Research Paper On Neverland
Neverland is the land of childhood, immortality, and escapism. Neverland is the sanctuary for
who we are. The place we can escape to in our own minds. Neverland is that place that holds all
our childhood memories and fantasies. Peter Pan, the gatekeeper, keeping all evil from entering the
home of Neverland. Lost Boys home of No Adults Allowed. Once you enter Neverland, you can
never leave.
It was Mitch s last year of school. He was a senior in highschool. The bell rang at the end of the
last day of school and he walked out to his car with his two best friends Jake and Riley. As he
slammed the door to his car his tinkerbell car ornament swung back and forth. We re going into
college now Mitch, Get this childish stuff out of here man Jake says as he tosses the tinkerbell to
the back of the car, Riley catching it. Oh c mon it s cute she says examining it. Mitch starts up the
car and they pull out of the parking lot, taking one last look at the school they had so many
memories at.
The sun didn t rise in Neverland, instead it was very cloudy and dark out. Everyone in Neverland
looked around panicked. Peter Pan met with Tinkerbell leaving the house walking to town square.

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
The purpose of Covey s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is to better mold a teen s mind
frame. Most teen s lives are crazy and have no order. These seven habits help teens get control over
their lives. The first part is the private victory, followed by the public victory, and finally the
renewal. If all of these habits are applied, they will help all teens to be more successful and get
more out of life. Habit 1 is all about being proactive, and taking charge of yourself. You can t keep
blaming everything else but yourself. You are in control of your attitude towards everything that
happens. In life s situations you have the choice of either being proactive or reactive. Being
reactive is allowing other people and things control you. Instead of reacting to small stuff that have
little or no control, proactive people focus on things they can control. They separate their
experiences from the circumstances. You are the force of positive actions, and changing actions
that aren t helpful is the best way to take responsibility of your life. In addition, Habit 2 is about
beginning with the end in mind. This is where you create your own personal mission statement.
Mission statements help you focus, clarify what is important, and are a guide for decision making.
It can be about yourself, family, or about organization. Your future is dependent on control,
guidance, and rules. A solid foundation of your own principles will help you be a leader.
Furthermore, Habit 3 is about

1984 Comparison Essay
George Orwell s 1984 is a great allegory about life under communist rule. Throughout the book
there are many concepts that directly relate to the rule of Josef Stalin in the U.S.S.R. The first
evidence can be seen in the posters of Big Brother that are posted everywhere around London.
These posters are described as having the face of a man of about forty five, with a heavy black
mustache and ruggedly handsome features . (1) Similarly, most if not all of the Stalin era
propaganda posters featured an image of Stalin which resembles the description of Big Brother. The
resemblance of Big Brother to Stalin is not the only reference to communism in 1984. Another
connection that could be made between communism and Oceanic society is economic.... Show more

there is also the control of the media. Similar to how the Party controlled every medium in
Oceania; Stalin s communist party controlled every medium in the U.S.S.R. during its reign and
any sort of political unorthodoxy was forbidden.(lib) In both instances nothing that cast either
Big Brother or Stalin in a negative light was allowed. Consequently, both Stalin and Big Brother
developed a cult of personality . This meant that since everything about them was portrayed in a
positive light they were idolized by the people in their nation. This is evidenced in 1984 by the
passage about how Big Brother is to be seen in Goldstein s book, Big Brother is infallible and all
powerful. Every success, every achievement, every victory, every scientific discovery, all
knowledge, all wisdom, all happiness, all virtue, are held to issue directly from his leadership
and inspiration. (121) This is why the term Big Brother was used in 1984 he was the savior of the
people, their protector. A real life parallel to this is that Stalin was commonly referred to as Uncle
Joe. The effect of the media control turned them both into objects of adulation that could do no

New Horizons And Its Mission
New Horizons and Its Mission
The New Horizons space probe is an interesting piece of technology. We ve sent this probe into the
depths of space, farther than any other probe has traveled. This probe survived the asteroid belt, is
surviving the Kuiper belt, and it was able to complete it s mission. We know more about Pluto now
than we ever have. New Horizons will continue to explore space and send us discoveries that it has
made.
NASA uses a variety of rockets for every launch. The rocket New Horizons uses is the Atlas V
551. This rocket is part of the Atlas V400/500 family, which is operated by the United Launch
Alliance. These rockets are very reliable, and as such, have been in use since 2002. There was only
one failed launch with these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Atlas V 551 also has 5 Aerojet Solid Rocket Boosters to add extra thrust power to the launch.
The boosters burn for 94 seconds and they are all rigged to go off in sequence; with 1 and 2 set to
go first and 3, 4, and 5 to follow after a second and a half. Each of the boosters are 20 meters in
height, 1.58 meters in diameter, and 5,740 kilograms of inert mass (Spaceflight).
An Interstage Adapter is used to connect the parts of the rocket with different diameters. There are
two types; the Cylindrical Interstage Adapter (0.32 meters in height, 3.83 meters in diameter, and
285 kilograms) and the C ISA Adapter (3.81 meters in height, 3.83 meters in diameter, and 2,212
kilograms) (Spaceflight).
The Centaur Upper Stage is 12.68 meters in length, 3.05 meters in diameter and has an inert mass
of 2,243 kilograms. This part has a single engine and also uses liquid oxygen and kerosene to
propell the probe (Spaceflight).
Finally, at the top of thr rocket is the Payload Fairing. This part keeps the spacecraft safe against the
harsh enviroments that the whole rocket experiences when it begins to leave the atmosphere. There
are three different PLF lengths; the shortest one is 20.7 meters long, the medium one is 23.4 meters
long, and the largest one is 26.4 meters long (Spaceflight).
The spacecraft itself is about the size and mass of a piano. Currently, it s travelling at a breakneck
speed of 14 kilometers per second (Munroe). These incredibly

Joe And Mary
After reading the above case study, there are four distinct issues that contribute to the overall case.
First, there is an issue with an anonymous individual in the company, essentially whistleblowing
internally to inform John, the chief executive officer (CEO) of performance issues with a new
product. Therefore, this is an issue, since the anonymous employee chose to bypass the appreciate
communication channels being Joe and Mary, the new district manager and division manager,
respectively to communicate the matter higher up on the corporate chain. Secondly, there is the
issue with Mary misleading John about the performance of a new product thus far in the product s
life cycle. Thirdly, in light of the anonymous employee informing the CEO, the is issue lies with
Mary asking Joe to further mislead John about the product s performance, while providing
inaccurate documentation as proof to instill confidence in John that the product is performing well.
Lastly, overall situation presents a conflict of interest for Joe, as Mary is extorting him by
threatening his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

informing John of the products concerns, however, they did so using the incorrect method.
According to De Geroge, whistleblowing should only occur once the three situations are apparent:
the product causes harm, the anonymous employee went through the appropriate channels by
informing Joe about the product concerns first, and lastly, the individual exhausts all methods of
communication within the company location (Adjunct Professor, n.d.). However, the anonymous
employee did not communicate this issue with Joe

Post Game Analysis Paper
The overall analytic framing of this game is an inductive, phenomenological process. The approach
will be moderately structured inside the game cells, and the post game analytic methodology will
follow a widely used process referred to as triangulation which is routed in grounded theory,
descriptive statistics, and content analysis. The post event analytic triangulation process follows
current thinking in the field of social research, which suggests that analytic tools maximize the
credibility of the work in behaviorally based activities. This methodology takes advantage of
multiple data collection techniques and allows the researchers to derive the same or very similar
conclusions using different datasets or methods.
Consistent with this process, the data streams collected during the game will incorporate a variety
of research procedures into post game analysis. A brief description of each analytic process follows.

Individualism in The Fountainhead Essay
Individualism in The Fountainhead
Individualism, the doctrine of free thought and action of the individual, forms the basis of Ayn
Rand s novel The Fountainhead. The major theme of her fiction is the primacy of the individual,
the unique and precious individual life. That which sustains and enriches life is good, that which
negates and impoverishes the individual s pursuit of happiness is evil.
The Fountainhead is Rand s fullest explication of the primacy of the individual. As she worked out
her interpretation of the inalienable rights: the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness;
and what these entailed, she saw three areas of conflict where these rights were held in balance.

which kept it s integrity.
Henry Cameron, Roark s mentor both in work and principles had been very successful, but had
gradually faded away into oblivion. He did not give in to others demands on him and worshipped
and believed in the heroic in man....... he wished to build as he wished, and for that reason only. For
him Gail Wynand represented everything that s wrong with the world.
Peter Keating, a successful young architect, Roark s senior, possesses a modicum of talent but
guides his life by pursuing what other people want of him. Though openly successful he is
actually a bundle of anxieties. This he tries to obscure by amassing wealth and following proper
public opinions. In all his major works, it was Roark who provided him with ideas.
When he achieves everything he should want, he doesn t understand the hollowness of it all. He
can never be satisfied because he has never gone after what he wants. He is a parasite, a second
hander as Roark calls him; incapable of self direction.
Ellsworth Monkton Toohey again is a second hander but of a worse kind than Peter Keating. He

Differences Between Good And Evil In The Demon King
As Eric Burdon stated, inside each of us, there is a seed of both good and evil. Eric was trying to
explain how individuals constantly debate which side will win, and how individuals struggle with
both sides. Even though one may have a crime backround, he or she could have understandable
reasons for the act committed. In the book The DemonKing by Cinda Williams Chima, the
differences between the clan people and the wizards clash. Han Cuffs Alister had a history as a
thief, and was part of a gangcalled the Raggers. The Cuffs in his name is meant for the
permenantly attached silver bracelets he wears on his wrists. Han lives among the clan, and is an
indigent individual. Han had stolen money and food for his family, but he also had a... Show more

Micah Bayar had been punished by his father because of using the amulet when he was not
properly trained or of the wizardry age. While Raisa, the princess, had been in the mountains
waiting for Micah with her mother, she saw the fire coming. This fire caused fear among the
Queen s Guard, and Captain Byrne, the royal captain of the soldiers. It also spread fear amongst
the rest of the royal individuals. Since that had set everybody off, people started questioning the
decisions of the Queen, specifically outsiders, and clan people. Another example, when Han had
escaped from the Southies, the day after, six Southies were found dead on the ground, and it didn
t look like the work of a knife. People threw accusations at the Raggers, Han included, even though
he had left the gang. To encourage demonstratation, Han had been walking in the night to
Southbridge Temple. Coated figures approached him. Rumors of these creatures had said they
were monsters, demons. They pressed Han into revealing Shiv s hideout, and that he would be
rewarded. Han was unharmed by these demons, as his cuffs protected him, with their magical
wonders, but the monsters had recognized him because of the cuffs. Now demons were after Shiv,
and Shiv was trying to have Han protect him, but Han didn t want to go deeper into the sea of
trouble and destruction. For this reason, the amulet truly made its mark with

The Tragic Hero and the Tragic Story in William...
The Tragic Hero and the Tragic Story in William Shakespeare s Writing Shakespeare s tragedies
are, for the most part, stories of one person, the hero, or at most two, to include the heroine. Only
the Love Tragedies (Romeo and Juliet; Antony and Cleopatra)are exceptions to this pattern. In these
plays, the heroine is as much at the center of action as the hero. The rest of the tragedies, including
Macbeth, have single stars, so the tragic story is concerned primarily with oneperson.

Such exceptional suffering and calamity, then, affecting the hero, and generally extending far
beyond him, so as to make the whole scene a scene of woe, are essential ingredients in tragedy, and
the chief sources of the tragic emotions, and especially of pity.
ONLY GREAT MEN QUALIFY AS TRAGIC HEROES
* Peasants (merely because they re human beings) do not inspirepity and fear as great men do
* A Shakespearean tragedy, then, may be called a story of exceptional calamity leading to the death
of a man of high estate!
The pangs of despised love and the anguish of remorse, we say, are the same in a peasant and a
prince. But not to insist that they cannot be so when the prince is really a prince, when the story
of a prince, or the general, has a greatness and dignity of its own is a mistake. His fate affects the
welfare of a whole nation or empire; and when he falls suddenly from the height of earthly
greatness to the dust, his fall produces a sense of contrast, of the powerlessness of man, and the
omnipotence perhaps the caprice of Fate or Fortune, which no tale of private life could possibly
rival. Such feelings are constantly invoked by Shakespeare s tragedies again, in varying degrees.
To this point, then, we can extend the definition of

A Quick Look at Thomas Alva Edison
Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and
entrepreneur. He developed numerous devices that substantially influenced life around the
world, including the phonograph, the motion photo cam, and a long lasting, practical electric
light bulb. More considerable than the number of Edison s patents, are the impacts of his
developments, due to the fact that Edison not just designed things, his innovations established
major new markets world wide, especially, electrical light and power utilities, sound recording
and movement pictures. Edison s inventions contributed to mass communication and, in certain,
telecoms. His sophisticated work in these fields was an outgrowth of his very early occupation
as a telegraph operator. His very first power station was on Pearl Street in Manhattan, New York.

Robin Hood Cultural Influences
The story of Robin Hood, the famous archer and advocate for the poor, has been adapted into
hundreds of books, films, and television series. However, Robin Hood was not always depicted as
a beloved hero, stealing from the rich and redistributing to the poor. In fact, many early
representations of Robin Hood characterize him as a morally ambiguous, primarily self interested
yeoman. Regardless of the highly varying interpretations of the character, Robin Hoods adventures
seem to resonate with audiences through the ages and the narrative has no doubt had a profound
impact on modern day media and culture. Yet, despite this tremendous cultural influence, the roots
of the legend of Robin Hood remain largely unknown. There are three predominant... Show more

This has led to a multitude of suggested identities for Robin Hood. One primary candidate for the
real Robin Hood was Robert Hobbehod, a fugitive of the early 13th century. Sir J.C. Holt, an
English medieval historian, supports this theory as the most likely origin of Robin Hood, pointing
to similarities between Hobbehod and the Robin Hood described in one of his earliest depictions,
A Gest of Robyn Hode:
He was an outlaw. He lived at a time to which several incidental features of the Gest point and in
which the main topics of the Gest were major problems for the lesser landowning class. Within
four years of the first reference to Hobbe and in areas which included the very county from
which he is known to have come, there was an active outburst of Robin Hood like activities led by
men of this class. If we are to point at all to a historical Robin, Hobbehod s claims are at present

Thermophysical Properties Of Nanofluids
Heat transfer fluids (HTFs) has diversified applications such as chemical processing, concentrated
solar power, HVAC system, pharmaceutical processing, plastics processing, system maintenance,
and geothermal plant, etc. Enhancing thermophysical properties of HTFs by dispersing
nanoparticles on the base fluid which is called nanofluids was first investigated by Choi [1], and
nanofluids already have shown heat transferenhancement [2]. The concept of nanofluids can be
applied for other HTFs. Ionic liquids (ILs) based nanofluids where the base fluids are ionic liquids
is potential candidate for next generation HTFs and storage medium [3].

Paul et al. [10 11] experimentally investigated the forced and natural convection heat transfer
behavior of nanoparticle enhanced ionic liquids (NEILs). They stated that forced convection heat

The enhancement of heat transfer coefficient under forced convection of water based nanofluids
was reported by other researchers, where experiments were carried out for Al2O3 water nanofluids

The Nike of Samothrace stands at eight feet and is made of Parian marble. She is assembled
from several pieces of the stone and it is believed that she was painted, however there are no
traces of paint on her. She is a very powerful, sensual, and energetic figure and her impact on her
viewers is the result of the sculptors combination of naturalism and ability to create a sense of
drama from her presence. She is presenting herself with her right leg forward, her wings uplifted

The ship is carved from a blue grey type of Rhodian marble and stands 10 6ВЅ tall. When found,
the ship was in several pieces which have been plastered together to recreate the whole sculpture

along with the goddess Nike were most likely at one point painted, however the paint traces are
unintelligible. The form of the ship includes heavy shapes with very hard lines that also have a
very sensual feel to them. The ship itself is very realistically represented with its shape and its
apex, along with its many attachments including an oar box, doubled rows of oar slots, and a
battering ram that extends outward and upward off the front of the prow. Using the warship as the
base of the Nike aids in portraying her sense of motion. The naturalism and the drama of The Nike
of Samothrace and her warship are intensified further by the physical setting of the pair. The ship
was originally placed on top of 6 tiles of rippled marble which most likely represented seascape
and movement. Evidence implies that the sculpture as a whole may have been used as a part of a
fountain which would also enhance the realistic effect of movement, presence, and drama

Analysis of The Titanic, by James Cameron Essay
Within the context of film industry, the film Titanic by James Cameron belongs to epic romance
/ disaster genre. The film, released in 1997, was a global box office hit because the director
provided equal importance to history, fiction and romance. To be specific, one can see that the film
s plot is based upon the history of RMS Titanic. On the other side, the main characters including the
protagonist and the heroine (Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater/Dawson) are fictional
characters. Besides, the element of romance between the main characters (Jack and Rose) is the film
s main attraction. Thesis statement: The critical analysis of the film Titanic proves that the

Within this context, the director made use of flashback technique to unearth the romantic story of
the lovers in the film. To be specific, the plot moves from present condition (say, 1996) to past
(say, 1912) and to present (1996). In the opening scene, the director portrays the effort of Brock
Lovett (say, a treasure hunter) to unearth the secret behind a necklace sunk with RMS Titanicin
1912. Gradually, the director portrays the love affair between Rose and Jack. In the end, Rose
drops the necklace into the Ocean and returns. The film ends with a fictional reunion between
the lovers. B. Acting The film s casting is related to historical and fictional characters. For
instance, some of real travelers in the RMS Titanic are portrayed in the film. This is helpful for
the viewers to identify the historical element of the film. On the other side, the protagonist and the
heroine are fictional characters. For instance, Jack and Rose, (the protagonist and his lady love)
are fictional characters who inculcated the element of romance in the film. One can see that the
director s decision to caste Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson (say, the protagonist) is one of the
elements behind the commercial success of the film. Besides, DiCaprio s youthful exuberance suits
his character in the film. On the other side, Kate Winslet s character as Rose DeWitt Bukater is apt

The Benefits Of Metropolitan Growth
A metropolitan refers to an area that comprises of a densely populated urban area and sparsely
populated surrounding regions that share infrastructures, housing, and industries. The growth of
metropolitan areas is essential for the nation and its citizens because they are the key political and
economic regions. Metropolitan covers one or more urban areas, towns, satellite cities, and rural
regions that are socially and economically joined to the urban areas. Various studies that had been
conducted regarding the development of metropolitan areas, particularly in the United States, have
found out that various factors have played a crucial role in fostering these developments. Some of
these factors include; crime, race, immigration, and design assimilation. It is, therefore, significant
to understand the benefits of metropolitan growth, who reaps them, the cost of metropolitan growth,
and who is responsible for paying these costs.
Benefits of Metropolitan Growth One of the benefits of metropolitan growth is that it brings unity
in the society. For instance, in the United States, it created unity between the American citizens and
the immigrants. Nicolaides and James assert that design assimilation, thus, was a facet of the
production of affluent suburban space, in which white and ethnic Asian suburbanites played
complicit roles (335). Asians accepting the prevailing designs shows that they were embracing the
American style. Connolly also postulates that the development of

College Essay About Success
When talking about success most often people think of actors, millionaires, etc. Coming from a
small town, a not so wealthy family, and being a first generation college graduate, that s not what
success means to me. To me success could be as simple as getting an A+ on an assignment. Now I
am going to be talking about success strategy s that I think are important, and that everyone could
benefit from. First I will talk about self motivation and the benefits it has. Second I will talk about
stressmanagement and what you can do to relieve stress. Third I will talk about self
responsibility and what it means. Lastly I will talk about communicating in the classroom. The
first success strategy that I find to be the most important is self motivation (Downing, 2004). It
took me a long time to understand, and gain the courage to have self motivation. Sometimes it s
really hard to have self motivation because of family, friends, and life in general. For example,
when I graduated high school, I moved to Presque Isle to go to school for nursing. Three weeks
into my first semester I got engaged, and moved back home. At that point I was a college dropout,
and didn t think I could go back to college. Why would anyone wanta student who went to class for
three weeks then dropped out? Two years later, a lot of hard work, and a lot of sleepless nights, I
graduated with a Medical Assisting degree, and now I m going back to school for Nursing.

How does Iran continue to resist US sanctions?
This paper will seek to identify three key aspects of US sanctions imposed on Iran. First the paper
will briefly introduce the reasons as to why US and Iran relations have worsened since the 1979
Islamic Revolution. Secondly, this paper shall outline some of the key sanctions imposed on Iran
which have influenced Irans s behaviour. After sanctions are reviewed, the paper will then
summarise the impact of sanctions on Iran. Last but not the least and most importantly, the paper
will elaborate how Iran is resisting stringent US sanctions. This paper will argue that despite

This coup was a crucial turning point in US Iran relations. Sixty years on, the coup continues to
loom large in Iran s national psyche and remains a thorn in the country s relations with the West.
(Bezhan, 2013)
Iran s nuclear programme has in recent years worsened US Iran relations. The United States
accuses Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons (Bahgat , 2009). Other reasons for mistrust
include USA s support for Iraq during the Iran Iraq War in the 1980 s. Specifically, Iran continues
to resent the US supplying Iraq with the chemical weapons it used during the war. Adding fuel to
the fire, in 1988, US guided missile Cruiser the USS Vincennes on station in the Persian Gulf
mistakenly shot down Iranian Airlines flight 655 killing 290. (Milinski, n.d.)
In recent times a critical point of conflict is the US sanctions imposed on Iran. The key recent
financial sanctions in place against Iran include: the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability,
and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA); the USA PATRIOT Act money laundering designation of
2011; the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA); the Iran Threat Reduction and

The Partition Of India And India
1. The Partition of India is the separation of India that occurred in 1947. This all began as
anticolonial elites in the Indian National Congress Party began to negotiate about a peaceful
transfer of power from the British. WWII caused a crisis in relations between the British, the
Muslim League, and Indian National Conference (Hindu dominated). Ghandi was the leading
figure of the INC. He advocated for a unified Hindu and Muslim Indian, but other officials
however disagreed about what kind of independent state India should have. The Hindus were the
majority, and the Muslims were the minority. There was much debate about which culture would
define the new nation. Up until this point it was the Hindu culture that defined Indian culture. In
1946 riots broke out between the Hindus and Muslims, and the leader of the Muslim League
demanded that British India be partitioned into separate Muslim and Hindu states. So in order to
avoid a civil war, colonial rulers decided to divide the subcontinent in two parts: India and
Pakistan. On August 14th, 1947 Pakistan gained Independence from Britain and one day later
India did as well. Unfortunately after this newfound independence violence broke out. It is
estimated that 1 million Hindus and Muslims killed one another. As a result of the violence, 12
million Hindus and Muslims left their homes to relocate in the new countries where they would be
majority. On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was assassinated for his support of a

Small Group Reflection
In the summer of 2013, I participated in the Calvin College Entrada Scholar program, a four week
intensive program for racial ethnic minority high school students to experience college learning and

program, students were not allowed to have their computers, games, nor be on their phones.
Another way that the program encouraged community was with small group devotion with students
floormates and designated floor RA.
I remember one week, the theme within the small groups was sharing our narratives. My small
group consisted of a total of nine female students and our RA. Our discussion lasted about 2 hours
that night mainly because our RA established a safe and open environment, she was someone we

Connotation In The Deaf Community
As history progresses certain terms that hearing people use for the Deaf community have been
changed due to the negative connotation associated with the definitions. Due to the negative
impacts that some terms have there is a need to avoid them to respect the individuals that are in
the Deaf community. The three terms that should be avoided are hearing impaired , Deaf mute ,
and Hearing handicap The term hearing impaired has a negative view towards the Deaf
community and should be avoided. In the past this was an acceptable term to use because it was
thought to be politically correct, but in present time this is not the case. The term impaired
focuses solely on what a Deaf individual is unable to do and implies that the impairment of not
being able to hear needs to be fixed. It also implies that being anything but hearing is not
acceptable and that Deaf individuals are at a societal disadvantage. Deaf individuals do not believe
that they are at a disadvantage nor do they believe that their deafnessis an impairment. Therefore,
this term should not be used all together due to the negative connotation on the Deaf community
and Deaf individuals. Deaf Mute is an offensive term that should be avoided labeling someone that
is Deaf. The term Deaf Mute was used heavily in the 18th 19th century. The term Deaf Mute was
originally not intended to be disrespectful, but the belief was that deafness caused muteness. This
label was associated with Deaf individuals because it

Peter Elbow s The Doubting Game And Believing Game
In Peter Elbow s essay The Doubting Game and Believing Game he discusses the two types of
games that an individual can use to look for the truth in a situation. The Doubting game, is when
an individual believes everything is false, and prove each assertion wrong, and the Believing
game, is the process where an individual believes that all assertions are correct, and go over each
one separately. With both games, there are certain rules that must be followed.
Taking a look at the doubting game, Elbow writes that in order to doubt well, it helps if you make a
special effort to extricate yourself from the assertions.. (Lines 12 and 13). Additionally, placing the

How The Search For Meaning And The Futility Of Labor
Alexander Martinie
Mr. Laverde
AP Capstone Seminar
Period One
Third Rough Draft
How the search for meaning in the workplace affects productivity within the workplace: An
absurdist, capitalistic, existential, and nihilistic argument.
Word Count: 1872 The Philosophy of Meaning and the Futility of Labor
Meaning is prevalent in the lives of most humans, to some it is as essential to life as breathing is,
but this search for meaning also has its drawbacks. It was the philosopher of absurdism, Albert
Camus that said I don t know whether this world has a meaning that transcends. But I know that I
cannot know that meaning and that it is impossible for me just to know it, (Archon). To Camus, the
absurd is an essential part of the world and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The futility of labor is not just seen in Greco Roman myths, it is also found in Western Abrahamic
religions, the book of Ecclesiastes takes a nihilistic turn on labor. It states that everything in life is
meaningless because no one will remember those who came before them and no one cares about
those who will follow after them. The author even states that he hated all of his efforts under the
sun because it would only better those who came after him. Nihilism is the belief that there is no
meaning in the world at all. Depending on the perspective of someone observing nihilistic studies,
this idea can be either depressing or freeing. Existentialism is a branch of philosophy that
contemplates what it means to exist, much like RenГ© Descartes statement of Cogito ergo sum, or
in English, I think therefore I am.
Economics and Meaning
While absurdists, existentialists, and nihilists believe that there is no meaning in the workplace or
that there is a meaning that is too complex for humans to understand, Adam Smith, the father of
modern capitalism, would argue that there is meaning in the workplace. This meaning comes in the
form of capitalism and the free market. According to philosopher Ayn Rand, capitalism is a term
used to denote the economic system that has been dominant in the western world since the breakup
of feudalism. Fundamental to any system called

Market Timing and Capital Structure for Baker and Wurgler
Abstract
It is well known that firms are more likely to issue equity when their market values are high,
relative to book and past market values, and to repurchase equity when their market values are low.
We document that the resulting effects on capital structure are very persistent. As a consequence,
current capital structure is strongly related to historical market values. The results suggest the
theory that capital structure is the cumulative outcome of past attempts to time the equity market.
Introduction
Equity market timing refers to the practice of issuing shares at high prices and repurchasing shares
at low prices. Equity market timing appears to be an important aspect of real corporate financial
policy. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relevant historical variation in market valuations is measured by the external finance weighted
average market to book ratio. This variable takes high values for firms that raised external finance
when the market to book ratio was high and vice versa. The intuitive motivation for this weighting
scheme is that external financing events represent practical opportunities to change leverage. It
therefore gives more weight to valuations that prevailed when significant external financing
decisions were being made, whether those decisions ultimately went toward debt or equity. This
weighted average is better than a set of lagged market to book ratios because it picks out, for each
firm, precisely which lags (intervals) are likely to be the most relevant. Intuitively the weights
correspond to times when capital structure was most likely to be changed.
When firms go public, their capital structure reflects a number of factors, including market to book,
asset tangibility, size, and research and development intensity. As firms age, the cross section of
leverage is more and more explained by past financing opportunities, as determined by the market to
book ratio, and past opportunities to accumulate retained earnings, as determined by profitability.
Historical within firm variation in market to book, not current cross firm variation, is more

Feminism Is A Conflict Theory
In this essay it will assess to what extent feminism has added to our understanding of society.
Firstly, Feminism is a conflict theory that believes that all religions are instruments set up by men
to oppress women with the set of beliefs and practices. There are many different branches of
feminism; the ones being evaluated are called Liberal, Radical and Marxist feminists. Feminists
believe that society is malestream and not mainstream as people believe. The first main flaw in
feminist theory is the fact that feminists only examine society from the viewpoint of women, they
do this because they believe they are in fact helping fight against the oppression of women but the
problem is that they do not examine the views of many male counterparts and therefore cannot help
us completely understand our society. The main differentiation between the different feminist
theories is the way that the oppression against women is caused. Firstly, Liberal feminist are
focused on human and civil rights and freedom of individuals, to summarise, they believe that all
humans should have equal rights within their society. They believe that society changing itself to
help women does not happen. Liberal feminists believe the status of women changing can become
a reality if laws that are oppressing for women change because it would create more opportunities
for women to prove that they are equal to men. Oakley explains a difference between sex and gender

In order to deliver a packet, a sender may have to wait for a certain period of time [4] until its
receiver becomes active. Sleep latency degrades the performance (e.g., delay and energy
consumption) of various kinds of data forwarding designs in low duty cycle networks. There are
two features that make flooding in low duty cycle networks challenging. First, a packet is
unlikely to be received by multiple nodes simultaneously as in always awake networks. To
broadcast a packet, a sender has to transmit the same packet multiple times if its receivers do not
wake up at the same time. Thus flooding in such networks is realized essentially by multiple
unicasts. Second, unlike wired networks, wireless communication is notoriously unreliable [4]. A
transmission is repeated if the previous transmissions are not successful due to wireless loss. The
combination of low duty cycle operation and unreliable links necessitates the design of a different
flooding mechanism than those found in wired networks and always awake wireless networks.
These combined have a knock on effects on reliability and cost [4]. One straightforward solution
could be building a routing tree for flooding. Yet this type of solutions have been shown [7] to be
fragile, because the failure of a parent node prevents

Representative Democracy In America
Many people believe that America is a democracy; these people are not wrong; however, the
more accurate term would be a representative democracy . The reason behind this is, as opposed
to every citizen going to the polls and voting on each public issue, we have elected officials that
vote based on their constituents preferences. Since it is the people that elect these representatives,
it is critical that public opinion be taken into consideration. However, regardless of how we gather
our data, bias often makes it difficult to accurately gauge public opinion. Public opinion can be
defined as the collective opinion of many people on some issue. When it comes to elections, party
members attempt to estimate a candidate favorability by polling the public using different
techniques such as: calling, online surveys, panels, and exit polls. However, when trying to get the
statistically most accurate result, party member must be weary of biases like biased questions,
undercoverage, and sampling bias.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

everything they can to prevent the repealment of the USA Patriot Act and other important laws that
help our intelligence agencies protect America? 87.5% of respondents answered no. Based on both

The Importance Of Natural Disasters In The Film Industry
Natural disasters are something that will likely plague the earth for years to come, even with the
advancements seen in technology by 2030. Until forecasting and prediction technology is
perfected, one can only hope to be adequately prepared when disaster strikes their location. Aside
from technology, the rapidly increasing global population also does not help with mitigation efforts
in terms of mitigating natural disaster casualties and destruction. Compared to a twenty year stretch
ranging from 1993 2013, the annual natural disaster death toll has doubled from 68,000 deaths, to
150,000 deaths per year (1).
Advancements in technology over the years have not been solely limited to natural disaster
mitigation. For example, the film industry currently offers Environfilms, a genre in which
realistic temperatures, smells, and motions are simulated throughout a disaster movie in
correspondence to the events on screen. In response to this increasingly realistic cinema
opportunities, the Science and Entertainment Exchange (SEE) has worked with filmmakers and
scientists over the years in an effort to create a new rating system. Unlike the Motion Picture
Association of America s film rating system which sets an age limit for movies, SEE s rating
system wishes to provide a guideline for scientific accuracy in disaster films. In doing so, SEE
wishes to help audiences comprehend fiction from reality, and observe an actor or actress
actions on screen as a potential guideline for rescue and survival situations during a natural
disaster. Movies will be rated by two scientists and two film industry professionals on a scale
ranging from one to five. Any film receiving an average above a four will receive the SEE seal of
approval. Any film under four will be forced to have a disclaimer, and issue an online explanation
on the limited scientific accuracy of the said film.
As a judge reviewing the aforementioned SEE proposal, I would motion to vote in favor of
applying the guidelines to disaster movies. In terms of civilian and consumer interests, I believe
the SEE ratings will only help the populations approval of the film industry, and faith in it.

Prohibition And The Prohibition Of America
The prohibition was a divided experiment that unintentionally brought organized crime, flourished
the presence of speakeasies in America and created a high rise of criminals in America. The
backfiring of the prohibition brought America an uprising in organized crime; criminals and the
consumption, manufacturing and selling of alcohol became more expensive and profitable to
those involved. Silk suits, guns, money and booze were the popular credentials amongst the finest
in the bootlegging and mob business. The prohibition had been recognized as an extraordinary
business opportunity and was exploited as such. In most major cities, gangs had been stocking up
on alcohol in anticipation for the beginning of the ban, leaving them with a guaranteed profit.
Alcohol became a keen part of the more urban culture of the 1920s despite the ban. People sought
out alcohol at illegal bars, known as speakeasies and through bootlegging. The authorities of the
time had earned the reputation of turning a blind eye to the illegal consumption and production of
alcohol, for the right price. Gangsters ruled the cities and in most cases, owned their streets.
Bribing government officials was common, and people were increasingly crafty in the way they
would hide alcohol such as hollowed out canes, false books and hip flasks. Violence on the streets
increased, as did unemployment. Tim Nash, The Finer Times The prohibition created drastic
changes in the way of thinking for the common criminal. The

Americ Pain Vs Gain
America: Pain vs Gain The late 19th century of America is best known for the increase of goods
made by machine. Prior to this movement, industries were run primarily by highly skilled
craftspeople. As 19th century America progressed, it became increasingly difficult to make a
living as a craftsperson; it became easier to work in a factory under wage labor. This movement
was viewed quite differently from many different people. There were a great deal of positive
aspects, but a great deal of negative ones as well. Many historical figures documented their views
of this movement in writing; among these are Andrew Carnegie with Andrew Carnegie Hails the
Triumph of America in 1885, and Henry George with Henry George Dissects the Paradox of
Capitalist Growth in 1879. Among the people who viewed the rise of industrial America as great
was Andrew Carnegie. In Andrew Carnegie Hails the Triumph of America, Carnegie lists ethnicity,
equality, education, and the superiority of the conditions under which [America] has developed (2)
as the causes that led to the rapid growth of America. Throughout his essay, Carnegie continuously
praises the conditions of industrial America and looks forward to the wonderful future it holds. At
no point in his writing does Carnegie take into consideration the hardships that the rise of industrial
America could cast upon people; he merely viewed the positive aspects. Unlike Carnegie, Henry
George addresses both the positive and the negative

Compare And Contrast The Four Empires
The Four Empires of Mesopotamia
In the distance across the land was four civilizations. These civilizations were known as the
Akkadians, the Babylonians, the Assyrians and finally the Neo Babylonians. All of the civilizations
that lived in mesopotamia rose and fell like the sun.
First, I will be talking about the Akkadians. For 1,200 years, Sumer was a land of independent city
states until in 2300 B.C.E. the akkadians came to conquer them. The akkadians came from northern
mesopotamia under rule of the first leader sargon. Sargon was both a strong king and skilled
general. He made this empire through effective military strategies. First he had to get a large army.
Next he had to teach them to fight in tight formations. This formation was called the turtle. There
was shields in the front. Behind the shields were spears. These guys would extend the spear in
between the shields. In the back they had archers. Sargon used his military to win territory for his
empire. After he defeated the king of the city state urak, Sargon had gained ... Show more content

Assyrians began to expand their territory. The assyrians were feared for there might and cruelty.
They had many achievements. There greatest achievement was there strategies with their

Analysis Of Modern Lincolns ArenT Normal Ford
Modern Lincolns Aren t Normal Fords Now, some might say that Your title is wrong, in the fact
that the Lincoln Motor Company was acquired by Ford Motor Company in 1922, and that very
fact makes them just a Ford. (Wiki) While that may be true, in the objective sense, and partially
in the subjective sense circa. 2008, I will explain while you are wrong later. There have been two
advertisements for two different vehicles released by Lincoln, one for the Lincoln Continental, and
one for the Lincoln MKX. One is a sedan, and the other is a Sport Utility Vehicle, and they are
both providing a way to stand out of the normal realm that Lincoln has been trapped in, and really

console that came with the Chalet theme for the Black Label, the sliding cup holder cover, the
Sync 3 infotainment system that it shares with the Ford vehicles, and other standard Lincoln
amenities. The second commercial is the feature for the Lincoln MKX, called Welcome which
is the second largest sized SUV out of the four that Lincoln offers, and is based on the Ford Edge
chassis. This Commercial starts out with Matthew McConaughey getting dressed up, shows him
putting on a nice white shirt, putting on an expensive looking watch, and then immediately
flashes to a short scene of the front Grille of the MKX, signaling that the MKX is just as nice.
He puts on a black suit jacket, and starts to walk towards the door to go to whatever expensive
party that he is getting dressed up for. As he is walking out the door, he walks by a table next to
the door that has a single Lincoln key, which signals to me that the MKX is the only car that you
need. It shows the entrance illumination feature that comes with the MKX, where the Lincoln
emblem gets projected onto the ground from the mirror. After he sits in the driver s seat, it shows
him pushing the start button, and it flashes to the tachometer, and displays a very

Witch Testing Dbq
Some of the witch tests were inhumane and cruel, sometimes resulting in death before they even
came to a conclusion that they were witches or not. Bordering on torture and execution. They were
unfair and biased, and could be brought on by little as an accusation and a neighbor.
The water trials were that the convicted were thrown into a running body of water, since it was
believed that their evil deeds would reject the water, so they would float. They had a rope tied
around their waste for those who sank, so they were able to be pulled out. In the case they floated,
they were occasionally executed. Even if they did sink and were seen as innocent, it was not
uncommon for accidental drowning s to occur.

Witch cakes is a bizarre trial where they used the urine of the victim, and fed it to the familiar of

accused was considered a witch.
Another test is the prick, or scratch test. If a witch mark is not found, people used a specially
designed needle to stab all over the accused, because it was believed that witch marks were
insensitive and could not bleed. The scratch test is when the victim of witchcraft, scratches the
accused until they bleed, if their situation gets better and their symptoms improve, it is seen as

Vioxx and Merck Co. Essay
Vioxx/Merck
Summary
The painkiller Vioxx was introduced in 1999 by Merck amp; Co. It has been used by over 20
million Americans since it was put on the market. Vioxx remained on the market for approximately
five years without adequate warnings about its risks. In September of 2004, Merck took Vioxx off
the market after a study revealed that it doubled the risk of heart attack or stroke for patients that
used it for more than 18 months. Although Merck claimed that they had no idea of these possibly
lethal side effects, some internal documents imply that they had been aware of the problem for
years and had not made moves to change it. Over 300 lawsuits have been filed against Merck, and
it is expected that thousands more will arise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without their votes, the committee would have voted that Vioxx should not return to the market.
Response
Personally, I was shocked by the Merck/Vioxx situation. I could not believe that something that
was basically proven to cause heart attacks and strokes was permitted to be put on the market in
the first place, and the fact that it may be brought back is horrible. I believe that things are being
handled terribly. Since so many of the members of the committee are financially connected with
Merck amp; Co., they would obviously vote in a way that would support the company, and in turn,
benefit themselves. It seems that the value of the well being of the patients that use this medication
is being neglected while the Merck and its associates simply look out for themselves.
I do not believe that Vioxx should be put back on the market. For one thing, it has already become
clear how detrimental its side effects can be. Another reason is that allowing this drug to be put back
on the market will only discourage efforts made to create drugs that will be just as effective but
without the negative side effects. I also disagree with the statement made by the committee, which
basically said that it was acceptable to disburse this drug as long as it had a warning and that a
person should be able to

Azalea Project Marketing
Foundations of Marketing Azalea Project
1.What do you see as Azalea s most pressing marketing problem? Does it lie in their product, price,

The most pressing marketing problems are:
Commitment to the overall goals allowing the appropriate marketing strategy to be devised and

Price The price may need to be increased to support the expansion in to a new facility. I would
recommend only an increase large enough to transition into the facility and then hold the price
steady again until the effect of the price increase is evaluated. Once the full impact is understood,
perhaps put an incremental increase in place with cost living increases. The goal is to make more
profit by increasing volume as opposed to keeping the same volume and increasing price.
Promotion Once the new facility was in place a promotion targeted at the food serviced brokers
and the restaurant chains (like Pub 99) outlining the detail of how Azalea has increased their
capacity and automated their process with the most up to date sanitary precautions emphasizing
they are USDA certified. As the expansion ability lies with these entities the promotion would be
aimed at them. The consumer purchasing the product already knows how good the product is, so it
is less about the new product being promoted and more about the expansion of the existing product
and Azalea s ability to meet the demand. Face to face selling to the executives of the food service
brokers and restaurant chains will be essential in the success of the plan. In addition, they will need
to balance the loyalty of the high end resteraunteur that demands individual attention.
The potential problems with this plan are:

Reading And Reflecting On Michael Lewis The Big Short
Reading and Reflecting on Michael Lewis The Big Short For Commercial Bank Management
class I read The Big Short and reflected on its contents. In this paper, I will describe my reading
of the book and show how it relates to this class. I devoted about a week to this project reading,
reflecting and writing. During this activity, I kept notes on what I was reading so that I could
better understand exactly what happened in terms of concepts like collateralized debt obligations,
etc. But what most interested me about this activity was the human element of the story. Lewis
begins The Big Short by telling the story of Meredith Whitney, whose expose on Citigroup in 2007
began a series of Wall Street unraveling. Lewis contacted her to find... Show more content on

Eisman is like the little reminder that pops up along the way to let Macbeth know that he is not
on the right track: it is called a conscience and Macbeth finally squashes it out of himself.
Eisman, Lewis shows, has been the voice of conscience on Wall Street for some time, admitting
to the unconscionable whether the head of a large U.S. brokerage firm or the president of a
large Japanese real estate firm that their own dealings fail to make any sense. In the world, there
are two types of people, those who say yes and everything else you want to hear and those who
say the truth. Eisman, however, is the latter type. Vinny Daniel is another. Hired by Arthur
Andersen, his job as an accountant was to account audit the big Wall Street firms, in other
words. In theory, that is what his job was supposed to be. In reality, his job was to rubber stamp
and approve all that such firms set before him. There is regulation in Wall Street. It is just easily
gotten around. People like Vinny Daniel are the ones who clog up the works: He concluded that
there was effectively no way for an accountant assigned to audit a giant Wall Street firm to figure
out whether it was making money or losing money (Lewis 11).

  • 3. The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens The purpose of Covey s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is to better mold a teen s mind frame. Most teen s lives are crazy and have no order. These seven habits help teens get control over their lives. The first part is the private victory, followed by the public victory, and finally the renewal. If all of these habits are applied, they will help all teens to be more successful and get more out of life. Habit 1 is all about being proactive, and taking charge of yourself. You can t keep blaming everything else but yourself. You are in control of your attitude towards everything that happens. In life s situations you have the choice of either being proactive or reactive. Being reactive is allowing other people and things control you. Instead of reacting to small stuff that have little or no control, proactive people focus on things they can control. They separate their experiences from the circumstances. You are the force of positive actions, and changing actions that aren t helpful is the best way to take responsibility of your life. In addition, Habit 2 is about beginning with the end in mind. This is where you create your own personal mission statement. Mission statements help you focus, clarify what is important, and are a guide for decision making. It can be about yourself, family, or about organization. Your future is dependent on control, guidance, and rules. A solid foundation of your own principles will help you be a leader. • 4. 1984 Comparison Essay George Orwell s 1984 is a great allegory about life under communist rule. Throughout the book there are many concepts that directly relate to the rule of Josef Stalin in the U.S.S.R. The first evidence can be seen in the posters of Big Brother that are posted everywhere around London. These posters are described as having the face of a man of about forty five, with a heavy black mustache and ruggedly handsome features . (1) Similarly, most if not all of the Stalin era propaganda posters featured an image of Stalin which resembles the description of Big Brother. The resemblance of Big Brother to Stalin is not the only reference to communism in 1984. Another connection that could be made between communism and Oceanic society is economic.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... there is also the control of the media. Similar to how the Party controlled every medium in Oceania; Stalin s communist party controlled every medium in the U.S.S.R. during its reign and any sort of political unorthodoxy was forbidden.(lib) In both instances nothing that cast either Big Brother or Stalin in a negative light was allowed. Consequently, both Stalin and Big Brother developed a cult of personality . This meant that since everything about them was portrayed in a positive light they were idolized by the people in their nation. This is evidenced in 1984 by the passage about how Big Brother is to be seen in Goldstein s book, Big Brother is infallible and all powerful. Every success, every achievement, every victory, every scientific discovery, all knowledge, all wisdom, all happiness, all virtue, are held to issue directly from his leadership and inspiration. (121) This is why the term Big Brother was used in 1984 he was the savior of the people, their protector. A real life parallel to this is that Stalin was commonly referred to as Uncle Joe. The effect of the media control turned them both into objects of adulation that could do no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, there is an issue with an anonymous individual in the company, essentially whistleblowing internally to inform John, the chief executive officer (CEO) of performance issues with a new product. Therefore, this is an issue, since the anonymous employee chose to bypass the appreciate communication channels being Joe and Mary, the new district manager and division manager, respectively to communicate the matter higher up on the corporate chain. Individualism in The Fountainhead Essay Individualism in The Fountainhead Individualism, the doctrine of free thought and action of the individual, forms the basis of Ayn Rand s novel The Fountainhead. The major theme of her fiction is the primacy of the individual, the unique and precious individual life. That which sustains and enriches life is good, that which negates and impoverishes the individual s pursuit of happiness is evil. The Fountainhead is Rand s fullest explication of the primacy of the individual. In all his major works, it was Roark who provided him with ideas. When he achieves everything he should want, he doesn t understand the hollowness of it all. He can never be satisfied because he has never gone after what he wants. He is a parasite, a second hander as Roark calls him; incapable of self direction. Micah Bayar had been punished by his father because of using the amulet when he was not properly trained or of the wizardry age. While Raisa, the princess, had been in the mountains waiting for Micah with her mother, she saw the fire coming. This fire caused fear among the Queen s Guard, and Captain Byrne, the royal captain of the soldiers. It also spread fear amongst the rest of the royal individuals. Since that had set everybody off, people started questioning the decisions of the Queen, specifically outsiders, and clan people. Another example, when Han had escaped from the Southies, the day after, six Southies were found dead on the ground, and it didn t look like the work of a knife. People threw accusations at the Raggers, Han included, even though he had left the gang. To encourage demonstratation, Han had been walking in the night to Southbridge Temple. Coated figures approached him. Rumors of these creatures had said they were monsters, demons. They pressed Han into revealing Shiv s hideout, and that he would be rewarded. The Tragic Hero and the Tragic Story in William Shakespeare s Writing Shakespeare s tragedies are, for the most part, stories of one person, the hero, or at most two, to include the heroine. His fate affects the welfare of a whole nation or empire; and when he falls suddenly from the height of earthly greatness to the dust, his fall produces a sense of contrast, of the powerlessness of man, and the omnipotence perhaps the caprice of Fate or Fortune, which no tale of private life could possibly rival. Such feelings are constantly invoked by Shakespeare s tragedies again, in varying degrees. To this point, then, we can extend the definition of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, Robin Hood was not always depicted as a beloved hero, stealing from the rich and redistributing to the poor. In fact, many early representations of Robin Hood characterize him as a morally ambiguous, primarily self interested yeoman. Regardless of the highly varying interpretations of the character, Robin Hoods adventures seem to resonate with audiences through the ages and the narrative has no doubt had a profound impact on modern day media and culture. This has led to a multitude of suggested identities for Robin Hood. One primary candidate for the real Robin Hood was Robert Hobbehod, a fugitive of the early 13th century. Sir J.C. Holt, an English medieval historian, supports this theory as the most likely origin of Robin Hood, pointing to similarities between Hobbehod and the Robin Hood described in one of his earliest depictions, A Gest of Robyn Hode: He was an outlaw. He lived at a time to which several incidental features of the Gest point and in which the main topics of the Gest were major problems for the lesser landowning class. Within four years of the first reference to Hobbe and in areas which included the very county from which he is known to have come, there was an active outburst of Robin Hood like activities led by men of this class. The ship itself is very realistically represented with its shape and its apex, along with its many attachments including an oar box, doubled rows of oar slots, and a battering ram that extends outward and upward off the front of the prow. Using the warship as the base of the Nike aids in portraying her sense of motion. The naturalism and the drama of The Nike of Samothrace and her warship are intensified further by the physical setting of the pair. The growth of metropolitan areas is essential for the nation and its citizens because they are the key political and economic regions. Metropolitan covers one or more urban areas, towns, satellite cities, and rural regions that are socially and economically joined to the urban areas. Various studies that had been conducted regarding the development of metropolitan areas, particularly in the United States, have found out that various factors have played a crucial role in fostering these developments. Some of these factors include; crime, race, immigration, and design assimilation. It is, therefore, significant to understand the benefits of metropolitan growth, who reaps them, the cost of metropolitan growth, and who is responsible for paying these costs. The first success strategy that I find to be the most important is self motivation (Downing, 2004). It took me a long time to understand, and gain the courage to have self motivation. Sometimes it s really hard to have self motivation because of family, friends, and life in general. For example, when I graduated high school, I moved to Presque Isle to go to school for nursing. Three weeks into my first semester I got engaged, and moved back home. At that point I was a college dropout, and didn t think I could go back to college. This all began as anticolonial elites in the Indian National Congress Party began to negotiate about a peaceful transfer of power from the British. WWII caused a crisis in relations between the British, the Muslim League, and Indian National Conference (Hindu dominated). Ghandi was the leading figure of the INC. He advocated for a unified Hindu and Muslim Indian, but other officials however disagreed about what kind of independent state India should have. The Hindus were the majority, and the Muslims were the minority. There was much debate about which culture would define the new nation. Up until this point it was the Hindu culture that defined Indian culture. In 1946 riots broke out between the Hindus and Muslims, and the leader of the Muslim League demanded that British India be partitioned into separate Muslim and Hindu states. So in order to avoid a civil war, colonial rulers decided to divide the subcontinent in two parts: India and Pakistan. On August 14th, 1947 Pakistan gained Independence from Britain and one day later India did as well. Unfortunately after this newfound independence violence broke out. It is estimated that 1 million Hindus and Muslims killed one another. • 33. How The Search For Meaning And The Futility Of Labor Alexander Martinie Mr. Laverde AP Capstone Seminar Period One Third Rough Draft How the search for meaning in the workplace affects productivity within the workplace: An absurdist, capitalistic, existential, and nihilistic argument. Word Count: 1872 The Philosophy of Meaning and the Futility of Labor Meaning is prevalent in the lives of most humans, to some it is as essential to life as breathing is, but this search for meaning also has its drawbacks. It was the philosopher of absurdism, Albert Camus that said I don t know whether this world has a meaning that transcends. But I know that I cannot know that meaning and that it is impossible for me just to know it, (Archon). To Camus, the absurd is an essential part of the world and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The futility of labor is not just seen in Greco Roman myths, it is also found in Western Abrahamic religions, the book of Ecclesiastes takes a nihilistic turn on labor. It states that everything in life is meaningless because no one will remember those who came before them and no one cares about those who will follow after them. The author even states that he hated all of his efforts under the sun because it would only better those who came after him. Nihilism is the belief that there is no meaning in the world at all. Depending on the perspective of someone observing nihilistic studies, this idea can be either depressing or freeing. Existentialism is a branch of philosophy that contemplates what it means to exist, much like RenГ© Descartes statement of Cogito ergo sum, or in English, I think therefore I am. Economics and Meaning While absurdists, existentialists, and nihilists believe that there is no meaning in the workplace or that there is a meaning that is too complex for humans to understand, Adam Smith, the father of modern capitalism, would argue that there is meaning in the workplace. This meaning comes in the form of capitalism and the free market. According to philosopher Ayn Rand, capitalism is a term used to denote the economic system that has been dominant in the western world since the breakup of feudalism. • 34. Market Timing and Capital Structure for Baker and Wurgler Abstract It is well known that firms are more likely to issue equity when their market values are high, relative to book and past market values, and to repurchase equity when their market values are low. We document that the resulting effects on capital structure are very persistent. As a consequence, current capital structure is strongly related to historical market values. The results suggest the theory that capital structure is the cumulative outcome of past attempts to time the equity market. Introduction Equity market timing refers to the practice of issuing shares at high prices and repurchasing shares at low prices. Equity market timing appears to be an important aspect of real corporate financial policy. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relevant historical variation in market valuations is measured by the external finance weighted average market to book ratio. This variable takes high values for firms that raised external finance when the market to book ratio was high and vice versa. The intuitive motivation for this weighting scheme is that external financing events represent practical opportunities to change leverage. It therefore gives more weight to valuations that prevailed when significant external financing decisions were being made, whether those decisions ultimately went toward debt or equity. This weighted average is better than a set of lagged market to book ratios because it picks out, for each firm, precisely which lags (intervals) are likely to be the most relevant. Intuitively the weights correspond to times when capital structure was most likely to be changed. When firms go public, their capital structure reflects a number of factors, including market to book, asset tangibility, size, and research and development intensity. As firms age, the cross section of leverage is more and more explained by past financing opportunities, as determined by the market to book ratio, and past opportunities to accumulate retained earnings, as determined by profitability. • 35. Feminism Is A Conflict Theory In this essay it will assess to what extent feminism has added to our understanding of society. Firstly, Feminism is a conflict theory that believes that all religions are instruments set up by men to oppress women with the set of beliefs and practices. There are many different branches of feminism; the ones being evaluated are called Liberal, Radical and Marxist feminists. Feminists believe that society is malestream and not mainstream as people believe. The first main flaw in feminist theory is the fact that feminists only examine society from the viewpoint of women, they do this because they believe they are in fact helping fight against the oppression of women but the problem is that they do not examine the views of many male counterparts and therefore cannot help us completely understand our society. The main differentiation between the different feminist theories is the way that the oppression against women is caused. Firstly, Liberal feminist are focused on human and civil rights and freedom of individuals, to summarise, they believe that all humans should have equal rights within their society. They believe that society changing itself to help women does not happen. Liberal feminists believe the status of women changing can become a reality if laws that are oppressing for women change because it would create more opportunities for women to prove that they are equal to men. In order to deliver a packet, a sender may have to wait for a certain period of time [4] until its receiver becomes active. Sleep latency degrades the performance (e.g., delay and energy consumption) of various kinds of data forwarding designs in low duty cycle networks. There are two features that make flooding in low duty cycle networks challenging. First, a packet is unlikely to be received by multiple nodes simultaneously as in always awake networks. To broadcast a packet, a sender has to transmit the same packet multiple times if its receivers do not wake up at the same time. Thus flooding in such networks is realized essentially by multiple unicasts. Second, unlike wired networks, wireless communication is notoriously unreliable [4]. A transmission is repeated if the previous transmissions are not successful due to wireless loss. The combination of low duty cycle operation and unreliable links necessitates the design of a different flooding mechanism than those found in wired networks and always awake wireless networks. These combined have a knock on effects on reliability and cost [4]. One straightforward solution could be building a routing tree for flooding. Yet this type of solutions have been shown [7] to be fragile, because the failure of a parent node prevents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason behind this is, as opposed to every citizen going to the polls and voting on each public issue, we have elected officials that vote based on their constituents preferences. Since it is the people that elect these representatives, it is critical that public opinion be taken into consideration. However, regardless of how we gather our data, bias often makes it difficult to accurately gauge public opinion. Public opinion can be defined as the collective opinion of many people on some issue. When it comes to elections, party members attempt to estimate a candidate favorability by polling the public using different techniques such as: calling, online surveys, panels, and exit polls. The Importance Of Natural Disasters In The Film Industry Natural disasters are something that will likely plague the earth for years to come, even with the advancements seen in technology by 2030. Until forecasting and prediction technology is perfected, one can only hope to be adequately prepared when disaster strikes their location. Aside from technology, the rapidly increasing global population also does not help with mitigation efforts in terms of mitigating natural disaster casualties and destruction. Compared to a twenty year stretch ranging from 1993 2013, the annual natural disaster death toll has doubled from 68,000 deaths, to 150,000 deaths per year (1). Advancements in technology over the years have not been solely limited to natural disaster mitigation. For example, the film industry currently offers Environfilms, a genre in which realistic temperatures, smells, and motions are simulated throughout a disaster movie in correspondence to the events on screen. In response to this increasingly realistic cinema opportunities, the Science and Entertainment Exchange (SEE) has worked with filmmakers and scientists over the years in an effort to create a new rating system. Unlike the Motion Picture Association of America s film rating system which sets an age limit for movies, SEE s rating system wishes to provide a guideline for scientific accuracy in disaster films. In doing so, SEE wishes to help audiences comprehend fiction from reality, and observe an actor or actress actions on screen as a potential guideline for rescue and survival situations during a natural disaster. Movies will be rated by two scientists and two film industry professionals on a scale ranging from one to five. Any film receiving an average above a four will receive the SEE seal of approval. Any film under four will be forced to have a disclaimer, and issue an online explanation on the limited scientific accuracy of the said film. As a judge reviewing the aforementioned SEE proposal, I would motion to vote in favor of applying the guidelines to disaster movies. The backfiring of the prohibition brought America an uprising in organized crime; criminals and the consumption, manufacturing and selling of alcohol became more expensive and profitable to those involved. Silk suits, guns, money and booze were the popular credentials amongst the finest in the bootlegging and mob business. The prohibition had been recognized as an extraordinary business opportunity and was exploited as such. In most major cities, gangs had been stocking up on alcohol in anticipation for the beginning of the ban, leaving them with a guaranteed profit. Alcohol became a keen part of the more urban culture of the 1920s despite the ban. People sought out alcohol at illegal bars, known as speakeasies and through bootlegging. The authorities of the time had earned the reputation of turning a blind eye to the illegal consumption and production of alcohol, for the right price. Gangsters ruled the cities and in most cases, owned their streets. Bribing government officials was common, and people were increasingly crafty in the way they would hide alcohol such as hollowed out canes, false books and hip flasks. In September of 2004, Merck took Vioxx off the market after a study revealed that it doubled the risk of heart attack or stroke for patients that used it for more than 18 months. I believe that things are being handled terribly. Since so many of the members of the committee are financially connected with Merck amp; Co., they would obviously vote in a way that would support the company, and in turn, benefit themselves. It seems that the value of the well being of the patients that use this medication is being neglected while the Merck and its associates simply look out for themselves. I do not believe that Vioxx should be put back on the market. For one thing, it has already become clear how detrimental its side effects can be. Another reason is that allowing this drug to be put back on the market will only discourage efforts made to create drugs that will be just as effective but without the negative side effects.
