Intellectual Progress Of Mankind By Martin Luther King Jr.
Intellectual Progress of Mankind
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...every step toward the goal of justice requires
sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals
Martin Luther King, Jr. Intellectual progress of mankind is the progression towards discovering the
questions about curiosity on why something is what it is or what makes something work the way that
it does. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and supporting scientific and
theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular issues of study. this can be
defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of mankind resulting from one
s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to conceptualize. This helps
humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make advancements on daily basis in relation to
his life. Three main subject leads toward Intellectual Progress of mankind, philosophies, ideologies,
and theories which this paper examines as related themes that often intersect in educational ideas
(Gutek, 2004). Philosophy falls somewhere between the arts and sciences. On the one hand, it offers
idiosyncratic worldviews that may be too disparate to compare. It is not surprising, then, that the
question Is philosophy progressive? is hardly ever raised. From one viewpoint, it offers quirky
perspectives that might be excessively unique, making

Dorothea Dix Essay
Dorothea Dix One of the Great Women of the 1800s
Once in a while a truly exceptional person has made a mark on the growth of mankind. Dorothea Dix
was an exceptional woman. She wrote children s books, she was a school teacher, and she helped
reform in prisons. Some of her most notable work was in the field of making mental health institutions
a better place for the patients that lived in them. Dorothea Dix gave a great deal to humanity and her
achievements are still being felt today, especially in the treatment of those with mental disabilities.
Dix started out though with very humble beginnings. Dorothea Dix was born in Hampden, Maine in
1802. Her mother was not very mentally stable and her dad was an abusive alcoholic. The Dix moved

Dix remained there for a couple of years; she seemed to become well adjusted so she returned back to
Boston to a new beginning in her life.
When she returned to Boston she asked her grandmother if she could start another school in her
grandmother s dining room. After a bit of opposition, her grandmother agreed. There, she taught until
1835, but she became sick with tuberculosis and also exhaustion had set in. Because of her illness she
closed the school and then traveled to Europe to recuperate, under the advice of her friends and family.
She again returns to Boston, months later, but this time she found herself with a very large inheritance
that would allow her to love comfortably for the rest of her life.4
She realized that she was not the type to sit back and do nothing, so she accepted an invitation to teach
at a Sunday school at the East Cambridge Jail in East Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1941. That s when
her quest began. She was shocked when she saw that mentally ill patients were being put into the jails,
and even more appalled at the conditions they were put in. This is where Dix helped humanity in a
giant way. She made it public about the ways that those with mental and physical handicaps were
being treated. Dix wrote, Men need knowledge in order to overpower their passions and master their
prejudices. 5
She first appealed to the local courts and though the conditions were mildly improved she was not
satisfied with the outcomes. She traveled

Safely Inserting Contact Lens
Safely Inserting and Removing a Contact
Inserting a contact lens. A skill I never thought I would need until the day arrived for an annual doctor
s appointment and my doctor told me I should go see an ophthalmologist (an eye doctor). Needless to
say, after a visit with the burly eye doctor, I had gotten glasses and was still refusing to get contacts. I
knew I probably needed them, but the thought of sticking my finger in my eye to but in a rubbery
circular thing gave me the chills. It just wasn t natural. And I went a long time with just my black
rimmed glasses, that is, until soccer season came around. I was fine. I could see... couldn t I? That was

cause bacteria to grow in your eye resulting in certain funguses to grow which can ultimately cause
blindness. Even going to the beach with contacts can be bad. Sand particles can get under your contact
and scratch at your eye without you even noticing until it s too late and your eye is damaged,
sometimes beyond repair. Even sleeping in your cantact are a big no

A Brief Look at Climate Change
The global climate system is complex and its response to future anthropogenic greenhouse gases and
to climate change adaptation, is often poorly understood. Climate change is an area where modeling in
the framework of complex adaptive systems can improve our knowledge both with respect to the
internal structure and adaptive mechanisms of climate and our capacity for designing efficient climate
adaptation policies. Modeling of these systems includes a dynamic system consisting of transition
equations describing the evolution of state variables characterizing the natural system, such as CO2
concentrations in the upper and lower atmosphere and in the oceans, and state variables characterizing
the economic systems, such as physical capital and knowledge. The complex adaptive character of the
system implies that the dynamic system will be nonlinear and nonconvex, will allow for nonlinear
feedbacks and multiple basins of attraction, will evolve both in the temporal and spatial dimension,
and will be influenced by forward looking optimizing economic agents (Xepapadeas, 2010).
Moreover, any rational policy choice must consider the uncertainty about the magnitude and timing of
climate change s impact on economic productivity (Cai et al., 2013).
The majority of the literature, including the recent U.S. Government Interagency Working Group on
the Social Cost of Carbon (IWG, 2013) does not model the stochastic nature of the climate and
economic systems. Recent work, such as that of Cai

Purpose Statement I am J.E. Wheelington. I am currently a Special Education teacher, which is what I
planned and hoped I would be doing after receiving my degree from UM Booneville. It worked out
perfectly for me because that is how I started my career. I have been interested in earning a masters

chances of reaching my full potential within the teaching profession. I don t particularly want to be a

Harriet Tubman The American Abolitionist
Lesson Reading Assignments The lesson I was granted to teach is Harriet Tubman, the American
abolitionist, was born a slave at some time around bout the 1800s. The students were required to read
this encyclopedia entry and write a small summary, summarizing what they have learned and they had
to deliver their findings in a class demonstration. Lesson 1 what is the entry about is a question student
had to respond in their summaries. Next students had to make sure they read it by following Mrs.
Langley s directions before you read, decide what you will have to determine by interpreting the
questions that was created for you to do. Mrs. Langley s strategies are for pupils to learn and study
vocabulary first before reading. Also, look at the title of the entry, look at the headlines and get

She also asked me to ask students if they will look for pictures they will show students what the story
will be about as well this is a good strategy for English Language learners. Mrs. Langley wanted
students to commemorate what they learned and know roughly the topic because what they know will
help the students realize what they will read and already know. As for me I think that what went well
on this on class assignment is that students connect their previous knowledge with new knowledge
these our six grade students so they already recognize the narrative of Harriet Tubman but the
encyclopedia discussion was more different than merely learning. This discussed Mrs. Tubman
birthday city she lived in and how she became free about the story closed in some gaps students was

Lifespan Development And The Development Of Human And...
Lifespan is the period during which something is functional, so in humans, lifespan is the period from
birth and death. As humans, we break it down into different phases, this would include infants,
toddlers, preschooler, school age, adolescents, early adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood.
This shows that we are changing as we move as a society as the life expectancy increases and children
are aging differently. Most known as human development, which is the action of developing to
maturity. Human development is the study of these changes related to the physical, emotional,
cognitive, and social domains of an individual. Similar to human development, there are three types of
lifespan development, this including physical development which involves growth and changes in the
body and brain, the senses, motor skills and health and wellness. Cognitive wellness which involves
learning, attention, memory, language, thinking, and creativity. And lastly, the psychological
development which involves emotions, personality, and social relationships (White 326 334). When
thinking of development, individuals often consider the changes the human body goes through as
aging occurs. In the field of human services, it is important to recognize development throughout the
lifespan and how an individual s behavior can be impacted based on factors that occur from
conception to death. It also supports developmental change being impacted by biological,
physiological, and social aspects. A

Guatemalan Literature
Syriac literature accounts for 90% of the total Aramaic literature. The literature was written in the
Esṭrangelā (Classical) form. The earliest forms of Syriac literature were based in Edessa and were
written by pagans, agnostics, Jews, and Christians. The exact origins of these works were never found.
By the start of the third century the Old Testament had already been translated into Syriac from
Hebrew. Around the same time is when one of the earliest versions of the New Testament known as
the Diatessaron came into being. This work was used by the Syriac Church for two centuries until a
prominent bishop claimed that the author, Tatian was a heretic. This book consisted of the gospels of

Greek genocide. This event was not the first tragedy in Syriac history as Byzantine oppression,
slaughter at the hands of the Crusaders, and Mongol invasion occurred prior (The Syriac Orthodox
Church a Brief Overview, NP). The rise of nationalism among the Christian citizens of the Ottoman
Empire and the rise of the Young Turk government that preached a Turkey for the Turks was recipe for
a disaster. The Young Turk government staged a successful coup in 1913. Following the entrance of
the Ottoman Empire into World War I in November 1914 simultaneous genocides against Assyrians,
Armenians, and Greeks occurred along with the help of Kurdish tribes. Victims were plundered, raped,
deported, and massacred horrifically. The Assyrian genocide is treated slightly differently from that of
the Armenians as there were no specific orders to attack and deport Assyrians from Ottoman leaders
since they were not assisting the Russian Empire and did not desire their own nation state. The
genocide was carried out by local leaders and Kurdish tribes. In some cities the entire adult
populations were wiped out whereas in other cities such as Mardin only the male population was
killed and the widows and children were forced to leave on foot which caused many more deaths. The
deaths were not limited to just the Ottoman Empire as Assyrians in Persia were also slaughtered when
the Ottoman Empire invaded northwestern Persia (The Assyrian Genocide, 1914 to 1923 and 1933 up
to the Present, NP). The death toll was believed to be 300,000 Syriacs yet has only been recognized by
the Swedish and Armenian Parliaments (Centenary of 1915 Syriac (Sayfo) genocide, NP). As the

Rawls Vs Norzick s Theory Essay
1. What are some important common ground, () both theorists utilize in constructing and ultimately
defending their theories?
Some important common ground both theorists utilize in constructing and defending their theories are
that both talked about justice, liberty, and equality. Both Rawls and Norzick believe that justice,
liberty, and equality would make a better society. Both talked strongly about a just society.
Rawls and Norzick tried to figure out how to create a more just society. They also believed in moral
side constraint. Lastly, they both touched on property rights.

His second constraint states that they must be chosen behind a veil of ignorance. By placing the
parties behind a veil of ignorance, Rawls believes that the choice situation will nullify the effects of
specific contingencies that put men at odds. He also thinks it will tempt them to exploit social and
natural circumstances to their own advantage.
3. Norzick s entitlement theory of justice place the appeal (main argument) of the theory by looking at
two different beliefs/ behaviors in society to determine what is just. What are these two different
beliefs/behaviors? Please explain each. How do they apply to the concept of the minimal state
The entitlement theory of justice tells us that whatever arises from a just situation by just steps is itself
just. Norzick s two beliefs are absolute property ownership rights. His other belief is redistribution
rights.
Norzicks belief of property ownership rights is the right of ownership over oneself and over things in
the world. For example, in a class discussion, we talked about how if someone wanted to give their

False Superiority In Cinderella
Everything has a unique and individual purpose, whether it be philosophical conjectures, fantasy
stories with brilliant action packed scenes, or even silly children s movies that people disregard as
imaginary nonsense. Unsurprisingly, the story of Cinderella, written by the Grimm brothers, is not
excluded from the vast majority of objects that have a significant purpose and meaning behind them.
In the story Cinderella, numerous didactic lessons, meaningful morals, and thought provoking themes
are conveyed to the reader, including the concept of false superiority, the idea of what being kind
despite difficult circumstances may lead to, and the widely believed in notion of karma. To begin, the
tale of Cinderella s upbringing and the people surrounding her portray the concept of false superiority,
which is the idea that people think they are superior as a result of superficial characteristics when, in
reality, they are inferior in a myriad of ways. For instance, Cinderella s stepsisters exemplify false
superiority because even though they were beautiful with fair faces, they had evil and dark hearts
(page 1). Furthermore, when Cinderella stood up, the prince looked into her face, and he recognized
the beautiful girl who had danced with him (page 6). This quote depicts how societal standards for
beauty and
Clarno 2 superiority are not accurate measures of self worth, for Cinderella was unquestionably the
true beauty from the prince s perspective. Moving on,

How North Korea became a Cruel Country
How did North Korea become the cruel country that scorches both surrounding and distant nations
with its sternly severe socialist flame? Subjugated by Japan in 1910, North Korea was mercilessly
enslaved for thirty five years. Due to Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the United States
occupied the southern region of the Korean Peninsula while Soviet troops seized the north. As a result
communism spread like weeds. Sadly, North Korea s government, military, and economy were all by
shaped by the leftist views suppressed on them. The root of the problem was Kim Il Sung, the first
premier of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. At the urging of the United States, the United
Nations General Assembly established elections, introduced a constitution, and formed the Republic
of Korea in South Korea. The North Korean government evenly divides the tasks of leadership among
numerous officials as this obligation requires careful attention. In accordance with their constitution,
the head of government is the premier; Choe Yong rim presently occupies this position. Specifically
aiding the premier, three vice premiers and the cabinet, which is comprised of twenty eight ministers,
are next in power. The uppermost lawmaking body, the Supreme People s Assembly, elects the
majority of cabinet members. The minister of the People s Armed Forces is the sole exception. He

Sun Yat-Sen
Evaluate the importance of Sun Yixian s (Sun Yat sen s) role in bringing about the 1911 Revolution in
China.
Sun Yat sen s role in the 1911 revolution against the Qing dynasty was an indirect one. Sun Yat sen
was exiled in the United States during the events of the Wuchang Uprising of October 10th, 1911,
hearing about it through a newspaper publication in Denver, Colorado.[1] Many Historians view Sun s
accession as the provisional President of the Republic of China, directly following the revolution, as
due to his position as a compromise candidate (Bergere, Marie Clare, Sun Yat sen, 1994, p. 12). This
interpretation holds Sun Yat sen as a respected but unimportant figure in the revolution, serving as an
ideal compromise between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his nationalization theory, people would be deprived of the right to own land, but they could still
retain other rights over the land by permission of the state. Sun Yat sen s revolutionary ideas
extensively influenced formation of the New Army, responsible for the revolution of 1911. Through
his early revolutionary actions and a failed military coup in 1895, Sun Yat sen was exiled for sixteen
years, campaigning and raising monetary aid in Europe, the United States and in Japan. In Japan, Sun
Yat sen joined dissident Chinese groups, a pre cursor to the Tongmenghui, becoming their leader and
gaining a large amount of financial support from Japanese democratic revolutionary, Miyazaki Toten.
[6] Sun Yat Sen smuggled this financial aid into China through his supporters, directly financing
weapons and ammunitions, much of which was utilised in the revolution by the New Army.
Sun Yat sen s ideology remained flexible; this had a homogenising effect on the revolutionary factions
involved in the Wuchang rebellion and more widely, the Xinhai Revolution. Sun Yat sen s political
ideologies reflected their intended audience as much as his personal convictions. He presented himself
as a strident nationalist to the nationalists, as a socialist to the socialists and an anarchist to the
anarchists, declaring in 1898, the goal of the three principles of the people is to create socialism and

Wolf Gang
Wolf Gang; The Sheep in wolves clothing
What is the line between being civilized and tamed, against acting wild and savage? What separates
human intellect against animalistic nature? Humans have animalistic instincts, yet we fear it often
choosing to hide it calling it taboo or deeming it inappropriate to a civilized society. Famed
Psychologist Sigmund Freud once stated, The pleasure of satisfying a savage instinct, undomesticated
by the ego, is incomparably much more intense than the one of satisfying a tamed instinct (Freud, ?)
What Freud is saying is that satisfying a tamed instinct is artificial, compared to satisfying something
that is engrained in our animal nature. Animal Nature connects itself to the short story The Company
of Wolves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story is interesting by raising questions about what the savage instincts represents to a community
that is in the edge of civilization, in a location where nature and society clash. The story in short
represents Sigmund Freud s clash of human nature and the animal state (Id), the cultured state (ego)
and the self state (superego) and the representation of humanity in a state where there is no discernible
difference between humans and beasts. In the end the humans have the potential to be as savage as the
wolves in the right circumstances.
The circumstances that created this nature of humans as wolves are influenced partly by the location
in which the story takes place, the forest. Like the Original Red Riding Hood story the woods are as
ominous and threatening to the young female protagonist. Unlike Red Riding Hood though, the story
by Angela Carter is much more specific on the wolves and what they represent as symbols of human
barbarity. In the story, it is stated that, It is winter and cold weather. In this region of mountain and
forest, there is now nothing for the wolves to eat. (Carter,1085). The wolves or savagery is created
through condition, the influence of the location makes human harder both physically and mentally,

from different part of the world which usually giving us a big number of extinct languages. The effect
of this can be clearly seen on the academic clique which is a major topic of argument these days, but
on the other hand some argues that it s a natural thing is happening as we move forward in life. All

which state or which country he belongs to therefore loss of a language will lead to identity crisis of

with the loss of languages there is loss of history, traditional songs and poetry. All kind of forms which

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Studying Abroad
In the last century, the contemporary world has become more globalized than before. There has been a
worldwide integration in different fields of life such as economic, political, business, trade, financial,
and educational fields. In order to deal with this globalization, students, in all over the world, should
be opened to other countries and cultures which exceed the boundary of their nation. Studying abroad,
which means leaving the homeland country and pursuing the education in another country ( Dervin
Byron, 2008), could be one of the ways for the students to explore this globalized world. It has been
mentioned by the Institute of International Education (IIE) that in the last two decades the number of
students studying abroad worldwide has tripled (Lieb, 2016). Should students be more encouraged ...

Their point of view is that it is hard for these students to be responsible for arranging money for
university s tuition fees and for their living expenses. Although that is correct to a certain extent, there
are some weaknesses in this view. Firstly, students who have the intention to study abroad would put a
prior financial plan with their parents. That helps them to know their budget, and to spend money
according to it. Also, if there are some unexpected circumstances happen, they will be assisted
financially by their parents. Secondly, some universities and schools provide full or partial

Basic Classic Threats For It Systems And Data
1. What are the four basic classic threats to IT systems and data? Give an example of each. According
to Mr Moeller, we can classify IT system threats as four main classes. Interruptions: interruption refers
to the situation where an IT component, typically a hardware or a software, gets corrupted or is
completely lost. The main issue behind this kind of thread consists of the disruption of service
provided by that IT component. An example could be someone performing a denial of service on an IT
system by overwhelming network connections. Interceptions: this class encompasses all threat related
with the stealing of, gaining unauthorized access to, data or service. For instance, it could be a
program or a user trying to illegally access another system or data. One example that particularly
applies to this scenario includes eavesdropping communication between system to retrieve or capture
data. Modification: I believe this one could the most dangerous class as any threat that fall into this
categories not only affects/tampers a system but also removes tractability. In other words, this kind of
threat tends to alter system environment without leaving. Thinking of hacking tool such as metasploit,
that is exactly the definition/description of some payload such as reverse shell. A user that managed to
get a reverse shell from a target machine can modify environment parameter such as permission,
process ID of running program as well as deleting log files that may hint plausible

A large number of competitors especially from Wintel (Windows Intel) family create a red ocean for
Apple. Wintel platform is not produced by single firm rather than combination of firms. These
competitors offer similar product to apple with only little different in features, brand and design.
Several Apple competitors are IBM, HP, Compaq, Dell, Lenovo, Gateway, Acer, Fujitsu, Sony, ECS,
Toshiba, etc. Strong bargaining power of suppliers creates high cost of computer components. As there
is only small number of processor suppliers (e.g. Intel, AMD, Cyrix, and IBM) and only small of them
has capability and willingness to provide the best for Apple, the bargaining power of supplier is high
to the Apple. This condition made the price of processor component is high. At the other side, the
great number of competitors with similar product specification and the birth of Internet are also
strengthening the bargaining power of final consumers. This limits the ability for Apple set price too
high. Low threats of substitute product also characterize the industry. Besides Wintel personal

the same kind of product with Apple, it is considered as rivalry instead of product substitution.

A Study On Stress Among The Banking Employees
A Study on Stress among the Banking Employees in Rising Concern Mr. L.Kannan Abstract Over the
last decade the nature and philosophy of work have undergone dramatic changes, and it is still
changing at whirlwind speed. Technological advancements have made significant contribution in
almost all sectors. In the world of hectic work schedules omnipresent deadlines and cut throat
competition there is less downtime in which they are really away from work this has led to stress
which has become a buzzword. Stress is a response, psychological or physiological to influence
arising out of change, disturbances or occurrence in the environment or in the life of a person. It may
be construed as a pressure strain or tension. The global meltdown and the subsequent turmoil in the
financial market have resulted in increased stress levels leading to a number of ailments. People are
now more prone to diseases like hypertension, lower immunity and gastrointestinal problems. Over
the last two decades several reforms have taken place within the banking sector. The organizational
models, practices, procedures and systems have been redefined completely in the Indian banking
industry in the post globalization era today the focus of the industry is on HR issues and challenges
out of it the most challenging issues is stress and its management sources of stress in banking sector

The use of phrase keywords also contributes to number of bookings like the phrase DC to France Sale
which have the highest conversion rate compare to others. Different with Google, Yahoo has
moderately earned more income from the words of city such as Florence, Paris and Rome. This may
be resulted from the difference search methods that Yahoo mainly focuses on web contents keywords.
Overture more likely to gain revenue in words that relate with cities in eastern part of Europe like
Athens, Tunis, Amman. Overture loses money on broad unspecific words. Thus, Overture should
focus on the exact keywords which have connection with flight and travel to eastern part of Europe.
MSN US and MSN Global costs mainly derived from phrase keywords except Air France Brand
keywords. For example, phrase keyword of travel to France generates moderate number of 346 clicks,
but none of the clicks succeed in sales conversion. Another example is flights to Paris , other
publishers succeed in booking of positive net revenue with the keywords, while MSN US and MSN
Global lose money. * Broad and focus keyword Broad keyword usually gains many clicks from the
campaigns. By analyzing publishers performance data, we concluded that Yahoo US, Overture Global,
MSN US and MSN Global are publishers that have strength in broad campaign keywords. Number of
clicks for broad keywords represents minimum 90% of total clicks

Single Effect In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
The Ways the Single Effect is created in The Fall of the House of Usher Edgar Allen Poe is a critic of
short stories and poetry, and often puts his own theories into his writing. Edgar Allen Poe s, The Fall
of the House of Usher, falls into this category in the idea of the single effect. The short story starts
with the Narrator going to visit his old friend, Roderick Usher because of a letter Roderick writes to
him. The Narrator goes to the house and spends time with Usher, but all starts to go array when
Roderick thinks his sister is dead and buries her. She comes out of her tomb and jumps at Usher and
the House of Usher falls and Roderick dies. Poe argues that all short stories should have a single
effect; a feeling the author should make the reader feel. The single effect of The Fall of the House of
Usher is terror. Poe creates the single effect of terror through the settings, characters, and elements of
the story. He does this through the setting of Usher s room and Madeline s tomb; through the
characters of Roderick and Madeline Usher; and through the element of the Haunted Palace. The
single effect of terror is created in the settings of Roderick Usher s room ... Show more content on

Before the Narrator enters Roderick s room, he walks through the house and describes it. The Narrator
sees the darkness in the house when he notices, the ebon blackness of the floors (Poe 297). He

to the whole house. The Narrator also describes a feeling of a ghost in the house among trophies that
are moving, trophies which rattled as I strode (Poe 297). This feeling of terror is created for the reader
to imagine when he or she felt objects moving, scaring him or her. The rattling that the Narrator
notices is something that the reader relates to feeling further creating a single effect for the

The table below breaks down the economic value in use of the CMI pads according to both the
Colerick and Fazio tests. I used the data from each case to derive the number of hours of driving
required to complete the job with both the asbestos and CMI pads. The difference in time to complete
the job multiplied by the cost per real hours was one part of the economic value in use. The other
portion was the cost of the asbestos pads for each project.

The players in this segment are likely to be the larger international construction contractors like
Conmaco and Raymond International, as well as larger independent pile driving firms. The market can
be segmented by benefit because there are those consumers or purchase influencers who look at the
impact the pads can have from an engineering standpoint. Because CMI pads transfer the energy from
the pile more efficiently they were less likely to result in damage to the pile that may affect the
integrity of the foundation. The players that would be in this segment would be the architectural and
consulting groups, as well as the more sophisticated of the larger engineering/construction contractors.
There is a second benefit segment that you can identify as well. This group would be defined by there
need or want for a safer work environment. The use of asbestos pads would be undesirable to this
segment, and would be more likely to choose the CMI pads. This segment would be harder to identify
because they would be spread out amongst the different size firms. It is likely that at the time of the
case larger firms were not yet concerned about the major litigation issues surrounding the use of
asbestos. Since it is most likely site workers that would be identified in this segment it is likely that
smaller firms were the principle is on site at the projects would be the major part of the

A Summary On Corporate Governance
Like de Kluyver argued in his publish (A primer on Corporate Governance, 2009), there is a
presumption that, in making a business decision, the directors acted on an informed basis, in good
faith, and in the honest belief that the action was taken in the best interest of the corporation.
However, even though the bar has been set, the definition of best interest of the corporation is open for
every business directors to interpret. In the case of Enron, the rule had been bent so hard that it finally
broke. The company was originally established as an energy provider in the US. In 1970s, the CEO of
Enron seized the chance of US energy market deregulation and navigated the company into a new and
attractive business energy trading. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the massive company structure, when the bubble broke in 2001, a numerous amount of
people took the hit. The stockholders of Enron scandal include company employees, board of

society.
There were specific internal control protocols and external audit agreements designed to prevent the
tragic from happening. However, just like my classmate Likhita said during the class discussion
(Thought and Discourse, September 16, 2015), People will always find the loophole . In terms of
internal control failing, first of all, the malfunction of the board of directors would be our primary
concern. Enron Board of Directors clearly failed to oversight company operations. In United States

subcommittee on investigations, 2002), committee memebrs indicated that The Board witnessed
numerous indications of questionable practices by Enron management over several years, but chose to
ignore them to the detriment of Enron shareholders, employees and business associates. Moreover, the
Board of Directors directly violated Enron s code of ethics and agreed the company from trading with

A Book Bum Rush The Page By Teri Ellen Cross
In the world we live in there are multiple definitions of what beauty is. However is it right to deemed a
certain skin color more beautiful than the other? In our history we are taught that being a white
complexion has many advantages, and that being a dark complexion is a shame. Although that is
history, in our world today believe it or not individuals are still subjected to discrimination because of
their skin color. In a book called Bum Rush The Page , a poem called Complected written by Teri
Ellen Cross, the author indicates the clear epidemic problem of racism and identity that is occurring
nationwide today.
The title of the poem Complected gives off a pessimistic tone. The word itself is not a real word, I
believe that the author got this title by piecing the word complexion and complicated together. The
two words completely define the racial discrimination dark complexion individuals encounter. Skin
complexion should not be a complicated matter anymore especially considering our history and all the
terrible acts that s been done. But yet today, our skin color seems to be the only thing that identifies us,
and not what we do or what we have achieved.
The author of the poem writes about two young girls and she is also comparing them as they stand
next to each other side by side. The main focus of the poem is the first girl she starts off writing about,
which is also the one that is not Venus ( line 10). This girl has a dark complexion, we know this

The horrifically unjust persecution of the Jewish people during the Holocaust is widely recognized as
history s single most malevolent event. Oskar Schindler s courageous protection of his workers has
become one of the most famous acts of compassion that occurred during Hitlers systematic execution
of the Jews. Schindler was able to save over one thousand Jews by using his wealth and connections.
The compassion that this member of the Nazi party showed to the Jews was punishable by death, yet
he risked his life. Schindler and his assistant, Itzhak Stern, created a list of names, all of Schindler s
beloved workers who would be saved the horror of certain death at Nazi concentration camps. Stern,

Through acts of selfless compassion good triumphs over evil. In direct opposition to compassion is
hatred. At the root of all evil is the escalation of negativity manifested in a series of beliefs that can
turn to actions. The Anti Defamation League works to prevent anti Semitism and they define a series
of steps starting with ignorance, insensitivity, stereotyping, prejudice and bigotry which are at the
bottom of the iceberg meaning they are present, that can and do escalate to crimes of discrimination,
harassment and hate crimes. These are the steps Germany took under Hitler that led to the mass killing
of the Jewish people. According to researchers in the Scholastic Update article, Why Do People Hate,
hatred is learned. The ugliest and most extreme violence is grounded in common, everyday prejudice,
learned in childhood and reinforced by society. The effect of Hitler s goal to create a totalitarian state
made up of the perfect, Aryan race was teaching Germans hatred and escalating the violence. Few had
the courage to counter this, but Schindler proved to be, albeit flawed, a Nazi with a heart sympathetic
to human suffering. Civilization is a fragile state that ultimately requires compassion from it s citizens.

Essay on Historical Roles of Men and Women in Leadership
While analyzing professions held by men verses those held by women through history, the concept of
history that needs to be observed is a vast period of time. For if all or most of known history about
humans is not taken into consideration, then much of present day analysis of leadership gender roles
might actually start to make sense. The previous sentence was not an error in thought or printing.
Much of modern analysis of gender perspectives in leadership and the roles of men and women seem
to forget the thousands of years of history and the more recent, evolution of gender equality, which has
taken place to get to where we are at present day. The key word is evolution; we are slowly but

To analyze the many histories of people, a person must look to the historical aspects of that particular
culture. The culture of any one group of people is usually passed down through generations via family
and community. Whether the culture is nomadic tribal peoples of Mongolia or a modern day Roman
Catholic Italian American family, the culture and its typical roles for men and women are passed along
through each community. Tradition is also a source to be traced when looking at a group s historical
gender role development. A people s culture will usually go hand in hand with their traditional values.
These interlaced values of culture and tradition unite and bind families as well as communities
together with one another. When traditions are passed along from one generation to another,
sometimes the idea of questioning said traditions never enters ones mind. Some people are taught that
this is just what you are supposed to do, while others do not want to buck the current culture. This
being said, whatever role a person s gender might have played in their parents life, that role will
probably be the same or very similar in that person s life. Yet another thread that is interlaced with a
people s history and culture is that long, entangling string of religion.

This commercial is for Meow Mix Irresistibles Cat Treats. In the beginning, it shows a cat peeking out
from under a pile of laundry. The cat then ducks back down and the owner looks at him. The owner is
an average looking, younger woman and the cat is brown with a dark coloring. Next, the cat keeps his
head out of the laundry basket and the owner looks happy and surprised to see him there. While the cat
is in the laundry basket, there is slow music that resembles the Meow Mix theme song. The cat s
owner then grabs a bag of treats lying on the floor. The word irresistible moments is also said at this
time while the cat is jumping out of the basket. This implies that the treats are delicious and that cats

This is shown by an average woman in a normal looking house. Pathos is used to show the emotional

owner petting the cat afterwards gives people an emotional appeal since it is cute. The satisfaction and

Repetition is shown by the words meow being repeated in a catchy jingle. Irresistible moments is an
example of loaded language because it is saying that if one buys these treats, your cat will
automatically gravitate towards them and will seem to love their owner. It also hints at the fact that

The American judicial system is one that convicts and incarcerate prisoners for various crimes. When
someone commits a crime, it is the judicial system s responsibility to enforce and apply the laws.
Under United States legislation, criminals are innocent until proven guilty in a court trial, but the
judicial system during the twentieth century did not properly give them fair trials. Instead, the court
system convicted many prisoners guilty of crimes they supposedly committed. This situation created
the start of a new and corrupt judicial system because prisoners could not plead their case in court.

Instead of convicts receiving fair trials and being treated equally, the judicial system discriminated
against poverty stricken people and allowed brutal treatment and conditions. Prisons in America
contained a high percentage of poor people because they could not afford bail or lawyers. The judicial
system had no respect towards the poor because they were viewed as uneducated people. Since the
rich had the finances to pay for lawyers and bail, they were less likely to be incarcerated. Money
showed respect, intelligence, and power for wealthy people. Besides discrimination being an issue for
the judicial system, unfair trials for convicts also occurred. Prisoners were not given the chance to
plead guilty or not guilty in a courtroom because they did not have lawyers appointed to them. The
judge solely decided whether to convict a criminal guilty or not guilty of the crime they supposedly
committed. It was common for prisoners to be incarcerated for crimes they never committed because
the judicial system allowed unfair trials. Prisoners experienced brutal and inhumane treatments and
conditions that include physical abuse, unsanitary living environments, and the possibility of
contracting diseases. The judicial system selfishly altered the laws for their own well being. They
benefitted from the changes and were never held accountable for the acts they allowed and committed.

Sacred Twins Movie Analysis
Sacred Twins, Profane Treatment This is the story of the sacred twins, Thaues and Taous, and the
events that lead to them becoming the attendants of the Apis bull, as recounted in a letter written by
Ptolemaios to Ptolemy VI.The film is a tale of murder, betrayal, theft and the gods, and includes
scenes daily Egyptian life that create ties between the modern viewer and ancient Egypt. One of the
central themes of the film is the economic activity that surrounds spiritual life in Egypt and the temple
complexes. Another major theme is the legal structure that developed in Egypt around economic
activity and family law. These two aspects combine to form the major structure underpinning the girl s
narrative, creating a fascinating look at life in Ptolemaic Egypt. Temple complexes in Egypts
functioned as market places for a diverse range of goods and services. People would travel to the city
of Sakkara to seek answers to their prayers, bringing coins with them that were quickly spent in the
city. Pilgrims could purchase charms, potions, and favors from the gods, converting their gold or silver
coins into a less temporal, religious currency. This attracted merchants and craftsman to the temples,
creating an entire economy devoted to serving the visitors. A ceremony such as the Apis bull funeral
depicted in the film would draw in far greater numbers of pilgrims and provide an economic boom for
the temple economy. Service in an ancient Egyptian temple complex also included

John Brown as the Villian or Hero
Brown s attack on Harper s Ferry affected American culture more than can ever be understood.
Tension between the North and South was building in the 1850 s. Slavery among many other things
was dividing the country into two sections. Brown was executed on December 2, 1859 for his
murderous out lash on society. Was his mind so twisted and demented that he would commit cold
blooded murder? The answer is no. John Brown was a man with a goal and a purpose. When he said
that abolition could not be achieved without blood he was right. It is one of histories great ironies;
John Brown s struggle preceded the Civil War by only 17 months. Thousands of people were killed in

Success had eluded him up to this point. He had sired 20 children and had gone through two wives,

Gerrit Smith, a philanthropist friend of Brown s, was persuaded into giving a portion of the 120,000

Brown lived on this land as a farmer for some time before realizing that people were just taking

In 1850, the Fugitive Slave Law was passed. This law plainly stated that citizens were required to help
slave catchers if inquired upon to do so. This law would make it immensely difficult for slaves to
successfully escape slavery. Slaves would have to be even more careful not to run into the wrong

John Brown along with other northerners were outraged. Many abolitionists protested and claimed this
law was outrageous. The question of whether it was right for the government to force abolitionist to

A common reason for drains to clog is because the wrong things are going down the drain. In the
kitchen, grease and food are a common cause. Grease congeals, and over time blocks the drain and/or
the sewer pipe. Grease should be allowed to cool and poured into a container that seals tightly.
Furthermore, grease can be recycled or disposed of with the trash. Solid food waste should be ground
in the garbage disposal or disposed of in the trash, but never pour grease fat or oils down the drain.

The Female Oppression Of Women In William Shakespeare
In Shakespeare s comedy, MoV, the female protagonists are not given the same opportunities men or
treated seriously and rather only given these opportunities or have their words taken seriously if they
act as men through cross dressing. From this portrayal, modern audiences can learn that oppression
was present in the past and still continues to affect women in today s world. Portia has to cross dress
in order to take on the role of a lawyer. She along with her maid in waiting, Nerissa That they shall
think we are accomplishèd/With that we lack (3.4.62 63)During the Shakespearean era, women were
not viewed as intelligent and lacked skills to have such roles. Going under the guise of a lawyer Portia
would be able hold a position that she would not be able to have if she was appeared as a woman.
Furthermore, this position also allows for her to have more power and gain respect from individuals in
her society. While under this persona, Shylock lauds a disguised Portia for her judgement, saying A
Daniel come to judgement! Yea, a Daniel./O wise young judge,how I do honor thee! (4.1.231 232) 1)
Shylock likens Portia to a wise and important biblical figure, Daniel, who made wise judgement. By
complimenting Portia, it goes to show that what a woman says is only deemed serious if not seen as a
woman saying it. When she returns to Belmont, Portia reads a letter out to Bassanio and Gratiano,
which contains the line, There you shall find that Portia was the doctor,/Nerissa there her

The Sinking Of The Titanic Essay
On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, largest ship afloat, left Southampton, England on her maiden voyage to
New York City. (The sinking of the Titanic) There were 2,200 women, men, children, and work crew
members that made the voyage over to the United States, but little did they know that only 705 would
actually step foot on United States territory. This tragedy struck over 100 years ago, but is still
constantly brought up by many people to this day. But one reason that it s still brought up is because
of the award winning movie, but how does the sinking of the Titanic reflect its time period? The only
things that allow us to know how it affected the time period is, how the ship was made, there clothing,
different level of people class, and lastly how the ship was ran. What made us understand this tragic
event much better though, well the movie that won a ton of academy awards helped breakdown this
historical event. The award winning movie was produced in December of 1997. They started
producing the movie in 1995, it cost over $200 million to create the movie. They recreated the ship in
Baja, California, they used computers and scaled models to recreate the ship and the sinking of the
ship. The main actors of the movie were Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), Rose Dewitt
Bukater (played by Kate Winslet). An interesting fact about the movie is, the two main characters
weren t actually passengers on the ship, the names were just made up for the movie. However, they

How To Write An Essay About Jaycee Dugard s Kidnapping
Jaycee Lee Dugard was an average 11 year old girl in fifth grade. While she was walking to her bus
stop on a June day a car came up beside her and a man and woman jumped out and grabbed her.
Jaycee Dugard s conflict with her kidnapping teaches the reader how to overcome any obstacle
through her strength and desire to live a normal life after being discovered 18 years later with two
daughters. Jaycee was kidnapped in 1991 by a man and his wife at the age of 11. She was put through
rapes, and unusual living situations for 18 years. Unlike most kidnappings that society knows, Jaycee
was never abused other than the rapes. Her kidnappers, Phillip and Nancy never mentally or
physically abused her. They wanted to keep her happy so that she wouldn t try to escape or rebel
against them. But as an 11 year old girl it was hard for Jaycee to be happy. Her life became her being
handcuffed and laying on a bed naked for hours or days on end. Eventually Phillip would ... Show

She did this only in hopes to get out alive. I had plenty of practice keeping calm and unaffected on the
outside when on the inside I felt anything but calm (Dugard 203). Dugard expresses frequently how
she hid her emotions for 18 years from Phillip, Nancy and even herself. She never was able to express
her true feelings on anything, all so that she could protect her daughters and herself.
Jaycee now celebrates the fact that she is free and that she lives the almost average life she pictured
for herself. She holds no grudges over what happened to her, and is only glad to be alive and to have
the life she has now. She is working on improving herself, and trying to be the best mother that she
can be for her daughters. Jaycee even started a foundation JAYC, which stands for Just Ask Yourself
to Care and it is a foundation that helps support families who have gone through a tragedy or an

The Speech-Language Pathology Strategic Planning Committee
Over the past year, I have been involved in several committees at the department and college levels.
When I began my service at UDC, I was a member of the Faculty Senate for two years. This allowed
me to learn the university culture and the importance of shared governance. Thereafter, the
committees in which I volunteered to serve were, not only interdisciplinary and collaborative, but
were those that served the needs of students. For example, in the past, I served as a member of the
College of Arts and Sciences Grievance Committee which met as needed to resolve instructor/student
conflicts. My colleagues on the Committee were representatives of every division in the College. The
challenge of meeting the student s needs as well as being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The charge of this committee was to make recommendations regarding the programs mission, vision,
strategic initiatives, curricular changes and/or adjustments. Additionally, the SPC identifies critical
strategic issues facing the program and provides recommendations of alternative strategic options.
Even though, we all must remain current with trends in the profession, advances in evidence based
practices, and the needs of all stakeholders of speech language pathology, it falls to the SPC to provide
recommendations relative to those market trends, the needs of the community program and making the
program more viable and competitive than it is presently. Therefore, the SPC is mandated to develop
measureable strategic goals for development and implementation for five year interim periods. In the
beginning of the academic year, the SPC met with faculty and staff to review the current strategic plan
and to map out potential changes and future goals that the SPC will formulate. As a former SLP
program director, I am well familiar with past goals of the program (since I drafted them), including
curricular changes, teaching and employment needs as well as needs of the students as they progress
through their matriculation. Additionally, as a former program director I managed the elimination of
the undergraduate division of the program and wrote a monograph recommending a doctoral program
in speech language pathology to be created once the university forms an infrastructure to
accommodate such a program. As always, the strategic plan is student driven. Those goals that ensure
students are ready to take the board examination (PRAXIS), are ready for employment and patient
engagement are the primary concerns of the SCP. As a former coordinator/program director and
current associate professor, researcher and clinical consultant, student needs are considered

Break-Up Inside Cole
In the beginning of the novel, Cole behaves cruelly when he becomes emotional. One example from
the book is when Edwin is taking him to the island for the first time Anger welled up inside cole. He
hated that stupid stare. Pretending to aim for the waves, he spit so the wind would catch the thick
saliva and carry it back (Mikaelsen 5). Therefore the spit hit Edwin. Another example is Cole beat up
Peter Driscal after he told on Cole for breaking into the hardware store. And now Peter can t walk
correctly and has speech slur. Not only does cole act out in anger when he is mad, he also behaves
violently when he is afraid. For example, when he is on the island, he sees the spirit bear and he tries
to kill it. He flung the spear with all his strength fully intending to kill (Mikaelsen 77). These are some
examples of how he acts out when he experiences his emotions. ... Show more content on

Because of the incident with the spirit bear cole has calmed down a lot. For instance, when Edwin and
Cole were at the circle justice meeting Edwin shoved Cole to the ground Cole scrambled to his feet,
Edwin offered a hand and helped him up. Cole fought the urge to hit or shove the elder (Mikaelson
152). He also still had some anger inside of him when he seen the spirit bear again you maggot! Cole
yelled, leaping to his feet I ll kill you (Mikaelson 64). Because Cole hasn t danced the dance of anger
yet he still acts violently

  • 2. Intellectual Progress Of Mankind By Martin Luther King Jr. Intellectual Progress of Mankind Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals Martin Luther King, Jr. Intellectual progress of mankind is the progression towards discovering the questions about curiosity on why something is what it is or what makes something work the way that it does. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and supporting scientific and theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular issues of study. this can be defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of mankind resulting from one s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to conceptualize. This helps humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make advancements on daily basis in relation to his life. Three main subject leads toward Intellectual Progress of mankind, philosophies, ideologies, and theories which this paper examines as related themes that often intersect in educational ideas (Gutek, 2004). Philosophy falls somewhere between the arts and sciences. On the one hand, it offers idiosyncratic worldviews that may be too disparate to compare. It is not surprising, then, that the question Is philosophy progressive? is hardly ever raised. From one viewpoint, it offers quirky perspectives that might be excessively unique, making ... • 3. Dorothea Dix Essay Dorothea Dix One of the Great Women of the 1800s Once in a while a truly exceptional person has made a mark on the growth of mankind. Dorothea Dix was an exceptional woman. She wrote children s books, she was a school teacher, and she helped reform in prisons. Some of her most notable work was in the field of making mental health institutions a better place for the patients that lived in them. Dorothea Dix gave a great deal to humanity and her achievements are still being felt today, especially in the treatment of those with mental disabilities. Dix started out though with very humble beginnings. Dorothea Dix was born in Hampden, Maine in 1802. Her mother was not very mentally stable and her dad was an abusive alcoholic. The Dix moved ... When she returned to Boston she asked her grandmother if she could start another school in her grandmother s dining room. After a bit of opposition, her grandmother agreed. There, she taught until 1835, but she became sick with tuberculosis and also exhaustion had set in. Because of her illness she closed the school and then traveled to Europe to recuperate, under the advice of her friends and family. She again returns to Boston, months later, but this time she found herself with a very large inheritance that would allow her to love comfortably for the rest of her life.4 She realized that she was not the type to sit back and do nothing, so she accepted an invitation to teach at a Sunday school at the East Cambridge Jail in East Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1941. That s when her quest began. She was shocked when she saw that mentally ill patients were being put into the jails, and even more appalled at the conditions they were put in. This is where Dix helped humanity in a giant way. She made it public about the ways that those with mental and physical handicaps were being treated. Dix wrote, Men need knowledge in order to overpower their passions and master their prejudices. 5 She first appealed to the local courts and though the conditions were mildly improved she was not satisfied with the outcomes. • 5. A Brief Look at Climate Change The global climate system is complex and its response to future anthropogenic greenhouse gases and to climate change adaptation, is often poorly understood. Climate change is an area where modeling in the framework of complex adaptive systems can improve our knowledge both with respect to the internal structure and adaptive mechanisms of climate and our capacity for designing efficient climate adaptation policies. Modeling of these systems includes a dynamic system consisting of transition equations describing the evolution of state variables characterizing the natural system, such as CO2 concentrations in the upper and lower atmosphere and in the oceans, and state variables characterizing the economic systems, such as physical capital and knowledge. The complex adaptive character of the system implies that the dynamic system will be nonlinear and nonconvex, will allow for nonlinear feedbacks and multiple basins of attraction, will evolve both in the temporal and spatial dimension, and will be influenced by forward looking optimizing economic agents (Xepapadeas, 2010). Moreover, any rational policy choice must consider the uncertainty about the magnitude and timing of climate change s impact on economic productivity (Cai et al., 2013). The majority of the literature, including the recent U.S. Government Interagency Working Group on the Social Cost of Carbon (IWG, 2013) does not model the stochastic nature of the climate and economic systems. As for me I think that what went well on this on class assignment is that students connect their previous knowledge with new knowledge these our six grade students so they already recognize the narrative of Harriet Tubman but the encyclopedia discussion was more different than merely learning. • 8. Lifespan Development And The Development Of Human And... Lifespan is the period during which something is functional, so in humans, lifespan is the period from birth and death. As humans, we break it down into different phases, this would include infants, toddlers, preschooler, school age, adolescents, early adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood. This shows that we are changing as we move as a society as the life expectancy increases and children are aging differently. Most known as human development, which is the action of developing to maturity. Human development is the study of these changes related to the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social domains of an individual. Similar to human development, there are three types of lifespan development, this including physical development which involves growth and changes in the body and brain, the senses, motor skills and health and wellness. Cognitive wellness which involves learning, attention, memory, language, thinking, and creativity. And lastly, the psychological development which involves emotions, personality, and social relationships (White 326 334). When thinking of development, individuals often consider the changes the human body goes through as aging occurs. In the field of human services, it is important to recognize development throughout the lifespan and how an individual s behavior can be impacted based on factors that occur from conception to death. It also supports developmental change being impacted by biological, physiological, and social aspects. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This event was not the first tragedy in Syriac history as Byzantine oppression, slaughter at the hands of the Crusaders, and Mongol invasion occurred prior (The Syriac Orthodox Church a Brief Overview, NP). The rise of nationalism among the Christian citizens of the Ottoman Empire and the rise of the Young Turk government that preached a Turkey for the Turks was recipe for a disaster. The Young Turk government staged a successful coup in 1913. Following the entrance of the Ottoman Empire into World War I in November 1914 simultaneous genocides against Assyrians, Armenians, and Greeks occurred along with the help of Kurdish tribes. Victims were plundered, raped, deported, and massacred horrifically. The Assyrian genocide is treated slightly differently from that of the Armenians as there were no specific orders to attack and deport Assyrians from Ottoman leaders since they were not assisting the Russian Empire and did not desire their own nation state. The genocide was carried out by local leaders and Kurdish tribes. In some cities the entire adult populations were wiped out whereas in other cities such as Mardin only the male population was killed and the widows and children were forced to leave on foot which caused many more deaths. The deaths were not limited to just the Ottoman Empire as Assyrians in Persia were also slaughtered when the Ottoman Empire invaded northwestern Persia (The Assyrian Genocide, 1914 to 1923 and 1933 up to the Present, NP). The death toll was believed to be 300,000 Syriacs yet has only been recognized by the Swedish and Armenian Parliaments (Centenary of 1915 Syriac (Sayfo) genocide, NP). • 11. False Superiority In Cinderella Everything has a unique and individual purpose, whether it be philosophical conjectures, fantasy stories with brilliant action packed scenes, or even silly children s movies that people disregard as imaginary nonsense. Unsurprisingly, the story of Cinderella, written by the Grimm brothers, is not excluded from the vast majority of objects that have a significant purpose and meaning behind them. In the story Cinderella, numerous didactic lessons, meaningful morals, and thought provoking themes are conveyed to the reader, including the concept of false superiority, the idea of what being kind despite difficult circumstances may lead to, and the widely believed in notion of karma. To begin, the tale of Cinderella s upbringing and the people surrounding her portray the concept of false superiority, which is the idea that people think they are superior as a result of superficial characteristics when, in reality, they are inferior in a myriad of ways. For instance, Cinderella s stepsisters exemplify false superiority because even though they were beautiful with fair faces, they had evil and dark hearts (page 1). Furthermore, when Cinderella stood up, the prince looked into her face, and he recognized the beautiful girl who had danced with him (page 6). This quote depicts how societal standards for beauty and Clarno 2 superiority are not accurate measures of self worth, for Cinderella was unquestionably the true beauty from the prince s perspective. • 12. How North Korea became a Cruel Country How did North Korea become the cruel country that scorches both surrounding and distant nations with its sternly severe socialist flame? Subjugated by Japan in 1910, North Korea was mercilessly enslaved for thirty five years. Due to Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the United States occupied the southern region of the Korean Peninsula while Soviet troops seized the north. As a result communism spread like weeds. Sadly, North Korea s government, military, and economy were all by shaped by the leftist views suppressed on them. The root of the problem was Kim Il Sung, the first premier of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. At the urging of the United States, the United Nations General Assembly established elections, introduced a constitution, and formed the Republic of Korea in South Korea. The North Korean government evenly divides the tasks of leadership among numerous officials as this obligation requires careful attention. In accordance with their constitution, the head of government is the premier; Choe Yong rim presently occupies this position. Specifically aiding the premier, three vice premiers and the cabinet, which is comprised of twenty eight ministers, are next in power. Sun Yat sen was exiled in the United States during the events of the Wuchang Uprising of October 10th, 1911, hearing about it through a newspaper publication in Denver, Colorado.[1] Many Historians view Sun s accession as the provisional President of the Republic of China, directly following the revolution, as due to his position as a compromise candidate (Bergere, Marie Clare, Sun Yat sen, 1994, p. 12). In his nationalization theory, people would be deprived of the right to own land, but they could still retain other rights over the land by permission of the state. Sun Yat sen s revolutionary ideas extensively influenced formation of the New Army, responsible for the revolution of 1911. Through his early revolutionary actions and a failed military coup in 1895, Sun Yat sen was exiled for sixteen years, campaigning and raising monetary aid in Europe, the United States and in Japan. In Japan, Sun Yat sen joined dissident Chinese groups, a pre cursor to the Tongmenghui, becoming their leader and gaining a large amount of financial support from Japanese democratic revolutionary, Miyazaki Toten. [6] Sun Yat Sen smuggled this financial aid into China through his supporters, directly financing weapons and ammunitions, much of which was utilised in the revolution by the New Army. Sun Yat sen s ideology remained flexible; this had a homogenising effect on the revolutionary factions involved in the Wuchang rebellion and more widely, the Xinhai Revolution. Sun Yat sen s political ideologies reflected their intended audience as much as his personal convictions. What separates human intellect against animalistic nature? Humans have animalistic instincts, yet we fear it often choosing to hide it calling it taboo or deeming it inappropriate to a civilized society. Famed Psychologist Sigmund Freud once stated, The pleasure of satisfying a savage instinct, undomesticated by the ego, is incomparably much more intense than the one of satisfying a tamed instinct (Freud, ?) The story is interesting by raising questions about what the savage instincts represents to a community that is in the edge of civilization, in a location where nature and society clash. The story in short represents Sigmund Freud s clash of human nature and the animal state (Id), the cultured state (ego) and the self state (superego) and the representation of humanity in a state where there is no discernible difference between humans and beasts. In the end the humans have the potential to be as savage as the wolves in the right circumstances. The circumstances that created this nature of humans as wolves are influenced partly by the location in which the story takes place, the forest. Like the Original Red Riding Hood story the woods are as ominous and threatening to the young female protagonist. Unlike Red Riding Hood though, the story by Angela Carter is much more specific on the wolves and what they represent as symbols of human barbarity. In the story, it is stated that, It is winter and cold weather. In this region of mountain and forest, there is now nothing for the wolves to eat. (Carter,1085). Although that is correct to a certain extent, there are some weaknesses in this view. Firstly, students who have the intention to study abroad would put a prior financial plan with their parents. That helps them to know their budget, and to spend money according to it. Also, if there are some unexpected circumstances happen, they will be assisted financially by their parents. • 19. Basic Classic Threats For It Systems And Data 1. What are the four basic classic threats to IT systems and data? Give an example of each. According to Mr Moeller, we can classify IT system threats as four main classes. Interruptions: interruption refers to the situation where an IT component, typically a hardware or a software, gets corrupted or is completely lost. The main issue behind this kind of thread consists of the disruption of service provided by that IT component. An example could be someone performing a denial of service on an IT system by overwhelming network connections. Interceptions: this class encompasses all threat related with the stealing of, gaining unauthorized access to, data or service. For instance, it could be a program or a user trying to illegally access another system or data. One example that particularly applies to this scenario includes eavesdropping communication between system to retrieve or capture data. Modification: I believe this one could the most dangerous class as any threat that fall into this categories not only affects/tampers a system but also removes tractability. In other words, this kind of threat tends to alter system environment without leaving. Thinking of hacking tool such as metasploit, that is exactly the definition/description of some payload such as reverse shell. A user that managed to get a reverse shell from a target machine can modify environment parameter such as permission, process ID of running program as well as deleting log files that may hint plausible ... Single Effect In The Fall Of The House Of Usher The Ways the Single Effect is created in The Fall of the House of Usher Edgar Allen Poe is a critic of short stories and poetry, and often puts his own theories into his writing. Edgar Allen Poe s, The Fall of the House of Usher, falls into this category in the idea of the single effect. The short story starts with the Narrator going to visit his old friend, Roderick Usher because of a letter Roderick writes to him. The Narrator goes to the house and spends time with Usher, but all starts to go array when Roderick thinks his sister is dead and buries her. She comes out of her tomb and jumps at Usher and the House of Usher falls and Roderick dies. Poe argues that all short stories should have a single effect; a feeling the author should make the reader feel. The single effect of The Fall of the House of Usher is terror. Poe creates the single effect of terror through the settings, characters, and elements of the story. He does this through the setting of Usher s room and Madeline s tomb; through the characters of Roderick and Madeline Usher; and through the element of the Haunted Palace. However is it right to deemed a certain skin color more beautiful than the other? In our history we are taught that being a white complexion has many advantages, and that being a dark complexion is a shame. Although that is history, in our world today believe it or not individuals are still subjected to discrimination because of their skin color. In a book called Bum Rush The Page , a poem called Complected written by Teri Ellen Cross, the author indicates the clear epidemic problem of racism and identity that is occurring nationwide today. The title of the poem Complected gives off a pessimistic tone. The word itself is not a real word, I believe that the author got this title by piecing the word complexion and complicated together. The two words completely define the racial discrimination dark complexion individuals encounter. Skin complexion should not be a complicated matter anymore especially considering our history and all the terrible acts that s been done. But yet today, our skin color seems to be the only thing that identifies us, and not what we do or what we have achieved. The author of the poem writes about two young girls and she is also comparing them as they stand next to each other side by side. The main focus of the poem is the first girl she starts off writing about, which is also the one that is not Venus ( line 10). This girl has a dark complexion, we know this ... The culture of any one group of people is usually passed down through generations via family and community. Whether the culture is nomadic tribal peoples of Mongolia or a modern day Roman Catholic Italian American family, the culture and its typical roles for men and women are passed along through each community. Tradition is also a source to be traced when looking at a group s historical gender role development. A people s culture will usually go hand in hand with their traditional values. These interlaced values of culture and tradition unite and bind families as well as communities together with one another. When traditions are passed along from one generation to another, sometimes the idea of questioning said traditions never enters ones mind. Portia has to cross dress in order to take on the role of a lawyer. She along with her maid in waiting, Nerissa That they shall think we are accomplishèd/With that we lack (3.4.62 63)During the Shakespearean era, women were not viewed as intelligent and lacked skills to have such roles. Going under the guise of a lawyer Portia would be able hold a position that she would not be able to have if she was appeared as a woman. Furthermore, this position also allows for her to have more power and gain respect from individuals in her society. While under this persona, Shylock lauds a disguised Portia for her judgement, saying A Daniel come to judgement! Yea, a Daniel./O wise young judge, how I do honor thee! (4.1.231 232) 1) Shylock likens Portia to a wise and important biblical figure, Daniel, who made wise judgement. By complimenting Portia, it goes to show that what a woman says is only deemed serious if not seen as a woman saying it. • 43. The Sinking Of The Titanic Essay On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, largest ship afloat, left Southampton, England on her maiden voyage to New York City. (The sinking of the Titanic) There were 2,200 women, men, children, and work crew members that made the voyage over to the United States, but little did they know that only 705 would actually step foot on United States territory. This tragedy struck over 100 years ago, but is still constantly brought up by many people to this day. But one reason that it s still brought up is because of the award winning movie, but how does the sinking of the Titanic reflect its time period? The only things that allow us to know how it affected the time period is, how the ship was made, there clothing, different level of people class, and lastly how the ship was ran. What made us understand this tragic event much better though, well the movie that won a ton of academy awards helped breakdown this historical event. The award winning movie was produced in December of 1997. They started producing the movie in 1995, it cost over $200 million to create the movie. They recreated the ship in Baja, California, they used computers and scaled models to recreate the ship and the sinking of the ship. The main actors of the movie were Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), Rose Dewitt Bukater (played by Kate Winslet). An interesting fact about the movie is, the two main characters weren t actually passengers on the ship, the names were just made up for the movie. However, they did ... • 44. How To Write An Essay About Jaycee Dugard s Kidnapping Jaycee Lee Dugard was an average 11 year old girl in fifth grade. While she was walking to her bus stop on a June day a car came up beside her and a man and woman jumped out and grabbed her. Jaycee Dugard s conflict with her kidnapping teaches the reader how to overcome any obstacle through her strength and desire to live a normal life after being discovered 18 years later with two daughters. Jaycee was kidnapped in 1991 by a man and his wife at the age of 11. She was put through rapes, and unusual living situations for 18 years. Unlike most kidnappings that society knows, Jaycee was never abused other than the rapes. Her kidnappers, Phillip and Nancy never mentally or physically abused her. They wanted to keep her happy so that she wouldn t try to escape or rebel against them. But as an 11 year old girl it was hard for Jaycee to be happy. Her life became her being handcuffed and laying on a bed naked for hours or days on end. Eventually Phillip would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She never was able to express her true feelings on anything, all so that she could protect her daughters and herself. Jaycee now celebrates the fact that she is free and that she lives the almost average life she pictured for herself. She holds no grudges over what happened to her, and is only glad to be alive and to have the life she has now. She is working on improving herself, and trying to be the best mother that she can be for her daughters. • 45. The Speech-Language Pathology Strategic Planning Committee Over the past year, I have been involved in several committees at the department and college levels. When I began my service at UDC, I was a member of the Faculty Senate for two years. This allowed me to learn the university culture and the importance of shared governance. Thereafter, the committees in which I volunteered to serve were, not only interdisciplinary and collaborative, but were those that served the needs of students. For example, in the past, I served as a member of the College of Arts and Sciences Grievance Committee which met as needed to resolve instructor/student conflicts. My colleagues on the Committee were representatives of every division in the College. The challenge of meeting the student s needs as well as being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The charge of this committee was to make recommendations regarding the programs mission, vision, strategic initiatives, curricular changes and/or adjustments. Additionally, the SPC identifies critical strategic issues facing the program and provides recommendations of alternative strategic options. Even though, we all must remain current with trends in the profession, advances in evidence based practices, and the needs of all stakeholders of speech language pathology, it falls to the SPC to provide recommendations relative to those market trends, the needs of the community program and making the program more viable and competitive than it is presently. Therefore, the SPC is mandated to develop measureable strategic goals for development and implementation for five year interim periods. In the beginning of the academic year, the SPC met with faculty and staff to review the current strategic plan and to map out potential changes and future goals that the SPC will formulate. As a former SLP program director, I am well familiar with past goals of the program (since I drafted them), including curricular changes, teaching and employment needs as well as needs of the students as they progress through their matriculation. Additionally, as a former program director I managed the elimination of the undergraduate division of the program and wrote a monograph recommending a doctoral program in speech language pathology to be created once the university forms an infrastructure to accommodate such a program. As always, the strategic plan is student driven. Those goals that ensure students are ready to take the board examination (PRAXIS), are ready for employment and patient engagement are the primary concerns of the SCP. As a former coordinator/program director and current associate professor, researcher and clinical consultant, student needs are considered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Break-Up Inside Cole In the beginning of the novel, Cole behaves cruelly when he becomes emotional. One example from the book is when Edwin is taking him to the island for the first time Anger welled up inside cole. He hated that stupid stare. Pretending to aim for the waves, he spit so the wind would catch the thick saliva and carry it back (Mikaelsen 5). Therefore the spit hit Edwin. Another example is Cole beat up Peter Driscal after he told on Cole for breaking into the hardware store. And now Peter can t walk correctly and has speech slur. Not only does cole act out in anger when he is mad, he also behaves violently when he is afraid. For example, when he is on the island, he sees the spirit bear and he tries to kill it. He flung the spear with all his strength fully intending to kill (Mikaelsen 77). These are some examples of how he acts out when he experiences his emotions. ...
