A Report On The Cruise Sector Essay
The study in this report will confirm that the cruise sector is an important part of the tourism
industry in New Zealand. The sector creates significant inflows of foreign expenditure which
impacts positively on the New Zealand economy.
The level of activity within the sector has grown rapidly in the past decade and is expected to
continue growing, although at a more subdued level. The pace and scale of growth has caused
concerns to be raised about the ability of New Zealand to capitalise on this influx currently and in
the long term, as there are issues around capacity in some essential services for the sector.
Introduction:
In New Zealand cruising is the fastest growing tourism sector and has huge potential, because of the
country s popularity as a destination skyrocketing and increase in the tourist attraction. The
numbers of passengers have growing by more than 250 percent in last five years. As the industry
grows in New Zealand it constantly stimulates new activity and initiatives. Many ports around the
country are improving their facilities to handle cruise ships. There has been a commensurate
increase in international flights with passengers either joining or leaving a cruise ship in New
Zealand. There is also now a dedicated cadet training programme in New Zealand, which allows
navigation and engineering officer graduates to move directly into cruise related employment. In
addition, cruise lines are visiting hospitality schools and technical

Hi I M Alfie Research Paper
Hi, I m Alfie. I m looking for a loving forever home that will stick with me through the good and
bad. I love spending most of my day indoors in the company of men, women, and possibly even
older children, where I can pretty much chill out and lounge around. I am prone to alert bark, and
I may have a subtle protective streak in me. However once I know that the stranger is okay around
my familymy friendly side shines through. I m a very curious guy and am interested in all that
goes on around me and I miss very little. In my previous home I was an inside dog, so as a result, I
am completely housetrained. Even though, I love spending most of my time indoors, I would
really like it if my next home had a big back yard where I could spend a few

Charles Eames Psychology
Although I am familiar with the Eames name and especially their contributions to chair design, I
admittedly did not know the Eames were so engrained in American history beyond their
contributions to the chair.
The one thing that really stands out to me as the main reason for their success is specifically
Charles Eames insatiable desire to learn, and further, the incorporation of his artistic and
architectural visions to produce novel ideas and projects to epitomize Gardner s great man/woman
definition of creativity. It would be naГЇve to dismiss the idea that revenue was also most likely a
motivating factor, but the revenue as depicted in the documentary was specifically a means to
financial ends; a source of income for truly revolutionary work. I think ultimately, no matter the
amount of revenue, unless someone is inherently motivated, Gardner s great man/woman definition
cannot be fulfilled due to the almost magical power that innate motivation, interest, drive, and work
ethic have on individuals who are heralded in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From both of the accounts, it seemed that regardless of what was going on around them, they both
had a continuous, unrelenting thought process regarding things they were passionate about. As
Einstein eloquently stated, I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious. In my opinion,
although Einstein understated his legendary scientific acumen (the same acumen that makes his
name synonymous with genius), the quote reinforces the idea that Einstein s curiosity was most
instrumental in his success. It would make sense, considering both are posthumously esteemed
members of academia for their theories and providing revolutionary food for thought. Eames
seemed to have this same desire where it seems he was always trying to think or learn simply out of
his love for

X By Lois Gould Summary
Society has exaggerated that the way a man or woman acts is the way they have to be or else
they are not normal. The general stereotypes for women include they don t play sports, supposed
to cook and do housework, not as strong as men. The general stereotypes for men include work in
the science and engineering field, must be obeyed because they are always in charge, always on
top. In the short story X by Lois Gould, the author shows us that genderis not so important when a
child chooses to express him/herself in whichever way they want to. Although society wants an
individual to act a specific way, it shouldn t define their way of life, whatever makes the individual
happy they should continue to do it without having others judging them.... Show more content on

Children s choices/attitudes towards a subject are developed by their parents teachings in that
area. Parents influence their kids opinion in what field they choose to go into, if they have a boy
they most likely would tell him to go into some engineering or medical field (doctor), and if it s
a girl they would tell her to go into a teaching or nursing field, because this is apparently based on
society expectations and it s really bad if they don t follow what their genders are good at. If his
/her parents tell them what to become or how to behave, they will most likely listen because
their parents are more experienced and know what s best for them. Unless the boy or girl don t
try new things in life, as in don t try different sports, jobs, activities they won t know what they
are most strongest in. Most boys and girls are limited to specific fields because of what they re
parents opinions about them are. The way their parents raised their sons/daughters is also a
factor when they choose their jobs. In the story, X s parents raised him/her in a way where he
/she wouldn t be limited to specific ways of life. He/she got to experience both norms for girls
and norms for boys and he/she had twice as much fun when no one focused on gender or the way
he/she displayed

Photography Techniques
The article The Life of Carlos, an Undocumented New Yorker exposes the dehumanizing
atmosphere Honduras reveals to its population at a young age, causing many teenagers, such as
Carlos, to be in search of a new life in the United States while losing their innocence along the
journey to survive. When Carlos arrives to the United States, he is quickly thrown into an adult
detention center, but then temporarily released to be with his U.S. citizen Grandmother.
Alexandra Starr s about Carlo s journey is coupled with Edward Keating s photographs of him.
Starr s writing focuses on the story of Carlos which vividly includes many situations an average
person will never experience in their lifetime, except Carlos experienced this all before the... Show

Two powerful examples of Keating s work that help unify the meaning of the work as a whole are
the second and last photos. In the second photo the photographer employs cropping so that Carlos
is the only one in the photograph with the soccer ball. The cropping of the photo makes it clear that
Carlos is supposed to be the only one in the foreground with an unfocused background. Capturing
Carlos as the subject focus playing soccer, Keating shows that despite his experiences mentioned
in Starr s writing, he is still normal as he expresses his love of the common game of soccer. The last
picture uses gaze and cropping to make Carlos the subject focus as well. The photographer
strategically cropped the photo so the buildings are split evenly on the sides Carlos as he walks
down the middle without any other people in the shot. The gaze presented in the photo shows
Carlos looking straight ahead with a high head, which affirms his ability to keep moving forward
in life, despite his setbacks. Although both works utilize different strategies to express the subject
focus of Carlos, coupling both Starr and Keating s versions of Carlos communicates overcoming
the idea that struggles and hardship often lead to a true appreciation of living

Analysis Of The Arch Of Constantine
The Arch of Constantine
The Arch of Constantine is located along the Via Triumphalis in Rome, situated between both the
Colosseum and the Temple of Venus and Roma. Along the width of the arch, there are three arches
with partially engaged Corinthian columns. The arch is about 20 meters high, 25 meters wide, and
7 meters deep. At the central opening, it is almost 12 meters high, with identical inscribed marble
panels above, one on each side, that read:
To the Emperor Caesar Flavius Constantinus, the Greatest, pious, fortunate, the Senate and people
of Rome, by inspiration of divinity and his own great mind with his righteous arms on both the
tyrant and his faction in one instant in rightful battle he avenged the republic, dedicated this arch as
a memorial to his military victory
The most amazing features of the Arch are the relief sculptures. Many of the sculptures are
standard roman art, like the Nike figures above the central archway. Other elements show a
multiplicity of styles. In fact, many of the sculptures of the arch were reused building stone or
sculptures taken away from older monuments dating around the 2nd century C.E. The origins of the
sculptures, with their imperial style, are resembled to those of the reigns of Trajan, Hadrian, and
Marcus Aurelius. Most of the reliefs feature the emperors participating in activities that demonstrate
their authority and piety by addressing troops and defeating enemies.
There are artistic works of the structure that also date

Winslow Homer s Impact On Society
Winslow Homer is regarded by many as the greatest American painter of the nineteenth century
whose mastery in direct observation of his subject matter was considered the most powerful and
expressive during his time. Born in Boston and largely self taught, Homer began his career as an
illustrator. Perhaps no other American artist during this time was as accomplished in diverse
mediums, such as lithography, engraving, oil painting, and watercolors. Early in his career he was
recognized for his artistic talents, and his fondness for narrative and drama that led to
employment with Harper s Weekly. He was a careful observer of visual realism, and he paid
attention to the purely physical properties of pigment and color, of line and form and the patterns...

This form of entertainment consisted of whites in blackface for the purpose of playing the role of
blacks as lazy with exaggerated features. This controversial portrayal of blacks before the Civil
War contributed to the propagation of stereotypes that not only played a significant role in the
perception of blacks, but it created lasting racist images and attitudes about the black culture. In the
years that followed the Civil War, political and social readjustments captured the thoughts of most
Americans. Homer s employment with Harper s Weekly, was to reflect these realignments. His
portrayal of blacks were not necessarily the typical minstrel show conception , however, blacks
were portrayed dramatically humorous or comical, if not rendered purposely in Harper s. Maybe
Homer could have lapsed into the stereotypes of blacks but his attitude in rendering them in normal,
everyday settings was more realistic than his contemporaries. It indicates his artistic ability in
transcending, both a theoretical and prevalent mindset of the black

Slavery Is The Key For Achieving Freedom
In today s society, we take many things for granted because they come easy to us. Education, in
many of our lives, is something that is dreaded, something that we do only because we have to.
But 200 years ago, things were much different. Slavery unfortunately existed in our society, and
slaves weren t granted the gift of education. By not having an education, they were not able to
completely understand their situation, and therefore unable to get out of it. Slaves had a limited
option in achieving freedom, and in order to do so, they had to become educated, enough to be able
to understand slavery, and they had to be religious to be able to see through the hypocrisy of the
religious slaveholders.
For slaves, education is the key to achieving freedom. It develops one s sense of curiosity, and
allows the mind to question things, and to develop it s own ideas and opinions. For slaves, the
gift of education was rare, but if one was lucky enough to have it, they began to see the true
nature of slavery, and it made them more likely to try and become free. When Frederick
Douglass was a young boy, he befriended a few white children who gave him a glimpse of what
having an education is like. When remembering this important time in his life, he says, With their
kindly aid, at different times and different places, I finally succeeded in learning to read (66 67).
The young boys gave Douglass a book, called the Columbian Orator, the first book he had ever laid
hands on. This

Teagle 170 P.3d 266 (Ariz. Ct. App. 2007), defendant Teagle was pulled over after being
observed speeding down the highway. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed two
cellular phones on the dashboard, an open container of liquor, fast food wrappers, a box of
cookies, a map, and luggage and clothing in the backseat. The officer gave the defendant a
warning and then asked him if there was any contraband in the vehicle or whether there was a
chance anyone else could have placed any contraband in the vehicle. Although the defendant
answered in the negative, the officer returned to his patrol vehicle and asked if there was a canine
unit available. There was not and so the officer told the defendant that he was free to leave.
Shortly afterwards, the officer saw the defendant speeding once again down the road. The officer
proceeded to pull him over and gave him another warning. The officer again asked him if he could
search the vehicle and the defendant answered in the affirmative. The officer called a canine unit
which arrived an hour later. The canine, in proceeding to do an exterior sniff, circled around to the
trunk. The officers then opened the trunk to find 338 pounds of marijuana, a can of air freshener
under the driver s seat and several toilet bowl sanitizers in the compartment ofthe vehicle as well as
the trunk. These were all indicative of an attempt to mask the smell of marijuana. At trial, the
defendant argued that he had taken his vehicle to a repair shop, implying that someone else had
placed the drugs in the car. The court found that there was enough evidence, including the large
amount of drugs in the trunk of the vehicle, the air freshener, and the inconsistent statements to
determine that the defendant had sufficient knowledge of the marijuana in the

My Papa s Waltz Denotation
My Papa s Waltz By theodore Roethke uses a cacophonous diction that creates a distinct
comparison between connotation and denotation. In the first stanza; he states, But i hung on
like death. This was towards the beginning of the poem that may give off an idea to the reader
that the son s life was in danger and as if he was being abused. The denotation of the line is that
he s just hanging on tightly to his father due to the fact that his father is woozy due to all the
whiskey. Also, Roethke says, You beat time on my head, that builds off the idea of abuse. It
makes it seem as if he s consistently being abused by his father. He s Just dancing with his son to
the beat of the music. The diction he uses like death and beat associate

Maria Montessori Key Lessons Essay
The Great Key Lessons and Key lessons. Maria Montessori believed that in presenting the whole
universe to the child in their early years, they would be given the courage to act many questions
about what the universe holds. This believed that this would help a child to become more aware of
what surrounds them and curious of what does not. Montessori separated the universeinto five
major sections and many minor ones to help introduce them to the child. Each story had the truths
of the universe as we have been thought them but also leave the child in awe and wonder to try and
comprehend these facts with their meaning. In the first story, the child is shown the universe as a
whole in stages. As the stories go on, they go into further detail bring... Show more content on

Naturally, a child will automatically become interested in a topic which is led by another. Interest
spreads to all, for all are linked and have their place in the universe on which the mind is centred.
The stars, earth, stones, life of all kinds form a whole in relation with each other, and so close is
this relation that we cannot understand a stone without some understanding of the great sun.
No matter what we touch, an atom, or a cell, we cannot explain it without the knowledge of the
wide universe. Some agree that the material in the curriculum should be force fed to a child and
others feel that it should be. Maria Montessori was deeply religious, and brought many of her
beliefs into the Great Lessons. These lessons came about back when religious beliefs were an
accepted, natural part of everyday life which also includes the school environment. Things are
different today, and if you are teaching at a school, you ll probably want to stick to a factual
account of the beginning of the universe (see the end of this post for some resources); if you re at
home, you can feel free to tailor the lesson to your own family s religious

Controversial Aspects of Decommissioning the Edwards Dam
Controversial Aspects of Decommissioning the Edwards Dam In 1991 the Edwards
Manufacturing Company, owner of the Edwards Dam on the Kennebec River in Augusta, ME,
applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a renewal of their license to
operate a privately owned hydroelectric dam. Their application was denied; Edwards
Manufacturing Company was required to come up with a plan for the enacting and financing of
decommissioning the dam, as well as the restoration of the river. This was the first time in history
that the federal government ordered a privately owned hydroelectric dam destroyed against the
wishes of the owner. Numerous factors were involved which eventually led to this decision, namely

There are a number of environmental advantages that would occur upon decommissioning the
Edwards Dam, most notably the rejuvenation of fish populations and the resulting increase in
numbers of the osprey and bald eagles which feed upon them. Historically, the Kennebec River
provided extensive top quality breeding grounds for all ten species of anadromous fish native to the
northeastern U.S., a distinction that the Kennebec River alone could boast of. Anadromous fish
make their home in the ocean but embark upon the tough journey upstream once a year to lay their
eggs. Since the erection of the Edwards Dam in 1837, and the subsequent construction of more than
a hundred dams upstream of the Edwards, these fish have been effectively blocked off from prime
spawning grounds. The removal of the dam would open up fifteen miles of these grounds,
seventeen miles total before encountering the next obstruction, making this the longest
uninterrupted stretch of high quality breeding grounds north of the Hudson River (Howe,1998).
The possibility of freeing such a considerable amount of breeding grounds had conservationists up
in arms over the matter of renewing the operation license of the Edwards Manufacturing

Parallels Between Mrs Dalloway and The Hours
The ongoing relationship between the literary movements of modernism and post modernism is
encompassed by the intertextual relationships between Stephen Daldry s The Hours and Virginia
Woolf s Mrs Dalloway . These relationships communicate the inadequacy of previous writings to
convey trauma, cultural crisis and the deep fragmentation within their respective societies. The
immediate context of these social dialogues creates a clear division between each text, however
the intertextual similarities between minor and major characters create an effective parallel to
traverse decades, years, months and days. This is in order to assess the lasting impacts of society
on an individual s desire to escape either physically or metaphorically.... Show more content on

The coffee was very slow ... until Mr Whitbread had finished ... Hugh was so very slow the
agonising sense of immediacy both draws our attention back to clock time whilst allowing us to
delve into Clarissa s past as she recalls that Hugh is always so absurdly slow. As reality is blurred
in psychological time, external time punctuates the novel There! Out it boomed. First a warning,
musical, then the hour, irrevocable this reminds the reader that this story is in fact occurring in a
single day and every event experienced outside of this timeframe is a figment of a characters
memory. Woolf makes these memories the focus of the novel rather than external time to create a
mobile reality where she fabricates the sense of movement by traversing time through the
consciousness of her characters. These memories therefore are from a specific point of view and
therefore exclude some properties of the remembered moment and parts of said reality may simply
be dissolved in the air as the memory fades with ongoing time.
Daldry approaches Woolf s tunnelling technique with sensitivity and subtlety in order to unify
Virginia, Laura and Clarissa. The repetitive musical score by Philip Glass creates a sense of the
cyclical nature of time and is evocative of the relentlessness of time. This too creates an illusion of
both time and timelessness as the regular rhythm simulates that of a clock as

Total Words in this Document:
Title: Can I Use a Garbage Disposal if I Have a Septic System?
Millions of homeowners around the country are using septic, rather than sewer systems. Whether
their septic system was a choice, or was a necessity due to lack of a shared sewer system, septic
systems provide significant advantages for many who appreciate the environmentally friendly
design, durability, and lower costs.
Septic systems that have been properly installed maintained should last between 20 and 40 years;
many, though, last significantly longer. Regular cleanings, pumpings, and care are necessities for
keeping your septic system running properly. It s also important to make sure that you monitor

A garbage disposal is used to grind food scraps into tiny pieces, making is easier to dispose of and
process the waste. When you have a septic system, the pieces of food are flushed down the drain,
into your system.
Just as you should avoid sending other solids down the septic system, the garbage disposal poses a
problem when homeowners try to process and dispose of non biodegradable food items, like food
packaging items, or even hard to break down foods, like bones, fruit pits, coffee grounds, or oil and
grease.
These items add up in septic tank, and as the sludge accumulates, it takes away from the full
capacity of the tank. Ideally, the bacteria and treatments will help to break down the components
that are causing the sludge, but as the larger, heavier pieces sink to the bottom more quickly, the

The act of being habitually and carefully neat and clean can make for an interesting topic in a

personalities between Sloppy people and neat people. Both essays compare cleanliness in one way
or another however they both have differences regarding their use of humor, examples, and points

The way Barry and Britt support their points in their compare and contrast essays differ. In Batting
Clean Up and Striking Out, Barry uses lots of personal stories and factual happenings to explain
his opinions. For example, to explain how men are worse at cleaning Barry specifically refers to a
volcano eruption that happened in Pompei because the men, who were in control of the cleaning,
did not notice ashes piling up around and in their houses. In addition, when describing how men
are better with sports than woman he refers to a personal story; specifically a story about a
dinner party that he attended where the men were glued to the World Series and the women were
still chatting amongst themselves. These forms of examples are personal stories that offer validity.
On the other hand, in Britt s Neat people vs. Sloppy people she uses more dreamt up incidences to
explain her opinions. For example when explaining how neat people are viscous with their mail she
explains, All ads, catalogs, pleas for charitable contributions, church bulletins, and money saving
coupons go straight into the trash can without being opened...No sentimental salvaging of birthday
cards or the last letter a dying relative ever wrote. Into the trash it goes (256). As seen in this
example, Britt uses lots of lists and possible incidents that could exist to support her points, but do

Freud s Theory Of The Oedipus Complex By Sigmund Freud
INTRODUCTION
Oedipus Complex
The Oedipus complex otherwise called mother fixation is a mental inclination of a man. This
term is used by Sigmund Freud as a part of his hypothesis of Psychosexual Stages of Development
to depict a kid s emotions of yearning for his mother and jealousy and outrage towards his father.
Basically, a kid feels like he is in rivalry with his father for possession of his mother. He sees his

Lawrence portrays Mrs Morel s turning to her children particularly to Paul as an exceptionally
unpredictable and uncommon procedure. Lawrence alongside portraying the unpredictable and
abnormal connection also finds numerous unusual factors behind this bizarre connection. Among
all the factors, the most well known one is Mrs. Morel s moving her fascination or desire from
spouse to child which was the result of the bizarre relation or mismatch between her spouse in
regards to character, family status, training, keenness and so on. While she is an exceedingly
religious lady, her spouse is hard lush, her refined way additionally negates with his profanity. The

Zen Tradition Essay
Zen Tradition
The forefather of Madhyamika Buddhism was Nagarjuna. T.P. Kasulis writes in his book, Zen
Action, Zen Person that Nagarjuna was a predecessor to the development of Zen Buddhism.
Nagarjuna is regarded though as a patriarch of the Zen tradition. He was the affecting principle to
demonstrate logically the emptiness , or rather sunyata of philosophical distinctions. Kasulis also
explores Nagarjuna s Logic of Emptiness. The Buddhist claimed that to be concerned with
speculative questions is like being concerned with the origin of a poisoned arrow while it is still in
one s flesh, contaminating the bloodstream. Kasulis writes that a conflicting group supposed that
nothing at all continued from the cause into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what Nagarjuna was saying was that these distinctions that the Abhidharma Buddhist believed in
eventually lead to absurdities that cannot be escaped from. Kasulis focuses on two of Nagarjuna s
points or rather critiques against the Abhidharma; time and causality. Nagarjuna s critique on time
can be seen as a good introduction to his methodology. Nagarjuna argues four points against time.
The first critique is that if the existence of the present and future depends upon the past, then
present and future should be in the past (Kasulis). An example from my life to help illustrate
this point would be driving. The past is when I was 16 years old and I got my driver s license.
The present is me currently driving and the future is that I will have a wreck. If the present
(driving) and the future (my wreck) depends on the past (my obtaining my drivers license), then
my being able to drive (present), and my having a wreck (future) should be in the past.
Nagarjuna s second critique against time is that if present and future was not in the past, how could
present and future is dependent upon the past? It can be illustrated this way. If my driving (present)
and my having a wreck (future) are not in the past then how could my driving (present) and my
having a wreck (future) are dependent upon my obtaining my license?

FIU Athletic Case Study
For any athletic program during any sporting event, a brawl breaking out between the two
opposing teams could be considered an undesirable situation. During a game between the Florida
International University Golden Panthers and the Miami Hurricanes, that very thing happened and
severe punishments were handed down by both programs to those involved. On October 14, 2016,
a game between these two cross town rivals took place, and there was trash talk and penalties
throughout the game. All of these penalties and trash talk led to a brawl that took place after a
touchdown catch by running back James Bryant. According to Susan Miller Degnan, Barry

FIU Athletics will provide student athletes with the opportunity to pursue a quality education in one

environment (p.15). Had this sentence not been a part of their mission statement prior to this event,
it would have made for a perfect addition to their mission statement after the brawl occurred. Every
student athlete involved in this brawl should have received a rougher punishment than what was
handed down to them. It is unclear what Florida International s mission statement was prior to this
incident, however, based upon their current mission statement those athletes would receive the
harsh punishment they deserve. Based upon what the Florida International University Athletic
Department s mission statement currently states, those athletes involved in this brawl should have
not just received a dismissal from the team, but a dismissal from the school as well. Those athletes
who do not deserve the scholarships they are handed and embarrass the institution they are

Ford Motor Company s First Experimental Car
INTRODUCTION
A. Corporate Background
Ford Motor Company, American automotive corporation founded in 1903 by Henry Ford and 11
associate investors. Henry Ford built his first experimental car (Quadricycle) in a workshop
behind his home in Detroit in 1896. After formation of the Ford Motor Company, the first Ford
car (model A) was assembled in July 1903. By October 1 of the same year, Ford Motor Company
turned profit of $37,000. Five years later, in 1908, the highly successful Model T was
introduced. Demand for this car was so great that Ford developed new mass production methods
in order to manufacture it in sufficient quantities. In 1913, he introduced the world s first
moving assembly line for cars; and in 1914, to further improve labor productivity, he introduced
the $5 daily wage for an eight hour day (replacing $2.34 for a nine hour day). In 1919, the
company was reincorporated, with Ford, his wife, Clara, and his son, Edsel, acquiring full
ownership. They, their heirs, and the Ford Foundation (formed 1936) were sole stockholders until
January 1956, when public sale of the common stock was first offered.
The company s first international sales branch opened in Paris in 1908. By mid 1914 there were
more than 500,000 Model Ts on the roads of the world; by 1923 the company was producing more
than half of America s automobiles; and, by the end of the 1920s, Ford had more than 20 overseas
assembly plants in Europe, Latin America, Canada, Asia, South Africa, and Australia.

Cardiovascular Disease In Women Essay
Introduction The topic I will explore is heart disease in women. The question, what do
healthcare providers need to know about cardiovascular disease in women and how their
symptoms and presentation differ from men will be discussed. Coronary heart disease is the
leading cause of death in women and men in the Western world. Nearly 1 million cardiovascular
related deaths a year are women. Many women s risk factors go unrecognized and untreated by
their primary care physician (Pregler et al., 2009). According to FamilyDoctor.org, American
women are 4 to 6 times more likely to die of heartdisease that of breast cancer (2009). In generally

disease and death in both women and men (2008). This article states 37 percent of men and 27

Crimmins research addresses the many differences in men with coronary artery disease compared to
women with coronary artery disease. The study noted that men have a higher mortality rate
from heart disease than do women (Crimmins et al., 2008). This article also notes that 40 50
percent of postmenopausal women will develop heart disease (Crimmins et al., 2008).
Crimmins and colleges noted men develop heart disease 5 to 10 years earlier in life than do
women ( 2008). Evidence suggests that women who are hospitalized for cardiovascular issues
are less likely to receive certain types of drugs and diagnostic and treatment procedures
(Crimmins et al., 2008). Low socio economic status and poor educational levels also have a
marked effect on men and women s knowledge of cardiovascular disease and the timing of when
they seek treatment (Hemingway, 2007). Crimmins and colleges in their study results noted, on
average, the onset for heart disease in men is around 50 to 70 years of age and 73 years of age for
women (Crimmins et al., 2008). There is also marked evidence that many women s symptoms go

The Evil Side Of Good And Evil
The transformation also has a clear cut transcendental value, depending on moral grounds elevates
it on a higher, more spiritual and metaphorical level through its Manichean qualification and its
religious stakes with the comparison with the concept of conversion. Here is presented a
Manichaean (from Manichaeism) view of the world, Dr Jekyll and Hyde are here opposed on the
spectrum of good and evil. This is demonstrated by the abundance of the qualifier evil for Hyde:
sold a slave to my original evil , was pure evil , my evil or one was wholly evil . Although, the
opposition is also made clear as it is: The evil side of my nature (...) was less robust and less

This extract exploits this question on a literary level, through the literal dual personae of Jekyll

Victorian context. As soon as he drank the potion he felt physically different: I was suddenly

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gregory Crewdson s Natural Wonder
Gregory Crewdson s untitled photograph from the series Natural Wonder presents an eerie close
up of a scene taking place in the woods. The attention of the audience is brought to a small fox
who lies on its back, dead. Surrounding the fox are an abundance of overgrown grape vines.
Perched atop the fox are three birds who stare questioningly at the site around them. Behind the
copious amount of leaves and grapes is a somewhat cheerful looking, whitebackground containing
buildings and smoke, a noticeable difference from the forest scene which is more apparent to the
audience. Through his placement of objects, use of color, and change of scenery, Crewdson
expresses the negative effects of industrialization on wildlife. Crewdson uses placement of
objects by making the dead fox the central theme of this photograph to delve into the feelings of
the audience. Because foxes are animals with great knowledge of the woods, it would be unlikely
for them to suddenly die while in their natural habitat. This leads the audience to wonder what
might have happened to cause the fox s death which can be symbolized by the birds above the fox
who seem to be wondering the same thing. Although birds symbolize freedom, they are staying
behind to witness the destruction of the land around them. Crewdson also places the leaves and
overgrown grapevines of the photograph in an unorderly way. This shows that the forest is not
being taken care of causing the loss of this fox. The audience feels

The Transition Of Energy Systems
The energy systems seen in the present day are vastly different from those seen in the past two
decades amid the ongoing transition of energy systems. The issue of climate change and the
alarmingly high levels of Global Greenhouse Gas (GCG) emissions have meant there has been a
transition in energy systems as countries worldwide continuingly proceed into a post carbon
world. Developing energy systems of the future is one of the central challenges to policy makers,
a challenge which is complex and multifaceted (Miller et al 2013:135) as large scale shifts in the
use of fuels and energy technologies have often underpinned broad social and geographical change
(Jiusto 2009:537). The aim of this essay is to investigate how the transition... Show more content on

In areas of the global South energy transition suggests a substantial increase in availability and
affordability of energy (Bradshaw 2010), whereas in the Western world energy transition is

such as those in the UK of an 80 per cent reduction in COв‚‚ by 2050 (Foxon et al 2008).
There are various reasons as to why the energy transition to a low carbon system and use of
renewable sources of energy are contemporary. The first of which is the worryingly high amounts
of GCG emissions in the atmosphere, caused by a multitude of things such as population growth,
demand for energy supply in conjunction with the inefficient use of energy, which is chiefly
satisfied by the use of fossil fuels and also economic and industrial expansion. The need to reduce
such emissions is ever important as if carbon dioxide emissions from the use of fossil fuel
continue to rise at current levels it will cause the average global temperature to rise by 5В°C or
more over the next 100 years (IPCC 2007). Another reason is the dwindling supply of fossil fuels
available, Roberts (2004) suggesting there is a looming crisis ahead despite it being argued by
some global governments that supplies of fossil fuels were ample to meet world

Should The Driving Age Be Raised To 18
On a daily basis, millions of teenagers around the United States use driving as their main source of
transportation. Many teens are interested in being able to drive at a younger age, even after
obtaining a driving permit, but it is unclear if they are able to handle such a monumental task. The
driver s license age requirement should be increased to the age of 18. Increasing the age
requirement might not benefit the teens that need reliable transportation to go to their workplace

I think win/lose way to often, it demonstrates my selfishness that is influencing me. It generated
a negative emotional bank account by my sister. I think win/lose, especially with my sister; I
believe I made her think lose/win to get it over with. She doesn t think that way just with me,
but also with other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have
realized that, I am trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get

Columbus Day Pros And Cons
In modern day society, we often overlook key points in history. For example, Columbus Day, why
do we celebrate it? Well, from one s point of view, we celebrate this holiday for several reasons,
one of these reasons are because it recalls Christopher Columbus entry to the Americas on October
12, 1492. This occasion is questionable on the grounds that the European settlement in the Americas
prompted the downfall of the history and culture, of the indigenous people groups. What are
some of the pros and cons from naming Columbus Day to Indigenous Day? That is what you will
learn in this essay. To start off, Indigenous People s Day, or Columbus Day, Which do you prefer?
First off, why is it called Columbus Day ? Well, as stated earlier, it was named after Christopher
Columbus, who as we believe today, discovered America. Many believe that it was him who
founded the Americas, but really there could ve been earlier settlers or even Native Americans
who lived on those territories before Columbus made his way there. What is a pro of having this
day named after Columbus? A source I found called www.scholastic.com stated, The holiday
honoring Christopher Columbus s sighting of America on October 12, 1492, is observed in the
states of the United Statesand also in parts of Canada, in Puerto Rico, and in some cities in Italy
and Spain. Although Columbus was not the first explorer to set foot in the Western Hemisphere,
his landing at San Salvador Island in what is now the Bahamas was very important. It opened the
way for the settlement of America by Europeans. So, basically we named this holiday after
Columbus because it was assumed that he was one of the first to see and discover the Americas.
Another source titled www.osia.org stated Columbus Day celebrates the beginning of cultural
exchange between America and Europe. After Columbus, came millions of European immigrants
who brought their art, music, science, medicine, philosophy and religious principles to America.
From one s point of view, it may look like Columbus did many great things that led to the
development of America. But no one really knows what was at stake because of Columbus
decisions. A con relating to the naming of Columbus Day is in a

Tone, By Richard Lovelace
Tone is a device used by authors in order to evoke emotions in their audience. The tone can be
anything but it greatly effects how the reader receives the message of the piece. For example I
analyzed two different poems, both with the same subject but with very different tones. The way I
received each poem was very different. The first, by Richard Lovelacetitled To Lucastahad a
passionate tone while the second poem by Wilfred Owen titled Dulce et Decorum Esthad a cynical
tone. The tones of these poems were created using similar literary devices but their results were
very different.
While short, Richard Lovelace says much through the tone in his 17th century poem To Lucasta.
At first glance the poem seems very organized with 3 stanzas each with 4 lines. Every other line
rhymes, which gives the audience a feel of playfulness and whimsy. One would assume that the
message of the poem would also be just as organized. However, the speaker seems to be battling
with feelings of regret and excitement. The overall tone of this poem seems to be apologetic yet
passionate. The speaker is apologetic about his decision to go to war but also seems to be
passionate and enticed by the thoughts of his new adventure. Lovelace uses imagery and figure
of speech to create this tone by depicting his life before the war and his life during the war as two
different women. He begins his poem with tell me not, Sweet, I am unkind, which conveys to the
reader whom the speaker is talking to

Behind the Art Essay
Behind the Art
What is art? By definition it is, An occupation requiring knowledge or skill (Merriam). Many
people would argue that late artist Jackson Pollock s work would not go under this category. But
Pollock s paintings were not random splats and splashes, but carefully planned and expertly
executed works of art.
In order to understand Pollock s work, it s important that you know a little about him. Jackson
Pollock was born in Wyoming in 1912. His family moved around the southwest before settling in
Los Angeles. At age 18 he dropped out of high school and moved to New York, where he struggled

From 1938 to 1942 Pollock worked for the Federal Art Project, and by the mid 1940 s he was
painting in a completely abstract manner (Moore).
In 1944 Jackson met and married Lee Krasner, also an abstract impressionist of great influence in
the 20th century. In 1947 Pollock abruptly started working in what he is now famous for, his drip
and splash method. He continued painting throughout the early 1950 s (Landau 22).
Jackson was most well known for his drip paintings, which were created in a very unheard of and
unusual way. He attached his canvases to the floor, dancing around them and attacking them from

Pollock most often stood over the work slinging paint with sticks, trowels, or knives. This would
later earn him the name, Jack the Dripper (Lehrer). He would also embed things onto his painting
surface, such as sand, broken glass, nails, pebbles, string, and other foreign matter. This gave it

Radioactive Fission Research Paper
In late December in 1938, a chemist going by the name of Otto Hahn discovered radioactive
fission between the element Uranium. He had started off by causing impact between it and causing
a Uranium atom to split into two. When that happened it was known as a process called fission, a
topic known little about in 1930 s. When a radioactive element such as Uraniumenters the process
of fission it splits the atom causing a specified amount of energy to foil out. Just the split of one
atom during their experiment caused an entire grain of sand to jump in the air. Imagine what 50
pounds of that could do, let alone 100! Well this is what they did with 500 pounds of it.
Quickly as the violent information of this amazing experiment had spread around, a scientist
named Robert Oppenheimer had declared That s impossible, The U Business is unbelievable,
Like most scientists, Oppenheimer was excited as this meant some new possibilities to come
forth. Not ever having a single thought of making weapons of mass destruction, he now realized
this could be very dangerous if put in the wrong hands. Even faster now the news had spread all
the way to Germany making this news even more dangerous as to the fact that Hitler was in the
middle of making history, and starting the process of elimination of ... Show more content on

The Problem Of Racial Profiling
Twists of Humanity
Has one ever sit down and thought about the use of racial profiling in our country today? Many
individuals have a role in racial profiling and do not realize it. Racial profiling is using one s race
or ethnicity against them as a foundation of suspecting someone to committing an offense of
some sort. For example, racial profilers could say that Pit Bulls are more likely to bite than any
other breeds of dogs, and to keep this from happening, all Pit Bulls should be euthanized. Of
course, like all breeds of dogs, some Pit Bulls may bite, but not all of them deserve the punishment
of being euthanized. The main problem with racial profiling is that innocent individuals are targeted
due to past cases with their race. This leads to 36 year old Shoshana Hebshi, who is half Jewish and
half Arab. She was targeted on a plane in Detroit due to her race. Although Shoshana Hebshi was
targeted through racial profiling, the use of iron triangles saved Shoshana from unlawful
accusations.
On September 11, 2011, Shoshana Hebshi was travelling on the Frontier Airlines that landed in
Detroit when her and two Indian American men were targeted by federal agents who entered the
plane and demanded them to exit. Shoshana was handcuffed, pushed down steps, and into a
vehicle (Warikoo, 2013). Shoshana was later retained in a cell, ordered to strip bare, squat, and
cough while the officers checked her over (Warikoo, 2013). Hebshi stated, I was frightened and

family can be defined as a group of people living under the same house: household, a group of

Cultural Aspects Of Female Empowerment In The Disney Movie...
In the Disney movie, Moana, the main character demonstrates her personal strength as a woman
capable of determining her own future. Moana breaks the typical Disney mold of a princess
being associated with a prince as the main character. Moana realizes she has the sole power
within herself to take the lead role to save her village by returning the Heart of Te Fiti. The Heart
of Te Fiti is what gives the world and most importantly her people s island life. When the Heart of
Te Fiti was stolen by demi god Maui the world fell to darkness and the island began to deteriorate.
The pop culture aspect of female empowermentis exemplified in the scene where Moana is visited
by her deceased grandmother, Gramma Tala, after a moment of self doubt about being able to
return the Heart of Te Fiti in order to save her people and island. In the scene Gramma Tala is
deceased but visits Moana in the form of a vision. Moana envisions her people sailing the sea and
her father upon one of the ships. Moana was struggling with finding her inner self and utilizes her
visit from Gramma Tala, to acknowledge her self power. In the movie Moana, the I am Moana
scene exemplifies the current cultural theme of female empowerment being actualized when the
main character, Moana realizes her own inner strength after understanding her cultural heritage,
receiving inspiration from her grandmother, and embracing her role in building her future.
To begin, a key aspect of female empowerment visible in the

Comparison Of Ethos And Pathos In Advertising
In today s age, advertisements are found in almost every situation. These advertisements are found
in a multitude of different places, including places such as billboards, newspapers, and on the
television. Advertisements are most successful if they incorporate ethos, pathos, and logos into the
message they are trying to present. Ethos is the credibility of an advertisement, pathosis the
emotional appealof an advertisement, and logos is the logic found in the advertisement. This paper
will show the similarities and differences in pathos, logos, and ethos found in two separate
Budweiser advertisements.
Ethos, pathos, and logos are all rhetorical appeals, meaning that they are used to assist the speaker
or writer in harnessing rhetoric. Clark (2016) considers rhetoric as a tool meant for persuasion as
well as for creating effective arguments. Rhetoric became extremely popular during the golden age
of Greece, and most elite young men in Greek city states such as Athens were trained to utilize
rhetoric to their fullest abilities (Clark, 2016). Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher, believed that
rhetoricians those who used rhetoric to influence and sway opinions used rhetoric irresponsibly
(Clark, 2016). Rhetoric certainly did not die out with the passing of time and is still found in today
s modern era.
Of these three appeals, pathos is the most prevalent in both advertisements. An inherent form of
pathos in the Budweiser commercial was the relationship between a puppy and

The Minerals and Chemicals within Glass
Majority of glass used in our daily glass from jars, bottles, drinking glass and even windows are
called soda lime glass since it uses soda ashes in its production. Glass in general is mainly made
out of sand. In fact, sand alone can be fused to produce glass but it requires a high temperature
which is estimated about 1700В°C for the sand to completely melt. However, to mass produce glass
, other chemical and mineral are added to lower the melting temperature to ease the production.
Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3) also known as soda ash is mixed with sand to produce a product of
75% silica (SiO2) and 25% sodium oxide (Na2O). This mixture will melt and fuse at a much
lower temperature of 800В°C. Unfortunately, the glass produced with this composition is water
soluble which is also known as water glass. This is not suitable for glass bottle since it need to
contain water so, to stabilise the glass, other chemical substance is mixed into the composition
such as calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO). The chemical mixtures are obtained by
the addition of lime stone which produce a pure and inert glass.
The glass produced is originally colourless and transparent. Addition of different chemicals into
the production of the glass results in different colour like green blue or brown. Most of glass bottle
produced have similar composition of chemicals as their ingredients. The composition of chemicals
are 70% 74% SiO2 (silica) 12% 16% Na2O (sodium oxide) 5% 11% CaO (calcium oxide)

Gary Sinise takes the novel Of Mice and Men and creates an astonishing filmthat will leave you in
awe. The outstanding acting, diverse cinematography, and uplifting plot are what makes the film

The themes of friendship, trust, and manipulation can be shown through the movie in different
ways. Each of the themes work together to create a lesson that is taught throughout the film. The
movie shows the differences between right and wrong and also shows different ways of solving
problems. All together Of Mice and Men is more than just a story, but it is a perspective change in
life and what the meaning of friendship is. Not only does the film teach a lesson, but it inspires
people to fulfill and live out their dreams.
The film started by showing different shots of the scenery, giving the audience a different
perspective on the setting. As well as using distinct shots, the director uses unique angles that make
the characters appear slightly different. The director makes sure to wisely select backgrounds that
aren t distracting from the main thing being shown. Although the shots and camera angles were
admirable the transitions were rather abrupt.
The sound director did a good job of choosing music that is appropriate for each scene. The music
playing during conversations between the characters makes the conversation more sensitive and
more dramatic. The use of sound effects in the film made it more interesting and entertaining.
Although the sound effects were used well, the transitions of the music and sound effects were

the customers. PepsiCo tried to position its product for the society as a whole and for the purpose
of refreshment. Pepsi positions itself on points of difference as well as points of parity. Pepsi s

Corporal Punishment over Student s Objection Chapter 3, p. 100
Carl Palmer, principal of Carbondale Middle School, became very upset with Walter Johnson for

he, Palmer, must administer corporal punishment based on school policy. As the principal
proceeded to get his instrument to administer the punishment, Walter told him that Palmer was not
going to hit him with anything. Other students, faculty, and staff in the outer office heard him say
this.
Discussions Questions 1. What is the dilemma facing Palmer?
I believe that the dilemma is simple: a student challenges the school official authority. I said simple
because not for the dilemma s complexity rather for the regularity with which a young behave in a
rebellious manner. 2. Should Palmer proceed with his plan to administer the punishment? Why or
why not?
No, he should not. The corporal punishment should never be administered when the child presents
resistance. However, in case that he proceed with his plan, the reasonable administration should be
based in the gravity of the offense. Moreover, school officials should provide student s punishment
options for deviant behavior instead the corporal punishment. 3. Does the student have the right to

Currently, because the market of traditional beer is decreasing with an annual rate of 4%, whereas
the market of light beer is increasing, Mountain Man is thinking to extend its product line to light
bear. However, we don t know if it is a good idea because of the difficulty transferring the brand
equity and the uncertainty of cannibalization and dilution. I suggest we should still extend the
brand and launch Mountain Man light in following process.
First of all, Mountain Man light should target on female and younger generation. According to the
profile of beer drinkers, females account for 42% of light beer drinkers and those who are younger
than 35 years old account for 29%, which means the total proportion of them is as high as 58.8%.

beer is more expensive than lager, it s not expensive at all, compared to those famous companies.
According to the market share (barrels) and total sales of beer, Mountain Man supposed to earn
$191 million dollars, but their actual sales is much lower than it, which means Mountain Man
Lager is cheaper than the average price (Appendix2). Next, choose restaurants and bars as the

  • 2. A Report On The Cruise Sector Essay The study in this report will confirm that the cruise sector is an important part of the tourism industry in New Zealand. The sector creates significant inflows of foreign expenditure which impacts positively on the New Zealand economy. The level of activity within the sector has grown rapidly in the past decade and is expected to continue growing, although at a more subdued level. The pace and scale of growth has caused concerns to be raised about the ability of New Zealand to capitalise on this influx currently and in the long term, as there are issues around capacity in some essential services for the sector. Introduction: In New Zealand cruising is the fastest growing tourism sector and has huge potential, because of the country s popularity as a destination skyrocketing and increase in the tourist attraction. The numbers of passengers have growing by more than 250 percent in last five years. As the industry grows in New Zealand it constantly stimulates new activity and initiatives. Many ports around the country are improving their facilities to handle cruise ships. There has been a commensurate increase in international flights with passengers either joining or leaving a cruise ship in New Zealand. There is also now a dedicated cadet training programme in New Zealand, which allows navigation and engineering officer graduates to move directly into cruise related employment. In addition, cruise lines are visiting hospitality schools and technical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hi I M Alfie Research Paper Hi, I m Alfie. I m looking for a loving forever home that will stick with me through the good and bad. I love spending most of my day indoors in the company of men, women, and possibly even older children, where I can pretty much chill out and lounge around. I am prone to alert bark, and I may have a subtle protective streak in me. However once I know that the stranger is okay around my familymy friendly side shines through. I m a very curious guy and am interested in all that goes on around me and I miss very little. In my previous home I was an inside dog, so as a result, I am completely housetrained. Even though, I love spending most of my time indoors, I would really like it if my next home had a big back yard where I could spend a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Charles Eames Psychology Although I am familiar with the Eames name and especially their contributions to chair design, I admittedly did not know the Eames were so engrained in American history beyond their contributions to the chair. The one thing that really stands out to me as the main reason for their success is specifically Charles Eames insatiable desire to learn, and further, the incorporation of his artistic and architectural visions to produce novel ideas and projects to epitomize Gardner s great man/woman definition of creativity. It would be naГЇve to dismiss the idea that revenue was also most likely a motivating factor, but the revenue as depicted in the documentary was specifically a means to financial ends; a source of income for truly revolutionary work. I think ultimately, no matter the amount of revenue, unless someone is inherently motivated, Gardner s great man/woman definition cannot be fulfilled due to the almost magical power that innate motivation, interest, drive, and work ethic have on individuals who are heralded in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From both of the accounts, it seemed that regardless of what was going on around them, they both had a continuous, unrelenting thought process regarding things they were passionate about. As Einstein eloquently stated, I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious. In my opinion, although Einstein understated his legendary scientific acumen (the same acumen that makes his name synonymous with genius), the quote reinforces the idea that Einstein s curiosity was most instrumental in his success. It would make sense, considering both are posthumously esteemed members of academia for their theories and providing revolutionary food for thought. Eames seemed to have this same desire where it seems he was always trying to think or learn simply out of his love for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. X By Lois Gould Summary Society has exaggerated that the way a man or woman acts is the way they have to be or else they are not normal. The general stereotypes for women include they don t play sports, supposed to cook and do housework, not as strong as men. The general stereotypes for men include work in the science and engineering field, must be obeyed because they are always in charge, always on top. In the short story X by Lois Gould, the author shows us that genderis not so important when a child chooses to express him/herself in whichever way they want to. Although society wants an individual to act a specific way, it shouldn t define their way of life, whatever makes the individual happy they should continue to do it without having others judging them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children s choices/attitudes towards a subject are developed by their parents teachings in that area. Parents influence their kids opinion in what field they choose to go into, if they have a boy they most likely would tell him to go into some engineering or medical field (doctor), and if it s a girl they would tell her to go into a teaching or nursing field, because this is apparently based on society expectations and it s really bad if they don t follow what their genders are good at. If his /her parents tell them what to become or how to behave, they will most likely listen because their parents are more experienced and know what s best for them. Unless the boy or girl don t try new things in life, as in don t try different sports, jobs, activities they won t know what they are most strongest in. Most boys and girls are limited to specific fields because of what they re parents opinions about them are. The way their parents raised their sons/daughters is also a factor when they choose their jobs. In the story, X s parents raised him/her in a way where he /she wouldn t be limited to specific ways of life. He/she got to experience both norms for girls and norms for boys and he/she had twice as much fun when no one focused on gender or the way he/she displayed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Photography Techniques The article The Life of Carlos, an Undocumented New Yorker exposes the dehumanizing atmosphere Honduras reveals to its population at a young age, causing many teenagers, such as Carlos, to be in search of a new life in the United States while losing their innocence along the journey to survive. When Carlos arrives to the United States, he is quickly thrown into an adult detention center, but then temporarily released to be with his U.S. citizen Grandmother. Alexandra Starr s about Carlo s journey is coupled with Edward Keating s photographs of him. Starr s writing focuses on the story of Carlos which vividly includes many situations an average person will never experience in their lifetime, except Carlos experienced this all before the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two powerful examples of Keating s work that help unify the meaning of the work as a whole are the second and last photos. In the second photo the photographer employs cropping so that Carlos is the only one in the photograph with the soccer ball. The cropping of the photo makes it clear that Carlos is supposed to be the only one in the foreground with an unfocused background. Capturing Carlos as the subject focus playing soccer, Keating shows that despite his experiences mentioned in Starr s writing, he is still normal as he expresses his love of the common game of soccer. The last picture uses gaze and cropping to make Carlos the subject focus as well. The photographer strategically cropped the photo so the buildings are split evenly on the sides Carlos as he walks down the middle without any other people in the shot. The gaze presented in the photo shows Carlos looking straight ahead with a high head, which affirms his ability to keep moving forward in life, despite his setbacks. Although both works utilize different strategies to express the subject focus of Carlos, coupling both Starr and Keating s versions of Carlos communicates overcoming the idea that struggles and hardship often lead to a true appreciation of living ... • 7. Analysis Of The Arch Of Constantine The Arch of Constantine The Arch of Constantine is located along the Via Triumphalis in Rome, situated between both the Colosseum and the Temple of Venus and Roma. Along the width of the arch, there are three arches with partially engaged Corinthian columns. The arch is about 20 meters high, 25 meters wide, and 7 meters deep. At the central opening, it is almost 12 meters high, with identical inscribed marble panels above, one on each side, that read: To the Emperor Caesar Flavius Constantinus, the Greatest, pious, fortunate, the Senate and people of Rome, by inspiration of divinity and his own great mind with his righteous arms on both the tyrant and his faction in one instant in rightful battle he avenged the republic, dedicated this arch as a memorial to his military victory The most amazing features of the Arch are the relief sculptures. Many of the sculptures are standard roman art, like the Nike figures above the central archway. Other elements show a multiplicity of styles. In fact, many of the sculptures of the arch were reused building stone or sculptures taken away from older monuments dating around the 2nd century C.E. The origins of the sculptures, with their imperial style, are resembled to those of the reigns of Trajan, Hadrian, and Marcus Aurelius. Most of the reliefs feature the emperors participating in activities that demonstrate their authority and piety by addressing troops and defeating enemies. There are artistic works of the structure that also date ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Winslow Homer s Impact On Society Winslow Homer is regarded by many as the greatest American painter of the nineteenth century whose mastery in direct observation of his subject matter was considered the most powerful and expressive during his time. Born in Boston and largely self taught, Homer began his career as an illustrator. Perhaps no other American artist during this time was as accomplished in diverse mediums, such as lithography, engraving, oil painting, and watercolors. Early in his career he was recognized for his artistic talents, and his fondness for narrative and drama that led to employment with Harper s Weekly. He was a careful observer of visual realism, and he paid attention to the purely physical properties of pigment and color, of line and form and the patterns... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This form of entertainment consisted of whites in blackface for the purpose of playing the role of blacks as lazy with exaggerated features. This controversial portrayal of blacks before the Civil War contributed to the propagation of stereotypes that not only played a significant role in the perception of blacks, but it created lasting racist images and attitudes about the black culture. In the years that followed the Civil War, political and social readjustments captured the thoughts of most Americans. Homer s employment with Harper s Weekly, was to reflect these realignments. His portrayal of blacks were not necessarily the typical minstrel show conception , however, blacks were portrayed dramatically humorous or comical, if not rendered purposely in Harper s. Maybe Homer could have lapsed into the stereotypes of blacks but his attitude in rendering them in normal, everyday settings was more realistic than his contemporaries. It indicates his artistic ability in transcending, both a theoretical and prevalent mindset of the black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Slavery Is The Key For Achieving Freedom In today s society, we take many things for granted because they come easy to us. Education, in many of our lives, is something that is dreaded, something that we do only because we have to. But 200 years ago, things were much different. Slavery unfortunately existed in our society, and slaves weren t granted the gift of education. By not having an education, they were not able to completely understand their situation, and therefore unable to get out of it. Slaves had a limited option in achieving freedom, and in order to do so, they had to become educated, enough to be able to understand slavery, and they had to be religious to be able to see through the hypocrisy of the religious slaveholders. For slaves, education is the key to achieving freedom. It develops one s sense of curiosity, and allows the mind to question things, and to develop it s own ideas and opinions. For slaves, the gift of education was rare, but if one was lucky enough to have it, they began to see the true nature of slavery, and it made them more likely to try and become free. When Frederick Douglass was a young boy, he befriended a few white children who gave him a glimpse of what having an education is like. When remembering this important time in his life, he says, With their kindly aid, at different times and different places, I finally succeeded in learning to read (66 67). The young boys gave Douglass a book, called the Columbian Orator, the first book he had ever laid hands on. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ANN. §§ 13 3401 and 13 3405, did Jess Pepper knowingly possess marijuana for sale when officers found seventy pounds of marijuana in the lining of the back seat of her Prius? Brief Answer Probably not. It is not likely Jess Pepper will be convicted of knowingly possessed the marijuana found in the back of her Prius. Statement of Facts Jess Pepper and her daughter Laura Pepper Friel were travelling home in Pepper s white Prius, to Phoenix, Arizona after spending three days in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pepper and her daughter had visited their friend Josh Galloway. While travelling home, the women got into an argument. App. 2007), defendant Teagle was pulled over after being observed speeding down the highway. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed two cellular phones on the dashboard, an open container of liquor, fast food wrappers, a box of cookies, a map, and luggage and clothing in the backseat. The officer gave the defendant a warning and then asked him if there was any contraband in the vehicle or whether there was a chance anyone else could have placed any contraband in the vehicle. Although the defendant answered in the negative, the officer returned to his patrol vehicle and asked if there was a canine unit available. There was not and so the officer told the defendant that he was free to leave. Shortly afterwards, the officer saw the defendant speeding once again down the road. The officer proceeded to pull him over and gave him another warning. The officer again asked him if he could search the vehicle and the defendant answered in the affirmative. The officer called a canine unit which arrived an hour later. The canine, in proceeding to do an exterior sniff, circled around to the trunk. The officers then opened the trunk to find 338 pounds of marijuana, a can of air freshener under the driver s seat and several toilet bowl sanitizers in the compartment ofthe vehicle as well as the trunk. These were all indicative of an attempt to mask the smell of marijuana. At trial, the defendant argued that he had taken his vehicle to a repair shop, implying that someone else had placed the drugs in the car. Maria Montessori believed that in presenting the whole universe to the child in their early years, they would be given the courage to act many questions about what the universe holds. This believed that this would help a child to become more aware of what surrounds them and curious of what does not. Montessori separated the universeinto five major sections and many minor ones to help introduce them to the child. Each story had the truths of the universe as we have been thought them but also leave the child in awe and wonder to try and comprehend these facts with their meaning. No matter what we touch, an atom, or a cell, we cannot explain it without the knowledge of the wide universe. Some agree that the material in the curriculum should be force fed to a child and others feel that it should be. Maria Montessori was deeply religious, and brought many of her beliefs into the Great Lessons. These lessons came about back when religious beliefs were an accepted, natural part of everyday life which also includes the school environment. Things are different today, and if you are teaching at a school, you ll probably want to stick to a factual account of the beginning of the universe (see the end of this post for some resources); if you re at home, you can feel free to tailor the lesson to your own family s religious ... Their application was denied; Edwards Manufacturing Company was required to come up with a plan for the enacting and financing of decommissioning the dam, as well as the restoration of the river. This was the first time in history that the federal government ordered a privately owned hydroelectric dam destroyed against the wishes of the owner. There are a number of environmental advantages that would occur upon decommissioning the Edwards Dam, most notably the rejuvenation of fish populations and the resulting increase in numbers of the osprey and bald eagles which feed upon them. Historically, the Kennebec River provided extensive top quality breeding grounds for all ten species of anadromous fish native to the northeastern U.S., a distinction that the Kennebec River alone could boast of. Anadromous fish make their home in the ocean but embark upon the tough journey upstream once a year to lay their eggs. Since the erection of the Edwards Dam in 1837, and the subsequent construction of more than a hundred dams upstream of the Edwards, these fish have been effectively blocked off from prime spawning grounds. The removal of the dam would open up fifteen miles of these grounds, seventeen miles total before encountering the next obstruction, making this the longest uninterrupted stretch of high quality breeding grounds north of the Hudson River (Howe,1998). The possibility of freeing such a considerable amount of breeding grounds had conservationists up in arms over the matter of renewing the operation license of the Edwards Manufacturing ... Parallels Between Mrs Dalloway and The Hours The ongoing relationship between the literary movements of modernism and post modernism is encompassed by the intertextual relationships between Stephen Daldry s The Hours and Virginia Woolf s Mrs Dalloway . These relationships communicate the inadequacy of previous writings to convey trauma, cultural crisis and the deep fragmentation within their respective societies. The immediate context of these social dialogues creates a clear division between each text, however the intertextual similarities between minor and major characters create an effective parallel to traverse decades, years, months and days. The coffee was very slow ... until Mr Whitbread had finished ... Hugh was so very slow the agonising sense of immediacy both draws our attention back to clock time whilst allowing us to delve into Clarissa s past as she recalls that Hugh is always so absurdly slow. As reality is blurred in psychological time, external time punctuates the novel There! Out it boomed. First a warning, musical, then the hour, irrevocable this reminds the reader that this story is in fact occurring in a single day and every event experienced outside of this timeframe is a figment of a characters memory. Woolf makes these memories the focus of the novel rather than external time to create a mobile reality where she fabricates the sense of movement by traversing time through the consciousness of her characters. These memories therefore are from a specific point of view and therefore exclude some properties of the remembered moment and parts of said reality may simply be dissolved in the air as the memory fades with ongoing time. Daldry approaches Woolf s tunnelling technique with sensitivity and subtlety in order to unify Virginia, Laura and Clarissa. The repetitive musical score by Philip Glass creates a sense of the cyclical nature of time and is evocative of the relentlessness of time. This too creates an illusion of both time and timelessness as the regular rhythm simulates that of a clock as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kasulis focuses on two of Nagarjuna s points or rather critiques against the Abhidharma; time and causality. Nagarjuna s critique on time can be seen as a good introduction to his methodology. Nagarjuna argues four points against time. The first critique is that if the existence of the present and future depends upon the past, then present and future should be in the past (Kasulis). An example from my life to help illustrate this point would be driving. The past is when I was 16 years old and I got my driver s license. • 30. Rhetorical Analysis Of Gregory Crewdson s Natural Wonder Gregory Crewdson s untitled photograph from the series Natural Wonder presents an eerie close up of a scene taking place in the woods. The attention of the audience is brought to a small fox who lies on its back, dead. Surrounding the fox are an abundance of overgrown grape vines. Perched atop the fox are three birds who stare questioningly at the site around them. Behind the copious amount of leaves and grapes is a somewhat cheerful looking, whitebackground containing buildings and smoke, a noticeable difference from the forest scene which is more apparent to the audience. Through his placement of objects, use of color, and change of scenery, Crewdson expresses the negative effects of industrialization on wildlife. Crewdson uses placement of objects by making the dead fox the central theme of this photograph to delve into the feelings of the audience. Because foxes are animals with great knowledge of the woods, it would be unlikely for them to suddenly die while in their natural habitat. This leads the audience to wonder what might have happened to cause the fox s death which can be symbolized by the birds above the fox who seem to be wondering the same thing. Although birds symbolize freedom, they are staying behind to witness the destruction of the land around them. Crewdson also places the leaves and overgrown grapevines of the photograph in an unorderly way. This shows that the forest is not being taken care of causing the loss of this fox. The issue of climate change and the alarmingly high levels of Global Greenhouse Gas (GCG) emissions have meant there has been a transition in energy systems as countries worldwide continuingly proceed into a post carbon world. Developing energy systems of the future is one of the central challenges to policy makers, a challenge which is complex and multifaceted (Miller et al 2013:135) as large scale shifts in the use of fuels and energy technologies have often underpinned broad social and geographical change (Jiusto 2009:537). The aim of this essay is to investigate how the transition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In areas of the global South energy transition suggests a substantial increase in availability and affordability of energy (Bradshaw 2010), whereas in the Western world energy transition is termed as a movement towards a secure, low carbon future (Bridge et al 2013:333), and targets such as those in the UK of an 80 per cent reduction in COв‚‚ by 2050 (Foxon et al 2008). There are various reasons as to why the energy transition to a low carbon system and use of renewable sources of energy are contemporary. The first of which is the worryingly high amounts of GCG emissions in the atmosphere, caused by a multitude of things such as population growth, demand for energy supply in conjunction with the inefficient use of energy, which is chiefly satisfied by the use of fossil fuels and also economic and industrial expansion. The need to reduce such emissions is ever important as if carbon dioxide emissions from the use of fossil fuel continue to rise at current levels it will cause the average global temperature to rise by 5В°C or more over the next 100 years (IPCC 2007). Another reason is the dwindling supply of fossil fuels available, Roberts (2004) suggesting there is a looming crisis ahead despite it being argued by some global governments that supplies of fossil fuels were ample to meet world ... Many teens are interested in being able to drive at a younger age, even after obtaining a driving permit, but it is unclear if they are able to handle such a monumental task. The driver s license age requirement should be increased to the age of 18. Increasing the age requirement might not benefit the teens that need reliable transportation to go to their workplace and support their family and themselves financially, but some argue that earning income at such a young age is too much trouble for an individual. She doesn t think that way just with me, but also with other people, because I think I made her insecure about herself. Now that I have realized that, I am trying to compensate by either thinking lose/win or win/win. So I will get back in the positive emotional bank account. • 37. Columbus Day Pros And Cons In modern day society, we often overlook key points in history. For example, Columbus Day, why do we celebrate it? Well, from one s point of view, we celebrate this holiday for several reasons, one of these reasons are because it recalls Christopher Columbus entry to the Americas on October 12, 1492. This occasion is questionable on the grounds that the European settlement in the Americas prompted the downfall of the history and culture, of the indigenous people groups. What are some of the pros and cons from naming Columbus Day to Indigenous Day? That is what you will learn in this essay. To start off, Indigenous People s Day, or Columbus Day, Which do you prefer? First off, why is it called Columbus Day ? Well, as stated earlier, it was named after Christopher Columbus, who as we believe today, discovered America. Many believe that it was him who founded the Americas, but really there could ve been earlier settlers or even Native Americans who lived on those territories before Columbus made his way there. What is a pro of having this day named after Columbus? A source I found called www.scholastic.com stated, The holiday honoring Christopher Columbus s sighting of America on October 12, 1492, is observed in the states of the United Statesand also in parts of Canada, in Puerto Rico, and in some cities in Italy and Spain. Although Columbus was not the first explorer to set foot in the Western Hemisphere, his landing at San Salvador Island in what is now the Bahamas was very important. It opened the way for the settlement of America by Europeans. So, basically we named this holiday after Columbus because it was assumed that he was one of the first to see and discover the Americas. Another source titled www.osia.org stated Columbus Day celebrates the beginning of cultural exchange between America and Europe. After Columbus, came millions of European immigrants who brought their art, music, science, medicine, philosophy and religious principles to America. From one s point of view, it may look like Columbus did many great things that led to the development of America. But no one really knows what was at stake because of Columbus decisions. • 38. Tone, By Richard Lovelace Tone is a device used by authors in order to evoke emotions in their audience. The tone can be anything but it greatly effects how the reader receives the message of the piece. For example I analyzed two different poems, both with the same subject but with very different tones. The way I received each poem was very different. The first, by Richard Lovelacetitled To Lucastahad a passionate tone while the second poem by Wilfred Owen titled Dulce et Decorum Esthad a cynical tone. The tones of these poems were created using similar literary devices but their results were very different. While short, Richard Lovelace says much through the tone in his 17th century poem To Lucasta. At first glance the poem seems very organized with 3 stanzas each with 4 lines. Every other line rhymes, which gives the audience a feel of playfulness and whimsy. One would assume that the message of the poem would also be just as organized. However, the speaker seems to be battling with feelings of regret and excitement. The overall tone of this poem seems to be apologetic yet passionate. The speaker is apologetic about his decision to go to war but also seems to be passionate and enticed by the thoughts of his new adventure. Lovelace uses imagery and figure of speech to create this tone by depicting his life before the war and his life during the war as two different women. He begins his poem with tell me not, Sweet, I am unkind, which conveys to the reader whom the speaker is talking to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1947 Pollock abruptly started working in what he is now famous for, his drip and splash method. He continued painting throughout the early 1950 s (Landau 22). Jackson was most well known for his drip paintings, which were created in a very unheard of and unusual way. He attached his canvases to the floor, dancing around them and attacking them from all four sides. He would use almost anything but a paintbrush to apply the paint to the canvas. Pollock most often stood over the work slinging paint with sticks, trowels, or knives. This would later earn him the name, Jack the Dripper (Lehrer). He would also embed things onto his painting surface, such as sand, broken glass, nails, pebbles, string, and other foreign matter. This gave it texture and depth. He had an exceptional interest in sand paintings, as he had studied about the Southwest Indians that made sand paintings as a ritual to heal an unhealthy or diseased person. • 41. The Problem Of Racial Profiling Twists of Humanity Has one ever sit down and thought about the use of racial profiling in our country today? Many individuals have a role in racial profiling and do not realize it. Racial profiling is using one s race or ethnicity against them as a foundation of suspecting someone to committing an offense of some sort. For example, racial profilers could say that Pit Bulls are more likely to bite than any other breeds of dogs, and to keep this from happening, all Pit Bulls should be euthanized. Of course, like all breeds of dogs, some Pit Bulls may bite, but not all of them deserve the punishment of being euthanized. The main problem with racial profiling is that innocent individuals are targeted due to past cases with their race. This leads to 36 year old Shoshana Hebshi, who is half Jewish and half Arab. She was targeted on a plane in Detroit due to her race. Although Shoshana Hebshi was targeted through racial profiling, the use of iron triangles saved Shoshana from unlawful accusations. On September 11, 2011, Shoshana Hebshi was travelling on the Frontier Airlines that landed in Detroit when her and two Indian American men were targeted by federal agents who entered the plane and demanded them to exit. Shoshana was handcuffed, pushed down steps, and into a vehicle (Warikoo, 2013). These advertisements are found in a multitude of different places, including places such as billboards, newspapers, and on the television. Advertisements are most successful if they incorporate ethos, pathos, and logos into the message they are trying to present. Ethos is the credibility of an advertisement, pathosis the emotional appealof an advertisement, and logos is the logic found in the advertisement. This paper will show the similarities and differences in pathos, logos, and ethos found in two separate Budweiser advertisements. Ethos, pathos, and logos are all rhetorical appeals, meaning that they are used to assist the speaker or writer in harnessing rhetoric. Clark (2016) considers rhetoric as a tool meant for persuasion as well as for creating effective arguments. Rhetoric became extremely popular during the golden age of Greece, and most elite young men in Greek city states such as Athens were trained to utilize rhetoric to their fullest abilities (Clark, 2016). Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher, believed that rhetoricians those who used rhetoric to influence and sway opinions used rhetoric irresponsibly (Clark, 2016). The Minerals and Chemicals within Glass Majority of glass used in our daily glass from jars, bottles, drinking glass and even windows are called soda lime glass since it uses soda ashes in its production. Glass in general is mainly made out of sand. In fact, sand alone can be fused to produce glass but it requires a high temperature which is estimated about 1700В°C for the sand to completely melt. However, to mass produce glass , other chemical and mineral are added to lower the melting temperature to ease the production. Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3) also known as soda ash is mixed with sand to produce a product of 75% silica (SiO2) and 25% sodium oxide (Na2O). This mixture will melt and fuse at a much lower temperature of 800В°C. Unfortunately, the glass produced with this composition is water soluble which is also known as water glass. This is not suitable for glass bottle since it need to contain water so, to stabilise the glass, other chemical substance is mixed into the composition such as calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO). The chemical mixtures are obtained by the addition of lime stone which produce a pure and inert glass. The glass produced is originally colourless and transparent. Addition of different chemicals into the production of the glass results in different colour like green blue or brown. Most of glass bottle produced have similar composition of chemicals as their ingredients.
