The Importance Of Violence In Sunday Bloody Sunday
Evil is extremely apparent in the world today, but for how long will people stand idly by as it
continues to worsen? The song Sunday Bloody Sunday, written by U2, suggests that the only valid
response to the violence that occurred in Northern Ireland in the 1970s is condemnation. The
writers not only condemn the brutality of that time, but, in a broader sense, condemn violence as a
whole, showing that there are no positive outcomes to violence, only more violence. Therefore,
people must rise up, united against the violence that exists in this world today.
An important aspect that is important to understand, regarding the theme of Sunday Bloody
Sunday, is the historical context around which it was written. Although U2 wrote the song
specifically about an event that took place on January 30, 1972, or Bloody Sunday, the violence
was a part of a more complicated and long running issue between Ireland and England. This
violence also took place as a result of a civil rights movement in Ireland that occurred from 1968
to 1969. Many of these activists looked up to people like Martin Luther King, Jr. for inspiration
about peaceful protest. Nonetheless, in 1969, after multiple occasions of violence at protests, the
British troops assumed riot duty (Pringle and Larson). This event became one of the inciting
incidents that led to the violence that happened on Bloody Sunday, only a few years later.
The issues with protesting, despite the presence of British troops, did not

Preventing Surgical Site Infection ( Ssi ) Is Paramount...
Introduction
Preventing surgical site infection (SSI) is paramount for healthcare professionals. If there is an
increasing rate of surgical infections in hospitals, the medical cost to take care of the patient would
increase beyond the average rate of care for that patient. Patients who have clean or contaminated
surgery are susceptible of contracting infection if the wound is not protected from harmful
organisms that may be present on the skin during or after the surgical procedure. As such, the
quality of patient care for controlling after surgery infection is the concern of surgeons,
practitioners, healthcare planners, and the public. Preoperative and postoperative interventions are
important considerations for healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Relevance of the Nursing Research Problem
Webster and Osborne (2015) conducted a research Preoperative Bathing or Showering with Skin
Antiseptics to Prevent Surgical Site Infection, in 2015 was to determine if patients bath or
showered prior to surgery with an antiseptic the risk of postsurgical site infection would reduce.
The nursing problems are; the various researches supporting the use of antiseptic prior to surgery
is still inconclusive in relation to the best antiseptic that will reduce infection and; there is need for
clarity if reducing skin microflora with the use of antiseptic will result in lower incidence of SSI.
The authors commented that complications after surgery increases hospitals cost and lengthens the
patient s stay in the institution. Spiraling cost for healthcare is not advantageous for the hospitals
or the patients. Patients who stay in hospitals longer than expected because of infections are likely
to prefer law suits against the institution. Compounding the problem are cases that results in serious
morbidity or mortality resulting from infected surgical sites. In addition, the rate of readmission
into hospitals and further surgery contributes to the concerns for reducing postoperative infections
(Webster Osborne). The research is relevant and poses a nursing challenge that includes other
healthcare professionals such as administrators, surgeons, practitioners, patients, and the public.

Consequences Of Teen Drinking
Consequences of Underaged Drinking
By: Ashley Thomas
Underaged drinking is becoming more of a problem every year. There are many negative
consequences that coincide with this risky activity; other than the obvious fact that it is illegal.
These consequences include: violent behavior, risky sexual activity, engaging in dangerous
activities putting oneself in harm s way, drunk driving, and long term effects such as brain damage
and depression. Whether the person engages in drinking regularly and simply believes nothing
bad will happen to them, or has been talked into drinking for the first time, both are put at equal
risk for any of these events to occur. Arguably some of the most devastating side effects of
drinking at a young age are changes in the way the brain develops. The human brain does not stop
developing until one is well into their twenties. Because of this, Young people that consume/abuse
alcohol, are put at a much higher risk of early onset depression and alcohol dependence into
adulthood. The more concerning aspect of this is teens that start having problems with depression,
due to drinking, often lie about their habits, thus not getting help until it is too late. More times
than not, young people do not confide in parents for fear of judgement and/or ridicule. Situations
like these often cause young adults to feel alone and isolate themselves from those who wish to
help, quite possibly resulting in suicide. The best way to avoid this is for parents to be

Death By Sophocles And The Holy Bible
Death is a very popular theme in world literature; authors seem to feed off the anguish it causes
readers. However, there are many types of deaths from many different eras. For example, in its
broadest sense death has two forms homicide and suicide. Homicide for instance, dates all the way
back to the two earliest works of literature known to man; The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Holy
Bible. Suicideis also ancient, but has a much darker feel to it. Despite deathbeing universal
throughout time, there are some striking similarities in today s world. Firstly, the story of Antigone,
written by Sophocles in 441 B.C., is the epitome of literary death. One of the main homicides in the
story is the main character s brother, Polynices. In summary, King Oedipushad four children
Antigone, Ismene, Polynices, and Eteocles. Moreover, upon the king s death it was decided that
his sons would cycle leadership each year. However, Eteocles refused to step down, and after a
fierce duel, both brothers were dead. Furthermore, this makes Polynices death an honorable death
in battle. Polynices died fighting for something he believed in and while essentially fighting a war.
In modern day, this death is comparable to that of a solider. The United States has lost many brave
men and women over time in the line of duty. Furthermore, all of these individuals died fighting for
what they believed in: the safety and security of the United States. Towards the end of the story, one
death causes a domino

Essay On Fingerprint Finger
Creating Fake Fingers for Secure Biometric Fingerprint Authentication As the unrelenting demand
for smartphones continues to increase, many technology companies are looking for ways of
making such devices easier, faster, and more user friendly. Many smartphones are equipped with
fingerprint readers, allowing the user to access their phones securely and quickly without having
to type in their pin or passcode. This prevents users from having to remember dozens of random
passphrases that, in theory, a hacker could potentially guess and be granted access into. However,
this poses a serious question How secure is fingerprintauthenticationand why should consumers
trust that this technology will keep their information safe? Similarly,... Show more content on

Capacitive readers work by measuring the differences in capacitance between the ridges and
valleys to map out the fingerprint. Because of this, unlike the optical reader, there is no light
component necessary in order to read the fingerprint. Thus, the capacitive sensors can be much
smaller, and are commonly seen in smartphones, laptops, and tablets. In figure 1 below, the
difference between the fingerprints captured by the optical (left) and capacitive (right) readers
can be seen. Due to the smaller size of the capacitive reader, it captures a smaller area of the
fingerprint. Anil Jain and Joshua Engelsma of Michigan State University are creating life like
fake fingers, commonly referred to as spoofs. These pigmented, conductive silicon spoofs share
properties similar to human skin; their mechanical, optical, and electrical properties allow it to
act basically as a finger. With these spoofs, creators of fingerprint readers can use them for two
purposes: 1. remove the discrepancy between optical and capacitive readers and 2. enable
readers to detect for only real fingers to be granted access. The current problem with many of
these readers is that if it was recorded on one type of reader, and the user tried to authenticate with
a different type, it would fail. These spoofs will allow developers to test their systems, without
having to use their own fingers over and over again, while also ensuring consistency. In

Establish the Business in Totalitarian or Democratic System
Introduction All countries in the world have various political environment and regimes. Political
systems differ in terms of the governance, power and the rule of law. A political regime can be
defined as structures, activities and processes by which given countries in the world govern
themselves. Political systems can be based on either collectivism or individualism. It is essential for
business to look at a country s political environment as a vital criterion in venturing or expanding
the business or company to that country. This is because political systems differ and each has its
own form of governance that impacts a business in terms of its growth. International companies

According to research, commerce prospers or is successful when business sector includes
independently owned companies that exist to make and increase profits (Axtmann 89). A country
such as Britain uses a democratic form of governance or political system, and because of this, the
country is one out of the many countries that diverse companies want to venture their business it.
This makes the country a stable business environment of international companies. Democratic
political system business laws ensures all businesses especially in the private sectors are
independent in that they carry out their own business operations with the intent of making profits
and revenues; thus grows and improves the economy. In a totalitarianism political system, there is a
difference in that this form of government has vague business laws. There is no guarantee that
international enterprises would prosper in countries practicing this government. For example in
North Korea, the business laws are nebulous in that multinational companies are not protected. The
international firms can be taken by the government, and this occurs when there are international
issues or wrong movements by the companies. This shows that it is risky to do business with
totalitarian nations such as North Korea; thus it is not a conducive environment for international
companies or businesses. The other reason that justifies that democracy

Against Mandatory Drug Testing
Drug testing applicants, as well as recipients, on welfare has been an ongoing debate for
multiple years. Many have argued that if an individual has to be tested to get a paycheck, others
should be tested and screened to receive a federal check of financial aid. Those individuals who
are recipients of the welfare program should be drug tested nationwide to eliminate the problematic
spending of taxpayer dollars. Since 1971, this type of testing has been used for military purposes,
in the work force, and has recently been incorporated into state welfare laws. With this addition,
controversial topics, such as how these testsare paid for and whether or not they violate the fourth
amendment as an unlawful search, have arose. Although, they have... Show more content on

Agrarian In Days Of Heaven
Days of Heaven (1978) directed by, Terrence Malick, is a revisionist film that portrays a
dystopian agrarian way of life. Populist Agrarian films emerged during the era of the Great
Depression. The urbanization of society is depicted negatively whereas rural areas are associated
with paradise; however, the remote town of Panhandle, Texasis consumed with darkness by the
protagonist s selfish pursuit of prosperity. Days of Heavenis a critically acclaimed film, primarily
due to its unsympathetic characters thereby making it challenging for the audience to relate.
Agrarian and Western film genres share a quality of the everyday man. In The Grapes of Wrath
(1940), directed by John Ford, Tom Joad encompasses the archetypal everyday man, whereas Bill
is characterized as a selfish and violent coward. For instance, Bill flees the scene after beating his

Reflection On Quality And Safety
QUALITY AND SAFETY: REFLECTION.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL DEFINITION.
The WGU nursing program helped me in developing my professional definition of quality and
safety by enlightening my understanding of root cause analysis, and system failures. The IHI
course was an eye opener in my understanding of quality improvement, and the processes required
to enhance safety and quality improvement. The courses that really assisted me in my definition
include, the Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership, the Leadership and Professional
Image, and Professional Roles and Values; and the Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing
Research.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: ARTIFACT SUPPORT.
My papers from the leadership learning experience task, and organizational systems and quality
leadership task 2 are some of the artifacts that I have included in this portfolio to support my
definition of quality and safety.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: ARTIFACTS SUPPORTING DEFINITION.
My paper from leadership learning experience task, supports my definition of safety and quality by
demonstrating how I proposed project that would enhance the safety and quality of my clients who
were at risk of developing pressure ulcers. On the other hand, my paper from the organizational
systems and quality leadership task 2 support my definition of safety and quality by demonstrating
my capacity to coordinate root cause analysis, and designing projects that would enhance safety and
quality by correctly identified system failures.
QUALITY AND SAFETY: IMPORTANCE OF IHI CERTIFICATE.
My Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) certificate is an artifact that supports my capacity
in safety and quality improvement in healthcare. This course enlightened on my role as nurses in
enhancing safety and quality in my workplace. I have already proposed the need in including
staff nurses in the quality improvement committee to my employer. I believe I will be among the
staff nurses who will be sitting in the committee, and I am going to take the role of an informal
leader and a change agent in that committee. As an informal leader and a change agent, I will
devote my energy in refocusing the thinking of my colleagues, so that they are able to visualize

The Importance Of Camping With Small Children
Many people think taking a toddler camping is just asking for stress, headaches and complications.
Actually, your toddler can learn a lot at a young age from a trip into nature. Camping with small
children can be an entertaining experience while giving them the basic skills of life.
Surroundings
For toddlers, life is one huge learning experience. The simplest, most basic functions of the natural
world are fascinating and eye opening to them. Camping provides the opportunity to teach your
toddlers about nature and observing their surroundings. While sitting around the campsite, imagine
your toddler spotting a leaf falling from a tree and the fascination in their eyes as it slowly floats to
the ground. This is an opportunity to teach them about the different trees, leaves, plants and shrubs
that surround them.
Basic Survival Skills
Children are never too young to begin learning basic survival skills. Here s one that can be
taught in the form of a game. Bring some marbles in a bag that the toddler can carry. Other items
can be used as well, but stick with non edible ones for this lesson, or one of mother nature s little
creatures may just eat your lesson materials. Start at the edge of your campsite and choose a
path into the woods that is easy enough for them to walk with you. Have your toddler place
marbles on the ground every couple of feet to leave a trail to follow back to your site. Dropping and
re discovering the marbles will not only be a fun game, but will give

Incarceration Crime Rate
Since the 1990s and the crime drop, there has been many questions to the reason why. Steven Levitt
and Stephen Dubner thoroughly looked through the different theories but came to a conclusion that
the main reason crime had fallen is abortion (117 145). One of the reasons they discuss is whether
or not the increase of incarceration affects the fluctuations in crimerates. Levitt and Dubner suggest
that the crime system became relaxed due avoid racism; however, the crime rates then began to
rise (122). Between 1980 and 2000, there was a fifteenfold increase in the number of people sent to

1 30). Ouimet says [Spelman] estimates the relationship between incarceration and crime and
comes up with an elasticity measure of 0.4, which means that an increase in incarceration of one
percent will be followed by a drop in crime of 0.4% (par. 12). In other words, imprisonment only
accounted for one fourth of the crime drop in the 1990s (Ouimet par. 12). Not all scholars
however, believe that incarceration was responsible for the drop because of its inconsistency
between states (Ouimet par. 13). In fact, they believe that states adjusted the incarceration rates
due to the crime rates, the dependent and independent variables were flipped (Ouimet par. 13).
Ouimet then goes into policing strategies, (another commonly known factor in affecting crime
rates) and how those statistics match up with those of Canada. Though Ouimet uses evidence to
prove that incarceration affects crime, he then disproves it by saying that it is to variant and is
not consistent among states (pars. 12 13). This article is really good to look at another side of the
crime drop. It brings in a good perspective and points; however, it ties the U.S. to Canada in which
causes the author to broaden the argument instead of tying it down to specific

the show. The setting was beautiful and the structures almost lifelike, excepting the absence of a
front screen door. It seems that almost all plays and television shows I have viewed neglect this
detail. The stage lighting played a key role in the show by setting the mood of the performance
during soulful, pensive songs. In contrast, the lighting proved to be a detriment by overbearing the
performance of the artists, in that one s attention was drawn to the glare of extreme quantities of
makeup rather than the actions of the characters. This was most notable during the final portions of
the production.
The entertainers gave their characters genuine life through their gestures, attitude and charm. Even

Abraham Lincoln And John Wilkes Booth
You all feel the fire now raging in the nation s heart. It s a fire lighted and fanned by Northern

doctrine is the fire which, if allowed to rage, will consume the house and crush us all beneath its

understand what persuaded John Wilkes Booth to kill President Abraham Lincoln, it was clear that
Booth wanted to commit the act because he was an intense Southerner looking for a Confederate

Pro Choice View On Abortion
Abortion is one of the most disputable issues discussed all over the world today. Several decades
ago abortion was considered only a social issue, but now situation has changed and it has also a
political and ethical issue attached to it as well. Arguments against pro choice are typically biased;
overlook the fact that the legalization of it benefits the health of women, and deny women the right
to do what they want with their bodies. Thus, the main aim of this paper is to discuss the pro
choice view on abortionwhile analyzing the opinions of other authors in this paper.

In addition, no one should be required by law to risk own health, and yet at the complete
prohibition of abortion, many pregnant women are exposed to the dangers of childbearing and
childbirth, as well as unsafe criminal abortions.
One common stance on abortion stems from the thoughts of the fetuses potential personhood. In
order to determine this, first the status of the fetus should be examined. If the fetus has a right to
life, there is an assumption that it is in fact living. A philosopher, Mary Anne Warren, believes
that because the fetus has not reached personhood it is not guaranteed the right to life. Warren
would argue that a person must have the capacity for rational thought to be considered a person.
Clearly a fetus is not a rational thinker. Unfortunately, some believe this is not a clear enough
definition, but in my opinion, to be a rational thinker one must have the ability to comprehend a
situation and speak upon their own behalf. Obviously, a fetus does not have this ability therefore
I do not consider a fetus a potential person. Also, Warren states even if the potential person does
have some prima facie right to life such a right cannot outweigh a woman s right to abortion.
Again, I agree with this claim because as someone who is pro choice I believe the women has the
higher position to make the choice of abortion. In contrast to

Arsenic with the symbol As is a metalloid that means it has properties from both metals and

black form. In the environment it forms organic and inorganic chemical compounds as a result of
natural and anthropogenic activities.
A worldwide phenomenon (magnitude of the problem)( A worldwide impact)
Poisoning from arsenic is not a threat that belongs to the past and it should not be taken
lighthearted. The long term effects like cancer require a few decades to manifest and many times the
measures and regulations do not eliminate the catastrophic outcomes. More than 137 million people
in 70 countries are affected by the arsenic content in the drinking water capacities. The outbreak in
Bangladesh is the robust example which is needed to alert ourselves. Since the 1970s millions of
Bangladeshis have suffered from the acute and the chronic effects of the consumption of arsenic
contaminated water. The crisis is still far from resolution. The lack of coordination of the different
responsible agencies as well as the disadvantages of being one of the poorest nations, contribute to
this phenomenon. Other regions in the world suffering from contaminated water with arsenic are
Argentina, Nepal and regions of the United States of America.

Eight Typical Treatments For Binge Eating Disorder Essay
Since no single treatment alone has been proven effective, most treatment approaches involve a
combination of treatments to address medical issues, psychological issues, and nutrition. Some
treatments target specific groups such as women, men, children, and college students. This article
gives an overview of 8 typical treatments for binge eating disorder.
1. Individual, Group, and/or Family Psychotherapy: Three Types Cognitive behavioral therapy
(CBT) focuses on addressing a person s current thoughts and behaviors about himself. Either in
group or individual settings, therapists help people learn to identify distorted or negative thinking

Comprehensive social, emotional, and psychological screening helps target related disorders and
provide important direction in tailoring a treatment plan. Clients may be asked questions about
eating patterns, thoughts, and behaviors.
3. Nutritional Counseling Dieting focuses too much on the scale and the food. Pressures from
counting calories, food diaries, reading labels, too low calorie plans, and avoiding certain foods
using willpower can aggravate symptoms and quickly trigger binge eating. Behavioral weight loss
programs directly target obesity, which typically results from binge eating disorder. These
medically supervised programs use components of cognitive behavioral therapy. They make sure
your nutritional needs are met while also helping you learn to recognize and change faulty beliefs
about yourself and food and to cope better with triggers. Short in duration, they are fairly
inexpensive. Nutrition evaluations with a dietician help you to create an individualized, safe food
plan. It helps dispel some of the myths in the mixed messages we get from the media and society
about dieting, body image, and fast food. This can be useful when paired with self help treatments
and a behavioral weight loss program is unavailable.
4. Medications Some types of medications may help reduce symptoms of binge eating disorder, but
are not designed

dance because a lot of dancers participated in this dance and how they were very well organized
and they were moving together and their movement wasn t distracted at all. The costumes of the
dancers were incredibly perfect as the dancers looked like angels. Moreover, the light was
amazing. Also, another dance that I really liked called Paris this dance surprised me. I had mix
emotions at the same time while I was watching this dance. Now, what surprised that it was
performed by Dr. Yoav Kaddar and Maureen Mansfield and Dr Kaddar is the director of the Dance
Now performance and he s also director of the Dance program. The background music reminded
me when I was in Paris and a lot of good memories there. The dancers were awesome as you I saw
two old dancers dance like as they were very young dancers and they were connected to each

Why Leaders Must Excel at Giving and Receiving Feedback
MBA 510 Managament Skills Portfolio
Ben Elbert

August 27, 2015
Whether a leader defines success as career progression, sphere of influence, or the continual
improvement of their management skills, there is one singular fact that all leaders must grasp in
order to be effective and impactful: they have to become great providers and receivers of feedback.
To grow in one?s ability to give and receive feedback, one ought to begin with learning to receive
feedback well by recognizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 109) of the feedback they have received. Becoming an effective leader
requires hard work, passion, and the mastery of human relation skills that make the providing
and receiving of feedback easier and more meaningful. The road to receiving feedback well is a
continuous highway whose only mile markers are the progress beyond being beholden to the
three triggers identified in Stone?s and Heen?s article, Difficult Conversations 2.0. Truth triggers
are an emotional response where the recipient chooses to ?focus on what s wrong with the
feedback? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72). This decision to reject feedback simply because part of
it is incorrect?or perceived to be incorrect?prohibits a person from evaluating the fit of the feedback
and acting on the applicable, useful parts. Overcoming an evocation of a truth trigger requires the
receiver to ?dig under the label? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72) and seek more concrete and
definitive examples to better understand the feedback. Per Stone and Heen (2014), a relationship
trigger comes about when the recipient focuses on who is delivering the feedback rather than what
is being said. The relationship trigger tends to arise when the receiver believes the giver either does
not have the proper level of insight to give the feedback or they distrust the motives and authority
of the deliverer (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 73).

The World Is Too Much With Us By William Wordsworth
The Romantic period is a time when artists, poets, and writers turned their views from the
eighteenth century focus on reason and thinking. They now emphasize imagination and beauty in
nature. Reason and thinking are no longer the way to see how the world works, how to gain
experience, imagination is. Literature, writing, and art during this time find a new respect and
love for nature, the common man and childhood, senses, individual, and imagination. People at
the time were also intrigued by darker and exotic things. They felt as if it was finally acceptable
to rebel, think outside the box , and focus on human rights. Although Romantics were
concentrating on these good ideas, all of their work was not always the most pleasant. Often
times it would involve death or darkness. The Romantic period is complex one filled with
contradicting and empowering ideas and works that are remembered very well. The Raft of the

the speaker to a pagan to explain that the speaker would much rather worship other gods in order
to make himself less upset over the situation. He feels that pagans have a much stronger

Greek gods. According to the speaker, those gods have power over nature but still appreciates

Cross Cultural Interview
Cross Cultural Interview
Culture can be defined as a set of practices, traditions, values, or beliefs a group of people share,
whether it be due to ethnicity, gender, age, or even religion. Having different cultures in a work
place can effectively make a business stronger, especially in the United States where it is known
a the melting pot. I know that in the future I could possibly work at a pharmacy that has
employees from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, learning now how to understand and

During the interview he stated, in order to be happy in business, one has to learn to respect the
abilities, efforts, quirks and opinions of others. I believe that there are various ways in which
individuals can show respect while in business. According to Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock (2000),
gratitude is of essence in any business. While in business dealings, one is always expected to ensure
that they thank their business colleagues whenever they have done business by assisting or
supporting them in whatever manner. This can be achieved through sending emails, texts, calls to
individuals that you always do business with.
Smith also said that sincerity is one of the major aspects that one can show respect when in
business. While I do believe telling the truth is the best policy as well, sometimes being brutally
honest in this world can bring consequences. Many individuals usually do not like when they are
told the truth especially if it is negative (Vlosky, Fontenot, Blalock, 2000). With this being said I
was quite puzzled by Smith s response. So I asked him how being sincere showed respect. He
replied that to show respect in business one should be sincere while thanking them for their efforts,

Water Quality And Water Pollution
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background information
Water is an essential resource for life which greatly influences our public and environmental health
as well as providing the pedestal for most of our economic activities. Unsustainable use of fresh
water resources, population increase, and the trend in industrial revolution have led to
environmental degradation especially by the release of partially treated or untreated wastewater into
aquatic systems. Thus, the global freshwater resource is at risk and majority of the problems that
humanity faces in the twenty first century are related to water quantity and/or water quality issues
(UNESCO, 2009).
The importance of water for sustenance of life cannot be overemphasized and its depletion of either
through contamination, or careless use results in serious consequences (Owa, 2013). About 70 % of
the earth is covered with water, but hardly 2 % of it is quality for drinking (Mann et al., 2014). The
relative importance of water quality versus water quantity, sanitation and hygiene education
interventions for protecting the population s health has been the subject of considerable debate
(Esrey et al, 1985, 1991). Nevertheless, there is broad agreement that good water quality, free of
pathogens and heavy metals is important to human health.
Water is regarded polluted if some components or condition is existing to such a magnitude that the
water cannot be used for a particular purpose. Water pollutionaffects flora and organisms

Transforming Data and Information Overload Into A Defensible, Long Term Competitive
Advantage Introduction The proliferation of data, process and system integration technologies,
combined with the rapid advances made in analytics, Big Data, customer management and supply
chain applications are power catalysts of disruptive change in enterprise IT. Given the fact that
many legacy, 3rd party and previously disparate, disconnected systems are for the first time being
integrated together, the amount of data available for analysis and decision making has never been
greater. Add to this the torrent of data being generated daily through an enterprise s sales cycles,
social networks subscribed to, and customer interactions, and the amount of data available can
becoming quickly overwhelming. All of these dynamics taken together form the area of analytics
and enterprise software called Big Data. As tempting it is for the analytically minded to dive into
these terabytes and explore for insights and previously unknown associations in the data, to get the
most value from the investments in BigData, analytics, and enterprise applications, governance
based frameworks need to be defined that align these systems to specific strategic objectives
(McKendrick, 2012). The advent of Hadoop, H Base, MapReduce and other data analysis and
aggregation platforms and applications only become relevant in the context of strategic goals and
their accomplishment (Rogers, 2011). That is why more

Normality In Frankenstein
The characterisation of monsters is a significant image of the gothic genre. Whether their actions
are a physical manifestation, as in the case of the monsters in Frankenstein, The Island of Doctor
Moreau and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, or a more supernatural being, as demonstrated in The Castle of
Otranto or The Little Stranger, their purpose serves to provide anxiety tension and violence to the
narrative. Their unrelenting pursuit of the protagonist inspires the narrative to its absolute
conclusion, where the monster is defeated, often in an explicit and gory manner, and for the most
part with the protagonist experiencing a sense of jubilant deliverance and moral satisfaction. David
Punter and Glennis Byron define this purpose as; Through difference,... Show more content on

A Separate Peace Act 1 Scene 1 Analysis
The scene I have chosen is a bit more than midway through the book, page 180 exactly. I chose
this excerpt because I believe it is a true display of thematic ideas of manipulation and politics,
with a small touch on the theme of religion. This passage is all about Rasputin s political power
through ties to the royal family and his skill in manipulation. In this passage, Rasputin is attempting
to instate a friend, Alexander Protopopov, the Duma s vice president, as minister of interior. Of
course he need to get the tsar Nicholas II to approve this, so Rasputin started with asking the
empress
Backtracking a bit, because preceding this excerpt, there were large amounts of political
leapfrogging in 1916, lots of events tied to the theme of politics. Ministers of different departments
were fired, re assigned, or hired for no reason, which left the minister of interior position open for
Rasputin to secure for Protopopov. Now Protopopov was a respectable nobleman, charming
statesman, and veteran, which made it all the easier for Rasputin ... Show more content on

themes of religion, politics AND manipulation. Rasputin manipulates Alexandra into believing
what he does, and into telling Nicholas II that by listening to her (thus Rasputin) choice in political
figures, the tsar was approved by God, an idea that Nicholas II could draw the conclusion that as
long as he listens to his wife(a.k.a. Gregory Rasputin) he will always be right by the Church. It s

Pros And Cons Of The Ontario Sex-Education Curriculum
Recently there has been a lot of debate about the new sexual education curriculum being taught to
children from a younger age and how it will affect them. Some people say that children are too
young to be learning this information and then how they use it will be in a negative manner. What
frightens most parents is that they can raise their children as they wish, but have very little control
over what other people do with their children (Wolfe, D. A. 2015, February 28).The Ontario sex

Ecocriticism In The Secret Garden By Frances Hodgson Burnett
Introduction
All writers and their critics are stuck with language, and although we cast nature and culture as
opposites, in fact they constantly mingle, like water and soil in a flowing stream (Howarth 69).by
reading this quotation we indicate that nature and culture are essential in human life. In other
words, humanity and environment are one unit, each of them supplements the other. Ecocriticism
could be defined as a literary discipline which seeks to examine the intersections of culture,
literature, and ecology. It also seeks to infer the relationships among nature, the natural processes
themselves, and human conception of the natural world . This paper will regard Frances Hodgson

According to the principle of equality the state lines between human and animal are arbitrary and
irrelevant. Moreover, the principle of equality utters that everyone is entitled to equal moral

agreed with the liberationist on the subjectivity and the borders between human and non human
creatures. Hence, the assessment of the way that humans and non human cohabit in the intra textual
system is what the paper seeks to introduce.
The paper will present the role of animals within The Secret Garden. Animals characters are very
essential in the novel and this underscore the interaction between human and animal, which is a

Relationship between Incentive Pay and Employee Work Performance
An incentive pay program can reward employees who continue to produce superior work or
encourage employees who already produce good work to best. Sometimes, use an incentive
system when employees are lack of enthusiasm of getting down to work and improving things. If
everyone in the same job classification gets the same pay, there is no real incentive to do an
outstanding job (French, 1990). Various incentive plans used to motivate all employees such as
production staff, sales staff, administrative staff and managerial and professional staff on an
individual basis. To be improved employee work performance, the incentive pay programs need to
be fairly matched with the employees expectation. Properly designed and maintained incentive pay
program has the potential to increase employees productivity and work performance.
There are three main types of incentive plans an organization can be practiced. These are
individual incentive plans, group incentive plans and company wide incentive plans. Moreover,
suggestion plans and positive reinforcement programs can be considered as incentive plans
(French, 1990). Flexible reward systems linked to an individual employee performance called

The Genre Of Romantic Comedy
The genre of romantic comedy has been successful throughout history. Men and women alike
watch these films for several reasons, even though they are predictable. Whether it s for the
comedy portrayed, or the love story itself, romantic comedies provide aspects of a story that
almost anyone can appreciate. Over time, people began to argue that contemporary romantic
comedies have depreciated, but this does not hold true. When comparing Judd Apatow s
Knocked Up (2007), which is about a stoner low life, played by Seth Rogan, who knocks up co
star, Katherine Heigl, who plays Allison, to George Cukor s Adam s Rib (1949), which tells the
story of two attorneys bickering over their shared court case, there is a radical difference between
the two films in their sheer content to portray a love story while sharing the common romantic
comedyplot, but one tells a superior love story.
The first notable difference between these films is the kind of humor utilized to articulate the
story. According to David Denby, Knocked Up s humor is vulgar and unnecessary, but the humor
in this film is not unnecessary. The Knocked Up no doubt contains extremely inappropriate and
offensive humor compared to Adam s Rib, but comedy has evolved in response to a changing
society. As written by George Gerbner in Common Culture, (certain things were not allowed on
screen). Comedy in Adam s Rib consisted of slapstick humor associated with the good ol times of
the late 40 s and 50 s. The audience witnesses

provides further data (Schmalleger, 2013). The (NSDUH) found that there are an estimated 22.6
million Americans who are current users aged twelve and older (Schmalleger, 2013). Of those
22.6 million Americans, 17.5 million of them were estimated to be using marijuana, and data
shows the rates for those most likely to consume drugs to be between the ages of sixteen to
twenty five in 2010 (Schmalleger, 2013). Another statistic, this time from the class text found
that nine percent of the U.S population age 12 or older use illicit drugs every year, half of them
at least once a month. (Thio et al., 2013). The class text also corroborates this data, citing that of
young adults those aged eighteen to twenty five have the highest rates, for teenagers the rates
highest for use are twelve to seventeen (Thio et al., 2013). One study found that employment
status is highly correlated with rates of illicit drug use as well. One figure showed that an
estimated seventeen percent and a half percent of those unemployed were current illicit drug users
(Schmalleger, 2013). Worrying figures due to the gravity of the situation making itself clear, while
there is tapering off after twenty years of age when it comes to illicit drug use. The concept of drug

The Fundamental Principles Of Life In Ray Bradbury s...
Change: The Fundamental Principle of Life
Change is one of the fundamental principles of life. In life, it is recurring that mentalities and
philosophies inadvertently change just as often as age and maturity. As life goes on, change is
what allows life to continue and progress. Change is eternal. The changes that we experience come
because of certain events that take place in life, or oftentimes just because of maturity. Whatever
changes that transpire, it is important to embrace them, as life goes on. Ray Bradbury s novel
Dandelion Wine embodies these same aspects of change through its central characters, Doug and
Tom Spaulding. The way that they exemplify this idea of continual change is through their lives
during the summer of 1928. During this period, Doug and Tom watch change influence their lives
as well as their community with the changes they see around them, the people, and the changes
with themselves.
Doug and Tom experience change in their lives through the events that coincide around them. In
retrospect, both boys recognize that just in the summer, changes arise that they would admittedly
never have foreseen. Beginning in chapter thirteen, the Happiness Machine reaches its end.
Although this creation had not been around for long, the boys were most certainly disappointed to
see the Happiness Machine reach its end. In the story, while Douglas is looking into the family rug,
he cannot help notice that certain parts look like the Happiness Machine burning up. No

The Era Of 1915 After The Civil War
Freedom and the way it is seen is always changing, even in today s time. When new presidents
are elected for example, this gives significant power to whoever is elected. Their views on things
like color or restrictions on people can impact everyone. Even the word itself has many
meanings to it that vary. Many times, laws get passed by the government that we think is
helping the nation expand, this is not always the case. From the Post Civil War, up to the twenty
first century there has been plenty of examples that have expanded but have also limited
freedom. In the beginning of 1865 after the Civil War was the Reconstruction Era, this was the
time were America was described as free and a new nation. Although the abolishment of slavery
raised the question of what freedom truly meant. Later, in the Progressive Era of 1915 freedom
was identified politically and economically rather than identified by race. Having looked at
freedom from both the Reconstruction Era and the Progressive Era, the Reconstruction Era
expanded freedom and the Progressive Era restricted freedom. In the beginning of the
Reconstruction Era African Americans saw freedom as escaping the biases that came from slavery.
Also, escaping denial of access to an education, punishments by the lash, separation of families, etc.
as described in chapter 15 of Give Me Liberty! An American History Novel. Now, African
Americans escaped the control of white Americans. They created churches of their own, also African

Essay On Gender Inequality
Amnesty International
5 Penn Plaza, 16th Floor
New York, NY 1001
Dear Advocacy Representative, As many of us know throughout history there have been many
inequalities that the world has been faced with; whether it is race, gender, or ethnic background. I
am writing you, the representatives for Equal Rights to discuss an urgent concern of American
women in the workplace. Although gender inequality is decreasing, it still exists and makes a lot of
people suffer its consequences every day. Gender inequality is unfair rights between male and
female based on different gender roles which leads to unequal treatment. Gender inequality has been
widely known in human history but not until the beginning of the 20th century has the change of ...

This historic rise came about in 2005 and, since then, the pay gap has remained roughly
unchanged. Women as a whole experience the gender pay gap but there is also a racial pay gap. A
woman makes 77 cents for every dollar a Caucasian man makes.
Last year when looking at median hourly pay, black workers earned $18.49 an hour. White
workers earned an average of $25.22 an hour. Caucasian women make about 75 cents to every
dollar a caucasian man makes. Asian women make an average of 85 cents to every dollar a
caucasian man makes. For black, Latina, and Native women, that number is significantly lower.
On average, Latina and black women who are low wage earners and work full time live below the
poverty line. White men who are low wage earners and work full time live above the poverty line.
According to the map from National Women s Law Center women lose $418,800 over a 40 year
career. That number is more than double from latina and black women. It will take years for the
gap to be resolved. In the U.S the gender wage gap is lower than it is in any country although there
has not being improvements since the 1990s. However, the contribution of men to household and
childcare has grown significantly in recent years, it is still far below women s contributions.
In today s society, women make up almost half of the workforce; in four out of ten families,
women are the equal, if not main, breadwinners as

Image Of God In The Chrysalids
Is there really one certain way God meant for people to be? Or are all people part of His image in
different ways? Well in the novel The Chrysalids the image of God, as reflected in Nicholson s
Repentances, seems to agree with the first option. The image of God within this novel demands
very strict guidelines. Due to these guidelines this image seems to discriminate against others who
are not perfect in their eyes. If a person does not meet the requirements dictated by the image of
God as stated within Nicholson s Repentances, they face grave consequences. In order to not serve
these consequences, they must keep their flaws/blemishes secretive and this leads to conflicts.
While other characters cause problems for others about the image of God. In The Chrysalidsby John
Wyndhamthe characters David Strorm, Sophie Wender, and Joseph Strorm all have conflicts
created for/by them surrounding the topic of the image of God as reflected in Nicholson s
repentances.
To begin, David has different conflicts created for him throughout this text about the image of God
as reflected in Nicholson s Repentances. His problem is the fact that he is telepathic. Within the
repentances it does not say anything about being telepathic, thus deeming him a deviant within
waknukian beliefs. However since nobody knows about this flaw/blemish he must constantly keep
this a secret. An example is during David s and Uncle Axel s conversation when Uncle Axel says, I
want you to make another promise that

Ted Green And Youtube Analysis
A smoky bar,a large concert hall or an open air festival are just a few of the places where one
imagines jazz to be performed. Bluesy, soulful, or very traditional, jazz comes in many guises
due to the players drawing from many influences. As music is a form of expression, it also seems
reasonable to hypothesise that life experiences will also colour their musical development. Imagine
now a jazz artist has just divorced is wife, how would this effect his compositions at that moment in
time? It would be reasonable to assume that this artist would compose a piece of musicthat would
personify his feelings. Some of these musicians went on to break the boundaries of their time and
influenced their peers and others who came after them. Whatever... Show more content on

This information was gathered from their biographies. Ted Green started playing guitarat a the age
of eleven, Rieff (2013) states that Ted Greene s first guitar was a horrible guitar with the highest
action in the world, especially down at the nut. Disillusioned with this guitar it was Ted Greene s
passion for music that gave him the determination to continue and attended jazz guitar lessons.
Similarly, George Benson also became interested in music at a young age. At eight years old he
was performing, though not as a guitarist, but as a singer. He did not start concentrating on the
guitar until he was in his mid to late teens and was performing in a rock band at the age of
seventeen. It was at the age of nineteen that George became interested in jazz. From this it can be
seen that there is a similarity, both guitarists had a passion for music at an early stage of their life.
It seems reasonable to suggest that the major difference between them is Ted started learning jazz
guitar at a younger age and was more interested in expanding his knowledge, whereas George
Benson seemed more interested in performing. In the next section this paper will investigate their

Ophelia s Suicide Letter
Dear Hamlet,
I thought I would be able to bottle up all of these emotions but it seems I cannot bear it any
longer; I must let it all out. I must tell you, Hamlet, that living in this mad world is driving me to
the brink of insanity. I am just so fed up with going about every single day persuading myself
that I had ought to ignore it all and simply, sweetly smile. But why should I? Why should I sit
around and let the likes of men like you order me around any longer? Yes Lord this, yes Lord
that! Who do all of you men think you are? Being ordered around by my father, brother and you,
my former lover, completely frustrates me every time. Am I your maid? Your slave? Your toy? You

What sense does this make? Such a thought makes me tremble in utter disbelief. How could you
have committed such a crime and not feel any sense of shame or guilt? Had you not any thought
or consideration for my well being or stability of my emotional state when you committed such a
sin? You didn t, did you since you did not think twice to confirm who it was behind the arras. I
am curious, Hamlet, for what reason did you do such a terrible thing? What has he ever done to
deserve such a foul fate? Has he wronged you in any way? All he has done is loyally serve your
family yet this is what he receives in return! It overwhelms me with great sadness.
Moreover, not only have I lost my father, but it seems I have lost you as well, both mentally and
physically. Following our separation, I still loved you Hamlet. But you, who pushed me away
and branded me as damaged goods, have broken my fragile heart, have killed my father, someone
who truly cared for me despite his demands, and have left me in utter despair. Oh it feels as if my
world is suddenly falling apart! I cannot go to you, Hamlet, for your hands are stained with my
father s blood and as of late, I can hardly speak to you as your mind seems to have plummeted to the
depths of insanity! Yet at the same time, despite everything that has happened, I find myself unable

Has Birth Control Helped Our Women Or Been An Affliction

In 1965, The Supreme Court (in Griswold v. Connecticut) gave married couples the right to use
birth control, ruling that it was protected in the Constitution as a right to privacy. However,
millions of unmarried women in 26 states were still denied birth control. In 1968, FDA
approved intrauterine devices (IUDs), bringing early versions like the Lippes Loop and Copper
7 to market1970 Feminists challenged the safety of oral contraceptives (the Pill) at well
publicized Congressional hearings. As a result, the formulation of the Pill was changed, and the
package insert for prescription drugs came into being. In 1972, The Supreme Court (in Baird v.
Eisenstadt) legalized birth control for all citizens of this country, irrespective of marital status. In
1974, The FDA suspended sale of the Dalkon Shield IUD due to infections and seven documented
deaths among users. Although other IUD designs were not implicated, most IUDs were slowly
taken off the US market due to the escalating costs of lawsuits in subsequent years. In the1980s,

  • 2. The Importance Of Violence In Sunday Bloody Sunday Evil is extremely apparent in the world today, but for how long will people stand idly by as it continues to worsen? The song Sunday Bloody Sunday, written by U2, suggests that the only valid response to the violence that occurred in Northern Ireland in the 1970s is condemnation. The writers not only condemn the brutality of that time, but, in a broader sense, condemn violence as a whole, showing that there are no positive outcomes to violence, only more violence. Therefore, people must rise up, united against the violence that exists in this world today. An important aspect that is important to understand, regarding the theme of Sunday Bloody Sunday, is the historical context around which it was written. Although U2 wrote the song specifically about an event that took place on January 30, 1972, or Bloody Sunday, the violence was a part of a more complicated and long running issue between Ireland and England. This violence also took place as a result of a civil rights movement in Ireland that occurred from 1968 to 1969. Many of these activists looked up to people like Martin Luther King, Jr. for inspiration about peaceful protest. Nonetheless, in 1969, after multiple occasions of violence at protests, the British troops assumed riot duty (Pringle and Larson). This event became one of the inciting incidents that led to the violence that happened on Bloody Sunday, only a few years later. The issues with protesting, despite the presence of British troops, did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Preventing Surgical Site Infection ( Ssi ) Is Paramount... Introduction Preventing surgical site infection (SSI) is paramount for healthcare professionals. If there is an increasing rate of surgical infections in hospitals, the medical cost to take care of the patient would increase beyond the average rate of care for that patient. Patients who have clean or contaminated surgery are susceptible of contracting infection if the wound is not protected from harmful organisms that may be present on the skin during or after the surgical procedure. As such, the quality of patient care for controlling after surgery infection is the concern of surgeons, practitioners, healthcare planners, and the public. Preoperative and postoperative interventions are important considerations for healthcare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Relevance of the Nursing Research Problem Webster and Osborne (2015) conducted a research Preoperative Bathing or Showering with Skin Antiseptics to Prevent Surgical Site Infection, in 2015 was to determine if patients bath or showered prior to surgery with an antiseptic the risk of postsurgical site infection would reduce. The nursing problems are; the various researches supporting the use of antiseptic prior to surgery is still inconclusive in relation to the best antiseptic that will reduce infection and; there is need for clarity if reducing skin microflora with the use of antiseptic will result in lower incidence of SSI. The authors commented that complications after surgery increases hospitals cost and lengthens the patient s stay in the institution. Spiraling cost for healthcare is not advantageous for the hospitals or the patients. Patients who stay in hospitals longer than expected because of infections are likely to prefer law suits against the institution. Compounding the problem are cases that results in serious morbidity or mortality resulting from infected surgical sites. In addition, the rate of readmission into hospitals and further surgery contributes to the concerns for reducing postoperative infections (Webster Osborne). The research is relevant and poses a nursing challenge that includes other healthcare professionals such as administrators, surgeons, practitioners, patients, and the public. The Study s ... • 4. Consequences Of Teen Drinking Consequences of Underaged Drinking By: Ashley Thomas Underaged drinking is becoming more of a problem every year. There are many negative consequences that coincide with this risky activity; other than the obvious fact that it is illegal. These consequences include: violent behavior, risky sexual activity, engaging in dangerous activities putting oneself in harm s way, drunk driving, and long term effects such as brain damage and depression. Whether the person engages in drinking regularly and simply believes nothing bad will happen to them, or has been talked into drinking for the first time, both are put at equal risk for any of these events to occur. Arguably some of the most devastating side effects of drinking at a young age are changes in the way the brain develops. The human brain does not stop developing until one is well into their twenties. Because of this, Young people that consume/abuse alcohol, are put at a much higher risk of early onset depression and alcohol dependence into adulthood. The more concerning aspect of this is teens that start having problems with depression, due to drinking, often lie about their habits, thus not getting help until it is too late. More times than not, young people do not confide in parents for fear of judgement and/or ridicule. Situations like these often cause young adults to feel alone and isolate themselves from those who wish to help, quite possibly resulting in suicide. The best way to avoid this is for parents to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Death By Sophocles And The Holy Bible Death is a very popular theme in world literature; authors seem to feed off the anguish it causes readers. However, there are many types of deaths from many different eras. For example, in its broadest sense death has two forms homicide and suicide. Homicide for instance, dates all the way back to the two earliest works of literature known to man; The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Holy Bible. Suicideis also ancient, but has a much darker feel to it. Despite deathbeing universal throughout time, there are some striking similarities in today s world. Firstly, the story of Antigone, written by Sophocles in 441 B.C., is the epitome of literary death. One of the main homicides in the story is the main character s brother, Polynices. In summary, King Oedipushad four children Antigone, Ismene, Polynices, and Eteocles. Moreover, upon the king s death it was decided that his sons would cycle leadership each year. However, Eteocles refused to step down, and after a fierce duel, both brothers were dead. Furthermore, this makes Polynices death an honorable death in battle. Polynices died fighting for something he believed in and while essentially fighting a war. In modern day, this death is comparable to that of a solider. The United States has lost many brave men and women over time in the line of duty. Furthermore, all of these individuals died fighting for what they believed in: the safety and security of the United States. Towards the end of the story, one death causes a domino ... • 6. Essay On Fingerprint Finger Creating Fake Fingers for Secure Biometric Fingerprint Authentication As the unrelenting demand for smartphones continues to increase, many technology companies are looking for ways of making such devices easier, faster, and more user friendly. Many smartphones are equipped with fingerprint readers, allowing the user to access their phones securely and quickly without having to type in their pin or passcode. This prevents users from having to remember dozens of random passphrases that, in theory, a hacker could potentially guess and be granted access into. However, this poses a serious question How secure is fingerprintauthenticationand why should consumers trust that this technology will keep their information safe? Similarly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capacitive readers work by measuring the differences in capacitance between the ridges and valleys to map out the fingerprint. Because of this, unlike the optical reader, there is no light component necessary in order to read the fingerprint. Thus, the capacitive sensors can be much smaller, and are commonly seen in smartphones, laptops, and tablets. In figure 1 below, the difference between the fingerprints captured by the optical (left) and capacitive (right) readers can be seen. Due to the smaller size of the capacitive reader, it captures a smaller area of the fingerprint. Anil Jain and Joshua Engelsma of Michigan State University are creating life like fake fingers, commonly referred to as spoofs. These pigmented, conductive silicon spoofs share properties similar to human skin; their mechanical, optical, and electrical properties allow it to act basically as a finger. With these spoofs, creators of fingerprint readers can use them for two purposes: 1. remove the discrepancy between optical and capacitive readers and 2. enable readers to detect for only real fingers to be granted access. The current problem with many of these readers is that if it was recorded on one type of reader, and the user tried to authenticate with a different type, it would fail. These spoofs will allow developers to test their systems, without having to use their own fingers over and over again, while also ensuring consistency. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Establish the Business in Totalitarian or Democratic System Introduction All countries in the world have various political environment and regimes. Political systems differ in terms of the governance, power and the rule of law. A political regime can be defined as structures, activities and processes by which given countries in the world govern themselves. Political systems can be based on either collectivism or individualism. It is essential for business to look at a country s political environment as a vital criterion in venturing or expanding the business or company to that country. This is because political systems differ and each has its own form of governance that impacts a business in terms of its growth. International companies carry out international manufacture and activity in that they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to research, commerce prospers or is successful when business sector includes independently owned companies that exist to make and increase profits (Axtmann 89). A country such as Britain uses a democratic form of governance or political system, and because of this, the country is one out of the many countries that diverse companies want to venture their business it. This makes the country a stable business environment of international companies. Democratic political system business laws ensures all businesses especially in the private sectors are independent in that they carry out their own business operations with the intent of making profits and revenues; thus grows and improves the economy. In a totalitarianism political system, there is a difference in that this form of government has vague business laws. There is no guarantee that international enterprises would prosper in countries practicing this government. For example in North Korea, the business laws are nebulous in that multinational companies are not protected. The international firms can be taken by the government, and this occurs when there are international issues or wrong movements by the companies. This shows that it is risky to do business with totalitarian nations such as North Korea; thus it is not a conducive environment for international companies or businesses. • 8. Against Mandatory Drug Testing Drug testing applicants, as well as recipients, on welfare has been an ongoing debate for multiple years. Many have argued that if an individual has to be tested to get a paycheck, others should be tested and screened to receive a federal check of financial aid. Those individuals who are recipients of the welfare program should be drug tested nationwide to eliminate the problematic spending of taxpayer dollars. Since 1971, this type of testing has been used for military purposes, in the work force, and has recently been incorporated into state welfare laws. • 9. Agrarian In Days Of Heaven Days of Heaven (1978) directed by, Terrence Malick, is a revisionist film that portrays a dystopian agrarian way of life. Populist Agrarian films emerged during the era of the Great Depression. The urbanization of society is depicted negatively whereas rural areas are associated with paradise; however, the remote town of Panhandle, Texasis consumed with darkness by the protagonist s selfish pursuit of prosperity. Days of Heavenis a critically acclaimed film, primarily due to its unsympathetic characters thereby making it challenging for the audience to relate. Agrarian and Western film genres share a quality of the everyday man. Actually, your toddler can learn a lot at a young age from a trip into nature. Camping with small children can be an entertaining experience while giving them the basic skills of life. Surroundings For toddlers, life is one huge learning experience. The simplest, most basic functions of the natural world are fascinating and eye opening to them. Camping provides the opportunity to teach your toddlers about nature and observing their surroundings. While sitting around the campsite, imagine your toddler spotting a leaf falling from a tree and the fascination in their eyes as it slowly floats to the ground. This is an opportunity to teach them about the different trees, leaves, plants and shrubs that surround them. Basic Survival Skills Children are never too young to begin learning basic survival skills. Here s one that can be taught in the form of a game. Bring some marbles in a bag that the toddler can carry. Other items can be used as well, but stick with non edible ones for this lesson, or one of mother nature s little creatures may just eat your lesson materials. Start at the edge of your campsite and choose a path into the woods that is easy enough for them to walk with you. Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner thoroughly looked through the different theories but came to a conclusion that the main reason crime had fallen is abortion (117 145). One of the reasons they discuss is whether or not the increase of incarceration affects the fluctuations in crimerates. Levitt and Dubner suggest that the crime system became relaxed due avoid racism; however, the crime rates then began to rise (122). In other words, imprisonment only accounted for one fourth of the crime drop in the 1990s (Ouimet par. 12). Not all scholars however, believe that incarceration was responsible for the drop because of its inconsistency between states (Ouimet par. 13). In fact, they believe that states adjusted the incarceration rates due to the crime rates, the dependent and independent variables were flipped (Ouimet par. 13). Ouimet then goes into policing strategies, (another commonly known factor in affecting crime rates) and how those statistics match up with those of Canada. Though Ouimet uses evidence to prove that incarceration affects crime, he then disproves it by saying that it is to variant and is not consistent among states (pars. 12 13). This article is really good to look at another side of the crime drop. It brings in a good perspective and points; however, it ties the U.S. to Canada in which causes the author to broaden the argument instead of tying it down to specific ... Showboat This paper is a critique of a production of Show Boat, a musical classic with compositions by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, which was performed and produced by NETworks Presentations LLC at Emens Auditorium on the 14th of February 2001. Clayton Phillips, the director of the production, attempted to test the waters of racial discriminationby exploring controversial themes such as prejudice and interracial relationships. Show Boat takes an enlightened approach to ethnic controversy by using both music and drama to express the feelings and hopes of the characters to the audience. The scenes and props complimented the attire of the performers, blending together create a magnificent display. The scenery was realistic enough to afford the viewer an escape into depths of the show. The setting was beautiful and the structures almost lifelike, excepting the absence of a front screen door. It seems that almost all plays and television shows I have viewed neglect this detail. The stage lighting played a key role in the show by setting the mood of the performance during soulful, pensive songs. In contrast, the lighting proved to be a detriment by overbearing the performance of the artists, in that one s attention was drawn to the glare of extreme quantities of makeup rather than the actions of the characters. This was most notable during the final portions of the production. The entertainers gave their characters genuine life through their gestures, attitude and charm. Even the way the voices led one to believe that the characters were actually presenting their own thoughts and ideas, not those of fictional characters. During the play, the voices of the performers were quite audible, excepting certain musical presentations when the lyrics of the songs were at points nearly indiscernible. Even with consideration given to this technical glitch, the sound quality was quite agreeable and the songs enjoyable. The voices of the performers were strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Several decades ago abortion was considered only a social issue, but now situation has changed and it has also a political and ethical issue attached to it as well. In addition, no one should be required by law to risk own health, and yet at the complete prohibition of abortion, many pregnant women are exposed to the dangers of childbearing and childbirth, as well as unsafe criminal abortions. One common stance on abortion stems from the thoughts of the fetuses potential personhood. In order to determine this, first the status of the fetus should be examined. If the fetus has a right to life, there is an assumption that it is in fact living. A philosopher, Mary Anne Warren, believes that because the fetus has not reached personhood it is not guaranteed the right to life. Warren would argue that a person must have the capacity for rational thought to be considered a person. Clearly a fetus is not a rational thinker. Unfortunately, some believe this is not a clear enough definition, but in my opinion, to be a rational thinker one must have the ability to comprehend a situation and speak upon their own behalf. Obviously, a fetus does not have this ability therefore I do not consider a fetus a potential person. Also, Warren states even if the potential person does have some prima facie right to life such a right cannot outweigh a woman s right to abortion. Again, I agree with this claim because as someone who is pro choice I believe the women has the higher position to make the choice of abortion. In contrast to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The road to receiving feedback well is a continuous highway whose only mile markers are the progress beyond being beholden to the three triggers identified in Stone?s and Heen?s article, Difficult Conversations 2.0. Truth triggers are an emotional response where the recipient chooses to ?focus on what s wrong with the feedback? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72). This decision to reject feedback simply because part of it is incorrect?or perceived to be incorrect?prohibits a person from evaluating the fit of the feedback and acting on the applicable, useful parts. Per Stone and Heen (2014), a relationship trigger comes about when the recipient focuses on who is delivering the feedback rather than what is being said. The relationship trigger tends to arise when the receiver believes the giver either does not have the proper level of insight to give the feedback or they distrust the motives and authority of the deliverer (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 73). ... Literature, writing, and art during this time find a new respect and love for nature, the common man and childhood, senses, individual, and imagination. People at the time were also intrigued by darker and exotic things. They felt as if it was finally acceptable to rebel, think outside the box , and focus on human rights. • 28. Water Quality And Water Pollution CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background information Water is an essential resource for life which greatly influences our public and environmental health as well as providing the pedestal for most of our economic activities. Unsustainable use of fresh water resources, population increase, and the trend in industrial revolution have led to environmental degradation especially by the release of partially treated or untreated wastewater into aquatic systems. Thus, the global freshwater resource is at risk and majority of the problems that humanity faces in the twenty first century are related to water quantity and/or water quality issues (UNESCO, 2009). The importance of water for sustenance of life cannot be overemphasized and its depletion of either through contamination, or careless use results in serious consequences (Owa, 2013). About 70 % of the earth is covered with water, but hardly 2 % of it is quality for drinking (Mann et al., 2014). The relative importance of water quality versus water quantity, sanitation and hygiene education interventions for protecting the population s health has been the subject of considerable debate (Esrey et al, 1985, 1991). Nevertheless, there is broad agreement that good water quality, free of pathogens and heavy metals is important to human health. Water is regarded polluted if some components or condition is existing to such a magnitude that the water cannot be used for a particular purpose. Water pollutionaffects flora and organisms ... Transforming Data and Information Overload Into A Defensible, Long Term Competitive Advantage Introduction The proliferation of data, process and system integration technologies, combined with the rapid advances made in analytics, Big Data, customer management and supply chain applications are power catalysts of disruptive change in enterprise IT. Given the fact that many legacy, 3rd party and previously disparate, disconnected systems are for the first time being integrated together, the amount of data available for analysis and decision making has never been greater. Add to this the torrent of data being generated daily through an enterprise s sales cycles, social networks subscribed to, and customer interactions, and the amount of data available can becoming quickly overwhelming. All of these dynamics taken together form the area of analytics and enterprise software called Big Data. As tempting it is for the analytically minded to dive into these terabytes and explore for insights and previously unknown associations in the data, to get the most value from the investments in BigData, analytics, and enterprise applications, governance based frameworks need to be defined that align these systems to specific strategic objectives (McKendrick, 2012). • 38. The Genre Of Romantic Comedy The genre of romantic comedy has been successful throughout history. Men and women alike watch these films for several reasons, even though they are predictable. Whether it s for the comedy portrayed, or the love story itself, romantic comedies provide aspects of a story that almost anyone can appreciate. Over time, people began to argue that contemporary romantic comedies have depreciated, but this does not hold true. When comparing Judd Apatow s Knocked Up (2007), which is about a stoner low life, played by Seth Rogan, who knocks up co star, Katherine Heigl, who plays Allison, to George Cukor s Adam s Rib (1949), which tells the story of two attorneys bickering over their shared court case, there is a radical difference between the two films in their sheer content to portray a love story while sharing the common romantic comedyplot, but one tells a superior love story. The first notable difference between these films is the kind of humor utilized to articulate the story. According to David Denby, Knocked Up s humor is vulgar and unnecessary, but the humor in this film is not unnecessary. The Knocked Up no doubt contains extremely inappropriate and offensive humor compared to Adam s Rib, but comedy has evolved in response to a changing society. As written by George Gerbner in Common Culture, (certain things were not allowed on screen). • 42. The Fundamental Principles Of Life In Ray Bradbury s... Change: The Fundamental Principle of Life Change is one of the fundamental principles of life. In life, it is recurring that mentalities and philosophies inadvertently change just as often as age and maturity. As life goes on, change is what allows life to continue and progress. Change is eternal. The changes that we experience come because of certain events that take place in life, or oftentimes just because of maturity. Whatever changes that transpire, it is important to embrace them, as life goes on. Ray Bradbury s novel Dandelion Wine embodies these same aspects of change through its central characters, Doug and Tom Spaulding. The way that they exemplify this idea of continual change is through their lives during the summer of 1928. During this period, Doug and Tom watch change influence their lives as well as their community with the changes they see around them, the people, and the changes with themselves. Doug and Tom experience change in their lives through the events that coincide around them. In retrospect, both boys recognize that just in the summer, changes arise that they would admittedly never have foreseen. Beginning in chapter thirteen, the Happiness Machine reaches its end. Although this creation had not been around for long, the boys were most certainly disappointed to see the Happiness Machine reach its end. When new presidents are elected for example, this gives significant power to whoever is elected. Their views on things like color or restrictions on people can impact everyone. Even the word itself has many meanings to it that vary. Many times, laws get passed by the government that we think is helping the nation expand, this is not always the case. From the Post Civil War, up to the twenty first century there has been plenty of examples that have expanded but have also limited freedom. In the beginning of 1865 after the Civil War was the Reconstruction Era, this was the time were America was described as free and a new nation. Although the abolishment of slavery raised the question of what freedom truly meant. Later, in the Progressive Era of 1915 freedom was identified politically and economically rather than identified by race. Having looked at freedom from both the Reconstruction Era and the Progressive Era, the Reconstruction Era expanded freedom and the Progressive Era restricted freedom. In the beginning of the Reconstruction Era African Americans saw freedom as escaping the biases that came from slavery. Due to these guidelines this image seems to discriminate against others who are not perfect in their eyes. If a person does not meet the requirements dictated by the image of God as stated within Nicholson s Repentances, they face grave consequences.
