The Original General Model Of Memory Essay
The original general model of memory was proposed by Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin in
1968. The Attkinson Shiffrin theory of human memory states that human memory can be classified
into three components: sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory (Atkinson,
Shiffrin, 1968). Sensory memory is where sensory information is brought into memory and
maintained by the senses. For instance, when a person perceives an environmental stimulus for a short
time before it fades, the object is still preserved in the memory for a short amount of time. Although
our minds store significant amounts of information through our senses, we still can t process the
majority of it accurately because of limitations of the memory. Therefore, information which can t be
instantly attended to is stored in our sensory memory for a short time (Atkinson, Shiffrin, 1968). There
are two aspects of sensory memory: iconic and echoic memory. Iconic memory pertains to the
memory of sight, whereas echoic memory relates to the memory of sound. Despite the fact that most
of the information in sensory memory begins to diminish, some of the information is attended to. The
information that is attended is transported over to to the short term store, also known as short term
memory . The purpose of short term memory is to remember an insubstantial amount of information
for a short period of time (Atkinson, Shiffrin, 1968). The information stored in short term memory has
a longer duration than

Difference Between Parallel Engine And External Combustion...
Intake stroke
In the internal combustion engine, the piston starts form the top. As the crankshaft rotates the piston
will start to move down which will allow the intake valve to open so air and fuel can flow inside the
combustion chamber. In this process, the mixture of air and fuel gets pulled in the combustion
chamber.
Compression stroke
During this stage, both intake and exhaust valve get closed. Due to this, as the piston moves upwards,
it compresses the air and fuel mixture
Combustion stroke
As the piston reaches close to the spark plug, the spark plug will cause a spark to burn the fuel and the
air mixture. This will cause the fuel and air mixture to explode which will cause the piston to go
downwards again.
Exhaust stroke
This is the final stage of the process where piston will move upwards to release the exhaust gas
through the exhaust valve. At the beginning of this stage, the exhaust valve will open to allow the
exhaust gas to release.
After the final stage, the piston will be left up where it originally stared from so the process can be
repeated.
Spark ignition and compression ignition engines
Both Spark ignition and compression ignition engines are really similar to each other. However they
both have different processor to burn the fuel as they both use different types of fuel types
(petrol/Diesel). Because of this, they both have different compression ratio.
Compression ignition engine are also know as diesel engine as they use diesel as a fuel. In

Multiple Myeloma Essay
What if patients that suffer from Multiple Myeloma could finally have a treatment opinion with the
aid of the immunology hormone, Thymosin ß 4? This hematologic (blood) disease has no cure at this
specific time, but there are some factors that increase the susceptibility of contracting this disease. The
factors include being over the age of 65, hereditary disposition and race also, people that already
suffer a blood disease will probably contract MM. Why is trying to treat MM so important? Multiple
Myeloma is stated as a cancer that is formed in a specific type of white blood cell (plasma cells). The
main role of plasma cells is to secrete antibody that recognizes and attacks germs. These malignant
plasma cells result in an increase of immunoglobulin components, most commonly IgG. This up
regulation of IgG can ultimately cause kidney problems. To fully understand how this hormone may
help patients that suffer from this disease first, I want to look at how the immune system interacts with
hormones. Then, discuss what Thymosin ß 4 is and the effects on the inhibition of MM.
Hormones are important chemical messengers that drive the immune system during the pubescence
period of live. Hormones play vital roles in the body for example; growth, development, reproduction,

Review Of Margaret Atwood s Bluebeard s Egg
Revision of Bluebeard : An analysis of Margaret Atwood s Bluebeard s Egg
Margaret Atwood s short story, Bluebeard s Egg is a contemporary retelling of the original story
Bluebeard that is written by Charles Perrault. Atwood s revision differs from the traditional tale of
Bluebeard in that it takes place in a modern day setting instead of a fantastical environment, it lacks
magical elements and it is a narrative that is told through the third person point of view instead of
omniscient. Bluebeard s Egg explores the themes of, infidelity, ingenuity, concealment, and curiosity
by shifting the fairy tale into a modern, middle classed environment so her readers can find it more
relatable.
Bluebeard s Egg is told in a third person point of view in order to expose Sally s mental movements
which she has concealed through images of fairy tales and happily ever afters. She wants to replace
her normal, non romantic life with her husband Ed to a fantastical one where she is the princess
(Atwood 772). Shuli Barzilai notes the difference in the narrative perspectives between the two
literary texts: Instead of the omniscience of most fairy tale narrators, Atwood uses restricted internal
focalization (192). The comment about internal focalization indicates that Sally is the main focus of
the story. Since Ed never articulates his point of view Sally s statement of Ed being stupid is biased.
On the other hand, in Bluebeard the story is told through an omniscient point of

Social Issues In A Modest Proposal
As a result Ireland was desperately poor country, overpopulation, full, as swift said, of beggars,
wracked periodically by famine, heavily taxed, and with no say at all in its own affairs by David Cody
introduced in an introduction to A Modest Proposal. For the senior project I will be introducing the
topic of poverty and class issue during A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift. In 1729, Ireland was
poverty stricken and well under the impression that there wasn t people who were able to provide for
themselves. The writer portrays a sense of sympathy and the need for a solution during the 18th
century. As a result, Jonathan Swift wrote A Modest Proposal claiming an indication that in order for
families in Ireland to live a standard, comfortable life style they would have to kill the children of the
poor and feed them to Ireland s rich land owners. This idea was brought up to view the fear of
overpopulation, limiting rights of the Irish and the effect of penal laws during the 18th century and in
A Modest Proposal.
As Swift is satirically writing, he introduces an idea that brings up a religious aspect as well as a fear
of over population in Ireland. Immediately, Jonathan Swift conveys a plain argument that is supposed
to help the people of Ireland; with the intention of killing the Irish s children so that they can benefit
the rest of the world. Furthermore, the writer speaks upon the matter at hand there are more children
born in Roman Catholic countries about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

preventing the parents from providing good care towards their children. Although Ireland was a poor

slowly falling apart, so to

Trent s Fourth Day At The Resort
The next morning would mark the beginning of Trent s sixth day at The Resort, and something was
off. Not only did Trent sleep in longer than usual, but he had very peculiar dreams the night before,
and felt slightly groggy. Or was he hungover? He hadn t had too much to drink at the bonfire the night
before. After showering and getting dressed, Trent walked to the local market to get some bread and
jam to bring on the hike. The market wasn t a market in the traditional sense, because there was no
money required, but there was an attendant who marked what it was that you took. That morning,
there was no attendant. The market was practically abandoned. Trent thought that strange but managed
to grab what he needed anyhow. Walking past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yah, you know. Twice a week. Don t you go? Michael asked. Trent remembered what the governor
had told him on his first day; how he would not be required to go. Trent did not want to admit that to
his friends, so he merely nodded in acknowledgment. You know what. I wonder if people get sick and
then are sent home without a word? Alice asked. That idea did seem probable. The small group ended
up going on their hike, perhaps just to take their minds off things and get some fresh air. At the peak of
the mountain, the view of the Paradise Planet was stunning. The island was surrounded by water as far
as the eye could see, but the colors were not as vibrant as they had been the day that Trent arrived. The
rest of that day had been more low key than Trent was used to, and almost a tad boring. The group
didn t do any more activities, and he hadn t heard word yet about where some of the friends had gone.
Feeling tense and slightly eerie, Trent stepped onto his balcony to look around. No, he wasn t going
out of his mind. There were fewer people on the beach, the birds were not singing as loudly, and The
Resort was colder in temperature. He went to bed early that night. Much earlier than he had before.
Trent just didn t feel right. A pounding on Trent s door in the middle of the night awoke him from his
sleep. Groggy and disoriented, he stumbled to the doors of his room and opened them slightly to see
who it might be. Hello? Trent said with a hoarse voice.

Areas that require a conscious effort to ensure that I am a great coach are my need to influence
outcomes and wanting to take too much responsibility for the outcomes. During my recent coaching
experience I have worked hard to only influence the coachee positively rather than directing towards a
possible solution and consciously pushed back at coachees asking for answers to get them to take
responsibility for finding solutions.
I have concluded that my purpose as a coach is to: influence clients to think, communicate and act in
ways that lead to better results in their highest priorities. This purpose gives me clear direction in
terms of which values, beliefs and attitudes are appropriate and which are not.
2.1.2 Executive coaching and mentoring can be used to support leaders from any industry, from any
educational background and from the whole spectrum of views on the disciplines validity. Therefore I
would argue that the practical skills needed to perform effectively need to be adapted to suit each of
these individuals personal needs rather than an application of a general one size fits all model.
Megginson amp; Clutterbuck (2009) refer to this a British Eclectic Model of various techniques and
options to suit each case on its own merits. Although they refer to the whole, I argue that even
practical skills should be adapted.

Food Intolerances And The Negative Aspects Of Food
In the United States almost twelve million people, three million of those being children, supposedly
have a food allergy. From that population, 1 2% are of all adults and 5 7.5% are of all the children in
the world. Some cases get so bad that consumers must go to the emergency room, 30,000 cases each
year to be exact which 150 Americans die from ingestion. Food intolerances affect an even larger
portion of consumers (1, 7). The issue of food allergies is not a topic to be taken lightly about and
needs to be discussed.
Eating a meal is a basic vital activity. However, for some people, unfavorable outcomes like hostile
reactions to foods include toxic, like food poisoning and non toxic responses, which are an immune
mediated food allergy. People with food allergies through oral intake of fundamental food proteins
may evoke reactions such as eczema, itching, diarrhea, wheezing and hypothermia. Over time, healthy
people generally acquire an immune response which lessens the allergic response, but there are still
those who still show signs of these allergic responses to the proteins, unfortunately (14). There are
eight major foods considered allergens: milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, and
soybeans (6).
Diseases that stem from allergies have increased worldwide the past couple decades. Many genetic
and environmental influences have been associated with the development and prolongation of food
allergies. In some cases, food allergies often show unprompted

Islamic holidays vary in importance among individual Kurds.
The Kurdish nation is very proud of its extravagantly rich oral literature, such as poems, tales, songs,

Women In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
In One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, women are often objectified and sexualized.
Regardless of how Nurse Ratched is depicted sexually, the men on the ward never experience sexual
attraction towards her; since she has many flaws both in her physicality and in her disposition,
McMurphy shows signs of a Negative Oedipal Complex.
Due to her big, womanly breasts (6), most men would consider Nurse Ratched attractive; however,
because she is authoritative and accusatory towards the men on the ward, her sexual appeal is
diminished. Her breasts tarnish the ideal of her womanly body and act as a disadvantage to her overall
appearance. The Big Nurse is precision made (6), yet her breasts are not refined; ruining her image as

She is too motherly, strict, and powerful to be considered attractive to any of the men. She runs the
hospital how she would run a home; the men serve as Nurse Ratched s children and do her bidding.
However, she claims power over the men; they have no free will under the smiling flour faced old
mother (37). This makes them resent her as a woman cannot be in control in the outside world.
McMurphy, specifically, cannot fathom a woman who dominates. Because of the concept of a
matriarchy (56) and the Big Nurse s emotionless, robot like exterior, McMurphy experiences
frustration. She refuses to succumb to his game of sexual cat and mouse. The only emotion that Nurse
Ratched expresses is snowwhite anger (41), never does she display warmth, contrasting with the
image of women being hospitable and affectionate. The Big Nurse is tough as knife metal (54) which
makes her machine like and cold. She is cold (5) like the metal a machine is made of, a machine is not
sexually appealing, making her less womanly and more robotic. Due to her robotic tendencies,
McMurphy cannot imagine the Big Nurse in a sexual manner, which juxtaposes his normal emotions
toward women. Because of this, he is frustrated with the Nurse, displaying his possible Negative

important for mountain bikes?
A. Bicycle consumers evaluate bicycles for their technology to include low weight, durable, stylish,
and performance. Consumers are also concerned about price and service. Also the demographic of
peer ownership will influence consumer purchasing criteria. Clearly the college in Colorado had a few
select brands. Some manufacturers are fortunate to capture these traits within their brand. Trek has
successfully secured 24% of the market and is a respected brand.
B. If Schwinn is able to successfully market mountain biking as truly American than Made in America
will positively impact consumer purchasing. As with automotive purchases, consumers of bicycles are
driven to purchase the product that best meets their needs. Country of origin matters greatly when the
quality is lacking. Schwinn will need to market American made the whole time knowing most of their
bicycle frames are made outside of America.

Humanity is Destined to be Maple
I. Introduction
A. First paragraph of introduction
1. Young Goodman Brown is a dark romantic short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne originally
published in 1835.
2. Set in 17th century New England, Hawthorne utilizes this short story to convey his distaste for the
Salem Witch Trials and his great grandfather, John Hathorne s participation as a judge. In addition, he
demonstrates the Puritan idea that all humans are in a state of corruption until you have experienced a
conversion, only sanctioned by God to become part of the elite .
3. It begins in Salem, Massachusetts when young Goodman Brown leaves his wife, Faith, for an
errand in the forest. It is later revealed that this errand is an attempt to seek a conversion in the forest
with the Devil. While on the journey, he learns some disturbing things about his ancestors that they
too have walked the same walk in the forest with the Devil and not only his ancestors but people of
authority and people in the town. Realizing that Faith and himself are the only two not yet initiated, he
looks to heaven and the hell he was in vanishes, leaving him back in the forest not knowing whether it
was a dream or reality. He returns to Salem the next day with a belief that his Christian village and all
of humanity is perverted and so he died a bitter and distrustful man with no hope.

The Human Relations Movement Of George Elton Mayo
Managers throughout history have been interested in studying ways to increase productivity. For
example, Frederick Taylor began the movement of scientific management in the 1880 s. Scientific
management looked to improve productivity through means of scientific analysis of worker s tasks
and work processes rather than the old rule of thumb (Taylor, 1914). Taylor believed that he could
maximize worker efficiency and productivity through focusing on workers specific hand motions and
patterns. After this period, beginning in about the 1930 s, managers looked to take productivity to yet
another level by studying worker physiology and motivation. This new movement came to be known
as the human relations movement. George Elton Mayo is credited with founding the human relations
movement. Mayo conducted an experiment in the 1920 s and 1930 s know as the Hawthorne study.
Two of the main aspects of the study centered around illumination in the work place and varying
levels of break time and work hours (Wickström, 2000). The illumination study consisted of four
different experiments over the course of three years. In each experiement, there was a control group
and a study group. In the varying studies, the researchers experimented with varying levels of light
and varying sequences of increasing and decreasing the level of light ( Hawthorne effect ). Throughout
the experiments, researchers would often find patterns of increased productivity, leading them to

handle transparency. In his article, (Champy, 2008) emphasizes several principles he discovered while
researching organizations for his book, the one that resonates with both my personal and professional
life is to be completely open and transparent. He further goes on to outline the needs of a culture that
embraces and values transparency. Indeed, many experts and professionals agree that corporate
transparency and efficient resource allocation are closely related. The transparency, or essentially the
clear picture, as it relates to resource allocation allows organizations to regularly direct their assets in
the right directions, making it easier for them to be allocated in more productive and useful areas of
the organization. The rationale for this strategy is fairly simple; having a clear picture means
additional assurance for the investing parties Francis et al., (2009). Using the roadmaps created from
the strategic plan, smart leaders easily figure out the risks involved, and take necessary measures to
eliminate or ameliorate them. Similarly, organizational transparency on a whole is equally important
for all the organization s stakeholders, especially potential investors. This allows investors to easily
weigh their options by evaluating any critical information, and also the fact that the doings of the
organizations are there to be seen by everyone

Loneliness in the Lady of Shalott and Mariana.
The themes of loneliness, exile and escape from reality are important aspects that characterize the
works of Alfred Lord Tennyson. During the 1800s, these aspects differentiated him from other
Victorian poets, distinguishing him as one of the most popular poets of the Victorian era. In Tennyson
s poems Mariana, and The Lady of Shalott, the artists express loneliness in their isolation from the rest
of the world. The following essay will compare and contrast the displays of temporary and permanent
loneliness of these artists through Tennyson s use of imagery, repetition, and word painting. Tennyson
s extensive repetition in The Lady of Shalott and Mariana is an important feature in establishing
feelings of loneliness. In Marianna, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tennyson s repetition of dreary in association with various aspects of the poem, such as her life, the
night, and the day, all build up to Mariana s claim, I am very dreary (81). This makes obvious to the
reader the extent of Mariana s loneliness – so has no mended her state of mind. As in The Lady of
Shalott, the fluctuations of the general repetitions play an important role in demonstrating the major
theme of loneliness in the poems. In this sense, repetition in poetry is a form of torture. In Mariana s
case, her repetition of dreary and aweary is perhaps Tennyson s way of brainwashing the reader into
relating to the loneliness of the artist. Similarly, in the Lady s case, the repetition of Shalott and
Camelot show distinct barriers between the artist s world and the real world, in order to infect the
reader s mind with feelings of loneliness from isolation. That said, repetition in these two poems acts
as a self fulfilling prophecy which causes the reader to believe anything that is extensively repeated. In
both The Lady of Shalott and Mariana, Tennyson also uses deliberate stanza structure in order to stress
his key themes. Although the meter of the two poems differ from one another, Tennyson s purpose for
doing so is very similar in both works. The Lady of Shalott is based on lines one to four and lines
seven to nine of each ten line stanza being written in iambic tetrameter, and lines five and ten, most
often occurring as iambic

Legal questions:
This case raises debates about the jurisdiction under lis pendens rule and of the choice of court
agreement. The Austrian Appeal Court, in this case, also stayed its proceedings and consulted ECJ
about determining jurisdiction, primarily focussed on whether the designated court in parties
agreement could pass judgement without waiting for the declaration of no jurisdiction of Italian court
and whether it could derogate Art 21 of the Brussels Convention if the duration of proceedings of the
court first seised was unduly long.
Finding on the Brussels Convention
ECJ held that the court second seised (Austrian court) must stay proceedings despite being designated
in a jurisdiction agreement until the court first seised (Italian court) determined that the Gasser case
was not within the jurisdiction of that court. Furthermore, it is not allowed to ignore Art 21 even when
the court first seised lasted the proceedings much longer than needed. ECJ also accounted for the
importance of stringent compliance lis pendens rule that the Regulation is established based on mutual
trust in which Member States consent to trust other s legal systems and judicial institutes .
Gasser and the Brussels I Recast
The findings in Gasser under the Brussels Convention raised strong objections due to undermine the
autonomy of parties in choosing the jurisdiction for their dispute, which is considered as one of the

Our Comprehensive Synthesis Of Available Evidence Showed A...
Our comprehensive synthesis of available evidence showed a strong association between the LISA and
the risk of late/very late ST and MI during the post imaging follow up. The low incidence of ST events
over 18,145 person months follow up (≈1.4% ST per person year) in LISA group explains the limited
power of previous studies evaluating this association. Our results are consistent with a prior meta
analysis of five studies which found LISA to be associated with increased risk of late ST (OR = 6.51;
95% CI 1.34 34.91)(13). We extended these findings by including 11 additional studies and longer
follow up of previous studies published subsequently. Also, we accounted for variable follow up
period of included studies by using person months as offset rather than the number of patients in each
group. Moreover, as recommended in literature (17 18), we used multiple statistical methods as part of
our sensitivity analysis to assess the robustness of our findings. Our finding stood the test of these
sensitivity analysis confirming a strong association between LISA ( and LAISA) and late/very late ST.
Although we found a significant association between LISA and clinical events (ST and MI), our
results do not establish a cause and effect relationship. The two cohorts, LISA and control, were
unbalanced on one or more characteristics in all included studies. For instance, LISA group had longer
stents and more commonly associated with acute coronary syndrome as the indication for PCI in

They were influenced into this by the Hebrews and took it beyond being monotheistic which already

Christian , which is simply the belief of two different religions together in this case it would be Judi

thinking drastically. Western people truly thought they had a bond with God. This affected their
everyday attitude, they avided by the saying cope instead of hope and they all truly believed in it.
Overall, the Hebrews impacted the western people in a major way. Another contribution the Hebrews
brought that gave them a unique characteristic was the importance of individualism, meaning that they
would live as a democracy and have big beliefs in freedom and individuality which is the way there

The Portrait Of Elizabeth Farren, The Late Countess Of Derby
This formal comparison of two paintings displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Elizabeth
Farren, the Late Countess of Derby (ca. 1790), by Sir Tomas Lawrence, and Madame Aguste Cuoq
(ca. 1852 57), by Gustave Gourbet, brings attention the distinctions and similarities in the approaches
each artist took to present these two women s personalities living in the 18th and 19th century.
Initially the first thing the viewer notes is that, both paintings are full body length portraits of women,
who are focused directly at the viewer. The scale of both women figures, are fairly similar to human
size and their position allows the viewer to get a feel of the uniqueness of each woman s personality,
fashion and style. The portrait of Elizabeth Farren, The Late Countess of Derby, depicts an older
woman of age standing in the middle of a natural outdoor background. Her pose is rather modest, and
natural while, her right hand is holding a fur cloak that just covers her bosom area. She is standing
slightly leaning towards the front. She appears to be very graceful, and symmetric in dimension. The
texture of her hair appears grey and powdered. The expression of her face is calm and innocent,
however the eyes give an impression she stands as a strong female figure. Her cheeks have a natural
blush tone color to them. Mrs. Farren holds a fur beige, white and brown purse in her left hand, with a
velvet blue ribbon attached. On her left hand, the viewer can see she is wearing brown leather

cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment with Osimertinib that gained a wide acceptance in clinical
practice in Europe and US (), One question that needs to be asked, however, is whether testing for
similar mutations in different cancer will be of clinical value. an unknown subpopulation of patients
with CRC will have an activating EGFR mutation, such as L858R, which is thought to activate the
receptor constitutively, regardless of ligand status promoting cellular proliferation and growth. in
patients with colorectal cancer, Targeting activated EGFR, hypothetically, will lead to growth
inhibition of cancer cell dependent on the oncogenic drive of sensitising EGFR mutation. This project
aims to investigate the role of EGFR (L858R/+/+) as a biomarker for AZD 9291 (Osimertinib)
treatment, using SW48 cell line with a wild type mutation of EGFR and Heterozygous knockin of
EGFR activating mutation (L858R/+/+), to investigate the mechanism of resistances if cells developed
resistance and to test the overlap between Osimertinib and AZD5363, palbocidib and selumetinib.

Impact Of Entertainment In Ancient Greece
La vie doit être vécue comme une pièce de théâtre, Plato. Translated to our language this quote means,
Life must be lived as a play. In Ancient Greece, entertainment was very important. The Greeks felt
that entertainment would help them honor their gods. Entertainment brought the people of Greece
together and made them socialize more to one another. All of the entertainment the Greeks created
strongly impacts our lives today. In our opinion, without their creations, we would not have theatres,
plays, poetry, festivals, or even the Olympics. In the Fourth century, the Greeks raised interest in fine
arts. Public speakers gave their lectures about the brilliance and style that an earlier age had spent on
drama and poetry. They also talked about religion and everyday politics. Religion affected nearly all
aspects of Greek life. Families celebrated important events, like birth, marriage, and death, with
prayers, sacrifices, and rituals. There were many religious festivals, but they were not really
entertainment. The most important form of entertainment would be poetry. Poetry was based on
storytelling, which captured exciting and tragic events. This spiraled into more emotional and personal
stories turning them into poetry. Poetry almost became a second religion to the people of Greece. To
the Greeks, poetry became their first resort to reflect on their feelings and remember daily events that
had happened. Bards, who are professional storytellers would go from place to place and recite poems
to groups of people. This form of entertainment lasted for thousands of years. It is because of this
form of entertainment that we now have Greek Myths. Music was probably the second most important
form of entertainment. Stated by Plato, Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to
the imagination, and life to everything. Music was important to the Greeks, if a man had something
important to say, he often said it in verse. This meant that he would sing it in song. Almost all Greek
poetry was sung or spoken to music. The music would be accompanied by a flute or lyre, as they were
the most popular type of instrument. Young boys would learn how to play the lyre. Once they learned
how to play the

Some well known, legendary samurai known today are Miyamoto Musashi and Ito Ittosai, both
notable for their undefeated records in combat. The samurai came into conception in the early 10th
century, of men who ascended from numerous clans. They were provincial warriors servicing
aristocrats and eventually the samurai class achieved equal status with that of aristocracy and then
amassed enough power claiming hegemony over them. The samurai eventually became too powerful
they set up a Bakufu government and ordered the Emperor to grant the dominant samurai clan leader,
the title of SHogun (Similar in vain to that of Generalissimo). There is a notable style of change that
underwent between the earlier samurai who were scattered across the regions and engaged in
individual combat to eventually banding together and working underneath a daimyo in each region.
Usually associated with using long and imposing swords, these killing tools were not always their
weapon of choice. The samurai first heavily utilized bow and arrows transitioning to swords and then
with the advent of trade from groups like the Dutch, began to use firearms. However, the samurai
sword continues to be an endearing symbol and weapons that is closely associated to samurai that still

The Death Of Mary Brown
Statement of Facts On January 1, 2011, Mary Brown (victim) went jogging at 7:00 pm on the route
she had been taking for six months and passing the usual houses. Upon reaching 123 Roper Street, a
man, John Smith (defendant) ran out, tackled her to the ground, jumped on top of her, and eventually
pinned her down. Then the defendant, using a box cutter, stabbed the victim in the face, making a five
inch gash just below her left eye. While cutting the victim, the defendant stated, I watch you run by
here every day and I wave hello to you from my window, but you never wave back. You think you are
too pretty to wave at me, well now you will not be pretty anymore. The defendant s neighbor, Mike
Jones, witnessed the attack and heard everything from his yard, but was too afraid to stop the attack.
John Smith has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding. Mary Brown is a 30 year old
mother of two small children that has resided in the neighborhood for six years. She had never met the
defendant until the attack. In the four years since the attack, the victim has endured facial numbness,

The Imaginary Moliid And Tartuffe
Molière: The Satirist In a quote widely attributed to Molière, he claims to have suffered from the fault
of being a little more sincere than proper, a flaw that led him to write satirical plays that have stood
the test of time. Works like The Misanthrope, The Imaginary Invalid, and Tartuffe still enchant
audiences four hundred years after their creation. The reason these plays have survived the rise and
fall of the French enlightenment, when they were written, as well as the trials of numerous
translations, is their social commentary and unique cutting humor that was not merely a dissection but,
rather, a vivisection of the evolving faults and follies of the human race. Molière s literary scalpel was

(Bradby XVI) It was then that Molière encountered Commedia dell Arte, the characters and comedic
style of which he frequently utilized in his plays. Molière s creation of comédie ballet may even have
been inspired by the use of lively music and dance in Commedia performances. (Gaines 95 95) After
thirteen years of admirable success in touring the countryside, Molière returned to a Paris obsessed
with social stature more than finances and appearances more than value. Molière re entered Paris
under the protection of the Monsieur, the King s brother, to perform before King Louis XIV, who
allotted the troupe a share of the Petit Bourbon Theatre. Finding more success in comedy than in
tragedy after the flop of Dom Garcie de Navarre, Molière continued to push social boundaries with his
controversial plays, all the while protected by Louis XIV, who performed in Molière s ballets and even
became the godfather of Molière s son.
Combining his experience and incisive wit with a variety of performance styles, Molière created the
perfect storm of satire. Although the role of raisonneurs is frequently to present the author s viewpoint,
Molière realized that this tool was not the most effective in portraying satire. In his view, satire did not
come from eloquent philosophical truths but from keen and recognizable depiction of public figures,

fact, according to the Flank strategy, the purpose of marketing is to discover needs and satisfy them.
This is exactly what Under Armour has done and what it continues to do. It has been the fuel that
steers this ship to success. Under Armour is deliberately planning its future according to its consumer
base. For example, Under Armour is has recently entered the cross training footwear market by
releasing a very specific product which I will explain later in the paper. When CEO Kevin Plank was
asked as to why he was pursuing the cross training category, his answer was simple: It s the same
reason we went after football cleats, because our customer asked us for it. (Olson 2008) This
marketing concept has not only helped Under Armour grow exponentially, but it has helped Under
Armour separate itself from other sportswear giants like Nike. Nike s philosophy which believes in
telling the athlete what s best for them portrays them as being the loud, stubborn, know it all type
whereas Under Armour portrays themselves as the player friendly coach, who listens to its player s

Social mobility is the foundation of the American Dream. Immigrants come to the United States with
hopes that the social policies and economic opportunities in this country will provide them with a

The decisions taken in the analysis phase are out and out due to the requirements analysis.
Design
Once the analysis is over, the design phase begins. The aim is to create the architecture of the total
system. This is one of the important stages of the process and serves to be a benchmark stage since the
errors performed until this stage and during this stage can be cleared here.
Most of the developers have the habit of developing a prototype of the entire software and represent
the software as a miniature model. The flaws, both technical and design, can be found and removed
and the entire process can be redesigned.
Development and Implementation
The development and implementation phase is the most important phase since it is the phase where
the main part of the project is done. The basic works include the design of the basic technical
architecture and the maintenance of the database records and programs related to the development
process.
One of the main scenarios is the implementation of the prototype model into a full fledged working
environment, which is the final product or software.
Testing
The testing phase is one of the final stages of the development process and this is the phase where the
final adjustments are made before presenting the completely developed software to the end user.
In general, the testers encounter the problem of removing the logical errors and bugs. The test

The Big Mistake: How Darwinism s Inadequacy Has Affected Society Since the publishing of the
iconic On The Origin of Species in 1859, Darwinian theory has held precedence not only in science,
but in education and everyday life. Creationism is ignored on a regular basis by saying, This
explanation is not within the scope of science (Pearcey 169). As a result of its scientific backing,
Darwinian evolution is considered as fact and not as a theory. When thoroughly examined, there are
numerous flaws that disregard Darwinism in every aspect. Contrary to popular belief and scientific
preference, Darwinism is scientifically and philosophically inadequate. It cannot explain the origin of
life, and has displayed disastrous consequences towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With staunch belief in Social Darwinism and survival of the fittest , millions died at the hands of men
like Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, and Pol Pot. According to Richard Weikart, Darwinism was a central
aspect of Hitler s worldview. It drove pretty much everything he did. (Bohlin 61) As a result of
Darwin s ideologies, former Darwinian apologist Denyse O Leary stated that Darwin put racism on a
supposedly scientific basis. In that respect, he enabled the most virulent racism of the twentieth
century. (Bohlin 63) With the consequences and inconsistencies of Darwinian evolution, an
explanation that points to an Intelligent Designer and Creator is the most logical and reasonable
outcome. According to Jerry Coyne, from the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University
of Chicago, there is little evidence for the neo Darwinian view: its theoretical foundations and the

Analysis Of The Book From Aunt Jullia
From Aunt Jullia when we would slowly drive around Memorial and River Oaks to get new ideas and
admire what we saw. You probably know that it takes talent to not over do it, especially when you
have a lot of money.
Barbara then looked directly at the moon and said, Do you think that bright beautiful moon, casting its
light on the plants and creating shadows had something to do with the Creator s plan? Or what
happens when the moon shines down on you, and what does it create or add to your complex being?
Cassie, at the time, wasn t thinking of her self but about Robert Cody and, I wonder what Robert Cody
is like alone, and I wonder why he looks so sad. Tomorrow, why don t you ask Uncle Ignacio that
question, and besides, he would appreciate your interest. You know, I think that Uncle Ignacio likes
you.
***
Breakfast was at 8:30 the following morning on a screened porch adjacent to the kitchen and
overlooking the lake. Cassie was the last to be seated as she made sure that her face was shiny and
each hair was brushed into place. After a small glass of fresh juice made from blood oranges imported
from Italy she looked at her Mother, then Uncle Ignacio, and said Uncle Ignacio, tell me about Robert
Cody.
He was not surprised by the question, and although he knew that his innocent love affair was a fantasy,
and that young love is called that for a reason, he smiled and said I guess I have been jilted again, and
at my age it isn t as painful. At the moment Aunt Martha

Analysis Of Hey Boo, By Harper Lee
Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, never expected her novel to be as successful as it
was and is. Her success from the novel did not come so easily. Lee finally met with a publisher and
editor, Tay Hohoff, in New York after receiving a number of rejection letters in 1957. While living in
New York, Harper Lee s lifelong friends, the Brown s, had faith in her success and presented her with
enough money to take a year off from work to write a literary phenomenon called To Kill a
Mockingbird. The video Hey Boo revealed the meaningful purpose behind the novel, To Kill a
Mockingbird, and demonstrated the major influences it had on the people s and nation s internal
moralities and views during the 1960 s. This film illustrates the

Essay On Gladiators
Gladiators, The celebrities of ancient Rome. Gladiators would reenact myths, legends and epic battles.
(Penelope 12). Taught to die with dignity and honor, they would kill for the enjoyment and pleasure of
the roman mob. Many of the gladiators were prisoners of war, slaves, and criminals who were forced
to fight in arenas, sometimes to the death. Although gladiators were so beloved by ancient Rome and
were an important part of the culture, life in the arena was not as desireable as it seemed because it
was centered around training, women and the games.
Training was a predominant force in the lives of those unfortunate enough to fall into the ludus
(Gladiator school). The life as a gladiator and his training at first concentrated on getting the new
gladiator to the peak of fitness (Alchin 2). Leading a hard life, gladiators had to ... Show more content

Although they would be spoiled before the games, Gladiators often would contract STDs through
sleeping with so many women and the weakened immune systems caused by the STD s would cause
many gladiators lives to be put in peril.
The games were exceptionally brutal and rarely had any advantages. Gladiators were paid each time
they fought and they were allowed to keep any rewards and purses of money (Alchin 2).Many women
spectators would throw money and tokens at the gladiators before the fight as symbols of good luck.
They were expected to die with dignity and honor (Alchin 2). The gladiators were taught how to not
flinch or shield himself away from the final blow with months to years of preparation. The colosseum
was disgusting, they held slaves and wild animals and would often serve as unclean impromptu

Rj Jordan Biography
I can t believe it R.J told himself. At the University of Miami R.J had a unbelievable basketball season
with 24.8 points per game, 8.5 assists per game, and 5.3 rebounds per game. He was a easy first round
draft pick heading into the last game of the season. In the last game of the season his head coach
(Coach falls) had asked him if he was feeling all right before the game and R.J said he felt fine even
though we had a minor pain in his left leg. So when his name was called he ran out to play.
When he got on the court the pain was getting worse and worse. With about 3 minutes to go in the
game R.J ran to the corner three point line got the ball, jumped in the air to take his jump shot and
then.... CRACK! He was on the ground and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The History Of Second Wave Feminism
Second Wave feminism broadened the debate to a wide range of issues: sexuality, family, the
workplace, reproductive rights, de facto inequalities, and official legal inequalities. The movement
was deeply divided by young and old, upper class and lower class, conservative and radical. The
movement focused on means used to strive for equality: lobbying Congress to change laws,
publicizing issues like rape and domestic violence through media, and reaching to ordinary women
telling them how feminism would benefit them. The start of the 1970 s was the beginning of women
taking the reins of emerging media platforms, and using the media as an advantage for protesting and
outreach.
EMPLOYMENT
On September 19, 1970, Women Against Male Supremacy picketed a fashion show in downtown
Minneapolis. The issue that arose from the show was the failure of the show s sponsor (the Star and
Tribune Company) to desexegate its newspapers. Meaning failure to create a unison of equality among
men and women. At this time, women were receiving 57 cents to a man s dollar. The company later
explained the pay gap at a faculty meeting: men needed more money because they were the head of
the household. Stemming from this event, companies exponentially began to use this excuse to reason
both he pay gap, and the unfair employment process. Feminist reformer Vivian Jenkins Nelson saw
this as an opportunity to establish equality in attempt to persuade the company to comply with the
State Act against Discrimination and Federal Equal Employment Opportunity. From this, Nelson got
involved in the Women s Equity Action League(WEAL). Due to repeated discrimination, the D.C.
chapter of the WEAL began to heavily communicate with congress on the unfair employment
measures and payment between men and women. In 1972, Title IX was established in the United
States as an Amendment. Title IX states; No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be
educated from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any
education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
EDUCATION
The issue that lied concerning education and feminist reforms, was the discrimination against girls in
all public

  • 2. The Original General Model Of Memory Essay The original general model of memory was proposed by Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin in 1968. The Attkinson Shiffrin theory of human memory states that human memory can be classified into three components: sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory (Atkinson, Shiffrin, 1968). Sensory memory is where sensory information is brought into memory and maintained by the senses. For instance, when a person perceives an environmental stimulus for a short time before it fades, the object is still preserved in the memory for a short amount of time. Although our minds store significant amounts of information through our senses, we still can t process the majority of it accurately because of limitations of the memory. Therefore, information which can t be instantly attended to is stored in our sensory memory for a short time (Atkinson, Shiffrin, 1968). There are two aspects of sensory memory: iconic and echoic memory. Iconic memory pertains to the memory of sight, whereas echoic memory relates to the memory of sound. Despite the fact that most of the information in sensory memory begins to diminish, some of the information is attended to. The information that is attended is transported over to to the short term store, also known as short term memory . The purpose of short term memory is to remember an insubstantial amount of information for a short period of time (Atkinson, Shiffrin, 1968). The information stored in short term memory has a longer duration than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Difference Between Parallel Engine And External Combustion... Intake stroke In the internal combustion engine, the piston starts form the top. As the crankshaft rotates the piston will start to move down which will allow the intake valve to open so air and fuel can flow inside the combustion chamber. In this process, the mixture of air and fuel gets pulled in the combustion chamber. Compression stroke During this stage, both intake and exhaust valve get closed. Due to this, as the piston moves upwards, it compresses the air and fuel mixture Combustion stroke As the piston reaches close to the spark plug, the spark plug will cause a spark to burn the fuel and the air mixture. This will cause the fuel and air mixture to explode which will cause the piston to go downwards again. Exhaust stroke This is the final stage of the process where piston will move upwards to release the exhaust gas through the exhaust valve. At the beginning of this stage, the exhaust valve will open to allow the exhaust gas to release. After the final stage, the piston will be left up where it originally stared from so the process can be repeated. Spark ignition and compression ignition engines Both Spark ignition and compression ignition engines are really similar to each other. However they both have different processor to burn the fuel as they both use different types of fuel types (petrol/Diesel). Because of this, they both have different compression ratio. Compression ignition engine are also know as diesel engine as they use diesel as a fuel. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Multiple Myeloma Essay What if patients that suffer from Multiple Myeloma could finally have a treatment opinion with the aid of the immunology hormone, Thymosin ß 4? This hematologic (blood) disease has no cure at this specific time, but there are some factors that increase the susceptibility of contracting this disease. The factors include being over the age of 65, hereditary disposition and race also, people that already suffer a blood disease will probably contract MM. Why is trying to treat MM so important? Multiple Myeloma is stated as a cancer that is formed in a specific type of white blood cell (plasma cells). The main role of plasma cells is to secrete antibody that recognizes and attacks germs. These malignant plasma cells result in an increase of immunoglobulin components, most commonly IgG. This up regulation of IgG can ultimately cause kidney problems. To fully understand how this hormone may help patients that suffer from this disease first, I want to look at how the immune system interacts with hormones. Then, discuss what Thymosin ß 4 is and the effects on the inhibition of MM. Hormones are important chemical messengers that drive the immune system during the pubescence period of live. • 5. Review Of Margaret Atwood s Bluebeard s Egg Revision of Bluebeard : An analysis of Margaret Atwood s Bluebeard s Egg Margaret Atwood s short story, Bluebeard s Egg is a contemporary retelling of the original story Bluebeard that is written by Charles Perrault. Atwood s revision differs from the traditional tale of Bluebeard in that it takes place in a modern day setting instead of a fantastical environment, it lacks magical elements and it is a narrative that is told through the third person point of view instead of omniscient. Bluebeard s Egg explores the themes of, infidelity, ingenuity, concealment, and curiosity by shifting the fairy tale into a modern, middle classed environment so her readers can find it more relatable. Bluebeard s Egg is told in a third person point of view in order to expose Sally s mental movements which she has concealed through images of fairy tales and happily ever afters. She wants to replace her normal, non romantic life with her husband Ed to a fantastical one where she is the princess (Atwood 772). Shuli Barzilai notes the difference in the narrative perspectives between the two literary texts: Instead of the omniscience of most fairy tale narrators, Atwood uses restricted internal focalization (192). The comment about internal focalization indicates that Sally is the main focus of the story. Since Ed never articulates his point of view Sally s statement of Ed being stupid is biased. On the other hand, in Bluebeard the story is told through an omniscient point of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Issues In A Modest Proposal As a result Ireland was desperately poor country, overpopulation, full, as swift said, of beggars, wracked periodically by famine, heavily taxed, and with no say at all in its own affairs by David Cody introduced in an introduction to A Modest Proposal. For the senior project I will be introducing the topic of poverty and class issue during A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift. In 1729, Ireland was poverty stricken and well under the impression that there wasn t people who were able to provide for themselves. The writer portrays a sense of sympathy and the need for a solution during the 18th century. As a result, Jonathan Swift wrote A Modest Proposal claiming an indication that in order for families in Ireland to live a standard, comfortable life style they would have to kill the children of the poor and feed them to Ireland s rich land owners. This idea was brought up to view the fear of overpopulation, limiting rights of the Irish and the effect of penal laws during the 18th century and in A Modest Proposal. As Swift is satirically writing, he introduces an idea that brings up a religious aspect as well as a fear of over population in Ireland. Immediately, Jonathan Swift conveys a plain argument that is supposed to help the people of Ireland; with the intention of killing the Irish s children so that they can benefit the rest of the world. Furthermore, the writer speaks upon the matter at hand there are more children born in Roman Catholic countries about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He hadn t had too much to drink at the bonfire the night before. After showering and getting dressed, Trent walked to the local market to get some bread and jam to bring on the hike. That idea did seem probable. The small group ended up going on their hike, perhaps just to take their minds off things and get some fresh air. At the peak of the mountain, the view of the Paradise Planet was stunning. The island was surrounded by water as far as the eye could see, but the colors were not as vibrant as they had been the day that Trent arrived. The rest of that day had been more low key than Trent was used to, and almost a tad boring. The group didn t do any more activities, and he hadn t heard word yet about where some of the friends had gone. Feeling tense and slightly eerie, Trent stepped onto his balcony to look around. No, he wasn t going out of his mind. There were fewer people on the beach, the birds were not singing as loudly, and The Resort was colder in temperature. He went to bed early that night. Much earlier than he had before. Trent just didn t feel right. A pounding on Trent s door in the middle of the night awoke him from his sleep. Over time, healthy people generally acquire an immune response which lessens the allergic response, but there are still those who still show signs of these allergic responses to the proteins, unfortunately (14). There are eight major foods considered allergens: milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts, and soybeans (6). Young Goodman Brown is a dark romantic short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne originally published in 1835. 2. Set in 17th century New England, Hawthorne utilizes this short story to convey his distaste for the Salem Witch Trials and his great grandfather, John Hathorne s participation as a judge. In addition, he demonstrates the Puritan idea that all humans are in a state of corruption until you have experienced a conversion, only sanctioned by God to become part of the elite . 3. It begins in Salem, Massachusetts when young Goodman Brown leaves his wife, Faith, for an errand in the forest. It is later revealed that this errand is an attempt to seek a conversion in the forest with the Devil. While on the journey, he learns some disturbing things about his ancestors that they too have walked the same walk in the forest with the Devil and not only his ancestors but people of authority and people in the town. Realizing that Faith and himself are the only two not yet initiated, he looks to heaven and the hell he was in vanishes, leaving him back in the forest not knowing whether it was a dream or reality. • 21. The Human Relations Movement Of George Elton Mayo Managers throughout history have been interested in studying ways to increase productivity. For example, Frederick Taylor began the movement of scientific management in the 1880 s. Scientific management looked to improve productivity through means of scientific analysis of worker s tasks and work processes rather than the old rule of thumb (Taylor, 1914). Taylor believed that he could maximize worker efficiency and productivity through focusing on workers specific hand motions and patterns. After this period, beginning in about the 1930 s, managers looked to take productivity to yet another level by studying worker physiology and motivation. This new movement came to be known as the human relations movement. George Elton Mayo is credited with founding the human relations movement. Mayo conducted an experiment in the 1920 s and 1930 s know as the Hawthorne study. Two of the main aspects of the study centered around illumination in the work place and varying levels of break time and work hours (Wickström, 2000). The illumination study consisted of four different experiments over the course of three years. In each experiement, there was a control group and a study group. • 22. Corporate Transparency And Efficient Resource Allocation Introduction A successful organization depends on a solid strategic plan that includes how it intends to handle transparency. In his article, (Champy, 2008) emphasizes several principles he discovered while researching organizations for his book, the one that resonates with both my personal and professional life is to be completely open and transparent. He further goes on to outline the needs of a culture that embraces and values transparency. Indeed, many experts and professionals agree that corporate transparency and efficient resource allocation are closely related. The transparency, or essentially the clear picture, as it relates to resource allocation allows organizations to regularly direct their assets in the right directions, making it easier for them to be allocated in more productive and useful areas of the organization. The rationale for this strategy is fairly simple; having a clear picture means additional assurance for the investing parties Francis et al., (2009). Using the roadmaps created from the strategic plan, smart leaders easily figure out the risks involved, and take necessary measures to eliminate or ameliorate them. Similarly, organizational transparency on a whole is equally important for all the organization s stakeholders, especially potential investors. This allows investors to easily weigh their options by evaluating any critical information, and also the fact that the doings of the organizations are there to be seen by everyone ... In Tennyson s poems Mariana, and The Lady of Shalott, the artists express loneliness in their isolation from the rest of the world. The following essay will compare and contrast the displays of temporary and permanent loneliness of these artists through Tennyson s use of imagery, repetition, and word painting. Tennyson s extensive repetition in The Lady of Shalott and Mariana is an important feature in establishing feelings of loneliness. In Marianna, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tennyson s repetition of dreary in association with various aspects of the poem, such as her life, the night, and the day, all build up to Mariana s claim, I am very dreary (81). This makes obvious to the reader the extent of Mariana s loneliness – so has no mended her state of mind. As in The Lady of Shalott, the fluctuations of the general repetitions play an important role in demonstrating the major theme of loneliness in the poems. In this sense, repetition in poetry is a form of torture. In Mariana s case, her repetition of dreary and aweary is perhaps Tennyson s way of brainwashing the reader into relating to the loneliness of the artist. Similarly, in the Lady s case, the repetition of Shalott and Camelot show distinct barriers between the artist s world and the real world, in order to infect the reader s mind with feelings of loneliness from isolation. That said, repetition in these two poems acts as a self fulfilling prophecy which causes the reader to believe anything that is extensively repeated. In both The Lady of Shalott and Mariana, Tennyson also uses deliberate stanza structure in order to stress his key themes. Although the meter of the two poems differ from one another, Tennyson s purpose for doing so is very similar in both works. The Lady of Shalott is based on lines one to four and lines seven to nine of each ten line stanza being written in iambic tetrameter, and lines five and ten, most often occurring as iambic ... • 25. Our Comprehensive Synthesis Of Available Evidence Showed A... Our comprehensive synthesis of available evidence showed a strong association between the LISA and the risk of late/very late ST and MI during the post imaging follow up. The low incidence of ST events over 18,145 person months follow up (≈1.4% ST per person year) in LISA group explains the limited power of previous studies evaluating this association. Our results are consistent with a prior meta analysis of five studies which found LISA to be associated with increased risk of late ST (OR = 6.51; 95% CI 1.34 34.91)(13). We extended these findings by including 11 additional studies and longer follow up of previous studies published subsequently. Also, we accounted for variable follow up period of included studies by using person months as offset rather than the number of patients in each group. Moreover, as recommended in literature (17 18), we used multiple statistical methods as part of our sensitivity analysis to assess the robustness of our findings. Our finding stood the test of these sensitivity analysis confirming a strong association between LISA ( and LAISA) and late/very late ST. Although we found a significant association between LISA and clinical events (ST and MI), our results do not establish a cause and effect relationship. The two cohorts, LISA and control, were unbalanced on one or more characteristics in all included studies. For instance, LISA group had longer stents and more commonly associated with acute coronary syndrome as the indication for PCI in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Initially the first thing the viewer notes is that, both paintings are full body length portraits of women, who are focused directly at the viewer. The scale of both women figures, are fairly similar to human size and their position allows the viewer to get a feel of the uniqueness of each woman s personality, fashion and style. • 31. Impact Of Entertainment In Ancient Greece La vie doit être vécue comme une pièce de théâtre, Plato. Translated to our language this quote means, Life must be lived as a play. In Ancient Greece, entertainment was very important. The Greeks felt that entertainment would help them honor their gods. Entertainment brought the people of Greece together and made them socialize more to one another. All of the entertainment the Greeks created strongly impacts our lives today. In our opinion, without their creations, we would not have theatres, plays, poetry, festivals, or even the Olympics. In the Fourth century, the Greeks raised interest in fine arts. Public speakers gave their lectures about the brilliance and style that an earlier age had spent on drama and poetry. They also talked about religion and everyday politics. Religion affected nearly all aspects of Greek life. Families celebrated important events, like birth, marriage, and death, with prayers, sacrifices, and rituals. There were many religious festivals, but they were not really entertainment. The most important form of entertainment would be poetry. Poetry was based on storytelling, which captured exciting and tragic events. This spiraled into more emotional and personal stories turning them into poetry. Poetry almost became a second religion to the people of Greece. To the Greeks, poetry became their first resort to reflect on their feelings and remember daily events that had happened. Bards, who are professional storytellers would go from place to place and recite poems to groups of people. This form of entertainment lasted for thousands of years. It is because of this form of entertainment that we now have Greek Myths. Music was probably the second most important form of entertainment. Stated by Plato, Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything. Music was important to the Greeks, if a man had something important to say, he often said it in verse. This meant that he would sing it in song. Almost all Greek poetry was sung or spoken to music. The music would be accompanied by a flute or lyre, as they were the most popular type of instrument. Young boys would learn how to play the lyre. Once they learned how to play the ... Or what happens when the moon shines down on you, and what does it create or add to your complex being? Cassie, at the time, wasn t thinking of her self but about Robert Cody and, I wonder what Robert Cody is like alone, and I wonder why he looks so sad. Tomorrow, why don t you ask Uncle Ignacio that question, and besides, he would appreciate your interest. You know, I think that Uncle Ignacio likes you. *** Breakfast was at 8:30 the following morning on a screened porch adjacent to the kitchen and overlooking the lake. Cassie was the last to be seated as she made sure that her face was shiny and each hair was brushed into place. After a small glass of fresh juice made from blood oranges imported from Italy she looked at her Mother, then Uncle Ignacio, and said Uncle Ignacio, tell me about Robert Cody. He was not surprised by the question, and although he knew that his innocent love affair was a fantasy, and that young love is called that for a reason, he smiled and said I guess I have been jilted again, and at my age it isn t as painful. • 46. Essay On Gladiators Gladiators, The celebrities of ancient Rome. Gladiators would reenact myths, legends and epic battles. (Penelope 12). Taught to die with dignity and honor, they would kill for the enjoyment and pleasure of the roman mob. Many of the gladiators were prisoners of war, slaves, and criminals who were forced to fight in arenas, sometimes to the death. Although gladiators were so beloved by ancient Rome and were an important part of the culture, life in the arena was not as desireable as it seemed because it was centered around training, women and the games. Training was a predominant force in the lives of those unfortunate enough to fall into the ludus (Gladiator school). The life as a gladiator and his training at first concentrated on getting the new gladiator to the peak of fitness (Alchin 2). Leading a hard life, gladiators had to ... • 48. The History Of Second Wave Feminism Second Wave feminism broadened the debate to a wide range of issues: sexuality, family, the workplace, reproductive rights, de facto inequalities, and official legal inequalities. The movement was deeply divided by young and old, upper class and lower class, conservative and radical. The movement focused on means used to strive for equality: lobbying Congress to change laws, publicizing issues like rape and domestic violence through media, and reaching to ordinary women telling them how feminism would benefit them. The start of the 1970 s was the beginning of women taking the reins of emerging media platforms, and using the media as an advantage for protesting and outreach. EMPLOYMENT On September 19, 1970, Women Against Male Supremacy picketed a fashion show in downtown Minneapolis. The issue that arose from the show was the failure of the show s sponsor (the Star and Tribune Company) to desexegate its newspapers. Meaning failure to create a unison of equality among men and women. At this time, women were receiving 57 cents to a man s dollar. The company later explained the pay gap at a faculty meeting: men needed more money because they were the head of the household. Stemming from this event, companies exponentially began to use this excuse to reason both he pay gap, and the unfair employment process. Feminist reformer Vivian Jenkins Nelson saw this as an opportunity to establish equality in attempt to persuade the company to comply with the State Act against Discrimination and Federal Equal Employment Opportunity. From this, Nelson got involved in the Women s Equity Action League(WEAL). Due to repeated discrimination, the D.C. chapter of the WEAL began to heavily communicate with congress on the unfair employment measures and payment between men and women. In 1972, Title IX was established in the United States as an Amendment. Title IX states; No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be educated from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
