The Freedom Riders Essay
Nearly 200 years ago, after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, slavery was no longer
allowed; but America was still segregated. Segregation in many public places continued especially
in the South. At this time, segregation was legal. In 1892, the Supreme Court had ruled that a state
could separate whites and blacks as long as the services were equal. On May 4, 1961, a diverse
group of thirteen courageous individuals known as the Freedom Riders embarked on a bus journey
into the South in order to challenge segregation in bus terminals. Although many individuals
believed that segregation was wrong, many southern states continued to practice racial segregation.

When asked by the driver why she had not stood up, Rosa replied that she did not feel that she
should have to stand up. Parks said that she was tired of giving in. The police arrested Parks who
was later released on bail. Rosa Parks became a symbol for the Civil Rights Movement by
refusing to give up her seat and go to the back of the bus (Rosa Parks Biography). Although there
had been a ruling by the Interstate Commerce Commission that blacks could sit wherever they
wanted on buses that traveled through more than one state and the Supreme Court had ruled that
segregation on buses was unconstitutional, blacks continued to face difficulties when riding buses
in the Deep South. There were signs in southern bus terminals indicating areas where blacks
were to sit. Separate restrooms were to be used by whites and blacks. In order to test these
rulings and draw attention to the Civil Rights Movement, a decision was made to conduct
Freedom Rides. A group of whites and blacks would challenge these practices (Freedom Riders).
Those who wanted to be members of this initial group were asked to complete an application,
include a recommendation from a teacher or pastor, and write an essay about their commitment to
the civil rights movement. Those under the age of twenty one had to have parent permission.
Several dozen applications were received. The organizers selected Freedom Riders of various
religions, ages, color, and areas of the

The Second Tradition of Thanksgiving Essay
When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total
gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount of food. Others might think of
the time spent with family and friends. The whole basis of the holiday is family togetherness,
fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year.
Every family has their own unique way of spending time together with loved ones only seen during
the holidays. In the Stock home, there is only one thing we enjoy doing. Sure, like every other
family we have our grand and elaborate dinner, which is composed of all the greatest delicacies my
mother and grandmother can whip up. Of course, as is expected, ... Show more content on

After all a truly intelligent mind could be playing video games or running around endlessly with
your cousins playing your own football games and other sports. I followed this train of thought for
many Thanksgivings, until the point when I realized that I did not have an inextinguishable
amount of energy any more, and that I could not be part of that much physical activity without
feeling as old as my father the next morning. So after weighing these problems, I realized that the
men in my immediate family and I should really consider spending time with family members we
do not see on a regular basis. I have never been particularly close with any one in my extended
relation, so I figured what better way strengthen my relationship with my family than to share in
this excellent tradition. (Stock)
I sat with these guys and started discussing actual topics, more than Hey, how you doing? and
ending the conversation there. I realized I have a lot more interesting relatives with similar interests
than I expected.
So, after a few quarters and a lot of snacks we lay back and relax from that stuff in turkey. It is
unbelievable how many snacks a stuffed person can eat even after a huge dinner. While watching a
football game a full stomach does not register. As the afternoon slowly turns into night, we sink

Music Therapy Use For Autism Spectrum Disorder
Music Therapy Use for Autism Spectrum Disorder According to the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, about 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
is a serious neurodevelopmental disorder that impairs a child s ability to communicate and interact
with others (Mayo Clinic, 2014). Individuals who suffer from this disorder are often hindered by
behaviors that keep them from properly functioning in their everyday lives. It is hard for a child
with autismto form and maintain relationships with family and friends since they are lacking the
proper behavioral skills to do so. When a child is diagnosed with ASD, three crucial areas of
development are affected: verbal and nonverbal communication, behavior, and social interaction.
Since there is no known cause or cure for this disorder, early treatment methods, such as music
therapy, can be used to make a huge difference in the lives of the children with ASD. Using music
therapy for children with ASD involves a board certified music therapist working with autistic
children to explore the benefits that music can have on their behavior, communication, and
development of social skills. Children who are diagnosed with ASD have many treatment types
available to them. Most of these treatment options are centered on the development of the autistic
children s social and behavioral skills, which can help them achieve as normal of a life as possible.
Without treatment, most children with ASD will

Monologue Of Caroline
Caroline, my dear friend, took ME to a theater performance. The main theme was that people
were supposed to act like they were rich. Caroline said : WOW! Have you seen that girl s dress?!
It is GORGEOUS! she said. No, I haven t. Where is she? It is right there! as she pointed her. She
was red headed with dark eyes. She looked like she was pale because of the lights, on the stage,
but she really wasn t, because, at the end of the show, we all had a chance to meet the actors, and
talk with them, get a picture, and know them a little better, so Caroline went to go see her and we
both saw that her skin was a little darker than we thought it would ve be.
On the stage, there was the king, the queen, and the Prince Charming, which he was supposed to be
the One that everybody loved, and the at the end of the performance, only one girl, over 35 will
remain to be with him forever and ever, and they shall build a family and live in the same city and
not move until they die.

I would use Canadian editions of the New York Times. Because about 20.2% of United States
attendants were conceived and taught in Canada. Canada holds the spot of pride as the third biggest
import hotspot for medical caretakers to the United States. With Canadian nurses, language issues
don t pose a problem, not do the instructive guidelines, which are near to those of their neighbor, the
United States. Canadian medical caretakers move to the US for better livelihood opportunities and
the chance to procure more cash.
The US speaks to an enormous occupation business sector to medical caretakers right now,
considering that it is shy of more than 30,000 attendants. This massive shortage and the appreciated
that is given to outside medical attendants make it enticing for medical caretakers even from
created nations, for example, Canada to work in the US.
The current online nurses ad needs to be more brief and descriptive. We can improve it by the

Nebuchadnezzar s Portrayal In The Book Of Daniel
Nebuchadnezzar is widely known through his portrayal in the Bible, especially the Book of
Daniel. The Bible discusses events of his reign and his conquest of Jerusalem. Daniel 2 contains
an account attributed to the second year of his reign, in which Nebuchadnezzar dreams of a huge
image made of various materials (gold, silver, bronze, iron and clay). The prophet Daniel tells him
Gods interpretation, that it stands for the rise and fall of world powers, starting with
Nebuchadnezzar s own as the golden head.
Daniel 3 is an account of Nebuchadnezzar erecting a large idol made of gold for worship during a
public ceremony on the plain of Dura. When three Hebrews, whose names were Hananiah, Mishael,

Why Are Carbohydrates Important In Living Organisms

Biology P: 5
Extra Credit The nucleic acid is needed in the body to keep our dna. Nucleic acid is a
macromolecule that stores and communicate genetic energy. There are six major nucleotides and it
is made of carbon nitrate, oxygen, phosphorus, and hydrogen. In living organisms there are two
types of nucleic acids called deoxyribonucleic acid and ribonucleic acid. DNA and RNA in the
nucleic acids bonds into the phosphate of another nucleotide. ATP stores energy in a storehouse
and it could only be used by cells in a variety of reactions. ATP releases energy when the second
and the third phosphate group is broken. Triphosphate is a nucleotide with three phosphate group.

Carbohydrates are composed of hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen. A formula often used is
(CH2O)ПЂ. Carbohydrates is important because it has a big role of providing energy for
organisms. Disaccharide is when two monosaccharides are joined together and monosaccharides
can also be linked to form a larger one. Disaccharide is the same as glucose as they are both
sugar. Longer carbohydrates are called polysaccharide. When your body needs energy during
physical activities or between meals glycogen is broken down into glucose. Carbohydrates is used
for both living organisms and plants. For living organisms it provides energy but for plants it is
called cellulose and that provides structural support in the cell walls. The cellulose is made up of
glucose chained and linked together. Chitin is the hard outer shell of a shrimp and of lobster.

Between The World And Me
Independent Reading Project Quarter Two: Between the World and Me
Summary
Inspired by James Baldwin s 1963 classic The Fire Next Time, Ta Nehisi Coates Between the
World and Me powerfully educates readers on what it means to be African American in the United
States today. It is formatted as a letter to his son, Samori, at the age of fifteen. It s intention being to
help him through navigate the world as a young African Americanmale. He does this through
sharing personal experiences and analyzing current events, with regards to historical context. By
communicating his ideas in this format, he is uniquely able to more broadly depict the concept of
racism in America. Where both memoirs and textbooks fall short, Between the World and Me does
not.
Object 1 Dollar Bill (significant concept) The first object I chose is a one dollar bill. Currency
blatantly represents wealth, that which Coates describes as coming from the oppression of
another. It is also used as a form of payment, showing the price paid by 250 years of people born
into slavery. Lastly, with George Washington inscribed on the front and In God... Show more

happened, but why it happened and how it will impact or result in other events; they give valuable
first hand perspective on the oppression of African Americans throughout our history, and the
effects it has on their communities. The term black on black crime is used sporadically in media,
depending on the source. I already knew it was not a fair statement to use, and involved
problematic wording, but the metaphor used to describe it gave me insight on it s implications that

Creating A Blue Ocean Strategy
According to Michael Porter, a company strategist who understands that competition extends well
beyond existing rivals will detect wider competitive threats and be better equipped to address them
(Porter, 2008, p.16). Thinking comprehensively about the structure of the industry as well as its
customers can afford companies the ability to obtain superior performance. Therefore, it is key for
companies to focus on how to maintain existing customers as well as lure new ones.
Three tiers of non customers
As we have learned from our readings, to create a blue ocean strategy means to reach out to
untapped market space, demand creation, and the opportunity for highly profitable growth (Kim
Mauborgne, 2005, p.4). These blue ocean strategies can exist beyond existing industries/markets or
they can be expanded upon in existing markets (red oceans). Either way, companies need to go
beyond competing (p.5). To do so companies should identify and attract non customers. The three
tiers of non customers identify different level of non customers companies can attract to convert
them into new customers. We will discuss these non customers as it applies to the Apple IPhone.
The first tier non customers are those smartphone users that are curious about the IPhone and
interested in possible switching. The launch of the IPhone 5 was geared towards two sets of
buyers; existing customers and first tier non customers. Both sets were disappointed with the
previous IPhones screen sizes. The

How A Structured Recess Program Affect The Number Of...
Question
How would the implementation of a structured recess program affect the number of behavior
referrals during intermediate recess?
Introduction
The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would
decrease aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of
behavior referral forms that would have to be written up. There is a growing problem in our
schools; children do not know how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and
more time in front of the television, video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are
not learning how to play properly with other children and are coming to school not knowing what
to do during recess time (Patrick, 1996). As they inter school it is now the schools job to teach the
students how to correctly interact while playing at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught
by school (Pellegrini, Bohn, 2005). Putting students on the a playground for recess time when they
do not know how to play and interact with other students will only lead to boredom and
inappropriate behavior. To avoid these inappropriate behaviors schools have started to use a more
structured recess approach to teach children how to play and interact while on the playground. The
question then becomes what structured recess program to use and will this program be truly
effective?
Possible Solution The first solution would be to start to use a structured recess

Disability, Health, And Health Care Of The African...
Disability: When it comes to disabilities, causation, health and health care in the African American
community, much of their beliefs around receiving treatment piggybacks on their values and beliefs
in religion and spirituality, including traditional health practices such as healers and Root doctors
(Goode, Jones, Jackson 168), as well as believing in karma, folk tales, faith and destiny. While some
African Americancommunity members may see a child being born with a disability to be a
blessing, representing the family s emotional strength, as well as being a blessing from god for
the child is seen as special, many others view a child having a disability as an evil act or a
punishment from God, or other higher beings, for family sins (Goode, Jones, Jackson 170). Many
African Americans also embrace the scientific, medical and genetic explanation of disabilities.
However, depending on the various beliefs causing disabilities in the community, different actions
are taken in order to treat the child. While their is no scientific cure for some disabilities, many
African Americans may turn to indigenous practices such as calling upon root doctors to break
spells and release the body and mind from any evil, or trying natural herbal remedies. Furthermore,
many religious African American s turn to God to heal their child. It was interesting that the
chapter highlighted that while religious beliefs and practices have been associated with lower

Themes in The Invisible Man by H.G Wells
The Invisible Man has many possible themes. There are multiple examples of different themes in
the novel. Most of them can almost fall under the same idea. The main theme for the novel is
how excessive greed can have unintended consequences. The main character, Griffin, goes mad
with the power of being invisible. It gets to the point that he is not even trying to just stay
hidden anymore, he is just trying to cause as much mayhem in the country as possible. One of
the first instances of greed is when he starts to take advantage of Mrs. Hall, the woman who
owns the Coach Horses Inn. Mrs. Hall mainly feels bad for him at first because she thinks he is
very hurt or injured in some sort of way due to him wrapping his head up. Griffin keeps... Show

his bill at the inn for a few days, Mrs. Hall wants an explanation for it. He even tries to give her

he stole was only real use for the money. Now that he cannot even give Mrs. Hall any more
money, he has no use for the money he has stolen whatsoever. After she asks for an explanation,
he removes all of his clothes to show how he invisible. Tons of people come to inn to see what is

he has done. He definitely could have gone around having to leave the town. He got way to

Irony In Ballad Of Birmingham
In the Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall, the story focuses around an African American girl
who wants to go march in downtown Birmingham so that she in contributing to the protest for
freedom. Her mother refuses to let her young girl go due to the horrible violence that it entitles.
Instead of going to the march, the mothersends her innocent child to church instead thinking that
she would be safer there than in Birmingham. What are the odds that her daughter died in church
and not at the march? Nothing bad could happen, right? The single most key element that shapes
the entire meaning on the poem is the irony in the situation that actually took place in 1963.
Though she begged but, mother, I won t be alone, / other children will go with me (Randall 9
10), the girl s mother would not allow her child to be put in the face of danger. The freedom
marches were anything but pleasant because like the mother says, I fear those guns will fire
(Randall 14). Dogs were released on African Americans, they were doused in water from firetruck
hoses, and even gun fire made an appearance in response to their protests. The freedom... Show

a chaos of violence. Therefore, the fact that the child died in a church bombing instead of at the

Queen Elizabeth Patriarchy Essay
There are many women over the ages that would be called feminist. Those would be the women
(and even men) that stood up and face the oppressors of women s rights head on, but the backed
justice to have an open dialogue has only been around for about a hundred years. Before that
time you were likely to be imprisoned or killed. To get around this patriarchy, women like Queen
Elizabeth and Elizabeth Cary, borrowed the old poetic device of allegory. The argument I m
going to present is that these women, through their allegories, helped paved the way for women s
rights and political power. Born in 1533, Elizabeth I came into the world with a promise and
blessings. Shakespeare would later put prophetic words into her grandfather s mouth saying, This
royal infant heaven still move about her / though in her cradle, yet now promises. / Upon this land a

You have a woman, a queen, a ruler of British Empire, and surrounding her were aristocrats,
priests, judges, and generals, all who were men. There were some that loved her, and treasured
her, but there were plenty that loathed the idea of taking commands from a woman. When she
wrote the poem, The Doubt of Future Foes, it is clear that Mary, The daughter of debate
(Elizabeth I, 134), her half sister, was the main focus, but I also feel it was written to others
within her count that whispered tales of uprising. I have two areas of support. The first was that
she, Elizabeth, made the poem public for all to see. If it was just for her half sister, why not just
give it to just her. No, I feel she was making a political statement here. She was showing her
authority, and perhaps knowledge of ill plots that surrounds her. The second comes from one line
in the poem. To pull their tops who seek such change (Elizabeth I, 134). The word Tops heavily

Folly And Reconstruction
The first episode of Eyes on the Prizes continues our study of American culture and politics by
revisiting the plight of the African Americans in the United States. Their struggle to claim the
freedoms and equalities outlined in the constitution was a daunting task. The period of
Reconstruction following the Civil War was scrapped and labelled a failure by Northerners and
Southerners alike. Both parties clung to myths that African Americans had been irresponsible with
the freedoms provided to them by the Emancipation Proclamation and the Amendments to the
Constitutional.
Despite common perceptions of black folly and Reconstruction failure, the era proved to be an
invaluable period which laid the ground work for African Americanvictories during the Civil Rights

The Old British Empire s Influence On Modern Museums Essay
The sun never sets on the British Empire is a phrase that is known all too well in regards to British
Imperialism and colonization spanning over Africa, Asia, North America, Australia, and Europe.
Over the years, England in particular, has had a major influence across the world as a global
superpower by sharing its own technology, culture, religion and more. But as much as they have
shared, they have also taken to enrich their own society with artifacts, designs, foods, and other
aspects of the foreign culture. This dynamic between Great Britain and each colonized country has
immensely shaped modern British museums by expanding the content in museums as it relates to
imperialism, diversifying the artifacts collected from other countries, and the influences it has had
on British society shown through museums collections. The old British Empires influence on
modern museums also raised many issues for contemporary curators and audiences concerning
museums glorifying imperialism, the ethically of keeping these collected artifacts, and if the
museums have a subtle underlying imperialistic bias.
To understand why imperialism is such a prominent theme in British museums it is important to
understand the history of British Imperialism in the first place. In the 15th and 16th centuries
Portugal and Spain were leading imperialist powers, sailing the seas and discovering new land and
becoming wealthier from the treasures these places held. After learning of the success

Acetaminophenol
After drying out the product and recrystallizing it for weighing, it was determined that the total
weight of the product was 0.091g which gave a percent yield of 32.535%, meaning that the overall
the reaction was successful however there are quite a few areas for improvement in this experiment
to increase the yield of the reaction. The melting point of the product was taken to be 170.7 degrees
C meaning that the product produced, despite having a low yield, was in fact acetaminophen and
not p aminophenol which would have melted at a higher temperatureof 188 190 degrees C. Looking
at the TLC plate it was shown that the reaction did in fact reach completion because the final
reaction mixture eluted as far as the acetaminophen standard and not as far as the p aminophenol
standard, meaning that the acetaminophen standard and the reaction mixture had the same
contents, without and p aminophenol. Finally looking at the IR spectrum, there is a peak at
around 3320 cm 1 which signifies a N H amide stretch, there is a broad peak at about 3107 cm 1
which is the phenolic OH stretch, and is broadened by the strong hydrogen bonding.

How Would A Trade Union Impact On My Family
The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers has had an
immense impact on my life. My father has been part of this union for over twenty years and it has
been very important for my family. This union has not only helped my family, but it has also made
my childhood very enjoyable with all of the events that are hosted for the families of union
members. The union has hosted an annual Christmasparty that was welcome for my familyto attend,
it has picnics in the summer for all to enjoy, and most importantly, the union has helped my family
financially.
There were many events hosted by the union every year and the annual union Christmas party
that was held for all union members was my favourite one to attend, especially as a child. Every
Christmas, I would look forward to this party because I loved the presents I received and taking

Dehumanization Of Boarding Schools
Kill the Indian in him, and save the man. That was the motto of government established boarding
schools for Native Americans on the western frontier. These schools were a cruel and dehumanizing
attempt at assimilating native culture with that of the European white man. By enrolling Native
American children in these schools, they were susceptible to new diseases brought from Europe,
such as tuberculosis and the flu, which the natives had never encountered and resulted fatal. Little
Indian boys who prided themselves in their long hair were forced to cut it off and exchanged their
given names for white names. Since Indian children were forced to speak only English, some
schools went so far as to punish whomever spoke in their native language. These schools had good
intentions, they offered nursing, education, and more opportunities to grow in the new society than
the Indians would otherwise ever receive, yet that gift was not requested by the native peoples. By
killing off Native Americans, making them resign aspects of their culture, and forcing them to
switch to the European language, government boarding schools completely replaced the culture of
Indians by means of cruel and dehumanizing procedures. The first government boarding schoolfor
Indians was located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and established in 1879. Founded by Richard Pratt, a
former frontier Indian fighter, the school was an attempt at assimilating their culture to that of the
white man s, rather than killing

diverse social status that they were from. For Stagg, his language had words that were mostly
used by people who had basic education and did not have good knowledge about matters (Ting

rather, he seemed to stick to the easy words that would convey his message easily to the other

through those words and what his emotions were. Hanscombe was continuously keeping his tone

Economic Turmoil Of Latvi A Case Study Presenting The...
Economic Turmoil in Latvia is a case study presenting the economic challenges with Latvia.
Latvia is a country of approximately 2.5 million people, and is part of the Baltic States. When
the Soviet Union collapsed, Latvia who is one of the three Baltic States gained its independence.
Latvia was doing well and was experiencing fast economic growth power driven by a vibrant
private sector (Hill, 2014). The following case study will elaborate more on Latviaeconomic
condition and present questions about the case study.
In 2004 the country joined the European Union and pegged it currency, the lat, to the value of the
euro (Hill, 2014). Latvia goal was to later adopt the euro. Latvia used a variation of a system
known as a currency bond, in order to sustain parity against the euro. Warnings started to surface in
2006 indicating the Latvian economy might be in trouble (Hill, 2014). The economy was thriving
because of inflow of foreign money into Latvian banks, mostly from Russia. These funds were
being used to finance lending. It was suggested to the government to restrain lending by raising
interest rates. However, these suggestion were ignored, and what the government failed to do...the
market did anyway (Hill, 2014).
It was in 2008 that the boom unraveled as the global economic crisis of over evaluation of U.S.
properties, expanded into other countries around the world. Latvia however, started to experience
trouble when Parex, the nation s largest bank, exposed it was in finance

Miscarriage Of Justice InTwelve Angry Men And Montana 1948
Twelve Angry Men , written by Reginald Rose and Montana 1948 , written by Larry Watson,
displays many similarities in miscarriage of justice as characters are not necessarily being fair
and reasonable. Characters are also prejudice as they have a preconceived notion not based on
reason or actual experience and thus, act harshly towards a minority. In the first novel, Twelve
Angry Men, juror three bases his opinion of the alleged criminal on his son and not as an
individual. In Montana 1948, Wesley, David s father bases his opinion on his brother s molestation
and nearly allows for his brother to go unpunished. However, the differ as prejudice holds Wesley
back from taking action towards his brother, but he cannot ignore the injustice whereas prejudice
motivates juror three to act quickly and stereotypethe alleged as guilty as he cannot sustain his hate.
In Twelve Angry Men , written by Reginald Rose, juror three sees his son as the alleged and
cannot wait to punish him, however, the prejudice he has against the alleged criminal urges juror
three to take action as quickly as possible and votes a persistent guilty verdict. Throughout the play,
juror three is seen as an old, bitter man who makes his decisions based on his son and not his own
conscience. When he is a part of the jury, he has the chance to be fair and reasonable, which he
passes up the opportunity. He [feels] that knife going in when he talks about his son and how he

between what it means to be a man and what it means to be a person. Locke then goes on to say
that for a man to be the same man over time, it is necessary for that man s body to persist over

Economic Effects Of Legalizing Marijuana
The legalization of marijuana has been a large topic in recent years. The big question, to legalize
or not to legalize? I will be focusing on the economic aspect of marijuana legalization in order to
answer the question Do the economic effects of marijuana provide cause to legalize it? Source:
Hudson, P. (2013, April 1). Is legalizing weed food for the us economy? Retrieved from http:/
/elitedaily.com/news/business/legalizing weed good economy/ My first source is an article
written back in 2013, right after the legalization of marijuana was passed in Colorado. It mentions
that $7.7 billion was being spent annually on the prohibition of marijuana. It projected $47 million

There are a couple economic pros, but there are no economic cons, those are instead almost all
health related. This is what I ve been discovering throughout much of my research. It s rather
easy to find economic benefits, but there is really no cons. I found this page through a google
search in hopes of finding at least one actual economic con, even if the source, like this one,
wasn t scholarly. Source: Hajizadeh, M. (2016). Legalizing and regulating marijuana in canada:
review of potential economic, social, and health impacts. International Journal of Health Policy
and Management. 453 356 doi: 10.15171/ijhpm.2016.63 This article talks about all the possible
benefits that could occur if Canada were to legalize the use of marijuana. Most of this article
looks at all the benefits occurring throughout the united states, and brings in many examples
from Colorado, the state that has had legalized marijuana the longest. This article looks to
Colorado as an example of what kind of things could happen in Canada, such as a large tax
revenue, saving tax revenue on prohibition, and using that money to help improve things such as
schools in order to keep a positive aspect around it. I discovered this article through both google
scholar and the business source complete section in the online library. I thought it would be a good
article to help answer my question because it is a scholarly source that shows that the economic
benefits occurring are already a cause for other countries to want to legalize

Monsanto Vs Us
The differences found in the social report between the two companies could be explained by the
different views between the US and EU concerning to GOM According to Library of Congress
(n.d) compared to other countries, regulation of GMOs in the US is relatively favourable to their
development. GMOs are an economically important component of the biotechnology industry,
which now plays a significant role in the US economy. For example, the US is the world s leading
producer of genetically modified crops. This explains, why Monsanto Company makes more
emphasis on improving their biotechnology and teach it to future generations, while EU establishes
a strict monitoring of GM products for marketing in regard to the requirement of mandatory
labelling rules. On the other hand, in the United States the issue of GMOs are promoted as a
benefit for the population and the environment, while in the European Union, biotechnology has
been viewed as a new process that requires large regulators by the European Food Safety Authority.
It would be the reason because Syngenta s report is focusing on issues related to make crops more
efficient and to help farmers meet new emissions requirements, to produce more food while
reducing their environmental footprint.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Midfielder And Siddhartha
Time itself is a never ending cycle, however; our time as humans on Earth is finite. Both
Siddhartha by Herman Hesse and If God Existed, He d Be A Solid Midfielder by Aleksandar

time. Although each reading incorporates characters that experience moments of unease, losing a
touch of their passion and goals, their interpretation of time differs; Hesse portrays time linearly

accustomed to that routine for years until the games stopped occurring. Hemon perceived time on
a weekly base, looking forward to his fixated schedule; slight deviation of schedule gave him
anxiety. Even in his absence, time will continue on, pick up soccer games will continue to happen
and those willing to attend will be present there. The notion that time is circular can also be seen in
the story as well, after immigrating to Chicago he went years without playing

A Woman Who Was A Girl
Once upon a time there was a woman who was unexpectedly pregnant. She had big brown eyes,
short hair, and her physique was slim since she lived in the gym and practiced for volleyball.
Even though the little seed in the woman s stomach was not planned, her parents were overly
excited for another child. They already had two of their own to take care of but were ready for
another challenge. A couple months into the pregnancy, they were shocked to know the child was a
girl. They had two boys before that and thought they would have another one. Her parents did not
know what to name their first daughter, but her motherthought of Alinali, which many could not
pronounce one bit. On the other hand, her father thought of something simple, like Nicole.
Every day after she was born, her parents cherished her and their other two sons. They showed
unconditional love on a daily basis and always gave an abundant number of hugs and kisses. Three
years went by when Nicole and her siblings had one more addition to the family. Sadly, things
began to change. Her parents had struggled financially and were extremely stressed. Looking for
ways to help the family, both parents worked assiduously to bring money to the table, and that is
why her mother applied for a side job at a hotel. Injuring her back at her first job, which had dealt
with cars, her mother could not work no longer, so all the responsibility was left on the father. They
managed and were still very thankful, but the mother s

Ccr And Dna Isolation Lab Report
PCR and DNA isolation methods are commonly practiced everyday in research labs. In this
experiment, these techniques were practiced to amplify a region of the CCR5 DNA sequences
and isolate them on a gel in order to compare the differences between two types of CCR5 gene as
well as to determine which CCR5 gene do students have. The results showed that most, if not all of
the students have the WT CCR5 gene, which makes sense because only 10 20% of the Caucasian
population has the mutated CCR5 gene.
Introduction CCR5 gene encodes a receptor protein on the white blood cells that is involved in
the entry of many forms of HIV virus into the cell. As of today, an estimated 10 20% of the
Caucasian population possesses a mutated copy of CCR5 gene, which is also called CCR5 ∆32.

Data and Observation Figure 1. The left side of 2% agarose gel showed the Bioneer 25/100bp

The Use Of Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sports
The use of performance enhancing drugs to help athletes perform better is illegal and
considered cheating as this drug gives the athlete who may have been an average performer an
edge over the competition after the use of these drugs. This is unfair to the other players who
are playing a fair game. No matter at what level whether its high school, college or a
professional, athletes should not be using drugs to help or boost their performance in any way
as it wrong and the athlete is basically cheating his way to the top. No doubt that drugs/HGH
may help the player s vitality and even reduce injury time but the serious side effects of
prolonged use is still unknown and is still cheating since it s not legal as not every player is taking
it to make it a fair game.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And like Charles Barkley suggests in the video you have to be an idiot to be on drugs now as you
know you are more likely to be caught because of the more stringent drug tests that players are
subjected to. When big names get caught being on drugs it sends a wrong message to the
younger athletes as the stars they have been idolizing all long got that way by the use of drugs. In
my opinion, subjecting athletes to periodic drug testing is the right way as it will help send the
message that cheating your way to the top is not an option and will help reduce the number of
cases of younger athletes getting lured by the easy way to

William Pitt s Influence On British Involvement During...
William Pitt was born in the United Kingdom in 1708 to a distinguished and wealthy family. After
returning from school Pitt joined the military, he was stationed in Northampton during a time of
peace. During this time Pitt was frustrated due to the lack of British involvement in the War of the
Polish Succession. He blamed the current prime minister, Robert Walpole, for Britain s lack of
involvement and this is when Pitt was first starting to develop his harsh ideas on the current
British government and its leaders. However, his military career was redirected when in 1735 Pitt
entered parliament. He was a member of a faction of parliament known as the Patriot Whigs, led
by Lord Cobham. Pitt quickly grew close to Cobham and became a... Show more content on

This gained Pitt a reputation for putting the country s interests over his own. Around 8 years after
Pitt gained the title of paymaster general, Henry Pelham died, leaving the Duke of Newcastle to
take over as PM. After Newcastle s refusal to elect Pitt as the leader of the house of commons,
Pitt began attacking Newcastle, this went on for almost an entire year before Pitt was dismissed
from his position in November 1755. This did not stop Pitt from leading a charge against
Newcastle, and with the public on Pitt s side, Newcastle was eventually forced to resign in 1756.
However, after gaining and losing his power again in 1576 as Secretary of State, Pitt formed a
coalition with Newcastle in order to fill a position of leadership Britain was currently lacking.
During this time in his life Pitt showed how he can influence the public greatly but is also able to
compromise if it led to an end goal that was favorable for him. (Mclynn Pg95 99, Black Ch4) The
Seven Years War gave Pitt his opportunity to put his military strategies to work. His strategy was
based around reviving the militia, making the navy stronger and creating a coherent war policy. In
addition, he helped other countries, such as Prussia, become stronger. This led to Pitt making his
allies stronger and his opponents overwhelmed. Pitt s strategy was extremely successful and led to
numerous victories in both North America and Europe. Unfortunately for

All miniature pigs, micro pigs, Viennese potbellied pigs or teacup pigs are a type of breed that
was developed for either medical research or used as a pet. Minipig has become an acceptable
term that is used to distinguish the difference between livestock swine and smaller breeds such as
potbellied pigs or Juliana pigs. Miniature pigs have become incredibly popular as pets in the United
States.

Athens And Spart Sparta
Athens and Sparta are two rivals of ancient Greece. Athenians and Spartans lived their lives
different, and they valued different things. Athenians and Spartans had an Assembly, whose
members were elected by the people. Sparta were ruled by two kings, those two kings either ruled
until they were died or forced out of office. Athenswere ruled by archons, they were elected
annually. Athens in the birthplace of democracy. Spartans focused on war and obedience. Young
boys were trained to be warriors. Young women were trained to be mothers and warriors.
Athenians could get good education and could pursue several kinds of arts or sciences. For many
years Spartan armies provided much defense of the Greek lands. The Spartans bravery and
courage at the Battle of Thermopylae during the Persians Wars, inspired all of Greece to fight back
with all their might against the invading Persians. Athenians and Spartans fought side by side in
the Battle of Platea , which ended the Persians invasions of Greece. Spartans provided assistance
for Greece when necessary. Athenians wanted to control land around them. That led to war between
all the Greeks, this was the Peloponnesian War . After many years of fighting the Spartans won. In
Greek spirit Spartarefused to burn the city of Athens. The culture and spirit of Athens was
allowed to live on, as long as Athenians no longer desired to rule Greek. Athens is the capital and
largest city of Greece. Sparta is known as Sparti in Greek. Sparta is

Social Media Addiction And Internet Addiction
Relationship between Social Media Addiction and Internet Privacy: Informal community clients can
share diverse bits of individual data with others; in any case, these subtle elements might be abused
by companions. Net and Acuity s review (2005) of Facebook clients protection concerns found that
91 percent of clients uploaded their photos, 88 percent shared their date of birth, 40 percent
demonstrated their telephone number, and 51 percent composed their present address. Sharing
individual data, for example, this can lead to abuse of information, regardless of whether purposeful
or not. For instance, a few people share profile subtle elements such as their full name, sexual
orientation and telephone number with their companions (Wills Zeljkovic., 2011). On the off
chance that the informal community account of one of the client s companions is hacked, the
spammer or the programmer can abuse these points of interest to blackmail the client (Rosenblum
2007). The capacity to control protection alternatives is basic to expanding the clients trust in their
interpersonal organization suppliers. Since Internetclients speak to a scope of various societies and
ages, protection alternatives ought to be clear, basic and simple to utilize. Clients must be able to
control their protection choices whenever. These protection alternatives enable clients to
acknowledge or dismiss the scattering of their data to others. For instance, a few clients would

Games Design As Narrative Architecture By Henry Jenkins
Narrative research
Introduction
Games and story, which on opposite sides of the interactivity. After reading a paper named Games
Design as Narrative Architecture by Henry Jenkins, I think controlling the balance of gameplay and
storytelling is important to game designers if they want to design a game with narrative. For this
essay I will be analysing two completely different examples, focusing on their narrative and
gameplay in order to explain this issue. In addition to this, I will also provide some games I have
played and combine the theories in this paper and other books to analyse their different ways to
create immersive narrative experience in the game.
What is narrative? Confliction of narrative and gameplay
Narrative, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Storytelling is one of the most important forms of play indeed (Crawford, 2013), however not
every player would like to read story in games, they enjoy the process of achieving goal, too much
narrative even can be experienced as an unwelcome interruption (Jenkins, 2004). In order to avoid
this situation, game designer should using environmental storytelling in various ways to build a
game space which full of narrative. So players can enjoy the game itself and narrative in same time.
Here is an example, which is not positive but can demonstrate the importance of keeping balance
of game and narrative. Ensemble Star is a Japanese smartphone game, which I have played for
one year. Its narrative is completely attractive and impressed, however, its experience of
gameplay is very inconspicuous. Players only need to read stories, spend money to get cards and
collect items to strengthen their cards. Players can make some choices, but their choices cannot
cause serious consequences to the overall stories. So strictly speaking, I think it is not a game but
a novel with interactive function. Yet, its Chinese version add some game mechanics and blend
into game story, which makes this interactive novel more like a game. For example, every
character have their back stories. In Japanese version, players only can tap stories button to read.
But in Chinese

Carrie Chapman Catt Address To Congress Essay
Rhetorical Analysis Essay on Carrie Chapman Catt s Address to Congress Carrie Lane Chapman
Catt not only stood her ground in front of the men representing this country, but the people of the
country. Catt may not have the highest status among the men she addressed, but she did have a
mature position in the fight for women s rights. The women of this country, along with Catt, were
in an uproar and wanted to have a say in the person that would soon be the one responsible for their
national security. In her address to Congress, Catt employs the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos,
and logos to create a convincing case for the civil rights for the women across America. Her name
was not high in government, but high in the fight that women across the country were involved in
one way or another. Carrie Lane Chapman Catt was a leader, along with Susan B. Anthony, who
campaigned for the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Her role in this civil
war led her to be a member of the National American WomanSuffrage Association (NAWSA) and
the American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA).

have to face the pain that some men emotionally out them through. Yes, some of those men went
home and talked to their wives about who to vote for, but not all of them did, or they did and

mechanism through which racialized America is still maintained holding people of African
American and Hispanic origin in confinement for years irrespective of the fact whether there are

There is no doubt that his crossing over has definitely provided him with a middle class
perspective on the world around where he can see his progression from the stagnant world of the
underclass into a middle class world which is full of opportunities and prospects. However, we
need to be alert to the fact that his perception of the underclass world is not prejudiced or
unnecessarily biased as one can see in the case of Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby can be seen
representing the lot of those who have crossed over; those who have risen up the socio
economic ladder with a typical black middle class mentality which is apathetic and indifferent to
the people hanging at the lower rung of the society. His is an attitude which Michael Eric Dyson
calls Afristocracy where the black elite blame the black poor for all the things that go wrong in
the black world, and curse them for not doing enough for a better life. Whereas John Edgar
Wideman despite his earlier flight from the ghetto life and the demons his brother Robby

characteristic of Afristocracy. His is a self that is very much

  • 2. The Freedom Riders Essay Nearly 200 years ago, after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, slavery was no longer allowed; but America was still segregated. Segregation in many public places continued especially in the South. At this time, segregation was legal. In 1892, the Supreme Court had ruled that a state could separate whites and blacks as long as the services were equal. On May 4, 1961, a diverse group of thirteen courageous individuals known as the Freedom Riders embarked on a bus journey into the South in order to challenge segregation in bus terminals. Although many individuals believed that segregation was wrong, many southern states continued to practice racial segregation. Racial segregation is the separation of humans into racial groups... Parks said that she was tired of giving in. The police arrested Parks who was later released on bail. Rosa Parks became a symbol for the Civil Rights Movement by refusing to give up her seat and go to the back of the bus (Rosa Parks Biography). Although there had been a ruling by the Interstate Commerce Commission that blacks could sit wherever they wanted on buses that traveled through more than one state and the Supreme Court had ruled that segregation on buses was unconstitutional, blacks continued to face difficulties when riding buses in the Deep South. There were signs in southern bus terminals indicating areas where blacks were to sit. Separate restrooms were to be used by whites and blacks. In order to test these rulings and draw attention to the Civil Rights Movement, a decision was made to conduct Freedom Rides. A group of whites and blacks would challenge these practices (Freedom Riders). Those who wanted to be members of this initial group were asked to complete an application, include a recommendation from a teacher or pastor, and write an essay about their commitment to the civil rights movement. Those under the age of twenty one had to have parent permission. Several dozen applications were received. • 3. The Second Tradition of Thanksgiving Essay When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount of food. Others might think of the time spent with family and friends. The whole basis of the holiday is family togetherness, fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year. Every family has their own unique way of spending time together with loved ones only seen during the holidays. In the Stock home, there is only one thing we enjoy doing. Sure, like every other family we have our grand and elaborate dinner, which is composed of all the greatest delicacies my mother and grandmother can whip up. Of course, as is expected, ... After all a truly intelligent mind could be playing video games or running around endlessly with your cousins playing your own football games and other sports. I followed this train of thought for many Thanksgivings, until the point when I realized that I did not have an inextinguishable amount of energy any more, and that I could not be part of that much physical activity without feeling as old as my father the next morning. So after weighing these problems, I realized that the men in my immediate family and I should really consider spending time with family members we do not see on a regular basis. I have never been particularly close with any one in my extended relation, so I figured what better way strengthen my relationship with my family than to share in this excellent tradition. (Stock) I sat with these guys and started discussing actual topics, more than Hey, how you doing? and ending the conversation there. I realized I have a lot more interesting relatives with similar interests than I expected. So, after a few quarters and a lot of snacks we lay back and relax from that stuff in turkey. It is unbelievable how many snacks a stuffed person can eat even after a huge dinner. While watching a football game a full stomach does not register. • 4. Music Therapy Use For Autism Spectrum Disorder Music Therapy Use for Autism Spectrum Disorder According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a serious neurodevelopmental disorder that impairs a child s ability to communicate and interact with others (Mayo Clinic, 2014). Individuals who suffer from this disorder are often hindered by behaviors that keep them from properly functioning in their everyday lives. It is hard for a child with autismto form and maintain relationships with family and friends since they are lacking the proper behavioral skills to do so. When a child is diagnosed with ASD, three crucial areas of development are affected: verbal and nonverbal communication, behavior, and social interaction. Since there is no known cause or cure for this disorder, early treatment methods, such as music therapy, can be used to make a huge difference in the lives of the children with ASD. Using music therapy for children with ASD involves a board certified music therapist working with autistic children to explore the benefits that music can have on their behavior, communication, and development of social skills. Children who are diagnosed with ASD have many treatment types available to them. Most of these treatment options are centered on the development of the autistic children s social and behavioral skills, which can help them achieve as normal of a life as possible. Without treatment, most children with ASD will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nucleic acid is a macromolecule that stores and communicate genetic energy. There are six major nucleotides and it is made of carbon nitrate, oxygen, phosphorus, and hydrogen. In living organisms there are two types of nucleic acids called deoxyribonucleic acid and ribonucleic acid. DNA and RNA in the nucleic acids bonds into the phosphate of another nucleotide. ATP stores energy in a storehouse and it could only be used by cells in a variety of reactions. ATP releases energy when the second and the third phosphate group is broken. Between The World And Me Independent Reading Project Quarter Two: Between the World and Me Summary Inspired by James Baldwin s 1963 classic The Fire Next Time, Ta Nehisi Coates Between the World and Me powerfully educates readers on what it means to be African American in the United States today. It is formatted as a letter to his son, Samori, at the age of fifteen. It s intention being to help him through navigate the world as a young African Americanmale. He does this through sharing personal experiences and analyzing current events, with regards to historical context. By communicating his ideas in this format, he is uniquely able to more broadly depict the concept of racism in America. Where both memoirs and textbooks fall short, Between the World and Me does not. Object 1 Dollar Bill (significant concept) The first object I chose is a one dollar bill. Currency blatantly represents wealth, that which Coates describes as coming from the oppression of another. It is also used as a form of payment, showing the price paid by 250 years of people born into slavery. Lastly, with George Washington inscribed on the front and In God... • 15. Creating A Blue Ocean Strategy According to Michael Porter, a company strategist who understands that competition extends well beyond existing rivals will detect wider competitive threats and be better equipped to address them (Porter, 2008, p.16). Thinking comprehensively about the structure of the industry as well as its customers can afford companies the ability to obtain superior performance. Therefore, it is key for companies to focus on how to maintain existing customers as well as lure new ones. Three tiers of non customers As we have learned from our readings, to create a blue ocean strategy means to reach out to untapped market space, demand creation, and the opportunity for highly profitable growth (Kim Mauborgne, 2005, p.4). These blue ocean strategies can exist beyond existing industries/markets or they can be expanded upon in existing markets (red oceans). Either way, companies need to go beyond competing (p.5). To do so companies should identify and attract non customers. The three tiers of non customers identify different level of non customers companies can attract to convert them into new customers. We will discuss these non customers as it applies to the Apple IPhone. The first tier non customers are those smartphone users that are curious about the IPhone and interested in possible switching. The launch of the IPhone 5 was geared towards two sets of buyers; existing customers and first tier non customers. Both sets were disappointed with the previous IPhones screen sizes. The ... Question How would the implementation of a structured recess program affect the number of behavior referrals during intermediate recess? Introduction The goal of this action research project is to determine if a structured recess program would decrease aggressive behavior on the playground which in turn would decrease the number of behavior referral forms that would have to be written up. There is a growing problem in our schools; children do not know how to play during recess time. Children are spending more and more time in front of the television, video games, or other sedentary non play activities. They are not learning how to play properly with other children and are coming to school not knowing what to do during recess time (Patrick, 1996). As they inter school it is now the schools job to teach the students how to correctly interact while playing at recess. Recess needs to be the fourth R taught by school (Pellegrini, Bohn, 2005). Putting students on the a playground for recess time when they do not know how to play and interact with other students will only lead to boredom and inappropriate behavior. • 17. Disability, Health, And Health Care Of The African... Disability: When it comes to disabilities, causation, health and health care in the African American community, much of their beliefs around receiving treatment piggybacks on their values and beliefs in religion and spirituality, including traditional health practices such as healers and Root doctors (Goode, Jones, Jackson 168), as well as believing in karma, folk tales, faith and destiny. While some African Americancommunity members may see a child being born with a disability to be a blessing, representing the family s emotional strength, as well as being a blessing from god for the child is seen as special, many others view a child having a disability as an evil act or a punishment from God, or other higher beings, for family sins (Goode, Jones, Jackson 170). Many African Americans also embrace the scientific, medical and genetic explanation of disabilities. However, depending on the various beliefs causing disabilities in the community, different actions are taken in order to treat the child. While their is no scientific cure for some disabilities, many African Americans may turn to indigenous practices such as calling upon root doctors to break spells and release the body and mind from any evil, or trying natural herbal remedies. Furthermore, many religious African American s turn to God to heal their child. • 18. Themes in The Invisible Man by H.G Wells The Invisible Man has many possible themes. There are multiple examples of different themes in the novel. Most of them can almost fall under the same idea. The main theme for the novel is how excessive greed can have unintended consequences. The main character, Griffin, goes mad with the power of being invisible. It gets to the point that he is not even trying to just stay hidden anymore, he is just trying to cause as much mayhem in the country as possible. One of the first instances of greed is when he starts to take advantage of Mrs. Hall, the woman who owns the Coach Horses Inn. Mrs. Hall mainly feels bad for him at first because she thinks he is very hurt or injured in some sort of way due to him wrapping his head up. Griffin keeps... • 19. Irony In Ballad Of Birmingham In the Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall, the story focuses around an African American girl who wants to go march in downtown Birmingham so that she in contributing to the protest for freedom. Her mother refuses to let her young girl go due to the horrible violence that it entitles. Instead of going to the march, the mothersends her innocent child to church instead thinking that she would be safer there than in Birmingham. What are the odds that her daughter died in church and not at the march? Nothing bad could happen, right? The single most key element that shapes the entire meaning on the poem is the irony in the situation that actually took place in 1963. Though she begged but, mother, I won t be alone, / other children will go with me (Randall 9 10), the girl s mother would not allow her child to be put in the face of danger. The freedom marches were anything but pleasant because like the mother says, I fear those guns will fire (Randall 14). • 20. Queen Elizabeth Patriarchy Essay There are many women over the ages that would be called feminist. Those would be the women (and even men) that stood up and face the oppressors of women s rights head on, but the backed justice to have an open dialogue has only been around for about a hundred years. Before that time you were likely to be imprisoned or killed. To get around this patriarchy, women like Queen Elizabeth and Elizabeth Cary, borrowed the old poetic device of allegory. The argument I m going to present is that these women, through their allegories, helped paved the way for women s rights and political power. Born in 1533, Elizabeth I came into the world with a promise and blessings. Shakespeare would later put prophetic words into her grandfather s mouth saying, This royal infant heaven still move about her / though in her cradle, yet now promises. / Upon this land a thousand... When she wrote the poem, The Doubt of Future Foes, it is clear that Mary, The daughter of debate (Elizabeth I, 134), her half sister, was the main focus, but I also feel it was written to others within her count that whispered tales of uprising. I have two areas of support. The first was that she, Elizabeth, made the poem public for all to see. If it was just for her half sister, why not just give it to just her. No, I feel she was making a political statement here. She was showing her authority, and perhaps knowledge of ill plots that surrounds her. The second comes from one line in the poem. Their struggle to claim the freedoms and equalities outlined in the constitution was a daunting task. Both parties clung to myths that African Americans had been irresponsible with the freedoms provided to them by the Emancipation Proclamation and the Amendments to the Constitutional. • 22. The Old British Empire s Influence On Modern Museums Essay The sun never sets on the British Empire is a phrase that is known all too well in regards to British Imperialism and colonization spanning over Africa, Asia, North America, Australia, and Europe. Over the years, England in particular, has had a major influence across the world as a global superpower by sharing its own technology, culture, religion and more. But as much as they have shared, they have also taken to enrich their own society with artifacts, designs, foods, and other aspects of the foreign culture. This dynamic between Great Britain and each colonized country has immensely shaped modern British museums by expanding the content in museums as it relates to imperialism, diversifying the artifacts collected from other countries, and the influences it has had on British society shown through museums collections. The old British Empires influence on modern museums also raised many issues for contemporary curators and audiences concerning museums glorifying imperialism, the ethically of keeping these collected artifacts, and if the museums have a subtle underlying imperialistic bias. To understand why imperialism is such a prominent theme in British museums it is important to understand the history of British Imperialism in the first place. In the 15th and 16th centuries Portugal and Spain were leading imperialist powers, sailing the seas and discovering new land and becoming wealthier from the treasures these places held. • 27. Dehumanization Of Boarding Schools Kill the Indian in him, and save the man. That was the motto of government established boarding schools for Native Americans on the western frontier. These schools were a cruel and dehumanizing attempt at assimilating native culture with that of the European white man. By enrolling Native American children in these schools, they were susceptible to new diseases brought from Europe, such as tuberculosis and the flu, which the natives had never encountered and resulted fatal. Little Indian boys who prided themselves in their long hair were forced to cut it off and exchanged their given names for white names. Since Indian children were forced to speak only English, some schools went so far as to punish whomever spoke in their native language. These schools had good intentions, they offered nursing, education, and more opportunities to grow in the new society than the Indians would otherwise ever receive, yet that gift was not requested by the native peoples. By killing off Native Americans, making them resign aspects of their culture, and forcing them to switch to the European language, government boarding schools completely replaced the culture of Indians by means of cruel and dehumanizing procedures.
