Examples Of Project Censorship
In this media, censorship and propaganda essay I will define and explain what project censored is and
what they mean by modern media censorship, providing examples. I will cover whether there are
actually censorship issues or if the reporting is done containing deliberate imperfections to cloud the
real stories that are being withheld from the American public; followed by examples of Junk Food
News or News Abuse and my thoughts on those examples. Lastly, I will discuss free press and its
effect on current and past event Project Censored is an organization that educates students and the
public about the importance of a truly free press for democratic self government. We expose and
oppose news censorship and we promote independent investigative journalism, media literacy, and
critical thinking. Project Censored highlights the important links among a free press, media literacy
and democratic self government. 1 Project Censored was created during the time of the Nixon
Watergate incident. Dr. Carl Jensen, the founder of project censored, was shocked to see that Richard
Nixon was elected to another term as President of the United States after all that happened with
Watergate.
Modern media censorship is a restrictive way of molding and shaping the way that the media presents
news to the public. Project Censored defines Modern Censorship as the subtle yet constant and
sophisticated manipulation of reality in our mass media outlets. 2 The information that gets released to

Objects, such as the scaffold, were ritualistic symbols for such concepts as sin and penitence. A person
might wonder why Hawthorne uses his characters as symbols, and van Kirk would answer them, using
his characters as symbols, Hawthorne describes the grim underside of Page 2 Puritanism that lurks
beneath the public piety (91). Chillingworth is symbolized as the devil. From the very beginning of
the novel, it can be learned that Chillingworth seeks reveng we on whoever committed adultery with
his wife. Hawthorne proves this when Chillingworth says, It irks me nevertheless, that the partner of
her inequity should not, at least, stand on the scaffold by her side. But he will be known! he will be
known! he will be known! (43). Van Kirk realizes that when Chillingworth arrives in the colony and
learns of Hester s situation, he leaves her alone nearly seven years as he singlemindedly pursues
Dimmsdale. She also notices that once Chillingworth decides to pursue Hester s lover and enact
revenge, he pusues this pupose with the techniques and motives of a scientist. Moving in with

Utilitarianism Vs. Utilitarianism Theory
In the history of philosophy Utilitarianism has been viewed as one of the best of the moral theories. It
has become one the most powerful, influential, and most persuasive approach to normative ethics. The
utilitarianism theory also has had a major impacts on approaches to economic, political, and social
policy. The utilitarianism theory had originally had been created by Jeremy Bentham. His version of
was that aggregate pleasure after deducting suffering of all involved in any action. However, this was
later revised by John Stuart Mill He has revised the concept of utility and has brought forth the
Greatest Happiness Principle .
First off, utilitarianism is the philosophical view about how we should evaluate a things that are
involve choices that people have to make. These things that are evaluated are actions, laws, policies,
character traits, and moral codes. In general, whatever is being evaluated, we are the ones that have to
choose the one that will produce the best overall results. Utilitarianism is also a form of
consequentialism this is because utilitarianism is based on the consequences or results of actions that
are the only standard of right and wrong. Utilitarian s say that we should choose the option that has
maximizes utility, i.e. that action or policy that produces the largest amount of good. Although it may
be similar to Utilitarianism is distinctly different from other forms of consequentialism such as egoism
as it considers all interests equally. On

Hong Kong Essay
Hong Kong
The region of Hong Kong, which had long been a haven for coastal pirates was occupied by the
British during the Opium War (1839 42). The colony prospered as an east west trading center, the
commercial gateway to, and distribution center for, South China. It was efficiently governed, and its
banking, insurance, and shipping services quickly became known as the most reliable in Southeast
Asia. In 1921 the British agreed to limit the fortifications of the colony, and this contributed to its easy
conquest by the Japanese. It was reoccupied by the British on Sept. 16, 1945.

The crackdown in 1989 at Tiananmen Square in Beijing inspired fears that China would not respect
Hong Kong s autonomy, and in the next few years many business people left, affecting Hong Kong s
economy. In 1991, Hong Kong s first direct legislative elections were won almost entirely by liberal,
pro democracy candidates, and no pro China candidates were elected.
In 1992, Britain introduced a number of democratic measures, which were denounced by China. Talks
between the two countries proved pointless, and in 1994 Hong Kong s legislature approved further
democratic reforms in the colony still going against Chinese ideology. In the 1995 elections
prodemocracy candidates received about 60% of the popular vote. Upon Hong s return to China,
Beijing abolished the legislature set up by the British and established a provisional legislature; a chief
executive, Tung Chee hwa, was also appointed. Elections were held in 1998, with prodemocracy
parties taking 16 of the 20 directly elected seats. Hong Kong was affected by the Asian financial crisis
of 1997 98, but its economy began to rebound in 1999. In the Sept. 2000 legislative council elections,
prodemocracy parties won 15 of the 24 directly elected seats.

Knowledge is the skill acquired by a person to have facts or information through education or
experience. To wonder is to be curious to know something. The meaning behind Morgan s quote is
that once someone learns something new, they want to investigate or know more.
Once we are told something we did not know, our curiosity tells us to do some research or to ask
questions in order to know more about the topic. I have been in this situation multiple times. When I
was first told about the Northridge Earthquake that happened a few years ago, I was shocked and I
was dying to know more. I had to do some research on my own and my knowledge about the
earthquake expanded. Not only did I know what happened, but I also knew how it happened, why it

Similarities Between Bend It Like Beckham
Gurinder Chadha, the director of Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice, invisions similar
ideas in both films. This can be seen throughout both movies by the way the protagonists gets told
what to do by their mothers due to their gender. Another concept that has been used in both films is the
difference in cultures between Indians and Americans. Gurinder Chadha shows this by putting the two
cultures next to each other so we can see the differences and similarities between them.
Culture clash is when different cultures have a difference in their beliefs and their values. Most of
Gurinder Chadha s movies contain characters from different cultures that have different beliefs and
ideas. She also puts the characters in a different country so we can see their experiences of another ...

it shows peace and purity. It is very rude to wear white for a wedding in India. This scene is a great
example of culture clash as the film technique of costume is shown through the different clothes they

mother of Jesminder is angry at Jesminder for wearing shorts while playing football. She says I don t

clothing that covers most of their skin, while the English people wear casual clothing, either short or

Methodology:
In order to achieve the above goals, several steps were carried out. First, various online dating sites
were considered and narrowed down to three possible choices: eHarmony, Match.com, and Christian
Mingle. Three ideas were brought forth regarding which site to analyse in order to determine which
sites could potentially hold more issues and which site had sufficient content to be analyzed
effectively. Next in the process, eHarmony was chosen as the site that would be the target for analysis.
eHarmony is a very popular dating site and is well known due to their numerous infomercials and
online advertisements and thus presents a great opportunity to examine the elements involved in a
formal and well designed user agreement. Following the choosing of a site, a copy of the user
agreement from eHarmony was obtained and given an initial review. This step acted as the first run
through of the agreement, which involved identifying possible legal issues in the clauses, highlighting
important points form each clause, and gaining a general understanding of the agreement. The
agreement consisted of two separate documents titled Privacy Policy and Terms of Service , each
outlining the obligations of the company and the customer respectively. In addition, an examination of
the actual purpose and requirements of the assignment was carried out. In this particular phase of the
paper, the course outline was reviewed and the outline of the paper

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris Essay
The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
The novel The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris is said to fall under the genre of psychological
horror. The stories that fall under the genre of horror include a few essential elements: a villain or one
seen as evil to create an initial story line. The foil is the next element; a foil is a person who tries to
stop the villain from going through with the evil plan or plot. These two elements naturally lead to
conflict between the two persons or groups and then from this conflict suspense, the last element is
added. Suspense is important to keep the reader interested and to keep the story line going. When
psychology is added to a story, the definition of horror is changed completely. ... Show more content

Abstract
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that can present in many different ways. Most often, symptoms
display in a negative or positive manner. While medications are on the market to mitigate symptoms,
the optimal treatment method couples both pharmaceutical and psychiatric rehabilitation. The Patient
Outcomes Research Team, commonly called PORT, has issued treatment recommendations for
Schizophrenia. The first publication, issued in 1998, has offered compiled research in the realm of
Schizophrenia. The following paper will discuss the treatment options for Schizophrenia to reflect the
2003 guidelines of the PORT publication.

The Treatment Prospects for Schizophrenia
In the DSM 5, Schizophrenia is termed as having both positive and negative symptoms. Positive
symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech (American Psychiatric
Association, 2013). Negative symptoms, on the other hand, are anhedonia and depression. Anhedonia
is the inability to gain pleasure from seemingly pleasurable experiences. The threshold for DSM 5
indicates that a person must show two or more symptoms to be considered Schizophrenic. The patient
must display symptoms for a minimum of six months. A publication by Stephen Erhart, Stephen

Eyewitness Misidentification
It has been shown that eyewitness misidentification is one of the biggest factors in wrongful
convictions, which has been overturned due to DNA (Innocence). Forensic evidence is one of the
factors used to determine ones guilt or innocence in the court of law; however, some of the evidence
used can pose a problem in court. Eye witness testimony has caused a lot of faults in court cases
because it is portrayed as a strong factor of evidence. Eye witness testimony should not be used as
primary evidence because of how unreliable, misidentified, and the impact it can have in the court of
law. Eyewitness identification should have different alternatives in how it should be presented to the
witness so that bias is not present. Forensic evidence has been shown to be reliable due to many

Non Newtonian Matter
What is a Non newtonian matter? How does slime fall into this category? What are Newtonian
matters? Newtonian matter is matter that follows Newton s law of Viscosity. Newton s law of
Viscosity is the relationship between shear rate of a fluid subjected to a outer, physical stress and shear
stress. The ratio between the two, under a certain amount of stress and under a certain temperature is
the viscosity or coefficient of viscosity. Viscosity is the thickness of a liquid or how much the liquid
resists to pouring. Only three states of matter fall under Newton s law of Viscosity, solids, liquids, and

This force compresses the gas inside the ball. Immediately, the gas begins to expand again, returning
the ball to its normal shape. This action is a bit like a spring that causes the ball to bounce back into
the air. So how does temperature affect the bounce of a ball? Assuming that the density and the
constant of the ball remain unchanged. Looking at only the temperature as part of the equation, you
will easily find that a higher temperature will lead to a higher pressure. This is because the gas
molecules inside the ball expand as temperature increases. As the gas molecules expand, their energy
increases and they bounce around faster inside the ball. That s why higher pressure leads to a higher
bounce of the ball. Likewise, a lower temperature will lead to a lower pressure. As the temperature
decreases, gas molecules contract and move around more slowly with less energy. Thus, lower
pressure leads to a lower bounce of the ball. That s why a fully inflated ball might appear deflated if
the temperature drops dramatically. As you probably already know, that partially deflated ball won t
bounce nearly as high as it would if it were

New Zealand s Water Quality
Fresh water is a diverse issue due to its implications on aquatic life, drinking water supplies, cultural
views and water based recreation. It is a political object in the way it can be regulated at a local and
national scale. This essay is going to focus on New Zealand s water quality, as an issue, through the
use of Michel Foucault s theories. Foucault s major influences in theory focus on the struggle of
power relations.
I have previously reviewed three papers by Foucault, and will use the key points I found in these
readings to look at water quality. The alternatives to the prison found that power gets to define what
the truth is, and this makes truth a social category (Foucault, 2009). This is related to the function of
the state who defines what is allowed and what is not. The state can be seen to use illegalities that
benefit them and therefore make them legal. It also looks at the use of surveillance to control people s
actions. The crisis of medicine or anti medicine looks at the control of medicine (Foucault, 2004). It
was used by the state to control the health of people, as they thought a healthy population equalled a
stronger, more threatening population. This again looks at the power of the state over people. The third

Amtrak Train Derailment
Who are the stakeholders in this case?
The stakeholders in this case are the passengers, crew and their families, aboard the Amtrak train that
derailed. They are also the corporate investors who hold stock in Amtrak and all Amtrak employees
who have invested their time in employment with the organization. They could easily lose their jobs if
a major layoff occurred or the organization filed for bankruptcy due to the millions they would be
required to pay in damages. Stakeholders are the members of the Mobile, Alabama community who
either witnessed or heard about the disaster and who may have lost trust in this railway system. The
crew and captain of the tug boat which ran its barges into the framework of the bridge are also
stakeholders, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ignoring recommendations such as CSX did, in not installing the emergency signal due to cost is an
example of social irresponsibility (Eisenbeis, et al, nd). Amtrak could have better communications and
emergency systems aboard the trains and passenger cars, to alert the entire crew of emergencies.
Though this may not be an issue of irresponsibility, it has implications for future rail travel. WGN has
an ethical responsibility to ensure that vessel crews are trained and updated on navigation techniques,
so that injury to innocent bystanders does not occur. They also have an ethical responsibility to have
proper navigation systems on board the vessels.
Philanthropic Social Responsibility
Travel and transport organizations do not have a specific responsibility to become involved in
philanthropic activities, though they should at least insure that the communities in which they travel
through are not adversely affected either economically or environmentally, as a result of their travels.
They could take measures to provide incentives for jobs and training for jobs of those in the
communities in which they travel through, as taxpayers of those communities share the burden of
building bridges and roads. Because the organizations also contribute to introducing carbon emissions
into the environment, they should work with and offer some financial support to organizations that
help monitor and

Understanding The Value Of Health Economics
Understanding the value of health economics is very important during this rapidly changing
environment. Health economics is the study of how transactions or connections between health and
the resources needed are made and of the bottom line results (Getzen, 2013). Resources include
money but also people, materials and time that could have been used in other ways. Our healthcare
needs may be unlimited but the resources we have to satisfy them are not. We must make careful
choices about which needs are most important and how to manage limited resources. Decision makers
take the information given to make choices about what new and existing medicines and technologic
advances will be used. Vaccines for example and other new technologies can be very costly.
Therefore, we must measure whether or not the benefits outweigh the costs (Teitelbaum Wilensky,
2013).
Health is important to us as individuals. As stated in Getzen (2013), health is so precious that its value
exceeds that of all the things we possess. Healthcare is one way of preventing and treating illness and
disease. Our country must make good decisions now for our future health. We need to carefully
evaluate and implement modern and emerging health technologies and advances (Getzen, 2013).
Americans needs to look at health care policy and understand what works and what does not work.
Health care policy and government involvement benefits society in many ways including improved
access to care, improved quality of

Texas Constitution Vs Us Constitution Essay
The Texas Constitution and the United States Constitution have many similarities and differences. For
example, they both have a Bill of Rights and both work hard to be sure to protect the rights of their
citizens. They both deal with the privacy of their citizens but the Texas constitution is very verbose
while the U.S. Constitution is very brief and to the point. The Texas Constitution also outlines strict
laws regarding the states spending requirements.
Both the Texas and the U.S. Constitution have a Bill of Rights, checks and balances, and have divided
government via lower and higher powers. The U.S. Constitution was created to give the government
power, in contrast the Texas constitution made sure that the main government does not have too much
power over the Texas citizens. The founding fathers of the Texas constitution were wary of the
government wielding too much power so they wanted to be careful to protect themselves. A similaritiy
between the U.S. and Texas Constitutions include the fact that both have a Bill of Rights that protects
the basic rights of the citizens. Such as how the Texas Constitution states that no one can be
imprisoned for his or her debts. (Texas Article 1 Sec. 18) However, in the U.S. Constitution if
someone commits suicide they cannot pass their inheritance down to their descendants. (Article 1 Sec.

Art in War
Art in War A pioneer of artistic influence in American culture, Frederick Childe Hassam led the
revolution of art in the World War I era. In the midst of a world crisis, Hassam became a trailblazer of
his own technique; he promoted a new form of Impressionism that not only reinforced the subtlety and
free flow style of French Impressionism, but also reinforced the vivacity and tenacity that he wanted
to express. Amalgamating the techniques of French Impressionism with the nationalistic values of the
American art and culture, Hassam promulgated what was eventually known as American
Impressionism. However, throughout this assembly process , Hassam never forgot his goal: to vividly
capture the patriotism that the American, British, and French people all shared in a time of upheaval,
and use it to unite them. He displayed the newfound and unlikely alliance between the Allied powers
through his art, and in doing so, progressively strengthened the alliance between France, Great Britain,
and the United States. In Europe and the United States, the American Impressionists witnessed the
transformation from an agrarian to an industrialized urban society, especially over the course of time
leading up to the war. Hassam was simultaneously excited by change and nostalgic for the reassuring
and familiar past. Unlike many painters, Hassam did not spend a lifetime in pursuit of his art with
little critical, social or financial recognition. He was a tremendously talented painter who

Owen Meany Character Analysis
In John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany and Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, main
characters John Wheelwright and Tim O Brien are faced with the draft of the Vietnam war. John
Wheelwright is anti war, and successfully avoids the draft, but not without the help and influence of
his dear friend, Owen Meany. Tim O Brien is similarly influenced by his own doubts and acquaintance
Elroy, but with a very different outcome. As a result, Tim O Brien decides to honor the draft despite
his fear of war. Although both John Wheelwright and Tim O Brien make very different choices in
respect to the draft, they face very similar repercussions for their decisions. In this time, men were
expected to participate in the draft for the Vietnam war and John ... Show more content on

John may not regret evading the draft, but he definitely feels the consequences the method in which he
chose to evade the draft has brought. As a result of John not having to fear the draft as many of men
his age do, he feels disconnected. John recognizes that his generation is anti war because they are
afraid of being forced to fight in the war and that is not a fear he has to have. John expresses the
disconnect he feels when he says I had a 4 F deferment; I would never have to go to war, or to Canada.
By the simple act of removing the first two joints of my right index finger, Owen Meany had enabled
me to feel completely detached from my generation (Irving 532). Although fighting in the war is not
what John wanted, the way he describes having his finger cut off as a simple act gives the impression
that he feels it was a cop out because he could have ran away to Canada and still felt a part of his
generation. In addition, John says I was still a little self conscious about my missing finger. The scar
tissue was new enough so that any exertion the stump to look inflamed (Irving 532). John s scarred
finger is not just unsightly, it is a reminder to himself and a tell tale sign to everyone else, that John

would be the Indominus rex who poses as a threat to their safety and confronts them with the need to
stay alive, to survive. Phase one of the GAS, alarm, can be seen when Owen and the guard realize
Indominus is with them inside the paddock. We see them become more alert and we can guess that
their hearts have begun to race. During Phase 2, resistance, your temperature, blood pressure, and
respiration remain high. Your adrenal glands pump hormones into your bloodstream. You are fully
engaged, summoning all your resources to meet the challenge (Myers, 2014, p.393). Owen

close behind. Adrenaline has kicked in and he s using everything in him to run faster. We can only

To Kill A Mockingbird Setting Analysis
I think there s just one kind of folks. Folks (Lee 304). This concept that Scout brings up goes against
what others Maycomb believe in as Maycomb County from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has
lots of prejudice. Two reasons why the setting is very significant are, Maycomb County is a small
town the significance of that is that everyone knows each other and often have the same views as each
other this in turn causes prejudice. Also, Maycomb community finds their history to be very important
this changes how people act which shows how the setting could have major effects. In Harper Lee s To
Kill a Mockingbird, setting is very significant. Harper Lee uses the setting of Maycomb to bring forth
the idea that everyone knows everyone else because, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Maycomb the actions of your relatives in the past affects your future if no one likes your relatives
in the past they will not like you to. This is why setting can be so significant to the novel. Even
children find it shameful to not understand their family history as it is a source of pride for the people
of Maycomb. Scout says, Being Southerners, it was a source of shame to some members of the family
that we had no recorded ancestors on either side of the Battle of Hastings (3). To Kill a Mockingbird
takes place around 1935 approximately 870 years earlier is when the Battle of Hastings took place.
This would seem absurd to other people since this event took place hundreds of years ago. However,
since the setting is Maycomb which is in the south this is very important to them. This is concept is
due only to the setting which shows just how important it is to the novel. This next evidence will
further prove that people from Maycomb feel like history is crucial to their lives. Scout says, It was a
sad thing that my father had neglected to tell me about the Finch family or install any pride into his
children (176). This furthers the knowledge that everyone in Maycomb even children believe it is
necessary to learn about their heritage and about family history. In Maycomb people find history so
important that they make plays about it. Mrs. Merriweather, Chanted mournfully about Maycomb

The Geographic Landscape Of The African Continent
When it comes to discussing the geographic landscape of the African continent people are quick to
overlook the important role that soil has played in the development of cultures and civilizations in
Africa because it can be so easily overshadowed by Africa s other geographic features such as its
rivers, mountains, deserts and grasslands. However, to ignore soil is undoubtedly a mistake because
African soils cannot be separated from African history (Showers 118). Soils are literally the
foundation of life, used for farming, building houses, making pottery, and mined for their mineral
deposits. They are in themselves, historical bodies and they have interacted with human history since
its beginning. (Showers 118). While looking for information on the soil of Africa it is not uncommon
to find descriptions such as African soils are indeed poor (Bohannan 23) while being presented with
the seemingly paradoxical fact that By far the greatest number of Africans are farmers. (Bohannan 43).
This paper will examine how it is possible for Africa to be a continent consisting of such poor soil yet
be full of such a rich history of farming that persists into present day. It will explore the general
characteristics of African soil, how humans have historically interacted with soil, and the way that
outsiders have used generalizations about Africa s soil to perpetuate Western misconceptions.
When attempting to gain insight into the general characteristics of African soil it is

and cons of using social media for academic practice. Previous reviews of the literature have
suggested that access to technology is inequitable (Jackson, Ervin, Gardner, Schmitt, 2001; Morgan

opportunities to use social media tools than their white peers (Volman van Eck, 2001). As such, this

potential inequities in the use of social media for academic practice. Social Media Use by Students

Bone Cancer
Exploring the Symptoms, Treatment, Prevention, and Statistics of Chondrosarcoma and Osteosarcoma
Alexus Edwards Gabrielle Newton
Ms. Knetter A1
Ronald Wilson Reagan College Preparatory IB High School
Bone cancer is an uncommon disease that typically develops in the arm and leg bones (Mayo Clinic,
2015). Every year, there is an estimated 2,970 diagnoses made in the United States between all ages
and genders (Cancer.net, 2014). The two most common types are osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma,
both of which share similar symptoms, treatment options, and survival rates.
Bone cancer is defined as the uncontrolled growth of bone cells. The first recognizable symptoms are
pain and tenderness in the bone. Other common signs include decreased mobility of a joint, fatigue, as
well as anemia. Bone tumors are a clear indicator of bone cancer, however, they often go unnoticed
until significant pain or injury has been acquired as a result. Apart from tumors, the symptoms of bone
cancer are indecisive and can pertain to a number of medical conditions. This condition cannot be self
diagnosed, but only determined through further inspection by a doctor. (Viswanatha, 2011). There are
two types of bone tumors: benign (non cancerous and typically non threatening) and malignant
(cancerous and requiring medical attention). Such growths are seen in metastatic bone cancers, a type
of cancer that does not originally start in the bones, but spreads to the bones from

losses were $1.6 billion in a fund set up to maximize profits through a speculative investment strategy
(high yield, interest sensitive and highly leveraged securities) (Saskal, 2005). During a time of low
interest rates the investment strategy was returning a great investment; however, when interest rates
began the upward rise, the fund began losing money and ultimately was not able to cover loan
payments. This led to the county to file for bankruptcy. This paper will discuss some of the

Generally, municipalities will issue pensions bonds to cover liabilities set for employee pension plans.
While Orange County approved benefit enhancements that lowered retirement age and increased
benefits, thus increasing the pension liabilities in 2003, the advisory committee set up after the
bankruptcy did not immediately approve a corresponding pension bond at the time of the article s
writing. Refinancing Recovery bonds were issued in 1996 for Orange County. Saskal (2004) provides
the rates of the bonds were higher coupon bonds ranging from 5.6% with 2009 maturity to 5.8% with
2016 maturity and a 6.0% with 2026 maturity. According to the article, repayment of the loans was to
become a priority, however, due to legal/tax issues; the method of payment is still to be determined.
Conclusion The bankruptcy of Orange County, the high economic county of California, took a lot of
people by surprise. The ratings of the bonds were low risk investment grade, yet because of a highly
risky investment strategy and increasing interest rates, the bottom fell out and the option Orange
County followed was bankruptcy. For investors that stayed with Orange County through restructuring
and after emerging from bankruptcy, they were rewarded with full principal payments, and past due
interest. The county also started an advisory committee to prevent future

Encyclopedie Observation
After visiting the exhibit on the encyclopedie I have learned many things in regards to the upcoming
French Revolution. During the eighteenth century was the period known as the enlightenment. The
enlightenment was most important in terms of emphasizing proven information as opposed to
superstition. At this time men and women of the enlightenment developed new ideas and developed
intellectual texts. One such text was the encyclopedie which attempted to record all of human
knowledge. Of the many things I have learned after visiting the exhibit I believe the most important
things I have learned from this experience include: the importance of our current freedoms, the
importance of standing up for what s important to you, and the importance of understanding how
language shapes how an individual sees the world. First off, the encyclopedie was published between
1751 and 1772 and as stated previously, attempted to record all of human knowledge. The chief
editors of the intellectual text were Denis Diderot and Jean Le Rond d Alembert. Due to their values
and ideas contradicting those of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

from heaven and as a natural right bestowed by an intelligent creator. He stood up for this idea through
the continued creation of the encyclopedie. Within the encyclopedie he states The people of a given
society are thus obligated to overthrow any ruler who has ignored the natural limits placed upon their
power. Although there were potential risks for their continuing to publish the encyclopedie they
pushed on because they understood the importance of standing up for what was important to

Examples Of Project Censorship In this media, censorship and propaganda essay I will define and explain what project censored is and what they mean by modern media censorship, providing examples. I will cover whether there are actually censorship issues or if the reporting is done containing deliberate imperfections to cloud the real stories that are being withheld from the American public; followed by examples of Junk Food News or News Abuse and my thoughts on those examples. Lastly, I will discuss free press and its effect on current and past event Project Censored is an organization that educates students and the public about the importance of a truly free press for democratic self government. We expose and oppose news censorship and we promote independent investigative journalism, media literacy, and critical thinking. Project Censored highlights the important links among a free press, media literacy and democratic self government. 1 Project Censored was created during the time of the Nixon Watergate incident. Dr. Carl Jensen, the founder of project censored, was shocked to see that Richard Nixon was elected to another term as President of the United States after all that happened with Watergate. Modern media censorship is a restrictive way of molding and shaping the way that the media presents news to the public. Objects, such as the scaffold, were ritualistic symbols for such concepts as sin and penitence. A person might wonder why Hawthorne uses his characters as symbols, and van Kirk would answer them, using his characters as symbols, Hawthorne describes the grim underside of Page 2 Puritanism that lurks beneath the public piety (91). Chillingworth is symbolized as the devil. From the very beginning of the novel, it can be learned that Chillingworth seeks reveng we on whoever committed adultery with his wife. Hawthorne proves this when Chillingworth says, It irks me nevertheless, that the partner of her inequity should not, at least, stand on the scaffold by her side. But he will be known! he will be known! he will be known! (43). Van Kirk realizes that when Chillingworth arrives in the colony and learns of Hester s situation, he leaves her alone nearly seven years as he singlemindedly pursues Dimmsdale. The colony prospered as an east west trading center, the commercial gateway to, and distribution center for, South China. It was efficiently governed, and its banking, insurance, and shipping services quickly became known as the most reliable in Southeast Asia. In 1921 the British agreed to limit the fortifications of the colony, and this contributed to its easy conquest by the Japanese. It was reoccupied by the British on Sept. 16, 1945. The crackdown in 1989 at Tiananmen Square in Beijing inspired fears that China would not respect Hong Kong s autonomy, and in the next few years many business people left, affecting Hong Kong s economy. In 1991, Hong Kong s first direct legislative elections were won almost entirely by liberal, pro democracy candidates, and no pro China candidates were elected. In the 1995 elections prodemocracy candidates received about 60% of the popular vote. Upon Hong s return to China, Beijing abolished the legislature set up by the British and established a provisional legislature; a chief executive, Tung Chee hwa, was also appointed. Elections were held in 1998, with prodemocracy parties taking 16 of the 20 directly elected seats. Hong Kong was affected by the Asian financial crisis of 1997 98, but its economy began to rebound in 1999. The foil is the next element; a foil is a person who tries to stop the villain from going through with the evil plan or plot. These two elements naturally lead to conflict between the two persons or groups and then from this conflict suspense, the last element is added. Suspense is important to keep the reader interested and to keep the story line going. When psychology is added to a story, the definition of horror is changed completely. ... This force compresses the gas inside the ball. Immediately, the gas begins to expand again, returning the ball to its normal shape. This action is a bit like a spring that causes the ball to bounce back into the air. So how does temperature affect the bounce of a ball? Assuming that the density and the constant of the ball remain unchanged. Looking at only the temperature as part of the equation, you will easily find that a higher temperature will lead to a higher pressure. This is because the gas molecules inside the ball expand as temperature increases. As the gas molecules expand, their energy increases and they bounce around faster inside the ball. That s why higher pressure leads to a higher bounce of the ball. Likewise, a lower temperature will lead to a lower pressure. As the temperature decreases, gas molecules contract and move around more slowly with less energy. Thus, lower pressure leads to a lower bounce of the ball. That s why a fully inflated ball might appear deflated if the temperature drops dramatically. It is a political object in the way it can be regulated at a local and national scale. This essay is going to focus on New Zealand s water quality, as an issue, through the use of Michel Foucault s theories. Foucault s major influences in theory focus on the struggle of power relations. I have previously reviewed three papers by Foucault, and will use the key points I found in these readings to look at water quality. The alternatives to the prison found that power gets to define what the truth is, and this makes truth a social category (Foucault, 2009). This is related to the function of the state who defines what is allowed and what is not. The state can be seen to use illegalities that benefit them and therefore make them legal. It also looks at the use of surveillance to control people s actions. The crisis of medicine or anti medicine looks at the control of medicine (Foucault, 2004). It was used by the state to control the health of people, as they thought a healthy population equalled a stronger, more threatening population. This again looks at the power of the state over people. The third reading, spaces of security, looks at the implications of trying to plan for the future, and how it is near impossible to plan for every possible situation (Foucault Knowlton King, 2007). Health economics is the study of how transactions or connections between health and the resources needed are made and of the bottom line results (Getzen, 2013). Resources include money but also people, materials and time that could have been used in other ways. Our healthcare needs may be unlimited but the resources we have to satisfy them are not. We must make careful choices about which needs are most important and how to manage limited resources. Decision makers take the information given to make choices about what new and existing medicines and technologic advances will be used. Vaccines for example and other new technologies can be very costly. Therefore, we must measure whether or not the benefits outweigh the costs (Teitelbaum Wilensky, 2013). Health is important to us as individuals. As stated in Getzen (2013), health is so precious that its value exceeds that of all the things we possess. Healthcare is one way of preventing and treating illness and disease. Our country must make good decisions now for our future health. We need to carefully evaluate and implement modern and emerging health technologies and advances (Getzen, 2013). • 24. Art in War Art in War A pioneer of artistic influence in American culture, Frederick Childe Hassam led the revolution of art in the World War I era. In the midst of a world crisis, Hassam became a trailblazer of his own technique; he promoted a new form of Impressionism that not only reinforced the subtlety and free flow style of French Impressionism, but also reinforced the vivacity and tenacity that he wanted to express. Amalgamating the techniques of French Impressionism with the nationalistic values of the American art and culture, Hassam promulgated what was eventually known as American Impressionism. However, throughout this assembly process , Hassam never forgot his goal: to vividly capture the patriotism that the American, British, and French people all shared in a time of upheaval, and use it to unite them. He displayed the newfound and unlikely alliance between the Allied powers through his art, and in doing so, progressively strengthened the alliance between France, Great Britain, and the United States. In Europe and the United States, the American Impressionists witnessed the transformation from an agrarian to an industrialized urban society, especially over the course of time leading up to the war. Hassam was simultaneously excited by change and nostalgic for the reassuring and familiar past. Bone Cancer Exploring the Symptoms, Treatment, Prevention, and Statistics of Chondrosarcoma and Osteosarcoma Alexus Edwards Gabrielle Newton Ms. Knetter A1 Ronald Wilson Reagan College Preparatory IB High School Bone cancer is an uncommon disease that typically develops in the arm and leg bones (Mayo Clinic, 2015). Every year, there is an estimated 2,970 diagnoses made in the United States between all ages and genders (Cancer.net, 2014). The two most common types are osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma, both of which share similar symptoms, treatment options, and survival rates. Bone cancer is defined as the uncontrolled growth of bone cells. The first recognizable symptoms are pain and tenderness in the bone. Other common signs include decreased mobility of a joint, fatigue, as well as anemia. Bone tumors are a clear indicator of bone cancer, however, they often go unnoticed until significant pain or injury has been acquired as a result. Apart from tumors, the symptoms of bone cancer are indecisive and can pertain to a number of medical conditions. This condition cannot be self diagnosed, but only determined through further inspection by a doctor. (Viswanatha, 2011). There are two types of bone tumors: benign (non cancerous and typically non threatening) and malignant (cancerous and requiring medical attention). Such growths are seen in metastatic bone cancers, a type of cancer that does not originally start in the bones, but spreads to the bones from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Orange County Bankruptcy Bond Pricing and Yield Mini Case Orange County, California filed for bankruptcy in 1994 mostly because of losses experienced in experienced in the Orange County Investment Pool (OCIP). The losses were $1.6 billion in a fund set up to maximize profits through a speculative investment strategy (high yield, interest sensitive and highly leveraged securities) (Saskal, 2005). During a time of low interest rates the investment strategy was returning a great investment; however, when interest rates began the upward rise, the fund began losing money and ultimately was not able to cover loan payments. This led to the county to file for bankruptcy. This paper will discuss some of the ramifications presented to Orange County as a result of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, municipalities will issue pensions bonds to cover liabilities set for employee pension plans. While Orange County approved benefit enhancements that lowered retirement age and increased benefits, thus increasing the pension liabilities in 2003, the advisory committee set up after the bankruptcy did not immediately approve a corresponding pension bond at the time of the article s writing. Refinancing Recovery bonds were issued in 1996 for Orange County. Saskal (2004) provides the rates of the bonds were higher coupon bonds ranging from 5.6% with 2009 maturity to 5.8% with 2016 maturity and a 6.0% with 2026 maturity. According to the article, repayment of the loans was to become a priority, however, due to legal/tax issues; the method of payment is still to be determined. Conclusion The bankruptcy of Orange County, the high economic county of California, took a lot of people by surprise. The ratings of the bonds were low risk investment grade, yet because of a highly risky investment strategy and increasing interest rates, the bottom fell out and the option Orange County followed was bankruptcy. For investors that stayed with Orange County through restructuring and after emerging from bankruptcy, they were rewarded with full principal payments, and past due interest. The county also started an advisory committee to prevent future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Encyclopedie Observation After visiting the exhibit on the encyclopedie I have learned many things in regards to the upcoming French Revolution. During the eighteenth century was the period known as the enlightenment. The enlightenment was most important in terms of emphasizing proven information as opposed to superstition. At this time men and women of the enlightenment developed new ideas and developed intellectual texts. One such text was the encyclopedie which attempted to record all of human knowledge. Of the many things I have learned after visiting the exhibit I believe the most important things I have learned from this experience include: the importance of our current freedoms, the importance of standing up for what s important to you, and the importance of understanding how language shapes how an individual sees the world. First off, the encyclopedie was published between 1751 and 1772 and as stated previously, attempted to record all of human knowledge. The chief editors of the intellectual text were Denis Diderot and Jean Le Rond d Alembert. Due to their values and ideas contradicting those of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way they were standing up for what was important to them because they felt it was necessary for them to share their knowledge with the world. Diderot believed liberty to be a gift from heaven and as a natural right bestowed by an intelligent creator. He stood up for this idea through the continued creation of the encyclopedie. Within the encyclopedie he states The people of a given society are thus obligated to overthrow any ruler who has ignored the natural limits placed upon their power. Although there were potential risks for their continuing to publish the encyclopedie they pushed on because they understood the importance of standing up for what was important to ...
