2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

1. Inventions Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of inventions can be a challenging yet intellectually rewarding
endeavor. The complexity arises from the vast scope of the topic, as inventions span a myriad of
fields, from technology and science to art and everyday conveniences. The difficulty lies not
only in selecting a specific aspect to focus on but also in navigating the extensive history of
human ingenuity.
To begin, one must delve into the historical evolution of inventions, exploring key milestones and
breakthroughs that have shaped societies. The research involved is multifaceted, requiring a
comprehensive understanding of various disciplines. Moreover, it necessitates sifting through
copious amounts of information to distill the most relevant and impactful inventions.
The essay must not merely chronicle inventions but also delve into their societal, cultural, and
economic implications. Analyzing how inventions have influenced human behavior, reshaped
industries, and altered the course of history adds another layer of complexity. This demands a
nuanced approach, blending historical context with contemporary perspectives.
Additionally, discussing the ethical dimensions of inventions introduces a layer of sensitivity.
Many inventions have both positive and negative consequences, and addressing this duality
requires a thoughtful exploration of ethical considerations. Balancing the excitement of
innovation with a critical examination of its potential drawbacks can be intellectually demanding.
The challenge further intensifies when attempting to articulate these ideas coherently. Ensuring a
smooth flow of thoughts, maintaining a logical structure, and presenting a persuasive argument
all contribute to the difficulty of the task. The essay must engage the reader, fostering an
appreciation for the significance of inventions and their enduring impact on our lives.
In conclusion, writing an essay on inventions demands a meticulous blend of historical insight,
interdisciplinary knowledge, ethical reflection, and effective communication skills. Despite its
inherent difficulty, the process can be immensely gratifying as it encourages a deeper
understanding of the forces that have shaped human progress.

Speaking from experience, everyone goes through their everyday struggles to
become successful in their life. We face new challenges that make us into the people
that we are today. Ellen DeGeneres is a person that has worked very hard to
overcome the obstacles throughout her life. And this has helped her become one of
the most successful and loved women of her time.
Ellen DeGeneres was born on January 29, 1958 in Jefferson, Louisiana. Her older
brother Vance is also a comedy writer. From 1999 to 2001 he was also a
correspondent with The Daily Show. Ellen is the daughter of Elliot and Betty
DeGeneres. Her father was an insurance salesman and her mother was a working
mom. When Ellen was in her teens her parents got divorced. In 1997, she came out
as gay, and became a staunch advocate of LGBT rights. (A E Television Networks

the world that are not open to the idea of anyone being different than they are.
Also, in her youth Ellen worked various jobs. Ellen did clerical work for a law
firm, which was followed by a string of jobs: working retail, waiting tables, house

Material
Question:
Journeys allow travelers to reflect on their own experiences because of new
knowledge gained and greater insight into themselves and the world around them.
How do composers explore this aspect of journeys?
Essay Answer:
It is presumed that journeys are uplifting experiences, with the implication that new
knowledge and greater insight allow travelers to gain wisdom and solidify a coherent
view of the world. Yet, experiences through journeys can result in new knowledge
clashing with preconceived beliefs, potentially disabling the traveler s epistemology.
Furthermore, a traveler cannot ignore this conflicting knowledge and return to his
prior self at the conclusion of his journey. These themes are explored in Robert Gray
s poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traveller embarks on a journey, backwards in time that demonstrates that the past
is a more civil place than the future. Similarly to the traveller in Flames and Dangling
Wire, the journeyer in Gardens of the Night sees that the future can be a destructive
place, going against the idea that the world will continue to advance to a better
society. The extended sentences mirror the surreal qualities of Coral City, as
compared to the regimes, and the rules and the regulations of government and state
which his present civilisation is constricted by. These features of present time are
listed with conjunctions, separating the prominent issues, rather than creating fluidity
with the use of commas. On his travels, the traveller has to put on my disguise to
cover the truths that have polluted the present time. From this, it can be drawn that
the traveler is ashamed of his origins, and has to wear a disguise free of lies and
destruction. Because of exposure to a civilisation that seems above human nature, the
more developed time of disputes and mass destruction is an unsatisfactory and
incongruous depiction of how the world should operate. The traveller accepts this,
although he has to cope with the disillusionment of returning to the guardianship of
institutions that plague the future world. Gardens of the Night has points of high
modality, emphasising the scope of damage present in the future. For instance, the
traveller acknowledges that

Ryan, you re drunk. Charlie shook his head and responded calmly.
You guys aren t dating anymore! Ryan exclaimed and looked around for confirmation
that he wasn t crazy.
Actually, Charlie started to say with a smirk, but was cut off when Ryan s fist
connected with his jaw. Charlie stumbled back a step and rose up to throw a punch
back at him but Scarlett was there all the sudden. She shoved Ryan back with all of
her strength.
What the hell is wrong with you? Why do you have to hate Charlie so much? Scarlett
screamed.
Ryan shook his head at her, let out a big sigh, and walked back into the main club.
Scarlett whirled around and looked at Charlie s face but he just pulled her into him.
He held Scarlett tightly for a moment when his phone started to vibrate in his
pocket. Nikolai s name appeared on his screen as the caller ID along with a picture of
Charlie and Nikolai when Charlie first arrived at the Academy.
Take it outside so that you can hear him. Scarlett whispered and nodded.
You stay right here okay? Charlie demanded as he backed out of the room.
Charlie pressed the answer button and jogged out of the club before bringing the
phone up to his ear. He had gone out the front door and nodded to the bouncer as he
jogged by. Charlie walked back to their cars and propped himself up onto

A Raisin in the Sun was written by Lorraine Hansberry and is a play about an
African American family who are struggling in the 1950 s to keep the family
together. Although the play is portrayed in the 50 s many issues like the economy,
racism, and family dynamics the characters had to face; these issues are still issues
in the 21st century. So money is life... things have changed Mama Pg. 75. In the
quote Mama is surprised that money has the power to make or break the world;
and more importantly that it has such a strong grip on her son Walter. I can see
Walters s displeasure when he is denied the money needed to fund his liquor store
by Mama. The economic status of most Blacks in the 1950 s was poor; most had

The Stock Market determines how many people have jobs and how many things
are available at one time; it can also determine the type of jobs we currently need
or have. One example from the past concerning the Stock Market is the Great
Depression; where everyone was suffering, there was no jobs or economical
stability. This was near the writing of the play by about twenty years; so Mama
would have seen it and experienced the hardship during that time period. One
present example of this is the 2008 Recession; it was the worst global economic
meltdown since the Great Depression. In conclusion the economy will decide the
social status of individuals, the jobs of our society and overall the Stock Market of
our world. Our Negro families are happier when they live in their own

of racism and gender discrimination from Walter when he asked Beneatha why she

1. Identify the various types of goods (private, public, and in between) involved in
this case. What was the primary objective being sought, and how was it being
financed? Explain the unintended consequences of the financing approach. Is that
financing approach appropriate for the type of good involved?
In the case involving the City of Boston and its residents, various types of goods
exist. The primary resource that is being debated in this case study is water. In this
instance, water is both a public and private good. It is public when the City of
Boston provides it and private when it is dispensed by a private well. Therefore, in
this situation, water has many different characteristics as it is both exclusion feasible

Charging the users of wells is justifiable as the city maintains the obligation of
disposing of the expended water. In the Boston case study, it was mentioned that
Legal Sea Foods uses a well capable of providing 15,000 gallons per day for laundry

charging a permit fee for installing a well, should dissuade people from leaving the

ANALYSIS
The aim of the document is deal with cyber threats and protect the information of
citizens. Despite the existence of governmental, private, and civil society initiatives to
counter the impact of such threats, an appropriate approach needed to be
implemented by Colombia.
At present, Colombia is one of a number of countries that do not have a national
cybersecurity and cyberdefense strategy that includes an organizational system and a
legal and institutional framework. Columbia has not yet implemented a national
CSIRT or CERT.
The increasing number of Internet users, as well as the strong dependence of
Colombia s critical infrastructure on electronic media and the considerable rise in the
number of cybersecurity incidents and crimes have highlighted the country s high
vulnerability to cyber threats, such as use of the Internet for terrorist purposes,
sabotage of public services, espionage, and theft, among others.
The CSIRT should be efficient, precise, and automated data analysis. In developing
CSIRT we need to consider How to prepare and store your data
How to give your operation authority and clarity with a solid logging policy
What metadata is and why you should care about it
How to develop and structure incident detection logic into your own playbook

Iberian Lynx are disappearing, and there are only about 300 left in the wild. They are

(www.lifetimetv.co.uk) The absence of his father may have had an influence on him
based on the idea that father absence has an impact on the health and well being of
children and may have an impact that reaches much further than adolescence. Father

13. The Song This Jesus Must Die
Musicals are a living form of art. A musical combines dance, dialogue, characters,
music, costumes and vocals in order to represent a moral issue. Some appear at the
forefront of the plot while others are presented alongside the storyline. A fitting
example of a musical, is Jesus Christ Superstar composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
This musical is perfect as it is entirely sung, has amazing rock musicand has themes
and moral issues carefully intertwine throughout the plot. However, the largest moral
issue or dilemma is how popularity can negatively and positively affect the main
character Jesus.
The song This Jesus must Die is an excellent example of the negative side of
popularity, as it shows the Romans planning to kill Jesus before he surpasses them
in power. The song begins with a moderate tempo of 72bpm in a time signature of
4/4. However, the use of semibreves and the organ slows the perceived tempo,
giving the score a ghostly and ominous feel (seen in bars 1 13 and figure 1 and 2).
This ominous feel is throughout these bars, as it represents the tension between Jesus
s power and the Roman authority. This also clearly sets up the roman s character, as
a dominating evil force. Furthermore, the use dissonant harmonies in the key of D

tone. Although, the bass and drums support the vocalist by emphasising key words

and Simon s words are emphasised adding more meaning to his lyrics or like they are

During the late and early eighteenth and nineteenth centuries Great Britain started

hours on end only ending up with only the smallest amount of pay. They would
return to work each day for month and months just to save up for enough money to
get a good education for themselves. I will be researching on how so many kids

How was their strategy influenced by these parties? Did their strategy reflect

definitely influenced by its customers and its competitor. From a competitor s
standpoint Costco wanted to a provide services, prices, and products that rivaled its
competitor Sam s Club. Costco s combining of high quality and low prices id the
driving for behind Costco s success. It is evident that Sam Walton, with Wal Mart

A report published in 2008 titled Transit Co operation Research Program (TCRP)
synthesis 78 based on the survey responses provided by 94 educational institutions
revealed some facts about the transit systems in college and universities (TRB, 2008).
The most of the survey respondents were from four year universities. All of the
universities indicated that they have either self operated transit system or a public
transportation office operated transit system to serve the campus communities. The
most of the respondents agreed that the headway was less than 10 minutes for these
transit stations in the college. The report showed that 29 transit systems charged no
busfare for students and 26 transit systems charged $1.00 to $1.50 per local bus ride.
However, majority of shuttle services for on campus circulation were offered free to
ride. Another interesting fact mentioned in the report was that around 60% of the
universities utilized remote park and rideservices. The report revealed the fact that
many institutions were found to be charging low parking prices to their staffs and
faculties. Nine institutions reported to have annual parking fee less than $100. The
report also mentioned that this reduced parking price was not supporting the concept
of reducing the number of single occupant vehicle (SOV). The report recommended
for conducting more research on the safety system, including late night safety and

21. Harakiri Honor Essay
Honor holds no code, it cannot be summarized or created, the bushido code did not
create honor amongst samurai but rather it allowed for more corruption and
institutionalized cowardice. The movie portrayed these samurai as honorable
warriors that upheld the bushido code. In the film Harakiri, peels away the facade of
honor in samuraiby illustrating how the Iyi clan utilizes societal ethics and political
philosophies in order to justify their own power hungry bloodlust and honor.
One of the first major scenes that provided this façade of honor is the armor of
the Iyi clan. The armor symbolizes the hallowed belief of honor held by the Iyi
clan. The armor also signifies the stability of the institution and the nobility of
samurai honor. The armor is engulfed by fog in the opening scene to suggest
somehow authority is illusory or mythical. The clan s journal reads that no official
business is worth noting to insinuate the events that are about to be relayed have
been erased from Iyi records to hide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is prominent in the story of Chijiwe Motome. Chijiwe is a poor ronin who
comes Iyi clan requesting audience for harakiri. But, he soon learned that the Iyi
would not be fooled into offering him a way out. Saito approved the act, and
commanded that it be performed immediately to adhere to the samurai honor.
Because of the caste system in Japan, he had to perform the seppuku using a
bamboo sword since he sold his real sword to help his wife and child. Saito exploited
the bushido code to make Chijiwe an example. Saito was tired of the expoitlation
for the clan s wealth and mercies. Saito made Chijiwe perform seppuku not because
of honor but to make an example of him. Clearly, for this clan, upholding the
strictures of the samurai code and perception of power is more important than
compassion and empathy towards one s fellow
22. The Rhetoric Of The Mothers Of Plaza De Mayo
To continue with the private vis Г vis public realm, we now turn to Valeria Farj s
Motherhood as political voice: The rhetoric of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo .
Much like Taylor, Farj also focuses on the notion of a double identity that is used in
the movement. Farj states, This paper analyzes the rhetoric of the Mothers of Plaza
de Mayo. Specifically it looks at how these women have chosen to speak in the
public realm by using voices of motherhood from the private realm . Even with her
title, Farj makes a strong statement of the use of identity of motherhood and the
transformation this later has to act as political voice in the Plaza de Mayo. Similarly
to Taylor, Farj echoes the struggles women faced back then and reinforces the
struggles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when this did not happen the military labeled these women as mad women
because they did not stay where they belonged, because of their illegal demonstrations
and lastly because of a disobedience to the cultural and patriarchal expectations .
Once again, it is seen that the identity on the private realm hinders the capability and
legitimacy of these women in the public realm. Nevertheless, this madness had a
positive side, as for the first time women broke through the limitations of home and
motherhood into the public sphere of government ; and subsequently this identity
shaped the movement as these women found a voice in their role as Mothers .
Besides using a strong identity from the private sphere, these mothers also turned
private symbols used in the home sphere and turned them into public symbols. The
mothers found symbols to voice their concern, without posing a threat to the military.
These symbols were also chosen upon their motherhood identity that relate to the

23. Natural Trumpet History
The natural trumpet was very different in comparison to the trumpet we have and
think of today. The modern trumpet is made mostly of brass and copper, three valves,
and a four slides. Modern trumpets are used for many purposes including ensemble
and solo playing. Early natural trumpets were short straight instruments made of
wood or metal which were used for both militaristic and ceremonial purposes. The
natural trumpethad no holes or valves for altering pitches, while the trumpet today has
three valves for altering the pitches. The pitches on the natural trumpet were altered
by the performer adjusting his or her embouchure and the speed of the air being
used; while this concept is used while playing the modern trumpet, we have valves to

One of the more interesting developments that has happened recently is the
introduction of the pTrumpet, or plastic trumpet. The pTrumpet is, as the name
suggests, a trumpet that is made entirely out of plastic. The entirety of the instrument
is made of plastic, including the valves. It is incredible seeing how far the trumpet
has come and how much changed from the natural trumpet to the modern trumpet,
from no valves to three valves. The development of the trumpet was no doubt
attributed to the demands and the music that composers composed over time. As time
goes on, the trumpet has and will continue to develop as the demands and needs of
composers continue to
24. Marriage In The Miller s Tale
The word Marriage is defined as, The state of being united as spouses in a
consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (Marrium Webster). Per
the tales of Chaucer, marriage is so much more than that. By pulling back the layers
of some of his tales, I found that Chaucer had several different views on marriage,
what makes it work, and what doesn t. I examined the following tales: The Wife of
Bath , The Clerk s Tale , The Merchant s Tale , The Miller s Tale , and The Franklin
s Tale . I found that according to Chaucer, the qualities that can make or break a
marriage include: control, trust, loyalty, and age or youth. This paper will explain
each tale and aim to show how each role is played out in each of those tales. The
Wife of Bath is a tale about a knight who rapes a girl and is sentenced to death.
However, the Queen wants to spare his life so she offers him a quest. She sends him
hunting for an answer as to what it is that women want most. He goes out on this
quest and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A similar story happens in The Miller s Tale where a woman named Alisoun and
her lover, Nicholas, come up with a story that a great flood is coming and they
must all spend the night in boats hanging from the rafters. She tries to outsmart her
husband so that she can have a night alone with her lover, and once again, it works.
Both stories seem to insinuate that age plays a huge role in the success and
happiness in a marriage. It shows readers that by being younger, both women have
a sort of power over their husbands. As long as they are making their husbands
happy, the husbands turn an eye to the things they ought not to be doing. One article
even says that John, Alisoun s husband, is a cuckold , and goes on to say that, [he]
is blinded in some figurative way; but, in part, it is [his] own limited definition of
women which blinds him (Carroll 78). Being young gives the women the power in

25. Schindler s List by Steven Spielberg
Good morning/afternoon, today I will be analysing a scene from Steven Spielberg
s master piece film Schindler s List. Movie extraordinaire Steven Spielberg, who is
a world renown director of countless memorable films, show cases his incredible
skill and compelling power towards the audience, without using any dialogue in the
most pivotal character development scene in Schindler s List. Referred too, by the
audience as The girl in red .
Before I delve in to the depths of this scene and why it is so significant to the film, it
is important I outline the story of Schindler s list. This film is all about Oskar
Schindler; a successful business man, womanizer and member of the Nazi party. A
true story, about a man making a living using Jewish workers in factories, producing
anything from pots and pans too brass tank ammunition shells, during the height of
WW2. Throughout the start of the film Schindler s humanity is questionable
leaving to audience to ponder whether or not he is a hero or just another Nazi using
the Jewish people as an easy and free work force. This all changes about a third of
the way through the film, when the audience witnesses our questionable hero s
fundamental change of heart for his Jewish working force and as discovered later on
in the film, he spends more money than he can make trying to save them.
What the audience witnesses, is of course the scene I am analysing. During a horse
ride with Schindler s partner, he stops on top of a hill looking down on a
26. Cirrhosis Synthesis
Past literature define cirrhosis as a non reversible end result of liver disease,
however recent studies have shown it s a dynamic process. If K.D stops his alcohol
intake, he will reduce the acetaldehyde and acetate in his body which is the main
causes of cell and tissue damage. The mechanism of tissue reversal takes place by
blocking the formation of excessive acetaldehyde in the mitochondria. In the absence
of excessive alcoholin the cells, only the primary alcohol oxidative metabolic
pathway takes place. Alcohol is metabolized to acetaldehyde by the cytosolic enzyme
alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). Due to the ADH s high affinity and low capacity,
saturation occurs very quickly. If the patient consumes excessive alcohol, the body

27. In The Nineteenth Century, Middle Class White Men Had
The
In the nineteenth century, middle class white men had the most sexual, financial,
and political freedom. The role that men played in society grew during the
industrial period, as white families in the middle class no longer needed to rely
solely on farms to make money; they had other options for work, with factories
beginning to appear all over. White men could also travel to the frontier
communities or join a political career. They were also the only ones able to vote at
the time. The role of women in middle classfamilies also grew as there was a greater
need to control sexuality. In the early nineteenth century, however, sex was seen as
impure and a waste of energy. Women were put on a pedestal of purity and were told
that the woman... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Premarital pregnancy rates were particularly high in rural and frontier areas,
continuing throughout the nineteenth century. Courtship became much more popular
in the nineteenth century as men and women began to leave their domestic spheres
and interact with other members of their community. Southern people courted after
church and western people courted after community events, such as holiday or
harvest celebrations, and urban working class youth courted on the job as well. The
act of courtship facilitated romantic love becoming a norm, as flirting became a norm
wherever there was sexual integration. The idea of marrying for romance impacted
sexuality, and having recreational sex. Many couples from the nineteenth century
wrote in their diaries the intense urge they felt to have sex with their significant other,
although not all of them acted on the urge. The idea that sex and reproduction didn t
have to go hand in hand was what caused people to actively control their sexuality
with various methods of birth control. As these ideas spread throughout the country,
different regions, races, and classes had different ways of controlling their sexuality.
Fertility rates dropped throughout the country in rural and urban areas, but remained
high in frontier communities. However, many southern states didn t care for
controlling sexuality, since there were many farmers making their living off the land.
The larger the family was, the more land they could work on at a time,
28. Symbolism In The Bean Trees
he Bean Trees Symbol Analysis My symbols are flowers, plants, and gardens.
Flowers symbolize beauty, youth, strength, and gentleness (Melani 1). Gardens
symbolize growth, feminine, protection, and miracles (Fraim). Plants symbolize
life, afterlife, strength, and stability (Lipson). The elements of The Bean Trees fit
this symbolic archetype. Plants are found throughout the novel and Taylor s life. In
the Cherokee nation, Turtle points out the window and shouts, Mama (Kingsolver
275). Taylor mentions, We looked, but couldn t see anybody at all on the road.
There were only a gas station and a cemetery. (Kingsolver 275). At the lake, Turtle
buries her doll in the soft dirt at the base of the pine tree (Kingsolver 281). The doll
symbolizes the afterlife because Turtle s biological mother dies (Kingsolver 281).
Taylor explains, Some things grow into bushes or trees when you plantthem, but
other things don t. Beans do, doll babies don t. (Kingsolver 281). Turtle replies,

29. Physical Therapy For Injuries
When an injury requires that a person immobilizes the area injured to prevent
movement during the healing process, it can cause muscles to atrophy. Tendons and
ligaments also become stiff and affect the range of motion when the injured area has
healed. An orthopedist will often send patients to an Injury Rehabilitation Clinic to
help the patient regain strength and range of motion, under the supervision of a
licensed physical therapist.
Physical therapy is used to reduce chronic pain, and to help restore physical function
once an injury has healed. Therapists will also explain to patients how to avoid
further injury in the future. They use manual therapy such as ultrasound, electrical
stimulation, and hot and cold therapy to relieve swelling

Capital
Q1
(a)
The regulatory capital is the minimum amount of capital that the financial regulator
required the banks or the financial institutions to hold (Elizalde Repullo, n.d.). It is
used to help to avoid to risk and reduce the losses that we may have but can t forecast.
( Bank Regulatory Capital Quick Reference , 2016). The figure of the financial capital
is directly set by the financial regulators. The balance sheet capital is the equity part
that we recorded on the balance sheet. The regulatory capital is like a standard that all
the financial institutions have to achieve. The financial institutions must maintain
their capital amount over the minimum amount that the financial regulator required

In 1988, the Basel I was published by the BCBS. It is a new method to the measure
the capital and also it focused on the credit risk and appropriate risk weighting of
assets (International convergence of capital measurement and capital standards,
1988). Under the concept of the risk weighted asset, the regulators can include the
riskiness of the bank s activities into the calculations of the capital adequacy (Lange,
Saunders Millon Cornett, 2015).
The core requirement of the Basel I were 2 capital ratios: a minimum 4% for the
tier 1 capital ratio and the Total capital ratio for 8% (Lange, Saunders Millon
Cornett, 2015). The tier 1 capital Ratio can be calculated by the (common equity
goodwill) / Risk weighted assets (RWA) and the Total capital ratio can be calculated
by Total regulatory capital / Total risk adjusted assets.
Basel II
In Basel II, it improved the measurement of the risk weighted assets. It includes the
market risk, the operational issues and the risks caused by the emergencies like the
terrorisms or natural disasters (Lange, Saunders Millon Cornett, 2015). The Basel II
is more detailed than the Basel I. In the Basel II, it creates a new frame, the Three
pillar frame. The pillar 1 is the Minimum Capital Requirements. It is to maintain the
regulatory capital of the FI by calculating the 3 main risks, the credit risk, market

that Eli Sunday came to the drilling site alone to look for Daniel Plainview. He didn t

32. Essay On Rockfishing
Oil platforms have become such an integral part in the fishing industry and local
economy. Therefore, structures are beneficial not only in the Gulf of Mexico, but
also in the West Coast. Man made environments provide a lifelong habitat for aquatic
animals. According to a new study, the 27 offshore oil rigs that dot the California
coastline provide one of the best marine habitats in the world. Rockfish or demersal
fishare associated with the bottom, says Jeremy Claisse, They want a place to hide

necessity for rockfish. Oil platforms provide rockfish with an outstanding habitat
allowing their species to thrive (Goldfarb). Artificial reefs have had a major impact...

Idle infrastructures may collapse during brutal storms and cause contamination in
gulf waters, damage other active platforms, and create a new navigation route and
safety hazards (Decommissioning and Rigs to Reefs in the Gulf of Mexico FAQ).
Oppositionists disagree with the current Rigs to Reefs policy, which allows
garbage to be sent to the bottom of the ocean floor and proclaimed a reef . Artificial
reefs do not grow fish populations; they simply collect fish from the surrounding
area. This not only encourages overfishing by providing a one stop shop for fishing
fleets, but also negatively impacts migrating species of fish by changing feeding
and spawning patterns. In regards to the fishing industry, shrimpers need a clear
seafloor to run their nets. Giving away the seafloor to artificial reefs violates
agreements between the fishing industry, the oil industry, and the government. With
thousands of rigs due for decommissioning in the next few years, we can either
decide to help restore the Gulf to its former vitality, or allow it to become a
junkyard of epic proportions (Sharp). If people recognized the major benefits the oil
and gas infrastructures offer to the marine life and the fishing industry, they would
understand that the garbage the Rigs to Reef program is placing in the gulf is in fact
the cornucopia of
33. The Spotless Mind
Next I will start discussing the ethical issues represented in the other film Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This film deals with the ethical implications
concerning memory loss. In the film, Joel and Clementine, who are ex lovers,
remove memories of each other. If you could erase someone from your life, would
you? The act of erasing a person s memory appears at first so highly unethical, even
when the characters in the film have actually requested for it. The early stages of the
film suggests, however, that Joel and Clementine s relationship were not working out
well, and so they eventually chose to wipe it off from their memories for their own
happiness. According to utilitarianism, by which an act is ethical as long as it
maximizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant s categorical imperative states two main points: to act out of duty, and to
never use people as a means. Although all people are given the freedom to make
their own choices, removing our memories actually limits our own freedom, and is
the same as living a lie. The film suggests that to remember does not solely imply
the retainment of a memory, but it also includes taking responsibility for one s own
actions ( for my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the
whole truth; to the know the worst, and to provide for it (Eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind, 2004). Kant states that persons, as rationale agents, have a capacity
for freedom and dignity, and deserve respect. However, in the film, through
memory removal, the value of truth gets distorted and leads the characters to
actually reject themselves. What makes this self objectification ironic is that this is
the consequence of the procedure that had been self consented. What makes this
even more contradictory is that they are using their own rights and freedom to
actually limit their freedom which under Kant s rationale is considered
problematic. There is an obvious lack of self respect in the film as everyone is
characterized by self destruction: Joel s depression, Clementine s alcoholism, and
Mary s insecurity, which are all self harming activities. The unethical issue of
memory removal in the film is also derived from the very nature of the technology
itself, as it is portrayed as misguided and dangerous. The people who actually
prescribe the procedure also seem to have no respect for the value of memory, and the
possible consequences that might follow. Thus, Kantianism, in direct contrast to
Utilitarianism, would not consent to the memory removal procedure in the film no
matter what the reason is or the consequences that

35. Elizabethan Entertainment Essay
In Elizabethan England, before the theatre was accepted, there were various forms
of entertainment. Whether one lived in a small town or the great city of London,
dances were very popular, as well as meeting with friends at the local pub for sing
alongs. Chess, checkers and tennis also happened to be popular games at the time,
along with hunting, fencing and bear baiting for the upper class. However, once the
Globe Theatrewas introduced in 1599, new standards for human fun and enjoyment
were created (Mabillard). Because of the Globe Theatre, talented actors, and brilliant
playwrights such as William Shakespeare, the world of entertainment has forever
been changed. Before the world of theatre was popular, acting and plays were
considered taboo. Elizabethan people loved entertainment. Feasts, fairs, and festivals
were all common occurrences throughout the year, a lot of which were dictated by the
Church and religious affiliations. Whenever there was something to celebrate, such as
a betrothal, wedding, or a victory, the people of Elizabethan England were always
eager to oblige. Linda Alchin writes that court entertainment was often a regular,
nightly occurrence combined with feasts, jousts and banquets often accompanied by
music and dancing (Alchin). All classes seemed to delight in the vicious form of
entertainment known as bear baiting, but it was without doubt Queen Elizabeth s
favourite pastime. Dogs would be pitted against bears or bulls and onlookers would

railroad owners can set prices, no matter how high, which is affecting the farmers
livelihoods. This has led many farmers to file for bankruptcy forcing them back East.

38. Damage Brain Connectivity And Function Summary
In the article Child Poverty Can Damage Brain Connectivity and Function by
Christopher Bergland, poverty has been directly linked to the hippocampus and the
amygdala, which have different connections in the brain in impoverished children,
than children raised with a higher income. Research has shown that due to the
different connections by the hippocampus and the amygdala, children, starting at the
preschool level, are more likely to show signs of clinical depression, mental illness,
test more poorly than other children, slower cognitive function, and show antisocial
behaviors. (https://www.psychologytoday.com). The hippocampus is a small piece of
the brain that is part of the limbic system, and is located in the temporal region. The

enough testosterone, this causes a low sex drive and for the amygdala to be smaller
than the average amygdala. Although children do not have any reason to need a sex
drive, they still have hormones coursing through their bodies; the low testosterone in
males, could unknowingly affect their emotions, survival instincts, and memory as
well. Logically, this could also be a reasonable explanation for the depression, low
test scores, and antisocial behaviors in children. Add to the fact that children, who
live in poverty, are already affected by depression, low test scores, and antisocial

Basically she is stating the fact that each person has the right to live in a clean
world, be able to obtain the necessities which are needed to live, and make a living
in which they can lead a healthy lifestyle.
It is through the theories of the tragedy of the commons and environmental rights that
we realize that all of society is invading one another s environmental rights through
the tragedy of the commons. This is done very inconspicuously in some cases such
as that of the Coral Reefs.
The Coral Reefs are limestone formations that are produced by living organisms.
They are found in shallow tropical waters. The predominate organisms that make
them up are stony corals, which are colonial cnidarians that secrete calcium
carbonate (limestone) as an exoskeleton. Calcium carbonate is also deposited by
other types of marine organisms such as tube building annelid worms but any reef
formed by a biological community is called a coral reef. These skeletons accumulate
due to the tides and create a formation that supports the living coral as well as the
highest species diversity of all explored marine habitats. Reefs are found between the

41. The Human Nature Of Corruption Has Struck Again
Blood. War. Protest. The human nature of corruption has struck again. A small
country located just off the southern coast of Asia has been hit drastically by
corruption. Through riot or protest, the people have begun to stand up for themselves,
congregating into huge groups within the streets of the capital, or leaking information
to the public press and onto social media. Malaysiais truly going downward. Najib
[the Prime Minister of Malaysia] will either step down peacefully or there will be
rivers of bloodshed slowing down the streets. an anonymous person reported.
July 02, 2015. This was the day in which a few anonymous Malaysians leaked
information about Najib s corruption to 2 different international presses. When
interviewed about the multi hundred million dollars transferred to his personal
account, Najib announced to the people that it was a political donation. People
were already suspecting that it was from multiple political schemes when his
ministers attempted to defend themselves: Najib s account was closed when the
investigation was taking place! , one minister said, and when people were
investigating his account, another one said, Don t worry, we are certainly going to
catch and send whoever leaked the information to the public press to Jail! Finally,
when Najib claimed that the multi billion dollars was a donation and nobody
believed him, his ministers came up and said Why is the population never satisfied
with the answer we give them!? It s about time

43. Mistero Buffo Analysis
The Middle Ages are rarely considered a time of blossoming comedy, but the comic
mystery cycle, known as Mistero Buffo, brought a bit of frivolous light to the Dark
Ages. As explained in Dario Fo s analysis of these plays, jongleurs played a
precarious position in society: improving morale of the masses by mocking the rich
and ordained, yet keeping out from under the footsteps of those lampooned. This was
no more popular than during the feast of fools, where the working class gathered to
enjoy the jongleurs performances and release frustrations about the class system,
while masking it with a religious moral. Often performed at this event was the
Mistero Buffo (Fo, 1 14), which similarly juxtaposed relevant satire and biblical
passages through stock characters, Aristotelian values of comedy, and an underlying
breakdown of degree and religion. Medieval comedy, much like modern comedy,
relied on certain stereotypical tropes and stock characters, many of which are
consistent with those seen in the various plays in Mistero Buffo. An almost
introspective look on the jongleur, the oxymoronic clever fool in Death and the Fool
is a speaker of truths beautifully interwoven with lies. Death and the Fool also
provides the archetypal female characteristic of lavishing in compliments in the
almost giddy nature of the female Death. Murder of the Innocents also provides
several stock characters, including the obedient soldier and the hysterical mother
figure, although both are

get an associate of science degree. With this he hopes that he will be able to get a
job at UAMS. After he accomplishes that he only hopes that he can use this job to
further help people. With that being far in the future he would just settle with
getting a new vehicle. He would prefer if this new vehicle were a jeep or a camaro

What does the microwave, Penicillin, and the atomic bomb have in common? All
these things and more came out of the invention period of World War Two. There
were many advancements and inventions to come from World War Two, many of
which are used in warfare today. Some are even used in common citizen life all over
the world, whether it be the equipment, weaponry, or even medications. Many of the
technological advancements of World War
Two revolutionized our world as we know
it today. There were many different kinds of equipment used in World War Two.
One of the most important inventions of the war was radar. In 1886, Heinrich Hertz

Penicillin is still used in hospitals, and tetanus shots are given as immunizations to

the MB760.
World War Two was a very inventionative time in our history. In order to keep up
with the war and its demands, people all over the world were creating and developing
different equipments, weapons, and medications. Everything, from cavity magnetrons
becoming microwaves, to the V 2 missile helping land us on the moon, even to
figuring out how to complete skin grafts, none of these things we take for granted
today would have been possible without World War
46. Gun History Essay
Gun History/Development:
What is the history of guns and gun building throughout the world?
Over 43% of Americans own a gun for either sporting or protection ( 21
unbelieveable ). Guns have been improved throughout many years and there are still
many people making many improvements yet today. The history and evolution of
guns improved by the creators who made them and how the improvements better
helped the gun overall are some of the things you will find in this paper. Some
background of gunpowder started with a man named Berthold Schwarz. He was a
German monk who was the first to make gunpowder around the 1300s. He also
invented the first gun which wasn t technically a gun but a huge heavy cannon which
used gunpowder to fire (Kevin 4). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After people got tired of dragging around a huge heavy cannon they then made a
smaller handled cannon but it was still very hard to aim because you had to hold it
with one hand and light it with the other (Supica, Jim). The Arquebuses were the first
handheld gun that didn t need to be lit by match or fuse. Also with the Arquebuse
being able to be held with two hands and not having to lit by hand made it way more
accurate than earlier guns (14). The Arquebuse also greatly helped to create the
musket which had a better more advanced ignition system. The musket first began
to be used during the 1400s. Then muskets helped to design the flintlock (14). Also
by the mid 1400s people began to develope handguns or pistols. By the 1500s
people were able to make pistol effective to about four feet. One bad thing was how
long the pistols took to reload so they then began to design and create the revolver
(18). Then around 1833 the very first breech loader was created. A breech loader is
loaded from the back of the gun instead of the front making it a lot quicker and
easier to reload. Then shortly after in around 1840 they began to mass produce the
first revolver called the pepperbox (Supica,
47. Analysis Of Nella Larsen s Passing, Issues Of Race,...
In Nella Larsen s Passing, issues of race, identity, and privilege are explored. Irene
Redfield, the African American wife of a doctor, is herself passing in the Drayton
Hotel s rooftop garden when she comes across Clare Kendry, a childhood friend.
Clare is passing as white in her daily life with her husband believing that she is a
white woman. Although Irene does not approve of Clare s passing, and tension exists
among the characters, Irene grows to feel sympathetic for Clare and becomes closer
to her. The tension that exists between the two women is suggestive of another form
of passing and sublimated desire. Through the novel, Larsen demonstrates that
passing manifests.
By developing unsteady characters, Larsen communicates how simple it is to escape
one s appreciation of themself. Clare breaks the tragic mulatto stereotype, but never
has the chance to identify to a particular race. While she passes as white, Clare still
seeks comfort from her friend Irene who is from the African American community.
In Irene s mind, Clare has become a mysterious double of herself due to their
contrasting lives they lead. Irene is obsessive and envious of Clare. She destroys
her own self by psychologically ruining herself, thinking that Clare is having an
affair with her husband, Brian. While openly discussing racial passing, the book
also secretly analyzes gender passing. Irene s connection with Clare is based on
desire, jealousy, and obsession. Both Clare and Irene fail to try to
48. How Did The Industrial Revolution Affect Society
The Industrial Revolution has had a major effect on society, there were several major
inventions during the period of time between approximately 1750 1901. Some of the
inventions had a bigger effect on society than others. These included the steam
engine, the telephone, The model T Ford car and the vaccination. These inventions
changed the way society worked because they changed the people communicate,
traveled, recuperated after being ill and the way they did business. The invention that
I will mainly be looking at is The Telephone and the effect it had then and now. Here
is some information on the inventor of the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell was
born on 3 March 1847 and died on 2 August 1922. He was a Scottish born scientist,
inventor, engineer, and innovator who is credited with patenting the first practical
telephone and founding the American Telephone and Telegraph Company in 1885.
He invented the Telephone, Photophone, Hydrofoil, Audiometer, HD 4, Metal

The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure (Baryshnikov). Music and

most civilizations have shared the practice of musicand dance amongst other
complimentary art forms. Humanly relatable, though other cultures were advanced in
these forms of arts or have expounded vividly above others. The mainstream belief of
the evolution of instrument crafting and playing, or folk dance had relied on the
recorded information and archeological findings, which suggest Mesopotamian
cultures to have developed instruments along with the art of dancing. Man made,
rustic and harmonic artistic deliverance boomed between 3500 to 500 B.C.

50. General Election Process Analysis
So, considering that, at this stage several things must take place and be successful.
The Candidates must raise money, secure favorable media coverage, build a
campaign organization and hone their appeal to the voters. Then this must translate to
swaying the Party leaders who also have an interest in the best candidate moving
forward to the General election. The Party s then steps in and scrutinizes and
winnows down the field of candidates to a manageable few before voters get
involved. They must ensure that the best candidate is put forth for nomination and
this candidate must be one that they believe that the voters can coalesce behind.
(M.Cohen, 2008) At this level a candidate could spend less but yet get the nomination
because in the end... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Mark Hanna during the election year of President Benjamin Harrison
stated the following, There are two things that are important in politics; the first is
money, and I can t remember what the second one is; this election brought that
unacknowledged fact to the forefront of economic politics. In 2000, the Bush
campaign solidified the fact that in order to get the message out, the campaign
needed cash because the engagement of the electorate had changed. The majority of
the electorate was receiving their information from television. Nationwide, the Bush
campaign outspent Gore by $9 million, $85.1 million for Bush and $77.1 million for
Gore. Fast forwarding to the Battleground State of Florida, illustrates the fact that
money does decide elections. In Florida, combined Bush campaign and Republican
Party ad spending was nearly even with Gore and Democratic spending in the Key
West Palm Beach, Tampa St. Petersburg and Orlando media markets. But in the
politically conservative markets of (Mobile, AL ) Pensacola and Jacksonville, Bush
forces substantially outspent Gore ($820,000 350,000 in Pensacola, $1.1 million
$130,000 in Jacksonville). And, in all important Miami reaching Miami Dade and
much of Broward counties Bush and the Republicans spent $6 million to Gore and
the Democrats $3.4 million.

Few phrases evoke American patriotism in the same magnitude as the pledge of
allegiance. Written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy, he hopped to inspire americans and
remind people of what makes america great. In the final line liberty and Justice for
all , Bellamy summarized the ideals our country was founded on and what we should
continue to strive for as we grow as we continue into the future. That the government
should preserve the liberty of its people. Liberty is described as the state of being free

Communism is an exact example of the result of this type of government dogma.
Citizens cannot own property, cannot choose their jobs, and have no say in their way
of life. The government owns everything and allots it to its citizens as it sees
fit(citation). While communism promises equality for all, this does not mean
prosperity for all. Almost all citizens suffer with poorer quality of life, poorer
environments, and often terrible working conditions. Without the motivation, or
proper faculties to work, many communist regimes are toppled by financial ruin,
unable to produce the money to maintain itself. By allowing citizens to choose their
own occupation, production in a county increases massively. the highest functioning
communist country (china) produces just over half as much as the lowest
functioning free nation (Estonia), China only producing $6,807.43 per capita
compared to Estonia s $18,783.04. The economic difference between liberty and
security becomes even more clear cut when compared to countries like the United
Kingdom ($41,787.41 GDP per capita) and the United States ($53,041.98 GDP per
Capita). Forced work managing to barely achieve 1/6 of the economic activity of a

Beginning in 1625, the United Kingdom of Britain and the United Kingdom of
Scotland started their colonial dominance of the Americas in Massachusetts Bay. The
two countries later joined to form Great Britain. The colonies spread to other parts of
America, including Georgia, Virginia and Maryland. The French, on the other hand,
colonized North America as the Spanish occupied colonies in the south and, thus, all
three colonial groups were in constant struggle to oust each other and occupy greater
territory in the Americas.
Equality was only a dream in America in from 1700 through 1750. Native Americans
and immigrants affiliated to each of the three colonial groups were subjected to
slavery. Louisiana, for example, was a French colony where about
54. The Qur Exodus 20 And Matthew 5-7
The two verses Exodus 20 and Matthew 5 7 are a spinoff of last week s verses in
Romans and Genesis. Ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God
s desire has been to restore the broken relationship between God and people. God
made a covenant. A covenant is a promise from God that can never be broken. The
covenant stated that God wanted a relationship with the people, but in order to have
this loving relationship, they had to turn away from their sin(Barker, 2002).
The portion of Scripture known as the Ten Commandments(Exodus 20:3 17, NIV):
was entered into by God and the people of Israel. The purpose of the Ten
Commandments is to point out sin. The Ten Commandments are some of the most
influential words in the entire Bible, and they ve influenced thousands of years of
thinking. Even in day to day lives, the Ten Commandments affect with how people
think about right and wrong.
In (Matthews 5:7) Jesus gets down to business and explains why he is here. It s
not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. (Mathews 5:7) is also called The Sermon on
the Mount and covers several different topics. If the Sermon on the Mount was
summarized in a single sentence, it would be something like: How to live a life
that is dedicated to and pleasing to God, free from hypocrisy, full of love and grace,
full of wisdom and discernment. God goes further in this verse to show what would
happen if we follow the Ten Commandments and what will happen if we don t.

56. Relationships Between CAR And Tanzania
Currently the relationships between the CAR and Tanzania are nonpartisan.
Tanzania has yet to cause any terror attacks or more of economic problems, but this
aloof between CAR seems to breach the smaller problems of the CAR, though
Tanzania has a stable government for past 1 year, Zanzibar [ the party ] was not able
to eliminate povertyor decrease it in any way nor was it able to establish any kind of
relationship between CAR.
Tanzania and CAR has a lot of potential but this is not being utilized because of:
1.Improper use of resources Funds have been misused on unwanted projects, and
these unwanted project remain unfinished continuously.
2.Corruption and selfishness The officials tend to exploit the poor and the rich refuse
the taxes. There is lack of implementation of laws.
3.Poor infrastructure The roads are not well maintained, lack of electricity in rural
areas due to which production level has fell.
These all problems can be tackled easily but only if the government aids the people.

57. Gilded Age
The Gilded Age (1869 1896), cynically named so by Mark Twain, was a time of
industrial growth and underwhelming political movement. After Andrew Johnson,
Ulysses S. Grant, the Union s top general, was elected President of the United States
during the 1868 election. Grant himself really wasn t cut out to be a politician,
however, with the support of the Republicans and the campaign slogan let us have
peace that resonated with the still war scarred nation he won. Other one liners such
as vote as you shot and waving the bloody shirt, or reminding the public the gruesome
war they just finished, were commonly used to rally citizens behind the Republican
candidate. Corruption also ran rampant during these years. Crooked politicians and

Another affect was the ignition of debates about how currency should be made and
what to use to back that currency, silver, gold, or both. In the end, legislation was put
in place that worsened the crisis but ended up boosting the national credit. The 1876
election definitely stirred the somewhat stagnant political pot. Rutherford B. Hayes
and Samuel J. Tilden had an impossibly close number of electoral votes. As a result,
a special team of republicans and democrats came together to hash out a deal that
created the Compromise of 1877. The Compromise meant that republicans would
remove union troops from the southern states, ending forced reconstruction, and in
return Hayes was elected president. With reconstruction over, racism grew even more
rampant in America. Jim Crow laws were put into place and unfair sharecropping and
tenant farming contracts ran rampant. Another major racial problem was that of the
white settlers in the West and the Chinese immigrants that had come over during
construction projects such as the building of the Continental Railroad. White
laborers were outraged that the Chinese works were taking their jobs and reacted by
working as hard as possible to make life hard for them. This came to a head when
Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882 that ended nearly all Chinese
immigration until
