Shaped Hair
Introduction There is something we all did this morning before we left our house. Can anyone take a
guess? We all looked in the mirror and did our hair. Form the time women are young we are taught
that our appearance is important. When it comes to hair we all go through the same struggle of trying
to find something that will enhance our features. No matter your ethnicity or background we all
through the phase of wanting a new look. Rather we re thinking about cutting or continuing to let it
grow. We contemplate on if we should change the color or do highlights. (Nina Ellis Harvey, Ashely

Background Facts About We Are Acting For Robert Joyce Essay
BACKGROUND FACTS: We are acting for Robert Joyce, who has two problems regarding different
issues. The first problem is in relation to his company, Joyce Holdings Ltd. His company was granted
a commercial lease, whereby Mr Joyce acted as a guarantor and guaranteed to take on a new lease of
the premises if the company became insolvent. The company went into administration early this year.
The administrators have vacated the property and ceased to take responsibility or pay rent to the
landlord. They have returned the keys and surrendered the lease for no payment. The landlord has
secured the premises and marketed it receiving no interest. The landlord is now requiring Mr Joyce to
take a new lease of the premises under his guarantee. The second problem concerns his freehold house
in Peterborough. He wishes to let this out to foreign workers (principally but not exclusively) from
Poland. He is not using a letting agent as he has his own source in Poland. He is aware of the
legislative requirements up until the end of 2015 and is unaware of any changes in 2016.
PROBLEM: Mr Joyce is the guarantor for his company and has a commercial lease. He made an
agreement stating that he will take a new lease of the premises if the company became insolvent. The
company has become insolvent and the administrators have vacated the premises, ceasing to take
responsibility for it. They have offered surrender of the lease for no payment. The landlord has taken

Mcdonalds Stock Valuation
12/10/12 BMGT 443 McDonalds Valuation Project Write Up To begin the economic analysis of
McDonalds, we must first look at the company beta. McDonalds has a beta of .34 meaning it is not as
volatile when compared to the market and can be categorized as a low risk stock. To determine that
financial impact of changes in economic conditions to the performance McDonalds, three economic
indicators must be evaluated. The leading economic index (LEI), coincident economic index (CEI),
and lagging economic index (LAG), are constructed to summarize and reveal common turning point
patterns in economic data in a clearer and more convincing manner than any individual component.

A new chain could provide McDonalds with some competition, but with McDonalds place in the
market we believe the chances of that occurring are low. Supplier power will remain the same (1.5) as
new suppliers and cheaper methods of supply are likely over the next few years. The buyer power will
also remain low (1.5) as we do not foresee any changes in McDonalds already cheap prices. We do
believe the threat of substitutes will rise (4.5). There is heavy pressure on healthy foods and we only
believe that will rise. Healthy options will be advertised more and people will continue to push
healthier eating. The rivalry of the industry will remain high (4.5). This will rise as the threat of new
companies and new companies trying to be healthier than the competition. McDonalds is everywhere,
and will remain so over the next few years, pushing its overall advantages even higher. The ROIC is
used to assess McDonalds efficiency at allocating the capital under their control to profitable
investments. Additionally we can examine the ROIC to see how McDonalds is doing compared to the
industry. Over the companies past fiscal year, McDonalds had an ROIC of 21.49% and a WACC of
6.51%. We can compare this to the industry average ROIC of 22.59% and the industry average WACC
of 7.49%. In briefly comparing both spreads it does not show McDonald s having a competitive
advantage in the industry, as the spreads are nearly

Tim Rowe Case Summary
Tim Rowe owns his own trucking company and has always hired his employees based on three
criteria. They must have a high school diploma, pass a short paper and pencil test that they must score
at least a 70 on and have a valid driver s license if they are applying for the position of a driver. Tim
was notified recently that 2 equal employment complaints had been filed against him and his firm. The
complaints are from a woman that alleges the test does not measure a person s ability to drive and is
not a valid predictor of job success and the other is from a minority man that alleges that a high school
diploma requirement is not related to his ability to do that particular job and that it unfairly
discriminates against minorities as a whole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and The Age
Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 all prohibit the use of discriminatory employment tests
and selection procedures. A fair selection process consists of judging people on their ability to do the
job and not on the basis of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, genetic information or
disability. Since Tim is the owner of the company he has the right to use any legal hiring methods he
chooses to find the best person(s) for the job and the requirements are defined by him. The criteria are
said to be applied to all applicants and not just a specific group of people and all applicants are held to
the same hiring standard. To further evaluate the selection procedure I would need for Tim to provide
information to help show that no discrimination has taken place and that it truly is standard for all
applicants. Tim would need to submit copies of policies he has in place and provide files of employees
for review of the test scores and ratings when it came to the selection process. Interviews would need
to be conducted with randomly selected employees to provide first hand witness account to what goes
on in the office and confidentiality needs to be maintained so that no retaliation

Essay on Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse and Forster s...
In both Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse and Forster s Howards End, most of the characters are
devoid of any social conscience until circumstances beyond their control force them to realize that
being morally responsible to one another is the key to happiness. Only when this connection is made
can each person realize their true potential for personal growth. First, in To the Lighthouse, Mr.
Ramsey is constantly portrayed as a self absorbed man who thinks of what he could have been and
how people perceive him. Mr. Bankes thinks about Mr. Ramsay, Could one help noticing that habits
grew on him? Eccentricities, weaknesses perhaps? It was astonishing that a man of his intellect could

Only by helping others does Mrs. Ramsay enjoy life. Her entire life as well as her perception and self
identity revolve around fulfilling what she believes are the needs of other people. On the other hand,
Lily Briscoe says about herself, there was her father; her home; even, had she dared to say it, her
painting.... she liked to be alone; she liked to be herself; she was not made for that... her dear Lily, her
little Brisk, was a fool (53). Lily constantly compared herself to Mrs. Ramsay as well as others and
fell short of who she felt that she should have already become. But Lily Briscoe is a dreamer and a
lazy person who would rather complain about her life than actually do something about it. However,
after finding out that she was dying, she says to herself, For now she need not think about anybody.
She could be herself, by herself. And that was what now she often felt the need of to think; well, not
even to think. To be silent; to be alone... she became the thing she looked at that light, for example
(65,66). Once she reveals to her husband that she is dying her entire purpose for living changes. She
becomes the lighthouse to her family lighting their way to become to each other what she had been to
them. For instance, after they return to the house, Lily relates that Mr. Ramsay had said to Mrs.

Persuasive Essay About Yosemite
JAMES O DONNELL
Funny thing about camping in Yosemite for years with my family. Every time we invited a family to
camp with us, they all responded while sitting around the camp fire, with the same statement. There
are no bears in Yosemite ! Some how in their own minds they seemed to think their statement would
keep them away. Or they wanted reassurance from us there weren t any. We have had several
encounters with them in our camp, but the Rangers have mostly contained them. Trouble is, what
Yosemite are you talking about? Yosemite Valley where most of the camping is, or Yosemite National
Park.
In this particular situation, the wife was very skeptical of bears being there. To the point of being
down right rude, and snickering at the thought of them. However once in the while, the Gods will just
smile down upon us. And They did so! After all Yosemite IS A WILDERNESS!
Our families hiked up to the top of Nevada Falls and there we sat down to picnic, near this beautiful
Falls. We broke out our box lunches, opened our soda s. A few minutes into enjoying our food, I
looked up about ten feet behind the group and above the rest of the party. Here comes a Mother black
bear over the rise with her baby cub. Seeing this instant trouble, I told every one to drop their food and
back away. The Mother herself looked only to be not more than five or six years old. And to quote my
girls the cub was adorable. We all backed away and watched the mother sort through our lunch, and

Tourism As A Source Of Revenue Managing Destinations Essay
In today s competitive economies and with growth of tourism as a source of revenue managing
destinations is an important and integral part of controlling tourism s environmental impacts and
promoting sustainable tourism in the region. Destination management includes planned business
permits to organizations, land use planning, environmental and other regulations and various other
methods for the development and operations of activities related to tourism. According to UNWTO
The programme for Destination Management is committed to respond positively to the growing need
for systematic, multidisciplinary and intersectoral strategies for tourism at local, regional and national
level and in particular to provide strategic guidance in destination management which is a recent
conceptualization of a micro level activity at national, regional and/or local level in which the tourism
stakeholders carry out their individual and organizational responsibilities in a coordinated manner
aiming to achieve the macro level policies. (United Nations World Tourism Organization)
The term destination is given to an area where tourism is of significant importance and economy is
highly influenced by tourism. UNWTO defines destinations as A local tourism destination is a
physical space in which a visitor spends at least one overnight. It includes tourism products such as
support services and attractions, and tourism resources within one day´s return travel time. It has

Analysis Of Paulo Coelho s Journey In The Alchemist
As Drake, a three time grammy winning rapper, said in his high school graduation speech, Sometimes
it s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination. These journeys can be hard, and in The
Alchemist Santiago learns that his journey taught him a lot of the values that shape his personality.
Paulo Coelho represents the everyman with Santiago, and uses his journey to communicate the moral
of the novel which is the journey you follow while pursuing your Personal Legend is the treasure not
the treasure itself, once again relating back to Drake s quote. In The Alchemist Paulo Coelho uses
Santiago to illustrate that completing your Personal Legend is not easy, and you need to take wisdom
from others, be willing to change, and persevere through hardships in order to succeed. Wisdom is
usually passed on by someone who is elder to you, and wisdom allows you to have a larger
perspective on precise situations. At the beginning of the novel, the king introduces Santiago to the
idea of discovering [one s] Personal Legend, but at the time Santiago, didn t know what a person s
Personal Legend was. (23) Paulo Coelho included this detail in the book to show the connection
between wisdom from others and pursuing our dreams. Without the king s input on Santiago s
recurring dreams, Santiago wouldn t have known what his Personal Legend was or what a Personal
Legend is for that matter. This connects to us because in the real world many thrive off of others. For

Learning Styles and Student Nurses
Learning can be defined as the process of acquiring knowledge or skills through experience,
independent or collaborative study, and teachings under guided instruction (Fisher Frey, 2008). One of
the most efficient processes of learning that promotes progressive knowledge and skill development is
a process that focusses on learning styles (Weaver, 2010). √ The key term learning style can be
described as the preferential mode a learner adopts when gain knowledge or skills (Honey, 2006).
There are a number of different versions of models and frameworks that can be used to help a student
nurse to identify their own personal learning needs (Sherwin Stevenson, 2011).√ These include Kolb s
(1984) Experiential Learning Cycle, Gibbs Reflective Cycle (Gibbs, 1988), and Johns and Carper s
model of structured reflection (Johns, 2009). √By using these tools a student nurse can identify their
learning needs and may consider it beneficial for the student to undertake further methods of analysis
such as Honey s (2006) The Learning Styles Questionnaire which is based on Honey and Mumford s
Learning Inventory (Honey, 1982). The Honey and Mumford inventory is a compilation of
descriptions used to categorise learners based upon behaviours and attitudes. These categories include
activist; reflector; theorist; and pragmatist (Honey, 2006). √ An understanding of learning

The Role Of Children In Goodnight Mister Tom, By Michelle...
Children look up to parents as their role models and influencers, however sometimes they do not
fulfill these roles. Goodnight Mister Tom is a novel set in England in 1939 at the start of World War 2.
The author, Michelle Magorian, tells a story through this world event about a young child who is
evacuated to the country at the anticipation of the war. The child, William Beech, is sent away by his
abusive mother in London to the small country town of Little Weirwold to live with a stranger, Tom
Oakley. Magorian uses this to demonstrate the impact of the behaviour of parental figures on a
growing child. This is explored through the characteristics of Mrs Beech and Mr Tom, how they are
compared and contrasted and the effects of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The baby was described as smelly and she had tape on her mouth to stop her from trying to get
attention as Mrs Beech claimed that the baby also needed to learn discipline. She also has a warped
view of Will and the kind of person he is, shown when he brings home gifts from Little Weirwold and
she accuses him of begging for it or stealing it. She also accuses Will of being full of sin although it is
obvious that he is polite and kind to others. When Will came back from the country healthier and more
confident than she remembered, she believed that she had to silence him into obedience and was
scared that he had threatened her authority . We can see that she is very insecure about her role in
society and as a mother. Mrs Beech is a bad parent is clearly unfit for bringing up children.
Tom Oakley is a kind man who cares for and loves Will and is a positive role model for him. He is a
healthy, strong old man who lives in the country town of Little Weirwold. The description of Tom s
physical appearance already tells us that he can take care of himself and is probably more reliable as a
parent figure. William Beech ends up being placed in his care when he is evacuated from London.
Tom lives in a graveyard near a church, and is only asked to care for Will because of this. It is
revealed that Tom lives where he does because his dead wife and child are buried there and he has a
hard time letting go of them. Ironically, his child was also called William. Mr Tom

Comparing Martin Luther And King Henry VIII
The two individuals who changed Global history were both Martin Luther and Henry VIII, during
their time in history. Martin Luther was a monk of the Roman Catholic Church and a religious leader
in his spiritual works, such as the 95 Theses, availability of the translated Bible and, made some of the
Catholic Church followers think for themselves. Also, Martin Luther went as far as challenging the
Pope of the Catholic Church to his supreme authority. [The pope cannot remit any guilt, except by
declaring and showing that it has been remitted by God; or, to be sure, by remitting guilt in cases
reserved to his judgment. If his right to grant remission in these cases were disregarded, the guilt
would certainly remain unforgiven] Despising the Pope s disapproval, Martin Luther went on to
telling and preaching his true message. Martin Luther didn t accept the Catholic Church Indulgences,

Henry made the religion, named Church of England, which he made himself head of the religion. King
Henry VIII only made this new religion to get away from the strict rules of the Catholic Church, for
his own liking. In his new religion he could divorce Catherine and remarry Anne without the Pope s
authority or permission, going against the Catholic religion.
He made a rule that anyone who denies his authority will be dying. Everyone followed King Henry

Exploring the Reasons for the Underachievement of Ethnic Minority Children
Rational ========
Every child goes through the same education system, every child works through the same curriculum
2000 set by New Labour and every child sits the same exams up to the age of 16. So why are there
marked differences in educational attainment for ethnic minority students?
My main aim is to find out if racism is the main cause of the gap between different ethnic groups in
education, which can lead to some ethnic minority groups being over represented in low status, low
paid jobs.
My investigation will look at the different explanations that sociologists have used over the years to
explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet I can do a comparison with the rest of Britain by using other sociologist research on the topic, and
see how much mine and theirs vary.
I have picked this topic because I feel that education underachievement is a major problem and so is
institutional racism. This issue has gained more attention after the racially motivated murder of
Stephen Lawrence and the Mancpherson report that followed. I also believe that everyone should be
given an equal chance to do his or her best, so it is important to me to find out if racism is the real
reason for ethnic minority students underachievement.
METHODOLOGY
An important issue in my research is how am I going to go about it? The main issue is to find out the
best method that suits the nature of my research. Along side this it is important to know how practical
and ethical my research is.
I have decided to use unstructured interviews for my research. This is due to several reasons, one
being the constraints of the area I live in. Norwich generally has small amounts of ethnic diversity, and
my school shows this, as the majority of students are White. If this wasn t so then I would of used
questionnaires and observation methods. Therefore I have decided that my best opinion is to talk to
people who deal with such matters on a day to day

Essay about The Affordable Care Act
It takes very little to disrupt the slow but steady healing progress our nation has undertaken in the
wake of the financial crisis of seven years ago. As President Barack Obama once said, by signing the
Affordable Care Act into law, everyone should have some basic security when it comes to their health
care (Stolberg, Sheryl Gay) . Something as influential as a universal health care bill is no exception to
delicate recovery the United States economy has undertaken over the past several years. As in the

How to Understand Women
How many times have you thought to yourself Oh man, women are crazy; how will I ever understand
them? With a few simple suggestions, your perspective on the notoriously complicated world of
women will change completely. Rather than continuing to be confused, you will soon realize that
women, people who may be thought to be initially confusing, are actually understandable. In order to
understand women, all that it takes is a little patience, communication, and sensitivity on the other s
behalf. By reminding yourself of the need for each skill, you will be speaking the language of women
in no time!
In the beginning, it may be difficult to understand said language because some claims that women
make have an alternate meaning. Although they may say one thing, they may actually mean another.
Some claims may be deceiving, and it is for this very reason that patience is key to a healthy
understanding of women. While men are known to make direct requests, women are infamous for
hinting rather than outright stating. If a woman is clearly upset but responds with something like, I m
fine, then you know she is almost never actually fine. One way to detect that this response may be
deceiving is to observe body language clues such as crossed arms, pursed lips, an impassive voice, a
lack of eye contact, or flared nostrils. Michele Zinman, a 44 year old marriage counselor, said, Many
arguments between couples stem from misunderstanding because many women expect

The Issue Concerning Child Soldiers During The Democratic...
Maeve Hiehle
The issue concerning child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a very widespread
problem throughout the country as a whole. Child soldiers in all countries are a problem because of
the inhumane treatment of children, but the situation is especially bad in the Democratic Republic of
the Congo because of the amount of it and the lack of action taken to stop it. Though the government
has signed contracts of sorts stating they will take action against this unlawful behavior, they have
barely done anything. As a result of this, children are still being recruited and killed because of their
affiliation with armed groups. In certain cases the government and its organizations are being held
responsible for forms of child soldiering. Child soldiering in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is
a problem that must be stopped soon.
Child soldiering is ultimately stated as follows: hundreds of children across the Democratic Republic
of Congo are being forced into military and other groups as child soldiers. In 2015, 488 children were
documented by the UN as new recruits. Out of these 488 new recruits, 26 were girls and 30 percent
were under the age of 15 (Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for children
and armed conflict, 2016). Children are pulled in for multiple reasons, and then rise up to ranks of
commanders and sergeants at young ages. For example, one boy was ordered into the military at age
seven by his uncle, a powerful

Negative Events Of The 1980s
Although the 1980s was a wonderful decade, there were some negative events. The 1980s contained
many assassinations, such as John Lennon, Anwar Sadat, Marvin Gaye, Indira Gandhi, and Olof
Palme
John Lennon, an English musician, was a member of the legendary rock band, the Beatles. Mark
David Chapman assassinated him at only forty years old. He shot two bullets in the left side of Lennon
s back and another two bullets in his left shoulder with a Charter Arms .38 caliber pistol. He was
declared dead when he arrived at Roosevelt Hospital. The murder took place in the archway of The
Dakota in New York, New York on December 8,1980. On December 10, 1980 he was cremated at the

which was identified as fatal. A subsequent shot wounded his Olof s wife, Lisbet Palme. The
assassination happened in Stockholm, Sweden when he and his wife were walking home from the

Traditional Idea Of Homeschooling
Education is the cornerstone upon which modern civilization has been built. However, is the
traditional model of education one that relies on memorization and recitation the most effective way to
learn? Indeed, in order to get a full time job and establish a fruitful career in almost any industry, one
must have a robust and impressive educational background. This typically consists of holding degrees
from prestigious universities, normally achieved by one s ability to test well. However, an alternative
method of education known as homeschooling has long existed as a viable way to teach today s youth.
While homeschooling is not necessarily superior to traditional institutions of learning, it promotes a
crucial and revolutionary idea: that learning should not be limited to the confines of the classroom.
Originally, schools in America were built by the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, who
declared that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freire argued that the traditional models of learning turned students into objects, imbibing stale
information from their instructors only to regurgitate it back on exams. This, to Freire, was not true
learning, but was more so training students to think in a way that inhibited lateral thinking and
inquisitiveness. Similarly, Wallace asserted in his famous This is Water speech that humans had to
work hard to reprogram their default settings, or how they parochially looked at the world. The logic
both men operate under seems simple enough: let students learn to think for themselves and develop
skills of cogitation that will make them better human beings. Although their suggestions seem
intuitive, I have found that schools even ones that believe in lateral and independent thinking do not
always teach students by these

Handedness Experiment
What I learned in this handedness experiment, was how many people are not left handed. People s
family s in the class had 14% lefties. I didn t think lefties were that rare. There was a higher
percentage of 22% in my class. What surprised me the most was that there was on average 9% lefties
at our school. We had only collected 525 people which isn t even half, but it gives you a rough idea.
There was an average of 10% lefties and 90% righties. I learned that different cultures have different
results as well. Nothing too shocking though, my results turned out similar to what I thought they were
going to. What was cool to see was that some cultures had a little higher than 10% of lefties. For
example, I did some research and Renaissance/ Realism

Understanding Stress During Puberty
In this experiment, the author s focused on understanding stress during puberty and the sex specific
differences of the effects on humans through rat models. As we go through puberty, both male and
females have increased levels of sex steroid hormones. In females this causes levels of cortisol to
increase, as well as the probability of developing a mood disorder relating to stress. Past studies have
shown that this is because of the plasticity of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) axis and
the areas of the brain the regulate mood, such as the amygdala. They supported their previous claim
with an experiment that was done on rats where they were subjected to stressful events, known as
juvenile social subjugation (JSS), and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Autoradiography helps to visualize the CRF1 and CRF2 receptors. The sections of the brain were
incubated for 2 hours in a binding chamber that contained 500 mM Astressin 2B and 500mM CP

visualize the CRF2 receptors. The control group of sections of brains was incubated for 2 hours in
0.2nm 125I Sanguine. They were washed then exposed to Kodak Biomax MR film. Next, they
calculated the receptor binding density and background measurements of the lateral dorsal thalamus
and the dorsal striatum. They created heat maps of the brain sections, whose densitometry
measurements were close to the mean, using Photoshop. They performed two way ANOVA and post
hoc Student s t tests. They compared between subject with sex and age, as well as the effects of age
within each sex and sex within each age.
Results
Overall the Basolateral Nucleus of the Amgdala (BLA) was the primary location for the expression of
CRF1 binding and the MePV was the secondary location for binding. CRF2 expression in the MePV
was not as intense as that of the CRF1 receptor. The MePD had less expression of both types of CRF
receptor and no expression in the CeA. They found intense expression of CRF2 receptor in the cortical
nucleus of the amygdala and choroid plexus.
Each hemisphere of the brain had no significant difference in the binding of both types of CRF
receptors. Figure 2 shows that in the binding

If I Wanted A Real World Experience As A Planner
If I wanted a real world experience as a planner, then I certainly received it at this hearing. I can
honestly say that I don t envy the Board of Zoning Adjustments. This was the most difficult and
complicated hearing we had in class and I believe everyone rose to the challenge. The amount of prep
work required for all parties greatly increased with this hearing due to the scientific nature of the
proposal. All groups were sufficiently prepared and performed exceptionally well considering the
difficulty of the case. I am speaking as a BOZA member, but I believe the decision for a continuance
was the best outcome, taking into account how the hearing played out. The applicants had a tough job.
I commend them for meeting with the community and agreeing to change the chemicals used in the
process to help ease safety concerns. This created a more open dialogue between the community and
the applicant; it allowed the community to truly have their voices heard with an actual response. This
did, however, create a substantial amount of work for the applicant. Changing the process required a
major increase in research in a complicated subject matter. Having to focus so much on explaining the
changed process seemed to consume the vast majority of their presentation. While correctly explaining
it was important, they could ve focused more on exactly how they were meeting the Land
Development Code, Cornerstone 2020 s Goals, and the Ohio River Master Plan. As board members

The Is Rooted Behind The Beginning Legal Conclusion Of...
The term stepparent is rooted behind the beginning legal conclusion of marriage. Since this term has
been coined there have been many stipulations of the legal rights and financial responsibilities that the
stepparents should posses. Due to the increase divorce in the U.S., the amount of remarriages is
increasing. The conversation of stepparent s rights is very common. The national Step Family
Resource Center notes that if the tendency of increasing number of people becoming step parents
continues, persons in stepfamilies may make up as much as half of the population by the next century
(Pasley, Dollahite, Ihinger Tallman, 1993). With the increasing number of stepparent families, this
topic is important due to it affecting many families ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the biggest challenges are those created by the government. The stepparent according to the
government is considered an intimate outsider whom plays the role of a parent but is not given the
same legal rights as biological parents. Not allowing a stepparent financial and legal rights for the
stepchild is limiting their rights as parents. When two people decide to get married there should be
certain rights given to the stepparent. As far as financial support goes with stepparent to step child the
economic support that the stepchild receives from their stepparent is very important for their well
being. As a stepparent it should be assumed that they have as much responsibility over the children
like biological parent in whom they married. The fact that the stepparent doesn t have legal rights over
the stepchild can be potentially devastating if a child experience the death of their primary caretaker.
An example of this scenario would be the Henikson v. Gable, 1987 case. The trial judge in this case
failed to precisely rule whether the children had an established custodial environment with their
biological father. The mother died leaving the stepdad whom was the child devoted father of his
stepchildren (Cherlin, 2013). Due to the fact that the stepfather is not given legal rights over the
children he had no control when his stepchildren were taken from him and sent to live with their
biological father. The biological father was not

Coy Wolf Research Paper
Hybridization of species in the wild is both rare and often unsuccessful. The product of hybrids are
most often sterile and unfit to survive in the natural world. North America may claim one of the most
successful hybrids of this century. The newly discovered coy wolf is a mix between two canis species,
the western coyote and the eastern wolf. This hybrid is also called the eastern coyote or northeastern
coyote. The hybrid did not arise spontaneously. Human s set up the perfect scenario to create a hybrid
from species that would otherwise be allopatric. Humans highly influenced the formation and success
of this hybrid. Without human destruction of American ecosystems, the coy wolf may have never

In the eastern United States, the white tailed deer is so abundant that it is destroying broad amounts of
herbivory. Even after legal hunting season, deer are abundant even near cities. As the coyote migrated
east, the largest and most abundant food source became the white tailed deer. The western coyote
weighs on average 20 40 lbs while the white tailed deer can weight up to 140 lbs. To take advantage of
this food source, a genetic change must occur in the coyote population. With the addition of wolf
DNA, weight and muscling is added to the slim physique of the coyote. The larger body size of
northeastern coyotes is widely accepted as advantageous for hunting large prey (Kirchman 92). The
coyotes that bred with wolves became genetically favorable over coyotes of western decent. The
northeastern coyote or coy wolf became the apex predator of the eastern region over that of the wolf
or western coyote because it is able to live off of the most abundant food source of the region. Wolves
can live off of deer also, but they are not as adaptable to industrialized areas as the coy wolf. This
hybrid can also live off of more than just deer, but almost any small game in the eastern region. They
can also scavenge from the scraps of humans such as garbage and pet

Analysis of the Setting in August Wilson s Fences
American Lit: Choices and Voices
Helen Li
October 18, 2017
The Setting in Fences
Fences written by August Wilson was focused on the life of Troy Maxson, an African American full of
harshness towards the society because of the barriers he had to face in life back in the 1950 s. The title
Fences reflects the book s story and overall symbol. The setting is used as a frame to the message and
metaphorical meaning of the book. Troy struggles to define his rights and responsibilities as a
husband, brother, worker, friend and father through the complex symbolism of the settings.
August Wilson uses the symbol of a fence in this book on different occasions. Throughout the play,
Troy neglects building fences that Rose has reminded him to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Troy is not invisible, but he builds himself up to be. He kept saying that he could always hit a
homerun off when playing a game when he was younger. Troy uses the idea of baseball to almost
taunt death, daring the evil to fight him. Troy is characterized as seeing himself as unhuman and
extremely powerful. Troy don t want to let death come with ease, and always uses his former baseball
skill to try to show that he can beat death. Troy relates most of the components in his life to baseball,
because he felt baseball makes him more comfortable. This is also the reason why he put the setting of
baseball in the back of the yard, it is to remind him that he is strong enough to protect the family and
himself, and reinforces his ego using his skill with baseball. The setting of a rundown house in a poor
neighborhood gives the impression of their struggle to survive as African Americans. The shabbiness
of the exterior suggests their low social status. A relatively recent addition to the house and running its
full width, the porch lacks congruence. It is a sturdy porch with a flat roof. One or two chairs of
dubious value sit at one end where the kitchen window opens on to the porch. An old fashioned ice
box stands silent guard at the opposite end (Wilson, setting description). While the newly added porch
may represent an attempt to

Capital One s Marketing Strategy

achieved this through a complex marketing strategy, This strategy has propelled them forward,
allowing for them to conquer feats unlike any other companies. Although this strategy has faced both
its ups and downs, meaning it has undergone a multitude of changes throughout the years. Capital One
s marketing strategy has created both successes and failures, but with it s growing nature will continue
to strive for excellence, as shown from previous accounts.
Richard Fairbank and Nigel Morris, both diligent entrepreneurs, started laying the bricks for their
eventual successful company, Capital One, in the late 1980 s. They both worked in the Virginia based
Signet Bank . Fairbank started noticing trends in the financial industry that he felt Signet was missing
out on. These opportunities were in the credit card industry. He, as well as all of Signet Bank knew
that the credit card industry was very risky, but Fairbank was ready to take a chance in this, what can
be, highly profitable field.
Signet Bank almost had to cut the credit card venture do to losses in profit from some real estate
problems during the first couple years of the credit card launch, but being the idea champions they
were, Fairbank, along with his partner Morris, both put their heads together and saved the day for
Signet Bank. They made their credit card more personal and gave out highly competitive

Women s Role For Literature
Women s role in Literature The role of women in the society is always questioned and for centuries,
they have struggled to find their place in a world that is predominantly male oriented. The treatment of
women was extremely negative; they were expected to stay home and fulfill domestic duties.
Literature of that time embodies and mirrors social issues of women in society (Lecture on the
Puritans). But, slowly and gradually, situation being changed: During the first half of the 19th century,
women s roles in society evolved in the areas of occupational, moral, and social reform. Through
efforts such as factory movements, social reform, and women s rights, their aims were realized and
foundations for further reform were established (Lauter 1406). Feminist poets like Emily Dickinson
and Anne Bradstreet talked substantially about feminism in different lights in the past two centuries.
They were very vocal and assertive about their rights and the rights for women in general. While they
might have been successful at making a good attempt to obliterate gender biases but still there are lot
of disparities between the two genders. Nevertheless, their poetry reflects a deep angst. Anne
Bradstreet, an eighteen year old educated upper class English woman, arrived in Salem in 1630
(Cowell 418). Two hundred years after Bradstreet s arrival in America, in 1830, in a town about a
hundred miles from Salem: Amherst, Emily Dickinson was born to a prominent local family that had

Mao Zedong Accomplishments
Mao Zedong has been credited as one of the most important figures during the Cold War, because he
led many influential events and overall led China through the Cold War. He had many dreams and
wishes for China, involving communism and changes for the better of the nation. He knew how to
please his country and pinpoint different areas where China needed improvement, and carry out plans
that would improve China as a whole. Mao Zedong was one of China s most courageous and powerful
leaders, and this was shown through his background of leadership in the Chinese Civil War and the
Long March, and how he maintained his visions and aspirations for China.
Mao Zedong s interest in communism started in 1918, when he began his teaching career. Whilst
teaching, Zedong read Marxism, a book written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels that talks about a

This boost in confidence influenced Mao Zedong to continue his leadership and interest in
communism and politics. He soon founded the People s Republic of China, and announced the
creation of a people s democratic dictatorship . He thought that socialism would eventually triumph
over all other ideologies, and his plans and vivid ideas for China reflect how creative but realistic he is
as a leader, and this benefited China throughout the Cold War. Some examples of ambitious plans that
carried through include the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, where Zedong
encouraged change in order to further improve and benefit the country as a whole. Although the Great
Leap Forward resulted in a famine and the death of 40 million people, Mao made a comeback with the
Cultural Revolution. He wanted to transform China in order to be able to compete with other
industrialized nations, and this shows Zedong s competitive yet committed nature as a

Roald Dahl, a British novelist, offered his readers a classical short story, Lamb to the Slaughter, with
the tale of betrayal, justice, injustice and passivity. Two main characters of the story are detective Mr.
Patrick and Ms. Patrick who live in small town. Roald Dahl tries to reflect human nature of perversity,
and cruelty through the Lamb to the Slaughter . As the story progresses, theme of love, passion,
betrayal and injustice grow stronger. Author smartly shows us how an idle wife becomes a smart

Thus, Author greatly described 1960s housewife as loving, passionate and energetic for her husband.
Author also surprises readers, when he introduces conflict between a couple that used to love each
other deeply. Diverting the story from love to betrayal, author develops an irony. In the story, reader
sees two examples of betrayal. Ms. Maloney, while talking with her tired husband, finds out her
husband no longer want to keep their marriage. Without giving any kind of reason, Patrick betrays her
wife with a decision of breaking marriage. Mary shocks, when her husband, boldly, says, This is going
to be bit shock of you (P. Maloney) Author creates a total opposite picture of Patrick by describing
him as a husband who used to give her wife surprises; he is now giving her shock in the middle of her
pregnancy. Mary, who was previously shown as anxiety less (Dahl), with a slow smiling air (Dahl)
and curiously tranquil (Dahl), had began to get upset and now inculcate her eye with a bewildered

  • 5. Background Facts About We Are Acting For Robert Joyce Essay BACKGROUND FACTS: We are acting for Robert Joyce, who has two problems regarding different issues. The first problem is in relation to his company, Joyce Holdings Ltd. His company was granted a commercial lease, whereby Mr Joyce acted as a guarantor and guaranteed to take on a new lease of the premises if the company became insolvent. The company went into administration early this year. The administrators have vacated the property and ceased to take responsibility or pay rent to the landlord. They have returned the keys and surrendered the lease for no payment. The landlord has secured the premises and marketed it receiving no interest. The landlord is now requiring Mr Joyce to take a new lease of the premises under his guarantee. The second problem concerns his freehold house in Peterborough. He wishes to let this out to foreign workers (principally but not exclusively) from Poland. He is not using a letting agent as he has his own source in Poland. He is aware of the legislative requirements up until the end of 2015 and is unaware of any changes in 2016. PROBLEM: Mr Joyce is the guarantor for his company and has a commercial lease. He made an agreement stating that he will take a new lease of the premises if the company became insolvent. A new chain could provide McDonalds with some competition, but with McDonalds place in the market we believe the chances of that occurring are low. Supplier power will remain the same (1.5) as new suppliers and cheaper methods of supply are likely over the next few years. The buyer power will also remain low (1.5) as we do not foresee any changes in McDonalds already cheap prices. We do believe the threat of substitutes will rise (4.5). There is heavy pressure on healthy foods and we only believe that will rise. Healthy options will be advertised more and people will continue to push healthier eating. The rivalry of the industry will remain high (4.5). This will rise as the threat of new companies and new companies trying to be healthier than the competition. McDonalds is everywhere, and will remain so over the next few years, pushing its overall advantages even higher. The ROIC is used to assess McDonalds efficiency at allocating the capital under their control to profitable investments. Additionally we can examine the ROIC to see how McDonalds is doing compared to the industry. Over the companies past fiscal year, McDonalds had an ROIC of 21.49% and a WACC of 6.51%. They must have a high school diploma, pass a short paper and pencil test that they must score at least a 70 on and have a valid driver s license if they are applying for the position of a driver. Tim was notified recently that 2 equal employment complaints had been filed against him and his firm. The complaints are from a woman that alleges the test does not measure a person s ability to drive and is not a valid predictor of job success and the other is from a minority man that alleges that a high school diploma requirement is not related to his ability to do that particular job and that it unfairly discriminates against minorities as a whole. ... Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 all prohibit the use of discriminatory employment tests and selection procedures. A fair selection process consists of judging people on their ability to do the job and not on the basis of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, genetic information or disability. Since Tim is the owner of the company he has the right to use any legal hiring methods he chooses to find the best person(s) for the job and the requirements are defined by him. The criteria are said to be applied to all applicants and not just a specific group of people and all applicants are held to the same hiring standard. To further evaluate the selection procedure I would need for Tim to provide information to help show that no discrimination has taken place and that it truly is standard for all applicants. Tim would need to submit copies of policies he has in place and provide files of employees for review of the test scores and ratings when it came to the selection process. Interviews would need to be conducted with randomly selected employees to provide first hand witness account to what goes on in the office and confidentiality needs to be maintained so that no retaliation ... In both Virginia Woolf s To the Lighthouse and Forster s Howards End, most of the characters are devoid of any social conscience until circumstances beyond their control force them to realize that being morally responsible to one another is the key to happiness. Only when this connection is made can each person realize their true potential for personal growth. First, in To the Lighthouse, Mr. Ramsey is constantly portrayed as a self absorbed man who thinks of what he could have been and how people perceive him. Mr. Bankes thinks about Mr. Ramsay, Could one help noticing that habits grew on him? Eccentricities, weaknesses perhaps? It was astonishing that a man of his intellect could stoop so low as he did but that was too harsh a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only by helping others does Mrs. Ramsay enjoy life. On the other hand, Lily Briscoe says about herself, there was her father; her home; even, had she dared to say it, her painting.... she liked to be alone; she liked to be herself; she was not made for that... her dear Lily, her little Brisk, was a fool (53). Lily constantly compared herself to Mrs. Ramsay as well as others and fell short of who she felt that she should have already become. But Lily Briscoe is a dreamer and a lazy person who would rather complain about her life than actually do something about it. However, after finding out that she was dying, she says to herself, For now she need not think about anybody. She could be herself, by herself. And that was what now she often felt the need of to think; well, not even to think. To be silent; to be alone... she became the thing she looked at that light, for example (65,66). Once she reveals to her husband that she is dying her entire purpose for living changes. She becomes the lighthouse to her family lighting their way to become to each other what she had been to them. For instance, after they return to the house, Lily relates that Mr. Ramsay had said to Mrs. Beckwith, the housekeeper, You will find us much changed and none of them had spoken; but had sat there as if ... • 9. Persuasive Essay About Yosemite JAMES O DONNELL Funny thing about camping in Yosemite for years with my family. Every time we invited a family to camp with us, they all responded while sitting around the camp fire, with the same statement. There are no bears in Yosemite ! Some how in their own minds they seemed to think their statement would keep them away. Or they wanted reassurance from us there weren t any. We have had several encounters with them in our camp, but the Rangers have mostly contained them. Trouble is, what Yosemite are you talking about? Yosemite Valley where most of the camping is, or Yosemite National Park. In this particular situation, the wife was very skeptical of bears being there. To the point of being down right rude, and snickering at the thought of them. However once in the while, the Gods will just smile down upon us. And They did so! After all Yosemite IS A WILDERNESS! Our families hiked up to the top of Nevada Falls and there we sat down to picnic, near this beautiful Falls. We broke out our box lunches, opened our soda s. A few minutes into enjoying our food, I looked up about ten feet behind the group and above the rest of the party. Here comes a Mother black bear over the rise with her baby cub. Seeing this instant trouble, I told every one to drop their food and back away. The Mother herself looked only to be not more than five or six years old. And to quote my girls the cub was adorable. We all backed away and watched the mother sort through our lunch, and decide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Analysis Of Paulo Coelho s Journey In The Alchemist As Drake, a three time grammy winning rapper, said in his high school graduation speech, Sometimes it s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination. These journeys can be hard, and in The Alchemist Santiago learns that his journey taught him a lot of the values that shape his personality. Paulo Coelho represents the everyman with Santiago, and uses his journey to communicate the moral of the novel which is the journey you follow while pursuing your Personal Legend is the treasure not the treasure itself, once again relating back to Drake s quote. In The Alchemist Paulo Coelho uses Santiago to illustrate that completing your Personal Legend is not easy, and you need to take wisdom from others, be willing to change, and persevere through hardships in order to succeed. Wisdom is usually passed on by someone who is elder to you, and wisdom allows you to have a larger perspective on precise situations. At the beginning of the novel, the king introduces Santiago to the idea of discovering [one s] Personal Legend, but at the time Santiago, didn t know what a person s Personal Legend was. (23) Paulo Coelho included this detail in the book to show the connection between wisdom from others and pursuing our dreams. Without the king s input on Santiago s recurring dreams, Santiago wouldn t have known what his Personal Legend was or what a Personal Legend is for that matter. This connects to us because in the real world many thrive off of others. For example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Learning Styles and Student Nurses Learning can be defined as the process of acquiring knowledge or skills through experience, independent or collaborative study, and teachings under guided instruction (Fisher Frey, 2008). One of the most efficient processes of learning that promotes progressive knowledge and skill development is a process that focusses on learning styles (Weaver, 2010). √ The key term learning style can be described as the preferential mode a learner adopts when gain knowledge or skills (Honey, 2006). There are a number of different versions of models and frameworks that can be used to help a student nurse to identify their own personal learning needs (Sherwin Stevenson, 2011).√ These include Kolb s (1984) Experiential Learning Cycle, Gibbs Reflective Cycle (Gibbs, 1988), and Johns and Carper s model of structured reflection (Johns, 2009). √By using these tools a student nurse can identify their learning needs and may consider it beneficial for the student to undertake further methods of analysis such as Honey s (2006) The Learning Styles Questionnaire which is based on Honey and Mumford s Learning Inventory (Honey, 1982). • 15. The Role Of Children In Goodnight Mister Tom, By Michelle... Children look up to parents as their role models and influencers, however sometimes they do not fulfill these roles. Goodnight Mister Tom is a novel set in England in 1939 at the start of World War 2. The author, Michelle Magorian, tells a story through this world event about a young child who is evacuated to the country at the anticipation of the war. The child, William Beech, is sent away by his abusive mother in London to the small country town of Little Weirwold to live with a stranger, Tom Oakley. She also accuses Will of being full of sin although it is obvious that he is polite and kind to others. When Will came back from the country healthier and more confident than she remembered, she believed that she had to silence him into obedience and was scared that he had threatened her authority . We can see that she is very insecure about her role in society and as a mother. Mrs Beech is a bad parent is clearly unfit for bringing up children. Tom Oakley is a kind man who cares for and loves Will and is a positive role model for him. He is a healthy, strong old man who lives in the country town of Little Weirwold. The description of Tom s physical appearance already tells us that he can take care of himself and is probably more reliable as a parent figure. William Beech ends up being placed in his care when he is evacuated from London. Tom lives in a graveyard near a church, and is only asked to care for Will because of this. It is revealed that Tom lives where he does because his dead wife and child are buried there and he has a hard time letting go of them. Ironically, his child was also called William. Mr Tom ... With a few simple suggestions, your perspective on the notoriously complicated world of women will change completely. Rather than continuing to be confused, you will soon realize that women, people who may be thought to be initially confusing, are actually understandable. In order to understand women, all that it takes is a little patience, communication, and sensitivity on the other s behalf. By reminding yourself of the need for each skill, you will be speaking the language of women in no time! In the beginning, it may be difficult to understand said language because some claims that women make have an alternate meaning. Although they may say one thing, they may actually mean another. Some claims may be deceiving, and it is for this very reason that patience is key to a healthy understanding of women. While men are known to make direct requests, women are infamous for hinting rather than outright stating. If a woman is clearly upset but responds with something like, I m fine, then you know she is almost never actually fine. Maeve Hiehle The issue concerning child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a very widespread problem throughout the country as a whole. Child soldiers in all countries are a problem because of the inhumane treatment of children, but the situation is especially bad in the Democratic Republic of the Congo because of the amount of it and the lack of action taken to stop it. Though the government has signed contracts of sorts stating they will take action against this unlawful behavior, they have barely done anything. As a result of this, children are still being recruited and killed because of their affiliation with armed groups. In certain cases the government and its organizations are being held responsible for forms of child soldiering. Child soldiering in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a problem that must be stopped soon. Child soldiering is ultimately stated as follows: hundreds of children across the Democratic Republic of Congo are being forced into military and other groups as child soldiers. In 2015, 488 children were documented by the UN as new recruits. Out of these 488 new recruits, 26 were girls and 30 percent were under the age of 15 (Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for children and armed conflict, 2016). When two people decide to get married there should be certain rights given to the stepparent. Troy don t want to let death come with ease, and always uses his former baseball skill to try to show that he can beat death.
