Introduction . A Mass Media Effect, As Defined By W.J.
Introduction
A mass media effect, as defined by W.J. Potter (2011), is a change in an outcome within a person or
social entity that is due to mass media influence following exposure to a mass media message or series
of messages (p. 903). Simply put, this is when a medium in this essay, a motion picture changes an
individual s or group of individuals cognitions, attitudes, beliefs, affects, physiology or behaviors.
Since its conception, film has been used as a way to entertain, educate, or influence the masses.

Princess Mononoke takes care to delve into the reasons of Lady Eboshi, a perceived antagonist, in
order to humanize her and her decisions. By portraying both opposing sides from each of their own
viewpoint, we are able to understand that neither side is inherently good or inherently bad. This essay
will discuss Potter s outcomes to analyze the social effects of Princess Mononoke on its audience.

Princess Mononoke as a Mass Medium

Publishing made a deal that Disney would internationally distribute Tokuma s Studio Ghibli animated

Dictatorship In The Movie Antz
My children love movies about animals and insects, so when I decided to watch the animated movie
Antz last night, it had guarantee to be an entertaining night for kids and I. However, after a couple of
minutes the interest of my little ones started to fade. I started to be taken into the movie as it covered
the fable of an Orwellian ant colony. The old repeated slogans, In unity is force, Nobody is

Essay on The Charismatic Gifts
THE CHARISMATIC GIFTS: THEIR USE, FUNCTION,AND CONTINUITY
Joseph Oliveri
Bible 364 Acts
August 16, 2013
Introduction Their is much debate surrounding the use of the charismatic gifts in Acts. Many questions
arise about how to use such gifts, and whether or not they can be used today in the first place. The
debate regarding the continuation and the cessation of the spiritual gifts, the meaning of which we will
clarify in a moment, is a relatively modern one. Although we read about the outpouring of the Holy
Spirit at Pentecost in Acts, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the early church of the New Testament,
history is more or less silent on this issue. It was not until the early ... Show more content on

First, he grounds the use of all the gifts in the Lordship of Jesus Christ ( Therefore... no one speaking
in the Spirit... 1 Cor. 1:3). Here, it is seen that the gift and gifts of the Spirit serve as the external
manifestation of the triumph and enthronement of Christ. 4 Furthermore, in 1 Cor. 1:7 11, the point is
made that the exercise of any gift of the Spirit is the ministry of the word given to God s people, and
that the ministry of God s revelatory word is central to the use of all other gifts... they give expression
to that word in various ways. 5 This is why, in an eclectic grouping of the various giftings (found in 1
Cor. 12:8 11, 1 Cor. 12:28, Rom. 12:6 8, Eph. 4:11, and 1 Pet. 4:11), the work of the ministry of the
word of God is paramount, that is, the revelatory word through the apostle and prophet is
foundational, while all else is informed by and flows from this. 6 Second, Paul grounds the use of the
gifts in love. The reflection of the manifestations of these gifts were meant to emphasize God s grace,
that is, the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost as a sign of the new covenant for believers. This,
of course, was a fulfillment of the Prophecy of Joel ( Joel 2:28 32; cf. Acts 2:17 18). Peter understood
the prophesying to which Joel referred to be fulfilled by that speaking of tongues produced by the
Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Thus, Peter regarded tongues as the functional equivalent of prophecy (this is

Essay about Twentieth Century Evolves to the Twentieth First
Anderson (2007) claims, The technological innovations, improved surgical techniques, and
revolutions in drug therapies presented another problem: The field of medical ethic, or bioethics as it
is now called, had to undergo radical change to keep pace with improvements in diagnosis and patient
care (Anderson, 2007, p. 262). Technology unquestionably created changes in every area of our lives,
particularly throughout the last two hundred years, and in no industry is that more clear than the field
of medicine. Throughout this time, machines began to assume a bigger role as innovators improved

With HIV being a major global epidemic, we are still seeing high numbers and new cases arise every
year. In the twentieth century the syndrome was the most famous epidemic and still is considered to be
so today with many people dying from the disease. In the healthcare community the top priority for
HIV/ AIDS for both periods have been prevention and access to treatment. Researchers continue to
push forward toward a cure for this epidemic as they did in the twentieth century through clinical trials
and exploration. We also see similarities when it comes to the cost of health care treatment. We are
still seeing today how health care is a distress to many people who are not able to afford it just as it
was prohibitive to persons without medical insurance in the past (Anderson, 2007).
The medical advancements and improvements in twentieth century medicine involved inventions of a
vast number of technologies and medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment (Anderson, 2007. p
268). These medical advancements certainly influenced health and medicine today. Technological
improvements made it possible for physicians to provide medical care and more accurately diagnosis
illnesses and trauma with less invasive methods. The accelerated growth of computer technology that
began in the 1970s has paved the way for many dramatic changes in medicine (Bartkowki

Sexual Harassment In Australia
Introduction
Sexual harassment still remains a serious problem in workplaces around Australia and can affect
anyone no matter their age or gender. There are many rules and laws in place around Australia to
prevent this issue but there are still many cases every year, it is the one of the most common types of
complaints received by the Australian Human Rights Commission under the Sex Discrimination Act.
It affects 1 in 4 women, and 1 in 6 men in the workplace; this makes the number of people that have
been sexually harassed very large. Sexual harassment is against the law and some types can be a
criminal offence. A single incident is enough to establish sexual harassment; it does not have to be
repeated.

The Sexual Function Of Laboratory Animals
Abstract
Castration in males may be the result of disease or injury. It is expected that after a castration
procedure, the males will lose sexual function. In this experiment there were seventeen male rats
randomly distributed into three groups; sham group (N = 5), castrated and oil group (N = 4) and
castrated and testosterone group (N = 7). The control group received a sham operation and bi daily
injections of oil to show that it was not a surgical procedure or bi daily injections that caused the
lowered production of testosterone. As expected sexual function was able to be restored in the
castrated males by giving bi daily supplementation of testosterone hormone at the same rate that
testicles would normally produce this hormone. The castrated males that did not receive the
testosterone injections but had received the bi daily injections of oil, did not have successful
restoration of their sexual function. Studying sexual function in laboratory animals is important to be
able to develop ways to supplement hormones in humans and to restore sexual function in those who
have suffered an injury or disease that resulted in a castration procedure. Introduction
Sexual function is dependent on the testosterone levels produced by the interstitial cells of the testicle.
The role of testosterone deficiency in sexual function can be directly linked to diseases of reproductive
organs, injury, certain medications and aging factors. Males and females face this problem more

Integration Of Math And Science
Integration is a topic should be talked about because it is a topic that has multiple view points some
negative and some positives. No matter the viewpoints it is important to consider how integration
impacts the students. At the end of the day what students retain is what matters and retaining
information can happen in a variety of different ways. Integration provides a way to connect multiple
subjects and allows students to make connections. Integration can be difficult for teachers to teach
because the integration does not fit well, but the outcome of integration is beneficial. With the heavy
weight of assessments and standardized, tests teachers need to make sure that whatever they teach
needs to connect to standards and unites. Science has become a subject that has been put on the back
burner because tests like Maps and Paws testing do not assess science. There are many factors that
affect what and how teachers teach. Integration of math and science is one way to teach that allows
teachers cover more than one major subject. Integration allows teachers to teach science and math in
the same environment that allows students to flourish. The classroom is filled with a variety of
different objectives and lessons and as teachers we need to make sure we are using our time the best
ability. The big question of this research is whether integrating math and science is beneficial for
students in the classroom. Each lesson and activity needs a purpose in the classroom and

as they are big and size and mass.when stars four times as big as the sun blows up it leaves a little core
behind and that is the neutron star the mass of a neutron star is 20 kilometers or 12.4 miles they are so
dense that if u get a teaspoon it would weigh a billion tons now that is a lot usually a car is like 4 tons
now imagine billion tons now if the neutron star survives its supernova the it gets way more
interesting. the fourth star is the average star An average star, or intermediate mass star, is a star with
an initial mass of 0.5 to 8 times that of Earth s sun. It spends most of its time on the main sequence as
an orange, yellow, or blue white dwarf star. now there are many average stars when u look up in the

The United States The Home Appliance Industry
In the United States the home appliance industry is a mature market with high penetration, therefore,
replacement product is significantly important to the industry. The United States has three major
manufacturers for domestic production: Whirlpool, General Electric, and Electrolux. The appliance
industry is changing rapidly and becoming more competitive with the influence of Asian competitors,
specifically, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, who are major appliance importers.
Subsequently, in January 2016, a Chinese manufacturer, Haier, bid for the purchase of General
Electric Appliances, finalizing the contract on June 6, 2016 (Thompson, 2016).
Whirlpool Corporation is the largest global manufacturer of home appliances (Innovation at the Pace
of Life, 2016). Although, Whirlpool is globally the largest manufacturer, they do not dominate all
markets as they do in North America. In North America, Whirlpool s strength lies in a strong and vast
brand portfolio, consisting of seven brands (Fettig, 2016). In 2006, the United States Department of
Justice approved the acquisition of Maytag Corporation by Whirlpool (Henriques, 2006). The
acquisition served a two fold purpose, seating Whirlpool in the number one market share position in
North America and adding strong brands such as Maytag, Jenn Air, and Amana to the portfolio. A
series of acquisitions is accelerating growth for Whirlpool and ensuring global market leadership.

The Western Springs Fire Department Is The Low Amount Of...
Introduction
The fiscal problem that the Western Springs Fire Department has is the low amount of paid on call
firefighters. If the department looks at these different ways to receive money, they can provide
incentives to draw in future firefighters. Solutions would be to pay a higher hourly rate as well as
implement education tuition funds for the firefighters. As a result, the Department would be able to
offer more incentives to their new firefighters which would lead to increased amount firefighters that
will want to apply at this fire department. This will structure the department to stand out from the
other paid on call departments.
Body
Identify the problem
The fiscal problem is that there are not enough paid on call firefighters to respond to calls. Recruiting
more firefighters to the Western Springs Fire Department would be a benefit to the department as well
as the village. The department would have enough firefighters to control the all calls by mitigating the
problem and save life/ property. This would also eliminate the need of calling and rely on other
departments to respond to the villages own 911 call. If the fire department has extra beneficial items to
offer to the new firefighters it could attract more firefighters to join and this would stop the fiscal
problem.
Offer solutions to the problem
This Fire Department can explore multiple ways to attract future recruits into Western Springs.
Perhaps, this organization can look at other fire departments around

The Senate On January19-27
On the floor of the Senate on January19 27, 1830, Senator Daniel Webster of Massachusetts argued
that the states should be considered as one nation (Webster, 178). In response, Senator Robert Hayne
of South Carolina argued that the states should be able to interpose and or nullify the federal
government and its laws when they thought necessary to protect their citizens rights. (Hayne, 166).
Overall, Senator Webster s argument was better because he pointed out that although join the federal
government may seem risky, it overall goal is to ensure a stronger nation for the people. Senator
Webster argued that the states should be considered as one nation and in doing this, the federal
government make the laws for the citizens. (Webster, 178). Webster argued correctly when he argued
that along with the Ordinance of 1787, slavery was forbidden and was morally and politically wrong.
(Webster 175, 176). Webster argued that his goal was to never want the federal government to have
total power over the states (Webster, 176). Webster stated that the federal government is made by the
people elected in office and its sole goal was to protect and implement laws that is for the people.
Webster s argument was became weak when he started to analyze Senator Hayne use of the Hartford
Convention. He stated that the Hartford Convention assembled for any such purpose as breaking up
the Union, because they thought unconstitutional laws had been passed (Webster 177). Instead of

Delirium is a condition that is often treated by identifying and correcting the underlying etiology
(Townsend Morgan, 2017). This includes the healthcare team addressing if the patient was hypoxic,
took certain medications, or had a fluid and electrolyte imbalance that lead to the delirium (Townsend
Morgan, 2017). Medical treatment modalities for delirium involve select pharmacological therapy for
specific symptoms, but are not recommended (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Common pharmacological
interventions include reducing symptoms of psychosis or substance withdrawal (Townsend Morgan,
2017). Physicians prescribe anti psychotics such as Haloperidol at a low dose to reduce the agitation
associated with delirium (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Other medical treatment modalities for delirium
include the use of anxiolytic agents such as Benzodiazepines to reduce the occurrence of delirium
associated with substance withdrawal (Townsend Morgan, 2017). Lastly, as the delirious client

In The Confederacy of Dunces, John Kennedy Toole conveys several dysfunctional relationships

giving her freedom to live her life.
Mrs. Reilly gives her complete attention to Ignatius and treats him like a 12 year old boy who still

Optimism In Voltaire s Candide By Ervin Beck
The article Voltaire s Candide by Ervin Beck discusses many aspects of the novella. Beck describes
how Voltaire divided the novella into three distinct sections, all of which are about the same in length,
that are separated based on where the events are taking place. The first ten chapters describe the
journey of Candide and his friends through Europe. Chapter ten depicts his journey at sea from Europe
to the Americas. The following ten chapters depict Candide in America where he reaches the
seemingly perfect country El Dorado. Beck notes El Dorado, as the unattainable goal, is

Wood remarks that even though it appears there are so many freakish disasters in the novella and
Candide suffers many horrible events throughout the novel Candide is usually optimistic. There is one
important point in the story where the reader gets a sense that candied has lost his optimism, and it is
the only point where the word optimism is used in the novella. It occurs when Cacambo asks What is
optimism? to which Candide replies it is the mania for insisting that all is well when all is by no
means well. Wood also converses that while Pangloss is considered a philosopher, Candide is one as
well. He sees Candide as a philosopher because he loves to talk about philosophical ideas, but above
all he is young, and his youth permits him attitudes which are not all that far removed from the initial
provincialism of his native Westphalia. And that Candide does find it hard to believe the world is a
bad place if his own affairs are going well. There are many examples throughout the story of Candide
being optimistic especially in the beginning at Thunder Ten Tronckh. He truly believes that he is in the
best place in the world and that his life is so great and the world is a perfect place, when in reality he
only believes this because he has never left to experience the real world. Once he is forced to see that
the world is actually not perfect he begins to realize that there are actually horrible things in the world

The Dark Crystal Film Analysis Making its debut 1982, The Dark Crystal, created and directed by
puppeteers Jim Henson and Frank Oz, was a fantasy film that involved intricate puppeteers and
animatronics. Aside from The Muppets and Sesame Street, which involves more comedic skits to
relay their message to its viewers, The Dark Crystal was a different kind of muppet movie because it
used fantasy, fiction and action to tell its story. With this change in Jim Henson s usual way of story
telling, the fantasy aspect of the movie becomes associated with the narrative patterns and functions of

Later in the film, both Jen and Kira arrive at the Castle of the Crystal but is encountered by
Chamberlain again. This is significant because although Chamberlain attempts to deceive them again,
he ends up capturing Kira, forcing Jen and Chamberlain to join in direct combat , exhibiting the
sixteenth function of Propp. This demonstrates an aspect of one of the struggles a hero has to face in
his or her journey. As Jen attempts to rescue Kira, he finds the location of the dark crystal , bring him
one step closer in achieving his quest. The final challenge is presented when Jen is on top of the dark
crystal and after a failed attempt, resulting in the death of Kira, Jen succeeds in the end by uniting the
shard with the dark crystal fulfilling the prophecy and restoring the planet to its previous state. Thus
showing the final function of Propp: resolution of the task. All these functions create the structure of
Henson s fantasy movie and helps tell a story that keeps its viewers wanting to know what is going to
happen next. With Henson using these narrative patterns and intricately designed puppets to tell a
story to children, it provides a change from laughter and comedy to something filled with excitement
and suspense. In doing so, it gives children a chance to enter a different dimension and maximize their
ability to imagine. Fairytales and fantasies have existed to tell children s stories because of their ability

What Are Gender Roles In American Culture

Cultural Influence on Gender Role
Ever since I was little, all I have ever dreamt about was becoming a successful doctor and living in a
beautiful modern home with my husband and many children. You could say that I m aspiring for my
version of the American dream. My parents, who I look up to, portray a glimpse of this future that I
hope to achieve. Since I grew up in a Nigerian Muslim household, with conservative parents, my sister
and I were raised to uphold certain beliefs regarding gender roles. In a traditional African culture, it s
customary for women to be raised as housewives as men are believed to be the breadwinners of the
household. From a very young age, I was taught to cook, clean and care for my future family. As extra

Natural Disasters Caused By Earthquakes
Natural disaster such as earthquakes can often come and go in unexpected time. Earthquakes can be
dangerous depends on how hard the magnitude of the earthquake hits. The problem is earthquakes can
damages and kills many people and there s no way out of it but human can learn how to protect
themselves from it. For example, human can move to other places, countries that have a lower chance
of earthquake or stay away from buildings and houses when earthquakes happen. Earthquakes is
caused by the movement of tectonic plates under the Earth s crust when they are pushed against each
other. Earthquake is directly danger to everyone because the shakes can causes building to collapse
and kill people. Building can be damage by shaking it a little. The cause of earthquakes have to deal
with the geological fault, landslides, nuclear testing and volcanic activity. When a rock that is
underground, breaks along a fault, an earthquake will happen. As the two parts of a rock rub against
each other roughly, it is pushing against one another which causes pressure to build up. Sometime the
earth has foreshocks which scientists can t tell until the earthquakes get bigger and stronger because it
varies from small earthquakes to big one. Mainshocks can continue for weeks, months, or even years
after the mainshock. The earth has four major layers like inner core, outer core, mantle and crust.
These pieces move slowly around and sliding past one another and bumping into each other. These are

Viking At Coppergate
Introduction From the 8th century to the 11th century, the Vikings, used their stronghold in the
Scandinavian Peninsula, to exploit westward to Iceland and Greenland, even Canada, southward to
mainland Western Europe and southwestward to Britain and Ireland. Tyranny and poor living
conditions might be the main reasons for their invasions (Owen 1999 10). There were two invader
sources, one was from Norway called Norse , the other was from Denmark called Danelaw . At the
beginning of the Vikings expansion, piracy and trade were the dominant elements, however, after a
period of time, they began to settle down in their colonies, such as Britain, France, Ireland and Russia.

De Havilland Inc. Case Report
Date of submission: February 2, 2010
Executive Summary:
Marton s suitability as a Vendor for De Havilland must first prove that its proposal is realistic in price
and does not lack any important elements to efficiently supply the flap shrouds and equipment bay
doors to De Havilland. Once that is clarified, De Havilland must ensure that Marton s is a viable entity
that can perform its duties on a long term basis, provide the necessary warranties and guarantees as
well as perform to the service levels De Havilland is receiving from their current supplier. In order to

It would be important to understand the current process that exist with Dollard Plastics, capture the
total cost of doing business with the current supplier and compare it to Marton Enterprise. The most
expensive bid received is from the current supplier. Dollard Plastics has the experience and
understands the requirements of doing business with De Havilland. De Havilland would most likely
not respond to the RFQ without making sure all the documented steps of delivering the materials and
the pricing structure is in check with what was requested in the RFQ and previously done in the past.
The paper does not provide any information on delivery (i.e. lead times and FOB), type of materials
used, labor charges and other key performance indicators (KPI s) of the current situation with Dollard
Plastics in order to equally compare the two proposals. Prior to moving forward with any
recommendations to the Source Selection Board (SSB) it would be important to consider some factors
on the Marton Enterprise bid:
 Does the proposal fulfill all the specifications initially requested in the RFQ?
 What is the current Supplier s lead time, warranties and any other monetary incentives and how
does it compare to Marton s bid proposal.
 Was the bid, received by Marton, sent by an individual that can bind the organization?
Once the Marton bid has gone through its due diligence, we can then

Spectroscopic Studies Of A Ruthenium
Spectroscopic Studies of a Ruthenium (II) Tris diimine Complex with a Cationic Ligand
By: Akiva Raskind
Mentor: Dr. Thomas Strekas
ABSTRACT
We report the effect of variation in concentration of calf thymus DNA on the fluorescence emission of
OM 73 and OM 120 in different media. Both intercalative and charge dependent binding may occur
between the OM 73 compound and DNA. Through fluorescence titrations the binding constant of OM
73 in a salt solution was estimated. Binding of OM 73 to ds DNA is not temperature dependent.
After one week of exposure to room temperature, both OM 73 and OM 120 solutions exhibit changes
in uv visible absorption spectra and fluoresce spectra. Additions of DNA to OM 73 yielded atypical
reductions in fluorescence intensity with low ds DNA BP additions [0 50 micromolar] to OM 73, and
significant typical increases in fluorescence signal with high ds DNA BP additions to OM 73 [above
100 micromolar].
OM 73 was titrated with low BP ds DNA additions at different NaCl concentrations in order to
investigate the presence of charge dependent binding. When titrating OM 73 at low BP concentrations
of ds DNA, the fluorescence decreases in the low BP concentration range was measured. Smaller
reductions in the fluorescence intensity were observed at larger concentrations of NaCl, indicative of
less binding, when comparable amounts of ds DNA were added. This indicates that the binding of OM
73 at the low BP range to ds DNA BP is almost entirely due to

Case Study Vicarious Trauma
Brief Description Vicarious Trauma, Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Resiliency
The demands of today s healthcare providers and mental health workers, has become challenging due
to the complexities and mass influx of mental health disorders. Although some of these problems may
seem small when compare to trauma and crisis. The population affected by trauma and crisis can be
challenging to those that work directly with this population. Conversely, many workers of this
population suffer from burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. Burnout is defined as of
physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that produces a lack of interest in everyday activities, and
work related constant stress and trauma. Compassion fatigue is when workers no longer have feelings
of compassion, due to exhibiting on going empathy (James Gilliland, 2017). Counselors that suffer
from Vicarious Trauma, is when human service workers are affected by trauma responses in caring for
these individuals, and they start to feel traumatized concordling. Lastly the feeling of Resiliency when
counselors, physicians, social workers, can go back to work without any negative feelings of burnout,
fatigue or feeling traumatized. In the following case study Anna is experiencing nightmares about
being sexually assaulted this is an example of vicarious trauma, she is feeling depressed, and is taking

The Opposite Sex Is A Necessity
The opposite sex is a necessity in our lives. If we did not need them, none of us would be here right
now, literally. By nature, we need someone else in our lives, be it a male or female, and be it friends,
significant others, and family of the opposite sex. We need each other for company, support, and
contentment.
Men and women, on their own, are very strong individuals. They can be happy and have a fulfilling
life individually AT times, but not all the time. Single people go to clubs, they hook up and have one
night stands with their opposite sex. What does this behavior show? It shows that women have a need
for men, and men have a need for women. It shows they need each other s company, even if it is for a
couple of hours. Everyone needs company; loneliness is a very sad state to be in. Think about being
lonely, and automatically your face expression turns neutral or maybe it turns sad, it does not bring
happiness or fulfillment. Yes, sometimes one needs some alone time, but to making it a routine that
calls for misery. Even people that are part of the LBGT community need the opposite sex, maybe not
as a partner but as friends and family. When these people confess their attraction to the same sex, they
wish for their friends and family, male and female, to accept them. Living a happy and fulfilling life
with the opposite sex does not necessarily mean being with a boyfriend or girlfriend in the sense of
being in an intimate relationship. It means fathers,

Advantages Of Electric Fly Killers
How effective are electric fly killers in killing flying insects?
Nowadays, there are always flying insects that are wandering around in a certain place and people
seem to be having a very hard time catching them and killing them at the same time. These flies are a
nuisance to every person because nobody would want to have flies in the house. People would find
these flying insects flying around mostly in their homes, however, they cannot seem to find the source
of this problem. This has occurred every year and yet, people could not find the source of these
problems. Some factors that could be affecting this problem is the change in weather of every month
or season, things that are dirty that may attract flies, etc. The magnitude of this problem may increase
if a solution is not implemented to solve this problem as soon as possible.
Application/Solution
There are different kinds of applications or solutions to this issue, ... Show more content on

The first one is that obviously, electric fly killers eliminate lots of flying insects right away, and it
greatly reduces the insect population around the area. There might be piles and piles of insects within
a few days, and while eventually there will be lesser insects, there is no denying that electric fly killers
play a huge impact on solving this issue. The second benefit is that similarly, electric fly killers allow
people to eliminate flying insects with few chemicals and not much personal involvement. There is no
health risk when it does not come to handling the electric fly killers, nor there any risk of disturbing or
a nest or facing an insect that people fear. Electric fly killers are out of the way and it has limited
personal involvement, so people would not need to involve in anything when it comes to using electric
fly killers. For many people, this is enough to make these devices a popular choice for people that
think of flies as a nuisance to

Comparison Of Good Country People And A Good Man Is Hard...
In both Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find the definition of good is somewhat
skewed, when I read the stories the people who are depicted as good are actually quite bad. In Good
Country People , the sheer fictional elements such as Hulga having a wooden leg only for it to be
stolen by a Bible salesman with a nasty habit of stealing from others on his travels is an interesting
development that defines Hulga s revelation in such that keeps the reader satisfied. Such elements also
show that no matter the person, however they are, can be capable of evil and that not everyone by
appearance is as they seem. To add on to this, both Pointer coming across as a well raised Christian
and Hulga s mother always being so conscious and judgmental of her choices further strengthen that
ugliness in such terms as one being grotesque stems from the nature of a person for who they are as an
individual. Lord. He bored me to death but he was so sincere and genuine I couldn t be rude to him.
He was just good country people, you know just the salt of the earth. (441) I believe that this quotation
reveals how much people are willing to assume that people are good just by the way the look and act.

Differing Opinions on the Controversial Death Penalty...
The issue of capital punishment is one that has been in discussion for many years. How can anyone
control the life of another human being? The accused may have taken the life of another citizen but
what gives anyone the right to take his. This is the main point of the question but it gets vastly more
complicated as the issue is further investigated. For instance, the psychopath who goes on a murderous
rampage might have an abnormality with the frontal lobe of the cortex in his brain. Now, if this is the
case this person may not be able to control his murderous impulses. So, should this person be
punished, and not only should he or she be punished but should the punishment be done for
retribution? After all, most punishment is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course there is the old argument that capital punishment legalizes killing. This holds no ground.
The person who committed a crime deserves to be punished. But, which punishment is worse, life in
prison or death? The criminal sentenced to death most likely suffers more waiting for his death
sentence to be carried out than did the person he murdered. Although this it not positively known. The
next part of this discussion will be carried out by Christopher W. Morris. One must first understand
what justice is compared to benevolence. The standard distinction is to understand justice to pertain to
what individuals are owed, to what they may claim, to what they have a right. (Morris, 273)
Benevolence is concerned with the well being of the accused. Justice is the more important of these
two issues. A moral object is that which is receiving the moral consideration and to achieve moral
standing is to be owed moral consideration, hence be a direct moral object. Having moral standing is a
relation; something has moral standing in its relation to some other entity(ies). (Morris, 274)
Criminals forfeit their moral standing in civilization. They do pay the same moral consideration to
others so the moral consideration to them should be lost. The accused did not respect this social
contract and so this should not be respected upon them. The last part of this discussion will be

The Causes And Factors For The Trafficking Essay
ROOT CAUSES OF TRAFFICKING Causes and the factors for the trafficking are diverse among
nation to another nation. It includes various social, economic and cultural factors. There are some
common factors like the gender wise more girls are trafficked for forced sexual exploitation which is
seen in many nations. Poverty, armed conflicts, political unrest, lacking enforcement of human rights
and natural disasters etc will increase the trafficking of human. War and internal conflict in nation is
one of the important context which leads to large number of neglected children, orphan children, street
children etc which will increase the chance of many children getting trafficked. Poverty has a close
relation with vulnerability and marginalization of human and is one of the causes for trafficking
among the children. The situation in which parents sell children with positive motive and negative
motive is very common. Parents think of at least saving the child from the poverty they face so that
they sell the children thinking it provides the children more opportunity for development. Gender
based stereotypes among the people which consider females with low value are one among the causes
for trafficking of girls. Girl children are been trafficked for forced prostitution, child marriage etc.
Female infanticide is an indirect cause for trafficking of girls. Most of the places lack females for
marriage and

L. Russ Bush s The Advancement
Introduction
In the book, The Advancement: Keeping the Faith in an Evolutionary Age, L. Russ Bush provides a
synopsis of the worldview he called, The Advancement. Bush believed the worldview included
thoughts of naturalistic evolution, inevitable progress, and process theology forming a worldview that
dominates Western civilization. Bush overall purpose for his thesis, The older worldview is not true
because it s old, and it too may be in need of refinement in light of better understandings of the Bible,

He describes the fundamental parts of the Christian worldview has been replaced with the idea of
inevitable progress in the advancement worldview. He states, If God created the world, as the
Christian Bible said that he did, then the world of nature should be reasonably stable, orderly and
predictable. In his idea of stability in nature, Bush provides a distinct view of the modern worldview
by stating, to the modern mind, however, progress is inevitable. It is a characteristic of nature and a
characteristic of mankind (Ch. 1). He concludes chapter one cautioning readers of the risks included
with the modern worldview and confirms his belief in the worldview of authentic Christianity. In
chapter two, Bush discusses the rise of advancement science. He discusses how naturalistic evolution
became the scientific method. Bush states, the first noticeable symptoms of this shift from a Christian
to a naturalistic worldview within the church began to show up among the eighteenth century.
Scientist started offering a more sophisticated and fairly comprehensive way to interpret scientific data
without acknowledging God. This provided a platform for materialistic assumptions of the Western

Morgan Spurlock s Film, Super Size Me Essay
As Steven Spielberg once said, documentaries are the greatest way to educate an entire generation
(Azevedo, 2013). In Morgan Spurlock s documentary Super Size Me, audiences are informed and
shown the dangers of consuming fast food everyday. Spurlock has a camera follow him for one month
as he consumes McDonalds for each meal thus exposing one to the unhealthy affects of the lifestyle.
Relying on images, interviews, and statistics the viewers are informed of how processed fast foods
begin to affect people starting from a young age. This documentary style film shapes the perception of

uncontrolled situations, the audience is put into his shoes as they watch these situations unfold just as
he once did (Cornell, Lecture #12). Spurlock sets rules to control the experiment for more accurate
results. These rules include eating three meals at McDonalds each day, only eating or drinking items
that are sold by McDonalds, super sizing meals only when asked, and trying everything on the menu
at least once. Rather than visiting the same McDonalds and dealing with the same employees, he
travels around to different cities and states. In the beginning of his experiment, Spurlock travels to
Houston, Texas which is known for being the most obese city in the United States. On his first trip to a
McDonalds in Houston he is automatically asked if he would prefer to super size his meal.
Throughout his entire 30 day experiment he is asked to super size his meal nine times, five of those
times are from employees in Texas. Questioning a vast array of people in schools and on the street,
Spurlock attempts to provoke responses in subjects being interviewed as well as the audience (Cornell,
Lecture #12). Due to the lack of direction and script the questions, answers, and

The Issue Of Sex Education
2 out of 10 girls in the U.S. will get pregnant by the age of 20 (Tsai). Teen pregnancies and STI s in
teens are very common. Teenagers in schools across the US are at risk of getting pregnant. They may
even have a sexually transmitted disease and not know it. Many teenagers and even some adults do
not know a lot about sexual health. That is because schools are not giving out some of the most
important information to their students in sex education classes. All public schools should require that
sex education teaches more than only about abstinence and STI s. First, schools need to make sure that
the information being taught in sex education is medically correct. Many teenagers will go through
sex education, but it is a different experience for all of them because of lack of standardized curricula
at the federal, state, and sometimes district level (Hamilton). As of right now, sex education is mostly
based on the importance of abstinence and the types of sexually transmitted infections. Although
schools are trying to promote no sex in teens, that does not mean that teens are not in sexual
relationships. Teens who are engaging in sexual actions need to know about safe sex because that
exists although people say it does not. According to the National Conference of State Legislature, 38
States do not require mandated sex education and another 41 do not require sex education to be
medically correct (Marinelli). Most sex education programs do not teach true facts because

Dictatorship In The Movie Antz My children love movies about animals and insects, so when I decided to watch the animated movie Antz last night, it had guarantee to be an entertaining night for kids and I. • 5. Essay on The Charismatic Gifts THE CHARISMATIC GIFTS: THEIR USE, FUNCTION,AND CONTINUITY Joseph Oliveri Bible 364 Acts August 16, 2013 Introduction Their is much debate surrounding the use of the charismatic gifts in Acts. Many questions arise about how to use such gifts, and whether or not they can be used today in the first place. The debate regarding the continuation and the cessation of the spiritual gifts, the meaning of which we will clarify in a moment, is a relatively modern one. Although we read about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in Acts, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the early church of the New Testament, history is more or less silent on this issue. Here, it is seen that the gift and gifts of the Spirit serve as the external manifestation of the triumph and enthronement of Christ. 4 Furthermore, in 1 Cor. 1:7 11, the point is made that the exercise of any gift of the Spirit is the ministry of the word given to God s people, and that the ministry of God s revelatory word is central to the use of all other gifts... they give expression to that word in various ways. 5 This is why, in an eclectic grouping of the various giftings (found in 1 Cor. 12:8 11, 1 Cor. 12:28, Rom. 12:6 8, Eph. 4:11, and 1 Pet. 4:11), the work of the ministry of the word of God is paramount, that is, the revelatory word through the apostle and prophet is foundational, while all else is informed by and flows from this. 6 Second, Paul grounds the use of the gifts in love. The reflection of the manifestations of these gifts were meant to emphasize God s grace, that is, the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost as a sign of the new covenant for believers. This, of course, was a fulfillment of the Prophecy of Joel ( Joel 2:28 32; cf. Acts 2:17 18). Peter understood the prophesying to which Joel referred to be fulfilled by that speaking of tongues produced by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Essay about Twentieth Century Evolves to the Twentieth First Anderson (2007) claims, The technological innovations, improved surgical techniques, and revolutions in drug therapies presented another problem: The field of medical ethic, or bioethics as it is now called, had to undergo radical change to keep pace with improvements in diagnosis and patient care (Anderson, 2007, p. 262). Technology unquestionably created changes in every area of our lives, particularly throughout the last two hundred years, and in no industry is that more clear than the field of medicine. With HIV being a major global epidemic, we are still seeing high numbers and new cases arise every year. In the twentieth century the syndrome was the most famous epidemic and still is considered to be so today with many people dying from the disease. In the healthcare community the top priority for HIV/ AIDS for both periods have been prevention and access to treatment. Researchers continue to push forward toward a cure for this epidemic as they did in the twentieth century through clinical trials and exploration. We also see similarities when it comes to the cost of health care treatment. We are still seeing today how health care is a distress to many people who are not able to afford it just as it was prohibitive to persons without medical insurance in the past (Anderson, 2007). The medical advancements and improvements in twentieth century medicine involved inventions of a vast number of technologies and medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment (Anderson, 2007. p 268). These medical advancements certainly influenced health and medicine today. Technological improvements made it possible for physicians to provide medical care and more accurately diagnosis illnesses and trauma with less invasive methods. • 8. The Sexual Function Of Laboratory Animals Abstract Castration in males may be the result of disease or injury. It is expected that after a castration procedure, the males will lose sexual function. In this experiment there were seventeen male rats randomly distributed into three groups; sham group (N = 5), castrated and oil group (N = 4) and castrated and testosterone group (N = 7). The control group received a sham operation and bi daily injections of oil to show that it was not a surgical procedure or bi daily injections that caused the lowered production of testosterone. As expected sexual function was able to be restored in the castrated males by giving bi daily supplementation of testosterone hormone at the same rate that testicles would normally produce this hormone. The castrated males that did not receive the testosterone injections but had received the bi daily injections of oil, did not have successful restoration of their sexual function. Studying sexual function in laboratory animals is important to be able to develop ways to supplement hormones in humans and to restore sexual function in those who have suffered an injury or disease that resulted in a castration procedure. Introduction Sexual function is dependent on the testosterone levels produced by the interstitial cells of the testicle. The role of testosterone deficiency in sexual function can be directly linked to diseases of reproductive organs, injury, certain medications and aging factors. No matter the viewpoints it is important to consider how integration impacts the students. At the end of the day what students retain is what matters and retaining information can happen in a variety of different ways. Integration provides a way to connect multiple subjects and allows students to make connections. Integration can be difficult for teachers to teach because the integration does not fit well, but the outcome of integration is beneficial. With the heavy weight of assessments and standardized, tests teachers need to make sure that whatever they teach needs to connect to standards and unites. Science has become a subject that has been put on the back burner because tests like Maps and Paws testing do not assess science. There are many factors that affect what and how teachers teach. Integration of math and science is one way to teach that allows teachers cover more than one major subject. Integration allows teachers to teach science and math in the same environment that allows students to flourish. The classroom is filled with a variety of different objectives and lessons and as teachers we need to make sure we are using our time the best ability. The United States The Home Appliance Industry In the United States the home appliance industry is a mature market with high penetration, therefore, replacement product is significantly important to the industry. The United States has three major manufacturers for domestic production: Whirlpool, General Electric, and Electrolux. The appliance industry is changing rapidly and becoming more competitive with the influence of Asian competitors, specifically, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, who are major appliance importers. Subsequently, in January 2016, a Chinese manufacturer, Haier, bid for the purchase of General Electric Appliances, finalizing the contract on June 6, 2016 (Thompson, 2016). If the department looks at these different ways to receive money, they can provide incentives to draw in future firefighters. Solutions would be to pay a higher hourly rate as well as implement education tuition funds for the firefighters. As a result, the Department would be able to offer more incentives to their new firefighters which would lead to increased amount firefighters that will want to apply at this fire department. This will structure the department to stand out from the other paid on call departments. Body Identify the problem The fiscal problem is that there are not enough paid on call firefighters to respond to calls. Recruiting more firefighters to the Western Springs Fire Department would be a benefit to the department as well as the village. The department would have enough firefighters to control the all calls by mitigating the problem and save life/ property. This would also eliminate the need of calling and rely on other departments to respond to the villages own 911 call. If the fire department has extra beneficial items to offer to the new firefighters it could attract more firefighters to join and this would stop the fiscal problem. Beck describes how Voltaire divided the novella into three distinct sections, all of which are about the same in length, that are separated based on where the events are taking place. The first ten chapters describe the journey of Candide and his friends through Europe. Chapter ten depicts his journey at sea from Europe to the Americas. The following ten chapters depict Candide in America where he reaches the seemingly perfect country El Dorado. There is one important point in the story where the reader gets a sense that candied has lost his optimism, and it is the only point where the word optimism is used in the novella. It occurs when Cacambo asks What is optimism? to which Candide replies it is the mania for insisting that all is well when all is by no means well. Wood also converses that while Pangloss is considered a philosopher, Candide is one as well. He sees Candide as a philosopher because he loves to talk about philosophical ideas, but above all he is young, and his youth permits him attitudes which are not all that far removed from the initial provincialism of his native Westphalia. Spectroscopic Studies Of A Ruthenium Spectroscopic Studies of a Ruthenium (II) Tris diimine Complex with a Cationic Ligand By: Akiva Raskind Mentor: Dr. Thomas Strekas ABSTRACT We report the effect of variation in concentration of calf thymus DNA on the fluorescence emission of OM 73 and OM 120 in different media. Both intercalative and charge dependent binding may occur between the OM 73 compound and DNA. Through fluorescence titrations the binding constant of OM 73 in a salt solution was estimated. Binding of OM 73 to ds DNA is not temperature dependent. After one week of exposure to room temperature, both OM 73 and OM 120 solutions exhibit changes in uv visible absorption spectra and fluoresce spectra. Additions of DNA to OM 73 yielded atypical reductions in fluorescence intensity with low ds DNA BP additions [0 50 micromolar] to OM 73, and significant typical increases in fluorescence signal with high ds DNA BP additions to OM 73 [above 100 micromolar]. OM 73 was titrated with low BP ds DNA additions at different NaCl concentrations in order to investigate the presence of charge dependent binding. When titrating OM 73 at low BP concentrations of ds DNA, the fluorescence decreases in the low BP concentration range was measured. Smaller reductions in the fluorescence intensity were observed at larger concentrations of NaCl, indicative of less binding, when comparable amounts of ds DNA were added. This indicates that the binding of OM 73 at the low BP range to ds DNA BP is almost entirely due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second benefit is that similarly, electric fly killers allow people to eliminate flying insects with few chemicals and not much personal involvement. There is no health risk when it does not come to handling the electric fly killers, nor there any risk of disturbing or a nest or facing an insect that people fear. Electric fly killers are out of the way and it has limited personal involvement, so people would not need to involve in anything when it comes to using electric fly killers. For many people, this is enough to make these devices a popular choice for people that think of flies as a nuisance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Black Plague Monologue Analysis Dear Humphery, Thank you Humphery for responding to me on the letter I mailed a while back and I am truly sorry to hear about your son Oliver being infected from the Black Plague. I would kind of know how that would feel because my grandparents died when I was only 9 years old. From what my grandparents have told me, who have passed away when i was a young boy that the Black plague was a major virus that was killing off millions of citizens throughout Europe and kept spreading. My grandfather had told me that his brother was traveling with a couple hundred people and he was soon infected and after a couple of days he had passed away. • 30. Comparison Of Good Country People And A Good Man Is Hard... In both Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find the definition of good is somewhat skewed, when I read the stories the people who are depicted as good are actually quite bad. In Good Country People , the sheer fictional elements such as Hulga having a wooden leg only for it to be stolen by a Bible salesman with a nasty habit of stealing from others on his travels is an interesting development that defines Hulga s revelation in such that keeps the reader satisfied. Such elements also show that no matter the person, however they are, can be capable of evil and that not everyone by appearance is as they seem. To add on to this, both Pointer coming across as a well raised Christian and Hulga s mother always being so conscious and judgmental of her choices further strengthen that ugliness in such terms as one being grotesque stems from the nature of a person for who they are as an individual. Lord. He bored me to death but he was so sincere and genuine I couldn t be rude to him. He was just good country people, you know just the salt of the earth. • 31. Differing Opinions on the Controversial Death Penalty... The issue of capital punishment is one that has been in discussion for many years. How can anyone control the life of another human being? The accused may have taken the life of another citizen but what gives anyone the right to take his. This is the main point of the question but it gets vastly more complicated as the issue is further investigated. For instance, the psychopath who goes on a murderous rampage might have an abnormality with the frontal lobe of the cortex in his brain. Now, if this is the case this person may not be able to control his murderous impulses. So, should this person be punished, and not only should he or she be punished but should the punishment be done for retribution? After all, most punishment is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course there is the old argument that capital punishment legalizes killing. This holds no ground. The person who committed a crime deserves to be punished. But, which punishment is worse, life in prison or death? The criminal sentenced to death most likely suffers more waiting for his death sentence to be carried out than did the person he murdered. Although this it not positively known. The next part of this discussion will be carried out by Christopher W. Morris. One must first understand what justice is compared to benevolence. The standard distinction is to understand justice to pertain to what individuals are owed, to what they may claim, to what they have a right. (Morris, 273) Benevolence is concerned with the well being of the accused. Justice is the more important of these two issues. A moral object is that which is receiving the moral consideration and to achieve moral standing is to be owed moral consideration, hence be a direct moral object. Having moral standing is a relation; something has moral standing in its relation to some other entity(ies). (Morris, 274) Criminals forfeit their moral standing in civilization. They do pay the same moral consideration to others so the moral consideration to them should be lost. The accused did not respect this social contract and so this should not be respected upon them. Russ Bush provides a synopsis of the worldview he called, The Advancement. Bush believed the worldview included thoughts of naturalistic evolution, inevitable progress, and process theology forming a worldview that dominates Western civilization. Bush overall purpose for his thesis, The older worldview is not true because it s old, and it too may be in need of refinement in light of better understandings of the Bible, but authentic Christianity is the best antidote for a culture that is dying from the venom of the Advancement. He states, If God created the world, as the Christian Bible said that he did, then the world of nature should be reasonably stable, orderly and predictable. In his idea of stability in nature, Bush provides a distinct view of the modern worldview by stating, to the modern mind, however, progress is inevitable. It is a characteristic of nature and a characteristic of mankind (Ch. 1). He concludes chapter one cautioning readers of the risks included with the modern worldview and confirms his belief in the worldview of authentic Christianity. In chapter two, Bush discusses the rise of advancement science. He discusses how naturalistic evolution became the scientific method. Bush states, the first noticeable symptoms of this shift from a Christian to a naturalistic worldview within the church began to show up among the eighteenth century. One can see that Spurlock believes that fast food industry is responsible for the rise in obesity hence the reason for his experiment. Through narrative and editing Spurlock removes any biases that may alter the results of his experiment (Cornell, Lecture #12). He films himself as well as others in uncontrolled situations, the audience is put into his shoes as they watch these situations unfold just as he once did (Cornell, Lecture #12). Spurlock sets rules to control the experiment for more accurate results. These rules include eating three meals at McDonalds each day, only eating or drinking items that are sold by McDonalds, super sizing meals only when asked, and trying everything on the menu at least once. Rather than visiting the same McDonalds and dealing with the same employees, he travels around to different cities and states. In the beginning of his experiment, Spurlock travels to Houston, Texas which is known for being the most obese city in the United States. On his first trip to a McDonalds in Houston he is automatically asked if he would prefer to super size his meal. Throughout his entire 30 day experiment he is asked to super size his meal nine times, five of those times are from employees in Texas. Questioning a vast array of people in schools and on the street, Spurlock attempts to provoke responses in subjects being interviewed as well as the audience (Cornell, Lecture #12). • 35. The Issue Of Sex Education 2 out of 10 girls in the U.S. will get pregnant by the age of 20 (Tsai). Teen pregnancies and STI s in teens are very common. Teenagers in schools across the US are at risk of getting pregnant. They may even have a sexually transmitted disease and not know it. Many teenagers and even some adults do not know a lot about sexual health. That is because schools are not giving out some of the most important information to their students in sex education classes. All public schools should require that sex education teaches more than only about abstinence and STI s. First, schools need to make sure that the information being taught in sex education is medically correct. Many teenagers will go through sex education, but it is a different experience for all of them because of lack of standardized curricula at the federal, state, and sometimes district level (Hamilton). As of right now, sex education is mostly based on the importance of abstinence and the types of sexually transmitted infections. Although schools are trying to promote no sex in teens, that does not mean that teens are not in sexual relationships. Teens who are engaging in sexual actions need to know about safe sex because that exists although people say it does not. According to the National Conference of State Legislature, 38 States do not require mandated sex education and another 41 do not require sex education to be medically correct (Marinelli). Most sex education programs do not teach true facts because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
