Examples Of Hope In Conflict
Strength and Hope in Conflict How could a circumstance change by showing hope or strength
throughout? What really happens when people show courage and are optimistic when faced with a life
or death situation? There are many events and stories throughout history that show someone having
courage or hope, Anne Frank, Winston Churchill, and Elie Wiesel to name a few. They were all facing
the same conflict, World War II and the tyrannous reign of Hitler and his Nazis. They all showed hope,
courage, and faith in some of the hardest times of their lives, and it ultimately changed how their lives,
and countless other lives, were continued. Winston Churchill was faced with an immense obstacle to
overcome. He had just recently been appointed as the Prime Minister of Great Britain, and during this
time World War II was just beginning. Churchill had to decide what route he would take for war. In his
speech labeled Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat , he declares to Parliament that without victory there is

Multi Dimensional Factors Which Influence The Planning,...
This report aims to discuss the multi dimensional factors which influence the planning,
implementation, and the evaluation of health interventions. The first part is the discussion of the
impact of the determinant factors such as the demographic distribution of populations, the political
values, the religious beliefs, the human values, the ethnicity, and traditions in the whole process, as
mentioned above of health interventions. The next section is about the public views and attitudes on
health and the factor that can alter health state such as illness, as well as the public attitudes towards
health and medical advocates. Lastly, this report will talk the different influences of the interaction
from cultural, social, national and international policy on the planning, implementation, and
evaluation of health interventions in New Zealand.
Demographic Distribution of Populations
Rapid influx of migrants with diverse ethnicity and cultural background, with different social and
economic status, age group that varies from birth, active years, and geriatric are factors that
contributes to changes in population demographics, that has specific demands which needs special
focus and attention. More people in the societies prefer to settle now in city than in countryside areas.
The rapid rate of urbanization in growing regions test the capability of governments to effectively
design and run into the necessities of the rising numbers of city dwellers. As metropolis residents

Langston Hughes Research Paper
In 1919, when Langston Hughes was seventeen years old, he spent the summer with his father, Jim
Hughes, in Toluca, Mexico. Langston had not seen his father since he was a small child, and he was
excited about making the trip. However, during this visit, no affectionate bond would develop between
Langston and Jim. Jim Hughes was a cold, difficult man, who was driven by ambition to make money
and achieve respect. He had moved to Mexico to avoid segregation and racial injustice in the United
States. As the manager of an electric company and owner of a ranch and mines, Jim expressed
contempt for black Americans who continued to submit to segregation and live in poverty.

Langston had no playmates because Mary Langston lived in a run down, white neighborhood. He was
afraid to leave his yard, where he was safe from rowdy white boys who chased and teased him about
the second hand clothes and cast off women s shoes that he wore.
Langston spent many hours sitting on a stool beside his grandmother, who read him stories from the
Bible or from his favorite book, Grimm s Fairy Tales. Her long wavy hair had very little gray in it, and
in her ears she wore the small gold earrings Langston s grandfather left her. Her lips were thin, and her
skin, wrinkled like an Indian squaw s, was a lighter shade of brown than Langston s.
Carrie Hughes worked in Topeka as a stenographer for a black attorney and as a clerk for a newspaper.
Occasionally, on weekends, she would take Langston to Kansas City. His Uncle Dessalines owned a
barbershop in a black neighborhood, where people s lifestyles were far different from that of his strict
grandmother in Lawrence. Langston roamed the streets near the barbershop. He played the
nickelodeon and listened to street musicians playing the blues.
Mary Langston was a devoted grandmother to her grandson. (Yale Collection of American Literature,

The Different Types of Schools in Relation to Educational...
The different types of schools in relation to educational stages and school governance. The four main
types of mainstream state schools that are funded by local authority are known as maintained schools.
All children in England between the ages of five and 16 are entitled to a free place at a state school.
Most go to state schools. Children normally start primary school at the age of four or five, but many
schools now have a reception year for four year olds. Children normally leave at the age of 11, moving
on to secondary school. Most state schools admit both boys and girls, though some are single sex. The
four main types of state school all receive funding from local authorities. They all follow the National
Curriculum and are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with community schools, the local authority employs the school s staff and sets the admissions
criteria. The school land and buildings are normally owned by a charity, often a religious organisation,
which also appoints some of the members of the governing body. Specialist schools Though they
follow the National Curriculum, specialist schools focus on a particular subject area. Examples
include sports, technology or visual arts. Specialist schools operate in partnership with private sector
sponsors and receive additional Government funding, allowing them to establish distinct identities
through their chosen specialism and achieve targets for raising standards, while working within the
requirements of the National Curriculum. Any maintained secondary school in England can apply for
specialist status, in the following areas: arts, business and enterprise, engineering, humanities,
languages, mathematics and computing, music, science, sports, technology or applied learning.
Special Schools with secondary age students can specialise in one of the four areas of the special
educational needs (SEN) Code of Practice. Specialist Schools which meet a range of criteria can also
opt for a second specialism in a range of curriculum and system leadership areas. State schools with
particular characteristics Within the state schools system described above, there are a number of

Essex Hemphill s Commitments
In this modern, judgmental society, countless people are held back because they are afraid of what
others will think of them. Many times this can lead to depression, anxiety, or living an unfulfilling life.
Essex Hemphill wrote a poem called Commitments in the point of view of a young man who
experienced the previously mentioned complications. The most prominent issue in the poem is the
speaker s will to admit his sexuality. He is gay, which would most likely be disproved of in his
southern culture. The speaker is left unfulfilled due to the fact that he lives the life of a person he is
not, hiding his true self. He is afraid to show his family who he actually is because he is afraid of not
being accepted. In return, he is miserable and feels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This speaker is derived from Essex Hemphill, given their shared skin color and sexual preference, but
can be compared to the lives of many people. Specifically, this poem is about the speaker s struggles
of being a gay man. The feelings the speaker has in his situation can be related to countless other
situations as well. In this society, past, present, and future, people will be judged, so many will hold
themselves back to avoid judgment. Essex Hemphill constructed a speaker that summarizes a
complicated situation. He is prompted to conceal himself, feel utterly miserable in his life, but still
looks completely fine on the outside. Overall, the speaker feels the need to secrete himself in order to
avoid the discrimination of his loved ones. In all of this the speaker becomes miserable, also hides
this, and illustrates a satisfied

European Colonialism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart, and the reading African Challenge both look at the
consequences and benefits of European colonialism on the Igbo people and African culture. The novel
s main character is Okonkwo, who is the head the Umuofia clan, a Nigerian tribe. One of Okonkwo s
personal mission is to not be like his father, who he viewed as a coward and weak. Okonkwo s
accomplishes this mission by being obsessed with masculinity and viewing feminity in a derogatory
way. Okonkwo s hold over his clan is tested by the infusion of missionaries and along with them
colonialism into Nigeria. The African Challenge also talks about the European missionaries and their
mission to spread Christianity amongst the Igbo people and also about the beliefs that both societies
had about eachother. Through the incorporation of the Igbo language throughout his novel, and the
interactions of the Europeans with the Igbo people and their customs presented in both the novel and
African Challenge, we can see both the benefits and consequences that European colonialism had on
the Igbo society and African culture.
Both readings highlight how the Igbo people s insistence on sorcery and ancestral spirits leads to
conflict between the Europeans and the Igbo people. The first instance of conflict that arises in the
novel, is when a missionary to convert a village woman to Christianity, and accidentally kills an
ancestral spirit. This leads to the villagers burning the missionary s huts. The

Effects Of Depression On The Elderly
After the loss of a loved one, people experience a period of grief that usually includes unpleasant
thoughts, emotional distress, and withdrawal from normal daily activities. These unstable emotions
can be a sign of depression. Depression can be treated by medication, support, therapy and leisure
activities.
Issues Caring for the Elderly
After the loss of Georges wife, bereavement or normal grief would be considered normal.
Bereavement usually decreases after one to two years and may return around holidays or special

guidelines state otherwise, or under other stated conditions (e.g., local, state, or federal laws). George
would be informed at the beginning of the counseling relationship of those areas that limit
professional confidentiality (Corey, 2011).
George is covered under Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Michael,
Georges son, brought him into the agency to seek therapy and HIPAA will not allow Michael to be in
the room without George s written and signed consent. George s personal information and
conversations are confidential not unless otherwise stated by a judge that George is incompetent and

Pros And Cons Of Buddhism
This reading summary is from: Basics of Buddhism by Public Broadcasting Service. Buddhism is a
major global religion with a complex history and system of beliefs (Basics of Buddhism). Buddhism is
everywhere in the world and is considered a very welcoming and peaceful religion. Although I have
met many people who think it is not very common in America, I have actually met quite a few
Buddhists. Buddhism originates from around 500 BC. Siddhartha Gautama lived from around 566 to
480 BC and is considered the founder of Buddhism. Gautama was born the son of an Indian warrior
king into the Hindu caste system. His life was considered to be a lavish one due to the privilege of his

According to Buddhist beliefs, there are six planes that one can be reborn in. Three are three positive
realms and three negative or unfortunate realms. If one has positive karma, they are reborn into one of
the fortunate realms. The three positive realms are the realm of the demigods, realm of the gods, and
the realm of men. The highest realm of rebirth is believed to be the realm of man. To be reborn a
human, one must have good karma in their previous life. The three unfortunate realms are animals,
ghosts, and hell. If one has bad karma, they may be reborn into one of these realms and experience
untold suffering. In order to have the opportunity to achieve Nirvana, one must be in the realm of man.
Those born in this realm are considered to be lucky due to the number of living things. According to
this belief, all of us should consider ourselves lucky, and make the most out of our lives. Overall, I
really like the Buddhist principals and teachings. I think Buddhist instill good morals into everyone,
and if everyone had good morals, it would make the world a better place. I also like how a person can
keep their own religion and are still welcome to study the Buddhist teachings. Another thing I like
about the Buddhist teachings is that they welcome questions to the teachings. Buddhism encourages us
to find our own truths through these teachings. Lastly, I think Buddhism is very welcoming and I love
the fact that they are truly a religion of

English Exploration Of North America Essay
English Exploration of North America
The first British sponsored explorer to come to the Americas was John Cabot. King Henry VII of
England asked him to make several voyages in 1497 and 1498. He reached Cape Breton and Baffin
Islands in what is now Canada and he also went to Greenland. He was lost at sea during his second
voyage. He brought back word that there were many fish available in the waters off the coast. After
Cabot, due to internal religious fighting, England did very little in exploring the New World until the
1570s.
In the 1570s Queen Elizabeth I encouraged exploration of the islands in northern Canada to look for a
Northwest Passage. Sir Humphrey Gilbert made several voyages to eastern Canada and established St.

With the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, England replaced Spain as the dominant world power
which lead to a decrease in the Spanish influence in the New World and the increase in British
interests, which shaped the future of the Americas for hundreds of years to come.
The first successful British colony in the New World was made at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607 by the
London Company. The London Company was an English stock company created by royal charter with
the purpose of establishing colonial settlements in North America. Jamestown served as the capital of
the colony for 83 years, from 1616 until 1699. Jamestown colony was followed by Plymouth,
Massachusetts, in 1620. Plymouth was founded by a group of Separatists who came to be known as
Pilgrims. It was the first sizable permanent English settlement in the New England region. They were
able to establish a treaty with the local Indian people, which helped with their success. In 1691
Plymouth, which occupied a large part of the modern state of Massachusetts by this point, merged
with the Massachusetts Bay Colony and became the Province of Massachusetts

successful by measuring their sales and their earnings growth. Companies are able to tell how
successful they are by their overall financial strength and their ability to retain customers (Gamble et

clientele who are more active customers, than they previously had with their soda clientele. They were

The Games Of Thrones By George R.r
Introduction
The Games of Thrones is a 1st book in A song of Ice and Fire . It is a fantastic adaptation of George
R.R. Martin. The story of The Games of Thrones is original , multi layered with lots of sub plots, and
is non formulaic. It is incredibly exciting ,joyful, suspenseful ,mysterious, and very unpredictable and
there is no way for you to know what is going to happen in this novel. The story is also very violent .
The characters are well developed and enjoyable whereas some characters are even clever and
secretive. Unlike most fantasy books, Martin s characters are not totally good or evil. His characters
are also very personable so we can think of them as real people and can develop strong emotions
towards them throughout the novel. Many of the characters in the novel The Games of Thrones are
killed off and new ones appear throughout the novel. The title sequence consists of a three
dimensional map of the world, which includes the continents of Westeros and Essos, located on the
inner surface of a sphere. At the center of the sphere is a light source, a sun surrounded by an astrolabe
like arrangement of rotating rings. The Game of Thrones is set in the SevenKingdoms of Westeros of
Medieval Europe. Here in the novel The Games of Thrones we see that brothers plots against each
other.

as the social standing or class of an individual or group. It is often measured as a combination of
education, income and occupation. Socioeconomic inequality is the mal and unequal treatment of

greater chance of passing away each year, and 52 percent of less fortunate females have a greater

that if all Canadians were as healthy as the top 20 percent of income earners, there would be
approximately 40,000 fewer deaths each year. (Bryant, 2014, para. 4) According to the US Census

lifespan of rich people are increasingly longer than the lifespan of the poor American people.
According to Hamilton Health Sciences by the late 1990s the rich were living 4.5 years longer, and the

Cribs/Bassinets/Playards Most bassinets are too bulky to be easy to carry along on adventures outside
of the home. Most of them do not fold up or fit inside of a storage container the way that the Lotus
does. Travel cribs are still rather large cribs that are difficult to carry if you must travel via a plane.
Playards are the same way. Many of them are playpens that are designed in a way that allows them to
fold up flat, but not fold up small. Lotus products fold up small. They are designed for traveling, but
they are comfortable enough to allow you to use them without worry when at home. The Guava

Hamlet Oedipus Complex Essay
People searching for their significant other tend to be subconsciously attracted to individuals
possessing attributes similar to their parents . According to psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, this
tendency stems from the natural course of suppressing one s inherent Oedipal inclinations. The
Oedipus Complex is Freud s explication of a child s relationship with the parent of the opposite sex, it
is a phase that every man experiences as a child. This phase entails the desire to replace the father
figure as he creates competition for the mother s attention. According to Freud, in order to overcome
the Oedipus, individuals must repress their desire for sexual interaction with their mother; failure to
overcome this phase results in societal chaos. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is thy union here?/ Follow my mother! (Shakespeare, 5.2.318 320)
This is when Hamlet kills Claudius with his own poison after inflicting a fatal wound with a poisoned
blade, thus ending him twice and ensuring his inevitable demise; thus allowing Hamlet to die in peace,
knowing that he avenged his father free from corrupt or ulterior motives. Throughout Shakespeare s
Hamlet, Hamlet finds excuses to delay the assassination of his uncle, Claudius. This is the result of the
Oedipus complex whereby Hamlet struggles to overcome his sexual desires for his mother. Though he
strives to avenge his father s untimely demise, he is unable to fulfill his request until after his mother
dies, for he fears the inevitable consequences of his actions. Primarily, Hamlet s Oedipal urges
resurface when they are triggered by his uncle actualizing his childhood fantasies, through the murder
of his father and the incestuous courtship with his mother. Secondly, there is a conflict in interest
between Hamlet avenging his father and engaging in a sexual relationship with his mother by the same
means that his uncle took to assume the throne. Finally, Hamlet is able to overcome his fear of

Imidazoline Essay
Present there is an enormous deal of scientific attention in the field of Imidazoline derivatives.
Imidazoline is a Nitrogen compound and it can be utilized in organic dyes as nitrogenous electron
donors since it introduces additional electron donors at position 2. Because of high molar extinction
coefficient Imidazoline and other molecular structures containing nitrogen developed as metal free
organic dyes. Usually, metal free organic dyes have the apparent molecular structure of the electron
donor element and the acceptor element connected by the conjugated chain (D π A). 2 imidazoline is a
one of the isomer derived from the imidazole. Imidazoline derivatives are pharmaceutically and
biologically very significant. Imidazolines exhibit major pharmacological and biological activities
such as antidepressive [1], antihyperglycemic [2] , antihypercholesterolemic[3], anti inflammatory[4]

There are many ways to describe and explain what a refugee is. A refugee is a person who has been

fear of being persecuted for various reasons, such as; race, religion, political issues. Majority of
refugees prefer to return back home as soon as it is safe and when the problem is being resolved. An

Abstract:
In order to cope up with the growing problem of traffic congestion several means and methods have
been implemented. For reducing this problem,an efficient method for traffic monitoring can be
implemented by providing the availability of the parking spaces in advance. Since there exist no such
system we intend to develop one using sensors and RFIDs.In proposed system, we consider car park
equipped with sensors(IR) which checks for the availability of parking slots and updates the
information periodically. This updated information is provided to the user via an android application.
Using this application user gets directed towards the parking slot by using the shortest path
algorithm(Dijikstra s). Also to avoid traffic congestion due to parking charges, car is associated with a
unique RFID tag for the wallet parking.

Sign Language Importance
The Importance of Basic Sign Language Police officers should be required to learn the basics of sign
language. They are required to make sure that the individual they are communicating with are being
heard. That includes qualified interpreters, and assisted listening devices. Unfortunately these are
being ignored or not met with standard. Law enforcement should be required to take a basic sign
language class before entering the police force in order to help serve and protect people in the deaf
community. Police officers learning sign language can save the lives for the future. Since 1997 there
have been forty seven reported cases of crimes against deaf or hard of hearing people.(Heard s
statstitics) Nine deaf or hard of hearing people have been shot and killed by police since 1997; six of
those have happened in the last three years. That is a huge increase in shooting against the deaf
community. With all of the cases that have been reported none were given an interpreter. All law
enforcement is required to ensure effective communication with individuals who are deaf or hard of
hearing. There is laws in place to help protect the deaf or hard of hearing community, but in a good
deal of cases the police either ignore or are ignorant about these laws. The four most recent cases have
also been cases the police officers fired shots before even communication was given to the individual.
Some of those cases were also cases against Hispanics or blacks being in the call of

Reflection Of Astroversions And The Value Of An Introverts
After countless years of being relegated to the back burner of society, introverts are finally getting
their moment in the spotlight. That said, misconceptions still abound and we ve yet to shake the
common admonitions to come out of our shell and step out of our comfort zone.
Introverts differ from extroverts in that we gain energy from spending time alone, rather than through
social interaction. The traits that separate us from extroverts are hardwired into our brains it s not
something we can simply change at whim.
But there s nothing wrong with being an introvert.
We don t need to be fixed we re perfectly fine just the way we are. Trying to change or be someone we
re not is a waste of energy. Besides, introverts have a lot of value to offer the world. We re
introspective, full of insight and reflection. We re self aware and observant. We re caring and loyal
friends. We focus on projects intently, think creatively, and solve problems we re excellent employees
and empathetic leaders.
It took me a long time to embrace my introversion. Like many introverts, I thought my preference for
staying in with a good book on a Friday night meant there was something wrong with me. However,
once I educated myself on introversion and its special qualities, I was able to accept myself for who I
was and better maintain my work and personal relationships.
It s not always easy moving through the world as an introvert. If you re struggling to embrace your
introverted nature, consider incorporating the following three methods of self care into your daily life.
Practice Gratitude
When you re feeling down and someone tells you to count your blessings , it s hard not to tell them
right where to shove it. Empty platitudes rarely make us feel better in fact, they often end up making
us feel worse. That said, gratitude does have a surprisingly powerful impact when it comes to the
world of self care. Studies have shown that people who practice self care through gratitude have fewer
health issues, feel more positively about the future, are more satisfied with their lives, and get more
sleep and feel more refreshed upon waking.
Keeping a gratitude journal a daily or weekly diary of things you re grateful for

thought there were a few dozen people like him hiding out, but after the guerillas had seen what
happened to people who, in his words, tried to be heroes, they were all keeping well out of site from
all enemies. Soon after the bridge was blown up, some potential witnesses tracked the group down and
finally knew who they are: Seven College teenagers who camped up the mountains while the war had
happened. When they went back home unnoticed, the town was already in a great mess, and their
families trapped inside the showground. They said firstly the group had gathered petrol tankers, then
concealed motorbikes in full shape, and finally planned a cattle distraction to everyone on the bridge.
Two of them rushed to light up the petrol tankers, and as fast as possible, the four of them out there
reached for the concealed motorbikes. Thankfully, the four teenagers around the event drove for more
than half a minute, and suddenly the bridge went BOOM, but all the feral invaders on the bridge were

also regarded as main staple food crop in many developing countries. However, banana has very short
shelf life, is very easy to get decomposed and often affected by many postharvest diseases, which
cause a lot of serious impacts on banana distribution, especially for the exported bananas. Among all

sporotrichoides. Nevertheless, fungi of one species may have different pathogenic levels, it is reported
that, F. semitectum and F. verticillioides have the biggest pathogenicity (Lassois et al. 2010).
3 Environment Conditions for Disease Development
The occurrence of banana crown rot is usually influenced by different per harvest sectors. The
development of disease is partly related to seasonal factor. Generally, the banana crown rot is more
often occurs during summer (March ~ September), while the rot grows slowly in the cold season
(October to February) (Lassois et al. 2010). Temperature between 25°C to 30°C is appropriate for the
fungi to grow dramatically, and the growth declines sharply when banana was stored in cool
temperature, around 13°C (Finlay and Brown 1993). Besides, geographical variation is also influence
the occurrence of crown rot, it is reported that the banana crown rot development at higher altitude
(500m) is much less than at relative lower altitude (80m) in Cameroon (Ewané et al. 2012). The
duration of time between harvesting and cooling is also of great significance when it comes to the
disease development. The recommended fruit elapsed time should be no longer than 48 hours from
harvesting to storing in refrigerator (Finlay and Brown 1993). In

Audiences The word conglomeration is defined as the formation of a large company by the merging of
separate and diverse small firms. Media conglomerate is a large company or corporation formed by
merging of different small media outlets such as TV, radio, newspapers, and internet. Big companies
tend to buy out other smaller companies in the market to increase their revenue by increasing their
viewership, and to control the smaller companies resources. This creates media oligopoly by which
few firms dominate the market. This media conglomeration is threatening democracy because of its

Northcliffe Media Company lost 37% of these newspapers advertising revenue (Toynbee 1). Also,

conglomeration of media needs lots of attention as it is threatening democracy in Canada.
Conglomeration of media made corporations care about the business part of the media more than the

two different perspectives on this matter. While Johnson provides reasoning on why we should fight

speech offered many relevant points but the one that stood out and made me strongly support him was
him pointing out the unfairness that affects American citizens. But it is estimated that we spend

Political Participation Essay
American political parties are unique, because the only qualification is self identification. Of course,
several factors impact how an individual politically identifies themselves. These factors may include
family life, childhood environment, etc. One major aspect is education level. How an individual s
education level impacts their political self identification in the political spectrum is a well researched
topic. Education influences the binary decision to participate in politics, whether it be through voting
or some other form of political activism. Education level also shapes an individual s various policy
positions. Most directly, education (specifically political literacy) affects how well they perceive the
larger political landscape and where they fit into it.

The Compromise Of Food In Louisiana
People in Houston were told to evacuate their homes and to leave everything behind, due to the
hurricane, but they couldn t leave everything so they compromised and only brought with them the
things that were an absolute necessity. Not a lot of people are able to compromise so easily. For some
people this is a hard subject to grasp. Food is a major thing to in society today that not many people
can agree on. Food is such a huge part of our everyday lives, but when two people are asked what they
want to eat it seems that no one can come to an agreement. Food, however, is, something beautiful to
be shared with people (M.F.K. Fisher), not something to cause problems and arguments when a
decision about the food can t be made. More often than not it s really hard to compromise, but when it
s for the greater good and taking in account people other than yourself, there s a certain satisfaction
earned. In order to be considered a well rounded person in society, it is inevitable that one has the
ability to compromise. I had to experience compromise first hand in the humid, swampy, hot, seafood
loving, Louisiana. Four regions of south Louisiana were settled by the Cajuns. (Ducote). So it s
probably pretty safe to say that Louisiana houses some pretty good, traditional Cajun food. This
experience has helped me to realize my place in our culture when in comes to being a cordial,
agreeable person.

  • 2. Examples Of Hope In Conflict Strength and Hope in Conflict How could a circumstance change by showing hope or strength throughout? What really happens when people show courage and are optimistic when faced with a life or death situation? There are many events and stories throughout history that show someone having courage or hope, Anne Frank, Winston Churchill, and Elie Wiesel to name a few. They were all facing the same conflict, World War II and the tyrannous reign of Hitler and his Nazis. They all showed hope, courage, and faith in some of the hardest times of their lives, and it ultimately changed how their lives, and countless other lives, were continued. Winston Churchill was faced with an immense obstacle to overcome. He had just recently been appointed as the Prime Minister of Great Britain, and during this time World War II was just beginning. Churchill had to decide what route he would take for war. In his speech labeled Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat , he declares to Parliament that without victory there is no ... • 4. Langston Hughes Research Paper In 1919, when Langston Hughes was seventeen years old, he spent the summer with his father, Jim Hughes, in Toluca, Mexico. Langston had not seen his father since he was a small child, and he was excited about making the trip. However, during this visit, no affectionate bond would develop between Langston and Jim. Jim Hughes was a cold, difficult man, who was driven by ambition to make money and achieve respect. He had moved to Mexico to avoid segregation and racial injustice in the United States. As the manager of an electric company and owner of a ranch and mines, Jim expressed contempt for black Americans who continued to submit to segregation and live in poverty. He was afraid to leave his yard, where he was safe from rowdy white boys who chased and teased him about the second hand clothes and cast off women s shoes that he wore. Langston spent many hours sitting on a stool beside his grandmother, who read him stories from the Bible or from his favorite book, Grimm s Fairy Tales. Her long wavy hair had very little gray in it, and in her ears she wore the small gold earrings Langston s grandfather left her. Her lips were thin, and her skin, wrinkled like an Indian squaw s, was a lighter shade of brown than Langston s. Carrie Hughes worked in Topeka as a stenographer for a black attorney and as a clerk for a newspaper. Occasionally, on weekends, she would take Langston to Kansas City. His Uncle Dessalines owned a barbershop in a black neighborhood, where people s lifestyles were far different from that of his strict grandmother in Lawrence. Langston roamed the streets near the barbershop. He played the nickelodeon and listened to street musicians playing the blues. Mary Langston was a devoted grandmother to her grandson. European Colonialism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart, and the reading African Challenge both look at the consequences and benefits of European colonialism on the Igbo people and African culture. The novel s main character is Okonkwo, who is the head the Umuofia clan, a Nigerian tribe. One of Okonkwo s personal mission is to not be like his father, who he viewed as a coward and weak. Okonkwo s accomplishes this mission by being obsessed with masculinity and viewing feminity in a derogatory way. Okonkwo s hold over his clan is tested by the infusion of missionaries and along with them colonialism into Nigeria. The African Challenge also talks about the European missionaries and their mission to spread Christianity amongst the Igbo people and also about the beliefs that both societies had about eachother. Through the incorporation of the Igbo language throughout his novel, and the interactions of the Europeans with the Igbo people and their customs presented in both the novel and African Challenge, we can see both the benefits and consequences that European colonialism had on the Igbo society and African culture. Both readings highlight how the Igbo people s insistence on sorcery and ancestral spirits leads to conflict between the Europeans and the Igbo people. The highest realm of rebirth is believed to be the realm of man. To be reborn a human, one must have good karma in their previous life. The three unfortunate realms are animals, ghosts, and hell. If one has bad karma, they may be reborn into one of these realms and experience untold suffering. In order to have the opportunity to achieve Nirvana, one must be in the realm of man. Those born in this realm are considered to be lucky due to the number of living things. According to this belief, all of us should consider ourselves lucky, and make the most out of our lives. Overall, I really like the Buddhist principals and teachings. I think Buddhist instill good morals into everyone, and if everyone had good morals, it would make the world a better place. I also like how a person can keep their own religion and are still welcome to study the Buddhist teachings. Another thing I like about the Buddhist teachings is that they welcome questions to the teachings. Buddhism encourages us to find our own truths through these teachings. Lastly, I think Buddhism is very welcoming and I love the fact that they are truly a religion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout Shakespeare s Hamlet, Hamlet finds excuses to delay the assassination of his uncle, Claudius. This is the result of the Oedipus complex whereby Hamlet struggles to overcome his sexual desires for his mother. Though he strives to avenge his father s untimely demise, he is unable to fulfill his request until after his mother dies, for he fears the inevitable consequences of his actions. Primarily, Hamlet s Oedipal urges resurface when they are triggered by his uncle actualizing his childhood fantasies, through the murder of his father and the incestuous courtship with his mother. Secondly, there is a conflict in interest between Hamlet avenging his father and engaging in a sexual relationship with his mother by the same means that his uncle took to assume the throne. Finally, Hamlet is able to overcome his fear of succumbing to his sexual desires because of his mother s death therefore allowing him to murder his uncle. Reflection Of Astroversions And The Value Of An Introverts After countless years of being relegated to the back burner of society, introverts are finally getting their moment in the spotlight. That said, misconceptions still abound and we ve yet to shake the common admonitions to come out of our shell and step out of our comfort zone. Introverts differ from extroverts in that we gain energy from spending time alone, rather than through social interaction. The traits that separate us from extroverts are hardwired into our brains it s not something we can simply change at whim. But there s nothing wrong with being an introvert. We don t need to be fixed we re perfectly fine just the way we are. Trying to change or be someone we re not is a waste of energy. Besides, introverts have a lot of value to offer the world. We re introspective, full of insight and reflection. We re self aware and observant. We re caring and loyal friends. We focus on projects intently, think creatively, and solve problems we re excellent employees and empathetic leaders. It took me a long time to embrace my introversion. Like many introverts, I thought my preference for staying in with a good book on a Friday night meant there was something wrong with me. However, once I educated myself on introversion and its special qualities, I was able to accept myself for who I was and better maintain my work and personal relationships. It s not always easy moving through the world as an introvert. If you re struggling to embrace your introverted nature, consider incorporating the following three methods of self care into your daily life. Practice Gratitude When you re feeling down and someone tells you to count your blessings , it s hard not to tell them right where to shove it. A Comparison Of Vietnam And Martin Luther King s Speech War is often seen as a sensitive and debatable topic and one of the most controversial wars to have ever been fought was the Vietnam War. In Lyndon B, Johnson s Speech on Vietnam (September 29.1967) and Martin Luther King s speech, Why I am opposed to the War in Vietnam we are offered two different perspectives on this matter. While Johnson provides reasoning on why we should fight the war, it is King s speech that shows a more compassionate side to Vietnam that I agree with. Kings speech offered many relevant points but the one that stood out and made me strongly support him was him pointing out the unfairness that affects American citizens. • 34. Political Participation Essay American political parties are unique, because the only qualification is self identification. Of course, several factors impact how an individual politically identifies themselves. These factors may include family life, childhood environment, etc. One major aspect is education level. How an individual s education level impacts their political self identification in the political spectrum is a well researched topic. Education influences the binary decision to participate in politics, whether it be through voting or some other form of political activism. Education level also shapes an individual s various policy positions. Most directly, education (specifically political literacy) affects how well they perceive the larger political landscape and where they fit into it. Education and Political Participation Adam Berzinsky and Gabriel Lenz tried to study education as a cause for political participation in their article Education and Political Participation: Exploring the Causal Link . • 36. The Compromise Of Food In Louisiana People in Houston were told to evacuate their homes and to leave everything behind, due to the hurricane, but they couldn t leave everything so they compromised and only brought with them the things that were an absolute necessity. Not a lot of people are able to compromise so easily. For some people this is a hard subject to grasp. Food is a major thing to in society today that not many people can agree on. Food is such a huge part of our everyday lives, but when two people are asked what they want to eat it seems that no one can come to an agreement. Food, however, is, something beautiful to be shared with people (M.F.K. Fisher), not something to cause problems and arguments when a decision about the food can t be made. More often than not it s really hard to compromise, but when it s for the greater good and taking in account people other than yourself, there s a certain satisfaction earned. In order to be considered a well rounded person in society, it is inevitable that one has the ability to compromise. I had to experience compromise first hand in the humid, swampy, hot, seafood loving, Louisiana. Four regions of south Louisiana were settled by the Cajuns. (Ducote). So it s probably pretty safe to say that Louisiana houses some pretty good, traditional Cajun food. This experience has helped me to realize my place in our culture when in comes to being a cordial, agreeable person.
