Essay Ancient Corinth
Ancient Corinth
?Unlike most other cities in the ancient world, Corinth was a city destined for prosperity and
longevity no matter who occupied it or how it was governed.? It is as old, or older, than any
other ancient Greek city, with origins that lie only in myths and legends that are more than two
thousand years old.? Little is known of who established the city or when it was actually founded.?
What we do know is Corinth was a very important city and it became a major player in ancient
Greek and Roman history.?
?The main reason for the existence of Corinth is the same reason for its greatness.? The ancient
civilizations of the Mediterranean world produced this city out of geographical and commercial
necessity.? The southern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

?Corinth being at the center of all this trading activity, it is no surprise that the city was

Stress Is The Body s Way Of Demand
Stress is the body s way of responding to any kind of demand. People s bodies react in different
ways to stress depending on how the view and handle the demand. Stress can be caused by
multiple factors such as friends, family, jobs, schools, and worldview. The way we handle the
different stresses of life can either greatly improve our quality of life or harm it. There are two
forms of coping with stress and the first is problem focused coping. This form of coping is
aimed at managing or correcting the distressing situation (Coon, Psychology: modules for active
learning). Then there is emotion focused coping where we try to control the emotions caused by
the situation. Both forms of coping can be used in unison with each other. Being able to control
your emotions could help you manage the stress in your life. However, it is possible for the two
methods to cancel each other out. When making a difficult decision, a person may feel an intense
form of emotional distress. In this moment, making an easy decision seems like the best option to
end the suffering but the easy decision might not be the best one. The easy way out may cause later
harm to a person s physical and mental wellbeing. The harmful effects of stress on the human body
is limitless. When under stress muscles in the body tense up and become rigid. This is a defense
mechanism used by the body to prevent injury. Frequent stress and muscle tensing can potentially
lead to stress related disorders such as ulcers,

The Effects Of Child Abuse On The United States
It s difficult to comprehend that an adult, often a parent or caregiver, would intentionally hurt an
infant or child. Yet nearly a million children are abused in the United States. Unfortunately that
excludes children who s incidents of child abuse are unreported and undetected. Child abuse can
be defined differently from state to state, but commonly presents in the form of physical,
emotional, and sexual abuse, neglect and abandonment. The focus of this review is physical
abuse, which is defined as non accidental physical injury, from bruising to fractures to the most
serious cases of abuse ending in death (Sink, Hyman, Matheny, Georgopoulos Kleinman, 2010).
Non accidental trauma (NAT) is a leading cause of childhood traumatic injury and death in the
United States. It is estimated that 1,400 children died from maltreatment in the United States in
2002, and abusive head trauma (AHT) accounted for 80% of these deaths (Paul Adamo, 2014).
AHT, also known as shaken baby syndrome or inflicted traumatic brain injury can be caused by
direct blows to the head, dropping or throwing a child, or shaking a child. Though the incident
may only last for a few seconds, the effects can last a lifetime. According to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention of the United States, abusive head trauma (AHT) is most common
in children under age 5, with children under one year of age at most risk. Nearly all victims of
AHT suffer serious, long term health consequences such as vision

ruin of many people. The gambling addiction has rarely been in the favor of the gambler whether it
is blackjack gambling, poker or other different gambling. It is the gambling industry that always
ends up making fortunes from their gamblinginvestments. Most people have seriously been
addicted to gambling, and they have always found it hard to walk out even after experiencing total

win something or rather getting into a raffle with a friend, purchase of a lottery ticket,
participating in casinos, slot machines and cards. Besides, gambling addiction is quite evident
when one ends up getting into a financial ruin, and feels that it is only gambling that can help
solve the situation by winning more cash. However, this has always ended up in an unending cycle
that keeps going around till rehabilitation becomes the only option for recovery (Charles np). There
have been cases of gambling addiction when people decide to make bets that are quite risky while

Soldier s Light Essay
Twenty two year old Justin Rollins was the son of a close family friend of the Preston family,
who was killed by a roadside bomb in 2007 during his deployment in Iraq. Justin was scheduled
to come home three weeks later with the intention to propose to his girlfriend. After the news of
his death reached the Preston family, Rylee witnessed how distraught her father became, so she
decided writing a song could be a source of solace. The music video Soldier s Light is dedicated
to SPC Justin Rollins and the Ride for the Fallen memorial scholarship. By examining Rylee

Literary Criticism Of Literature And Literature
Literature has no set definition, mainly because throughout history writers, as well as literary
historians have failed to construct an agreeable definition (Bressler 12). When one thinks of
literature, he or she should think of literary criticism different critical perspectives. Literary
criticism requires readers to analyze literary texts with knowledge of theories. Thus, the next time
one reads a text, he or she should first identify the theory that he or she plans to use. The theories
represent a set of critical lens that one will use to analyze the text critically. For instance, this
paper will focus on the New Criticism theory; it is a theory that requires readers to focus entirely
on the text itself. Readers do not need to focus on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a New Critic perspective, when analyzing a poem, it is pivotal for readers to pay close
attention to the poem s structure and form, especially since it can help him or her understand the
poem s overall meaning.
In life, human beings will encounter many challenging obstacles throughout his or her long and
stressful journey here on earth, especially since success is the ultimate goal that he or she
wishes to achieve. In the first quatrain of Angelou s poem, a simile is depicted: You may trod
me in the very dirt / But still, like dust, I ll rise (3 4). Here, it is evident that Angelou wants
readers to realize that life will step on he or she as if him or her is a pile of dirt; however, if he
or she is determined to overcome his or her challenges, he or she will rise just like dust. The
simile depicted in quatrain one, forces readers, from a New Critic viewpoint, to realize that the
essential meaning of Angelou s poem lies within each line of the poem objective meaning.
Furthermore, in life, human beings will encounter different individuals exposure to diversity.
Human beings learn from one another; however, certain people tend to encounter human beings
who are miserable with his or her life. In fact, people who feel dejected tend to not motivate
others to achieve his or her lifelong goals this is portrayed in quatrain six of Angelou s poem: You
may kill me with your hatefulness, / But still, like air, I ll rise (23 24). Here, Angelou uses a

Seventh Grade Vs Melting Pot
The two conflicts of Seventh Grade and the Melting Pot are both very different from one another.
In Seventh Grade the conflict is internal. However, in Melting Pot the conflict is external. They
both are based around diverse things. They each take place between different groups of people. In
Seventh Grade the narrator is a boywith internal conflicts who has a crush on a girl; while in
Melting Pot the main conflict is external among other people because they all argue about things
that don t matter. This essay will explain if and how the conflicts have winners.
In Seventh Grade a young boy named Victor is introduced, and the conflict is when he begins to
explain how much he wants to be with Teresa. He is also trying to hang out with her by choosing
the elective she chose. When they are in French, Victor lies by saying he knows how to speak
French; therefore, he is quickly quizzed by the teacher with a simple conversation. He says words
that sound like French and Mr. Bueller understands he does not know the foreign language;
consequently, Teresa believes he knows it and is impressed by him speaking it, so she asks him to
help her with it some other times and he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Seventh Grade Marcus has an internal conflict with a crush on a girl, and she believes he can
speak French, and this conflict is resolved by Teresa asking to be tutored by Marcus in French.
In Melting Pot the conflict is the fact that the people of different cultures have different opinions
about one another. The old comers believe the newcomers raised pay rent, while the newcomers
view the old comers as bigots for blaming them in the rent raise. This conflict is not resolved
because after they are stirred up from a certain problem they all dislike, they all fall apart and go
back to blaming one another for incidents. This goes to show a story may have a conflict, however,
it is not always

Lady Germanotta
In a world of auto tuned music with processed lyrics and a general lack of individuality,
outstanding talent is laborious to come by. However, this is not the case with Stefani Joanne
Angelina Germanotta; most commonly known under the name Lady Gaga. Raised in a Catholic
household with roots based in family, she was brought up with traditional conservative views.
However, growing up in Manhattan, New York, Gaga was consistently surrounded by all forms of
art. Since the young age of thirteen, Stefani began writing her own music and playing the piano. At
seventeen, prior to singing, she studied at the Collaborative Arts Project 21 through New York
University s Tisch School of the Arts. This did not last for long, as Stefani left school to be... Show

Since a young age, she has known that she was attracted to both male and female, identifying
herself as bisexual. This was an issue for her in school, as it led to bullying. However, when it
currently comes to pressing sexual questions by interviewers, she answers them without faltering.
While she believes everyone has the choice to disclose what information they want, Stefani
Germanotta also does not think being gay or being bisexual or being sexually free is anything
that should be hidden...it is who I am (Snider). Her stability with sexuality and sex in general is
also evident in her body of work. In the song Love Game , she has provocative lines such as I
wanna take a ride on your disco stick among other suggestive innuendos (Carman). In terms of her
acting career, her recent involvement with the television series American Horror Story: Hotel has
brought the media flocking. Throughout the season, Lady Gaga was shown in multiple sexually
explicit scenes with both male and female counterparts. With her boldness on the topic, Stefani
works to send messages to her fans that sex is an important subject to discuss. Although the air
of seriousness has disappeared from the topic, she believes it s [important] for my generation, a
most relevant consideration when you re growing up. Sex doesn t mean nothing; sex means so
much... I hope that young women know that sex is still a big deal (Thompson). While some
people would prefer to label sex as a taboo matter, the discussion of the subject by celebrities like
Gaga provide the needed insensitivity and education that is often forgone. Stigmatism revolving
around the topic of sexual assault leaves it a delicate subject to discuss, yet a necessary
conversation. The lack of boundaries for the crime is proven with one in six women falling victim
of the horrendous attack. At the age of

Firewall Essay
TABLE OF CONTENT
ABSTRACT/SYNOPSIS
A firewall is a product that sets up a security border whose primary undertaking is to piece or
limit both approaching and active data over a system. These firewalls are fundamentally not
compelling and suitable for professional workplaces to keep up security of data while it bolsters
the free trade of perspectives. In this paper, i think about system firewall that helps the
professional workplace and alternate systems that need to trade data over the system. A firewall
ensures the stream of activity over web and is less prohibitive of outward and internal data and

It ensures protection by standing amongst system and the outside world. The information move in
any direction must go through the firewall.
3.0 TYPES OF FIREWALLS :
There are various types of technique which might be executed by a firewall. Some of them are as
per the following:
Packet channel
Application gateway
Circuit level gateway
Proxy server
3.1 PACKET FILTER:
It focuses at one packet at once and after that it applies some set of guidelines to every packet
and afterwards it chooses to either forward the packet or dispose the packet. The standards depend
on various fields in the IP and TCP/UDP headers i.e. Source and destination address, IP protocol
field, TCP/UDP port number.
Attackers can break the security with the assistance of following techniques:
IP ADDRESS SPOOFING : In this kind of attack, attackers send a packet to inside network, by
setting source
IP address equals to IP address of inside client.
SOURCE ROUTING ATTACKS: Here attackers determine the route that is trailed by the packet to
move along the web with the goal that packet filter can be tricked to sidestep its normal checks.
Solution: The solution of this attack is disposed of all packets that use this alternative.
Advantages:
It is Simple to execute.
Low hardware cost, shabby boxes can do packet filtering.
Rules set are less complex.

John Cleland s Memoirs Of A Woman Of Pleasure Essay
In general, the prostitutes in John Cleland s Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (1748), Fanny Hill
included, have few individual characteristics: different eye colors, degrees of plumpness, and
beauty traits such as Emily s even white teeth (96) hardly vary the novel s depiction of what may
be described as the stereotypic prostitute. The repeated portraits of fair skinned Englishwomen who
are incapable of pregnancy, immune to disease, and sexually responsive far beyond the call of . . .
professional duty become the eighteenth‑century version of the centerfold (Markley 348),
verbally airbrushing both the prostitutes looks and the harsh realities of their working conditions
in order to stimulate a male readership that has a libidinal investment in the novel s sexual
fantasy. The novel s prostitutes, then (with the notable exception of Phoebe), possess a
remarkable sameness, as Fanny herself notes about the employees of Mrs. Cole s brothel, in
terms of sex, age, profession, and views (93). On the other hand, the men in Cleland s novel
present the reader with a range of physical traits, class positions, and identities; I argue that the
figure of the standardized prostitute serves to mediate between these men in order to calibrate
them according to their penis size and sexual performance. Although Cleland principally aimed at
sexually arousing his reader, and the novel s purpose does not seem, in any marked way, to have
been political (Trumbach Erotic

Reflection Paper On Volleyball Player
This Club season, I would like to improve my knowledge of the sport, understand how to be a
supportive teammate, and develop into a better and more experienced volleyball player.
The position I enjoy the most is the outside hitter. I am fond of this position because I am not only
a skilled and talented hitter, but I am also useful in backrow. Therefore, an outside hitter is my
desired position because I believe this is where I would be the most useful to the team.
I would absolutely consider playing another position because I desire to support my team in
anyway the coaches see fit.
A position I am not willing to play is right side hitter because in a previous club season, I was
placed in that position and I did not get much playing time and I felt as though I was not
benefitting my team in any way. Also, I enjoy passing in the backrow and the position of right side
hitter is only a front row position.
My grade point average is a 98.75. My grades currently range from a 97 100%. School is a very big
aspect of my life and my goal is to continue to move forward in my studies.
On average, I study anywhere from one hour to three hours a night causing me to have plenty of
free time that could be used more productively.
I am motivated by goals and I feel it is very important to set goals for yourself in every aspect of
your life. I am also motivated by rewards and my personality causes me to want to fulfill all of the
potential possible for me.
My motivation increases when I am being supported by the people around me because then I will
not want to let them down. My parents also motivate me to do my best because they have set a
very high expectation for me, causing me to work for what I want. Yelling and fear of failure both
decrease my motivation. When I am in an environment that I feel comfortable in, my motivation
will increase, however, if I am in a space where I feel judged, I tend to not be motivated.
I have led by example when I tell the truth instead of taking the easy way out, when I take credit
for my actions and not sabotage my teammates. I also lead by example when I listen to and follow
instructions as well as when I am persistent and determined to reach a goal or support my
teammates.

Insight to Hamlet s identity is given through the use of soliloquies and monologues. As Hamlet
progresses, his thoughts and beliefs about avenging his father s death are shown and stated by
using soliloquies, asides, and monologues, one of which being the famed To be or not to be
speech (Shakespeare III, i, 64 95). These moments of Hamlet s dialogue, especially that infamous
soliloquy, reveal his true identity as one who is teetering between deciding whether or not to
avenge his father s death.
On the other hand, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern frequently uses dialogue between the two title
characters. With this dialogue they are able to work out their identities, from figuring out who they
are (Stoppard I, 22) to trying to figure out if it is worth it to change fate because their ...movement
is contained within a larger one... (Stoppard III, 122). In both plays, speech is used to help develop
characters identities, while Hamlet relies on one person, Hamlet, to develop his identity, although

James Petrie Mackenzie
Introduction In 1875 James Petrie Mackenzie traveled by boat for a better life from Scotland to
New Zealand. James left Scotland because of the unhealthy environments, there was also not much
land at the time or money to go around. Overpopulated cities were also a problem. These push
factors caused many Scots to leave their homeland in search of better conditions. New Zealand
offered many pull factors. There was an abundance of cheap land, more job opportunities, a better
lifestyle and in many cases free passage to New Zealand.
Background of ancestor My ancestor who immigrated from Scotland in 1867,was James Petrie
Mackenzie. James was born in Aberdeen Scotland on 31 October 1850, he also grew up in
Kincardine for many years. James was a blacksmith like his father before him and his father before

At the time there was a large amount of land for sale and new settlements were being built which
required skilled workers to help build roads, schools, and churches, for an example my ancestor
James helped to build a railway line from Marton to New Plymouth. A history of this line shows it
was built in stages with the New Plymouth to Stratford section being built in the early 1880 s.
Pull factor 2
Another pull factor that led scots to New Zealand was that New Zealand offered higher wages and
much more job opportunities than Scotland did. Letters from family members about higher wages
in New Zealand Encouraged the Scots to emigrate over to New Zealand.
Decision of pull factor there were much more opportunities elsewhere in the world for most scottish

hard working people could earn better and more money, and because there was not enough money

Rap Vs Country
What people really think Everyone would say Country is the purist of all music genres but if we
take a closer look at the lyrics of the popular songs, is it like rap in the long run. From Keith
Pounds song She wore a Red Dress which is all about a hunting down a girl and getting in a huge
fight and killing her. Most country songs have the darkest of meanings. Instead of criticizing
them we tap our toes to the beat of the music and it becomes the most listened to song on the
radio. What is better for kids to listen to rap or country? Rap is the most criticized music genre out
there all because it has a bad history with law enforcement and the public. Like the author says

Alex Rodriguez Broke Into Spring Camp With The Seattle...
In 1994, an 18 year old kid from Miami named Alex Rodriguez broke into spring camp with the
Seattle Mariners in an attempt to make the team. After almost immediately stepping into a Major
League baseball field he became a household name. Within two years, he was an All Star. Within
five, a regular 40 homer player. By the turn of the century, many were already putting him into the
Hall of Fame discussion.
On August 12, 2016, Rodriguez played what will be his final game as a New York Yankee after an
incredible 12 years in New York. Considering the 41 year old s lack of playing time and declining
production after a resurgent effort in 2015, this may very well be the end of the A Rod era entirely.
And for A Rod, he was prepared to leave the game he fell in love with as a child.
I do want to be remembered as someone who was madly in love with the game of baseball, someone
who loves it at every level, Rodriguez said. Someone who loves to learn it, play it, teach it, coach
it. And also, I m going to be hopefully remembered as someone who tripped and fell a lot, but
someone that kept getting up.
Rodriguez has led a very controversial 22 year baseball career. His lowest moment being when he
was infamously suspended for the entire 2014 season following the Biogenesis investigation. The
longest suspension ever served in Major League Baseball history.
But his story did not end there.
In his 2015 campaign, in an attempt to redeem himself and earn back the love from the fans

How My Irish Culture Has Affected My Culture
Beep! Beep! I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock and the smell of an Irish recipe my mom
makes me every Sunday morning. She makes homemade croissants, eggs, and bacon. Sometimes
my mom makes a homemade Ireland cinnamon and sugar bread. Ireland affects my daily life in
many ways. My culture is reflected through the foods we eat, the sports we play , and holidays we
celebrate. Food has a big impact on my culture.
Food has a big impact on my family we try to have an Irish dish every Sunday for lunch, dinner and

Examples Of Figurative Language In To An Athlete Dying Young
A. E. Housman was a well known poet of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Within his two
most famous publications, A Shropshire Lad and Last Poems, Housman effectively uses his adept
understanding of language, its usage, and style to portray the significant themes behind all of his
poems. To an Athlete Dying Young is a perfect example of Housman s ability to convey his
message to the reader through his use of diction, syntax, and tone. Writers make specific choices in
the type of words, sentence structures, phrases and figurative language that they use in their poetry.
These decisions combine to create particular meaning within their works. Housman uses a formal
diction in To an Athlete Dying Young which definitely creates a clear and

Corporate Social Responsibility has Risen to Prominence...
What is CSR and why has it risen to prominence in the past decade?
There are now several concepts of CSR and its definition, along with the meaning across
corporations. In my opinion, and according with our textbook in page 11. CSR is about a
particular set of business and strategies that deal with social issues. In addition, we can clearly
perceive that CSRs application along corporations has increase in the past decade due to the several
local, and international regulations in order to enforce business to act responsible.

There are several factors that determine that at the moment CSR is primarily relevant to large
private sectors, according with our textbook, First, SMEs are informal in nature and this reason
lack the need for bureaucratic systems and its structures due to the advantages of small size
businesses. Second, large corporations, are often under the loop of the society and their actions are
visible and vulnerable to criticism. And third, usually the small business are manger by the owner
and for this reason, there is not obligation or direct pressure to serve the shareholders to maximize
or return their investment at any cost.

Servant Leadership Characteristics Of A Servant Leader
In the broadest sense, a servant leader is one who leads others with the mindset of a servant. The
primary motivation of a servant leader is to provide encouragement and facilitation in others by
treating them as an ends in themselves rather than as a means to an ends. A servant leader values
the people he or she leads by sharing power and enabling others to develop and flourish (Waterman,
2011).
Waterman s (2011) study found the following:
The expression of servant leadership characteristics in service to others is putting other people
first. Every leader should have a servant s heart, show care and concern for others and be mentor
minded, that is, have the desire and concern to build and develop others, even at his or her own
expense. (p. 25)
While there are many characteristics that are central to the development of a servant leader, the
three that stand out are respectfulness, selflessness, and commitment. Respectfulness is defined as
treating others as important people because they are important (Hunter, 1998, p. 112). Every person
has value and deserves respect. The servant leader can set the level of respect within the
organization. Showing the same amount of respect to an assistant as you would an executive
provides motivation and encouragement, therefore yielding a higher level of performance (Hunter,
1998).
Selflessness is defined as meeting the needs of others even before your own (Hunter, 1998, p. 116).
Being selfless is necessary to serve others and lead

Analysis Of Being A Half Breed By Leslie Marmon
Leslie Marmon Silko s novel, Ceremony, reveals how the crossing of cultures was feared,
ridiculed, and shunned in various Native American tribes. The fear of change is a common and
overwhelming fear everyone faces at some point in their life. The fear of the unknown, the fear
of letting go, and the fear of forgetting all play a part in why people struggle with change. In
Ceremony the crossing of cultures creates half breeds, usually bringing disgrace to their family s

These derogatory terms were used against Tayo and Night Swan as they differed from the
Laguna people. Tayo and Night Swan are rejected by the white and Native populations, and it is
determined they are tainted or dirty compared to those ridiculing others. Night Swan says, they
think that if their children have the same color of skin, the same color of eyes, that nothing is
changing, which is why Auntie excludes Tayo from the family because of Tayo s mother s
mistake to interact with white men (Silko 92). We see a change in this perspective in today s
society as we have interracial families, where race plays little to no part in determining a couple s
love for one another. However, we do still have families which believe their children should marry
within the same race due to the fear of change within their own family.
Night Swan is initially an outcast because she is a half breed but her frivolous behavior pushes
her even further as a disgrace to women. Night Swan discusses the real reason her and Tayo are
outcasts, they are afraid, Tayo. They feel something happening, they can see something happening
around them, and it scares them. Indians or Mexicans or whites most people are afraid of change.
(Silko 92). Night Swan teaches Tayo about miscegenation and how the people do not physically fear
them, but rather fear the concept of change occurring around them. Night Swan

Essay about Miscegenation in “Desiree’s Baby”
Miscegenation in Desiree s Baby In Desiree s Baby, Kate Chopin centers on race and
miscegenation in the Creoles of Louisiana during the days when slavery was legal. Chopin brings
together two characters, Armand and Desiree who are completely different. Armand is a cruel
slave owner who comes from one of the oldest and proudest families in Louisiana, and Desiree is
adopted and doesn t know her biological ancestry. The two marry and have a son whose skin turns
dark after three months. Chopin shows how human beings are valued through skin color, and she
shows that interracial marriages and interbreeding are not acceptable. In the story, Chopin uses
three main characters, Armand, Desiree and the baby to show that loveand... Show more content on

At the end of the story, Armand finds a bundle of love letters and discovers one that was written
from his mother to his father. He reads it. She was thanking God for the blessing of her husband s
love: But above all, she wrote, night and day. I thank the good God for having so arranged our
lives that our dear Armand will never know that his mother, who adores him, belongs to the race
that is cursed with the brand of slavery. Armand discovers the truth that it is he who has the
Negro blood in him and not Desiree. Armand s father was not the racist that Armand is. His
father married a Negro woman and had a child of mixed blood, Armand. His parents raised him
in Paris where miscegenation was not a great issue as in the South. And although his mother had
Negro blood in her and was too dark to pass for white, they could not live openly as a mixed
couple in the States. And since nobody in Louisiana knows about Armand s mother, it is easy to
assume Armand is white. Although Armand s skin is dark, he is still able to become a cruel
slave owner who exercises superiority over any body he thinks is beneath him. When Armand
discovers that his child has Negro blood, he begins to treat Desiree as a possession just as his
slaves and he no longer wants to treat her as his wife. Armand could never become his father s
equal and love Desiree unconditionally as his father loved his mother in

The Autobiography of Malcolm X, written by Malcolm X himself and Alex Haley, concentrates
on Malcolm X s unapologetic and autodidactism. Although his approach to education was
unorthodox, once Malcolm X started to read he could not stop. His thirst for education became
unquenchable. During his time in prison he managed to self educate about the religion of Islam
and identify his true self. Living in America where black kids are discouraged and laughed at for
trying to pursue a professional career, Malcolm Xdropped out of high school because the education
system failed him. His teacher told him that a person of his kind was not suitable for a
sophisticated sifficticated role as a lawyer, instead a good carpenter was more reasonable. What that

Throughout his life Malcolm X faced oppression from white people. From having his family s
house burned by the KKK, to having his father killed by a white supremacy group and leaving
his mother destroyed, Malcolm had a deep sense of hatred towards white people in America.
This resulted in Malcolm developing this philosophy that black people should in no way accept
the help of white people. While he was in prison learning about the nation of Islam, his views on
white America grew strong. Leading to his advocacy to Pan Africanism. Malcolm shares in the
book, that freedom, independence and self respect could never be achieved by the Negro in
America, and that therefore the Negro should leave America to the white man and return to his
African land of origin. He simply believed that unless black people create a black nation, blacks
in America could never be economically stable due to the discrimination they will continuously
face. Later on in the book, he contradicts himself after his trip to Mecca and changes his views.
Neglecting his past belief of Pan Africanism, Malcolm came to the realization that blacks in
America could be successful with the participation of whites fighting alongside them for equal
rights. This came to be as a result of Malcolm witnessing race problems from different perspective

Misinformant And Misreading Ian Mcewan s Atonement
Misinformant and Wrongful conclusions In his essay Who Killed Robbie and Cecilia? Reading
and Misreading Ian McEwan s Atonement Martin Jacobi argues the role of misreading in Ian
McEwan s Atonement and the consequences of misreading and reading with preconception.
Misreading is the incorrect or misinterpretation of a reading. In McEwan s Atonement misreading is
a key concept that allows Ian McEwanto persuade readers into believing situations and conclusions
that are not confirmed. Jacobi s main argument examples focuses on the misreading and
interpretation of two main characters deaths, Robbie and Cecilia. The misreading in Atonement
causes readers to believe they are dead even though it is not confirmed. Jacobi further argues that
along with misreading reading with preconceptions also leads to misinterpretation, that when we
read we have preconceptions about the novelwhich leads to assumptions about what will occur.
(Jacobi 71) While Jacobi argues the negative of having preconceptions about a novel, having
knowledge and information about a novel and the author can be beneficial when trying to
understand the novel and the why in the novel. Knowing information about when the novel is set,
what was happening during this time can be useful for understanding as well as useful for avoiding
misreadings. Although I agree with Jacobi s argument that misreading and reading with
preconceptions can lead to misinterpretation and wrong conclusions, I do believe that having

Mccutcheon V. Federal Election Commission Essay
McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission was a 5 4 decision divided along liberal and
conservative lines. Shane McCutcheon is a businessman from Alabama who donated thousands of
dollars to various Republican committees and candidates. If he donated any more, he would violate
the limit to aggregate contributions established in the Federal Election Campaign Act and the
Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act. The aggregate limit capped the amount of money an individual
could donate to candidates and committees per two year election cycle at 123,000. McCutcheon and
the Republican National Committee sued the Federal Election Commission, which enforced
campaign finance regulations, arguing that the aggregate contribution limit violated the First
Amendment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argued that the precedent of the 1976 Buckley v. Valeo court case, which upheld aggregate
limits, did not apply in this situation because the court at the time did not consider McCutcheon s
legal argument and the situation in which aggregate limits functioned back then is 1976. Then, he
established that because an aggregate limit restricted how many candidates and committees an
individual to support, it limited free speech and thus was only justified if it was necessary to
prevent political corruption. He confined political corruption to bribery, arguing that if corruption
was understood as money resulting in more influence to or ingratiation from an officeholder, then
the government would have a say in who could govern, citing the precedent of Arizona Free
Enterprise Club s Freedom Club PAC v. Bennet. He also added that ingratiation and influence create
more responsive candidates and are therefore good for democracy. Roberts argued that aggregate
limits were not necessary to preventing bribery because any scenario where circumvention could
happen would be either illegal under earmarking rules or unlikely because many state parites would
have to participate in the scheme. There were also alternatives to preventing circumvention,
including restrictions on transfers among party committees and candidates, the tightening of
earmarking rules, and the implementation of broad disclosure

Ruling in the Griggs v. Duke Power Co. Case
Synopsis: Duke Power, a company being sued by its ethnic minority employees this included
Willie Griggs. Griggs would be filing the class action law suit along with several of his fellow co
workers for unfair processes in which attaining a promotion or higher paying position was met by
having a high school diploma and undergoing IQ testing. Prior to the civil rights act Blacks were
only allowed to work in the company s labor department, which happened to harbor its lowest
paying positions as well. After the implementation of IQ testing and the requirement of holding a
high school diploma it was found that Blacks were being selected at a lower rate for higher
positions than their white counterparts. Considered the first case of its type Griggs v. Duke Power
Co. was taken before the Supreme Court of the United States where it was found that the
requirements were not relevant to an employee s ability to perform a job. Therefore it was ruled
that Duke Power Co. promotion practices were discriminating against its black employees. The
Supreme Court found that in adding a requirement for promotion within a company the
requirements need to be reasonably related to the job for which the test is required thus bringing
into question test validity. The question is begged, Can employment practices be discriminatory if
there is no intent to discriminate? Although the Duke Power Company never intended to

The Cryptic Secrets Of Egyptian Pyramids
The Cryptic Secrets of Egyptian Pyramids The pyramid shaped masonry architectures are called
Pyramids, and there are eighty of them known as ancient Egyptian Pyramids. The Egyptian
Pyramids are the products of a slavery country, but they are also the great accomplishments of
ancient people. Since the first discovery of the Egyptian Pyramids, many scientists have been
dedicated in ancient Egyptstudy. After years of researching on the earliest Egyptian Pyramid,
Pyramid of Djoser, and the most famous Egyptian Pyramid, Pyramid of Khufu, Egyptologists have
successfully solved many mysteries of EgyptPyramid in the aspects of architecture, geography, and
math. They came up with a conclusion that Egyptian Pyramids are symbols of the ruler s power.
Influenced by the major studies, nowadays, people commonly acknowledge Egypt Pyramid as the
tomb of pharaohs . However, more questions about its purposes, building methods, and symbolic
meanings have been brought up in the last several years. The Egyptian Pyramids are not simply
historical architectures, and their mysteries have not been completely solved yet. Herodotus was an
ancient historian. He was born in Greece and lived in the fifth century BC. In about 450 B.C. he

I Had Never Get Out Of Your Head
You know that experience you have that you can really never get out of your head? It is not a
good memory, one you will probably not tell your mother about until you are well in your forties?
I had one of those during my second week of college. My group of friends that experienced this
night with me included my roommate Dionia, Reggie, Reginald, and Fredrek. I met Reggie through
Dionia, they are both from Orangeburg, SC and attended the same high school. Reginald is
Reggie s roommate which is how I met Reginald, and Fredrek is Reginald s friend. Fredrek,
Reginald and I all happen to be from the same town so we all clicked instantly. The second week

discharge from the hospital. They are provided teaching about breastfeeding at home and offered

How BFI Meets the Requirements of Health Promotion
The main focus of the Baby Friendly Initiative strategy is to promote successful breastfeeding and
support the mother through out the process (Pound Unger, 2017). This strategy encourages mothers
to breastfeed for at least up to 6 months (Pound Unger, 2017). This is accomplished by teaching
mothers about the importance of breastfeeding, advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding and
proper breastfeeding techniques (Pound Unger, 2017). The educating process in the BFI starts from

One of them is disagreement regarding the valid use of 10 Step process (Cadwell Turner Maffei,
2004). Prenatal teaching programs have limited number of staff to provide teaching prenatal
teaching (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Immediate Postpartum assessments have become a
priority before breastfeeding (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). This is preventing the BFI focus
of mother and baby bonding and breastfeeding right after birth, because important that the mother
and the baby bonds for the first hour after birth (BCC, 2012). The health care workers have
limited time with each patient, due to this reason conducting assessment and patient teaching is
limited (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Patient s misconceptions about complications of
breastfeeding may discourage them from accessing the BFI program (Cadwell Turner Maffei,
2004). Different cultural practises can dis courage mother from accessing or following the BFI
(Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Patient unknowing about the BFI or other services can prevent
them from accessing the program or from seeking support (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004).
Women who live in rural areas in third world countries, where they have no access to medical
assistance have a lower chance of accessing the BFI program (Penwell, 2010). Women who choose
to free birth or unassisted birth at home have a lower chance of accessing or participating in the
BFI program (India Parenting, 2016).
Evidence of Effectiveness

the world. One of the research shows that 87.3 % to 89% of mothers are breastfeeding and the

Mr Nobody Character Analysis

associates a lot of his films with characters who have mental disabilities or physical disabilities.
The rated R film that contained sexuality/nudity, strong language, and violent images was

but is easy to catch on along the way. The protagonist is named nemo, also known as the lead

every second of his last moments like a zoo animal by these weird, futuristic, and immortal
humans. Mr. Nobody is trying to remember his whole life step by step by the help of a man who

Montesquieu s Spirit Of Laws And Jean Jacques Rousseau s...
What entity dictates life on the most fundamental level? Is it the government or the people who
permit the government to exist? This is the main point of contention between Baron de
Montesquieu s Spirit of Laws and Jean Jacques Rousseau s On the Social Contract. Interestingly,
their interpretation of different forms of government converge on the sovereignty of a democracy,
but that is where most of their common ground lies. While Rousseau shares similarities on the
sovereign authority of a democracy with Montesquieu, he departs by arguing how regardless of
government, sovereignty always rests in the hands of the people. He also disagrees on how the
populace should participate in the democracy and on their representation in government, making his

Baron de Montesquieu sees the people as sovereign exclusively in a democracy and act through
elected bodies or ministers. Since the people have the sole power to enact laws, the rules of
suffrage are vital to a successful democracy. Following closely is the need for a fixed amount of
active citizens in an assembly. As such, the essence of his democracy revolves around the need
for love of the laws and of the country. (Montesquieu Bk. 4 Pt. 5) Likewise, frugality is important
because it allows all of society to share a similar level of enjoyment and advantages that a
democracy brings. When the populace look to frugality, enhanced public services are made
available. Consequently, there is a law of

The Success Of A Company
INTRODUCTION
Defining a successful organisations is a difficult task with a lot of variables that have to be
considered. The outcome of a company s strategies targeting to achieve specific goals cannot
always be translated and be acknowledged as being successful. This paper is focusing on what
success is for a company, the different areas that a company can achieve success, regarding the
goals that are set, and through Coca Cola s sustainability report will try to demonstrate which and
how performance indicators are used to form a successful organisation.
DEFINE SUCCESS
To define or measure success, firstly the organisational purpose must be decided. The purpose of
a company is not always to become more profitable. Profit provides the organisation with the
capability to compensate stakeholder s expectations. As the corporations operates within society it
should be also be concerned with societal issues and become more social responsible. Many argue
that, financial success of an organisation benefits society, by providing new placements, upgrading
the status of the area they operate and paying more taxes accordingly to their profit. As Milton
Friedman argues, the purpose of an organisation is to maximize profit, and through the company s
financial success show social responsibility, as society can also be benefit from it. Therefore
employees should focus their efforts according to the owners interests and not acting in the interest
of someone other like society.

Reconstruction On African American Freedom
Freedom is not a term with a simple definition or interpretation. While the basic understanding of
freedom is for one to have certain rights and liberties as a citizen, the American notion and
application of freedom have certainly changed since its very beginning as a nation. A crucial part of
America s history that challenged the idea of true American freedom for citizens was the
Reconstruction Era. Although the Union troops were pulled out of the South and ended de jure
segregation, the emergence of Jim Crow laws at the end of Reconstruction facilitated de facto
segregation. Instead of completely achieving equal freedom, Reconstruction ultimately hindered
African American s freedom with the emergence of the black codes that resurfaced again... Show

There are major historical narratives pertaining to Reconstruction that can offer insight on what is
true American Freedom: The Dunning School view of the 1920s 1930s reflecting white southern
elites, the Revisionist view from the 1960s, and the Post Revisionist view of the 1970s to present.
The white elites who were upset by the loss of the confederacy and resented Radical Reconstruction
felt betrayed by the of corruption presided over by unscrupulous carpetbaggers, traitorous
scalawags, and ignorant freedmen (Lecture Recon.). The Dunning School view that emerged in the
early twentieth century supported these white supremacists ideas and popularized that black
suffrage had been a political blunder and that the Republican state governments in the South that
rested upon black votes had been corrupt, extravagant, unrepresentative, and oppressive (Lecture
Recon.). Foner argues that liberals started echoing white southerner s complaints that
Reconstruction violated principles of good government by expelling me of property from power,
and that gullible lower class voters throughout the country were being coerced (119). Eventually, the
nation experienced such travesties... as the Tweed Ring of New York City because of the additional
voters (119). Overall, this view of Reconstruction condemned the

The Works of Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist and short story writer who was born in Salem,
Massachusetts July fourth 1804. When Hawthorne was a young man he served as the editor of
the American Magazine of Useful and Entertaining Knowledge. That job introduced him into the
world of writing and at that point he decided what he wanted to do until the day he died. I do not
want to be a doctor and live by men s diseases, nor a minister to live by their sins, nor a lawyer
and live by their quarrels. So, I don t see that there is anything left for me to be but an author.
Hawthorne was found too dense, too gloomy, and to complex. To overcome these problem people
would attempt to view Hawthorne as a riddler and wry joke who always challenged himself and all
authorities. Hawthorne published several diminutive stories in various publications which he
collected in 1873 as Twice Told Tales. The 1900 s American author Nathaniel Hawthorne
s writings
were influenced by his guilt because of his non repentant grandfathers involvement in the Salem
witch trials. Hawthorne boarded with a poet named Thomas Green Fessenden on Hancock Street in
Beacon Hill Boston. After his strategic move to join with this poet he started to get into the flow of
producing good books people wanted to read. When readers started to understand Hawthorne s use
of Dante, Spencer, and the Bible this helped them to better understand Hawthornes imagination.
Hawthorne married Sophia Peabody in 1836

According to Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 6 22, leadership is the process of

However, Robert Bruce XVI, XVII, and Scottish Nobles want to settle the war diplomatically for
personnel benefits and later betray Wallace. This betrayal leads to Wallace s capture where he is
tortured and publically executed. Prior to his execution, Wallace departs the world with one last
word FREEDOM ! This word single word coupled with Wallace s inspiration and passion reunites
the Scottish Nobles, Robert Bruce XVII, and the Scottish clans to take up arms as a united front
against the English to, later, gain their independence in 1314.
Why Braveheart?
Braveheart and the character William Wallace explain how courage, passion, and inspiration can
motivate people to unite against a common threat even when the odds of success are low.
Additionally, the story of William Wallace illustrates how leadership traits can have a long lasting
effect. William Wallace stays true to his beliefs with such dedication that even under the pressure
of torture; he is capable of motivating his fellow Scotsmen to fight for freedom after his death.
This is true leadership! Anyone that can inspire a following after death has reached the highest tier
of leadership. This is the epitome of a leader. Now this essay will transition to the background of a
different type of leader, Ahmad ibn Fadlan from the motion picture, The 13th Warrior.

The NFL and the Steroid Ban of 1987
My research question is Why did the steroid ban of 1987 have no affect on the growing size and
performance of linemen in the NFL? The use of steroids in the NFL began in the 1960 s and
came with a lot of controversy. As time progressed, more rumors and players came out about
linemen using steroids to enhance their size. There have been a few linemen who have come out
about their use of steroids such as Lyle Alzado, Tony Mandarich, and Steve Courson. The
ineffectiveness of the steroidban has resulted in the perpetual use of steroids in the NFL.
The evaluation of the ineffectiveness of the steroid ban provides changes for the NFL to make in
their rule and it provides health consequences for players using the substance. The NFL needs to
make a rule change or make the rules stricter in order for players to stop using the substance.

The Growing Size of NFL Linemen
While it may seem as though the linemen in the NFL are just as big as they were thirty years
ago, they re not, they re bigger. In 1970, only one N.F.L. player weighed as much as 300 pounds,
according to a survey conducted by The Associated Press. That number has expanded from three
300 pounders in 1980 to 94 in 1990, 301 in 2000, 394 in 2009 and 532 as training camps began in
2010. The major change in size have caused the people in the sports society to question why the
players have increased so much in size.

A Brief Note On The World Of Greece And Iceland
Bucket List:
What on My Bucket List Most people live busy all the time by doing something in their lives. So,
what do they live for? Indeed, are we living in a dream? Most people would be answer No.
Therefore, we truly need to live the way we really want to do before we die. Thus, I realize, I
should do that what I want to do in my life. For this reason, I made a bucket list with three
categories: personal, academic, and professional. The first thing on my personal bucket list is to
travel to Europe, but above all, I want to go to Greece and Iceland. One day, I watched a Korean
reality travel program Youth over Flowers, which showed young people backpacking with little
money. Therefore, I thought that was how youth should be. Since then, I have been wanting to go
to Greece and Iceland by myself. If I could go there, I would like to go to Santorini Island in
Greece, which is the most beautiful place I have seen on TV, and it looks peaceful with a blue
ocean. Salome M. Krell and David Farrell describe Santorini as an unforgettable beauty when
they say, I . . . have fallen in love with this spellbinding place (3). For this reason, I would like to
go Santorini, and I would like to drink wine on the terrace overlooking the sea; I will feel relaxed
and free. Then, I would like to visit Iceland. Iceland is one of the best places to view the northern
lights, although it is hard to see aurora because of the clouds and weather. The authors of the article

the Athenian empire as imperial treasurer, and he was elected general at least twice. His
religious activities included service as a priest, and he turned over his house for the worship of

Banning Muslims
Jihad is a term associated with terrorists who believe in war against nonbelievers. However, the
misinterpretation of this concept has created a prejudice toward the Muslim people. A majority of
the American population, like Donald Trump, are fearful of this approach against believers of other
faiths. In result, he proposes the U.S should ban all Muslims from entering the country. Over two
million Muslimfamilies live in the United Statescurrently. Many have been here for years, and came
to seek a better life. Unfortunately, Muslims are getting a bad reputation because of ongoing
terrorism. Furthermore, the U. S. should not take these steps towards disallowing Muslims to enter
the states. Not only would it create a hostile relationship with other Islamic countries, but it would
be considered discrimination against the faith and go against basic human principles.
If we isolate the Muslim population, the U. S will most likely cease intercontinental relations with
foreign Islamic nations. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When muslims enter the country they deserve the same right that is given to other immigrants ;
freedom of religion. Banning muslims from entering the country because of their religious beliefs
is as preposterous as not allowing a new person into a church. The United States is a boiling pot of
ethnicities, nationalities and religions. The U.S should not ban muslims from migrating into the
country, because it will create tension among Islamic countries, separate families and be a threat
against religious freedom. People often fear things they do not understand, it seems that many
Americans are associating muslims with the ideals of terrorist groups simply because they are
unfamiliar to their religion. If the government does not look past their fear of allowing muslims into
the country, it will be alone in their struggle against real

Essay Ancient Corinth Ancient Corinth ?Unlike most other cities in the ancient world, Corinth was a city destined for prosperity and longevity no matter who occupied it or how it was governed.? It is as old, or older, than any other ancient Greek city, with origins that lie only in myths and legends that are more than two thousand years old.? Little is known of who established the city or when it was actually founded.? What we do know is Corinth was a very important city and it became a major player in ancient Greek and Roman history.? ?The main reason for the existence of Corinth is the same reason for its greatness.? The ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean world produced this city out of geographical and commercial necessity.? The southern ... • 3. Stress Is The Body s Way Of Demand Stress is the body s way of responding to any kind of demand. People s bodies react in different ways to stress depending on how the view and handle the demand. Stress can be caused by multiple factors such as friends, family, jobs, schools, and worldview. The way we handle the different stresses of life can either greatly improve our quality of life or harm it. There are two forms of coping with stress and the first is problem focused coping. This form of coping is aimed at managing or correcting the distressing situation (Coon, Psychology: modules for active learning). Then there is emotion focused coping where we try to control the emotions caused by the situation. Both forms of coping can be used in unison with each other. Being able to control your emotions could help you manage the stress in your life. However, it is possible for the two methods to cancel each other out. When making a difficult decision, a person may feel an intense form of emotional distress. In this moment, making an easy decision seems like the best option to end the suffering but the easy decision might not be the best one. The easy way out may cause later harm to a person s physical and mental wellbeing. The harmful effects of stress on the human body is limitless. When under stress muscles in the body tense up and become rigid. This is a defense mechanism used by the body to prevent injury. Frequent stress and muscle tensing can potentially lead to stress related disorders such as ulcers, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Child Abuse On The United States It s difficult to comprehend that an adult, often a parent or caregiver, would intentionally hurt an infant or child. Yet nearly a million children are abused in the United States. Unfortunately that excludes children who s incidents of child abuse are unreported and undetected. Child abuse can be defined differently from state to state, but commonly presents in the form of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, neglect and abandonment. The focus of this review is physical abuse, which is defined as non accidental physical injury, from bruising to fractures to the most serious cases of abuse ending in death (Sink, Hyman, Matheny, Georgopoulos Kleinman, 2010). Non accidental trauma (NAT) is a leading cause of childhood traumatic injury and death in the United States. It is estimated that 1,400 children died from maltreatment in the United States in 2002, and abusive head trauma (AHT) accounted for 80% of these deaths (Paul Adamo, 2014). AHT, also known as shaken baby syndrome or inflicted traumatic brain injury can be caused by direct blows to the head, dropping or throwing a child, or shaking a child. Though the incident may only last for a few seconds, the effects can last a lifetime. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the United States, abusive head trauma (AHT) is most common in children under age 5, with children under one year of age at most risk. Nearly all victims of AHT suffer serious, long term health consequences such as vision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Criticism Of Literature And Literature Literature has no set definition, mainly because throughout history writers, as well as literary historians have failed to construct an agreeable definition (Bressler 12). When one thinks of literature, he or she should think of literary criticism different critical perspectives. Literary criticism requires readers to analyze literary texts with knowledge of theories. Thus, the next time one reads a text, he or she should first identify the theory that he or she plans to use. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From a New Critic perspective, when analyzing a poem, it is pivotal for readers to pay close attention to the poem s structure and form, especially since it can help him or her understand the poem s overall meaning. In life, human beings will encounter many challenging obstacles throughout his or her long and stressful journey here on earth, especially since success is the ultimate goal that he or she wishes to achieve. In the first quatrain of Angelou s poem, a simile is depicted: You may trod me in the very dirt / But still, like dust, I ll rise (3 4). Here, it is evident that Angelou wants readers to realize that life will step on he or she as if him or her is a pile of dirt; however, if he or she is determined to overcome his or her challenges, he or she will rise just like dust. The simile depicted in quatrain one, forces readers, from a New Critic viewpoint, to realize that the essential meaning of Angelou s poem lies within each line of the poem objective meaning. Furthermore, in life, human beings will encounter different individuals exposure to diversity. Human beings learn from one another; however, certain people tend to encounter human beings who are miserable with his or her life. However, in Melting Pot the conflict is external. They both are based around diverse things. They each take place between different groups of people. In Seventh Grade the narrator is a boywith internal conflicts who has a crush on a girl; while in Melting Pot the main conflict is external among other people because they all argue about things that don t matter. When they are in French, Victor lies by saying he knows how to speak French; therefore, he is quickly quizzed by the teacher with a simple conversation. Her stability with sexuality and sex in general is also evident in her body of work. In the song Love Game , she has provocative lines such as I wanna take a ride on your disco stick among other suggestive innuendos (Carman). In terms of her acting career, her recent involvement with the television series American Horror Story: Hotel has brought the media flocking. Throughout the season, Lady Gaga was shown in multiple sexually explicit scenes with both male and female counterparts. With her boldness on the topic, Stefani works to send messages to her fans that sex is an important subject to discuss. • 14. John Cleland s Memoirs Of A Woman Of Pleasure Essay In general, the prostitutes in John Cleland s Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (1748), Fanny Hill included, have few individual characteristics: different eye colors, degrees of plumpness, and beauty traits such as Emily s even white teeth (96) hardly vary the novel s depiction of what may be described as the stereotypic prostitute. The repeated portraits of fair skinned Englishwomen who are incapable of pregnancy, immune to disease, and sexually responsive far beyond the call of . . . professional duty become the eighteenth‑century version of the centerfold (Markley 348), verbally airbrushing both the prostitutes looks and the harsh realities of their working conditions in order to stimulate a male readership that has a libidinal investment in the novel s sexual fantasy. The novel s prostitutes, then (with the notable exception of Phoebe), possess a remarkable sameness, as Fanny herself notes about the employees of Mrs. Cole s brothel, in terms of sex, age, profession, and views (93). On the other hand, the men in Cleland s novel present the reader with a range of physical traits, class positions, and identities; I argue that the figure of the standardized prostitute serves to mediate between these men in order to calibrate them according to their penis size and sexual performance. Although Cleland principally aimed at sexually arousing his reader, and the novel s purpose does not seem, in any marked way, to have been political (Trumbach Erotic ... • 15. Reflection Paper On Volleyball Player This Club season, I would like to improve my knowledge of the sport, understand how to be a supportive teammate, and develop into a better and more experienced volleyball player. The position I enjoy the most is the outside hitter. I am fond of this position because I am not only a skilled and talented hitter, but I am also useful in backrow. Therefore, an outside hitter is my desired position because I believe this is where I would be the most useful to the team. I would absolutely consider playing another position because I desire to support my team in anyway the coaches see fit. A position I am not willing to play is right side hitter because in a previous club season, I was placed in that position and I did not get much playing time and I felt as though I was not benefitting my team in any way. Also, I enjoy passing in the backrow and the position of right side hitter is only a front row position. My grade point average is a 98.75. My grades currently range from a 97 100%. School is a very big aspect of my life and my goal is to continue to move forward in my studies. On average, I study anywhere from one hour to three hours a night causing me to have plenty of free time that could be used more productively. I am motivated by goals and I feel it is very important to set goals for yourself in every aspect of your life. I am also motivated by rewards and my personality causes me to want to fulfill all of the potential possible for me. My motivation increases when I am being supported by the people around me because then I will not want to let them down. My parents also motivate me to do my best because they have set a very high expectation for me, causing me to work for what I want. Yelling and fear of failure both decrease my motivation. When I am in an environment that I feel comfortable in, my motivation will increase, however, if I am in a space where I feel judged, I tend to not be motivated. I have led by example when I tell the truth instead of taking the easy way out, when I take credit for my actions and not sabotage my teammates. In 1994, an 18 year old kid from Miami named Alex Rodriguez broke into spring camp with the Seattle Mariners in an attempt to make the team. After almost immediately stepping into a Major League baseball field he became a household name. Within two years, he was an All Star. Within five, a regular 40 homer player. By the turn of the century, many were already putting him into the Hall of Fame discussion. On August 12, 2016, Rodriguez played what will be his final game as a New York Yankee after an incredible 12 years in New York. Considering the 41 year old s lack of playing time and declining production after a resurgent effort in 2015, this may very well be the end of the A Rod era entirely. And for A Rod, he was prepared to leave the game he fell in love with as a child. • 28. Servant Leadership Characteristics Of A Servant Leader In the broadest sense, a servant leader is one who leads others with the mindset of a servant. The primary motivation of a servant leader is to provide encouragement and facilitation in others by treating them as an ends in themselves rather than as a means to an ends. A servant leader values the people he or she leads by sharing power and enabling others to develop and flourish (Waterman, 2011). Waterman s (2011) study found the following: The expression of servant leadership characteristics in service to others is putting other people first. Every leader should have a servant s heart, show care and concern for others and be mentor minded, that is, have the desire and concern to build and develop others, even at his or her own expense. (p. 25) While there are many characteristics that are central to the development of a servant leader, the three that stand out are respectfulness, selflessness, and commitment. Respectfulness is defined as treating others as important people because they are important (Hunter, 1998, p. 112). Every person has value and deserves respect. The servant leader can set the level of respect within the organization. Showing the same amount of respect to an assistant as you would an executive provides motivation and encouragement, therefore yielding a higher level of performance (Hunter, 1998). Selflessness is defined as meeting the needs of others even before your own (Hunter, 1998, p. 116). Being selfless is necessary to serve others and lead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reading and Misreading Ian McEwan s Atonement Martin Jacobi argues the role of misreading in Ian McEwan s Atonement and the consequences of misreading and reading with preconception. Misreading is the incorrect or misinterpretation of a reading. In McEwan s Atonement misreading is a key concept that allows Ian McEwanto persuade readers into believing situations and conclusions that are not confirmed. Jacobi s main argument examples focuses on the misreading and interpretation of two main characters deaths, Robbie and Cecilia. The misreading in Atonement causes readers to believe they are dead even though it is not confirmed. Jacobi further argues that along with misreading reading with preconceptions also leads to misinterpretation, that when we read we have preconceptions about the novelwhich leads to assumptions about what will occur. (Jacobi 71) While Jacobi argues the negative of having preconceptions about a novel, having knowledge and information about a novel and the author can be beneficial when trying to understand the novel and the why in the novel. Knowing information about when the novel is set, what was happening during this time can be useful for understanding as well as useful for avoiding misreadings. Shane McCutcheon is a businessman from Alabama who donated thousands of dollars to various Republican committees and candidates. The aggregate limit capped the amount of money an individual could donate to candidates and committees per two year election cycle at 123,000. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argued that the precedent of the 1976 Buckley v. Valeo court case, which upheld aggregate limits, did not apply in this situation because the court at the time did not consider McCutcheon s legal argument and the situation in which aggregate limits functioned back then is 1976. Then, he established that because an aggregate limit restricted how many candidates and committees an individual to support, it limited free speech and thus was only justified if it was necessary to prevent political corruption. He confined political corruption to bribery, arguing that if corruption was understood as money resulting in more influence to or ingratiation from an officeholder, then the government would have a say in who could govern, citing the precedent of Arizona Free Enterprise Club s Freedom Club PAC v. Bennet. He also added that ingratiation and influence create more responsive candidates and are therefore good for democracy. Roberts argued that aggregate limits were not necessary to preventing bribery because any scenario where circumvention could happen would be either illegal under earmarking rules or unlikely because many state parites would have to participate in the scheme. There were also alternatives to preventing circumvention, including restrictions on transfers among party committees and candidates, the tightening of earmarking rules, and the implementation of broad disclosure ... Prior to the civil rights act Blacks were only allowed to work in the company s labor department, which happened to harbor its lowest paying positions as well. After the implementation of IQ testing and the requirement of holding a high school diploma it was found that Blacks were being selected at a lower rate for higher positions than their white counterparts. Considered the first case of its type Griggs v. Duke Power Co. was taken before the Supreme Court of the United States where it was found that the requirements were not relevant to an employee s ability to perform a job. Therefore it was ruled that Duke Power Co. promotion practices were discriminating against its black employees. The Supreme Court found that in adding a requirement for promotion within a company the requirements need to be reasonably related to the job for which the test is required thus bringing into question test validity. Coming to Greensboro I knew there were parts of the city that were prone to violence, being new to the city I did not know where those areas were just yet. We decided earlier in the week that we were going to go out that Saturday, Fredrek started looking on Snapchat for addresses or any flyers for parties that we could go to. • 41. Montesquieu s Spirit Of Laws And Jean Jacques Rousseau s... What entity dictates life on the most fundamental level? Is it the government or the people who permit the government to exist? This is the main point of contention between Baron de Montesquieu s Spirit of Laws and Jean Jacques Rousseau s On the Social Contract. Interestingly, their interpretation of different forms of government converge on the sovereignty of a democracy, but that is where most of their common ground lies. While Rousseau shares similarities on the sovereign authority of a democracy with Montesquieu, he departs by arguing how regardless of government, sovereignty always rests in the hands of the people. He also disagrees on how the populace should participate in the democracy and on their representation in government, making his principles more relevant today. Baron de Montesquieu sees the people as sovereign exclusively in a democracy and act through elected bodies or ministers. Since the people have the sole power to enact laws, the rules of suffrage are vital to a successful democracy. Following closely is the need for a fixed amount of active citizens in an assembly. As such, the essence of his democracy revolves around the need for love of the laws and of the country. (Montesquieu Bk. 4 Pt. 5) Likewise, frugality is important because it allows all of society to share a similar level of enjoyment and advantages that a democracy brings. When the populace look to frugality, enhanced public services are made available. Consequently, there is a law of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the basic understanding of freedom is for one to have certain rights and liberties as a citizen, the American notion and application of freedom have certainly changed since its very beginning as a nation. A crucial part of America s history that challenged the idea of true American freedom for citizens was the Reconstruction Era. Although the Union troops were pulled out of the South and ended de jure segregation, the emergence of Jim Crow laws at the end of Reconstruction facilitated de facto segregation. The white elites who were upset by the loss of the confederacy and resented Radical Reconstruction felt betrayed by the of corruption presided over by unscrupulous carpetbaggers, traitorous scalawags, and ignorant freedmen (Lecture Recon.). The Dunning School view that emerged in the early twentieth century supported these white supremacists ideas and popularized that black suffrage had been a political blunder and that the Republican state governments in the South that rested upon black votes had been corrupt, extravagant, unrepresentative, and oppressive (Lecture Recon.). Foner argues that liberals started echoing white southerner s complaints that Reconstruction violated principles of good government by expelling me of property from power, and that gullible lower class voters throughout the country were being coerced (119).
