mental changes, and social changes that all took place during this transition into dialysis. In conclusion, the authors see that now they have more ways to help someone new coming into hemodialysis after chronic kidney failure starts. • 10. The Theory Of Evolution Within Tennessee Public Schools On March 13, 1925 the state of Tennessee passed the Butler Act. This law prohibited teaching the Theory of Evolution in Tennessee public schools. Any teacher who taught a theory that denied the story of the Divine Creation would be punished by a fine. The American Civil Liberties Union offered legal defense to any Tennessee teacher who would break the law and fight it in court. John Thomas Scopes was a teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, and he intentionally taught his class about the theory of evolution, which led to his arrest and trial. John Thomas Scopes trial began on July 10, 1925, and I watched as the trial unfolded. The famous Clarence Darrow defended Scopes and Williams Jennings Bryan was leading the prosecution. Williams Jennings Bryan had run as the Democratic presidential candidate three times, and he was the fundamentalist hero. After a few days of the trial, many spectators and reporters flocked to Dayton. I watched as the Dayton s streets became more and more crowded and I saw many preachers with revival tents, who taught how the Theory of Evolution went against the Divine Creation of man. The streets had become a carnival and everyone knew what was going on in Dayton, Tennessee because of the revolutionary radio. Right outside of the courthouse, there were two chimpanzees dressed in plaid suits entertaining the public with their antics around the lawn. • 12. Mcbride s Characters In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride In the book The Color of Water, the author, James McBride not only takes us through his own journey, but also gives us a perspective on the life of his mother, Ruth. James admiration for his mom reflects throughout the story while showing the readers the growth and development her character experienced as she went through life. Ruth McBride Jordan endured many heartbreaking hardships throughout her life, but nevertheless, had an innumerable amount of cheerful and zestful moments. She grew to be a remarkable woman; however, it was a long journey before she became that woman. Separating from her family, and leaving the South was one of the hardest choices she ever made, yet it was best for her, in order to move on and adjust her future for the better. A main factor in Ruth s life prosperity was her first husband, Andrew Dennis McBride, who taught her many important things and, in a sense, changed her entire lifestyle and outlook on the world. The last large impression that altered her life immensely in a way that led her character to mature, was the death of her beloved Dennis . These elements all highlight a point in this woman s life that caused a development in her personality. In her younger years, being a part of the Shilsky family was no easy task for Ruth. In those times, her father, Fishel, was a heartless man with no sense of appreciation or love for his faithful and obedient Jewish family. • 14. The Influence Of Love In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Simply put, love is mysterious. As humans have evolved, it arguably remains one of the least understood concepts in existence. As Helen Fisher quoted Emily Dickinson, Romantic love is an obsession, it possesses you. You lose your sense of self. The successful neurologists studied the effects of the human lovefor years and concluded that love propels individuals to often follow their heart instead of the less spontaneous route that the mind would suggest. One example of the influence of love is reflected in the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. It narrates the tragic love story of two star crossed lovers that, despite the short period of time the couple was acquainted, engaged in love at first sight. As the plot progressed,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the presentation regarding the brain s peculiar patterns, Helen Fisher noted that no matter how much people want to ignore and suppress their complicated feelings, love is needed for existence. In her studies, she explained that she and her partner scanned specific areas of the brain to examine chemical levels. In short, her experiment observed categories of people in love, recently dumped, or remained in love for over 20 years. The participants that had chosen love were proven to show increased levels of dopamine and other hormones that corresponded to happiness and elation. Surprisingly, the same location of the brain held activity for the recently dumped participants, however, they felt extreme desperation. In other words, although they wanted to forget about their dissatisfaction in a ceased relationship, or erase the significant other from their memory, they were unable to do so because the brain only longed for them more due to the absence. Helen Fisher perfectly summarized this feeling by quoting, I remember what you said to me. I am thinking of your love for me. I am torn by your love for me. This contrast symbolizes the intensity of love, whether it be present or faded, the brain will stay fixed on the object of your affection. In addition, many people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The speaker of the poem is a Mexican who lives in a poor town where many of the people do manual labor to earn their income. At this point he is grown and has a daughter, but is in a town that reminds him of his childhood. Here, he describes the happy children in the neighborhood to the hard life he imagines he would have if he stayed in such a town in his adulthood. Next, the children are going to pay for their candy with change and not paper money. While their candy probably does not cost that much, this still implies that the children are not wealthy enough to have dollar bills that they can go pay and get change back for. Another example of the children not being wealthy is, Where there s a dog for each hand, Cats, chickens in the yard . Something that Soto is trying to point out with his use of imagery is that even though the children do not have much money, they lives are still very good to them. While to adults, having lots of animals or living on a farm may allude to poverty, to children it means fun and lots of animals to play with. On the other hand, the imagery in the next half of the poem that Soto uses about adults is much more serious and sad than the imagery he has used for the children. A first example is The cotton gin stands tall in the money dream . This visual imagery is in reference to to picking cotton, or agriculture in general. Agricultural jobs are common among poor Mexican workers and are probably one of the only ways that many believe they can really earn money. In the case of Antowne Fisher, with his unfortunate circumstance of the death of his father and the incarceration of his mother, he lacked the care and love only parents can provide. Upon returning with joy every child has during trick or treating, Mizz Pickett demands of them all the candy they received placed in the box. Then, wiping her hands together first, Mizz Pickett slams the lid shut on the metal box and slaps on a Master lock. Now, she says...Here it hits me she ain t gonna let us have none. The Martians use these guns to their fullest power, and destroy everything around them with a simple zap. In my theory, it is always the more evolved species that comes out victorious. It would appear, with their seemingly superior intelligence, that the Martians would be the obvious victors. They seemed to have everything planned out for their journey to Earth, even the fact that gravity would have a significant effect on them so they developed the tripod machines. In the novel itself, the Martians are referred as the higher intellectual beings. In chapter eleven, the narrator began to compare the things to human machines, to ask [himself] for the first time in [his] life how an ironclad or a steam engine would seem to an intelligent lower animal, inferring that the humans are the lower intelligent animals. So, the Martians win because they have been around longer and they are much smarter, right? Wrong! This is where Wells truly proves his ability as a writer and storyteller. The somewhat obvious choice to win is thrown through a loop, thus losing the fight. It is the perpetrators belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family name or societal standard. These so called honor codes are the product of condoning deep seated patriarchal societal and ethnic injustices, where women are compelled to assume all responsibility for upholding the morality of an entire culture. Instead of computing two separate gramians for controllability and observability, states which are the least controllable and observable can be identified from a single cross gramian matrics and these states can be truncated. Another branch of men , not directly related to physical work, lead to the engineers. This branch contained the levellers and surveyors. They worked under the engineer and maintained communication with the contractor but they did not really fit between either. These men were educated in a variety of subjects but especially math.
