Rise of Air Power in World War One Essay
At the 1899 Hague Peace Conference, it was declared that any combat from aircraft would be
considered a war crime. (Eyffinger 227) Merely 20 years later, World War One had seen the
daily use of airplanes and pilots for unyielding combat. While slow at first, the recognition of the
power of aircraft was quick as the Great War started. Out of all countries involved in the war,
Germany had the deepest trust in their aircraft, and this would shortly be to their advantage.
Whereas numerous air forces were by now in working condition, the fighting usage of airplanes
was minimal. The airplanes were used mainly as recon, but the potential for air combat was yet to
be seen. As the number of air force recruits increased, the number of planes... Show more content on

The only problem with machine guns was that any positions besides in front of the propeller
would decrease accuracy. Attaching a gun behind the propellers would hit the blades,
effectively downing the aircraft. There were many positions attempted, such as placing the gun
over the wing. One German inventor, Anthony Fokker, introduced the synchronisation device.
This device controlled the machine gun shots so it would fire only when the propeller blades
were not in the bullet trajectory. Once the Allied adopted this technology, the main role of
airplanes was changed. New war planes, built for the sole purpose of air combat, were being
rapidly manufactured. By 1916 it was a common sight to see airplanes in the air, fighting for
their country. The role of the airplane had changed from a small fragile aircraft to a strong
machine capable of shooting down multiple enemies. As a result, the feeling towards how planes
were being used in the war changed drastically throughout the war. The pilots were treated with
honour and respect due to how easily they could be shot out of the sky. This however, did not
stop recruits for joining the air force. The pilots were called knights in the sky by many citizens.
During the first few years of the war, the citizens and press were in awe of the pilots and the
aircraft. The aircrafts were often seen as a symbol of certain victory when they appeared from

Social Anxiety And Emotional Intelligence Among Adults
Social Anxiety in Relation to Emotional Intelligence among adults
Several decades ago, researchers revealed new academic terms that is useful in studying human
behavior. Emotional intelligence and social anxiety concepts were developed from social contexts
in relation to psychology. The two concepts can be studied consecutively with a correlation created
between them. Emotional intelligence can be defined as the capability to manage and identify
individual emotions and those of other people (Bhochhibhoya Branscum, 2015). On the other hand,
Social anxiety is defined as the fear of interacting with people that creates a feeling of self
consciousness or being negatively judged (Blackhart, Williamson, Nelson, 2015). In other words, it

High social anxiety among adults is linked to poor self control or emotional intelligence especially
during interactions. Although the relationship between social anxiety and emotional intelligence
has been so far tested by few researchers, all of them have agreed on the correlation. Therefore, the
current study seeks clarify the correlation between social anxiety and emotional intelligence among
adults. Self control is very important among adults in the society but not everyone has its
possession. It can be termed as poor or good depending on the degree of self control. Social anxiety
and emotional intelligence can be tested in a conversation where the individuals engage each other
in a natural environment (Blackhart, Williamson, Nelson, 2015). It is important for adults to have
self control while engaging in social interactions.
Emotions are considered one of the most important sources of information as well as facilitate the
processing of information among adults. Many psychologies researchers have agreed on most roles
of emotions in their interpretations guided by intelligence in a social conversation. Furthermore,
they agree that emotions influence the thought system of an individual and that of other people as
well as guide their actions. In addition to that, social anxiety is a basic element of human behavior
since it involves the failures and successes related to emotional intelligence. The use of emotions
cannot be avoided especially in

John Mcwhorter s Is Texting Actually Advancing Language
In today s society, digital technology became an important part of our daily lives. Advanced
technologies such as smart phones, improved the connection and engagement with people around
the world, and easily accessed information throughout the internet. However, many critics argued
that these technology are causing negative influences among teenagers; for instances, many
pointed out that texting affect the way we think and write, in which I strongly disagreed. There
are no connection or comparison among texting and writing. As texting became an important role

Come and See, directed by Elem Klimov
Those that engage in the activity of war can be noted as mad and insane, but some individuals
may also be considered brave souls, and that all depends on the select few that dare to go
through with the entire process of being involved in such a feat. The forces in the war who only
murder to get a rise out of and who continually toy with the on lookers can be portrayed as mad
and insane, while those who decide to join the noble partisans, despite perhaps even being
drafted, to play their part in war were considered to be brave young soldiers. This was exactly the
case in Russian director Elem Klimov s 1985 film Come and See. The main character, Florian, a
boy of fourteen years, is dragged into a war by the force of the Belorussian... Show more content on

The only thing that results from the act of war is endless violence and death, and that in itself
does not seem very kind to the average being, despite having to deal with it, and accepting the fact
that actions such as that would happen in society no matter what is a difficult task that not only the
average being, but also the everyday pacifist and everyone alike, no matter what the circumstance
or situation, all should know of the truth that goes on in the world, no matter how much it hurts,
because it must learn to be accepted by each and every individual sooner or later.
The ironic style of Crane s writing is an element that needs to be given closer and further
inspection and examination until one finally reads between the lines and sees what Crane is trying
to state. His last line of the second stanza of War is Kind , which is refrained a second time at the
end of the fourth stanza,
A field where a thousand corpses lie (Crane 11, 22) can reflect back to Come and See, with both
the bodies in the back of Florian s house and the villagers that were burned to death in the barn.
The way the brave army soldiers and noble partisans are portrayed in Come and See shows them
as serious individuals that would do anything to win what could be considered the most important
war of their entire lives, let alone, just a simple fight. They are portrayed as warriors that will
continue to strike until the bouts

Critique of The Raising of the Cross Essay
The Raising of the Cross is one in a series of paintings based on the crucifixion of Christ by Peter
Paul Rubens. This piece was painted between 1609 and 1610 with oil on canvas in life size with
the centerpiece of the triptych measuring 15 2 by 11 2 . It is now displayed in the Cathedral of
Our Lady in Antwerp, Belgium (Dunton, 164). Peter Paul Rubenswas a Flemish artist that painted
in Baroque style, his paintings were mostly of religious and mythical origin and his skill in such
has been highly regarded in his lifetime and since. (www.peterpaulrubens.com) Born June 28, 1577,
Rubens development as a painter, apparently, started early. After his father s death and his family
moving to Antwerp he decided he wished to be a painter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the center panel of The Raising of the Cross, there are many men struggling to lift Christ on
the cross. I think the implied significance of this is the biblical reference to the weight of the sins
of the world being on Christ and his death being the ultimate sacrifice. Ruben seems to portray
this by showing how heavy a weight that is by the men struggling to lift Christ. The angling of
the cross and the styling of the painting is very similar to Ruben s artistic inspirations, such as
Caravaggio (Getlein 425). Besides the cross, there seems to be a clearly implied line pointing to
the sign above Jesus head where it states that he is Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews in
multiple languages (Bible, Gospel of John 19:19 20). There appears to be, what looks like, a
skull in the wall behind the cross, this would likely be the skull of Goliath, since the hill is
Golgotha (the Place of the Skull) (Bible, Mark 15:22). Jesus is clearly more brightly lit than the
rest of the painting giving him emphasis in the image and the rocks behind the group being
subordinate to them. The man in red that is lifting the cross seems to stand out among the men,
he isn t dressed the same and he s darker skinned than the rest, I suspect this could be Simon of
Cyrene, the man that was ordered to carry Jesus cross after he collapsed (Bible, Luke 23:26)and
Cyrene is in modern day Libya and Simon

High School Student Diagnosed With Type 1 Diabetes
Ashley, a high school student diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age sixteen, experienced a
potentially fatal incident when a substitute teacher denied her request to go to the school nurse.
Ashley s family was aware of how important it was for their daughter s school to be kept
informed about her diabetes. They worked with the school and the nurse to follow all of the
schools procedures and protocols relating to a diagnosis of diabetes. The family worked closely
with the school to provide snacks, glucose tablets, and information about how the school could
help support Ashley s wellbeing. Ashley had a diabetic episode during a class where a substitute
was teaching. She needed her glucose medication and the substitute would not allow Ashley to
get the medication from her bag. The substitute also denied Ashley s request to go to the nurse.
Ashley took it upon herself to go to the nurse anyway. Ashley did not make it to the nurse since
her blood sugar was so low. She was found after the class very ill and disoriented and she had to
be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The family was told by a doctor that this could have
been a potentially fatal situation for Ashley. Ashley s family asked the school to prevent this from
happening again and make all the necessary parties aware of the medical condition. The school did
not feel that they needed to do that and since the school was unwilling the parents hired a lawyer.

Benefits Of Being Young For The Corporate Industry Essay
Introduction Since currently four generations work alongside each other, it is interesting to
study how young professionals find their place in the diverse workforce. It is not always easy
for young adults to find a relevant job because they lack experience and their skills are not as
developed as in their older counterparts. However, young people are in need of careers,
mentoring, and finding their way in life. Therefore, it is important to examine advantages and
disadvantages of being young in the corporate industry. Young adults can occupy good positions
in business and strive for further career development if they exert reasonable efforts in enhancing
their strengths and seeking valuable corporate experience. Definitions and Statistics According to
the Fact Sheet 2014: The Young Professional Workforce (2014) of the Department for
Professional Employment, young professionals are defined as people between ages of 20 and
34. Their inclusion into the diverse and evolving workforce is critical, because this generation is
diverse and technologically adept serving as a lever to affect the overall corporate performance. In
2013, 15.7 million workers who can be considered young adults were employed in professional and
technical occupations ( Fact Sheet 2014: The Young Professional Workforce, 2014). Besides, young
professionals constituted 27 percent of the professional workforce. The occupation group that

The Makeover, it is understood both Eliza Doolittle and Elliot Doolittle are in need of a
transformation. Throughout both the book and film, both characters were going through drastic
changes in life. In the play, Pygmalion, Eliza Doolittle, living in London England, was considered
an illiterate, poor girl. Eliza is a girl that stands at a flower shop and sells flowers. Heavy summer

Hannah is competing against a local weather man for a Congress position. As the film continues,
Hannah s outcome is not so great; she loses to the local weather man. Hannah Higgins is
compared to Henry Higgins, in Pygmalion, because she is grumpy most of the time. After her
recent loss, Hannah and Colleen Pickering were back at the office reviewing. Elliot Doolittle, the
local beer distributor, walked by. He was speaking in a language nobody could understand. Hannah
walked up to him telling him his speaking was not correct. He was extremely offended by her
comment and walked away.
The local weather man, competing for the role, never got the weather right, so the day he made
his speech was not any different. He did not know of any thunderstorms in the area, so he died
from a lightning strike. Hannah Higgins was, then, eligible to be in the race again. People would
not vote for her, though, so she had to find some way to win the race. Her perfect solution was to
get Elliot Doolittle in the race. The only problem with him was he was not well dressed and could
not speak fluently. Hannah had also offended him earlier, so the chances of him doing this favor

The Guilt Of Premeditated Murder In Edgar Allan Poe s...
True! nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am
mad? (Poe). In Tell Tale Heart, Edgar Allan Poe illustrates that the narrator has an acute need of the
old man s vulture eye and eventually murders the man on the eighth night. The author highlights the
events of the murder and soon, the narrator confesses to the police of his guilt. As Edgar Allan Poe
fabricates this short story, he enthralls the readers by giving the events specific detail. If Edgar
Allan Poe were to ever continue the story where the narrator would be put on trial, he would be
guilty of premeditated murder. The reason for this is because the narrator cunningly planned the
murder, had a motive of killing the old man, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the narrator was criminally insane, he wouldn t be deceptively kind to the man everyday
before the night of the murder. Also, some characteristics of criminally insane is that you would
lack the mental capacity, would not know the difference between right and wrong, and finally
you wouldn t be able to control your actions. If the narrator ever lacked the mental capacity, he
wouldn t be able to plan out what he was going to do. From the perspective of the premeditated
murder side, he planned out what he was going to do. For example, if he was criminally insane, he
would not be deceptively kind to the old man, he would just not talk to him for the rest of the week
and eventually the old man would suspect something.
The second reason why he is guilty of premeditated murder is that he had a motive. A motive to
assassinate the old man. In the short story, the author clearly states that he had a motive to kill
the old man. Such as, It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but, once
conceived, it haunted me day and night. The narrator clearly said that at first, he had the idea to
do the deed. When the narrator had a motive, he decided to make a plan that lasted for about a
week. If this was a premeditated murder, an insane man would not have a motive to kill the man or
even thought about it. The insane man would go and kill the man right

William Shakespeare s King Lear Essay
Shakespeare s King Lear is regarded to be one of his most successful piece of literature,
published in the 17th century, in which he depicts a dramatic adaptation of relationships
between parents and their children. Preceding the twentieth century, several critics have deemed
King Lear as a classic tragedy and therefore labelling the character of Lear as a tragic hero . This
is because much like the ancient Greek legend of Oedipus, Lear s sense of pride is what
consequently leads to his demise from the very beginning, where Lear is arguably at the
pinnacle of his power. Therefore, upon the traditional reading of King Lear, Lear s human
qualities shown following his downfall as king would prove this character suitable for the title
as a tragic hero; where a lesson can be learned, thus allowing an Elizabethan audience to feel a
sense of moral justice at the end of the play (however, the existence of the sub plot involving
Edmund and Gloucester alongside that of Lear s tragedy and his daughters implies a lack of
distinction from Lear s character to other true tragic heroes). In light of this, it could change our
overall interpretation of the play itself to be Shakespeare s personal comments on the Human
Condition to his advantage, removes any suspicion that he may be making a direct comment on the
death of an ageing monarchy and rise of a usurper towards the Catholic James 6th of Scotland by
intentionally setting the play in a pre Christian Albion world. Alternatively,

The Flaws Of State Led Humanitarianism
Since the turn of the century, the world has experienced various events that have rendered millions
homeless, starving or even without a country. Such events may range from merciless persecution by
a ruthless dictator to a furious tsunami that leaves destruction in its wake. In such incidents, it is
human nature to help those affected rebuild their lives and find comfort again. As a result,
governments spend billions on foreign aid projects aimed at helping populations rebuild
themselves after a tragic event. Despite the funding and resources spent on these projects, their
success rate is dismal. Coyne s book explains the flaws of state led humanitarianism. Using case
studies that range from Afghanistan to Haiti, Coyne successfully argues against state aid proving
that continuing with that approach is likely to remain unsuccessful. He further demonstrates that
state aid fails to fulfill its mandate because the parties involved are either too arrogant or ignorant
to acknowledge fundamental flaws of state led aid. He says that the influence of agenda driven
opinions of blurs the objectives of financial assistance from the beginning. Since governments
focus on what they should, rather than what they can do, the goals of the most aid funded projects
in affected nations remain unrealized. In my opinion, Coyne s work is very convincing because it
methodically shows how aid moves from a state agency to the project in question and the various
parties in the middle that take away

Nationalism In America
Hello, I am Susana Stripling and I am talking about the issues associated with rising neo
nationalistic policies. Some background on the issue, nationalism is the strong belief in the
interests of a particular nation state being of a higher importance than other nation states.
Nationalism is associated with strong patriotic feelings, increases in armaments, a feeling of
superiority over other nations, political independence, as well as the severing of ties and
communications with other nations. Neo nationalism is the re emergence of nationalism except
under different global and transnational conditions. Globalism is the complete opposite of
nationalism. Globalism is when you put the entire world s policies and attitudes and values above
that of your own particular nation. It s working together as a group. Transnational organizations are

The Importance Of Controling The Gun And Gun Control
Gun safety is a huge factor in having and using a gun. Almost every shooter is taught the 12
Golden Rules. Many of those who are not, are the ones who illegally get their weapon or intend
to use the weapon in a harmful way. The 12 Golden Rules are: one, always treat the gun as if it is
loaded. Two, always keep the muzzle point in a safe direction. Three, always keep one s finger
off the trigger until one is ready to shoot. Four, always keep the gun unloaded until one is ready
to use it. Five, never point the gun the gun at anything one does not tend to destroy. Six, be sure
of what one s target is and what is beyond it. Seven, learn the mechanical and characteristics of
the gun one is using. Eight, always use the proper ammunition. Nine, be sure the barrel of the
gun is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting the gun. Ten, if the gun fails to fire hold
one s position for a few seconds then carefully unload the gun with the muzzle pointed in a safe

Examples Of Hiroshima Quotes For Shirley s
Hiroshima Quotes
1) He was the only person making his way into the city; he met hundreds and hundreds who were
fleeing, and every one of them seemed to be hurt in some way. The eyebrows of some were
burned off and skin hung from their faces and hands. Others, because of pain, held their arms up as
if carrying something in both hands. Some were vomiting as they walked. Many were naked or in
shreds of clothing. (Chapter 2)
1a) This quote serves to shows the consequences of such a horrible act committed against others.
Hersey portrays the people of Hiroshima as human beings not just as enemies of war.
1b) The author doesn t include himself in the quote nor is his presence felt. This quote is in third
person; Mr. Tanimoto s point of view. Hersey merely writes about the facts making sure he doesn t
include more than enough of what is needed.

What Was The Role Of The Federal Government In The 1960 s
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the U.S. federal government took several actions both at home
and abroad that many Americans didn t always feel were justified, and didn t agree with. One of
these changes made in the U.S. dealt with the legal system, and the rights given to those charged
with serious crimes. Chief Justice Earl Warren, whose goal was to extend individual rights, led
this movement. Through a series of court cases Gideon v. Wainwright, Escobedo v. Illinois,
Miranda v. Arizona new rights of people accused of crimes were established. These included the
right for the accused to have a lawyer to be present during a policeinvestigation, a lawyer to be
provided to those who couldn t afford one, and those accused had to be informed

Roswell Incident Research Paper
The Roswell Incident This world we live in can be a mystery, and because of that there are
people out their dedicating their lives to solving the unknown. So when the Roswell incident
accured there was a massive rush down south to figure out exactly what happened and where
this Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) came from. When this event got public the local
townspeople got out that the entire thing was from another planet entirely. After the government
stated that the material was from a weather balloon, some people thought it was a cover up for
what it actually was. I d like to make three brief points on why I think the Roswell incident and
this discovery of UFOs is fake. First off, I d like to say how people originally thought of the
UFOs as Extra Terrestrial beings. Although I guess people looked over the fact that the material
that the UFO contained a human made material. The people of Roswell turned this into a big story
with a major assumption that the material came from space, but I don t think they have much
evidence for that. With all these people coming up with random ideas as to what may have landed
in that farmers field in 1947,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My three topics ran through my ideas that I came up with such as how the Weather Balloon
could ve been a hoax but how it also wasn t. How the material the Object was made of was
human made and not something the government couldn t identify, and how the current time
period was during an active war where anything could ve happened. With this I d like to say that
I believe that the Roswell incident was fake and completely over exaggerated and how people
thought it was cool to go out and pretend to see UFOs was kind of dumb. I know for sure that they
were either planes or other man made machines that people like to make things out of. I learned

How The Show Dancing With The Stars ( New Zealand ) Essay
According to Lealand and Martin (2001), despite outer differences, each element of television is
connected in a way. For example, the schedule provides a controlled grid to organise strands
genres, genre groupings connect across programmes and programmes connect to nearby
programmes (Lealand Martin, 2001). Moreover, every individual element of a television
programme connects, in some way, to the producers purpose of the show (Lealand Martin, 2001;
Horrocks, 2004). Thus, each feature of a programme is considered in terms of the appeal to its
target audienceand genre. This essay will analyse how the TV3 show Dancing with the Stars (New
Zealand) is structured and produced to suit the purpose of the show and appeal to the target
audience. Furthermore, reinforcing the idea that programmes have a motive for every individual
element in their structure. Firstly, the genre of Dancing with the Stars, time slot in schedule, and
the aspects of its television station have influence in the show s target audience and purpose
(Creeber, 2008). This influence of target audience can also be seen when analysing the structure of
the show. Furthermore, the producer uses various production techniques to appeal to the audience.
Thus, by looking at the different aspects of Dancing with the Stars it s clear to see the relationship
between the production and structure of the show, with the intended audience. Moreover, the show
effectively validates the sense that every aspect of television

The Case Of Fisher V. University Of Texas At Austin Essay
Writing in opinion of the court in the case of Fisher V. University of Texas at Austin (II). This
case had been previously heard by the Supreme Court resulting in a 7 1 decision that explained
the University had no grounds to apply any preference to racial minorities in the application or
the acceptance process. The case was reopened at both the fifth circuit court and the Supreme
Court. There will be seven justices presiding over this case, with the death of Justice Antonin
Scalia and Justice Elena Kagan recusing herself. The question of making admission decisions
on the basis of race had been debated before in the Supreme Court, in the case of Grutter v.
Bollinger. The University of Michigan Law School had denied the admission of Barbara
Grutter, a white female. The Law School admits that it uses race as a factor in making
admissions decisions because it serves a compelling interest in achieving diversity among its
student body. The court ruled in favor of the University of Michigan, because no single factor
eliminated a certain applicant from being denied admission and race was seen as a factor that
would help diversity in the law school. This case was referred to in the discussion phase of this
hearing. In the case, the plaintiff accused UT at Austin of racially discriminating against her in the
application and acceptance process. Under the first application procedure that lasted up until 1997,
two factors were taken into consideration, the applicant s performance in

Milton Friedman And Milton Keynes
There have been different views from John Maynard Keynes, Milton Friedman and central banks
when it comes to inflation. However, what both John Maynard Keynes and Milton Friedman can
agree on is the fact that inflation is seen to be a great evil. Moreover, the central banks interpret
inflation as moderate being the fact that some inflationis seen to them as tolerable. Historically,
Friedman and Keynes have had disputes on a better system for the control of inflation. For
instance, Friedman put forward the monetary policy for the government to use in order to keep
interest rates to stabilize an economy, whereas Keynes believed the government should be in
control of inflation by the amount of spending produced between goods and services. Central
banks have viewed both reasoning s to Keynes and Friedman s theories and decided the monetary
policy is the best route for an economy to take. A great example of this can be illustrated in Canada
with inflation rates only being kept between 1 and 3 percent. The other factors that central banks
might have to deal with in other countries would be the change in political views and how much
power the government has over central banks to control cash flow throughout their respective
countries. The central banks must also avoid dealing with poor decisions made by government
leaders which could affect the economy tremendously. In many underdeveloped countries, there
have been a lot struggles even until present day where government leaders

The Struggle For Mozambique By Nidoo Mondlane
Eduardo Mondlane, a nationalist leader and the founding president of the Mozambican Liberation
Front, wrote a text called The struggle for Mozambique . He explains what the situation in colonial
Mozambique was at the time and the tribulations that the country faced under Portugal s rule. He
brings to light certain cases, the episodes of the nationalist struggle in Mozambique and its
aftermath. This essay will analyse the text of Mondlane and give an account of his reasoning s.
According to Mondlane relations between Portugal and Mozambique began in the late 1400 s with
the main interest of opening a safer route to India for means of trade. This was not the case for

Mondlane states that the main beneficiary of the plan of the dam did not benefit Mozambique but
South Africa and Portugal s cut from the project was clearly political rather than economic. This
topic relatively goes together with the exploitation of labour through the Portuguese. Huffman
states that the forced labour on private farms and government works, a vast amount of
Mozambicans were sent to Rhodesia and South Africa to work in the mines and in conclusion it
lead to the deaths of 43000 Mozambicans between 1902 and 1914, but the colonial authorities were
concerned only with the wages being remitted to Mozambique since they were the primary source
of the colony s foreign earnings. The metropole took everything and left nothing , Huffman states. A
racial notion can also be seen through the implementation of forced labour and there are differences
in figures regarding race and the Europeans were paid more even though both did the same work
and had the same level of skill. Penvenne states that [e]conomic crises tended to hasten the pace of
racist employment categorization , which supports the above mentioned statement. Another
statement by Penvenne supports above mentioned: Power, privilege and pay were closely linked to

Essay on Eugenics
The roots of eugenics can be traced back to Britain in the early 1880 s when Sir Francis Galton
generated the term from the Greek word for well born . He defined eugenics as the science of
improving stock, whether human or animal. According to the American Eugenics Movement, today
s study of eugenics has many similarities to studies done in the early 20th century. Back then,
Eugenics was, quite literally, an effort to breedbetter human beings by encouraging the reproduction
of people with quot;good quot; genes and discouraging those with quot;bad quot; genes.

definition of eugenics

At the same time, cloning could operate as a form of positive eugenics, increasing the number of
births of babies with excellent health and high intelligence.
One thing that many people disagree upon is whether or not eugenics and genetic cloning is
ethically right or wrong. On one hand, it could eliminate children being born with life threatening
diseases by forewarning parents of potential medical problems. It is known that hemophilia,
albinism, and certain structural abnormalities are inheritable. Family gene maps, called pedigrees,
can help families with serious diseases avoid having children with the same diseases through
genetic counseling, and, increasingly, prospective parents can be tested directly for the presence of
undesired genes. (Prothero)
Another possible use of genetics could be the production of healthy organs. For example, heart
disease is one of the top causes of death in the United States. Scientists predict that they will
someday be able to clone healthy heart cells and inject them into damaged areas of the heart to
cure defects. There is also a possibility that doctors will be able to take healthy cells and tissue
from a patient s body and use them to create organs. This would eliminate the need for organ donor
waiting lists. People would no longer be facing early death because there is not a healthy heart or
other organ available to them.
At the same time, some people question if it is morally right to, in terms, play god . Some go

Mrs. Lawrence had her students desks arranged in three rows of grouped tables. The first row is

clarifying my role in tasks by making sure I understand my boss s expectations of me and my

Nature Is A Product Of The Earth
Coastlines have always been something of interest throughout human history. We have built homes,
parks and even cities along them, but at what cost? Coastlines are not found in nature; they are
products of human initiative... (Gillis 99). This quote said by John R. Gillis brings up a very
important discussion. Are coastlines found in nature or have they been built into something we as
humans wanted them to be? When the quote is first read, it may be easy to say of course coastlines
exist in nature because they are nature. Although, when looking at it deeper one must ask what is
the definition of nature. Nature is defined as the physical world collectively, including plants,
animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the... Show more content on

Without those piles and bulkheads those houses would not be able to be there. Which is an
example of changing nature to support the want we have to live on the coast. This was seen also in
San Francisco in the mid 1800 s.
The gold rush hit San Francisco in 1849 and in two years the town of 1,000 people turned into a
large coastal city of 25,000 people. The land behind the bay was mountains and was not a good fit
for expanding the city so they built near the shore. As the city grew throughout the years a need for
more land increased. They began to build into the bay and actual changed the outline of the
coast entirely. They used the steam paddy to fill in large areas of the San Francisco s coast. As
they began to make land and build on it numerous problems began to be discovered. Besides
physically changing the entire shoreline of San Francisco, it created man traps that were
uneven fillings of land that would sink when people stepped on them, it also created seismic
hazards, which was seen by the 1906 Earthquake, and fire hazards, which was also seen by the
Great Fire of 1851 (Dyl Lecture). This is a perfect example of a coast being a product of human
initiative. As the need for land increased along the coast we as people had no problem changing the
coast. J.D. Stillman was quoted in the Overland Monthly in 1868 saying Men, in their

Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska Research Paper
Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska was born Helena Kowalska on August 25, 1905 in GЕ‚ogowiec,
Poland. Helena s family was very religious, so she and her nine siblings grew up with an
understanding of the Catholic faith, despite their immense poverty. It was apparent that she was
deeply interested in Catholicism from a very young age. She first attended Exposition of the
Blessed Sacrament at the impressionable age of seven. From there, her love of prayer and
devotion to the Lord only increased. She celebrated her first Holy Communion at age nine.
Helena only had a three year education. Right when she got out of school, she wanted to enter a
convent. However, her parents refused to give her permission. Once she became old enough,
Helena got a job as a housekeeper to support herself and her family. She never could have
expected the coming wonders the Lord had in store for her. Around 1924, Helena had the
privilege of experiencing her first vision of Christ. She was at a dance with her sister when she
saw an image of Jesus covered in wounds from his suffering on the cross. Helena rushed to a
cathedral and began to pray. There, she heard a voice tell her to leave immediately and set off for a

with citizens calling for action against a system widely believed to have failed them.

In Parks and Recreation, they have a comical way on how the government deals with problems
and uses real life scenarios that have occurred in the government. An example of a real life event
is when in the show they had the government shutdown in Pawnee which was inspired by the real

local California politics and attended Los Angeles City Council meetings to have a better

Throughout the novel, he repeatedly refuses to conform to the ways of the wemistikoshiw.
While Xavier and Elijah both face prejudice due to their Native ethnicities, the two respond to it
in completely contrasting ways. Whereas Elijah conforms and abandons his Native customs in
order to fit in and gain a place amongst the other soldiers, Xavier firmly sticks to his Indian
religion and remains unaffected by the pressures put on him by his wemistikoshiw comrades.
He refuses to speak English, noting how their tongue is better for lies (Boyden, 51), wears his
moccasins more than his army boots, remains loyal to his religious/spiritual beliefs, and
expresses general disinterest and criticism in regards to their ways. He notes how he finds their
medicine odd and refuses to try morphine until it is forced upon him, how he thinks their gods
are entities of violence, etc... The divide between the wemistikoshiw and Natives is further
emphasized during the scene in which Elijah knocks over a swallow s nest and kills the three
chicks. The Cree have a great respect for nature and animals, so when Xavier is ordered by
Breech to sweep out the nest, he predictably refuses. Elijah, on the other hand, grows frustrated by
Xavier s refusal, telling him to do it and that it s just a bird (Boyden, 258). By knocking down the
nest himself, Elijah reveals that he identifies more with the wemistikoshiw than Cree. In his refusal

the product of Vladek and Art s relationship with the Holocaust as a whole. In Maus II, the
relationship between the past and the present is relatively important. In the very beginning of

The Black People Of America
Dear black people of America since a young age I ve learned that I had to assimilate to two

second being black in America has an whole other culture and traditions the come along with it.
Both cultures I have grown up with but I can never be fully belong to just one so in a way I have

modernization of religion. T.K Oommen (1994) defines fundamentalism as text without context ;
meaning the scriptures written back in history where relevant to that history and culture at that time
and place (Christiano et al., 2016). Such texts without context then simply disregard current
settings. Fundamentalists believe their religion is the objective truth, which as a result, defines
other religions as myths (Christiano et al., 2016). Globalization has shifted religious views in our
society, from predominately Fundamentalist based to more modern. This shift in religious views
has resulted in religions catered to anyone and everyone. Faith is what allows us to accept a truth, a
truth believed by many, resulting in religion.
The Truth The three greatest Western religions are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam (Christiano et
al., 2016). Different societies interpret the Word of God differently. As stated in the text, the Word
of God can be magnified or reduced. As a result, this is considered one of the major downfalls of
globalization. Further in the text, it is stated that though religions, like Islam,

Lego Girl Research Paper
Oftentimes, it takes something more powerful than us, something that floats on a higher cloud to
humble our senses and show us just how small and insignificant we really are to the vast realm
beyond what is Earth. In this rare case, all the authority begins within a single compact toy brick.
Legos: ancient little colorful pieces of plastic that have been around for over eight decades. Even
though they have been present, unchanged, and accessible for so long, below the surface of simple
construction, they hold the ability to prepare one for the real world.
Unlike the idealistic Barbie and her party going, way too perfectly fitted image of what all little
girls hope life turns out to be, legos are genuinely realistic. In the mindset of a lego builder, there
are several different phases. There is hopefulness, anticipation, excitement, frustration, and just
like in life, there are only two possible outcomes: failure or success. Oh, and then there s Barbie,
who always seems to have a smile on her face, with no actual sign of weakness or sensibility behind
her glossy eyes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some may say that legos are only for kids. I on the other hand, would have to respectfully
disagree. The fact that each separately sold set is made for ages three and up, with no expiration
date, further validates the timelessness of the toy. Lego blocks help with mobility and the
development of gross motor skills from early on, and journey with us into a lifetime of inspiration
that stretches our brains over the limit. With hundreds of different colors and themes, we can
recreate or fabricate whatever we put our minds to, and it all begins with a brick shaped piece of

Target Market Strategy
Based on the research of Coffeeberry and situation analysis, the core customers are nearby
residents and students from University of La Verne. Therefore, the volume of customers is
roughly around 5000. Coffeeberry is located in old town La Verne, and right next to University
of La Verne. The very basic reason why Coffeeberry pick up this location is because it is a
downtown area and a lot of businesses are centered here, where people living nearby and students
from the university hang out. The competitors, who also offer coffee products, including Circle K,
Starbucks, McDonald s and Miss Donut Bagel, etc.
According to the researched the demographics of City of La Verne. According to the 2012
statistical summary of City of La Verne (ci.la verne.ca.us), population was 31,461, which means it
is a very small and private town with a very small population. The median age was 43.1, which
indicates the population consists of senior people. Besides, there were 11,366 households and

Analysis Of Samuel Taylor Coleridge s Kubla Khan
Experts widely regard Samuel Taylor Coleridge as one of the few major leaders of British
Romanticism. His poems, both individual works and collaborations with another Romantic leader,
William Wordsworth, are proof of this. His works incorporated ideas that are often found in
Romantic poetry, such as a reverence for nature, emphasis on emotion and imagination over reason
and logic, and other themes that contradicted thinkers of the Age of Reason. Coleridge assisted in
the change from Enlightenment ideals favoring rationality and deduction to a thinking with your
heart style. Coleridge had a strange childhood as the last of ten children and largely isolated from
the world, and therefore had few companions other than the books he so loved to read. This
exposed him to the ideas that eventually made him into the renowned Romantic poet readers view
him as today. Coleridge s upbringing in 18th century England and close association with other
poets, including the co authoring of Lyrical Ballads with William Wordsworth, helped form his
worldview and poetic style, evidenced in his poem Kubla Khan, which in turn shaped English
Romanticismand the way readers would look at poetry forever.
One of the largest influences on Coleridge was his unusual adolescence and the people he met, as
a child and later on. It is said best as, For Coleridge, childhood is the shaper of adult destiny
(Gradesaver). The youngest child of ten, he had his father die when he was not even nine years

The Sociological Imagination And Common Sense
The Sociological Imagination was a term that was first coined by sociologist C. Wright Mills. It
could be said that definition of The Sociological Imagination is having the ability to look beyond
personal experience and realise that society is shaped by the cross over between biography and
history. Mills thought that everyone in society had the capability to think sociologically and that
this was essential to gain a deeper understanding of both their society, and their current
circumstance. This approach contradicts a more readily adopted approach by the public that
sociologists call The common sense approach . The common sense approach is a collection of
knowledge that has been acquired through little scientific merit, such as: personal experience,
gossip or anecdotal evidence. This essay will discuss and explain the difference between the
Sociological Imagination and Common Sense explanations through the use of examples to explain
the topic of sexuality. Sexuality is an issue that has been widely discussed and has often been
misunderstood by society. It has often been a misconception by members of the heterosexual
community that all lesbians want to be men. Through applying common sense, it can be understood
why people may think gay women want to be men when looking in on the lesbian community, some
lesbians prefer to express themselves and their sexuality through the way they dress and act; their
short hair, masculine clothing, wearing no make up and their macho

Field Hockey Practice At Phillips Exeter Academy
As we are lining up for drills in field hockey practice, one of my coaches, Marissa, looks over at
me and asks, Who is that all the way across the field in those red tights? (B+) I respond, Of
course it is Casey, who else has as much team spirit that they would wear those tights to
practice?. Casey is dressed in red, metallic tights underneath a white skirt with a vibrant, blue
long sleeve t shirt; our spirit dress at practice is America in order to get excited for our game
tomorrow at Phillips Exeter Academy. Since Casey is about 100 yards away from me, on the other
side of the field, I can only manage to make out her tights. I cannot help but smile when I look this

Sarah Plumb and Marissa Gedman come over to tell us to go sit in a circle in the middle of the
field, giving Casey and Maura space. Not wanting to leave Casey s side, I reluctantly walk over
to the middle of the field. As I am walking away, my legs feel heavy and unreliable while they
wobble beneath me. Some of my teammates begin yelling to the trainers at the soccer field
above to come quickly and that it is an emergency. Almost instantaneously, I hear the zooming of
the trainer s golf cart come rushing over. My legs keep walking away from Casey, even though it
is not what I want them to do. I reach the circle of my teammates, and I slowly lower myself to
the ground. I sit cross legged with a glare fixed on the ground in front of me; the forest green,
artificial grass pokes through the densely packed, black, rubber pellets. I pull at pieces of this
grass and fiddle with the rubber pellets, pushing them into my sweaty palm and seeing if they
will leave indentations. I continue to do this as I see the coaches come over to update us, Girls,
we want to warn you that we will have to call an ambulance, but we are hoping it is just an
allergic reaction that Casey is having. My eyes start to well with tears of confusion and anger. I
begin to fiercely pull the artificial grass apart to relieve my frustrations. My vision remains fixated
on the turf, and I am lost in my own thoughts as I question the situation around me for some

Optical Properties Of Thick Metal Nanohole Arrays
2. Optical properties of thick
metal nanohole arrays fabricated
by electron beam and
nanosphere lithography.
INTRODUCTION
Extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) through nanohole arrays has been concentrated broadly
in several aspects, including the hypothesis and confirmation of its origin parameters influencing its
intensity, the optical properties, for example like its transmission spectra and divergence. Several
parameters including the refractive index of the medium on the metal film surface, the wavelength
and condition of polarization of the incident light, the holes shape and periodicity of the structures
change the spectral behavior in term of intensity and position of the transmitted peaks. The
structures that support EOT have discovered their applications in numerous fields including visible
spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, sub wavelength optics, nonlinear optics, and photolithography.
As the EOT is influenced by parameters like the shape and periodicity of the holes, devices
made in light of this marvel will be more sensitive and supports larger selectivity. Regardless of
these advantages a large portion of existing use of EOT has been acknowledged on the structures
with limited region of coverage. Because of the constrained techniques and choices for fabrication
of such structures, the EOT based devices were fabricated with finite array sizes. This paper deals
with two methods that deals with two methods to produce arrays of nanoholes with sizes of

Rules And Order In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Rules and order support a society by preventing it from becoming corrupted. Having organization
and structure is very important in order to maintain a successful and civilized community. During
the Cold War, a school for boys are sent out on a plane to avoid the atomic bombs. While being
transported to safety, the plane crashes and the boys become trapped on a mysterious island. After
the crash, the boys gather everyone together and elect a chief to lead the group. The two candidates
running for chief are Ralph, a rational and kind hearted boy, and Jack, a determined, arrogant,
and aggressive figure. One of the other boys known as Piggy helps Ralph to give him logical
advice to help the group of boys get rescued. It is their job to form a society... Show more content

After the plane crashes, Ralph and Piggy stumble upon a conch shell and use it to call an
assembly to gather all the boys up. When blown through, the conch creates a roaring blare that
allows everyone to hear it. This conch becomes the most important motif since it keeps the boys
organized. This conch is also used to create order among the boys to signify who has the right to
talk, that way everyone has a chance to be heard without being interrupted. This is apparent
when Ralph says, And another thing. We can t have everybody talking at once. We ll have to
have Hands up like at school ... And he won t be interrupted. Except by me. Jack was on his feet.
We ll have rules! he cried excitedly. Lots of rules! (Golding 33). This rule associated with the
conch helps the boys to maintain a civilized structure by demanding the boys to give respect.
Every time the conch is blown, the boys gather and anytime anyone wants to speak during these
assemblies, they hold the shell. By instilling these 2 guidelines, all the boys have the
opportunity to accept power and respect. To keep control in the group, the boys decide to run
their society similar to an autocracy. All the boys agree electing a chief to lead the group will
be the most effective way to stay organized and civilized until they are rescued. This is evident
when Jack says, We ve got to decide about being rescued ... seems we ought to have a chief to
decide things (22). By appointing a leader to guide the boys it will keep the chaos contained and
encourage the boys to remain cordial towards each other and avoid barbaric behavior. Ralph and
Jack both want the title of chief, however, when all the boys vote, Ralph is the clear cut winner.
Electing a leader and using the conch to summon the group together are very important if the boys
want to protect their civilized life

The Fama-French Three Factor Model Case Study
¬¬Introduction
Eugene Fama from the University of Chicago and Kenneth R. French from the Yale School of
Management s were done a research on examining the validity of capital asset pricing model
(CAPM). It was published in 1992; and well known as The Fama French three factors model (TFM).
Fama and French TFM is used to explain the risk and return on equity portfolios. It compares the
portfolio to three distinct risks found in equity market. Those three distinct risks are sensitivity to
market, or we call it beta; size risks or SMB factor, small minus big; and market risk or HML
factor, high minus low.
Value Stocks versus Growth Stocks
In the Rethinking Stock Returns article, it defines value stocks as stocks with low ratio of book to
market value. Its price is low relative to their book value and thus considered as undervalued by a
value investor. Usually this stock has high dividend yield.
On the other hand, growth stocks usually doesn t pay dividend at all, as the company would most
likely to reinvest the earning it gets to the capital project. Growth stocks has low ratio of book to
market value, its earnings are expected to grow at an above average rate relative to the market. Not

The Reality Of Television Shows
This Is What The Reality Of TV Is. The popularity of reality TV shows lately do not amaze me,
in the society today, people admire excessive pride than high moral standards. A lot of shows
which need to be cancelled portray and teach a lot of bad behaviors. Although these reality TV
shows may make us laugh or even amaze us with its characters, who are bad influences to the
society especially children. These shows gives us a picture of how people are drastically driven
by the love of money, fame and riches instead of the power of love of people for each other. The
indecent and improper behavior being displayed by these characters are not to be emulated
because it has a negative effect on the society, especially on children because the promote the use
of drugs, alcohol and foul languages. Reality shows such as Jersey Shore and Real World on MTV
promote nothing but alcoholism. People get hired just to have fun, involving alcohol. People get
the wrong impression of how to act and behave, making them think that the only way to have fun
is by drinking alcohol and getting drunk. Most people in the society today believe that alcohols
consumed on shows make it seem cool or fun to drink and get drunk. A reality show producer, Kurt
Reams, once said that the rate and amount at which Tv stars consume alcohol is ridiculous that
most viewers could get influenced which is a wrong idea.

Essay about Vincent Van Gogh
Vincent Willem van Gogh Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30th 1853, in Zundert,
The Netherlands. Van Gogh spent his teenage year s working for a firm of art dealers; however,
he did not embark upon his art career until 1880. Originally, he worked only with dark and
gloomy colors, until he came across the art movements developed in Paris known as,
Impressionism and Neo Impressionism (Meier Graefe 4). Van Gogh than included their brighter
colors and unique style of painting into his very own creations. He produced more than 2,000
works, including around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches, during the last ten years
of his life (Meier Graefe 10). However, most of his best known works were produced in his last...

High doses of thujone will also cause a person to see objects in yellow, which may also be the
reason why he loved the color yellow. Yet, due to Van Gogh s extreme commitment to religion,
and enthusiastic speed in this art pieces, many doctors also assumed Van Gogh could have been
bipolar. Van Gogh s episodes were always followed by exhaustion, and depression, and
eventually suicide (Meier Graefe 46). Therefore, bipolar may be a logical reason of Van Gogh s
mental condition. Though, there may have been many arguments of Gogh s mental condition,
there is still a final agreement that throughout his Van Gogh still created intriguing art for the
world to see. One of Van Gogh s most famous paintings is The Starry Night. Although, Van Gogh
sold only one painting in his life, the aftermath of his work is enormous (Schapiro 31). Widely
known as his greatest piece of work, the painting has been reproduced several times and is one of
his most famous paintings. Van Gogh however, was not satisfied with this painting, in a letter to
his brother Theo from Saint Remy he states, In all this batch I think nothing at all good save the
field of wheat, the mountain, the orchard, the olives with the blue hills and the portrait and the
entrance to the Quarry, and the rest says nothing to me, because it lacks individual intention and

  • 3. Rise of Air Power in World War One Essay At the 1899 Hague Peace Conference, it was declared that any combat from aircraft would be considered a war crime. (Eyffinger 227) Merely 20 years later, World War One had seen the daily use of airplanes and pilots for unyielding combat. While slow at first, the recognition of the power of aircraft was quick as the Great War started. Out of all countries involved in the war, Germany had the deepest trust in their aircraft, and this would shortly be to their advantage. Whereas numerous air forces were by now in working condition, the fighting usage of airplanes was minimal. The airplanes were used mainly as recon, but the potential for air combat was yet to be seen. As the number of air force recruits increased, the number of planes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only problem with machine guns was that any positions besides in front of the propeller would decrease accuracy. Attaching a gun behind the propellers would hit the blades, effectively downing the aircraft. There were many positions attempted, such as placing the gun over the wing. One German inventor, Anthony Fokker, introduced the synchronisation device. This device controlled the machine gun shots so it would fire only when the propeller blades were not in the bullet trajectory. Once the Allied adopted this technology, the main role of airplanes was changed. New war planes, built for the sole purpose of air combat, were being rapidly manufactured. By 1916 it was a common sight to see airplanes in the air, fighting for their country. The role of the airplane had changed from a small fragile aircraft to a strong machine capable of shooting down multiple enemies. As a result, the feeling towards how planes were being used in the war changed drastically throughout the war. The pilots were treated with honour and respect due to how easily they could be shot out of the sky. This however, did not stop recruits for joining the air force. The pilots were called knights in the sky by many citizens. During the first few years of the war, the citizens and press were in awe of the pilots and the aircraft. The aircrafts were often seen as a symbol of certain victory when they appeared from under the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Anxiety And Emotional Intelligence Among Adults Social Anxiety in Relation to Emotional Intelligence among adults Several decades ago, researchers revealed new academic terms that is useful in studying human behavior. Emotional intelligence and social anxiety concepts were developed from social contexts in relation to psychology. The two concepts can be studied consecutively with a correlation created between them. Emotional intelligence can be defined as the capability to manage and identify individual emotions and those of other people (Bhochhibhoya Branscum, 2015). On the other hand, Social anxiety is defined as the fear of interacting with people that creates a feeling of self consciousness or being negatively judged (Blackhart, Williamson, Nelson, 2015). • 6. Come and See, directed by Elem Klimov Those that engage in the activity of war can be noted as mad and insane, but some individuals may also be considered brave souls, and that all depends on the select few that dare to go through with the entire process of being involved in such a feat. The forces in the war who only murder to get a rise out of and who continually toy with the on lookers can be portrayed as mad and insane, while those who decide to join the noble partisans, despite perhaps even being drafted, to play their part in war were considered to be brave young soldiers. This was exactly the case in Russian director Elem Klimov s 1985 film Come and See. The main character, Florian, a boy of fourteen years, is dragged into a war by the force of the Belorussian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only thing that results from the act of war is endless violence and death, and that in itself does not seem very kind to the average being, despite having to deal with it, and accepting the fact that actions such as that would happen in society no matter what is a difficult task that not only the average being, but also the everyday pacifist and everyone alike, no matter what the circumstance or situation, all should know of the truth that goes on in the world, no matter how much it hurts, because it must learn to be accepted by each and every individual sooner or later. The ironic style of Crane s writing is an element that needs to be given closer and further inspection and examination until one finally reads between the lines and sees what Crane is trying to state. His last line of the second stanza of War is Kind , which is refrained a second time at the end of the fourth stanza, A field where a thousand corpses lie (Crane 11, 22) can reflect back to Come and See, with both the bodies in the back of Florian s house and the villagers that were burned to death in the barn. The way the brave army soldiers and noble partisans are portrayed in Come and See shows them as serious individuals that would do anything to win what could be considered the most important war of their entire lives, let alone, just a simple fight. They are portrayed as warriors that will continue to strike until the bouts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Critique of The Raising of the Cross Essay The Raising of the Cross is one in a series of paintings based on the crucifixion of Christ by Peter Paul Rubens. This piece was painted between 1609 and 1610 with oil on canvas in life size with the centerpiece of the triptych measuring 15 2 by 11 2 . It is now displayed in the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp, Belgium (Dunton, 164). Peter Paul Rubenswas a Flemish artist that painted in Baroque style, his paintings were mostly of religious and mythical origin and his skill in such has been highly regarded in his lifetime and since. After his father s death and his family moving to Antwerp he decided he wished to be a painter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the center panel of The Raising of the Cross, there are many men struggling to lift Christ on the cross. I think the implied significance of this is the biblical reference to the weight of the sins of the world being on Christ and his death being the ultimate sacrifice. Ruben seems to portray this by showing how heavy a weight that is by the men struggling to lift Christ. The angling of the cross and the styling of the painting is very similar to Ruben s artistic inspirations, such as Caravaggio (Getlein 425). Besides the cross, there seems to be a clearly implied line pointing to the sign above Jesus head where it states that he is Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews in multiple languages (Bible, Gospel of John 19:19 20). There appears to be, what looks like, a skull in the wall behind the cross, this would likely be the skull of Goliath, since the hill is Golgotha (the Place of the Skull) (Bible, Mark 15:22). Jesus is clearly more brightly lit than the rest of the painting giving him emphasis in the image and the rocks behind the group being subordinate to them. The man in red that is lifting the cross seems to stand out among the men, he isn t dressed the same and he s darker skinned than the rest, I suspect this could be Simon of Cyrene, the man that was ordered to carry Jesus cross after he collapsed (Bible, Luke 23:26)and Cyrene is in modern day Libya and Simon ... They worked with the school and the nurse to follow all of the schools procedures and protocols relating to a diagnosis of diabetes. The family worked closely with the school to provide snacks, glucose tablets, and information about how the school could help support Ashley s wellbeing. Ashley had a diabetic episode during a class where a substitute was teaching. She needed her glucose medication and the substitute would not allow Ashley to get the medication from her bag. The substitute also denied Ashley s request to go to the nurse. Ashley took it upon herself to go to the nurse anyway. Ashley did not make it to the nurse since her blood sugar was so low. She was found after the class very ill and disoriented and she had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The family was told by a doctor that this could have been a potentially fatal situation for Ashley. Comparing Pygmalion And The Makeover, By George Bernard Shaw No matter if a person is a reader of Pygmalion, written by George Bernard Shaw, or a viewer of The Makeover, it is understood both Eliza Doolittle and Elliot Doolittle are in need of a transformation. Throughout both the book and film, both characters were going through drastic changes in life. In the play, Pygmalion, Eliza Doolittle, living in London England, was considered an illiterate, poor girl. Eliza is a girl that stands at a flower shop and sells flowers. Hannah is competing against a local weather man for a Congress position. As the film continues, Hannah s outcome is not so great; she loses to the local weather man. Hannah Higgins is compared to Henry Higgins, in Pygmalion, because she is grumpy most of the time. After her recent loss, Hannah and Colleen Pickering were back at the office reviewing. Elliot Doolittle, the local beer distributor, walked by. He was speaking in a language nobody could understand. Hannah walked up to him telling him his speaking was not correct. He was extremely offended by her comment and walked away. The local weather man, competing for the role, never got the weather right, so the day he made his speech was not any different. He did not know of any thunderstorms in the area, so he died from a lightning strike. Hannah Higgins was, then, eligible to be in the race again. People would not vote for her, though, so she had to find some way to win the race. Her perfect solution was to get Elliot Doolittle in the race. In Tell Tale Heart, Edgar Allan Poe illustrates that the narrator has an acute need of the old man s vulture eye and eventually murders the man on the eighth night. The author highlights the events of the murder and soon, the narrator confesses to the police of his guilt. As Edgar Allan Poe fabricates this short story, he enthralls the readers by giving the events specific detail. If the narrator ever lacked the mental capacity, he wouldn t be able to plan out what he was going to do. From the perspective of the premeditated murder side, he planned out what he was going to do. For example, if he was criminally insane, he would not be deceptively kind to the old man, he would just not talk to him for the rest of the week and eventually the old man would suspect something. The second reason why he is guilty of premeditated murder is that he had a motive. A motive to assassinate the old man. • 15. William Shakespeare s King Lear Essay Shakespeare s King Lear is regarded to be one of his most successful piece of literature, published in the 17th century, in which he depicts a dramatic adaptation of relationships between parents and their children. Preceding the twentieth century, several critics have deemed King Lear as a classic tragedy and therefore labelling the character of Lear as a tragic hero . This is because much like the ancient Greek legend of Oedipus, Lear s sense of pride is what consequently leads to his demise from the very beginning, where Lear is arguably at the pinnacle of his power. Therefore, upon the traditional reading of King Lear, Lear s human qualities shown following his downfall as king would prove this character suitable for the title as a tragic hero; where a lesson can be learned, thus allowing an Elizabethan audience to feel a sense of moral justice at the end of the play (however, the existence of the sub plot involving Edmund and Gloucester alongside that of Lear s tragedy and his daughters implies a lack of distinction from Lear s character to other true tragic heroes). In light of this, it could change our overall interpretation of the play itself to be Shakespeare s personal comments on the Human Condition to his advantage, removes any suspicion that he may be making a direct comment on the death of an ageing monarchy and rise of a usurper towards the Catholic James 6th of Scotland by intentionally setting the play in a pre Christian Albion world. Such events may range from merciless persecution by a ruthless dictator to a furious tsunami that leaves destruction in its wake. In such incidents, it is human nature to help those affected rebuild their lives and find comfort again. As a result, governments spend billions on foreign aid projects aimed at helping populations rebuild themselves after a tragic event. Despite the funding and resources spent on these projects, their success rate is dismal. Coyne s book explains the flaws of state led humanitarianism. Using case studies that range from Afghanistan to Haiti, Coyne successfully argues against state aid proving that continuing with that approach is likely to remain unsuccessful. He further demonstrates that state aid fails to fulfill its mandate because the parties involved are either too arrogant or ignorant to acknowledge fundamental flaws of state led aid. He says that the influence of agenda driven opinions of blurs the objectives of financial assistance from the beginning. Since governments focus on what they should, rather than what they can do, the goals of the most aid funded projects in affected nations remain unrealized. In my opinion, Coyne s work is very convincing because it methodically shows how aid moves from a state agency to the project in question and the various parties in the middle that take away ... Many of those who are not, are the ones who illegally get their weapon or intend to use the weapon in a harmful way. The 12 Golden Rules are: one, always treat the gun as if it is loaded. Two, always keep the muzzle point in a safe direction. Three, always keep one s finger off the trigger until one is ready to shoot. Four, always keep the gun unloaded until one is ready to use it. Five, never point the gun the gun at anything one does not tend to destroy. Six, be sure of what one s target is and what is beyond it. Seven, learn the mechanical and characteristics of the gun one is using. Eight, always use the proper ammunition. Nine, be sure the barrel of the gun is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting the gun. Ten, if the gun fails to fire hold one s position for a few seconds then carefully unload the gun with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Eleven, do not rely on the gun s safety to keep it from firing. Twelve, be aware of one s surroundings when handling a loaded gun so they do not trip and/or lose their balance, and accidentally point and/or fire the gun at anyone or anything they do not intend to (Magtech Ammunition 1). For example, the schedule provides a controlled grid to organise strands genres, genre groupings connect across programmes and programmes connect to nearby programmes (Lealand Martin, 2001). Moreover, every individual element of a television programme connects, in some way, to the producers purpose of the show (Lealand Martin, 2001; Horrocks, 2004). Thus, each feature of a programme is considered in terms of the appeal to its target audienceand genre. This essay will analyse how the TV3 show Dancing with the Stars (New Zealand) is structured and produced to suit the purpose of the show and appeal to the target audience. Furthermore, reinforcing the idea that programmes have a motive for every individual element in their structure. Firstly, the genre of Dancing with the Stars, time slot in schedule, and the aspects of its television station have influence in the show s target audience and purpose (Creeber, 2008). This influence of target audience can also be seen when analysing the structure of the show. Furthermore, the producer uses various production techniques to appeal to the audience. This case had been previously heard by the Supreme Court resulting in a 7 1 decision that explained the University had no grounds to apply any preference to racial minorities in the application or the acceptance process. The case was reopened at both the fifth circuit court and the Supreme Court. There will be seven justices presiding over this case, with the death of Justice Antonin Scalia and Justice Elena Kagan recusing herself. The University of Michigan Law School had denied the admission of Barbara Grutter, a white female. The Law School admits that it uses race as a factor in making admissions decisions because it serves a compelling interest in achieving diversity among its student body. The court ruled in favor of the University of Michigan, because no single factor eliminated a certain applicant from being denied admission and race was seen as a factor that would help diversity in the law school. • 27. Milton Friedman And Milton Keynes There have been different views from John Maynard Keynes, Milton Friedman and central banks when it comes to inflation. However, what both John Maynard Keynes and Milton Friedman can agree on is the fact that inflation is seen to be a great evil. Moreover, the central banks interpret inflation as moderate being the fact that some inflationis seen to them as tolerable. Historically, Friedman and Keynes have had disputes on a better system for the control of inflation. For instance, Friedman put forward the monetary policy for the government to use in order to keep interest rates to stabilize an economy, whereas Keynes believed the government should be in control of inflation by the amount of spending produced between goods and services. Central banks have viewed both reasoning s to Keynes and Friedman s theories and decided the monetary policy is the best route for an economy to take. A great example of this can be illustrated in Canada with inflation rates only being kept between 1 and 3 percent. The other factors that central banks might have to deal with in other countries would be the change in political views and how much power the government has over central banks to control cash flow throughout their respective countries. The central banks must also avoid dealing with poor decisions made by government leaders which could affect the economy tremendously. It is known that hemophilia, albinism, and certain structural abnormalities are inheritable. Family gene maps, called pedigrees, can help families with serious diseases avoid having children with the same diseases through genetic counseling, and, increasingly, prospective parents can be tested directly for the presence of undesired genes. She had a couple of examples displayed on the smart board. She read the sentence and called on students to answer specific questions relating to her lesson. Some students were eager to answer and others not so much. Mrs. Lawrence frequently utilizes rhymes and actions, such as rhythm hand clapping to gain her student s attention. She also uses songs to give students enough time to get their things together during lesson transitions or station transitions located throughout her classroom. The sayings and hand actions very catchy, and her signing was a great way to get students to take responsibility for themselves and to do as instructed. Mrs. Lawrence divided her students into four stations or groups during her Reading/Writing and Math lessons. My score was also determined based off of my followership behavior due to my respective boss. C.Strengths: My effective follower strengths include me offering my support and encouragement to my boss when things are not going well. Also, clarifying my role in tasks by making sure I understand my boss s expectations of me and my performance standards. For example, while at work one day my boss was troubled with a technical request that required a custodial staff assistant to come in and fix. However, this situation happen to take place on a weekend where there was no custodial staff in at the time. So instead, my boss gave me the difficult assignment of troubleshooting this particular technical problem. The problem dealt with fixing two electrical outlets which had blew out from too much power being connect to one electric circuit. In this incident my boss suggested that she would take the lead and help me. However, this was actually a new experience for the both of us, as we never dealt with this type of technical issue before. While attempting to configure the task at hand we simply used critical thinking to best equip the problem. I suggested the idea of finding the circuit breaker box, shutting all circuits off, checking for any bad fuses and then restarting all the circuit breakers to see if those electrical outlets would work again. • 32. Nature Is A Product Of The Earth Coastlines have always been something of interest throughout human history. We have built homes, parks and even cities along them, but at what cost? Coastlines are not found in nature; they are products of human initiative... (Gillis 99). This quote said by John R. Gillis brings up a very important discussion. Are coastlines found in nature or have they been built into something we as humans wanted them to be? When the quote is first read, it may be easy to say of course coastlines exist in nature because they are nature. Although, when looking at it deeper one must ask what is the definition of nature. Nature is defined as the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without those piles and bulkheads those houses would not be able to be there. Which is an example of changing nature to support the want we have to live on the coast. This was seen also in San Francisco in the mid 1800 s. The gold rush hit San Francisco in 1849 and in two years the town of 1,000 people turned into a large coastal city of 25,000 people. The land behind the bay was mountains and was not a good fit for expanding the city so they built near the shore. As the city grew throughout the years a need for more land increased. They began to build into the bay and actual changed the outline of the coast entirely. They used the steam paddy to fill in large areas of the San Francisco s coast. As they began to make land and build on it numerous problems began to be discovered. Besides physically changing the entire shoreline of San Francisco, it created man traps that were uneven fillings of land that would sink when people stepped on them, it also created seismic hazards, which was seen by the 1906 Earthquake, and fire hazards, which was also seen by the Great Fire of 1851 (Dyl Lecture). Helena s family was very religious, so she and her nine siblings grew up with an understanding of the Catholic faith, despite their immense poverty. It was apparent that she was deeply interested in Catholicism from a very young age. She first attended Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the impressionable age of seven. From there, her love of prayer and devotion to the Lord only increased. She celebrated her first Holy Communion at age nine. Helena only had a three year education. Right when she got out of school, she wanted to enter a convent. However, her parents refused to give her permission. Once she became old enough, Helena got a job as a housekeeper to support herself and her family. She never could have expected the coming wonders the Lord had in store for her. Around 1924, Helena had the privilege of experiencing her first vision of Christ. She was at a dance with her sister when she saw an image of Jesus covered in wounds from his suffering on the cross. • 41. Globalization Theory Globalization Theory Globalization theory is defined as an approach that addresses the development of the global resurgence of religion (Christiano et al., 2016). With the resurgence of religion came Fundamentalism, which originated in American Protestantism. Fundamentalists where known for practicing the essential fundamentals of Christianity, fighting back the modernization of religion. T.K Oommen (1994) defines fundamentalism as text without context ; meaning the scriptures written back in history where relevant to that history and culture at that time and place (Christiano et al., 2016). Such texts without context then simply disregard current settings. Fundamentalists believe their religion is the objective truth, which as a result, defines other religions as myths (Christiano et al., 2016). Globalization has shifted religious views in our society, from predominately Fundamentalist based to more modern. This shift in religious views has resulted in religions catered to anyone and everyone. Faith is what allows us to accept a truth, a truth believed by many, resulting in religion. The Truth The three greatest Western religions are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam (Christiano et al., 2016). Different societies interpret the Word of God differently. • 45. Analysis Of Samuel Taylor Coleridge s Kubla Khan Experts widely regard Samuel Taylor Coleridge as one of the few major leaders of British Romanticism. His poems, both individual works and collaborations with another Romantic leader, William Wordsworth, are proof of this. His works incorporated ideas that are often found in Romantic poetry, such as a reverence for nature, emphasis on emotion and imagination over reason and logic, and other themes that contradicted thinkers of the Age of Reason. Coleridge assisted in the change from Enlightenment ideals favoring rationality and deduction to a thinking with your heart style. Coleridge had a strange childhood as the last of ten children and largely isolated from the world, and therefore had few companions other than the books he so loved to read. This exposed him to the ideas that eventually made him into the renowned Romantic poet readers view him as today. Coleridge s upbringing in 18th century England and close association with other poets, including the co authoring of Lyrical Ballads with William Wordsworth, helped form his worldview and poetic style, evidenced in his poem Kubla Khan, which in turn shaped English Romanticismand the way readers would look at poetry forever. One of the largest influences on Coleridge was his unusual adolescence and the people he met, as a child and later on. It could be said that definition of The Sociological Imagination is having the ability to look beyond personal experience and realise that society is shaped by the cross over between biography and history. Mills thought that everyone in society had the capability to think sociologically and that this was essential to gain a deeper understanding of both their society, and their current circumstance. This approach contradicts a more readily adopted approach by the public that sociologists call The common sense approach . The common sense approach is a collection of knowledge that has been acquired through little scientific merit, such as: personal experience, gossip or anecdotal evidence. This essay will discuss and explain the difference between the Sociological Imagination and Common Sense explanations through the use of examples to explain the topic of sexuality. Sexuality is an issue that has been widely discussed and has often been misunderstood by society. It has often been a misconception by members of the heterosexual community that all lesbians want to be men. metal nanohole arrays fabricated
by electron beam and nanosphere lithography. INTRODUCTION Extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) through nanohole arrays has been concentrated broadly in several aspects, including the hypothesis and confirmation of its origin parameters influencing its intensity, the optical properties, for example like its transmission spectra and divergence. Several parameters including the refractive index of the medium on the metal film surface, the wavelength and condition of polarization of the incident light, the holes shape and periodicity of the structures change the spectral behavior in term of intensity and position of the transmitted peaks. The structures that support EOT have discovered their applications in numerous fields including visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, sub wavelength optics, nonlinear optics, and photolithography. As the EOT is influenced by parameters like the shape and periodicity of the holes, devices made in light of this marvel will be more sensitive and supports larger selectivity. Regardless of these advantages a large portion of existing use of EOT has been acknowledged on the structures with limited region of coverage. Because of the constrained techniques and choices for fabrication of such structures, the EOT based devices were fabricated with finite array sizes. When blown through, the conch creates a roaring blare that allows everyone to hear it. This conch becomes the most important motif since it keeps the boys organized. This conch is also used to create order among the boys to signify who has the right to talk, that way everyone has a chance to be heard without being interrupted. This is apparent when Ralph says, And another thing. We can t have everybody talking at once. We ll have to have Hands up like at school ... And he won t be interrupted. Except by me. Jack was on his feet. We ll have rules! he cried excitedly. Lots of rules! (Golding 33). This rule associated with the conch helps the boys to maintain a civilized structure by demanding the boys to give respect. Every time the conch is blown, the boys gather and anytime anyone wants to speak during these assemblies, they hold the shell. By instilling these 2 guidelines, all the boys have the opportunity to accept power and respect. To keep control in the group, the boys decide to run their society similar to an autocracy. All the boys agree electing a chief to lead the group will be the most effective way to stay organized and civilized until they are rescued. This is evident when Jack says, We ve got to decide about being rescued ... seems we ought to have a chief to decide things (22). By appointing a leader to guide the boys it will keep the chaos contained and encourage the boys to remain cordial towards each other and avoid barbaric behavior. Ralph and Jack both want the title of chief, however, when all the boys vote, Ralph is the clear cut winner. Electing a leader and using the conch to summon the group together are very important if the boys want to protect their civilized life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
