Should Junk Food Be Banned In Schools
Junk Food is not Always Junky Schools tend to have vending machines or a place that you can buy a
snack, sweet treat, or a delicious drink. Many people are concerned that the food that is being sold at
schools is not a good thing for the school or the students. However, they obviously do not see the
positive impacts the sale of junk food has on the school. Junk food should not be banned in schools
because schools can get more funding, students will still get access to junk food, and the government
should not control the diet of its citizens. Schools that sell snacks from vending machines tend to
make a lot of money from the vending. Students buying from vending machines gave nearly ⅓ of high
schools and middles schools a profit of $1,000 $9,999 (Datar and Nicosa 7). Schools that focus on the
ban of junk food lack the funding for gym classes and after school sports (Carson Dewitt and Jacobs
15). Schools when they have a healthier food options, students tend to turn down the option. This is
seen in article Some School Districts Quit Healthier Lunch Program, the author, Carolyn Thompson
states After just one year, some schools around the country are dropping out of the healthier new
federal lunch program, complaining that so many students turned up their noses at meals packed with
whole grains, fruits and vegetables that the cafeterias were losing money. (1). This shows that the sell
of food from vending machines at schools help give the school more funding and it allows

Govinda s Journey Of Siddhartha
People never stop learning. Many people believe that once they leave school they are done learning;
that is far from the truth. Siddhartha is a prime example. Around 625 B.C., a young man named
Siddhartha set off on a journey to find himself. His journey led him through the spiritual world and
then the material world, and eventually both; there he finds the path needed to reach enlightenment.
Throughout his journey Siddhartha had three main teachers; Govinda, who taught him the balance
between people and the self, Kamala, who taught him the art of love, and Vasudeva, who taught him
the importance of listening, together the three of them helped Siddhartha reach enlightenment. A
friend from childhood, Govinda, is Siddhartha s first teacher on the road to enlightenment. While still
a Samana, Govinda and Siddhartha are begging for food in the village when Siddhartha says, Well,
Govinda, are we on the right road? Are we gaining knowledge? Are we approaching Salvation? Or are
we perhaps going in circles we who thought to escape from the cycle. Govinda said: We have learned
much, Siddhartha. There still remains much to learn. We are not going in circles, we are going
upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps (Hesse 17 18). He is teaching
Siddhartha that although it doesn t feel like anything is changing or anything is different, he is getting
somewhere but it is a slow and tedious process. Govinda shows up in Siddhartha s life again, at the
very end,

Madness and Control in Ken Kesey s One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest
Ken Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest is a story revolving around Chief Bromden, a
schizophrenic patient in a ward who pretends to be deaf and stupid. The ward is controlled by a nurse
named Nurse Ratched. Nurse Ratched has a strict system of control over the ward and her patients,
choosing staff members whom follow her loyally. In the ward we have two types of patients; the
Acutes and the Chronics, the Acutes are those whom can still be treated and can become model
citizens while the Chronics are those who the staff believe are long past saving. Chief, the narrator is a
Chronic and looks at the happenings within the ward from a passive point of view.
One day, Randle McMurphy a newly admitted patient, tears up the place by introducing gambling and
other unsightly games into the ward, he does this to undermine and usurp the staff s control and order,
but in particular Nurse Ratched s authority. This threatens her and she has a momentary break down.
One can argue that threatened by the patient s and despite her cover of control Nurse Ratched actually
feels out of control inside, and with the possibility she is not so well herself. This is supported when in
the book Nurse Ratched discusses with another nurse what type of person McMurphy is, she says he s;
controlling and manipulative of others to his own ends, using others as stepping stones to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spectrum Sensing
Abstract The constrained available spectrum and the incompetence in the spectrum utilization and
administration require another correspondence innovation and communication technology.. Spectrum
sensing is used to detect the (unlicensed) the unused (licensed) frequency bands. Spectrum sensing
includes locating the usage of spectrum and their features across different dimensions such as code
frequency ,time and space. The key features of CR system is that it senses the electromagnetic
environment to use their operation and dynamically vary its radio operating parameters. With the
likely transition of radio communications from static to dynamic spectrum access in the near future,
spectrum sensing has become an interesting area of research. Even though many signal detection
methods have a long history, economical implementations of consumer devices employing spectrum
sensing are still missing. In this research an overview of current state of the art spectrum sensing
methods, limited to the binary decision of channel occupancy is presented. Existing methods are
categorized into energy detector, cyclostationary and matched filter methods. A concise introduction
and theoretical background of various spectrum sensing methods based on their operation, and

1970 Environmental Issues
The Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1970 to help provide solutions to the
environmental issues and problems that need to be addressed. The name of the agency tells us that
they are here to protect the environment and hold those who would harm our earth responsible for
their actions. Unfortunately, the very agency that has been tasked with our protection has now become
the perpetrator of an environmental disaster in Colorado. Last week, the EPA accidently dumped over
three million gallons of toxic waste into Animus River (Kinkaid, 2015). It would appear that the good
guys in white hats have turned their hats in for a new color that bad guys are associated with in the
movies (black hats). The Fox news article by Kinkaid is an opinion ... Show more content on

The amount of pollution that has spilled is three times more than was previously reported (Garrison,
2015). As of August 10th, the mine was still discharging 500 gallons a minute into the Animus River.
The EPA administrator Shaun McGrath has stated that the EPA has contained the rest of the spill in
two ponds near the spill site and they are treating it (Garrison, 2015). Another group of people affected
by the spill is the Navajo Nation, and the Navajo Nation commission has declared a state of
emergency. The Nation is 27,000 square miles and has been considered to be the size of some of the
smaller states like West Virginia. Navajo Nation president Russel Begaye has asked an attorney to
look into filing a lawsuit against the EPA (Garrison, 2015). Russel has also stated his dissatisfaction
with the EPA s handling of this disaster, along with not being clear about exactly what toxins have
been released into the river. The people of the Nation are concerned about the water quality and how it
will affect drinking water, cattle, and crops. The EPA seems to have made quite a few mistakes in
dealing with this spill; New Mexico s Governor Martinez says that she did not even find out about the
spill from the EPA. She received the information from tribal officials in Southern Ute (Garrison,

Farmers Union Iced Coffee, Advertisement
Farmers Union Iced Coffee was launched in 1977 by a group of dairy farmers who were creating a
new recipe for the Royal Adelaide show. The milk beverage is Australia s largest selling flavored milk
and each year Australians consume in excess of 27 million litres of the beverage each year.
There are a few ideas and issues that are raised in the text that I can point out. I think that the idea of
having an ad about the worlds history and issues while showing normal every day Australians playing
out the roles and then able to hide the real message is a sensational advertisement.
The general idea in any advertisement is to try and increase the sale and popularity of a product. I
have probably seen the Farmers Union ad a thousand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Alternative reading would be getting the ad for its real backgrounds meanings which are disguised
through normal looking people, but representing world wide issues. Someone would have to be pretty
switched on throughout the adverts between their programs to pick it up. I do not think someone could
have figured out each event the first time they saw the ad, it would probably take someone a few times
to see the ad then work it all out.
The use of intertextuality in the advertisement of Farmers Union shows Australian tradesmen and
hardworking sweaty men drinking it while they are working. It would give the message that this sort
of beverage is for big, strong and tough men and is not for the light hearted. It also shows that if you

George Dixon Biography
George Dixon is a Canadian boxer commonly known as Little Chocolate or The Chocolate Drop.
Dixon was the first black boxer to win a bantamweight world championship. Despite the hard times,
segregation, and mistreatment of blacks during his boxing era; George Dixon managed to fight his
way to being one of the most prominent black boxers. Little Chocolate s boxing career was great
winning almost double the amount of his losses. Dixon is considered by many to be the best fighter of
the 19th Century. (Cox) George Dixon was born on July 29, 1870 in Africville in Halifax, Nova
Scotia, Canada. Dixon was inspired to box in Boston, Massachusetts where he spent some of his

Dixon and McCarthy fought for 70 rounds and both wore two ounce gloves. After the exhausting 70
round duel it was ruled a draw. On June 27, 1890 after Dixon won his first title, he defeated Nunc
Wallace, who was the holder of the British world bantamweight title. Little Chocolate controlled the
fight from the beginning, and knocked out Nunc Wallace in only the eighteenth round. (Roberts Skutt,
1997) Dixon knocked out his next bantamweight challenger Johnny Murphy in 1891, which further
proved that he deserved the bantamweight title. In the same year, Dixon and McCarthy had a rematch
and Dixon knocked McCarthy. Two years after being champion in the bantamweight division, Little
Chocolate outgrew the weight standards for the bantamweight class. He then moved up to the
featherweight division and competed. In 1892 George Dixon proved he could compete in the
featherweight class, as he defeated Fred Johnson by way of knockout in the fourteenth

What Is Okonkwo s Role In Igbo Society
Since the civilization of the African continent the natives were seen as uncivilized and wild. Achebe
throughout Things Fall Apart works to counter these very stereotypes. Set in an Ibo village in Nigeria
during the start of European civilization, the book focuses on the main character Okonkwo and his
prideful life to give insight on the true nature of Ibo culture. Achebe uses the abstract concept of the
patriarchal society and importance of conversation to humanize the Ibo people. Seen in the interaction
between Okonkwo and his wives, this matter illustrates the influential role of the patriarch in Ibo
society. Speaking of his role in society Okonkwo gives the advice that, if [a man] was unable to rule
his women...he was not really a man (Achebe 53). Based off of Okonkwo s advice we know the men
in Ibo society hold the power over their families and if they can not control their family that they are
not really a man. Okonkwo demonstrates the power he holds over his wife and children many times,
often going too far. For instance, during the Week of Peace Okonkwo beats his wife Ojiugo when she
went out to a friend s house without notice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Achebe explains that, the art of conversation is regarded very highly, (Achebe 7) among the Ibo.
Because the Ibo people care for how their conversations are carried out, one would guess that they are
educated and knowledgeable enough to be able to do so. In some ways one might consider them to be
able to have even more intricate conversations then we do today. When the Europeans arrive in
Umuofia they do not quite understand the Ibo people. The District Commissioner even complains of,
[the Ibo people s] love of superfluous words (Achebe 204). The words that Ibo people use in
conversation is even baffling to the Europeans. This can make one say that in some ways the Ibo
people are more advanced than the

The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On Sports...
Although many theorists criticize that the extracurricular activities takes valuable time from the
family, relaxation and leisure time, especially sport participation requires more and more time due to
its increase in competiveness and amount of practice (Melman et al., 2008; Shaw et al., 1996 in
Fredericks, 2012). In Fredericks study (2012), the unique time requirement in sports participation is
explained as an enforcer to develop even stronger relationships, better refinement of the skills and
most importantly more conscientiousness. The media concentrates on the highly involved students,
which make approximately 3 6% of the entire high school student body, that clock in over 20 h per
week, whereas the average of students participates 7 8 h per week in afterschool program, which
means they stay for less then 1.5 h more after school (Fredericks, 2012). Paradoxically, according to
Mahoney et al. (2006 in Fredericks, 2012) actually the most involved students, at least 20 h/per week,
showed better capability in adjusting to the academically and psychological demands. These results
are only applicable to a very few amount of students and not to the majority of the American
population.
In research, a small correlation between intensity of the extracurricular activity and negative
adjustment has been proven in boys, but overall the achievement pressure made by parents, the
athletes themselves, the society, the century we live in and their surroundings has shown to be much

Outstanding Football Player Research Paper
Down, Set, Hut! The smell of Fall was in the air, and the sound of football echoed around the stadium.
Many people think that being a successful football player is fairly easy. They claim being big, strong,
and fast is really the only tools you need to be great at the sport. However, the qualities of an
outstanding football player go far beyond just their physical capabilities. The physical aspect of
football of course helps, but it is all the great characteristics put together that will make a player truly
outstanding. The best sign of an outstanding football player is if they have these three qualities: a
strong work ethic, mental toughness, and great leadership.
Great football players aren t just strong, but they have a really amazing work ethic. If a player has a
strong work ethic, he often attempts to do extra. These players will stay an hour after practice is over
making sure they perfect their craft. They strive to be perfect in everything they do, and that is one of
the reasons they make such outstanding football players. The players that show this trait off are the
ones who take no days off. When these hard working players hit the field they are focused, and ready

That is why it is so vastly important to have mental toughness as an outstanding football player.
Another reason why having mental toughness is important is because most of the time, these are the
players who take coaching best. They can handle criticism and use it to make themselves better. Also,
having mental toughness is important in the 4th quarter and when you are tired. If you lack mental
toughness in these situations then more than likely you are going to give up, and any outstanding
football player doesn t give up. Along with being mentally tough every outstanding football player

The Schematics of a Film Disk
The characteristics of the disc surface affect the flow patterns generated on the film as well as the
residence time of the reactants film. The effect of disc texture on particle characteristics is depicted in
Figure 7 and Figure 8. It can be seen that using the grooved disc surface results in smaller particle size
and narrower particle size distribution as compared to smooth disc surface. A narrow particle size
distribution for the production of silver nanoparticles was achieved by Iyer et al.[43] using the
grooved disc. The authors postulated that that the corrugated nature of the grooved disc promoted
shear induced micromixing of the thin film on the disc at higher rotational speed. The efficient
micromixing ensured that all the particles were exposed to the similar conditions to maintain a narrow
size distribution [43]. Similar enhancement effects of grooved surfaces have been reported for styrene
polymerisation in the SDR [9]. It has also been suggested in the literature that surface textures have
the potential to suppress liquid channelling or rivulet flow compared to a smooth surface under
identical conditions of liquid flowrate and liquid properties so that a higher wetted area is achieved
[44]. Rivulet flow as opposed to film flow would result in larger average film thicknesses which may
lead to detrimental performance, especially under strictly laminar flow conditions (i.e. where any
surface wave induced turbulence is absent). Thus, the intensifying effects of the

The High Antioxidant Qualities Of The Muscadine Grapes My...
In a quest to explore Christianity, Marshall Petersen began visiting the Sunday school with the
encouragement of his wife. I am his Sunday school teacher and upon further communication, I
informed him of the high antioxidant qualities of the Muscadine grapes my family s produce company

various products developed using their seeds. He was interested. The grapes became a hot commodity

Marshall told him that it was just a formality to guarantee a continuing business relationship. The
signing of that contract established a formal business agreement between the two companies. Our
business transactions were running perfectly, we were trying to meet the demand for our product, and
until recently when a company in Texas offered to pay me twice the going rate for my products. I
informed Marshall as I don t want to leave him out to dry. He was very angry and he told me that he

he had always paid, per the requirements contract between our businesses and in accordance with an

CEO pay in the United States. While no one would argue that today s executives earn more than ever

they should earn. Those who would oppose the motion of placing limits on the amount that executives
should earn argue that CEOs pay is commensurate with their performance and the high risk nature of
their job. Similarly, those in favour of the motion would argue that such high salaries only serve to

skyrocketing executive pay, that it is imperative that government place limits on the salaries of CEOS

(Just quickly, I want to say that this film does deal with sensitive material relating to sexual
harassment and sexual assault, and I don t want this film to have a negative impact on anyone reading

Consommé begins with a young woman leaving an apartment building late at night after a fight with
someone. She begins walking briskly through the streets of Brooklyn. The viewer then sees this same
woman slowly waking up in a brightly lit bedroom, which is what reveals that this short film will be

In contrast to the dark, foreboding, dangerous night flashbacks, the current shots of the woman waking
up are all well lit, bright with sunshine, and full of light colors. They are quiet and peaceful. However,
the woman s face and body are beaten up pretty badly. She has cuts and bruises on her legs and face,
reminding the viewer of the brutal attack she endured the night before. At this point in the film, the
viewer still doesn t know exactly how the attack will end will the man just beat her up? Will he rape
her? Will she have to go to the hospital?
The final flashback moment I will discuss, so as not to give away the ending, is the moment this
woman realizes she is going to be sexually assaulted. Prior to this, the man had been just beating her
up in the alley. He was kicking her and throwing her around. However, he pins her up against a
vehicle in the alley and the woman hears him begin to undo his belt buckle. When she realizes what is

The Importance Of Love In Romeo And Juliet
Now many would call Romeo and Juliet the play that teaches us that love, at first sight, is real. While
reading this play the only thing the audience will be able to understand from this story is that love
holds no bounds, that some love is forever. In class, we came to the conclusion that this play is about
immature, naive, stubborn kids who do not understand the concept of what real love is. Their demised
stemmed from a fast paced relationship which bloomed from rejection. Stupidity, naivety,
stubbornness, and immaturity are all traits that may be used to describe Romeo Montague. Now, these
traits shaped Romeo to be the most irresponsible guy ever which lead him and his supposed love to
their demise. Now it is not to be said that Juliet was not at fault, on the contrary, she is also to blame
for their demise because the traits Romeo has she seems to have too. Most of these ideas seem pretty
petty for older people, which is why it weighs so heavy on them, they are children, if they would have
waited to even commence their relationship they would have outgrown most of these traits and their
demise may have been avoided altogether. At the beginning of the play, we see Romeo carry the same
feelings that he expresses for Juliet for someone else. Before there was Juliet in Romeo s life there
was Rosaline, another Capulet. If you see how Romeo expresses his feelings for Rosaline, you can see
that it is the same way he later expresses them for Juliet. An example of this would be

Salt Water Lab Report
We did Lab 2 part 1, first we found the weight of the graduated cylinder and 10 ml of water. Then we
found the weight of the graduated cylinder. After that we found the we found the weight of the 10 ml
of water by subtracting the weight of the water and the cylinder by the weight of only the cylinder. We
found the volume of the water by seeing how much the water rises but it did not rise from 10 ml mark
because no object or weight was in the water. The density of the water is mass divided by volume. Our
volume was 1 ml and our, mass was 9.8g, and after dividing those two numbers we got a density of
.98g/ml. But the density of pure water is 1.0, and the density we got for the density of tap water which
is not pure water, is supposed to weigh more than the pure water. In Lab 2 part 3 the wt of the 10 ml of
salt water and G.C together was 37g about 1g difference from the weight of 10 ml of H2O and the
G.C. The weight of the G.C alone is 27g. The weight of the salt water alone is 10g, the volume of it
was 10ml. The density of the salt water was 1g/ml. The discrepancy in this data about part 1 and part 3
of lab 2.The data of the 2 parts only have a difference of 1g or lower.

Argument Against Limiting Screen Time For Younger Children
eople would argue against limiting screen time for younger children. However some arguments can be
made for letting children watch television when they are very young. A poor mouse lost its youth for
the effects of overstimulation to be proven, and such a valiant sacrifice should not go in vain. Along
with the sacrifice of the mice that served under Dr. Christakis, our future citizens are having their
perceptions of reality augmented even before they go to preschool or kindergarten. Combined with the
attention deficit, these preconceived notions of different places can lead a school to have some serious
issues. The core issue with this is that it is very difficult to moderate a child s viewing of the
television, playing of video games, or accessing of the Internet, especially because younger people
have more fluid of electronic devices. The benefits of caring for a child during its infancy, instead of
sticking it in front of a screen, outweigh whatever free time would be obtained by letting the child
experience over stimulation. Many of the people who deny that the media has an effect on children s
violent behavior believe that the media is just seen as the main perpetrator because many parents fear
it more than other factors. The media s ubiquitousness gives people everywhere one thing to look at
and blame for the violence in their societies, because so much of what is in the media contains
violence. This fear is mainly drawn out of parents lack of knowledge on how to

North Ridge And The Southeast Ridge
According to mountaineer and notable author Mark Jenkins, The two standard routes, the Northeast
ridge and the Southeast ridge are not only dangerously crowded, but also disgustingly polluted, with
garbage leaking out the glaciers and pyramids of human excrement befouling the high camps
(Abrams). One of the issues with the popularity of Everest is pollution. With all the adoration
surrounding Everest and the first summit in 1953. Pollution on Everest is overlooked, and climbers are
not always helping the cause, the problems climbers run into while making the trek leads to pollution
as well. Referring to Professor Pablo Figueroa, he believes that there seems to be a growing
awareness, but a problem with the implementation of coordinated, long term sustainability policies
may collide with the private interests of expeditions, tour operators and individual climbers
(Figueroa). Therefore the Nepalese government, the climbers, and the Sherpas most come an
understanding to help with pollution. Does economic growth get in the way? What is being done to
stop pollution on Everest? Is it enough? Some believe that the mountain is being cleaned up well and
that pollution is not a problem amongst the great mountain. Jonathan Chester a professional
photographer and author of The Young Adventurer s Guide to Everest states, Mount Everest is known
to be the highest junkyard in the world even though the expeditions today are much more sanitary than
they were ten years ago. Trash is much

Analysis Of Gilman s A Mountain Path As Road
Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an American writer of diminutive stories, poems, and nonfiction. She
was a utopian feminist as well as a socialist who served as a paradigm for future generations of
feminists. An Obstacle is one of the optimum workings of her during her life span. In her poem,
Gilman explained women s struggle to accomplish egalitarianism with men in a very vivid illustration.
Gilman referred a mountain path as road which a woman has to surpass in array to reach equality, as it
takes additional endeavor to climb a mountain then walking on a plane path. It signifies that the mode
to reach the destination of impartiality is certainly not a piece of cake for women especially in this
form of civilization where women are considered inferior to men. When we (Women) are burdened
with many things to do, important business of my own, and other people s too signifies the quantity of
effort they are exerting in their day to day life. Women saunter through the hard way, bringing with
her many things, not only for herself but for others also. Her expedition was going well but not for
long. A Prejudice thwarts her endeavor. Prejudice here refers to patriarchal society (both men and
women) who believe that women are the subsequent sex. Second verse strengthens the first, that
Gilman s attempt to attain equality was not a simple thing to do with her limit time and vigor.
Prejudice made her struggle harder coz it hindered her journey. In Third and fourth stanza

speculated. Everyone ignored my qualification. It was a small wound, slightly ragged at the edges, and
could have been an exit or entrance. Furthermore, he told Posner: I did the procedure. The photos I
have seen look like the opening I remember making. In a 5 16 94 response letter to Brad Parker, Perry
wrote: Recollection immediately after an event is likely to be more accurate (although often wrong)

The Prevalence Of Mass Media Essay
Researchers believe that access to mass media (i.e. Internet, television, newspaper, magazine, and
other forms of social media) may be a correlate to low self esteem and higher rates of body
dissatisfaction (Stryer, 2009). Adolescents who have high body dissatisfaction will typically engage in
behaviors that lead to eating disorders, such as dieting supplements, excessive exercise, or dietary
restraints (Greene, 2012). Due to the prevalence of mass media advertisements and its role as a cause
and predictor for adolescent body dissatisfaction or precursor to a variety of eating disorders, 10
million Americans have been professionally diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, 5 to 10 percent of these
being men (Eguia and Bello, 2005; Forbes, et. al, 2013; Reel, 2013). Generally, models used in
modern advertisements are at least twenty three percent thinner than the average woman; whereas,
twenty five years ago, models were only required to be eight percent smaller than the average woman
(Kiesbye, 2010). According to Griffin and Berry (as cited in Curry and Ray, 2010), the phenomenon of
anorexia nervosa is considered a culturally bound syndrome , as it is seldom observed in non Western
cultures as related to anything but religious tradition.
Mass media and its portrayal of the ideal body type has caused a crisis primarily related to body
dissatisfaction among adolescents in reaction to the commercialized assurance that being thin is
synonymous with attractiveness, popularity,

What Are The Four Generic Conventions
In a day in age where we live in a vast multimedia culture, content is supplied to us through distinct
and diverse outlets including video, animation, audio, and text. Within these outlets comes more a
defined set of media. Text is anything you can read which includes books, magazines, newspapers,
and advertisements. Audio on the other hand is anything you can listen to which includes podcasts,
music, and radio. Once you get down to these specific levels, a higher classification level is required
in order to define, describe, and organize types of compositions. This requires genre which is a
subcategory of media or entertainment that is established and defined by certain heterogeneous
characteristics.

The Prudhoe Bay Oil Spill and a Commitment to Being Green

Case Summary The Angelo Persian Oil Company was formed in 1909 by a wealthy Englishman
named William Knox D Arcy. It did not operate under the British Petroleum (BP) name until 1954. In
early 1959, BP discovered hydrocarbons under the North Sea and Alaska, and found the West Sole gas
field in 1965 which was the first oil exploration success in British waters. In 1969, BP discovered
major oil deposits in Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska. The refining and marketing of the

Things were going very well for BP, until March 2006 when crews discovered a small hole in the
pipeline at the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The company is responsible for the northern Alaskan oil fields
and had no indication there was a leak until it was too late. Between 200,000 and 270,000 gallons of
crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the second worst oil
spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez tanker hitting a barrier
reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. More than 11 million gallons of crude oil was
accidentally released into the water, and the region is still impacted environmentally from the spill.
The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe environmental impacts on the region and
will definitely taint the company s image of safety and environmentally friendly operations for many
years to come. With the increase in oil exploration in the region, the quality of oil has significantly
declined. The lower quality oil flowing through the pipeline causes stress on the pipes leading to
corrosion and deterioration. Some of the pipeline is underground and, therefore, making it difficult to
detect a leak in those areas. BP has increased its budget to inspect the pipeline for corrosion, as well as
using an additive to breakdown emulsions in the oil. The pipeline was

Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military
1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate
relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The
example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at
Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers
are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles.
Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health
and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members
of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers.
As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking
about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support
from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military.
In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a
very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private
troubles is very important. 2. Sociological Concept: The book defines in group as, a category of
people who share a common identity and sense of belonging (Witt,

Orchestra and then with Carrol Dickenson s Orchestra at the Sunset Café. That same year Armstrong
recorded his first Hot Five records, which was the first time he made records under his own name.
Any of the records that were made by Louis Armstrong s Hot Five and Hot Seven were considered to
be Jazz classics. Their band continued recording until 1928, but never played live. This music set a
standard and the agenda for jazz in the many years to follow. Armstrong s trumpet introduction to
West End Blues is very famous. It has yet to be surpassed and remains as one of the greatest recorded
moments of jazz. While Louis was working at the Sunset Café, he met Joe Glaser, who became his
manager. Glaser was his manager until he died. Armstrong led his own band; they were called Louis
Armstrong and his Stompers. Louis had become a big star by 1929. He occasionally appeared with the

Women Have Better Handwriting Than Men
People have their own opinions about what the other gender is like. People also have their opinions
about what their own gender is like. Generalizations come from these opinions very easily.
Contrasting men and women has become widely spread and is used every day. A few of the
generalizations that are used every day would be, women have better handwriting than men, women
are tidier than men, women are not as handy as men.
First think back to when we were in school, anytime someone forgot to write their name on it, it would
be deciphered girl or guys by the handwriting. Women have always been deemed to have better
calligraphy. Whether it be when we were all in grade school or now it will always be generalized that
women have better handwriting then men. An example would be back in high school, my psychology
teacher, before starting her lecture she held up a piece of paper and she asked whose paper, it was
because there was no name, she then proceeded with it looks like a guy s handwriting it is a little
difficult to read though. It even transfers over to work, usually there will be women as secretaries
because they have neater handwriting and people do not have to sit there and try to decipher what was
written down. If there is a large meeting and something needs to be written down it will most likely
get asked of a woman because they have neater script. Even at home the women tend to write the

The Inherent Ethical Dilemma Of A Company
The inherent ethical dilemma that presents itself in this case is whether or not it is ethical to cut
corners to make a profit. The management is aware of the issue, yet continues to allow the defective
drives to be sold in order to attempt to appease the company s new CEO. Is it ethical for a company to
sell a defective product in order to avoid loss?
The obvious IT component that lends itself to the circumstances of this case takes the form of the
defective Hard Drives. However, there are many other possible IT components playing a role in the
background. Such components would include an inventory management system and a defect
management system, alongside App and Database servers respectively to allow these systems to
function properly. Other IT components at work may include a CRM system for ensuring customer
satisfaction, a POS system, possibly including hardware such as scanners for sales and returns.
Desktops and laptops may also be in use by employees of the company, as well as an Intranet and
Extranet to share and access information on those machines.
One critical stakeholder in the case is the CEO of PrimeDrive, Mr. Stokes. An important right for him
as the head of the company is the right to use his business to generate a profit and run the business as
he sees fit. Another stakeholder are the managers of PrimeDrive, who have the right to manage their
departments as they envisioned. The consumers are also a critical stakeholder who have the right to

Child Immunization:
Diseases Becoming More Prevalent in Children Vaccines are crucial in a child s life. Immunizations
and vaccines help prevent future diseases such as pneumonia, polio, and HPV. Polio is a disease that
can cause paralysis (Poliomyelitis). This disease is most commonly found in Nigeria, Pakistan, and
Afghanistan (Childhood). One out of every five children in Pakistan don t have their necessary
vaccines and immunizations (Childhood). In rural areas 2/3 of their children don t get their
vaccinations (Childhood). Pakistan health issues are mainly due to the slow economic growth. They
can t pay for the health advancements because they don t have the funds. After the U.S. killed Osama

thousands of children(Park). The growth of child immunization, the structure of Pakistan, and the
contrast between Pakistan and the U.S. all show what influences fluctuations in child immunizations.
Child immunizations have grown over the past few centuries. In most countries they are 100% free of
certain diseases due to new developments of vaccines. Many disease don t have a cure but can be
prevented at an early stage. At least 103 million cases of childhood diseases have been prevented by
vaccines since 1924... (Vaccine vindication). Polio was an epidemic in the twentieth century until

Lipsitzky Essay
El Lissitzky s real name was Lazar Markovich Lissitzky. He was born in Russia on November 23,
1890, in Pochinok, Russian Empire. He was a Russian artist, designer, typographer, photographer and
architect in the early 20th century. In 1905, he started to draw and paint, being influenced by the
Russian Painter, Mikhail Vrubel. Lissitzky s father did not believe that the government in Russia
would lead to a good future for him and his family so he decided that he would travel to America by
himself to find a stable job and settle down before bringing over wife and son. However, a year later
when he tried to bring them to America, Lissitzkys mother refused to leave Vitebsk. Lissitzky would
spend much of his childhood in the small town before going off to live with his grandparents.
He attended high school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suprematism is the simple geometric shapes associated with an idea, developed in the Russian abstract
art movement. Lissitzky used geometric forms to design some artwork for the Soviet Union. He
helped develop suprematism with his friend and mentor, Azimir Malevich.
Constructivism is an early 20th century movement in Russia. Movements in objects are combined into
basic forms. It has influenced many pieces of modern architecture and design. Lissitzky was working
on a very important part to spread a Constructivism program beyond Russia. He spent time in Berlin
during the early 1920s because he was responsible for moving the movement to Germany. And then
from Germany, this program spread into other places, including the Untied States.
In 1923, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and his health declined. He was not allowed to travel out
of the country; however, it did not stop him from working on his design posters, publication books,
architectural design projects, art direction, and artwork for the Soviet Union.
He spent the rest of his life creating more advertising artwork for

Low Voter Turnout Essay
As the decline in voter turnout affects Canada and most western democracies, there is an increasing
urgency to find a solution to this trend. This paper will evaluate whether civic education is indeed a
solution to the trend, in hopes of re engaging citizens. I would argue that civic education is a crucial
measure to be taken in order to inform and mobilize voters. It is said, without question, that a
politically savvy population is more inclined to engage in political participation. However, believing
that civic education alone is the silver bullet solution to declining voter turnout is overly optimistic.
Why is low voter turnout a concern? Simply put, non participatory citizens are disengaged from an
important aspect of political life. One s decision to to participate can be linked to several issues. The
concern facing the pattern of disengagement is that it lowers our collective ... Show more content on

However, the reality one faces when observing the outcome of such an initiative proves that it is not
so cut and dry. Civic education in Canada has been met with a number of challenges. One primary
issue is the lack of parity. As stated in Canada s Constitution Act of 1867, there is no federal
department of education and no integrated national system of education. Therefore, in each province,
the legislature makes education laws exclusively. They are therefore responsible for the organization,
delivery and assessment of education at the elementary, secondary and even postsecondary level.
Moreover, it is difficult to immediately assess the impact of civic education on voter turnout. This is
mainly because the majority of students who take civic education are not yet of voting age. Therefore,
the benefits of civic education can only be evaluated objectively at a later

Ram Truck Persuasive Speech
Ram trucks, made for the hard working man by the hard working man. The commercial is for a
powerful and dependable truck that will meet the needs of the hardest working man.
Therefore, the Ram truck is meant to be desirable by farmers to meet the demands of a farmer. The
commercial shows a slide show of farms, farmers, and Ram trucks; while being narrated by Paul
Harvey a famous broadcaster who describes how a farmer is the hardest working man. Ram trucks,
described as the most dependable and toughest truck around, the product being advertised in the
commercial, the work horse for farmers, is meant to be the truck farmers need to get the job done
right. Presumably, Ram s God made a farmer commercial persuades farmers to buy their
trucks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the point of view of the audience is meant to change in order to believe that Ram trucks are
the toughest and most dependable trucks on the road. By using these ideas, the audience is meant to be
convinced to buy a Ram truck for the farmer in them. By using different persuasive techniques, the
commercial attempts to persuade farmers that Ram trucks are the best trucks.
By using persuasive techniques, the commercial convinces farmers to buy a Ram truck because of the
appeals in the commercial makes. As a result, the use of repetition when the speaker repeatedly says;
God made a farmer , drives home the point that farmers were made for hard work and so were Ram
trucks. Along with repetition, the commercial also uses ethos in order to give the product credibility.
Using farmers in the commercial demonstrates that if farmers trust
Ram, then other people can trust Ram to be dependable too. As well as using farmers for credibility,
the commercial also uses parallelism to help the idea of dependability stick in the minds of farmers.
By using the same structure, the commercial persuades farmers to feel important and believe they are
needed. Ultimately, by using these techniques together, the commercial helps

An Interdisciplinary Approach To Christian Ethics
When encountering a difficult situation, one often engages in the process of moral reflection without
even taking conscious note of it. Aana Vigen describes the nature of this process in her work
Conclusion from the book God, Science, Sex, Gender: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Christian
Ethics. The first step in contemplating a moral quandary is to stop and think about what you know, and
then question that information (Vigen 242). It is important to keep an open mind during this part of the
process, so as to consider other interpretations of the situation that had not been thought of before.
Once you have begun to question information that you automatically took as facts, you can then start
to gather more information about the ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethical behavior is defined as whatever behavior a virtuous person would partake in, which are then
the behaviors one attempts to cultivate. While virtue ethics has its strength in focusing on individual
characteristics, this can also lead to a couple limitations. First of all, because it is so individualized,
this framework does not lend well in taking the social constructs of society into consideration. Another
problem with focusing so much on individual virtues is the variances in which cultures view which
concepts as virtues. What may be considered a good habit in one culture may be seen as taboo in

Declaration Of Happiness Research Paper
Happiness is a funny thing, because, unlike other emotions it relies so strongly on its polar opposite.
What is happiness without unhappiness? Whose happiness matters most?
We as humans like to live our lives in pursuit of hedonism. And like to judge situations based on the
utility it produces for ourselves, and if you re particularly altruistic, the utility of your loved ones. We
put such a high priority on being happy, that everything in our lives revolves around it. And we don t
often realize that our own happiness leads to others unhappiness. For example, Trump is happy,
because he attained a powerful position that he didn t deserve. Yet, the very thing that makes him
happy is causing immigrants stress, and fear, and unhappiness. Whose ... Show more content on

We as humans tend to like instant gratification, but long term happiness often results because we do
things that make us less happy then, but will lead to more opportunity in the future. Hundreds of
thousands of people go to college for example. I for one know I dislike homework, and busy work,
which college is full of. Doing work lessens my happiness now, but later on in life completing college
will set me up for more opportunities. Because I completed college, I will have access to better jobs,
jobs that provide more security, security that allows me to live out my life with less stress and worry,
less stress that allows me to generally be much happier than I would have been if I had graduated from
high school and gone straight into a minimum wage job. Is the greater happiness in the future worth
the reduced happiness now? Am I happier now doing the work, knowing I will accomplish something
with my life, than I would be not doing the work at

The Tyrannical Stamp Act Of 1765
All of the American colonists considered themselves British to begin with. They lived by British
civility, relied on British support, and thought with a British mindset, in one way or another. Even
those that opposed the conservative, crown loving Tories, pulled their values and ideals from British
thought. These were the Whigs, who felt opposed to the King, power, tyranny, and slavery, all in the
name of liberty, virtue and direct representation.
For example, the tyrannical Stamp Act of 1765 elicited a truly Whig response. It is from this that we
have the saying, no taxation without representation. It did not make sense for this arbitrary power over
in England to make decisions for a land and people that they have no direct experience

The Characteristics Of Basketball Athletes In The NBA
All great basketball players have skills, and a reason that makes them great. When people think of
professional basketball players, the first word that usually comes to mind is tall. However, that is not
always the case. There are many players that are under 6 3 and while that may sound tall to us, it is
short in the world of basketball. Surprisingly, some of the shorter players are known to be better on the
court. And they re not just known for their height... many are known for the name brands they
represent. Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, and Jordan are just a few of the brands that are promoted by
these players. All great basketball players, NBA or not, are tall. Both current and past players all have
a common trait of being tall. Lebron James 6 8 , Kevin Durant 6 10 , Jimmy Butler 6 6 . All of these
players have height, and the skills that come with it. Being tall in the NBA doesn t guarantee you are
the best players, but it does give you a significant advantage. Lebron and Kevin both have
championship rings and a numerous amount of MVP s (Most Valuable Player). These awards show
what having height and the skills that come with it This can give a huge disadvantage to the rest of the
smaller guards and forwards in the NBA. Both Kevin and Lebron developed the skills of being big
men, and once it was perfected, they developed the insane art or shooting. These two players can shoot
from anywhere, that s what makes them so dominant and un guardable. Their size only adds to the fact
that smaller players can t contest them or use their bodies against them. All great players like these
have height and the skills that come with it. All great basketball players can be short . Guards, these
are the faster, quicker, and I think more lethal players in basketball. All guards have a similar trait of
being short or shorter than most players. These short guards like Steph Curry 6 3, Damian Lillard 6 3,
and Isiah Thomas 5 9, obviously don t have the height to compete, but they do have an insane mind
set and have all of the skills to be better than anyone else. These skills are passing, shooting, and
dribbling. Guards are the most lethal players in all of the basketball leagues in my opinion. Stats

The Historical Basis Of Heart Of Darkness
The historical basis of Heart of Darkness is the overtaking of the Congo by King Leopold II of
Belgium. Leopold subjugated the indigenous people of the Congo in order to use them as slaves in his
quest for rubber and ivory, much like that of the Company who said they were helping the natives
while searching for ivory and Kurtz who took advantage of the peoples beliefs to have them procure
the ivory for him.
In an attempt to attain colonies for Belgium, Leopold acquired a colony of his own as a private citizen.
Leopold was able to establish a private holding company known as the Association Internationale
Africaine . This company was publically intended to be an international scientific and philanthropic
association; however under the guise of this company Leopold hired a Henry Morton Stanley to
acquire a colony in the Congo. Stanley was able to gain the land by deceiving the chiefs into signing
land deal when they thought they were signing friendship treaties. This colony would be known as the
Congo Free State after the Berlin Conference in 1884 1885 when the representatives of 14 European
countries as well as the United States recognized Leopold s claim to most of the land that he had
acquired. When everything was said and done the Congo Free State was 905,000 square miles, 76
times larger than Belgium. Leopold had total control over an area 76 times larger than the country he
ruled, giving him the ability and the power to do whatever he wished. Though Leopold privately

  • 2. Should Junk Food Be Banned In Schools Junk Food is not Always Junky Schools tend to have vending machines or a place that you can buy a snack, sweet treat, or a delicious drink. Many people are concerned that the food that is being sold at schools is not a good thing for the school or the students. However, they obviously do not see the positive impacts the sale of junk food has on the school. Junk food should not be banned in schools because schools can get more funding, students will still get access to junk food, and the government should not control the diet of its citizens. Schools that sell snacks from vending machines tend to make a lot of money from the vending. Students buying from vending machines gave nearly ⅓ of high schools and middles schools a profit of $1,000 $9,999 (Datar and Nicosa 7). Schools that focus on the ban of junk food lack the funding for gym classes and after school sports (Carson Dewitt and Jacobs 15). Schools when they have a healthier food options, students tend to turn down the option. This is seen in article Some School Districts Quit Healthier Lunch Program, the author, Carolyn Thompson states After just one year, some schools around the country are dropping out of the healthier new federal lunch program, complaining that so many students turned up their noses at meals packed with whole grains, fruits and vegetables that the cafeterias were losing money. (1). This shows that the sell of food from vending machines at schools help give the school more funding and it allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Govinda s Journey Of Siddhartha People never stop learning. Many people believe that once they leave school they are done learning; that is far from the truth. Siddhartha is a prime example. Around 625 B.C., a young man named Siddhartha set off on a journey to find himself. His journey led him through the spiritual world and then the material world, and eventually both; there he finds the path needed to reach enlightenment. Throughout his journey Siddhartha had three main teachers; Govinda, who taught him the balance between people and the self, Kamala, who taught him the art of love, and Vasudeva, who taught him the importance of listening, together the three of them helped Siddhartha reach enlightenment. A friend from childhood, Govinda, is Siddhartha s first teacher on the road to enlightenment. While still a Samana, Govinda and Siddhartha are begging for food in the village when Siddhartha says, Well, Govinda, are we on the right road? Are we gaining knowledge? Are we approaching Salvation? Or are we perhaps going in circles we who thought to escape from the cycle. Govinda said: We have learned much, Siddhartha. There still remains much to learn. We are not going in circles, we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps (Hesse 17 18). He is teaching Siddhartha that although it doesn t feel like anything is changing or anything is different, he is getting somewhere but it is a slow and tedious process. One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Madness And Control Analysis Alexander Castaldo Beat Generation 12/15/17 Madness and Control in Ken Kesey s One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest Ken Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest is a story revolving around Chief Bromden, a schizophrenic patient in a ward who pretends to be deaf and stupid. The ward is controlled by a nurse named Nurse Ratched. Nurse Ratched has a strict system of control over the ward and her patients, choosing staff members whom follow her loyally. In the ward we have two types of patients; the Acutes and the Chronics, the Acutes are those whom can still be treated and can become model citizens while the Chronics are those who the staff believe are long past saving. Chief, the narrator is a Chronic and looks at the happenings within the ward from a passive point of view. One day, Randle McMurphy a newly admitted patient, tears up the place by introducing gambling and other unsightly games into the ward, he does this to undermine and usurp the staff s control and order, but in particular Nurse Ratched s authority. This threatens her and she has a momentary break down. One can argue that threatened by the patient s and despite her cover of control Nurse Ratched actually feels out of control inside, and with the possibility she is not so well herself. This is supported when in the book Nurse Ratched discusses with another nurse what type of person McMurphy is, she says he s; controlling and manipulative of others to his own ends, using others as stepping stones to ... • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spectrum Sensing Abstract The constrained available spectrum and the incompetence in the spectrum utilization and administration require another correspondence innovation and communication technology.. Spectrum sensing is used to detect the (unlicensed) the unused (licensed) frequency bands. Spectrum sensing includes locating the usage of spectrum and their features across different dimensions such as code frequency ,time and space. The key features of CR system is that it senses the electromagnetic environment to use their operation and dynamically vary its radio operating parameters. With the likely transition of radio communications from static to dynamic spectrum access in the near future, spectrum sensing has become an interesting area of research. Even though many signal detection methods have a long history, economical implementations of consumer devices employing spectrum sensing are still missing. In this research an overview of current state of the art spectrum sensing methods, limited to the binary decision of channel occupancy is presented. Existing methods are categorized into energy detector, cyclostationary and matched filter methods. • 6. 1970 Environmental Issues The Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1970 to help provide solutions to the environmental issues and problems that need to be addressed. The name of the agency tells us that they are here to protect the environment and hold those who would harm our earth responsible for their actions. Unfortunately, the very agency that has been tasked with our protection has now become the perpetrator of an environmental disaster in Colorado. Last week, the EPA accidently dumped over three million gallons of toxic waste into Animus River (Kinkaid, 2015). It would appear that the good guys in white hats have turned their hats in for a new color that bad guys are associated with in the movies (black hats). As of August 10th, the mine was still discharging 500 gallons a minute into the Animus River. The EPA administrator Shaun McGrath has stated that the EPA has contained the rest of the spill in two ponds near the spill site and they are treating it (Garrison, 2015). Another group of people affected by the spill is the Navajo Nation, and the Navajo Nation commission has declared a state of emergency. The Nation is 27,000 square miles and has been considered to be the size of some of the smaller states like West Virginia. Navajo Nation president Russel Begaye has asked an attorney to look into filing a lawsuit against the EPA (Garrison, 2015). Russel has also stated his dissatisfaction with the EPA s handling of this disaster, along with not being clear about exactly what toxins have been released into the river. The people of the Nation are concerned about the water quality and how it will affect drinking water, cattle, and crops. The EPA seems to have made quite a few mistakes in dealing with this spill; New Mexico s Governor Martinez says that she did not even find out about the spill from the EPA. The milk beverage is Australia s largest selling flavored milk and each year Australians consume in excess of 27 million litres of the beverage each year. There are a few ideas and issues that are raised in the text that I can point out. I think that the idea of having an ad about the worlds history and issues while showing normal every day Australians playing out the roles and then able to hide the real message is a sensational advertisement. • 9. What Is Okonkwo s Role In Igbo Society Since the civilization of the African continent the natives were seen as uncivilized and wild. Achebe throughout Things Fall Apart works to counter these very stereotypes. Set in an Ibo village in Nigeria during the start of European civilization, the book focuses on the main character Okonkwo and his prideful life to give insight on the true nature of Ibo culture. Achebe uses the abstract concept of the patriarchal society and importance of conversation to humanize the Ibo people. Seen in the interaction between Okonkwo and his wives, this matter illustrates the influential role of the patriarch in Ibo society. Speaking of his role in society Okonkwo gives the advice that, if [a man] was unable to rule his women...he was not really a man (Achebe 53). Based off of Okonkwo s advice we know the men in Ibo society hold the power over their families and if they can not control their family that they are not really a man. Okonkwo demonstrates the power he holds over his wife and children many times, often going too far. Although many theorists criticize that the extracurricular activities takes valuable time from the family, relaxation and leisure time, especially sport participation requires more and more time due to its increase in competiveness and amount of practice (Melman et al., 2008; Shaw et al., 1996 in Fredericks, 2012). In Fredericks study (2012), the unique time requirement in sports participation is explained as an enforcer to develop even stronger relationships, better refinement of the skills and most importantly more conscientiousness. The media concentrates on the highly involved students, which make approximately 3 6% of the entire high school student body, that clock in over 20 h per week, whereas the average of students participates 7 8 h per week in afterschool program, which means they stay for less then 1.5 h more after school (Fredericks, 2012). Paradoxically, according to Mahoney et al. (2006 in Fredericks, 2012) actually the most involved students, at least 20 h/per week, showed better capability in adjusting to the academically and psychological demands. These results are only applicable to a very few amount of students and not to the majority of the American population. Many people think that being a successful football player is fairly easy. They claim being big, strong, and fast is really the only tools you need to be great at the sport. However, the qualities of an outstanding football player go far beyond just their physical capabilities. The physical aspect of football of course helps, but it is all the great characteristics put together that will make a player truly outstanding. The best sign of an outstanding football player is if they have these three qualities: a strong work ethic, mental toughness, and great leadership. Great football players aren t just strong, but they have a really amazing work ethic. If a player has a strong work ethic, he often attempts to do extra. These players will stay an hour after practice is over making sure they perfect their craft. They strive to be perfect in everything they do, and that is one of the reasons they make such outstanding football players. The players that show this trait off are the ones who take no days off. • 13. The Schematics of a Film Disk The characteristics of the disc surface affect the flow patterns generated on the film as well as the residence time of the reactants film. The effect of disc texture on particle characteristics is depicted in Figure 7 and Figure 8. It can be seen that using the grooved disc surface results in smaller particle size and narrower particle size distribution as compared to smooth disc surface. A narrow particle size distribution for the production of silver nanoparticles was achieved by Iyer et al.[43] using the grooved disc. The authors postulated that that the corrugated nature of the grooved disc promoted shear induced micromixing of the thin film on the disc at higher rotational speed. The efficient micromixing ensured that all the particles were exposed to the similar conditions to maintain a narrow size distribution [43]. Similar enhancement effects of grooved surfaces have been reported for styrene polymerisation in the SDR [9]. It has also been suggested in the literature that surface textures have the potential to suppress liquid channelling or rivulet flow compared to a smooth surface under identical conditions of liquid flowrate and liquid properties so that a higher wetted area is achieved [44]. Rivulet flow as opposed to film flow would result in larger average film thicknesses which may lead to detrimental performance, especially under strictly laminar flow conditions (i.e. where any surface wave induced turbulence is absent). Thus, the intensifying effects of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An example of something that would show a high social rank would be one s jewelry. Back in the Victorian age the most precious thing an individual could have was jewelry. John Plotz says, On the one hand, through jewelry one establishes a sense of personal worth and identity. On the other hand, jewelry s very elegance lies in its impersonality (Plotz 26). Those who would oppose the motion of placing limits on the amount that executives should earn argue that CEOs pay is commensurate with their performance and the high risk nature of their job. Similarly, those in favour of the motion would argue that such high salaries only serve to encourage CEOs to engage in risky behaviour while imposing significant social and economic costs on everybody else. This essay will argue that, given the significant economic and social costs of skyrocketing executive pay, that it is imperative that government place limits on the salaries of CEOS of publicly traded companies. In doing so, this essay will trace the rise of executive pay in the American economy, critically examine the issue of whether or not CEOs earn their paycheques and explore the high social and economic costs imposed on others when the wage between is so high. (Just quickly, I want to say that this film does deal with sensitive material relating to sexual harassment and sexual assault, and I don t want this film to have a negative impact on anyone reading this review.) Consommé begins with a young woman leaving an apartment building late at night after a fight with someone. She begins walking briskly through the streets of Brooklyn. The viewer then sees this same woman slowly waking up in a brightly lit bedroom, which is what reveals that this short film will be told through a series of flashbacks. Either she doesn t sense his presence or she s trying to ignore it because she s sure she s being paranoid. However, when the man grabs her, her fear and the audience s fear is realized. He drags her into an alley and begins attacking her. In contrast to the dark, foreboding, dangerous night flashbacks, the current shots of the woman waking up are all well lit, bright with sunshine, and full of light colors. They are quiet and peaceful. However, the woman s face and body are beaten up pretty badly. She has cuts and bruises on her legs and face, reminding the viewer of the brutal attack she endured the night before. At this point in the film, the viewer still doesn t know exactly how the attack will end will the man just beat her up? Will he rape her? Will she have to go to the hospital? The final flashback moment I will discuss, so as not to give away the ending, is the moment this woman realizes she is going to be sexually assaulted. Prior to this, the man had been just beating her up in the alley. He was kicking her and throwing her around. However, he pins her up against a vehicle in the alley and the woman hears him begin to undo his belt buckle. When she realizes what is about to happen, she goes into pure survival and fight mode. • 20. The Importance Of Love In Romeo And Juliet Now many would call Romeo and Juliet the play that teaches us that love, at first sight, is real. While reading this play the only thing the audience will be able to understand from this story is that love holds no bounds, that some love is forever. In class, we came to the conclusion that this play is about immature, naive, stubborn kids who do not understand the concept of what real love is. Their demised stemmed from a fast paced relationship which bloomed from rejection. Stupidity, naivety, stubbornness, and immaturity are all traits that may be used to describe Romeo Montague. Now, these traits shaped Romeo to be the most irresponsible guy ever which lead him and his supposed love to their demise. Now it is not to be said that Juliet was not at fault, on the contrary, she is also to blame for their demise because the traits Romeo has she seems to have too. Most of these ideas seem pretty petty for older people, which is why it weighs so heavy on them, they are children, if they would have waited to even commence their relationship they would have outgrown most of these traits and their demise may have been avoided altogether. At the beginning of the play, we see Romeo carry the same feelings that he expresses for Juliet for someone else. Before there was Juliet in Romeo s life there was Rosaline, another Capulet. If you see how Romeo expresses his feelings for Rosaline, you can see that it is the same way he later expresses them for Juliet. An example of this would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Argument Against Limiting Screen Time For Younger Children eople would argue against limiting screen time for younger children. However some arguments can be made for letting children watch television when they are very young. A poor mouse lost its youth for the effects of overstimulation to be proven, and such a valiant sacrifice should not go in vain. Along with the sacrifice of the mice that served under Dr. Christakis, our future citizens are having their perceptions of reality augmented even before they go to preschool or kindergarten. Combined with the attention deficit, these preconceived notions of different places can lead a school to have some serious issues. The core issue with this is that it is very difficult to moderate a child s viewing of the television, playing of video games, or accessing of the Internet, especially because younger people have more fluid of electronic devices. The benefits of caring for a child during its infancy, instead of sticking it in front of a screen, outweigh whatever free time would be obtained by letting the child experience over stimulation. Many of the people who deny that the media has an effect on children s violent behavior believe that the media is just seen as the main perpetrator because many parents fear it more than other factors. One of the issues with the popularity of Everest is pollution. With all the adoration surrounding Everest and the first summit in 1953. Pollution on Everest is overlooked, and climbers are not always helping the cause, the problems climbers run into while making the trek leads to pollution as well. Referring to Professor Pablo Figueroa, he believes that there seems to be a growing awareness, but a problem with the implementation of coordinated, long term sustainability policies may collide with the private interests of expeditions, tour operators and individual climbers (Figueroa). Therefore the Nepalese government, the climbers, and the Sherpas most come an understanding to help with pollution. Does economic growth get in the way? What is being done to stop pollution on Everest? Is it enough? Some believe that the mountain is being cleaned up well and that pollution is not a problem amongst the great mountain. Gilman referred a mountain path as road which a woman has to surpass in array to reach equality, as it takes additional endeavor to climb a mountain then walking on a plane path. • 29. The Prevalence Of Mass Media Essay Researchers believe that access to mass media (i.e. Internet, television, newspaper, magazine, and other forms of social media) may be a correlate to low self esteem and higher rates of body dissatisfaction (Stryer, 2009). Adolescents who have high body dissatisfaction will typically engage in behaviors that lead to eating disorders, such as dieting supplements, excessive exercise, or dietary restraints (Greene, 2012). Due to the prevalence of mass media advertisements and its role as a cause and predictor for adolescent body dissatisfaction or precursor to a variety of eating disorders, 10 million Americans have been professionally diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, 5 to 10 percent of these being men (Eguia and Bello, 2005; Forbes, et. al, 2013; Reel, 2013). Generally, models used in modern advertisements are at least twenty three percent thinner than the average woman; whereas, twenty five years ago, models were only required to be eight percent smaller than the average woman (Kiesbye, 2010). According to Griffin and Berry (as cited in Curry and Ray, 2010), the phenomenon of anorexia nervosa is considered a culturally bound syndrome , as it is seldom observed in non Western cultures as related to anything but religious tradition. The company is responsible for the northern Alaskan oil fields and had no indication there was a leak until it was too late. Between 200,000 and 270,000 gallons of crude oil leaked out of the hole in the pipeline over a five day period, and became the second worst oil spill in the United States. The worst oil spill was a result of the Exxon Valdez tanker hitting a barrier reef in Alaska s Prince William Sound in 1989. The leaking pipeline disaster will have very similar severe environmental impacts on the region and will definitely taint the company s image of safety and environmentally friendly operations for many years to come. • 32. Sociological Analysis Of Private Troubles In The Military 1. Sociological Concept: The book defines private troubles as, problems we face in our immediate relationships with particular individuals in our personal lives (Witt, 2016, p. 3). Example: The example I found for private troubles are flyers posted on every bulletin board in every work center at Eielson Air Force Base. The flyers are made by the base chaplain and mental health clinic. The flyers are there to provide the phone numbers of people to contact who can help with private troubles. Sociological Analysis: The reason I picked these flyers to use for private troubles is that mental health and resiliency are stressed so much not only in the Air Force but in the military as a whole. Members of the military face private troubles on a daily basis, mainly with their family life or their coworkers. As a member of the military, we cannot do our job to the best of our ability if we are always thinking about the private troubles of a marriage failing or not getting along with co works. So, to have support from the office of the chaplain and the mental health clinic is crucial to the well being of the military. In some cases, it is very obvious that a person is going through private troubles and others can do a very good job of hiding it. To have resources so readily available and willing to help with our private troubles is very important. 2. Most people look for that sense and feeling of correctness in the heart, but for myself, the combination of intellect and feeling is what truly testifies that the Book of Mormon is a divinely inspired book. • 38. Women Have Better Handwriting Than Men People have their own opinions about what the other gender is like. People also have their opinions about what their own gender is like. Generalizations come from these opinions very easily. Contrasting men and women has become widely spread and is used every day. A few of the generalizations that are used every day would be, women have better handwriting than men, women are tidier than men, women are not as handy as men. First think back to when we were in school, anytime someone forgot to write their name on it, it would be deciphered girl or guys by the handwriting. Women have always been deemed to have better calligraphy. Whether it be when we were all in grade school or now it will always be generalized that women have better handwriting then men. An example would be back in high school, my psychology teacher, before starting her lecture she held up a piece of paper and she asked whose paper, it was because there was no name, she then proceeded with it looks like a guy s handwriting it is a little difficult to read though. It even transfers over to work, usually there will be women as secretaries because they have neater handwriting and people do not have to sit there and try to decipher what was written down. If there is a large meeting and something needs to be written down it will most likely get asked of a woman because they have neater script. Even at home the women tend to write the grocery lists, or the letters and notes that people will be reading. It was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Inherent Ethical Dilemma Of A Company The inherent ethical dilemma that presents itself in this case is whether or not it is ethical to cut corners to make a profit. The management is aware of the issue, yet continues to allow the defective drives to be sold in order to attempt to appease the company s new CEO. Is it ethical for a company to sell a defective product in order to avoid loss? The obvious IT component that lends itself to the circumstances of this case takes the form of the defective Hard Drives. However, there are many other possible IT components playing a role in the background. Such components would include an inventory management system and a defect management system, alongside App and Database servers respectively to allow these systems to function properly. Other IT components at work may include a CRM system for ensuring customer satisfaction, a POS system, possibly including hardware such as scanners for sales and returns. Desktops and laptops may also be in use by employees of the company, as well as an Intranet and Extranet to share and access information on those machines. One critical stakeholder in the case is the CEO of PrimeDrive, Mr. Stokes. An important right for him as the head of the company is the right to use his business to generate a profit and run the business as he sees fit. Another stakeholder are the managers of PrimeDrive, who have the right to manage their departments as they envisioned. The consumers are also a critical stakeholder who have the right to receive ... • 40. Outline Of A Child Immunization Destiny Caldwell Mr. Nordlund Honors English I May 21, 2015 Child Immunization: Diseases Becoming More Prevalent in Children Vaccines are crucial in a child s life. Immunizations and vaccines help prevent future diseases such as pneumonia, polio, and HPV. Polio is a disease that can cause paralysis (Poliomyelitis). This disease is most commonly found in Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (Childhood). One out of every five children in Pakistan don t have their necessary vaccines and immunizations (Childhood). In rural areas 2/3 of their children don t get their vaccinations (Childhood). Pakistan health issues are mainly due to the slow economic growth. They can t pay for the health advancements because they don t have the funds. After the U.S. killed Osama bin Laden who was found in Pakistan, the Taliban banned the polio vaccine which will affect thousands of children(Park). The growth of child immunization, the structure of Pakistan, and the contrast between Pakistan and the U.S. all show what influences fluctuations in child immunizations. Child immunizations have grown over the past few centuries. In most countries they are 100% free of certain diseases due to new developments of vaccines. Many disease don t have a cure but can be prevented at an early stage. At least 103 million cases of childhood diseases have been prevented by vaccines since 1924... (Vaccine vindication). • 42. Low Voter Turnout Essay As the decline in voter turnout affects Canada and most western democracies, there is an increasing urgency to find a solution to this trend. This paper will evaluate whether civic education is indeed a solution to the trend, in hopes of re engaging citizens. I would argue that civic education is a crucial measure to be taken in order to inform and mobilize voters. It is said, without question, that a politically savvy population is more inclined to engage in political participation. However, believing that civic education alone is the silver bullet solution to declining voter turnout is overly optimistic. Why is low voter turnout a concern? Simply put, non participatory citizens are disengaged from an important aspect of political life. One s decision to to participate can be linked to several issues. The concern facing the pattern of disengagement is that it lowers our collective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the reality one faces when observing the outcome of such an initiative proves that it is not so cut and dry. Civic education in Canada has been met with a number of challenges. One primary issue is the lack of parity. As stated in Canada s Constitution Act of 1867, there is no federal department of education and no integrated national system of education. Therefore, in each province, the legislature makes education laws exclusively. They are therefore responsible for the organization, delivery and assessment of education at the elementary, secondary and even postsecondary level. Moreover, it is difficult to immediately assess the impact of civic education on voter turnout. This is mainly because the majority of students who take civic education are not yet of voting age. Therefore, the benefits of civic education can only be evaluated objectively at a later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aana Vigen describes the nature of this process in her work Conclusion from the book God, Science, Sex, Gender: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Christian Ethics. The first step in contemplating a moral quandary is to stop and think about what you know, and then question that information (Vigen 242). It is important to keep an open mind during this part of the process, so as to consider other interpretations of the situation that had not been thought of before. Another problem with focusing so much on individual virtues is the variances in which cultures view which concepts as virtues. Whose happiness matters most? We as humans like to live our lives in pursuit of hedonism. And like to judge situations based on the utility it produces for ourselves, and if you re particularly altruistic, the utility of your loved ones. We put such a high priority on being happy, that everything in our lives revolves around it. And we don t often realize that our own happiness leads to others unhappiness. Even those that opposed the conservative, crown loving Tories, pulled their values and ideals from British thought. These were the Whigs, who felt opposed to the King, power, tyranny, and slavery, all in the name of liberty, virtue and direct representation. • 49. The Characteristics Of Basketball Athletes In The NBA All great basketball players have skills, and a reason that makes them great. When people think of professional basketball players, the first word that usually comes to mind is tall. However, that is not always the case. There are many players that are under 6 3 and while that may sound tall to us, it is short in the world of basketball. Surprisingly, some of the shorter players are known to be better on the court. And they re not just known for their height... many are known for the name brands they represent. Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, and Jordan are just a few of the brands that are promoted by these players. All great basketball players, NBA or not, are tall. Both current and past players all have a common trait of being tall. Lebron James 6 8 , Kevin Durant 6 10 , Jimmy Butler 6 6 . All of these players have height, and the skills that come with it. Being tall in the NBA doesn t guarantee you are the best players, but it does give you a significant advantage. Lebron and Kevin both have championship rings and a numerous amount of MVP s (Most Valuable Player). These awards show what having height and the skills that come with it This can give a huge disadvantage to the rest of the smaller guards and forwards in the NBA. Both Kevin and Lebron developed the skills of being big men, and once it was perfected, they developed the insane art or shooting. These two players can shoot from anywhere, that s what makes them so dominant and un guardable. Their size only adds to the fact that smaller players can t contest them or use their bodies against them. All great players like these have height and the skills that come with it. All great basketball players can be short . Guards, these are the faster, quicker, and I think more lethal players in basketball. All guards have a similar trait of being short or shorter than most players. These short guards like Steph Curry 6 3, Damian Lillard 6 3, and Isiah Thomas 5 9, obviously don t have the height to compete, but they do have an insane mind set and have all of the skills to be better than anyone else. These skills are passing, shooting, and dribbling. Guards are the most lethal players in all of the basketball leagues in my opinion. Stats ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Historical Basis Of Heart Of Darkness The historical basis of Heart of Darkness is the overtaking of the Congo by King Leopold II of Belgium. Leopold subjugated the indigenous people of the Congo in order to use them as slaves in his quest for rubber and ivory, much like that of the Company who said they were helping the natives while searching for ivory and Kurtz who took advantage of the peoples beliefs to have them procure the ivory for him. In an attempt to attain colonies for Belgium, Leopold acquired a colony of his own as a private citizen. Leopold was able to establish a private holding company known as the Association Internationale Africaine . This company was publically intended to be an international scientific and philanthropic association; however under the guise of this company Leopold hired a Henry Morton Stanley to acquire a colony in the Congo. Stanley was able to gain the land by deceiving the chiefs into signing land deal when they thought they were signing friendship treaties. This colony would be known as the Congo Free State after the Berlin Conference in 1884 1885 when the representatives of 14 European countries as well as the United States recognized Leopold s claim to most of the land that he had acquired. When everything was said and done the Congo Free State was 905,000 square miles, 76 times larger than Belgium.
