The Commercialization Of Hip Hop
Since its conception, hip hop has been a very necessary and influential art form in the way that it gives
a voice to people who would normally not have one. The fact that it was often the sole voice for a
marginalized community meant that the genre has often shouldered the burden of being a genuine
political force. Hip hop s role in addressing the concerns of urban Black Americans has led people to
refer to it as CNN for Black people. However, in recent times, the commercialization of the genre (and
growing popularity with white audiences) has generated a lot of criticism from many who feel that the
essence of hip hop is being destroyed and it does not have as much of a meaningful effect on
dispossessed Black youth as it used to have.

My First Thoughts Of Buffalo State
My first thoughts of Buffalo State, I had many different ideas on what I should expect. First I was very
excited to step foot in a place that I never been. I love experiencing new places. Considering I never
been to the Buffalo State college or even orientation I expected the best. I figured the campus be
beautiful and very spacy. I researched facts about Buffalo State and I was very surprised to see how
many students attended. I love the fact that the college presented a lot of diversity. I also expected that
the college life would be very social since I asked the former students of Buffalo State about it. Of
course I was a little nervous that there was a little chance that it May not be anything close to what I
expected. The helping hands on the college life I expected would be top notch since there were so
many students living on campus. When I received the letter that I would be attending the EOP
program which I applied for I was very excited. I wasn t really sure exactly what EOP actually was but
I hoped for the best. My mom gave me a brief description on what the program was. I didn t like the
fact that it was three weeks long and the first thing that came to my mind when I heard that was my
summer was coming to an end quite early. I didn t think too negative about it but I hoped that it gave
me all the tips I needed to know about the college and the college life on campus. I like to think
positive and expect positive because it s only right in my mind. When I step

North Central Ohio Rehabilitation Center
Environmental Assessment North Central Ohio Rehabilitation Center initially was an addition for the
JDC next door. However, the State of Ohio started the RECLAIM act as a response to juvenile court
and Department of Youth correctional overcrowding (Ohio Department of Youth Services).
RECLAIM stands for reasonable and equitable community and local alternatives to the incarceration
of minors. This act was implemented in January of 1995 and there are currently only 12 community
facilities in the state of Ohio. NCORC opened its door as a community facility because of this act in
1996 (Wrentmore, 2015). Initially, NCORC housed boys and girls in the facility. However, later on it
was decided boys would be much easier to house. The mission statement at NCORC is to make a
positive and instrumental difference in the lives of youth by providing rehabilitative treatment to meet
their individual and collective needs to become productive law abiding citizens (North Central
Rehabilation Center). It has not changed at all it the last five years. The facility very much follows this
statement even when the boys are less than willing to try and make positive changes. NCORC is very
much a public agency since it is certified and funded by state programs. NCORC serves Marion,
Crawford, Hardin, Morrow, and Wyandot County. NCORC has a governing board with judges from
each of the counties; it meets every other month for discussion (North Central Rehabilation Center).

The Importance Of Sports
Sports are one of the most watched pieces of entertainment in America, and around the world. People
watch sports because you never know the outcomes of the games, and because you can root for your
chosen team. When a person thinks a about a sport the first thing that comes to their head is probably
something like football or soccer, but what about chess or even video games. Sports are usually
thought of as games that require strength and physical skill to preform, but sports should be defined by
competitiveness, strategy, and entertainment value. Sports that most people watch include some sort of
use of strength, an example of this being football. Football does require strength to play well, but it is
far more important to have strategy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If an average person were to play these video games against them, they would lose, by a lot, just like if
average people played soccer against a professional team. So clearly these players possess a high
amount of skill in their game so why is that skill not consider the same as that of an athlete. Most
people would think sports should include a physical element sports require competitiveness even
more. A sport in which there is no competition would be pointless, and more importantly no one
would play. The competitive nature of sports is what makes them so popular. At the end of the day one
team wins, and one team loses. Competition is what drives players to do their best so that they can
win. The competitive nature of sports is what forms rivalries, and what drives fans to games. If there
were no competition in sports, there would be no reason to watch. National and worldwide sports
events, like the super bowl, world cup, or even video game tournaments, bring in some of the largest
viewership s in the world. People want to find out what team or country is the best at the sport in
question. Chess and Video games both meet this standard due to their extreme competitiveness. If
something has no competitive element, it cannot call itself a sport. While sports require competition,
they also require an amount of strategy. Sports require a strategy to win. If there were no strategy
required

Certain religions have limitations against what activities they can take part in and differentiating

as white Americans are unbelievably over privileged. The society we live in today is home to some of
the most ignorant people. When it comes to how lucky and privileged we are, living in a free country
with the rights that we have should be one of the most grateful gifts given to us. In the film Bend it

Final essay #4

English 203k Fall 2014
Hands: time changes Sherwood Anderson s story Hands is primarily concerned with innocence and
guilt.
Ochani Lele states A pair of hands can create, inspire, instill dreams; while those same hands can
destroy, diffuse, and install nightmares. (Lele) Through Anderson s Hands it suggest that something
innocent can be quickly distorted into something grotesque.

The townspeople did not understand why Adolf Myers was like that, they thought it was wrong. The
towns people ran Myers out of town. They came to his house and they were going to hang him, but
something in his figure, so small, white and pitiful touched their hearts and they let him escape. (1942)
That is how he ended up in Winesburg. He is

Pennsylvania. [He] did not understand what had happened he felt that the hands must be to blame.
(1942) Wing Biddlebaum did not think he belonged in this town. He was forever frightened and beset
by a ghostly brand of doubts, did not think of himself as, in anyway, a part of the life of the town

Wing Biddlebaum talked a lot with his hands. The slender expressive fingers, forever active, forever
striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or behind his back, came forth and became the piston
rods of his machinery of expression. (1939) Since
Wing Biddlebaum thought his hands were to blame he always hid them.

Amir was born in 1963 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Amir grew up in a wealthy family. He lived with his

Training and Development in Hr
Training can be introduced simply as a process of assisting a person for enhancing his efficiency and
effectiveness to a particular work area by getting more knowledge and practices. Also training is
important to establish specific skills, abilities and knowledge to an employee. For an organization,
training and development are important as well as organizational growth, because the organizational
growth and profit are also dependent on the training. But the training is not a core of organizational
development. It is a function of the organizational development.

All employees want to be valuable and remain competitive in the labour market at all times, because
they make some demand for employees in the labour market. This can only be achieved through
employee training and development. Hence employees have a chance to negotiate as well as employer
has a good opportunity to select most suitable person for his vacancy. Employees will always want to
develop career enhancing skills, which will always lead to employee motivation. There is no doubt
that a well trained and developed staff will be a valuable asset to the company and thereby increasing
the chances of his efficiency in discharging his or her duties.
Trainings in an organization can be mainly of two types; Internal and External training sessions.
Internal training involves when training is organized in house by the human resources department or
training department using either a senior staff or any talented staff in the particular department as a
resource person.
On the other hand external training is normally arranged outside the firm and is mostly organized by
training institutes or consultants. Whichever training, it is very important for all staff and helps in
building career positioning and preparing staff for greater challenges in developing world. How ever
the training is costly. Because of that, people who work at firms do not receive external trainings most

Mandalas can demonstrate and express so much to a person. They used to not mean anything to me,

The Influence Of Physically Abusive Relationships
How to tell if you re in an emotionally abusive relationship. First off you need to realize that not all
abusive relationships are physically, emotionally abusive relationships are a very real thing. 1. Your
spouse or significant other find pleasure in humiliating you or embarrassing you constantly and
continues even after multiple pleas to stop. When going out with friends they make you the joke,
weather they are making fun of your appearance or how you act, it makes you feel like you must
change for them. They are just a bully. 2. No matter what you re doing, they constantly put you down,
and make you feel worthless. 3. Hypercriticism, they criticize literally everything you do. This goes

GUILT TRIPS. Constantly, everything is always your fault, you are the one to apologize after they
break something. You end up apologizing for a fight, they started, or worse. These are all big factors in
determining if you re in an abusive relationship. They are a real thing, take it from someone who
knows. So what can you do if you are in one? 1. Get out of it. As fast and as soon as possible, the
scary thing about emotionally abusive relationships is they eventually turn into physically abusive
relationships. 2. Cut them off, block them on everything, move out, get rid of their stuff, and do not
contact them. 3. Go to therapy and yes, it may sound weird, but most abusive relationships leave you
feeling worthless and you will eventually go back to that chaos or find a worse one without mental
help. 4. If they begin to threaten you or stalk you, get a hold of the police and file a restraining order if
necessary. 5. Move on, you may have thought you loved them, but they have brainwashed you into
thinking that how they treated you was okay. IT S NOT OKAY. Find someone who can understand
what you ve been through and help you recover. 6. Remember, it s not your fault, they manipulate you

Gas Chromatography Lab
Simple Distillation and Gas Chromatography The objective of the lab was to purify compounds that
can be turned into gas at a reasonable temperature without using decomposition. Gas chromatography
was also used to identify the proportions of the volatile compound in the different samples. The
mixture of hexane and octane was assigned to me and my partner. The apparatus for simple distillation
was assemble using a thermocouple, air condenser, distillation head, metal keck clamps, and a conical
reaction vial. The joints of the glassware were greased before assembly. Four boiling chips were
placed in the conical ration vial before it was assembled. After being assigned a mixture, 3.5 mL of the
mixture was put into a reaction vial. The apparatus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no distillate in the distillation head after 20 minutes on the setting of 40 so the Variac
transformer was turned to 45. The first fraction was collected at 55.6°C. The ratio of hexane to octane
was 87.437% to 12.563%. The second fraction was collected between 47.3°C and 40.5°C. 88.429% to
11.571% was the ratio of hexane to octane for this fraction. The third fraction was collected at 30.6°C,
and the ratio of hexane to octane was 94.957% to 5.043%. The contents of the conical reaction vial
were placed in a fourth vial and a chromatogram was obtained for it. The ration of hexane to octane
was 7.501% to 92.499%. During the collection of the three fractions, a piece of the glass pipet broke
off into the distillation head. The results of the experiment could have been incorrect because the
glassware was not properly cleaned. The distillate also could have collected too fast which would have
lowered the separations efficiency. From this information, infer that hexane has a lower boiling point
than octane because most of the distillate was hexane. The majority of what was left in the conical
reaction vial was octane because the temperature was not hot enough to turn it into a gas to go into the
distillation

Lyrical Ballads Captures The Hour of Feeling Essay
Lyrical Ballads were written in a time of great change. They were dominated by the French
Revolution and both Wordsworth and Coleridge felt great impact from this. There was disruption all
over with the American War of Independence and other wars worldwide. Britain itself was changing
rapidly due to colonial expansion, which brought new wealth, ideas and fashion, and there was much
disturbance to both the people and the land with the act of enclosure, which may have meant more
effective farming but less work. The introduction of the Poor Laws meant that landowners paid their
remaining staff very little knowing that they would be supplemented by poor relief. However the
conditions stated by the Laws before aid would be given were very ... Show more content on

The middle of the eighteenth century was the height of what became known as the ?Age of Reason?,
where people believed that thoughts and actions should be based on the material world. This
supported John Locke?s theories that a populace could legitimately revolt against a tyrannical
government. This would have greatly appealed to British people at a time where the government has
become increasingly oppressive due to their fear of an uprising. The desire for stability was shown in
the Church. However this gave many people more reason to feel the need for change as it said that
salvation lay in duty and obedience and that children were merely blank pages to be educated and
therefore gain decency and social responsibility. Dreams and imagination were distrusted and
discouraged. Lyrical Ballads broke through all this, encouraging imagination and telling us to learn
from the simplicity of children, therefore appealing to many people. The 1780?s saw lots of inspired
political and social movements with people hoping to rid the world of slavery, promote women?s
rights, protect workers, increase suffrage, promote tolerance and greater sexual freedom. Many of
these issues are present in Lyrical Ballads. ?Mad Mother?, ?The Thorn?, ?The Female Vagrant? and ?
The Forsaken Indian Woman? all call for better rights for women as it was society that really caused
their suffering in these poems. In ?The Thorn? the woman may never had killed her child with more

Cretaceous Mass Extinction
The Cretaceous mass extinction had two theories on how and why it happened through the impact
hypothesis. The first one was suggested that an asteroid collided with Earth 65 million years ago. Luis
Alvarez and his son, Walter Alvarez found high levels of the rare metal iridium in the layers of the
Earth during the periods of the Cretaceous and Tertiary located in Italy. Their proof is that it was the
cause of extinction by an asteroid the size of 10 kilometers. The second impact hypothesis was from a
crater that was found buried off the coast of Yucatan, Mexico. Due to the material that was thrown
from the crater into the air, plant life could not receive sunlight to survive. The same goes for animals

1.3 Analyse how national and local guidelines, policies, and procedures for safeguarding affect day to

The Government set out legislation and laws for the safeguarding of children and this is passed on to
organisations on a local level for settings to access on a more personal level. This means the setting
has access to a more tailored support that they might benefit from, as well as working with
professionals who are more familiar with the setting in question.
The Suffolk Safeguarding Board is an informative website where all safeguarding policies and
procedures can be accessed. A setting could use this information as guidelines for writing their own
policies and be certain they are implementing information from a national level for use on the ground.
The list of policies they offer include working with children in need to mental health and fostering,
among many other topics, all under the umbrella of safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Its aim is to

The Problem Of Water Privatization
Water privatization, the sale and transportation of water supplies to private companies, is becoming
more commonly used and is affecting several populations in negative ways. Jeneen Interlandi, an
author of World Watch Magazine, claims that private companies will not be able to manage water
supplies in an efficient manner and should sale and management of the world s water supplies to state
and local governments (Interlandi). I believe that water privatization should indeed be put to an end
because it is causing water prices to up and become less affordable, completely cutting off water
access to several communities, and brings contamination and diseases to villages and the environment.

Bolivian citizens revolted into a violent protest that ended the water contract. Similar situations are
still happening around the world today. The construction that goes into digging and reaching fresh
water supplies is expensive, so China has become open to foreign investments and has raised water
rates to more than the public can afford to pay for, despite water being a necessity (Interladi). If not
protesting, citizens simply skip buying water or cut down on how much of it they buy immensely
because they cannot afford the high rates (Runyan). My point is that charging consumers more than
they can afford for a necessity does not guarantee profit. Private companies and investors assume the
consumers have to buy a necessity like water, so they immorally take advantage and force some
families to choose between water and other necessities. After paying more than they can for so long,
consumers will simply stop buying and many will even revolt. So far, private companies main targets
have been developing and poor countries since they could use the financial support to gain funds and
improve their infrastructures and communities. According to Erica Gies, Developing countries are
often pushed into water privatization deals against their will because they need loans from
international development agencies. (Gies). Countries with already developed infrastructures like the

Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article
brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women
were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I
must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are
considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are
locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their

second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This
evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be
awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many
passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will
make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the
malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. Grossman takes the

Analyzing William Byrd s Song My Sweet Little Baby
I chose a song called My sweet little baby , a lullaby of William Bird, composed in England in 1588.
This genre is a classic and chorus. This song was sung by a lot of people, among which I chose the
song that the choir singing the tallis scholars sang. First of all, I will briefly describe the life of
William Bird who composed this song. : William Byrd was born in London in 1542 His father,
Thomas Byrd, was a little known musician. He began studying music from the age of seven, joining
the choir after a while, where he trained under Master Thomas Tallis. During this period, he made
many songs and practiced composition. In 1563, he began full scale composition and left a lot of
famous songs for his descendants, but while he lives, the Catholic religion undergoes a lot of
repression, so he had many restrictions on his work. However, at that time, ... Show more content on

Vladek Tragic Figure In Late Into The Maus
Late into the Maus narrative, a series of squared panels depicts a series of events which leads the
readers from a state of unease to one of triumph for the characters. The story has led the reader to
Sosnowiec, once the home to Vladek and his family but now depicted as a somber and precarious
location through the use of darker shadowing and an accelerando pace when compared to Sosnowiec
earlier on in the novel. Vladek is shown walking, followed behind is a mysterious figure. The reader s
first glimpse of the figure is on the third panel, where his face is revealed. Because of the
classification system the book has taught, the reader will most likely assume that the figure following
Vladek is a pole. His pig like appearance is engraved into the reader s mind as meaning pole, just the
same as cat means Nazi/German, and mouse means Jew. The Jews are undoubtedly a race, but they are
not human . A quote by Adolf ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the man following Vladek is identified as Jew, the reader is shown the strings of the mask hiding
his mouse face. Throughout the book, the use of this mask is prominent. On page 155, we are shown
the Nazis discovering Vladek and Anja through metaphorically (and literally) taking off their masks.
On page 6 Spiegelman first introduced these masks, You re a pole like me states Vladek to a train
man, and unaware of Vladek s true identity he sees the mask . The physical masks in the books are
apparent, which leads the reader to question as to how other characters in the book do not notice them.
If Art Spiegelman implies that the characters do not notice others disguises , then he is also implying
that the characters in the book do not see each other races. The manifestation of animals depicting race
is simply a guide to the reader s mind. Why else would the Art Spiegelman in the book create Prisoner

What Is The Most Tragic Events Of The 1960 s
The 1960 s marked a period of tragic events in the United States. It was a period of sorrow and grief
due to the awful things that were happening. It left a questioning of America over its youths and the
hatred between each other. For instance, Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated in 1968, Malcolm X
in 1965 and the president John F Kennedy in 1963 among others (Felber, 2015). The most tragic event
that had a huge impact was the assassination of the president. It happened on November 23rd in 1963
sometime in the afternoon when a bullet lodged in his head and neck. Around an hour later, he was
pronounced dead at the hospital (Nicks, 2013). His assassination had a great impact, on the whole,

Charles Dickens s Views On Social Relations Through...
Charles Dickens had many opinions towards social relations. He showed compassion and pity to the
less fortune. He portrays the social relations through marriage and kinship. Through the first marriage
with Mr. and Mrs. Gradgrind Charles Dickens shows how an emotionless lifestyle can be troublesome.
Mr. Gradfrind only cared about facts. He taught the kids that facts were the core of living. I agree
somewhat that facts are very important but, just facts are not a proper life. Mr. Grandgrind home life
was falling apart as you read on in the book. His wife admits that she is not happy within her marriage
because of his fun less ways. His kids do not like him at all. He teaches his kids to not use their
imagination or to play. This is not a happy warm family that we normally see in books. Which affects
his kid s actions leading up Tom robbing Bounderby s bank. Another social relationship is the
relationship between the people of Coke Town. The only thing that everyone can really connect to is
money. That s their only goal is making money or working in factories. They do not act like humans.
They act more like machines clocking in and out at the same time going home and dinner then bed.
No fun no imagination no nothing that makes us humans. Charles Dickens uses imagery in the
beginning of the book to describe the town. When he talks about the red and black color of the faces
of the people is an example. He uses image to show an unfriendly face on the people. Actually quite

Review Of Thomas Jefferson s Argumentative Essay
Thomas Jefferson wrote, Determine never to be idle... If is wonderful how much may be done if we
are always doing. I believe that always doing accomplishes more than doing nothing. The reasons I
believe this is because actions always produce results. Also, you will always make progress no matter
what you are doing. If we always accomplish by doing, then what can be accomplished if you do
nothing? You can t achieve any sort of goal if you do nothing; therefore, I agree with Thomas
Jefferson. Firstly, any action we take will always produce some sort of result. When you re taking
action, no matter what for, it always opens up a new path. Whether or not your actions are related to
one another, you ll still achieve some goal. For example, if you

Japan s goal of achieving fukoku kyohei, rich country; strong military , fuelled major political,
economic and social changes during the Meiji Restoration. By the 20th century, Japan had a modern
constitution and national parliament, though it was not truly democratic. The modernization of the
nation also made Japan richer and more economically stable, with a structured education system.
Japan, an impotent, closed feudal state, was transformed into a formidable nation focused on
nationalism. In attempt to acquire strength and unity in the government, political changes focused on
creating a centralized government and a western constitution. In consequence, the Japanese

By the end of the Meiji Restoration, Japan had taken its inevitable part in the international scene. As
the government and economy adjusted, the society took on many changes as well, such as the
adoption of the Western culture, a reform in the education system, and the instillation of nationalism in
Japan. The desire to be perceived as an equal by Westerners resulted in the adoption of the Western
culture in the Japanese society. There were changes in the fashion as well as food and cuisine. Western
style haircuts were ubiquitous in the Japanese streets during 1870, while the introduction to bread,
beef and dairy products made their way to the community subsequently. With the aim of a modernized
society, the Meiji government also found an organized education system a vital aspect, thus instituting
the Terokoya system. This change in education also launched the establishment of the Ministry of
Education, which had an aim of providing education for all people. In 1868, almost 13,000 terakoyas
were constructed with 837,000 students. (Miocevich, 30) By 1910, an immense advancement was
made, as 98% of Japanese students were given compulsory education. (Miocevich, 30) Clearly, the
Japanese had made education a priority. Finally, nationalism was probably the most prominent change
in the Japanese society during the Meiji Restoration. As Japan grew stronger as a

Snow White By The Brothers Grimm
Snow White The story of Snow White is a cautionary tale that has been written by many. Each time it
has been told, the authors had a different interpretation of how it should be. The two variations that I
will be focusing on are The Brothers Grimm s story and Walt Disney s film. Although the fairytales
are written and filmed by different authors, they share a common theme and two symbols. The theme
that is present in both Grimm s and Disney s versions is that evil will always be punished. The
symbols that are in both tales include the concept of beauty and the red poisonous apple. The Brothers
Grimm wrote a few versions of Snow White, but the one I will be referring to be Snow White. I will
be comparing this story to the film of Walt Disney titled Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. These
two variations have a great deal in common including being about Snow White, but they both tell her
story a bit differently. I will point out a few of these differences. In Grimm s version, the Queen visits
the dwarf s house three times. Each time she comes, she leaves with Snow to be looking presumably
dead. The Queen harms her first with a tightly laced corset; second with a poisonous comb she
brushes her hair with and last with a red piece of a poisonous apple. In Disney s film, a red apple
poisons Snow once in the attempt by the evil Queen to take her life. In the Grimm s Snow White, the
kiss of the Prince does not awaken her like in Disney s film, but instead the Prince s men drop her

Scientific Ethics And Scientific Research
Scientific research is a broad range of activities undertaken in systematic ways to advance knowledge
and understandings. It benefits society based on the expectation that researches are conducted
honestly, accurately and fairly. According to the conventional view, scientific research is a highly
logical process, conducted objectively by scientists, inspected by peer scrutiny. However, it is not
unusual that researchers fail to fulfill the expectation, which will be considered as scientific
misconduct. Currently, scientific misconduct is defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in
proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results .
1. Fabrication, sometimes referred as dry labbing , is an intentional behavior to make up results for
experiments that never occurs, which considered as highly unethical.
2. Falsification is defined as publishing misleading facts of experimentations or results, researchers
wilfully distort results to support hypothesis.
3. Plagiarism is often referred to pass other person s ideas, results or words without giving appropriate
credit.
These misconducts have significant effects. They will waste money and other resources, might even
pose potential risk to human health. In recent scandals such as Haruko Obokata s falsified results in
STAP cells and Jan Hendrik Schön s fabricated results in semiconductors, misconducts are not only
debarred those scientists, also damaged the pristine image of science and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ict In The Philippines

SeaWorld is an aquarium theme park that has locations in San Diego, Florida, Texas and Virginia. The

revolting that people still find enjoyment in watching these sophisticated mammals do tricks in a

The controversy of SeaWorld s whale captivity is not only a threat to the animals themselves, but to
the trainers and other whales in confinement as well. Three whales at the theme park had either
agonized or even drowned a human, meanwhile, It is not in an orca s nature to threaten humans (Orcas

have been abducted from their homes and brought into an environment millions of times smaller than
what they were used to. It is unquestionable that The artificial environment of captivity causes stress
and anxiety for orcas, resulting in aggressive behaviors toward other whales and humans (Orcas

male in the same enclosure. Since the male was from a different family group, he was often harassed

Pavlov s Classical Conditioning Vs. Operant Conditioning
Pavlov s Classical Conditioning vs. B.F. Skinner s Operant Conditioning
Bhavika D. Patel
Atlantic Community College
Abstract
Ivan Pavlov and B.F. Skinner both studied learning, in which they both did different experiments on
different animals and with different conditioning. Classical conditioning is the process in which two
stimuli become linked; once this association has been recognized, an originally neutral stimulus is
conditioned to provoke an involuntary response. The dogs in Pavlov s studies learned to associate
countless stimuli with the expectation of food, which caused in them salivating when the stimuli were
presented. Pavlov revealed how such associations are learned, and referred to this process as
conditioning. While the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The assistant s footsteps, for example, seemed to act like a trigger (the stimulus) for the dog to start
salivating (the response). Pavlov had discovered how associations develop through the process of
learning, which he referred to as conditioning (Licht, 2016) The dog was correlating the sound of
footsteps with the coming of food; it had been conditioned to subordinate certain sights and sounds
with eating. Intrigued by his discovery, Pavlov decided to focus his research of dogs salivation (which
he termed psychic secretions ) in these types of scenarios (Fancher Rutherford, 2012, p. 248; Watson,
1968). Pavlov s examinations led to the development of classical conditioning.
Conditioned Response Experiment
To prove the process of classical conditioning Pavlov had created a basic research plan. Pavlov had
followed up to his observation and examining the connection between stimulus and response. Pavlov
has concluded that the type of behavior he was studying was involuntary or reflexive salivating when
there is food is universal, whereas the connection of sound and footsteps and salivating is learned.
Pavlov basically states that the sound of footsteps is the stimulus and salivation is the response, which
occur during learning.
Pavlov experiments led him to surgically insert a tube into the dog s cheek to allow a proper collection
of saliva. The tube was led to a measuring device which Pavlov used to calculate exactly how much

Preparing Teachers for Certification Essay
Preparing Teachers for Certification
Each state has its own specific standards that are constantly under revision. The state of Maryland
issues teacher certificates for early child hood, elementary education, special education, and then
several areas of secondary education. Many of these areas are the traditional, core subjects but
certificates can also be obtained in areas like outdoor education, agriculture, data processing, or as a
work based learning coordinator. (Certification Educator Information System, n.d.) To gain
certification in each area, a prospective teacher must complete an approved program that leads to that
particular certification. The traditional method of certification is through college and university
programs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Maryland State Department of Education website contains a user friendly application process for
teachers, providing a method to apply for, renew, or reinstate a teaching certificate. It also supplies the
current listing of the approved programs in Maryland to receive certification as well as newer
requirements.
Maintaining Certification
Even after a teacher receives his/her initial certification, there is a good deal more that goes in to the
process. There are many things required of them in order to maintain certification and they are always
changing as new programs are put in effect and other rules invoked. For example, in July 1998, the
State Board of Education increased the number of reading credits for teachers at all educational levels.
(Certification educator information system, n.d.) There are different reading requirements now for
each certified teacher depending on the grade level they teach. Some states are also starting to require
teachers to go for their master s degree and others are offering monetary incentive to do so. Twenty
states require either a master s or graduate course work for teachers by the end of their first few years
on the job, up from only a few states a decade ago. Nearly all school districts give a salary bump for
the master s credential. (Golden, 2003)

developed a program for an advanced teacher

Slavery Misconceptions
Ideologies, social patterns, social structures or cultural customs influences an individual s perception
of history. History is used as a building block for upcoming generations, thus making it difficult to
accept differences among societies.
In order to differentiate between the good or bad difference we must examine the period in which
certain practices were in play. Charon provides an excellent example. She states Racism did not
precede or cause slavery; it is clear from the historical record that it was the existence of slavery that
influenced the development of racism. Slavery was developed for economic gain, not because one
group was seen to be inferior (Charon, 2013, p. 138). The misconception that racism is the cause for
slavery,

cave into the stereotypes the rest of the world believes. People will judge others because of who they

speech but why does this have to be used as a negative asset? We could use it as a tool instead of a

One of my favorite things to read are American stereotypes. Sometimes I will read the most hilarious
things and other times I am absolutely shocked by what I find. Americans are viewed as rude and
overweight people, who do not know anything about the world around them. (I do not like to be bound

  • 2. The Commercialization Of Hip Hop Since its conception, hip hop has been a very necessary and influential art form in the way that it gives a voice to people who would normally not have one. The fact that it was often the sole voice for a marginalized community meant that the genre has often shouldered the burden of being a genuine political force. Hip hop s role in addressing the concerns of urban Black Americans has led people to refer to it as CNN for Black people. However, in recent times, the commercialization of the genre (and growing popularity with white audiences) has generated a lot of criticism from many who feel that the essence of hip hop is being destroyed and it does not have as much of a meaningful effect on dispossessed Black youth as it used to have. ... • 3. My First Thoughts Of Buffalo State My first thoughts of Buffalo State, I had many different ideas on what I should expect. First I was very excited to step foot in a place that I never been. I love experiencing new places. Considering I never been to the Buffalo State college or even orientation I expected the best. I figured the campus be beautiful and very spacy. I researched facts about Buffalo State and I was very surprised to see how many students attended. I love the fact that the college presented a lot of diversity. I also expected that the college life would be very social since I asked the former students of Buffalo State about it. Of course I was a little nervous that there was a little chance that it May not be anything close to what I expected. The helping hands on the college life I expected would be top notch since there were so many students living on campus. When I received the letter that I would be attending the EOP program which I applied for I was very excited. I wasn t really sure exactly what EOP actually was but I hoped for the best. My mom gave me a brief description on what the program was. I didn t like the fact that it was three weeks long and the first thing that came to my mind when I heard that was my summer was coming to an end quite early. I didn t think too negative about it but I hoped that it gave me all the tips I needed to know about the college and the college life on campus. I like to think positive and expect positive because it s only right in my mind. When I step ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. North Central Ohio Rehabilitation Center Environmental Assessment North Central Ohio Rehabilitation Center initially was an addition for the JDC next door. However, the State of Ohio started the RECLAIM act as a response to juvenile court and Department of Youth correctional overcrowding (Ohio Department of Youth Services). RECLAIM stands for reasonable and equitable community and local alternatives to the incarceration of minors. This act was implemented in January of 1995 and there are currently only 12 community facilities in the state of Ohio. NCORC opened its door as a community facility because of this act in 1996 (Wrentmore, 2015). Initially, NCORC housed boys and girls in the facility. However, later on it was decided boys would be much easier to house. The mission statement at NCORC is to make a positive and instrumental difference in the lives of youth by providing rehabilitative treatment to meet their individual and collective needs to become productive law abiding citizens (North Central Rehabilation Center). It has not changed at all it the last five years. The facility very much follows this statement even when the boys are less than willing to try and make positive changes. NCORC is very much a public agency since it is certified and funded by state programs. NCORC serves Marion, Crawford, Hardin, Morrow, and Wyandot County. NCORC has a governing board with judges from each of the counties; it meets every other month for discussion (North Central Rehabilation Center). There is a Director and ... • 5. The Importance Of Sports Sports are one of the most watched pieces of entertainment in America, and around the world. People watch sports because you never know the outcomes of the games, and because you can root for your chosen team. When a person thinks a about a sport the first thing that comes to their head is probably something like football or soccer, but what about chess or even video games. Sports are usually thought of as games that require strength and physical skill to preform, but sports should be defined by competitiveness, strategy, and entertainment value. Sports that most people watch include some sort of use of strength, an example of this being football. Football does require strength to play well, but it is far more important to have strategy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If an average person were to play these video games against them, they would lose, by a lot, just like if average people played soccer against a professional team. So clearly these players possess a high amount of skill in their game so why is that skill not consider the same as that of an athlete. Most people would think sports should include a physical element sports require competitiveness even more. A sport in which there is no competition would be pointless, and more importantly no one would play. The competitive nature of sports is what makes them so popular. At the end of the day one team wins, and one team loses. Competition is what drives players to do their best so that they can win. The competitive nature of sports is what forms rivalries, and what drives fans to games. If there were no competition in sports, there would be no reason to watch. National and worldwide sports events, like the super bowl, world cup, or even video game tournaments, bring in some of the largest viewership s in the world. People want to find out what team or country is the best at the sport in question. Chess and Video games both meet this standard due to their extreme competitiveness. If something has no competitive element, it cannot call itself a sport. While sports require competition, they also require an amount of strategy. Sports require a strategy to win. If there were no strategy required ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bend It Like Beckham Religion Jessica Neale English 101 Vories 8 October 2015 Religious and Cultural Restrictions Bend it like Beckham explores the women s soccer world and shows how you might have to alternate and bend some of the rules in order to reach your goals. This film is very rich in diverse cultural concepts. Most of the struggle in this film was trying to belong with the cultural relationships due to their ancestry. Certain religions have limitations against what activities they can take part in and differentiating between right and wrong. I can relate to this article with the ministry work that I do across America and sometimes in third world countries. After taking multiple trips to these parts of the world like, Sri Lanka, and experiencing this entirely new universe, it opened my eyes in ways that I had never of imagined. We as white Americans are unbelievably over privileged. The society we live in today is home to some of the most ignorant people. When it comes to how lucky and privileged we are, living in a free country with the rights that we have should be one of the most grateful gifts given to us. In the film Bend it like Beckham, Jess came from a different cultural background which was holding her back from her dreams of playing soccer. The towns people ran Myers out of town. They came to his house and they were going to hang him, but something in his figure, so small, white and pitiful touched their hearts and they let him escape. Britain itself was changing rapidly due to colonial expansion, which brought new wealth, ideas and fashion, and there was much disturbance to both the people and the land with the act of enclosure, which may have meant more effective farming but less work. The middle of the eighteenth century was the height of what became known as the ?Age of Reason?, where people believed that thoughts and actions should be based on the material world. This would have greatly appealed to British people at a time where the government has become increasingly oppressive due to their fear of an uprising. The desire for stability was shown in the Church. However this gave many people more reason to feel the need for change as it said that salvation lay in duty and obedience and that children were merely blank pages to be educated and therefore gain decency and social responsibility. Dreams and imagination were distrusted and discouraged. Lyrical Ballads broke through all this, encouraging imagination and telling us to learn from the simplicity of children, therefore appealing to many people. The 1780?s saw lots of inspired political and social movements with people hoping to rid the world of slavery, promote women?s rights, protect workers, increase suffrage, promote tolerance and greater sexual freedom. If not protesting, citizens simply skip buying water or cut down on how much of it they buy immensely because they cannot afford the high rates (Runyan). My point is that charging consumers more than they can afford for a necessity does not guarantee profit. Private companies and investors assume the consumers have to buy a necessity like water, so they immorally take advantage and force some families to choose between water and other necessities. The article brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. She has a deep hatred towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. He portrays the social relations through marriage and kinship. Through the first marriage with Mr. and Mrs. Gradgrind Charles Dickens shows how an emotionless lifestyle can be troublesome. Mr. Gradfrind only cared about facts. He taught the kids that facts were the core of living. I agree somewhat that facts are very important but, just facts are not a proper life. Mr. Grandgrind home life was falling apart as you read on in the book. His wife admits that she is not happy within her marriage because of his fun less ways. His kids do not like him at all. He teaches his kids to not use their imagination or to play. This is not a happy warm family that we normally see in books. Which affects his kid s actions leading up Tom robbing Bounderby s bank. Another social relationship is the relationship between the people of Coke Town. The only thing that everyone can really connect to is money. That s their only goal is making money or working in factories. They do not act like humans. They act more like machines clocking in and out at the same time going home and dinner then bed. • 32. Scientific Ethics And Scientific Research Scientific research is a broad range of activities undertaken in systematic ways to advance knowledge and understandings. It benefits society based on the expectation that researches are conducted honestly, accurately and fairly. According to the conventional view, scientific research is a highly logical process, conducted objectively by scientists, inspected by peer scrutiny. However, it is not unusual that researchers fail to fulfill the expectation, which will be considered as scientific misconduct. Currently, scientific misconduct is defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results . 1. Fabrication, sometimes referred as dry labbing , is an intentional behavior to make up results for experiments that never occurs, which considered as highly unethical. 2. Falsification is defined as publishing misleading facts of experimentations or results, researchers wilfully distort results to support hypothesis. 3. Plagiarism is often referred to pass other person s ideas, results or words without giving appropriate credit. These misconducts have significant effects. They will waste money and other resources, might even pose potential risk to human health. In recent scandals such as Haruko Obokata s falsified results in STAP cells and Jan Hendrik Schön s fabricated results in semiconductors, misconducts are not only debarred those scientists, also damaged the pristine image of science and ... • 33. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ict In The Philippines Advances in technology have had a tremendous impact on society. The Philippines is one those developing country in Asia that seeks to uplift the technology advancement of the nation since ICT is considered a valuable tool that can be used for the economic development of the country. And in a region where other countries are already ahead in using ICT to their benefit, we are still struggling to make effective used of it. One of the advantages mentioned is that the development of ICT in the Philippines makes communication faster, reliable and efficient. Shinn (2001) noted that some Internet search engines can search 1.3 billion unique web addresses, search the equivalent of a 70 mile high stack of paper, or locate 14 million web pages about learning in less than one second. • 34. Seaworld, California And Virginia Since SeaWorld s opening in 1959, they are responsible for at least sixty two deaths of innocent whales (Krushel 1). This number will only continue to rise if SeaWorld does not stop capturing orcas. SeaWorld is an aquarium theme park that has locations in San Diego, Florida, Texas and Virginia. The park has orca shows where the whales perform on a regular basis and receive much controversy. It is revolting that people still find enjoyment in watching these sophisticated mammals do tricks in a concrete environment. Though many believe that parks like SeaWorld are necessary for educational purposes, they need to realize that these animals are not here so we can seize them from their natural habitats and watch them swim in cramped tanks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The controversy of SeaWorld s whale captivity is not only a threat to the animals themselves, but to the trainers and other whales in confinement as well. Three whales at the theme park had either agonized or even drowned a human, meanwhile, It is not in an orca s nature to threaten humans (Orcas Shouldn t Be Held Captive). The reason for the unexpected violence in the orcas is the fact that they have been abducted from their homes and brought into an environment millions of times smaller than what they were used to. It is unquestionable that The artificial environment of captivity causes stress and anxiety for orcas, resulting in aggressive behaviors toward other whales and humans (Orcas Shouldn t Be Held Captive). Oak Bay s Sealand of the Pacific held three whales, two females and one male in the same enclosure. Since the male was from a different family group, he was often harassed by the females. It is clear that the orcas at SeaWorld are not in a safer place than they were in the wild and should have rights to protect them from being kept as drudgers by places like SeaWorld. • 35. Pavlov s Classical Conditioning Vs. Operant Conditioning Pavlov s Classical Conditioning vs. B.F. Skinner s Operant Conditioning Bhavika D. Patel Atlantic Community College Abstract Ivan Pavlov and B.F. Skinner both studied learning, in which they both did different experiments on different animals and with different conditioning. Classical conditioning is the process in which two stimuli become linked; once this association has been recognized, an originally neutral stimulus is conditioned to provoke an involuntary response. The dogs in Pavlov s studies learned to associate countless stimuli with the expectation of food, which caused in them salivating when the stimuli were presented. Pavlov revealed how such associations are learned, and referred to this process as conditioning. While the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The assistant s footsteps, for example, seemed to act like a trigger (the stimulus) for the dog to start salivating (the response). Pavlov had discovered how associations develop through the process of learning, which he referred to as conditioning (Licht, 2016) The dog was correlating the sound of footsteps with the coming of food; it had been conditioned to subordinate certain sights and sounds with eating. Intrigued by his discovery, Pavlov decided to focus his research of dogs salivation (which he termed psychic secretions ) in these types of scenarios (Fancher Rutherford, 2012, p. 248; Watson, 1968). Pavlov s examinations led to the development of classical conditioning. Conditioned Response Experiment To prove the process of classical conditioning Pavlov had created a basic research plan. Pavlov had followed up to his observation and examining the connection between stimulus and response. Pavlov has concluded that the type of behavior he was studying was involuntary or reflexive salivating when there is food is universal, whereas the connection of sound and footsteps and salivating is learned. Pavlov basically states that the sound of footsteps is the stimulus and salivation is the response, which occur during learning. Pavlov experiments led him to surgically insert a tube into the dog s cheek to allow a proper collection of saliva. The tube was led to a measuring device which Pavlov used to calculate exactly how much the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Preparing Teachers for Certification Essay Preparing Teachers for Certification Each state has its own specific standards that are constantly under revision. The state of Maryland issues teacher certificates for early child hood, elementary education, special education, and then several areas of secondary education. Many of these areas are the traditional, core subjects but certificates can also be obtained in areas like outdoor education, agriculture, data processing, or as a work based learning coordinator. (Certification Educator Information System, n.d.) To gain certification in each area, a prospective teacher must complete an approved program that leads to that particular certification. The traditional method of certification is through college and university programs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Maryland State Department of Education website contains a user friendly application process for teachers, providing a method to apply for, renew, or reinstate a teaching certificate. It also supplies the current listing of the approved programs in Maryland to receive certification as well as newer requirements. Maintaining Certification Even after a teacher receives his/her initial certification, there is a good deal more that goes in to the process. There are many things required of them in order to maintain certification and they are always changing as new programs are put in effect and other rules invoked. For example, in July 1998, the State Board of Education increased the number of reading credits for teachers at all educational levels. (Certification educator information system, n.d.) There are different reading requirements now for each certified teacher depending on the grade level they teach. Some states are also starting to require teachers to go for their master s degree and others are offering monetary incentive to do so. Twenty states require either a master s or graduate course work for teachers by the end of their first few years on the job, up from only a few states a decade ago. Nearly all school districts give a salary bump for the master s credential. (Golden, 2003) The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is a non profit organization that has developed a program for an advanced teacher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Slavery Misconceptions Ideologies, social patterns, social structures or cultural customs influences an individual s perception of history. History is used as a building block for upcoming generations, thus making it difficult to accept differences among societies. In order to differentiate between the good or bad difference we must examine the period in which certain practices were in play. Charon provides an excellent example. She states Racism did not precede or cause slavery; it is clear from the historical record that it was the existence of slavery that influenced the development of racism. Slavery was developed for economic gain, not because one group was seen to be inferior (Charon, 2013, p. 138). The misconception that racism is the cause for slavery, ... Essay Rheumatoid Arthritis Rheumatoid Arthritis Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic syndrome that is characterized by inflammation of the peripheral joints, but it may also involve the lungs, heart, blood vessels, and eyes. The prevalence of this autoimmune disease is between 0.3% to 1.5% of the population in the United States (Feinberg, pp 815). It affects women two to three times more often than men, and the onset of RA is usually between 25 and 50 years of age, but it can occur at any age (Reed, pp 584). The Robinson Bashall Functional Assessment, as well as the Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire, is a functional assessment that allows the therapist to get a better understanding of the practical capabilities of patients that are suffering from RA. The Assessment of Motor and Process Skills allows an accurate estimate of ability to do IADLs based on performance of three tasks. Treatment addresses the problems identified by evaluation of the patient, and often are guided by the progression of the disease. Some specific goals to work on with an individual with RA may be to maintain joint mobility, prevent joint deformity, maintain or increase strength and functional ability, balancing activity with rest, develop problem solving skills to modify daily activities at home and at work to protect joints and preserve energy, and especially promote psychosocial adaptations to deal with their chronic disability. This is the literal meaning of American, but isn t there more? Most just look on a shallow level of what the United States were actually founded on. People will say that this country is based only on having rights which may be true, however we have many freedoms here that citizens of other countries cannot even begin to comprehend This community is full of citizens who have strong views politically. Many will just assume things and cave into the stereotypes the rest of the world believes. People will judge others because of who they are, what they love, or their beliefs. The first amendment does clearly state we have a freedom of speech but why does this have to be used as a negative asset? We could use it as a tool instead of a weapon, used to criticize another being. People have started to believe in stereotypes again with a trust so great, that I will never be able to understand it.
