Squatter By Thomas King Summary
The idea of a home is a broad one that has very different ways of responding to it. This is the way
of thinking that to writers use in their short stories. For the writers, the way they view home is
one of identity and culture. While these two themes are positive the writers show how they get
people in trouble with law and day to day life. In the short story borders by Thomas King, the
concept of home is illustrated on the focuses on the nationality and identity of a person rather than
the place they call home. The viewpoint of the home creates a diverse idea in which a home is not
where one lives but who the view themselves as. This is seen I the interaction of the mother and the
border patrol over who she claims her citizenship as. citizenship ? Blackfoot, my mother told him
(pg. 257). This starts an altercation between the mother and the patrol officers in which Blackfoot is
not a citizenship but still an identity of home. This the way mother identifies her sense home in
heritage instead of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The transformation of home or heritage can be one of the hardships as the usual and accepted
become wrong and unacceptable, this sequentially leads to the embarrassment of a person s own
identity. This is seen in the way that Sarosh asks for help from immigration. It s a different kind
of problem. I ... I don t know how to explain ... it s an immigration related problem (pg.309). the
reality of having the lifestyle of a person being a problem to be ashamed of reflects that their
home is in away wrong. At the same time, this is a choice that is made as a person creates a new
home. The old ways and beliefs are in a sense never lost to the new home but instead, they are
used as building blocks and promises to the residents of the old home. The contrast of both stories
is seen by the same defining theme that is seen in the

Case Study Of Conflict At Textile Gulshan Mills
In the morning of May, 2010, Shahzad Akbar, chief executive officer (CEO) and owner of
Textile Gulshan Mills sat in his office puzzling over the best way that how to deal with conflicts
among the employees of the company. The conflicts results from ethnic differences were

desired to take firm action that was thwarted by the even more dangerous possibility of crippling
union strikes. Indeed, the diversity at Textile Gulshan Mills was causing tremendous issue at

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Welfare
Did you know that 56 billion animals are slaughtered each year? People believe that farmers are
abusing and causing stress on the animals. Farmers use confined feeding operations to maximize
the production. By having the confined feeding operations, it gives the animals no room to graze.
When they can t graze, it restricts the animal to move or to exercise ( On The Farm). The animalsare
not given any pain relief during certain practices like castration or dehorning. Animal welfareis not
needed in the farming aspect, because the animals are meant for food. In the 1970 s, animal
welfarist got together and tried to sue farmers for being cruel and harming animals. The
government created the right to farm laws. That law protected farmers rights when farming.
Twelve states banned certain farm practices because they were believed to be inhumane. Those
bans include, gestation crates for sows, veal crates for calves, and battery cages for chickens.
All those states that banned the practices were small in the ag field. The farmers are saying that
they are not hurting animals, they are protecting them. People that live in cities or that don t
experience the farm work will say it is inhumane. Farmers are trying to make changes to stop
these regulations. State Farm Bureaus are trying backing up the farmers. The regulations could
ruin the agricultural business (Fifield). Farmers use the most efficient methods which lower the
prices for the consumer. The other people would say that the most efficient way goes against the
animal s welfare. When using the high welfare methods it raises the price of eggs by 18% which
is about 49 cents per dozen. Walmart and McDonalds will be using only cage free eggs by 2025.
That will increase the price of the eggs. They cages and crates are said to be safe and sanitary
ways for egg production. Makes the price of food increase because the farmer can t have as many
animals because it requires too much space to be humane (Fifield). Gestation crates are the safest
way for a sow to give birth. Gestation crates are inhumane for the sows. They can only stand or lie
down. And they are in the crate for up to 4 months without walking. Going 4 months without
walking will cause stress on the

Dr. Nidhi Vats
M.A. English (Final)
Decoding Wolfgang Iser‟s Reading Process Theory through the Text of Mrs Dalloway and
Bravely Fought the Queen In the 1960s, the new criticism theory in the American Literary arena
focused on the reading of a literary text as an independent form and not to be studied in relation to
any context. This gave birth to another theory that began majorly in 1960s and 1970s known as
reader response criticism, which also tried to do away with the author‟s role and focused on the
reader‟s perception that defined the text‟s subjectivity. In his work The Reading Process A
Phenomenological Approach , Wolfgang Iserdescribes about the reading of a literary work or text
as an interaction between the reader and the author. In order to understand a text in a better way
and to explore its meaning, Louise Rosenblatt in his work Literature as Exploration described how
the readers should be free from any preconceived notions about the proper way to react to any
work (Lewis,C.S.,1961) to experience any work or text individually. Similarly,
Iser also want the readers to make a niche for themselves while the aesthetic reading of a wok or a
text. Wolfgang Iser‟s reading in reference to two works, namely, Mrs Dalloway by Virginia
Woolf and Bravely Fought the Queen by Mahesh Dattani has been assessed in order to have a better
understanding and a practical approach in exploration or understanding the meaning of the texts.

Analysis Of The Movie Copycat
Analysis of Copycat (1995) In the movie Copycat from 1995 there is a character named Helen
Hudson (Sigourney Weaver) who is a psychiatrist that studies the behavior of serial killers. At
the beginning of the film she is giving a lecture at the University of San Francisco and at the end
of the lecture, Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick, Jr.) follows Helen into the restroom and tries
to hang her, but fails and gets locked up in prison. Thirteen months later, Helen suffers from
panic attacks and agoraphobia which have resulted from her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
She has been housebound for months now and has a homosexual assistant named Andy (John
Rothman). Darryl Lee is in contact with William McNamara, another psychopath who wants to
follow in Darryl Lee s footsteps and become famous. So Darryl Lee tells William to continue his
work of killing Helen. He does this by copying other serial killer signatures such as John Wayne
Gacy, the Boston strangler, and Son of Sam etc. Three murders have occurred and Helen notices
through newspapers that each murder seems to be done by one person. Therefore, she calls the
police to leave an anonymous tip and they mock her and brush her off as a prank call. However,
Officer M.J. Monaham (Holly Hunter) becomes curious and starts to think that Helen would be
able to add to the investigation. So she obtains the case files and wants to get Helen s opinion on
the case. At first Helen is reluctant to help because as M.J. Monaham starts to

Modifying Storm s Behavior Paper
Modifying Storms Behavior Personal data regarding the subject The study I will be conducting
is to modify my dog s behavior. The data that I am obtaining, will come from me observing my
dog. Within this study, I am hoping to decrease my dog s bad behaviors such as tearing up my
personal belongings which could vary from shoes to destroying furniture. The subject is a one
year old male Australian Shepherd mixed with Dachshund. He has a unique color scheme
consisting of mainly black and white with a hint of brown. Considering the variety of colors
found in his coat, I created the name, Storm. I live in an apartment complex, therefore the
subject is an inside dog and only goes out to use the restroom. The subject is a happy and healthy
dog, who is up to date on all shots. Description of the target behavior He is an only dog, who

Over a four week span, I will use a frequency measure to count how many times the behavior
occurs each day. When Storm demonstrates a bad behavior, he will be put into the cage for an
increment of time; which will vary from 20 minutes the first week down to 5 minutes the fourth
week. Another way to assist in helping him understand good vs. bad behavior, is to commend
him with words, which would be like saying good boy or actions such as patting him, when he is
chewing on one of his own toys. (quote) However, when he starts to chew on one of my items, I
will tell him no and then lead him to his crate. (Insert QUOTE HERE ) By doing this, it helps
him distinguish what is right and what is wrong. Using the frequency measure would be
beneficial because every time he chews up a personal item, I can make a tally of it, allowing me to

What Are James Madison s Major Accomplishments
James Madison was born March 16, 1751 in Belle Grove, Port Conway.1 He was the oldest of 12
children, seven of who actually lived to adulthood. His parents were James Madison Sr. And
Eleanor Rose Conway. Rose, his mother lived to be ninety eight years old. In 1762 at the age of
11 he was sent to a boarding school in King and Queen county, Virginia. His father, James, was a
successful planter and owned more than 3,000 acres of land with dozens of slaves. He died of heart
failure at the age of 85 on June 28, 1836. He died at the Montpelier estate.2
At the age of twenty nine, Madison became the youngest member of the Continental Congress, and
within a year, the small soft spoken young man had emerged as a respected leader of the body. After

constitution. Madison was the fourth president of the United States of America from 1809 to 1817 .

Madison represented Virginia during the Constitutional convention in 1787, and his proposal of
the so called Virginia plan. It became part of the present American constitution, leading to the
nickname Father of the Constitution . Madison was one of the key figures behind the Embargo
act of 1807,which only had little impact on Britain and France, but ultimately caused the United
States economy to sink into a severe depression. And in spite of his lack of success with the
Embargo ,Madison was elected president in 1808. Madison was involved in the Virginia
Convention in 1829, however he felt that the quality of the attendees was below par and refused
to be further involved in any other capacity. His influence over young minds was felt in the
hallways where he instructed several of the attendees on how all of their views should be formed.

Essay on Perception in Mary ShellyВґs Frankenstein
Perception; The ability to see, hear or become aware of something through the senses.
In Marry Shelly s Frankenstein, perception plays a key part in the monsters icy demise. Not only
is the story affected by how the villagers perceive the monster, but the readers perception, like in
any literary work, plays the role of ultimate judge. Most responses to Frankenstein are derived
directly from pop culture. The green dude with bolts, right? or Oh yeah... I love Frankenberry

If the creature were to be asked questions such as Who are you? What are you? Where do you
come from? he would be hard pressed for an answer. However, there are certain subtle clues in the
text to point to the Creature possibly being of the Mongolian/Asian race using the th Century
descriptions of man.
UCLA professor Anne K. Mellor points to the Creature s Mongolian race by noting that at the
beginning of the novel, Walton and his men have set off on their voyage to China by way of the
North Pole.
Mary Shelley describes this newborn giant as having yellow skin, black and flowing hair, the
dun white or light grey brown of both irises of his eyes and sockets. The Creature is definitely not
Caucasian, nor is he the same race as his maker. Even the character known as Walton notices the
difference in appearance between Victor and the traveller preceding him, as he notes Victor was not
as the other traveller seemed to be, a savage inhabitant of some undisclosed island, but an European.
When the monster meets Frankenstein for the first true meeting in the novel, he steals away the
scientist and takes him to his cave where he has stayed. He tells him the story of his

The Qualities Of An Anglo Saxon Hero
Bravery. Honor. Intelligence. Loyalty. Sense of Duty. Selflessness. Sense of Justice. Strength.
Boasting. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxon heroes
display some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them as a hero. Much like Batman
and Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon heroes protect the public against evil
foes, or perhaps Villains. They act courageously and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also,
they possess an overwhelming sense of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are
loyal to those they serve, whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind,
the character of Beowulfcan clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming
bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all, Beowulf is
the pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that
race from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean
and killing them one by one , is clearly the bravest man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before
he slayed Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of
the bravest men in the word. Then, while battling the three beasts we witness in Beowulf, he further
shows his bravery by killing Grendel with nothing but the strength in his fingers.
After that, he swims down through

(a)Analyse the requirements that sports and outdoor wear would have to meet in order to be
effective if worn in NZ in a range of environments eg skiing in the Southern Alps during winter,
tramping the Southern Alps in summer, running in summer/winter, as urban wear in cities. (8 marks)
New Zealand is known to be the land of extremes. Extremes, not only in terms of travel and
adventures but as well as the climate. Having one of the severest UV rays in the world,
unpredictable weather conditions, and variable temperatures all over the country, New Zealand is
truly a land of extremes. Therefore, clothing in New Zealand are required to withstand no matter
what season, weather condition, and time of the year it is.
New Zealand s climate can only be described in one word: unpredictable. Though mostly it has
cool to warm temperature, it has microclimates, which is a local atmospheric zone where the
climate is different from the surrounding area, owing to its varied topography, and mountain
ranges. It has rainfall which is evenly distributed throughout the year in most parts of the country
but such is still dependent on the area s topography as some land area are considered to have
borderline oceanic climate or a climate that is intermediate between desert and humid. The country
also experiences varied snow falls depending on its parts. Its higher altitude commonly receives
ample snow fall while its sea level area receives unpredictable to rare snow fall moments. And

The Health Care Provider Ordered An Hiv Test Based On The...
The health care provider ordered an HIV test based on the patient s narrative and his positive TB
status. Tuberculosis infection is frequently an initial indication of HIV infection. Therefore, it is
routine to test patients with TB for HIV. Also, the patient complains of being run down and sick all
of the time, which could be a sign that his immune system is impaired.
The presence of any other opportunistic infections or malignancies may also be indicative of HIV.
Opportunistic infections occur when typically harmless microorganisms are able to cause disease
in individuals who are immunocompromised. Common opportunistic infections in HIV positive
patients include: Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia, candidiasis, toxoplasmosis, diarrhea caused by
Cryptosporidium parvum, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) caused by the JC
virus, and many others. Kaposi sarcoma, an opportunistic malignancy, is a major indicator of HIV
infection. This cancer occurs only in individuals who are severely immunocompromised and
manifests as lesions on the skin and mucous membranes.
Mr. A s statement reflects the need for further education about HIV transmission. The nurse should
inform Mr. A that HIV is primarily spread through unprotected sexual intercourse and by sharing
contaminated needles for intravenous drug use. Individuals engaging in risky sexual behaviors (e.g.
unprotected anal intercourse) are at highest risk for contracting HIV, regardless of sexual
orientation. The nurse

Comparison Of Gestures In France And America
1.Greetings
When you meet a new person in France, the polite thing to do would be to shake their hand, say
hello, and introduce yourself to everyone in the room if you had just arrived. If you were greeting
a close friend of family member you would then kiss them once on each cheek (3 kisses in South
France). Friends address each other with their first names in an informal manner like many young
people do. Adults tend to be more conservative and formal and tend to be un expressive in front of
people they don t know well. Some inappropriate conversation topics would be anything having to
do with: age, income, occupation, family, asking how much something costs, asking where
something was purchased, talking loudly, chewing gum, and calling attention to oneself.
2.Gestures Body language such as hand gestures and facial expressions is very important while
talking to the French (especially in the South). Exaggerated expressions and movements help
convey the reality of a story or explanation. Gestures in France and America are quite similar.
Shrugging your shoulders means that you don t know or you don t care. Putting up both of your
hands with your palms up illustrates helplessness or anger. And making a circle with your thumb
and forefinger stands for saying that something is okay or even perfect.

Comparing Frantz Fanon And Mahatma Gandhi
Danielle Patton
Final Paper
History 1500 to Present
December 4th, 2014
When you look back through time at the history of decolonization, there are many names that come
to mind, but two that should be focused on are Frantz Fanon and Mahatma Gandhi. Both of these
men were strong advocates for anti colonialism and nationalism. Their attitudes can be described by
this quote from Frantz Fanon who said, what matters is not to know the world but to change it.
They may have been active during different times in history, but they both took action to see that
the countries they represented were run in an anti colonialistic and nationalistic way. A few
questions that may arise though is why did both of these men feel so strongly, what actions did
they take to make sure that their countries were run the right way, and what impact did they have
on decolonization? To fully understand these men and their actions, understanding what they
believed is key. The term nationalism describes both the attitude of someone that takes pride in their
nation and its identity, and the actions that are taken to ensure their country s autonomy (Miscevic).
Most people that have a nationalistic belief feel as though their country should be self sufficient and
maximize their resources. The term anti colonialism is used to describe an opposition to the term
colonialism, but you may wonder what does colonialism mean? Colonialism is a term that
describes the practice of domination (Kohn). This

The kernel maintains a list of free pages for each zone. Each zone has its own page allocator that
allocates and frees memory as needed. Mac OS X is a little different as compared to the older
MAC OS virtual memory. Similar to Windows OS, when Mac OS X needs memory it pushes
something currently not needed into a swap file for temporary storage (OSX Daily, 2010). The
swap file concept is also known as virtual memory. Mac OS X, because it is built on the UNIX
core, relies heavily on swap files and paging for general memory and cache management. Virtual
memory, also known as secondary memory or secondary storage, typically refers to hard disk
storage and is much slower than main memory. Advantages of virtual memory include; running
more than one application at a time, the ability to run larger programs with less RAM,
applications may launch faster because of file mapping, and the user does not have to buy more
main memory (RAM). Disadvantages of virtual memory include; applications run slower than if
loaded into main memory, increased time to switch between applications, less hard drive space
for the users use, and some may argue reduced system stability is inherent to virtual memory.
Linux s virtual memory system is responsible for the memory visible to each process. The
memory system creates virtual memory on demand and swaps pages in and out of main memory
to the disk as needed. Virtual memory is divided into regions called backing. Backing is

Meerkats
Meerkats: Standing Tall
Steven Fetherolf
Strayer University
Introduction
Standing tall, the small animal scans the sky for predators, his neck extended and head swiveling
side to side, ever diligent in the search for anything that may prove a threat to his group of fellow
meerkats. At his fullest height, he barely reaches 12 , the average of an adult male in his species.
What is this strange animal, looking similar to a mongoose or an elongated squirrel and sporting
black bandit markings around its eyes that are vaguely reminiscent of a raccoon? What does anyone
know of this incongruous, oft overlooked creature, whose comparable significance to more exotic
animals is virtually unknown? If you have watched the television channel ... Show more content on

This tolerance to venom ensures that the meerkat has little competition for its diet and further
allows them to maintain a steady, plentiful supply. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which
meerkats live, finding adequate water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is
dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make
use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily through its diet.
It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of
numerous entrance and exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having
hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several directions, which give them the ability to
escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may have well over fifteen
separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to
rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas)
overload, making living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have
reached a reasonable level, meerkats will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the
burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a safe place for relief of bodily functions.
It is extremely unsafe for a meerkat to exit the burrow at night to relieve themselves, so having a

Fall Of The Mayan Empire Essay
Fall of the Maya Empire
From the late eighth through the end of the ninth century, something unknown happened to shake
the Maya civilization to its foundations. One city after another, cities starting from the southern
lowlands to the Yucatan Peninsula were abandoned, and by 900 A.D., Maya civilization in that
region had collapsed. Countless scholars have combed through the Maya ruins for clues to help
drive their own theories to what caused this massive empire to vanish. The fall of the Maya empire
has been hypothesized to three main scenarios, exhaustion of resources, feuding city states and
rulers, and an extreme period of drought which contributed to the Maya demise.
Some believe that by the ninth century the Maya had exhausted the environment around them to
the point that it could no longer sustain an exponentially growing population. Other Maya scholars
argue that constant warfare among competing city states led the complicated military, family (by
marriage) and trade alliances between them led to the breakdown, along with the traditional system
of divine power. Finally, some catastrophic environmental climate change, like an extremely long,
intense period of drought, may have wiped out the Maya civilization. By the time the Spanish
explorers arrived, however, most Maya were living in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effects Of Advertisements On Society By Krina Modi
Summary:
Effects of Advertisements on Society, written by Krina Modi. The purpose of writing this essay
is to inform and debate the effects of advertisement on the society. The essay debates the impact
of ads on individual as well as the message they send to society of today. It also highlights the
fact that advertisements of today may have good effects as well as bad effects on the society and
the fact that the bad effects can over shadow the good ones. The author also gives a clear warning
signs about the dangers of advertisements.
One of the fascinating debates presented by the author was the fact that advertisements can be like
advice that can evaluate the nature and behavior of a certain society. In addition, she discussed how

materialism as an activity that s essential in everybody s life. The agreement in those two
arguments makes me as a reader doubts them for two reasons. First is manipulation takes a great
amount of effort to make it sound or appear convincing and not all firms have the financial
means to achieve that goal. Major corporation invest huge sums of money on ads to generate
profit but if consumers are the only victims how come no one figured a way to stop this endless
cycle? It s because consumers themselves are allowing this to continue, they want to consume
more. The society has reach the point of no return , our minds are only programmed to consume
not to create or stop , we just keep consuming infinite amounts and the only pocket feeling the burn

What Was The Role Of Confederation In Canada
Canada was rushed into Confederation way too soon and has had problems due to this. Although
through these past hundred fifty years, Canada has survived and is still going strong. Confederation
started on July 1st, 1867 when three British Colonies came together to become four provinces.
Although Canada went through Confederation, it is not a confederate association; it is a federal
state which is not the supposed meaning of Confederation. Canadahas evolved majorly since
Confederation back in 1867.
Before confederation, British North America was made up of many colonies controlled by Britain.

The idea of confederation had been around and mentioned for years. In September 1864, they

The European Domination Of Native Americans
Many prominent historians argue a clash between culture and religious philosophy was the primary
cause of conflict between European settlers in North America and Native Americans. However, a
closer analysis of American history suggests otherwise. While a clash in cultures and religious
differences did exist, the European domination of Native Americans was primarily fueled by
European economic motivations, a desire for valuable natural resources and a craving to expand the
American colonial system. Due to this, the conflict was inevitable. Before Europeans ever ventured
to North America, the land had been populated by Native American nations that had their own
distinct cultures and social structures. Native Americans had trade routes and established complex
relationships between tribes. They were not merely heathens waiting to be civilized by the
Europeans. Yet, Europeans would use those justifications to lay claim on their land. To better
understand the conflict between the Europeans and the Native Americans, one must closely
examine the state of Europe s economy at the time. Europe struggled with difficult conditions. This
included poverty, violence and diseases like typhus, smallpox, influenza and measles. There were
widespread famines which caused the prices of products to vary and made life very difficult in
Europe. Street crimes and violence were prevalent in cities: Other eruption of bizarre torture,
murder, and ritual cannibalism were not uncommon .2 Europeans

The Crimean War And Its Lack Of Modernization
The Crimean War was the war between Great Britain, French, and along with some other countries
against Russia. While Russia led by Nicholas I, entered to the Crimean War to defend Orthodox
Christian within the autocrat empire; French entered this war because they promoted the Catholics
Christian; Great Britain wanted to maintain the autocrat empire and maintain power (Aksakov and
Danielevsky, 378 389). It was an absolute humiliating when Russiadefeated the war. The Russian
military was outplayed because the British had much more sophisticated weapons, technology, and
supply line (Riasanovsky and Steinberg, 366). Many liberal, conservative, and Russian people
believed that the defeat of Russia in the Crimean Warwas evidence of Russia s economy and
material backwardness and fallen behind many European nations (lecture, 10/19). This led to the
forces of modernization .
Defeat in the Crimean War made Russia s lack of modernization clear. The first step toward
modernization was the emancipation of serfdom. Soon after the war end Nicholas I came to end
of his life. Alexander II was on the throne and the Great Reform period of Russia began. He first
issued the emancipation manifesto in 1861. Alexander II took steps to improve the condition of the
peasantry. But these steps were only partly successful, depending as they did on the goodwill and
voluntary action of landlords (Cracraft, 340). Therefore convinced that the task of improving the
condition of the peasants kind of

Banquet at Dunsinane
In Macbeth the scene of the banquet at Dunsinane shows the guilt of Macbeth, reveals to us the
extent of his madness and marks the suspicion of the Scottish lords. Macbeth shows the audience
the extent of his insanity, rouses suspicion from the Scottish lords and contributes to the
overarching theme of guilt. Macbeth s constant shouting at the apparition shows how far gone he

Historical Context Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
The author, Robert Louis Stevenson presents the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde in a unique and compelling way. Many aspects of the short story can be interpreted in
different ways as its complexity can overpower the book transient storyline. One aspect of the book
that can be considered controversial is the way Stevenson presents the novellaand the book s
historical context. Although, Stevenson s work can be considered engaging, it can also lead the
reader to question the reasoning behind the particular storyline of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde. Overall, in terms of historical context, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde is written in an allegorical way in which different aspects of the book represent a major
theme or event taking place in Victorian England. During the time period in which Stevenson wrote
this story, Victorian England was in a state of poverty and depression. Londonwas divided socially,
economically, and even politically as the nation was torn apart. In addition, due to the Anglo Irish
tension there were numerous terror attacks on London itself contributing to England s melancholy

The U.S. government is fully aware that mass killings and hate crimes are distant relatives and
close cousins to domestic terrorism, so in lieu of sponsoring a bill to reclassify the definition of
domestic terrorism, lawmakers like Texas Senator John Cornyn and North Carolina Representative
Richard Hudson sponsor bills such as the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H. R.
38) which will allow individuals with a license to conceal carry in one state permission to conceal
carry in every state, regardless of State s gun laws The U.S. continues to implement effective
initiatives and provide adequate resources for the war on international terrorism; whereas the threat
magnitude of international terrorism is miniscule in comparison to the number of mass shootings

Negative Consequences of Sterotyping

male or female. If added to that description was that they liked to dance and wore tight clothing,
one might lean more to the thought of the person being a female. If still nothing was said about
their gender, but it was also stated that the person was wearing a tight pair of shorts and a hot
pink crop top shirt that exposed their stomach, almost everyone would assume a female was
being described. However, if you were to drive down Archer, or 13th street in Gainesville Florida at

Of course, not all rich people are cold and not all poor people have big hearts, which is the case
with all stereotypes, not everyone actually falls into the group you may categorize them into. It is
thought that stereotypes are a set of group beliefs and that frequently those who socialize together
tend to share the same set of stereotypes. Stereotypes can serve as a cognitive function on an
interpersonal level, as well as a social function on an intergroup level. For stereotyping to work in
an intergroup situation an individual must see themselves as part of a group and being a part of the
group must be important to that individual. Craig McGarty, Russell Spears, and Vincent Y. Yzerbyt
(2002) argued that the cognitive functions of stereotyping are best understood in relation to its
social functions, and vice versa.
The next question to ask ourselves is, why do stereotypes form? If how stereotypes form stems
either from being a learned behavior or as a way for us to group information, why do they persist
even when we know better? Research has shown that stereotypes can develop based on a cognitive
mechanism known as illusory correlation, which is an erroneous inference about the relationship
between two events. If two events that are statistically infrequent occur at the same time observers
will overestimate the frequency at which these events occur together. Events

Patriarchy In The Han Dynasty
Patriarchy is a system that determines the hierarchy of men within a society and defines men as the
head of the household. Patriarchy provided men with family authority which acted as a model for
political authority. In ancient China, emperorship was passed on through hereditary principles
within a ruling familylineage or dynasty. The Han dynasty had adopted Confucianism as the state
ideology of Northern China, which implemented changes to the social order. Confucius believed
that everyone should be taught their role in society, but his teachings did little to help women learn
their roles. Ban Zhao, a female Chinese historian born in the first century to a famous family in the
Han dynasty, wrote Lessons for a Woman. Her work highlighted the importance of male authority
and women s perspectives of the patriarchal society that was influenced by Confucianism.

Justin s First Apology Analysis
1. Introduction
Second century philosopher, Justin Martyr grew up in Flavia Neapolis, Palestine, a city near the
ancient ruins of Shechem. The population of Shechem is thought to be of Samaritan descent, as
was Justin. However, he did not belong to an ethnic group associated with pagan theology. Instead,
Justin devoted his life to the pursuit of Christ by means of philosophy. Thus, Justin contributed to
Christian education through his understanding of the logos and his apologies.
2. Educational Background He mentioned being brought up in a Gentile culture, having a Greek
education, and being uncircumcised. Consequently, he remained unaware of Moses and the
prophets until later in life. Furthermore, he associated himself with the Gentiles, ... Show more

Many scholars have criticized the organization of Justin s First Apology, though, Justin and several
others used the apology as an apologetic tool or teaching material within catechetical schools. Thus,
the text could have been modified or rearranged to fit the specific needs of the academic context. In
fact, Minns and Parvis claim the text contains later glosses, and accidental transpositions of
material. However, despite the modifications made to the text, the Apology contains a logical
progression of thought. The Apology followed an ancient format used for speech: the exordium, or
introduction; the narratio, or statement of fact; the confirmatio, or proof of fact; the refutio, or
rebuttal against opposing views; and the peroratio, or conclusion. Many classic authors employ the
exordium to gain the favor of the recipient. However, Justin employed it to determine whether they
deserved their advantageous titles, pious and philosopher. Then, Justin employed the narratio to
give reasons for his treatise. Next, the confirmatio and refutio contain most the text. Justin
elaborates on the unreasonableness of Christian persecution on the mere basis of identifying with
the Christian faith. Continuing under the premise of Christianity s derelict nature, Justin argued for
Christianity s uniqueness in regards to monotheism. Furthermore, Justin argued for Christians being
good members of the community. Finally, after Justin s elaboration, he concluded his first apology
by claiming the validity of Christ s claims are proven by the fulfillment of his prophecies, and that
Christian s employed rational reasoning by worshipping Christ

The Productivity Of South Africa Essay
Productivity, defined as making the most of limited resources, is a paramount economic goal,
whereas labour productivity the contribution that labour makes to overall productivity is a central
force in the labour market.
It s is said that South Africa still faces major challenges to improve its competitiveness and ensure it
translates into improved national productivity.
Although growth slowed in the financial sector last year, it and agriculture were the only two
sectors in which labour productivity and output remained strong. But both sectors were
unpredictable, and needed to improve on business efficiency to mitigate costs. In agriculture,
forestry and fishing there was an increase in real output growth of 2.2% last year despite a 6.8%
decrease in labour productivity growth. A few sectors of the economy have performed well, with
the mining sector yielding a growth rate of 3.1% from minus 3.6%... but the positive growth rate
was not accompanied by an increase in labour input in the mining sector, which experienced a
decline of 3.1%, Productivity SA chief economist Keneuoe Mosoang said. He said the data showed
that of the 20 manufacturing sub sectors, seven demonstrated declining productivity indicators
(labour, capital and multifactor productivity). The sub sectors under most duress were leather, food
and rubber. (sanews, 2015)
Another area that needed urgent focus was the electricity, gas and water sector. It experienced
relatively lower growth in compensation of

Mnc Entering India (Vodafone)
When Cross Border Mergers or Acquisitions happen the participating organizations need to
understand the issue of differences in national cultural issues very well in order to set up a
successful Joint Venture (JV). Each country has a different national culture and this needs to be
recognized and addressed because it will ultimately impact upon the work culture of the fusion
organization they are newly going to form. Geert Hofstededeveloped a model which seeks to
understand how values in the work place are influenced by culture. He started this study by

Firstly it is bad if manufacturing would happen in India. No doubt Indians are known for group
orientation and not for individualism. Theoretically this should give us an advantage in labour
intensive industries. However experience shows that despite team power which group outlook
can provide we are known for poor productivity and not so much for cost saving compared to
China and other emerging Asian countries. Secondly our IDV scores do not matter if we are
looking at a sales team made of Indians. Naturally the Vodafone sales team in India should have
Indian salesmen since they understand the market better. Indians rather than foreign nationals
would also mean lower HR costs. And in the present situation the telecom market is buoyant and
demand in any case exceeds supply. Not much of concept selling needs to be done. An Indian
sales team would work fine. Thirdly if it is R D probably foreign nationals would serve better
with their individualism and drive. With low IDV score an Indian based in India while one may be
very intelligent may not show much drive or willingness to rock the boat since he respects tradition
and traditional values too much.
Masculinity (MAS): India s score is 56 versus (Global 51 and UK 61). Male chauvinism is lower in
India compared to UK. In overall terms this is good news for recruiters in Vodafone but it needs
to be taken with reference to the social context in India. However certain social issues like sex ratio

Too Much Power In George Orwell s 1984
There are some aspects that I think are most important to the book that connects to our everyday
lives. Power is the controlling of someone s actions by the government. Freedom is being able to
do what you want, how you want to do it. Privacy is having the ability to not have someone look
through your stuff without someone asking. These aspects connected more with the world because
people are going through difficulties with these things. Orwell s 1984 is relevant in the year 2016
because The United States government and the Oceania government are similar in their use of
freedom, restricted power, and privacy for the citizens. The Oceanian government and the United
States government use power to have control over what people say, do and think.... Show more

The only recognized purpose of the marriage was to beget children for the service of the Party
(Orwell 65). This explains that the only way for them to get married to one another is of they go
to the government and the government has to approve of it. This shows that the government has
power of their relationships. If the government don t like the relationship, then those people can
t be together. They had to have a purpose for getting married and the only real purpose was the
children they would make. The gay marriage paradox: Begging the government for a license to
marry isn t freedom; it s enslavement to Big Brother (Adams). On June 26, 2015, the United
States of America legalized gay marriage. You shouldn t have to knock on the door for you to get
freedom. Based on John Locke s idea, people should be inherited with natural rights and by
restricting gay marriage limits those rights. This shows that American and English societies are
based on the same thing. The government treats everybody the same when it comes to certain
things. When the government did this, they had the power to say who can marry who and what can
marry what. It s enslavement to Big

Julio CortГЎzar Push The Boundaries Of Reality And Reality
The concept of unreality can be defined as something that is unreal, invalid, imaginary, or illusory:
(Dictionary.com). At one time or another we have all fantasized about different things. However,
have any of us ever attempted to incorporate those fantasies into the real world? The following
paper will attempt to analyse how narratives of Julio CortГЎzar push the boundaries of reality and
unreality. This essay will focus on the works of CortГЎzar and will particularly focus on two of his
stories Las babas del diablo and Queremos tanto a Glenda. It will discuss how these narratives tests
the boundaries of unreality and reality and will analyse CortГЎzars ability to make his readers
question what is real and what is not. This essay will focus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It s fair to say that both narratives show how CortГЎzar tests the boundaries of unreality and reality.
However, CortГЎzar took alternative approaches in order to present this in the respective stories. In
the case of Las babas del diablo, CortГЎzar introduced a first and third person narration into the
story. The introduction of a third person narratorhighlighted the inner turmoil that Michel was
experiencing, thus forcing the reader to question his reliability as a narrator. As readers we were
unable to trust Michel s version of events yet, we were still unable to completely disregard it as it
was clear he had a traumatic experience in relation to the photograph. This is how CortГЎzar was
able to test the boundaries of unreality and reality, by leaving his readers in a state of utter
confusion. In a completely different, but equally effective way, CortГЎzar also expertly tested the
boundaries of unreality and reality in Queremos tanto a Glenda. Unlike Las babas del diablo there
was no clever use of two different narrations in order to confuse the reader. Instead CortГЎzar
presented us with a very real idea (an appreciation for a celebrity) and exaggerated it to massive
proportions. Although the events from Queremos tanto a Glenda seem unlikely to happen in the
real world, there is a

Literary Analysis Of Saki s The Interlopers
Saki, in The Interlopers, says that our animalistic human nature traps us in blindness, but when
we re raised in a kind civilization, we choose to use friendship as a freedom from our inner
violence. Humans as a whole, have an animalistic nature to them. Saki starts the story with one of
the main character going on a hunt. Saki states, [A] man stood one winter night watching and
listening, as though he waited for some beast of the woods to come within the range of his
vision, and, later, of his rifle (Saki 6). Ulrich is stalking the woods for as Saki stated beast of the
woods but rather he patrolled the dark forest in quest of a humanenemy. Saki goes on talking about
the feud that started with their grandfathers over a land... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, Saki says that we, as humans, have an animalistic nature. This animalistic nature
traps us in blindness. Saki has a theme of blood throughout the story. Saki states, [A] s boys they
had thirsted for one another s blood, (7). The dictionary has a word for this definition bloodlust.
As stated before, this is slightly ironic, being that the bloodlust was in boys; boys who are
supposed to be innocent and honorable. He continues with, Georg, who was nearly blinded with
the blood which trickled across his eyes (8). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary,
bloodlust is the desire to kill or maim others ; In order to kill things, you need to see them. Saki
goes on to stating, No, I can scarcely see anything; there is so much blood caked round my eyes,
said Georg, and in any case I don t drink wine with an enemy (9). This blindness is caused by the
bloodlust between the two souls, or in other words, they are being blinded by their animalistic
nature. Georg s animalistic human nature has blinded him in hatred, which has caused him to not
be able to see the similarities between him and Ulrich. This blindness leaves when we re raised in
a kind civilization. Saki starts the story with the two souls coming face to face with each other,
which is what they ve been wanting for a long time. Saki states, The two enemies stood

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Weapons
Nuclear weapons were thought to be able to the end war for mankind. But at the same time,
people who believe this don t realize the damage it causes to the many different lives that inhabit
this world. A nuclear weapon is a military weapon that was created to go to war and kill. It also
has been used as a protection to the nation or country from unknown people that isn t suppose to
be there in the first place( How Do Nuclear Weapons Work? 1). Nuclear weapons could never be
justified due to the destruction it has created over the past year and century. For example, due to
the nuclear weapons chemical fission in it, many organisms die, land brutally got destroyed and
made humans greedy for power.
Every single nuclear weapon works in different ways depending where they were made. But the
main way that a single nuclear weapon would work would be due to there being a nucleus in the
center of every atom ( How Do Nuclear Weapons Work? 2). Breaking that nucleus apart or
combining two nuclei together can release large amounts of energy (2). Nuclear weapons use
that energy to create an explosion (2). In other words, it would be used to kill enemies and bring
terror. Due to the explosive compressed nuclear material, causing fission; the fission releases
massive amounts of energy in the form of x rays, which create the high temperature and pressure
needed to ignite fusion (2). Meaning, for any nuclear weapon to work it would need fission to
generate an explosion (3). There are

Conformity In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
American actress Emma Stone once said, What sets you apart can sometimes feel like a burden
and it s not. And a lot of the time, it s what makes you great. . This quote could represent the
message conveyed in Kurt Vonnegut Jr. s dystopian story Harrison Bergeron . In his piece, he
creates the setting of the world in the year 2081, where everyone has become equal and nobody is
different. Whether it be strengths, talents, disabilities, or intelligence, everyone has become
identical to one another, except for the main character Harrison Bergeron, who was arrested and
taken away by the government at the age of fourteen for being a nonconformist. After breaking out
of prison, he shows the world what it is like to be unique, until he is, unfortunately,... Show more

When describing the like minded people and their actions throughout Harrison Bergeron ,
Vonnegut uses very elementary and short sentences. After discounting their son s death, George
and Hazel Bergeron continue with their mediocre and regulated lives, when George hears a
ringing obscurity in his ear. Hazel then responds to him, saying, Gee I could tell that one was a
doozy, said Hazel. You can say that again, said George. Gee said Hazel, I could tell that one was a
doozy. (Vonnegut 6). Vonnegut utilizes these short sentences to portray how simple everyone has
become in this dystopian future. Consequently, the civilians seem to have no diversity; however,
when construing Harrison Bergeron s actions and the actions of the nonconforming ballerinas, the
author uses more complex and more involved sentence lengths. In the story, Vonnegut describes
the ballerinas as they dance together with Harrison, stating, Harrison and his Empress merely
listened to the music for a while listened gravely, as though synchronizing their heartbeats with it.
They shifted their weights to their toes. Harrison placed his big hands on the girl s tiny waist,
letting her sense the weightlessness that would soon be hers. And then, in an explosion of joy and
grace, into the air they sprang! Not only were the laws of the land abandoned, but the law of
gravity and the laws of motion as well. They reeled, whirled, swiveled,

Contextual Theory Of Interethnic Communication Theory
The distinction of the differences or similarities between the communicator and conversational
partners can influence whether they chose to engage in association or dissociation. These
dissimilarities and resemblances help to shape our perceptions of each other. Through the analysis
of ethnic proximity, ethnic distance, shared goal structure, separate goal structure, and personal
network integration, the situation layerof Kim s Interethnic Theory will be explored.
A Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication As conceptualized by Young Yun Kim, the
interethnic communication theory describes the multifaceted layers and factors in communication
event. Described as an open system, interethnic communication occurs between communicators and
their interactant(s) who possess characteristic similarities or differences in terms of their ethnic or
identity markers (Kim, 2005). There are four layers to her theory: behavior, communicator,
situation, and environment. All of these layers contribute to how the communicator and their
interactant decides to interact, whether it is associative or dissociative. This paper will focus on the
situation layer. Implanted between the environment and communicator layer, the situation layer
represents the interethnic encounter itself (Kim, 2005, p. 334). Essentially, it is describing the
interaction between the communicator and their conversational partner(s). In this context, the
communication can take form in many ways (e.g., verbal,

Being A Successful Basketball Player
Being a Successful Basketball Player As a child growing up sports has been a part of my life.
There are many different sports that an athlete can play like basketball, baseball, and football.
Basketball is one of my favorite sports and is also one of the highly paid sports of all time. There
are three personality traits that make a successful basketballplayer. Those traits are determination,
leadership, and sportsmanship. Determination is one of the main keys in being a successful
basketball player. My definition of determination is someone who never gives up on anything in
life. Michael Jordanwas sick with the flu one night before a game. He still had determination to play
in the NBA game that night with the flu. Another example of determination is when Stephen
Curry was down three games in the NBA series, and he had determination to come back and win
the NBA title two years in a row. Stephen Curry showed true determination skills to never give and
to work hard for what he wanted in life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My definition of leadership is when someone takes over and guides another person. I showed
true leadership skills when I saw my teammate struggling at practice on a ball handling drill. I
stopped what I was doing to come over and help him handle the ball better. Another example of
leadership is when the Cleveland Cavaliers were losing at halftime in game six of the NBA finals.
LeBron James went into the locker room, and he had a talk with his teammates about never giving
up no matter what the score was. He showed great leadership skills in helping them win a title and
winning MVP that night of game

Caffeine Intermolecular Forces Lab Report
The partial charges throughout caffeine molecules create dipoles, which in turn affect the
intermolecular forces between caffeine molecules. Caffeine s polarity permits the formation of
dipole dipole interactions between two caffeine molecules. The partial positive end of one caffeine
molecule will be attracted to the partial negative end of another caffeinemolecule, creating a
relatively strong intermolecular force. The strength of this force will increase sublimation and
melting points and decrease volatility because more energy will be required to overcome the
dipole dipole forces. Because solutes dissolve in solvents with similar intermolecular forces,
caffeine s polarity allows the molecule to be soluble in polar solvents. The dipole dipole... Show

Various countries consumed caffeine containing plants as a source of energy in the past, while still
being unaware that the compound within the plants was causing the stimulating effects. In 1819,
Friedlieb Runge discovered and isolated caffeine, which gave rise to the production of new caffeine
containing products. Most individuals today consume caffeine in the form of coffee because of its
ability to decrease fatigue and drowsiness. Although caffeine is soluble in water at room
temperature, the molecules will not completely dissolve; therefore, coffee is made with hot water
to dissolve a greater quantity of the caffeine molecules. Caffeine produces its stimulating effect by
interfering with adenosine, a chemical in the nervous system that releases signals to notify the body
when sleep is needed. Adenosine is a by product of brain function and it will accumulate in the body
throughout the day. Eventually adenosine levels will reach a maximum, causing adenosine to start
binding to receptor sites to notify the brain to slow down cellular activity. Caffeine and adenosine
are both alkaloids (organic compounds composed of many nitrogen atoms) with similar shapes, ring
structures and covalent bonds, which allows caffeine to bind to adenosine receptors. Caffeine will
occupy all adenosine receptor sites, causing the brain to maintain cellular activity and not induce

Functional Family Dynamic Analysis

If a worker at a business suddenly suffers an injury they aren t forced to work through the pain. It
is unethical to hold someone ill to the same standards they were held to before. If someone in
my family breaks a bone, or has the flu, they aren t expected to perform independently. Members
of the family are obligated to help as much as needed to make sure the injured and/or ill recover
and receive the necessary care. If a child is never taught socialization they are neglected. In
extreme cases feral children may never establish the ability to speak. Growing up with four older
stepsisters I learned to prioritize verbal communication for self expression. I had them to look up to
and learn from. In an institution like elementary school a child has peers and an authority figure
that rewards good behavior. I also had this environment at home. Power is equally split between my
mother and father in an egalitarian relationship. As the youngest, I have always had the least
amount of authority (and also the least responsibility). An example of this hierarchy would be an
diarchy government (possibly borderline totalitarian) where two leaders rule as counterparts. An

Antigone by Sophocles
In the playwright Antigone by Sophocles, the characters reveal their values while exposing a life
lessons through their actions, dialogue, thoughts ,and effects on others. Antigone starts with two
brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices, being killed at battle. Creon, the king of Thebes, declares that
Eteocles death will be honored and Polyneices dishonored. He instead will lay unburied to become
the food of animals. When the play opens, Antigonetakes Ismene, Antigone and Ismene are sisters
of the dead brothers, outside the city to tell Ismene about her plan to bury her brother despite Creons
proclamation. Ismene refuses to help her, fearing her own death, however she cannot impede
Antigone from continuing with her plan. Antigone defies the law, buries her brother, and is
caught. When Creon locks her away in prison, she kills herself. Meanwhile, Creon finds out about
her death and out of despair, Creon s son and wife have by then also killed themselves. After all,
Creon is left in distress and sorrow. Antigone s family values and loyalty are revealed by her
consistent actions throughout the play while exposing an essential moral message about life.
The law impedes Antigone from burying her brother, yet despite possibly facing death, she refused
to not go. Those specific actions demonstrate her passionate side in regards to her family. Antigone
would face anything to honor her brothers death, I will bury the brother I love , she declares to her

  • 2. Squatter By Thomas King Summary The idea of a home is a broad one that has very different ways of responding to it. This is the way of thinking that to writers use in their short stories. For the writers, the way they view home is one of identity and culture. While these two themes are positive the writers show how they get people in trouble with law and day to day life. In the short story borders by Thomas King, the concept of home is illustrated on the focuses on the nationality and identity of a person rather than the place they call home. The viewpoint of the home creates a diverse idea in which a home is not where one lives but who the view themselves as. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Welfare Did you know that 56 billion animals are slaughtered each year? People believe that farmers are abusing and causing stress on the animals. Farmers use confined feeding operations to maximize the production. By having the confined feeding operations, it gives the animals no room to graze. When they can t graze, it restricts the animal to move or to exercise ( On The Farm). The animalsare not given any pain relief during certain practices like castration or dehorning. Animal welfareis not needed in the farming aspect, because the animals are meant for food. In the 1970 s, animal welfarist got together and tried to sue farmers for being cruel and harming animals. The government created the right to farm laws. That law protected farmers rights when farming. Twelve states banned certain farm practices because they were believed to be inhumane. Those bans include, gestation crates for sows, veal crates for calves, and battery cages for chickens. All those states that banned the practices were small in the ag field. The farmers are saying that they are not hurting animals, they are protecting them. People that live in cities or that don t experience the farm work will say it is inhumane. Farmers are trying to make changes to stop these regulations. State Farm Bureaus are trying backing up the farmers. The regulations could ruin the agricultural business (Fifield). Farmers use the most efficient methods which lower the prices for the consumer. The other people would say that the most efficient way goes against the animal s welfare. When using the high welfare methods it raises the price of eggs by 18% which is about 49 cents per dozen. Walmart and McDonalds will be using only cage free eggs by 2025. That will increase the price of the eggs. They cages and crates are said to be safe and sanitary ways for egg production. Makes the price of food increase because the farmer can t have as many animals because it requires too much space to be humane (Fifield). Gestation crates are the safest way for a sow to give birth. Gestation crates are inhumane for the sows. They can only stand or lie down. And they are in the crate for up to 4 months without walking. Going 4 months without walking will cause stress on the ... • 5. The s Reading Process Theory Through The Text Of Mrs... Yadav Dr. Nidhi Vats M.A. English (Final) Decoding Wolfgang Iser‟s Reading Process Theory through the Text of Mrs Dalloway and Bravely Fought the Queen In the 1960s, the new criticism theory in the American Literary arena focused on the reading of a literary text as an independent form and not to be studied in relation to any context. This gave birth to another theory that began majorly in 1960s and 1970s known as reader response criticism, which also tried to do away with the author‟s role and focused on the reader‟s perception that defined the text‟s subjectivity. In his work The Reading Process A Phenomenological Approach , Wolfgang Iserdescribes about the reading of a literary work or text as an interaction between the reader and the author. In order to understand a text in a better way and to explore its meaning, Louise Rosenblatt in his work Literature as Exploration described how the readers should be free from any preconceived notions about the proper way to react to any work (Lewis,C.S.,1961) to experience any work or text individually. Similarly, Iser also want the readers to make a niche for themselves while the aesthetic reading of a wok or a text. Wolfgang Iser‟s reading in reference to two works, namely, Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf and Bravely Fought the Queen by Mahesh Dattani has been assessed in order to have a better understanding and a practical approach in exploration or understanding the meaning of the texts. The data that I am obtaining, will come from me observing my dog. Within this study, I am hoping to decrease my dog s bad behaviors such as tearing up my personal belongings which could vary from shoes to destroying furniture. The subject is a one year old male Australian Shepherd mixed with Dachshund. He has a unique color scheme consisting of mainly black and white with a hint of brown. Considering the variety of colors found in his coat, I created the name, Storm. I live in an apartment complex, therefore the subject is an inside dog and only goes out to use the restroom. Another way to assist in helping him understand good vs. bad behavior, is to commend him with words, which would be like saying good boy or actions such as patting him, when he is chewing on one of his own toys. (quote) However, when he starts to chew on one of my items, I will tell him no and then lead him to his crate. His parents were James Madison Sr. And Eleanor Rose Conway. Rose, his mother lived to be ninety eight years old. In 1762 at the age of 11 he was sent to a boarding school in King and Queen county, Virginia. Madison was the fourth president of the United States of America from 1809 to 1817 . During his tenure as the latter, he declared war on Great Britain, leading to the war of 1812. Madison represented Virginia during the Constitutional convention in 1787, and his proposal of the so called Virginia plan. It became part of the present American constitution, leading to the nickname Father of the Constitution . Madison was one of the key figures behind the Embargo act of 1807,which only had little impact on Britain and France, but ultimately caused the United States economy to sink into a severe depression. And in spite of his lack of success with the Embargo ,Madison was elected president in 1808. Madison was involved in the Virginia Convention in 1829, however he felt that the quality of the attendees was below par and refused to be further involved in any other capacity. His influence over young minds was felt in the hallways where he instructed several of the attendees on how all of their views should be formed. In Marry Shelly s Frankenstein, perception plays a key part in the monsters icy demise. Not only is the story affected by how the villagers perceive the monster, but the readers perception, like in any literary work, plays the role of ultimate judge. Most responses to Frankenstein are derived directly from pop culture. The green dude with bolts, right? or Oh yeah... I love Frankenberry cereal! Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the creature were to be asked questions such as Who are you? What are you? Where do you come from? he would be hard pressed for an answer. However, there are certain subtle clues in the text to point to the Creature possibly being of the Mongolian/Asian race using the th Century descriptions of man. UCLA professor Anne K. Mellor points to the Creature s Mongolian race by noting that at the beginning of the novel, Walton and his men have set off on their voyage to China by way of the North Pole. Mary Shelley describes this newborn giant as having yellow skin, black and flowing hair, the dun white or light grey brown of both irises of his eyes and sockets. The Creature is definitely not Caucasian, nor is he the same race as his maker. Even the character known as Walton notices the difference in appearance between Victor and the traveller preceding him, as he notes Victor was not as the other traveller seemed to be, a savage inhabitant of some undisclosed island, but an European. • 10. The Qualities Of An Anglo Saxon Hero Bravery. Honor. Intelligence. Loyalty. Sense of Duty. Selflessness. Sense of Justice. Strength. Boasting. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxon heroes display some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them as a hero. Much like Batman and Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon heroes protect the public against evil foes, or perhaps Villains. They act courageously and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also, they possess an overwhelming sense of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are loyal to those they serve, whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind, the character of Beowulfcan clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all, Beowulf is the pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing them one by one , is clearly the bravest man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before he slayed Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of the bravest men in the word. Then, while battling the three beasts we witness in Beowulf, he further shows his bravery by killing Grendel with nothing but the strength in his fingers. After that, he swims down through ... The Requirements That Sports And Outdoor Wear Question 1 (a)Analyse the requirements that sports and outdoor wear would have to meet in order to be effective if worn in NZ in a range of environments eg skiing in the Southern Alps during winter, tramping the Southern Alps in summer, running in summer/winter, as urban wear in cities. (8 marks) New Zealand is known to be the land of extremes. Extremes, not only in terms of travel and adventures but as well as the climate. Having one of the severest UV rays in the world, unpredictable weather conditions, and variable temperatures all over the country, New Zealand is truly a land of extremes. Therefore, clothing in New Zealand are required to withstand no matter what season, weather condition, and time of the year it is. New Zealand s climate can only be described in one word: unpredictable. Though mostly it has cool to warm temperature, it has microclimates, which is a local atmospheric zone where the climate is different from the surrounding area, owing to its varied topography, and mountain ranges. It has rainfall which is evenly distributed throughout the year in most parts of the country but such is still dependent on the area s topography as some land area are considered to have borderline oceanic climate or a climate that is intermediate between desert and humid. Tuberculosis infection is frequently an initial indication of HIV infection. Therefore, it is routine to test patients with TB for HIV. Also, the patient complains of being run down and sick all of the time, which could be a sign that his immune system is impaired. The presence of any other opportunistic infections or malignancies may also be indicative of HIV. Opportunistic infections occur when typically harmless microorganisms are able to cause disease in individuals who are immunocompromised. Common opportunistic infections in HIV positive patients include: Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia, candidiasis, toxoplasmosis, diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium parvum, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) caused by the JC virus, and many others. Kaposi sarcoma, an opportunistic malignancy, is a major indicator of HIV infection. This cancer occurs only in individuals who are severely immunocompromised and manifests as lesions on the skin and mucous membranes. Mr. A s statement reflects the need for further education about HIV transmission. The nurse should inform Mr. A that HIV is primarily spread through unprotected sexual intercourse and by sharing contaminated needles for intravenous drug use. • 13. Comparison Of Gestures In France And America 1.Greetings When you meet a new person in France, the polite thing to do would be to shake their hand, say hello, and introduce yourself to everyone in the room if you had just arrived. If you were greeting a close friend of family member you would then kiss them once on each cheek (3 kisses in South France). Friends address each other with their first names in an informal manner like many young people do. Adults tend to be more conservative and formal and tend to be un expressive in front of people they don t know well. Some inappropriate conversation topics would be anything having to do with: age, income, occupation, family, asking how much something costs, asking where something was purchased, talking loudly, chewing gum, and calling attention to oneself. 2.Gestures Body language such as hand gestures and facial expressions is very important while talking to the French (especially in the South). Exaggerated expressions and movements help convey the reality of a story or explanation. Gestures in France and America are quite similar. Shrugging your shoulders means that you don t know or you don t care. Putting up both of your hands with your palms up illustrates helplessness or anger. Comparing Frantz Fanon And Mahatma Gandhi Danielle Patton Final Paper History 1500 to Present December 4th, 2014 When you look back through time at the history of decolonization, there are many names that come to mind, but two that should be focused on are Frantz Fanon and Mahatma Gandhi. Both of these men were strong advocates for anti colonialism and nationalism. Their attitudes can be described by this quote from Frantz Fanon who said, what matters is not to know the world but to change it. They may have been active during different times in history, but they both took action to see that the countries they represented were run in an anti colonialistic and nationalistic way. A few questions that may arise though is why did both of these men feel so strongly, what actions did they take to make sure that their countries were run the right way, and what impact did they have on decolonization? To fully understand these men and their actions, understanding what they believed is key. The term nationalism describes both the attitude of someone that takes pride in their nation and its identity, and the actions that are taken to ensure their country s autonomy (Miscevic). Most people that have a nationalistic belief feel as though their country should be self sufficient and maximize their resources. The term anti colonialism is used to describe an opposition to the term colonialism, but you may wonder what does colonialism mean? Colonialism is a term that describes the practice of domination (Kohn). This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mac OS X is a little different as compared to the older MAC OS virtual memory. Similar to Windows OS, when Mac OS X needs memory it pushes something currently not needed into a swap file for temporary storage (OSX Daily, 2010). The swap file concept is also known as virtual memory. Mac OS X, because it is built on the UNIX core, relies heavily on swap files and paging for general memory and cache management. Virtual memory, also known as secondary memory or secondary storage, typically refers to hard disk storage and is much slower than main memory. Advantages of virtual memory include; running more than one application at a time, the ability to run larger programs with less RAM, applications may launch faster because of file mapping, and the user does not have to buy more main memory (RAM). Disadvantages of virtual memory include; applications run slower than if loaded into main memory, increased time to switch between applications, less hard drive space for the users use, and some may argue reduced system stability is inherent to virtual memory. Linux s virtual memory system is responsible for the memory visible to each process. The memory system creates virtual memory on demand and swaps pages in and out of main memory to the disk as needed. Virtual memory is divided into regions called backing. Backing is ... At his fullest height, he barely reaches 12 , the average of an adult male in his species. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which meerkats live, finding adequate water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily through its diet. It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of numerous entrance and exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several directions, which give them the ability to escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may have well over fifteen separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas) overload, making living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have reached a reasonable level, meerkats will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a safe place for relief of bodily functions. It is extremely unsafe for a meerkat to exit the burrow at night to relieve themselves, so having a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One city after another, cities starting from the southern lowlands to the Yucatan Peninsula were abandoned, and by 900 A.D., Maya civilization in that region had collapsed. Countless scholars have combed through the Maya ruins for clues to help drive their own theories to what caused this massive empire to vanish. The fall of the Maya empire has been hypothesized to three main scenarios, exhaustion of resources, feuding city states and rulers, and an extreme period of drought which contributed to the Maya demise. Some believe that by the ninth century the Maya had exhausted the environment around them to the point that it could no longer sustain an exponentially growing population. Other Maya scholars argue that constant warfare among competing city states led the complicated military, family (by marriage) and trade alliances between them led to the breakdown, along with the traditional system of divine power. Finally, some catastrophic environmental climate change, like an extremely long, intense period of drought, may have wiped out the Maya civilization. The agreement in those two arguments makes me as a reader doubts them for two reasons. Major corporation invest huge sums of money on ads to generate profit but if consumers are the only victims how come no one figured a way to stop this endless cycle? It s because consumers themselves are allowing this to continue, they want to consume more. The society has reach the point of no return , our minds are only programmed to consume not to create or stop , we just keep consuming infinite amounts and the only pocket feeling the burn is the pocket of those less fortunate. Materialism is something that been brought on us as a curse, but for advertisements its gift that keeps on giving. • 25. The European Domination Of Native Americans Many prominent historians argue a clash between culture and religious philosophy was the primary cause of conflict between European settlers in North America and Native Americans. However, a closer analysis of American history suggests otherwise. While a clash in cultures and religious differences did exist, the European domination of Native Americans was primarily fueled by European economic motivations, a desire for valuable natural resources and a craving to expand the American colonial system. Due to this, the conflict was inevitable. Before Europeans ever ventured to North America, the land had been populated by Native American nations that had their own distinct cultures and social structures. Native Americans had trade routes and established complex relationships between tribes. They were not merely heathens waiting to be civilized by the Europeans. Yet, Europeans would use those justifications to lay claim on their land. To better understand the conflict between the Europeans and the Native Americans, one must closely examine the state of Europe s economy at the time. Europe struggled with difficult conditions. While Russia led by Nicholas I, entered to the Crimean War to defend Orthodox Christian within the autocrat empire; French entered this war because they promoted the Catholics Christian; Great Britain wanted to maintain the autocrat empire and maintain power (Aksakov and Danielevsky, 378 389). It was an absolute humiliating when Russiadefeated the war. The Russian military was outplayed because the British had much more sophisticated weapons, technology, and supply line (Riasanovsky and Steinberg, 366). Many liberal, conservative, and Russian people believed that the defeat of Russia in the Crimean Warwas evidence of Russia s economy and material backwardness and fallen behind many European nations (lecture, 10/19). Banquet At Dunsinane Banquet at Dunsinane In Macbeth the scene of the banquet at Dunsinane shows the guilt of Macbeth, reveals to us the extent of his madness and marks the suspicion of the Scottish lords. Macbeth shows the audience the extent of his insanity, rouses suspicion from the Scottish lords and contributes to the overarching theme of guilt. Macbeth s constant shouting at the apparition shows how far gone he is. It marks his lack of self control in the face of his guilt, his fear of being discovered and refusal to come to terms with what he has done. Likewise the lords see this outburst and are clued into Macbeth s usurping of power by his blaming of others, he makes himself suspicious and tells them of his murdering Banquo. Macbeth s quilt here develops a theme of guilt in the play Macbeth shows the Scottish lords that he has bodies in his closet by the way he speaks making reference to haunting spirits, trying to shift the blame of his actions onto others and by referencing the murders he has made. A stencil font was chosen as the website is for booking and finding out about airsoft (a sport like paintball but using plastic pellets instead of paintballs) and therefore this font gave the site a military esque feel relating back to the military theme. The next consideration to deal with was colour scheme originally a black and brick red colour scheme was chosen but later seeing the site using this scheme it was deemed too dark, I, therefore, opted for an off white and red colour scheme as this lifted the page ... • 32. Historical Context Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde The author, Robert Louis Stevenson presents the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in a unique and compelling way. Many aspects of the short story can be interpreted in different ways as its complexity can overpower the book transient storyline. One aspect of the book that can be considered controversial is the way Stevenson presents the novellaand the book s historical context. Although, Stevenson s work can be considered engaging, it can also lead the reader to question the reasoning behind the particular storyline of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Overall, in terms of historical context, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is written in an allegorical way in which different aspects of the book represent a major theme or event taking place in Victorian England. During the time period in which Stevenson wrote this story, Victorian England was in a state of poverty and depression. Londonwas divided socially, economically, and even politically as the nation was torn apart. In addition, due to the Anglo Irish tension there were numerous terror attacks on London itself contributing to England s melancholy nature. A community profile is used to assess the health and social needs of a local population and is used as a means of obtaining accurate and appropriate information on which to base priorities when spending budgets. It is thought that stereotypes are a set of group beliefs and that frequently those who socialize together tend to share the same set of stereotypes. Stereotypes can serve as a cognitive function on an interpersonal level, as well as a social function on an intergroup level. For stereotyping to work in an intergroup situation an individual must see themselves as part of a group and being a part of the group must be important to that individual. Craig McGarty, Russell Spears, and Vincent Y. Yzerbyt (2002) argued that the cognitive functions of stereotyping are best understood in relation to its social functions, and vice versa. The next question to ask ourselves is, why do stereotypes form? If how stereotypes form stems either from being a learned behavior or as a way for us to group information, why do they persist even when we know better? Research has shown that stereotypes can develop based on a cognitive mechanism known as illusory correlation, which is an erroneous inference about the relationship between two events. If two events that are statistically infrequent occur at the same time observers will overestimate the frequency at which these events occur together. Events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patriarchy provided men with family authority which acted as a model for political authority. In ancient China, emperorship was passed on through hereditary principles within a ruling familylineage or dynasty. The Han dynasty had adopted Confucianism as the state ideology of Northern China, which implemented changes to the social order. Confucius believed that everyone should be taught their role in society, but his teachings did little to help women learn their roles. Ban Zhao, a female Chinese historian born in the first century to a famous family in the Han dynasty, wrote Lessons for a Woman. Her work highlighted the importance of male authority and women s perspectives of the patriarchal society that was influenced by Confucianism. Many scholars have criticized the organization of Justin s First Apology, though, Justin and several others used the apology as an apologetic tool or teaching material within catechetical schools. Thus, the text could have been modified or rearranged to fit the specific needs of the academic context. In fact, Minns and Parvis claim the text contains later glosses, and accidental transpositions of material. However, despite the modifications made to the text, the Apology contains a logical progression of thought. The Apology followed an ancient format used for speech: the exordium, or introduction; the narratio, or statement of fact; the confirmatio, or proof of fact; the refutio, or rebuttal against opposing views; and the peroratio, or conclusion. Many classic authors employ the exordium to gain the favor of the recipient. However, Justin employed it to determine whether they deserved their advantageous titles, pious and philosopher. Then, Justin employed the narratio to give reasons for his treatise. Next, the confirmatio and refutio contain most the text. Justin elaborates on the unreasonableness of Christian persecution on the mere basis of identifying with the Christian faith. Continuing under the premise of Christianity s derelict nature, Justin argued for Christianity s uniqueness in regards to monotheism. Furthermore, Justin argued for Christians being good members of the community. Finally, after Justin s elaboration, he concluded his first apology by claiming the validity of Christ s claims are proven by the fulfillment of his prophecies, and that Christian s employed rational reasoning by worshipping Christ ... However, CortГЎzar took alternative approaches in order to present this in the respective stories. In the case of Las babas del diablo, CortГЎzar introduced a first and third person narration into the story. The introduction of a third person narratorhighlighted the inner turmoil that Michel was experiencing, thus forcing the reader to question his reliability as a narrator. As readers we were unable to trust Michel s version of events yet, we were still unable to completely disregard it as it was clear he had a traumatic experience in relation to the photograph. This is how CortГЎzar was able to test the boundaries of unreality and reality, by leaving his readers in a state of utter confusion. In a completely different, but equally effective way, CortГЎzar also expertly tested the boundaries of unreality and reality in Queremos tanto a Glenda. • 50. Being A Successful Basketball Player Being a Successful Basketball Player As a child growing up sports has been a part of my life. There are many different sports that an athlete can play like basketball, baseball, and football. Basketball is one of my favorite sports and is also one of the highly paid sports of all time. There are three personality traits that make a successful basketballplayer. Those traits are determination, leadership, and sportsmanship. Determination is one of the main keys in being a successful basketball player. My definition of determination is someone who never gives up on anything in life. Michael Jordanwas sick with the flu one night before a game. He still had determination to play in the NBA game that night with the flu. Another example of determination is when Stephen Curry was down three games in the NBA series, and he had determination to come back and win the NBA title two years in a row. Stephen Curry showed true determination skills to never give and to work hard for what he wanted in life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My definition of leadership is when someone takes over and guides another person. I showed true leadership skills when I saw my teammate struggling at practice on a ball handling drill. I stopped what I was doing to come over and help him handle the ball better. Another example of leadership is when the Cleveland Cavaliers were losing at halftime in game six of the NBA finals. LeBron James went into the locker room, and he had a talk with his teammates about never giving up no matter what the score was. He showed great leadership skills in helping them win a title and winning MVP that night of game ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Caffeine Intermolecular Forces Lab Report The partial charges throughout caffeine molecules create dipoles, which in turn affect the intermolecular forces between caffeine molecules. Caffeine s polarity permits the formation of dipole dipole interactions between two caffeine molecules. The partial positive end of one caffeine molecule will be attracted to the partial negative end of another caffeinemolecule, creating a relatively strong intermolecular force. The strength of this force will increase sublimation and melting points and decrease volatility because more energy will be required to overcome the dipole dipole forces. Because solutes dissolve in solvents with similar intermolecular forces, caffeine s polarity allows the molecule to be soluble in polar solvents. The dipole dipole... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various countries consumed caffeine containing plants as a source of energy in the past, while still being unaware that the compound within the plants was causing the stimulating effects. In 1819, Friedlieb Runge discovered and isolated caffeine, which gave rise to the production of new caffeine containing products. Most individuals today consume caffeine in the form of coffee because of its ability to decrease fatigue and drowsiness. Although caffeine is soluble in water at room temperature, the molecules will not completely dissolve; therefore, coffee is made with hot water to dissolve a greater quantity of the caffeine molecules. Caffeine produces its stimulating effect by interfering with adenosine, a chemical in the nervous system that releases signals to notify the body when sleep is needed. Adenosine is a by product of brain function and it will accumulate in the body throughout the day. Eventually adenosine levels will reach a maximum, causing adenosine to start binding to receptor sites to notify the brain to slow down cellular activity. Caffeine and adenosine are both alkaloids (organic compounds composed of many nitrogen atoms) with similar shapes, ring structures and covalent bonds, which allows caffeine to bind to adenosine receptors. Caffeine will occupy all adenosine receptor sites, causing the brain to maintain cellular activity and not induce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Functional Family Dynamic Analysis To form a functional family dynamic a household must provide all six main components of the Vanier Institute of the Family. If one of these areas is lacking or missing the entire system will break down and weaken the relationship between family members. It s important to analyze each aspect in correlation to the familyhousehold to get a better view of the strengths and weaknesses as a group and form a stronger bond with relatives. My motherand father both had two daughters each from a previous marriagebefore conceiving me. I am their only child together, and the only child still living at home. Only one of my sisters has gone on to start her own family (on my dad s side) by having two daughters. If I choose to have children I will sincerely... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a worker at a business suddenly suffers an injury they aren t forced to work through the pain. It is unethical to hold someone ill to the same standards they were held to before. If someone in my family breaks a bone, or has the flu, they aren t expected to perform independently. Members of the family are obligated to help as much as needed to make sure the injured and/or ill recover and receive the necessary care. If a child is never taught socialization they are neglected. In extreme cases feral children may never establish the ability to speak. Growing up with four older stepsisters I learned to prioritize verbal communication for self expression. I had them to look up to and learn from. In an institution like elementary school a child has peers and an authority figure that rewards good behavior. I also had this environment at home. Power is equally split between my mother and father in an egalitarian relationship. As the youngest, I have always had the least amount of authority (and also the least responsibility). An example of this hierarchy would be an diarchy government (possibly borderline totalitarian) where two leaders rule as counterparts. An institution where control is held between two figures represents my household ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
