Turkey As A Country State
Turkey Turkey in my opinion is one the most underrated countries in the eastern world. It is a
beautiful country with an expansive culture and society. Turkey is essentially the bridge of where the
East meets the West in that area of the world. Founded in 1923, Turkey to this day is one of the only
country in the world with a Muslim Democracy. Its interesting political history combined with the rich
culture that resides in Turkey creates a very unique nation states. But how exactly did Turkey become
the nation state it is today, and what even makes it a nation state in the first place? These are questions
that must be addressed in order to truly understand Turkey as a country. In order to look at the history
of Turkey, we have to understand what a nation state truly is. It isn t quite the same as either a nation
or a state, but somewhere in between. A state, according to An Introduction to Global Studies, is a
fixed territory with boundaries, a population, a government, and the capacity to enter into relation with
other states (Campbell et al, 32). While this description sounds awfully similar to a nation, there are
actually some key differences. A nation is actually a shared culture or ethnic identity, instead of being
legally recognized by geography. Nations are not based on territory, but instead based on culture. So,
with these differentiations between a nation and a state, a nation state is a nice blend of the two. A
nation state is a very specific kind of state,

The Death Of The Pregnancy Test Essay
Many women find themselves in situations that leave them with an unwanted pregnancy and abort
their baby. The cause of abortion could simply be a birth control failure, from rape or incest, inability
to take care of the child, or in most cases, pressure from others. Whatever the case may be, these
women have chosen to get rid of their child, without thinking of the consequences after it is done.
After a mother chooses to abort her baby, she will be greatly affected psychologically and could
possibly change her and her future family s life forever.
Before the procedure is done, the mother of the child is positive about her decision, unaware of the
mental experiences she will be going through. Nonetheless, after the operation is done, the mother will
experience personal shame that could result in repressed grief, causing serious problems.
The anxiety over the unwanted pregnancy; the drama of the pregnancy test; often, the difficulty of
making the decision, then the waiting before the abortion can take place; perhaps protesters in front of
the clinic; the abortion clinic waiting room, crowded perhaps with other emotional women and men;
the abortion itself the doctors and nurses, the stirrups, the vacuum or other machinery then the
recovery room; the pain and bleeding afterward. All these dramatic experiences are likely to provide
her with indelible memories. A woman may return to them and relive them over and over. (Vitz 1)
In other words, the mother of the child could develop

Importance Of Marine Pollution
The marine ecosystems are hugely critical for Earth and its living organisms which holds the plant that
produces most of the oxygen on earth. Without oxygen many animals would not be able to breath or
even exist. The marine ecosystems have been polluted vastly which is altering the marine population.
Who is at fault for the pollution? The inhabitants of Earth. Fortunately for earth there are ways of
preventing this form of pollution.
The importance of the marine ecosystems and the effects of pollution.
The marine ecosystems are located in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and the Arctic oceans. The National
Geographic provides information about different types of marine ecosystems. Some types of
ecosystems include:salt marshes, lagoons, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also called global warming which also affects the marine pollution by causing ice sheets and
glaciers to melt rising which also causes sea levels to rise to the point where coastal regions would
flood. Not all air pollution is caused by humans. Natural disasters such as a volcano erupting can
throw out ashes and gases into the atmosphere. Which can lead to light pollution as well by darkening
the sky. Air pollution comes from fossil fuels, coal, smog, and oil. Smog which has nitrogen oxide,
sulfur dioxide, and hydrocarbons can make breathing difficult for the old and the young. Another act
caused by air pollution is acid rain which causes damage in forests and lakes. Water pollution has
many harmful chemicals and can be very deceiving to the eye. Water will appear clean but will
actually not be clean. What contributes to water pollution is oil spills, mining, acid mine drainage, and
sulfur. Drinking contaminated water can expose creatures to harmful chemicals that will affect them
for years or make them sick. The united nations estimates that around 4000 children die of drinking
contaminated water. Fish that are exposed to contaminated water are unsafe to eat and will cause
illness. Land pollution also has many of the same pollutants as water which leaves the soil with
harmful chemicals. Pesticides, contaminated soil, and fertilizers can affect the plants that bear fruits,
animals that eat the fruit, and

Cholera Outbreak in Haiti
Cholera Outbreak in Haiti Vibrio cholerae is a bacterium that infects the intestines of humans (CDC,
2016). While there are several strains of vibrio cholerae, only two types have been known to cause
cholera outbreaks and only one (type O1) is responsible for outbreaks globally (WHO, 2015). Cholera
infection is an acute diarrheal disease (CDC, 2016). It is extremely virulent and can affect children and
adults with equal severity if left untreated (WHO, 2015). Vibrio cholerae has a short incubation period
of 2 to 5 days, an aspect of the disease that leads to severe patterns of outbreaks (WHO, 2015). 80% of
individuals infected with the cholera bacterium are asymptomatic (WHO, 2015). However, the

The Pros And Cons Of Sexism In Doctor Who
The leading role in Doctor Who being changed from male to female caused a big outburst in sexism.
The role is made for a male and it being twelve out of thirteen of the lords being male we were
expecting to see a male. The role is not for a female and all the women are catching backlash for the
way the show took turns. They switched roles to keep the show from being cancelled. Fans are feeling
like women are trying to take over and during the show. Showing signs of sexism. Critics and all the
ugly parts of the world. There s no non sexist reason to be upset about the lead role being changed to a
female bringing more conflict and distribution to fans. We as people are very opinionated which only
makes matters worse. Having that mindset of we have freedom of speech for a reason meaning I m
going to say whatever I feel to voice my input whether it s good or bad. Positive or negative we are
going to say it. This could put maybe over half the world in the sexist category just because we can
have our opinion. We have to have some type of negativity some type of wrong in us or around us.
There are two different categories: Feminist or Sexist. Feminism meaning Women are equal to Men no
matter the category, and sexism meaning being a particular situation, attitude and or behavior towards
one gender. i think we don t know the meaning of these words or the differences of these two loosely
used words. Then we have this controversy of calling ourselves feminist with the definition of a

Attitudes Toward Marriage in Chaucer s the Canterbury Tales
Attitudes Toward Marriage in Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales demonstrate many different attitudes toward and perceptions of
marriage. Some of these ideas are very traditional, such as that discussed in the Franklin s Tale, and
others are more liberal such as the marriages portrayed in the Miller s and the Wife of Bath s Tales.
While several of these tales are rather comical, they do indeed give us a representation of the attitudes
toward marriage at that time in history. D.W. Robertson, Jr. calls marriage the solution to the problem
of love, the force which directs the will which is in turn the source of moral action
(Andrew, 88). Marriage in Chaucer s time meant a union between spirit and flesh

The Franklin suggests a marriage of equality, a marriage where the laws of courtesy rule (Huppe,
167). The knight in the Franklin s Tale promised his wife that he would never try to dominate her or
show any form of jealousy, and at the same time he would obey any command she gave him (Lines
745 750):
Of his free wil he swoor hire as a knight That nevere in al his lif he day ne night Ne sholde upon hime
take no maistrye Again hir wil, ne kithe hire jalousye, But hire obeye and folwe hir wil in al, As any
lovere to his lady shal
Arveragus and Dorigen s love and respect for each other is apparent at many times throughout the
course of the tale. Dorigen reciprocates his vow to her in lines 753 760 of the Franklin s Tale:
She thanked hym, and with ful greet humblesse She seyde, Sire, sith of youre gentilesse Ye profre me
to have so large a reyne, Ne wolde nevere God bitwixe us tweyne, As in my gilt, were outher werre or
strif. Sire, I wol be your humble, trewe wyf, Have heer my trouthe, til that myn herte breste. Thus
been they bothe in quiete and in reste.
The Franklin goes on to describe the blissful happiness between
Arveragus and Dorigen and goes as far as to say that married couples share a happiness that someone
who isn t married couldn t appreciate or measure. This occurs in lines 803 5 of the Franklin s Tale:
Who koude telle, but he hadde wedded be, The joye, the ese, and the prosperitee

Argumentative Essay Buy Nothing Day
Buy Nothing Day The first ever Buy Nothing Day was held in Canada on 1992. Buy Nothing Day was
organized as a day where no goods would be purchased, and as a result of this boycott of goods it
would raise awareness of the ethical and environmental implications of overconsumption. This is a
great and innovative idea that gives publicity to a neglected issue, which is the implications of
overconsumption. Nowadays people do not realize how much damage overconsumption actually does
to our world. They fail to realize that their brand new Nike sneakers were made by child labor in a
crammed sweatshop somewhere in Asia. They fail to realize how much pollution was released into the
environment from mass production in factories, so that they could ... Show more content on

It would also send a message to the consumers who over consume. With the whole world united
together against overconsumption people would stop and think before buying something that they did

already crumbling economy, but such thoughts are illogical. If someone were going to

Blockbuster Entertainment, Inc. was once a highly successful and profitable brick and mortar home

Blockbuster, Mr. Reed Hastings, now CEO of Netflix, paid a $40 late fee because he returned the
movie Apollo 13 six weeks later (Zarafshar, 2013). He began to contemplate ingeniously about a
notion to change the movie leasing pattern into a more pioneering industry. In 1997 Netflix was

Shrek Cultural Value Essay
What significant cultural value or belief does the film convey? What is important about it?
Shrek conveys the idea of true love and appearances while putting a twist on the classic idea. It limits
the idea of finding a true love at first sight and the damsel must be saved by her true love, a knight in
shining armor. Rather, the damsel in distress is rather not a damsel in distress, but rather a superb
fighter who can handle herself well and does not need the help of a knight in shining armor. The
knight in shining armor happens to be an ogre in dirty armor he takes from the bodies of dead knights.
Throughout Shrek s quest to save Fiona, they are kept apart by the appearance of a princess and an
ogre. Shrek is an ogre who turns out to be the knight in shining armor for Fiona, a princess who is not
a damsel in distress.
The popular concept of a charming prince rescuing a beautiful princess is changed to an ogre rescuing
an ogre. Shrek pushes others away because he is an ogre and believes everybody judges him as such.
He explains to Donkey that ogres are like onions they have layers. He resists falling in love with Fiona
and does not show any affection at the beginning because he thinks there is no way a princess and an
ogre can be together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Is The American Dream Still Possible Essay
Is it still possible in our country for everyone to achieve the American dream? The question itself is
tricky. It was never possible for everyone in our country to achieve the American dream to begin with.
Reaching the American dream is still possible, but it is not attainable for everyone. In fact, the whole
idea of the American dream is subjective. Those who dream have their own view of what the real
dream for their future as an American holds, as quoted in an article by William A.V. Clark Yet the
phrase the American dream is misleading because it implies that there is only one dream. In fact, there
are many versions of the American dream, and how people define it depends greatly on their age,
cultural identity, and citizenship status. (Source A) Because the American Dream is something so
idiosyncratic, it isn t easily defined. To know if the dream is truly possible for a specific person, that
dream must first be defined. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cookie cutter American Dream itself has changed since then. What was once the idea of starting a
family and making enough money to live and retire comfortably is now more about giving the future

a country. When 50 years ago, a good education and college degree was the first step for that white
picket fence, today much more is needed not just to get a job, but to have a successful career.
According to a study conducted by Vanity Fair, 44% of those surveyed define the American Dream as
giving your kids a better life. People are also very optimistic about the Dream today, with 39% of
those surveyed saying today when asked which year the American Dream came closest to its peak, in
that same survey. With this kind of optimism, the American Dream will become more and more of a

Theme Of Supernatural In Macbeth And Julius Caesar
Introduction
In tragedies of William Shakespeare, themes and characteristic concerns of the author with human
nature emerge through a number of dramatic devices and defining features of his characters (Randell
1976). The supernatural, then, in the form of ghosts, visions, strange occurrences or witches, serves as
one of these dramatic techniques, presenting an underlying characteristic of several Shakespeare s
plays. This essay is going to discuss The Tragedy of Macbeth (1623) and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar
(1623), and their depictions of the supernatural, suggesting ways in which this feature is used and
explored. It will be investigated how characters and their deeds relate to the supernatural, and what is
revealed about human actions, their causes and implications. Thus, on the one hand, this text will
explore the supernatural as a defining feature that goes against established order, from social
stratification to societal understanding of evil. On the other hand, it will be argued that, in fact,
Shakespeare s supernatural elements move beyond the categories of good and evil, and tell the
audience something about human nature, as well as laws of the natural world that may very well
incorporate the concept of supernatural. Hence, it will be postulated that the idea of unnatural suggests
a further ambiguity between heroes and villains, free will and destiny, or nature and ... Show more

Essay about The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail was also the product of a daydream atop Stratton Mountain, the brainchild of
Benton MacKaye. MacKaye was an off and on federal employee, educated as a forester and self
trained as a planner, who proposed it as the connecting thread of a project in regional planning. His
proposal, drawing on years of talk of a master trail within New England hiking circles, was written at
the urging of concerned friends in the months after his suffragette leader wife killed herself. It
appeared in the October 1921 edition of the Journal of the American Institute of Architects, at the time

More than 98% of the Trail is now on public land.
In New England, the Trail is both rocky and steep, and sometimes muddy and root obstructed as well.
The mid Atlantic states have the lowest mountains, where the trail frequently leads along rocky ridges.
The South has the highest mountains on the Trail, but those mountains have deep soils that allow for
switchbacks. Lengthy, graded ascents and descents are frequent.
The Appalachian Trail travels 148.7 miles through Vermont in two Main sections. The first section is
between Sherburne Pass (U.S. 4) and the Vermont/Massachusetts border. This section runs through the
Green Mountain National Forest and coincides with the lower Long Trail. This section is 104.1 miles
long ending at Maine Junction, the split of the Long and Appalachian Trails. The section is moderately
difficult, with elevation ranging from 850 feet to 4,010 feet on the ssw slope of Killington. The terrain
in this section includes dense evergreen forests, picturesque mountain lakes, boggy areas. Road
crossings are few, but the Trail here is heavily traveled. Occasional but expansive views are
encountered, most from observation or fire towers. Hikers are urged to stay off the A.T. in this area
during the mud season of April and May. Trails are not only unpleasant to hike but are also vulnerable
to erosion and vegetation damage. The best time to hike

The Psychodynamic Approach To Psychology
The psychodynamic approach is an approach to psychology that emphasizes systematic study of the
psychological forces that underlie human behavior, feelings, and emotions and how they might relate
to early experience. Sigmund Freud the founder of the psychodynamic approach to psychology or
psychoanalysis. While he led the process to look at subconscious thoughts and desires most of his
beliefs were wrong. Some beliefs are that our behavior and feelings as adults (including psychological
problems) are rooted in our childhood experiences, Personality is made up of three parts: the id, ego
and superego. Parts of the unconscious mind (the id and superego) are in constant conflict with the
conscious part of the mind (the ego).
Using this approach focuses on the analysis of the subconscious. When treating Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder a psychologist will propose therapy. The first thing a therapist might recommed
it to try as hard as possible to not commit the action they want to commit. Paired with medication this
can be a very effective tool. Analyze the compulsion to the environmental events and to other factor
that increase compulsion. Then to document what the patient avoids doing or exposing themselves to
in order to avoid the compulsion. After doing all of these steps they decide how long they have to ...

in forming the coalition, as the student population is a mix of African American, Caucasians and

munitions were being produced, providing economic stimulus. Wartime labor saw an increase, from
only a few companies that produced munitions to several, in total producing goods worth 2 million per
day. By 1917, Canada produced almost one third of Britain s shells, many of which were Canadian
women. The Imperial Munitions Board s 600 factories oversaw 103 naval vessels, 2,600 training

Joyce Meyer How To Respond To Conflict Summary
How to Respond to Conflict Joyce Meyer once said, A positive attitude gives you power over your
circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you . Throughout times people have
proven that positive thinking will help resolve a conflict. It is good to remain positive to eventually
receive a good outcome. When a conflict arises the best way to deal with it is to keep a positive
attitude. Many argue that a fight will quickly end a problem but problem but a good example that that
is false is the story of Black Ships before Troy.In black ships before Troy they use war to solve their
problems.people think that it won t really matter what attitude is presented in a problem. Many would
argue that the one side of the argument doesn t care about the attitude about the other person/side.. ...

Essay On Encephalitis
Encephalitis, also known as inflammation of the brain is a rare condition that causes an irritation,
swelling of the brain and in most cases nerve damage. Viral and bacterial encephalitis can easily be
mistaken as the flu with shocking long term effects. In many cases, encephalitis does not last long and
has a mild effect. However, in some cases encephalitis can be life threatening. About 10,000 to 20,000
cases of encephalitis are reported each year in the United States (Ehrlich, 2014). There are two types
of encephalitis that can infect the brain cells known as primary and secondary encephalitis. Primary
encephalitis is when the viruses attack the brain through the blood stream and into the nerve cells; it is
then grouped together and multiplies. After multiplying, it is spread throughout the brain. Secondary
encephalitis is when the virus infects a person by first infecting the other tissues in the body and then
attacks the brain. Viruses that are transmitted from other tissues usually cause focal infection, meaning
they produce extensive damage in only a small area of the brain (Simon, 2014). Infants, children, and
older adults are more likely to have severe cases because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

person they took home with them is not the same as the one they brought to hospital, with changes in
personality, irritability, and poor short term memory (Solomon, Hart, Beeching, 2007). In some cases,
swelling of the brain can lead to permanent brain damage and lasting complications like learning
disabilities, speech problems, memory loss, or lack of muscle control. Many people who get
encephalitis often change from this condition and supportive care such as therapy for physical and
speech may be needed in these

Copper Mining Effects
Copper is a chemical element that has the symbol Cu and atomic number 29 (Copper Development
Association of South Africa, 2017). The element possesses a wide range of properties that make it
invaluable for many different applications. It is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, as well
as being very malleable and ductile. Copper also has excellent alloying properties and is resistant to
corrosion (Geoscience Australia, 2017). Copper mining is a large industry in Australia, but the
industry is under scrutiny for negative impacts on the environments caused by mining.

Underground mining involves large scale movements of rock and vegetation, which creates potential
risks of land and tunnel collapse. Furthermore, this process of mining can release toxic compounds
into surrounding water bodies. As the water takes on harmful concentrations, it can pollute the region
surrounding the mine, as well as neighbouring water bodies. This can affect the growth of vegetation,
animals and humans living in the surrounding areas. This form of mining also has high demand for
water, which can deplete supplies in the surrounding region (Web.mit.edu, 2017). When copper is
mined, toxic compounds are released into the air. The dust released during the mining of copper can
release a variety of impurities associated with common health problems. Mining is also dependent on
fossil fuels, which when released have harmful effects on the atmosphere (Web.mit.edu, 2017).
An example of the invasive nature of underground copper mining is the Mount Morgan copper mines
in Queensland, which ran from the 1880 s to the 1980 s. The remains of this mine were left and have
affected the water quality of the Dee River. The water in the Dee River has become acidic, and is not
suitable for drinking, swimming or fishing. In heavy rainfall events, it is possible for runoffs of
contaminated water to spread through the area (Qld.gov.au, 2017). The impacts of this mine, which
has been shut down for more than 40 years, are still affecting the surrounding environment

The Importance Of Conservation During The Progressive Era
Conservation was the most important reform, from this time period, since it worked towards
protecting the United State s physical environment which leads to obtaining the essential resources of
nature, preserving the naturality of the planet, and living a higher quality of life. During the
Progressive Era the Second Industrial Revolution was in action, sprouting new technological
advancements and ground breaking creations or processes. During this era, new inventions were being
made and big monopolies were increasing their use of natural resources to a point where it was
becoming harmful. One of the areas of resources that was becoming alarmingly low was forests and
lumber, leading to the Forest Reserve Act of 1891. This act, which occurred during the conservation
reform, allowed the president to choose forests of interests and claim them as reserves, protecting
them from being harmed or negatively affected by big businesses. With the Forest Act many other acts
protecting the Earth s resources sprung up as well. All of the acts that were passed restricted important
resources from being wasted and blatantly used for company production areas. These acts, enlisted in
terms of the government, would allow the president to choose areas in which resources could always
exist and couldn t be overused. The areas chosen would include places with plentiful natural assets
and a large range of land. This early protection against the act of overharvesting, lead to people being

African Colonialism During Post Colonial Colonialism
It is evident that European colonialism had deeply affected the political system within post colonial
Africa. One of the main leading legacies of colonialism that hindered the development of post colonial
African states would be the ethnic division and the state conflicts resulting from ethnic rivalry after
independence . Scholars would argue the weakness within African politics would be due to creation of
forty new states brought about by the European colonial powers in the Berlin Conference of 1884 to
1885; which had artificial state borders within the continent having little to none parallelism to reality.
For example, Nigeria is clearly demonstrates that the legacy of the state boundaries that had created
new political entities carried. Moreover, with the colonies compromising of many different religions,
ethnic groups and languages, there were cultural differences that had created ethnic divisions and
rivalries which had been intensified after independence in post colonial Africa. After Nigeria had
become independent in 1960, the military took over and the economic situation worsened, this had led
to rising conflicts between the two main ethnic groups, the Hausa and the Igbo, as to who should have
power in the new country . This was because Nigeria was a new political entity as it was a product of
colonialism and being a new political entity, it had no previous experiences beyond the control of the
colonial powers. This clearly demonstrates the effects of ethnic

How to make a faster, quieter, more accurate, and stabilized bow
Hoyt states, ARC Limb Technology eliminates vibration providing for an extra quiet and super smooth
shot. It also enhances dynamic cam alignment through the powerstroke for total accuracy and a sweet
shot with blistering speed (Hoyt). This quotation proves that with the right technology we can
decrease vibration and have a quieter shot. Bowhunters and bow shooters who want a faster, quieter,
more accurate, and more stabilized bow need to know about increasing bow speed, making a safer
bow, and shooting guidelines so that we can have a more enjoyable hunt and time shooting our bows.
When we are trying to speed up a bow we need to start by look at the limbs. With ARC Limbs and the
Five Layer Technology we can allow the limbs to be put under more stress (Hoyt). When we are able
to put the limbs under more and more stress, we just increase and increase the flight speed of the

longer distance as the bow is drawn (Outdoor Life). This shows that we need to think about how big

we can hold it. The people from QDMA talk about how the arrow can change the way our bow shoots.
With heavier arrows it allows us to shoot further with more accuracy. That Heavier arrow will also be
quieter and make it less likely to be affected by the weather(QDMA). When we are thinking about
stabilization we need to think about split limbs. These types of limbs allow our bow to be more

Human beings have been dealing with wine for thousands of years, from the Mesopotamians to the
ancient Egyptians, from the Greeks to the ancient Romans, the latter which under their vast empire
spread viticulture through the Mediterranean region. Through centuries countries, such as France and
Italy, obtained a consolidated position in the wine industry, both in demand and production.
In the last part of the 20th century newcomers (Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina,
Chile, USA, etc.) have successfully challenged the leadership of the so called Old World that
represented the majority of global market share.

One of the largest disadvantages the mature competitors are facing concern the activity of marketing

Hitler s View Of The Jewish People Essay
From 1939 to 1945 the world saw actions and atrocities unparalleled in the War against Germany, the
legacies of such actions we are still seeing today. Perhaps the most notable atrocity that was born from
this war was the persecution of Jewish people in Germany and around Europe and the corresponding
murder of up to 6 million Jewish people . When Adolf Hitler s National Socialist party seized power
on January 30, 1933, there were approximately 525,000 Jewish people living in Germany, less than
one percent of the population. Throughout the years leading up to the official start of World War Two
the Jewish people were treated harshly and condemned for no other reason than the fact that they were
Jewish, in 1935 the Nuremberg laws furthered this condemnation by defining what it meant to be a
Jew, deprived Jews of German citizenship and legally prohibited them from a variety of occupations.
Families were split apart and many families fled as far as they could have from the horrors of a
country they once called home. Hitler s view of the Jewish people is highlighted in his publication
Mein Kampf :
A Jew is and remains a typical parasite, a sponger who like a noxious bacillus keeps spreading as soon
as a favorable medium invites him. And the effect of his existence is also like that of spongers:
wherever he appears, the host people die out. The Jew today is the great agitator for the complete

Analysis Of Do The Right Thing
There are many films in this world that tackle the topic of race. It is an unfortunate truth that leads to
many options when choosing a film to show to the students of Coe College. With a large majority of
the students at Coe being white, choosing a film that addresses the themes of racism in the 20th
century is something that can be a sensitive subject. It is the reason that a film that addresses tension
among different race on a block in Bed Sty is the most appropriate for the audience at Coe College.
The film Do The Right Thing, directed by Spike Lee, challenges the characters in the film, along with
the audience viewing the film to form opinions on sensitive subjects and to do the right thing in a
difficult situation.Spike Lee uses the film, Do The Right Thing, to address racial tension in the 20th
century through his use of color, camera framing and narrative. One of the most striking scenes begins
in the first forty minutes of the film. The scene starts off with the music becoming slow and haunting,
a difference from the high beat music that was playing before, while a police car slowly drives down
the street in the neighborhood of mostly people of color. The camera then cuts to the three black men
who sit on the corner, Sweet Dick Willie, Coconut Sid, and ML. The camera pans across the three
faces, all showing critical glares at the police car. The policeman in the passenger seat is then shown,
displaying a similar glare to the black men. The tension can be felt in

Marriage And Arranged Marriages
So this topic that I have been wanting to address for awhile. I was talking to a friend the other day
about the whole dating aspect of BYU Idaho as well as just in the Mormon community. Now my
friend grew up outside of the church and so she has seen both the Mormon culture of dating as well as
the way that the world does it. Now she pointed out to me something that I never really thought of
before. She told me that it almost seems like we are so focused on the aspect of dating and getting
married because in our culture that is something that we strongly believe in because of the covenants
that we make with marriage. She said that we are in a sense having these arranged type of marriages,
in the sense that everyone around us is telling us to date this person or that person or get married
because it is a commandment and we are making these decisions not because we truly love this person
or we even truly believe that we want to get married, or even fully understand the promises we will be
making to that person and also to God. We aren t fully making this decision because we truly believe
that it is a good choice but because others around us think so and to me that does seem a little bit like
an arranged marriage.
I m not totally knocking arranged marriages because there are a lot of people out there who make
them work, even more than people who choose the person that they marry. The only thing I disagree

How Did Marie Curie Contribute To Research
The pair were both very dedicated scientists and at first worked on separate projects. Marie was very
interested in the work of a French physicist named Henri Becquerel. He discovered that uranium casts
off rays. Marie Curie took Henri Becquerel s work a little further and conducted experiments on
uranium rays. She discovered that the rays remained the same despite the condition or form of the
uranium. This idea created the field of atomic physics and Madame Curie invented the term
radioactivity to describe the occurrence. Later, in 1897, Marie and Pierre had a daughter. The birth of
their daughter didn t slow down their work. In order to help Marie with her exploration of
radioactivity, Pierre decided to put his work aside. In 1898 they both discovered a new radioactive
element. They named it polonium in honor of Marie s country, Poland. The pair also discovered the
existence of another radioactive material in the pitchblende, they named it radium. In 1902, the pair
announced that they made a decigram of pure radium and demonstrated its existence as a special

Cause And Effect Of Global Warming
Global warming or climate change is a very serious problem in the world today. Global warming is the
current increase in temperature of the Earth s surface (both land and water) as well as its atmosphere,
says Emily Crouse. Global temperatures have risen about 1.4°F over the last hundred years. As small
and unimportant as this sounds, it is extremely dangerous for this Earth. If the temperature has risen
this much in 100 years what will happen in 1,000? Rising temperatures mean rising sea levels, more
wildfires, bigger and stronger storms, more allergies and disease outbreaks, and so much more. There
are many causes of global warming, whether it be by human or naturally, for instance, deforestation or
the burning of fossil fuels contributes to global warming in a negative way.
Human disturbance plays a huge role in the effect of global warming. 97% percent of scientists say
humans are to blame for global warming. This is because the 40% rise of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution or the 70 million metric tons of carbon dioxide we add to
the atmosphere every single day. Simple everyday activities like driving a car or things businesses do
daily like burn fossil fuels or certain businesses like cutting down trees all add carbon. Cars emit
around 24 pounds of carbon dioxide and other global warming gases for every gallon of gas. Many car
companies are finding ways to solve it by creating cars that run on electricity or energy. A big new
brand, named Tesla, has started coming out with cars like that for expensive prices but significantly
lowered them when they realized how much people loved them. They are soon releasing a moderate
priced car for the same benefits. This is just one example of the ways humans are contributing to the
environment in a negative way by tweaking the global temperature and trying bit by bit to fix it.
As much as humans contribute, natural causes are a big as well. Mostly, the temperature is rising due
to the sun s variation of light. This change in solar radiation is related to the number of sunspots.
Sunspots are darker areas on the sun s surface. When they happen they come closer to earth s
atmosphere and cause the change in solar radiation.

Factors That Affect Soil Temperatures On Two Important Ways
Mulches
Mulches can influence soil temperatures in two important ways. The first way is through absorbing or
reflecting incoming light. Dark mulches, such as solid black or woven plastic, absorb solar radiation
and can transfer this energy to warm the soil below. Lighter mulches, such as white plastic or straw
and hay mulches, reflect more light and do not warm soil temperatures as much. Under warm summer
conditions lighter mulches can be a benefit because they may keep soil temperatures lower and less
variable, which can be an advantage to plants.
The second way that mulches alter soil temperatures is by reducing heat loss. Heat can be lost from
soil through the evaporation of water or when air temperatures are lower than soil temperatures (such
as at night). Mulches, both plastic and natural, can retain heat by reducing both of these losses. Using
mulches can also require attention to watering because irrigation is needed when impermeable plastic
mulches are used. Natural mulches must also be carefully chosen to avoid the potential for
introduction of weed seeds or herbicides (for more information on these topics, see W 346D: The TN
vegetable garden: Plant management practices).
Floating row covers
Also known as direct covers, floating row covers are usually nonwoven plastic films or agricultural
fabrics that can be applied directly over crops. These covers can be installed in large sections that
cover many rows in the garden. The edges are usually secured with soil,

Why Are Myths Still Relevant To Today
Myths still endure today, because it sets a moral cod, explains natural phenomenon, and entertains the
reader. One reason mythology sill endures is because it sets a moral code for future people to follow.
For example in the story Achene, the wise goddess Athena turns Arachne into a arachnid, because
Arachne was being very cocky, arrogant, and rude, cause Athena to kick Arachne off her high horse .
Athena tells Arachne to live on wicked girl, live on and spin you and your decedents (Coolidge 51). A
second reason mythology is still relevant is because is explains natural phenomenon. For example in
the story Pandora, Curiosity truly kills the cat because Pandora opens a do not open box, which
releases all the terrible things in this world,

Medium Sized Cats In Education
Medium sized cats are some of the most popular animals in the industry of wildlife education, and for
excellent reason. Cats have fascinated humans for thousands of years and the bigger the cat, the better.
Impressing people with a lion or tiger doesn t take much effort. However, well trained small cats hold
the impact of their larger cousins, while remaining a safer alternative. Some cats, like the ocelot,
bobcat and lynx, are well known by both animal professionals and the public. Other cats tend to stay
unknown to those outside of the animal world, despite being popular working animals. The serval and
the caracal are two such cats who remain anonymous to some degree. One of the reasons for this is the
human condition of associating what we see with something else. Often times people see serval and
think cheetah, or see caracal and jump to mountain lion. Even after explaining what the animal is,
people will walk away from a show thinking that the baby cheetah was adorable. ... Show more

All of the smaller wild cats bring something special to the table, as well as their own challenges.
Bobcats are well known to people throughout the U.S., which makes them enjoyable to talk about. At
the same time, they are infamous to trainers for their stubborn natures. Ocelots are easy to identify by
their stunning fur, but also by their locking jaws and nasty attitudes. When it comes to showing servals
and caracals, someone might think that they have similar characteristics. If these two cats were only
compared by sight, they would be much alike. Both animals average 30 to 40 pounds with long legs
and large ears. Why, then, is the caracal generally considered to be more difficult to work with than
the serval? Looking at the contrast between caracals and servals in nature, one answer to their
personality differences could be their

Geography Is Destiny Dbq
There is a saying that Geography is destiny . For early civilizations, geography was an obstacle when
it came to survival. As people settled in permanent locations, they relied on the local geographical
features to sustain themselves. As people relied on geography, it helped shape the development of
early civilizations, such as to provide many natural barriers, trade routes, and fertile land. China, for
example, was able to develop and prosper due to its natural barriers. Based on document six, China is
surrounded by the Pacific Ocean (to the west), the Himalayan Mountains (to the southwest), and the
Gobi Desert (up north). These natural barriers helped stop foreigners from invading China, thus
helping the civilization develop. Furthermore,

The Actions of Three Great Men and How They Made Canada...
The Actions of Three Great Men and How They Made Canada Stronger Throughout Canadian history,
we experienced many events that made our country both stronger and weaker. At times, we were
looked upon as a nation with great potential, great peacekeeping service, and even a nation where its
citizens were proud to be Canadian. Although, Canada did show signs of negativity as some of our
actions made us look like terrible people and overall others had a weak view of the nation. During the
20th century, there were however 3 men that did prove that they did what they did not just only for
themselves, but for the commonwealth of the population. These 3 men, William Lyon Mackenzie
King, Lester Bowles Pearson, and Pierre Elliot Trudeau shaped ... Show more content on

There were some issues in the system and how it operated but overall, Canada s elderly were given
financial help that most needed in order to survive. This was a piece of Canada that was able to
become stronger in the sense of stability. Aside from the Old Age Pension Act, King also created the
Unemployment Insurance Act, which are social welfare payments given to the unemployed
population. At first, the Unemployment Act excluded many types of employment such as agriculture,
and jobs that earned more than $2,000 per year (Makarenko, 1). This was the responsibility of the
provinces, but after acquiring unanimous provincial consent, he made it become a federal issue
(Makarenko, 1). The British Parliament made a change to the British North American Act (now the
Canadian Constitution) stating that unemployment insurance was now a federal power and not a
provincial power (Makarenko, 1). King introduced a nationwide public system of unemployment
insurance, which was funded by employees, employers, and the federal government (Makarenko, 1).
This action helped Canada become stronger due to the fact that it provided an income for the people
who couldn t work due to maternity issues, amputations, and illness. Now, the people who couldn t
support themselves had relief from the government which abled them to be able to survive and keep
poverty on a lower scale. With these 3 actions that Mackenzie King had

Auditing And Auditing Essay
Introduction Employees today can see variation as an opportunity rather than a risk. Tim M. and
Timboon F., were the ones who observed that change is truly in the present business environment and
if done properly, it can aide the growth of business. When a person changes their job responsibilities,
they need to be aware of what can be considered a reasonable change in the latitude of their position
and what can constitute termination. Sensible changes are those that do not change the essential
position. Below are examples of the unfair and fair job changes: An administrative staff member who
is inquired to undertake lunch coverage of the reception duties or learn current system could be taken
to fall within the scope of an Office Assistant. Moving the same Office Assistant into a role which
contains basic of food and beverage service could constitute a redundancy situation. Implementing
changes to an employee s job description may have risks, occurring most often when the employee
claims the following: 1) Their position is redundant. 2) They have been efficiently and effectively
dismissed unfairly. They have been unfavorably treated because of a protected characteristic. Types of
Auditors and Audits Auditors are categorized by the kind of engagement. There exist external
auditors, internal auditors, government auditors, forensic auditors, public auditors, and information
technology auditors. Each of the auditors has different roles and can perform various types of

  • 3. Turkey As A Country State Turkey Turkey in my opinion is one the most underrated countries in the eastern world. It is a beautiful country with an expansive culture and society. Turkey is essentially the bridge of where the East meets the West in that area of the world. Founded in 1923, Turkey to this day is one of the only country in the world with a Muslim Democracy. Its interesting political history combined with the rich culture that resides in Turkey creates a very unique nation states. But how exactly did Turkey become the nation state it is today, and what even makes it a nation state in the first place? These are questions that must be addressed in order to truly understand Turkey as a country. In order to look at the history of Turkey, we have to understand what a nation state truly is. It isn t quite the same as either a nation or a state, but somewhere in between. A state, according to An Introduction to Global Studies, is a fixed territory with boundaries, a population, a government, and the capacity to enter into relation with other states (Campbell et al, 32). While this description sounds awfully similar to a nation, there are actually some key differences. A nation is actually a shared culture or ethnic identity, instead of being legally recognized by geography. Nations are not based on territory, but instead based on culture. So, with these differentiations between a nation and a state, a nation state is a nice blend of the two. A nation state is a very specific kind of state, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Death Of The Pregnancy Test Essay Many women find themselves in situations that leave them with an unwanted pregnancy and abort their baby. The cause of abortion could simply be a birth control failure, from rape or incest, inability to take care of the child, or in most cases, pressure from others. Whatever the case may be, these women have chosen to get rid of their child, without thinking of the consequences after it is done. After a mother chooses to abort her baby, she will be greatly affected psychologically and could possibly change her and her future family s life forever. Before the procedure is done, the mother of the child is positive about her decision, unaware of the mental experiences she will be going through. Nonetheless, after the operation is done, the mother will experience personal shame that could result in repressed grief, causing serious problems. The anxiety over the unwanted pregnancy; the drama of the pregnancy test; often, the difficulty of making the decision, then the waiting before the abortion can take place; perhaps protesters in front of the clinic; the abortion clinic waiting room, crowded perhaps with other emotional women and men; the abortion itself the doctors and nurses, the stirrups, the vacuum or other machinery then the recovery room; the pain and bleeding afterward. All these dramatic experiences are likely to provide her with indelible memories. A woman may return to them and relive them over and over. It was never possible for everyone in our country to achieve the American dream to begin with. Reaching the American dream is still possible, but it is not attainable for everyone. In fact, the whole idea of the American dream is subjective. Those who dream have their own view of what the real dream for their future as an American holds, as quoted in an article by William A.V. In fact, there are many versions of the American dream, and how people define it depends greatly on their age, cultural identity, and citizenship status. • 15. Theme Of Supernatural In Macbeth And Julius Caesar Introduction In tragedies of William Shakespeare, themes and characteristic concerns of the author with human nature emerge through a number of dramatic devices and defining features of his characters (Randell 1976). The supernatural, then, in the form of ghosts, visions, strange occurrences or witches, serves as one of these dramatic techniques, presenting an underlying characteristic of several Shakespeare s plays. This essay is going to discuss The Tragedy of Macbeth (1623) and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar (1623), and their depictions of the supernatural, suggesting ways in which this feature is used and explored. It will be investigated how characters and their deeds relate to the supernatural, and what is revealed about human actions, their causes and implications. Thus, on the one hand, this text will explore the supernatural as a defining feature that goes against established order, from social stratification to societal understanding of evil. On the other hand, it will be argued that, in fact, Shakespeare s supernatural elements move beyond the categories of good and evil, and tell the audience something about human nature, as well as laws of the natural world that may very well incorporate the concept of supernatural. Hence, it will be postulated that the idea of unnatural suggests a further ambiguity between heroes and villains, free will and destiny, or nature and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Viral and bacterial encephalitis can easily be mistaken as the flu with shocking long term effects. In many cases, encephalitis does not last long and has a mild effect. However, in some cases encephalitis can be life threatening. About 10,000 to 20,000 cases of encephalitis are reported each year in the United States (Ehrlich, 2014). There are two types of encephalitis that can infect the brain cells known as primary and secondary encephalitis. Primary encephalitis is when the viruses attack the brain through the blood stream and into the nerve cells; it is then grouped together and multiplies. After multiplying, it is spread throughout the brain. Secondary encephalitis is when the virus infects a person by first infecting the other tissues in the body and then attacks the brain. Viruses that are transmitted from other tissues usually cause focal infection, meaning they produce extensive damage in only a small area of the brain (Simon, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Underground mining involves large scale movements of rock and vegetation, which creates potential risks of land and tunnel collapse. Furthermore, this process of mining can release toxic compounds into surrounding water bodies. As the water takes on harmful concentrations, it can pollute the region surrounding the mine, as well as neighbouring water bodies. This can affect the growth of vegetation, animals and humans living in the surrounding areas. This form of mining also has high demand for water, which can deplete supplies in the surrounding region (Web.mit.edu, 2017). When copper is mined, toxic compounds are released into the air. The dust released during the mining of copper can release a variety of impurities associated with common health problems. Mining is also dependent on fossil fuels, which when released have harmful effects on the atmosphere (Web.mit.edu, 2017). An example of the invasive nature of underground copper mining is the Mount Morgan copper mines in Queensland, which ran from the 1880 s to the 1980 s. The remains of this mine were left and have affected the water quality of the Dee River. The water in the Dee River has become acidic, and is not suitable for drinking, swimming or fishing. During the Progressive Era the Second Industrial Revolution was in action, sprouting new technological advancements and ground breaking creations or processes. During this era, new inventions were being made and big monopolies were increasing their use of natural resources to a point where it was becoming harmful. One of the areas of resources that was becoming alarmingly low was forests and lumber, leading to the Forest Reserve Act of 1891. This act, which occurred during the conservation reform, allowed the president to choose forests of interests and claim them as reserves, protecting them from being harmed or negatively affected by big businesses. With the Forest Act many other acts protecting the Earth s resources sprung up as well. All of the acts that were passed restricted important resources from being wasted and blatantly used for company production areas. These acts, enlisted in terms of the government, would allow the president to choose areas in which resources could always exist and couldn t be overused. • 27. African Colonialism During Post Colonial Colonialism It is evident that European colonialism had deeply affected the political system within post colonial Africa. One of the main leading legacies of colonialism that hindered the development of post colonial African states would be the ethnic division and the state conflicts resulting from ethnic rivalry after independence . Scholars would argue the weakness within African politics would be due to creation of forty new states brought about by the European colonial powers in the Berlin Conference of 1884 to 1885; which had artificial state borders within the continent having little to none parallelism to reality. For example, Nigeria is clearly demonstrates that the legacy of the state boundaries that had created new political entities carried. Moreover, with the colonies compromising of many different religions, ethnic groups and languages, there were cultural differences that had created ethnic divisions and rivalries which had been intensified after independence in post colonial Africa. After Nigeria had become independent in 1960, the military took over and the economic situation worsened, this had led to rising conflicts between the two main ethnic groups, the Hausa and the Igbo, as to who should have power in the new country . Hitler s View Of The Jewish People Essay From 1939 to 1945 the world saw actions and atrocities unparalleled in the War against Germany, the legacies of such actions we are still seeing today. Perhaps the most notable atrocity that was born from this war was the persecution of Jewish people in Germany and around Europe and the corresponding murder of up to 6 million Jewish people . When Adolf Hitler s National Socialist party seized power on January 30, 1933, there were approximately 525,000 Jewish people living in Germany, less than one percent of the population. Throughout the years leading up to the official start of World War Two the Jewish people were treated harshly and condemned for no other reason than the fact that they were Jewish, in 1935 the Nuremberg laws furthered this condemnation by defining what it meant to be a Jew, deprived Jews of German citizenship and legally prohibited them from a variety of occupations. Families were split apart and many families fled as far as they could have from the horrors of a country they once called home. Hitler s view of the Jewish people is highlighted in his publication Mein Kampf : A Jew is and remains a typical parasite, a sponger who like a noxious bacillus keeps spreading as soon as a favorable medium invites him. • 42. Cause And Effect Of Global Warming Global warming or climate change is a very serious problem in the world today. Global warming is the current increase in temperature of the Earth s surface (both land and water) as well as its atmosphere, says Emily Crouse. Global temperatures have risen about 1.4°F over the last hundred years. As small and unimportant as this sounds, it is extremely dangerous for this Earth. If the temperature has risen this much in 100 years what will happen in 1,000? Rising temperatures mean rising sea levels, more wildfires, bigger and stronger storms, more allergies and disease outbreaks, and so much more. There are many causes of global warming, whether it be by human or naturally, for instance, deforestation or the burning of fossil fuels contributes to global warming in a negative way. Human disturbance plays a huge role in the effect of global warming. 97% percent of scientists say humans are to blame for global warming. This is because the 40% rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution or the 70 million metric tons of carbon dioxide we add to the atmosphere every single day. Simple everyday activities like driving a car or things businesses do daily like burn fossil fuels or certain businesses like cutting down trees all add carbon. Cars emit around 24 pounds of carbon dioxide and other global warming gases for every gallon of gas. Many car companies are finding ways to solve it by creating cars that run on electricity or energy. A big new brand, named Tesla, has started coming out with cars like that for expensive prices but significantly lowered them when they realized how much people loved them. They are soon releasing a moderate priced car for the same benefits. This is just one example of the ways humans are contributing to the environment in a negative way by tweaking the global temperature and trying bit by bit to fix it. As much as humans contribute, natural causes are a big as well. Mostly, the temperature is rising due to the sun s variation of light. This change in solar radiation is related to the number of sunspots. Sunspots are darker areas on the sun s surface. When they happen they come closer to earth s atmosphere and cause the change in solar radiation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Factors That Affect Soil Temperatures On Two Important Ways Mulches Mulches can influence soil temperatures in two important ways. The first way is through absorbing or reflecting incoming light. Dark mulches, such as solid black or woven plastic, absorb solar radiation and can transfer this energy to warm the soil below. Lighter mulches, such as white plastic or straw and hay mulches, reflect more light and do not warm soil temperatures as much. Under warm summer conditions lighter mulches can be a benefit because they may keep soil temperatures lower and less variable, which can be an advantage to plants. The second way that mulches alter soil temperatures is by reducing heat loss. Heat can be lost from soil through the evaporation of water or when air temperatures are lower than soil temperatures (such as at night). Mulches, both plastic and natural, can retain heat by reducing both of these losses. Using mulches can also require attention to watering because irrigation is needed when impermeable plastic mulches are used. Natural mulches must also be carefully chosen to avoid the potential for introduction of weed seeds or herbicides (for more information on these topics, see W 346D: The TN vegetable garden: Plant management practices). Floating row covers Also known as direct covers, floating row covers are usually nonwoven plastic films or agricultural fabrics that can be applied directly over crops. These covers can be installed in large sections that cover many rows in the garden. The edges are usually secured with soil, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Why Are Myths Still Relevant To Today Myths still endure today, because it sets a moral cod, explains natural phenomenon, and entertains the reader. One reason mythology sill endures is because it sets a moral code for future people to follow. • 45. Medium Sized Cats In Education Medium sized cats are some of the most popular animals in the industry of wildlife education, and for excellent reason. Cats have fascinated humans for thousands of years and the bigger the cat, the better. Impressing people with a lion or tiger doesn t take much effort. However, well trained small cats hold the impact of their larger cousins, while remaining a safer alternative. Some cats, like the ocelot, bobcat and lynx, are well known by both animal professionals and the public. Other cats tend to stay unknown to those outside of the animal world, despite being popular working animals. The serval and the caracal are two such cats who remain anonymous to some degree. One of the reasons for this is the human condition of associating what we see with something else. Often times people see serval and think cheetah, or see caracal and jump to mountain lion. Even after explaining what the animal is, people will walk away from a show thinking that the baby cheetah was adorable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the smaller wild cats bring something special to the table, as well as their own challenges. Bobcats are well known to people throughout the U.S., which makes them enjoyable to talk about. At the same time, they are infamous to trainers for their stubborn natures. Ocelots are easy to identify by their stunning fur, but also by their locking jaws and nasty attitudes. When it comes to showing servals and caracals, someone might think that they have similar characteristics. If these two cats were only compared by sight, they would be much alike. Both animals average 30 to 40 pounds with long legs and large ears. Why, then, is the caracal generally considered to be more difficult to work with than the serval? Looking at the contrast between caracals and servals in nature, one answer to their personality differences could be their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Geography Is Destiny Dbq There is a saying that Geography is destiny . For early civilizations, geography was an obstacle when it came to survival. As people settled in permanent locations, they relied on the local geographical features to sustain themselves. As people relied on geography, it helped shape the development of early civilizations, such as to provide many natural barriers, trade routes, and fertile land. China, for example, was able to develop and prosper due to its natural barriers. Based on document six, China is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean (to the west), the Himalayan Mountains (to the southwest), and the Gobi Desert (up north). These natural barriers helped stop foreigners from invading China, thus helping the civilization develop. Furthermore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Actions of Three Great Men and How They Made Canada... The Actions of Three Great Men and How They Made Canada Stronger Throughout Canadian history, we experienced many events that made our country both stronger and weaker. At times, we were looked upon as a nation with great potential, great peacekeeping service, and even a nation where its citizens were proud to be Canadian. Although, Canada did show signs of negativity as some of our actions made us look like terrible people and overall others had a weak view of the nation. During the 20th century, there were however 3 men that did prove that they did what they did not just only for themselves, but for the commonwealth of the population. These 3 men, William Lyon Mackenzie King, Lester Bowles Pearson, and Pierre Elliot Trudeau shaped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were some issues in the system and how it operated but overall, Canada s elderly were given financial help that most needed in order to survive. This was a piece of Canada that was able to become stronger in the sense of stability. Aside from the Old Age Pension Act, King also created the Unemployment Insurance Act, which are social welfare payments given to the unemployed population. At first, the Unemployment Act excluded many types of employment such as agriculture, and jobs that earned more than $2,000 per year (Makarenko, 1). This was the responsibility of the provinces, but after acquiring unanimous provincial consent, he made it become a federal issue (Makarenko, 1). The British Parliament made a change to the British North American Act (now the Canadian Constitution) stating that unemployment insurance was now a federal power and not a provincial power (Makarenko, 1). King introduced a nationwide public system of unemployment insurance, which was funded by employees, employers, and the federal government (Makarenko, 1). This action helped Canada become stronger due to the fact that it provided an income for the people who couldn t work due to maternity issues, amputations, and illness. Now, the people who couldn t support themselves had relief from the government which abled them to be able to survive and keep poverty on a lower scale.
