The Sorcerer s Stone Movie Vs Book
Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. . This
quote was in the second Harry Potter movie spoken by Dumbledore, its not only an inspirational
quote but its also my first example on the differences between the movies and the books.
Although this quote was in the movie it was not in the book. Even though the movies and the
books were about the same thing they are both quite different. The movies leave out a lot of the
parts that the books have. Most of which are the parts when harry spends his time at home. Book
/Movie 1: The Sorcerer s Stone In book 1 it starts off by describing a family by the name of the
Dursley s and their daily routine. It explains how they are a very normal family... Show more

When they see their past selves Hermione throws a rock at them and starts talking about how
bad her hair looked back then. This scene doesn t happen in the book. Later on in the movie
when harry has a quidditch match to do so, Draco and his friend show up making ghost noises
and throw their hood over their heads trying to torment harry. In the book Draco and his friends
all dress up like a dementor (a demonic type ghost). All sitting on each others shoulders to make
a big dementor trying to scare Harry off his broom. Books/Movie 4: The Goblet of Fire couch
Sr. found the dark mark and blames his house elf Winky. So he fires winky. But Hermoine goes
to couch and tells him she saw a man in the wood conjure the dark mark. In the movie he blames
Harry, Ron, and Hermione for it and gets very angry at them. And harry was the one to tell
couch about the man in the woods. Also they never showed or mentioned winky in the movie.
When Harry finds out about the goblet of fire he wants to put his name in but Dumbledore tells
him no. Later when they draw from the goblet of fire Harry s name is drawn. in the book
Dumbledore s reaction is described as calm. But in the movie he is yelling and running across the

Cmmoc Training Experience
On 30 Nov, D Co departed the battalion O/A 0800 for Crotain National Park for a 3 day training
excersie. Some of the training that would be conducted were night drivers training under low
visibility (NVGs), PMCS (Before/ During and After), CR, basic navigation and team rapport
building. Leading up to this the CMOC has had a few meeting s with the teams to discuss left

Norwalk Transit District And Wheels Hub
Many in the Norwalk Community were shocked to hear about Norwalk transit districts plans for the
next year.
In the transit plans for next year the NCC shuttle is going to be permanently shut down along with
other buses starting January 1st 2017. This will affect many who go to Norwalk Community
College from the train station.
The Norwalk hour covered the story before the majority of the campus found out. The article
focused solely on the changes the shutdown of just the NCC shuttle will have on some students like
Jesse Lawrence and faculty as well.

The public hearings took place October 17 and 18 same times as the informational meetings. This
lead to some confusion.
NCC Students who showed up to the informational meetings left shortly after being told that in
these meetings the public is not allowed to voice their opinions since it was not a public hearing.
There was however a testimony form that could be filled out telling the Transit how the changes
will affect you which was not advertised.
The informational meeting was set up so that there were four tables that people can sit at while
they wait for one of the board members or Morton to talk to them about the changes they wanted to
make to the bus schedules.
The board gave out printed Power Points at this meeting explaining every change they are trying to
make and a couple other important documents. There were three bus drivers there but none that are
going to be impacted heavily by the changes being made.
Morton is responsible for the transit company as a whole and she explained that the transit is
funded by the state and federal transit system. Morton talked to each person that stayed at the
informational meeting to explain the reason behind her plan.
Our plan was to address the least productive the lowest ridership and you ll find in the proposals
how much the average passenger revenue per hour and how they were proposed and keeping in

Comparing Two Metaphors
Under the tree light has dropped from the top of the sky, light like a green latticework of
branches, shining on every leaf, drifting down like clean white sand. A cicada sends its sawing
song high into the empty air The world is a glass overflowing with water. 2. I thought the earth
remembered me, she took me back so tenderly, arranging her dark skirts, her pockets full of
lichens[1] and seeds. I slept as never before, a stone on the riverbed, nothing between me and the
white fire of the stars but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths among the branches of the
perfect trees. All night I heard the small kingdoms breathing around me, the insects, and the birds
who do their work in the darkness. All night I rose and fell, as if in water,... Show more content on

These are two poems about nature. Now they are talking about the same thing. Well, they say it
differently, you see the first one is talking about how the sun is rising and it shines on every leaf
and they use a simile which is just perfect. Then on the second one, then they use many, many
metaphors which are ok, but they rhyme a little which is better for the reader and it is longer and
so they make it more interesting. They are very interesting, and they make you want to just get
up and go outside. So you can feel what they are talking about so should right now just get off
the couch and go outside. Run around make some camping plans so you can go into the forest
and then see all the beauty of the world. Or you could go camping in the wrong spot where there
was a forest fire and so then you will see all the destruction and you will try to do something
about it. So then will decide that you need to do something about it so join a group that goes
around and helps put up signs that say. Fire Resrictions No Campfires No Barbeques Nothing
that are a Fire Hazard But then people will get very mad and so then you will need to go and talk to
your group and you will go and make new signs that

Personal Narrative-A Humorous Journey

in between my legs and bow in hand, the conductor raises his baton. He cues me along with 150
symphony players dressed in uniform black tuxedos and gowns. I was unbelievably nervous,
sitting second chair for hundreds to see; we opened with, The Marriage of Figaro composed by
Mozart. I had been preparing for this contest, this moment, all year and now it was finally upon me.
When I was in the third grade, our districts high school orchestra teacher accompanied by a few
high school players, came to my elementary class to inform us about stringed instruments
because the next year was the first year I could play in the orchestra. It never crossed my mind
that I wanted to play in orchestra until that day. I recall hearing the mellow, eloquent sound of the

wanted to become just as good as them. When I first began to play the cello, it was difficult. I had

Harley Davidson s Strategic Global Marketing
Harley Davidson Inc. Motorcycle Division
Case Study

MBA 6410 Strategic Global Marketing
Curry College
Harley Davidson, Inc. was established in 1903 when William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson began
producing the Harley Davidson motorcycle in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. By the 1960 s, Harley
Davidson was one of the first motorcycle manufacturers and, as a result, they had a complete
monopoly over the heavyweight motorcycle market. However, in 1969, American Machine and
Foundry (AMF, Inc.) purchased Harley Davidson. At this time, there was an increase in demand for
motorcycles along with new entrants to the market. When AMF, Inc. took over, the quality of the
Harley Davidson motorcycle significantly decreased at an extremely inopportune time. Japanese
manufacturers used this opportunity to break into the heavyweight motorcycle market with great
success. As a result, the future outlook of Harley Davidson was not bright and many did not
believe that the company would be standing at the end of the 1970 s. Over the course of the years,
Harley Davidson executives have done an excellent job keeping the Harley Davidson image alive
and profitable. However, the future of the company and market are unknown, and the management
team must strategize a future plan in order to sustain the market changes. (Peter, 2013)
The major issues facing Harley Davidson are the constantly evolving market and consistent

Common Knee Injury Research Paper
Understanding and Preventing the Most Common Knee Injuries
The knee is an integral joint in terms of movement, but this joint absorbs much impact while it
supports the weight of the body. Depending on the type of activities that you engage in, the level
of impact absorbed by your knee may vary. The kneejoint connects the kneecap (the patella) with
the second bone in the lower part of the leg (the fibula). It also connects the shin bone (the tibia)
with the thigh bone (the femur). Four ligaments serve to stabilize the joint; these ligaments are
known as the Lateral Collateral Ligament, Medial Collateral Ligament, Posterior Cruciate
Ligament, and the Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
Understanding Knee Pain
Knee pain is something that countless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ice is often used to combat inflammation caused by a knee injury. In cases where inflammation is
severe, elevating the leg above the heart is a standard practice. A person who frequently
experiences knee inflammation after engaging in activity may need to wear a knee support. A knee
support will provide support by compressing the area, and this may help to deal with the
inflammation.
When Ligaments Are Damaged
Ligaments connect the bones located within the knee joint. Damage to the ligament may affect
stability after first affecting mobility. The knee may become less and less capable of sustaining a
normal amount of weight.
Damage to a knee ligament is graded according to degrees (from one to three). An injury that is a
grade one will be painful, and it will impose some limits in regard to mobility. After an individual
rests the knee for a certain time and performs exercises of strength, a full recovery is likely. A
grade three rupture or tear will likely require some surgery before an individual may gain full use
of the knee again.
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament is typically involved in 40% of knee injuries sustained after
playing extreme sports. A person who sustains a knee injury such as this may wish to wear a knee
brace that is rigid. A rigid knee brace may help to keep the knee stabilized.

Breast Cancer Breast Self Examination
Background of the Study
Breast is a very vital portion of a female s body. Breast problems and diseases alike carcinoma get
distress and sorrow to women and most women should do everything in their capability to avoid its
presence (Omoyeni, Oluwafeyikemi, Irinoye, 2014).
According to American cancer society Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of
the breast. A malignant tumor is a set of cancer cells that can develop into (invade) near tissues or
spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease happens almost exclusively in women
(American Cancer Society, 2015).
For early identification of breast cancer Breast Self Examination (BSE) is an important and
inexpensive method.Breast Self Examination (BSE) is the examination done by individuals to
help identify any abnormality within the breasts. It involves visually and by hand examining the
breasts. It should be done at the age of 20 years and monthly;rather a few days after an individual
s menstrual period when the breasts are slight swollen. Breast Self Examination (BSE) involves a
process whereby women inspect their breasts regularly to detect any abnormal swelling and ready
for taking medical care. For the early recognition of breast cancerBreast self examination is a useful
tool (Omoyeni, etal., 2014).

In the 1960 s, Deaf Clubs began to drop drastically in number. As many Deaf people started

The Effects Of Childhood Poverty On The Community And...
This paper will be introducing and discussing child poverty. The focus will be on the ongoing
problem of child poverty within developed countries and the negative consequence of child poverty
including its impacts on economic and social chances for those in poverty. I will be seeking to
determine the negative effects of childhood povertyon the individual, whether that be an
immediate effect, a lasting long term effect, or something that does not show up until later on in
life. Secondly I will be searching to ascertain the changes in child poverty within developed
countries as well as what policies are in practice to help reduce poverty. Finally, I will be looking
to discover the effects of childhood poverty on the community and society in general.
Child poverty negatively impacts a youth both immediately and in the future. Child poverty is
defined as an environment that is damaging to their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual
development (UNICEF, 2004). This definition by UNICEF covers much of the damage that can
be done to a youth both mental and physical due to the effects of poverty. For children who are
forced to live in poverty there are damaging side effects such as; more frequent learning
disabilities when compared to those who are not facing child poverty (Clarke, 2016). As well as
language delays and anti social behaviour (Clarke, 2016). Children who face child poverty are
more likely to face instances of underachievement at least once and often

Hector Berlioz Research Paper
During the nineteenth century, music composers got inspiration from sources outside of the
musical world. The encounter with nature, a love tragedy, impressions of a journey, or a play often
served as motives that could be portrayed through music by using different colors, sound effects and
moods. In this type of music, events are described and as such it is called descriptive music. One of
the most well known composers of the nineteenth century of this type of music is Hector Berlioz.
Hector Berlioz was born in Grenoble, France in 1803. At his father s request, Berlioz pursued
studies in medicine before deciding to live his life as a music composer. His angry father
decided to terminate all of Berlioz s living supplies. Thus, while studying music in Paris, Berlioz
began his career as a music critic to earn a living. While in Paris, Berlioz saw a play by William
Shakespeare, which greatly inspired him. Berlioz composed many musical pieces that were inspired
by literature works, such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Damnation of Faust and The Trojans.

Kate desires love, regardless of how mean and crude she begins. In act one, scene one, when
Kate ties her sister s arms, she questions Bianca of all of the suitors that are after Bianca. Bianca

Bianca is Katherina s more youthful, extra appropriate sister. While she is higher liked by most

shows herself to be smart, as while she flirts and trades witticisms with lucentio while he s

Prayer In Public Schools Essay
America is a very diverse country, and it is very important that all of our public school s respect
student s beliefs. Praying is a very important part of faith in most religion beliefs. Not allowing
students to pray would be unconstitutional. It is also written in the First Amendment the right of
freedom of speech, we as Americans should be allowed to pray in school. Students also have the
right to pray under protected guidelines that have been set by the Supreme Court. This country was
also built on freedom to practice any religion.

Schemp the Supreme Court had made additional ruling dealing with prayer in public schools. The
court had ruled that it is unconstitutional for sponsored Bible reading and to recite the Lord s
Prayer. In these cases, the Supreme Court decisions never removed prayer from public schools. The
court only took out government sponsored worship.
In 1990 the Supreme Court ruled that students are allow to form clubs that permits them to meet

In 1995 guidelines were sent to every school by the Supreme Court. The guidelines state that
students have the right to pray and discuss any religion view to other students. Students are
allowed to discuss their views, as long as they are not being disruptive. However, the guidelines
still state that public schools have no right to force or pressure students to pray. Public Schools are
also not allowed to perform sponsoring worship, pressure students to read religious literature, or be
involved in ant religious functions. These guidelines are common sense, however for some reason

Deadly Deception Documentary Film
Is human experimentation appropriate? Should people be given the right to informed consent if
the research could result in possible harm? Is human experimentation in light of the Tuskegee
study justified? These are just some of the questions that arose during the presentation of the film
Deadly Deception. This film featured the government sponsored Tuskegee experiment and
documents this forty year study of untreated syphilis in the black males of Macon County,
Alabama. This review will examine the film Deadly Deception in light of the appropriateness of
human experimentation and the right for informed consent as well as the different ethical and
moral views that may arise as a response to what occurred. Deadly Deception is a documentary
about one of the most, if not the most controversial human experimentation studies conducted in
America. This film chronicles the Tuskegee experiment which began in 1932 and was carried out
within a forty year time span of consistent experimentation. This study s primary goal was to
observe the effects of untreated syphilis on the human body over the course of a year for the sole
purpose of eradicating the disease, but when it was discovered that a large proportion of the study s
population had syphilis, the objectives for the study changed. This study took place in Macon
County, Alabama with 600 black male participants, 400 of which were infected with syphilis while
the other 200 participants occupied the control (without syphilis). At the

The Monkey King Character Changes

Monkey King Character Changes Character isn t something that you were born with and can t
change... [Character is] something you must take responsibility in forming, said famous author Jim
Rohn. This is shown in American Born Chinese, written by Gene Luen Yang, with the Monkey
King. The Monkey King shows his true malleability as a character as he has drastic personality
changes throughout the course of the book. It is always unpredictable to how he will act next in
the story as he is easily influenced by others, for better and for worse. This dynamic character
changes from being a content character with high self esteem, to a depressed and negative character,
but eventually ends with an appropriate view of himself. The Monkey King starts off this book
with a high self esteem of who he is and his importance in the world. This is clear on the fourth
panel on page 9. You can tell that he views himself as an important monkey through some of the
techniques used by the author. One technique he uses is word choice. The text in the narrator
block says, He established his kingdom and monkeys from the four corners of the world flocked to
him. The author effectively used this narrator block to show how the monkey thought he was
important in this world by using powerful words such as kingdom and flocked to prove his point
and then bolding them to highlight their importance to the story. The word kingdom emphasizes his

SSMU3.1 Understanding Sensory Loss
Gemma Nelson (Ashcroft House)
1.1 Analyse how a range of factors can impact on individuals with sensory loss
* Impact on Communication
Sensory loss can frequently lead to isolation and frustration at not being able to communicate
efficiently with other people. With hearing loss, day to day activities such as hearing a doorbell,
using the telephone, watching television or taking part in conversations can produce feelings of
inadequacy within the individual. Not being able to distinguish faces, read the time on a clock or
drive can produce the same feelings in a person who has vision loss. Hearing loss interferes with
face to face communication and can often cause older people to lose ... Show more content on

Society is better than it used to be at recognising the needs of deaf people; there are more public
buildings such as cinemas, theatres and conference facilities that have loop systems so that people
who can use hearing aids are able to listen to what is being said or performed. There some events
that now have signers to translate speeches and performances. Many television programmes now
have access to subtitles and some have signers, although these tend to be late at night. People with
any kind of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the Equality Act
and the Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is hard to
convince an employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is unable to do a
job.
Attitudes such as these can make it difficult for people to maintain self esteem and can destroy
confidence, with the result that they will attempt less, rely on others more and potentially lose
their independence. However, there have been some major shifts in attitudes as initiatives such as
Our Health Our Care Our Say , Putting People First and Valuing People are changing how we
look at disability and making people aware that all disabled people have the right to take a full part
in society.

The Space Shuttle Challenger
The significant engineering failure that will be analyze is the Space Shuttle Challenger. In 1986,
the Challenger faced many launch delays. The first delay of the Challenger was due to the
expected weather front and presence of the Vice President (ENGINEERING.com). Since rain and
cold temperatures were expected to move into the area, they didn t want the Vice President to make
unnecessary trips. However, the launch window became perfect weather conditions since the
weather front stalled. The second delay was due to a defective microswitch in the hatch locking
mechanism. By the time the problem was fixed, the winds became too high and the weather front
had started to move again.
Due to these delays, the night before the launch, there was a teleconference between engineers and
management from Kennedy Space Center, Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, and Morton
Thiokol in Utah (ENGINEERING.com). This teleconference was to investigate whether the
challenger was safe to launch with the predicted temperatures of low 20s. Due to inconclusive data
and having no low temperature data below 53В°F, the managers recommended the launch to
continue and not be delayed. Temperatures dropped to about 8В°F the night before launch. On
January 28, 1986, the space shuttle challenger broke apart after seventy three seconds from launch
(History.com). This catastrophic event killed the entire crew in Challenger while traumatizing the
nation and throwing the NASA s shuttle program into turmoil.

The Multiculturalism And Education Policy
Multiculturalism and Education Policy
How we educate our students is a contentious topic. Many stakeholders have different ideas about
what will make our schools more successful. Without going into great detail about the past, it is safe
to say the current paradigm is one of standards and assessment. Schools have gone back to basics
reading, math, science, and little else (Newman, 2013). In order to be considered successful,
schools have resorted to teaching to the standardized tests. Effective school advocates believe that
the country should pay less attention to racial issues and student racial composition of schools and
instead concentrate on academic quality only (Newman, 2006). I do not agree. I do not feel that
school success is an all or nothing venture where we have to decide between concentrating only on
academic quality or multicultural issues. Instead, I think that concentrating on multiculturalism
issues, such as racial issues and racial composition of schools, creates a nurturing and supportive
environment thereby improving academic quality. Although educationis often promoted as a
pathway out of poverty, American educational disparities are such that the families with the
greatest need are often relegated to the least adequate educational resources (Sue Sue, 2013). 60
years after de jure segregation was outlawed, schools are almost as segregated as they were before
desegregation (Hannah Jones, 2014). Such segregation is sometimes called

Social Criticism in the Hollywood Melodramas of the...
Social Criticism in the Hollywood Melodramas of the Fifties
In the early 1950s the films of Douglas Sirk led the way in defining the emerging genre of the
Hollywood melodrama. Melodrama strictly means the combination of music (melos) and drama,
but the term is used to refer to the popular romances that depicted a virtuous individual (usually a
woman) or couple (usually lovers) victimized by repressive and inequitable social circumstances
(Schatz 222). Sirk s films were commercially successful and boosted the careers of stars like
Lauren Bacall, Jane Wyman, and Rock Hudson, who was in seven of Sirk s thirteen American
films (Halliday 162 171). Although critics in the fifties called the films trivial and campy and

The visual aspects of Imitation of Life are more discreet; the color is slightly more realistic, in part
because the newer Eastman color technology was used instead of Technicolor (Bordwell 357). The
outdoor scenes are lavish but authentic, due to the larger budget of the film and the desire not to
draw as much attention away from the more complex and socially important plot.
Visual realism, however, was never a goal of melodrama. In fact, melodramas had a variety of
visual techniques designed to remind the audience that they weren t real. Extreme high and low
camera angles, the placement of large objects in the foreground, visual blocks (like columns)
separating characters, and non natural lighting were jarring to the audience and were a
manifestation of the inner tensions of the characters (FilmFrog 5). The idea behind these tactics
was that As soon as the audience is reminded that they are watching a contrived reality, that only
within this artificial world are social problems worked out so neatly, the prosocial fiction is cast in
doubt (Schatz 249). But this most likely was not the true effect on most audiences, who although
they may have understood the social issues presented, probably did not pick up on the symbolism
and technique especially since melodramas weren t even analyzed academically until the 1970s
(Klinger 2).

Imagine living in a society in which friends, relatives, and neighbors were killed and discriminated

The Importance Of Ethnicity In Schools
Teaching students about their ethnicity or even others should be enforced by the Board of
Education directors in high schools. American School Boards should mandate a curriculum that
provides multicultural and ethnic studies programs for their students. This allows our American
youth to have a wider perspective on human interaction and historical events that lead to world we
currently live in. More specifically, in American history, it provides a foundational understanding
of the numerous ethnic backgrounds that help shape this country into a pillar of freedom for the
world to see. America was built by people from all over the globe and this historical fact is the
primary reason our educational programs should include an understanding of all the cultures that
played a role in its success.
As a child I gained limited knowledge about other ethnicities, including from my own through
family and small circles of friends. Now that I m in college I m embarrassed by the fact that I
know so little about my own ethnic background as well as others. It s one matter to not know much
about other ethnic groups, but to not know about my own makes me feel like I m letting myself
down. Schools are meant to teach kids things they will need to know for in the future such as math,
reading, writing, science, and history. So, if ethnic studies teaches kids race, ethnicity, nation,
gender and sexuality, isn t that something kids will need to know more about in the future. Leaning

The Role Of Mary Warren In The Crucible
Mary Warren, like many of the other characters in Arthur Miller s The Crucible, shows great
internal conflict with fear through their actions that play a large role in the Salem Witch Trials.
Mary Warren is a very shy, naive and lonely seventeen year old girl. Although she has a clear
sense of honesty and guilt, she winds up playing a significant role in the trials. Mary Warren does
not show up in the play as much as the other characters, but Arthur Miller uses her to portray a
bigger and more important idea. Through Mary Warren, Arthur Miller shows how people are
greatly manipulated by fear which holds a substantial amount of control over them and their
actions, affecting the events of mass hysteria. Like many others, one of Mary s greater fears

Abigail, they will surely turn against her and accuse her of witchcraft. Although Mary is the
oldest in the group, Abigail gains control over her by using Mary s fear to her advantage.
Another example, while speaking with Mr.Proctor after the arrest of Goody Proctor, Mary
exclaims: I cannot, they ll turn on me (80). There are multiple moments where Mary wants to put
a stop to all this nonsense but the fear overpowers her. Not only does fear of witchcraft control her

Characteristics Of King Henry VII
King Henry VII s reign from Christine Carpenter In Medieval times rulers were expected to
follow a strict set of rules, which determined how the ruler s subjects viewed him. Some of the
characteristics looked for in a good ruler were trust in the nobility, having a royal heir, respect
for the law, obedience to the church, and many others. In this paper Christine Carpenter
examines Henry VII according to common medieval standards and describes some of his
weaknesses which lead to him being seen as an unsuccessful ruler at the time and being disliked
by many of his subjects. She also mentions where she got the information to come to these
conclusions, which leaves us to decide if we want to believe these claims or not. Henry VII was
not a successful ruler according to medieval standards. Not many people have set out the time to
study Henry VII reign in England, because of how unsuccessful he was. During this time there is
little to no official records from the courts, which leads us to believe this wasn t a promising time.
As a result of the loss of records, this time period is not very researched and there is still much
which is unknown. Henry is known for his, inflated ego and matrimonial adventures which
ultimately determined how he would rule England. Henry wanted to imitate the type of rule that
was very common in France, but this was impossible to do in England. This French style of control,
included a strong control on the nobility and a bureaucracy that showed

Definition Essay – Different Meanings of Private
Definition Essay Different Meanings of Private
Property is a central economic institution of any society, and private property is the central
institution of a free society. This was a quote by David Friedman (Friedman). The word dealt with
in this essay is private and this quote exactly examines one of the prime meanings of private. The
main aim of my essay is to explain the different meanings of the word private and to explain the
significance and variations of its usage over the past decades.
My research regarding the meaning of the word private was accounted from three dictionaries. The
three dictionaries that have been selected are Webster s New World dictionary of the American
language (1961), Webster An American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third one was A soldier below the rank of a non commissioned officer. Here private is used as
an abbreviation. Now though the meaning of the word private as already stated above are similar to
the meanings listed in the dictionaries, However a noticable change in pattern for implying the
meaning through the decades in these dictionaries.
One major thing that will not go unnoticed is that the dictionaries of the latter half have more
sets of sub meanings for the word and are also less descriptive than the one in the earlier times.
For example in the 1844 edition Webster dictionary it is stated that one meaning of private is
properly, separate; unconnected with others, hence peculiar to ones self; belonging to or
concerning to an individual only and on the contrary in the OED of 1989, the same implies not
open to the public, intended only for the use of private and privileged persons, that belongs to or
is the property of a particular individual; belonging to oneself, ones own. Here we can see what
has been just stated. The meaning of the word private in the OED is not very descriptive but is
more like an order of sub points.
Private in day to day life has two major uses and the use depends on the context that the word is
being used. Private could be used in suggesting someone s privacy or it could imply an
organization which is not public. Like in colleges, dorm rooms, houses people tend to use this word

Essay about Daniel Keys Flowers For Algernon
CHARLY
The book Flowers For Algernon , by Daniel Keys was written in 1961. Later, Richard Heynes
decided to produce the movie in 1968 properly called Charly . There are both similarities and
differences between the two. However, the differences play a more crucial role between the two
rather then the similarities.
One major difference between the movie and book is the events that took place. One example is
when Charly met Fay. This never happened in the movie. But in the movie, when he met her he let
all of his inner feeling out into the open and had a great time. In the movie he only went away for
awhile and even then he only had what seemed to be a few short flings. With Fay, Charly was able

Donner s bakery he was never harassed by the new employee. This was when Joe Carp and the
other realized that Charly was back to his old self. Joe Carp roughed up the bully and got him fired
for his actions directed at Charly.
Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions taken by the
characters. One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted as a quiet, non aggressive
person, but in the movie she is very much the opposite in character. For one, she never really
made a move towards Charly, however, in the movie, she is the more aggressive between the
two. Also, towards the end of the movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even
happened in the novel at all. Charly is another character who is given different traits and actions
in the movie then the book. In the book, he is a kind, warm hearted man who couldn t harm a
fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to sexually assault Alice. In the book he never ever
would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice. Also, he got very upset when he found out
that he failed one of the tests given to him at the laboratory. He could have cared less if he failed
in the book. Charly s family is something else that was never mentioned in the movie, and it s
probably the most important difference of them all. It is the most important because of the fact that
when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal of happiness

Companionship In Frankenstein
Companionship A friend is defined as a person whom one knows and trusts. In every society in the
world, people have this essential relationship and need it. In some societies this relationship is
given more importance than others, such as family relationships. In today s society, friends are
given almost the same attention as ones family member. Family is the closest relationship a person

In Frankenstein, The Creature asks Victor to make him a companion just like him: I demand a
creature of another sex, but as hideous as myself; the gratification is small, but it is all that I can
receive, and shall content me (Shelley 148). This shows that The Creature is lonely, and is
looking for someone to keep him company. It is very lonely for the creature, and not just
because the monster is shunned and hated by all mankind (Shelley 147). He s shunned and
hated by all womankind, too: Shall each man, he says, find a wife for his bosom, and each beast
have his mate, and I be alone? (Shelley 172). He begs Frankenstein to make him a mate, and he
really seems sincere when he says that he s just planning to move to South America and eat
acorns and berries (Shelley 148). The creature knows the human race offers no consolation to
him so he wants a mate like him. People run, scream, or try to kill him whenever they see him.
Celie also has a need for companionship. In The Color Purple, A key role in the book seems to
be a sense of recognition to Celie. She gains proper respect from others and makes friends due to
her courage and standing up for herself. As Celie states: I don t know nothing bout it, I say to
Shug. I don t know much she say (Walker 113). This statement shows that Celie is beginning to

2) Invest money towards developing WBL into UBL:Seeing the current debt in the business, the
current demographic data, market trend and the required investment to develop from now, it
can only be expected to break even in the next 5 years. Investing more money whilst staying in
debt seems a risky way to take (profit 506.32% of the monthly average in 2009), with investment
of $850,000. 3) Invest money towards developing WBL into KFA:Using this business plan, even
though the investment would be late, it would take another 3.5 years for WBL to break even,
considering profit as $6100 per month (profit 359.1% of the monthly average in 2009) and an
investment of $240,000. 4) Implement team restructuring, cost cutting and marketing strategies: a.
Seeing that Gary Spalding is ageing, a part time stand in needs to be recruited and Gary s soft
and hard skills are transferred to him gradually. b. Business hours should be analysed in order to
understand the non productive hours. In these hours, 80% of the electrical equipments can be
turned OFF. These hours can be utilised in making stand in training programs to ensure the self
sustainability of WBL c. Marketing strategies should be restructured and customer capturing
schemes be initiated. WBL vouchers can be printed with Train/Bus route maps on the back side.
These pocket maps can be made available at various outlets. d. F B section can be improved by

Comparing God And Chandler s The Gospel In The Air
In The Gospel in the Air the author describes to us the creation of man, the fall, redemption and
consummation. The author goes into detail describing God s plan in creation, explaining to us how
before going any further we must understand his plan. Everyone has their own views about God and
Chandler understands that, but explains that even though we may all have different views we
cannot change the fact that Godcreated all things for his own glory. The gospel occurs in the
context of the fall making it good news. The gospel was written because of our sins. He goes on
to talk about how all we really want in life is real satisfaction. He also starts talking about, The first
thing we should see is that the Old Testament views future redemption as a restoration of life in
creation .
His goal was to have us understand the gospel plan from God s point of view but while reading this
book i disagreed with some of Chandlers opinions or maybe it was just peer ignorance on my part.

It is a change of mind and heart. It gives you a chance to free yourself from all bad and start over.
once you acknowledge your mistakes and sins and you accept them is the best time to ask for
repentance. It includes turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness. It is motivated
by love for God and the sincere desire to obey His commandments. There is an evil power that
fights with you to make you think you cannot repent,Satan, but he should not have that kind of
power over you. Like everything else there is requirements, and all repentance will be accepted if
all the requirements are meet. the sooner you repent after you have sinned the sooner you start your
way back on the right path. If you delay repentance, you may lose blessings, opportunities, and
spiritual guidance. You may also become further entangled in sinful behavior, making it more

To Kill A Mockingbird Prejudice Quotes
Prejudice in the 1930 s destroyed many African Americans chances at a normal life, how does
Harper Lee show that in To Kill a Mockingbird ? Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird is a story
depicting a family (Atticus, Scout, and Jem) living in the fictional town of Maycomb county, and
a world of racism. Harper Lee shows in To Kill A Mockingbird
how biases of skin color won over
jurys and policemen, the hard living conditions that the African Americans had to go through, and
the outcomes of whites who were against the prejudice.
First of all, the living conditions after African Americans were freed weren t the best, houses
were often shacks with walls made out of scrap. The First purchase, a local church the African
Americans had bought with their first wages, hence the name. Harper Lee showed the poverty by
writing this, A few graves in the cemetery were marked with crumbling tombstones ; newer ones
were outlined with brightly colored glass and broken coca cola bottles. (119) This quote from the
book shows how poor the African Americans really were, couldn t pay for new graves, or even

My Experience At My Church
Have you ever felt like you were getting called upon to do something? I ve experienced this after
my dad passed away. I felt God calling me to serve my church. I started to become more active in
my church s faithful followers group. I felt God come into my life. I got the chance to go on this
amazing tripthat changed my life around.
I was sitting in my confirmation class on Sunday afternoon, when my teacher, Melanie, was talking
about all the upcoming events. She had an eye catching video about the National Catholic Youth
Conference or NCYC. The group from two years about created the video. They went into detail of
what we d get out of the trip. The thing that stuck out the most was the unique feeling of God s
presents. It was time to pay for our spot on this trip. The cost was $50, so you would have a seat
on the bus. This frightened me because I didn t know if I wanted to go for sure. I was going to
be around 200,000 other people, only seven being ones from my church. Preparing for this trip
was time consuming. We had to dedicate all our free time this summer to setting up fundraisers.
The trip was $510 per person. Our fundraising consisted of selling Pastry Puffins, bake sales, and
50/50 tickets. Also there were people who would donate so they could get a free pancake
breakfast out of the deal. We had meetings on top of meetings. We had to think of every possible
thing we could to make this trip possible. We discussed trading items for weeks. We finally figured

There are 3 necessary steps/types that are crucial to forming a lasting memory. Step 1: sensory
memory, step 2: short term memory, and step 3: long term memory. These are the three types of
memory that are needed to build a lasting memory. Sensory memory is the shortest memory in the
shortest term memory element. One of the types of memory allows you to remember information
through the 5 senses. The brain will remember anything that happened from 1 second to 60
seconds using the sensory part of your memory. An example of sensory memory is: I got hit in the
head with a purple yo yo. After sensory memory comes the short term memory. Short term memory
acts as a scratch pad for temporary recall. Short term memory holds small amounts of information.
Anything something that took place in front of your eyes for longer than 60 seconds, the short
term memory section of the brain will remember it. This section of your brain will allow you to
recall that information in the next few hours or days. An example of short term memory is: time on
the clock 10 minutes ago. Lastly, comes long term memory. Long term memory, is used to store

It like to be a Black Girl by Patricia Smith. The works focus on the psyche of two women of
African descent, plagued by the historical American public perceptions of their culture. These
negative perceptions play an important part of the individual s psyche due to prejudice. It has
misconstrued and distorted the minds of these young African Americangirls. These poems show

aware of her new body. She has not been able to embrace these changes due to her disappointment
in the color of her skin. Her lack of self confidence leaves her vulnerable to the unwanted advances
of the opposite sex. She has not had someone to take the time and explain why the changes are
happening or what they mean.
The opposite is true for the girl in Child of the Americas . This girl is growing into a woman that
likes that she is different. Spanish is my flesh, Ripples from my tongue, lodges in my hips: the
language of garlic and mangoes, the singing of poetry, the flying gestures of my hands . (Morales

sharp tongue and quick witt that she has developed. She embraces that her hips are curvy and her
body is that of a beautiful woman; brought on by her heritage. She is a sassy multicultural woman.

Prejudice In America
For century s man s thoughts, ideals, perceptions, and actions have caused tumultuous inquiraries.
We as a society have learned to accept discrimination, prejudice, and stereotyping. These
malefactors have caused great malice. Consequently, these dehumanizing practices are not only
present in America which is considered to be the melting pot , but globally. Everyone is eccentric
in their own way. We all have the God given right, and the natural right to habitat, in peace and
harmony, and to be free of afflictions from others. Our Forefathers did not have discrimination,
prejudice, or even stereotyping in mind when it came to building up America. In fact these
cancerous inklings imbrue the very fabric that America was made of. Discrimination,... Show more

We as a whole tend to turn a blind eye when it comes to discrimination, prejudice, and
stereotyping. What about our young generation of today, and years to come? If there was ever
more of a reason to eradicate these monsters, this is one. More tougher laws need to be
implemented concerning these disruptive practices. It is our duty as citizens to stop any injustices
that may occur. Individuals need to adopt the mind frame of appreciation of other individuals from
different cultures. We have been stuck in the mindset that our culture is the best culture, when in
fact there is not any one culture that is superior then any one culture. Start teaching our young
people that violence, and hate of any sort, is not acceptable by any means. Also, we need to
educate ourselves more on these topics and learn effective ways to change our society for the good

First Published In Life Magazine S, World S Highest Standard
First published in Life Magazine s, World s Highest Standard of Living became instantly
recognizable to many Americans during the Great Depression for its starkly ironic juxtaposition
of an idealized America alongside the grimmer aspects of everyday reality. By looking at Figure
1. The American Way by Margaret Bourke White, we can see the contrast between the
advertisement and the people in line, which most people do not see. This is important because it
emphasizes the crisis following the Great Ohio River flood of 1937. Margaret Bourke White was a
photographer based in Cleveland, Ohio that can be primarily described as an industrial
photographer. Her photographs focused on the human side of news, depicting the hardship that

In contrast, the people in line are dressed in dark colors and none of them are smiling. This

attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD (Morris 1). ADHD is defined as a constant
issue with hyperactivity, lack of focus, inability to control behavior, or a combination of these
(Berger 1). In order to quell the difficulties caused by ADHD, parents will usually resort to
sending their child to a physician to prescribe a specific medication. These medications serve a
great purpose, but also include numerous unwanted side effects. As of 2010, 48 percent of 325

The minority of physicians prefer non stimulants as a solution. 38% of 365 physicians who
completed a survey concluded that they preferred to prescribe a nonstimulant (Collingwood 2).
The primary issue with non stimulants is the fact that they re more liable to cause depression and
suicidal thoughts, especially in teenagers, which is primarily why non stimulants aren t the
popular choice. There are two types of non stimulants: norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, such
as Strattera, which affect the behavioral control in the brain, and alpha adrenergic agonists, such
as Intuniv, which were developed to lower high blood pressure (Boorady 5). These two types of
medications are similar in side effects concerning loss of appetite, drowsiness, and irritability.
According to a survey on Treato, Intuniv received a review of very satisfied patients while
patients using Strattera were moderately satisfied. A vast majority of those who used Strattera had
great concern about the formula causing a feeling of depression while those using Intuniv were
primarily concerned with weight gain and drowsiness caused by the lowering of the blood
pressure. Around the age of 15, my parents sent me back to my physician to test a non stimulant,
and, due to the positive results, we chose to try Intuniv. Luckily, with the proper dosage, it actually
worked, and to this day I still take it; of course, there are still some unwanted

This quote was in the second Harry Potter movie spoken by Dumbledore, its not only an inspirational quote but its also my first example on the differences between the movies and the books. Although this quote was in the movie it was not in the book. Even though the movies and the books were about the same thing they are both quite different. The movies leave out a lot of the parts that the books have. Most of which are the parts when harry spends his time at home. • 8. Harley Davidson s Strategic Global Marketing Harley Davidson Inc. Motorcycle Division Case Study Michael Cocce Natalie Dolan MBA 6410 Strategic Global Marketing Curry College Harley Davidson, Inc. was established in 1903 when William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson began producing the Harley Davidson motorcycle in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. By the 1960 s, Harley Davidson was one of the first motorcycle manufacturers and, as a result, they had a complete monopoly over the heavyweight motorcycle market. However, in 1969, American Machine and Foundry (AMF, Inc.) purchased Harley Davidson. At this time, there was an increase in demand for motorcycles along with new entrants to the market. When AMF, Inc. took over, the quality of the Harley Davidson motorcycle significantly decreased at an extremely inopportune time. Japanese manufacturers used this opportunity to break into the heavyweight motorcycle market with great success. As a result, the future outlook of Harley Davidson was not bright and many did not believe that the company would be standing at the end of the 1970 s. Over the course of the years, Harley Davidson executives have done an excellent job keeping the Harley Davidson image alive and profitable. However, the future of the company and market are unknown, and the management team must strategize a future plan in order to sustain the market changes. In cases where inflammation is severe, elevating the leg above the heart is a standard practice. A person who frequently experiences knee inflammation after engaging in activity may need to wear a knee support. A knee support will provide support by compressing the area, and this may help to deal with the inflammation. When Ligaments Are Damaged Ligaments connect the bones located within the knee joint. Damage to the ligament may affect stability after first affecting mobility. The knee may become less and less capable of sustaining a normal amount of weight. Damage to a knee ligament is graded according to degrees (from one to three). An injury that is a grade one will be painful, and it will impose some limits in regard to mobility. After an individual rests the knee for a certain time and performs exercises of strength, a full recovery is likely. A grade three rupture or tear will likely require some surgery before an individual may gain full use of the knee again. The Anterior Cruciate Ligament is typically involved in 40% of knee injuries sustained after playing extreme sports. The encounter with nature, a love tragedy, impressions of a journey, or a play often served as motives that could be portrayed through music by using different colors, sound effects and moods. In this type of music, events are described and as such it is called descriptive music. One of the most well known composers of the nineteenth century of this type of music is Hector Berlioz. Hector Berlioz was born in Grenoble, France in 1803. At his father s request, Berlioz pursued studies in medicine before deciding to live his life as a music composer. His angry father decided to terminate all of Berlioz s living supplies. Thus, while studying music in Paris, Berlioz began his career as a music critic to earn a living. While in Paris, Berlioz saw a play by William Shakespeare, which greatly inspired him. Berlioz composed many musical pieces that were inspired by literature works, such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Damnation of Faust and The Trojans. • 27. The Multiculturalism And Education Policy Multiculturalism and Education Policy How we educate our students is a contentious topic. Many stakeholders have different ideas about what will make our schools more successful. Without going into great detail about the past, it is safe to say the current paradigm is one of standards and assessment. Schools have gone back to basics reading, math, science, and little else (Newman, 2013). In order to be considered successful, schools have resorted to teaching to the standardized tests. Effective school advocates believe that the country should pay less attention to racial issues and student racial composition of schools and instead concentrate on academic quality only (Newman, 2006). I do not agree. I do not feel that school success is an all or nothing venture where we have to decide between concentrating only on academic quality or multicultural issues. Instead, I think that concentrating on multiculturalism issues, such as racial issues and racial composition of schools, creates a nurturing and supportive environment thereby improving academic quality. Although educationis often promoted as a pathway out of poverty, American educational disparities are such that the families with the greatest need are often relegated to the least adequate educational resources (Sue Sue, 2013). 60 years after de jure segregation was outlawed, schools are almost as segregated as they were before desegregation (Hannah Jones, 2014). The visual aspects of Imitation of Life are more discreet; the color is slightly more realistic, in part because the newer Eastman color technology was used instead of Technicolor (Bordwell 357). The outdoor scenes are lavish but authentic, due to the larger budget of the film and the desire not to draw as much attention away from the more complex and socially important plot. Visual realism, however, was never a goal of melodrama. In fact, melodramas had a variety of visual techniques designed to remind the audience that they weren t real. Extreme high and low camera angles, the placement of large objects in the foreground, visual blocks (like columns) separating characters, and non natural lighting were jarring to the audience and were a manifestation of the inner tensions of the characters (FilmFrog 5). The idea behind these tactics was that As soon as the audience is reminded that they are watching a contrived reality, that only within this artificial world are social problems worked out so neatly, the prosocial fiction is cast in doubt (Schatz 249). But this most likely was not the true effect on most audiences, who although they may have understood the social issues presented, probably did not pick up on the symbolism and technique especially since melodramas weren t even analyzed academically until the 1970s (Klinger 2). ... More specifically, in American history, it provides a foundational understanding of the numerous ethnic backgrounds that help shape this country into a pillar of freedom for the world to see. Characteristics Of King Henry VII King Henry VII s reign from Christine Carpenter In Medieval times rulers were expected to follow a strict set of rules, which determined how the ruler s subjects viewed him. Some of the characteristics looked for in a good ruler were trust in the nobility, having a royal heir, respect for the law, obedience to the church, and many others. In this paper Christine Carpenter examines Henry VII according to common medieval standards and describes some of his weaknesses which lead to him being seen as an unsuccessful ruler at the time and being disliked by many of his subjects. She also mentions where she got the information to come to these conclusions, which leaves us to decide if we want to believe these claims or not. He begs Frankenstein to make him a mate, and he really seems sincere when he says that he s just planning to move to South America and eat acorns and berries (Shelley 148). The creature knows the human race offers no consolation to him so he wants a mate like him. People run, scream, or try to kill him whenever they see him. Celie also has a need for companionship. In The Color Purple, A key role in the book seems to be a sense of recognition to Celie. She gains proper respect from others and makes friends due to her courage and standing up for herself. As Celie states: I don t know nothing bout it, I say to Shug. I don t know much she say (Walker 113). This statement shows that Celie is beginning to experience a real relationship with someone she cares about. For the first time in her life she truly loved someone besides her sister. This is when Celie gains self confidence from being with Shug, and with this she finally learned how to stand up to Mr. Albert. We are shown this for one of the first times in the discussion at dinner. At that dinner we really get to see how much Celie has grown and how independent she is becoming. She tells Mr. Albert: You a lowdown dog is what you is what s wrong, I say. It s time to leave you and enter into the Creation. And your dead body is just the welcome mat I ... Investing more money whilst staying in debt seems a risky way to take (profit 506.32% of the monthly average in 2009), with investment of $850,000. 3) Invest money towards developing WBL into KFA:Using this business plan, even though the investment would be late, it would take another 3.5 years for WBL to break even, considering profit as $6100 per month (profit 359.1% of the monthly average in 2009) and an investment of $240,000. 4) Implement team restructuring, cost cutting and marketing strategies: a. Seeing that Gary Spalding is ageing, a part time stand in needs to be recruited and Gary s soft and hard skills are transferred to him gradually. b. Business hours should be analysed in order to understand the non productive hours. In these hours, 80% of the electrical equipments can be turned OFF. These hours can be utilised in making stand in training programs to ensure the self sustainability of WBL c. Marketing strategies should be restructured and customer capturing schemes be initiated. WBL vouchers can be printed with Train/Bus route maps on the back side. These pocket maps can be made available at various outlets. d. F B section can be improved by partnering with local ... I started to become more active in my church s faithful followers group. I felt God come into my life. I got the chance to go on this amazing tripthat changed my life around. I was sitting in my confirmation class on Sunday afternoon, when my teacher, Melanie, was talking about all the upcoming events. She had an eye catching video about the National Catholic Youth Conference or NCYC. The group from two years about created the video. They went into detail of what we d get out of the trip. The thing that stuck out the most was the unique feeling of God s presents. It was time to pay for our spot on this trip. The cost was $50, so you would have a seat on the bus. This frightened me because I didn t know if I wanted to go for sure. I was going to be around 200,000 other people, only seven being ones from my church. Preparing for this trip was time consuming. We had to dedicate all our free time this summer to setting up fundraisers. The trip was $510 per person. Our fundraising consisted of selling Pastry Puffins, bake sales, and 50/50 tickets. Also there were people who would donate so they could get a free pancake breakfast out of the deal. We had meetings on top of meetings. We had to think of every possible thing we could to make this trip possible. We discussed trading items for weeks. We finally figured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
