Identifying Covalent, Ionic And Hydrogen Bonds
After completing the lab, we will be able to identify covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen
bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it occurs between
hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole dipole bond. A
dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that the bond between
hydrogen and oxygen in a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of covalent bond is the bond
between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we will observe is solubility, the
lab mentions. An example, of an ionic bond is NaCl, this is an ionic bond because the Na+ and Cl , the
sodium atom (cation) gives a pair of electrons to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A water molecule is able to interact with up to four other water molecules to create a tetrahedral. The
second part of the lab, we will be observing cohesion and adhesion theories. Cohesion is when water
molecules stick to each other and adhesion is the occurrence of water molecules sticking to other
molecules. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water on a piece of parafilm;
we will be looking for if they water will be stuck together or did it spread apart, we will be explaining
our observations. We will then, repeat the same experiment, however instead of parafilm we will use a
glass slide; we will try to compare cohesion between the water molecules and the adhesion between
the water and glass slide. After, we are done pipetting the water and observing, we will then
demonstrate what happened in the pipette part (both the parafilm and the glass slide) of the experiment
using the 12 water molecules and the non magnetic tray. The third part of the experiment consists of

Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via...
Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene
Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin
remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with
inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition,
learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene
are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive
correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try to
develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF.
Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation may
be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and H3
methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible
mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation
machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating cycle
that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might have begun
to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. I hypothesize
that it is possible to prevent hypermethylation and hyperacetylation

Transcendentalism Of Thoreau And Walden
The 19th century was a time of social change and enlightenment that sent ripples of influence into
many aspects of the American culture, including art and literature. Prominent figures such as Thoreau
and Cole emerged. Thoreau was a philosopher and writer whose works such as Walden lead the
literary evolution of Transcendentalism. Similarly, Cole, a, was a founding figure in the fledgling art
movement called the Hudson River School. Both men were shaped by the same influence of a rapidly
transforming society, and from this environment they expressed similar beliefs in areas such as anti
industrialization. This antagonism towards industrialization was balance by their reverence towards
nature; mankind was viewed as infinitesimal in comparison. The animosity for industrialization
combined with respect for nature also lead to Cole and Thoreau s support towards the preservation of

In the Housewarming chapter of Walden, Thoreau portrayed nature as an all powerful force that could
easily cut [our] threads any time with a sharper blast from the North. Thoreau is alluding to the Three
Fates of Greek mythology. The Three Fates were omnipotent figures who has complete power over
mankind: they weave and create the threads of men s lives, but also had complete jurisdiction to cut,
and end, the life threads. By comparing nature to the Three Fates, Thoreau credited nature with power
akin to that of a god. Cole expressed similar views in his painting The Oxbow. In the painting, Cole
depicted himself sitting atop the hill of wilderness. However, his figure was painted as a mere speck in
comparison to the awe inspiring grandness of the nature around him. This juxtaposition of scale
comments upon man s place in the universe, that we are all subordinate to the whims of nature. This is

Introduction
The objective of this lab is to find the relationship between tensile stress and strain for various
materials. The Stress Strain Apparatus stretches (and in some cases breaks) a test coupon while it
measures the amount of stretch and force experienced by the test coupon. Software is used to generate
a plot of stress versus strain, which allows Young s Modulus, the elastic region, the plastic region, the
yield point, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The displacement registered by the Rotary Motion Sensor will be the combination of the coupon
stretching and the rest of the apparatus bending. Regardless of how much the coupon stretches, the
deformation of the rest of the apparatus is constant for a given force. After repetitive measurement
with the calibration bar it was found that the movement of force sensor is negligible compared to the
stretching of the sample, hence the calibration step is not required.
Procedure
1. When installing coupons, remove the nuts and the clamp and place it at secure place, it is not
needed for composite material testing. The coupon should be slid completely over the coupon holding
screws on each end.

Cause And Effects Of Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was the most horrific natural disasters in 2009. It was one of the most deadly
disasters since 1928. In 1928 the hurricane that shocked everyone by having many fatalities was
hurricane Okeechobee that hit Florida. Since hurricane Okeechobee Florida hadn t experienced a
hurricane like that one until hurricane hit in 2009. Hurricane Katrina was considered a category level
five hurricane, which is the highest number of category levels for a hurricane. Only 3 category five
level hurricanes have ever hit the United States. Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Katrina being two out
of the three to ever hit the United States. For the hurricane Irma that took place in 2017 (this year) that
most of us are familiar with, although it was a category five level, America was far more aware and
prepared for hurricane Irma that for hurricane Katrina that accord in 2009. For hurricane Katrina sadly
America wasn t prepared, therefore they didn t warn the people of Louisiana that their was a category
five level hurricane a going to hit, sadly many those from Louisiana and those states new by where left
in shock and left to find out for themselves how horrific and disasters this monster hurricane was
going too be. A numerous amount of people were not able to evacuate due to lack of transportation
and no funds, which caused more people to stay behind and get sick/die. The total number of deaths
due to the devastating hurricane Katrina was 1,836 and which also includes 1577 deaths in

Set Out To Synthesize 2-Methyl-4-T
This experiment set out to synthesize 2 methyl 4 heptanone from the supplied starting materials
containing four carbons. During week one, 1 chloro 2 methylpropane was reacted with magnesium to
form the Grignard reagent. The Grignard was then reacted with butanal to produce 2 methyl 4
heptanol. Using IR spectroscopy, the success or failure of the formation of the alcohol was observed,
concluding week one. During week two, 2 methyl 4 heptanol was oxidized in order to form our
desired product of 2 methyl 4 heptanone. Both a GC and IR spectroscopy were observed in order to
determine the presence of a newly formed ketone. The results of our experiment from the IR taken
during week one showed no formation of an alcohol. The GC and IR spectroscopy ... Show more

Instead, the GC and IR spectroscopy showed the presence of an aldehyde, as opposed to the desired
product of a ketone. The failure of this experiment was likely caused by a null reaction between 1
chloro 2 methylpropane and magnessium, leading to no, or very little, Grignard reagent being formed.
The mixture between the 1 chloro 2 methylpropane and magnessium was conducted over an extended
time period with exessive amounts of reagent used in order to attempt to push the reaction forward.
However, it is believed that these extreme tactics lead to a false positive in the formation of the
Grignard reagent and produced negative repercussions down the line when further experimentation
was conducted. The data obtained by the IR spectroscopy from the conclusion of week one supports
this theory. The presence of a carbonyl group, with an intensity of 72.40%, and no measurable
formation of alcohol were observed. The oxidation of 2 methyl 4 heptanol can neither be deemed a
success, nor a failure, due to it not existing in any measurable rate within our final product from week
one. However, the mixture still underwent the oxidation process in an attempt to produce any
possibility of the desired product. Using IR spectroscopy, the resulting data from the oxidation
appeared very similar to that of the IR spectroscopy data from week one, with a slightly lower
intensity of the carbonyl group at 66.89%. The GC performed on the final product mixture revealed
this carbonyl group to be an aldehyde, as previously

Moreover, each season reveals a mysterious and often terrible secret like for example murder that,
throughout the storyline, could not be hidden under the surface anymore. Mary Alice Young (Brenda

ironic allusions throughout each episode. The above mentioned composition of both thrilling and
touching drama and ironical comedy makes it such a successful series, which consists of seven
seasons at the moment. 2.2 The Opening Credits After an idea by Marc Cherry and finally having been
produced by a company named yU+co , the approximately 40 seconds long spot concerns a
composition of various more or less famous pieces of art that are shown in a rapid succession. They

Illegal Immigration, the Drain on the U.S. Economy
The amount of money that comes out of your pocket for schooling, incarceration, jobs lost, and
maintaining the medical system in the United States because of illegal immigrants may be more than
people know. During the past few decades, the influx of illegal immigrants has risen dramatically.
Illegal immigrants put a huge strain on our school systems, commit a disproportionate amount of
crimes in this country and have taken many jobs that American citizens unemployed could do. The
economic drain on the school systems is growing rapidly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is stated by many politicians that the illegals only take the jobs that American citizens do not want.
With the guest worker program and the use of H 1B visas, businesses use these workers at a
significant lower rate of pay than they would have to pay a citizen. The number of H 1B visas issued
in 1992 was estimated at less than 100,000. By 2002 the number climbed to over 1 million (Wagner,
2007). This abuse of the working visa is absolutely legal by any company looking for workers that are
not citizens. The big business corporations are not looking to change this law as they would be out of
pocket a great deal more money in wages. Every single person in the United States will be touched by
the effects of illegals in this country at some point in their life. It may come in the form of a grocery
bill, auto insurance, property taxes, driver s license fees, hospital rates or many other areas. In the area
of healthcare, the influx of illegals has proven to put a huge burden in all areas of the system. In
California over the last decade many hospitals and emergency rooms have closed due to the illegals
being treated there and not being able to pay the bills from the hospital. Right now, California out of
the 50 states is last in the number of emergency rooms per million people (Jones, 2012, #6.). The

Branches of Government and UCC
BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT AND UCC 1.FLOWCHART OF BRANCHES OF
GOVERNMENT The government is a single term yet comprised of several different components that
collaborate to run the business of the country by making, stating, implementing and ensuring law. The
US government has three branches namely legislation, executive and judiciary (Three Branches of
Government, 2008). 2. DESIGNATE TWO UCC CLAUSES THAT ALIGN WITH EACH BRANCH
The term UCC stands for Uniform Commercial Code that was published in 1952 (Uniform
Commercial Code, 2013). The code tells how to correspond the sales law and other business and
commercial transactions in America. There are two clauses of codes that deal with each branch at one
level or the other: a. If the court as a matter of law finds the contract or any clause of the contract to
have been unconscionable at the time it was made the court may refuse to enforce the contract or it
may enforce the remainder of the contract without the unconscionable clause, or it may so limit the
application of any unconscionable clause as to avoid any unconscionable result (What Is the Uniform
Commercial Code (UCC)? n.a). b. When it is claimed or appears to the court that the contract or any
clause thereof may be unconscionable the parties shall be afforded a reasonable opportunity to present
evidence as to its commercial setting, purpose, and effect to aid the court in making the determination

The Origin Of The Bible Essay
After a number of years have passed through the church, one would wonder how we can be certain
that the right books make up the Bible. We have all of these translations and interpretations of
Scripture, but how did we get the Bible itself? These are the many questions that make up many non
believers and possibly even many non believers today as well. I can speak for many church goers on
the contrary, that have grown up in the church and they have not thought about the idea of the origin
of the Bible. Either way, Christian or atheist, it is important to understand the origin of one s beliefs.
This leads to the basis of the foundation of why a Christian believes the truth of God s word and then
is able to faith their faith with others. To begin our research, it is important to understand and define
some of the terms that are displayed throughout the text. First off, the origin of the word canon comes
from the Latin word canon. This was originally from the Greek word kanon. When translated into
English this word is referred to as a standard or type of rule that is found in 2 Corinthians 10:13 and
again in Galatians 6:16. It is important to note that when Paul is writing, he is not referring to the
canon of Scripture. This word came into be for the canon of scripture at a much later date when the
Christian church called kanon stood for the rule of faith and revealed truth. In the fourth century, the
church referred to the Scriptures of both the Old Testaments and the

The Effects Of Pesticides On The Coffee Industry On Coffee
Coffea commonly known as a coffee plant is the member of the Rubiaceae family (USDA 2015).
While there are various species of the coffee plant, Coffee Arabica and Coffee Canephora are mostly
grown. However, between them Coffee Arabica is considered to have greater quality and flavor. With
the increase in demand of coffee within coffee drinkers globally, coffee has successfully ensured its
place to become the world s second largest commodity. Brazil is known as the top manufacturer of
coffee followed by countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, and Ethiopia (USDA 2014). The
rising demand for coffee has augmented the dependence of the coffee industry on countries that grows
coffee. Using pesticides on coffee fields seemed to be an ultimate solution for farmers who were
hoping for maximum productivity of coffee. Pesticides are used in agriculture in order to protect
plants from fungal diseases, pests, insects that affect the growth of food crops. On the short run, using
pesticides has an advantage as it increases the production and the quality of coffee. However, pesticide
practices have negative issues on the environment, the quality and the amount of coffee manufactured,
and the health of the coffee drinkers and the farmers in the long run.
The agricultural practice that involves the usage of pesticides has contributed in the exploitation of the
environment. The consumption of pesticides in countries that grows coffee has increased rapidly over
the decades. For example,

Act 3 Vs Hamlet Movie Essay
The director that does the best job presenting act three is Kenneth Branagh. In Branagh s act threethe
tone of the movie is much more positive and the scenes are far more colorful than the other two
versions. The colorfulness does a better job of portraying act three since everybody other than Hamlet
is having funand not grieving the death of the king. This is where the other two versions aren t as
great. In those two interpretations, the film is darker and depressing which does not encompass what is
actually happening in the story.Branagh s depiction of Claudius is also a lot more superior and

Branagh s Hamlet is also greater than the other two since his Hamlet has more of a method to his
madness whereas Zeffirelli s does not. In Zeffireli and Olivier s interpretation of Hamlet, he is a lot
more abusive and aggressive towards the other characters; Zeffirelli s even goes as far to rape his
mother and almost have sex with her. Branagh s act three is superior in this aspect since Hamlet is not
a powerful man but is actually more of a coward and so portraying him physically abusing other
characters does not make any sense. Branagh s portrayal of the queen is also greater than the other
two. Gertrude has a lot more power in his version and is able to stand her ground against Hamlet; she
is also the only one not to have a sexual encounter with Hamlet. This makes Branagh s act three
greater because it is more realistic that the queen would be angry with Hamlet and stand up to him
rather than being submissive to him like the other two depictions. In this version Hamlet is much more
emotional. In the other two Hamlet rarely shows his

Indeed, equality in health care is far from perfect in America, there are a number of socio ecological

U.s. And Ireland Government Essay
U.S. and Ireland Government The overall organization of the U.S. and Irish government has a lot of

is similar in the way that they also have three branches of government which are the Executive,

there are many political parties while in the U.S. there are mainly only two. The Irish constitution
applies to the 32 counties in Ireland but in the United States it refers to the 50 states. In Ireland their
common law system is based on the English model and in the United States it s based on the English
common law. The United States and Irish government has many legislative powers in common, but
the difference would be between the offices. In the United States the Legislative Branch consists of
the congress which is made up of two houses. The vice president plays a role in one of the houses
which is the Senate. The Senate is based on equal representation, which allows 2 senators to be elected
from each state, making it a total of 100 Senators. The other house which is The House of

Women and Sports Essay
Women and Sports
As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question
arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it
has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male bodies
to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and female sports
clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity. When women
attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are traditionally male, the
intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where traditional social constructions
are tinkered with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are expected to be more passive than their male counterparts. When a woman participates in
sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is taking
time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is behaving
in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold to which she
is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the lines begin to blur.
Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner. Challenging these socially
constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women athletes, both in traditional and non
traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change.
Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies
were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure
skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes
competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a
rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while
technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute strength
contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women.

The Pros And Cons Of Tort Law
Within Tort Law it has been acclaimed by most, that UK courts are not in favour of negligent claims
brought against the police force. There is no doubt that a police officer owes a duty to protect the
public However, in many regards the police aren t found to be guilty to owe any such duty. The Tort of
negligence proclaims that one must be owed a duty of care to claim, otherwise negligence caused to
the claimant due to the conduct of the defendant, is held without regard. As stated in the Police Act
1964 The chief officer of police for any police area shall be liable in respect of torts committed by
constables under his direction
It was firstly suggested that the courts show willingness to invoke public policy principles of
immunity where certain groups of defendants were sued in negligence , to which the case facts in Hill
v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police [1988] will shine light on. Moreover, one may suggest that
the emergency services should be free to carry out their line of work without the conscious threat of
liability. If one was to act in such a way as that which threatened overriding liability, it is questionable
as to whether an officer would act in a defensive state of mind, as stated by Lord Keith in Hill .
It may well be considered that the courts specifically deny claims against the emergency services,
invoking public policy, as observed in Capital and Countries Bank plc v Hampshire CC [1997] and
John Munroe Ltd v London Fire and Civil Defence Authority Others [1997] . The fire brigade, like the
police force are too exempt on the grounds of no duty is owed to an individual if an emergency call is
not responded to.
Policy is essentially concerned with the notion of Duty of care and maybe considered the fourth
element required for a negligence claim, primarily used to disregard claims against the police.
The principles of duty of care are centred around the cases of Donoghue v Stevenson (1932) , Hill and
Caparo Industries PLC v Dickman [1990] .
The case of Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] has been instrumental to the foundations of Tort Law,
following the notion that since this case negligence has rapidly developed into the cornerstone of our
system for compensating

Orcas Should Not Be In Captivity
Splash! The loud noise of the majestic Orca. The beautiful creature known for swimming in the blue
oceans but instead they are trapped in a pool of despair and sadness just for our entertainment and
stuck in a routine of entertaining Americans who probably are not smart enough to know about Orcas.
However do people think it is right to lock them up in this way? Over the years these poor creatures
have been stuck in a routine they simply do not like. Animals should be free not locked up and this is
disgusting, evil and it is cruel. All though some people think it can bring money into the aquarium
industry or aquariums can educate children but I think it is extremely evil. One reason why I think
Orcas should not be in captivity is that their attitude towards humans dramatically changes when kept
in captivity and can result in deadly dilemmas. Tilikum the whale broke SeaWorld trainer Dawn
Brancheau s jaw and wounded sections of her spine. Firstly the Orcas should not be in captivity
because they start to become more aggressive and frustrated. I mean how would you like it if ... Show

A escalating number of casualties, failed pregnancies plus early deaths. This shows when the Orcas
are in captivity they have a higher chance of developing serious health conditions. If they were not in
captivity they would not have these problems. Plus if these Orcas are being looked after surely they
would have less of a chance of having problems. Right? Wrong. This is saddening and vile and
without doubt wrong. Has this changed your opinion about Orca s now? A person like you would not
think Orca s in aquariums was a good idea. Surely SeaWorld should have some common sense
because look at the shocking results of the captivity, it results in deaths of babies. This is incredibly
upsetting and terrifying to know that these Orca s will have serious issues to their health. This is

Argumentative Essay On Breast Cancer
Cancer, a word that many cringe at when heard and one of the leading causes of death in the world.
The first recorded diagnosed case of cancer, was a case of Breast cancer found in the age of the
ancient Egyptians. Cancer has affected many of our lives, whether you have had cancer or one of your
friends or family members has been diagnosed with some form of cancer. When cancer was
discovered in the days of the Ancient Egyptians, the only form of treatment was to remove the tumor.
While the Egyptians thought this was a valid form of treatment, there was no cure for the disease. As
the years progressed and the world s knowledge in the medical field continued to expand a cure could
not be found. Many different forms of treatments were tested, and while some proved to be effective
there was way of curing the patient for good, of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of them, scared of how their bodies will react to the treatments today, but also relieved that their
doctors were able to find the disease and start treatments. These patients know that when they are
finished with their treatments and the cancer is gone that they will be cancer free but not cured.
Knowing that even though they might be cancer free when the treatments are finished, there is still the
possibility that the cancer can return, making it very hard for some of these patients to keep going to
their treatment appointments. Without a known cure for cancer, these patients live with the fear that
one day they could wake up and their cancer will be back and frequently when this happens, the
cancer returns in a form that is even worse than the first time. Everyone in the world has the
possibility of being diagnosed with a form of cancer, however the average person doesn t always think
about this fear. People who have already been diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life, live
with this fear every

Technical Feasibility: It is concerned with hardware and software feasibility. In this study, one has to
test whether the proposed system can be developed using existing technology or not. If new
technology is required ,what is the likely hood that it can be developed ? The organization for which
the system to be developed is not provided online services .Hence there is a requirement of new
hardware and software technology for the deployment of proposed system. As per client requirements

The United States And The American Revolution

In 1607, the thirteen colonies were founded. These colonies were classified into three different groups,
the New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. The states included in
these groups were New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New

In 1869, Africans were brought over to Jamestown, Virginia to work as slaves, and aid in the
production of important, popular crops such as tobacco and cotton. Throughout the years slavery
became more and more popular, until the Civil War put an end to it. Slavery had a severe impact on
the world, causing problems such as segregation, government corruption, wars, and excessive
violence. I chose this topic because I feel that it s an important event to learn about, despite the shame
or guilt most Americans feel for enslaving so many people.
The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments listed in the U.S Constitution. These ten amendments
include the freedom of speech and religion, the right to bear arms, and no quartering of soldiers. They
also include freedom from unfair arrests or searches, the right to due process of law, allowed public
and speedy trials, and the right of trial by jury in civil cases. Lastly, the Bill of Rights protected
citizens from unreasonable punishments, allowed other rights for the people, and ensured that power
was reserved to the states. Although this just briefly sums up the Bill of Rights, they played an
extremely important role in the foundation of America. Without them, the nation would have been
lawless and out of control. Without freedom of speech,

Pso Algorithm Is Developed By The Social Behavior Patterns...
3.3 PSO PSO algorithm is developed by the social behavior patterns of the organisms that exist and
interact within large groups. As, it converges at a faster rate than the global optimization algorithms,
the PSO algorithm is applied for solving various optimization problems easily. In the PSO technique, a
population called as a swarm of candidate solutions are encoded as particles in the search space.
Initially, PSO begins with the random initialization of the population. These particles move iteratively
through the D dimensional search space to search the optimal solutions, by updating the position of
each particle. During the movement of the swarm, a vector Xi=(Xi1, Xi2,...., XiD) represents the
current position of the particle i . Vi=(Vi1, Vi2,...., ViD) represents the velocity of the particle which is
in the range of [−vmax, vmax]. The best previous position of a particle is denoted as personal best
Pbest. The global best position obtained by the population is denoted as Gbest. The PSO searches for
the optimal solution by updating the velocity and position of each particle, based on the Pbest and
Gbest. The next position of the particle in the search space is calculated by using the new velocity
value. This process is repeated for a fixed number of times or until a minimum error is achieved. The
rate of the change in the velocity and position of the particle is given as v_id=v_id+c_1 r_1 (p_id x_id
)+c_2 r_2 (p_gd x_id ) (3.1) x_id=x_id+v_id (3.2) Where c_1

Persuasive Friendship
Who knew that switching lunches could change into 8 years of friendship? Well, small, insignificant
things can turn into big things. An example of that would be how my best friend and I met.
SUNNYVALE COMMUNITY CENTER, JULY 2OO9 I sat down on a cold hard cube shaped stone
slab, zipping open my blue and lavender Tinkerbell lunch box. Inside, wrapped in aluminum foil, was
the not so long awaited PB J, but instead of bread, there was a tortilla.A tortilla! Who does that?! Well,
it does taste good, but my mom gave it to me so much that I soon got tired of it. I sighed. The girl next
to me sighed a few seconds later. Why are you sad? she asked me inquisitively. My mom gave a PBJ
in a tortilla when I told her not to for the millionth time! I exclaimed, and maybe kind of exaggerated.
The problem was that I had been to so many summer camps before, and my mom always gave me the
same exact lunch. Oh, the girl shrugged, That sounds delectably good. I got the same boring old
spaghetti. Actually, the spaghetti is not really spaghetti. She also adds some more special sauces. So,
do you want to switch lunches? OK, I said. I gave her my lunch, while she gave me her lunch. I never
got your name, by the way. I mumbled my mouth full of the amazing pasta that was as good as
heaven. Oh yeah! she exclaimed, her mouth also filled with food. My name is Adrija! What s your

Comparing Marie Clements s The Unnatural And Accidental Women
Between 1965 and 1988 Gilbert Paul Jordan was linked to the murders of ten women of aboriginal
dissent. Marie Clements play The Unnatural and Accidental Women puts a fictional account to the
realistic murders of the aboriginal women in Vancouver. During the original murders the large
misunderstanding and misinterpretation around aboriginal culture caused the murders of the women to
be ignored, the women themselves to be viewed as invisible, or the murders to be deemed not
important or accidental . In her play Clements recreates the original murders of the boozing barber ,
Gilbert Paul Jordan, however in the play she creates an identity for the murdered women that was not
shown by the media, police or culture in Vancouver at the time of the original murders. The original
murders of the boozing barber were completed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important aspects that Sharon Sullivan highlights in her article about the play is how
its surrealism allows for the focus to be on the women, and not the killings. Clements decentres the act
of murder by focusing on the experiences and actions of the women before and after death,
emphasizing their individuality and the possibility of redemption. (Sullivan, 68) The film, however,
nullifies any attempt by the play to humanize these women, for it cuts out the witty dialogues between
the women, portraying them only as they are represented in the media, as alcoholics, prostitutes, and
victims. The movie places the murder and Rebecca, Aunt Shadie s Daughter, at the center of the plot
line and completely erases the side stories of the murdered aboriginal women. While the screenplay is
also written by Marie Clements, it dehumanizes the women by stripping them of their identity and
turning their stories back into a classic Hollywood horror

The digital divide is a term used for to describe the growing distance between those with access to
information and those who don t have the access. We would be a perfect example of the digital divide.
What makes us a perfect example would be your lack of access to the internet and electronic devices
like smartphone, computers, and the internet and how I have access to all of that information at the
touch of my fingers. One aspect of the digital divide is the speed in which people can access
information. The difference between high speed internet and dialup can have a major impact on
staying informed. One way we are trying to bridge the digital divided is by trying to increase access to
the internet. Organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have been leading advocates of
provided the public access to the internet with networked computers in libraries since 1997. Some
would say we are succeeding at least in the United States now that nearly 99 percent of public libraries
have internet access available to the public. Now we are working on expanding the number of
computers in those libraries. With the increasing use of smartphones the digital divide between
different white Americans and African Americans shrunk greatly. Globally we face a harder time
closing the gap since the digital divide closely follows behind the economic divide. As the

Quentin Tarantino s Inglorious Bastards
Quentin Tarantino s 2009 film Inglourious Bastards entails a Jewish revenge fantasy that is told
through a counterfactual history of events in World War II. However, this story follows a completely
different plot than what we are currently familiar with. Within these circumstances, audiences now
question the very ideas and arguments that are often associated with World War II. We believe that
Inglourious Basterds is a Jewish revenge fantasy that forces us to rethink our previous understandings
by disrupting the viewers sense of content and nature in the history of World War II. Within this thesis,
this paper will cover the Jewish lens vs. American lens, counter plots with in the film, ignored social
undercurrents, and the idea that nobody ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Jew Hunter is very polite yet vicious and frightening and displays this again through a silent
brutal strangling of one of the spies. These scenes depict Jewish and supporters revolt against Hitler s
reign and the war in itself it was before American involvement.
Inglourious Basterds argues that the American lens of Jews in World War II is inaccurate by
contrasting the traditional American lens with a strong Jewish lens through parallel plots in the story.
In Inglourious Basterds, we mentioned the opening scene which starts with the Jew Hunter in
complete control and using fear tactics to make a French farmer give up the Jews he is harboring. This
scene shows the Jew Hunter in full control of the situation with all power resting solely in his hands.
The Jewish family being harbored is completely helpless as they hide under the floorboards. The Jews
in this scene are in line with what the American perspective of Jews in World War II, helpless and at
the mercy of the Nazis. However the Basterds violently contradict the American lens of Jew s role in
World War II history. This is done so in the way the film is laid out with alternating five different
chapters, which alternate between Jews having power and lacking power. The Basterds reverse the
power structure and become the ones inflicting fear. They begin to not only kill Nazis they make the
Nazis fear Jews. This can be seen in one scene where the Bear Jew walks out of a dark tunnel, bat

The Middle Ages come into being around A.D. 500, which was after the western half of the Roman
Empire collapsed. They lasted to about A.D.1400 and are referenced to as a period of time that
experienced violence by Barbaric invasion, feudalism, disease, and strong feelings for faith. The Dark
Ages, the Age of Feudalism and the Age of Faith are all appropriate titles, however the label that best
fits is the Age of Faith because of the political, economic and social influence the church held. The
middle ages are often identified as the Dark Age because of the Black Death, invasions by the
Barbarians, and because of lack of enlightenment for the common people. A plague most likely

Their daily lives were centered on the manor and that was how it stayed until towns began to grow
into cities after the crusades (OI). Feudalism had positive bearings because it was the solution for
decentralized government and lack of protection but also held people back due to lack of social
mobility.
The Age of Faith is most accurate for describing the Middle Ages because of the political, social and
economic influence the church held. Feudalism was still not providing one united central government
but instead many small ones and so the church gained a governmental authority over Western Europe.
People were all working to try to get into Heaven, and because of that there was a lot of control over
telling people what to do. The church could excommunicate people and even Kings if they felt that
they were refusing to comply (OI). This gave the church power over the Kings because they controlled
who would not be allowed to return to the church; if someone were excommunicated they would not
be able to reach Heaven. At the time the bible was written in Latin, which only could be read to the
common people by a clergy member who could explain what was written. With the reliance on the
church the pope s words and explanations were taken as God s. The Truce of God stated different
peace agreements, which they enforced by exerting their power and influence (Doc. 5). The Crusades
were a major part of this because the church declared to try to capture the Holy land. Pope Urban

Benefits Of A Unified Salary Schedule
There are many advantages and disadvantages to a single, unified salary schedule. These types of
salary schedules only recognize years of service and amount of education to determine salary amounts
for all certified staff. Each salary schedule has strengths and areas of improvement, and analysis of the
salary schedule will highlight these areas. Salary schedules, including Hollister RV School District s,
only require teachers to remain employed thorough the school year to earn a raise in pay for the next
year, automatically moving to the next step on the salary schedule. Pay increases also are earned by
moving to the next lane or column based on the hours of graduate credit completed toward an
advanced degree, such as a Masters, Specialist, or Doctoral degree. Hollister RV School District s
certified staff s salary schedule discloses several areas of exceptionality, highlighting what is
important to the District. However, there are also areas to be improved, including recruitment and
retention (Hollister RV School District, 2016). One exceptional characteristic of the salary schedule is
that the vertical steps carry the same monetary value as the horizontal columns with the exception of
completing a Master s degree or a Specialist degree. This salary schedule indicates an equal value is
placed on service and completed education. Upon completing a degree, staff salaries increase $960
instead of the $480 earned by simply accumulating additional hours of education.

Government Internet Censorship of China
Government Internet Censorship of China
The Internet is also called Information superhighway because of the limitless amount of data that one

many roadblocks on the superhighway in form of Internet Censorship . There are several kinds of
motivations for censorship. It ranges from keeping children away from undesirable content to a
government control of nation s access of information. In China, the internet censorship is especially

Jumping Genes
DNA is not only significant because it transfers hereditary information from generation to generation,
but the discovery of DNA and genetics has helped diagnose diseases and formulate treatments
customized to a person s specific biochemistry and genetic makeup. This experiment focused on the
Alu insertion on chromosome 16, also known as one of the jumping genes in the human genome. Yet,
Alu is technically not a gene and therefore, it has no effect on the organism s fitness. Although Alu
does not encode for any protein, it does appear to be stable over evolutionary time once inserted at a
specific chromosomal location (Batzer et al., 1994). This jumping gene can indicate the relationships
between human populations since not all chromosomes carry the Alu allele at a specific locus. ...

DNA. However, the purpose of this experiment was to analyze the frequency of the Alu allele for the

would suggest that the allele frequency does not change over time. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)

  • 2. Identifying Covalent, Ionic And Hydrogen Bonds After completing the lab, we will be able to identify covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonds are the weakest between all the three types of bonds we will be observing and it occurs between hydrogen and oxygen atom or nitrogen atom; hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole dipole bond. A dipole dipole interaction occurs because of polar molecules. We should know that the bond between hydrogen and oxygen in a water molecule is covalent. Another example, of covalent bond is the bond between all the atoms that compose ethane. Another objective that we will observe is solubility, the lab mentions. An example, of an ionic bond is NaCl, this is an ionic bond because the Na+ and Cl , the sodium atom (cation) gives a pair of electrons to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A water molecule is able to interact with up to four other water molecules to create a tetrahedral. The second part of the lab, we will be observing cohesion and adhesion theories. Cohesion is when water molecules stick to each other and adhesion is the occurrence of water molecules sticking to other molecules. To observe adhesion and cohesion, we will pipette a drop of water on a piece of parafilm; we will be looking for if they water will be stuck together or did it spread apart, we will be explaining our observations. We will then, repeat the same experiment, however instead of parafilm we will use a glass slide; we will try to compare cohesion between the water molecules and the adhesion between the water and glass slide. After, we are done pipetting the water and observing, we will then demonstrate what happened in the pipette part (both the parafilm and the glass slide) of the experiment using the 12 water molecules and the non magnetic tray. The third part of the experiment consists of testing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via... Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition, learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try to develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF. Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation may be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and H3 methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating cycle that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might have begun to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. I hypothesize that it is possible to prevent hypermethylation and hyperacetylation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Transcendentalism Of Thoreau And Walden The 19th century was a time of social change and enlightenment that sent ripples of influence into many aspects of the American culture, including art and literature. Prominent figures such as Thoreau and Cole emerged. Thoreau was a philosopher and writer whose works such as Walden lead the literary evolution of Transcendentalism. Similarly, Cole, a, was a founding figure in the fledgling art movement called the Hudson River School. Both men were shaped by the same influence of a rapidly transforming society, and from this environment they expressed similar beliefs in areas such as anti industrialization. This antagonism towards industrialization was balance by their reverence towards nature; mankind was viewed as infinitesimal in comparison. The animosity for industrialization combined with respect for nature also lead to Cole and Thoreau s support towards the preservation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Housewarming chapter of Walden, Thoreau portrayed nature as an all powerful force that could easily cut [our] threads any time with a sharper blast from the North. Thoreau is alluding to the Three Fates of Greek mythology. The Three Fates were omnipotent figures who has complete power over mankind: they weave and create the threads of men s lives, but also had complete jurisdiction to cut, and end, the life threads. By comparing nature to the Three Fates, Thoreau credited nature with power akin to that of a god. Cole expressed similar views in his painting The Oxbow. In the painting, Cole depicted himself sitting atop the hill of wilderness. However, his figure was painted as a mere speck in comparison to the awe inspiring grandness of the nature around him. This juxtaposition of scale comments upon man s place in the universe, that we are all subordinate to the whims of nature. This is matched and enhanced by te storm clouds which serves as an reminder of nature s high power at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Software is used to generate a plot of stress versus strain, which allows Young s Modulus, the elastic region, the plastic region, the yield point, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The displacement registered by the Rotary Motion Sensor will be the combination of the coupon stretching and the rest of the apparatus bending. Regardless of how much the coupon stretches, the deformation of the rest of the apparatus is constant for a given force. After repetitive measurement with the calibration bar it was found that the movement of force sensor is negligible compared to the stretching of the sample, hence the calibration step is not required. Procedure 1. When installing coupons, remove the nuts and the clamp and place it at secure place, it is not needed for composite material testing. The coupon should be slid completely over the coupon holding screws on each end. Figure 3: Clamping a Coupon Figure 3: Clamping a Coupon Figure 2: Washer Arrangements Figure 2: Washer Arrangements 2. • 7. Cause And Effects Of Hurricane Katrina Hurricane Katrina was the most horrific natural disasters in 2009. It was one of the most deadly disasters since 1928. In 1928 the hurricane that shocked everyone by having many fatalities was hurricane Okeechobee that hit Florida. Since hurricane Okeechobee Florida hadn t experienced a hurricane like that one until hurricane hit in 2009. Hurricane Katrina was considered a category level five hurricane, which is the highest number of category levels for a hurricane. Only 3 category five level hurricanes have ever hit the United States. Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Katrina being two out of the three to ever hit the United States. For the hurricane Irma that took place in 2017 (this year) that most of us are familiar with, although it was a category five level, America was far more aware and prepared for hurricane Irma that for hurricane Katrina that accord in 2009. For hurricane Katrina sadly America wasn t prepared, therefore they didn t warn the people of Louisiana that their was a category five level hurricane a going to hit, sadly many those from Louisiana and those states new by where left in shock and left to find out for themselves how horrific and disasters this monster hurricane was going too be. A numerous amount of people were not able to evacuate due to lack of transportation and no funds, which caused more people to stay behind and get sick/die. • 8. Set Out To Synthesize 2-Methyl-4-T This experiment set out to synthesize 2 methyl 4 heptanone from the supplied starting materials containing four carbons. During week one, 1 chloro 2 methylpropane was reacted with magnesium to form the Grignard reagent. The Grignard was then reacted with butanal to produce 2 methyl 4 heptanol. Using IR spectroscopy, the success or failure of the formation of the alcohol was observed, concluding week one. During week two, 2 methyl 4 heptanol was oxidized in order to form our desired product of 2 methyl 4 heptanone. Both a GC and IR spectroscopy were observed in order to determine the presence of a newly formed ketone. The results of our experiment from the IR taken during week one showed no formation of an alcohol. The GC and IR spectroscopy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, the GC and IR spectroscopy showed the presence of an aldehyde, as opposed to the desired product of a ketone. The failure of this experiment was likely caused by a null reaction between 1 chloro 2 methylpropane and magnessium, leading to no, or very little, Grignard reagent being formed. The mixture between the 1 chloro 2 methylpropane and magnessium was conducted over an extended time period with exessive amounts of reagent used in order to attempt to push the reaction forward. However, it is believed that these extreme tactics lead to a false positive in the formation of the Grignard reagent and produced negative repercussions down the line when further experimentation was conducted. The data obtained by the IR spectroscopy from the conclusion of week one supports this theory. The presence of a carbonyl group, with an intensity of 72.40%, and no measurable formation of alcohol were observed. The oxidation of 2 methyl 4 heptanol can neither be deemed a success, nor a failure, due to it not existing in any measurable rate within our final product from week one. However, the mixture still underwent the oxidation process in an attempt to produce any possibility of the desired product. Using IR spectroscopy, the resulting data from the oxidation appeared very similar to that of the IR spectroscopy data from week one, with a slightly lower intensity of the carbonyl group at 66.89%. The GC performed on the final product mixture revealed this carbonyl group to be an aldehyde, as previously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, each season reveals a mysterious and often terrible secret like for example murder that, throughout the storyline, could not be hidden under the surface anymore. Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), the housewife whose secrets led to her committing suicide in the first episode, intersperses ironic allusions throughout each episode. The above mentioned composition of both thrilling and touching drama and ironical comedy makes it such a successful series, which consists of seven seasons at the moment. 2.2 The Opening Credits After an idea by Marc Cherry and finally having been produced by a company named yU+co , the approximately 40 seconds long spot concerns a composition of various more or less famous pieces of art that are shown in a rapid succession. They have been modified by the producers, so that moving persons and objects, having been taken from the paintings, form an action, which I am going to describe in the following. The music has been composed by Danny Elfman. However, despite being Emmy nominated, the opening theme is only shown in various episodes. In many of them, only the first or the last picture is portrayed. The first picture, which is displayed, shows the biblical couple of Adam and Eve standing in front of the tree of knowledge. It is stated by many politicians that the illegals only take the jobs that American citizens do not want. With the guest worker program and the use of H 1B visas, businesses use these workers at a significant lower rate of pay than they would have to pay a citizen. The number of H 1B visas issued in 1992 was estimated at less than 100,000. By 2002 the number climbed to over 1 million (Wagner, 2007). This abuse of the working visa is absolutely legal by any company looking for workers that are not citizens. The big business corporations are not looking to change this law as they would be out of pocket a great deal more money in wages. Every single person in the United States will be touched by the effects of illegals in this country at some point in their life. If the court as a matter of law finds the contract or any clause of the contract to have been unconscionable at the time it was made the court may refuse to enforce the contract or it may enforce the remainder of the contract without the unconscionable clause, or it may so limit the application of any unconscionable clause as to avoid any unconscionable result (What Is the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)? n.a). b. • 12. The Origin Of The Bible Essay After a number of years have passed through the church, one would wonder how we can be certain that the right books make up the Bible. We have all of these translations and interpretations of Scripture, but how did we get the Bible itself? These are the many questions that make up many non believers and possibly even many non believers today as well. I can speak for many church goers on the contrary, that have grown up in the church and they have not thought about the idea of the origin of the Bible. Either way, Christian or atheist, it is important to understand the origin of one s beliefs. This leads to the basis of the foundation of why a Christian believes the truth of God s word and then is able to faith their faith with others. To begin our research, it is important to understand and define some of the terms that are displayed throughout the text. First off, the origin of the word canon comes from the Latin word canon. This was originally from the Greek word kanon. When translated into English this word is referred to as a standard or type of rule that is found in 2 Corinthians 10:13 and again in Galatians 6:16. It is important to note that when Paul is writing, he is not referring to the canon of Scripture. This word came into be for the canon of scripture at a much later date when the Christian church called kanon stood for the rule of faith and revealed truth. In the fourth century, the church referred to the Scriptures of both the Old Testaments and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pesticides are used in agriculture in order to protect plants from fungal diseases, pests, insects that affect the growth of food crops. However, pesticide practices have negative issues on the environment, the quality and the amount of coffee manufactured, and the health of the coffee drinkers and the farmers in the long run. • 14. Act 3 Vs Hamlet Movie Essay The director that does the best job presenting act three is Kenneth Branagh. In Branagh s act threethe tone of the movie is much more positive and the scenes are far more colorful than the other two versions. The colorfulness does a better job of portraying act three since everybody other than Hamlet is having funand not grieving the death of the king. This is where the other two versions aren t as great. In those two interpretations, the film is darker and depressing which does not encompass what is actually happening in the story.Branagh s depiction of Claudius is also a lot more superior and intelligent. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Branagh s Hamlet is also greater than the other two since his Hamlet has more of a method to his madness whereas Zeffirelli s does not. In Zeffireli and Olivier s interpretation of Hamlet, he is a lot more abusive and aggressive towards the other characters; Zeffirelli s even goes as far to rape his mother and almost have sex with her. Branagh s act three is superior in this aspect since Hamlet is not a powerful man but is actually more of a coward and so portraying him physically abusing other characters does not make any sense. Branagh s portrayal of the queen is also greater than the other two. Gertrude has a lot more power in his version and is able to stand her ground against Hamlet; she is also the only one not to have a sexual encounter with Hamlet. This makes Branagh s act three greater because it is more realistic that the queen would be angry with Hamlet and stand up to him rather than being submissive to him like the other two depictions. Women and Sports Essay Women and Sports As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male bodies to prevent them from participation in any male sports. This division between male and female sports clearly stems from age old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity. When women attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are traditionally male, the intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where traditional social constructions are tinkered with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women are expected to be more passive than their male counterparts. When a woman participates in sport, she challenges many aspects of the gender role that has been defined for her. First, she is taking time away from her family to do an activity that is outside the home. Second, in sport, she is behaving in a more aggressive and competitive manner, which contradicts the meek feminine mold to which she is supposed to adhere. Furthermore, when women compete in public, suddenly the lines begin to blur. Men no longer have the monopoly over the role of universal breadwinner. Challenging these socially constructed lines works as a catalyst for social change. All women athletes, both in traditional and non traditional sports, play a pivotal role in instigating this change. Female bodies were traditionally expected to be small, slender, soft, and pretty, while male bodies were supposed to be muscular, large, solid, and handsome. Sports such as gymnastics and figure skating allow and almost require that women maintain such feminine physical qualities. Athletes competing in sports such as power lifting and rowing are encouraged to increase muscle mass at a rapid rate thereby acquiring a physical stature that society deems masculine. Furthermore, while technique is essential to these sports, there is a significant emphasis on brute strength. Brute strength contradicts the passive femininity that is expected of women. • 21. The Pros And Cons Of Tort Law Within Tort Law it has been acclaimed by most, that UK courts are not in favour of negligent claims brought against the police force. There is no doubt that a police officer owes a duty to protect the public However, in many regards the police aren t found to be guilty to owe any such duty. The Tort of negligence proclaims that one must be owed a duty of care to claim, otherwise negligence caused to the claimant due to the conduct of the defendant, is held without regard. As stated in the Police Act 1964 The chief officer of police for any police area shall be liable in respect of torts committed by constables under his direction It was firstly suggested that the courts show willingness to invoke public policy principles of immunity where certain groups of defendants were sued in negligence , to which the case facts in Hill v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police [1988] will shine light on. Moreover, one may suggest that the emergency services should be free to carry out their line of work without the conscious threat of liability. If one was to act in such a way as that which threatened overriding liability, it is questionable as to whether an officer would act in a defensive state of mind, as stated by Lord Keith in Hill . It may well be considered that the courts specifically deny claims against the emergency services, invoking public policy, as observed in Capital and Countries Bank plc v Hampshire CC [1997] and John Munroe Ltd v London Fire and Civil Defence Authority Others [1997] . The fire brigade, like the police force are too exempt on the grounds of no duty is owed to an individual if an emergency call is not responded to. Policy is essentially concerned with the notion of Duty of care and maybe considered the fourth element required for a negligence claim, primarily used to disregard claims against the police. The principles of duty of care are centred around the cases of Donoghue v Stevenson (1932) , Hill and Caparo Industries PLC v Dickman [1990] . The case of Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] has been instrumental to the foundations of Tort Law, following the notion that since this case negligence has rapidly developed into the cornerstone of our system for compensating ... • 27. Pso Algorithm Is Developed By The Social Behavior Patterns... 3.3 PSO PSO algorithm is developed by the social behavior patterns of the organisms that exist and interact within large groups. As, it converges at a faster rate than the global optimization algorithms, the PSO algorithm is applied for solving various optimization problems easily. In the PSO technique, a population called as a swarm of candidate solutions are encoded as particles in the search space. Initially, PSO begins with the random initialization of the population. These particles move iteratively through the D dimensional search space to search the optimal solutions, by updating the position of each particle. During the movement of the swarm, a vector Xi=(Xi1, Xi2,...., XiD) represents the current position of the particle i . Vi=(Vi1, Vi2,...., ViD) represents the velocity of the particle which is in the range of [−vmax, vmax]. The best previous position of a particle is denoted as personal best Pbest. The global best position obtained by the population is denoted as Gbest. The PSO searches for the optimal solution by updating the velocity and position of each particle, based on the Pbest and Gbest. The next position of the particle in the search space is calculated by using the new velocity value. This process is repeated for a fixed number of times or until a minimum error is achieved. The rate of the change in the velocity and position of the particle is given as v_id=v_id+c_1 r_1 (p_id x_id )+c_2 r_2 (p_gd x_id ) (3.1) x_id=x_id+v_id (3.2) Where c_1 ... One of the most important aspects that Sharon Sullivan highlights in her article about the play is how its surrealism allows for the focus to be on the women, and not the killings. Clements decentres the act of murder by focusing on the experiences and actions of the women before and after death, emphasizing their individuality and the possibility of redemption. (Sullivan, 68) The film, however, nullifies any attempt by the play to humanize these women, for it cuts out the witty dialogues between the women, portraying them only as they are represented in the media, as alcoholics, prostitutes, and victims. The movie places the murder and Rebecca, Aunt Shadie s Daughter, at the center of the plot line and completely erases the side stories of the murdered aboriginal women. While the screenplay is also written by Marie Clements, it dehumanizes the women by stripping them of their identity and turning their stories back into a classic Hollywood horror ... The digital divide is a term used for to describe the growing distance between those with access to information and those who don t have the access. We would be a perfect example of the digital divide. What makes us a perfect example would be your lack of access to the internet and electronic devices like smartphone, computers, and the internet and how I have access to all of that information at the touch of my fingers. One aspect of the digital divide is the speed in which people can access information. The difference between high speed internet and dialup can have a major impact on staying informed. One way we are trying to bridge the digital divided is by trying to increase access to the internet. Organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have been leading advocates of provided the public access to the internet with networked computers in libraries since 1997. Some would say we are succeeding at least in the United States now that nearly 99 percent of public libraries have internet access available to the public. Now we are working on expanding the number of computers in those libraries. With the increasing use of smartphones the digital divide between different white Americans and African Americans shrunk greatly. Globally we face a harder time closing the gap since the digital divide closely follows behind the economic divide. As the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Quentin Tarantino s Inglorious Bastards Quentin Tarantino s 2009 film Inglourious Bastards entails a Jewish revenge fantasy that is told through a counterfactual history of events in World War II. However, this story follows a completely different plot than what we are currently familiar with. Within these circumstances, audiences now question the very ideas and arguments that are often associated with World War II. We believe that Inglourious Basterds is a Jewish revenge fantasy that forces us to rethink our previous understandings by disrupting the viewers sense of content and nature in the history of World War II. These scenes depict Jewish and supporters revolt against Hitler s reign and the war in itself it was before American involvement. Inglourious Basterds argues that the American lens of Jews in World War II is inaccurate by contrasting the traditional American lens with a strong Jewish lens through parallel plots in the story. In Inglourious Basterds, we mentioned the opening scene which starts with the Jew Hunter in complete control and using fear tactics to make a French farmer give up the Jews he is harboring. This scene shows the Jew Hunter in full control of the situation with all power resting solely in his hands. The Jewish family being harbored is completely helpless as they hide under the floorboards. The Jews in this scene are in line with what the American perspective of Jews in World War II, helpless and at the mercy of the Nazis. However the Basterds violently contradict the American lens of Jew s role in World War II history. This is done so in the way the film is laid out with alternating five different chapters, which alternate between Jews having power and lacking power. The Basterds reverse the power structure and become the ones inflicting fear. They begin to not only kill Nazis they make the Nazis fear Jews. This can be seen in one scene where the Bear Jew walks out of a dark tunnel, bat banging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They lasted to about A.D.1400 and are referenced to as a period of time that experienced violence by Barbaric invasion, feudalism, disease, and strong feelings for faith. The Dark Ages, the Age of Feudalism and the Age of Faith are all appropriate titles, however the label that best fits is the Age of Faith because of the political, economic and social influence the church held. The middle ages are often identified as the Dark Age because of the Black Death, invasions by the Barbarians, and because of lack of enlightenment for the common people. Their daily lives were centered on the manor and that was how it stayed until towns began to grow into cities after the crusades (OI). Feudalism had positive bearings because it was the solution for decentralized government and lack of protection but also held people back due to lack of social mobility. The Age of Faith is most accurate for describing the Middle Ages because of the political, social and economic influence the church held. Feudalism was still not providing one united central government but instead many small ones and so the church gained a governmental authority over Western Europe. People were all working to try to get into Heaven, and because of that there was a lot of control over telling people what to do. The church could excommunicate people and even Kings if they felt that they were refusing to comply (OI). This gave the church power over the Kings because they controlled who would not be allowed to return to the church; if someone were excommunicated they would not be able to reach Heaven. At the time the bible was written in Latin, which only could be read to the common people by a clergy member who could explain what was written. With the reliance on the church the pope s words and explanations were taken as God s. The Truce of God stated different peace agreements, which they enforced by exerting their power and influence (Doc. 5). The Crusades were a major part of this because the church declared to try to capture the Holy land. Pope Urban ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Benefits Of A Unified Salary Schedule There are many advantages and disadvantages to a single, unified salary schedule. These types of salary schedules only recognize years of service and amount of education to determine salary amounts for all certified staff. Each salary schedule has strengths and areas of improvement, and analysis of the salary schedule will highlight these areas. Salary schedules, including Hollister RV School District s, only require teachers to remain employed thorough the school year to earn a raise in pay for the next year, automatically moving to the next step on the salary schedule. Pay increases also are earned by moving to the next lane or column based on the hours of graduate credit completed toward an advanced degree, such as a Masters, Specialist, or Doctoral degree. Hollister RV School District s certified staff s salary schedule discloses several areas of exceptionality, highlighting what is important to the District. However, there are also areas to be improved, including recruitment and retention (Hollister RV School District, 2016). One exceptional characteristic of the salary schedule is that the vertical steps carry the same monetary value as the horizontal columns with the exception of completing a Master s degree or a Specialist degree. This salary schedule indicates an equal value is placed on service and completed education. Upon completing a degree, staff salaries increase $960 instead of the $480 earned by simply accumulating additional hours of education. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fact is not all of us can access the Internet like what it is. There are many roadblocks on the superhighway in form of Internet Censorship . There are several kinds of motivations for censorship. It ranges from keeping children away from undesirable content to a government control of nation s access of information. In China, the internet censorship is especially strong. According to the study of Chinese Internet censorship by OpenNetInitiative China operate the most extensive, technologically sophisticated, and broad reaching system of Internet filtering in the word (OpenNetInitiative 2005). In this essay, I want to write about how the Internet censorship working in China and why China government is running such strong regulations controlling internet. Jumping Genes DNA is not only significant because it transfers hereditary information from generation to generation, but the discovery of DNA and genetics has helped diagnose diseases and formulate treatments customized to a person s specific biochemistry and genetic makeup. This experiment focused on the Alu insertion on chromosome 16, also known as one of the jumping genes in the human genome. Yet, Alu is technically not a gene and therefore, it has no effect on the organism s fitness. Although Alu does not encode for any protein, it does appear to be stable over evolutionary time once inserted at a specific chromosomal location (Batzer et al., 1994). This jumping gene can indicate the relationships between human populations since not all chromosomes carry the Alu allele at a specific locus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this knowledge, a better analysis of population relationships can be achieved. In addition, amplification of a specific Alu insertion with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can be used to study not only human migrational patterns, but also genetic mapping and genetic disorders (Novick et al., 1993). There are many different applications this jumping gene has on the research associated with DNA. However, the purpose of this experiment was to analyze the frequency of the Alu allele for the entire class population and determine whether the class was in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium, which would suggest that the allele frequency does not change over time. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to amplify the Alu allele after the DNA was isolated, then gel electrophoresis was used to analyze the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
