I. Tentative Title The Relationship of Branding to the Opportunities in Financial Support for Arts
Centres in Singapore
II. Introduction
Singapore is a thriving port for businesses and its arts sector is more dynamic now than ever before,
with arts organisations enjoying various degrees of success in the consumer market, as well as in
markets for sponsorship and donations, and government support. Even though the three main sources
of revenue may have come to an end, the number of arts organisations competing for financial support
is continuously rising. In view of marketing, one could say that the life cycle of the arts sector has not
only reached maturity, but is saturated; where supply exceeds demand by a wide margin (Colbert ...

The study will analyse three arts centres in Singapore, namely The Substation, Esplanade, and
Goodman Arts Centre.
III. Proposed Thesis Statement Research Questions
The proposed study hypothesises that the role of branding can affect the financial strength of the arts
centres in Singapore. The study seeks to prove that there is relationship between the role of branding
and the opportunities in financial support for the growing number of arts centres in Singapore.
Financial support for the arts centres are likely to increase if branding strategy with careful
consideration is adopted. Through a review of recent literature covering the role of marketing (and
branding) in affecting the artistic products and arts organisations, the proposed study explores the
connection between the arts centres financial strength and their brands constructed therein. With
particular emphasis on three arts centres in Singapore, namely The Substation, The Esplanade, and
Goodman Arts Centre, five research questions are included to support the thesis. The initial
investigation of the proposed study will attempt to 1) What is branding and its relationship with the
arts in Singapore?; 2) What are the identified arts centres in Singapore?; 3) Do brand extension
strategies for conventional goods and services succeed in the case of arts centres in Singapore? 4)

Analysis Of We Were Soldiers
Rachel Smith We Were Soldiers Film Analysis The film We Were Soldiers depicts the 1965 Battle of
Ia Drang in Vietnam. The film follows Lt. Col. Harold Moore and his men as they are send to fight at
the first major American battle in Vietnam. The film also shows the impact this battle had on the home
front and showed how the war impacted the soldier s wives waiting at home. The dramatization
attempts to show how the Americans were introduced to the Vietnam War and how they fought
viciously against an elusive, dedicated enemy. Director Randall Wallace uses the film to point out
characteristics of the Vietnam War. One thing he tries to focus on is that fact that the United States did
not realize the magnitude of the fight they were about to join. When they are first dropped in to the Ia
Drang valley they capture the NVA lookout and ask him where his men are. They are shocked to learn
that there are 4,000 NVA soldiers waiting for them in the mountains. The lookout also tells them that,
It s same army that destroyed French. They want to kill Americans very badly... but they have not been
able to find any yet. This quote shows that the NVAArmy has been fighting for much longer and are
more invested in the fight than the Americans were, something that was not clear to the original
American troops. There are also specific characteristic that the film tried to point out about Americas
war in Vietnam. One thing he tried to show is how young the troopers were. The film

Analysis of Lopez vs. Gonzales Court Case Essay
Even before the Declaration of Independence was written, the United States was always a country
where people journey upon to seek a better life to the land of the free in order to find a life style on the
idea life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Since immigration is recognized as one of the largest
dilemmas of homeland security, people value their safety, disregarding the fact that the United States
was born from immigrants. However, this does not mean that immigrants do not have to obey the law;
it is an obligation or else consequences will arise. Because the United States is a democratic nation, it
trusts the people of the country to assist in the making and carrying out laws. When people do commit

The judge ordered Lopez removed in light of 8 U. S. C. §1229b(a)(3), which provides that the
Attorney General s discretion to cancel the removal of a person otherwise deportable does not reach a
convict of an aggravated felony. (FindLaw) The Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) confirmed and
the Eighth Circuit acknowledged the BIA. He was released for good conduct after 15 months
imprisonment.
The United States Supreme Court constituted a felony punishable under the CSA only if it proscribed
conduct punishable as felony under the CSA, as quote by quote ordinarily trafficking meant
commercial dealing, reading would render the law of alien removal, and sentencing for illegal entry
into the country. (FindLaw)
The Immigration and Naturalization Services pursued to deport the individual on two grounds: first
being, his commission of the aggravated felony and the second, his conviction of the offense involving
a controlled substance. Because Lopez was a permanent resident of South Dakota, he was qualified to
apply to the Attorney General for his cancellation of the deportation. The court denied his application
for cancellation of his deportation order, since the Immigration and Naturalization center forbids the
Attorney General from cancelling

Analysis Of The Cohen Brother s Film True Grit
It is always a challenge for filmmakers to take a beloved character from literature and bring him or her
to life. There is not enough time to do an adequate amount of characterization, which is why many
films fail to accurately portray a character. The Cohen Brother s film True Grit, an adaptation of the
novel by Charles Portis, created a better portrayal of the character of Mattie Ross, the feisty, head
strong, and tough young girl. Through costume and set design, as well as the narrative choices the
directors chose to take, the resilient, no nonsense, bratty young girl was brought to life.
In the book, Mattie Ross is a very feisty, head strong, and tough young girl. Mattie does not let her age
get in the way of anything she sets off to do and is never afraid to give some lip when needed. These
characteristics are shown in the novel in scenes like her first introduction with LaBoeuf. He threatens
to hit her with his belt and she replies, Put a hand on me and you will answer for it...the good people
of Arkansas do not go easy on men who abuse women and children (76) . She is a 14 year old girl
standing up for herself against a grown man, which is something most adults can struggle with. This
scene is an example that gives the readers a look into who Mattie is as a person, which the Cohen
brothers did a very good job of capturing. In the Cohen Brother s version mise en scene was used so
effectively that it was like the Mattie in the book was on screen. The costume

Power Of Words In Othello
In Othello words have the ability to steer the plot, to form characters identities and to engage the
audience as active participants in the play.
In Shakespeare s Othello, the lack of a narrator, empowers the words spoken by the characters to such
an extent that it directs the drama to the desired destination of the play. This essay will serve as proof
as the power of words will be discussed by, firstly, explaining the effect that words, and the lack
thereof, have on characters and ultimately on the plot. Thereafter, the use of certain words to form
perceived impressions of characters will be argued. Lastly, an elaboration on how words are used to
involve the audience in the play.
Words can have a positive or negative effect on characters (Kaleba Osherow, 2012), it can lead to a
character being confident or lead to the deterioration of a character s self concept (as seen in the case
of Othello). We see this in the first act when Othello does not hide from confrontation, but instead
invites Brabanzio to come. Not I. I must be found. My parts, my title, and my perfect soul shall
manifest me rightly. (Shakespeare, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The limited allowances in terms of knowledge and outspokenness of women, in this play creates a
sense of dramatic irony as the audience awaits Emilia to reveal her participation in Iago s plan (Kaleba
Osherow, 2012). In Othello all can be avoided if Emilia had known what Iago s plan is and not only
obeying him blindly as expected from a good wife (Levine, 1987). In this case, Emilia s ignorance
leaves her powerless to prevent the death of her mistress, but words empower her when she speaks out
and tells the truth. Iago s manipulative words play on Othello s insecurities, and keeps Emilia loyal
and obedient, this drives the plot to the ending of Othello, Desdemona and Emilia s

Brigham Young University Application Requirements
Certain application requirements for Brigham Young University are unique. The basic application
includes standard parts, such as educational history, but ethnicity and religious affiliation is
mandatory. An ecclesiastical endorsement from a church official is required on all student
applications. Applicants must agree to follow BYU s exclusive Honor Code and Dress and Grooming
Standards. Then, applicants must meet with local church leaders, which includes a bishop and a stake
presidency member. Non LDS applicants are allowed to meet with any upper level LDS leader to
receive the ecclesiastical endorsement. LDS applicants must show proof of successfully completing
four years of seminary, which are daily religious classes attended during high school.
Brigham Young University s admission review process is very comprehensive. First, they consider the
ecclesiastical endorsement because adherence to the Honor Code and the Dress and Grooming
Standards is of absolute importance.
Next, they review the student s academic record and external accomplishments.

Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride
Taylor Lane Colyer
Dr. Cossar
Final Paper
April 11, 2017
Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride
Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have some
form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story is told.
Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they are
watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The
Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative the
film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this
particular film because of past genre and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also action/adventure elements with the fire swamp and the pit of despair. These different
genres are what draw in such a diverse crowd. Genre theorist Rick Altman states how genre
classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts, before they
watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of the genre (Altman:
1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of genres when they watch this
film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains, Wizards, True love. Not just your
basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse
crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not everybody likes story s about true love and not
everybody likes story s about wizards and giants, so why not put them all together. I know several
older men who love this film and I also know several young women my age who love this film just as
much. The great thing about this film in particular is that the audience might think they have a pre
determined answer as to what will happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the
audience to question themselves and form hypotheses.
Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill in.
Seeking order and coherence, we instinctively make hypotheses about what is going to happen (and

Action-Based Discretization for AI Search
Action Based Discretization for AI Search
Dr. Todd W. Neller*
Department of Computer Science Gettysburg College Campus Box 402 Gettysburg, PA 17325 1486
Introduction As computer gaming reaches ever greater heights in realism, we can expect the
complexity of simulated dynamics to reach further as well. To populate such gaming environments
with agents that behave intelligently, there must be some means of reasoning about the consequences
of agent actions. Such ability to seek out the ramifications of various possible action sequences,
commonly called lookahead , is found in programs that play chess, but there are special challenges
that face game programmers who wish to apply AI search techniques to complex continuous
dynamical systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, we compare three different means of action parameter discretization, including a dispersion
technique that generates an approximate uniform sampling of closed action spaces. Action Based
Discretization Artificial Intelligence search algorithms search discrete systems, yet we live and reason
in a continuous world. Continuous systems must first be discretized, i.e. approximated as discrete
systems, to apply such algorithms. There are two common ways that continuous search problems are
discretized: state based discretization and action based discretization. Statebased discretization
becomes infeasible when the state space is highly dimensional. Actionbased discretization becomes
infeasible when there are too many degrees of freedom. Interestingly, biological high degree of
freedom systems are often governed by a much smaller collection of motion primitives [Mataric,
2000]. We focus here on action based discretization. Action based discretization consists of two parts:
(1) action parameter discretization and (2) action timing discretization, i.e. how and when to act. See
Figure 1. The most popular form of discretization is uniform discretization. It is common to sample
possible actions and action timings at fixed intervals. For the following algorithms, we focus on action
timing discretization. Experimental evidence of this paper and previous studies [Neller, 2000] suggests
that a fixed

The Importance Of Being Accepted When Coming Out As A Gay...
The Importance of Being Accepted When coming out as a gay individual, there is a desire to be loved
and accepted for who they are by the family. When parents reject their child s sexual orientation it
often comes to kicking the child out of their home out of shame for their sexuality. In recent statistics,
Studies indicate that between 25% and 50% of homeless youth are LGBT and on the streets because
of their sexual orientation or gender identity (Pflagnyc, Statistics You Should Know About Gay and
Transgender Students). LGBT youth s also have an increased chance of living in an abusive household
with older parents due to a contrast of two different generations. The young generation of today is
more susceptible to accepting LGBT members because it is a more liberal time period. However, the
older generations are most likely to shun them due to biblical or principals that they grew up with. The
more accepting parents are of things they cannot change, the happier the child often is after coming
out to them. Homelessness has become an issue in recent years as more teens are starting to come out
to their parents, who have lived in the previous generation. Religion has played a key part in the
rejection of LGBT youth s due to its blunt statements like, Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with
womankind: it is abomination (Bible 98). Older generations examine and follow the bible more
closely than the newest generation and take certain verses to heart. Because they read that

human trafficking Essay
human trafficking issues:
the article starts out with a clear emphasis on the cooperation between the different segments of
society; cooperation between the state, civil society , and religious groups and institutions on the
issues of human trafficking and prostitution, stating how they are immoral, illegal, unethical and how
they should be considered as a taboo by societies in Europe, especially Cyprus since the exploitation
of women has been rapidly increasing recently. Where all the 800bars and 70 cabarets take advantage

Another solution was the campaigning proposal, where protectors of human rights helped increase
public awareness of exactly what is going on and to what extent women are exploited. the article was
completely pro the abolishment of trafficking and prostitution practices and there were no arguments
or debates in defense of the practices taking place in society.
There are a number of measures that should be undertaken by society for the improvement of the
existing situation before it gets any worse, making it harder to fix later on, which would lead to a
degraded corrupted society in the possible near future. as the article mentioned, churches should be a
big part in the process of helping the exploited woman with the trauma their jobs brought to them.
Also, the public should be made clearly aware of the situation, and all the details included in the issue
of prostitution and how traffickers force it upon their employees.
Also, more patrollers should be made available to try and control the situation by arresting traffickers,
which may also scare off other traffickers involved in similar situations. These among many other
solutions deal with the short term perspective of these issues, but more extreme issues should be taken
into deep consideration for the general prevalence of such isuues to be significantly reduced in the

Lord Of The Flies Identity Quotes
This mask depicts Jack s identity from the book Lord of the Flies. Starting from the bottom of the
mask, there is a quote from Jack which is one of the last things he says before leaving Ralph s group: I
m not going to play any longer. Not with you . This quote is significant to Jack because not only does
it show the end of the impact on Jack that the tamed and edified society Ralph has developed, it shows
how childish he is. Before Jack says this, he puts Ralph s conch on the grass in front of him and cries.
His tears are described as humiliating , which shows how he is unfit to be a good ruler because he is
leaving Ralph s civilization and crying about it because it is not run the way he wants to be run. He

Jack ideas connect to anarchy because he is the first person to openly speak out and take action against
the way that Ralph s civilization was run. To the left and right of the anarchy symbol are the words
The beast and Fear . These are symbolic to Jack and how he is able to keep power and influence on the
boys after he starts his own civilization. Jack uses the idea of the beast to make the boys blindly
follow him since he makes them believe that he has the power to hunt down and kill the beast, even
though there actually is no beast. Above the word The beast is the word Murder . This directly
references the murder of Simon that Jack is responsible for because he used the fear of the beast to
make the boys kill Simon, which Jack uses to take control of almost all the boys in the book as well.

the boys. Those four words are positioned diagonally striped to reference the figurative mask that Jack

A Perfect Competitive Market Structure
In the economy, market structures are examined thoroughly. There are four basic kinds of market
structures in economics: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly.
Perfect competition is the one that is being focused on predominantly. A perfectly competitive market
is a market in which all market participants are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). Price takers are
producers and consumers whose actions have no effect on the market price of the good (Krugman
Wells 1). A perfect competitive market structure consists of three aspects that will be discussed. When
perfect competition comes to mind, the Organic Food Market structure can be associated to it or the
perfectly competitive market industry. In the Organic market, all the farmers in the industry are each
producing the same product for the buyers and sellers. The consumption of the individual consumer or
the production of the individual producer will not affect the market price of the goods. In a perfectly
competitive market all participating producers and consumers are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). As
stated by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, in a perfectly competitive market neither consumption
decisions by individual producers affect the market price of the good (Krugman Wells 1). There are
two necessary conditions for perfect competition, the first being that none of the producers have a
large market share, and the second being that the goods produced are being regarded as a

Why Veterinary Technician is the Right Career for Me
When people look back at their lives, a lot of them would like to think that they made a difference.
One of these ways is by caring for an individual who could not take care of themselves. It would bring
this person a sense of happiness and great relief knowing that they have done something to change an
outcome, or potentially save a life. Being a vet tech is a rewarding and life changing expierence
(Holmes 46) . Not only is being a vet tech rewarding and life changing, but it can help the world
become a better place by saving one animal at a time. For someone who loves animals and spending
time with them, being a vet technicians is the most suitable career choice.
A nurse is the person who comes into the room first, and takes note of whats wrong with a person.
They also do the quick checks like temperauture, weight, and blood pressure. A vet tech does a lot fo
the time duties that a nurse will do, but for animals instead of people. As a nurse is to a docter, a
Veterinary Technician is a technical assitant to a Veterinatian. For someone who is interested in
becoming a veterianian one day, being a vet technican is the perfect way to test the waters.
A veterinary Technician is not permitted to treat animals like a veterianary would. A vet tech is

Blessed Unrest Chapter Summary
In his esteemed novel, Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Movement in the World Came into Being and
Why No One Saw It Coming, Paul Hawken inspires with a call to environmental attention. As a both
writer and entrepreneur dedicated to our world s ecosystems, Hawken seems to understand the impact
we have created on our planet. Despite this, he also appreciates the human capacity to create an equal
impact on the other end, and make positive progress. He defines this as the Movement, being an
assembly of environmentally minded groups and NGO s coming together to save the dying
ecosystems of the planet. Although Hawken s optimism should be admired, his outlook seems slightly
quixotic. Behind what most may label as unrealistic, however, seems to always be supported by strong
evidence and facts. Rather than preying on societal guilt to the environmental damage humanity has
had on the planet, Hawken strays from emotional devices employs hope through ... Show more

He suggests that all the small parts that make up the movement can come together to harbor
transformative change, relating it as a homeostatic mechanism of the Earth as an organism. Hawken

system. He also defines the movements primary aspects, being environmental activism, social justice
initiatives, and indigenous culture s resistance to globalization (12).Hawken supports this with the
history of Rachel Carson and other significant environmentalists who were able to initiate change. If
the efforts of a single person had held such efficacy in the past, Hawken claims a tremendous
capability in the combined efforts of the world s people. With reminders to Carson s Silent Spring and
its effects on chemical companies, he displays how much potential environmentalists would have if

Tom Gatsby Character Analysis
Imagine if you had a father that left, a crippled sister, and a mother that only cared about herself. For
Tom Wingfield, this is exactly what his family is like. Tom s father left years before the play takes
place, Amanda only cares about herself, and Laura is crippled and painfully shy. For Tom, this means
he has to help his family and stay at home because Amanda does not help Laura. Tom, Amanda, and
Laura each try to escape reality and resort to things they love to do.
Amanda has a very hard time raising Laura, so for Tom, this means that he has to help out a lot. While
trying to pay the bills and take care of his family, Tom has to find ways to escape his stressful life.
After work almost every day, it is likely for Tom to go out and do something. I go to the movies
because I like adventure (33). Amanda asks Tom why he goes to the movies so often and he says it is
because he likes adventure. At home, Tom always has to take care of Laura and Amanda so a way to
escape the stress of this, he goes to the movies. Tom wishes that instead of staying at home to take
care of his family, that he could leave just like his father. People go to the movies instead of moving!
(61). What Tom is saying is about himself, instead of moving out and leaving forever, Tom goes to the
movies to escape his family and the hatred towards his job. Amanda should be focusing on the present,
but instead, she needs to escape the reality of her problems.

Prior to the passing of the Affordable Care Act, government interventions existed but none as intrusive
and omnipresent as those in the ACA. Although, previously, fewer government intrusions existed, the
healthcare industry and health insurance companies in the United States were still heavily controlled
by government regulations. At this point time it is too early to tell whether the reform has resulted in
any economic advantages or disadvantages. While the Affordable Care Act is still in its early stages,
and still not fully implemented, some research and data is available as to whether the reform could be
successful, or has been already in any aspect, or not.

song that the choir singing the tallis scholars sang. First of all, I will briefly describe the life of
William Bird who composed this song. : William Byrd was born in London in 1542 His father,
Thomas Byrd, was a little known musician. He began studying music from the age of seven, joining
the choir after a while, where he trained under Master Thomas Tallis. During this period, he made
many songs and practiced composition. In 1563, he began full scale composition and left a lot of
famous songs for his descendants, but while he lives, the Catholic religion undergoes a lot of
repression, so he had many restrictions on his work. However, at that time, ... Show more content on

song. The original song, the change between a considerable rhythm and the tempo is very soft.
Singing vocals make people permission to give feeling to a plump mother s chest as a child, because
of vocals, lyrics and themes. I think that the biggest difference between this song and other religious
music is lyrics and feeling of reception when people hear this song, because most religious music
songs sing for worshiping and praising the god that they believe and many religious music consists

Taking a Look at Pakeha
What interests me is what it means to be Pakeha without falling into the politics of blame, or of guilt,
or what Ghassan Hage (2000) has termed white and very worried about the nation subject (p. 10).
Hageʼs unpicking of the subtly racist differentiations of white liberalism has many applications. Being
Pakeha is itself a privileging position, a frankly indigenizing claim, nowhere more clearly
demonstrated than in the popular and influential memoir texts of New Zealand historian Michael King,
Being Pakeha (1985), Pakeha: The quest for identity in New Zealand (1991) and Being Pakeha Now
(2004).
When King died in 2004, there was a lot of comment about the untimeliness of his accidental death,
not only that he seemed too young but New Zealand Prime Minister at the time, Helen Clark said that
he was a voice of reason and enlightenment on New Zealand race relations (Adams, 2004, para. 8).
King s influential book, Being Pakeha Now (2004) is a warm and modest account of an exceptional
life story. Subtitled ʻReflections and Recollections of a White Nativeʼ, a term that is reasonably dis
comforting these days, the cover features a quotation in which King claims that Pakeha New
Zealanders who are committed to this land and its people are no less indigenous than Maori , and his
aim is to demonstrate how this might be the case (King, 2004, p. 1). One of the points he makes, by
way of an extended genealogy of family and childhood, is that Pakeha is a relatively recently adopted

The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction
The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction Aim We is going to investigate how temperature
effects the rate of reaction when we use a Magnesium Ribbon and dissolve it in Hydrochloric Acid.
Different Variables There are four different variables that effect the rate of reaction, surface area,
concentration, temperature and catalysts. Here is some information on each variable with diagrams.
How does surface area effect rate of reaction? In a substance the rate of reaction will be quicker if it
has a large surface area. However, if it has a small surface area the rate of reaction is much slower.
Rate of Reaction is much faster if the surface area is larger because much more of the ... Show more

6) The Bunsen burner will be lit using a match, put on the blue flame and placed under the beaker. 7)
When the temperature reaches 25°C, on the thermometer (It shouldn t take long as it is around room
temperature, anyway), we will take the test tube out of the water and place one of the pieces of
Magnesium Ribbon in the Hydrochloric Acid. We will start the stopwatch (a stopwatch gives us very
accurate readings when recording time) as soon as the Magnesium Ribbon hits the Hydrochloric Acid.
8) When the Magnesium Ribbon has completely disappeared, we shall stop the stopwatch and record
the time it took for the Magnesium Ribbon to disappear. 9) This process will be repeated for 25°C,
twice. Then we will do the same experiment for the other temperatures, doing each temperature three
times. The plan/method above is a very good way of carrying out the experiment. This is because the
rate of reaction is effected by temperature. Using the Bunsen burner makes this plan a good way of
carrying out this experiment. As the Hydrochloric acid will be heated using the blue flame, it will heat
up faster so the results for each temperature can be obtained quickly. Also using a stopwatch makes
the plan a very good way of carrying out the experiment because it is very precise when recording
how long it takes for something to happen. List of equipment Here is a list of equipment that we

The Future Of Erp Business Applications
The Future of ERP Business Applications: User Experience Is The New Imperative
While many of these systems have been designed to be used by internal employees to increase

Apathetic Nature In The Tempest
In Shakespeare s play, the Tempest, there are several actions and descriptions that reveal insight into
the personalities of each character. One of the most potent tools used in the play is noise. Noise, and
the perception of noise sheds, a different light on the subtleties of each character. It reveals
characteristics that contradict their written descriptions and often provides insight into the mindset of
the characters. Through the use of harsh sounds and solemn music, Prospero reveals his apathetic
nature towards the Europeans. This apathetic nature is a result of selfishness because Prospero wants
his daughter wed. In the beginning, he commands Ariel to conjure a tempest upon the ship. The are
several terrifying noises that associate with this violent storm. These include the sounds of winds, the
splashing water, the roaring thunder, and in this case the splitting of wood. According to one of the
mariners, We split, we split (1.1.57)! The sounds insue panic among the passengers and hints at their
possible death. The chaotic sounds caused by a raging storm is the method in which Prospero
psychologically manipulates the Europeans. Besides manipulation, the storm acts as a way of
releasing trapped anger towards the men on the ship. Prospero did not harm any of the Europeans, but
anger and apathy are evident because he commands his daughter tell you piteous heart/There s no
harm done (1.2.13 14).
Prospero also abuses the power of Ariel to encourage betrayal among the

Communication Is A Key Element For The Success Of The...
In a group, communication is a key element that contributes to the success of the group. Without
communication between group members, the tasks will not be fulfilled. This is why communication
was an important aspect in our team.
There were several forms of communication used throughout our project. Some included
communicating in person as well as communicating after class. However, when we began to work on
the interview portion of the assignment, we were all very busy and could no longer meet face to face.
This is when we decided to keep in touch through technology for future references. We did so by
communicating through an app called Groupme. By utilizing this app, we were able to control,
organize, and plan for all of the tasks required.
Another form of communication that we used during this time was Google Docs. Google Docs
allowed us to examine, edit, and comment on each other s assigned portion of the assignment. It was
extremely convenient and effortless to use. This is how we conclusively agreed on the final
submission of assignment.Overall, the communication within our team was efficient and successful.
II. Group Decision Making:
In our group, we wanted to make sure everyone s ideas and opinions were acknowledged. Since there
were five group members, we were able to avoid dilemmas because all of the decisions were based on
majority rule. In the case of a group member not being present during discussion hours, the group
leader would then make the final

How Can Storytelling Improve Communication Skills in a 4...
CHAPTER ONE
Introduction
This research was carried out in an Early Childhood Care and Education Centre located in an urban
community. It is based on a four year old child whose name is Sarah Lall (not real name). She is very
loving and helpful but interaction with her peers is limited since she does not speak in clear sentences.
Her words do not take the form of complete sentences and sometimes puzzles the teachers and her
peers as to what she is trying to say. Based on face to face interviews with her mother it was clear that
she is not given much opportunity to communicate at home which as a result her vocabulary is
limited. Many young children lack vital experiences in background knowledge that develop

2. How can storytelling improve social interaction in four year olds?
Summary
In summary this chapter dealt with the background of the child and the purpose of the study. It gave a
description of various strategies used through storytelling to improve the communication skills in a
four year old child. In chapter two the researcher will explore the literature that surrounds the research
study based on the effects of storytelling to improve communication skills in four year olds.
CHAPTER TWO
Literature Review The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which storytelling can
improve the communication skills of a four year old child in an early childhood centre. Critical to this
examination there would be two main factors contributing to the research. These are storytelling to
improve communication skills and developing communication skills. It would demonstrate a clearer
understand of the value of intervention at an early age and the effect it has on the child reaching
his/her fullest potential. Nelson (2003) explains: Infants and toddlers use story to explain and create
meaning because that s what parents and their culture do. Storytelling impacts the development of
communication skills that are critical to a child s success at school. It encourages children to listen
actively and analytically, improves verbal skills, increases the child s taught and boosts their
understanding skills.

Megacity Vs New York-Oldark A Megalopolis
A megacity is a relatively new term that stands to be defined. A megacity is more elaborate than an
average city in my areas of interest. It exceeds the characteristics of an average city in population,
infrastructure, culture, and poverty. Although megacities may look rather attractive to an individual
that resides in a rural area, megacities come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. They
may seem like modern day utopias yet they also have their flaws. Even so, megacities have dominated
this planet and we can surely predict the growth of more megacities to come.
There have always been large cities in the world that had large populations but it wasn t until the
1950s when the emergence of megacities actually began as New York Newark ... Show more content

A megacity can be just seen as a massive city, meanwhile a megalopolis was formed by the fusion of
two or more cities to collectively make one vast city. French geographer, Jean Gottman, was the first
to use the term megalopolis and he attributed it to the Mid Atlantic region that stretches from
Maryland to New York. It was the perfect location for a megalopolis as, The middle Atlantic Coastal
region provided early settlers with numerous opportunities for the development of deep water, ocean
oriented port cities (The Mid Atlantic). Although, this was the first use of the word megalopolis,
megalopolises are still common today and continue to grow.
Megacities have their advantages and disadvantages, however, it depends on who you ask. For some
better off individuals, the megacities are a dream come true. For an impoverished person, the
megacities may be a failed destination. The typical advantages are those of job opportunities,
entertainment, and comfortable amenities. The disadvantages of living in a megacity are the crimes
and the higher cost of living. Nonetheless, the future for megacities is bright. With the rapid
advancement of technology, megacities will continue to flourish and reach new levels of

Operating under a strong growth strategy, their reputation for exceptional quality and high safety
ratings coupled with operational efficiency promoted their competitive advantage. Furthermore,
Toyota was principally the symbol of excellence and a benchmark for every other company. When

Introduction Singapore is a thriving port for businesses and its arts sector is more dynamic now than ever before, with arts organisations enjoying various degrees of success in the consumer market, as well as in markets for sponsorship and donations, and government support. Even though the three main sources of revenue may have come to an end, the number of arts organisations competing for financial support is continuously rising. In view of marketing, one could say that the life cycle of the arts sector has not only reached maturity, but is saturated; where supply exceeds demand by a wide margin (Colbert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study will analyse three arts centres in Singapore, namely The Substation, Esplanade, and Goodman Arts Centre. III. Proposed Thesis Statement Research Questions The proposed study hypothesises that the role of branding can affect the financial strength of the arts centres in Singapore. The study seeks to prove that there is relationship between the role of branding and the opportunities in financial support for the growing number of arts centres in Singapore. Financial support for the arts centres are likely to increase if branding strategy with careful consideration is adopted. Through a review of recent literature covering the role of marketing (and branding) in affecting the artistic products and arts organisations, the proposed study explores the connection between the arts centres financial strength and their brands constructed therein. With particular emphasis on three arts centres in Singapore, namely The Substation, The Esplanade, and Goodman Arts Centre, five research questions are included to support the thesis. The initial investigation of the proposed study will attempt to 1) What is branding and its relationship with the arts in Singapore?; 2) What are the identified arts centres in Singapore?; 3) Do brand extension strategies for conventional goods and services succeed in the case of arts centres in Singapore? 4) Which type of ... • 4. Analysis Of We Were Soldiers Rachel Smith We Were Soldiers Film Analysis The film We Were Soldiers depicts the 1965 Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam. The film follows Lt. Col. Harold Moore and his men as they are send to fight at the first major American battle in Vietnam. The film also shows the impact this battle had on the home front and showed how the war impacted the soldier s wives waiting at home. The dramatization attempts to show how the Americans were introduced to the Vietnam War and how they fought viciously against an elusive, dedicated enemy. Director Randall Wallace uses the film to point out characteristics of the Vietnam War. One thing he tries to focus on is that fact that the United States did not realize the magnitude of the fight they were about to join. When they are first dropped in to the Ia Drang valley they capture the NVA lookout and ask him where his men are. They are shocked to learn that there are 4,000 NVA soldiers waiting for them in the mountains. The lookout also tells them that, It s same army that destroyed French. They want to kill Americans very badly... but they have not been able to find any yet. This quote shows that the NVAArmy has been fighting for much longer and are more invested in the fight than the Americans were, something that was not clear to the original American troops. There are also specific characteristic that the film tried to point out about Americas war in Vietnam. One thing he tried to show is how young the troopers were. The film ... Analysis of Lopez vs. Gonzales Court Case Essay Even before the Declaration of Independence was written, the United States was always a country where people journey upon to seek a better life to the land of the free in order to find a life style on the idea life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Since immigration is recognized as one of the largest dilemmas of homeland security, people value their safety, disregarding the fact that the United States was born from immigrants. However, this does not mean that immigrants do not have to obey the law; it is an obligation or else consequences will arise. Because the United States is a democratic nation, it trusts the people of the country to assist in the making and carrying out laws. When people do commit a crime, in a particular ... • 7. Analysis Of The Cohen Brother s Film True Grit It is always a challenge for filmmakers to take a beloved character from literature and bring him or her to life. There is not enough time to do an adequate amount of characterization, which is why many films fail to accurately portray a character. The Cohen Brother s film True Grit, an adaptation of the novel by Charles Portis, created a better portrayal of the character of Mattie Ross, the feisty, head strong, and tough young girl. Through costume and set design, as well as the narrative choices the directors chose to take, the resilient, no nonsense, bratty young girl was brought to life. In the book, Mattie Ross is a very feisty, head strong, and tough young girl. Mattie does not let her age get in the way of anything she sets off to do and is never afraid to give some lip when needed. These characteristics are shown in the novel in scenes like her first introduction with LaBoeuf. He threatens to hit her with his belt and she replies, Put a hand on me and you will answer for it...the good people of Arkansas do not go easy on men who abuse women and children (76) . She is a 14 year old girl standing up for herself against a grown man, which is something most adults can struggle with. This scene is an example that gives the readers a look into who Mattie is as a person, which the Cohen brothers did a very good job of capturing. In the Cohen Brother s version mise en scene was used so effectively that it was like the Mattie in the book was on screen. The costume ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Power Of Words In Othello In Othello words have the ability to steer the plot, to form characters identities and to engage the audience as active participants in the play. In Shakespeare s Othello, the lack of a narrator, empowers the words spoken by the characters to such an extent that it directs the drama to the desired destination of the play. This essay will serve as proof as the power of words will be discussed by, firstly, explaining the effect that words, and the lack thereof, have on characters and ultimately on the plot. Thereafter, the use of certain words to form perceived impressions of characters will be argued. Lastly, an elaboration on how words are used to involve the audience in the play. Words can have a positive or negative effect on characters (Kaleba Osherow, 2012), it can lead to a character being confident or lead to the deterioration of a character s self concept (as seen in the case of Othello). We see this in the first act when Othello does not hide from confrontation, but instead invites Brabanzio to come. Not I. I must be found. • 11. Use Of Narrative In The Princess Bride Taylor Lane Colyer Dr. Cossar Final Paper April 11, 2017 Genre and Narrative in The Princess Bride Genre and narrative appear in all forms of film; they cannot exist without each other. Films have some form of narrative that makes it unique for a specific genre. This is due to the way the story is told. Depending on how the story is told the audience will generate a response to the film they are watching. Narrative and genre are used to explain the story and plot of a film. Let s look at The Princess Bride for example; this is a genre film that uses narrative to tell a story. Through narrative the film is able to get a response out of the audience and the audience knows how to respond to this particular film because of past genre and ... Genre theorist Rick Altman states how genre classifications are down to the pre reading and knowledge that audiences have of texts, before they watch a film they will know the story, characters, conventions, and mis en scene of the genre (Altman: 1989). Audience members know they are in for a combination of a lot of genres when they watch this film. The first ever film poster for the said Heroes, Giants, Villains, Wizards, True love. Not just your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum fairytale. The film brings in a very diverse crowd, because it contains so many genres. Not everybody likes story s about true love and not everybody likes story s about wizards and giants, so why not put them all together. I know several older men who love this film and I also know several young women my age who love this film just as much. The great thing about this film in particular is that the audience might think they have a pre determined answer as to what will happen in the end, but due to the multitude of genres it causes the audience to question themselves and form hypotheses. Film theorist Erlend Lavik tells us that, practically all films contain gaps that the audience must fill in. Neller* Department of Computer Science Gettysburg College Campus Box 402 Gettysburg, PA 17325 1486 Introduction As computer gaming reaches ever greater heights in realism, we can expect the complexity of simulated dynamics to reach further as well. To populate such gaming environments with agents that behave intelligently, there must be some means of reasoning about the consequences of agent actions. Such ability to seek out the ramifications of various possible action sequences, commonly called lookahead , is found in programs that play chess, but there are special challenges that face game programmers who wish to apply AI search techniques to complex continuous dynamical systems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, we compare three different means of action parameter discretization, including a dispersion technique that generates an approximate uniform sampling of closed action spaces. Action Based Discretization Artificial Intelligence search algorithms search discrete systems, yet we live and reason in a continuous world. Continuous systems must first be discretized, i.e. approximated as discrete systems, to apply such algorithms. There are two common ways that continuous search problems are discretized: state based discretization and action based discretization. Statebased discretization becomes infeasible when the state space is highly dimensional. Actionbased discretization becomes infeasible when there are too many degrees of freedom. Interestingly, biological high degree of freedom systems are often governed by a much smaller collection of motion primitives [Mataric, 2000]. We focus here on action based discretization. Action based discretization consists of two parts: (1) action parameter discretization and (2) action timing discretization, i.e. how and when to act. See Figure 1. The most popular form of discretization is uniform discretization. It is common to sample possible actions and action timings at fixed intervals. For the following algorithms, we focus on action timing discretization. Experimental evidence of this paper and previous studies [Neller, 2000] suggests that a fixed ... The Importance of Being Accepted When coming out as a gay individual, there is a desire to be loved and accepted for who they are by the family. When parents reject their child s sexual orientation it often comes to kicking the child out of their home out of shame for their sexuality. In recent statistics, Studies indicate that between 25% and 50% of homeless youth are LGBT and on the streets because of their sexual orientation or gender identity (Pflagnyc, Statistics You Should Know About Gay and Transgender Students). LGBT youth s also have an increased chance of living in an abusive household with older parents due to a contrast of two different generations. The young generation of today is more susceptible to accepting LGBT members because it is a more liberal time period. However, the older generations are most likely to shun them due to biblical or principals that they grew up with. The more accepting parents are of things they cannot change, the happier the child often is after coming out to them. Homelessness has become an issue in recent years as more teens are starting to come out to their parents, who have lived in the previous generation. Religion has played a key part in the rejection of LGBT youth s due to its blunt statements like, Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination (Bible 98). Another solution was the campaigning proposal, where protectors of human rights helped increase public awareness of exactly what is going on and to what extent women are exploited. the article was completely pro the abolishment of trafficking and prostitution practices and there were no arguments or debates in defense of the practices taking place in society. There are a number of measures that should be undertaken by society for the improvement of the existing situation before it gets any worse, making it harder to fix later on, which would lead to a degraded corrupted society in the possible near future. as the article mentioned, churches should be a big part in the process of helping the exploited woman with the trauma their jobs brought to them. Also, the public should be made clearly aware of the situation, and all the details included in the issue of prostitution and how traffickers force it upon their employees. Also, more patrollers should be made available to try and control the situation by arresting traffickers, which may also scare off other traffickers involved in similar situations. Starting from the bottom of the mask, there is a quote from Jack which is one of the last things he says before leaving Ralph s group: I m not going to play any longer. Not with you . This quote is significant to Jack because not only does it show the end of the impact on Jack that the tamed and edified society Ralph has developed, it shows how childish he is. Before Jack says this, he puts Ralph s conch on the grass in front of him and cries. His tears are described as humiliating , which shows how he is unfit to be a good ruler because he is leaving Ralph s civilization and crying about it because it is not run the way he wants to be run. • 16. A Perfect Competitive Market Structure In the economy, market structures are examined thoroughly. There are four basic kinds of market structures in economics: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Perfect competition is the one that is being focused on predominantly. A perfectly competitive market is a market in which all market participants are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). Price takers are producers and consumers whose actions have no effect on the market price of the good (Krugman Wells 1). A perfect competitive market structure consists of three aspects that will be discussed. When perfect competition comes to mind, the Organic Food Market structure can be associated to it or the perfectly competitive market industry. In the Organic market, all the farmers in the industry are each producing the same product for the buyers and sellers. The consumption of the individual consumer or the production of the individual producer will not affect the market price of the goods. In a perfectly competitive market all participating producers and consumers are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). As stated by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, in a perfectly competitive market neither consumption decisions by individual producers affect the market price of the good (Krugman Wells 1). Blessed Unrest Chapter Summary In his esteemed novel, Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Movement in the World Came into Being and Why No One Saw It Coming, Paul Hawken inspires with a call to environmental attention. As a both writer and entrepreneur dedicated to our world s ecosystems, Hawken seems to understand the impact we have created on our planet. Despite this, he also appreciates the human capacity to create an equal impact on the other end, and make positive progress. He defines this as the Movement, being an assembly of environmentally minded groups and NGO s coming together to save the dying ecosystems of the planet. Although Hawken s optimism should be admired, his outlook seems slightly quixotic. Behind what most may label as unrealistic, however, seems to always be supported by strong evidence and facts. Rather than preying on societal guilt to the environmental damage humanity has had on the planet, Hawken strays from emotional devices employs hope through ... • 22. Taking a Look at Pakeha What interests me is what it means to be Pakeha without falling into the politics of blame, or of guilt, or what Ghassan Hage (2000) has termed white and very worried about the nation subject (p. 10). Hageʼs unpicking of the subtly racist differentiations of white liberalism has many applications. Being Pakeha is itself a privileging position, a frankly indigenizing claim, nowhere more clearly demonstrated than in the popular and influential memoir texts of New Zealand historian Michael King, Being Pakeha (1985), Pakeha: The quest for identity in New Zealand (1991) and Being Pakeha Now (2004). When King died in 2004, there was a lot of comment about the untimeliness of his accidental death, not only that he seemed too young but New Zealand Prime Minister at the time, Helen Clark said that he was a voice of reason and enlightenment on New Zealand race relations (Adams, 2004, para. 8). King s influential book, Being Pakeha Now (2004) is a warm and modest account of an exceptional life story. Subtitled ʻReflections and Recollections of a White Nativeʼ, a term that is reasonably dis comforting these days, the cover features a quotation in which King claims that Pakeha New Zealanders who are committed to this land and its people are no less indigenous than Maori , and his aim is to demonstrate how this might be the case (King, 2004, p. 1). One of the points he makes, by way of an extended genealogy of family and childhood, is that Pakeha is a relatively recently adopted term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here is some information on each variable with diagrams. How does surface area effect rate of reaction? In a substance the rate of reaction will be quicker if it has a large surface area. We will start the stopwatch (a stopwatch gives us very accurate readings when recording time) as soon as the Magnesium Ribbon hits the Hydrochloric Acid. 8) When the Magnesium Ribbon has completely disappeared, we shall stop the stopwatch and record the time it took for the Magnesium Ribbon to disappear. 9) This process will be repeated for 25°C, twice. Then we will do the same experiment for the other temperatures, doing each temperature three times. The plan/method above is a very good way of carrying out the experiment. This is because the rate of reaction is effected by temperature. Using the Bunsen burner makes this plan a good way of carrying out this experiment. As the Hydrochloric acid will be heated using the blue flame, it will heat up faster so the results for each temperature can be obtained quickly. One of the most potent tools used in the play is noise. Noise, and the perception of noise sheds, a different light on the subtleties of each character. It reveals characteristics that contradict their written descriptions and often provides insight into the mindset of the characters. Through the use of harsh sounds and solemn music, Prospero reveals his apathetic nature towards the Europeans. This apathetic nature is a result of selfishness because Prospero wants his daughter wed. In the beginning, he commands Ariel to conjure a tempest upon the ship. The are several terrifying noises that associate with this violent storm. These include the sounds of winds, the splashing water, the roaring thunder, and in this case the splitting of wood. According to one of the mariners, We split, we split (1.1.57)! The sounds insue panic among the passengers and hints at their possible death. The chaotic sounds caused by a raging storm is the method in which Prospero psychologically manipulates the Europeans. However, when we began to work on the interview portion of the assignment, we were all very busy and could no longer meet face to face. This is when we decided to keep in touch through technology for future references. We did so by communicating through an app called Groupme.
