Star Of David Monologue II
PROLOGUE 2a. parte
In the southeast of France, which was occupied by the Italian army, the Italian authorities refused
the requests from the Nazi army to arrest the French Jews, the result was that in 1942 and until
September 1943, many French Jews found refuge East of the Rhone River in the area occupied by
the Italians, (THAT) was French territory
The Nazi army forces occupied the Italian area in September 1943 and began to implement the
Final solution supported by the French Militia.
On May 29th, 1942, the occupation authorities passed an Ordinance that forced the Jews in the
occupied zone, over six years of age, to wear the yellow star, from June 7th under penalty of
imprisonment if they did not do so . The Star of David was yellow and ... Show more content on

Despite the huge participation of French officials many Jews managed to escape the RAID
because a neighbor or police friend, (HAD) warned them of the imminent RAID had hidden or
helped them find a safe haven.
The brutal arrest by the French police, not only men, but also women and children, had as a
consequence an awareness within the non Jewish, French population and generated a solidarity
toward the Jews to protect them from the arrests especially children
In Paris and in the rest of France, about 80% of Jewish children survived the war. Some 10,000 of
them remained alive thanks to the mobilization of their parents, the support of organizations to
rescue Jews, the Jewish resistance groups the French resistance and the active solidarity of Parisians
Among the important Jewish communities in Europe was France who managed to save the
greatest number of children 84% of Jewish children. This was mainly due to the active sympathy of
the non Jewish population to support the efforts of families and Jewish organizations that tried to

The Necklace Essay
Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace is a short story about a middle class girl Mathilde, who loses
her friend s costly necklace and spends a decade paying for its replacement. The Necklace
represents the story of a standard young lady who loves her husband, despite her desires to be an
affluent person. However, readers fail to notice that Madame Loisel s love for Monsieur Loisel
vanishes upon their marriage and her materialistic personalities continue to increase. The Necklace
is influencing other stories because of its elegance and love, but people will never understand the
melancholy and negative reality of this narrative. Therefore, in the short storyThe Necklace by Guy
de Maupassant, the protagonist Mathilde is portrayed as a dissatisfied, begrudging, and
calumniating character through her perspective of her average life, her actions toward her friend
Madame Forestier, and her husband Monsieur Loisel. To show that Mathilde is dissatisfied with
her ordinary life, the author mentions She grieved over the shabbiness of her apartment, the
dinginess of the walls, the worn out appearance of the chairs, the ugliness of the draperies
(Maupassant 198). This quote tells the reader that Madame Loisel has many complaints about her
lifestyle as well as her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of Education and Madame Ramponneau for Madame and Monsieur Loisel to attend the evening
reception. But instead of being ecstatic, she shows her agitated state by tossing the invitation
purposely to make her husband feel apologetic and ashamed. Maupassant says She gave him an
irritated glance and burst out impatiently, What do you think I have to go in? (200) to characterize
Mathilde as a harrowing and hellish wife to her

The Xpand Conference
For my networking event I attended some of the Xpand conferences at the Halifax Central Library,
there was three separate conferences I attended. The first conference began at 10 AM and the the
last one finish at 2:45 PM, each was 45 minutes long with a lunch break at 12. The three conferences
were Youth Arts Connections, the Launchpad conference, and the There s No I in Team. The three
conferences talked about different difficulties in the musicindustry and how they overcame it.
These conferences were brought in for part of Halifax Pop Explosions. They were to help educate
and show youth the different pieces of the music industry and how each individual found their way
into the music industry.
The first conference I attended was the Youth Arts Connections conference. Where I got to meet

explained how managers make there money threw royalty. A piece of the contract says they ll

also about the booking agent and how they get a similar deal. Maybe 15% of just the money
made from live shows (as an example). He explained how this can take a huge portion of your
income as a musician. As you build up your team you start to see the struggle for income that
comes into play. Pat also went on to explain the long term effects of contracts. For example if a
manager isn t working well with your band but you ve already signed a deal, you still technically
owe them royalties. Which can add even more income lost to your band. Pat s presentation got cut

Philip: He was from Bethsaida of Galilee, the village of Peter and Andrew. Since the primary
industry of this village was fishing it is likely Philip was also a fisherman. (Crouse, 2010).
Bartholomew: Bartholomew means son of Tolmai. It is therefore, not his name.
Most scholars believe Nathanael is to be identified as Bartholomew If he is Nathanael, he was
from Cana of Galilee. When he was told that Jesus was from Nazareth he replied: Can any good
thing come out of Nazareth? (Crouse, 2010). Nazareth! Can anything good come from here?
Come and see, said Philip (John 1:46, NIV Bible. 2005). Thomas: His name is Aramaic meaning
twin. John uses the Greek rendering Didymus which means the same thing. Because of his
name it is assumed that he had a twin brother or sister (Crouse, 2010). Matthew: Luke gives his
name as Levi. The name Matthew (Matthias) means gift of God and may be the name given him
by the Lord as he did other disciples. He was the son of Alphaeus. The name Levi could mean he
was of the tribe of Levi. By profession he worked for the Romans as a tax collector. This of course
means he was hated by the people. His home was Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee. (Crouse,
2010). James: He is known as the Son of Alphaeus and James, the Less Some women were

Introduction to Cyber Crime
The first recorded cyber crime took place in the year 1820! That is not surprising considering the
fact that the abacus, which is thought to be the earliest form of a computer, has been around
since 3500 B.C. in India, Japan and China. The era of modern computers, however, began with
the analytical engine of Charles Babbage. Cyber crime is an evil having its origin in the growing
dependence on computers in modern life. In a day and age when everything from microwave
ovens and refrigerators to nuclear power plants is being run on computers, cyber crime has
assumed rather sinister implications. Major cyber crimes in the recent past include the Citibank rip
off. US $ 10 million were fraudulently transferred out of the bank and into a bank... Show more

E.g. Pooja has an e mail address pooja@asianlaws.org. Her enemy, Sameer spoofs her e mail
and sends obscene messages to all her acquaintances. Since the e mails appear to have originated
from Pooja, her friends could take offence and relationships could be spoiled for life. Email
spoofing can also cause monetary damage. In an American case, a teenager made millions of
dollars by spreading false information about certain companies whose shares he had short sold.
This misinformation was spread by sending spoofed emails, purportedly from news agencies like
Reuters, to share brokers and investors who were informed that the companies were doing very
badly. Even after the truth came out the values of the shares did not go back to the earlier levels
and thousands of investors lost a lot of money.
Forgery Counterfeit currency notes, postage and revenue stamps, mark sheets etc can be forged
using sophisticated computers, printers and scanners. Outside many colleges across India, one finds
touts soliciting the sale of fake mark sheets or even certificates. These are made using computers,
and high quality scanners and printers. In fact, this has becoming a booming business involving
thousands of Rupees being given to student gangs in exchange for these bogus but authentic
looking certificates.

Karachalios, Hantes, Zibis, et al (2005). Diagnostic Accuracy of a New Clinical Test (the Thessaly
Test) for Early Detection of Meniscal Tears. J Bone Joint Surg Am, 87, 955 962.
Part 1A Critique Quantitative
Research Question
What is the diagnostic accuracy of a new dynamic clinical test for the detection of meniscal tears?
a)This might be of relevance because the current diagnostic gold standard (MRI) is expensive and
not always available.
b)Are current testing methods inaccurate? Are clinical tests inadequate compared to MRI?
Introduction seemed contradictory; as seventy five per cent accuracy of diagnosis can be made on
history alone (Daniel, 1982; DeHaven, 1975) followed by specific clinical tests with above average
accuracy. Very brief essentially, non existent literature review. Besides mention of the population
susceptible to meniscal injury, other relevant information pertaining to the injury wasn t briefed.
Such as, the mechanism of injury as well as the classic signs and symptoms experienced by an
individual after meniscal pathology. Neither the introduction nor the brief literature review goes
over what exactly sensitivity and specificity imply in the results. Sensitivity being how good the test
is at detecting meniscal tears and specificity being how good the test is at identifying normal knee
(Mohan, 2007). Also, there is no mention of what constitutes a false positive and a false negative
result encountered during

Wonder Woman Hero
Spider Man and Wonder Woman are not similar to the stereotypical heroes at the time, but they
still had the attributes of a true hero. In the past, Stan Lee had thought of a superhero that would
be similar to teenagers. Stan Lee wanted to construct a hero that people could relate to, and in the
end he created Spider Man. Spider Man simply had the same abilities as a spider. Then in 1941,
Wonder Woman made her first appearance from the mind of William Moulton Marston
. William
supported women s rights since his college days, and he wanted to have equality for each gender
in all human activities. In addition, people believed that comics were bad for kids, but William
believed not. Wonder Woman s set of skills is that she could fly, had immense speed, strength, and
smarts. Additionally, Wonder Woman also wielded a lasso that could make anyone tell the truth if
caught by it, and this lasso is inspired from William s polygraph, which was able to detect lies.

When Stan Lee proposed the idea of a hero with spider like characteristics to Martin Goodman,
Martin turned it down because many people do not enjoy spiders. He said that Spider Man seemed
more like a comedy character than a powerful superhero. Since most people don t like spiders,
Goodman thought that the name Spider Man was a terrible choice, (1 Patel). At the time, Wonder
Woman had powers similar to the male superheroes of the time because most female heroes were
minor characters with limited powers. Then, as now, most comic book characters were male. The
few female characters were minor players with limited powers, (2 Wilmore). Wonder Woman and

The Alchemist The Alchemist, a fiction novel written by Paulo Coelho, is an outstanding piece
of literature that teaches important life lessons through the adventures of a young boy seeking
his treasure. The universal idea of this book is to always pursue your personal destiny, or in
other words, to follow your dreams. Santiago, a shepherd of Andalusia, Spain, had a dream to
reach the grand pyramids of Egypt. A passing king of Salem told the boy to follow his destiny,
When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it (page 22) .

The main idea of this book is one man s fight against racial prejudice because during the 1950s
60s, there was scandalous segregation between whites and blacks, and Malcolm X strived to
end it. Malcolm X always noticed that white americans had treated black people unfairly, and he
said in one of his speeches, White man wants black men to stay immoral, unclean, and ignorant.
As long as we stay in these conditions we will keep on begging him and he will control us. (page
89) This story explains the life of Malcolm X from being a poor farm boy in Omaha, Nebraska,
and having a tragic childhood, to becoming an inspiring human rights activist and African
American Muslim minister that changed the world. He wanted to gain the black man s civil
rights through militant self defense. At first, he believed that black people should follow the
motto, by any means necessary , which included violence, to end the segregation, but later when
he visited Mecca, he came back differently and thought that everyone was his brother, or in other
words, we are all equal and should live in harmony. Malcolm X has shown to the world that a
single voice can make a difference, and also to not let anyone define who you are, and instead to
define yourself. This book is more for the readers that would like to find out more behind one of

The Church Of The Holy Cross Lutheran Church
On Saturday 7, 2015, Alex, Michael and I drove to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church located in
11515 Ashcake Road Ashland, Virginia (about a 5 minute drive away from campus). The first
thing that caught my attention was the external structure of the church. The architecture of the
church is old school and it looks like a wooden house. Inside the church we could immediately
tell that there were at least two floors. The top floor was where the altar was located and where
the congregation took place. As soon as we stepped into the top floor, a really nice lady
approached us and told us to sign a book of guests that everyone that attends the service had to
sign. After we signed in, the pastor approached us and we told him that we were attending the
service for a research project and that we were students from Randolph Macon College, he
seemed thrilled to be able to help us. The service itself was much laid back and relatively small.
There were 25 people at the church on that Saturday, and they were all very friendly. The pastor
was very enthusiastic and welcoming to us. At the beginning of the service, he introduced us to
everyone in the church and he encouraged us to research as much as we wanted to. In my
opinion, this service was very similar to a catholic worship, or similar to the service that I used to
attend when I lived in Venezuela. There was a lot of sitting, reading, standing, and singing. As we
learned in class and in Williams s Religion in America, music is a very

Sarcasm And The Food Industry
Thanksgiving is a time when all my worries melt away and an illusionary warmth engulfs my
very being. The entire family gathers and we prepare a meal worthy of a king; there is no other
holiday aside from Christmas that is greeted with such a feast. It is a means for all of us to
gather, give thanks, and enjoy life s little things. Or rather, the things that seem little to us while
remaining quite a thing to behold in the shadows of one s own mind. It would be truly a sin to pry
away the shelter that encases a sad reality about the mealbestowed upon us. It does not come with
surprise that my ever expanding knowledge base for the subject of foodis casting light on things that

For this reason I never even so much as remember the radical thoughts I have been introduced to
throughout various sources damning the food industry. I know for a fact that I have read many
articles that show aspects that make it fairly reasonable to condemn the industry for practices
being somewhat demeaning for animals and humans alike. Not to mention the
environmentalists that are pointing fingers every which way when it comes to the artificially
made products, animal and plant alike. Albeit some of those articles have been rather one sided
in comprehending the significance of the field, they have had valuable information for their
side of the argument. But I digress, I do not take into consideration all of these outside factors
because I have never dealt with the process of the product. I do not fully appreciate the food that
is placed on the table more for the thoughts I have buried deep during the time of consumption. I
do not remember why I need to appreciate it more. To have the knowledge and be able to cast it
aside so easily is either a curse or a blessing...if I remember it I would never want to eat what is
set before me. And if I do not remember it, I am showing much disrespect for everything that
goes into processed foods. I do not condone animal cruelty and I have no viewpoint on the
environment because I have a feeling there are about twenty times more things that are occurring
to ravage the earth in the background that are not being discussed. I agree with Peter Singer s
philosophy that we need to understand nature and develop the best theories we can to explain
why things are as they are, because only in that way can we work out what the consequences of
our actions are likely to be; but it would be a serious mistake to assume that natural ways of doing
things are incapable of improvements (Singer

The Ceremony Of The Lea Convocation At Grand Rapids...
This past weekend I was honored to take part in the LEA convocation at Grand Rapids Michigan.
As Concordia LTD education major we were invited to participate in the grow a teacher event. At
this event there was a panel of veteran teachers that answered some questions we had, many of the
answers they gave were very helpful. One message that a teacher had for us as future teachers was
that as teachers the best gift we have is the gift of time. We only have these students for a certain
amount of time and in this time we must give them everything we have. Veteran teachers have been
practicing the art of time in educationto their students for quite some time now, and I wanted to
know how teaching has evolved during their career. So I interviewed Gayle Harmon with one
question in mind How has time changed and influenced your teaching life? Welcome to Mrs.

taught in many different states. Mrs. Harmon is a graduate of Concordia College and is a very

for 8 years now, and is the team leader of her section at Matoka. Being that Mrs. Harmon has
taught for quite some time now my first question was How have your teaching skills evolved
since first teaching a class? Mrs. Harmon chuckled and smiled before responding, she says that

Differences Between Book And Movie
There were many differences between the book and the movie. The characters in the movie

last name was different from that in the movie. In the movie the love story between Ben and

In the movie, the scene where Irene tries to get Gomez to confess to the murder of Lilliana (she
pushes him to the extreme) this was not in the book. The soccer scene was also not in the book.
In the book, he is getting a bus ticket to leave town. In the movie, the ending of the movie was
powerful. He was in jail for life. The vibe I got from the book was very different. Gomez

Argument On Lying
I m not upset that you lied to me, I m upset that from now on I can t believe you. These were the
famous words Friedrich Nietzsche spoke and almost everyone in this world can probably relate to
it.Lying seems so universal, but no one can really agree if it s warranted or not. After reviewing a
few opinionated and factual articles on lying, the opinionated conclusion is lying is almost always
never justified unless it is to protect someone from getting hurt. In A Philosopher On Lying , by
Mary Alder, a philosopher named, Immanuel Kant, has his perspective on lying as, Don t tell
someone a lie, Kant said, because then you are not treating that person with respect, as an
individual. .This statement at first glance may seem valid, but let s take a closer look.If your
mom had breast cancer and she told you about it but, said not to mention it to your dad for fear
that he might get a heart attack, what would you do? Especially what shall you do if he asks you
if you know anything about your mom acting weird lately? The majority of you reading this most
likely have switched sides against Immanuel Kant, but, for those who think, Well, surely he must
have had made an exception about protecting someone s life, you are wrong. Immanuel Kant
believes, ...it s not about the size of the lie any lie, even one to save someone s life, is dangerous.
so if he was in that situation, he wouldn t care if it risked his father s life. Therefore, that is the flaw
in Immanuel Kant s argument,

ages of 10 and 25 years for men and between 25 and 35 for women (Rajji et al, 2009, p.286). The
symptoms associated with the disorder are confused thinking, delusions, language, and
hallucinations. These main symptoms branch off into other areas. For example, hallucinations can
branch off into, smells, tastes, what they see, how they feel and auditory. This essay will look at the

Furthermore, Melton (2012) states the next function in our brain is the known factor thing we
have experienced be that positive or negative, and that people will associate with these
experiences that so that we can make an informed decision. Melton (2012) further explains that
our mind has a filter/safe guard called the critical mind that analysis information and decisions
basic on our beliefs. Following this, Melton (2011) states we have our conscious mind where
variables like logic, reasoning, decisions and will, is involved in our processing of information.
Melton (2012) goes on to say, the conscious mind, there are the message units that help us guide our
decision making these are our body, the environment, the conscious, and the sub conscious. All the
factors are then processed through our critical mind and anything we do not like is filtered out
thous allowing us to make an informed choice. However, the critical mind can be overloaded,
where the mind cannot analysis the information being sent to it, and so it passes freely with no safe
guards in place. Furthermore, Melton (2012) states that it is at this point when a person can become
highly suggestive. Taking this into account it would seem that those suffering from CH, have

age discrimination Essay
Age Discrimination
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) protects individuals who are 40
years of age or older from employment discrimination based on age. The ADEA s protections apply
to both employees and job applicants. Under the ADEA, it is unlawful to discriminate against a
person because of his/her age with respect to any term, condition, or privilege of employment,
including hiring, firing, promotion, layoff, compensation, benefits, job assignments, and training.
It is also unlawful to retaliate against an individual for opposing employment practices that
discriminate based on age or for filing an age discrimination charge, testifying, or participating in
any way in an investigation, proceeding, or litigation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
В· Pre Employment Inquiries
The ADEA does not specifically prohibit an employer from asking an applicant s age or date of
birth. However, because such inquiries may deter older workers from applying for employment or
may otherwise indicate possible intent to discriminate based on age, requests for age information
will be closely scrutinized to make sure that the inquiry was made for a lawful purpose, rather than
for a purpose prohibited by the ADEA.
В· Benefits
The Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990 (OWBPA) amended the ADEA to
specifically prohibit employers from denying benefits to older employees. Congress recognized
that the cost of providing certain benefits to older workers is greater than the cost of providing
those same benefits to younger workers, and that those greater costs would create a disincentive
to hire older workers. Therefore, in limited circumstances, an employer may be permitted to
reduce benefits based on age, as long as the cost of providing the reduced benefits to older workers
is the same as the cost of providing benefits to younger workers.
В· Waivers of ADEA Rights
An employer may ask an employee to waive his/her rights or claims under the ADEA either in the

BUS 478 case study Haier
The most dominant problem addressed in the case that Haier is facing is that it lacks of brand
popularity in the global market, comparing to its direct competitors such as Whirlpool, GE
appliances, and Electrolux. Even though Haier made its effort to amplify its brand image and
popularity globally by making a bid to acquire MaytagCorporation yet did not succeed, it is still
difficult for Haierto enter the high end segment of the US white goods market. According to
statistics from Euromonitor, Haier s 2013 market shares in consumer appliances segment in the
North American and Western European markets were 0.9% and 0.5% respectively, which are
significantly lower than Whirlpool s, one of Haier s major competitors in the U.S. and Europe,...

Moreover, a Haier Brothers cartoon series featuring the two brothers became one of the most
popular programs on TV among Chinese kids who were born in the end of last century (Wang,
2008). Success of the cartoon series not only planted Haier s brand image in Chinese children s
minds, but also became a mean of promoting Haier s organizational culture: Altruism, by endowing
Haier brothers great spirits of giving, comprehension, and never stop seeking for knowledge (Wang,
2008).
The success of the cartoon series can be transferred to foreign market as well. By introducing its
own mascot to the foreign consumers in any of its sales campaigns and promotion events, or even
make it the theme in Haier s retailor store, Haier would be able to amplify its brand image and be
easily recognized in the competitive home appliances market.
Alternative strategy 3: Cross Border M A.
As mentioned above, even though the U.S. government has strong opposition on foreign firms
acquisitions of American national firms, cross boarder merging and acquisition is always one of
the best ways to quickly enter a foreign market (Textbook). Haier attempted to acquire Maytag in

Essay on The Embodiment of Suspense in Soccer
I cannot exactly place my reasoning, yet it still captivates me nonetheless. Soccer, or football, as
most of the world knows it, stands out at least to me from virtually all sports. My opinion may
be biased after a decade of playing, but there is a good reason I stuck with it for so long. While
playing, I found myself to become so impassioned with not just the obvious, drawn out goals of
the game, but also with the paralyzing suspense present in no other sport quite as it is in soccer. I
find it to be equally as exciting play as it is to behold. Seeing how one minute movement can
completely change the outcome of the game is a marvel even to witness, let alone play. You
almost cannot afford to look away, as every match is both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, during my warm ups and exercise, my nervousness began to clear. The familiarity of
the whole process worked to calm and comfort me. A renewed sense of confidence washed over
me, only just in time for the kick off. Matches are the focal point of the sport, the release of built
up willpower, tension, and training in a dizzying ensemble. They are what the herds of raucous
and anxious spectators come to watch, and what newscasters and television channels come to
capture for millions to see. However, they are but a fraction of the bigger picture. In preparation
of an average game, we would practice on average five times for a few hours each. And that was
just at a more amateur level. At the professional level of soccer, players practice multiple times a
day, nearly every day. It is where skills pertinent to winning are gained and how the necessary
physique needed to perform physically is maintained. Albeit, this is not the only important aspect
of practicing. Bonds are formed among players as well as between players and coaches. Mutual
respect and trust are forged, which are just as crucial to have as kinetic training or equipment.
Soccer is a team sport, one in which you will not get far without working as such. Teammates,
much like warriors and soldiers, must have absolute trust and confidence in their peers. They must
be wise and selfless, knowing when to pass the ball or make the shot themselves, or

Aleksander Barkov Research Paper
Trained by an award winning figure skating coach, Aleksander Barkov worked on his mobility. In
addition, he accepted a wallbars challenge versus a 14 year old gymnast.

Kaisa Arrateig has coached Rockettes, a Helsinki based synchronized skating team, for two decades.
Under her command the team has won three World Championships and numerous Finnish

While hyping Barkov Berkshire doesn t mention Sasha s problems with skating, which is the most
limiting attribute in his game. Barkov is already an above average skater, but there s still a lot of
room for improvement.
Barkov has recognized the trend of smaller, faster and more agile players forcing their way to the
NHL. On the MTV3 interview Barkov says that he needs to keep up with the development of the
game and become a better skater.
Where cooperation between figure skating and ice hockey coaches is more established in North
America, the phenomenon isn t so familiar in Finland. Instead, the Finns have usually persisted
with their sport specific doctrines. The dogmatic and narrow minded atmosphere is fortunately
breaking down giving room for wider cooperation.
Happy to see Barkov having found a way to develop his skating, which is by far his biggest
weakness. He s been a decent skater earlier, but adding increased mobility to his skillset helps
surely him to improve his game even further.

Essay about The Arrogance of The Lie by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
The Arrogance of The Lie
The Lie, written by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., is a story that stands as a mirror to reflect the ugly image
of a condescending faction obsessed with grades and numbers, not actual learning. Even though it
took place years ago, the sickening mind frames still exist in some of today s people. They are
namely the elite group or middle to upper class families. In the story, Doctor Remenzel is obsessed
with Eli having a high standard of excellence, Eli getting special treatment because he is part of the
higher group, and for those reasons, Eli is ashamed of himself, and terrified of telling his father and
mother that he failed the entrance examinations. All of these things are examples of what ... Show

Another flaw of Doctor Remenzel that mirrors flaws in the condescending faction is the idea
that Eli should get special treatment merely because he is of the elite or higher group. This does
not show in the story until the end. In fact, the Doctor completely contradicts himself the entire
time. Sylvia Remenzel is first to bring up the idea of giving Eli any sort of special behavior.
Doctor Remenzel harshly declines the idea. An example of this would be when Doctor
Remenzel says, Let me tell you in no uncertain terms...you are not to ask for anything special for
Eli not anything. The end of the story is when the doctor does just the opposite. Once he finds
out Eli did not make it in, he thinks he can get Eli in by talking to the Board of Overseers, who

My field experience has been wonderful so far for the first semester. I have gained valuable
information for the last couple on months interning at my agency. For this self evaluation I will be
describing the1 3 and 6 9 competencies I set up at the beginning of the semester and see if I have
achieved these skills. I will also address the growth and challenges I have come upon throughout
this semester. For competency one on processional and ethical practice I wanted to demonstrate
having a professional behavior, communication, boundaries, and writing skills throughout the
semester. I also wanted to provide integrity, competence, core values, services, dignity, and worth
in the agency and my clients. In addition being aware of the mandating reporting, parental consent,
and legal consent in the school setting. I feel the growth in this competency I have gained a lot by
the agency in proving lots of training, group supervision, and individual supervision has not only
broaden my skills but have gained valuable knowledge of what to do in certain situations. For some
of the challenges I encounter at the beginning was learningabout mandating reporting and how
much work it goes into calling, summiting the paperwork all this is a curial aspect when doing a
CWS report. For example, when doing my first mandated report my supervisor stayed and walk
me through each step to make sure I did it correctly which was wonderful and learned the right

How Did John Lomax Influence Modern Popular Music
Introduction
Throughout this discussion I will be making a series of arguments that support the changes to
modern popular music that were induced by John and Alan lomax. As the work they achieved is
vast, I have broken it down into various sub categories to facilitate better analysis.
Academic
Being initially raised in the presence of cowboys it comes as no surprise that John Lomax
became interested in cowboy ballads from a young age. His parents believed that education was
important and sent John to college for a year in 1887. With his new found qualification, John
became a Principle and teacher. In 1895 John went on to further his education by studying a
Bachelor Degree at the University of Texas, signing up for double the amount of classes. In 1897
John graduated with a major in English literature. From this evidence it seems very reasonable to
suggest that John Lomax was an academic. It was during this time John showed his ballad
collection to an English professor, but it was not seen as being something worthy of academic
pursuit. John, disappointed, burned his whole ballad collection. In 1906 he went on to study at

It can also been seen how new forms of music was formed by their influence. It seems reasonable
to suggest that skiffle would never have developed in the 1950s if it were not for the
dissemination of songs by certain artists the Lomaxs had discovered. Ledbelly songs, for
example, were covered by artists such as Lonnie Donegan, whom had huge influence in this new
genera of music themselves. For example, iconic artists such as John Lennon, Jimmy Page and
Mick Jagger all started in Skiffle bands. Many artists of this time were coving songs by artists that
would not, I suggest, have be heard if it were not for the Lomaxs involvement in disseminating and
promoting

Comparing The Silk Road And Its Effect In China And The West
3. Describe the Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West.
The Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West can be best described as the primary
trade routes from China to Italy, specifically Rome. The name Silk Road would lead one to think it
was simply a road traveled much like traveling from North Carolina to California using Interstate
40. The Silk Road was much more than that. The trade routes of the Silk Road had a great and long
lasting effect on China and the West.
The Silk Road began in about 114 BCE. It was the fabled trade links between East Asia and the
West. The 5000 mile long network of caravan and sea routes stretched from Chang an to

Though silk was certainly the major trade item from China, many other goods were traded, and
religions, syncretic philosophies, and various technologies, as well as diseases, also travelled
along the Silk Road. In addition to economic trade, the Silk Road served as a means of carrying
out cultural trade among the civilizations along its network. The Silk Road became its own demise
as well. As luxury goods were exported from China throughout the world, the methods of production
that had been kept secret in China came out too. Europeans began to develop manufacturing
technics to emulate Chinese production. Europeans produced and manufactured the items only
available from China and no longer need to import from China. By the sixteenth century, the Silk
Road was no longer in use. In conclusion, the Silk Road connected the many cultures of the time.
The Silk Road promoted education and invention as all the various items imported and exported

The Effects Of Torture On Human Rights Violations
Although the use of torture has been around since the first century, most Americans did not debate
on the controversial topic until after the Abu Ghraib incident surfaced in April 2004. The Baghdad
Central Prison, formerly known as Abu Ghraib prison was a complex west of Baghdad. During the
war in Iraq, US armed forces committed a number of human rightsviolations, including pouring
phosphorus liquid on detainees, pouring cold water on naked detainees, beating detainees (Hersh)
and committing other psychological, physical, and sexual abuses. At the Abu Ghraib prison,
military officials abused detainees for several reasons or without providing a reason. Enhanced
interrogation techniquesare sometimes seen as necessary to extract information, punish detainees,
and instill fear; however, occasionally torture is used without providing a reason. Proponents of
torture insist its legitimacy in special circumstances, especially when handling international
terrorists. Opponents of torture believe these human rights violations are medieval and inhumane.
Torture is illegal in the United States and no United States agency can legally engage in torture
abroad. No country should engage in enhanced interrogation techniques because the methods are a
violation of ethical principles, a violation of international law, a form of cruel and unusual
punishment, ineffective in combating terrorism, and immoral, dehumanizing acts related to a lack
of moral integrity.

Simply Stated, Research Is A Means To Answer A Question
Simply stated, research is a means to answer a question (Mertler, 2014). There are convenient and
comfortable sources such as tradition, authority, and common sense to consult for an answer to a
question (2014). Unfortunately, these sources are unreliable and include biases of some degree
(2014). To answer a question using valid and reliable data, the scientific methodis utilized (2014). In
traditional educational research, there is the application of the scientific method to educational
topics, phenomena, or questions in search of answers (2014, p. 6) which aims to develop new
theories or to discover generalized principles and is performed by outside experts (Efron Ravid,

The Rates Of 2007-2009 And The Inflation From 2002-2007
The periods that I researched were the periods between the unemployment rates of 2007 2009
and the inflation from 2002 2007. There were many causes to the inflation in the 2002 2007.
Similarly, there were quite a few causes to the unemployment rate of 2007 2009. The business
cycle looks like a roller coaster. It begins at a peak, drops to a bottom, climbs steeply, and then
reaches another peak. Through a typical business cyclethere is an increase in the general price level
of goods and services in an economy over a period of time which leads to inflation. There are also

One of the most widely recognized indicators of a recession is higher unemployment rates.
According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, In December 2007, the national
unemployment rate was 5.0 percent, and it had been at or below that rate for the previous 30
months. At the end of the recession, in June 2009, it was 9.5 percent . Of course unemployment
is based on many factors which include those who are without jobs and are actively seeking jobs,
but does not include those who are discouraged workers. Many other factors also contribute to who
is termed as unemployed civilians. A recession is a downturn in the business cycle during which
real GDP declines, business profits fall, the percentage of the workforce without jobs rises, and
capacity of production is underutilized. The employment decline experienced between the 2007 and
2009 recession was greater than that of any recession of recent decades. The construction and

The California Dream Is Dead
The California Dream is Dead
The California Dream? More like a California Miracle. James Rawls, writer of the article
California: A Place, A People, A Dream is an optimist who believes there is still hope for the
California Dream (Rawls 14). The article was written 1984. It is not applicable to today s self
destructive California. With the population of over 38 million people, California is barely holding
itself together at this point. Even investment in the young Californians education is too costly for
the government. And with less people pursuing education, this leads to less degrees. Fewer
degrees translates to a lower employment rate. A lower employment rate means a weaker
economy. California is in the midst of a very self destructive chain that will eventually lead to
California s end. The California Dream is now a California Miracle (Johnson Ahorlu, Alvarez, and
Hurtado 24). It is too late for attempting to revive the California Dream, as now California is in self
destruction due to overpopulation and California being unable to support so many people
educationally.
California: A Place, A People, A Dream by James Rawls is an optimistic article describing
California and its ongoing success despite of its countless setbacks. Rawls claims that it is through
the pursuit of dreams that Californians continuously save California. He also proposes that the
California Dream has now become something more of paradoxes. What particularly stands out is the

Integrity In Sir Thomas More s A Man For All Seasons
In A Man for All Seasons, Sir Thomas More, the plot s protagonist, displays a reoccurring theme of
integrity. According to Webster s Dictionary, integrity is the adherence to moral and ethical
principles; and soundness of moral character. Dedicated to not losing himself by consenting to the
King s divorce, Thomas Morecontinually shows the adherence to his moralityrather than the wishes
of those around him. Even though this historic drama ultimately ends in the beheading of Sir
Thomas More, his integrity shows his devotion towards himself, his piety towards his country, and
his self respect that contrasts with the other characters.
The theme of integrity is portrayed through More s devotion to himself. The author, Robert Bolt,

Rich s selfishness shows his undeveloped morals because he hangs loosely off of friends, like

holds, which contrasts with More s morals because More will not be anything except himself.
Rich s selfishness in pleasing his own self reflects the morals that he has because he has a desire
to have power, popularity, and recognition from society.. A man with an adamantine sense of his

Diversity In New Schools
With my shift to SWA, it took me a great deal of time to research and question my decision on
going to a new school, environment and class style knowing this was going to be a decision I
couldn t go back on. With SWA having their own new switch to a new location, name and system
of sorts having a new building that houses not only high schoolers but middles schoolers and
younger! Sounds weird to have almost all grades within one build but they make it work with a
diversity of classes, schedules, and teachings. With researching how SWA works with its diversity
I saw no conflict between the diversity they have in the space they utilize, this seemed great for the
type of environment I was looking for, inviting, friendly yet work orientated to finish

The Transformation Of The Flappers In The 1920 s
In the age before the Roaring Twenties, women were still repressed and followed a strict dress
code. They wore long dress that came down to their toes, waists were cinched and arms and legs
were covered. However, in the 1920s, new generation for women begun. Trendy young women in
Western area were nicknamed the flapper. Flappers had a whole new style. They had short haircuts
called bobbed hair, wore short skirts and wore heavy makeups. The Flappers image consisted of
drastic to some, shocking changes in women s clothing and hair. Nearly every article of clothing
was trimmed down and lightened in order to make movement easier. (Rosenberg) Not only they
had a whole new style, but they had whole new attitudes and behaviors too. Flappers drank,
smoke, drove, enjoyed jazz music, and had casual sex. They were symbol of women s freedom
and liberation, as well as the symbol of change in women s life and attitudes towards the social
norms expected from women.
The term flapper first appeared in England as a popular slang to describe young girls. By the
1890s, the word flapper was emerging in England as popular slang both for a very young
prostitute, and in a more general and less derogatory sense of any lively mid teenage girl.
(Wikipedia) The term flapper stuck and emerged in the United States during the Roaring Twenties,
representing young, liberated women. Many authors and artists used the term and even serious
newspaper such as The New York Times reported about

2016 Lectures On Human Evolution
CARTA April 29, 2016 lectures on human evolution
The CARTA lectures on human evolution included lectures from Joshua Akey from the University
of Washington, Kay PrГјfer from the Mark Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, and
Tony Capra from Vanderbilt University. Each of the speakers talked in some detail about the
interbreeding of Neandertals, Denisovans, and modern humans. However, each speaker talked
about a different aspect of the breeding. Akey spoke about Neandertal and Denisovan DNAin
modern humans and their effects. PrГјfer discussed the interbreeding of Neandertals and
Denisovans and how it affects the relationship of Neanderthals and Denisovans to modern humans.
Lastly, Capra spoke on the phenotypic effects of Neandertal DNA in modern humans.
Akey opened his lecture with a question: how widespread were ancient introgression events? He
sought to answer how long ago did archaic humans and modern humans interbred and how many
times did they interbreed. Akey mentioned that for a while there was a debate whether
hybridization even occurred between archaic humans and modern humans. This was an ongoing
debate until fairly recently when there was data that was obtained through sequencing the
Neandertal and Denisovan genomes that supported that archaic humans did indeed mate with other
modern humans. He mentioned that a problem with sequencing is that it can be hard to find a
suitable specimen that has been well preserved.
Akey and his student wanted to excavate

keep the system accurate and helps track the earning and loses of the investment plan, and the
expenses and benefit distributions to the participants accounts. Employees must have a plan
provided to them from their employer that includes all information on eligibility of the benefits
and the requirements. The advantages and disadvanages should be stated and a short summary

Pros And Cons Of Rational Choice Theory
Rational choice theory is a criminology theory designed by Derek Cornish and Ronald Clark which
states that before people commit a crime they think about what they are going to do (Snook, Dhami,
Kavanagh, 2011). They consider the pros and cons before performing the criminal action. The entire
premise of the rational choice theoryis that each individual, regardless of whether rich, poor,
educated, or uneducated, all utilize rationality when making the decision to commit a crime (Taylor,
2013). The rational choice theorypostulates that when a person weighs the costs and benefits of a
crime, that person decides whether or not the benefits are worth the risk. It is about maximizing his
or her own self interest (Jacques Wright, 2010). The

Social and Study Skills
Part of a child s process in learning how to self advocate for them selves is by learning how to
develop strong social skills and also being able to use a study skills program. Part of having a
learning disability to figuring out and understand what the student s disability is and what
strategies work best for the student in a school environment. Once the child is aware of their
learning disability the special education teachers will help develop the child s social skills in a
regular and outside of classroom setting. A key component of learning how to develop social skills
is by practicing communication. The student should practice asking questions to teachers and peers.
Another great way to practice social skills if by role playing, this way the student can anticipate in
different situations what the outcome will be, and also raise their confidence.
Students who practice their communication skills can also get help in a program after or during
school called study skills. Students with learning disabilities can benefit from this program by
getting help in writing skills, test taking, proofreading strategies, time management, and life skills.
With these benefits of the study skills program children can also get help in using their
accommodations that are unique to the individual and develop from a cooperative relationship

Agreeableness reflects individual differences in concern with cooperation and social harmony.
Agreeable people are likely to get along with people effortlessly. These people are certainly to help
others at work despite any moods and rewards (Ilies, Scott Judge, 2006). They are extremely
considerate, friendly, generous, helpful, and willing to compromise their interests with others.
Thus, they will create a warm environment in the company and there is no doubt that their
colleagues would feel comfortable than ever.
Agreeable people also have an optimistic view of human nature and always look things in a bright
side. They believe people are basically honest, decent, and trustworthy (Lall Sharma, 2009). They
tend to be kinder, and to do better in interpersonally oriented jobs such as customer service as they

Eating Disorders Program Analysis
Eating disorders have long been a problem in the United States. Most fail to grasp the severity
until someone close to them experiences the difficulties. Personally, I realized the prevalence of
eating disorders when several children endeared to me commented that they feel too fat or
skipped meals in order to not become obese. Instead of a teenage friend at school that one would
assume, younger children that range from seven to ten years of age made these comments.
Realizing the problem, I decided that I would create a program that would educate younger
children regarding the seriousness and effects of eating disorders. Before designing the
program, I researched for weeks in order to find facts and statistics concerning eating disorders
in the United States. The research proved that disorders begin in children as young as age seven
or eight. Additionally, pre teenagers predominantly suffer from eating disorders. The research also
showed that countless victims remain unnoticed due to a reluctance to tell an adult. Peers lack the
education to recognize a presented disorder. In order to curb the problem, pre teens need to be
taught how to identify a disorder and how to aid a friend. To educate the pre teens, I developed a
program called I Like Me Because. The program involves an interactive slideshow that highlights
the symptoms, signs, causes, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sir Francis Galton (1869, 1883) quantified traits that were assumed to be correlated, and
developed the first comprehensive test of intelligence. By the end of the 19th century, the
foundation was laid for modern day intelligence testing (Wicket, 1998). In 1905, the French
psychologist Alfred Binet published the first modern intelligence test to identify students who
needed special help in coping with the school curriculum (Neiser, et al. 1996). Shortly thereafter
in 1908 and 1911, Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon published revisions of the Binet intelligence
test (Wicket). The mental age concept was adopted to express the results in adequate units. The
concept is based on an individual s performance in comparison to the average performance of
individuals in a specific chronological age group (Kaplin, Saccuzzo). A further refinement of the
Stanford Binet scale and translation (for American culture) was published in 1916 by Lewis M.
Terman, who adopted Stern s proposal that an individual s intelligence level be measured as an
intelligence quotient (I. Q.). The IQ score presumably represented an individual s rate of mental
development as a quotient, between mental age and actual chronological age times 100 (to remove
the decimal). Terman s test, known colloquially as the Stanford Binet test, formed the basis for

Sensitivity To Aggression Essay
sensitivity to aggression. Studies has shown that children that play violent video games
desensitize players to real life acts of violence, the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology
says that it is a reduction in emotion related physiological reactivity to real violence. It is also
proven that people who are desensitized to violenceare likely to commit a violent crime of some
type. In 2011 there was a study that resulted in the finding of a link between the exposure of
violent video games and an increase in aggressionit was the result of reduction of the brains
response to depictions of real like violence In 2005 there was another study conducted where they
found that violent video gameexposure was linked to reduced P300 amplitudes in the brain, which
is associated with desensitization to violence and increases in aggressive behavior Children tend
to go by the monkey see monkey do theory, like the Bobo Doll Experiment conducted by Bandura.
Although children that play violent video games are a little older than the children that were in
that experiment, children between the ages of 8 17 are still very impressionable. When playing
these violent video games children are likely to confuse fantasy violence with real world violence.
With being able to make decisions unethically there s a chance they might go out and mimic the
things they see on their games. In an interview with Education Week, Jane Katch a Child

  • 3. The Necklace Essay Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace is a short story about a middle class girl Mathilde, who loses her friend s costly necklace and spends a decade paying for its replacement. The Necklace represents the story of a standard young lady who loves her husband, despite her desires to be an affluent person. However, readers fail to notice that Madame Loisel s love for Monsieur Loisel vanishes upon their marriage and her materialistic personalities continue to increase. The Necklace is influencing other stories because of its elegance and love, but people will never understand the melancholy and negative reality of this narrative. Therefore, in the short storyThe Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, the protagonist Mathilde is portrayed as a dissatisfied, begrudging, and calumniating character through her perspective of her average life, her actions toward her friend Madame Forestier, and her husband Monsieur Loisel. To show that Mathilde is dissatisfied with her ordinary life, the author mentions She grieved over the shabbiness of her apartment, the dinginess of the walls, the worn out appearance of the chairs, the ugliness of the draperies (Maupassant 198). This quote tells the reader that Madame Loisel has many complaints about her lifestyle as well as her... But instead of being ecstatic, she shows her agitated state by tossing the invitation purposely to make her husband feel apologetic and ashamed. Philip: He was from Bethsaida of Galilee, the village of Peter and Andrew. Since the primary industry of this village was fishing it is likely Philip was also a fisherman. (Crouse, 2010). When he was told that Jesus was from Nazareth he replied: Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? (Crouse, 2010). Nazareth! Can anything good come from here? Come and see, said Philip (John 1:46, NIV Bible. 2005). Thomas: His name is Aramaic meaning twin. John uses the Greek rendering Didymus which means the same thing. Because of his name it is assumed that he had a twin brother or sister (Crouse, 2010). Matthew: Luke gives his name as Levi. The name Matthew (Matthias) means gift of God and may be the name given him by the Lord as he did other disciples. He was the son of Alphaeus. The name Levi could mean he was of the tribe of Levi. By profession he worked for the Romans as a tax collector. This of course means he was hated by the people. His home was Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee. (Crouse, 2010). • 6. Introduction to Cyber Crime The first recorded cyber crime took place in the year 1820! That is not surprising considering the fact that the abacus, which is thought to be the earliest form of a computer, has been around since 3500 B.C. in India, Japan and China. The era of modern computers, however, began with the analytical engine of Charles Babbage. Cyber crime is an evil having its origin in the growing dependence on computers in modern life. In a day and age when everything from microwave ovens and refrigerators to nuclear power plants is being run on computers, cyber crime has assumed rather sinister implications. Major cyber crimes in the recent past include the Citibank rip off. US $ 10 million were fraudulently transferred out of the bank and into a bank... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... E.g. Pooja has an e mail address pooja@asianlaws.org. Her enemy, Sameer spoofs her e mail and sends obscene messages to all her acquaintances. Since the e mails appear to have originated from Pooja, her friends could take offence and relationships could be spoiled for life. Email spoofing can also cause monetary damage. In an American case, a teenager made millions of dollars by spreading false information about certain companies whose shares he had short sold. This misinformation was spread by sending spoofed emails, purportedly from news agencies like Reuters, to share brokers and investors who were informed that the companies were doing very badly. Even after the truth came out the values of the shares did not go back to the earlier levels and thousands of investors lost a lot of money. Diagnostic Accuracy of a New Clinical Test (the Thessaly Test) for Early Detection of Meniscal Tears. J Bone Joint Surg Am, 87, 955 962. Part 1A Critique Quantitative Research Question What is the diagnostic accuracy of a new dynamic clinical test for the detection of meniscal tears? a)This might be of relevance because the current diagnostic gold standard (MRI) is expensive and not always available. b)Are current testing methods inaccurate? Are clinical tests inadequate compared to MRI? Introduction seemed contradictory; as seventy five per cent accuracy of diagnosis can be made on history alone (Daniel, 1982; DeHaven, 1975) followed by specific clinical tests with above average accuracy. Very brief essentially, non existent literature review. Besides mention of the population susceptible to meniscal injury, other relevant information pertaining to the injury wasn t briefed. Such as, the mechanism of injury as well as the classic signs and symptoms experienced by an individual after meniscal pathology. Neither the introduction nor the brief literature review goes over what exactly sensitivity and specificity imply in the results. Sensitivity being how good the test is at detecting meniscal tears and specificity being how good the test is at identifying normal knee (Mohan, 2007). • 8. Wonder Woman Hero Spider Man and Wonder Woman are not similar to the stereotypical heroes at the time, but they still had the attributes of a true hero. In the past, Stan Lee had thought of a superhero that would be similar to teenagers. Stan Lee wanted to construct a hero that people could relate to, and in the end he created Spider Man. Spider Man simply had the same abilities as a spider. Then in 1941, Wonder Woman made her first appearance from the mind of William Moulton Marston . William supported women s rights since his college days, and he wanted to have equality for each gender in all human activities. In addition, people believed that comics were bad for kids, but William believed not. Wonder Woman s set of skills is that she could fly, had immense speed, strength, and smarts. Additionally, Wonder Woman also wielded a lasso that could make anyone tell the truth if caught by it, and this lasso is inspired from William s polygraph, which was able to detect lies. The universal idea of this book is to always pursue your personal destiny, or in other words, to follow your dreams. Santiago, a shepherd of Andalusia, Spain, had a dream to reach the grand pyramids of Egypt. A passing king of Salem told the boy to follow his destiny, When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it (page 22) . The main idea of this book is one man s fight against racial prejudice because during the 1950s 60s, there was scandalous segregation between whites and blacks, and Malcolm X strived to end it. Malcolm X always noticed that white americans had treated black people unfairly, and he said in one of his speeches, White man wants black men to stay immoral, unclean, and ignorant. As long as we stay in these conditions we will keep on begging him and he will control us. (page 89) This story explains the life of Malcolm X from being a poor farm boy in Omaha, Nebraska, and having a tragic childhood, to becoming an inspiring human rights activist and African American Muslim minister that changed the world. He wanted to gain the black man s civil rights through militant self defense. At first, he believed that black people should follow the motto, by any means necessary , which included violence, to end the segregation, but later when he visited Mecca, he came back differently and thought that everyone was his brother, or in other words, we are all equal and should live in harmony. Malcolm X has shown to the world that a single voice can make a difference, and also to not let anyone define who you are, and instead to define yourself. • 10. The Church Of The Holy Cross Lutheran Church On Saturday 7, 2015, Alex, Michael and I drove to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church located in 11515 Ashcake Road Ashland, Virginia (about a 5 minute drive away from campus). The first thing that caught my attention was the external structure of the church. The architecture of the church is old school and it looks like a wooden house. Inside the church we could immediately tell that there were at least two floors. The top floor was where the altar was located and where the congregation took place. As soon as we stepped into the top floor, a really nice lady approached us and told us to sign a book of guests that everyone that attends the service had to sign. After we signed in, the pastor approached us and we told him that we were attending the service for a research project and that we were students from Randolph Macon College, he seemed thrilled to be able to help us. The service itself was much laid back and relatively small. There were 25 people at the church on that Saturday, and they were all very friendly. The pastor was very enthusiastic and welcoming to us. At the beginning of the service, he introduced us to everyone in the church and he encouraged us to research as much as we wanted to. In my opinion, this service was very similar to a catholic worship, or similar to the service that I used to attend when I lived in Venezuela. There was a lot of sitting, reading, standing, and singing. As we learned in class and in Williams s Religion in America, music is a very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a means for all of us to gather, give thanks, and enjoy life s little things. Or rather, the things that seem little to us while remaining quite a thing to behold in the shadows of one s own mind. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason I never even so much as remember the radical thoughts I have been introduced to throughout various sources damning the food industry. I know for a fact that I have read many articles that show aspects that make it fairly reasonable to condemn the industry for practices being somewhat demeaning for animals and humans alike. Not to mention the environmentalists that are pointing fingers every which way when it comes to the artificially made products, animal and plant alike. Albeit some of those articles have been rather one sided in comprehending the significance of the field, they have had valuable information for their side of the argument. But I digress, I do not take into consideration all of these outside factors because I have never dealt with the process of the product. I do not fully appreciate the food that is placed on the table more for the thoughts I have buried deep during the time of consumption. I do not remember why I need to appreciate it more. To have the knowledge and be able to cast it aside so easily is either a curse or a blessing...if I remember it I would never want to eat what is set before me. And if I do not remember it, I am showing much disrespect for everything that goes into processed foods. I do not condone animal cruelty and I have no viewpoint on the environment because I have a feeling there are about twenty times more things that are occurring to ravage the earth in the background that are not being discussed. I agree with Peter Singer s philosophy that we need to understand nature and develop the best theories we can to explain why things are as they are, because only in that way can we work out what the consequences of our actions are likely to be; but it would be a serious mistake to assume that natural ways of doing things are incapable of improvements (Singer ... • 13. The Ceremony Of The Lea Convocation At Grand Rapids... This past weekend I was honored to take part in the LEA convocation at Grand Rapids Michigan. As Concordia LTD education major we were invited to participate in the grow a teacher event. At this event there was a panel of veteran teachers that answered some questions we had, many of the answers they gave were very helpful. One message that a teacher had for us as future teachers was that as teachers the best gift we have is the gift of time. We only have these students for a certain amount of time and in this time we must give them everything we have. Veteran teachers have been practicing the art of time in educationto their students for quite some time now, and I wanted to know how teaching has evolved during their career. So I interviewed Gayle Harmon with one question in mind How has time changed and influenced your teaching life? Welcome to Mrs. Gayle Harmon s classroom! Mrs. Harmon has been teaching in a classroom since 1994, and has taught in many different states. Mrs. Harmon is a graduate of Concordia College and is a very proud educator. She currently is teaching second grade at Matoka Elementary school in Virginia for 8 years now, and is the team leader of her section at Matoka. These were the famous words Friedrich Nietzsche spoke and almost everyone in this world can probably relate to it.Lying seems so universal, but no one can really agree if it s warranted or not. After reviewing a few opinionated and factual articles on lying, the opinionated conclusion is lying is almost always never justified unless it is to protect someone from getting hurt. In A Philosopher On Lying , by Mary Alder, a philosopher named, Immanuel Kant, has his perspective on lying as, Don t tell someone a lie, Kant said, because then you are not treating that person with respect, as an individual. .This statement at first glance may seem valid, but let s take a closer look.If your mom had breast cancer and she told you about it but, said not to mention it to your dad for fear that he might get a heart attack, what would you do? Especially what shall you do if he asks you if you know anything about your mom acting weird lately? The majority of you reading this most likely have switched sides against Immanuel Kant, but, for those who think, Well, surely he must have had made an exception about protecting someone s life, you are wrong. It is also unlawful to retaliate against an individual for opposing employment practices that discriminate based on age or for filing an age discrimination charge, testifying, or participating in any way in an investigation, proceeding, or litigation ... However, because such inquiries may deter older workers from applying for employment or may otherwise indicate possible intent to discriminate based on age, requests for age information will be closely scrutinized to make sure that the inquiry was made for a lawful purpose, rather than for a purpose prohibited by the ADEA. В· Benefits The Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990 (OWBPA) amended the ADEA to specifically prohibit employers from denying benefits to older employees. Congress recognized that the cost of providing certain benefits to older workers is greater than the cost of providing those same benefits to younger workers, and that those greater costs would create a disincentive to hire older workers. Therefore, in limited circumstances, an employer may be permitted to reduce benefits based on age, as long as the cost of providing the reduced benefits to older workers is the same as the cost of providing benefits to younger workers. It is where skills pertinent to winning are gained and how the necessary physique needed to perform physically is maintained. Albeit, this is not the only important aspect of practicing. How Did John Lomax Influence Modern Popular Music Introduction Throughout this discussion I will be making a series of arguments that support the changes to modern popular music that were induced by John and Alan lomax. As the work they achieved is vast, I have broken it down into various sub categories to facilitate better analysis. Academic Being initially raised in the presence of cowboys it comes as no surprise that John Lomax became interested in cowboy ballads from a young age. His parents believed that education was important and sent John to college for a year in 1887. With his new found qualification, John became a Principle and teacher. In 1895 John went on to further his education by studying a Bachelor Degree at the University of Texas, signing up for double the amount of classes. In 1897 John graduated with a major in English literature. From this evidence it seems very reasonable to suggest that John Lomax was an academic. The Effects Of Torture On Human Rights Violations Although the use of torture has been around since the first century, most Americans did not debate on the controversial topic until after the Abu Ghraib incident surfaced in April 2004. The Baghdad Central Prison, formerly known as Abu Ghraib prison was a complex west of Baghdad. During the war in Iraq, US armed forces committed a number of human rightsviolations, including pouring phosphorus liquid on detainees, pouring cold water on naked detainees, beating detainees (Hersh) and committing other psychological, physical, and sexual abuses. At the Abu Ghraib prison, military officials abused detainees for several reasons or without providing a reason. James Rawls, writer of the article California: A Place, A People, A Dream is an optimist who believes there is still hope for the California Dream (Rawls 14). The article was written 1984. It is not applicable to today s self destructive California. With the population of over 38 million people, California is barely holding itself together at this point. Even investment in the young Californians education is too costly for the government. And with less people pursuing education, this leads to less degrees. Fewer degrees translates to a lower employment rate. A lower employment rate means a weaker economy. California is in the midst of a very self destructive chain that will eventually lead to California s end. The California Dream is now a California Miracle (Johnson Ahorlu, Alvarez, and Hurtado 24). It is too late for attempting to revive the California Dream, as now California is in self destruction due to overpopulation and California being unable to support so many people educationally. Sir Francis Galton (1869, 1883) quantified traits that were assumed to be correlated, and developed the first comprehensive test of intelligence. By the end of the 19th century, the foundation was laid for modern day intelligence testing (Wicket, 1998). In 1905, the French psychologist Alfred Binet published the first modern intelligence test to identify students who needed special help in coping with the school curriculum (Neiser, et al. 1996). Shortly thereafter in 1908 and 1911, Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon published revisions of the Binet intelligence test (Wicket). The mental age concept was adopted to express the results in adequate units. The concept is based on an individual s performance in comparison to the average performance of individuals in a specific chronological age group (Kaplin, Saccuzzo). A further refinement of the Stanford Binet scale and translation (for American culture) was published in 1916 by Lewis M. Terman, who adopted Stern s proposal that an individual s intelligence level be measured as an intelligence quotient (I. Q.). The IQ score presumably represented an individual s rate of mental development as a quotient, between mental age and actual chronological age times 100 (to remove the decimal). Terman s test, known colloquially as the Stanford Binet test, formed the basis for modern intelligence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Studies has shown that children that play violent video games desensitize players to real life acts of violence, the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology says that it is a reduction in emotion related physiological reactivity to real violence. It is also proven that people who are desensitized to violenceare likely to commit a violent crime of some type. In 2011 there was a study that resulted in the finding of a link between the exposure of violent video games and an increase in aggressionit was the result of reduction of the brains response to depictions of real like violence In 2005 there was another study conducted where they found that violent video gameexposure was linked to reduced P300 amplitudes in the brain, which is associated with desensitization to violence and increases in aggressive behavior Children tend to go by the monkey see monkey do theory, like the Bobo Doll Experiment conducted by Bandura. Although children that play violent video games are a little older than the children that were in that experiment, children between the ages of 8 17 are still very impressionable. When playing these violent video games children are likely to confuse fantasy violence with real world violence. With being able to make decisions unethically there s a chance they might go out and mimic the things they see on their games. In an interview with Education Week, Jane Katch a Child Development, and Childhood Education expert stated I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
