John Everett Millais Ophelia
During 1852, John Everett Millais created an astounding masterpiece, of oil on canvas, called
Ophelia. The primary focus is the character of Ophelia from Shakespeare s play Hamlet. The
painting is made to illustrate the tragic death of Ophelia in Shakespeare s play Hamlet, where she
fell in the stream and drowned. In the painting, Ophelia is observed lying down in the middle of a
running, narrow, river. She is painted with a long white dress layered with lace and beads
highlighting her importance in the painting. Ophelia s body is shown submerged with only her
face, neck, breasts, and hands floating at the surface, along with parts of her dress. Her hair is
shown drifting in the water around her head demonstrating her lost youth with her hands
submissively turned up. Her face is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He painted white flowers on both ends of her in a straight path bringing the viewers eyes to her,
the brownness of the tree on top of Ophelia s head attracts attention which also leads to Ophelia.
The painting was made in a way to make the viewer relate to the painting on a deeper level. Thus,
the flowers around her illustrate her delicacy. The flowers on the bushes and ground are white
signifying purity and peace ( Ophelia s Flowers ). While in accordance with the story, the roses
signify her brother s nickname for her rose of may . While the willows, nettles, and daisies
illustrate abandoned love, innocence and pain (Bill). As for the chain of violets around Ophelia s
neck, it demonstrates virginity and faithfulness (Bill). In conclusion, Millais might have chosen to
illustrate the illusion of space to represent a more realistic setting, however the artist still desired to
keep the attention directed towards

X-Ray Tube Essay
X ray tube is designed to lower the amount of heat produce, this can be accomplished by the
rotating of the anode which gives off heat. The X ray tube is designed with the anode attach to the
rotor and cathode on the other side of anode. This design determines the characteristics of X ray
beam.
The cathode is a normal cathode is made up of negatively charge small coil wire called filaments,
which is housed in focusing cup. The filament is negatively charged coil of wire which becomes
heated when the electrical current passes through and when that energy becomes enough to expel
the electrons from the filament its called Thermionic Emission. The function of cathode is to push
out electrons which are produced by electric circuit and to turn those electron into a beam. The
filament is contained in the cathode, usually design using a material known as Theorated tungsten.
This theorated tungsten allows for a high temperature without the filament melting and there are
different sizes of filament which can help to vary the spaceial resolution according to what is being
x ray.
The anode has two primary functions, one is to convert electronic energy into x radiation and the
second one is to dissipate the heat created in the process. The part of the x ray tube where x
radiation is produced is a large piece of metal that connects to positive side of electric current. The
anode provides a mechanical support for a target, the material of anode enhances the conversion of

Sophie Kinsella
Shopping beats therapy, any time. It costs the same and you get a dress out of it. Rebecca Brandon
(NГ©e Bloomwood). Does Kinsella s main character s thought portray a 21st century independent
woman? Does this thought describe women as materialistic shallows? Or is it the evidence of the
present day capitalist paradigm? There are clearly confronted positions in the chick lit ground,
divided between those who expect this genre to reflect the feminist concept of an independent
woman; and those who claim it to reveal the reality of women grappling with modern world. You

Foolish, yes. But you have always been tenacious. You have always refused to give in, whatever

law character, to Becky. In other words, Becky portrays an image of a sassy and klutzy, high
spirited and dramatic, independent and romantic family lover woman. On top of that, she
struggles to balance her fluctuating financial situation due to her addiction to shopping. Becky s
character differs from that of the fierce, unsentimental, practical, survivor like heroine Katniss
Everdeen, from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Katniss character reflects the image of
an efficient woman, while in Becky s character positive and negative features fuse together to
mirror the complete picture of a present day woman. Sophie Kinsella justifies her view of women

The World Needs a Little Courtesy Essay
The World Needs a Little Courtesy
Doesn t anyone show common courtesy anymore? When I was younger, I never knew what my
parents meant when I heard them ask that question. I thought people were polite. I never had any
problems with rude people. Now that I am older, and actually experience people outside of school, I
understand what my parents meant.
What happened to people saying Excuse me when they want to walk past you? Don t people know
what it means when someone says this to them? When I say Excuse me to someone the individual
stares at me as if I just spoke a foreign language or said something insulting. Then the individual
still doesn t move. I don t know how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do expect that when someone is walking through a door and he or she sees someone else
approaching the same door that he or she doesn t just let the door shut. Is the individual in that
much of a hurry that he or she can t wait two more seconds for the other person to get to the door?
Are the people who don t hold doors the same people who don t say Thank you ? It isn t difficult
to thank someone for doing something nice. A stranger took two seconds of his or her day to do
something for you. It only takes two seconds to thank him or her for it. Even a smile would be
enough, and that only takes one second.
What about the common courtesy of not interrupting a conversation? I was taught that it was rude
to interrupt someone else s conversation. There is a woman I work with who will interrupt every
conversation she happens upon. It doesn t matter who is talking, what they are talking about,
whom they are talking to, or whether or not she is involved. This woman will walk into the office
and start talking, as though no one else was speaking! It tends to make the speaker feel
unimportant. Maybe that is why she does it. She doesn t feel important unless she is talking. It is
possible she didn t realize anyone was talking, but for it to happen as often as it does seems a little
ridiculous. Interrupting phone conversations is

participants, the researchers further de identified interview texts for the study.
Limitations and External ValidityThe main limitation in this study is the small sampling of
Caucasian female study participants from one Midwest breast cancer center. More research in other
parts of the country needs to be completed for a more accurately portrayed study.
Findings, Conclusions, and Common ThemesConclusions: Suggestions for nurses working with
women in the immediate days following the initial diagnosis of breast cancer consist of assessing
women s descriptions and accessibility of support; regarding various needs for informational
support; providing a supportive clinical setting; instructing clinicians, family and friends about
unsupportive reactions within the cultural context and confirming women s control and balancing
of support needs.

Analyzing Ranc s Vertumnus
The painting by Jean Ranc titled Vertumnus and Pomona shows an encounter of Vertumnus and
Pomona, two characters of Roman mythology. Both Vertumnus and Pomona themselves are
references to antiquity. The basket of fruit that Pomona rests her arm on is a reference to herself as
the Roman goddess of fruit. Although this paintinghas a Roman mythology basis, it also has ties to
contemporary aspects that a viewer in the 18th century could relate to. Pomona and Vertumnus are
painted in a modern garden or outdoor setting. This painting taking place outdoors is similar to
other fГЄte galantes paintings that were popular during that time in the 18th century. For example,
numerous paintings by the artist Jean Antoine Watteau showed people enjoying themselves in an

These characters from Roman mythology are depicted in outfits that were common in the 18th
century. Pomona is holding a dainty sun umbrella and is wearing a fancy pink dress while
Vertumnus is draped in fabrics that you can presume would be worn by an elderly woman in the
18th century. In addition to that, these characters have modern hairstyles with hair accessories and
are painted with rosy cheeks to make it look like they are wearing makeup which is something that
would appeal to the 18th century viewer. Vertumnus and Pomona are painted to look like the
typical upper class person in the gardens living in the 18th century instead of ethereal gods and
goddesses. All of these elements come together to create this painting that is based upon Roman
mythology but also has modern

Scottish Independence
Should Scotland become Independent? Scotland is at a turning point. On 18th September 2014 a
referendum will be held asking voters a simple yes/no question: Should Scotland be an
independent country? It has become more apparent that Scotland does not benefit from being part
of the union with England, Wales and Northern Ireland and as a consequence of this many people
agree that Scotland would be better off as an independent country. Some say the union is no
longer fit for purpose and it is holding Scotland back. But many people oppose these views saying

Becoming independent would therefore arguably be a step for democracy and for the health
and recovery of its economy. The majority of laws which are put in place in Scotland are decided
and passed in Westminster by English politicians who will not be affected by these laws and are
intended primarily for England without much consideration for Scotland. At present Scotland has
a government that runs lots of Scottish affairs but has one hand tied behind its back with ones
not in their control such as taxation and fiscal policies. Although Scotland already has control
over its own parliament and legal system, it still has no control over its own defence and security.

Greed In The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant
Throughout the ages, literature has consistently reflected the interests and activities of a people.
Therefore, some themes have been dominant in World Literature from ancient times to the
present. One such theme greed and generosity, which is explored in the French short story The
Necklace by Guy de Maupassant. On August 5, 1850, Maupassant was born near Normandy,
France, where he lived for the majority of his childhood. He was the first son of Laure Le
Poittevin and Gustave de Maupassant, who were both from prestigious bourgeois families. When
Maupassant was eleven years old, his parents were legally divorced and both he and his brother
lived with their mother until the age of thirteen when he attended a Catholic seminary school. It...

Madame Loisel dreams of magnificent multi course meals, her husband is content with almost
any food that fills his stomach. Monsieur Loisel s complacency and contentment with his social
situation causes the contrasting desires of his wife to be further emphasized (Wilson 169).
Although Monsieur Loisel continuously tries to please his wife, she remains ungrateful and
restless she is never satisfied with the incredible effort he puts forth in order to make her happy.
Once again trying to please his wife, Monsieur Loisel manages to receive two invitations to a
formal ball held by the Ministry of Public Instruction. He has no desire to attend the ball himself,
but wishes to give his wife a chance to live the life she desires, be it only for one night. Initially,
Madame Loisel is unhappy with the invitation because, in her opinion, she does not possess an

Rhetorical Techniques In Fight Club
Lit Analysis Paper In Chuck Palahniuk s novel Fight Club the main character is in fact never
named throughout the book. He s never called by his name or even speaks of it. We re forced to
view in the 3rd person, the events and life of this character and the battle he endeavors with
insomnia and the suspicions friends that he meets. Tyler Durden comes along when the narrator is
in need of a friend and turns out being a terrible influence, but is his closest friend. It was his idea
to start the fight club to let out frustrations and anger of everyday guys that want to walk into their
boss s office and upper cut them. Palahniuk s usage of imagery, diction, and foreshadowing shows

Its the bridge that connects one idea to another. All night long I was dreaming I was humping
Marla Singer. (56). This is the first noticeable piece of foreshadowing in the novel when you re
left confused, why was it written in the first place. The narrator claims to have a strong dislike
for Marla, that is reaffirmed in later pages of the book. It was written to show the split of the
narrator s psyche. How the narrator is slowly deteriorating mentally from holding in two
personalities and the other one being strongly destructive. The erosion to his mental stability is
also evident with the little tangents that the narrator takes that often show how out of touch he is.
The imagery to foreshadowing connection is not uncommon in Fight Club, is a strategy that is
comfortable for Palahniuk to use to get his point across; only after you cross a very winding road
to eventually get to his point of intent. The intent is so noticeable when you realize it. You feel

Rock And Roll Music
Music makes the human body feel rewarded. When you start to hear a song or beat that is
catchy, you either sing along or move with it. Rock and roll evolved around the 1950 s and this
music made people want to sing along and move. But instead of the music, bands were more
worried about their makeup and their love lives, this is when GNR(Guns N Roses) came into play.
GNR joined together in the 80s, and they still play their musicat shows, concerts, and other big
events until this day. GNR wanted to make a move forward in rock and rolldue to the pitty music
that they have been listening to, and they succeeded. The band coined its name from Axl s old
band, Hollywood Rose, and Tracii s old band, L.A. Guns. Tracii had left GNR, due to an
argument with Axl. He was later replaced with one of Axl s old band mates, Slash. The band
worked together and released one of the best selling albums in the world, Appetite for
Destruction. The album has sold approximately 30 million copies worldwide, including 18
million units in the United States, making it the best selling debut album of all time in the US, as
well as the eleventh best selling album in the United States. GNR is the real definition of Rock
and Roll. Their music helps people learn that even though you came from nowhere, but you can
become a somebody. The songs in the album contain lyrics that discuss the troubles of being
popular and famous in the Hollywood world. Axl said, Sometimes I would want to... Show more

made them better. They continued what they loved to do and did not complain about it. GNR grew

The Pensieve And Harry Potter Comparison
The term Poetry is a word derived from the Greek meaning to make or create. Much like the word
sugguests, Poetry is the art of creating literature, which deals with human experiences. To
understand bette what Poetry is, one can use the Pensieve in Harry Potter.
The Pensieve has the appearance of a hollow stone, with runes and symbols carved around it s
opening. Inside the Pensieve is a silver cloud like liqiud/gas which is the physical appearance of
the memories owned by the person who owns the Pensieve. When touching the surface of the
silver memories, the person who touches it gets transported into the memory they touch, therefore
giving that person the ability to view it from a third person point of view. Although the person can
view the memory as if they are there, they can neither change the order of events, nor participate or
influence the memory they are viewing. However, the person is capable of feeling the emotions,
desires or views of the person who owns the memory.
In this analogy, the person supplying the memory would be the Poet, and the person viewing it
would be the reader. In Poems, the Poet uses the four senses to transport the reader into a picture
that he is painting. The reader can feel all the shared emotion that the Poet tries to convey, but not

Latent Defect Essay

CM 385: Section 1
Final Paper
How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how
one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown
and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of
faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does
nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he
simply cannot learn... and grow... and live. (Buscalglia, 2009) The contractorwho is bound to the

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace
apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The
parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence
in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v.
Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the
duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had
been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work
that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the
pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of
the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future
claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably
been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is
classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back
to the contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

Why Is Eugenics Be Allowed
Should Eugenics Be Allowed
The definition of the word Eugenics is to improve human raze by changing the DNA and breeding
of humans, some people think that allowing Eugenics may be positive and help find a cure and
even prevent for people with diseases or syndromes, but there are more the negative consequences
of allowing eugenics than the positive consequences.
One of the reasons why Eugenics should not be allowed is because of the immorality that
represents to change the DNA of a feto and change certain mental and physical characteristics
specially without the child making a decision in weather the baby would want to change their own
DNA, it will remove the choice of the people to make their own decisions, and even though

In most states that meant the mentally ill or mentally deficient . Even though the law specifies
mentally ill or mentally deficient, that means that the government now has the power by law to
change people s DNA and it will start as mentally ill or mentally deficient, but the law could
spread the group of people who could be sterilized like people with cancer or a certain illness or
born blinded people or even homosexuals in very close minded countries. According to Melissa
Nicholson in The Fascinating History of Eugenics, racists and xenophobes used eugenic principles
to further their agendas. With names like the Race Betterment Foundation, activists encouraged
Congress to pass the Immigration Act of 1924 that set limitations on the number of immigrants
from inferior stock such as Southern Europe and Asia. The president who signed the act into law,
Calvin Coolidge, had once said on the issue: America should be kept American . . . . Biological
laws show that Nordics deteriorate when mixed with other races. That means that by using eugenics
to create a perfect human raze (tall, white, blond, and blue eyed people, smart and superior
physically and morally), the world will be inducing that the ones that are not in that specific
group are less worth than the ones whose genes and DNA has been scientifically modified. Even
though some people in favor in Eugenics claim that by modifying the DNA, scientists and doctors
would be able to prevent all kinds of syndromes and illness in newborn babies which will mean that
there is going to be less people with mental health issues and illness, but according to Gregory W.

Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via...
Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene
Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin
remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with
inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition,
learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene
are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive
correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try
to develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF.
Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation
may be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and
H3 methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible
mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation
machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating
cycle that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might
have begun to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. I
hypothesize that it is possible to prevent hypermethylation and hyperacetylation

Herbert Hoover s Contributions
Herbert Hoover was orphaned at the tender age of nine after his father suffered a heart attack
while battling pneumonia shortly after his mother fell ill with a combination of pneumonia and
typhoid fever and passed away. The death of both parents left Herbert and his siblings to live the
rest of their childhoods with distant relatives. Hoover s tragic childhood did not in any shape or
form foreshadow his future.
For the majority of Hoover s life, he was tossed around from relative to relative for a few years
until he landed in the care of his Uncle Dr. John Minthorn, who was a resident of Oregon.
Hoover was able to get a high school education and major in geology at Stanford University in
California. While attending college at Stanford University, he met his wife; Lou Henry who
majored in geology as well. Herbert and Lou married in 1899. After graduating from college
Hoover worked in the gold mines of Nevada doing very labor intensive work. He pushed ore
carts in and out of mines. Later he climbed the ladder and was an engineer that inspected and
evaluated mines available for purchase for potential buyers. Hoover was able to catch a string of
job offers that lead him across the world and ultimately to start his own consulting business that
opened its doors in 1904.
Hoover raised as a Quaker applied many of his beliefs to his work as a mining engineer. Hoover
learned to value the importance of freedom, charity, the power of an individual, and the value of
diligent work. Hoover continued to work as a mining engineer, although he had a strong desire for
public service. Hoover identified himself as a Republican. World War 1 put Herbert Hooverin the
forefront of American politics. When the war broke out in London, the U.S consul contacted
Hoover and asked him to organize an evacuation of over 100,000 Americans trapped in Europe.
Hoover and many of his wealthy friends came together and created the Committee for the Relief of
Belgium, after Germany s brutal invasion of Belgium. Hoover successful pulled this off without
any government help; he was able to gain several millions of dollars to supply Belgians with much
needed medicine and food. Hoover ran the U.S. Food Administration at the request of President

Human Nutrition And Its Effects On The Health Of Obese People
Human nutrition is one of the vital topics discussed in the fields of health, largely because a diet
predicts the well being of the human species. Recently, Americans have been eating a
particularly hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state.
A steady increase of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to
present day, and the issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for
concern is due to the health of obese people. They have an increased risk for health
complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension,
coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial, kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2).
Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with more than normal body fat, which is
measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of Public Health). According to the
Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2 and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled
overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In children, overweight falls
between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the 95th percentile (CDC).
In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight, and the same
qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity). Despite the risks associated with an
excessive weight, obesity rates have yet to significantly decline for all age groups, and the

Describe The Four Types Of Weapons In Elizabethan
Elizabethan Era Weapons
,All of mankind s existence has been in thanks for weaponry. From the cavemen to the
Elizabethan Era, weapons have always been by man s side. Nobles, Archers, and Knights have all
used various types of weapons in the Elizabethan Era. From the billhook to the Poleaxe,
Elizabethan Era soldiers have used almost any weapon given to them, and they will fight for their
cause no matter the cost. Foot soldiers were the main men the Elizabethan used during war. Foot
soldiers were the most versatile out of the main four types of soldiers used by Elizabethan.
These soldiers either rode horseback or were on foot, giving them their name, Foot Soldiers .
Foot soldiers mainly used a mace. Foot soldiers used the mace because of it s mobility and also
by the amount of damage it could deal in a single blow. These soldiers were also the most
plentiful of any type of soldier that Elizabethan had at her disposal, but foot soldiers weren t the
only type of soldier Elizabethan had. Not only did Elizabethan, she also had knights. ... Show more

Using weapons on horseback made someone a harder target to hit and more deadly on the
battlefield. The most used weapons on horseback were the mace and the poleaxe. The mace was
a metal ball with spikes attached to a chain and rod. It could severely injure or kill anyone with
one hard blow. While the mace was very effective, it was also very cheap to manufacture. So if a
mace broke in combat, it wouldn t make a financial hole into the ruler s pocket. Poleaxes were
also a very effective weapon to use from horseback. It was a long sharpened rod with an axehead
on the top. The poleaxe was long so that a soldier could be up close, but also keep their distance
to protect themselves from the enemy. Poleaxes were primarily used while a knight was mounted
on horseback. Just like the mace, it could do significant damage with just one blow and defend a

To What Extent Was The Roman Republic Democratic
To what extent was the Roman Republic Democratic? In Roman society, the aristocrafts we know

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Refracting Telescope
Introduction: The refracting telescope or the refracting lense inside, is really useful at seeing
distant objects, making them appear larger and closer then it actually is, for e.g, it is mostly used
for astronomers to look around space, having an eye on most planets.
What happens when the light travels from one medium to the other: The light travels everywhere,
hitting everything and at the same time reflecting at a certain angle.. When speed of light is
normally being discussed, it is mostly being referred to its maximum speed that it can hit, and that
is the speed of light in a vacuum. Having no air or any other mediums, the light has no obstacles,
letting it free to go everywhere at its speed, which is 3.00 x 108 m/s. When an medium ... Show

Especially when wanted to be build in larger size and larger lense. The cost of the refracting
telescope runs to about $500 to $2000 per inch of the objective lense.
Another disadvantage is that the refracting telescope don t focus the colours very well because the
light just bounces of and creates different colours that are just bending and refracting
everywhere, focusing different colours at different points. Makes it really hard to make it to focus
and to bring them all together and see the proper colorful picture that is wanted. This is also known
as chromatic aberration. This could be solved by using the coated lenses to reduce this problem to
the minium.
If the lense is a bit more thicked, most light won t even be able to breach through, as well as not
giving in any colours to create the virtual or the real image.
Advantages:
The refracting telescope lense doesn t need much cleaning as they are very well sealed inside its
build.
After the first alignment, they are really needed to be re done since they are more resistant to the

William Shakespeare s Presentation of Domitius Enobarbus in Antony and Cleopatra
Traditionally Shakespeare s use of the role of a chorus is seen to have been used as an insight for
the audience into the prophesy of future events and what to expect throughout the play, usually by a
secondary character. In Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare expands the role of the chorus within
his presentation of Enobarbus. Enobarbus does not merely illustrate what consequences Antony s
and Cleopatra s actions will have but plays a significant and vital character whose actions earn the
admiration of the audience.

Modernism In Modern Architecture
breeding from the unruly mood at the beginning of the 20th century, modernism was a profound
approach that craved to stimulate and renovate the way modern civilization pictured life, art,
politics, literature and science. It is a classical trend of thoughts that ratifies the power of human
beings to create, improve and reshape their environment with the aid of scientific knowledge,
technological advancements and practical experimentation. As a trend, it is less lucid, its perimeter
looser, than, say, classicism. a number of analysts would contend that modernismisn t a single trend

modern architecture was simple and clear in forms. the natural appearance of a material should be

The Face In The Pool Analysis
G. R. Thompson s essay, The Face in the Pool: Reflections on the Doppelgänger Motif in The
Fall of the House of Usher , and Ki Yoon Jang s essay, Edgar Allan Poe and the Author Fiction:
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, both look at works of Poe in order to uncover
a deeper understanding of the text. Thompson uses formalist critical methods and Jang uses
structuralist critical methods in their essays, both of which are identified by examining each paper
for the elements that define their critical method. Thompson and Jang use Poe s works as the topic
of their paper, but address it in a different ways. Thompson uses a close reading to demonstrate the
inability of humans to know anything with certainty, exploring the layers of complexity within the
text that create the ambiguity found in Gothic and supernatural tales. He notes that Poe s images
are doubled throughout the text to give the eerie feeling of an internal spiraling into madness.
Thompson tracks the physical and mental state of the narrator in the house. The first half is
doubled through the second half, but with a quicker decline. In the end, Usher s face is
symbolically double with the fallen house to reemphasize the tale s madness. In contrast, Jang s
essay argues that Poe is using the relationship between author, narrator, and reader to show its place
in the American literary tradition of the sovereign author. Jang examines the Preface for Pym s
authorial disposition (Jang 359) as he

How Cultural Differences Impact On Advertising
How cultural differences impact on advertising in multi national companies?
(Case study of Coca Cola Company)
Introduction
A multinational company (MNC) can be defined as a company which operating in several countries
but managed by its home country. These companies play a major role in present globalized business
market. By moving forward beyond geographical barriers, helps multinational companies to expand
market share and maximize companies profit margins.
In comparison with its home country, operating in foreign country is not an easy task for any
company. Due to different factors such as currency different, legal barriers, government regulations
and cultural barriers multinational companies need to adjust their policies and marketing strategies
according to the country.
In order to survive in the competitive market, every company needs to adopt significant marketing
tools in order to sell their products and services. Advertising is among the top marketing tools which
used multinational companies in order to attract more customers towards their products.
But, can a multinational company use same advertising campaign in all around the world? The
simplest answer for that question is No . If so, what is the reason for that? The main reason for that
is due to cultural barriers and different any company cannot adopt same advertising tools or
methods among every country. Therefore, multinational companies advertise different in according
to the cultural norms of the country

Detection Capabilities Of Endpoint Antivirus Solutions
Many enterprises have trouble discovering advanced threats because they exclusively rely on the
limited detection capabilities of endpoint antivirus solutions. The figure below demonstrates how
signatures are significantly better at discovering opportunistic attackers. This is because
opportunistic attackers find value in scale. Their objective is to compromise as many endpoints as
possible and as a result are likely to have a signature developed shortly thereafter. The advanced
attacker who only targets a finite number of assets needed to accomplish a specific mission can
remain below the detection threshold and go significant amounts of time without registering a
signature, if they register one at all. Additionally, an advanced attacker can move laterally to more
critical systems in an attempt to escalate their privileges within an environment. If the attacker
succeeds, they can come and go as they please within a given enterprise living off the land by
leveraging built in tools to reduce the number of new executables reducing the amount of change
they introduce into the environment. As a result, the attacker can persist for long periods of time
by adding more user and system accounts. By proactively deploying continuous data collection to
track an attacker s every move, and classifying threats by leveraging robust threat intelligence,
enterprises can hunt across the attacker s entire kill chain. The example below also illustrates the
shortcomings of endpoint

STEM Education in the United States Essay
Science education has been a controversial topic among employers and schools for years.
Employers are requesting more STEM graduates yet the schools are unable to keep up with the
rising demand. Unemployment rates continue to go up while positions in the science, technology,
and engineering fields have remained open and unfulfilled. STEM (science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics) educationis vital to the position of the United Statesin the world
standings in STEM research and design. Currently 3 of the 5 top positions in STEM research are
held by Asian countries and sadly the United States doesn t even fall in the top 10 for the list.
There was once a time when the United States led the world in STEM research, but times have...

If we hope to continue in the direction that we are going, it is imperative that we increase interest
in STEM fields. The best way to increase the amount of STEM graduates is to increase STEM
interest in school aged children. Some states have more successfully integrated STEM into their
education system through the introduction of magnet schools and other specialized programs.
These schools have helped increase interest in STEM education by exposing students very specific
components of the fields. Some ways that they achieve this is by introducing specialized courses
like aquatic science and robotics. Robotics is one of the most commonly introduced classes in the
6th 12th grades and is responsible for a large increase in STEM interest. (Waters) Students report
that their favorite part of robotics is the hands on nature of the class. This teaching method has since
been applied to other non robotics classes resulting in higher class participation and attentiveness.
AUVIS foundation helps schools start up robotics programs and reports that schools with robotics
programs that expand on the AUVIS teaching method have also increased their performance on
standardized tests. Robotics has further helped foster STEM education through the introduction of
national robotics competitions. These competitions are beneficial to the children because it

The Theory Of Sexuality By Sigmund Freud
Few topics evoke so much intrigue and bewilderment, discussion and silence as the concept of
sexuality. It has simultaneously been the focus of scientific experimentation and theoretical debate
since the emergence of the modern world. Traditional views designate sexuality as purposeful,
which is to say that our sexual instinct compels us toward reproduction and the preservation of life.
This parallels human sexualityto that of animals, an instinct that is genetically programmed into us
for the purpose of copulation. This is made to seem analogous to the instinct of hunger or thirst and
taking nourishment (15). In his book, Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality, Sigmund Freud
challenges these conventional views of the subject. While there are translational inconsistencies
with his use of the word instinct, the term drive actually substantiates his theory. He argues that
sexuality begins in childhood and can develop into a continuum of expressions that are shaped by
experiences at the level of the body, and to a lesser extent, experiences in society. These impulses
of the libidodrive all psychological activity. In this paper I will show that, according to Freud,
sexuality is embedded in our bodily being without being instinctual because it can take many
forms, it can be controlled or repressed and contains mental dispositions. Much of who we are is
shaped from experiences that begin soon after birth and Freud argues that sexuality is no exception.

The Gempei War Analysis
Liam Brownlie Egan F Block 3/29/2018 The Gempei War; a battle of military might, or a
political feud? Word Count: 1544 Part I: Introduction The 1180 through 1185 Gempei War
between the Japanese Taira and Minamoto clans is often pointed to as an example of the Japanese
warrior ethic. The Heike Monogatari traditionally would argue that this is true, however, the reality
of the 12th century conflict paints a much different story. Analysis of the war shows that the
deciding factors of the war were not necessarily the military strength of the Minamoto, but instead
it was a brilliant and lucky political chess game played by Minamoto Yoritomo. Yoritomo was able
to develop strategic alliances with local lords across eastern Japan and benefited from... Show more

The Imperial Court neglected the many communities and prefectures that make up Japan. This led
to many local lords taking matters into their own hands, and establishing virtually autonomous
kingdoms each fighting each other for power. When the Gempei War broke out in 1180 Yoritomo
pounced on the opportunity to gain overwhelming support. With the establishment of the Kamakura
Shogunate, Yoritomo designed a system that would allocate authority to local military leaders that
would, in turn, remain loyal to the Shogun. During the Gempei War, Yoritomo offered these
positions to military lords across eastern Japan. With this strategy, Yoritomo was able to amass a
force that outnumbered that of the Taira. This quote addresses the importance of this fact, the war
s larger significance lay in Yoritomo s rechanneling of hostility among provincial warriors. By
promising them land and jobs when he won, Yoritomo assured the loyalty of warriors who wanted
to topple their regional rivals, (Selinger,4). Had Yoritomo not appealed to these lords, the Taira
would have been able to crush his

Cultural Analysis of Spain
**this was written as the first stage of analyizing Spain for the introduction of a franchise**
In the beginning, Spain endured a diversified number of cultures. Around 1600 B.C., the Iberians
arrived in Spain. Migration into Spain continued from Europe beyond the Pyrenees, the
Mediterranean, and North Africa. Following the Iberians, came the Celts. The two cultures merged
and established a distinctive Celt Iberian culture. In 1492, the Moors, a nomadic, Muslim tribe of
North African origin, were driven off of the Iberian Peninsula. Shortly after, several kingdoms on
the Iberian Peninsula merged to form what is modern day Spain.
Spain is located in southwestern Europe and occupies approximately 80% of the Iberian Peninsula.

Traditional Spanish food consists of fresh ingredients. Seafood, which is consumed within hours
of being caught, as well as meat, are combined with herbs, spices, and lots of olive oil in
traditional Spanish cuisine. Because of the increase in the number of fast food restaurants in Spain
as well as restaurants from other countries with their own flavors, the traditional food of Spain is
starting to decrease but will never be forgotten.
Today s democratic Spain is the product of a long and often troubled history. For much of the
twentieth century, Spain was governed by dictatorships, most recently during the years of 1939
through 1975 under General Francisco Franco.
The government of Spain is one of constitutional monarchy. The nation is led by the Spanish head
of state, King Juan Carlos I, who began his reign in 1975. Subordinate to the monarchy, there are 3
branches of government, an Executive Branch, a Legislative Branch, and a Judicial Branch.
Although Spain is a kingdom, the King is not the leader of the Spanish government. The Executive
Branch is led by the Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar. Also included in this branch are
various governmental positions including the First Deputy Prime Minister, Second Deputy Prime
Minister, and the Council of Ministers. Additionally, the Executive Branch is responsible for
enforcing or carrying out the laws that are made through the Legislative Branch.
The Legislative Branch of the Spanish government is comprised of

William Shakespeare s Henry V Essay
William Shakespeare s Henry V
Shakespeare s, Henry V, was written in the late sixteenth century, this composition will focus upon
how Shakespeare portrayed Henry V, using factual knowledge and Shakespeare s own
interpretation. I will look at the character, language, structure and history of the play.
Most Shakespearian, historical, plays were based upon Holinshead s Chronicles, these were
mostly true but often Shakespeare adjusted the figures and facts to emphasise parts of his play s,
and create tension and drama, such as when he is attempting to woo Katherine, to make a more
interesting play. Many of Shakespeare s plays were historical, based upon actual happenings. Henry
V was one of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the play the Bishop reminds Ely that Henry was once wild and offensive, The
breath no sooner left his fathers body but that his wildness, mortified in him seemed to die too: yea,
at that very moment consideration, like an angel came and whipped the offending Adam out of him.
However Ely refers to the good in Henry, The strawberry groweth underneath the nettle Ely is
saying that Henry was still growing, surrounded by people who are bad, but is still a good
person underneath that eventually blossomed and became a good person. This is a good
example of Shakespeare s imagery. He needed lots of imagery as the stage and scenery were
very sparse and the actors were nothing more than peasants. Prologues in a number of Elizabethan
plays were used to set the scene, give important information and ask the audience for applause.
Acting during these times was also incredibly poor, so prologues helped compensate for this.
Shakespeare s interpretation of Henry V makes him a very controversial character. On one side he
makes Henry look like a heroic figure, on the other, a ruthless, uncaring king. This shows that
Shakespeare tried to make the play more realistic, by showing the Henry was not just good or bad,
but changed his attitudes to accommodate different situations. Examples of this can be found when
before the great battles in which he manipulates

Finally, we can see where overconfidence, risky decision making, failure to develop successors
created an eventual leadership crisis and led the company to ultimately file for bankruptcy

My read of question one, part one is that Burton s leadership behavior was most certainly that of a
charismatic leader. He was a visionary, could effectively articulate his visions and exuded a
confidence and optimism that inspired and motivated his followers. He was willing to take
personal risks and make self sacrifices to attain the vision, at least initially. He used strong
expressive forms of communication when articulating the vision. With respect to his followers, he
communicated high expectations, expressed optimism and confidence in them and empowered
them. Evidence of charismatic leadership is provided by the leader follower relationship, and a
charismatic leader has profound and unusual effects on followers. This was certainly the case
initially where the organization provided, a better way for people to work together, thereby
unleashing their creativity and improving productivity.
Question two of part one asks, Was Burton a charismatic leader in the company at this time?
Explain your answer. The short answer is yes. However, in order to answer this question more

Cultural Diversity In Rocky Mountains

Essay On Cognition Enhancers
A common trend on college campuses is the use of performance enhancing drugs for both
academic and athletic motives. Most college students know of someone who abuses one of these
drugs with the most common being cognition enhancers like Adderall and Ritalin. (Greely 2008)
These medications are only available legally by prescription, therefore students are illegally
dealing to each other for the buying and selling of these drugs. Their purpose for using is to have
an advantage over their peers, despite these dealings being crimes in the United States.

(Ragan 2013) With Adderall being the most common drug misused, its purpose is not only too get
high or lose weight, but to gain academic advantages with help in concentrating and studying. As
the demands in schooling increase, there is a prevalent increase in the need for cognition enhancers
to gain an advantage in the academic setting. Cognition enhancers used by healthy students is
mainly focused in the academic side of college campuses. However, they are also abused in other
competitive settings such as athletics. Athletes use drugs like Adderall to battle their fatigue when
playing in games and during practices. This illegal act can lead to athletes being suspended, losing
scholarships, and being fined. Many times, in masculine sports, the use of performance enhancing
drugs can be more expected in male athletes. These athletes rely on their athletic performance as a
sense of identity and feel more pressured to accomplish their athletic goals. Nonmedical use of
Adderall was seen highest in wrestling and lacrosse which are masculine sports that have high
expectations. Females had no particular sport associated with the use of Adderall. This shows a link
between higher contact sports and the nonmedical use of Adderall. (Veliz 2015) Athletes don t just
use cognition enhancers on the field, but many student athletes take the medications after games or

sometimes I think that certain categories such as content, can be subjective and ambiguos.
Having said that, I read several of the peer rubrics provided and found wonderful examples for
ways to make that grading more specific, and less open to argument from the student. For

Tyler typically arrives on campus between 8 9 a.m., but does not have classes until 10 11 a.m, he

Joey Matthews, a senior biology major, only arrives 15 minutes before his classes begin, and as a
result, finds himself late to some of his classes.
I can always get a spot, [it just] sometimes takes forever or it is in a remote corner of the lot and I

20 minutes, but when I am getting there 15 minutes before, I kind of put that on myself, but if I
miss that first bus [and have to wait for a second one to come] chances are I am late.
Many students that park in the northeast commuter lot rely on the buses to transport them to and
from their classes simply because the lots are so far away from the rest of the campus. Students
that find themselves relying on the bus systems sometimes face overcrowded buses.

  • 2. John Everett Millais Ophelia During 1852, John Everett Millais created an astounding masterpiece, of oil on canvas, called Ophelia. The primary focus is the character of Ophelia from Shakespeare s play Hamlet. The painting is made to illustrate the tragic death of Ophelia in Shakespeare s play Hamlet, where she fell in the stream and drowned. In the painting, Ophelia is observed lying down in the middle of a running, narrow, river. She is painted with a long white dress layered with lace and beads highlighting her importance in the painting. Ophelia s body is shown submerged with only her face, neck, breasts, and hands floating at the surface, along with parts of her dress. Her hair is shown drifting in the water around her head demonstrating her lost youth with her hands submissively turned up. Her face is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He painted white flowers on both ends of her in a straight path bringing the viewers eyes to her, the brownness of the tree on top of Ophelia s head attracts attention which also leads to Ophelia. The painting was made in a way to make the viewer relate to the painting on a deeper level. Thus, the flowers around her illustrate her delicacy. The flowers on the bushes and ground are white signifying purity and peace ( Ophelia s Flowers ). While in accordance with the story, the roses signify her brother s nickname for her rose of may . While the willows, nettles, and daisies illustrate abandoned love, innocence and pain (Bill). As for the chain of violets around Ophelia s neck, it demonstrates virginity and faithfulness (Bill). In conclusion, Millais might have chosen to illustrate the illusion of space to represent a more realistic setting, however the artist still desired to keep the attention directed towards ... • 4. X-Ray Tube Essay X ray tube is designed to lower the amount of heat produce, this can be accomplished by the rotating of the anode which gives off heat. The X ray tube is designed with the anode attach to the rotor and cathode on the other side of anode. This design determines the characteristics of X ray beam. The cathode is a normal cathode is made up of negatively charge small coil wire called filaments, which is housed in focusing cup. The filament is negatively charged coil of wire which becomes heated when the electrical current passes through and when that energy becomes enough to expel the electrons from the filament its called Thermionic Emission. The function of cathode is to push out electrons which are produced by electric circuit and to turn those electron into a beam. The filament is contained in the cathode, usually design using a material known as Theorated tungsten. This theorated tungsten allows for a high temperature without the filament melting and there are different sizes of filament which can help to vary the spaceial resolution according to what is being x ray. The anode has two primary functions, one is to convert electronic energy into x radiation and the second one is to dissipate the heat created in the process. The part of the x ray tube where x radiation is produced is a large piece of metal that connects to positive side of electric current. The anode provides a mechanical support for a target, the material of anode enhances the conversion of energy and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sophie Kinsella Shopping beats therapy, any time. It costs the same and you get a dress out of it. Rebecca Brandon (NГ©e Bloomwood). Does Kinsella s main character s thought portray a 21st century independent woman? Does this thought describe women as materialistic shallows? Or is it the evidence of the present day capitalist paradigm? There are clearly confronted positions in the chick lit ground, divided between those who expect this genre to reflect the feminist concept of an independent woman; and those who claim it to reveal the reality of women grappling with modern world. You can be highly intelligent, and also ditzy and klutzy. (...) What I m writing is real , expresses best seller writer Sophie Kinsella. With a witty sense and a humorous style,... In other words, Becky portrays an image of a sassy and klutzy, high spirited and dramatic, independent and romantic family lover woman. On top of that, she struggles to balance her fluctuating financial situation due to her addiction to shopping. Becky s character differs from that of the fierce, unsentimental, practical, survivor like heroine Katniss Everdeen, from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Katniss character reflects the image of an efficient woman, while in Becky s character positive and negative features fuse together to mirror the complete picture of a present day woman. Sophie Kinsella justifies her view of women when she says: I think it s more realistic to represent a woman having all these facets, than say, OK, you re intelligent, so I ve got to write you as all competent, which I think is an unfair ideal . When I was younger, I never knew what my parents meant when I heard them ask that question. I thought people were polite. I never had any problems with rude people. Now that I am older, and actually experience people outside of school, I understand what my parents meant. What happened to people saying Excuse me when they want to walk past you? Is the individual in that much of a hurry that he or she can t wait two more seconds for the other person to get to the door? Are the people who don t hold doors the same people who don t say Thank you ? It isn t difficult to thank someone for doing something nice. A stranger took two seconds of his or her day to do something for you. It only takes two seconds to thank him or her for it. Even a smile would be enough, and that only takes one second. What about the common courtesy of not interrupting a conversation? I was taught that it was rude to interrupt someone else s conversation. There is a woman I work with who will interrupt every conversation she happens upon. It doesn t matter who is talking, what they are talking about, whom they are talking to, or whether or not she is involved. This woman will walk into the office and start talking, as though no one else was speaking! It tends to make the speaker feel unimportant. Maybe that is why she does it. She doesn t feel important unless she is talking. It is possible she didn t realize anyone was talking, but for it to happen as often as it does seems a little ridiculous. • 8. Analyzing Ranc s Vertumnus The painting by Jean Ranc titled Vertumnus and Pomona shows an encounter of Vertumnus and Pomona, two characters of Roman mythology. Both Vertumnus and Pomona themselves are references to antiquity. The basket of fruit that Pomona rests her arm on is a reference to herself as the Roman goddess of fruit. Although this paintinghas a Roman mythology basis, it also has ties to contemporary aspects that a viewer in the 18th century could relate to. Pomona and Vertumnus are painted in a modern garden or outdoor setting. This painting taking place outdoors is similar to other fГЄte galantes paintings that were popular during that time in the 18th century. In addition to that, these characters have modern hairstyles with hair accessories and are painted with rosy cheeks to make it look like they are wearing makeup which is something that would appeal to the 18th century viewer. On 18th September 2014 a referendum will be held asking voters a simple yes/no question: Should Scotland be an independent country? It has become more apparent that Scotland does not benefit from being part of the union with England, Wales and Northern Ireland and as a consequence of this many people agree that Scotland would be better off as an independent country. Some say the union is no longer fit for purpose and it is holding Scotland back. Becoming independent would therefore arguably be a step for democracy and for the health and recovery of its economy. The majority of laws which are put in place in Scotland are decided and passed in Westminster by English politicians who will not be affected by these laws and are intended primarily for England without much consideration for Scotland. At present Scotland has a government that runs lots of Scottish affairs but has one hand tied behind its back with ones not in their control such as taxation and fiscal policies. Although Scotland already has control over its own parliament and legal system, it still has no control over its own defence and security. My favourite news recently is that nuclear warheads were transported through Glasgow even though MSPs condemned strongly against this and without informing the local authorities. Therefore, some themes have been dominant in World Literature from ancient times to the present. One such theme greed and generosity, which is explored in the French short story The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant. On August 5, 1850, Maupassant was born near Normandy, France, where he lived for the majority of his childhood. He was the first son of Laure Le Poittevin and Gustave de Maupassant, who were both from prestigious bourgeois families. Monsieur Loisel s complacency and contentment with his social situation causes the contrasting desires of his wife to be further emphasized (Wilson 169). Although Monsieur Loisel continuously tries to please his wife, she remains ungrateful and restless she is never satisfied with the incredible effort he puts forth in order to make her happy. Once again trying to please his wife, Monsieur Loisel manages to receive two invitations to a formal ball held by the Ministry of Public Instruction. He has no desire to attend the ball himself, but wishes to give his wife a chance to live the life she desires, be it only for one night. Initially, Madame Loisel is unhappy with the invitation because, in her opinion, she does not possess an adequate dress for the ball. He s never called by his name or even speaks of it. We re forced to view in the 3rd person, the events and life of this character and the battle he endeavors with insomnia and the suspicions friends that he meets. Tyler Durden comes along when the narrator is in need of a friend and turns out being a terrible influence, but is his closest friend. It was his idea to start the fight club to let out frustrations and anger of everyday guys that want to walk into their boss s office and upper cut them. The narrator claims to have a strong dislike for Marla, that is reaffirmed in later pages of the book. It was written to show the split of the narrator s psyche. How the narrator is slowly deteriorating mentally from holding in two personalities and the other one being strongly destructive. The erosion to his mental stability is also evident with the little tangents that the narrator takes that often show how out of touch he is. The imagery to foreshadowing connection is not uncommon in Fight Club, is a strategy that is comfortable for Palahniuk to use to get his point across; only after you cross a very winding road to eventually get to his point of intent. • 14. Rock And Roll Music Music makes the human body feel rewarded. When you start to hear a song or beat that is catchy, you either sing along or move with it. Rock and roll evolved around the 1950 s and this music made people want to sing along and move. But instead of the music, bands were more worried about their makeup and their love lives, this is when GNR(Guns N Roses) came into play. GNR joined together in the 80s, and they still play their musicat shows, concerts, and other big events until this day. • 15. The Pensieve And Harry Potter Comparison The term Poetry is a word derived from the Greek meaning to make or create. Much like the word sugguests, Poetry is the art of creating literature, which deals with human experiences. To understand bette what Poetry is, one can use the Pensieve in Harry Potter. The Pensieve has the appearance of a hollow stone, with runes and symbols carved around it s opening. Inside the Pensieve is a silver cloud like liqiud/gas which is the physical appearance of the memories owned by the person who owns the Pensieve. When touching the surface of the silver memories, the person who touches it gets transported into the memory they touch, therefore giving that person the ability to view it from a third person point of view. Although the person can view the memory as if they are there, they can neither change the order of events, nor participate or influence the memory they are viewing. However, the person is capable of feeling the emotions, desires or views of the person who owns the memory. In this analogy, the person supplying the memory would be the Poet, and the person viewing it would be the reader. In Poems, the Poet uses the four senses to transport the reader into a picture that he is painting. The reader can feel all the shared emotion that the Poet tries to convey, but not unlike in the ... Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn... and grow... and live. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child. Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor. Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the reasons why Eugenics should not be allowed is because of the immorality that represents to change the DNA of a feto and change certain mental and physical characteristics specially without the child making a decision in weather the baby would want to change their own DNA, it will remove the choice of the people to make their own decisions, and even though eugenics ... According to Melissa Nicholson in The Fascinating History of Eugenics, racists and xenophobes used eugenic principles to further their agendas. With names like the Race Betterment Foundation, activists encouraged Congress to pass the Immigration Act of 1924 that set limitations on the number of immigrants from inferior stock such as Southern Europe and Asia. The president who signed the act into law, Calvin Coolidge, had once said on the issue: America should be kept American . . . . Biological laws show that Nordics deteriorate when mixed with other races. That means that by using eugenics to create a perfect human raze (tall, white, blond, and blue eyed people, smart and superior physically and morally), the world will be inducing that the ones that are not in that specific group are less worth than the ones whose genes and DNA has been scientifically modified. Even though some people in favor in Eugenics claim that by modifying the DNA, scientists and doctors would be able to prevent all kinds of syndromes and illness in newborn babies which will mean that there is going to be less people with mental health issues and illness, but according to Gregory W. • 18. Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via... Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition, learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try to develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF. Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation may be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and H3 methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating cycle that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might have begun to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. I hypothesize that it is possible to prevent hypermethylation and hyperacetylation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The death of both parents left Herbert and his siblings to live the rest of their childhoods with distant relatives. Hoover s tragic childhood did not in any shape or form foreshadow his future. For the majority of Hoover s life, he was tossed around from relative to relative for a few years until he landed in the care of his Uncle Dr. John Minthorn, who was a resident of Oregon. Hoover was able to get a high school education and major in geology at Stanford University in California. While attending college at Stanford University, he met his wife; Lou Henry who majored in geology as well. Herbert and Lou married in 1899. After graduating from college Hoover worked in the gold mines of Nevada doing very labor intensive work. He pushed ore carts in and out of mines. Later he climbed the ladder and was an engineer that inspected and evaluated mines available for purchase for potential buyers. Hoover was able to catch a string of job offers that lead him across the world and ultimately to start his own consulting business that opened its doors in 1904. Hoover raised as a Quaker applied many of his beliefs to his work as a mining engineer. Hoover learned to value the importance of freedom, charity, the power of an individual, and the value of diligent work. Hoover continued to work as a mining engineer, although he had a strong desire for public service. Hoover identified himself as a Republican. World War 1 put Herbert Hooverin the forefront of American politics. When the war broke out in London, the U.S consul contacted Hoover and asked him to organize an evacuation of over 100,000 Americans trapped in Europe. Hoover and many of his wealthy friends came together and created the Committee for the Relief of Belgium, after Germany s brutal invasion of Belgium. Recently, Americans have been eating a particularly hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state. A steady increase of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to present day, and the issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for concern is due to the health of obese people. They have an increased risk for health complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial, kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2). Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with more than normal body fat, which is measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of Public Health). According to the Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2 and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In children, overweight falls between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the 95th percentile (CDC). In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight, and the same qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity). What happens when the light travels from one medium to the other: The light travels everywhere, hitting everything and at the same time reflecting at a certain angle.. When speed of light is normally being discussed, it is mostly being referred to its maximum speed that it can hit, and that is the speed of light in a vacuum. Thompson s essay, The Face in the Pool: Reflections on the DoppelgГ¤nger Motif in The Fall of the House of Usher , and Ki Yoon Jang s essay, Edgar Allan Poe and the Author Fiction: The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, both look at works of Poe in order to uncover a deeper understanding of the text. Thompson uses formalist critical methods and Jang uses structuralist critical methods in their essays, both of which are identified by examining each paper for the elements that define their critical method. Thompson and Jang use Poe s works as the topic of their paper, but address it in a different ways. Thompson uses a close reading to demonstrate the inability of humans to know anything with certainty, exploring the layers of complexity within the text that create the ambiguity found in Gothic and supernatural tales. He notes that Poe s images are doubled throughout the text to give the eerie feeling of an internal spiraling into madness. Thompson tracks the physical and mental state of the narrator in the house. The first half is doubled through the second half, but with a quicker decline. In the end, Usher s face is symbolically double with the fallen house to reemphasize the tale s madness. • 43. Detection Capabilities Of Endpoint Antivirus Solutions Many enterprises have trouble discovering advanced threats because they exclusively rely on the limited detection capabilities of endpoint antivirus solutions. The figure below demonstrates how signatures are significantly better at discovering opportunistic attackers. This is because opportunistic attackers find value in scale. Their objective is to compromise as many endpoints as possible and as a result are likely to have a signature developed shortly thereafter. The advanced attacker who only targets a finite number of assets needed to accomplish a specific mission can remain below the detection threshold and go significant amounts of time without registering a signature, if they register one at all. Additionally, an advanced attacker can move laterally to more critical systems in an attempt to escalate their privileges within an environment. If the attacker succeeds, they can come and go as they please within a given enterprise living off the land by leveraging built in tools to reduce the number of new executables reducing the amount of change they introduce into the environment. As a result, the attacker can persist for long periods of time by adding more user and system accounts. By proactively deploying continuous data collection to track an attacker s every move, and classifying threats by leveraging robust threat intelligence, enterprises can hunt across the attacker s entire kill chain. • 45. The Theory Of Sexuality By Sigmund Freud Few topics evoke so much intrigue and bewilderment, discussion and silence as the concept of sexuality. It has simultaneously been the focus of scientific experimentation and theoretical debate since the emergence of the modern world. Traditional views designate sexuality as purposeful, which is to say that our sexual instinct compels us toward reproduction and the preservation of life. This parallels human sexualityto that of animals, an instinct that is genetically programmed into us for the purpose of copulation. This is made to seem analogous to the instinct of hunger or thirst and taking nourishment (15). In his book, Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality, Sigmund Freud challenges these conventional views of the subject. While there are translational inconsistencies with his use of the word instinct, the term drive actually substantiates his theory. He argues that sexuality begins in childhood and can develop into a continuum of expressions that are shaped by experiences at the level of the body, and to a lesser extent, experiences in society. These impulses of the libidodrive all psychological activity. In this paper I will show that, according to Freud, sexuality is embedded in our bodily being without being instinctual because it can take many forms, it can be controlled or repressed and contains mental dispositions. Much of who we are is shaped from experiences that begin soon after birth and Freud argues that sexuality is no exception. The exploration of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Heike Monogatari traditionally would argue that this is true, however, the reality of the 12th century conflict paints a much different story. When the Gempei War broke out in 1180 Yoritomo pounced on the opportunity to gain overwhelming support. With the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, Yoritomo designed a system that would allocate authority to local military leaders that would, in turn, remain loyal to the Shogun. During the Gempei War, Yoritomo offered these positions to military lords across eastern Japan. With this strategy, Yoritomo was able to amass a force that outnumbered that of the Taira. This quote addresses the importance of this fact, the war s larger significance lay in Yoritomo s rechanneling of hostility among provincial warriors. However Ely refers to the good in Henry, The strawberry groweth underneath the nettle Ely is saying that Henry was still growing, surrounded by people who are bad, but is still a good person underneath that eventually blossomed and became a good person. This is a good example of Shakespeare s imagery. He needed lots of imagery as the stage and scenery were very sparse and the actors were nothing more than peasants. Prologues in a number of Elizabethan plays were used to set the scene, give important information and ask the audience for applause. Acting during these times was also incredibly poor, so prologues helped compensate for this. Shakespeare s interpretation of Henry V makes him a very controversial character. On one side he makes Henry look like a heroic figure, on the other, a ruthless, uncaring king.
