The Fall of Enron
Case: The Fall of Enron
1. Why was Enron such an admired company prior to 2000? What innovation do they bring to the
table? Be specific and support your statement with concrete information.
Enron was an admired company prior to 2000 because at that time it surfaced as a frontrunner in the
deregulated energy market, making it possible to sell energy at higher prices, thus significantly
increasing its revenue. The company, through efficient management team, has built leading businesses
in energy trading and international energy asset construction. The company has managed to maintain
high return from its investments through ideal placement of resources by creating long term and fixed
price contracts with clients that guaranteed stable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company was constantly emphasizing its stock price. The policy of stock option awards caused
management to create potential situations of rapid growth in efforts to give the appearance of reported
earnings to meet Wall Street s expectations. Although Enron s compensation and performance
management system was designed to retain and reward its most valuable employees, the system
contributed to a dysfunctional corporate culture that became interested only in short term profits to
maximize bonuses. In addition, accounting results were recorded as soon as possible to keep up with
the company s stock price. This practice helped ensure deal makers and executives received large cash
bonuses and stock options.
Enron s auditor firm was accused of applying thoughtless standards in its audits because of a conflict
of interest. The firm was generating a large amount of money for its consulting fees for Enron. The
firm s methods where questioned when it seemed as though the reports were completed only for the
annual fees to be collected. Furthermore, it was also criticized for lack of experience in reviewing the
files.
The Enron board of directors failed to closely analyze market trends, which would have led to better
decisions being made when it came to acquisitions and mergers. Because of this the company found it

Abolish Of The Electoral College
The abolishment of the electoral college has been a highly debated political topic since it was first
established by our founding fathers. The Electoral College is a voting system that was put in place by
the founding fathers back in 1787. When voters casts their ballots, they are actually voting for the
presidential electors. Each state is guaranteed at least 3 electoral votes. The number of electors a state
has is equivalent to the number of representatives they have plus the 2 seats in Senate. In total there are
538 electoral votes; including the 3 from D.C. electors. However the Presidential candidates need at
least 270 votes to win the election. However, this electoral system has created quite an uproar among
people since the last election. The electoral college has limited democracy to people in three major
ways: by having the ability to alter results of the election over the popular vote, discriminating
candidates to campaign in certain states, and subsidize the decline in voter turnout.
The electoral college has made it possible for presidential candidates to win the popular vote but not
the electoral college. This indicates that if a candidate is leading the their opponent by millions of
votes, he or she can still lose the election due to the opposing candidate getting more votes from the
smaller states in the electoral college. In the article, These 3 Common Arguments For Preserving the
Electoral College Are Wrong by Robert Speel, a professor of Political Science

Comparision of p self Protection Problem Algorithms for Static Wireless Sensor Networks Nikitha
Gullapalli
Graduate Student, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, University of South Florida
nikitha@mail.usf.edu Abstract Wireless sensor networks are being widely used in many surveillance
applications. Since sensor nodes are a critical part of sensor networks, certain level of protection needs
to be provided to them. The self protection problem focuses on using sensor nodes to provide
protection to themselves instead of the target objects or certain target area so that the sensor nodes can
resists the attacks targeting to them directly. In this paper we compare paper [1] and paper [2]. The key
research question being asked, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
KEY RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. How to determine the minimum set of sensors for covering problems of sensor networks?
Efficient centralized and distributed algorithms with constant approximation ratio for the minimum p
self protection problem in sensor networks when all sensors have the same sensing radius.
2. Is finding minimum 1 self protection a NP complete?
Yes, it is proved that finding minimum 1 self protection is NP complete by reducing the minimum set
cover problem.
3. If MIS is selected to provide certain protection to nodes, what happens after some rounds when it
already has p protections?
Purpose of selecting MIS is to provide certain protections to nodes that are not selected into the MIS.
However, this may not be necessary after some rounds for some nodes when it already has p
protections from selected active nodes Thus, for each node u, we again use p(u) to denote the
protection level (i.e., the number of active sensors that can sense this node) that it already has
achieved via previously activated sensors from MIS s.
4. Is there a smarter way to select the nodes instead of randomly?
Instead of random selection of a sensor to cover each active sensor in MIS, we can use a smarter
method to select the nodes to protect the MIS nodes with less than p protectors in the last steps of our
algorithm.
5. As each sensor has limited power and resources, how to balance the energy consumption?
To balance the energy consumption, one simple method proposed in this paper is

The Importance Of Civil Rights In The NFL Players
Players from the National Football League(NFL) are taking a stand for the violation of civil rights in
our country. This started to be an issue when Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the playing of the
national anthem. In many eyes, the ways these NFL players are expressing their opinion is very
frowned upon. It has snowballed into a heated viewpoint of the NFL and has many fans
boycotting. The NFL stars are protesting violations in civil rights in an unpopular fashion because the
national anthem is not the problem rather than the events occurring in our country, there are alternate
ways to protest, and tv ratings are crashing. The national anthem is not the problem rather than the
events occurring in our country. Colin Kaepernick said, I am not going to stand up to show pride in a
flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color, (Wyche, 2016). With his decision to
kneel during the anthem it has lead to many problems associated with the NFL. Problems associated
with his decision to kneel includes tv ratings and merchandise sells of the NFL are at an all time low.
Another problem is that teams are afraid to sign Colin Kaepernick and get in the middle of all of the
controversy surrounding him. The reason he chose to kneel during the anthem is that he has the right
to exercise whether or not he participate. He was eager in his attempts to prove a point and get his
message across. Some may feel he has done an excellent job while others are very unhappy

Feudalism In Romantic Poetry
A dictum from Heraclitus may illustrate the origin of romantic poetry, when we are awake we have a
world in common, but when we are asleep each has his own world (Quoted by O Connell 35). As
conceived from the innermost being, romantic poems have a close relationship with dream. However,
as the definitions and characteristics are controversial, some critics oppose to use the term
Romanticism . For instance, Arthur Lovejoy criticizes that Romanticism is an obscure norm when
defined by associating the nature and emotion as even Plato can be regarded as a pioneer in romantic
poetry according to this definition (Lovejoy 230). However, romantic poetry cannot be defined with a
linguistic entitle without considering the historical process (Wellek 2) for it appeared in a specific
period after the revolution in France and the Enlightenment, when the awareness of rationalism started
to spreed. Romantic poetry is a genre which is used by poets to transcend ... Show more content on

As the revolution in France altered the thoughts of poets, they initiated to use poems to resist the
unequal society. For example, leaves with cold tone are depicted in the poem Ode to the West Wind as
a representation for feudalism, which has been dying (Shelley Stanza.2), decaying (Stanza.2), and
quivering (Stanza.3), while the fierce wind accompanying with rain awakens the Mediterranean and
will drive the leaves away, implying the awareness of liberty has formed and revolutions are
generating. In the end of this poem, Shelly proposes a prophesy that the tyranny of feudalism society
will be replaced, arousing enthusiasm within the people. In this poem, substances in the nature are
applied to be symbols in order to attack the feudalism and praise the willing for liberty. Thus,
symbolism is applied in romantic poems to analyze the humanity and scorn the

Jonathan Kozol s Amazing Grace
Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
and grace will lead me home . This was taken from a section of the song Amazing Grace and is quoted
in the book as The verse that belongs to us by Reverend Groover. I found this to be one of the most
pivotal moments in the book. This story contains the lives of those who, in a sense have been left
behind and discarded. Like the man behind the story, of the song Amazing Grace, Jonathan Kozol
portrays the heart breaking reality of a population left behind and forgotten, that is until now. The
realities of how the children, parents and grandparents cope with their situations, sheds light on some
very ugly truths. Jonathan provides his readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Washington explains that once when she coming back to her daughter Charlayne s apartment
they found that it had been robbed. When they called the police to report it, no one showed up until
three hours later. When they did show they mentioned how they had heard the call but that no one
wanted to come to that side of town. One of officers said I m 24 years old. I got a new baby baby that
was just born and I got a wife and I don t want to die . Mrs. Washington answered him saying she
could relate but that if this place was that awful, how and why would the city allow small children to
grow up here. This really struck me and it deeply saddens me that anyone and especially children
could be surrounded in an environment so toxic to the development of themselves. All I wanted to do
while reading this passage was to take these children and wrap them up and provide them with the
same care and treatment I was given. It is not the parents fault who live there, it s the city s. The city

pretty rooms on the walls facing the highway. These murals were done not for the people in Mott
Haven but for the tourist, so that when they pass by they do not have to see how horribly the people
are being treated. It is almost like the government is trying to hide the fact that people do indeed live
there. The people who live Mott Haven and anywhere in the world should not be looked as black or
Hispanic but as citizens who deserve the same rights as we are offered. No one in this world should be

Economic Growth Between Economy And Institutional Changes
Lots of empirical research has studied links between economy and institutional changes. In order for
an economy to flourish, certain legal and social institutions, such as property rights, government
policy, trade and finance, must be in place.
Since its founding, especially after the 1980s, China has experienced a series of economic reforms,
such as the development of non government owned industrial economy, the opening up policy.
Unprecedented growth occurred in China, with its economy increase by 9.5% a year. Meanwhile,
sharp regional disparity becomes one of the biggest development challenges China is facing, with
metropolitan areas of the eastern coast far richer than that of central and western China. Reform along

Then the thesis uses a Cobb Douglas production function to make empirical analyses. The thesis
eventually reaches the conclusion that institutional change factor has a significant positive impact on
economic growth. Gross product will increase by 0.19% when institutional factors increase by 1%.
But its contribution to output is twice less than that of capital accumulation. Additionally, according to
error correcting model, in short term, the institutional factor are not significant, indicating that
institutional changes influence economy development through a long term channel.
The rest of this thesis is organized as below. Literatures review is in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 introduces
methology as well as data preparations. In Chapter 4, empirical results are presented and discussed.
Conclusion is in Chapter 5.
2 Literature Reviews
This chapter reviews relevant academic literatures on the research topic from both theoretical and
empirical sides. The first section is a brief introduction of theoretical background, which is primarily
about 新经济增长理论 . The second section presents some empirical studies on identification of
institutional factors as well as the relationship between institutions and economic growth. Most studies
are based on cross country data and pay more attention to developed countries. The third section
displayed a few facts about China s economic growth. Then empirical findings on China s

Theme Of Feminism In Oedipus And Medea
Feminism during the time of Oedipus and Medea centered on women actually trying to make their
voice known in the world. Today, the battle of the sexes continue; however, women have already
established their importance on society and focus fighting more for equality with men. According to
Loren Edelson s article The Trope of Transformation in Medea: A Noh Cycle, she describes the
difference between culture feminist and materialist feminism. The first focuses on the women s roles
in society while the other focuses on woman as a class oppressed by material conditions and social
relation (Edelson 59). Furthermore the feminism described in these tragedies are expressed through
their characteristics and how often they take part in the stories. In the time of these tragedies, women
were expected to be overruled by men with little or no authority over the situations they faced in their
life. Both of the main women in each of these stories live in a time where the husbands are the ruler of
the household, but these two women don t let them have all the power. Both Oedipus the King by
Sophocles and Medea by Euripides highlight feminism, through the women s characteristics, their
drive, and their actions.
In Oedipus the King the main female character is Jocasta who is both Oedipus wife and mother.
Jocasta s character is considered a very distinct woman of her time, through the way she spoke her
mind and interfered in different situations, whereas, most women of her time

Violence And The Secret Life Of Bees
While violence helps spread awareness, violence also expresses the realistic nature of the novel.
Violence is exposed throughout the everyday life as seen on media, films, and literature. The
chronicles of most nations and their societies contain violence. By hiding the content of violence is to
remain silent about it. Hiding violence just constructs it so that people are hiding a part of reality and
leading others to believe the world is not like that when it is. Furthermore, it creates a weak, naive
group of people who thinks everything is untroubled. For instance, parents who shield their children
away from violence creates a false sense of reality. Additionally, violence is a great way to understand
the world as it is. Meanwhile, the society perpetuates violence on TV, media, movies, video games, yet
it is all hypocritical to ban a book such as The Secret Life of Bees. ... Show more content on

Banning the book is not merely because of ethical reasons, but more for political reasons. It is
necessary to understand the violent issue to avoid it from being repeated. This is evident in the article
titled Books on Violence and Bullying Can Help Teens Develop Empathy when the author notes that
For life, even at its darkest, can hold the promise of hope and positive change especially when we read

books that contain violence can bring attention, positive changes to the society and the issue. Whereas,

The Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands, located about 600 miles west of continental Ecuador, contain a rich history of
settlement and exploration and represent a living example of evolution that is still relevant today. For
centuries, this chain of volcanic islands has been used uniquely by various cultures based off distinct
needs. What has remained the same however is the fact that island isolation has forced many animal
and plant species to adapt differently from one another based off their island s environmental
conditions, creating a living model of microevolution over time. Today, these models tend to be the
primary resources used by biology professors when teaching their students evolutionary topics. The

Currently there are two islands, Isabella and Fernandina, which are still being molded today, and are
thus still highly active volcanoes. The weather in the Galapagos consists of two different seasons.
Both are marked all year by freezing rain due to the Humboldt Current flowing from the south. Other
than this one similarity, the two seasons are completely opposites of one another. Constant wind and
fog as well as regular rain showers that often last entire days characterize the months of June through
November. December through May on the other hand is sunny, windless, and has very little
precipitation. The Galapagos are also affected every three to seven years by a weather cycle known as
El Nino. This climate pattern causes extreme drought, which greatly influences both terrestrial and
marine organisms. It is characterized by a warming of sea temperature, rise in sea level, and depletion
of nutrients. The Galapagos Islands hold a very extensive history marked by constant changes in
reasons for people using them. The first documented discovery of the islands occurred in 1535 when
Fray Tomas de Berlanga of Panama accidentally came cross them while attempting to sail from Peru
back to Panama. There is much controversy however in regards to the truth behind him being the first
to have found the islands. Records show that Incas used these islands for food and exploration years
before Berlanga claimed to have found them. Nevertheless, the Galapagos remained unsettled

Karl Marx s Views on Religion
Karl Marx has greatly influenced the creation of the modern world and was one of the first
revolutionary communist. Through his literary works and philosophies he helped to inspire many 20th
century communist regimes including the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, and North Korea. Marx s ideas
did not end at communism; his religious ideology also helped shape and mold the 20th century world.
Karl Marx was born in 1818 in Trier, Germany and died in 1883. He was a philosopher who turned to
economics and politics in his mid 20 s. His family was Jewish but they converted to Christianity so
that Marx s father might pursue his career as a lawyer. Marx studied law in Berlin and then wrote a
thesis for his doctorate in philosophy. Marx had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the preface to his doctoral dissertation, Marx adopted as his motto the words of the Greek hero
Prometheus who defied the gods to bring fire to humanity: I hate all gods, with addition that they do
not recognize man s self consciousness as the highest divinity (Marx).
Third, religion is hypocritical. Although it might profess valuable principles, it sides with the
oppressors. Jesus advocated helping the poor, but the Christian church merged with the oppressive
Roman state, taking part in the enslavement of people for centuries. In the Middle Ages the Catholic
Church preached about heaven, but acquired as much property and power as possible.
Martin Luther preached the ability of each individual to interpret the Bible, but sided with aristocratic
rulers and against peasants who fought against economic and social oppression. According to Marx,
this new form of Christianity, Protestantism, was a production of new economic forces as early
capitalism developed. New economic realities required a new religious superstructure by which it
could be justified and defended. In addition to critiquing religion, Karl Marx wrote about the basic
ideologies and principles on socialism and communism. In The Communist Manifesto, Marx
discusses the problems facing society and how the government is responsible for this. According to
Marx, the East Indian and Chinese markets, the colonization of America, and trade with the

Gender Roles In The Great Gatsby
Good Afternoon Ms Atkinson and fellow peers, as you can see, the texts I have chosen to discuss with
you are To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Lullaby by
W. H . Auden, all of which have modernist themes, including conforming to traditional gender roles,
time and love. To the Lighthouse revolves around the lives of the Ramsay family who are at their
holiday house, hosting some guests, including Lily Briscoe (a painter) and Charles. The family are
faced with different obstacles throughout the day, Lily with a discouraging comment from Charles and
James oppositions with his father, but in the end, despite the differences, it is clear the Mr Ramsay

for her husband, yet both of them knew that she loved him. As Mr Ramsay can be seen as a
representation of a typical modernist man, we see that like many other artists of the lost generation, he
is constantly plagued with insecurities, constantly seeking reassurance in the brokenness of the
fragmented society. In To the Lighthouse, we see that Mrs Ramsay wishes that James and Cam do not
grow any older, Oh, but she never wanted James to grow a day older! or Cam either , this is in contrast
to W. H. Auden s lullaby when he says, All the dreaded cards foretell, shall be paid, but from this

lovers will be separated, possibly by death, the author still wants to cherish the moments he can have
with his lover, and that he refuses to have any interruptions separating him and his lover till fate parts
them. W. H. Auden also writes, Time and fever burn away individual beauty stating that although
people may be extremely beautiful, but disease and time decays their beauty and ultimately, everyone
has the same ending point. Although the poet and Mrs Ramsay has conflicting attitudes about time and
love, both have an ominous feeling of an unavoidable end. Again, Woolf uses a mixture of shifting

The Psychology Of Eric Reynolds Essay
Eric Reynolds is a fifty six year old African American Vietnam veteran and plumber. He is presenting
symptoms of recurring negative intrusive memories of traumatic moments in combat; avoidance of
triggering factors, such as crowds, sudden movement, and unprovoked or unexpected touching;
negative thoughts and emotions, primarily involuntary aggression and self imposed isolation;
heightened arousal when triggered; insomnia as a result of recurring nightmares; hypervigilance; and
pressured speech when discussing traumatic content but otherwise remained articulate. These
symptom s onset occurred over thirty years prior to his current examination, after Mr. Reynolds left
combat and entered non combat operations within Vietnam. The symptoms persisted after
reintroduction to civilian life and remained chronic. Mr. Reynolds described direct exposure to trauma
by experiencing recurrent threats of death, injury, witnessing the death and injury of close compatriots.
Prior to expressing symptoms or exposure to the traumatic events, Mr. Reynolds described himself as
a happy go lucky, upbeat, and enjoyed activities such as boot camp. He did not discuss or display pre
existing disorders or history of maltreatment or trauma prior to deployment. There was no discussion
or mention of biological or inherited traits relating to trauma, anxiety, or aggression. Socioculturally

Starting At An Early Age It Became Apparent To Me That
Starting at an early age it became apparent to me that others around me seemed to be very self
centered. I grew up in a relatively poor family in Oregon that did what they could to care for my two
brothers and myself, but there were serious issues present in my family that would tear it apart. My
father was an alcoholic and would often be abusive to my mother when he drank; this started early on
in their relationship before I was born. Among alcohol problems, my father also had dealings with
various illicit substances. This eventually accumulated in my mother having an emotional breakdown
and deciding to leave for New York with a man that she had developed a relationship with online. She
gave my brothers and I the option to come with her, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

we had at the time. There were some good memories of the ranch we lived on; what child does not
enjoy living near so many animals. I remember quite well that we did not have a vehicle at this time
and we would go out every couple of weeks and walk several miles to the grocery store so that we
could backpack what we had bought back. This doesn t sound pleasant but it was actually one of the
better experiences during this time period. My father taught us that you do not need a vehicle to
survive and that there many people out there in the same situation. Once our stay had worn out at the
ranch we moved to an adjacent city to try and find another place to stay. This did not work out in the
beginning and we ended up staying a one room motel for the next month or so while my father
attempted to find employment. During this time, I met a man that still sticks in my memories to this
day. He was the principal of the school that I was attending at the time and helped our family on
numerous different occasions; he did more for us in that time then our own father did. This brought to
my attention that there are many wonderful people in the world that will do nearly anything to help
others. Eventually my father did find employment and we managed to move into a nearby

Advantages Of Two Party System
What is a party system? In Party and Party Systems , G. Sartori described it as the systems of
interactions resulting from inter party competition. Two party system in the other hand is a method
where two major political parties dominate a government. Among these two parties, one party holds
the majority of the legislation and it is referred as the majority party while the other party is referred as
the minority party. Other parties might exist but they have no political influence. For the system to
work, after an election, a sufficient working majority must be obtained by one of the parties and it
must be in a position to be able to govern without the support from the other party. In another word, it
must be independent. Therefore, it is expected to have a rotation of power ... Show more content on

An example that we can refer to as a successful two party country would be the United States, in
which the majority elected officials are either Democrats or Republicans. The same two parties, have
constituted the American two party system since the Civil War. Hence, the competition of the two
parties has been consistently close ever since. It is said that, Americans believe that the two party
system is the best method yet contrived for assuring freedom of political opposition and for organizing
power and the transfer of power. (Dickinson, 1964) which shows the strong stand of system in that
society at that time. By practising two party system, the United States have achieved political stability

The Roaring Twenties
The dawning of the 1920 s in America left a need in the citizens hearts to return to a state of normalcy
after the devastating effects of the Great War. However, the new era of isolationism spawned a cultural
revolution that can only be described as anything but normal . Heavy losses over seas left Americans
turned off to problems occurring outside of United States borders. As the citizens averted their eyes
from the problems of the world, they were left to focus their attention of forming the spectacular sense
of moral freedom of the decade. The economy flourished as well.Wall Street became an enormous
success as the introduction of credit dazzled the American people. The colossal factories which had
supplied weapons and war machinery now churned out the automobiles, radios, and abundant
excitement which would go on to define the era. The isolationist attitude also led away from the idea
of the whole and people found themselves focusing on their own needs and wants, which emphasized
the adolescent nature of the United States. The post war, isolationist minds of Americans in the roaring
twenties focused on the dream of total freedom as they strove towards liberation in their daily lives,
and were represented by the authors of the modernist fiction era.
Throughout the 1920 s decade, Americans were a part of the fevered frenzy that accompanied the
dream of total freedom; a dream that encompassed the ideas of rebellion and equality. Lucy Moore,
author of Anything Goes;

Antonio Gramsci Prison Notebooks
Antonio Gramsci s ideology adheres to the fundamental re orientation of Marxist thought applied to
the revolutionary change in the context of 20th Century Western European society. His discourse on
the dynamics of class struggle and the power of dominating institutions, forms the foundation of a
distinct cultural critique of the causes and consequences of the elite s maintenance of hegemony
(dominance) that is, through the consent of the mass of people as a result of the ruling classes
propagation of false consciousness. Whilst accepting Marx s analysis of capitalism and the ongoing
struggle between the ruling class and the subordinate working class as the driving force which
interacted within society, Gramsci put forward key concerns on ... Show more content on

This was then the main task of a socialist movement, with the intention of breaking the ideological
bonds between the ruling class and the general population. The central theme of Gramsci s theoretical
reflections in his prison notebooks is the taking and management of power by an emerging historical
force intent on creating a new civilisation. In his writings, Gramsci s exploration on the potential of
Marxism, enabled an alternative form of a communist society. In response to the emergence of a
totalitarian regime under Stalin, Professor Pellicani revived the works of Gramsci to offer an
alternative to communism which aimed at a truer Marxism devoid of coercion and evil. While the
fundamental nature of Marxism calls on the need for a utopian society, Pellicani concludes that
through an attempt to reorganise civilisation according to a single principle, totalitarianism is the
inevitable result of all programs that aim at a perfect world. In the aftermath of the Russian Revolution
and Lenin s leadership, the Russian state and its coercive arms allowed for the dictatorship of Stalin to
arise. Stalinism enforced state terror, rapid industrialisation and a command economy whereby all
society was subservient to Stalin s will. A cult of personality was developed with Stalin placed as the
super human embodiment of the Russian Revolution Stalin, man of steel; perfection of Soviet man. A
critical objective of Stalinism was the concept of a classless society. While the basis of communism
stems from marxist theory, Gramsci stressed that socialism could never be imposed from above, but
would have to be the self conscious expression of the oppressed groups

The Titanic And The Titanic
The Titanic was one of a trio. Her sisters were the Olympic and the Gigantic. These ships were made
by the White Star Lines, all of their names ending with ic . The White Star Lines were known for
making the top of the line, most luxurious ship liners of their time. The point in making luxurious and
fast ship liners were to compete and beat the German ship liners. This ship race between Germany and
Britain went clear back to the 1860 s. As Britain kept getting out bested by Germany an American
trust builder named Junius Pierpont Morgan saw a chance to make money or a monopoly. Morgan
realized the rivalry and had already monopolized U.S railroads, and wanted to to take control over the
North Atlantic Shipping Lines. Morgan s first move in 1898 was when he bought the more ran down
Inman Line. The owner of the White Star Line, Thomas Ismay, foresaw a big rate war on the North
Atlantic and resisted Morgan until his death in 1899. After Ismay s death Morgan jumped at the
opportunity to get more control by purchasing a controlling interest from the German lines, Hamburg
Amerika and Norddeutscher Lloyd. Just a year later Morgan gained control of the Leyland Line, the
Dominion Line, and the Red Star Line. His next targets were the White Star Line, and the Cunard. For
competition Morgan cut fares until his lines were a third class passage to America for as little as two
euros, ($2.38). J. Bruce Ismay, the son of Thomas Ismay, resisted Morgan like his father.

The Persian Invasion Of Greece
Introduction Through the manuscripts of Herodotus, an ancient historian who hailed from the
mountainous lands of Greece, modern day historians have been granted the ability to piece together
the multitude of events that supposedly transpired during the years 480 and 479 BC between the
Persian empire and the city states of the classical Greece (Herodotus). The second Persian invasion of
Greece, which took place in the previously mentioned years, was a part of the many series of battles
and encounters that made up the Greco Persian Wars. This invasion in particular, however, probably
saw one of the most distinguished battles in ancient European warfare befall. As a whole, the second
Persian invasion of Greece consisted of several battles that transpired within a close proximity of one
another chronologically. The war itself was fairly short lived, even for its time, lasting only the course
of approximately one year. The battles themselves took place in Thermopylae, Artemisium, Salamis,
Platae, and Mycale (Setzer). The Persian invasion forces were led by King Xerxes I of Persia, the son
of Darius I of Persia. Prior to the reign of Xerxes I, King Darius I had wanted to take control of
ancient Greece. As such, he ordered two campaigns which made up the first Persian invasion of
Greece. Much to his hindrance, however, Darius I breathed his last breath before he was presented
with the opportunity to carry out a second invasion. King Xerxes I, who was the successor of Darius I,

In summary, it cannot be said that exact cause of most severe traffic accidents are known with
certainty but it is believed that speeding and drinking, jointly or separately, play some role in the
events that lead up to those accidents. Also to blame, in many instances, are the design of the highway,
the condition of the weather, the maintenance of the vehicle, the time of the day (many severe
accidents occur at dusk, with poor lighting and tired drivers), and the presence of radar detectors. A
study by the Ohio State Police found that radar detectors were present in at least one of the vehicles
involved in 69% of all severe traffic accidents on the highways of that state in 2005. Studies in other
states have confirmed that finding, with some estimates of the relationship running as high as 75%.
The use of radar detectors is illegal in many if not most states, but neither the manufacturing nor the
marketing of the units has ever been banned by the federal government which, of course, is the sole
authority which could regulate their interstate trade. The U.S. constitution forbids any state from
restricting imports from any other state. Currently, therefore, there often occur an unusual situation in
which the use if the radar detector sets may be illegal within a given state, but the sale of those sets is
not illegal and cannot be prohibited within that state.
The manufacture and marketing of radar detectors was expanding industry,

Socrates Defense In The Apology
The Apology written by Plato, takes us on a journey of Socrates s trial. The City of Athens presented
charges accusing Socrates of impiety and for corrupting the youth of Athens. Socrates defensive
arguments take you on a trip, trying to show that the charges he s being charged with are absurd. He
goes on to defend himself by giving presumable facts as to why the prosecutors would want to
condemn him setting up the argument to automatically show that these charges are unjust. Socrates
then proceeds to address the charges brought against him addressed in the opening sentences. This
paper will confront the two methods of defense in succession.
The argument opens with Socrates telling the story of the prophecy given by the oracle at Delphi to

Why I Didn t Get A Ticket For The Boat
Please, Mr. Henderson. Melissa tugged her shawl tighter around her shoulders despite the glow of
coals from the stove inside the small brick office. Half past nine o clock and the sun had yet to break
through the morning clouds. With rain threatening, along with its tendency to turn the roads into
quagmires deep enough to swallow a horse or two, she needed to persuade the banker soon.
He glanced up at her, then returned to perusing the papers in front of him, which included the deed to
her land, Rancho Cabrillo. It had been a gamble. She d known, but still she had hoped. She didn t have

While she waited with growing impatience for his response, Melissa considered the person who now
held her fate in the palm of his hand. He was a solemn looking gentleman of about thirty. His short
blond hair was carefully combed, his mustache neatly trimmed. His well tailored suit spoke of
understated wealth, but unlike her family, he carried an air of new money. Also unlike her family, a
certain glint of kindness shone in his eyes; a kindness that renewed her hope and strengthened her
resolve. Maybe he would be the one to say yes.
But then his gaze dropped his. The tapping ceased and he leaned forward, sliding the stack of papers
back to her. I wish I could help you, Doña Cabrillo. I truly do. Unfortunately, the Mexican government
issued this deed.
I inherited Rancho Cabrillo when my husband died, and I am an American. Born and raised in New

disorder which has no known etiology and no cure (Ryan, Hughes, Katsiyannis, McDaniel Sprinkle,

Research into the prognosis, outcomes and effective interventions for adults is very limited (Howlin
Moss, 2012). Research has shown that as adults, many people with ASD, including those of normal
IQ, are significantly disadvantaged regarding employment, social relationships, physical and mental
health, and quality of life (Howlin Moss, 2012). Among adults living with ASD studied, fewer than
twenty percent were living independently or semi independently, less than half are engaged in some
form of work or educational program and an average of fourteen percent were rated as being married
or being in a long term intimate relationship (Howlin Moss, 2012). Early language development and
IQ are reliable indicators in determining positive outcomes for adults living with ASD, however many
individuals with high IQ or language ability still do poorly in adulthood (Howlin Moss, 2012).
Research has shown one of the greatest indicators of positive outcomes for adults living with ASD is
their level of support. A high level of community support has shown to influence prognosis for adults
with ASD and those who experience this were more likely to be employed, to have formed close
relationships and to rate their outcomes as good or very good (Howlin Moss, 2012). There is a
significant need for additional ongoing research into the lives of those diagnosed, as well as research

program by starting three teams in La Crosse, WI; Team 4021 at Luther High School, Team 4011 at
Aquinas High School, and Team 4054 at La Crosse Central High School. Together we formed the
beginning of the 7 Rivers Robotics Coalition. This philosophy of helping and working together as a
cohesive alliance of teams carries us forward and remains a major motivation in our team today.
One of the highlights of our season each year is the 7 RRC Week Zero Event; a mini competition run
by our coalition the last Sunday of the build season. Teams in the coalition take turns hosting this
useful and exciting clash. After our first week zero event, Team 4021, one of the teams we started in
2012, went on to win the Rookie All Star Award. Two years later, the Sir Lancer Bots started three
more teams; Team 5019 in West Salem, Team 5339 in Houston, and Team 5003 in Onalaska. During
the 2014 season West Salem and Houston both won the Rookie All Star award at their respective
competitions. In 2014, the Seven Rivers Robotics Coalition became a 501 (c)3 non profit organization.
Individual teams have become non profits before, but never before had a group of teams been

The Interpretive Approach For Communication
The Interpretive Approach to Communication In communication, there are three different approaches:
social science, interpretive, and critical. All three approaches differ greatly in their paradigms, or
belief systems, on how the study of communication should be approached. Of the three approaches,
the Interpretive Approach is the one that suits me the best. Why you might ask? Simply put, it just
makes sense. The interpretive Approach, also referred to as the Humanistic Approach, is looking at
communication through a system of thoughts that celebrate human nature and it s potential. Simply
put, this approach looks specifically at human nature as it pertains to a specific person, or specific
group, as a whole rather than the general consensus. As with the other methods, the Interpretive
Approach has it s own assumptions, theories and methods, ethical issues, and strengths and
limitations. When studying communication, there are certain assumptions to be made. These
assumptions vary depending on the paradigm that the researcher is following. In the Interpretive
Approach, the major assumption is that humans construct their own reality, and researchers must tap
into and understand that reality. This could not be truer, as everyone has their own perception of the
world around them and reality in general. It is also assumed that the focus will be on the
communicator. The Interpretive Approach draws focus on the creativity of humans rather than our
predictability. Following the

On a Friday night almost nine clocks. I and my family were getting the table dinner ready for our
guest for tonight. Everyone seems to be happy that we have company coming in. the bell door rang, I
rush to the door to open it. Thomas Jefferson The Founding Father arrived. I was honored to have him
in my house. I expected all of them to come together at the same time, so we don t have to wait for
others in order to eat. I took him to his seat and I told him to make yourself at home. The doorbell
rang again, I opened the door. There was C.S. Lewis, his Holiness the Dalai Lama, Gretchen Rubin
and Jennifer Michael Hecht standing in line. I was like thank god they came at the same time. I took
them to their seats. Before we began eating I told them how happy am I see them and to eat with them.
Everyone started eating, While I was eating I was thinking about how happy am I. I asked myself why
am I happy right now. Then, I asked everyone at the table, what makes people happy? Is it freedom,
money, or pleasure and desire. Jefferson pulls his head up from the dinner plate and said: that s a good
question . According to Jefferson freedom, what makes people happy. The others kept eating than C.S
Lewis stopped eating. He looked at me, then at Jefferson. Lewis kind of agreed with that, but not to
the point where your action hurt others (228). It was interesting to think that people might be happy
even though they know that they are hurting someone. Lewis explained that the

Public Health Care Intergovernmental Analysis
The most challenging key to the development of a successful public health care agencies is the
effectiveness of an intergovernmental (federal, state and local) relations. However, their relationship
between these orders of governments is interdependent. The federal, state and the local governments
work together as a team to provide coordinated and a very comprehensive approach towards the role
of public agencies (offer support).
The roles of the intergovernmental (federal, state and local) protect and advance the interest of the
society, which includes provision of high quality health care. Notwithstanding that, it is highly
impossible for the public health care agencies (PHAs) alone to offer access to quality health care.
Therefore, the federal, state and local governments comes in or intervenes by preserving the interest of
its citizens through improving the areas of gaps and regulates any form of inefficiency and or injustice
within the public health agencies. Also, the governments make provisions for resources like data on
travellers, which detects any early or new disease. The idea is to ... Show more content on

For all what Levi had gone through must be the scariest experience. It started off from Levi s life how
he was pursuing his career as a Chemist, then all of the sudden, Germans just had to take over Italy

Germans who are in charge of looking after the Jews, they treat them like animals, not human being.
Hardly any food for them to eat, forced them to work, everyone looked the same by having their heads

Relevant Revenues and Costs
CHAPTER 2:
RELEVANT REVENUES AND COSTS
The primary goal of a firm is to maximize profits. This implies, of course, that each decision a
manager makes is consistent with that goal. Although managers are expected to rely on internally
produced reports, such as balance sheets and income statements, to help them make decisions, most of
the information that appears on these statements is period based rather than decision based. A balance
sheet shows the sum total of a firm s assets and liabilities at a given point in time. If the firm sold off
all of its assets at book value and used the proceeds to pay its liabilities, what remains is owner s
equity: the amount that is owed to shareholders. An income statement is the difference ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the decision is implemented, revenues will rise from $3,000 to $3,200, or by $200. The $200
increase in revenue is the relevant revenue. Note that the relevant revenue is not simply the revenues
generated by the additional 100 boxes. If that were true, revenues would rise by $8 x 100 boxes, or
$800. Instead, the relevant revenues incorporate the fact that the 300 boxes that could have been sold
for $10 will also be sold for $8. In other words, to sell the additional 100 boxes for $800, the group
sacrificed $600 on the first 300 boxes. Hence, the decision caused the group s revenue to rise by $800
$600, or $200.
The relevant cost in this example is the change in the group s cost if the decision to lower the price is
implemented. Because each box costs the group $3, if it lowers the price to $8, it will sell 100
additional boxes at a cost of $3, causing costs to rise by $300.
If we compare the relevant revenues with the relevant costs, we can see that the group should not
lower its price. If it does, its revenues will rise by $200 whereas its cost will increase by $300. It will
be $100 worse off by lowering its price.
This can also be seen by examining total revenues and costs. At a price of $10, the group s revenue is
$10 x 300, or $3,000 and its costs are $3 x 300, or $900, leaving a profit of $2,100. If it charges $8, its
revenues will be $3,200 ($8 x 400) and its costs will be equal to $1,200 ($3 x 400), for a

  • 2. The Fall of Enron Case: The Fall of Enron 1. Why was Enron such an admired company prior to 2000? What innovation do they bring to the table? Be specific and support your statement with concrete information. Enron was an admired company prior to 2000 because at that time it surfaced as a frontrunner in the deregulated energy market, making it possible to sell energy at higher prices, thus significantly increasing its revenue. The company, through efficient management team, has built leading businesses in energy trading and international energy asset construction. The company has managed to maintain high return from its investments through ideal placement of resources by creating long term and fixed price contracts with clients that guaranteed stable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The company was constantly emphasizing its stock price. The policy of stock option awards caused management to create potential situations of rapid growth in efforts to give the appearance of reported earnings to meet Wall Street s expectations. Although Enron s compensation and performance management system was designed to retain and reward its most valuable employees, the system contributed to a dysfunctional corporate culture that became interested only in short term profits to maximize bonuses. In addition, accounting results were recorded as soon as possible to keep up with the company s stock price. This practice helped ensure deal makers and executives received large cash bonuses and stock options. Enron s auditor firm was accused of applying thoughtless standards in its audits because of a conflict of interest. The firm was generating a large amount of money for its consulting fees for Enron. The firm s methods where questioned when it seemed as though the reports were completed only for the annual fees to be collected. Furthermore, it was also criticized for lack of experience in reviewing the files. The Enron board of directors failed to closely analyze market trends, which would have led to better decisions being made when it came to acquisitions and mergers. Because of this the company found it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Abolish Of The Electoral College The abolishment of the electoral college has been a highly debated political topic since it was first established by our founding fathers. The Electoral College is a voting system that was put in place by the founding fathers back in 1787. When voters casts their ballots, they are actually voting for the presidential electors. Each state is guaranteed at least 3 electoral votes. The number of electors a state has is equivalent to the number of representatives they have plus the 2 seats in Senate. In total there are 538 electoral votes; including the 3 from D.C. electors. However the Presidential candidates need at least 270 votes to win the election. However, this electoral system has created quite an uproar among people since the last election. The electoral college has limited democracy to people in three major ways: by having the ability to alter results of the election over the popular vote, discriminating candidates to campaign in certain states, and subsidize the decline in voter turnout. The electoral college has made it possible for presidential candidates to win the popular vote but not the electoral college. This indicates that if a candidate is leading the their opponent by millions of votes, he or she can still lose the election due to the opposing candidate getting more votes from the smaller states in the electoral college. In the article, These 3 Common Arguments For Preserving the Electoral College Are Wrong by Robert Speel, a professor of Political Science ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparision of p self Protection Problem Algorithms for Static Wireless Sensor Networks Nikitha Gullapalli Graduate Student, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, University of South Florida nikitha@mail.usf.edu Abstract Wireless sensor networks are being widely used in many surveillance applications. Since sensor nodes are a critical part of sensor networks, certain level of protection needs to be provided to them. The self protection problem focuses on using sensor nodes to provide protection to themselves instead of the target objects or certain target area so that the sensor nodes can resists the attacks targeting to them directly. In this paper we compare paper [1] and paper [2]. The key research question being asked, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... KEY RESEARCH QUESTIONS 1. How to determine the minimum set of sensors for covering problems of sensor networks? Efficient centralized and distributed algorithms with constant approximation ratio for the minimum p self protection problem in sensor networks when all sensors have the same sensing radius. 2. Is finding minimum 1 self protection a NP complete? Yes, it is proved that finding minimum 1 self protection is NP complete by reducing the minimum set cover problem. 3. If MIS is selected to provide certain protection to nodes, what happens after some rounds when it already has p protections? Purpose of selecting MIS is to provide certain protections to nodes that are not selected into the MIS. However, this may not be necessary after some rounds for some nodes when it already has p protections from selected active nodes Thus, for each node u, we again use p(u) to denote the protection level (i.e., the number of active sensors that can sense this node) that it already has achieved via previously activated sensors from MIS s. 4. Is there a smarter way to select the nodes instead of randomly? Instead of random selection of a sensor to cover each active sensor in MIS, we can use a smarter method to select the nodes to protect the MIS nodes with less than p protectors in the last steps of our algorithm. 5. As each sensor has limited power and resources, how to balance the energy consumption? To balance the energy consumption, one simple method proposed in this paper is ... • 6. The Importance Of Civil Rights In The NFL Players Players from the National Football League(NFL) are taking a stand for the violation of civil rights in our country. This started to be an issue when Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the playing of the national anthem. In many eyes, the ways these NFL players are expressing their opinion is very frowned upon. It has snowballed into a heated viewpoint of the NFL and has many fans boycotting. The NFL stars are protesting violations in civil rights in an unpopular fashion because the national anthem is not the problem rather than the events occurring in our country, there are alternate ways to protest, and tv ratings are crashing. The national anthem is not the problem rather than the events occurring in our country. Colin Kaepernick said, I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color, (Wyche, 2016). With his decision to kneel during the anthem it has lead to many problems associated with the NFL. Problems associated with his decision to kneel includes tv ratings and merchandise sells of the NFL are at an all time low. Another problem is that teams are afraid to sign Colin Kaepernick and get in the middle of all of the controversy surrounding him. The reason he chose to kneel during the anthem is that he has the right to exercise whether or not he participate. He was eager in his attempts to prove a point and get his message across. • 7. Feudalism In Romantic Poetry A dictum from Heraclitus may illustrate the origin of romantic poetry, when we are awake we have a world in common, but when we are asleep each has his own world (Quoted by O Connell 35). As conceived from the innermost being, romantic poems have a close relationship with dream. However, as the definitions and characteristics are controversial, some critics oppose to use the term Romanticism . For instance, Arthur Lovejoy criticizes that Romanticism is an obscure norm when defined by associating the nature and emotion as even Plato can be regarded as a pioneer in romantic poetry according to this definition (Lovejoy 230). However, romantic poetry cannot be defined with a linguistic entitle without considering the historical process (Wellek 2) for it appeared in a specific period after the revolution in France and the Enlightenment, when the awareness of rationalism started to spreed. Romantic poetry is a genre which is used by poets to transcend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the revolution in France altered the thoughts of poets, they initiated to use poems to resist the unequal society. For example, leaves with cold tone are depicted in the poem Ode to the West Wind as a representation for feudalism, which has been dying (Shelley Stanza.2), decaying (Stanza.2), and quivering (Stanza.3), while the fierce wind accompanying with rain awakens the Mediterranean and will drive the leaves away, implying the awareness of liberty has formed and revolutions are generating. In the end of this poem, Shelly proposes a prophesy that the tyranny of feudalism society will be replaced, arousing enthusiasm within the people. In this poem, substances in the nature are applied to be symbols in order to attack the feudalism and praise the willing for liberty. This was taken from a section of the song Amazing Grace and is quoted in the book as The verse that belongs to us by Reverend Groover. I found this to be one of the most pivotal moments in the book. This story contains the lives of those who, in a sense have been left behind and discarded. Like the man behind the story, of the song Amazing Grace, Jonathan Kozol portrays the heart breaking reality of a population left behind and forgotten, that is until now. This really struck me and it deeply saddens me that anyone and especially children could be surrounded in an environment so toxic to the development of themselves. All I wanted to do while reading this passage was to take these children and wrap them up and provide them with the same care and treatment I was given. It is not the parents fault who live there, it s the city s. The city sections off these people like they are lepers. For example, they put murals of beautiful flowers and pretty rooms on the walls facing the highway. These murals were done not for the people in Mott Haven but for the tourist, so that when they pass by they do not have to see how horribly the people are being treated. It is almost like the government is trying to hide the fact that people do indeed live there. The people who live Mott Haven and anywhere in the world should not be looked as black or Hispanic but as citizens who deserve the same rights as we are offered. In order for an economy to flourish, certain legal and social institutions, such as property rights, government policy, trade and finance, must be in place. Since its founding, especially after the 1980s, China has experienced a series of economic reforms, such as the development of non government owned industrial economy, the opening up policy. Unprecedented growth occurred in China, with its economy increase by 9.5% a year. Additionally, according to error correcting model, in short term, the institutional factor are not significant, indicating that institutional changes influence economy development through a long term channel. • 12. Theme Of Feminism In Oedipus And Medea Feminism during the time of Oedipus and Medea centered on women actually trying to make their voice known in the world. Today, the battle of the sexes continue; however, women have already established their importance on society and focus fighting more for equality with men. According to Loren Edelson s article The Trope of Transformation in Medea: A Noh Cycle, she describes the difference between culture feminist and materialist feminism. The first focuses on the women s roles in society while the other focuses on woman as a class oppressed by material conditions and social relation (Edelson 59). Furthermore the feminism described in these tragedies are expressed through their characteristics and how often they take part in the stories. In the time of these tragedies, women were expected to be overruled by men with little or no authority over the situations they faced in their life. Both of the main women in each of these stories live in a time where the husbands are the ruler of the household, but these two women don t let them have all the power. Both Oedipus the King by Sophocles and Medea by Euripides highlight feminism, through the women s characteristics, their drive, and their actions. In Oedipus the King the main female character is Jocasta who is both Oedipus wife and mother. Jocasta s character is considered a very distinct woman of her time, through the way she spoke her mind and interfered in different situations, whereas, most women of her time ... Violence is exposed throughout the everyday life as seen on media, films, and literature. The chronicles of most nations and their societies contain violence. By hiding the content of violence is to remain silent about it. Hiding violence just constructs it so that people are hiding a part of reality and leading others to believe the world is not like that when it is. Furthermore, it creates a weak, naive group of people who thinks everything is untroubled. For instance, parents who shield their children away from violence creates a false sense of reality. For centuries, this chain of volcanic islands has been used uniquely by various cultures based off distinct needs. What has remained the same however is the fact that island isolation has forced many animal and plant species to adapt differently from one another based off their island s environmental conditions, creating a living model of microevolution over time. The weather in the Galapagos consists of two different seasons. Both are marked all year by freezing rain due to the Humboldt Current flowing from the south. Other than this one similarity, the two seasons are completely opposites of one another. Constant wind and fog as well as regular rain showers that often last entire days characterize the months of June through November. December through May on the other hand is sunny, windless, and has very little precipitation. The Galapagos are also affected every three to seven years by a weather cycle known as El Nino. This climate pattern causes extreme drought, which greatly influences both terrestrial and marine organisms. It is characterized by a warming of sea temperature, rise in sea level, and depletion of nutrients. The Galapagos Islands hold a very extensive history marked by constant changes in reasons for people using them. The first documented discovery of the islands occurred in 1535 when Fray Tomas de Berlanga of Panama accidentally came cross them while attempting to sail from Peru back to Panama. The central theme of Gramsci s theoretical reflections in his prison notebooks is the taking and management of power by an emerging historical force intent on creating a new civilisation. In his writings, Gramsci s exploration on the potential of Marxism, enabled an alternative form of a communist society. In response to the emergence of a totalitarian regime under Stalin, Professor Pellicani revived the works of Gramsci to offer an alternative to communism which aimed at a truer Marxism devoid of coercion and evil. While the fundamental nature of Marxism calls on the need for a utopian society, Pellicani concludes that through an attempt to reorganise civilisation according to a single principle, totalitarianism is the inevitable result of all programs that aim at a perfect world. In the aftermath of the Russian Revolution and Lenin s leadership, the Russian state and its coercive arms allowed for the dictatorship of Stalin to arise. Stalinism enforced state terror, rapid industrialisation and a command economy whereby all society was subservient to Stalin s will. A cult of personality was developed with Stalin placed as the super human embodiment of the Russian Revolution Stalin, man of steel; perfection of Soviet man. The Persian Invasion Of Greece Introduction Through the manuscripts of Herodotus, an ancient historian who hailed from the mountainous lands of Greece, modern day historians have been granted the ability to piece together the multitude of events that supposedly transpired during the years 480 and 479 BC between the Persian empire and the city states of the classical Greece (Herodotus). The second Persian invasion of Greece, which took place in the previously mentioned years, was a part of the many series of battles and encounters that made up the Greco Persian Wars. This invasion in particular, however, probably saw one of the most distinguished battles in ancient European warfare befall. A study by the Ohio State Police found that radar detectors were present in at least one of the vehicles involved in 69% of all severe traffic accidents on the highways of that state in 2005. • 30. The Interpretive Approach For Communication The Interpretive Approach to Communication In communication, there are three different approaches: social science, interpretive, and critical. All three approaches differ greatly in their paradigms, or belief systems, on how the study of communication should be approached. Of the three approaches, the Interpretive Approach is the one that suits me the best. Why you might ask? Simply put, it just makes sense. The interpretive Approach, also referred to as the Humanistic Approach, is looking at communication through a system of thoughts that celebrate human nature and it s potential. Simply put, this approach looks specifically at human nature as it pertains to a specific person, or specific group, as a whole rather than the general consensus. As with the other methods, the Interpretive Approach has it s own assumptions, theories and methods, ethical issues, and strengths and limitations. When studying communication, there are certain assumptions to be made. These assumptions vary depending on the paradigm that the researcher is following. In the Interpretive Approach, the major assumption is that humans construct their own reality, and researchers must tap into and understand that reality. This could not be truer, as everyone has their own perception of the world around them and reality in general. It is also assumed that the focus will be on the communicator. The Interpretive Approach draws focus on the creativity of humans rather than our predictability. Following the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I expected all of them to come together at the same time, so we don t have to wait for others in order to eat. I took him to his seat and I told him to make yourself at home. The doorbell rang again, I opened the door. There was C.S. Lewis, his Holiness the Dalai Lama, Gretchen Rubin and Jennifer Michael Hecht standing in line. I was like thank god they came at the same time. I took them to their seats. Before we began eating I told them how happy am I see them and to eat with them. Everyone started eating, While I was eating I was thinking about how happy am I. I asked myself why am I happy right now. Then, I asked everyone at the table, what makes people happy? Is it freedom, money, or pleasure and desire. Jefferson pulls his head up from the dinner plate and said: that s a good question . According to Jefferson freedom, what makes people happy. The others kept eating than C.S Lewis stopped eating. He looked at me, then at Jefferson. Lewis kind of agreed with that, but not to the point where your action hurt others (228). It was interesting to think that people might be happy even though they know that they are hurting someone. Lewis explained that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Public Health Care Intergovernmental Analysis The most challenging key to the development of a successful public health care agencies is the effectiveness of an intergovernmental (federal, state and local) relations. However, their relationship between these orders of governments is interdependent. The federal, state and the local governments work together as a team to provide coordinated and a very comprehensive approach towards the role of public agencies (offer support). The roles of the intergovernmental (federal, state and local) protect and advance the interest of the society, which includes provision of high quality health care. Notwithstanding that, it is highly impossible for the public health care agencies (PHAs) alone to offer access to quality health care. Therefore, the federal, state and local governments comes in or intervenes by preserving the interest of its citizens through improving the areas of gaps and regulates any form of inefficiency and or injustice within the public health agencies. • 33. Survival In Auschwitz by Primo Levi There moments when people just look back in time how situation drastically changed to modern time. If they refuse to do what the Germans tell them to do, they ll just kill them. Many Jews died by murder, starvation, or living with diseases living in camps. He survived in camps for 10 months, and was known as greatest author and a survivor, throughout his life experiences. For all what Levi had gone through must be the scariest experience. It started off from Levi s life how he was pursuing his career as a Chemist, then all of the sudden, Germans just had to take over Italy and capture many Jews as possible to either send them to camps or get rid of their life. It is unbelievable to think about before time of Holocaust, Germans and all only do is just kill people, force them to do things they really don t deserve to do like working in factories. It is also unbelievable that Germans who are in charge of looking after the Jews, they treat them like animals, not human being. Hardly any food for them to eat, forced them to work, everyone looked the same by having their heads shaved and getting their arms tattooed with code numbers. Just reading through Levi s partial life experience living in Auschwitz, is just incredible how he manages to remember the worst times he had seen and done. The greatest and worst times will always be glued into a human s brain. It s amazing how he s able to tell a story to tell by just writing what he remembered from experience into a ... • 36. Relevant Revenues and Costs CHAPTER 2: RELEVANT REVENUES AND COSTS The primary goal of a firm is to maximize profits. This implies, of course, that each decision a manager makes is consistent with that goal. Although managers are expected to rely on internally produced reports, such as balance sheets and income statements, to help them make decisions, most of the information that appears on these statements is period based rather than decision based. A balance sheet shows the sum total of a firm s assets and liabilities at a given point in time. If the firm sold off all of its assets at book value and used the proceeds to pay its liabilities, what remains is owner s equity: the amount that is owed to shareholders. An income statement is the difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the decision is implemented, revenues will rise from $3,000 to $3,200, or by $200. The $200 increase in revenue is the relevant revenue. Note that the relevant revenue is not simply the revenues generated by the additional 100 boxes. If that were true, revenues would rise by $8 x 100 boxes, or $800. Instead, the relevant revenues incorporate the fact that the 300 boxes that could have been sold for $10 will also be sold for $8. In other words, to sell the additional 100 boxes for $800, the group sacrificed $600 on the first 300 boxes. Hence, the decision caused the group s revenue to rise by $800 $600, or $200. The relevant cost in this example is the change in the group s cost if the decision to lower the price is implemented. Because each box costs the group $3, if it lowers the price to $8, it will sell 100 additional boxes at a cost of $3, causing costs to rise by $300. If we compare the relevant revenues with the relevant costs, we can see that the group should not lower its price. If it does, its revenues will rise by $200 whereas its cost will increase by $300. It will be $100 worse off by lowering its price. This can also be seen by examining total revenues and costs. At a price of $10, the group s revenue is $10 x 300, or $3,000 and its costs are $3 x 300, or $900, leaving a profit of $2,100. If it charges $8, its revenues will be $3,200 ($8 x 400) and its costs will be equal to $1,200 ($3 x 400), for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
