Child Prostitution And Domestic Violence
This is supposed to be a free country. We the people are supposed to have the right to make decisions
in our own individual lives that will benefit our future. But in this country the government puts so
much restraint on an individual when they want an abortion, maybe an individual wants to clone for
personal reasons, use contraceptive, or die under their own will. Those choices are an individual s own
morality and should not be judged when living in a free country. What about Child Prostitution or
Domestic Violence that are not individual choices? Why do those two phenomenon s seem to be
looked over and the court doesn t have a strong hand in developing a solution in such resilient issues?
Child Prostitution is one of the most overlooked injustice for children. These poor kids live in a
country where the courts are more worried about individual rights instead of the well being of children
who have lost their innocence. The trade of human beings, most commonly for the purpose of sexual
slavery or forced labor is known as Human Trafficking. This type of trade for sex is a very lucrative
industry, coming second to drug trafficking as the most profitable illegal industry in the world. When
most Americans hear the words sex trafficking, they think Thailand, Africa, and Eastern Europe. This
systematical belief that the United States does not endure such behavior is a communal afterthought
and considered incredulous to many citizens. Nevertheless, prostitution is a growing

Shell Political Risk in Nigeria

Final Exam 1. Political risk and country risk are challenges that must be strategically considered by
multinational firms. What is one real world firm that deals with political and country risk?
Answer: Temasek Holdings company
In what nation does the risk occur and in what ways?
Answer: In South East Asia, Thailand Temasek face Political Risk in Thailand
When Singapore s state run investment arm Temasek Holdings bought Thailand s Shin Corp
telecommunications conglomerate in 2006, its 73 billion baht (US$2.2 billion) acquisition of Shin
Satellite was a strategic afterthought. Temasek was known to have purchased Shin Corp from ... Show

The way of assessing the effectiveness of Temasek s political risk management strategies would be to
evaluate gains and losses that may be associated with the political risks which were taken.
Temasek investment portfolio and approach expose it to higher political risk. Then Temasek should
avoid investments in iconic overseas companies, go for minority stakes in future investments, and
seek local partners in making acquisitions.
Temasek should start to give press interviews. This can be interpreted as part of a targeted public
relations campaign that operates on two levels: on a broader, strategic level, to dispel suspicions and
rumors on Singapore and on a specific, tactical level, to clarify public doubts on individual
investments.
Temasek should following the path by many multinationals to win over local communities by building
a more visible corporate citizen image like Temasek Foundation which has focus areas including the
promotion of exchange programs among different languages/religions/cultures, and support for
disaster emergency relief and recovery in Asia
And Thai government should improve standard legal and institutional framework, enhancement of
good governance and transparency, capacity building, ensuring fair competition, balanced
liberalization and sustainable development, full participation of the host economy

Iraq War A Pragmatist
Unfortunately, the hawks views and previous actions in which they prevented the U.S. from agreeing
with or joining multilateral groups triggered a firestorm among foreign and domestic critics. To
differentiate, the pragmatists, or constructive realists, believed that the U.S. goals would be better
achieved by working within the post 1945 institutional framework that they had helped to build. They
knew that a unilateral military campaign would do irreparable damage to U.S. long term interests, and
that the results would be problematic. The United States would be in a stronger position to deal with
Iraq if it had carefully built up international support the pragmatists accepted that institutions such as

joined bush in multilateral action against Iraq, there would ve been guaranteed outside help for post
war reconstruction. In addition to that, because Congress risky sentiment was strongly in favor of prior
congressional authorization for any military action, going to the U.N. shared and balanced control and
over the situation. And it wasn t only congress who was feeling pressured to act aggressively. The
Democrats were uncomfortable with being called dovish, so they were reluctant to oppose military
action too ardently. Summed up, it seemed that many people were not in the proper mental state to
take such a critical decision. I think they were too ready to jump into war without a second thought. So
the U.N. would be able to detect and influence those thoughts to a more calm route and try to prevent
war, although it ended up unsuccessful.
I do think that the United States specifically was a different case from the other five great powers in
this time period. The U.S. had just experienced one of its worst terrorist attacks in history. So it had its
guard up for sure, unlike the other countries, who either were used to the terrorist issues or had not yet
dealt with an attack similar to that of

The Importance Of Poverty In South Korea
Over the summer, I traveled to Seoul, South Korea. One day, I decided to walk down streets of
Hongdae to see what everyone was doing. There were people everywhere; they were rushing around
hurriedly and frantically studying in cafés that lined the street. I turned down a side road to the front of
a temple, where I saw homeless people sitting on the ground, holding their hands out for even ₩10 (a
penny in US dollars). I walked further along onto the main road and found a mob of people protesting
various things in the middle of the street. This scene of endless work, poverty, and injustice is found
all over the world, not just in South Korea. With a world that consists of seeing so many terrible
events happening daily, the world needs hope.
One issue that reveals the need for hope is poverty. The 2015 Census found that 13.5% of America s
population was in poverty, and this number has probably risen up even higher as years have passed by
( Current Poverty Rate ). There are so many people in the world who are stuck in poverty and may
also feel resigned to being in poverty and not being able to do anything about it. Another issue that
shows the need for hope is war. The world is constantly talking about being on the verge of worldwide
conflict, and daily on the news, you see new stories about how tensions are rising that could lead us to
immediate nuclear war. For example, almost every day now, we hear stories about how North Korea
keeps threatening the world with the

Light And Darkness In Heart Of Darkness
Light and dark are generally juxtaposed to highlight the maleficent and the beneficent. Alternatively,
in both Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and Native Guard by Natasha Trethewey, light and dark
symbolism is used to convey that an outward appearance can conflict with what is lying underneath.
Conrad shows that greed can be hidden under seemingly good intentions, and Trethewey shows that
physical traits do not tell one s whole story.
In the novella Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses light and dark to represent life and death. Although the
Europeans believe they are bringing light and life to the Congo, in reality, they are bringing darkness
and death. Sometimes one s real intentions can be eclipsed by their actions. While Marlow is in the
Congo, he witnesses disturbing sights. For example, one of the first things Marlow sees in the Congo
is a few natives dying slowly with looks of pain and despair while leaning against trees (Conrad 19).
Even with this, Marlow is generally unaffected and focuses more on the landscape than the people
dying. In order to disassociate from the bad, Marlow tends to focus on unimportant details, which
plays into how the evil, underlying motives of colonization can be masked. A critique of Heart of
Darkness describes this phenomenon as the enlightened façade the Company has for the general
public to continue imperialism (Allingham). It is easier for everyone to accept that the Company is
improving the Congo rather than looking deeper and seeing

Missed Oil Change Essay
An important part of a car s maintenance schedule is an engine oil change. An engine s life can be
shortened faster with missed oil changes. The primary function of oil is to cut friction. Oil changes
should not ever be put off. Oil that is dirty or not there does not allow a vehicle to function properly.
The damages can be costly, because it can be irreversible without an engine overhaul. It is a relatively
simple service that should be done when it is due. It is cheaper to buy oil than to replace an engine.
However, it is confusing when an oil change is needed. The recommendations by quick lube shops
speak to a wide audience; address cars of every age, every mileage, and all have different maintenance
schedules. People have been convinced to stick to the 3,000 mile changes by these companies who are
strong advocates driven by profit. These recommendations are not necessarily the ones your car needs,
because there is not a one size fits all solution. Most people sense their cars require an oil change
when they see the low oil light come on. The light is an indicator that the oil level is low and is losing
its ability to function properly. By then damage is already occurring to the engine. Others go by the
standard guideline for an oil change after 3,000 to 3,500 miles. This rule is old and no longer applies
to cars purchased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oil intervals vary by engines and manufacturers. Oil change interval guidelines have been
designed to keep a car running in good condition. Manufacturers make recommendations based on
mild or severe driving conditions. This information can be found on the owner s manual or in the
manufacturer s website. Maintenance indicators can measure the oil quality to determine life
expectancy with an accurate assessment. The owner s manual should be the main guide if a car is not
equipped with a maintenance light or

Homosexual Marriage Australia
Why not Australia? Australia is considered to be one of the most accepting country in the world. But
why is homosexual marriage still illegal?
Australia has come along way in regards to accepting and acknowleding gay and lesbian relationships.
Sodomy laws were part of Australian law, from 1788 through to 1994 under Human Rights (Sexual
Conduct) Act 1994. The punishment was reduced from execution to life in prison in 1899. Today,
homophobia still exsists, however being gay or lesbian it is no longer institutionalised or illegal.
Accourding to http://www.australianmarriageequality.org/ Public opinion poll (2009 2012) 64% of
Austrlian support gay marriage and 81% of young people (18 24 years) support marriage equality.

Many anti gay people use the argument that if gay marriage was made legal, other changes such as
allowing muliple wives, would have to be made. However this is proven wrong, as seen in the
countries who have already legalised gay marriage have not experience those reprecussions.
The Catholic Church is strongly opposed to legalising gay marriage in Australia. Acoording to the
Don t mess with marriage report A Pastoral Letter from the Catholic Bishops of Australia to all
Australians onthe Same sex Marriage Debate, their definition of marriage is that it involves a
substantial bodily and spiritual union of a man and a woman. The Church believes this union is
centred around and ordered not only to the wellbeing of the spouses but also towards the generation
and wellbeing of children. However it has been found that people in same sex couples are more highly
educated and are more likely to be in highly skilled occupations than people in heterosexual
couples. In measures of general health and family cohesion children aged 5 to 17 years with same sex
attracted parents had significantly better scores when compared to Australian children from all other
backgrounds and family contexts. With regard to academic performance, the evidence is that lesbian
and gay parented children perform as well as or better than their peers raised in hetrosexual couple
families. This information was found on the Australian Governement, Australian institute of family
studies website. These statistics and facts prove that there is so big difference between same sex
families and hetrosexual

Theme of The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving
Theme of The Devil and Tom Walker In Washington Irving s short story The Devil and Tom Walker,
greed is shown to be a terrible trait that comes with many negative affects. Revealed by Irving when
he introduced the setting, Tom Walker lived a miserable life isolated with his untrustworthy wife due
to his miserly personality, and by this Irving was showing that living a life of greed will ultimately
lead to misery. When decisions are being made based on greed and self benefit it will alter one
thinking process and help you to make harmful and unintelligent decisions, as shown by Irving
represented by greed based decisions both Tom and his wife made. Irvin also illustrated that you can
be overwhelmed by greed and it can metaphorically turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greed can also be the reason for idiotic and irrational decisions. It influences one s decisions and
could lead to their downfall. One example Irving gave was Tom s choice to make a deal with the devil.
The black man told Tom about the hidden gold that was buried in the woods, and a deal Tom could
make to get this gold(246). At first Tom rejected the offer due to the fact that he would have to split
this fortune with his wife, but after his wife s disappearance he went back to search for the devil.
When he found the devil the terms for the deal were negotiated. Tom would have to trade his soul and
open a broker shop in exchanger for the money(248 249). This is where Tom s greed made him
irrational and influenced him to make a bad decision. He made the deal, not thinking of the others he
would have to hurt in the broker business and without consideration that his soul will then belong to
the devil. Greed made Tom not think rationally and make a decision that would lead to his downfall in
the near future. The other example Irvin gave was a greed based decision that Tom s wife made the
ultimately led to her death. After Tom s first encounter with the devil he came home and told his wife
about his experience and the offer the devil made. Tom s wife was all for it but Tom did not want to
accept his the offer(246). Her greed came into play when she decided that she would steal some
valuables and go out and make the deal herself. This greedy decision was

U2 V. Negativland Summary
I think that the court s ruling should be overturned because I don t believe that Negativland violated
the copyright law by sampling from U2.
In the article entitled U2 Negativland the case from our side Negativland believes their work does not
violate copyright law. Negativland asserted, It was used for purposes of fair comment, parody, and
cultural criticism (151). In other words, Negativland s work was intended to make fun of U2 s song
entitled I still haven t found what i m looking for , which is protected under the fair use part of the
copyright law.
I agree because the artist named Weird Al Yankovic. He uses the instrumentals for a popular songs and
changes the lyrics to make fun of it. Yankovic has never been sued for his work because they are
parodies. Since Negativland made a parody of U2 s I still haven t found what I m looking for , they
should not be sued.
Negativland released their album with a huge title saying U2 and Negativland in a smaller font with an
image of the WW2 U 2 spy plane on it. U2 s label, Island Records, sued Negativland claiming that
they violated the trademark law because

Harlem (Dream Deferred) By Langston Hughes
I remember reading Harlem (Dream Deferred) by Langston Hughes in high school and years later in
college. A poem that s been around for ages like this one must have impacted many people s lives and
still used in school for teaching literature. When Hughes writes this poem, it was in the time of civil

everyone has, but the questions is what happens to it if not used. Hughes asked What happens to a
dream deferred? Does it stink like a rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over like a syrupy sweet?

Still Alice Identity
A man is only a man as long as he deems himself to be as such. In the novels, Me Before You and Still
Alice the authors, Jojo Moyes and Lisa Genova suggest that hopelessness is inescapable when a
person is stripped of what they consider to be the core essence of themselves. Will Traynor, the male
protagonist in Me Before You is an adventurous young man who found his identity though the joy of
physical thrills yet he completely lost his mobility due to a motorcycle accident which shattered his
idea of himself. By contrast, for an academic like Alice Howland, the protagonist in Still Alice, her
identity is her intelligent mind which is gradually fading due to the fact that she has developed a case

Will is no longer the Will he used to be as he has lost so much of himself. He cannot see himself being
truly happy in the future if he has to live bound to his wheelchair. He has lost all of his hope and in his
eyes, death seems to be the only option left for him. This is the path he chooses for himself. Louisa
confesses her love for Will and he rejects her affections. Heartbroken, she vents to her sister saying, I
told him I loved him, she said, her voice dropping to a whisper. And he just said it wasn t enough.
(119). Louisa s love is not enough to revitalize his love of life. Everyday before his accident, Will
worked to achieve his dreams. He tells Louisa during one of their first encounters that, I worked out
what would make me happy, and I worked out what I wanted to do, and I trained myself to do the job
that would make those two things happen. (61). Will worked hard so he could live the way he wanted
to and one day the reason he worked so hard was stripped away from him. By the time Louisa meets
Will Traynor, he is already too far gone in his depression to find another reason to live. Will lost all of
his hope and in turn, lost all of his will to live. His hopelessness killed him, his depression was merely

The Geography Geniuses Generated 3 Behaviorist Theory
Everybody learns in different ways, including the students sitting in the classrooms. How are teachers
going to be able to make sure every student learns? Maribel, Julianne, Michelle, Matthew, and Ana are
Geography Geniuses and are here to advise how to ensure that every student learns. Focusing on the
3rd grade standard SS.3.G.1.1, students will use thematic maps, tables, charts, graphs, and photos to
analyze geographic information. The information being taught is declarative because students will
acquire factual knowledge and information that can be spoken about at any time. The activities utilize
hands on and drill methods with the objective that if students are shown a blank map they will be able
to recognize and recall all elements of the map automatically. Lastly, they fit into the remember and
understand levels of Bloom s Taxonomy because students will remember locations on the map and
later understand different information and landmarks embedded in states. With all this in mind, the
Geography Geniuses generated 3 behaviorist and 3 constructivist activities that allow the students to
learn and practice geographic locations.
The first activity my third grade students will learn is a constructivist activity, which promotes active
learning and learning by doing. It derives from constructivism one of Piaget s theory it is defined as
the view that meaningful learning is the active creation of knowledge instead of a simple transfer of
objective knowledge from one person to

The Achievements Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was the anger of a nation that was suppressed under unfair laws and rules for
decades. The revolution happened for a good purpose, but ended as a disasters in Europe s history. The
French Revolution is an important event in history because it spread the idea of democracy even
though it did not gain democracy for its own. While the French Revolution spread ideas of democracy
and helped other nations, it was not a positive happening in French history because it did not achieve
most of its goals. I will consider French s politics, economy, social structure, religion before and after
the revolution, and also talk about the achievements of the revolution, such as the Napoleonic Code. In

This was the French civil code established under Napoleon I in 1804. The civil code gave post
revolutionary France its first coherent set of laws concerning property, colonial affairs, the family and
individual rights. Before Napoleon, law were not standardized across France. Northern of France was
ruled under customary laws, but Southern followed Roman laws, and the Roman Catholic Churches
had a major role in the government. There are pros and cons in the civil code of Napoleon. An
example for pro is that it standardized the laws across France. For example, the church could no
longer control secular institutions. Also, judges could not make new laws anymore, only the central
government had that power. Hereditary of the nobles and class privileges eliminated. Private property,
freedom of contract and freedom of individuals affirmed. Equality was a part of the revolution s
slogan Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, but it was not for everyone which is a con. Equality was given to
all male citizens but not women. For instance, women were defined as machines for producing
children, and also mentioned that they have to obey men because they are men s slave by nature. This
is the exact opposite of the revolution s definition of equality. The French Revolution failed to achieve
both liberty and equality, two major goals of the revolution, and it was part of the slogan of the
revolution. Did the revolution achieve the third part of the slogan, fraternity? The answer is No. After
the revolutionaries succeeded, they did not care about fraternity because they would kill and
guillotined anyone against the revolution. According to Llewellyn, On October 25th the newly formed
National Convention went further, banning all émigrés from France and promising them the guillotine

Immature Parents: Role Reversal
Continued (page 2 of 2)
It s hard to say why adults don t always act like grown ups. Sometimes good parents simply make
mistakes, Ward says. For these moms and dads, a conversation or a carefully worded letter might be
enough to do the trick. But others never got the parenting they needed and, Brown explains, failed to
make strides past adolescence toward a healthy, mature level of empathy. For them, she adds,
everything centers around what they want, and selfish conduct is an inherent part of their pattern of
behaviors and attitudes. In these cases, no amount of talking will change them, so instead of trying to
improve communication, Brown suggests self protection. If your parent is hurting you with his or her
behavior and won t change, you have no choice but to set up emotional barriers to protect yourself.
Ward also advises seeking support from a responsible adult, like a counselor, teacher, minister, or a
friend s parent. That s what Sarah did. I started attending a teen Bible study, and Kelly, the lady who
led it, became like a mother to me, she says. My mom was jealous, but I think Kelly saved my life.
Teens who are forced to act like adults often have a hard time reaching out for help because they are
so adult, Ward says. But they need someone who can remind them that it s OK to

Analysis Of The Story The Yellow Wallpaper By...
Clinical psychologist and writer, Kay Redfield Jamison once said, I think one thing is that anybody
who s had to contend with mental illness whether it s depression, bipolar illness or severe anxiety,
whatever actually has a fair amount of resilience in the sense that they ve had to deal with suffering
already, personal suffering. In the story, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the
narrator has severe depression, at the very least, and knows that she can get better if she is given the
right treatment. While trying to get better, she can t help but be fixated on the yellow wallpaper in her
room. The yellow wallpaper in this story is a representation of the narrator s relationship with her
disease. The exterior portion of the wallpaper is a portrayal of the narrator s disease. At night, it
becomes bars (Gilman 15). The fact that the exterior portion of the wallpaper becomes bars at night is
symbolizing the fact that her disease is keeping her at bay and keeping her locked in, or unable to get
better, whereas during the daytime, the exterior part is normal. This relates to how at times her disease
is calm and controlled and other times, it flares up and completely controls her. The pattern is also
described as torturing. Once you think that you have the pattern mastered, it comes back to overtake
you. Whenever the narrator describes the frustrating the outside of the wallpaper is, she is illustrating

Essay on Analysis of Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith
Analysis of Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith
People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the
conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.
Adam Smith
The reasons for writing a book such as Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations are many, and Smith
seems to have had several in mind. His study traces the stages in the development of the modern
economic system in an attempt to explain it, maps out the origins of money, and finally tackles the
issues facing the mercantile system which controlled the society he lived in. In the process, he
provides an exposition for his vision of a laissez faire economy, that is, capitalism as we now know it.

Looking at his own society s economic system, Smith explores the division of labour, the role it has to
play in industrialization, and its general impact upon the wealth of the state.
Smith regards the division of labour and the resultant specialization as the key to increasing the
productivity of labour, rather than the increase in mechanization since the
Industrial Revolution began, as many would argue. Naturally, a highly specialized economic unit
would be dependent upon interaction with other, similarly specialized units, and Smith illustrates that
a system of fair and accessible trade is necessary for an efficient use of labour.
The much quoted example of the pin maker is used to demonstrate Smith s point about the division of
labour. Despite its questionable accuracy, this example does much to illustrate the plight of labour
under a system of increasing specialization. That is to say, it shows the boredom and melancholia
which can be associated with repetitious and laborious work. For Smith, however, any such problem is
amply compensated for by the relative prosperity of a society based upon specialized markets and
trades. For instance,

Racial Tension And Civil Unrest
As diverse as the city of Los Angeles is, it has a history of racial tension and civil unrest. From 1910,
the start of the Mexican Revolution and World War I when President Theodore Roosevelt instituted
the brown scare (Coerver, 2001), to 1913, when the California Alien Land Act prohibited Japanese
immigrants and citizens of Japanese descent from owning land in California, to 1934, when 3000
Chinese immigrants were displaced to make way for Union Station, to 1942, when 110,000 Japanese
Americans were forced into internment camps, Los Angeles has historically been the center of racial
controversy and tension ( Year by Year, 1999). In 1943, Los Angeles was also full of young African
Americans and Mexican Americans trying to protest the racism in the American culture by expressing
themselves with their own music, clothing, culture, and style (Cosgrove, 1985). By the time of the
Sleepy Lagoon murder in 1942, the stage had been set for the Zoot Suit Riots that occurred in June
1943. Although the riots only lasted ten days, the ramifications ranged from cultural repression on the
part of many Mexican American families, to political activism on the part of others, and the beginning
of reform within the Los Angeles Police Department.
In 1910, Mexico entered into a revolution; shortly thereafter the United States entered World War I.
About this time President Theodore Roosevelt started talking about a brown scare ; profiling Mexican
Americans as possible trouble makers

The Influence Of Adolf Hitler
Hitler leadership was not significant because he made war world II. Hitler spread lies about the jews
say the jews were greedy and were the reason for Germany s economic troubles.
Adolf Hitler created a fascist politics in Germany known as the Nazi Party. Hitler claimed that
Germany should taken from Germany by the Treaty of versailles.
The third Reich in power at the beginning of 1938, Hitler s attention turned once more to Austria and
the formal agreement on 11 July 1936 and on that date he urged caution on the Austrian Nazis, not
waiting to cause international alarm and was Reich Chancellor on 3 February 1938 he asked friesh to
resign.
Adolf Hitler is who caused me to leave my hometown of Germany and immigrated to America. As I
am Jewish, Hitler made Germany an unsafe place for me. He mass murdered 6,000,000 Jews in
Germany during the Holocaust. He was truly a terrible man. On April 20, 1889 Adolf Hitler was born.
He was not always so crude as we know him now. He really became mean when his younger brother
Edmund died, changing his perspective of life. This was the start of the terrible Hitler we remember
today. From that day on, Hitler transformed into a morose, sullen boy who was constantly fighting
with his father, who he didn t have a very good relationship with. Hitler s childhood affected how he
acted later in life. However, it wasn t just Hitler s childhood that turned him into a bad man. Hitler
made some very wrong choices as an adult. As chancellor,

`` The Republic Of Nature `` By Mark Fiege, The Salem...
Pure Perspective
From the mightiest of Redwoods to the tiniest bacterium, nature encapsulates mankind. Nature
surrounds humanity as a sovereign witness to man s most astounding triumphs, and the disgusting
atrocities perpetrated by man against his fellow man. Regardless of the circumstances, nature remains
unbiased in the face of all conflicts and struggles. Nature cannot deceive or mislead like humanity can.
It is for this reason why nature has an ideal perspective to view history. As shown through Mark Fiege
s book The Republic of Nature: an Environmental History of the United States, the lense of nature is
extremely important to both readers and historians alike due to the fact that unlike almost all other
sources, nature is unbiased and honest. This is exemplified through Fiege s exploration of the history
of the the construction of the Lincoln Memorial, the Salem witch trials, and natural law.
Prior to diving into the many new insights that can be comprehended while viewing history through a
natural lense, it is important to define nature in this context. While man is technically a creation of
nature, and therefore nature himself, he shall be excluded from this brief definition of what composes
nature. Here, nature will be considered everything living or otherwise on this earth that is not a
creation or product of humanity. All other creatures and parts of the environment are to be considered
nature.
To introduce the powerful effect of the unbiased lense of nature,

Summary Of Frank OConnor s First Confession
In the two stories First Confession and Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been The two main
characters are Connie and Jackie. They both are in situations where they are living lies until each is
forced to confront the truth about themselves, and this act of confrontation is freeing them both
spiritually, even though in Connie s case it could lead to her death. In the story First Confession the
author Frank O Connor doesn t use any references that relate it back to events in history. Regardless of
this, there is some developments of context to Catholicism. In the story, Where Are You Going, Where
Have You Been by Joyce Carol Oates there is a reference or inspired by four murders. Therefore, both
Connie and Jackie find themselves at a crossroads to find the truth about their lives. These two
characters are on a journey where one may face death and the other has to face a higher authority. In
the story, First Confession, Jackie is the antagonist in the story and he is dealing with a lot of
negativity around him. Jackie also is living in lies himself and throughout the story he is forced to find
out his identity. Jackie s problems started when his grandfather passed away, and his grandmother
came to live with him. Jackie is a young boy who is about to go to his first confession, and he is
scared to death and does not want to go and face a priest. His has been somewhat dishonest through
the story, so he is contemplating confessing the truth to the priest or not to confess

The Strengths And Development Of The Center For Biological...
Behind every organization is a board of directors. The board is responsible for overseeing the
organization and its mission. In order to fulfill this duty, boards must find capable individuals to join
them. This is accomplished in a variety of ways such as through an election by membership or by pre
existing board members. Not only are board members expected to be capable of overseeing an
organization, they should also be representative of their constituents. There is no fixed term on how
long a board can serve, as such, board membership can grow and change with the direction of the
organization they serve. Boards that represent their demographic can better understand the issues they
face. At the Center for Biological Diversity there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The board along with the executive director and staff work in harmony to fulfill the Center s mission.
One of the greatest organizational concerns and responsibility of the board is finances. The board of
directors have a duty of care to keep an organization financially viable, luckily for the Center, the
board appears to be successful in this aspect. According to the Center s 2016 report on Charity Watch,
it only spends nine dollars to raise every hundred. In addition to their fundraising skills, only 17% of
those funds were spent on overhead costs while the rest is allocated to program expenses (Charity
Watch, 2016). These numbers look great and the percentage allocated to program expenses is
especially significant for allowing the Center to hire more staff and increase its capacity. Thanks to the
board s oversight and guidance, the Center now has over a hundred employees that serve in eight
different programs. Despite the boards managerial capability and diverse skillsets, they do have one
weakness representation. One issue with a self perpetuating board is that ... the board may come to be
unrepresentative of the constituency or community the organization serves, (Worth, 77). The Center s
mission is to protect all diversity. To do so requires a diverse board and staff, yet the board s
demographics do not match that of the staff or its constituents. Of the board s nine members, only

The Comparison Of Couch Potatoes
For a long time, our nation has been proving their role as couch potatoes. Couch potatoes, people who
are lazy, inactive, or spend their time watching television instead of exercising, have been expanding
in size. There is not a debate of if but a debate of why our nation has succumbed to this form of
laziness. It is true that we are a nation of couch potatoes because most people are lazy, eat too much,
get little exercise, and have formed a habit of being unproductive. Firstly, one cause of becoming a
couch potato is laziness. People are lazy if they are able to do something but are disinclined to do it
because of the effort involved. Instead, they seem to engage in some other, less strenuous or less
boring activity. This can lead to procrastination. To procrastinate is to postpone a task in favour of
other tasks that are typically less important or urgent (Burton). This involves a lack of motivation. For
example, a person is more likely to choose television over a harder job such as exercise. Laziness also
leads to idleness, or the act of doing nothing. In some cases, it seems painful to people to put in effort
on long term goals when in reality these people just want immediate satisfaction. Secondly, another
cause of becoming a couch potato is because of little to no exercise. More than half of U.S. adults do
not engage in activity levels consistent with public health recommendations and 24% are not active at
all in their free time (Dusen). We all know exercise is

Superfreakonomics Report
The book Superfreakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, is basically just a collection
of stories that analyze certain aspects of our society/world, and evaluate why something is what it is or
how it can be changed. All solutions/evaluations made by the authors though, are from an economist s
point of view. This is one of the main reasons why I chose this book alongside the fact that some of
the stories inside I found to be quite intriguing. Topics discussed in the book ranged from why suicide
bombers should buy life insurance to how street prostitutes are like department store Santa clauses.
Despite the interesting topics discussed though, the main reason I chose this book was for the
economics viewpoint of the authors. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors bring up this idea is chapter two when they discuss the idea surrounding a tax on the
inheritance given from an elderly family member to the rest of their surviving family. While most
people without an economic mindset would instantly think that lowing the inheritance tax would be a
good idea, Levitt and Dubner presented a counter theory/argument. They proposed that if the
inheritance tax was decreased, theoretically, those people expecting a share of the inheritance would
have less drive to exert the time or effort to keep the elderly person in good health thus resulting in a
faster pay out of the inheritance. I found this to be quite interesting because I, before reading this, was
in the same boat as most others by thinking that the inheritance tax should not be very high. However,
after reading this, I would consider a minor increase in the inheritance tax to be justified because I
think that the lives of the elderly, especially family members, should be more important than the
inheritance that they leave behind. I wouldn t go too far though to raise the tax so high because I think
that there is a ceiling where there would just be no benefit in even having an inheritance at all. I think
that now, after reading this, I will think more closely when the time comes for any of my close family
to reach that stage of life where inheritance is even a discussion point, because I will want to make
sure that the inheritance is not getting in the way of the well being of the family

Why Iceland Is Considered One Of The Safest Countries
On Earth there are one hundred ninety five countries, and they are very diverse. There are hundreds, if
not thousands of religions in the world. Many countries have the same religion but there can be a
major difference between them. Religion is not the only difference between countries, including food,
laws, healthcare, cultural beliefs, weather, and the list goes on and on. There is no difference when it
comes to comparing the community in my home town, Akureyri, and Faulkner s community. When I
came to Faulkner I got a shock, and I know now why Iceland is considered one of the safest countries
in the world.
In Iceland the main religion is Christianity. The population of three hundred thirty thousand, divides
up in to, 80% Christianity and 20% that have other religion, or are atheist. According to a survey from
2010, the average Icelander goes to church four times every year. Counting every time they go to a
funeral, wedding, confirmation and baptism. At Faulkner University I would say that at least one third
of students here go to church every Sunday. Icelandic education system is put up so that every child
learns about Christianity. Addition to that they have to learn the foundation of main religions in the
world; Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. In Iceland an ethics class is mandatory, we learn that
there is nothing that says that we are any better than the rest of the world. Nothing says that our
believes, and culture is more correct than in other countries.

Social Dilemmas In A Divergent
Living in the society, Tris ought to be obeying the law as she is part of it. But, when she finds out
herself is a Divergent, she can sense that something is running off. There is a social norm that that the
divergent is outskirt. And even the test administrator warns her never tell anyone her result shows as
Divergent because this will create chaos. As mentioned, the society under Abnegation government is
not just and fair, it even does not reach the view of Mockus by recognizing of legal, moral and social
norms that may regulate citizens behaviour . Each faction is required to focus on the responsibility and
they have different values, they do not agree to each other core virtues; therefore, one faction is not
willing to communicate with the other faction. Although during the period of ruling, there is no war
but it certainly builds up the disapproval from the Erudite faction to the moral norm and social norm
which they think they should be the one ruling the society with the intelligence more than being a
selfless. Also, the Erudite finds out that the Abnegation leader is actually not upholding the norms of
selfless as he abused his own son which leading his child to turn away from the family. Consequently,
the Erudite tries to create new social norms; however, they did not succeed. They should see the life as
sacred and they should be following the Mayor Mockus footstep by acting to the new rules personally,
instead of hiding behind and deceive people to do their work. Another reason that the Erudite plan is
not successful because their inner demon creates too much violence and opposing voices.
From the Week 4 reading The Better Angels of Our Nature , there is a sentence which is very suitable
for the setting of the novel. Steven Pinker wrote that even in peaceable societies, people are fascinated
by the logic of bluff and threat ... the vulnerabilities of a human body and how they can be exploited
or shielded. Even the initial state of government is trying to create the best peacefulness to the society,
the desire of the Erudite has broken the harmony by creating violence. The Erudite is trying to rule the
faction by make the society an own version of utopia. To do this, they make false claims on the

Project Delivery Methods For Distinct Allocation Of Risk...
Project delivery methods allow for distinct allocation of risk and responsibilities within a construction
contract. Each unique construction project calls for a defined delivery method and a written contract in
order to ensure the success of the venture. A project delivery option is defined as a method for
procurement which the owner s assignment of delivery risk and performance for design and
construction has been transferred to another party (Mahdi 564). After a legal and appropriate contract
is signed, contractual privity exists which allows the contracting parties to hold each other responsible
for their actions. The design bid build delivery method is often referred to the traditional method of
contractual relationships in the construction industry. This method allows the owner to select a design
professional based off of the quality of their work, whereas the selection of the construction manager
is based off competitive bids submitted after the completion of the design. The traditional method may
be viewed as the tried and true system of creating successful contractual relationships, but the
evolution of the industry has called for this method to take on different forms. One such form is the
construction manager at risk (CMR) method, which allows for collaboration between the owner,
designer, and construction manager during the early stages of the design process and continues
throughout the life of the construction project. This agreement makes up thirty percent

Pablo Neruda
When considering authors for a World Literature course, there are multiple things to consider. You
have to think about how their work represent their home country, what topics they discuss through
their work, the emotions they convey, etc. You also have to look at the author s personal life. What
influences the authors writing? What are some factors through the author s life that makes them write
about a certain topic? One author that would really be important in a World Literature course is the
poet, Pablo Neruda. Pablo Neruda was a poet, but he was also a politician. Pablo used his writing to
express a lot of his feelings and emotions. Pablo discussed both emotional and political topics in his
poems. Pablo Neruda even won the Nobel Prize for his poetry. But what influenced Neruda and his
writing? Factors such as his home country, people he met, and his political career played major roles
in influencing Pablo Neruda to write so many of the wonderful poems we know and love today. Pablo
Neruda was born July 12, 1904, in the town of Parral in Chile. He was born Neftalí Ricardo Reyes
Basoalto, but later he legally switched his birth name to his pen name, Pablo Neruda. His father was
José del Carmen Reyes Morales, a railway employee and his mother was Rosa Basoalto, a school
teacher. Pablo s mother sadly passed away from tuberculosis two months after giving birth to him.
Soon after Pablo s mother passed away, Pablo and his father packed up and moved to the city of
Temuco. A few

  • 2. Child Prostitution And Domestic Violence This is supposed to be a free country. We the people are supposed to have the right to make decisions in our own individual lives that will benefit our future. But in this country the government puts so much restraint on an individual when they want an abortion, maybe an individual wants to clone for personal reasons, use contraceptive, or die under their own will. Those choices are an individual s own morality and should not be judged when living in a free country. What about Child Prostitution or Domestic Violence that are not individual choices? Why do those two phenomenon s seem to be looked over and the court doesn t have a strong hand in developing a solution in such resilient issues? Child Prostitution is one of the most overlooked injustice for children. These poor kids live in a country where the courts are more worried about individual rights instead of the well being of children who have lost their innocence. The trade of human beings, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery or forced labor is known as Human Trafficking. This type of trade for sex is a very lucrative industry, coming second to drug trafficking as the most profitable illegal industry in the world. When most Americans hear the words sex trafficking, they think Thailand, Africa, and Eastern Europe. This systematical belief that the United States does not endure such behavior is a communal afterthought and considered incredulous to many citizens. Nevertheless, prostitution is a growing ... Political risk and country risk are challenges that must be strategically considered by multinational firms. What is one real world firm that deals with political and country risk? Answer: Temasek Holdings company In what nation does the risk occur and in what ways? Answer: In South East Asia, Thailand Temasek face Political Risk in Thailand When Singapore s state run investment arm Temasek Holdings bought Thailand s Shin Corp telecommunications conglomerate in 2006, its 73 billion baht (US$2.2 billion) acquisition of Shin Satellite was a strategic afterthought. The way of assessing the effectiveness of Temasek s political risk management strategies would be to evaluate gains and losses that may be associated with the political risks which were taken. Temasek investment portfolio and approach expose it to higher political risk. Then Temasek should avoid investments in iconic overseas companies, go for minority stakes in future investments, and seek local partners in making acquisitions. Temasek should start to give press interviews. This can be interpreted as part of a targeted public relations campaign that operates on two levels: on a broader, strategic level, to dispel suspicions and rumors on Singapore and on a specific, tactical level, to clarify public doubts on individual investments. Temasek should following the path by many multinationals to win over local communities by building a more visible corporate citizen image like Temasek Foundation which has focus areas including the promotion of exchange programs among different languages/religions/cultures, and support for disaster emergency relief and recovery in Asia And Thai government should improve standard legal and institutional framework, enhancement of good governance and transparency, capacity building, ensuring fair competition, balanced liberalization and sustainable development, full participation of the host economy

  • 5. Iraq War A Pragmatist Unfortunately, the hawks views and previous actions in which they prevented the U.S. from agreeing with or joining multilateral groups triggered a firestorm among foreign and domestic critics. To differentiate, the pragmatists, or constructive realists, believed that the U.S. goals would be better achieved by working within the post 1945 institutional framework that they had helped to build. They knew that a unilateral military campaign would do irreparable damage to U.S. long term interests, and that the results would be problematic. The United States would be in a stronger position to deal with Iraq if it had carefully built up international support the pragmatists accepted that institutions such as the United Nations, if combined ... In addition to that, because Congress risky sentiment was strongly in favor of prior congressional authorization for any military action, going to the U.N. shared and balanced control and over the situation. And it wasn t only congress who was feeling pressured to act aggressively. The Democrats were uncomfortable with being called dovish, so they were reluctant to oppose military action too ardently. Summed up, it seemed that many people were not in the proper mental state to take such a critical decision. I think they were too ready to jump into war without a second thought. So the U.N. would be able to detect and influence those thoughts to a more calm route and try to prevent war, although it ended up unsuccessful. I do think that the United States specifically was a different case from the other five great powers in this time period. The U.S. had just experienced one of its worst terrorist attacks in history. So it had its guard up for sure, unlike the other countries, who either were used to the terrorist issues or had not yet dealt with an attack similar to that of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance Of Poverty In South Korea Over the summer, I traveled to Seoul, South Korea. One day, I decided to walk down streets of Hongdae to see what everyone was doing. There were people everywhere; they were rushing around hurriedly and frantically studying in cafés that lined the street. I turned down a side road to the front of a temple, where I saw homeless people sitting on the ground, holding their hands out for even ₩10 (a penny in US dollars). I walked further along onto the main road and found a mob of people protesting various things in the middle of the street. This scene of endless work, poverty, and injustice is found all over the world, not just in South Korea. With a world that consists of seeing so many terrible events happening daily, the world needs hope. One issue that reveals the need for hope is poverty. The 2015 Census found that 13.5% of America s population was in poverty, and this number has probably risen up even higher as years have passed by ( Current Poverty Rate ). There are so many people in the world who are stuck in poverty and may also feel resigned to being in poverty and not being able to do anything about it. Another issue that shows the need for hope is war. The world is constantly talking about being on the verge of worldwide conflict, and daily on the news, you see new stories about how tensions are rising that could lead us to immediate nuclear war. For example, almost every day now, we hear stories about how North Korea keeps threatening the world with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Light And Darkness In Heart Of Darkness Light and dark are generally juxtaposed to highlight the maleficent and the beneficent. Alternatively, in both Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and Native Guard by Natasha Trethewey, light and dark symbolism is used to convey that an outward appearance can conflict with what is lying underneath. Conrad shows that greed can be hidden under seemingly good intentions, and Trethewey shows that physical traits do not tell one s whole story. In the novella Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses light and dark to represent life and death. Although the Europeans believe they are bringing light and life to the Congo, in reality, they are bringing darkness and death. Sometimes one s real intentions can be eclipsed by their actions. While Marlow is in the Congo, he witnesses disturbing sights. For example, one of the first things Marlow sees in the Congo is a few natives dying slowly with looks of pain and despair while leaning against trees (Conrad 19). Even with this, Marlow is generally unaffected and focuses more on the landscape than the people dying. In order to disassociate from the bad, Marlow tends to focus on unimportant details, which plays into how the evil, underlying motives of colonization can be masked. A critique of Heart of Darkness describes this phenomenon as the enlightened façade the Company has for the general public to continue imperialism (Allingham). It is easier for everyone to accept that the Company is improving the Congo rather than looking deeper and seeing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Missed Oil Change Essay An important part of a car s maintenance schedule is an engine oil change. An engine s life can be shortened faster with missed oil changes. The primary function of oil is to cut friction. Oil changes should not ever be put off. Oil that is dirty or not there does not allow a vehicle to function properly. The damages can be costly, because it can be irreversible without an engine overhaul. It is a relatively simple service that should be done when it is due. It is cheaper to buy oil than to replace an engine. However, it is confusing when an oil change is needed. The recommendations by quick lube shops speak to a wide audience; address cars of every age, every mileage, and all have different maintenance schedules. People have been convinced to stick to the 3,000 mile changes by these companies who are strong advocates driven by profit. These recommendations are not necessarily the ones your car needs, because there is not a one size fits all solution. Most people sense their cars require an oil change when they see the low oil light come on. The light is an indicator that the oil level is low and is losing its ability to function properly. By then damage is already occurring to the engine. Others go by the standard guideline for an oil change after 3,000 to 3,500 miles. This rule is old and no longer applies to cars purchased ... • 9. Homosexual Marriage Australia Why not Australia? Australia is considered to be one of the most accepting country in the world. But why is homosexual marriage still illegal? Australia has come along way in regards to accepting and acknowleding gay and lesbian relationships. Sodomy laws were part of Australian law, from 1788 through to 1994 under Human Rights (Sexual Conduct) Act 1994. The punishment was reduced from execution to life in prison in 1899. Today, homophobia still exsists, however being gay or lesbian it is no longer institutionalised or illegal. Many anti gay people use the argument that if gay marriage was made legal, other changes such as allowing muliple wives, would have to be made. However this is proven wrong, as seen in the countries who have already legalised gay marriage have not experience those reprecussions. The Catholic Church is strongly opposed to legalising gay marriage in Australia. Acoording to the Don t mess with marriage report A Pastoral Letter from the Catholic Bishops of Australia to all Australians onthe Same sex Marriage Debate, their definition of marriage is that it involves a substantial bodily and spiritual union of a man and a woman. The Church believes this union is centred around and ordered not only to the wellbeing of the spouses but also towards the generation and wellbeing of children. However it has been found that people in same sex couples are more highly educated and are more likely to be in highly skilled occupations than people in heterosexual couples. In measures of general health and family cohesion children aged 5 to 17 years with same sex attracted parents had significantly better scores when compared to Australian children from all other backgrounds and family contexts. With regard to academic performance, the evidence is that lesbian and gay parented children perform as well as or better than their peers raised in hetrosexual couple families. • 10. Theme of The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving Theme of The Devil and Tom Walker In Washington Irving s short story The Devil and Tom Walker, greed is shown to be a terrible trait that comes with many negative affects. Revealed by Irving when he introduced the setting, Tom Walker lived a miserable life isolated with his untrustworthy wife due to his miserly personality, and by this Irving was showing that living a life of greed will ultimately lead to misery. When decisions are being made based on greed and self benefit it will alter one thinking process and help you to make harmful and unintelligent decisions, as shown by Irving represented by greed based decisions both Tom and his wife made. Irvin also illustrated that you can be overwhelmed by greed and it can metaphorically turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greed can also be the reason for idiotic and irrational decisions. It influences one s decisions and could lead to their downfall. One example Irving gave was Tom s choice to make a deal with the devil. The black man told Tom about the hidden gold that was buried in the woods, and a deal Tom could make to get this gold(246). At first Tom rejected the offer due to the fact that he would have to split this fortune with his wife, but after his wife s disappearance he went back to search for the devil. When he found the devil the terms for the deal were negotiated. Tom would have to trade his soul and open a broker shop in exchanger for the money(248 249). This is where Tom s greed made him irrational and influenced him to make a bad decision. He made the deal, not thinking of the others he would have to hurt in the broker business and without consideration that his soul will then belong to the devil. Greed made Tom not think rationally and make a decision that would lead to his downfall in the near future. The other example Irvin gave was a greed based decision that Tom s wife made the ultimately led to her death. After Tom s first encounter with the devil he came home and told his wife about his experience and the offer the devil made. Tom s wife was all for it but Tom did not want to accept his the offer(246). Her greed came into play when she decided that she would steal some valuables and go out and make the deal herself. • 11. U2 V. Negativland Summary I think that the court s ruling should be overturned because I don t believe that Negativland violated the copyright law by sampling from U2. In the article entitled U2 Negativland the case from our side Negativland believes their work does not violate copyright law. Negativland asserted, It was used for purposes of fair comment, parody, and cultural criticism (151). In other words, Negativland s work was intended to make fun of U2 s song entitled I still haven t found what i m looking for , which is protected under the fair use part of the copyright law. I agree because the artist named Weird Al Yankovic. He uses the instrumentals for a popular songs and changes the lyrics to make fun of it. Yankovic has never been sued for his work because they are parodies. Since Negativland made a parody of U2 s I still haven t found what I m looking for , they should not be sued. Negativland released their album with a huge title saying U2 and Negativland in a smaller font with an image of the WW2 U 2 spy plane on it. • 12. Harlem (Dream Deferred) By Langston Hughes I remember reading Harlem (Dream Deferred) by Langston Hughes in high school and years later in college. A poem that s been around for ages like this one must have impacted many people s lives and still used in school for teaching literature. When Hughes writes this poem, it was in the time of civil right movement so many black people could relate to what the poem signifies. A dream is something everyone has, but the questions is what happens to it if not used. Hughes asked What happens to a dream deferred? Does it stink like a rotten meat? Maribel, Julianne, Michelle, Matthew, and Ana are Geography Geniuses and are here to advise how to ensure that every student learns. Focusing on the 3rd grade standard SS.3.G.1.1, students will use thematic maps, tables, charts, graphs, and photos to analyze geographic information. The information being taught is declarative because students will acquire factual knowledge and information that can be spoken about at any time. The activities utilize hands on and drill methods with the objective that if students are shown a blank map they will be able to recognize and recall all elements of the map automatically. Lastly, they fit into the remember and understand levels of Bloom s Taxonomy because students will remember locations on the map and later understand different information and landmarks embedded in states. With all this in mind, the Geography Geniuses generated 3 behaviorist and 3 constructivist activities that allow the students to learn and practice geographic locations. There are pros and cons in the civil code of Napoleon. An example for pro is that it standardized the laws across France. For example, the church could no longer control secular institutions. Clinical psychologist and writer, Kay Redfield Jamison once said, I think one thing is that anybody who s had to contend with mental illness whether it s depression, bipolar illness or severe anxiety, whatever actually has a fair amount of resilience in the sense that they ve had to deal with suffering already, personal suffering. In the story, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the narrator has severe depression, at the very least, and knows that she can get better if she is given the right treatment. While trying to get better, she can t help but be fixated on the yellow wallpaper in her room. The yellow wallpaper in this story is a representation of the narrator s relationship with her disease. The exterior portion of the wallpaper is a portrayal of the narrator s disease. At night, it becomes bars (Gilman 15). The fact that the exterior portion of the wallpaper becomes bars at night is symbolizing the fact that her disease is keeping her at bay and keeping her locked in, or unable to get better, whereas during the daytime, the exterior part is normal. This relates to how at times her disease is calm and controlled and other times, it flares up and completely controls her. The pattern is also described as torturing. Adam Smith The reasons for writing a book such as Adam Smith s The Wealth of Nations are many, and Smith seems to have had several in mind. His study traces the stages in the development of the modern economic system in an attempt to explain it, maps out the origins of money, and finally tackles the issues facing the mercantile system which controlled the society he lived in. In the process, he provides an exposition for his vision of a laissez faire economy, that is, capitalism as we now know it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at his own society s economic system, Smith explores the division of labour, the role it has to play in industrialization, and its general impact upon the wealth of the state. Smith regards the division of labour and the resultant specialization as the key to increasing the productivity of labour, rather than the increase in mechanization since the Industrial Revolution began, as many would argue. Naturally, a highly specialized economic unit would be dependent upon interaction with other, similarly specialized units, and Smith illustrates that a system of fair and accessible trade is necessary for an efficient use of labour. The much quoted example of the pin maker is used to demonstrate Smith s point about the division of labour. Despite its questionable accuracy, this example does much to illustrate the plight of labour under a system of increasing specialization. That is to say, it shows the boredom and melancholia which can be associated with repetitious and laborious work. For Smith, however, any such problem is amply compensated for by the relative prosperity of a society based upon specialized markets and trades. For instance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nature surrounds humanity as a sovereign witness to man s most astounding triumphs, and the disgusting atrocities perpetrated by man against his fellow man. • 29. The Comparison Of Couch Potatoes For a long time, our nation has been proving their role as couch potatoes. Couch potatoes, people who are lazy, inactive, or spend their time watching television instead of exercising, have been expanding in size. There is not a debate of if but a debate of why our nation has succumbed to this form of laziness. It is true that we are a nation of couch potatoes because most people are lazy, eat too much, get little exercise, and have formed a habit of being unproductive. Firstly, one cause of becoming a couch potato is laziness. People are lazy if they are able to do something but are disinclined to do it because of the effort involved. Instead, they seem to engage in some other, less strenuous or less boring activity. This can lead to procrastination. To procrastinate is to postpone a task in favour of other tasks that are typically less important or urgent (Burton). This involves a lack of motivation. For example, a person is more likely to choose television over a harder job such as exercise. Laziness also leads to idleness, or the act of doing nothing. In some cases, it seems painful to people to put in effort on long term goals when in reality these people just want immediate satisfaction. Secondly, another cause of becoming a couch potato is because of little to no exercise. While most people without an economic mindset would instantly think that lowing the inheritance tax would be a good idea, Levitt and Dubner presented a counter theory/argument. They proposed that if the inheritance tax was decreased, theoretically, those people expecting a share of the inheritance would have less drive to exert the time or effort to keep the elderly person in good health thus resulting in a faster pay out of the inheritance. I found this to be quite interesting because I, before reading this, was in the same boat as most others by thinking that the inheritance tax should not be very high. However, after reading this, I would consider a minor increase in the inheritance tax to be justified because I think that the lives of the elderly, especially family members, should be more important than the inheritance that they leave behind. I wouldn t go too far though to raise the tax so high because I think that there is a ceiling where there would just be no benefit in even having an inheritance at all.
