The, The Yellow Wallpaper, And Mississippi Native William...
How does one distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy? Can our realities be so complex and unwanted that we are simply unable to grasp it?
Coming to terms with actuality allows us to accept and find who we are. If we choose to neglect and become unaware with reality we may become delusional
to the point of becoming insane. Feminist Charlotte Gilman s (1860 1935) The Yellow Wallpaper and Mississippi native William Faulkner s (1897 1962) A
Rose for Emily both contain extreme delusional characters ( Charlotte Perkins Gilman , William Faulkner ). These characters lose touch with the real world
and slowly begin to exhibit madness. Although both characters are unable to grasp reality, they both express distinct methods that show the severity and
capability of their insanity.
Gilman s and Faulkner s main characters, Emily and the other who is unnamed, both lose touch with reality. In both works, the characters portray this as they
become isolated. For example, in A Rose for Emily , Emily s isolation began when her father died. Emily rarely went out and after her sweetheart went away,
people hardly saw her at all. (226) The death of her father, as well as the death of her sweetheart , made Emily feel depressed, thus causing her to go into
solidarity (226). Shutting herself from the real world made Emily unable to grasp reality. Her reality was the death of the two men. In The Yellow Wallpaper ,
the unnamed character was also isolated, but only because her

Vietnamese New Year Traditions
Vietnamese New Year Traditions New Year in Vietnam is not only a holiday but also the biggest event of the year. It is tradition of thousand years of history. In
Vietnamese, New Year means Nam Moi or Tet Nguyen Dan, which also means the very first morning . Nevertheless, people commonly call it Tet as its short
form. As traditionally, the holiday lasts three days, starting from January first on lunar calendar. However, the spirit of Tet starts on December twenty third,
seven days before Tet s Eve. It is the day people bid the Kitchen Gods, the genies who live in the kitchens and guard the family, farewell so that they return to
heaven and report to the Father God all the good and bad things which have happened in that house. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, Tet is a chance for Vietnamese families, relatives and friends to get together. On the first day of Tet, all members in the family dress up in their
immaculate clothes to visit their elder s houses, such as their grandparents and parents houses. According to Vietnamese traditions, people believe that the first
person who comes to their house on the first day of Tet is very important because his or her destiny can determine the fortune of the family for the whole year.
Therefore, people never come to any house on the first day unless they are invited. Householders usually invite people who have good virtue and success, such
as their children or grandchildren who are intelligent or successful, to come to their house on the first day, so that they bring luck and success to the family. In
some extended families, the chosen children pretend to go out for a few minutes and come back home as if they are the first people come to the house. When
coming home, everyone says Happy New Year to each other. Children give the elders wishes for their luck and good health for the new year. Then they receive
lucky money put in many red envelops from the elders as the wishes for good luck and success in their education and careers. On the second and third days,
people visit their relatives and friends. They give all the best wishes to each other and have a good time together. People generally spend their

The Most Dangerous Game Conflict Analysis
How Does Conflict Reflect Change and Build Suspense
At one point in their life, every person feels fear, but they way it influences varies from person to person. In the short fictional story, The Most Dangerous
Game, Richard Connell uses conflict to incorporate many major aspects to his story. Because of conflict, Connell is able to create a thrilling environment as it
reflects crucial change in Rainsford and builds suspense. In The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford is first revealed as an advocate of hunting, however,
external conflict indicates a change in Rainsford. At the start of the story, Rainsford expresses his philosophy concerning hunting. Be a realist. The world is

Conan O Brien Commencement Speech Analysis
ENGL101 Final
May 15, 2012
Invention
Conan O Brien gave his commencement speech at Dartmouth in 2011, congratulating the graduating class and imparting a few words of wisdom.During his
speech, he appealed mostly to pathos and ethos, being as this was a commencement speech, there wasn t very much need to appeal to logos using stats or facts.
He used pathos to appeal to the graduating students by telling about his falling out with NBC and how he came back to fame with his talk show on TBS. He
said I am here to tell you that whatever you think your dream is now, it will probably change. And that s okay. When saying that, he was telling them that it s
okay to be faced with failure or a change of plans, that it s not the end of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After joking for a bit and really , his audience s attention and loosening up, he went into the ending of the body of his speech and continued into the conclusion
with what you would normally expect from a commencement speech; life lessons and a few personal stories. Although he did give some good advice, he said
another hallmark of great commencement speeches is deep, profound advice like reach for the stars. Well today, I am not going to waste your time with empty
clichés. Instead of using old clichés and timeless words of advice such as reach for the stars he gave more practical advice, like the advice that your dreams
will change some time or another, and that s okay. He concluded his speech by quoting himself from his last program on NBC, by saying Work Hard, be kind,
and amazing things will happen. I feel that this quote is pretty much self explanatory, but very true.
Style
Being true to himself, Conan used humor all throughout his speech, undoubtedly keeping the audience s attention through the whole speech. Being a comedian
and television talk show host, Conan has become well known as a comedian, so the use of humor during his speech was appropriate, and was effective in being
enjoyable and keeping his audience s attention. Through his use of humor and movement, the speech seemed less of a deep, heart felt speech, but more of a
conversational, relaxing and enjoyable speech.
He related to the graduating class by jokingly

Vertical Merger Essay
1. Horizontal Mergers: Horizontal mergers happen when a company merges or takes over another company that offers the same or similar product lines and
services to the final consumers, which means that it is in the same industry and at the same stage of production. Companies, in this case, are usually direct
competitors. For example, if a company producing cell phones merges with another company in the industry that produces cell phones, this would be termed as
horizontal merger. The benefit of this kind of merger is that it eliminates competition, which helps the company to increase its market share, revenues and
profits. Moreover, it also offers economies of scale due to increase in size as average cost decline due to higher production volume. These kinds of merger also
encourage cost efficiency, since redundant and wasteful activities are removed from the operations i.e. various administrative departments or departments such
as advertising, purchasing and marketing.

Vertical Mergers: A vertical merger is done with an aim to combine two companies that are in the same value chain of producing the same good and service,
but the only difference is the stage of production at which they are operating. For example, if a clothing store takes over a textile factory, this would be termed
as vertical merger, since the industry is same, i.e. clothing, but the stage of production is different: one firm is works in territory sector, while the other works
in secondary sector. These kinds of merger are usually undertaken to secure supply of essential goods, and avoid disruption in supply, since in the case of our
example, the clothing store would be rest assured that clothes will be provided by the textile factory. It is also done to restrict supply to competitors, hence a
greater market share, revenues and profits. Vertical mergers also offer cost saving and a higher margin of profit, since manufacturer s share is

Hernan Cortes Essay
Hernan Cortes
Myths are hangups from way back :[1] false or highly inaccurate beliefs that are taken at face value. One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful
grip on the minds of many, and contributed to feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of pure or mixed descendants of Native Americans in the
region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the Aztec Empire by HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. This
paper attempts to shatter one of these myths; namely, that Cortes was an extraordinarily brave and intelligent individual who accomplished an almost
miraculous feat. It will do so by making use of the twin concepts of virtu and fortuna.
These two terms are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both decisions were based on his ignorance of the actual power of the Triple Alliance and the confederation of Tlaxcallan.[7]
Cortes underestimated these two because of his early experiences in Mesoamerica. Although they initially tried to avoid confrontations with the native
communities, the Spaniards had to engage in several battles against a coalition of Maya armies near Potonchan (located in the present day state of Tabasco).
However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons and military tactics.
The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when Cortes arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted
in favor of a strategy of deterrence rather than war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him with a series of lavish gifts
that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8] However, the strategy backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts
and interpreted them as a sign of weakness. Moreover, the great quantity of gold given to the Spaniards made them all the more determined to reach
Tenochtitlan.

What Is The Chinese Parenting Style In The Roar Of The...
Title
Every parent always wants what is best for their children. But what is the best way to go about this? There are so many ways one can go and never know if you
are right or are doing the right thing. You might believe you are doing what is best for your child or children, but other parents don t see that so it can be
conflicting at times. In the essay, The Roar of the Tiger Mom Amy Chua explains with great detail, the many differences between Chinese mothers and western
parents have in the upbringing of their children trying to prepare them for the real world. Amy Chua puts in her own insight of Chinese mothers trying to
justify the Chinese parenting style, however, many western parents would defy Chinese parenting style .
Amy Chua formed a list of the things she would never allow her children to do. These things may seem like the normal thing for some, but seem completely
bizarre for others. Chua does not allow her children to:
Attend a sleepover, have a playdate, be in a school play, complain about not being in a school play, watch TV or play computer games, choose their own
extracurricular activities, get any grade less than an A, not to be number 1 student in every subject except gym and drama, play any instrument other than the
piano or violin, not play the piano or violin (Chua 305). These are just a few of the many things that Amy Chua and Chinese mothers forbid their children from
doing. Many Chinese mothers would most likely agree with these few basic

cookie report Essay
1. Draw a flow chart of the cookie making process (you can hand draw and scan).
See the last page.
2. How long (the throughput time) will it take to fill a rush order of 1 dozen cookie? Assume no other cookies are currently in process. Use a Gantt chart to
help with the analysis and attach the screen shot of the Gantt chart.
6+2+1+9+5+2+1=26 mins
3.What is the cycle time? How many orders can you fill in a night (4 hour period)? Does your answer depend on the size of the order, 1 dozen, 2 dozen, or 3
dozen?
cycle time=60/6=10mins (Bottleneck is 10mins, 1hour(60mins)/10mins=6. It has a capacity 6 dozen per hour)
1 dozen: The bottleneck is baking, which is total 10mins.The first step washing and mixing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why?
If our cost is depend on the ingredients. Therefore, giving discount or not is depend on how much time we spend on the process. For the 2 dozen, we spend on
8.5 mins per dozen. 3 dozen, we spend 7.3mins per dozen. In this case, the time we spend on each dozen is decreasing in 2 dozen and 3 dozen. Therefore, we
can give the discount.
6.How many electric mixers and baking trays will you need? Why?
The bottleneck is baking, which takes 10mins. We can put 3 dozens of cookies in one mixer. Therefore, buying an additional mixer is unnecessary. However,
we should buy trays. The oven only holds one tray each time. From spoon out the cookie onto a tray to pack them in boxes, this process takes 19mins, if we
only have one tray, then we waste time on that. Therefore, we need one more tray if we want to bake 2 dozen cookies. However, just in case, I will buy 3 trays
for future accidentally damage.
7. How can you tell that the oven. From baking activity is the bottle neck? What is the effect of adding another oven in term of cycle time and capacity? How
much in general would you be willing to pay to rent an additional oven (you won t be able to give a number because there is no data on selling price and
costs)?
The oven is the bottleneck, because it takes the longest time to bake, which takes 10mins. Most of the order is waiting for the oven.
It takes 10mins for only oven working.

Chapter 5 Essay
WORLD MUSIC CHAPTER 5 1. Why does the Indian classical tradition dominate the musical image of South Asia in the west? The classical music of India
has gained most of the attention of outsiders probably due to the colonization era that has brought Indo European invaders (Aryan Civilization) into their
territory between 2000 and 1500 BCE due to the presence of rich resources. However, Indian music, unlike the communal music of Africa and Southeast Asia,
is individual and often virtuosic and can be both vocal and instrumental. The Hindustani one (North) is more appealing to the Western society as it is more
instrumental based, whereas the Carnatic (south) one is more vocally oriented. Another factor that attracts the Western attention ... Show more content on

Carnatic music is said to have originated in the Karnatak region of south India. On the other hand Hindustani music is said to have originated in several parts
of northern and western India in different times. While Carnatic music is sung and performed in only one style, there are various styles of singing and
performing in Hindustani music. Each style of school is called a gharana . The number of ragas used in Carnatic music is more when compared to the fewer
ragas used in Hindustani music. It is interesting to note that Carnatic music is characterized by the presence of 72 melakarta raga scheme. Each of the 72
principal ragas is divided into several subordinate ragas. Both the types of music differ in terms of the instruments used in the playing of music as well. While
both types of music use instruments such as violin and flute, Hindustani music extensively employs the use of Tabla (a kind of drum or a percussion
instrument), Sarangi (a stringed instrument), Santoor, Sitar, etc. On the other hand Carnatic music extensively employs the use of musical instruments such as

The Pros And Cons Of Free Trade
Free trade is a capitalist concept that advocates for a seamless and free flow of goods and services that is virtually unhindered by state imposed restrictions or
trade barriers. Over the years, the American government has signed multiple agreements with governments across the world, to encourage trade between the
continental United States and other countries around the globe. Indeed, bilateral agreements ranging from AGOA, NAFTA, and TPP have been signed by
successive Washington administrations, ostensibly to encourage Americans to reap financial benefits from global trade. The open and free trade idea is
anchored on the maxim that no country possesses all the services and products that it needs, at any given time. Countries across the Americas fro instance and
by extension globally have seen a proliferation in the number of treaties and preferential trade agreements by economies to boost trade. In this regard, some
countries are well endowed with extensive natural resources such as oil, gas, and gold, while others may lack them but still need to use these resources.
Nevertheless, the sovereign is permitted under international trade laws to impose certain levels of trade restrictions for valid reasons such as protecting its
infant industries and taming dumping of substandard goods. In this regard, the world is moving towards protectionism with scores of countries imposing tariff
and non tariff barriers as well as the complete ban of certain class of goods from overseas or

Teenage Brains
The brain has the function of making their body work and help with the teens brain daily life. The gray matter is where nerves are located. They are affect the

Going back to the gray matter, the outer layer of gray matter is the frontal cortex. This is where we make decisions and where we do much of our conscious
and complicated thinking. Phineas Gage, a renowned neuroscience patient in the 1800, was hit with a iron rod to the head, yet minutes after he was still able to
move and act normal (Fleischman 6). The only thing was that he could not make decisions. When given a $1000 for the pebbles he collected, he angrily
refused the deal( 19). He was not able to make the decision of getting the money or not. Neuroscientists have learned so much of the brain that has helped us
understand our own brains and the people around us. From this scientist learned that the sections of the brain had parts and functions such as language and

The 200 Year Old Man

Nathaniel Hawthorne, born Nathaniel Hathorne until he added a w to his birth name years later, was a prominent American Novelist that lived during the 19th

(Wright 3) Hawthorne descended from an ancestry tracing back many generations full of devout Puritans. Puritans maintained a unique perception of the

An elder, gravely injured man named Roger Malvin, and his younger, less severely injured counterpart Reuben Bourne, are halted on their retreat as Malvin is
too weak to continue towards civilization. Bourne is forced to desert Malvin, abandoning him below a mass of granite, rearing its smooth, flat surface, fifteen
or twenty feet above their heads...a gigantic grave stone, upon which the veins seemed to form an inscription in forgotten characters. (Hawthorne) The large
stone over the two men has often been assumed to represent the stone tablets of the Old Testament. (Wright 201). Nearing the conclusion of the story, the now
husband of Malvin s daughter Dorcas and father of one, Bourne sets out on a hunting trip with his son Cyrus. Bourne, following a rustling of leaves in a nearby
thicket, blindly fires his rifle into the brush in hopes of killing a deer. Dorcas hurries eagerly towards the sound of the gunshot in hopes of finding Cyrus has
downed his first deer, but instead stumbles upon her husband standing over the lifeless corpse of her son. The thicket is a symbol of deception, introduced by
the devil to trick Bourne.
In April of 1835, three years following the publishing of Roger Malvin s Burial, Hawthorne publishes Young Goodman Brown, another piece that bursts at the

Willy bestows this theory of his onto his sons Biff and Happy during their teenage years. During Biffs High School years he attains the captain position for the

When Biff fails his maths exam during his senior year in high school he loses all hope, furthermore he discovers Willys involvement with another woman after
he decided to pay Willy a surprise visit. This heavily influences their relationship they had as Biff realises the ugly truth and felt betrayed by his father.
Willy has soaring expectations of Biff, however Biff fails to meet his father expectations, and hides his failures from Willy in order to keep him happy. Even
after Biff flunks maths, Willy still believes Biff can make it . He doesn t believe this because Biff is his son, but rather because Biff is a handsome young man,

A Comparison Of John F. Kennedy And Donald Trump
I m going to make America great again. This is the plan that President Trump had come up with to get him elected, and could possibly help America big time.
Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country. This was a quote from our former President, John F. Kennedy. JFK has had a

Elizabeth Barrett-Browning and Virginia Woolf Essay
Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Virginia Woolf
I chose to compare and contrast two women authors from different literary time periods. Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806 1861) as a representative of the
Victorian age (1832 1901) and Virginia Woolf (1882 1941) as the spokeswoman for the Modernist (1914 1939) mindset. Being women in historical time
periods that did not embrace the talents and gifts of women; they share many of the same issues and themes throughout their works however, it is the age in
which they wrote that shaped their expressions of these themes. Although they lived only decades apart their worlds were remarkably different their voices
were muted or amplified according to the beat of society s drum. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Victorian form of inquiry coexisted with a desire toward repairing the weakening foundations of faith. I write so/of the only truth tellers now left to

arguing, in a sense, for sense and for the need to remain accountable to something outside ourselves.
The Modernist skepticism is vivid in Woolf s portrayal of a woman, Isabella, who has not conformed to society s accepted norms and would seem to be at first
glance all the better for it. But, upon closer inspection it is with a sigh of resignation that Virginia recognizes the illusion that her fanciful exploration created

Hades: King of the Underworld
Around 1100 BC Greek and Roman people began telling myths and stories about Heroes and gods/goddesses. This was the beginning of Greek Mythology. At
first people were told stories about Heroes and Gods so that they would have someone to believe in and worship. Then Greek Mythology became a way of
teaching lessons to everyone and explaining natural phenomena. One of the gods that was created out of these myths was Hades. Hades has been called the
King of the Underworld and the Greek God of the Dead. Hades was a very interesting god that, unlike other gods of the time, was not worshipped but rather
feared.

all the perished dead (March 176). Another example of what the people thought of Hades was a Queen, Alcestis, and she claimed from her deathbed, Someone

Health Improvement Strategies For Obesity And The Effect...
This essay shall look at the importance of health improvement strategies in relation to obesity and the effect being obese has on young people. In particular the
focus shall be on overcoming obesity and reducing the risk of problems it could cause for individuals in later life. There are many health improvement
strategies in place for obesity which aim to encourage individuals to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I shall be focusing on in particular an app for
smartphones called My Diet Coach (Appendix 1). The app allows individuals to document their weight loss goals and allows individuals to see how many
calories there are in the meals they are preparing in order for the app to determine how much exercise is needed in proportion to food intake. It also allows
them to see how many calories they are allowed to have day to day based on their height and weight. Apps are a great way to implement health improvement
strategies for young adults as most will own a smartphone themselves.
Obesity is a growing problem not only in adults in the UK but also young adults. Public
Health England (2013) states that in 2007 the overall cost of obesity to the UK economy was approximately £15.8 billion per year with £4.2 billion in cost to
the NHS. Obesity is a particular problem for young adults as it can cause them to be at an increased risk of developing various serious health problems in later

The Basic Principles Of The Elizabethan Poor Laws Of 1601
The basic principles of the Elizabethan Poor Laws of 1601 were local investigation and administration of relief, work as a component of all assistance, and
categorization of the poor into three groups: the able bodied poor, the impotent poor, and dependent children (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 104). Basically, creating a
welfare system to help assist the poor, implementing programs to get people working, and categorizing the poor as worthy or unworthy poor. Examples of this
in the present social welfare system are TANF, unemployment insurance, Social Security, SSI, and SDI. Within the TANF and unemployment program, there is
a job search requirement to encourage people to find work. Also, much like the Elizabethan Poor Laws, people are categorized to receive specific benefits
based on whether they can work or not, like SSI, which is for people who are currently unable to work because of old age or disability. Worthy poor are the
people who have worked, but no longer can because they are aged or disabled , the people who can work if they want to, or can support their families if they
work hard enough (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 10). Unworthy poor is anyone else who has never worked and will not work. It is assumed that these people are poor
because of some kind of willfulness, laziness, or refusal to be productive and support themselves (Longmore, 1997).
Two prominent ideologies that play a role in the development of social welfare policy and social welfare programs are

Instead, it is the Cabinet, composing of the Ministers of State and the Prime Minister, that directs and controls the Government. The Cabinet is the source of
power of the Executive branch, and is formed by the Prime Minister, who is the head of government. It is an unitary state, containing forty seven
administrative divisions, with the Emperor as its head of state. Japan was ruled by successive military shoguns. During this period, effective power of the
government resided in the Shogun, who officially ruled the country in the name of the Emperor. The Shoguns were the hereditary military Governors.

Arguments Against Full Inclusion
One of the biggest controversies in the United States education system is whether or not full inclusion should be practiced in all schools. There are various
reasons why people are for or against full inclusion. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (2012) defines full inclusion as, a popular
policy/practice in which all students with disabilities, regardless of the nature or the severity of the disability and need for related services, receive their total
education within the regular education classroom in their home school (p. 1). Full inclusion is a policy in which the ultimate goal is to eliminate the need of
pull out programs. Students with disabilities are expected to learn and make friends in general education classrooms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When children are separated in schools, they begin to believe that one group is better than the other. More often than not, elementary aged students refer to the
special education students as the mental ones. Although children do not intentionally negatively judge their peers, the segregation in school systems makes
them believe that is why they are separated. Batchelor and Taylor stated, Social interaction within the peer culture is the basis from which friendships develop
(Guralnick, 1981), and is an important medium through which language, cognitive and social learning takes place (Guralnick 1981; McEvoy Odom, 1987) (p.
1). Students need social interaction with their peers in order to make friends and develop social skills. When students with disabilities are all in one room
together, they are not being exposed to the people they will talk to in the real world, and therefore will not develop proper social skills. When regular education
students are integrated with students with disabilities, they become much more accepting of people with differences. They make new friends and learn how to
accommodate for those who need extra help. Keeping children separated plays a role on the reputation and mental health of those with disabilities. Abrams,
Hogg, and Marques (2005) stated, Whereas the experience of inclusion is frequently accompanied by positive emotions, the experience of being excluded
typically leads to negative emotions, including sadness, loneliness, jealousy, anger, shame, and anxiety (Baumeister Tice, 1990; Leary,1990) (p. 64). Children
are not born with hatred in their hearts. They are accepting of everyone until they are taught to hate. Keeping students with disabilities separated from students
without them is teaching students that they are different and one group is more capable than the other. Students with disabilities begin to

River Tees Drainage Baisin Essay
River Tees Drainage Baisin
The river Tees flows from the Pennines in Cumbria, northwest England, to the North Sea via Tees Bay. Its length is 130 km / 80 miles. Its port, Teesport,
handles in excess of 42 million tonnes of water per year. Its main tributaries are the Lune, Balder, and Greta. There are many factors affecting the drainage
baiins of the River Tees, many of these are human factors.
Water Barrage and Watersports: Much of the water nearing the sea is polluted with industrial waste, sewage, and chemicals. The Tees Barrage, which opened
in 1995, enables a 16 km / 10 mile stretch of the river to provide clean, non tidal water. The barrage was built to improve the river s watersports ... Show more

There are several reservoirs in the river basin used to store water to be used for later use. The reservoirs also helps in flood control. Water levels can rise very
quickly following a rain storm. Storing water in the reservoir reduces flooding in the lower course.
Farming and Irigation Water: A major land uses in the upper Tees is rough grazing for sheep. The land is too steep to use machinery, the growing season too
short and the soils too thin and acidic For growing crops and so not much water is needed for irigation in comparison to the River Severn. Only where the land
is less steep is the pasture improved by fertilizers, the occasional crop is grown, requiring some irigation water from the Tees.
Hydro Electric power: There are no power plants along the Tees.
There are also many natural factors affecting the hydrology of the River Tees drainage basin, these include:
Geology: There is a succession of falls, where the river traverses a hard series of black basaltic rocks, the water flows fast her due to the steep down slope, the
impermiable smooth rocks also allow fast flow and no infiltration, and so at times of heavy percipitation the water level at these points in the river will rise
sharply and the power and speed of the river will increase. At flatter areas of these basaltic rocks the river can flood easily.

Legacy Of The Whitlam Government
The legacy of this government was that it instigated major changes in the social and cultural fabric of Australia but it also challenged the philosophy of what an
Australian is and what Australia represented. The late 1960s and early 1970s were times of great change. Perspectives and acceptances about imperialism,
women s liberation, racism, ideology, religion, war, morality, social responsibility and the natural environment were changing for a great many people

affected the youth of Australia.
Another legacy of the Whitlam Government is found in the support and improvements offered to women. Soon after the Whitlam government came to power
issues relating to rights and status of women were either supported or addressed by the Government. This included the rights and requests for equal pay for
equal work, for maternity leave, amendments to the Public Services Act, grants for family planning centres, more affordable availability of the contraceptive

The anti racist philosophy forwarded by the Whitlam Government marked a major change in the ALP and the White Australian ideology. The Racial

politics and the beginning of the multiculturalism policy.

Human trafficking has been an ongoing business that can be tracked many years back. Today it is considered to be modern day slavery and the second largest

people across national borders as well as within countries. Due to the increase of cultural and economic globalization, human trafficking sky rockets every

Due to the some of the factors stated above, I believe that human trafficking will only get worse. In my essay, I plan to discuss how these three countries are
contributing to it, what theory I used to conduct my research and how it relates to the topic, the level of analysis/structure, sectorial processes, and my future
prediction of human trafficking. Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling are often confused. There is a distinct difference between the two. According to the
United States Department of States human smuggling is the facilitation, transportation, attempted transportation or illegal entry of a person(s) across an
international border, in violation of one or more countries laws, either clandestinely or through deception, such as the use of fraudulent documents. Human
Trafficking is the trafficking of persons for the purpose of committing commercial sex acts, or to subject them to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage,
or slavery.
Structure/Level of Analysis/ Theory Although human trafficking is a global issue, the level of analysis I chose was regional. In this paper I am focusing on the
Mekong region, where Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand are located. This region has a high amount of women and children that are trafficked into the sex
industry. The theory I chose for this topic is Kenneth Waltz. Waltz is a neorealist and examines the international system from a top down view. He also looks at

Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) SGT Alexander, Joseph Non commission Officers Academy Senior Leader Course ALC 166 16 Phase 1 dL
Abstract The historical process of creating and implementation of the Military Decision Making Process has changed significantly since World War I. The US
Army did not have a published staff doctrine or guidance to assist commanders in the decision making process. The Regulations for Field Maneuvers (1910),
did not provide staff guidance. In 1914, the field service regulation (FSR) identified the need for decision making processes. The Staff Officer Field Manual
(1932), complied principles, data, and information that was intended to guide the operations of staff of all units and territorial commands. The Staff Officer
Field Manual (1932), was a detailed manual that explained staff functions and more complete commander estimates of implementation time. Introduction The
Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) is a repeating plan of procedures used to understand the situation and mission. The MDMP is used to develop a
course of action and produce an operation plan or order. The MDMP integrates the commander, staff, subordinate, headquarters personnel, and other
stakeholders involved in the planning process. We need the MDMP because it allows the leader to execute orders and planning decisions. The MDMP aids in

Essay On The Conch Shell In Lord Of The Flies
A group of young British boys is stranded on an island with little to no supplies, besides a silly shell, and a fire to keep their hope alive. In William Golding s
Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys were shot out of an airplane and landed on a strange island, all separated from each other. It is a very interesting
novel which includes a series of intense and sad events that all play a part in leading the group of boys to their rescue off of the island. The group of boys has
also come across multiple items which represent a larger and influential idea towards the reader. The fire, conch, and the specs which belong to Piggy. The
symbolic conch shell in Lord of the Flies evolved its meaning throughout the novel seeing that it first represented order, became power, and ultimately a loss of
civilization through the course of the book.
To begin, throughout the beginning of Lord of the Flies, the conch shell becomes a symbol of order and unity. After their tragic plane crash, one element that
brought the boys together was the conch shell. One of the main characters, Ralph, used the conch shell to call anyone else who is on the island, which resulted
in the other boys being found and a tribe being formed. When Ralph was voted chief, he started to create rules that were based around the conch. Ralph picked
up the conch and began to explain the rules, And another thing. We can t have everybody talking at once. We ll have Hands up like at school. He held the

How Ww2 Affected America
How World War II Has Impacted America
World War II changed the course of history starting in the second half of the 20th century. The war began on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded
Poland. America entered the war in 1941, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. America joined the Allied Forces. The Allied Forces consisted of Great Britain,
America, the Soviet Union, and France. The war led to changes at home including food rationing, and women entering the workplace.. In addition, the war had
a great impact on American society. As a result of the war, the United States was able to get out of the Great Depression. At this time, many American citizens
changed their stances on social, and economic issues. Many people still hold these beliefs today. Even though there were many great things that were

For example, Americans still have to pay income tax, and never got out of debt after war spending. However, it was not all bad. For example, telephone

Divergent Competitiveness
1.50 CREATIVITY AND GENERAL MENTAL ABILITY Convergent thinking is defined as the ability to apply conventional and logical search, recognition,
and decision making strategies to stored information in order to produce an already known answer (Cropley, 2006). Divergent thinking, by contrast, is defined
as the ability to produce new approaches and original ideas by forming unexpected combinations from available information and by applying such abilities as
semantic flexibility, and fluency of association, ideation, and transformation (Guilford, 1959, as cited in Cropley, 2006, p. 1). Divergent thinking brings forth
answers that may never have existed before and are often novel, unusual, or surprising (Cropley, 2006). Guilford (1967) introduced convergent and divergent
thinking as part of a set of five operations that apply in his Structure of Intellect model (SOI model) on six products and four kinds of content, to produce 120
different factors of cognitive abilities. With the SOI model Guilford wanted to give the construct of intelligence a comprehensive model. After these new
constructs were introduced and defined, tests for convergent and divergent thinking emerged. Despite the fact that Guilford reported ... Show more content on

Studies on the relationship between both constructs suggest that it is unlikely that individuals employ similar cognitive strategies when solving more
convergent than more divergent thinking tasks (Jaušovec, 2000). However, to arrive at a quality formulation the creative process cannot do without the
application of both, convergent and divergent thinking abilities (e.g., Kaufmann, 2003; Runco, 2003; Sternberg, 2005; Dietrich, 2007; Cropley and Cropley,

  • 2. The, The Yellow Wallpaper, And Mississippi Native William... How does one distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy? Can our realities be so complex and unwanted that we are simply unable to grasp it? Coming to terms with actuality allows us to accept and find who we are. If we choose to neglect and become unaware with reality we may become delusional to the point of becoming insane. Feminist Charlotte Gilman s (1860 1935) The Yellow Wallpaper and Mississippi native William Faulkner s (1897 1962) A Rose for Emily both contain extreme delusional characters ( Charlotte Perkins Gilman , William Faulkner ). These characters lose touch with the real world and slowly begin to exhibit madness. Although both characters are unable to grasp reality, they both express distinct methods that show the severity and capability of their insanity. Gilman s and Faulkner s main characters, Emily and the other who is unnamed, both lose touch with reality. In both works, the characters portray this as they become isolated. For example, in A Rose for Emily , Emily s isolation began when her father died. Emily rarely went out and after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all. (226) The death of her father, as well as the death of her sweetheart , made Emily feel depressed, thus causing her to go into solidarity (226). Shutting herself from the real world made Emily unable to grasp reality. Her reality was the death of the two men. In The Yellow Wallpaper , the unnamed character was also isolated, but only because her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Vietnamese New Year Traditions Vietnamese New Year Traditions New Year in Vietnam is not only a holiday but also the biggest event of the year. It is tradition of thousand years of history. In Vietnamese, New Year means Nam Moi or Tet Nguyen Dan, which also means the very first morning . Nevertheless, people commonly call it Tet as its short form. As traditionally, the holiday lasts three days, starting from January first on lunar calendar. However, the spirit of Tet starts on December twenty third, seven days before Tet s Eve. It is the day people bid the Kitchen Gods, the genies who live in the kitchens and guard the family, farewell so that they return to heaven and report to the Father God all the good and bad things which have happened in that house. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, Tet is a chance for Vietnamese families, relatives and friends to get together. On the first day of Tet, all members in the family dress up in their immaculate clothes to visit their elder s houses, such as their grandparents and parents houses. According to Vietnamese traditions, people believe that the first person who comes to their house on the first day of Tet is very important because his or her destiny can determine the fortune of the family for the whole year. Therefore, people never come to any house on the first day unless they are invited. Householders usually invite people who have good virtue and success, such as their children or grandchildren who are intelligent or successful, to come to their house on the first day, so that they bring luck and success to the family. In some extended families, the chosen children pretend to go out for a few minutes and come back home as if they are the first people come to the house. When coming home, everyone says Happy New Year to each other. Children give the elders wishes for their luck and good health for the new year. Then they receive lucky money put in many red envelops from the elders as the wishes for good luck and success in their education and careers. On the second and third days, people visit their relatives and friends. They give all the best wishes to each other and have a good time together. People generally spend their ... • 5. Conan O Brien Commencement Speech Analysis ENGL101 Final May 15, 2012 Invention Conan O Brien gave his commencement speech at Dartmouth in 2011, congratulating the graduating class and imparting a few words of wisdom.During his speech, he appealed mostly to pathos and ethos, being as this was a commencement speech, there wasn t very much need to appeal to logos using stats or facts. He used pathos to appeal to the graduating students by telling about his falling out with NBC and how he came back to fame with his talk show on TBS. He said I am here to tell you that whatever you think your dream is now, it will probably change. And that s okay. When saying that, he was telling them that it s okay to be faced with failure or a change of plans, that it s not the end of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After joking for a bit and really , his audience s attention and loosening up, he went into the ending of the body of his speech and continued into the conclusion with what you would normally expect from a commencement speech; life lessons and a few personal stories. Although he did give some good advice, he said another hallmark of great commencement speeches is deep, profound advice like reach for the stars. Well today, I am not going to waste your time with empty clichés. Instead of using old clichés and timeless words of advice such as reach for the stars he gave more practical advice, like the advice that your dreams will change some time or another, and that s okay. He concluded his speech by quoting himself from his last program on NBC, by saying Work Hard, be kind, and amazing things will happen. I feel that this quote is pretty much self explanatory, but very true. Style Being true to himself, Conan used humor all throughout his speech, undoubtedly keeping the audience s attention through the whole speech. Being a comedian and television talk show host, Conan has become well known as a comedian, so the use of humor during his speech was appropriate, and was effective in being enjoyable and keeping his audience s attention. Through his use of humor and movement, the speech seemed less of a deep, heart felt speech, but more of a conversational, relaxing and enjoyable speech. • 6. Vertical Merger Essay 1. Horizontal Mergers: Horizontal mergers happen when a company merges or takes over another company that offers the same or similar product lines and services to the final consumers, which means that it is in the same industry and at the same stage of production. Companies, in this case, are usually direct competitors. For example, if a company producing cell phones merges with another company in the industry that produces cell phones, this would be termed as horizontal merger. The benefit of this kind of merger is that it eliminates competition, which helps the company to increase its market share, revenues and profits. Moreover, it also offers economies of scale due to increase in size as average cost decline due to higher production volume. These kinds of merger also encourage cost efficiency, since redundant and wasteful activities are removed from the operations i.e. various administrative departments or departments such as advertising, purchasing and marketing. 2. ... However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons and military tactics. The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when Cortes arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted in favor of a strategy of deterrence rather than war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him with a series of lavish gifts that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8] However, the strategy backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts and interpreted them as a sign of weakness. However, Indian music, unlike the communal music of Africa and Southeast Asia, is individual and often virtuosic and can be both vocal and instrumental. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Free Trade Free trade is a capitalist concept that advocates for a seamless and free flow of goods and services that is virtually unhindered by state imposed restrictions or trade barriers. Over the years, the American government has signed multiple agreements with governments across the world, to encourage trade between the continental United States and other countries around the globe. Indeed, bilateral agreements ranging from AGOA, NAFTA, and TPP have been signed by successive Washington administrations, ostensibly to encourage Americans to reap financial benefits from global trade. The open and free trade idea is anchored on the maxim that no country possesses all the services and products that it needs, at any given time. Countries across the Americas fro instance and by extension globally have seen a proliferation in the number of treaties and preferential trade agreements by economies to boost trade. In this regard, some countries are well endowed with extensive natural resources such as oil, gas, and gold, while others may lack them but still need to use these resources. Nevertheless, the sovereign is permitted under international trade laws to impose certain levels of trade restrictions for valid reasons such as protecting its infant industries and taming dumping of substandard goods. In this regard, the world is moving towards protectionism with scores of countries imposing tariff and non tariff barriers as well as the complete ban of certain class of goods from overseas or ... There are many health improvement strategies in place for obesity which aim to encourage individuals to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I shall be focusing on in particular an app for smartphones called My Diet Coach (Appendix 1). The app allows individuals to document their weight loss goals and allows individuals to see how many calories there are in the meals they are preparing in order for the app to determine how much exercise is needed in proportion to food intake. It also allows them to see how many calories they are allowed to have day to day based on their height and weight. Apps are a great way to implement health improvement strategies for young adults as most will own a smartphone themselves. Obesity is a growing problem not only in adults in the UK but also young adults. Public Health England (2013) states that in 2007 the overall cost of obesity to the UK economy was approximately £15.8 billion per year with £4.2 billion in cost to the NHS. Obesity is a particular problem for young adults as it can cause them to be at an increased risk of developing various serious health problems in later life such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cancer and ... • 27. The Basic Principles Of The Elizabethan Poor Laws Of 1601 The basic principles of the Elizabethan Poor Laws of 1601 were local investigation and administration of relief, work as a component of all assistance, and categorization of the poor into three groups: the able bodied poor, the impotent poor, and dependent children (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 104). Basically, creating a welfare system to help assist the poor, implementing programs to get people working, and categorizing the poor as worthy or unworthy poor. Examples of this in the present social welfare system are TANF, unemployment insurance, Social Security, SSI, and SDI. Within the TANF and unemployment program, there is a job search requirement to encourage people to find work. Also, much like the Elizabethan Poor Laws, people are categorized to receive specific benefits based on whether they can work or not, like SSI, which is for people who are currently unable to work because of old age or disability. Worthy poor are the people who have worked, but no longer can because they are aged or disabled , the people who can work if they want to, or can support their families if they work hard enough (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 10). Unworthy poor is anyone else who has never worked and will not work. It is assumed that these people are poor because of some kind of willfulness, laziness, or refusal to be productive and support themselves (Longmore, 1997). Two prominent ideologies that play a role in the development of social welfare policy and social welfare programs are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Arguments Against Full Inclusion One of the biggest controversies in the United States education system is whether or not full inclusion should be practiced in all schools. There are various reasons why people are for or against full inclusion. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (2012) defines full inclusion as, a popular policy/practice in which all students with disabilities, regardless of the nature or the severity of the disability and need for related services, receive their total education within the regular education classroom in their home school (p. 1). Full inclusion is a policy in which the ultimate goal is to eliminate the need of pull out programs. Students with disabilities are expected to learn and make friends in general education classrooms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When children are separated in schools, they begin to believe that one group is better than the other. More often than not, elementary aged students refer to the special education students as the mental ones. Although children do not intentionally negatively judge their peers, the segregation in school systems makes them believe that is why they are separated. Batchelor and Taylor stated, Social interaction within the peer culture is the basis from which friendships develop (Guralnick, 1981), and is an important medium through which language, cognitive and social learning takes place (Guralnick 1981; McEvoy Odom, 1987) (p. 1). Students need social interaction with their peers in order to make friends and develop social skills. When students with disabilities are all in one room together, they are not being exposed to the people they will talk to in the real world, and therefore will not develop proper social skills. When regular education students are integrated with students with disabilities, they become much more accepting of people with differences. They make new friends and learn how to accommodate for those who need extra help. Keeping children separated plays a role on the reputation and mental health of those with disabilities. Abrams, Hogg, and Marques (2005) stated, Whereas the experience of inclusion is frequently accompanied by positive emotions, the experience of being excluded typically leads to negative emotions, including sadness, loneliness, jealousy, anger, shame, and anxiety (Baumeister Tice, 1990; Leary,1990) (p. 64). Children are not born with hatred in their hearts. They are accepting of everyone until they are taught to hate. Keeping students with disabilities separated from students without them is teaching students that they are different and one group is more capable than the other. Another legacy of the Whitlam Government is found in the support and improvements offered to women. This included the rights and requests for equal pay for equal work, for maternity leave, amendments to the Public Services Act, grants for family planning centres, more affordable availability of the contraceptive pill and a supporting mothers pension for women who were the sole parent (7). The anti racist philosophy forwarded by the Whitlam Government marked a major change in the ALP and the White Australian ideology. Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling are often confused. There is a distinct difference between the two. According to the United States Department of States human smuggling is the facilitation, transportation, attempted transportation or illegal entry of a person(s) across an international border, in violation of one or more countries laws, either clandestinely or through deception, such as the use of fraudulent documents. Human Trafficking is the trafficking of persons for the purpose of committing commercial sex acts, or to subject them to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery. Structure/Level of Analysis/ Theory Although human trafficking is a global issue, the level of analysis I chose was regional. In this paper I am focusing on the Mekong region, where Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand are located. This region has a high amount of women and children that are trafficked into the sex industry. The theory I chose for this topic is Kenneth Waltz. Waltz is a neorealist and examines the international system from a top down view. He also looks at the behavior of states, ... Military Decision Making Process ( Mdmp ) Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) SGT Alexander, Joseph Non commission Officers Academy Senior Leader Course ALC 166 16 Phase 1 dL Abstract The historical process of creating and implementation of the Military Decision Making Process has changed significantly since World War I. The US Army did not have a published staff doctrine or guidance to assist commanders in the decision making process. The Regulations for Field Maneuvers (1910), did not provide staff guidance. In 1914, the field service regulation (FSR) identified the need for decision making processes. The Staff Officer Field Manual (1932), complied principles, data, and information that was intended to guide the operations of staff of all units and territorial commands. The Staff Officer Field Manual (1932), was a detailed manual that explained staff functions and more complete commander estimates of implementation time. Introduction The Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) is a repeating plan of procedures used to understand the situation and mission. The MDMP is used to develop a course of action and produce an operation plan or order. The MDMP integrates the commander, staff, subordinate, headquarters personnel, and other stakeholders involved in the planning process. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys were shot out of an airplane and landed on a strange island, all separated from each other. It is a very interesting novel which includes a series of intense and sad events that all play a part in leading the group of boys to their rescue off of the island. The group of boys has also come across multiple items which represent a larger and influential idea towards the reader. The fire, conch, and the specs which belong to Piggy. To begin, throughout the beginning of Lord of the Flies, the conch shell becomes a symbol of order and unity. After their tragic plane crash, one element that brought the boys together was the conch shell. One of the main characters, Ralph, used the conch shell to call anyone else who is on the island, which resulted in the other boys being found and a tribe being formed. Divergent Competitiveness 1.50 CREATIVITY AND GENERAL MENTAL ABILITY Convergent thinking is defined as the ability to apply conventional and logical search, recognition, and decision making strategies to stored information in order to produce an already known answer (Cropley, 2006). Divergent thinking, by contrast, is defined as the ability to produce new approaches and original ideas by forming unexpected combinations from available information and by applying such abilities as semantic flexibility, and fluency of association, ideation, and transformation (Guilford, 1959, as cited in Cropley, 2006, p. 1). Divergent thinking brings forth answers that may never have existed before and are often novel, unusual, or surprising (Cropley, 2006). Guilford (1967) introduced convergent and divergent thinking as part of a set of five operations that apply in his Structure of Intellect model (SOI model) on six products and four kinds of content, to produce 120 different factors of cognitive abilities.
