7 Eleven in Taiwan
With the accelerated pace of people s lives, convenience stores have played an increasingly important
role in today s society. 7 Eleven and Family Mart, which are the most famous convenience store
chains, can be found easily in many countries or regions. This assignment aims to address 6 questions
sufficiently that based on the case of 7 Eleven in Taiwan: the first two are focus on the concept of
convenience stores and the rest will link with the expansion and adaptation of 7 Eleven to the new
market Taiwan.

Finally, the product offerings in Taiwan were more localized to meet Taiwanese consumers needs and
technology was also integrated into the concept.
Q3: How the 7 Eleven stores in Taiwan compare with their counterparts in the US?
The first Taiwanese 7 Eleven store was launched by PCSC in 1980. As the local franchisee, PCSC
kept the store logo and the core of convenience store concept that was well established in America. By
contrast, other aspects of the store chain had been re formatted. For the layout, 7 Eleven in Taiwan had
smaller average store area of 700 m2, only a quarter of that in the US. In terms of product offerings,
despite providing basic daily use products as the US model, the Taiwanese 7 Eleven stores also served
local common foods such as tea egg, luwei and biandang. Furthermore, innovative services were the
distinctive traits of Taiwanese 7 Eleven. In spite of the high level of operations, PCSC also extended
the concept of customer convenience to the information technology(IT). For example, 7 Eleven in
Taiwan introduced e commerce (i Bon reserve train or opera tickets), e payment (i Cash), mobile
communications (phone cards and the Internet) , pickup and delivery (books and auction items).
Finally, the value chain was improved well by 7 Eleven Taiwan. Except the development of

Yellow Journalism After The Revolutionary War
It is journalism without soul. Yellow journalism, more commonly defined as news that has been
slightly altered in order to invoke emotion and response from its readers, became popular in the late
1890s. After the sinking of the U.S.S Maine, a United States Navy ship, Joseph Pulitzer and William
Randolph Hearst saw an opportunity to grow their own newspaper empire, specifically featuring
yellow journalism in the headlines. Originally, President McKinley did not want to have a war with
Spain, but with pressure from the public, he was forced into it. Although yellow press did invoke
emotion from its American readers, causing them to want action done in Cuba, historians fail to

Before Spain declared war on April 25, 1898, the United States government believed that Spain was
about to withdraw from Cuba, worked hard for more time to prevent war. But, with the news of the
Maine and Americans interest dramatically increasing, McKinley s doubts of going into war had
become a reality; America declared war on the Spanish on April 25, 1898, just after they had declared
war on the United States. Even in the war McKinley focused on the desire to maintain constant
pressure on Spain in the hopes of facing an early end to the war and also hoped to end it quickly at the
least possible expenditure of blood and treasure. As the war progressed and America began to win
battles, the government and public were excited that the war would come to a close. At the end of the

Quiet American Imperialism
Everyone is born under different circumstances, different experiences, and develop different positions.
Although gender allows our existence to flourish, females were and are still discriminated against.
Similar to those people who experienced the dismantle of their culture and people, imperialism seeks
people who are different. They observe the differences of language, culture, and even physical
appearances. In Heart of Darkness and The Quiet American, the treatment of women and victims of
imperialism are almost indistinguishable. Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene were both aware of the
constraints women in the 19th and 20th century faced for simply being rational and intelligent.
Women were objectified and a straightjacket of propriety, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parallelism between female suppression and the conquest of the natives are functioning
simultaneously in Conrad s novel. Women are too, those being victimized. They are similar to the
natives who were objectified and perceived to be uncivilized and ultimately unable to handle
responsibility. They are lied to, promised things, and bound by a traditional institution rather than
love. Conrad, therefore acknowledges this misconstruction of gender equality, by becoming aware of
its biasness.
It is also argued that Conrad had racist tendencies in Heart of Darkness because he refrains from
giving a voice to the Africans. He does this as well with women, refraining from much dialogue within
the text several times. But does this truly make him a racist or a sexist, for that matter? Readers look at
these examples as a cut and clear indication that Conrad had no regard for these groups of people,
without a full examination of his intentions. I believe the evolution of Marlow as a character
represents Conrad s true intention. Marlow right off the start of the novel can be seen as a sexist,
maybe because of the lack of a female character in his life. He feels embarrassed that he has to go to
his aunt for a job, but he does acknowledge her pull to get him an opportunity to travel the Congo. I
believe Conrad was being satirical when he presented this view of Marlow on women. Marlow
describes women as living, in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like

The Pros And Cons Of Breach Of Warranty
Everyday billions of consumers purchase products across the entire world. As natural consumers, this
is a way to buy things that are seen as beneficial for whatever the reason may be. This could include
benefitting one s health or well being or simply meeting personals wants and needs. In the United
States, buying and selling products is so common that many underlying factors of what goes into the
process go unnoticed, up until something goes wrong. As a consumer, you naturally expect that what
you are buying is 100% safe, secure, and authentic because most of the time this is the case. However,
for the times when something does go wrong, it is important to know the legalities of product liability
as both a producer and a consumer. Product liability is the legal liability manufacturers and sellers

The term also covers a failure of a statement or agreement by a seller of property which is a part of the
contract of sale, when the truth of the statement is necessary to the validity of the contract (USLegal,
2007). Breach of warranty claims come in two forms an express warranty or implied warranty. An
express warranty is one that is explicitly stated from the manufacturer or seller to the consumer. Most
express warranties are made in written statements, warning stickers, informational tags, etc. Although,
an advertisement or a product sample that demonstrates how the product is properly used may also be
used to make an express warranty claim (Rottenstein Law Group, 2010). Contrary to this, an implied
warranty is not explicitly stated. Instead, an implied warranty is based on the reasonable expectations
of the buyer. For example, when a shopper buys a lamp, they expect it to light up the room without the
lightbulb getting so hot that it starts a fire. This would be a reasonable expectation of the

Building Roman Civilization Analysis
Intelligence and physical strength are equally contributed to the buliding of the city. They are equally
contibuted to the building of the city because of the way it was built, they had to figure out what to do
when it would not cut through the wood, also it took a lot of strength to lift it up. It took intelligence to
figure out how it was built. It states from the passage Building a Roman City By: David Macaulay,
The skilled laborers cut, polished, or carved inscriptions in the stone. It also states, The clay was made
into bricks and tiles in factories near Arretium. The clay, dug out of large pits in the ground, was
formed into standard shapes and sizes using wooden molds. The mold was then removed and the wet
clay was placed in an oven to dry and harden. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It states from the passage, The unskilled workeers seperated and lifted the huge blocks from the earth.
It also states, The stone was usually cut with a saw. When the stone was very hard, the blade used in
the saw had no teeth; sand and steel filings were placed under the blade and the back and forth motion
of the saw ground away the stone. It also talks about where the wood that they used for the city came
from, it states, The wood used for scaffolding and roof framework came from a forest at the foot of the
Apennine Mountains to the south. This proves that another hard part of the job was lifting the blocks
up. In conclusion, building the city of Rome was super hard for everyone. There was a job for
everyone to take part in, and it all required hard work, intelligence and phyical strength. If one person
did not do their part then it would be hard for them to finish because building the City of Rome was a
difficult task you would have to have a lot of people who were smart enough to do some parts of the

that the british would have officers go into homes without permission, which was invading privacy.
Admittedly, there are some who believe that the sons of liberty were terrorist or fanatics. The reason
why some people believe this is because the sons of liberty did some stuff back then that would not be
acceptable such as, incited riots, the tea party, tarring and feathering tax collectors, taking furniture
from tax collectors and burning down their homes, smuggling, recruiting thugs, refused to pay tax´s

people are mad at you for doing your job. However, if it wasn t for all that torture and suffering on the

Large plant sizes and the need for economies of scale rendered the ethylene industry highly capital
intensive. Consequently, capacity additions or reductions could significantly affect balance of supply

companies, governments, pure chemical companies, conglomerates, private investors, and joint

What Makes 1000 Degrees Different?
When comparing franchise chains, potential owners need to consider what makes the franchise stand

Gambling and Sports
Should Sports Gambling Be Legalized?
Gambling is a common practice throughout human history, one that appeals to the individual s desire
for gain and offers the thrill of risk or uncertainty. Sports gambling is the wagering of money or other
items of value on the outcome of a sporting event, dependent either wholly or in part on chance
(Thompson, 2008, p. 1). Sports gambling generates billions of dollars annually, with large events like
the Super Bowl or World Series alone able to generate wagers in the billions of dollars. This research
will explore the arguments of those who oppose sports gambling and those who support it in order to

According to Thompson (2008), as of 2008 there were over 150 racetracks operating in the U.S., with
annual wagers on horse racing totaling more than $16 billion. Dog racing is also legal in a number of
states, but it is not as popular or widespread as horse racing. Proponents of sports gambling maintain
betting on such events generates lucrative revenues, provides thousands of jobs, and offers sports
bettors a means of entertainment and a chance for gain. Despite these arguments, there are a number
of sound arguments put forth by those who remain staunchly opposed to legalizing sports gambling in
the U.S. One of the biggest reasons opponents of sports gambling are opposed to wagering on sporting
events is because of the potential for sports gambling to result in fixed sporting events and ultimately
undermining the integrity of professional and amateur sports in the U.S. As Thompson (2008)
explains, sports gambling remains illegal and heavily regulated by the government because of the
potential for events to be fixed, or illegally influenced (using bribes or other forms of compensation)
(p. 2). It is not that difficult to see how this might happen, since numerous sports gambling scandals
have occurred in the past. The 1919 World Series was fixed by Chicago White Sox players. Pete Rose
was banned from baseball and denied admittance to the Baseball Hall of Fame because of his
admission to gambling on sporting events while he

Cezanne applied his paint in thick layers with broad, discrete, and methodical brushstrokes, remaining
true to the architectural ideal that every portion of the canvas must contribute to the structural integrity
of the painting. With each brushstroke, Cezanne was constructing a picture as apposed to painting it
(Paul Cézanne Biography). In contrast, Monet used a single color, applying it, using a bold, flat and
evenly loaded brush. This technique is called tache, a French word for blot. This technique moved
paintings away from the blending of colors on the canvas, and led to the application of different colors
to represent the ripples across water and how the light falls on the subject, as seen in Monet s painting
On the Bank of the Seine ( Brushwork ). Alternatively, Thomas Cole came from the Hudson River

The Narrative Techniques Used by Hitchcock in Rear Window
L.B. Jeffries is a high class magazine photographer for what seems to be a worldwide publication. In
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window , he is a temporarily wheelchair bound man and his voyeuristic side
appears later on in the film.
Rear Window depicts a 20th century New York in which fraudsters, murderers and salesmen all live
alongside each other. The story describes a man who broke his leg during a photography assignment.
He is, for the time being, stuck in a wheelchair with nothing to do but look at the neighbours through
his Rear Window . He hasn t seen the light of day since seven weeks ago.

This also shows that it is the start of the story. The window fills the whole frame of the shot. This is a
good way of setting the scene for the viewers. Old style joyous jazz music is played at the start a good
way of portraying happy times. The opening scene in Rear Window has no dialogue, leaving even
more of the viewers in a pool of anticipation. The scene highlights the fact that every single thing in
the film will be seen through that particular window.
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window is a great example of first rate camerawork. The camera is used as
the narrator and probably plays the biggest role within the film. At the start of the film, the camera is
used to pan around every single apartment within the inner city New York apartment block to
introduce the characters. Although the characters do not speak, they still play a major role in the film.
Alfred Hitchcock puts the viewers in the position of L.B Jeffries, making us all voyeurs. The camera is
used to tell the story, as there is very little dialogue in the film. Throughout nearly all of the film, only
one shot is used to tell the story, there are very few cuts. By doing it this way, Hitchcock is showing us
exactly what the character is seeing.
The cast of Rear Window includes Jimmy Stewart, the lovely Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, and

side of Haiti a few days ago where the people threw rocks at the president s motorcade a la Maduro.
The chief of the police, Mr. Michel Ange Gedeon was summoned to the Haitian National Palace in
Port au Prince accompanied by two aides. Mr. Gedeon was received by President Moise flanked by
Wilson Laleau and Ardouin Zephirin, two of his senior advisors. The Chief of the Police was
presented with a list of people the president demanded that he fire immediately, or else he would ask
the Haitian Senate to terminate him. The president reportedly told the chief: I control the majority of
the Senate and I will see to it that you are gone pronto.
This political faux pas by Jovenel Moise has raised eyes brows among international observers
especially members of the CORE Group, (a de facto caretaker of the Haitian Government) whose
members sought clarification from the President. Not since the fall of the Duvaliers that ... Show more

Abstract: the open nature of the wireless medium leaves it vulnerable to drive or wedge packets
forcibly into a tight position referred as squeeze. This intentional interference with wireless
transmissions can be used as a launch pad for mounting Denial of Service attacks on wireless
networks typically; squeeze has been addressed under an external threat model. However, person with
depth knowledge of internet protocol specifications and network secrets can launch low effort squeeze
attacks that are difficult to detect and counter. In these attacks, the adversary is active only for a short
period of time, selectively targeting messages of high importance. We illustrate the advantages of
selective squeeze in terms of network performance degradation and adversary effort by presenting two
case studies; a selective attack on TCP and one on routing. In this work, we address the problem of
selective squeeze attacks in wireless networks. We show that selective squeeze attacks can be
launched by performing real time packet classification at the physical layer. To reduce these attacks,
we develop three schemes that prevent real time packet classification by combining cryptographic
primitives with physical layer attributes. We

The Importance Of Handgun In Texas Law
As of January 1, 2016, Texas law permits individuals to straightforwardly convey their handgun in the
event that they are authorized by the Texas state or whatever other condition of The United States with
a few special cases. The state requires the transparently conveyed handgun to be in a shoulder or belt
holster of the authorized person(Dps.texas.gov). Individuals over the age of 21 can have a permit and
convey their gun anyway they wish to and wherever they wish to with the measures of wellbeing.
There are sure confinements on the open convey of handgun on the general population of Texas, for

Female Characters In A Lesson Before Dying
The fictional town of Bayonne in A Lesson Before Dying is based on a plantation where the author
Ernest J. Gaines was born. This novel took place in the late 1940s a time when radical discrimination
was a major problem, and the Jim Crow laws validated segregation and discrimination. Although the
major personalities are males, there are three female characters that influence the males to solve the
difficulties in their life they would usually ignore. Each female character persuades and motivates
Jefferson and Grant from running away from their responsibilities. Tante Lou and Miss Emma
convince Grant to make Jefferson die like a man and not a hog, and Vivian makes Grant stay in the
quarter and not run away from his purpose in his life.
One of the first female characters introduced is Miss Emma, Jefferson s godmother. The first
description of Miss Emma is in the courtroom where she is described as a heavy set woman weighing
approximately two hundred pounds. We know she is a caring woman because while in the courtroom
she never got up to use the bathroom or get a glass of water. Even though she may not be strong
enough to sway the juries mind or protect Jefferson of the unfair sentencing of death by electrocution.
She is strong enough to stay in the courtroom and give the support that Jefferson needs. Everyone by
now knew what the outcome would be for Jefferson. Gaines illustrates the reason why Miss Emma
and the other blacks were upset was because his defense attorney called

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Sunscreens
i) Sunscreen products:
What are sunscreens?
Sunscreens are products that combine multiple ingredients that help prevent the sun s ultraviolet (UV)
radiation from reaching the skin. Understanding UV radiation:
UV radiation is an electromagnetic radiation that reaches the earth from the sun. It is classified into
UVA, UVB and UVC according to their wavelength. UVC is usually absorbed by the ozone layer not
penetrating to earth while UVA and UVB penetrate the ozone layer and play an important role in skin
photo aging, sun burns and skin cancer. Most of the UVB IS filtered by the atmosphere. UVB can only
cause damage to the epidermal layers as it cannot perpetrate beyond the superficial skin layers. UVB
is responsible chiefly for skins reddening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the sunburn protection increases by increasing the SPF value. There is a misconception stating that
SPF is related to time of solar exposure not to the amount which is not true. Although solar energy
amount and solar exposure time are related, other factors impact the amount as an example the
intensity. (A 9:00a.m one hour exposure is equal to 1:00 p.m. 15 minutes exposure). In general, more
frequent reapplication is associated with decreased absorption of solar radiation and more protection.
So SPF is a relative measure of the amount of sunburn protection provided by sunscreens. It isn t a
reflection of time.
Sunscreen history and timeline:
It all started with the ancient civilizations used plant products to protect themselves from the sun
damage. Ancient Romans used olive oil while ancient Egyptians used extracts of jasmine and rice
plants that are still used in some products today. Zinc oxide creams have always been popular for
thousands of years but it was an opaque paste that left an unacceptable appearance in the skin which
led to the decrease in its use. It was popularly used as a sunburn preventative.

Summary Of Goldman Sach s Stock Price
Goldman Sach s stock price decreased $9.73 from $239.45 as of December 31, 2016 to $229.72 as of
March 31, 2017. This 4% decrease can be primarily attributed to the Republican Party s failure to pass
a replacement to the Affordable Care Act. The company s stock price performance over the quarter
justifies this assertion. Goldman s stock price closed above its December 31, 2017 price for eight
straight days to kick off 2017. Following the strong start to the new fiscal year, the stock stalled in
anticipation of the company s 2016 results. However, the decline in price was temporary as the
company announced strong fourth quarter results. Highlights included better than expected
performance in respect to both revenue and earnings. Consequently,

She was well cultured and was able to apply this to her role of a politician s wife with great attributes

school it did not put her out of reach of a proper education (Peterson, 9). Abigail Adams learned how
to read and write at home by her father, mother, and maternal grandmother, whom she adored. Her
mother contributed to most of her education along with her sisters, during their younger years.
Because her mother had a limited amount of education, Abigail taught herself to read (Holton, 6).
When Abigail learned to read she couldn t stop reading. Her father had many books at home that he

However, Abigail did not have frivolous taste in books. The books that she liked the most were

herself different languages (Holton, 6). She also enjoyed writing letters to friends and family that lived

The Importance Of Physical Fitness For College Athletes
Physical fitness is vital for many college athletes. Things like muscle strength, muscular endurance,
anaerobic, and aerobic power are crucial to success of the athlete s performance. The vital physical
fitness of the athletes is to increase training sessions before the season and during season. Some of
these training session that college athletes participate in can lead to an increase in stress on certain
muscles. These muscles weaken over time due to the athlete not giving a proper time to recover from
training and playing. The most common injury for athletes are knee injuries. Some of the most
common, but are not limited to, include ACL, MCL, patellofemoral pain, and strains. Knee braces are
the most common way of helping reduce knee pain and prevent any further damage to the joint.
Though helpful knee braces can sometimes be uncomfortable, are not always supportive enough, and
are bulky. Due to these inconveniences, many athletes are turning to other alternative like Kinesio tape
(K tape). Kinesio tape has been used for many years and has helped many famous athletes like Kerri
Walsh Jennings, James Harden with their pain. Now it is more common for athletes in high schools
and colleges to use Kinesio tape because of its effectiveness and easy application and removal.
Kinesio tape and knee braces have been under debate recently on which one would be more effective
to use during physical activity.

Coco and her children, their attempts at accessing different services, and the obvious gaps present in

Short Story Of The Little Mermaid
Ever since Prince Eric severely stabbed Ursula with his ship, everyone thought she died. However, he
managed to summon enough energy to return to her lair and leave Atlantica. Since she was so sickly,
she needed a new henchman to help her become who she was before. Or in this case, a henchwoman;
me.
Let me explain how this all began. I met Ursula on my trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She wanted to
set up a new lair somewhere unknown and away from Triton s rule, and decided on Mexico since his
Empire was near the European seas. My family went to a tourist attraction where underwater caves
lead to a hidden beach. I usually like to pick up shells from beaches I visit, so I brought some gear to
find some treasures. While underwater, I found a shell, glowing like the sun, and as large as my hand.
Finally! Someone found my shell. I was starting to wonder if humans were stupid... a voice muttered
quietly. I looked around confused, thinking someone was nearby.
This isn t your ordinary shell, but that s not important right now, the voice said, My name is Ursula. I
need your help, and I think you d like my offer.
Ursula? Like from The Little Mermaid? I replied.
Ugh, that horrid film. That movie doesn t explain everything, but yes Ursula sighed.
Long story short, Ursula needed help gaining her full powers back after her brawl with Prince Eric and
Ariel. I agreed to aid her after she explained that as a girl she was shunned from the mermaid society

Metamorphosis And Dantes Inferno Comparison
In The Metamorphosis you have a man who turns into a bug and in Dante s Inferno you have a man
sending people to nine different levels of hell, but someway they relate to each other in many ways.
Sympathy is what makes these two books so similar. The author makes the reader feel sympathy for
the character but the author himself has no sympathy for the character. The Metamorphosis and Dante
s Inferno have the author developing the story so the characters have sympathy towards each other but
the author has no sympathy towards the characters. First lets show how this happened in The
Metamorphosis. The lack of sympathy the author had for Gregor was amazing. He went through a

He is now classified as a bug in an empty room.
In Dante s Inferno as the reader we can see that the author the author has no sympathy towards either
of the characters similar to how the author from The Metamorphosis had no sympathy for Gregor.
Throughout the whole story the author is showing how two people who have fallen in love with each
other were sent to hell as a single person. This is shown in the book when dante says Love led us to
one death. Everyone knows that this is not possible but it is showing how neither of them are their
own person because they based their lives on one another. When the author did this he showed how
much he didn t care. He had no sympathy for those characters at all. Once the characters were in hell
they were stripped of their identities and had no more loe for each other. To add on to these lovers
being in hell they have not committed a sin to be there. That is another reason that the reader can think
of why the author is so unsympathetic towards the characters. Before we saw how the author viewed

fact that occasionally it might take long a long time to process. The initial step of enrolling is securing
a name for the organization. This name must be novel and unique and can t be anything that is as of
now being used by some other organization.
Once the name of the organization has been dealt with, the business should present a few records
including the Articles of Association alongside other organization deed reports. These alongside the
enlistment application shape should be authenticated and submitted to the Ministry of Law and
Human rights from where the endorsement should be taken from.
Business License: Any kind of business in Oman needs to get a business permit so as to legitimately
work in the nation. The sort of business one requires fluctuates in light of the kind of business
exercises they are taking part in. For example, a business in the exchanging business would require an

I M THE MOST TERRIFIC LIAR you ever saw in your life.

This story is told in the first person point of view. The author chose the story to be first person to build
a connection with the reader, and to tell stories from their own perspective, since they are more
reliable than being told by someone else. First person also allows the reader to create a relationship

shaping the world economy, accounting for a third of the increase in the world s gross domestic

of 1.3 billion inhabitants, consuming a variety of goods from food items to luxury commodities, toys,

Growth of the Automobile Industry in India
The automobile industry is the fastest growing sector in India. Growth in consumption patterns has
encouraged tremendous improvement in manufacturing sector and the auto industry has been growing
at a rapid pace recording over 2.06 million four wheelers (passenger cars, light, medium and heavy
commercial vehicles, multi utility vehicles such as jeeps), and over 9 million two and three wheelers
(scooters, motorcycles, mopeds, and three wheelers) in 2006 07. (SBH India, 2008)
It was this promising outlook for Indian auto industry that forced Fiat into a collaboration with Tata
Corporation India in 2007. However within few months, troubles were reported and by 2010, it was
officially considered an unfortunate venture since Fiat was losing in terms of sales and profits so
rapidly that it made Fiat and Tata rethink their Joint venture. In 2011, the two companies decide to
reorganize their distribution channels to allow separate distribution facilities.
Fiat Motors had initially planned to sell through Tata dealers but the channel tie up did not prove
profitable as evidenced by sagging sales and in 2011 it was decided that separate dealerships might
work better.
The joint venture agreement with Tata Motors stands. We are altering our marketing strategy. We have
identified 20 cities where Fiat cars will now be sold separately and independently, said Ranjeev

The Hobbit By J. R. Tolkien
People like stories that contain much action and adventure. Such stories are real exciting and fun to
read. The Hobbit By J. R. Tolkien is able to convey a great story through its characters, thematic
elements, and literary features. There is something however, that is able to have a major effect on a
story. That is supernatural events. These events are something within a story that the common
audience would not firstly expect to occur. It is of these happenings that make a story that little more
interesting and fun to read, as these events are able to change a story majorly. Supernatural events are
able to be associated with numerous things in stories. Such events that are out of the ordinary are to
leave readers in wonder why it happened. Also, how such event occurred can be of question too. In
The Hobbit, there is a character who is a prime cause of some of the supernatural events that occur in
the story. That character is Gandalf, a friendly wizard who s magic powers is able to help the dwarves.
In Chapter 6 of the Hobbit, there was a disturbance in the Misty Mountains forest area. This area is
usually peaceful. What is this uproar in the forest tonight? Said the lord of eagles (Tolkien, 96).
Surely, something awry was likely to occur. And of course, the suspicions of something going on in

The Ethics Of The Bhopal Disaster
In the Business Ethics Foundation Terms class (September 2nd 2014), we discussed the ethical
implications of the Bhopal disaster on December 2nd and 3rd, 1983. A plant that belonged to Union
Carbide subsidiary had a chemical explosion, killing 10,000 lives (conservatively) and affecting the
livelihood of local and their descendants. Although many reasons have been offered up to try to
explain this disaster such as the poor establishment of the manufacturing plant, less stringent labor
laws, non exist environment laws, as well as the negligence in educating the public and medical
facilities in Bhopal about the fatality of the pesticide. It is my opinion that the government should also
have placed strict boundary rules to limit populations moving into the possible disaster zone. The
government of India s negligence lies in one or both of the following: not assessing the risk of
building a manufacturing plant close to a populated city, ignoring the assessed risk inherent in the
chemicals being manufactured, and jeopardizing the environment and population of Bhopal. This is
not to say that the Union Carbide and its subsidiary were blameless, however the Government of India
s lack of responsibility for its citizens can be proved when they underrepresented the victims in the
UCC s settlement actions in 1989. Due to these reasons, I will argue in the following paragraphs that
the Government of India has more responsibility than Union Carbide in not only the tragedy but also

Gesture To Understand The Relationship Between Language...
Why people use gesture when they speak? People use gestures when they talk, but is this behavior
learned from watching others move their hands when talking. When speaker talk, they gesture. The
goal of this article is to understand the contribution that these gestures make to how we communicate
and think. Gesture can play a role in communication and thought at many timespans. I explore, in turn,
gesture s contribution to how language is produced and understood in the moment; its contribution to
how we learn language and other cognitive skills. I find that the gestures speakers produce when they
talk are integral to communication and can be harnessed in a number of ways. Gesture provides
building blocks that can be used to construct a language. By watching how children and adults who do

A signal for yes in one culture may mean no in another; a gesture for good bye in one culture can be
interpreted as come here in another.
Body language includes all the communication through the non verbal channel. This can include how
we greet others, how we sit or stand, our facial expressions, our clothes, hair styles, tone of voice, eye
movements, how we listen, how we breathe, how close we stand to others, and how we touch others.
This article will use the terms body language and nonverbal communication, gestures. I have my own
opinion that everyone talks with their hands at least sometimes. Some people s hand talking or
gesturing matches their message well. Other people have a tendency to make overly large gestures that
can be distracting. And still others don t use their hands much at all. No matter which camp you fall
into it s important to pay attention to your hand gestures while you are communicating or making a
presentation. Many gestures are universal across cultures and geographies. Here are some

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Highest Death Rate
Abstract Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also known as SIDS, is the leading cause of death in
children under the age of one (Kaneshiro Zieve, 2009). There is no underlying cause that an infant is
at risk of SIDS, but there are many theories being tested to help determine if a child may be at risk.
Many doctors and researchers now believe that SIDS is not a single condition that is always caused by
the same medical problems, but infant death caused by several different factors (Kaneshiro Zieve,
2009). Along with the research being done to determine risk factors for SIDS, there are other studies
being conducted to help in the prevention of SIDS. This will possibly allow families and medical
professionals to spot warning sign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the triple risk model it suggests that three different factors or events can lead to SIDS: The first
element of the model is the critical development period, where the baby is growing and developing
rapidly. A rapid growth can make a baby s system unstable. This defect possibly will be located in the
brainstem, which is to blame for heart rate, respiratory controls and overall body regulatory
mechanisms (Firstcandle, 2010). The second element, the vulnerable infant, represents an infant with
this underlying abnormality in an area of their brain stem that controls respiration, heart rate,
temperature, arousal from sleep and other major bodily functions during early life (Firstcandle, 2010) .
The third and last element involves outside or environmental challenges, which a normal baby can
easily overcome, but a baby already vulnerable might not. Challenges such as tobacco exposure,
tummy sleeping, soft bedding, bed sharing or an upper respiratory infection alone do not cause death
for healthy infants, but could trigger a sudden, unexpected death in a vulnerable infant (Firstcandle,
2010). According to the triple risk model, an infant will die of SIDS only if he or she possesses all
three factors described above (Firstcandle, 2010) . Although SIDS cannot always be prevented, there
are a few precautions that may reduce the risk of SIDS. Most of these precautions are easy to
implement and just might

Proteus Research Paper
In 1885, a German pathologist and bacteriologist name Gustav Hauser was credit for discovering the
genus Proteus. He also discovered and named its three species Proteus vulgaris, Proteus mirabilis and
Proteus zenkeri. Hauser was born in July 1856 in the town of Nordlingen, Germany. In the University
of Nuremberg in Bavaria, he became an assistant to Friedrich A. Zenker in the pathology department.
Friedrich A. Zenker, a well known pathologist and physician, He was renowned for his discovery of

How can community health nurses apply the strategies of cultural competence to their

A nurse can be a part of helping a patient s cultural preservation in their practice. For
example, some people in the Jamaican culture hold nine day wakes for deceased persons.

is the religion that the majority of Jamaican s practice. Jamaica is known to have the most
churches per square mile than any other country ( ). A nurse can intervene for a Jamaican
client to ensure they receive culturally appropriate care by working with the health care
facility to coordinate care to allow for a Christian minister to come visit with the Jamaican

Barriers to applying cultural preservation, accommodation, repatterning, and brokering
include time, money, and health risk factors. The health care facility may not have the
means/money to allow for the tradition Jamaican wake for a deceased family member. The
use of traditional herbs may be a risk to health if they interact with medications the patient
is taking. A visit by a Christian minister may interfere with scheduled care such as diagnostic
testing or no visitation/rest time. A nurse is responsible for respecting and maintaining a
patients cultural preferences as much as possible. They must advocate for a patient s
cultural desires when possible.

barriers preventing them from being the person they dream of becoming. Whether it is selfishness,
laziness, or a physical disability, we must face them to overcome them. Moving to a new country and
being surrounded by shadows, there are many obstacles to face, many walls to be jumped. On the

university, the people who bullied him were gone, the wall he failed to jump over finally broke down.
He endured a childhood of emotional and physical bullying, and continued to face it everyday because

The Navy Of The Coast Guard
1. Today when looking at members of the Coast Guard there is very little difference in uniform to
distinguish the senior enlisted and Officer Corps from that of the Junior Enlisted Corps. The Coast
Guard believes that there is a distinct difference between a First Class Petty Officer and a Chief but
has gone away from making that difference easy to see from a distance. The Navy goes so far as to
change the entire color and style of their uniform as well as the change of the combination cover when
a member is advanced to the pay grade of E 7. This is due to the belief that the amount of
responsibility one takes on with this advancement warrants the clear delineation, one that can be seen
right away. Furthermore, even today when going through the Chiefs Call to Indoctrination process, all
Navy and Coast Guard Chiefs build a hat box solely for the purpose of housing their new combination
cover, a cover that in today s Coast Guard members have been wearing since boot camp. The Coast
Guard used to make the same uniform change as the Navy, and we have strayed from this tradition,
strayed at the cost of a loss of respect in this advancement. The Coast Guard should visibly distinguish
E 7 and above by making a change in the uniform regulations and making E 7 and above only
authorized to wear the combination cover. 2. All members of the Coast Guard, As per ref (a), pay for
and are issued a Combination Cover upon accession into the Service. This cover, especially for junior

Human Beings Possess A Distinct Consciousness
Feuerbach first says that since human beings have religion and animals don t, there must be something
that human beings possess that essentially differentiates them from animals. Human beings possess a
distinctive consciousness which he calls species consciousness that animals don t possess. In other
words, a man that possesses a species consciousness he is capable to take its own essential nature as
an object of thought. In addition, the human individual has the capacity of thought which means that
he can engage himself in an internal dialogue and thus the human individual stands a relation to his
species. When a human being is conscious of himself as a human, he is also conscious that he is a
being that is able to feel, to think and to will. In other words, the three mental faculties that Feuebarch
identifies as crucial in the development of Christian consciousness are reason, will and affection.
Furthermore, reason, will and affection are absolute perfections of the human. However, they are not
powers that human beings possess, they are rather constituent elements of his nature . For example,
those constituent of the human beings manifest themselves when an individual is moved by the
emotions expressed by music; when an individual feels the desire to gain knowledge; when the
conscience of an individual dictates him to moderate his desires in order to avoid limiting other s
freedom.
Moreover, the human individual recognizes himself as an intellectually, morally,

Data Partition Properties And Its Structure For Preparing...
Map/Reduce is a structure for preparing parallelizable issues crosswise over gigantic datasets utilizing
a substantial number of PCs (hubs), all things considered alluded to as a group i.e. if all hubs are on
the same local network and use the same hardware) or a framework i.e. if the hubs are shared
crosswise over geologically and authoritatively conveyed systems, and use a more heterogenous
hardware. Handling can happen on data saved either in a file system unstructured or in a database
organized. Map/Reduce can exploit domain of data, preparing it on or close to the storage resources
with a specific end goal to reduce the length over which it must be transmitted. Jiaxing et al. proposes
SUDO, an advancement system that reasons about data partition characteristics, working properties,
and data shuffling. They contend that reasoning about data partition properties crosswise phases opens
up chances to reduce extravagant data shuffling. For instance, in the event that we realize that data
partitions from past computation phases as of now have alluring properties for the following phase, we
have the method to stay away from superfluous data shuffling steps. The fundamental obstruction to
reasoning about data partition properties crosswise over processing phases is the utilization of UDFs
[4]. At the point when a UDF is viewed as a black box , which is typically the case, we must expect
conservatively that all data partition characteristics are lost subsequent to applying

Q3: How the 7 Eleven stores in Taiwan compare with their counterparts in the US? The first Taiwanese 7 Eleven store was launched by PCSC in 1980. As the local franchisee, PCSC kept the store logo and the core of convenience store concept that was well established in America. By contrast, other aspects of the store chain had been re formatted. For the layout, 7 Eleven in Taiwan had smaller average store area of 700 m2, only a quarter of that in the US. In terms of product offerings, despite providing basic daily use products as the US model, the Taiwanese 7 Eleven stores also served local common foods such as tea egg, luwei and biandang. Furthermore, innovative services were the distinctive traits of Taiwanese 7 Eleven. In spite of the high level of operations, PCSC also extended the concept of customer convenience to the information technology(IT). For example, 7 Eleven in Taiwan introduced e commerce (i Bon reserve train or opera tickets), e payment (i Cash), mobile communications (phone cards and the Internet) , pickup and delivery (books and auction items). Yellow journalism, more commonly defined as news that has been slightly altered in order to invoke emotion and response from its readers, became popular in the late 1890s. After the sinking of the U.S.S Maine, a United States Navy ship, Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst saw an opportunity to grow their own newspaper empire, specifically featuring yellow journalism in the headlines. Originally, President McKinley did not want to have a war with Spain, but with pressure from the public, he was forced into it. But, with the news of the Maine and Americans interest dramatically increasing, McKinley s doubts of going into war had become a reality; America declared war on the Spanish on April 25, 1898, just after they had declared war on the United States. Even in the war McKinley focused on the desire to maintain constant pressure on Spain in the hopes of facing an early end to the war and also hoped to end it quickly at the least possible expenditure of blood and treasure. As the war progressed and America began to win battles, the government and public were excited that the war would come to a close. Although gender allows our existence to flourish, females were and are still discriminated against. Similar to those people who experienced the dismantle of their culture and people, imperialism seeks people who are different. They observe the differences of language, culture, and even physical appearances. In Heart of Darkness and The Quiet American, the treatment of women and victims of imperialism are almost indistinguishable. Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene were both aware of the constraints women in the 19th and 20th century faced for simply being rational and intelligent. Women were objectified and a straightjacket of propriety, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The parallelism between female suppression and the conquest of the natives are functioning simultaneously in Conrad s novel. Women are too, those being victimized. They are similar to the natives who were objectified and perceived to be uncivilized and ultimately unable to handle responsibility. They are lied to, promised things, and bound by a traditional institution rather than love. Conrad, therefore acknowledges this misconstruction of gender equality, by becoming aware of its biasness. It is also argued that Conrad had racist tendencies in Heart of Darkness because he refrains from giving a voice to the Africans. He does this as well with women, refraining from much dialogue within the text several times. But does this truly make him a racist or a sexist, for that matter? Readers look at these examples as a cut and clear indication that Conrad had no regard for these groups of people, without a full examination of his intentions. I believe the evolution of Marlow as a character represents Conrad s true intention. Marlow right off the start of the novel can be seen as a sexist, maybe because of the lack of a female character in his life. He feels embarrassed that he has to go to his aunt for a job, but he does acknowledge her pull to get him an opportunity to travel the Congo. I believe Conrad was being satirical when he presented this view of Marlow on women. Marlow describes women as living, in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like ... In the United States, buying and selling products is so common that many underlying factors of what goes into the process go unnoticed, up until something goes wrong. As a consumer, you naturally expect that what you are buying is 100% safe, secure, and authentic because most of the time this is the case. The term also covers a failure of a statement or agreement by a seller of property which is a part of the contract of sale, when the truth of the statement is necessary to the validity of the contract (USLegal, 2007). Most express warranties are made in written statements, warning stickers, informational tags, etc. Although, an advertisement or a product sample that demonstrates how the product is properly used may also be used to make an express warranty claim (Rottenstein Law Group, 2010). Contrary to this, an implied warranty is not explicitly stated. Instead, an implied warranty is based on the reasonable expectations of the buyer. Despite these arguments, there are a number of sound arguments put forth by those who remain staunchly opposed to legalizing sports gambling in the U.S. One of the biggest reasons opponents of sports gambling are opposed to wagering on sporting events is because of the potential for sports gambling to result in fixed sporting events and ultimately undermining the integrity of professional and amateur sports in the U.S. As Thompson (2008) explains, sports gambling remains illegal and heavily regulated by the government because of the potential for events to be fixed, or illegally influenced (using bribes or other forms of compensation) (p. 2). It is not that difficult to see how this might happen, since numerous sports gambling scandals have occurred in the past. The 1919 World Series was fixed by Chicago White Sox players. Pete Rose was banned from baseball and denied admittance to the Baseball Hall of Fame because of his admission to gambling on sporting events while he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cezanne applied his paint in thick layers with broad, discrete, and methodical brushstrokes, remaining true to the architectural ideal that every portion of the canvas must contribute to the structural integrity of the painting. With each brushstroke, Cezanne was constructing a picture as apposed to painting it (Paul Cézanne Biography). In contrast, Monet used a single color, applying it, using a bold, flat and evenly loaded brush. This technique is called tache, a French word for blot. This technique moved paintings away from the blending of colors on the canvas, and led to the application of different colors to represent the ripples across water and how the light falls on the subject, as seen in Monet s painting On the Bank of the Seine ( Brushwork ). Alternatively, Thomas Cole came from the Hudson River School where he learned to render crisply defined forms in paint. He avoided painterly flourishes that called attention to his techniques. The scene highlights the fact that every single thing in the film will be seen through that particular window. Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window is a great example of first rate camerawork. The camera is used as the narrator and probably plays the biggest role within the film. At the start of the film, the camera is used to pan around every single apartment within the inner city New York apartment block to introduce the characters. Although the characters do not speak, they still play a major role in the film. Alfred Hitchcock puts the viewers in the position of L.B Jeffries, making us all voyeurs. However, person with depth knowledge of internet protocol specifications and network secrets can launch low effort squeeze attacks that are difficult to detect and counter. In these attacks, the adversary is active only for a short period of time, selectively targeting messages of high importance. We illustrate the advantages of selective squeeze in terms of network performance degradation and adversary effort by presenting two case studies; a selective attack on TCP and one on routing. In this work, we address the problem of selective squeeze attacks in wireless networks. Over the past 27 years, China s annual GDP growth has averaged 9.4 per cent, more than doubled that of the world as well as more than two folds that of the developed nations over the same period. In 2004, China s GDP reached USD1650billion, an increase of 9.5 per cent over 2003.(The Embassy of the People s Republic of China in Australia, June 2005) Last year Australia imported $287.8 billion in goods from China, up from $51.5 billion a decade ago, according to the Australian Commerce Department (Asia Education, The University of Melbourne 2005). Although Australia is importing its many goods from china and reducing the cost, Australia also have to consider the unemployment rate and safety issues with these imported goods from Asia. China is one of the biggest countries along with Thailand and Japan who make goods for Australia. Being Australia s third largest merchandise trading partner and seventh largest service export market in 2003, China might significantly affect the Australian economy through any changes made to its trade policies. Growth in consumption patterns has encouraged tremendous improvement in manufacturing sector and the auto industry has been growing at a rapid pace recording over 2.06 million four wheelers (passenger cars, light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, multi utility vehicles such as jeeps), and over 9 million two and three wheelers (scooters, motorcycles, mopeds, and three wheelers) in 2006 07. (SBH India, 2008) It was this promising outlook for Indian auto industry that forced Fiat into a collaboration with Tata Corporation India in 2007. However within few months, troubles were reported and by 2010, it was officially considered an unfortunate venture since Fiat was losing in terms of sales and profits so rapidly that it made Fiat and Tata rethink their Joint venture. In 2011, the two companies decide to reorganize their distribution channels to allow separate distribution facilities. Fiat Motors had initially planned to sell through Tata dealers but the channel tie up did not prove profitable as evidenced by sagging sales and in 2011 it was decided that separate dealerships might work better. The joint venture agreement with Tata Motors stands. We are altering our marketing strategy. We have identified 20 cities where Fiat cars will now be sold separately and independently, said Ranjeev Kapoor, CEO of Tata India. Tolkien is able to convey a great story through its characters, thematic elements, and literary features. There is something however, that is able to have a major effect on a story. That is supernatural events. These events are something within a story that the common audience would not firstly expect to occur. It is of these happenings that make a story that little more interesting and fun to read, as these events are able to change a story majorly. Supernatural events are able to be associated with numerous things in stories. Such events that are out of the ordinary are to leave readers in wonder why it happened. Also, how such event occurred can be of question too. In The Hobbit, there is a character who is a prime cause of some of the supernatural events that occur in the story. That character is Gandalf, a friendly wizard who s magic powers is able to help the dwarves. In Chapter 6 of the Hobbit, there was a disturbance in the Misty Mountains forest area. This area is usually peaceful. What is this uproar in the forest tonight? Said the lord of eagles (Tolkien, 96). Surely, something awry was likely to occur. And of course, the suspicions of something going on in the area were correct. The goblins then encircled all the dwarves and the forest caught fire. All except Gandalf were trapped. • 40. The Ethics Of The Bhopal Disaster In the Business Ethics Foundation Terms class (September 2nd 2014), we discussed the ethical implications of the Bhopal disaster on December 2nd and 3rd, 1983. A plant that belonged to Union Carbide subsidiary had a chemical explosion, killing 10,000 lives (conservatively) and affecting the livelihood of local and their descendants. Although many reasons have been offered up to try to explain this disaster such as the poor establishment of the manufacturing plant, less stringent labor laws, non exist environment laws, as well as the negligence in educating the public and medical facilities in Bhopal about the fatality of the pesticide. It is my opinion that the government should also have placed strict boundary rules to limit populations moving into the possible disaster zone. The government of India s negligence lies in one or both of the following: not assessing the risk of building a manufacturing plant close to a populated city, ignoring the assessed risk inherent in the chemicals being manufactured, and jeopardizing the environment and population of Bhopal. This is not to say that the Union Carbide and its subsidiary were blameless, however the Government of India s lack of responsibility for its citizens can be proved when they underrepresented the victims in the UCC s settlement actions in 1989. Due to these reasons, I will argue in the following paragraphs that the Government of India has more responsibility than Union Carbide in not only the tragedy but also for ... Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Highest Death Rate Abstract Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also known as SIDS, is the leading cause of death in children under the age of one (Kaneshiro Zieve, 2009). There is no underlying cause that an infant is at risk of SIDS, but there are many theories being tested to help determine if a child may be at risk. Many doctors and researchers now believe that SIDS is not a single condition that is always caused by the same medical problems, but infant death caused by several different factors (Kaneshiro Zieve, 2009). In the triple risk model it suggests that three different factors or events can lead to SIDS: The first element of the model is the critical development period, where the baby is growing and developing rapidly. A rapid growth can make a baby s system unstable. This defect possibly will be located in the brainstem, which is to blame for heart rate, respiratory controls and overall body regulatory mechanisms (Firstcandle, 2010). The second element, the vulnerable infant, represents an infant with this underlying abnormality in an area of their brain stem that controls respiration, heart rate, temperature, arousal from sleep and other major bodily functions during early life (Firstcandle, 2010) . The third and last element involves outside or environmental challenges, which a normal baby can easily overcome, but a baby already vulnerable might not. Challenges such as tobacco exposure, tummy sleeping, soft bedding, bed sharing or an upper respiratory infection alone do not cause death for healthy infants, but could trigger a sudden, unexpected death in a vulnerable infant (Firstcandle, 2010). According to the triple risk model, an infant will die of SIDS only if he or she possesses all three factors described above (Firstcandle, 2010) . Although SIDS cannot always be prevented, there are a few precautions that may reduce the risk of SIDS. Most of these precautions are easy to implement and just might ... • 48. The Navy Of The Coast Guard 1. Today when looking at members of the Coast Guard there is very little difference in uniform to distinguish the senior enlisted and Officer Corps from that of the Junior Enlisted Corps. The Coast Guard believes that there is a distinct difference between a First Class Petty Officer and a Chief but has gone away from making that difference easy to see from a distance. The Navy goes so far as to change the entire color and style of their uniform as well as the change of the combination cover when a member is advanced to the pay grade of E 7. This is due to the belief that the amount of responsibility one takes on with this advancement warrants the clear delineation, one that can be seen right away. Furthermore, even today when going through the Chiefs Call to Indoctrination process, all Navy and Coast Guard Chiefs build a hat box solely for the purpose of housing their new combination cover, a cover that in today s Coast Guard members have been wearing since boot camp. The Coast Guard used to make the same uniform change as the Navy, and we have strayed from this tradition, strayed at the cost of a loss of respect in this advancement. The Coast Guard should visibly distinguish E 7 and above by making a change in the uniform regulations and making E 7 and above only authorized to wear the combination cover. 2. • 49. Human Beings Possess A Distinct Consciousness Feuerbach first says that since human beings have religion and animals don t, there must be something that human beings possess that essentially differentiates them from animals. Human beings possess a distinctive consciousness which he calls species consciousness that animals don t possess. In other words, a man that possesses a species consciousness he is capable to take its own essential nature as an object of thought. In addition, the human individual has the capacity of thought which means that he can engage himself in an internal dialogue and thus the human individual stands a relation to his species. When a human being is conscious of himself as a human, he is also conscious that he is a being that is able to feel, to think and to will. In other words, the three mental faculties that Feuebarch identifies as crucial in the development of Christian consciousness are reason, will and affection. Furthermore, reason, will and affection are absolute perfections of the human. However, they are not powers that human beings possess, they are rather constituent elements of his nature . For example, those constituent of the human beings manifest themselves when an individual is moved by the emotions expressed by music; when an individual feels the desire to gain knowledge; when the conscience of an individual dictates him to moderate his desires in order to avoid limiting other s freedom. Map/Reduce is a structure for preparing parallelizable issues crosswise over gigantic datasets utilizing a substantial number of PCs (hubs), all things considered alluded to as a group i.e. if all hubs are on the same local network and use the same hardware) or a framework i.e. if the hubs are shared crosswise over geologically and authoritatively conveyed systems, and use a more heterogenous hardware. Handling can happen on data saved either in a file system unstructured or in a database organized. Map/Reduce can exploit domain of data, preparing it on or close to the storage resources with a specific end goal to reduce the length over which it must be transmitted. Jiaxing et al. proposes SUDO, an advancement system that reasons about data partition characteristics, working properties, and data shuffling. They contend that reasoning about data partition properties crosswise phases opens up chances to reduce extravagant data shuffling. For instance, in the event that we realize that data partitions from past computation phases as of now have alluring properties for the following phase, we have the method to stay away from superfluous data shuffling steps. The fundamental obstruction to reasoning about data partition properties crosswise over processing phases is the utilization of UDFs [4].
