Presidential Election Vs. Election
Fifteen years ago, President George Bush won the presidential election beating Al Gore, who had won
the popular vote. This election is one of the most contested in this century. The same election is also
an example of the United States Electoral College voting system in action. The Electoral College
permits a candidate to win a presidential election without winning the popular vote. The American
campaign and election system can be broken down into three significant parts, the nomination, the
campaign, and the election. Each portion of the campaign and election system is distinct from the
other, but have some similarities. Prior to running in the national presidential election, the candidate
must win the party nomination. The nomination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to nomination issues, there are campaign fund issues. As described by Paul Steinhauser
and Robert Yoon s article, Cost to Win Congressional Election Skyrockets, for CNN, the cost to win
congressional elections is rising steeply. Steinhauser and Yoon explain that on average it costs $1.6
million to win a House seat, which, after accounting for inflation, is 344% more than in 1986.
Steinhauser and Yoon also emphasize that in the House of Representatives, incumbents outspend their
challengers by an average ratio of $3 for every $1 the challenger spends. Senate incumbents on
average outspend their challengers by $3.5 million. The authors also explain that in 2012 outside
groups spent $457 million on congressional elections. An outside group could be a group or
individual, for example a PAC (Political Action Committee) or a wealthy individual. Ashley Parker
relates her article, Outside Money Drives a Deluge of Political Ads, in The New York Times to the
influx in spending by outside groups. She explains that political spending for advertising is increasing
rapidly compared to past elections. Parker also emphasizes that outside groups buy more
advertisement time than the candidates themselves. She concludes her article by emphasizing that
soon enough political advertisements are going to start airing on TV right after November elections,
this is some two years before the next vote. Equally important

RBA Monetary Policy
The government may also use monetary policy in order to contain economic growth. Monetary policy
refers to changes in interest rates in order to influence aggregate demand and economic activity.
Monetary policy is conducted by the Reserve Bank of Australia, who use domestic market operations
in order to change interest rates. If the RBA takes a loose monetary policy stance the RBA will
purchase Commonwealth Government Securities in secondary bond markets. This increases the cash
in the markets, and therefore pushes the overnight cash rate down. Interest rates will be lowered,
which will result in higher consumer demand as the cost of interest on mortgages and credit card
repayments will decrease. On the other hand a tight monetary stance results ... Show more content on

Microeconomic policies promote the efficient operation of markets as the most effective mechanism
for achieving efficient allocation and use of resources, raise productivity and increase aggregate
supply. Increased aggregate supply will result in decreased inflationary pressures and increased
international competitiveness as Australian producers are able to supply international markets with a
greater volume of goods at lower prices. Greater export earnings will consequently improve Australia
s terms of trade, and will decrease the current account deficit. Microeconomic reforms that promote
increased competition in both domestic and international markets will also encourage greater
innovation and cheaper product, which will benefit consumers. Increases in productivity and
aggregate supply will also result in improvements in labour productivity. Higher productivity and
greater export earnings will result in wage increases for Australian labour, and subsequently living
standards will improve. As a result of higher wages, aggregate demand will increase thus creating
further opportunities for increases in

Pivotal Events Determining the Outcome of the American...
People of the 21st century might question what the most pivotal events were during the American
Revolution. The Declaration of Independence, which was one of these events was mainly written by
Thomas Jefferson but edited by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. The Declaration of Independence
was a celebration of the patriot s breakaway from the British. Another event happened on Christmas
day 1776, when George Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River with the hopes of
capturing the Hessians who were a group that King George III paid to fight or them. With luck on the
troop s side, they captured between 900 and 1,000 prisoners and took over Trenton, New Jersey. And
finally, in Valley Forge, PA Washington s troops went through harsh weather and long hours of
training. By June 19th, 1778 the day they left, Washington s troops were stronger than they were
before with the help of General Baron Von Steuben. The most pivotal events in determining the
outcome of the American Revolution were Declaration of Independence (June 1776), Washington s
Crossing (December1776), and Valley Forge (1777 1778). The Declaration of Independence was
mainly written by Thomas Jefferson with the help of the Continental Congress. Writing the declaration
was one of Jefferson s most enduring moments in his life. There were about 56 men who signed the
Declaration all of different ages. The youngest signer was Edward Rutledge, the oldest signer
Benjamin Franklin, the largest name signed was

Genetic Screening and Physiological Testing in Young Athletes
I was stretching when I heard an overenthusiastic mother gloating on behalf of her daughter stating
that her daughter was smart and capable of becoming an elite figure skater when one coach explained,
She doesn t have the right body. Followed by the unmistakable whimpering of a little girl crying and
an arguing parent, it was clear the little girl did not meet the standard of flexibility and body
composition to reach the upper echelon of figure skating that her mother expected and she wanted.
Flexibility is a necessity in figure skating in order to execute technique well, while a low percentage
of body fat is important for aerobic power and jump height (Winter et al. 317). Angrily storming out,
the mother made it clear to the coach that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These tests will also increase competition making for more exciting spectator sports, and benefit the
United States by maintaining its international competitiveness and top Olympic rank.
It would be beneficial for individual athletes to use talent identification and search programs designed
to scout young athletes for future Olympics. Athletes put a tremendous amount of hours and years into
their specific sport in hopes of reaching high levels of competition one day, such as the Olympics. By
implementing a mode of genetic testing and testing physiological traits, it would remove the factor of
chance and give a more accurate reading of athletes likeliness to reach their goals. In addition, these
measures will save time by allowing the children to get involved in activities that fit them early on,
ultimately saving money as well. A mother, Donna Campiglia, replied eagerly to the idea of genetic
testing explaining that it would also save parental frustration (Macur). Some may argue that seeking
traits in a young child would ruin the factor of enjoyment in the sport, but if the child shows success in
the sport, there would be a higher chance of them enjoying what they do (Epstein). The benefits of
making these tests more available can be life changing for

Inquiry On The Humanities Classroom Essay
Inquiry Learning in the Humanities Classroom
1.0 What is Inquiry Learning in Humanities and Social Sciences?
Humanities and Social sciences is one of the most important subjects in the Australian Curriculum
because it leads students into learning about people and how people interact with each other and the
environment. It is foundational to sustainable practices and civic responsibility.
As parents, you may remember Geography; History; Business and Economics; and Civics and
Citizenship as being about absorbing facts that schools thought important for you to learn. Or you
might remember doing projects that seemed like time fillers in the scheme of what was important at
school (What is Inquiry Based Learning, 2004). You will also be aware of how fast the world is
changing and the impact of technology on the growth of information that surrounds us. You may have
experienced redundancy, elections or a global recession and understand that knowing facts is not very
useful for navigating difficult times. Facts alone do not educate students in what is needed to think
critically and creatively about a situation, to find opportunities in hardship or to learn and relearn in
the new knowledge economy (Warlick, 2013). Inquiry learning is a way of addressing the teaching of
skills and dispositions that will be essential for your children to thrive as active and informed citizens
of the future (Reynolds, 2014; ACARA, 2016).
The inquiry process includes children and teachers both

The Controversy of Artificial Intelligence
Throughout its history, artificial intelligence has always been a topic with much controversy. Should
human intelligence be mimicked? If so, are there ethical bounds on what computers should be
programmed to do? These are a couple of question that surround the artificial intelligence controversy.
This paper will discuss the pros and cons of artificial intelligence so that you will be able to make an
educated decision on the issue. What is Artificial Intelligence? The first step in getting anywhere with
this debate must begin with defining what artificial intelligence is exactly. Artificial Intelligence, also
known as AI, is the area of computer science focusing on creating machines that can engage in the
human behaviors of intelligence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ITSs will offer considerable flexibility in presentation of material and a greater ability to respond to
student needs. CONS of AI Every controversial issue has its downside. Some of the cons of AI
include: Cost Loss of jobs Losing social life Ethical Issues Fear Cost Perhaps the single most obvious
con is the amount of funding that has gone into AI research. Federal funding is critical because it can
sustain long term high risk research and provide a collection of technical and human resources. The
big question is whether such funding is justifiable. In a world where poverty, disease, and hunger still
plague the less fortunate, wouldn t the billions of dollars be better spent aiding those in need? Why
should we worry about the possibility of artificial life when we still haven t conquered our more
immediate problems? Funding is the smallest problem of AI. Losing Jobs in the Industry Many people
fear that adding AI to industries will mean a decrease in jobs, which it will. Many fields will feel the
effect of AI, if not today, in the near future. Assembly lines that once contained humans, now contain
robots. Check out clerks at stores are gradually being replaced with self check out machines. Bank
tellers aren t used as often because of the ease of automated teller machine (ATM) banking. In fact,
some banks charge a fee if you use their tellers for transactions that can be made at an ATM. In the

The Legend Of Alice Monologue
It was an immaculate wedding, white roses adorning the hedges and everyone dressed in lightly
coloured dresses and suits. Alice, a nineteen year old bridesmaid, attending the wedding as her auntie
was getting married, was in a pale blue dress and had light curly blonde hair. She didn t want to be
there, but she was forced by her Auntie. Her Auntie Paige loved the colour red and didn t love
anything else (she was only marrying for the money), she was so infuriated that there were only white
roses that she ended up destroying the delicate gold and white cake. Alice then began to sneak out, and
explore the intricate hedge maze as she wanted to leave the unfortunate wedding. As she walked along
she smelt the freshly picked white roses and felt the glistening sun on her, she loved the feeling of
being alone; being isolated from everyone, she didn t want to be like everyone else and end up getting
married, settle down and have kids, she wanted to explore and adventure around the world. Suddenly,
Alice spotted a peculiar creature that hopped along in the distance; it had tall ears, lightly coloured fur
and was quite small, it was holding an interesting device that looked like a compass crossed with a
clock. The creature started rushing faster than anything Alice had seen ... Show more content on

Who Was Andrew Carnegie As An Entrepreneur
Andrew Carnegie, Entrepreneur and Businessman
Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present. This quote by Albert Camus
represents the core of Andrew Carnegie. Though he is often identified as the greatest entrepreneur of
the 20th century and one of the most ruthless businessmen in history, Andrew Carnegie was also
blessed with a generous heart, which is most revealed by the fact that he gave away almost 90% of his
wealth. Like everything though, Carnegie had to begin somewhere. That somewhere was Scotland.
Born on November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline, Scotland to William and Margret Carnegie, Andrew s
childhood began as a simple one. His father was a weaver in Dunerfermline and, although successful,
his earnings allowed his family to live a basic but comfortable life. William hoped to pass down his
trade to Andrew when he came to age, so he began to expand his business in anticipation of the
additional labor, but this dream was not to be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of his business to the identical machine produced products that were cheaper and more readily
available. Because he was only skilled in a single craft, William could no longer find work to put food
on the table. Andrew always remembered this one flaw in his father and set out to make sure he did
not plummet to the same fate, living by the motto that those unable to control their fortunes can be set

Nutella Makes Up for Cocoa Shortage During World War II
The period was World War II there was a shortage of cocoa at the time; Mr. Pietro Ferrero, a pastry
maker founder of the Ferrero company thought that using hazelnuts and mixing it with skim milk and
a little of chocolate would be a good way to appease the short supply of cocoa by allowing chocolate
to last longer. This still being the product s two main ingredients today; hazelnut and cocoa. In Italy,
during the 1940s; Mr. Ferrero created the Nutella spread. In its earliest form, Nutella a hazel nut and
chocolate spread was originally called pasta Gianduja this of course was the Italian term, pasta means
paste and the Gianduja was the name of a famous character in the region in Italy. The paste was first
introduced by being made in the loaves of bread wrapped in tinfoil, used to make sandwiches. A
product popular to children, the bread was tossed away and the paste was most favored. Later workers
decided it would be best if the spread was made easier to spread on the bread then being known as
Supercrema Gianduja , thus being processed in large jars with a yellow sticker on the middle and a red
lid. Soon after in 1964 Pasta Gianduja or Supercrema Gianduja the product was named Nutella: nut
being the origin of the product and ella a soft Italian term.
Nutella rapidly became popular among Italy. Just 25 years ago, in 1983 the Ferrero Company
introduced the product to the United States market and it was first imported to the Northeastern part of
America and

Why Soccer Is Important To Me Essay
I kick the ball and position myself to kick the ball again but before I can a girl from my team comes
and takes it away, and before she can kick it a girl slides and tackles her. Now the other team gets a
corner kick. At the same time on the bench I can hear coach yelling at the top of his lungs to get on the
18 and to look out for the corner and to not forget the girl from the other team behind me. Next to
coach I see a girl telling him that his pick for formation is extremely intelligent and that his coaching
is superb. The girl from the other team kicks the ball. It s a goal. The goal keeper just turns to us and
said you were supposed to prevent that and follows it up by rolling her eyes and says if you are not
going to block that then why are you even playing .
We have all played sports, we have all been in a team, we all have differences with team mates, we
have all meet that one teammate which is to tough, to loud, too good, too bad, and to aggressive. We
all might not know what soccer is. Dictionary.com deffines soccer as: a form of football played
between two teams of 11 players, in which the ball may be advanced by kicking or by bouncing it off

The American Dream In Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man
Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison was written in 1952, a time in which the African American community
was facing new hardships that differed from the hardships of the generation before them. Slavery in
the United States was outlawed in 1865 after the Civil War with the passing of the Thirteenth
Amendment, but Jim Crow Laws, social norms, and inherited biases continued to make the American
Dream virtually impossible for anyone whose skin color was darker than eggshell. Today, many of us
believe that outright racism has been defeated; that because we eradicated sayings like separate but
equal , and white is right means there is no way we are like the people in the 1800s or the early 1900s.
In Invisible Man, Ellison highlights the differences between two generation s problems, however,
many of the stereotypes, phrases, and anecdotes Ellison utilizes in this work shines a light on our own
generational issues with race.
President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win
or lose. L.B.J alludes to the idea of an American dream that if you failed yesterday you can work hard
enough and still make a good life for yourself or your family, but can African Americans work hard
enough? Many older generations of the black community did truly believe in the American dream.
When someone goes from being in bondage to being free, even if that freedom is limited, it may feel
as though anything is possible but for the generations that were

How Narrative Elements Shape Qualitative Research
Literature Review Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted
counts (Eigen Arnett Educational Cultural Foundation Inc, 2010). Karri Holley and Julia Colyar
(2012) coauthors of the article Under Construction: How Narrative Elements Shape Qualitative
Research addresses three stories that shape the features of qualitative research. The three narratives;
Plot the DNA of the narrative; Point of View the author s connection to the narrative; Authorial
Distance the author s location within the text and Character function as the avenues for audience
investment in the topic of the qualitative research. These three narratives outline the story found at the
beginning and end of qualitative research. The module of the narrative elements demonstrates
narrative constructs offer but one approach toward mapping the complex, hidden dimensions of
experience (2012).
Thesis
Qualitative research involves the process of discovering not only what people think but also why they
believe it. The object is to get people to discuss their stance, beliefs, or viewpoints to acquire an
understanding of their feelings and motivation. The qualitative research utilizes in depth small group
studies to steer and assists the development of theory. The outcome of qualitative research tends to be
indicative of the opinion of the researcher rather than estimated.

Harper Lee, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, and Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer s Stone by J.K. Rowling. In in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout Finch encounters
issues regarding gender roles, which greatly impacts her identity. Similarly, in the novel Harry Potter

In the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J.K. Rowling, Ron Weasley is often
overshadowed by all his older brother s reputation, which has influenced him greatly. The aspect of
family has influenced both Ron s identity and my identity because affected our self esteems. In the
novel, Ron is the youngest amongst his five outstanding brothers. As the youngest son in the his
family, Ron was always comparing himself to his older brothers, who all achieved great success. This
is evident when Ron says I m the sixth in our family to go to Hogwarts. You could say I got a lot to
live up to. Bill and Charlie have already left Bill was Head Boy and Charlie was captain of Quidditch.
Now Percy s a prefect. Fred and George mess around a lot, but they still get really good marks and
everyone thinks they re really funny. Everyone expects me to do as well as the others, but if I do, it s
no big deal, because they did it first (Rowling 67). Being the youngest of five brothers is a
predicament to Ron, because he faces the constant pressure of living up to all of his brother s
accomplishments. His position in the family has led to a lot of his insecurities and self doubt. Unlike
Ron, I did not come from a large family and for that reason, I personally did not receive the same
pressure and expectations that Ron faced. Without these expectations, I did not struggle with issues of
self esteem, whereas Ron often feels inadequate about being in the shadow of his successful brothers,
which resulted in problems with his self confidence. The aspect of family in Ron s life and my own

interesting that Marjane could not relate to her home culture. She has difficulty with enculturation.
Enculturation is the process by which individuals learn and adapt to ways and manners of their

If operations were outsourced, they would not be able to oversee all aspects of production and insure
that quality was high.
Vertical Value Chain Benefits
Hosting your own in house vertical value chain has many benefits for a business like ECCO. ECCO s
many facilities in different countries can take advantage of local resources and expertise in different
areas like the leather research center in Denmark. Another benefit is being able to oversee operations
and produce products faster. Inventory can be controlled efficiently, meaning that ECCO can wait
longer to produce items to match market mean due to how long it would take to place an order with an
outsourced manufacturer and to receive that order to deliver to customers.
Vertical Value Chain Cons
The main negative for ECCO in having an integrated vertical value chain is increased costs over
competitors. For most shoe companies, the cheapest option is to outsource manufacturing, which is
what most of ECCO s competitors have done. Another con of keeping production within the company
is that when no competition is present, often production is slow and inefficient. Managing the cons is
vital for ECCO, which they have been able to do.
Economic Strategic Factors Considered with Integrated Value Chain
Economic factors that are faced with an integrated value chain include high labor costs. If producing

The Great Old Ones
When you chose to represent each of your albums on individual novellas from one of the most
renowned horror authors in the world, there can hardly be a short supply of thematic inspiration.
Numerous bands have created concept albums based around their own ideas, or pen songs that take
insight from creative writing, but few bands will dedicate the entire span of an album to an existing
piece of literature.
H.P. Lovecraft is the lifeblood of France s ambient black metal quintet, The Great Old Ones. His
grotesque imagery in his vivid fictional recounting goes hand in hand with the bleak grandeur that The
Great Old Ones conjures, which simultaneously takes their audience on a journey through the band s

EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy is very much a continuation of the band s past two albums, only with
increased theatrics and wild execution. The guitars are solely focused on creating a grandiose
atmosphere but predominantly rely on walls of sound and swerving rhythms; the halfway point of The
Ritual inducing a heavy Emperor influence. The technique may sound one dimensional but it s what
imagery is being portrayed by the guitars that command your attention, not how it is portrayed.
Finally, a special mention has to go to Léo Isnard s pummelling drumming, which is nothing short of
breathtaking throughout this accursed plot.
The Great Old Ones have once again breathed further life into the fictional world of H.P Lovecraft as
well as mastering their chosen aesthetic of atmospheric black metal. Moreover, their narration of The
Shadow over Innsmouth vividly assures everyone, just like the novel once did, that humanity is

Analysis Of Giuseppe Mazzini s The Duties Of Man
Giuseppe Mazzini was instrumental in unifying the Italian nation as his ideals spread throughout Italy
s intellectual community. Although many of his attempts at rallying the common people to a
revolution failed, he circulated and popularized the idea of a fully unified Italy for the first time since
the fall of the Roman Empire. In his work The Duties of Man, Mazzini establishes that he is largely a
romantic nationalist, since he draws heavily on history; however, he utilizes the power of certain
liberal nationalist sentiments such as individuals rights in his own work. In this document, Mazzini
largely focuses on how the ideas circulated after the French Revolution regarding the rights of man
have corrupted the true nature of a nation by creating a culture of greed and egoism. While he openly
discourages the erasure and pursuit of these rights, he is quick to point out that individuals egoism and
each nation s separation of class ... has grown and grows worse in nearly every country, and especially
where I write the price of the necessaries of life has gone on continually rising, the wages of the
working man in many branches of industry falling and the population multiplying (87). He argues here
that allowing any nation to be solely characterized by the rights of its citizens causes a nation to define
itself based on the millions of individuals, dividing any community or society which he believes is the
backbone of the nation. In Mazzini s view, the solution to this is by fostering a national culture of duty
to one another. When he asks, What is Society but a collection of men who have agreed to bring the
strength of the many in support of the rights of each? the audience is forced to question their own
personal hierarchy between rights and duties; for what is a nation if there is no work or duty in
achieving and maintaining the rights of every man within the nation (89)? It is through this
investigation that Mazzini reveals his ideas of what makes a nation a nation. By using familial themes,
much like the Russian romantic nationalist, Khomyakov, he is able to portray the nation s people more
clearly as a brotherhood and the nation itself as a maternal figure. Both Mazzini and Khomyakov

The Impact Of Censorship On The Global Economy Essay
Economic Warfare
We re living in hyper connected world, where effective censorship is difficult to maintain for long.
Even state secrets, sooner or later, will leak out and become widely available in the internet. The head
liner scandals of Manning (Sledge, 2013), Snowden (Franceschi Bicchierai, 2014), and Clinton
(Carson, 2016) amply illustrate this. What s more, even isolated military misconducts, like the 2007
Baghdad airstrike, (McGreal, 2010) are quickly leaked online and shape public sentiment. As a result,
it is becoming increasingly harder for any government to rally support for any military engagement.
For example, even though the US people s perception of Syria is worse this year than it was a year
ago, still 59% of the population don t wish the government to get more involved (Polling Report,
2016). As a result, the USA and the EU try to compensate through their influence over the global
economy.
Since 2005, U.S. policymakers have increasingly turned to sophisticated types of economic sanctions
as a foreign policy tool of first resort. From the development of banking sanctions limiting Iran s
ability to secure financing from Western capital markets to new sanctions targeting Russia s financial
system and the development of its oil resources, U.S. policymakers have touted these innovative tools
as extremely powerful while also being tailored and precise. (Feaver Lorber, 2015)

The Anunciation And Expulsion From Paradise Summary
Giovani di Paolo s The Annunciation and Expulsion from Paradise is currently in the National Gallery
of Art in Washington DC. According to the panel next to the artwork, the piece was finished in 1435
CE and made of tempera on panel. This Sienese altarpiece from the start of the Italian Renaissance
shows the experimentation of form at that time. Giovanni di Paolo uses golden texture to display
divinity, line to illustrate architectural perspective, and a strategic use of scale throughout the
composition in order to portray the importance of the religious context. The golden foil that
compliments tempera works at the time draws your eye to specific points in the piece. Drawing your
eye to the upper left corner, the golden material then aids the eye in traveling down towards the
bottom right corner. Because the largest golden form is in the upper right corner, your sight starts
there. This is where god is represented and the symbol for divinity starts. Divinity implied by golden
nimbuses or halos continue throughout the piece around the head of divine figures. The only two
figures on the left without nimbuses represent Adam and Eve who are no longer divine one kicked out
of paradise. This relates to the second part of the title, Expulsion from Paradise. For obvious cultural
reasons, the angels have the heavenly halos. One angel is specifically known, Archangel Gabriel,
because of the annunciation scene with Mary in the center. Joseph, at the right, and Mary both also

This constellation was, as mentioned above, part of Centaurus, so there was no traditional myth about
its creation. However, Crux was not separated as a singular constellation until 1516, by Italian
explorer Andreas Corsali. Quite derivatively, the Southern Cross (Crux) was named for its shape, and
the hemisphere that can see it. The Ancient Greeks once were able to see it, but over time it

Children often display the signs of insecurity and the need to be safe. Needs of Love, Affection and
Belongingness are needs for safety and for physiological well being are satisfied; the next class of
needs for love, affection and belongingness can emerge. Maslow states that people seek to overcome
feelings of loneliness and alienation. This involves both giving and receiving love, affection and the
sense of belonging. Needs for Esteem When the first three classes of needs are satisfied, the needs for
esteem can become dominant. These involve needs for both self esteem and for the esteem a person

Data mining is the process through which previously unknown patterns in data were discovered.
Another definition would be a process that uses statistical, mathematical, artificial intelligence, and

from large databases. This includes most types of automated data analysis. A third definition: Data

dollars from Tyco and swindling $430 million in the sale of company shares. Tyco s former chief
corporate counsel Mark A. Belnick was also found to have forged business records to hide over $14

The first trial began in October 2003, which was declared a mistrial in April 2004, because a juror said
she received a letter pressurizing her to convict Kozlowski and Swartz. The second trial began in

The spending and loans were able to go on for so long because of Kozlowski s unethical leadership

  • 2. Presidential Election Vs. Election Fifteen years ago, President George Bush won the presidential election beating Al Gore, who had won the popular vote. This election is one of the most contested in this century. The same election is also an example of the United States Electoral College voting system in action. The Electoral College permits a candidate to win a presidential election without winning the popular vote. The American campaign and election system can be broken down into three significant parts, the nomination, the campaign, and the election. Each portion of the campaign and election system is distinct from the other, but have some similarities. Prior to running in the national presidential election, the candidate must win the party nomination. The nomination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to nomination issues, there are campaign fund issues. As described by Paul Steinhauser and Robert Yoon s article, Cost to Win Congressional Election Skyrockets, for CNN, the cost to win congressional elections is rising steeply. Steinhauser and Yoon explain that on average it costs $1.6 million to win a House seat, which, after accounting for inflation, is 344% more than in 1986. Steinhauser and Yoon also emphasize that in the House of Representatives, incumbents outspend their challengers by an average ratio of $3 for every $1 the challenger spends. Senate incumbents on average outspend their challengers by $3.5 million. The authors also explain that in 2012 outside groups spent $457 million on congressional elections. An outside group could be a group or individual, for example a PAC (Political Action Committee) or a wealthy individual. Ashley Parker relates her article, Outside Money Drives a Deluge of Political Ads, in The New York Times to the influx in spending by outside groups. She explains that political spending for advertising is increasing rapidly compared to past elections. Parker also emphasizes that outside groups buy more advertisement time than the candidates themselves. She concludes her article by emphasizing that soon enough political advertisements are going to start airing on TV right after November elections, this is some two years before the next vote. • 3. RBA Monetary Policy The government may also use monetary policy in order to contain economic growth. Monetary policy refers to changes in interest rates in order to influence aggregate demand and economic activity. Monetary policy is conducted by the Reserve Bank of Australia, who use domestic market operations in order to change interest rates. If the RBA takes a loose monetary policy stance the RBA will purchase Commonwealth Government Securities in secondary bond markets. This increases the cash in the markets, and therefore pushes the overnight cash rate down. Interest rates will be lowered, which will result in higher consumer demand as the cost of interest on mortgages and credit card repayments will decrease. On the other hand a tight monetary stance results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Microeconomic policies promote the efficient operation of markets as the most effective mechanism for achieving efficient allocation and use of resources, raise productivity and increase aggregate supply. Increased aggregate supply will result in decreased inflationary pressures and increased international competitiveness as Australian producers are able to supply international markets with a greater volume of goods at lower prices. Greater export earnings will consequently improve Australia s terms of trade, and will decrease the current account deficit. Microeconomic reforms that promote increased competition in both domestic and international markets will also encourage greater innovation and cheaper product, which will benefit consumers. • 4. Pivotal Events Determining the Outcome of the American... People of the 21st century might question what the most pivotal events were during the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence, which was one of these events was mainly written by Thomas Jefferson but edited by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. The Declaration of Independence was a celebration of the patriot s breakaway from the British. Another event happened on Christmas day 1776, when George Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River with the hopes of capturing the Hessians who were a group that King George III paid to fight or them. With luck on the troop s side, they captured between 900 and 1,000 prisoners and took over Trenton, New Jersey. And finally, in Valley Forge, PA Washington s troops went through harsh weather and long hours of training. By June 19th, 1778 the day they left, Washington s troops were stronger than they were before with the help of General Baron Von Steuben. The most pivotal events in determining the outcome of the American Revolution were Declaration of Independence (June 1776), Washington s Crossing (December1776), and Valley Forge (1777 1778). The Declaration of Independence was mainly written by Thomas Jefferson with the help of the Continental Congress. Writing the declaration was one of Jefferson s most enduring moments in his life. There were about 56 men who signed the Declaration all of different ages. The youngest signer was Edward Rutledge, the oldest signer Benjamin Franklin, the largest name signed was ... • 5. Genetic Screening and Physiological Testing in Young Athletes I was stretching when I heard an overenthusiastic mother gloating on behalf of her daughter stating that her daughter was smart and capable of becoming an elite figure skater when one coach explained, She doesn t have the right body. Followed by the unmistakable whimpering of a little girl crying and an arguing parent, it was clear the little girl did not meet the standard of flexibility and body composition to reach the upper echelon of figure skating that her mother expected and she wanted. Flexibility is a necessity in figure skating in order to execute technique well, while a low percentage of body fat is important for aerobic power and jump height (Winter et al. 317). Angrily storming out, the mother made it clear to the coach that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These tests will also increase competition making for more exciting spectator sports, and benefit the United States by maintaining its international competitiveness and top Olympic rank. It would be beneficial for individual athletes to use talent identification and search programs designed to scout young athletes for future Olympics. Athletes put a tremendous amount of hours and years into their specific sport in hopes of reaching high levels of competition one day, such as the Olympics. By implementing a mode of genetic testing and testing physiological traits, it would remove the factor of chance and give a more accurate reading of athletes likeliness to reach their goals. In addition, these measures will save time by allowing the children to get involved in activities that fit them early on, ultimately saving money as well. A mother, Donna Campiglia, replied eagerly to the idea of genetic testing explaining that it would also save parental frustration (Macur). Some may argue that seeking traits in a young child would ruin the factor of enjoyment in the sport, but if the child shows success in the sport, there would be a higher chance of them enjoying what they do (Epstein). • 6. Inquiry On The Humanities Classroom Essay Inquiry Learning in the Humanities Classroom 1.0 What is Inquiry Learning in Humanities and Social Sciences? Humanities and Social sciences is one of the most important subjects in the Australian Curriculum because it leads students into learning about people and how people interact with each other and the environment. It is foundational to sustainable practices and civic responsibility. As parents, you may remember Geography; History; Business and Economics; and Civics and Citizenship as being about absorbing facts that schools thought important for you to learn. Or you might remember doing projects that seemed like time fillers in the scheme of what was important at school (What is Inquiry Based Learning, 2004). You will also be aware of how fast the world is changing and the impact of technology on the growth of information that surrounds us. You may have experienced redundancy, elections or a global recession and understand that knowing facts is not very useful for navigating difficult times. Facts alone do not educate students in what is needed to think critically and creatively about a situation, to find opportunities in hardship or to learn and relearn in the new knowledge economy (Warlick, 2013). Inquiry learning is a way of addressing the teaching of skills and dispositions that will be essential for your children to thrive as active and informed citizens of the future (Reynolds, 2014; ACARA, 2016). CONS of AI Every controversial issue has its downside. Some of the cons of AI include: Cost Loss of jobs Losing social life Ethical Issues Fear Cost Perhaps the single most obvious con is the amount of funding that has gone into AI research. Federal funding is critical because it can sustain long term high risk research and provide a collection of technical and human resources. The big question is whether such funding is justifiable. In a world where poverty, disease, and hunger still plague the less fortunate, wouldn t the billions of dollars be better spent aiding those in need? Why should we worry about the possibility of artificial life when we still haven t conquered our more immediate problems? Funding is the smallest problem of AI. She didn t want to be there, but she was forced by her Auntie. Her Auntie Paige loved the colour red and didn t love anything else (she was only marrying for the money), she was so infuriated that there were only white roses that she ended up destroying the delicate gold and white cake. Alice then began to sneak out, and explore the intricate hedge maze as she wanted to leave the unfortunate wedding. As she walked along she smelt the freshly picked white roses and felt the glistening sun on her, she loved the feeling of being alone; being isolated from everyone, she didn t want to be like everyone else and end up getting married, settle down and have kids, she wanted to explore and adventure around the world. • 15. The American Dream In Ralph Ellison s Invisible Man Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison was written in 1952, a time in which the African American community was facing new hardships that differed from the hardships of the generation before them. Slavery in the United States was outlawed in 1865 after the Civil War with the passing of the Thirteenth Amendment, but Jim Crow Laws, social norms, and inherited biases continued to make the American Dream virtually impossible for anyone whose skin color was darker than eggshell. Today, many of us believe that outright racism has been defeated; that because we eradicated sayings like separate but equal , and white is right means there is no way we are like the people in the 1800s or the early 1900s. In Invisible Man, Ellison highlights the differences between two generation s problems, however, many of the stereotypes, phrases, and anecdotes Ellison utilizes in this work shines a light on our own generational issues with race. President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose. L.B.J alludes to the idea of an American dream that if you failed yesterday you can work hard enough and still make a good life for yourself or your family, but can African Americans work hard enough? Although many of his attempts at rallying the common people to a revolution failed, he circulated and popularized the idea of a fully unified Italy for the first time since the fall of the Roman Empire. In his work The Duties of Man, Mazzini establishes that he is largely a romantic nationalist, since he draws heavily on history; however, he utilizes the power of certain liberal nationalist sentiments such as individuals rights in his own work. In this document, Mazzini largely focuses on how the ideas circulated after the French Revolution regarding the rights of man have corrupted the true nature of a nation by creating a culture of greed and egoism. While he openly discourages the erasure and pursuit of these rights, he is quick to point out that individuals egoism and each nation s separation of class ... has grown and grows worse in nearly every country, and especially where I write the price of the necessaries of life has gone on continually rising, the wages of the working man in many branches of industry falling and the population multiplying (87). He argues here that allowing any nation to be solely characterized by the rights of its citizens causes a nation to define itself based on the millions of individuals, dividing any community or society which he believes is the backbone of the nation. In Mazzini s view, the solution to this is by fostering a national culture of duty to one another. When he asks, What is Society but a collection of men who have agreed to bring the strength of the many in support of the rights of each? the audience is forced to question their own personal hierarchy between rights and duties; for what is a nation if there is no work or duty in achieving and maintaining the rights of every man within the nation (89)? It is through this investigation that Mazzini reveals his ideas of what makes a nation a nation. By using familial themes, much like the Russian romantic nationalist, Khomyakov, he is able to portray the nation s people more clearly as a brotherhood and the nation itself as a maternal figure. Even state secrets, sooner or later, will leak out and become widely available in the internet. The head liner scandals of Manning (Sledge, 2013), Snowden (Franceschi Bicchierai, 2014), and Clinton (Carson, 2016) amply illustrate this. What s more, even isolated military misconducts, like the 2007 Baghdad airstrike, (McGreal, 2010) are quickly leaked online and shape public sentiment. As a result, it is becoming increasingly harder for any government to rally support for any military engagement. For example, even though the US people s perception of Syria is worse this year than it was a year ago, still 59% of the population don t wish the government to get more involved (Polling Report, 2016). • 38. The Anunciation And Expulsion From Paradise Summary Giovani di Paolo s The Annunciation and Expulsion from Paradise is currently in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. According to the panel next to the artwork, the piece was finished in 1435 CE and made of tempera on panel. This Sienese altarpiece from the start of the Italian Renaissance shows the experimentation of form at that time. Giovanni di Paolo uses golden texture to display divinity, line to illustrate architectural perspective, and a strategic use of scale throughout the composition in order to portray the importance of the religious context. The golden foil that compliments tempera works at the time draws your eye to specific points in the piece. Drawing your eye to the upper left corner, the golden material then aids the eye in traveling down towards the bottom right corner. Because the largest golden form is in the upper right corner, your sight starts there. This is where god is represented and the symbol for divinity starts. Divinity implied by golden nimbuses or halos continue throughout the piece around the head of divine figures. The only two figures on the left without nimbuses represent Adam and Eve who are no longer divine one kicked out of paradise. This relates to the second part of the title, Expulsion from Paradise.
