A Political Ideology Of Corruption In The United States
Those that would not be considered novices in the world of politics or government could argue
that corruption is antidemocratic albeit corruption is not a political ideology per say it does share
one or two fundamental characteristics with a ideology that is trans disposed to democracy and
that is the accumulation or adsorption of power and wealth by any means that does not incite arrest
or incarceration from committing these acts, and secondly the acts committed for, or by means of
corruption is in conflict with governing laws that all citizens must adhere by, this can also be in
contrast to ethics and morality to most people. White Collar crimeis most prevalent in first world
industrialized nations such as those found in western Europe,

Similarities Between Jing Mei Woo And Waverly Jong
In these stories there are people that have different cultures. Two of them come from very similar
cultures, and the other comes from a totally different culture. Jing Mei Woo and Waverly Jong
have similar cultures, while Billy and Mike have a different culture. Woo and Jong both of their
mother are pushing them to be a child prodigy. Billy and Mike both had a choice if they wanted to
play football or not.
Jing Mei Woo s cultureis different from her mother s culture because the way her mother was
raised is different from the modernized American way that Jing Mei Woo was raised. Jing Mei
Woo was pressured to become something special in her life that would bring honor to her family.
Her mother wanted to show her off like a trophy because that shows that their kids are talented and
that they are not like lazy americans . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waverly Jong and Jing Mei Woo s mothers want them to become child prodigies. Waverly Jong

their mothers have the same point of view. They want their daughters to do better than them. The
problem was that the girls didn t want to do anything. They wanted to live like the everyday
American child.
Billy and Mike both wanted to play football because that s in their culture. Their dad wanted
them to play football. After their dad died, they really wanted to play football and let their father
be proud of them. They wanted to play football also because they wanted to wear the panthers
colors of black and white. They wanted to play in front of 20,000 people

Samuel Slater s Views Of The Industrial Revolution
The North and the South stood as two distinct regions during the antebellum period in America. The
North and the South were rapidly diverging in all aspects: cultural, economic, and technological.
The Northern industrial sector was modernizing the North, and the economy was starting to become
more dependent upon manufacturing. Culturally, the Women s Rights movement was advancing as
more and more women fought against the Cult of Domesticity. Women entered the man s sphere
and began to work in factories. In the South cotton became the cash crop and slavery was an
integral part of their economy and culture. The views propounded by Southern elites of their home
region and its way of life did not resemble those held by Northern observers of the... Show more

The South considered agriculture, especially the production of cotton, to be the crux of their
economy. The South was producing half of the world s cotton. Sprawling estates and plantations
with hundreds of slaves running them dotted the southern region. Eli Whitney s cotton gin made
cotton production easier, faster, and it revived the industry once again. Soon, tons of cotton was
being traded in foreign countries and in the North. Cotton was a fast cash business, but it ruined
the soil, leaving the plantation owners to constantly be looking for new land. In little to no time,
the South had become a one crop economy with everything becoming dependent on cotton sales,
which were dependent on other factors such as demand for cotton goods. One of the most
lucrative, horrifying, and large businesses was the slave trade. Many Southern whites considered
slavery a necessity for their economy. The South was able to produce these enormous amounts of
cotton because of the manual labor provided by slaves. In the beginning, during the era of George
Washington and Thomas Jefferson, slavery was considered a necessary evil. However, views of
slavery were rapidly changing and by the Jacksonian era, many Southerners saw no other option
than slavery. William Harper, a jurist in South Carolina, ventured to say, The cultivation... of great
staple crops cannot be

Deli Turkey Case Study
Experiment 2 focused primarily on different forms of deli turkey due to the results of high
microbial count on the deli turkey sampled in experiment 1. 4 different samples of deli turkey
were obtained: first, the same deli turkey sampled in experiment 1 which was considered non
natural sliced turkey from Hannaford, sliced organic deli turkey with no preservatives from
Hannaford, non natural prepackaged turkey from a Lunchables and organic prepackaged turkey
with no preservatives from Waterhill. The hypothesis for experiment 2 was that the samples that
came in contact with the meat slicer or not prepackaged meat was going to yield the most microbes

disprove this hypothesis, each sample was put through the dilution process explained in the

My Experience Of Attending Public School Education
I grew up in a diverse spectrum of economic affluence. Attending public school exposed me to a
wide range of economic lifestyles within my community. However, it wasn t until I was older that I
began to notice this. Due to my public school education, the friends that I had growing up came
from various backgrounds. My experience growing up with, learning with, and forming friendships
with people who have come from low income families and communities has given me the skills to
effectively teach low income communities. In high school, I was part of several organizations that
revolved around community service. Volunteering for organizations that benefit low income
communities and individuals has exposed me to the horrific conditions of poverty

The Effects Of Viral Encephalitis On The Disease
The disease I have chosen to explore is viral encephalitis. Encephalitis refers to brain inflammation
(PDR, 2014, Diagnosis), which is rare but can be extremely dangerous (Mayo, 2014, Basics;
University of Maryland, 2013, Introduction). Severe cases of encephalitis can lead to permanent
damage and death (Mayo, 2014, Complications). Encephalitiscan also be caused by bacteria and
fungi, or develop as a result of a non infectious cause, but encephalitis is usually caused by a virus
(Mayo, 2014, Causes; PDR, 2014, Basics).Symptoms of encephalitis usually begin between 2 and
14 days from the time of infection (University of Maryland, 2013, Symptoms), though it can be
months before symptoms begin, such as is sometimes the case with the... Show more content on

Encephalitis infections typically last between 1 and 3 weeks (PDR, Treatment). However,
depending on severity of the infection and the virus that caused it, recovery can last months and
some level of impairment may be permanent, such as paralysis or exhaustion (Mayo, 2014,
Complications; PDR, 2014, Treatment). It is also possible for those who have had viral
encephalitis to experience seizures later in life, particularly those who had seizures during the
initial infection (Gondim, 2013, Prognosis). Certain types of viral encephalitis will cause death up
to 70 percent of the time, if not treated early (Gondim, 2013, Prognosis; PDR, 2014, Treatment).
Viral encephalitis can either be a primary infection, with the virus directly affecting the brain
(Mayo, 2014, Causes; PDR, 2014, Diagnosis), or a secondary infection, caused by the immune
system attacking the brain as well as the originally affected tissues (Mayo, 2014, Causes).
Secondary viral encephalitis usually takes place a couple of weeks after the original infection
(Mayo, 2014, Causes). The viruses that cause encephalitis can be spread in a number of ways,
depending on the particular virus. The most common ways are insect bites and person to person
contact (University of Maryland, 2013, Causes). In the case of insect bites, the insect originally got
the virus as a result of biting an infected animal, which then multiplied in the insect

Income Inequality In The United States
What is Income Inequality? Well Income Inequality is the unequal distribution of family or
individual wage over the different individuals in an economy. Income inequality is often showen up
as the percentage of income to a percentage of population (Staff.) Income inequality creates and

provide Medicaid as well as making sure that people can afford health coverage, making sure
people/ young teens with children can afford and access a child care, helping low income
individuals better their education and provide fully fund Pell Grants (10 Solutions to Fight

And to grasp how our systems work, I needed to have a deeper understanding of what they are

body started in fourth grade when I first learned about anatomy and the body systems. Until this
day, I haven t forgotten the names of the bones in the skeletal system. When I volunteered to

Freire s Theory Of The Oppressed And The Oppressor...
As society continues to evolve people maintain their quest to accept full humanity, in this process
individuals question not only who their authentic self is, but what is keeping them from accepting
that version of themselves. A question which Freire addresses in his Pedagogy of the Oppressed as
he emphasizes how liberation transcends time, and atmosphere. Instead he chooses to illustrate a
process which is embodied by acceptance of the oppressor, activism, fellowship, solidarity, and
reflection, it is these components that create the means for a successful path to liberation, while
simultaneously allowing for the identification of personal and societal growth (Paulo Freire,
Pedagogy of the Oppressed). Brooks, Collins, and Kidd s novels... Show more content on

jacker venom, so carefully created to target the place fear lives in your brain, in using self
reflection and education Katniss is able to identify this form of oppression and use that
knowledge to not let it break her, but to combat it (Collins 195). Finally in Brooks Year Of
Wonders Anna continues to learn about nature of religion as the novel progresses. As she
realizes how it has been unsuccessful in ending the Plague she beings to reflect on the role of
religion in her life stating His wife had been hacked down in front of him. My olive shoots had

religion is indeed her oppressor which prompts her to take action and leave her pious life in an

only condone Freire s ideas but emphasize how in society is in incredulously important that people
take the time to continue their quest for knowledge and use self reflection as a tool to understand
what is holding one back from accepting full humanity. Freire s ideas continue to be reflected in the
plights of the main characters as he examines the value of solidarity and fellowship in combatting
oppression. He also puts emphasis on the fact that one cannot be

The French Revolution And The French And American Revolution
The French and American Revolution do have some similarities although, ultimately, the two wars
are completely different. One of the main differences is that the American Revolution was sparked
by the American people who were unhappy with the way the British were controlling them. As a
result, the Americans were looking for independence. The French Revolution, on the other hand, was
centered on putting an end to the monarchy and implementing a new style of government while
also changing the social structure which favored the hereditary elites. Another difference is in
relation to how the revolutions were fought. The Americans elected representatives who assumed
powers of government and created their own currency which effectively cut off payments to Britain
while the US organized an official army (495). The American Revolutioninitially put together two
military powers which fought throughout the thirteen colonies. Although the British won most of
the battles, the Americans would be able to form a competent military, with civilian support
networks, that provided supplies and financial support (495). Although this was not quite enough, it
took until the French intervened, as allies to the Americans, the British finally surrendered granting
independence to these colonies.
The French Revolution was, for the most part, all internal. It started when the Third Estate declared
itself The National Assembly, this move made the king realized that the people planned for him to

Figurative Language In Alice In Wonderland
An author frequently exemplifies different messages and conflict within a story or novel. More
often or not, an author portrays certain types of literary devices to convey a message between
the setting and characters. In Lewis Carroll s novel, Alice in Wonderland, Alice s curiosity and
innocence as a child in the Victorian Era leads to her exploring another world called Wonderland.
She is challenged to find the true meaning of exploring outside of an ordinary world which leads
her to question her own identity. The depths of wonderland and many influences Alice stumbles
across changes the dynamics of her inner self from a child to an adult. The white rabbit resembles

Carroll uses the food and drinks as a way of representing Alice s curious appetite for growing up
in her societal role. As she wanders around Wonderland, her curiosity often leads to her eating or
drinking an object in order to satisfy her curiosity. When she drinks the Drink Me substance she
says, Curiouser and curiouser! Cried Alice she was so much surprised, that for the moment she
quite forgot how to speak good English (Carroll 6). Many times throughout the novel, Alice
adventures revolve around food and drinks such as sweet baked snacks, potions and tea to appease
her curiosity. Alice begins to lose control of her eating and drinking habits of Wonderland which
demonstrates her maturity as she looks towards adulthood in the reality world. The more food and
drinks Alice applies to herself, Carroll establishes the metaphor of growing up results in
unpredictable events and changes that are irreversible. Alice stumbles across the Cheshire Cat who
portrays the opposite of growing up as he believes taking short cuts are better than asking for
advice. The Chesire cat exclaims to Alice, Then it doesn t matter which way you go (Carroll 49).
The metaphor from the Cheshire Cat resulted from Alice asking about visiting the Mad Hatter. In
this case, The Cheshire Cat is a representation of taking the easy route and not visiting the mad

Soccer Criticism
Criticism
We were in Irvine that day for a soccer tournament. I played defense at the time and enjoyed
playing there. Even though I didn t score a lot of goals, it was still fun to play.
When I got to my team, I set my bag down and did the stretches our coach, Wendi, wanted us to
do. I was last in line. No one talked to me. They all had their own cliques. I found that extremely
stupid due to the fact that...well hello?! We re a team and teams are supposed to talk to each
other, not make their own cliques. I just needed them to talk to me when we played. The only
person I sort of talked to was my coach. Yet, I didn t talk to her all the time. I was shy.
I liked Wendi. She was my first female coach in soccer and did a great job of coaching. She never

Exoplanets Research Paper

Exoplanets
An exoplanet can be defined as a planet that orbits a star outside the solar system. One of the
many exoplanets that could possibly be habitable in the near future are far away. For example,
Kepler 186 is around 500 light years aways to put that in perspective that is around
5,878,625,373,183.607731 Miles away. That is why we know so little about these planets that
could support life on them.
Starting off, what is some of the criteria that is needed to live on a planet. The University of Utah
put it best when they described what is needed. One of the most basic needs to live on a different
planet is they need to be a comfortable distance away from their star that is ... Show more content
on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, the most common way to find new planets is Radial Velocity. The Radial Velocity
method relies on the fact that a star does not remain completely stationary when it is orbited by a
planet. It moves, ever so slightly, in a small circle or ellipse, responding to the gravitational tug of
its smaller companion. When viewed from a distance, these slight movements affect the star s
normal light spectrum, or color signature. If the star is moving towards the observer, then its
spectrum would appear slightly shifted towards the blue; if it is moving away, it will be shifted
towards the red. Secondly, Transit Photometry is the second most common method. This method
detects distant planets by measuring the minute dimming of a star as an orbiting planet passes
between it and the Earth. The passage of a planet between a star and the Earth is called a transit. If
such a dimming is detected at regular intervals and lasts a fixed length of time, then it is very
probable that a planet is orbiting the star and passing in front of it once every orbital period.
Lastly, the method of Microlensing is Microlensing is the only known method capable of
discovering planets at truly great distances from the Earth. Whereas radial velocity searches look
for planets in our immediate galactic neighborhood, up to 100 light years from Earth, and transit
photometry can potentially detect planets at a distance of hundreds of light years, microlensing can
find planets orbiting stars near the center of the galaxy, thousands of light years away ( How to
Search for Exoplanet.). These methods are detrimental to the discovery of new planets from far

fundamental thing for economic growth.
We have been seeing a thrust on construction activities, which started feeling the revival after

The weight loss happens due to carbon combustion and moisture evaporation and this is called
loss on ignition (LOI) . This is expressed as a percentage. The lower the LOI, the better will be the
fly ash. As per BIS, it should not be more than 5%.
Advantages of Fly Ash
It reduces dead load on structures due to its light weight.
Due to high strength, practically no breakages during transportation.
These bricks do not require soaking in water for 24 hours. Just sprinkling of water before use is
enough. [4]
Points in favour of Fly Ash Bricks Usage
Fly Ash Bricks are environment friendly.
They have higher compression strength compared to the conventional Clay Bricks.
Though presently it is marginally costlier, with the passage of time, cost will come down.
Fly Ash Bricks have lesser decay rate compared to the clay bricks.
Clay Bricks are made by top soil erosion, which is considered as a threat to environment safety.
Also, Clay has all nutrients for good agriculture and non use of clay means a support to good
agriculture.
It is a known fact that clay brick is not nature friendly. [5]

Biology and Connecting With Nature
Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was made personal, merely personal

The fundamental problem, as David Wann writes in his book Bio Logic, is that our brains and
technologies are still evolving. Although we are part of nature, humans have decided to go their
own way, separated from the realities learned in Biology. Recently both the physics and
chemistry industry formed an alliance and over looked the still evolving field of biology. The
result of the coalition was runaway chemicals, disappearing species, and an afflicted Human
population. It is discouraging to see the violence and the hatred that is growing in the industrial
society. The destruction of the forests, wildlife, and oceans, results in using the remains of the
land for a variety of ends that are not at all related to the spirit of those places. The spirit of Nature
that one grows around. Our lives, along with the lives of the global community, are at risk. We are
wounding the earth and in return we are suffering with it. Some examples of the distruction that
humans are causing the earth and themselves are; hunting and killing endangered species,
development of nuclear weapons and thus nuclear waste, increase of the risk of cancer due to
industrial chemicals in the environment, and least but not last the Ozone depletion problem. These
are only few examples from an endless list.

retired players that suffer from mental trauma or mental diseases from concussions. A concussion
is a short loss of brain function following a direct or indirect force to the head. Concussions are
extremely difficult to diagnose because the damage is seemingly invisible to the naked eye.
Although the damages may not be present, the effects are long lasting. Concussions are plaguing

Statistics show NFL players are paid $1.9 million a year on average. An injury as severe and time
consuming as a concussion can undoubtedly counteract this kind of pay. Professional athletes do
not want to jeopardize sitting out a game and missing their opportunity, [t]he return to play decision
is based on symptoms, and the problem is the players all want to get back yesterday and the
question is whether they are being truthful and honest during their evaluations, Stieg said
(Futterman). There is nothing doctors or trainers can do if the athlete lies about being symptom
free. They can suspect the severity of the concussion by just observing the athlete s behavioral
response toward certain things, like light or noise. As a result, early identification is extremely
beneficial to accurately examine damages to the brain because it leads to degenerative diseases.
These diseases are hard to catch if symptoms are not shown in the athlete right away. The NFL
has to adopt better protocol to diagnose concussions based on medical data instead of assessing by
judgment (Futterman). A more scientific approach is being studied that can diagnose concussions
faster and more accurately. By using a simple blood test after six hours of forceful impact, the test
can display brain cells that have broken down succeeding the impact. By exercising such a test, it
can rid the uncertainty of when it is safe to get an athlete back on the field without triggering
further cognitive damages.

The Renaissance And The Italian Renaissance
The Renaissance period is known for the revival of the classical art and intellect born in ancient
Greece and Rome. The Renaissance is also a time that is marked by growth, exploration, and
rebirth. The Italian Renaissance started in Florence and progressively made its way into Venice and
then into the great city of Rome. During the Renaissance, Rome was home to some of the most
renowned works of art and the finest architectural masterpieces in the world too many that still
holds true today. Along with the delicate architecture and grand artistry, Rome was also home to a
mixture of people and cultures. It is in this cultural context and through the book A Street Life in
Renaissance Rome: A Brief History with Documents, that understanding how men, woman, and
specifically Jewsand Christians lived in Rome becomes important to better understand this period
of renewal. Men who were Catholic in Rome during this period, by far, had the easiest part. For
the most part, they had jobs, they were able to hold property and they could vote. They were
also the heads of the households, the owners of businesses, and often could be seen in brothels. If
a man were to go pay for a prostitute nothing was ever said, men could sleep around with as many
women as he desires. Men were also seen less at fault than women. For example, in Document 11,
it presents the testimony from a rape trial. The outcomes of this trial are still unknown, however,
and an important piece is in the preface when

Selflessness And Selflessness In The Movie The Impossible
In the movie, The Impossible, Lucas Bennett shows selflessness and bravery as he does
everything to keep his mother, Maria, alive. While Lucas and Maria walk through the debris they
hear a child crying. Maria insists on helping anyone they can so she urges Lucas to help the child.
Lucas reflects that he is brave and selfless as he rescues the helpless child. He put his life in danger
to find a complete stranger. Lucas then faces another challenge as he pushes his motherup into the
tree, before pulling himself up. He puts his life in danger in order to insure his mother s safety.
Another example of Lucas s strong personalities is shown when Lucas makes it his priority to
reunite families in the hospital. Despite knowing the chances of reuniting a family, in such a large
hospital, were slim, he showed selflessness by trying anyway and putting other s needs in front of
his own. This displayed his selfless and brave qualities.
The film is based off of a tsunami that occurred in Thailand on the 26th of December. The
Bennett family ,of five, went to Thailand for a vacation, but were welcomed with an unexpected
event that changed their lives in an instant. A tsunami occurs at Khao Lak as the family is
swimming in the hotel pool. Each member is swept away in different directions. It shows the
family trying to survive and find each other. Maria and Lucas were separated from Henry (father),
Thomas and Simon. Maria is severely injured and Lucas is desperately trying to get help.

Haruhi s Characters
Haruhi is a very likable character; she doesn t care about saving face, very honest, kind, and
compassionate to others. She doesn t let the hard times pull her down or stop her from living her
life to the fullest. Her mom passed away when she was young; she only has her dad. Haruhi does
think about her mom, and the fact that her mother chat be there physically, bothers her (as it would
bother others). Seeing how she interacts with others, they wouldn t know that. It seems as though

Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth
Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational
forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and
the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this
bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly
smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the
earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and
the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows
relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for
use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In
addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very
predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be
optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your
community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there
could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. There are three
ways to harness the power of the tides; tidal barrages, tidal lagoons, and tidal streams. The first,
barrages, make use of the

Online Investigation And Intentional Of My Own Name
I have always been interested in names. At one point in my life, I would spend hours researching
them on various websites, saving my favorites for future use in one of the many books I planned on

testament to the fact that
I was not the only one who was obsessed; in recent years, interest in names has spiked as parents

Nevertheless, my middle name

Analysis of Undressing Aunt Frieda Undressing Aunt Frieda, is a poem about the narrator s

and takes place as the narrator and his daughter are about to leave the relative. The first half of the
poem explores Frieda and her past. The second half is about how the narrator and daughter have
grown and learned from the aunt. While undressing her aunt, the narrator feels emotions and

After the remembrance of how he was undressed, the speaker describes how Aunt Frieda would
undress herself. Frieda undressed herself in her younger days. Her slow removal of clothes
seemed like seduction. To the narrator, Frieda undressing herself represented a time of health,
independence and youth, I try to imagine her healthy, undressing herself (12). The speaker then
remembers how her aunt s body looked naked. She was a petite girl whose body had flaws. Her
marks represent the tough times Frieda had growing up. The poem eludes that it was her inner
beauty that stands out. It mentions two seventeenth century artists, Rubens and Rembrandt, who
have different styles of work. I researched their work and found that Rubens is known for his
very sensual and elegant work. In contrast, Rembrandt portrayed tragedy especially in his old
age. Aunt Frieda s life was not always glorious, and she endured many tough times. whose scarred

Race Theories And Its Consequences
Race has evolved through the scientific endeavor to forward knowledge, from a categorisation of
people based on geographic origin and physical traits, to a hierarchical concept that is used as a
tool to racially vilify, discriminate and marginalize particular races. The term race was introduced
in the 16th century and referred to a group category of people (Smedley, 1999). From then, the
concept of racewas scrutinized and redefined by the western world. America bought about the
concept of race present in modern day, however the intellectual framework that served as a guide
was European (Brace, 2005). Understanding of the evolution of race theories and its consequences

Indigenous Australians. Followed by, analysis of the works of contemporary artists, Richard Bell,
Bindi Cole, Bronwyn Bancroft, Daniel Boyd, Michael Riley, Gordon Bennett and Lin Onus in

Carolus Linnaeus (1707 78), a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, is known for his
taxonomic system, which laid the foundations of the modern biological categorization (Brace,
2005). His ambition was to make order the chaos of biological life based on distinctiveness and
established categories of generic and specific names. It divided humans into six categories; four
based on geographic location, and Homo ferus (wild man) and homo monstrosus (monster man)
(Fish, 2011). He further tried to make scientific sense of life by assigning traits to each of these
categories. Racial stereotyping has derived from this concept of Linnaeus taxonomy, with static
conceptions of a particular race that does not allow for individual variation and intergradations
(Fish, 2011). Australia was colonized at a time

This essay analyses and compares the views of both Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim on religion.
It encompasses the views of other scholars on the same subject. For instance scholars like Gorsuch
(1988) saw religion as an important variable in people s lives and yet Marx and Durkheim view
religion absolutely in an unexpected way, nevertheless both of them concur that religion is a vital
part of a general public. Amid his profession, Marx talked little on the subject of religion.
Notwithstanding, what is inadequate in volume is compensated for in power and exhaustiveness.
As stated by Bell (2008) some of Marx s best known obitera are about religion. It is the murmur of
the persecuted animal, the fanciful satisfaction of men. It is the reflex of this present reality and

The Consequence of Self Victimization in John Updike s A P
John Updike was a prolific American literary author during the mid 20th century. As a resident of
the small town of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Updike s real life environment staged the background of
rural coastal Americana in his 1961 short story A P. This setting introduces the main character
Sammy, a nineteen year old cashier at the popular grocery store known as the Great Atlantic and

toward his customers, a provocative girl, and his store manager, eventually lead to his downfall at

Sammy s sentiment of customers is clearly evident when he mistakenly rings up a box of crackers a

Pixar deliver stories by taking a simple, ordinary imagination, and gradually build up the stories
from a tiny spec, eventually creating an emotional connection with the audience. The main conflict
is being reminded regularly throughout the movie, and the plot never strays far from it. For
example, in Ratatouille the story revolves around Remy s dream to become a chef with the
background setting limited to confined spaces of the restaurant. This could be to ensure the story
does not stray far. With DreamWorks movies, however, the stories are told in a fast pace, taking the
audiences on a thrilling journey through a series of continuous adventures throughout the movie.
Jokes are told consistently, sometimes even including certain elements that could be seen as
unnecessary, but nevertheless entertaining, such as characters bursting into musical numbers. In
addition, unlike Pixar, DreamWorks strays far from realistic things. Their themes are diverse as it
often derives from legend, myths, fairytale, or bizarre imagination. As a result, audiences are
provided with action packed, entertaining movies, often bringing the crowd into a series of laughter.
However, though entertaining, the lack of emotion conveyed resulted in the movies to be less

Essay about Cognitive Development of Children
Piaget s phase concept explains the cognitive development of children. Cognitive development
implies transformation in the cognitive procedure and skills. In Piaget s vision, initial cognitive
development involves processes based upon measures and afterward proceeds into changes in the
cerebral operations. Schemas; a schema clarifies both the cerebral and physical actions occupied in
comprehending plus knowing. Schemas are sorts of information that help us to explain and

As children progress through the phases of cognitive development, it is significant to keep a
balance between applying previous knowledge (assimilation) and changing behavior to account for
new knowledge (accommodation). Equilibration helps explain how children are adept to shift from
1 stage of theory into the next. The 1st stage of Piaget s concept survives from birth to roughly age
2 and is centered on the infant attempting to make sense of the world. During the sensor motor
stage, an infant s wisdom of the world is restricted to their sensory observations and motor
activities. Behaviors are restricted to trouble free motor reactions produced by sensory stimuli.
Children use skills and abilities they were born with, such as looking, sucking, grasping, and
listening, to learn more about the natural environment. The sensor motor stage can be separated
into 6 separate substages that are distinguished by the growth of a new skill. Throughout this
substage, the child appreciates the atmosphere entirely through inborn reflexes such as sucking and
looking. This substage involves coordinating sensation and new schemas. For example, a child may
perhaps such his or her thumb by accident and then later intentionally repeat the action. These
actions are repeated because the infant finds them pleasurable. During this substage, the

followers, I know that throughout high school I logged ridiculous hours into their game Diablo
II which was a top selling game of the time. In gaming the Blizzard Company has created more
top ranked games bringing in more money than most people can truly fathom. When all is said
and done what is the true value of such a company, how much money do they control in our
economy? Who is it that can rival such a behemoth of a company? Within these few pages I will
try to encompass the mass of this company, what it is that drives them and to what extent their
influence travels within our world and perhaps beyond. Although Blizzard was created in 1991
it was not public, it was not until September, 30 1993 that it was made a publically traded
company. Upon its first day of trading it commanded a price of only eighty three cents per share.
Today it has a price of over thirty five dollars per share with a record high price of $38.71 just a
week ago. Considering the price it started at this is a remarkable feat, this company started small
and has weathered some of the worst economic storms we have seen in our history. Though we
have recovered a great deal since the housing market collapse, as a whole the market recently has
been going down across all boards I believe as a result of the oil prices

Energy Security in the Asia Pacific Region
ENERGY SECURITY IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION To meet China s fast rising energy
demands, Chinese leaders exerted great effort with a market oriented approach and a state
centered approach. The market oriented approach look for energy safety by better assimilation of
national and international markets ...state intervention would be restricted to the dispersal of data
in a multilateral context, the help of innovation, and, for few management of a strategic oil reserve
which would be applied in case of fleeting supply interruption. In contrast, the state centered
approach is based upon neo mercantilist a thought that relies on bilateral diplomatic contacts with
oil producing countries to strengthen energy security by the use of national resource and state
owned enterprise investments in overseas energy resources and firm control of exports and
imports of energy products. Though market oriented economic change has been the way of post
Mao reforms, the market oriented approach has not increased momentum in the energy division
because the Chinese leadership has mull over China s energy security tactically too significant to
be left to market forces alone . Taking over offices in 2002, President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen
Jiabao decided that securing unwavering supplies of petroleum and added scare resources was not
merely critical to maintained economic development, but also essential to China s national security

I Want to Graduate as a Civil Engineer
Personal Statement
Infrastructure has always played a crucial role in human prosperity. Development in infrastructure
like roads, bridges and dams has facilitated interaction between different communities enhancing
trade and cultural exchange. Until recently little attention was paid to the effects of infrastructure
development on our environment and living conditions. Increased exploitation of natural resources
is challenging mankind s response to nature s dynamic equilibrium changes. I believe Civil
Engineering will play a major role in harmonious engineering development and overcome years of
non sustainable development planning.
India is on the threshold of hectic development in infrastructure and is in a tearing hurry to make up
for lost time as it tries to catch up with the developed world to achieve a better standard of living. It
is here that I hope to contribute to a more conscientious development agenda that will have minimal
effects on future generations. Watching a country blossom with new mega structures and cities is
an opportunity that comes once every few generations and structural engineering will form the
center stage of engineering development. Ever since childhood, I was curious about how things
were shaped in the world. When I visited towns and cities I was always stuck staring at physical
structures be it an ancient monument or a daunting skyscraper. Fortunately, I had patient members
in my family who explained the intricacies that ensured my

British Rule in India at the End of the First World War
British Rule in India at the End of the First World War By the end of the First World War the
British Rule in India was still powerful, but would soon break down. However, thousands of
Indians fought in the war hoping that in return they would be given home rule. It would have been
difficult to win without the invaluable help of the Indians and their constant supply of manpower.
India was a vast supplier of raw materials to Britain and would in return buy British manufactured
goods. Two thirds of India was governed by the British, whilst the remainder was governed by
Indian princes. The princely state rulers kept their power by signing treaties with the British.

However, there were outbreaks of violence in Punjab, which grew worse when the British
government failed to make any statements of home rule. Indian involvement in Government
during this period was encouraged by trying to give the Indians more political power, without
giving them all the power. Also, by the many attempted acts which many Indian s accepted but
were also opposed by the people who were expecting complete home rule. 2. In what ways did the
British government attempt to change the government from 1919 to 1939? (15) The British
government s attempts to change the government were its numerous acts to satisfy the Indian
opinion, as this is partially the main purpose of why all these acts were introduced (to satisfy the
Indians). The first Government of India act was passed in December 1919 and put into effect The
Montagu Chelmsford Reform which set up a system know as the Dyrachy. To advise the Viceroy
an Executive Council was also set up. Then, in 1927, the Simon Commission was selected to
evaluate the workings of the Montagu Chelmsford Reform. The Rowlatt Acts were intended to
extend the Defence of India Act into peacetime. This act would enable the government to arrest and
imprison any troublemakers without trial and allowed judges to try

Reflective Essay About My Mandala
During the past few weeks in Global Perspectives we explored our personal culture, and the
influences that shape it. Our task was to create a mandala: a circular set of symbols that convey
the contrast between the sun and shadow sides of our personality. While the sun side is the
disposition other people see, the shadow side captures unseen aspects of our personality. In this
reflection, I further examine how I embody the characteristic behind each symbol and how I
came to possess this characteristic. First, on the sun side (right), the uppermost symbol is a
firecracker, which represents my exuberance. Firecrackers are loud, colorful, and unpredictable.
Being the youngest of my friends and family, I have always been loud craving attention and
achieved it through antics, similar to a firecracker exploding. However, as exciting as some
consider firecrackers, to some they are scary. My loud personality and my never ending energy
sometimes send the wrong impression, and I come off as a little hard to handle. Though my
family was part of the reason I wanted get attention, but I was the one would would rather be
noticed all the time, than blend in to the background, this is why I classify this as something I
developed by my free will. This is the one trait that many people first notice about me, which is
why I think... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

characteristic, I believe, was groomed within me because of my genetics, my mother is much the

Wuthering Heights Controversy
Emily Bronte started writing Wuthering Heights in December of 1847. She was born on July
30, 1818 in England. She live with her father, brother, and two sisters. She was not too fond of
people. The alternative was her liking to animals as they do not judge nor cause pain, just love
for their human counterpart. She was known for having the will of iron because anything that
she sets her mind too gets done without hesitation. This can be seen in her writing as one of her
characters in the book never gave up trying to get what he wants. One of her favorite pass times
was cooking in the kitchen to get away from the moors. Also being stubborn has led to her death
because she never wanted to go to the doctor or rest when she was ill. She died from... Show more

Majority of the people would get sick and die because of the lack of medicines and antibiotics.
The characters would mostly die from being sick. This is an issue because kids would often be
left alone without parents. Since the main character did not have any parents, he was raised
cruelly. He was abused and mistreated by none relative and made him grow up to be a
psychopath. The author did a great job on using symbols to help understand what the feeling and
emotions are running through the characters minds. Many scenes were memorable. The first
scene that caught my attention is the female and male first realize the love that they have for
each other. The scene helped me understand what a nice moment it was for both of the
characters. Heathcliff s love for Catherine is intense and he is very romantic and full of passion.
She loves him as well and she considers themselves as one. She tells Nelly about this when she
tells her about Edgar. When Catherine talks to Nelly about Edgar, they are in the kitchen. Cathy
was sure that they were alone, and nobody was there to listen. She was wrong. Little did she
know, Heathcliff overheard her tell Nelly that she cannot be with Heathcliff because Hindley has
degraded him too much and that marrying him would degrade her. She proceeds to confess her
love for Heathcliff to Nelly. Heathcliff leaves because he overheard what Cathy told

Hot Tin Roof Mendacity
The Term Mendacity And Its Thematic Contributions to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee
Williams [They are] all liars, all liars, all lying dying liars (2.1.985). The preceding is one of the
most emotional lines at the end of the second act in Tennessee Williams play Cat on a Hot Tin
Roof. It also succeeds in setting the tone for the entire play. The story centers on a dysfunctional
southern family who is plagued by lies and deception. The closing of the second act is one of the
most intense and critical moments in the play where Big Daddy finds out his son, Gooper, and
daughter in law, Mae, have been lying to him about his rapidly declining health. Just before this
gripping climax, however, Big Daddy has an emotional conversation with his youngest son, Brick,
about mendacity. This term is central to the play s themes and is mentioned continuously
throughout the play. Still, the lies and dishonesties come from many different entities within the
play. The roots of most problems the characters face in the play come from mendacity within the
society, their family and the characters themselves.Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is set in the 1950 s, a
time when society still considered homosexuality as a mental disorder, as it was not removed
from The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) until 1973 (Drescher). In
the play, it is repeatedly mentioned that Brick and his deceased friend Skipper may have had
feelings for each other that were deeper than those

An Examination of America s Two Party System Essay
An Examination of America s Two Party System
Democracy in the United States is based on the indirect representation of the people by elected
officials who are usually chosen by direct vote. Almost from the beginning of the United States
history, however, two parties have shared the great majority of the elected positions from the local
level to the presidency. However, up until the mid 1850 s when the Republican partywas formed,
other parties such as the Whigs, Federalists, and Anti Federalists did not last very long. The
Democratic Party has existed for much longer, tracing its roots from Thomas Jefferson s Democratic
Republican Party beginning around 1792 (Encarta). The two largest parties have changed, third
parties have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two party system is said to promote governmental stability because a single party can win a
majority of political offices and, with less bickering between differing and partisan legislators,
govern more efficiently. In a multiparty country, on the other hand, the formation of a government
depends on the maintenance of a coalition of parties with enough total strength to form a political
majority. The weakness of the ties that bind the coalition may threaten the continuance of a cabinet
in power. The stability shown by the government of the United States has not been entirely due to
its party system, it has been argued, but has been promoted also by the fixed tenure and strong
constitutional position of the president, as well as checks and balances built into the constitution to
prevent one branch of federal government from becoming too powerful.
The Founding Fathers of the United States did not mention political parties in the Constitution.
When George Washington left office he warned the country of the baneful effects of the spirit of
party (Crabtree 18). and James Madison believed that the new nation s politics would be structured
around a greater number of factions representing various segments of the electorate rather than the
overwhelmingly bi partisan arrangement that exists today (Barone 64). Others felt they existed only
to manipulate the independent will of the voters. Yet, by the end of

Harold And Maude Essay
Films are almost always centred around people, or aliens or animals with human like qualities.
The purpose of film is storytelling, and the best of storytellers allow their listeners to see the world
in a different way, to put themselves into the shoes of a character in the story, to insert themselves
where they see fit. Harold and Maudeis no different. Despite its age, the 1971 cult classic Harold
and Maude reaches out for that part of us that we all know is a little odd, that part of us that we
want to hide but at the same time know needs to be addressed for the uniqueness of our personal
selves. What s most interesting about the film is how it documents transitions between characters,
not just through the plot but through the cinematography... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Across different cultures, different colours represent different things. Because of how American
this movie is, Harold and Maude take on a north American colour scheme when trying to
represent ideas on screen. At the beginning of the movie, dominant colours are black and white,
representing simplicity and death. For the first 30 minutes of the film, there is barley a hint of
any bright colour to be seen, aside from the white walls of Harold s psychiatrist s office. Here,
black is the obvious symbol of death which encompasses the main points of the movie and
becomes easily associated with Harold, the boy obsessed with death (the white, instead of
representing purity in its traditional sense, can represent sanitization or a sort of cleansing that his
psychiatrist is trying to impose upon Harold). Clothing wise, Maude s outfits are either stand out
colours like those she wears to funerals, or earthy tones, which could have been forth with the
intention that Maude is one with the earth, as her character is routinely trying to help the planet,
for example when she would protest in her youth and in the moving of the tree from the city to a
forest. Of course, because of Maude, Harold abandons his darkened suits and ties and adopts a
more youthful, colourful wardrobe, his clothes reflect him coming back to life so to

The Influence Of Acetylcholine On The Body
The body uses chemicals known as neurotransmitters, and according to Dr. C. George Boeree, they
are chemicals which allow the transmission of signals from one neuron to the next across synapses.
Additionally, neurotransmitters are also responsible for muscle stimulation that are produced by
adrenal glands and pituitary glands. One of the first, and most abundant, neurotransmitters to be
discovered is acetylcholine, often abbreviated ACh (Cherry). This was first discovered by a
German biologist, Otto Loewi, in 1921 who later won a Nobel Prize for his findings (Boeree).
Acetylcholine is present in both inhibitory functions as well as excitatory functions, which means
that it can both speed up and slow down nerve signals ( Acetylcholine ). Its role in the central
nervous systemis excitatory, and plays a role in arousal, learning, memory, and neuroplasticity. Other
functions include engaging functions such as waking, help sustain focus, maintain rapid eye
movement... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example imbalances in acetylcholine can cause the development of myasthenia gravis, a
disorder that causes weakness in muscles and fatigue ( Acetylcholine ). Another example is the fact
that an imbalance of acetylcholine and dopamine, can cause Parkinson s disease. Acetylcholine
works with dopamine neurotransmitter linked with mood and the sensation of pleasure to smooth
out movements so when there is an imbalance it causes shaky movements, which is a key trait of
Parkinson s disease ( Acetylcholine ). Even damage to the certain parts of the brain that produces
acetylcholine, such as the cholinergic portion of the brain, is linked to cause the development of
Alzheimer s disease; the varied levels of acetylcholine is common in Alzheimer s patients. The lack
of acetylcholine, specifically in the hippocampus can cause dementia; although, an abundant
amount of acetylcholine can cause depression

Penny Should Be Eliminated Essay
Should the Production and Use of the Penny be Eliminated in the United States?
By Sydni Peters
If you gave Canada a penny for their thought, they d advise you to get rid of the small copper
coins. In fact, Canada, as well as many other countries have already taken action to rid their nation
of the need for their lowest valued currency. Meanwhile, in America, our one centcoins are losing
their value while causing other prices to rise. To discontinue the minting of these coins would mean
better prices and a better economy. Furthermore, pennies cost more than their value to create,
leading to more debt for each impractical coin minted. Despite being a trademark piece of currency,
the most opportune option would be the abandonment of pennies. The United States should
eliminate the penny because they are causing inflation and the results would be extremely beneficial.

According to the article, Penny Wise or 2.4 Cent Foolish? , the dropping of the penny could mean
reduced prices and a strengthened economy. If there were no penny, prices would have to be
rounded. Some may argue that the more practical choice would be to raise prices to make more
money. However, in today s competitive market, many businesses would consider lowering prices
to make their products more desirable. Currently, the government loses millions of dollars to the
minting of pennies. Moreover, in 2011, over $60.2 million was wasted on these coins that most of
the population does not even consider sensible. Getting rid of these coins would be the most
economically beneficial choice for our nation and its

Free From Slavery
The moment the slave resolves that he will no longer be a slave, his fetters will not fall. Freedom
and slavery are mental states. This famous quote from Mahatma Gandhi, an Indian independence
icon, explained the ways of declining the role of a slave with the help of his/her conscience.
However, this got me into thinking. In the light of this quote, am I really free from slavery? In
general, Gandhi s quote is impossible. I cannot be completely free from slavery. Why is this so? In
a conscious mind, one can think that he/she is free from slavery, however, in his/her unconscious
mind, he/she is not free from the slavery of the dominant system or some other form of system.

Howard Schultz Strategy with Starbucks
When Howard Schultz first experienced Starbucks Coffee, Tea and Spice he was immediately
smitten by the operations and business culture, and actively pursued a job with them. At that time,
Starbucks Coffee, Tea and Spice was an 11 year old coffee shop with six stores in Seattle
specializing in high quality coffeebeans. StarbucksCoffee, Tea and Spice desired to bring fine
coffee to their customers, so to that end, they imported quality coffee beans, roasted them to their
own exacting specifications and sold the beans and high end coffeemakers to their customers, so
customers could make superb coffee at home. The only coffee brewed onsite was the sampling of a
roast, in order for a customer to determine if they wanted to buy that... Show more content on

Starbucks discovered that the connections we make in communities create[d] a loyal following.
(starbucks.com) Customers spent afternoons at Starbucks. They brought their work to Starbucks.
They dated at Starbucks. And they came back! Sometimes daily.
Schultz s strategy was a success. Starbucks became the number 1 retailer of specialty coffees.
When Schultz took a break from everyday operations as CEO in 2000, Starbucks had grown to
3,501 stores. What a growth from a start of 11 stores and 100 employees in 1987.
Two CEOs followed Schultz s tenure and Jim Donald, the second one, put increasing the number
of stores and store efficiencies as his strategy above customer service driving the business.
Complaints surfaced that Starbucks felt more like a fast food restaurant than a coffeehouse. (New
York Times ~ Business Day, 2012) This pursuit, along with the Great Recession, created havoc in
Starbucks finances, driving stock price from a high of $40 (5/1/2006) to $8 (11/17/2008). (Living
Economics) At that point, the Board ousted Jim Donald and asked Schultz to come back as CEO
and lead a major restructuring and revitalization initiative. (Thompson amp; Shah, 2010)
Just like the first time he walked into Starbucks in 1981, Schultz wanted to be transported by the
aromas and the ambience. He found the corporation he came back to missing those points. Making
of breakfast sandwiches, added to compete with

Elements Of Bodily Excess In Films
4.The three Genres that share the elements of bodily excess are Pornography, Melodrama, and
Horror. The use of bodily excess that enhances the emotion, violence, sex, and drama in these films
aim to project these sensations and emotions onto the audience as well. One of the elements of
bodily excess that the three genres of filmpossess are excessive bodily movements. In Pornography,
the bodily movements are created to appeal sexually to the audience. In Melodrama, the excessive
bodily movements allow a heightened sense of the importance or impact of the drama in the film,
adding to the exaggeration of drama. For example, the more violent or out of control the protagonist
is, the higher the level of drama. Horror films carry the same degree of bodily movements as
melodrama where the characters are usually in constant motion running, fighting, killing, etc. where
there are excessive and exhausting movements that increase as the horror heightens.
Sound is also a crucial aspect for these three genres of film when discussing bodily excess. In
these three genres. The sensation of the body is portrayed by Horror s shouts of terror and fear,
Pornography s sounds of pleasure and orgasm, and Melodrama s sounds of crying and conflict. ...

  • 4. Samuel Slater s Views Of The Industrial Revolution The North and the South stood as two distinct regions during the antebellum period in America. The North and the South were rapidly diverging in all aspects: cultural, economic, and technological. The Northern industrial sector was modernizing the North, and the economy was starting to become more dependent upon manufacturing. Culturally, the Women s Rights movement was advancing as more and more women fought against the Cult of Domesticity. Women entered the man s sphere and began to work in factories. In the South cotton became the cash crop and slavery was an integral part of their economy and culture. The views propounded by Southern elites of their home region and its way of life did not resemble those held by Northern observers of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The South considered agriculture, especially the production of cotton, to be the crux of their economy. The South was producing half of the world s cotton. Sprawling estates and plantations with hundreds of slaves running them dotted the southern region. Eli Whitney s cotton gin made cotton production easier, faster, and it revived the industry once again. Soon, tons of cotton was being traded in foreign countries and in the North. Cotton was a fast cash business, but it ruined the soil, leaving the plantation owners to constantly be looking for new land. In little to no time, the South had become a one crop economy with everything becoming dependent on cotton sales, which were dependent on other factors such as demand for cotton goods. One of the most lucrative, horrifying, and large businesses was the slave trade. Many Southern whites considered slavery a necessity for their economy. The South was able to produce these enormous amounts of cotton because of the manual labor provided by slaves. In the beginning, during the era of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, slavery was considered a necessary evil. However, views of slavery were rapidly changing and by the Jacksonian era, many Southerners saw no other option than slavery. William Harper, a jurist in South Carolina, ventured to say, The cultivation... of great staple crops cannot be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As society continues to evolve people maintain their quest to accept full humanity, in this process individuals question not only who their authentic self is, but what is keeping them from accepting that version of themselves. A question which Freire addresses in his Pedagogy of the Oppressed as he emphasizes how liberation transcends time, and atmosphere. Instead he chooses to illustrate a process which is embodied by acceptance of the oppressor, activism, fellowship, solidarity, and reflection, it is these components that create the means for a successful path to liberation, while simultaneously allowing for the identification of personal and societal growth (Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed). • 12. The French Revolution And The French And American Revolution The French and American Revolution do have some similarities although, ultimately, the two wars are completely different. One of the main differences is that the American Revolution was sparked by the American people who were unhappy with the way the British were controlling them. As a result, the Americans were looking for independence. The French Revolution, on the other hand, was centered on putting an end to the monarchy and implementing a new style of government while also changing the social structure which favored the hereditary elites. Another difference is in relation to how the revolutions were fought. The Americans elected representatives who assumed powers of government and created their own currency which effectively cut off payments to Britain while the US organized an official army (495). The American Revolutioninitially put together two military powers which fought throughout the thirteen colonies. Although the British won most of the battles, the Americans would be able to form a competent military, with civilian support networks, that provided supplies and financial support (495). Although this was not quite enough, it took until the French intervened, as allies to the Americans, the British finally surrendered granting independence to these colonies. The French Revolution was, for the most part, all internal. It started when the Third Estate declared itself The National Assembly, this move made the king realized that the people planned for him to agree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the many exoplanets that could possibly be habitable in the near future are far away. For example, Kepler 186 is around 500 light years aways to put that in perspective that is around 5,878,625,373,183.607731 Miles away. That is why we know so little about these planets that could support life on them. Starting off, what is some of the criteria that is needed to live on a planet. The University of Utah put it best when they described what is needed. First off, the most common way to find new planets is Radial Velocity. The Radial Velocity method relies on the fact that a star does not remain completely stationary when it is orbited by a planet. It moves, ever so slightly, in a small circle or ellipse, responding to the gravitational tug of its smaller companion. When viewed from a distance, these slight movements affect the star s normal light spectrum, or color signature. If the star is moving towards the observer, then its spectrum would appear slightly shifted towards the blue; if it is moving away, it will be shifted towards the red. Secondly, Transit Photometry is the second most common method. This method detects distant planets by measuring the minute dimming of a star as an orbiting planet passes between it and the Earth. The passage of a planet between a star and the Earth is called a transit. If such a dimming is detected at regular intervals and lasts a fixed length of time, then it is very probable that a planet is orbiting the star and passing in front of it once every orbital period. Lastly, the method of Microlensing is Microlensing is the only known method capable of discovering planets at truly great distances from the Earth. Whereas radial velocity searches look for planets in our immediate galactic neighborhood, up to 100 light years from Earth, and transit photometry can potentially detect planets at a distance of hundreds of light years, microlensing can find planets orbiting stars near the center of the galaxy, thousands of light years away ( How to Search for Exoplanet.). They can suspect the severity of the concussion by just observing the athlete s behavioral response toward certain things, like light or noise. As a result, early identification is extremely beneficial to accurately examine damages to the brain because it leads to degenerative diseases. These diseases are hard to catch if symptoms are not shown in the athlete right away. The NFL has to adopt better protocol to diagnose concussions based on medical data instead of assessing by judgment (Futterman). A more scientific approach is being studied that can diagnose concussions faster and more accurately. • 25. Impact Of Tidal Energy On The Earth Tides and currents have existed since before the dawn of man. While the rotation and gravitational forces of the earth act to keep our ocean levels steady, that equilibrium is disrupted by the moon and the sun. The gravitational pull of both the sun and the moon cause the oceans to bulge, and as this bulge moves around the planet, the tides occur. Furthermore, the moon, although significantly smaller than the sun, has a far greater affect on the tides due to its relatively small distance from the earth. In addition, the tides also vary in intensity based on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and the earth. When aligned, a higher than normal, lunar high tideoccurs. But why are these flows relevant to renewable energy? They are important because that tidal energy can be harnessed for use as a power source. Tidal power, like other renewable energy sources, is inexhaustible. In addition, there is a major advantage over other clean energies, in that tidal energy is very predictable. For example, there are not any wind charts telling what time of day the winds will be optimal but there are charts of the tides. Therefore, by taking advantage of this resource, your community could work towards being energy independent and self sustaining. Moreover, there could be an opportunity to use any excess power generated as an income source. • 33. Self-Victimization In John Updike s A P The Consequence of Self Victimization in John Updike s A P John Updike was a prolific American literary author during the mid 20th century. As a resident of the small town of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Updike s real life environment staged the background of rural coastal Americana in his 1961 short story A P. This setting introduces the main character Sammy, a nineteen year old cashier at the popular grocery store known as the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. A teenager on the cusp of adulthood, Sammy s perception and attitude toward his customers, a provocative girl, and his store manager, eventually lead to his downfall at the A P grocery. Sammy s sentiment of customers is clearly evident when he mistakenly rings up a box of crackers a second time at the opening of the story. This seemingly innocent mistake by Sammy results in an outburst by a shopper that he describes as an old witch in her fifties that had been enthusiastically waiting for moments like this to strike. Pixar deliver stories by taking a simple, ordinary imagination, and gradually build up the stories from a tiny spec, eventually creating an emotional connection with the audience. This could be to ensure the story does not stray far. With DreamWorks movies, however, the stories are told in a fast pace, taking the audiences on a thrilling journey through a series of continuous adventures throughout the movie. As children progress through the phases of cognitive development, it is significant to keep a balance between applying previous knowledge (assimilation) and changing behavior to account for new knowledge (accommodation). Equilibration helps explain how children are adept to shift from 1 stage of theory into the next. The 1st stage of Piaget s concept survives from birth to roughly age 2 and is centered on the infant attempting to make sense of the world. During the sensor motor stage, an infant s wisdom of the world is restricted to their sensory observations and motor activities. Behaviors are restricted to trouble free motor reactions produced by sensory stimuli. Children use skills and abilities they were born with, such as looking, sucking, grasping, and listening, to learn more about the natural environment. The sensor motor stage can be separated into 6 separate substages that are distinguished by the growth of a new skill. Throughout this substage, the child appreciates the atmosphere entirely through inborn reflexes such as sucking and looking. This substage involves coordinating sensation and new schemas. For example, a child may perhaps such his or her thumb by accident and then later intentionally repeat the action. These actions are repeated because the infant finds them pleasurable. The weakness of the ties that bind the coalition may threaten the continuance of a cabinet in power. The stability shown by the government of the United States has not been entirely due to its party system, it has been argued, but has been promoted also by the fixed tenure and strong constitutional position of the president, as well as checks and balances built into the constitution to prevent one branch of federal government from becoming too powerful. The Founding Fathers of the United States did not mention political parties in the Constitution. One of the first, and most abundant, neurotransmitters to be discovered is acetylcholine, often abbreviated ACh (Cherry).
